Halloween as a social skill building activity

Kate deprived her children of more than just treats when she chose to skip Halloween this year

Kate admitted in a recent blog post that the sextuplets missed out on Halloween due to "schedule" conflicts (Kate was having the time of her life on The View's Halloween special that morning) and a snowstorm (that occurred a full two days before the holiday and had all melted away by then). At least the twins were able to go trick-or-treating with some friends. Kate thinks she made up for Halloween the next day by hiding discounted candy around the basement and having the children find it. But is this enough?

Not by a long shot, according to Dr. Polly Blake Dunn, Ph.D., a Licensed Psychologist specializing in child psychology. Halloween is a great time to build a child's social skills. Here are some of her tips:

  • Encourage your kids to make eye contact with people handing out candy and friends and neighbors that they might see on Halloween night.  The earlier our children get the hang of this important social skill, the better.
  • Remind your children not to run off to the next house, but say thank you as they leave. Who doesn’t want to say thank you to someone who has just handed them a piece of candy? Unfortunately, it’s easy to forget this step when there is more candy waiting for you right next door. This might take several reminders, but learning how and when to express gratitude is important.
  • It’s important to teach our children that they aren’t always going to get what they want.  Make sure they know that they should still say thank you, even if they don’t like what they were given.
  • Teach patience. One of the hardest parts of Halloween for kids is waiting!  First, they have to wait until the last day of the tenth month for Halloween to finally arrive. Then, they have to wait until nighttime for the fun to really begin.  Once the trick-or-treating is underway, they have to wait behind other children who might have gotten to their neighbor’s door first.  And finally, they have to wait until they get home to really get a good look at their loot (not to mention eating all of those yummy treats)!  Remind your children ahead of time that they will probably have to be patient.
And one from Realitytvkids.com:
  • Encourage fun and silliness! It's important for kids to know there is a time and a place to just let loose, dress up as something scary or funny and not be embarrassed, hang out with friends and have a great time while still being safe. Work hard, but play hard, too.

Has she ever addressed the FACT that there was a piece of paper there he appeared to be reaching for, and not a water bottle?

I think Kate's story is the real tall tale here.

Admin, you should try your hand at doing comics. I get a great laugh out of your blog pictures and phrases.

Old news. We all know that Kate couldn't care less about nurturing her children, much less helping to develop their social skills.

She said it herself: "I don't care." August, 2011. That sums up her attitude toward her children perfectly.

Marie said... 5

Wait a minute. Was it one tree or all her trees? I cannot keep Kate's lies straight even if I wanted to!

And please tell me she didn't say she puts an explamation point at the end of every sentence just because she happens to think her life is really that exciting? News Flash--your life isn't that exciting.

If I wanted to I could put an explamation point at the end of every sentence, too! But you know what?! It would only make me look really, really stupid!!!

Kate said "I was thrilled to find ALL the Halloween candy on clearance since it was a day after Halloween and filled a basket for only $21 instead of $35-$40! What a bargain! Bargains make my heart sing and this find made me even more excited to carry out my plan!"

So will this be one of her money saving tips for her new blog? Something that everyone already knows.

According to Kate, this whole "crawling under the van" thing is fiction because the tabloid reported it as Thursday when it happened Tuesday. As if that one little day-of-the-week mistake negates the whole thing.

Kids are allowed to crawl under 4,000 pound hot vans on Tuesdays! It's only dangerous and careless on Thursdays, people, but this was done on a Tuesday so it's ok.

The wicked witch at her computer - love it. It must have been so disappointing for the younger children not to have gone trick-or-treating on Halloween night. As I said earlier, the next day their classmates would be all talking about their adventures the night before; they must have really felt left out. Small consolation to them when they scurried around the next night to find 'half price' candy. Halloween is more than just 'candy'. The really fun part is the excitement of dressing up and the grown-ups pretending to be scared when the children ring the doorbell. She, who prides herself on making memories for the children, creates friction. Imagine the twins being able to go out but not the younger ones.

People who truly do have exciting lives don't usually have the time to add a bunch of "!!!!" to every sentence to drive the point home.

For most people, it's not about making sure everyone else knows how exciting your life is.

Pam said... 12

Those kids are really going to hate her when they grow up.

She thinks they will be saying, "You made good decisions, thank you."

No, they will be saying, "You ruined my childhood for your own selfish wants and needs, now get out of my life! I never want to see your Botoxed face ever again!"

Kate has admitted before that she had a hard childhood and hinted that her parents were harsh/ over disciplinarians. What makes her think her kids aren't going to think the same things? Does she REALLY think all the TLC funded trips will make up for how poorly she treated them?

Ask any 7 year old what they would prefer. Going trick-or-treating with friends on Halloween, or going to New Zealand with a camera crew of random men. I bet most would choose trick-or-treating. Too bad kids. If there was a camera crew that was willing to follow you going door to door in your adorable costumes ( and then aired it on tv ), mommy would've gladly taken you. You wouldn't have had to settle for clearance candy the next day that you had to search for yourselves in the basement.

Your mother is lame. L.a.m.e.

Great post and picture.

To be perfectly honest, would I really care about this Halloween thing if this stupid woman did not picture herself as the Super Mom of 8? So listen up sweetheart, normal moms (not Super Moms per se) get started on Halloween when school starts, they plan costumes with their children, either start making or buying them, it's a big deal. And if "business" takes you away on the holiday, you make other plans for your children, you do NOT cancel Halloween. If you think you are so important that your silly View gig is all that, then you either get yourself home for the kids, or you make sure someone is there so that THEY do get to participate. This holiday is about kids. And while you're at it, think about letting the kids' father have real access to them and their home, so that perhaps their childhood lives actually are about THEM. And that craptastic blog you write - spend some time and actually read some real mommy blogs. Those moms were writing (and doing Halloween) all through the fall - it's actually embarrassing to think you would write about a post Halloween candy hunt with your half-price goodies - seriously? Have those kids thanked you enough by now - yep, don't think so.

Ah, the storm - funny how communities all around you were able to figure out Halloween for the KIDS. And now it looks like for all your whining and moaning, you lost ONE tree. Pathetic. Have fun twitting with all your high school buddies this weekend, perhaps they will make you feel better about all the poor parenting choices you made this week alone.

I do feel sorry for the kids...they are all adorable. Does anyone know what kind of "work" she was doing yesterday that she was so excited about?

Audible Click said... 15

I was saddened but not surprised that the tups missed out on Halloween. Someday those kids will remember the way they were treated and if they don't remember they will be able to read about it on the internet. It's not just missing Halloween it's about the total disconnect that Kate has achieved regarding her children. She half-heartedly plays at being a mother when it suits her agenda and who knows how bad it will become in the future. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Kate Gosselin has the nurturing instinct of a pit viper.

Marie said... 16

Kate will buy bargin day-late candy for her kids and be excited about $20, but will turn around and lavish herself with Ted Gibson. And if he works on Kate's hair...I don't think he should be all that proud. It is just really wrong. Kate knows it but just doesn't care. And she thinks this makes her a good mother? Not.

Note to Kate: the kids have a father who could have taken them trick or treating. They would have had a lot more fun spending the evening with their dad and joining the fun with other kids than the pathetic option you gave them, searching for bargain candy in the basement.

Hippie Chick - loved your post in the last thread, honored that you remembered lil ol' me =)

Regarding Halloween or any other "memory making" moment : as another poster commented, K8 does anything BUT do "everything for the kids" unless it is filmed.

I think the social skills listed are great and very valid, I would like to add that it is also a great opportunity to teach your children to not be greedy. I always stress that my kids should take JUST ONE, especially if there is an unsupervised bowl of candy on the front stoop.I also remind them to not run through the piles of leaves that people have worked hard to collect. Of course, saying thank you is a must.

I have been following this psycho since the beginning, I just CANNOT believe it has not gotten any better for those poor kids =(

Pity Party said... 20

She must have got another new gig, since she has gone from woe is me to an exciting life and an insane life that she truly loves!!! She always gets testy when she is full of herself. She is going to need a of them (gigs) to make a fraction of what TLC was paying her (in spite of what she says). I think she was low balling that figure because they started taking the 15% out for the kids.

I am not a Halloween person - I always hated that holiday. I hate the premise of ghosts, goblins and ghouls. But my kids always went trick or treating, until later when the church started having not a Halloween festival but a fall festival on Halloween night. Then we went there.

Don't think you're going to get even a glimpse of Kate's exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! news any time soon. She does this frequently on Twitter, drops little hints about BIG things, and it's just a way to get the hype up. The sheeple will beg her for an inkling, but she plays the game her way. If in fact it's anything at all, I doubt it will be life-altering for her OR her fans. Perhaps she has found someone to comp her trips to Australia and/or Las Vegas in the next few weeks. She would be THRILLED by that, but it would certainly not qualify as the Big News her fans yearn for.

Westcoaster said... 22

It is not just about Halloween, this latest is just another example in how she perverts normal family, and yes normal even for a large family, to suit her narcississtic whims. We all know that if for some odd reason Steve Irwin day in Australia fell on Xmas, she would miss that one with her kids too. And their dad would not get the option should it not be 'his' holiday. In her world everyone eventually loses.

Call Me Crazy said... 23

One of the most special memories I have about Halloween was something that happened when I was 7 or 8. That year, Halloween fell on a Sunday, but my family had to go out of state to visit relatives that weekend. We weren't going to get back home until Sunday night. I was so upset about missing trick-or-treating.

The thing I remember more vividly than my upset was that my parents rushed home as fast as they could so that my sister and I could trick-or-treat, even for a few minutes.

We pulled into the driveway at about 8:00 PM. My Mom jumped out of the car with us, hurried us into makeshift costumes, and walked us down the block. We went to about 10 houses on our street. I still remember that I got one of those strips of paper with little multi-color dots of candy attached to it. The candy was great, but seeing that my Mom and Dad understood what was important to their children was even greater, and profoundly comforting.

Children don't care about extravagances. What they will always remember the most are the efforts put into making them feel loved, safe, respected and happy.

It's pretty pathetic to think about that many kids all missing out on the fun of Halloween.

You know what could have solved this whole kHate-induced drama ... stay home b!tch. Say NO to The View.

You didnt have anything to promote, pimp out, create a buzz around or anything worthwhile. An actual, loving, considerate parent would have politely declined (maybe even asked if you could do it another day instead?)

Halloween is a ton of fun for most parents and kids. I love handing out candy, scaring the older kids that come to the door and generally socializing with the neighbors. My cul de sac has TWO haunted houses (out of 7 homes) that dad's build each year in their garages. We had over 125 people come to the door this year and I handed out over 9 lbs of candy.

In fact, my annual Halloween Bash was SAT night this year and ended at 5am Sunday morning (with 13 people sleeping on my couches, beds and floors.) Ex wife called me Sunday and asked if she could host a second party at my place Monday Night, as the kids wanted to hang here and trick or treat this neighborhood (and I do have somewhat of a party house...) So somehow i did a second, kid friendly party on Halloween night. With a constant stream of folks at the door and a crowd always out front for the haunted houses we all had a blast, I LOVE Halloween!

How tough is it REALLY to just act like a parent once in awhile? Many of us enjoy (yes ENJOY) doing it every day, but I find it sad and pathetic that some people with straw hair and horse teeth cant seem to rally themselves even a couple times a year.

Unless, of course, she is to be paid or filmed or somehow garner attention for herself.

Is she skipping Xmas next?

I want to go back to Colin under the BBB again. Someone asked on the other thread what the Sheeple/Kate would do if it were Jon who allowed this. Well, a few years ago, back before Jon was banned from the property, a picture was snapped of some of the kids sitting on Jon's STATIONARY ATV without wearing any
safety helmets. The Sheeple were up in arms about Jon endangering the lives of the kids and demanding that he be stripped of his parental rights. I wonder where those Sheeple are now? Or do they consider sitting on a motionless ATV more dangerous than being under a several ton van?

Interesting post, Admin. I like the information from the psychologist. I guess I never looked at Halloween as a skill building social opportunity before. I just always saw it as a chance to score free candy LOL. Love the cartoon.

the piece of paper that Collin is apparently going after under the bus is shaped like one of the paper airplanes that we used to make in junior school- triangular, folded to a point on one end.
Could it be that Collin was playing with a paper airplane and it flew under the bus, and he crawled under to retrieve it? If so, I sure hope he didn't get to meet the red plastic spoon when he got home!

If it makes sense, Kate does the opposite.

It is easier for a Narcissist to control another human being through fear & isolation.

Once the little Gosselins find out how "normal" families live, they are going to overpower Kate.

Oh, and one more thing.
How convenient for Kate, that when pressed if a story is fact or not, she always talks about an error in the date, nothing else.
Nevermind the obvious.

I guess ignoring photo evidence means that it never happened.

Pretty slick.

mama mia said... 31

Kate thinks since she has six children the same age they should be their own friends and playmates and that is the problem. They are siblings and they need their own friends, their own identities, their own social experiences and most importantly, they need to be out and about in public doing what their peers are doing. And that is getting in a costume and knocking on doors for candy, not scrambling around their basement looking for candy their mother doles out to them. This has always been my criticism of Kate, she doesn't let her kids live their lives as they rightfully should. If you get the chance, I recommend reading the book "Room", it is about a woman abducted and locked in a hidden room where she has a baby and raises him there, with no other stimulation but her and their "home".

roxyhelen said... 32

mama mia thanks for the book recommendation, I will definitely purchase and read it as soon as I get some free time. Also, we've been saying for years that these kids are being denied individuality by dressing them alike and keeping them isolated from other kids.

fade2black said... 33

I agree completely that Halloween can be a big teaching opportunity for all the reasons listed above, but lots of kids don't get to trick or treat for various justifiable reasons and they turn out just fine. For these particular children, I think the biggest loss in this is the once a year chance to be nobody special, just one of the crowd. Slap on a costume and mask and voila!, the child is no longer identifiable as One of The Gosselin Sextuplets and, just like all the mediocre children, they can enjoy just being a child for a few hours.

The Weatherman said... 34

I think the bigger point is WHO is the better parent. Jon may only get the children every other weekend, but while he has them, they do regular normal kid stuff. Riding bikes with neighbors, eating out for pizza, shopping at the mall, parks to play, picnics (in the summer) they even got to go get dressed up the weekend BEFORE Halloween because Jon obviously wanted to experience that with them. (Kate had them last Halloween if we all recall) I'm pretty sure they ended up going to friends' houses to 'trick or treat'.
Kate does everything she can to make Jon look like the bad parent, but she can't control anything he does when he has the kids. She can talk the talk, but she ain't walkin' the walk, just stomping around in her hooker heels. Jon however is walking the walk and doing his best without having to have accolades from teenage twitter fans. For that I give him credit.

I've always thought kart keeps her kids isolated so they can't tell stories about their homelife and so they won't see what other kids are doing.

I have a really hard time believing that the kids get to go over to friends houses - that would entail kart having to deal with other mothers.

kart has zero social skills and if I were mother of a child in her kids classes, I'd hate to have to even talk with her, much less put up with some of her kids who don't seem to have much in the way of social skills either.

I keep remembering how they all seemed to fight amongst themselves while she looked the other way.

It is very sad how she is raising them, isolated, without other families for role models.... their only hope to view normal family life is to visit with their dad or Jodi and Kevin.

I wonder if Jon takes them over to visit their aunt/uncle/grandmother when it's his visitation days?

Admin, I didn't mean to imply that Kate's self-indulgent trip to the View was in any way justifiable. I meant there are valid reasons to skip the holiday; religious beliefs, illness, etc., definitely NOT vanity. The kids who miss Halloween for these kinds of reasons are, I'm sure, made to understand the reason for it, accept it and learn a different kind of life-lesson. Hopefully not the "mommy loves herself more than you" lesson.

Does Kate not realize that the parents of her children's schoolmates can read her tweets and blogs as well as everything else Gosselin on the internet? That the parents probably discuss her tweets and blogs with their children? That the children may use this information to tease or bully the Gosselin children? This Halloween blog makes Kate look disorganized, cheap (as opposed to cost-conscious),selfish and, worst of all, completely insensitive to her children's needs.

Overthehill ~ Yes kate did sit in costume on the View without a care in the world that her own tups would not be dressing up for Halloween. Elizabeth asked Kate if she would be taking her kids out trick-or-treating and Kate evaded the question by rambling on about the snow. She then pointed out they could not even paint their pumpkins due to the snowfall. Such lies & exaggerations from this women. And I see the kids are still not allowed, nor will they ever be allowed to make messes (as in carve their pumpkins), just as Ashley boldly & honestly pointed out during one of the last shows.

The women on the View were a joke during the 8 minutes Kate sat with them. Although it was interesting watching Whoopie display a miriad of facial expressions during that seqment. She showed disgust, disdain, & impatience. She rightfully has no respect for Kate & it showed.

This is actually a pretty far away trip to take for someone who will not let the other parent around when she is out of town - no close family or friends, so the babysitter, the probably close to teenage babysitter, will be in total charge of 8 children while she is thousands of miles away. Choices.

I don't comment much, but on this I have too. On Halloween I left my house @ 7 am (like usual) to drive the carpool to school then it's off to work for 8+ hours. I arrive home @ 5:15 pm with take-out dinner for my kids and the neighbor children who are going out trick or treating with them. We eat, play around, and get out the door by 6:45. EASY PEASY! Actually it easy because I don't have to cook dinner or help my 3 (count them 3) kids with homework that night. Everyone is home with candy in tow by 8:45. (with a stop for hot chocolate at a neighbors house) AND I'm not even a organized mom!

Kate Krieder is probably one of the most pathetic moms out there. Halloween is right next to Christmas as a children's favorite holiday. My kids start planning their costumes months in advance (like their Christmas lists) Trick or Treat in the basement. How sad is that?

I just hope Jon is working to get custody of these children or change the custody agreement to when Kate is out of town he gets first dibs on the children and "not a nanny".

So all great moms unite!!! Start encouraging your kids to retrieve items from under 2 ton vehicles! Why wasn't this brilliant idea thought of before? No more having to move the vehicle to get something from underneath yourself. Just find a small child to crawl under there and get it! What would we do without Kate Gosselin and her creative mothering skills? Life will be so much easier now. Yay!

All joking aside, am truly shaing my head that this nitwit said Kate was a great mom for allowing her kid to crawl under the van. She was so impressed that she told her own kid to do the same.

True story ( you can Google it on Find a Grave.com ) In 1961, a little girl almost 3 years old, Connie Jarriel, was helping a neighbor get groceries out of the car when something fell out of a bag and rolled underneath. Connie crawled under the car to get it and the car started rolling backwards and the tired rolled over her tiny head, killing her instantly. This is why the whole crawling under the van thing made my blood run cold, and Kate's blaise attutude about the whole thing not being fact because it was a Tuesday when it happened just makes me cringe. I still think about this terrible accident all the time. I see Connie's grave each time I visit the cememtery.

The Wall Street Journal today had an article on race runners who do not register to run, don't pay entry fee.

Some of them actually make up fake bibs. Some races have 'entry police' along the route to pull fake runners out of the race.

Real racers say the fake runners don't pay to run, drink the food/snacks along the way, actually have gotten medals/ribbons at the end even though they don't have bib (they say they lost it along the way).

One finish line photo even showed two runners crossing the finish line, both having the same bib number! One was real, one was fake.

Apparently it's very common for fake runners to start in the middle of the race and still cross finish line.

Race coordinators spend a ton of money to organize race, food, drinks, EMTs along the way, tents, t-shirts, bibs... the costs are enormous. Those who run and claim drinks/medals fraudulently make legitimate runners pretty angry.

The article stated that one marathon had 19,000 register and 21,000 finish..... hmmmm.......

This makes me wonder if miss entitlement queen, kart, would just say, "tough tittie, I'm going to run in the full marathon. Let them try to stop me"......

Head smack - what am I saying. She'll run 5 miles then pull out, either saying she finished or saying she hurt something. As long as she gets a purseboy pap photo.

If she says it, it's a lie. Simple.

She really thinks she can run a full marathon when she has never run any competitive race, and has yet to run a half-marathon? She really has no sense of reality whatsoever. Of course we know that, but it just keeps getting better.

OK, here's an excellent question:

In general, can it be done/is it wise to have a pregnancy AFTER a tummy tuck?

She had a lot of muscle tightening in addition to the excess skin removal. Oh, and don't forget that lovely belly button placement.

Can a uterus stretched by 6 babies handle a single birth to term?

I'm an old L&D and NICU nurse but I never had that situation come up when working. Back in the day, after a HOM pregnancy the woman usually had her tubes tied during the c/section.

I would imagine Kate has some tie-in with the running thing in Las Vegas. She is probably one of the d-list stars that they are promoting and so she is running free of charge and will be able to change over to the marathon if her little heart desires---even though it is all sold out. I find it hard to believe that she was running 13 miles and now, all of the sudden, she jumped up to 18 miles! Wouldn't a normal person gradually work up to an extra 5 miles??

And I bet her "exciting news" is just how wonderfully well her talk went and how they all loved her and couldn't get enough of her. Oh, and that she is headed to Australia this week.

From previous thread, Kate Gosselin said at college speaking event:
"I want my kids to grow up and look back on their childhood and say, 'You made good decisions. I'm proud of you. I love you and thank you,'" she said.
-----------

So Kate...was having your sextuplets miss Halloween a "good decision" your kids were proud of and thanked you for?

It's sad that she only goes all-out or gets into it when it was filmed. Perhaps she thinks that one Halloween episode will be the ONE memory the kids will always remember about Halloween and forget the not-so-memorable ones. Yeah, right. Some kids tend to remember their best and worst experiences, this being one of them.

Thanks for posting the psychologist's tips about Halloween as a social building activity, Admin. Sadly, Kate doesn't even use this as a teaching moment with her kids, as seen in the Halloween episode. It's all about getting as much free candy as possible.

On YouTube, Kate Plus 8 Ghosts, Goblins, and Ghouls, Pt. 2: Trick-or-treating starts @ 15:54

- no eye-contact (busy choosing candy while adult comments on their costumes)
- no immediate 'thank-you' but a group 'thank-you' (probably prompted by Kate) before running off to the next house
- not respecting others' properties (my parents always told us to stay on the walkways, avoid walking on neighbors' lawns as a sign of respect)

Additionally, my parents taught us that if we were allowed to choose one candy, choose quickly and among the ones you see on top and not dig through the candy bowl. The neighbor is being generous enough with handing out candy, we shouldn't be picky about what we get.

Far as I can see this Rock and Roll marathon is a party, not a serious challenge, so she should at least be able to finish without keeling over at the finish. Of course Steve will have all the boob bouncing flics at the finish line, lol

Also, would any runner here attempt to run even a 1/2 marathon after, let's say, 10 days of travelling across the world?

I wonder if she throws it into the kids' faces the fact that SHE gets to go to Australia but they can't. I would imagine Cara and Mady would be plenty envious.

When they actually occur, what a big letdown, really stupid. PaMa's recap is very telling of how boring and disconnected that speech was. NY Giants QB Phil Simms was guest speaker at my HS graduation, he was witty, self deprecating and inspirational. He had the whole audience, laughing & whooping it up. I just can't image Kate will finish a full marathon. There are time limits in completing this. For a full marathon, it's 4 hours and 30 minutes. For the half marathon it's 4 hours. You have to be very serious about running to attempt the full marathon.

I think she will attempt it, but she will become dehydrated and will be forced to stop. Then she will blame someone or something for the fact that she got dehydrated.

I hope that the kids just didn't get to go trick or treating, not that they missed the entire holiday of Halloween, costumes, parties, pumpkins and everything else. Was the school closed due to the freak blizzard and/or resulting power outages? My mother's school was, and they had the festivities on Friday, although it was less exciting than it would have been (only some people in costume instead of almost everybody, for example).

Missing one aspect of a holiday because of bad weather is one thing. Cancelling the entire holiday because you feel like going on television and your needs come above your kids is another. Why couldn't the nanny take the kids trick or treating?

A couple of other odd comments. If Kate is so into the organic food, why would she feel so bad that her kids didn't have nerds and m and m's? Also, if her image is so much about being supermom, isn't going on the View on a major kiddy holiday counteracting that? She needs a new agent.

I think the whole thing is made up, and she's paid to push whatever candy she mentioned in that blog.

Why, just why does Kate always have to be in a competition? With Jon, with the media, with her kids, with herself? It is the strangest thing I have ever heard of. She is 36, not 15. All this trying to self-prove or prove herself, most of us have moved on from those days. Days of trying to outdo someone just so you feel better about yourself.

Admin, I think you could do wonderfully as doing a post of narcissism. It's traits, (i.e. things we see Kate has), the supposed tie into OCD, etc.

Kate, I feel very sadly, is going to become one of those bitter old ladies who lives alone, resents the world and everyone in it because life didn't go the way she wanted it to. She will lock herself into a dark room and mourn her past-life as a star. Huddle into a chair while watch old plus 8 films with a big bottle of Sake, frozen pizzas, non-organic ice cream and keep trying to dial Steve's disconnected number. In the end will mutter it was never any of her fault.

Boy, I know I sound really mean but for once in my life I think she kind of deserves it.

The more I read here about Kate, the more I'm realizing that my own mother had narcissistic tendencies too. When I was young, I do remember having a cute costume when I was in the second grade. But as the years passed (and I still wanted to dress up), my mom lost interest and didn't bother getting us costumes. She always complained of being broke, yet she always had a closet packed full of clothes and shoes (I had to earn my own clothes money beginning at age 13 by babysitting).

My worst memory was fifth grade. I had no costume, so I had to scrounge up an old sheet or something that resembled a costume. My mom didn't care that I had to go out ALONE at age 10. I still remember being scared, but I went anyway. My mom was really wrapped up in those years with her married boyfriend...does this sound familiar?

While my mom was not as bad as Kate, she still put herself first and her kids were an afterthought. I only began to realize her selfishness as an adult when began to realize that other kids weren't raised like me.

So as bad as it is for the Gosselin kids, I doubt they realize her selfishness. They love her and don't have the maturity yet. But they will understand some day, and they will be angry like I am. And I am 50 years old!

Marie, competitiveness when it's not necessary or appropriate is a common trait of narcissists. We've seen this over and over with Kate, she is in some kind of bizarre competition with her own children that they didn't sign up for. Have you seen Mommy Dearest? It may be a cult film but it nailed all the traits of narcissism. One scene in particular, Joan Crawford races Christina in the pool and beats her. Christina complains that she ALWAYS wins because she's bigger and stronger. Mom is basically like, oh well that's life kid!

Reminded of me of when Kate was in NYC with the kids playing whack-a-mole, and just had to beat them. Huh, what???

Kids DO sometimes need to learn to lose, but what mother hasn't allowed their kid to win something now and again?

Here is a little blurb about competition:
Narcissists are envious and competitive in ways that are hard to understand. For instance, one I knew once became incensed over an article published in a national magazine -- not for its content exactly, but because she could have written something just as good. Maybe she could have -- she hadn't, but that little lapse on her part was beside the point to her. They are constantly comparing themselves (and whatever they feel belongs to them, such as their children and furniture) to other people. Narcissists feel that, unless they are better than anyone else, they are worse than everybody in the whole world. ^

##########

It was not closed. There was a Halloween festival at school last Thursday. It's an annual celebration...a really big event that goes back decades. I did not see them there, but that is not to say that they weren't there, although if they had been, she most likely would have tweeted something about it. The kids did not get dressed up for Halloween at school. Only the Kindergarteners do that, with seniors leading them on a "parade" around the halls. Quite cute to watch with the oldest students walking hand in hand with the young ones.

Barb Gilman said... 85

I bet Mady and Cara are thrilled they won't miss school to fly to Australia. When students move up in grade levels, making up work is a huge pain. They would much rather be home and with their friends at school.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 86

I'm not sure it's the flight either since they flew first class on Qantas and according to Kate slept the whole way. I've heard great things about Qantas too. But I doubt the kids want to travel either, especially for something as "boring" as a gala and meet and greet. YAWN!

Most kids just want to go to school and be with their friends and go to sports practice and practice violin and see Daddy when they're supposed to see Daddy. For as much Kate claims traveling is wonderful, I never remember the kids talking constantly about it. They were far more likely to focus on something mundane to adults that kids focus on, like spotting a frog in the pool.

That's kids, Kate. They don't think like adults. Idiot. As Alison Angrham said,Because an adult thinks it would be "fun" to be famous they assume a child would too. But no it's often NOT fun!

mama mia, Rock-n-Roll is a real event, a real challenge, with real prize money for the top runners. I did it in Seattle and the partying goes on mostly on the sidelines. Yes, there is music, but runners don't really hear much of it. The courses are not mundane. In Seattle, we ran along the water and then through some pretty rough hills and through a freeway tunnel. The most I had run prior to my first 1/2 was 10 miles and I did the 13.1 with no problem at all. I don't think she can go from 13 to 26, but who knows? There's no way for her to fudge her time. You wear a timing chip and anyone at all can look up the times of any runner they want after race results are posted. But.....you either are registered for the 1/2 or the whole. Your bib indicates which. Your finisher medal reflects that too. You are placed in a corral with runners who run similar times to your own. You don't just 'decide' you're going to do the whole thing and do it. In fact, you'd have to make the switch fairly quickly, because the full marathon course is different than the 1/2. Everyone runs together for a certain distance and then full marathoners are directed to a different course. The only way you'd get dehydrated is if you don't drink at the hydration stations at each mile or so. They even offer sugar water for an extra boost, plus power gels after 10 miles or so. I don't really care what this stupid woman does, just wanted to clarify about that particular event and running in general. Cheers, all!

I really don't know, admin. It's always been that way. The Halloween festival is such a big deal when ALL of the kids dress up, and each grade is organized into a group, then announced, and each parades separately around the area, with parents and guests on the sidelines watching and applauding. This is always held before Halloween. To dress up again on Halloween would just be repetitious since everyone had already seen their classmates' costumes at the festival and parade a few days before.

Okay the thing about Splash/ Pacific Coast News pics is that if you ever see pics of Kate INSIDE a building or in another country they appear to be from Splash or Pacific Coast News.

First of all NO paps are allowed to go inside buildings (like the hallway of Regis and Kelly)
And I have at least 20 Aussie friends and J&K+8 only recently started airing there so they have literally NO clue who she was and the ONLY way that Kate could get pap pics in the rags and gossip sites was to take them herself and get Steve to send them into Splash or Pacific Coast News from Australia cause there were absolutely NO PAPS following her down there. Kate papped herself. Take a look at the Aus pics the kids are smiling FOR Steve.

Anon This Time said... 99

I seem to remember, also, that at one time everyone got dressed up, but because all grades were under one roof, upper schoolers' costumes got a bit out of hand and seemed to frighten the little kids, especially some of the scary masks and makeup. Parents who do not celebrate Halloween have the option of not going to the festival and therefore exposing their kids to it.

Gift of grab said... 100

Va Pen Mom, you're right. It was determined from the angle of all of those bikini shots in Aus that it had to have been Steve (or someone employed by Kate) taking the photos. If you remember them, she was clearly posing/preening for the camera.

Re Coupon Cabin, I mentioned on the last thread that they just raised $54mm and are embarking on a seriously ramped-up growth campaign. That is why I wouldn't be surprised if they put her on TV or had her traveling. Hard to imagine that they believe she could help their brand. The thing with Kate is you can't let her be at all extemporaneous, she has to be tightly scripted and monitored at all times. Remember, this is the woman who had to be coached what to say through an earpiece during that seminal interview with Natalie Morales.

Problem with Kate is, if she doesn't feel like she's "masterminding," she'll be a horror to deal with. I guess that's where old Road Manager comes in. Wonder if her new employers bothered to talk to any of her old employers before making her an offer.

Hubby and I traded off years - one to go and one to stay home and take pictures (old develop the film camera) and give out candy. We always took our neighbor's son with us. ( She was a nurse who worked the night shift.) Somewhere around the age of nine, son tried making a Gumby costume from cardboard. A quart of gaudy green paint! He looked quite authentic, but had to shuffle rather than walk. Neighbor child and I followed his slow pace and I still remember all our laughing.

I am totally enjoying the !!!! exciting life stories. I hope Kate drops by here to read. She will find humor, intelligence, kindness, and common sense conditioner. She needs a huge dose of each of those...

Pity Party, all marathons are 26.2 miles and 1/2 marathons are 13.1 miles. According to Kate, she's already run a 1/2 on her own. Apparently she is not following any kind of training regiment, which is not too smart. For instance, believe it or not, the week before your run, you hardly run at all, which is counter to what you've been doing in training. For instance, you might run 2 miles one day, 3 miles another and then 1 (I'm guessing right now, can't remember). All organized events are the same distance. There's big money in running. Winners receive thousands of dollars! You should see those winners too! I was doing a relay for charity and was bused to a relay point and they announced the leaders were coming through. They have police escorts to keep everything open. I looked at my watch and thought, "You have got to be kidding me. They're run 19 miles in two hours??" Sure enough, FOOM, there they went. They make it look so effortless, but they're going by so fast you can barely get a clap in before they're gone. It's amazing.

They were Aussie Paps who happened to be in the airport waiting for an Aussie celeb, and I guess they both noticed each others cameras and Kate took pics with one and she claimed he was her fan, but we tracked him down and he was a pap and didnt know who the heck she was...

Administrator said... Why only kindergartners get dressed up?? One of the best parts of Halloween at my school growing up was everyone really getting into it and dressing up. And as I recall, Halloween is pretty big in the Northeast, it was in PA.

*******************

Seems it's not just a PA (or Gosselin's school-specific) thing, Admin. We just relocated to NoVa, and I was disappointed when my daughter's school sent home notice that the kids were not to wear their costumes to school on Halloween. She's in KDG, but the rule applies to ALL grades. Seems Fairfax County frowns upon the notion of costumes in school. They did hold a "Fall Festival" one weeknight before the holiday, during which everyone was welcomed to dress up. But, as you intimated, it's just not the same. I grew up in the NE, and Halloween was one of the most fun days of the school year. That said, by the time I was a senior in High School, the administrators had nixed the traditional huge Christmas tree and Menorah in the school's entry-way. And we were strictly instructed to refer to the season as "the holidays" and not "Christmas." Seems that in the interest of pleasing everyone, the fun of most holidays has just been sucked dry. That said, nobody can suck the fun more completely out of any holiday than Kate.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 121

Josie, I'm confused. Shame on us Americans for having a little fun one night out of the year???

Your manipulative $2.5 billion sounds so scary except when you actually do the math, turns out? It's just about $8 bucks per American. Once a freaking year, Americans spent EIGHT BUCKS on Halloween. Or, the cost of two cups of Starbucks coffee WOW. Not.

I don't think it does anyone any good to not have any fun in your life just because some children are poor in Africa. Just like it does no good not to eat every last bit of food on your plate because some people are starving.

Many people who celebrate Halloween also donate a tremendous amount of time, energy and money to charity. It doesn't have to be on or the other.

By that logic we should all just sit around and be depressed and never celebrate anything because there are needy people in the world. No thanks.
And we know full well that Kate wasn't skipping Halloween just to save needy kids. Gimme a break.

Its why I got my oak tree cut down even though the tree surgeon told me it would be 10 yrs before it decayed enough for a hurricane to pull it down on my house.
I didnt care! I wanted piece of mind.

Kate is constantly chasing EXCITEMENT and DRAMA...

I just took my dogs out at 6:30 to wee wee, and i smelled that crisp fall night air (Admin will know that in Pa) and as she said its EVEN the cool fall air that adds to the Halloween experience, the air, the moon, the crunchy leaves...EVERYTHING! My son stopped going this year and I was very sad. I only have one kid and thats not by choice thats by just not finding a great guy in time before the bio clock stopped ticking, and So all the stuff that I LOVE and wanted to experience with my kids (I wanted 4) is over as mine gets older.

Kate really is a ****!

I see the person who wrote that is only 18. She'll mature a little as the years go by I hope. She will learn guilt tripping people and manipulating people into helping out Africa doesn't usually work and if anything makes them even less likely to want to give your passion the time of day. I would love to hear about her mission work in Africa, but do not want to hear about how Americans should be ashamed for spending 8 bucks a year on a holiday.

Preesi, some people get off on excitement not knowing what is around the corner next.

Others like you and me prefer planning and knowing what's going to happen and not having anything al that exciting or unexpected fall in our laps.

That's the difference between Kate and us. She thinks everyone would want her lifestyle. It simply isn't true.

I want to know what job I'm going to have tomorrow and my career, I want to know that where I live is where I'll probably be able to stay forever, I want to decide where I go on vacation not a corporation. I don't want to be on TV, I don't want some makeup artist dressing me as a zombi, I don't want to take off for NYC every other weekend!

while I understand the perspective of that young kid (cuz 18 is still a kid), I disagree. First of all, Africa is a continent, not a country, and she didn't state where in Africa she is writing from. Not all of Africa is destitute and poverty-stricken. Egypt has wealth, much of South Africa has wealth. Why shame on America?? Why not shame on those countries- IN Africa- that can help out their own? I have been deployed and have seen myself, firsthand, some very deplorable conditions around the world. I have missed more holidays than I care to count. I now have an appreciation for my homeland and all of our culture- especially holidays, than I ever did prior to my military days. We should never be ashamed of our culture and celebrating our holidays. Yes it is sad children around the world are starving, but how is depriving our own children a night of festivities and candy going to help? Start a charity and raise money, and awareness, but don't shame America and our celebrations and traditions.

What a great teaching experience for kids with Halloween among all the other things you can teach: We are so lucky to have the freedom to have such a nice and fun holiday, what can we do to try to give other kids those same freedoms to do fun things??? That leads to getting kids involved with soup kitchens, charities, etc. But telling a kid to be ashamed of Halloween and to feel guilty we have it so kid is just going to make kids resentful and not want to help out others.

I have to keep telling myself, it's a young kid it's a young kid.

Her point assumes that anyone who has fun on Halloween isn't thinking about Africa or doesn't do things for Africa or ANYONE in need.

Whereupon on Twitter Kate will blame this on the fact that she didn't get a good night sleep, she was exhausted, she was stressed or any other number of things. She will declare that she is determined to do better next year and will start training right away. The thing is...there isn't going to be a next time. Halloweenie said... That said, nobody can suck the fun more completely out of any holiday than Kate.

#################################

I think I’ve found the perfect way for Kate to cling to her reality TV “career”: A brand new reality show in which Kate does what she does best: Suck the life out of other people’s joy. She’s had so much practice ruining just about every major holiday for her kids (fake Christmas, fake birthdays, fake Easter, fake Halloween, no Halloween, and the list goes on….), that Kate is no doubt the most qualified “celebrity” to host a show in which the goal is to completely deflate and demoralize its victims.

The title of the show: BUZZKILL

Premise: The show will chronicle Kate as she travels across the country dashing hopes, crushing dreams, and otherwise demoralizing average citizens innocently engaged in their personal celebratory milestones and traditions. Some episode ideas include: (1) Kate crashing a wedding during which she tells the bride that not only does her gown make her look fat, but that her cross-dressing new husband was secretly seen trying on said gown, and actually looked a lot better in it. (2) Kate barges in on a young teen’s bar mitzvah, announcing mid-meal that she has secretly stuffed the kosher beef with cheddar cheese. (3) Kate descends upon a preschooler’s birthday party, and just as the child is about to blow out his candles, whispers into his ear, “You’re not *really* four years old. You’re really a forty-five-year-old midget, but your parents are afraid to tell you.”

Oh, the possibilities are endless.

Oh yeah I know One Great hour of Sharing. My church growing up always did that. I think a great approach is instead of discouraging people from doing fun American activities like Halloween with guilt trips, just tie the fun in with still remembering the less fortunate. If anything you can use them to your advantage!

We do two things during the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl. We do a "Souper Bowl" where we collect can goods for local homeless outreach programs. And then the youth group does a sub sandwich sale on the afternoon of the Superbowl. They make the subs and sell them for five bucks a pop and sell a ton because people love getting subs for Superbowl parties. They put the money in their mission trips fund. I definitely prefer this approach rather than guilt trips.

Oh dear........ here's one I just need to answer, and I'll make it short because I'm pretty angry.

Has anyone, in particular the young 18 y/o girl in Africa, ever taken the time to total up the billions of dollars in aid that the US ships off to countries around the world?!

If the 18 y/o will post what country she is in I will look up the stats about the amount of aid flowing from the US to that country. She will be surprised.

What many young idealistic volunteers abroad fail to realize is that many of the less fortunate countries have governments that receive US aid dollars and those dollars mysteriously fail to trickle down to the people.

Those governments 'allow' civil wars which decimate populations and keep people living at or below a poverty level unheard of in the US.

Some countries have dictators who keep aid dollars for themselves and use the money as instruments of power and manipulation.

I am not minimizing conditions in poor African countries. I have lived all around the world, growing up in the Air Force, and have seen first hand the deplorable conditions in some, many places.

There is poverty all around the globe, and yes, here in the US too.

But to trivialize a holiday here when the US spends billions of OUR tax dollars overseas is beyond understanding when there is no recognition of US aid.

I recognize the girl is only 18. Still very impressionable. And living where she is, she might have to mentally see things as she does in order to cope.

But there is ALWAYS a bigger picture. And it is extremely important to understand facts before spouting criticism.

Saying what she has, and getting these responses is simply a life learning experience.

Hopefully, she will take some time to understand how the US is going broke for many reasons, and one of them is supporting countries outside the US with governments who fail to use US aid appropriately.

Having said all that, I must give equal time to the fury I feel about someone like Kim Kardashian spending a reported $10 million dollars for her wedding... In my opinion, that is absolutely obscene. And the recent divorce anouncement after 72 days leads me to believe this was all done for publicity, her pocketbook and her 'career'.

Geez louise, think of all the inner city lunch programs, inner city well baby clinics, etc she could have funded....

I do not believe in wealth redistribution. I worked hard for what I have and I share when I can. I have no guilt, even with buying candy when our son was young.

I DO believe in responsible spending and living within your means. kart is a sad example of someone who is clueless about fiscal responsibility. The damage she is doing to her kids in pretty much immeasurable at this point.

Hot button. Rant over.

18 y/o volunteer, please share with us which country you are in and I will get you some stats on US aid dollars to your country.

I may have to lay low for a few days. This just chaps my ass.....

On one hand I understand her frustration. But there are sooooo many other factors that she didn't mention and may not be aware of. Other very complicated, political and moral issues.

It is not simply a matter of 'don't spend money on a holiday, and send the money here instead'.

Wait a minute..... said... 153

Going on record as admitting I didn't read all of the comments on this post (which I usually do before commenting), but enough to get the "theme."

I have a hard time getting upset for the Gosselin sextuplets for not getting to go trick or treating. "Social skills" aside, trick or treating can also be construed as begging, soliciting, bothering strangers at their homes, etc., and there are people who are not comfortable with it for those reasons. And while I think the African 18 yo comment may be over the top, and I don't think that people should feel guilty for participating in trick or treating - she does have a point in that Americans do tend to go overboard as a society on holiday expenses.

My children do trick or treat (although we prefer our town's merchant t or t-ing option during the day), they have costumes (sometimes planned ahead of time, sometimes thrown together at the last moment), and we sometimes do other Halloween/fall activities (parties, corn mazes, pumpkin patches, etc.) However, they would not be deprived if they didn't specifically go trick or treating one year - especially when there was an alternate fun activity. They certainly wouldn't have poor social skills just because they didn't go. And neither were/do the sextuplets.

There are many children who do not celebrate Halloween or do not trick or treat for a multitude of reasons. (religious, cost, not comfortable with the "begging" aspect, etc.) I doubt that any of you would question the parenting of those parents....and you especially wouldn't say that "those children aren't developing social skills." I can think of about 100 other ways that are better for social skill development than trick or treating. Feel sorry for the Gosselin children, but definitely not for this reason - it's just another "pick at Kate" thing in my opinion.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 154

Bothering strangers in their homes? Wow, cranky strangers! Last I checked if you don't want cute little kids coming to your home just one day out of 365 days and asking for just one little treat, you can turn your porch light off. We were taught that if the porch light is off, that is a signal that for whatever their reason they are choosing not to participate. No problem, just move on to the next house.

Me? I turn on all the lights and put a sign in creepy lettering on the door "candy here!!" I don't want any kid worried if a grouch is gonna open the door on them.

Martha Stewart also, according to her daughter, couldn't be bothered with Halloween. Even though she did Halloween specials! Sounds eerily familiar. Kate goes on The View and does the Halloween special but doesn't do Halloween with her own kids. Unbelievable.

Things That Go Bump In The Night said... 155

Feel sorry for the Gosselin children, but definitely not for this reason - it's just another "pick at Kate" thing in my opinion.

------------------

You're missing the point. Kate says that everything she does is for the kids. Kate dresses up for Halloween and parties in NYC. The kids stay at home and miss trick or treating BECAUSE it's ALL ABOUT HER, not about the kids. She could have been home to take those kids out, or arranged for someone to do so. Instead, she stayed over in New York City and as an AFTER THOUGHT, arranged a candy hunt in the basement. That is pathetic.

Wait a minute..... said... 156

Administrator said... Some families don't observe Halloween. The difference is it's not because mom decided to go on the View instead.

______________________________

Why is Kate being held to a different standard than any other mom who is out of town on business during Halloween? Just because you don't see her "business" as worthwhile? She was actually invited by ABC to be on the show, and it's not really anyone elses business whether or not that "business" is justifiable to spend the day away from her kids. And despite what her reasons were, her children were still no more harmed by missing trick or treating than the children of parents with "justifiable" reasons for not trick or treating.

prairielivin said... I don't watch the View that often, but did Elizabeth and Sherri manage to make sure their kids went trick or treating even though they had to work and deal with weather, etc?

___________________________

I don't believe that Sherri Shephard celebrates Halloween because of her religious beliefs. However, if she and Elisabeth did do trick or treating with their children, it was because they live AND work in NYC. They weren't out of town during the holiday - it should have been no different for them than any other working parent in the city.

Wait a minute.... said... 157

I'm not missing the point. That Kate is selfish and thinks only of herself is completely separate from "her kids are missing out on fun and social skills if they don't trick or treat". I don't have a problem with someone saying "wow, Kate only thinks of herself, I feel sorry for those kids." What I have a problem with is suggesting that they are deprived because they don't trick or treat.

Admin - I didn't say that *I* feel that way. But really - not everyone does relish the idea of children coming to their door asking for candy, and it doesn't necessarily mean that they're a Grainchy old fart. And you just said it yourself - yes, people have the right to turn out their lights and not participate, but if they do - which they may do because they don't want to be bothered - they are "cranky." And not everyone is comfortable with their kids doing it, because they respect the right of people to feel that way.

I'm just saying that there are many reasons to not trick or treat and we shouldn't feel sorry for the Gosselins for THAT reaons. You all have been talking about this for about a week now - will she take them? Won't she? Oh she didn't! Oh no she didn't! Those poor, poor kids!!! And now "oh those poor kids who didn't get the chance to develop social skills!"

Kate could have arranged for her kids to have alternate (as you called it) fun while she was away. She did not have to accept that gig, and as someone else pointed out, she could have asked for a later date. Why did she let the older girls go, and then forget about the little ones?

I think if kids had their choice, it would be to go trick to treating. All kids, not just the G8. What kid doesn't want free candy?? So I actually do have a problem with parents who prevent their kids from going out that night. That holiday has a long history in the US, goes back well over a hundred years, so it's part of our culture. And again, kids get candy (I emphasize because when kids get to have a large amount of free candy? Such a rare treat. I think the Jehova's Witnesses are the only group that I give a pass to, because they don't celebrate any holiday.
The point about Kate is she didn't think of her kids. That is obvious from her post about Tuesday morning and the candy buying.

We even let what's his face who was trying to get a date with Kate awhile back post here, who was clearly a sheeple. Why, because he was one of the few people to post his opinions about Kate without being a total snot about it. He sort of faded away himself but most people were quite respectful back to him. If you start out not immediately accusing people of whatever is your fancy, you'd be surprised how respectful folks can be here. This is a good group.

I posted an opinion very agains the pack last week myself. People took me to task. It happens, it's fine! There is a difference between spirited debate and the pack. Some people though seem to think strong opinions are some kind of pack thing. I actually don't see it that way, but I understand it.

butterly - so other religious groups who don't celebrate Halloween don't get a pass? Wow.

prairelivin - you are totally missing my point. I did not say that Kate didn't do trick or treating because she objected to it, that it was begging, etc. I said that many people don't do trick or treating because of those reasons, and their kids are not deprived - and nobody (well, except butterfly apparently) says that they are.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 166

That Kate is selfish and thinks only of herself is completely separate from "her kids are missing out on fun and social skills if they don't trick or treat". I

&&&&&&&&&&

What was said is they missed out on one opportunity to participate in a social skills activity. Other parents who don't celebrate Halloween nonetheless give their kids many other great social opportunities to make up for it. I'm not seeing that from Kate. I'm seeing a woman who travels, goes on the View, tweets, runs and boinks her bodyguard.

The difference here is, it was one of many in a long line of Kate neglecting the kids. She acts like hiding treats (huh? It's not Easter) the next day makes up for it--the point is, it may make up for the candy but not for everything else they missed. That was part of the point of this post, to rebut her assertion SEE i made a great Halloween the next day! To point out--hold on there is more to Halloween than peanut butter cups.

Had this been the first time in the world Kate ever left the kids when they had something important to a kid to do, I doubt we would have siad a word. Kind of like how we didn't say anything the first THREE TICKETS of Kate's. We're actually quite patient and fair about her. This blog didn't even come about until about four years into the show and I had watched it the whole time. I gave her four years to change my mind, she just solidified my opinion of her. Actually, if Kate never left these kids behind, I doubt there would be so much controversy over her, and this blog might not even exist.

. I said that many people don't do trick or treating because of those reasons, and their kids are not deprived - and nobody (well, except butterfly apparently) says that they are.

Because their parents make up for it in other ways. Kate doesn't. Kate is selfish day after day after day after day after day after day....you get the point.

I've been called a sheeple on more than one occasion. Just a couple of days ago, in fact.

I do think you are picking at Kate. That's my opinion. And I am being critical of your *opinions*, not of you. Whereas a couple of days ago I was called a moron and dumb, and just now I got a snotty "nice try" from one poster and a snotty reply about people who don't participate in Halloween being "cranky" from you - followed by what *you* do (with the sign announcing that you have candy).

Preesi, who were the guys in Australia with the cameras who Kate was stroking out over when they were with Mr. Kiwi Bird House Man?
---------------
They were Aussie Paps who happened to be in the airport waiting for an Aussie celeb, and I guess they both noticed each others cameras and Kate took pics with one and she claimed he was her fan, but we tracked him down and he was a pap and didnt know who the heck she was...

This isn't correct. The guys by Mr. Kiwi Bird House Man were paps that were outside the birdhouse where she brilliantly made a scene with her "swearing, swearing" comment as she herded her kids into the building.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 170

Wait a Minute, saying people are just picking on Kate is personal, in my opinion. I def take it that way. That has nothing to do with the opinion and everything to do with the state of mind of the person having it--see the difference to me. Like what if I said you just want to pick on us. That is all about you and not your opinion.

I was being somewhat facetious about people not answering the door being cranky, but come on, some are, admit it. Nonetheless, I didn't call you cranky. I merely pointed out it's not a problem to just skip over people who don't want to answer their door. Although I do tend to think that if you have no moral objection to Halloween other than you don't want cute little kids coming to your door just one night out of the year, maybe you might want to loosen up a bit. But, I'm not losing sleep over these folks who are so few and far between--like I said, if that's your choice fine just turn off your light.

I don't agree that anyone should just automatically be called a sheeple. I see that occasionally here, but not often. I also ask you to just move on if they do as I would rather take a few rogue comments like that than go back to moderation. It is a lot of work to go through each comment and delete for small indiscretions.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 171

I also do have to disagree with butter as to religious groups passing on Halloween. If it's truly for a religious reason and you are not hurting anyone by not participating, I don't think it's anyone's right to question it. There are many of us who make choices based on religion who wouldn't want to be looked down on it for. I did know a few families who don't do Halloween including some second cousins, but I would never say any of them are bad parents. They do not deprive their kids of lots of other opportunities to have fun. They do other holidays extra big to make up for it.

Her fault alone said... 172

Hmmmmmmmmm....

Maybe you have a point... but she makes it so easy to pick on her!

She does absolutely nothing right. She is a horrible mother, a narcissist, rude, a greedy grifter.

And she insisted on doing it all out in the open, on TV. She invited comments. She loves comments. She lives for comments.

She has brought all this criticism on herself. Her fault. No one elses.

All she needs to do to have people quit 'picking on her' is to fade away into obscurity, learn how to take care of her children in a nurturing way and get a job that doesn't exploit her kids.

Ball is in her court.

Anonymous said... 173

Wait a minute,
I NEVER said kids were deprived, you misread my post. I said the only group I give a pass to is Jehova's Witness. The groups who claim religious reasons were celebrating Halloween 30 years ago, 50 years ago, and even 100 years ago. This night has a long tradition in our country. The Fall Festivals are a relatively new phenomena and as Admin mentioned, an alternative for the children who don't go (and I still stick to my opinion that given a choice, those kids would go)...the younger Gosselin's weren't provided an alternative, and it would have very easy for Kate to do.
I sometimes think people pick apart Kate, too, but that is their opinion of what they disagree with about Kate. I, for example, think she gets picked on way too much for her running and we should encourage her- she is after all exercising, but most people don't agree and I just skip past those posts. Every one can have their views.

Well said butterfly. And while i think Kate's outfits are kind of embarrassing she dresses no different than a lot of really GOOD mothers out here....I hardly ever participate in any of the constant snark on her clothes.

I don't care if others want to talk about it--Oh well, scroll on past!

Amy I don't respond to every comment by a long shot. When I'm around like now sometimes I do. I don't even always see all of them, during the day when I work Mary Ann usually edits.

Right now it's easy to delete. But earlier this week no way was that possible, I think I worked a 70 hour week this week but unlike Kate I don't have a need to talk about that hourly. Plus? I don't really want to delete comments for small indiscretions. I don't want that to be this kind of blog where people feel like any little misstep gets you deleted. I ask people to please do their best to follow the rules and if someone isn't, just scroll on past. Or, send me an email if it's egregious.

And just why is Kate choosing to run in this marathon in Las Vegas? What, there are not any marathons she could run in PA earlier, such as in the summer, spring or early autumn? I find it rather odd she would chose to run in a marathon in another state. Is it for something special like cancer or something I missed?

Either way I figure she might be gone at least a week maybe. That is cutting it maybe a bit close to when kids usually get off winter break near beginning of December. Or it might depend on where you live I guess.

I think it is a poor choice to do this. I haven't ever heard of Kate running in any local marathons. No, this must have to be something big. Like her one-time charity drive, not-local but in another state. Just begs the question, why?

We watched Soul Surfer tonight, highly recommend it. If you want to watch a true story about someone actually worth admiring. Someone who is actually really struggled? Bethany Hamilton is your girl. She lost her arm to a shark at 13. It's overtly religious so if that bothers you you might not like, but I didn't think it was pushy or preachy. I wish the teen fans would look up to someone like her instead. I think she's about 19 now.

Spoiler alert!!! I loved the part where she had a great run on the wave in competition, but turned out that she caught the wave after the time was up and it didn't count. Her Dad started throwing a fit, what it has to count she was in before the buzzer I swear! Bethany just looks at him with a smile and says Dad? It DID count.

So awesome.

At least Kart didn't have her beloved camera crew at the house dressing the kids up for Halloween and taking them trick or treating while she was partying in NYC.

TotallyDisgusted said... 180

Halloween was just another example of how thoughtless she is. The tups had to be disappointed. Going to school in the days leading up to Halloween and listening to their classmates talk excitedly about going trick or treating and what costumes they were going to wear. All that mattered was she got to go and be with her "friends" in NYC. It would have been really easy for her to call Jon and ask him to take the kids. I bet he would have jumped at the chance. They shouldn't have to miss out on things just because of her selfish needs.

And when anyone else in the family flies, I have know their flight numbers so I can watch the flight progress at flightaware.com!

==============

Sister?

Flightaware is the best. I have it bookmarked. In fact, I used it this afternoon! I track them from take-off to landing. I feel better if I can watch that little plane making its way across the map. Once I "lost" the flight somewhere over Newfoundland until it magically appeared back on the tracker. I had chewed off all of my fingernails, checking on internet news to see if a plane had been the victim of alien abduction. At least it wasn't over the Bermuda Triangle...

You really gotta wonder how she got by with letting the twins go but not the tups. It's not like the tups are 2 and wouldn't know the difference.

Neighborhood,

OMG, I am laughing so hard - we must have been twins separated at birth and adopted out...

You'll notice, of course, that neither of us can say the "c" word?!

"flight lands safely"
"encounters problems"
"alien abduction"
"bermuda triangle"

Tooo funny - two long lost superstitious sisters separated at birth.......

Well, all I've got to say is: Mind Power rocks!!!!

Oh, here's another thought - I heard somewhere that your prayers won't work if you are just praying 'let me live' - you have to pray for all the other passengers then you have a chance to keep the plane up.

I'm not a religious person but I have made some requests during turbulance that each one of the other passengers makes it home safely and that the pilots will be able to work their flights the next day.

Why jinx things with a selfish request, right? :-)

LOL

Regarding the tups missing Halloween - I would never expect Kate to turn down being on TV - let's face it - it's narcissist Kate. But what makes me so angry is that she could have arranged for the kids to go trick or treating with their dad, or friends, or somebody. What a selfish, uncaring bitch she is.

mamasan said... 186

In my area trick or treat is handled thusly, if your outside light is on stop for a treat. If no light continue to the next house. My children are grown and live in various parts of the country. I still dress up as cookie monster to answer the door. A fond memory was the Halloween when a 5-year old w/his sister, accompanied by Mother, asked, ". . . trick or treat?" I replied I have a treat if you show me a trick. The youngster promptly did a little tap dance. Needless to say, we all clapped in delight.

May I just say,in my opinion, the G kids were deprived of TWO social opportunities:
1.They didn't get to go trick or treat with other kdis
2.They were left out of all discussion the day before and the day after, at school. The kids talked about goung t&t and what were the G kids supposed to say? Mommy made a candy hunt the day after Holloween? yeah, that wasn't going to draw mockery...so basically, they probably just sat by themselves, listening quietly to the cool stories. As if it wasn't bad enough that their lives are so much different than their peers'

Nevermind that it would have been one thing if the 8 stayed home but can you imagine how cruel it was for the kids to wave bye bye to their sisters who got to go?

This is the last missed social opportunity out of many.Shall we remember their 6th b-day which was spent on a stranded island with no kids at all? What about being taken away from all their family members and not being given to opportunity to socially interact with relatives?

The Baltimore Marathon was just 2 or 3 weeks ago - that would have been a close location for a first try. They also had half marathon and relay team options.

Admin & In the Neighborhood: I am in Maryland. I just went out to get the morning paper off the driveway (5:40am)...we had frost overnight, stars bright and clear overhead, and someone had a wood burning fireplace going. Talk about best smelling air...

Why does Kate have to be there for her kids to go trick-or-treating? Obviously, someone else was looking after them. That other person could have taken them around. They had to do something that night after all. It's not as if when mom's out of town, you turn the kids off and stick them in the closet til she gets back.

At the very least they could have dressed up at home and had fun handing out candies to other kids. That side of Halloween has always been just as important to my daughter as the trick-or-treating. Talk about lessons Halloween teaches us--my kid's very aware that if nobody decorates and nobody hands out candies then it won't be a good Halloween for anybody, and that we're responsible for doing our bit. Unfortunately, Kate obviously hasn't learned that lesson yet.

My hope is that someone in the Australian press cracks the code as to Kate and Steve's relationship. Let's face it .... they won't be champeroned with camera crew, kids and nannies. I sometimes wonder if TLC was anxious to drop her not only because of the ratings but because it would be disasterious for the squeaky clean image of super mom boinking the married bodyguard .

barbee said... 192

comments made about things she says or does are NOT picking on her, just CALLING her on constantly lying about what she says or does when there are PICTURES with the articles contradicting whatever lie she is telling. We are commenting on her blatant stupidity. Literally (AND figuratively as she is always seen with her mouth flapping open), if she would learn to keep her mouth shut she wouldn't get half the flack. When you continually give people things they can call you on, they are usually more than happy to oblige you.

cathy518 said... 193

As I posted before on another thread, this is just heartbreaking for the tups. Trick-or-treating is one of those special childhood memories for which there is no substitute. I still remember when I had the flu on Halloween when I was young and my brother's and sister went around with my trick-or-treat bag in my absence. Although I still got the candy, I missed out on Halloween and so wished I could have made it up when I was well again.
Kate did not have the tups miss out on Halloween for religious reasons. If that was the case, they would not have gone last year when TLC took care of the details. They did not miss out because of the snow, if that was the case school would have been closed because of road conditions and by Halloween, most of the snow had melted in the East. The tups missed out because Kate would not go to the trouble of driving to Party City and buying costumes for them and even arranging for them to trick-or-treat with the nanny or Jon if she was not there. There is no excuse for them missing out on this, it was cruel. These children are going to explode one day from this ongoing neglect and Kate will not be able to manage their behavior then. They are growing up without any reliable nurturing and support at home, just all the commercial opportunities that Kate can muster up for them. I am very angry for those kids and shame on those great ladies of the view for not calling her out on this too. Of course a real mother would have high-tailed it back to Penn. after the View to be there to take her children trick-or-treating, how could she just stay in New York to party knowing her kids were missing out on this at home?

mel said... 194

I don't care whether they go t/t or not, but it seems cruel to let some siblings go but not others. Especially in light of the fact that they ALL got to go last year.

Kate can run a marathon, it is not that big of a deal if you are a runner. It just takes training time. But there is a difference in completing a marathon or really running for a good time. If she runs to finish, she will finish about 5 hours, and we will hear for weeks how wonderful she is. This is based on her 13 mile run time. This is just a little faster than a fast walk. Good luck Kate, and please let us know you are not the only person to run a marathon ever.

Exactly. She's a complete hypocrite, and her children are not only supporting her, but paying the price for her hypocrisy in lots of other ways as well.

Kate has only herself, and her all-consuming dishonesty, to blame for this.

Post from MaryAnn --

Good morning, everyone.

Two world's collide for me. It is an !!! moment. I follow this blog rather faithfully. Today, I am reading and flightaware.com is mentioned 3X. Big smile. My son and two of his friends started that web site as a "hobby" while they were taking flying lessons. Several years later they are a major players in flight tracking. Their main office is in Houston, TX. It is a great site. They get around 3,000,000 hits a day.

When my son was helping me program my new Mac, he made fun of me when I bookmarked 2 Gosselin blog sites! I emailed him this morning to let him know that he got a plug on this site.

I am quite proud of my son! (appropriate !) His bio is on the FlightAware home page. Admin, can I reveal his name?

Thanks all for the big grin I have on my face. Now, back to Kate stuff....

If the tups have school friends, you would think she could have arranged for them to go along with their friends trick or treating. Because Kate lumps them together as a 6 PACK, I don't think it would occur to her to have the nanny drop them off at friends' houses for the evening. Once agin, she shows her true selfishness.
