Admin,

Sorry, I am a detail person and I hate to point out a mistake publicly but my disgust for kart compels me to.....

Your header above implies that the entire hour was 1.4 which isn't correct. Each half hour got separate rating and the 10:30 show dropped to 1.2 something.

Can you ammend the header above to reflect that the second half hour ratings were 1.2 something?

I have read that the ratings person initially thought the 2nd half hour was a repeat and didn't report that rating, but when followers emailed him he calculated the ratings for the 10:30 show (Chicks and Eggs) as well.

It was 1.2 something so there was a spike then a slight drop when the viewers went to bed after watching 6 turns 7....

I hate to see her get one single rating point more that she got....

Thanks!

In regard to kart's twat above, did I read that the meet/greet/lick foot session at 6:00 requires an RSVP and costs $25????

I saw something about 8 cans of food or $8 admission in general, but please..... I hope they aren't really doing a food fundraiser meet/greet/lick with kart!!!!!!!!!!!

And surely kart doesn't think that $25 goes to her!

I am happy to wait to hear a review from some person who attends.

I can't wait to hear how many minutes she shakes hands before leaving.

And of course I am disappointed that purseboy isn't included in the pre-show publicity....

On a different note, Admin, you're an attorney right? Can't you send that libelous blog a cease/desist/remove letter? I'd be so pissed....... but then, I suppose we have to be 'high road takers' LOL and consider the sources....

I really wonder if they is any way to find out the demographics of who is really supporting kart. We all believe they are tweens and teens.

I wouldn't be surprised either if college kids got together to drink and laugh at her shows....cheap entertainment on a student's budget. Shame....

TV ratings include DVR users, despite what Chris Harrison told a Bachelorette fan

comment »

On Twitter last night, The Bachelor host Chris Harrison responded to a fan’s question about TV ratings with an incorrect answer. The fan asked if DVRed shows count in the ratings, and Chris replied that they do not, and joked that he’d “let it slide this once.” Several people replied to Chris and apologized for DVRing the show, even though Chris is absolutely wrong. Although ratings can be confusing and are far from perfect, they include DVRed shows.

*****First, the only people included in the ratings are Nielsen families (or “panel,” as Nielsen calls them): people who record their viewing habits in diaries or have boxes attached to their TVs and DVRs that record that information automatically. So, if you aren’t a Nielsen family, it doesn’t really matter what you watch, at least as far as ratings are concerned.*****

Four years ago, Nielsen said it wanted 37,000 homes and 100,000 people to be the sample group by 2011, so there are a small number of people and homes who are used to extrapolate what everyone watches. (Because I am not a math person, this is a difficult concept for me; after being randomly selected to record radio ratings by Arbitron about 10 years ago, I even wrote a story about radio ratings to try to understand how a few randomly selected people could really represent everyone. Nielsen has been criticized over the randomness and representation of its panel.)

When you see TV ratings reported in the media, those are typically overnight ratings are referred to as “live + same day,” and that means they include those panelists who watched the show live or watched it on their DVR until 3 a.m. the next day. So, yes, playback on a DVR counts in the ratings for those who are counted.

On a weekly basis, we learn about “live + 7 day” ratings: those that include people who watched on their DVR within a week. Since that adds more people, network publicists like to use that number to illustrate a show’s popularity. Publicists, marketers, and journalists also break down a show by demographics and report different types of numbers, often depending upon which is higher or which speaks more to a network’s target audience; here’s a good primer on what those numbers mean.

However, TV By the Numbers explains that another, more obscure, rarely public number, C3 or “C + 3 day,” is what “determine[s] how much the networks get paid for their advertising” because it “measure[s] Live and DVR viewing of the average commercial minute during a show within 3 days of airdate.” Because that number is typically very similar to live + same day, Bill Gorman argues that “additional DVR viewing after the ‘Same Day’ period doesn’t make the network any more money or ‘help’ any shows.”

So, while Chris Harrison is wrong when he insisted that DVRed shows don’t count, if you’re a Nielsen family and you wait five days to watch The Bachelorette because Ashley is so boring, you aren’t helping to inflate Chris’ paycheck, but your viewership will be noted and potentially included in a press release.

Ha. I guess I'm pulling a Jon and trying not to drag them into court every time they lie about me because with narcissists, that usually just eggs them on. Boy do I feel for that man. Anyone can file a C&D, attorney or not. A C&D is more like a polite way of saying knock it off or I'm going to sue. You can bypass that step, so you should never count on getting fair warning. Just a fair warning!

Admin, re: posts on other sites about you...first they have no sense of humor. Your recap was the funniest thing I've read in a long time, with more than a pinch of truth. Their posts also feel you have no right to say anything because you don't have children.

Wow, does that sound familiar. My husband's family always made me feel uncomfortable and excluded me from all conversation when we were young. They always hated the fact I'd been to college and had graduate degrees and did so easily. I'm not really sure they fully understood the difference between assoc and MS and Ph.D., but whatever they hated it. Often I would not go to see his parents if the rest of the family was going to be there---would be 500 mi one way for me to go for several days, taking some time off work, and be ignored. I never said a thing about my husband going--encouraged him to go. Also they all drank and I didn't (like you a college student who didn't do liquor well).

The children are now grown and have teenage and older children. They all married young. We get invites only for things we could never attend, like graduations for the kids, send them a hundred bucks because we don't even know them really, and never get a thank you card. About a year ago I get a message from one of the kids accusing me of a boatload of crap including me always thinking I was better than them. Really, and this from a family who systematically excluded me from anything and still to this day feel I have no idea about kids. Like I never was one, like I don't mentor and have for years (they would not know). Anyway, now I would bite back hard if my husband decided to talk to them and be family with them again. It would be like a betrayal to me. Crazy bunch of people who talk about unconditional love---you just do that, and you get drunks, druggies, knocked up kids, and visit them in jail. Oh yeah, be proud.

I'm with you Admin. How the heck do they know who you are, anyway?

I have argued for a long time (even posted evidence on another blog but was blown off) that the ratings number was more than just the Nielson families, but people continued to watch because they are were a Nielson family. We are much more technologically advanced and "big brotherish" than we were when Nielson first made the TV scene. Don't think for one minute your cable, satellite, etc. companies do not have the ability to know what you watch. That info is bought and paid for by the advertisers. Just think of Apple's firestorm recently. The best thing you can do is just not tune in....period. Do it for the kids.

A bad show with a controversial headliner that draws viewers is just fine with TLC. Get it? No matter how much we snark here, she's not going away until those ratings come down for good.

As far as the TN thing goes, she is twitting up a storm to have fans show up. It's not about the Food Bank, it's about her.

mama mia said... 9

I can just imagine Kate greeting her teenaged fans in TN - "gosh, I love me too, I totally understand how thrilled you are meeting me, Steve come take a picture of me and let this person stand next to me, but make sure I look good cause we are so selling these to ROL".

Beth said... 10

The radio advertisement said that they $25 admission to the back stage party goes to the Food Bank. If Kate thinks that she is getting it, she is going to be surprised.

Of course they took a spike...duh. TV producers have to be up in the night! There is nothing on TV, no competition what so ever. As I turn older, I watch more and more TV, and I hate to say, more reality TV. With the end of Surivivor, The Biggest loser, The Great Race, The Apprentice, and re runs of almost everthing else The D^%$M S*&$t Gosselin show will pick off a lot of people. As soon as viewers have a choice again....it is straight down hill for Hate. No, I watched reruns of Swamp People, not the Hate show.

TLC stinks said... 14

I meant to say people watched because they were "not" a Nielson family, so the logic was that their tv viewing did not matter.

And if her viewership went up because it's summer and there's not much good on, then that speaks to how bad tv programming is these days. I'm finding myself reading more because there is seldom much worth watching, so I guess I owe a thanks to TLC.

Keep going! The lyrics apply to Kate!

You got no money, you got no home,
Spinning wheel all alone,
Talkin 'bout your troubles and you never learn,
Ride a painted pony let the spinning wheel turn

If she keeps spending the kids' money on hair cuts, limos to NYC, shoes and clothing, she'll find that she'll be out of money. When the kids grow and find out they have nothing left, she'll be alone. Will she ever learn? No! The song clearly refers to the adage "what goes around, comes around."

There was a blurb in Reader's Digest (can't quote because I left it at the gym) talking about how the cable/satellite companies do track what you watch. Interesting article about how Big Brother is watching. As for TiVo/DVR - I'm reminded of the Seinfeld episode when TiVo started recording things for George that it thought he would enjoy. I do believe that the companies track what you watch and/or TiVo/DVR. They may not report it but they do track it. It's kind of like Amazon knows that I buy mysteries for my Kindle and I now get a newsletter telling me what new mysteries are available and what I might like. I don't watch because I don't want to contributed to her numbers, and guess what, I don't even turn on TLC by mistake or have it on because I'm sick and can't change the channel....OH NO I DON'T!

Marilyn, most of us typically don't give out personal details like about our families, because of just that, Kate's crazed obsessed fans. I do not talk about my family make-up here. I don't want my family stalked. And yet they think they know anyway? Heck I do feel stalked then.

That said, that's sort of like saying unless you've sat in the electric chair you can't have an opinion on the death penalty. There's no requirement anyone here have kids, or live in PA now or ever, or be Kate's age, or have been to NY or LA, or ever even met anyone in the entertainment business--to hold the very reasonable opinion that these children should NOT WORK ANYMORE.

If they're going to suggest that, I'm going to suggest that unless they too have put their kids on a reality show, they have no right to say that what Kate does to her kids is okay. It cuts both ways, crazies.

As I tell my kids, smart is as smart does. It's what you do with your God given intelligence that matters more than how high your IQ is or how many degrees you have. College is a means to an end it's not an indicator of your intelligence level nor does it make you better than someone else. I have a degree but I agree, college is not for everyone and as you said that's okay.

Snark alert below!

Well, Laurie, I'm a speech therapist and social worker in Philly and drive every day to New York, but I also work for cable companies, checking to see what people watch. I do this in my spare time from my single family home, and there are times that I do watch the Kate show, only accidentally, oh, yes, I do, and if it's watched by accident it's not counted in the ratings, oh, no it isn't. I also work for an accidental channel-changing insurance company.

That said in jest, I think that I could watch if I were forced to watch under penalty of severeness, only with the channel on mute. That voice and shrieking drive me crazy. I could be threatened with the medieval rack torture device, but I still wouldn't un-mute the channel.

That whole NYC debacle was almost a year ago and it seems like yesterday. She'll be done soon enough. She's doing radio and print interviews and the lone pap gave up. Nobody cares anymore.

Well, I stand corrected. The younger kids are now on INFDaily, being filmed and photographed without a parent present. That is so sad to me. Why doesn't this film crew tape those kids in the back where nobody can take pictures of them? Never mind, I know the answer. Apparently there will be another show with mommy doing what's fun for her and the little kids playing like normal kids, with a nanny instead of their father. Yawnfest.

AMD said... 37

It's just so wrong that the children are being filmed without a parent present and that the parent who has responsibility for the children has gone to another city. So eight children are left alone with one sitter and what appears to be an all-male film production crew. Good parenting, Kate!

mamaK said... 38

I checked out the photos on INFDaily. I'm disturbed by them. The kids are running around in men's white t-shirts playing with water guns. Now, I really would love to know why three young girls need to be in white t-shirts and followed around by three men taping them as they spray water onto each other. Especially when there is NO parent present.

Jeez....how about actually encouraging individuality and separating the kids once in a while? My word, they are stuck on that compound with no one but their siblings all the time. No wonder 2 of them had social problems in school!
I'm going to assume that none of those kids will ever experience what it's like to have a neighborhood "gang" to hang out with, never just up and go knock on a friend's door to just see what's up, and never get the fun of summer camp.
What a weird f*ing existence, having a film crew in your face at every turn. Those kids are not going to know what normalcy is.
I really hope Jon gets to have them more over the summer. At least they know that with their Dad, their moments are private and unguarded.
So, again, those minor children are working at home with Mom and older siblings double filming in DC. No parent on site. No legal guardian. No set teacher. No one to represent their best interests who in not directly benefitting, financially or otherwise (trips, VIP treatment, restaurants, clubs) from their labor.
Sickening.

Tucker's Mom said... 40

I wonder if Jon will get to take the kids away on vacation this summer. Isn't that kind of normal? For the dad (or non-custodial parent) to get a bit more visitation when the kids are out of school?

Laurie said... 41

What makes me sad about the pictures on INF is the fact that in some of them the kids look like they're just standing around waiting for the next shot to be set up so they can run around and "have fun". It's all for the cameras. I wonder if they'd be doing this if the cameras were not rolling. One would think that Shoka would be right in the thick of things if he's as loved and spoiled as Kate claims. I know my dogs always enjoyed a good romp with the kids - especially if there was water involved!

The topic I'm referring to is the Casey Anthony trial. Have any of you been following this murder/trial and if so, what's your take on it? Does anyone besides me think that Casey and Kate G. have several similarities in regard to character flaws, etc.? Did Casey murder her daughter and if so, did someone else help her commit the crime? Do you think that she will be found guilty or not guilty? If found guilty, what will the jury charge her with? Is there any chance that she might actually receive the death penalty? Do you think that she truly might have been sexually molested by her father?
I'd be interested in all of your opinions (if you have one) if Admin doesn't mind us discussing this for a little while.

I guess we can correctly assume that those men's white tees weren't donated by Jon?

Filming without a parent or guardian present more than disturbs me. I'd never allow it. I haven't read the new bill, but does it make it mandatory for a background check to be done on ALL film personnel present? There had been talk about that. I don't care if they are considered an extended family or not, I'd want to personally read each and every one of those background checks that were conducted. I'd want to know exactly who was around my children even though I would be present at all times.

Then again, I'm an old Mother Hen who wouldn't let her young chicks go on a field trip in a car that was driven by a male parent that I had never met and knew nothing about. I did the driving instead.

Kate does not have individual children, she has one 10 year old, one 7 year old girl and one 7 year old boy, the rest are clones. At least when they are with Jon, he lets them dress any way they want. I also see the episode after mondays, Kate has yet another kids are cooking, and yet another lets be giving, this time to Dialysis patients. Which I hope Kate did some homework to know that Dialysis patients are on strict/special diets, they have to watch water amount and potassium levels in foods. I know, cause my late mother was on Dialysis for the last 2 years of her life. Kate took nursing instruction, but seeing first hand how she was when the kids got sick, or when that poor chicken got pecked to death, and the dogs, before they were removed, I question that?

PatK said... 48

What the hell? How in the world does she get away with having the little kids filmed again while she is out of town and no parent/guardian on premises? Does the nanny or Ashley or Carla have guardianship over these kids in her absence?

I would not be surprised if TLC will film mondays event, for a future episode. Cause they are certainly gonna film the crap out of those kids, this summer and all they can get in fall, before that contract expires in feb 2012. I also think they may have given Kate the word, on no renewal. For nothing all of a sudden Kate becomes a good mom, good girl and does what TLC tells her to do? Does not sound right.

I accidentally wandered over to the dark side, yes, I did, and I'm always dumbfounded by the well, dumb comments there. One sheeple said that she didn't believe that Kate hates Jon or feels negative toward him but that she outgrew him.

I didn't realize that when one exchanges wedding vows, the couple includes the phrase, "I promise to love, honor and cherish you until death do us part. Unless, of course, I outgrow you."

Sheeple do provide, if nothing else, amusement and entertainment however juvenile it may be.

Do these sheeple think if they defend Kate they will get something out of it? A BFF always & always? Please. Kate could not care less about these people. All she sees are dollar signs...CHA_CHING.

How do you know Kate is not there? She's probably inside with purseboy or sunning by the pool. I bet ol' Steve took those INF photos since Chris Watts has moved on. I mean, who cares about kids running around with water guns? *crickets*

I came home from work today and saw a gaggle of kids in my front yard and the yard next door. It brought me back to 1975 and my childhood. (yes I'm showing my age)Both gangs have been playing with each other all day according to my father. I pity the Gosselin kids.

So OVER KrazyKate, been watching the Casey Anthony trial. Can't believe there's a worst mother in the headlines.

Those were the great days of summer, when I ran around the neighborhood all day and had to be dragged in at dusk. The G kids will never know what that's like.
I've been riveted to the Anthony trial. It's utterly fascinating and repulsive at the same time.

I see why Khate finally fessed the "family/crew" rotate. Those are not the same guys to me, maybe one - the one that ran with the ice cream cones in NY. Didn't see the older guy and never saw the blonde guy before. I though it was illegal for them to be filmed without a parent on set. I see also they are bringing Ashley on to the payroll. TLC must have convinced her that she could not a carry a showon her own that somebody else had to be in the mix, which is probably why the ratings are up. Who could bear to watch with Khate is every single frame.

It was a different time back then. All of us roamed the neighborhood all day, playing in everyone's backyard, eating at the friend's home where we were when it was suppertime. We can't let our kids run around a neighborhood anymore because you don't know who or what is lurking in the shadows or in broad daylight.

There still may be neighborhoods where residents don't lock their doors (I don't even think our door had a lock on it), but those are few and far between. When it comes to our children, we can't let our guard down, and this includes ALL children, not just the Gosselins.

I hope the Gosselin kiddies have the day off from work this Sunday, so that they can celebrate Father's Day with their "biological" father- not a bunch of hired strangers....

One of the guests on Jane V-M (commenting on Casey Anthony) just said that we are living in a culture of narcissism, where parents think the way to win the affection of their children is to shower them with material possessions.
Sound familiar?

Just saw this on the AOL homepage, but Kate Middleton shelved plans to hire a housekeeper for their Kensington Palace apartment.

According to the article: "Aides said the couple were "sensitive" to economic difficulties in the country."

Imagine that, perfectly healthy young people deciding to scrub their own toilets because they are conscious most of their subjects wouldn't be able to afford the luxury of paying for somebody to do it. I like this couple more and more.

Oh silly you, Pink, what's DNA matter? These kids have lots of Dads in the film crew don't ya know? They should spend Father's Day with them.

Midnight you made me snort coke all over my desk at work! Too funny!

I took a look at the INF pictures and if Shoka is such a beloved/spoiled pet why isn't he in any of the pictures with the kids? My dog always loved to be in the thick of things. One thing that I find sad are the pictures of the kids just standing around while the "dads" adjust the cameras for the next shot of them having "fun".....queue music and ACTION!

Her twatters are twatting her about deaths in their family? I'm terribly sorry for anyone who loses someone they love but something is very wrong if you are looking to a celebrity on twatter to give their sympathy for you and help you through that.

Don't they have friends, or family, they turn to in a loss? A grown woman crying on the shoulder of a D-list celebrity?

Laurie, do you mean to tell me that you snort coke on company time?:)))

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 69

Moose, you are not an old mother hen. You are a practical, reasonable, devoted parent.

No GOOD PARENT would ever just leave their 7 year old to WORK alone. Most stage parents I've ever known or heard about are usually TOO involved and would never dream of putting their child on a set without them present.

The world of movies and TV and acting and reality tv is an adult world, and if a child is going to navigate that, it's just basic common sense that a parent or guardian should be with them at all times to make sure everything is okay.

To me this really has little to do with whether this crew would ever try to hurt the kids, although I fully support background checks I really don't think it's likely these guys want to do anything but get the shot. But this was a hot summer day. If you are not even there, how do you know the producer isn't making a tired and thirsty child get in JUST ONE MORE SHOT. They are not there to keep track of eight children and their comfort levels. They are there to get the shot.

There is a HUGE conflict of interest in expecting this crew to just have their best interests at heart. They don't, nor is this their job!!

And I've never seen this crew ever before in photos.

You as a parent need to be there to advocate for your child, every moment of any shoot.

Any good parent would do this, period. There is no way to justify not being on set while your child is being filmed. None.

Kate doesn't care about these things even when she is present. Does anyone remember Jodi/Julie saying that Jodi always looked out for the kids while they were filming, putting her foot down about breaks, etc.?

Wonder why Kate even bothered naming her children, she dehumanizes them all the time with the "plus eight" and calling them the "twins" and "the little kids", and no doubt she'll soon start refering to Jon as either their biological dad or the sperm donor. It is all about KATE

Thanks, Bear, glad I could give a chuckle here and there!

Also, Kate is a joke. It has taken her almost seven years to so call: give back. And Kate only gives back if she gets paid to give back.

I wonder if Jon will get to take the kids away on vacation this summer. Isn't that kind of normal? For the dad (or non-custodial parent) to get a bit more visitation when the kids are out of school?

As I tell my kids, smart is as smart does. It's what you do with your God given intelligence that matters more than how high your IQ is or how many degrees you have. College is a means to an end it's not an indicator of your intelligence level nor does it make you better than someone else. I have a degree but I agree, college is not for everyone and as you said that's okay.
