Rough Ride 9/13/10: Discussion Thread

Mady and Cara take a surf lesson. The family goes deep sea fishing.

After Kate's disgusting stunt on Regis and Kelly on Friday, is it finally time?

It's past time. Have you read the comments on Huff Post? 99% against Kate I would guess.

I haven't seen any clips yet but from what I've read the kids are out deep sea fishing without life jackets and also vomiting while she does nothing to help them??? I this what anyone sane would consider entertainment? even if the law didn't reguire life jackets, as a parent I would insist on it. She has no materal instincts at all towards those kids. I really believe that she has no feelings towards them except distain and they make her miserable when she is with them. She never speaks a kind word to them it's just all complaints and gets them away from her so she can be alone in the spotlight. What mother if their child had sand in their eyes would yell to someone else "take this child away"? and do nothing to help them. Her behavior is appalling. As I've said before, I can't believe that in 2010 that someone can abuse their children on NATIONAL TV and nothing is done about it. Truly unbelievable

Gosh look at home normal and dare I say "pretty" in this photo....boy has she changed for the worse since Jon left. Most women after a divorce (that they requested) end up looking better not her.

Anyways to the topic at hand - I sure hope she is done done done!!!

There IS a life jacket law in NC:

"Children under age 13 must wear a life vest while boating on all public waters of North Carolina. Any child under age 13 must wear a Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device, or PFD, if the boat is under way (not anchored or tied to shore). The only exceptions are for children who are below deck or inside an enclosed cabin."

Apparently they somehow got around this, because the kids are shown out on the open water without life jackets.

I fear we are far from done, as far as seeing this subhuman on TV. Just look at the amount of publicity, albeit negative, she has managed to stir up with her latest escapade. Article after article calling her out, which makes even more people curious about her. I don't think she'll ever be gone. Heavy sigh.........

North Carolina has a law in place that requires all children under the age of 13 to wear life jackets.

I've thought for a while that the show couldn't go on much longer and that it would most likely end this year. The kids are getting older, they're in school full-time and the American viewing audience is fickle: we like babies/toddlers and we have a very short attention span.

This was their FIFTH season (think about how old the sextuplets are!).

This will also be the end of the road with regard to public-type jobs for Kate. The biggest reason for that is that she has no talent in any other area. If she had been a great singer, if she could act, dance, whatever, she might have been able to parlay this into a more long-lasting career in the public eye.

But God blessed all of us: she doesn't have an atom of natural talent in that entire body.

To make matters worse, she's not even likable or interesting or easy to talk to, not in the least! You can ride the "so awful people look" train for only so long--after that, people are just sick of you and turned off by your nastiness.

What Kate deserves is to have to go away permanently and deal with herself on a regular basis. Without some serious counseling, she'll never really see how she made the bed she has to lie in. But at least she can get off OUR radars.

If the boat were anchored like to go deep seat fishing they wouldn't have to wear life jackets per the NC law. Still doesn't change the fact that law or not it's just DUMB not to put a child in a lifejacket. Or anyone really.

A man who goes to our church got in a boat accident between Los Angeles and Catalina Island. He was floating in the water for two days. He was FOUND. He would have surely died without his lifejacket.

There was also just a boat accident off South Carolina and they were in the water for days. Again saved by lifejackets. THREE KIDS IN THE PARTY. No one can tred water that long, you need your lifejacket.

Emschick.. in total agreement with you. can someone call CPS and remain anonymous in Pa.? where is Aunt Jody, Uncle Kevin, Beth, Jons family? anybody? first the heat of N.Y. and now this? I often wonder since she had help from the beginning, if she really bonded with any of them. It doesn't appear that way. she is so indifferent towards them it sickens me.

I think just because people are talking or reading about all this drama, doesn't mean they're watching. Ratings are falling flat and hopefully, people are sick of her.

I haven't watch any episode of Kate Plus 8. I have scanned through some of the recaps but for the most part, not really interested in the show.

I can't watch this show anymore. Haven't been able to in months. Not even for the rubber-neck factor. I see her face and hear her voice and I want to change the channel. I was never a Kate-fan. I like to believe I was the audience TLC most-hoped for-the one that would watch just to see what they'd say and do next. But I just got sick of it. It's truly like watching someone else's vacation videos. Boring. And too hard to watch the way she talks to the kids. I was traumatized by the cupcake episode. I was finally, truly, 100% done after the divorce announcement. So happy to not watch and read about her slow downfall.

The law says at a vessel is defined as a power boat. I don't think it applies to bigger boats like this, like cruise ships etc. You don't see kids running around in life vests on cruise ships.

Still stupid to be on a small boat without a life vest. I did a post.

1.disturbing comment: "Omg I can't wait till they're 18..it'll be so interesting"
2.the boat was unstable and collin was struggling to stand. One sudden turn or stop and the kid flies,God forbidd, over board
3.every youtube video kate plus 8 is claimed and deleted by tlc now. because of ratings? because of the unedited content?
what do you guys think?

Even if I was sure that I could watch this "show" and not have it count in the ratings, I would not want to watch. It is boring and irritating at the same time. Kate is nails on a chalkboard and I am wrenched dry from feeling so bad for those kids. Besides, football is on and the hits there are cleaner than those that Kate delivers.

VESSEL Every kind of watercraft capable of being used as a means of transportation on water, including seaplanes

That is the technical definition of a vessel in NC law. Taken from the following site:

http://www.boat-ed.com/nc/course/p4-7_pfds.htm

It appears unless the vessel is ties up or at anchor a jacket must be on. This law came about from the 2002 Life Jacket law. It was created due to the number of incidents reagrding lack of PFD's. According to this all 8 children shouls have had them on.

I feel for those kids. They are surrounded by people with twisted priorities.

When my kids were little, I would put life jackets on them even when they went fishing off a pier.

All it takes is one miss-step.

But then again, that's just common sense- and Kate lacks that gene.

Free the Gosselins!!! Boycott Kate + 8!!!!!!!

Completely agree. I hope the kids are off tv soon and get help but more imporantly for Kate to get some help.

==================

There is a mandatory safety drill on board a cruise ship, in which everyone MUST go to their muster stations wearing their life jackets. It's the law. I wonder if Kate and the children were ever informed as to the location of the life jackets on board, and how to put them on in the event of an accident.

A Pink Straight Jacket For Kate said... 21

Sadly, in case of an accident- can you imagine trying to get life jackets on 8 panicking/squirming/screaming little children?

And please God forgive me for saying this, but I'm sure, knowing how Kate freaks-out when overwhelmed, she would probably shut down and not take care of anyone but herself.

Lord have mercy- protect the Gosselin 8.

Well I just watched the first 20 seconds and already they're showing the kids puking.

I'm sure the kids so appreciate that now that they have to go to school tomorrow and all their friends saw them hurling on national TV.

Unbelievable.

To the person who mentioned that they showed Zack Roloff puking too, the only difference is Zack Roloff is 19 and if he doesn't want to be shown hurling he can stop it. The Gosselin kids are totally defenseless. Kate, who just claimed to not want them to be seen in a bad light, lets through vomiting.

Anon 1 said... 26

The fact that a law has to be created to TELL people what most parents would know instictively, that you must wear a life jacket, was probably created for idiots like Kate. The kids probably had on free bathing suits that had to be viewed.

Having said that, the boat owner knew what the law was. Wonder if he even mentioned it to Kate to have them put a jacket on and she totally ignored him? Again, WHY won't someone speak up and say, in this case, "sorry, can't take you out unless everyone is in a life jacket, it's the law?" I don't think any provisions were made for them/TLC to waive the law, it was another case of $$$$ talks.

Anon 1 said... 27

Guess it'll be quiet on the Gosselin front for a few days, til the next show. When is that?

BTW, Kate's "official business" on the Cabo trip, she was "officially" down there, trying to drum up viewers for tonite's show.

Wow. Don't agree with Kate, don't care for her either. But, does she really deserve this much hatred. Besides her immaturity and lack of parenting skills, what else has she done to deserve such hate. By the end of Sept, TLC will be done with her. That's eight children alone with Kate Gosselin. Really! Let's wish Kate all the luck in the world.

What has she done? She's alienated all her family and friends, she's not only ruined her kids childhoods, she has lied every step of the way for years now, and she has trashed her ex, the father of her 8 kids. That's just for starters. Do you want any more?

Yup, Kate's a smoker. If you watch the episode Rough Ride when they are surfing the instructors are talking to the girls. You'll then see the tent in the background and Kate walking towards them. She'll turn her head and blow cigarette smoke out. What a loser!

"I was reading around. I’ve seen in a couple of places that they are again trying to catch TLC doing something wrong since the children weren’t wearing life vests. While the NC law states children under age 13 are required to wear life vests on the water, the law does not apply to commercial vessels. If they are interested they can find it here (page 6). I’m all for water safety, but it’s not like kids wear a life vest on a ferry or a cruise ship."
