What's facinating is if the Gosselin children are able to muddle through the rest of their childhoods without any significant emotional problems from their parents' divorce played out on everyone's televisions.
Also reportedly on the list: Sarah Palin, of "bring me my retarded baby" fame, Lady Gaga (whata now?) and Adam Lambert. Pleassse.
We have some suggestions for Barbara for the real facinating people out there from 2009. Not ego-maniacs revelling in their 15 Minutes.
1. Police Officer Kim Munley, who opened fire on the Fort Hood gunman and stopped the rampage, saving who knows how many lives.
2. Sully Sullivan, who landed U.S. Airways Flight safely in the Hudson River earlier this year.
3. California firefighters, who this fall fought and saved thousands of homes and lives from some of the biggest forest fires the state has ever seen.
4. Barack Obama, sworn in as the nation's first African-American president in January and awarded the Nobel Peace prize.
5. Michael Oher, the homeless African-American teenager who eventually graduated from high school, college, and started playing football for the Baltimore Ravens this season. His story is told in the newly released film "The Blind Side."

Babs would have been smart to pick Jai Pausch, Randy's widow. Now THERE is a woman who does it all for the sake of her children. And she does it on her own too!
I found Kate fascinating this year. Look, you devoted a whole blog to following her divorce. You must be fascinated at least with the legal aspects of her life. You had 35 posts about her in October alone! I think Barbara is just doing the same thing you are, you both use different media, that's all.
It was nice of you to write this post about these very admirable people. The California firefighters didn't get much coverage this year where I live. I'm glad someone mentioned their work. I had no idea the fires were worse than in years past.
The station fire was just one of many to burn this fall. It burned 250 square miles, or an area about the size of Baghdad. Two firefights died tragically when their truck crashed when they were desperately searching for an alternate route out for some resident who were trapped. Even three months later, whenever the wind blows the skies turn yellow with ash leftover from the massive fire.
You're right it's true a lot of people are following Kate. I think myself and a lot of bloggers do it more for the accountability of it, to hold these people's feet to the fire. For some reason Barbara's list has always sort of seemed like it's not just facinating people, but people to be admired. I say this because of the way most interviews are conducted by her in recent years--the sort of fawning over, softball, google-eyed celebritiy interviews that neither provide much insight nor get around much of the PR spin.
On the contrary, I feel a lot of blogs and chatter now, I hope ours included, don't fall for the PR spin the Gosselins churn out, or at least we aren't afraid to question it.
BaBaWaWA (sorry, Gilda Radner fan) is having Kate on for the same reason she had her on the View...Ratings Ratings Ratings and nothing more.
Kate doesn't deserve to be singled out by BW for being fascinating. This super-mom image is a big, frickin' lie concocted by TLC to sell their TV show. Kate has nannies to help her, even a "night shift" nanny to put the kids to bed. All Kate does is work-out, hit the beauty salon for manicures and pedicures, and makes sure her tan is looking good. Oh and don't forget her daily Dunkin' Donuts coffee run.
I haven't even started on how she has alienated her 8 kids from their grandparents and their father. Sure, she is fascinating. Probably the most toxic person who has been rewarded for bad behavior. Let BW's interview be the last we see of Kate for a long time.
Anon 11:24: Jon is NOT alienated from his kids. He shares custody.
Administrator: I had no idea that the fires were big enough for the ahs to turn the sky yellow three months later. It must have been very frightening. Those firefighters are indeed very brave.
I think when we talk about alienation we're not necessarily referring to Jon being physically separated from the kids. He does have visitation rights. But there do appear to be many signs he is being emotionally alienated from the kids. Parental alienation has increasingly become a huge problem in divorce cases or any case involving children. Just from all the negative comments Kate has made about Jon alone on TV, it seems hard to believe the kids haven't heard at least some of it. When you hear one parent bash the other enough, it can cause a child to feel alienated toward them, even if they see them all the time.
Just one example of many, the kids were all sitting right there when Kate went on a tirade about Jon both to his face and to the cameras when they were getting their passports.
