Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to email us regarding [Kate Gosselin]. I can understand your/their concern, but I would like to make a few things very clear.
First, Kate was NOT paid or compensated in any way for the photo. Kate is a supporter of the Red Cross on her own and this is her way of showing her support. It is not the choice I would have made, however, we had nothing to do with the pose or the choice she made. She is also in NO way a spokesperson for us.
We have since asked her to choose a different photo to post on her website and are awaiting her response.
Kate is one of dozens of local and national celebrities with Philadelphia area ties who have agreed to don a Red Cross blanket to show their support. Among the others are Bill Cosby and Kevin Bacon.
All I can ask is that you and your family to continue to support the Red Cross because of the wonderful work we do and the hundreds of thousands of people we help every year recover from what is often the worst moment of their lives, not because Kate Gosselin or any other celebrity showed their support for us.
Thanks for your time and consideration. Have a great day.

What do the sheeple not understand about that? Certainly their reading comprehension isn't that bad...or is it? Any elementary school kid would understand it.
Wow. Can't believe how this has all blown up. At least the sheeple are donating to the Red Cross. Too bad Kate is taking credit for it. She is something else, that one. Boy oh boy, I wish she would just go away. Now she is in Chicago on her way to Oz. Freakin' unbelievable. Wonder if she and Steve are flying Business class out there? Hope some pax comment on that!

When your fans and tweeties are tweens and teens, this is what you get - embarrassing, isn't it (or it should be)? Add the older sheeple to the mix and you begin to understand their mentality and thinking processes - or lack thereof, and why and how they blindly believe and follow everything that comes out of the Kate Gosselin camp.
God, that kid's teacher isn't going to be happy. That's an AWFUL font!
Post from MaryAnn --
Does anyone else think that Kate will step off her plane in Australia and promptly check the internet to see if she is still the center of the Red Cross controversy?
She won't remove that photo from her blog site. This kind of attention is what she breathes for.
I don't understand how someone with so few talents and skills can now manage to inconvenience an organization as well-established as the Red Cross. I continue to shake my head in disbelief.
Her lack of respect for a charity like the Red Cross is disturbing and disgusting. They asked her to do a simple little thing. She instead ignores them and keeps on trucking on.
The life lessons she is teaching her children are horrifying at best.
I am a bit sad for the well meaning folks who have been attacked by sheeple over this. Let's remember this: Someone posted the most recent stats for her website and it is getting about 60 hits a day. 60. A few of those are non-fans, and a few of those are super-sheeple who are clicking on it several times a day. But it is 60, and half of those are the kind of women who are 'engaged' to some incarcerated serial killer somewhere who they will never even meet. They are a sad little bunch, even the middle-schoolers, who are all very lonely and are angry at the world for their dysfunctional situations. They admire Kate for turning her uterus and her mental illness (the two things that most of the sheeple actually have) into a 'career', and they wish to heavens they would have thought of it first.
I know they can be harmful to good people, like Admin, because they have an internet connection and an excess of time on their hands. All in all they noisy but insignificant.
These are the folks who make stuff up as they go along and when Kate 'sets the record straight' they lovingly accuse HER of lying because 'she is so kind and is just trying to protect' someone. They say KATE herself lies if their fantasies dont match reality, a word they dont actually comprehend anyway.
Please, you guys, you all are good people from what I can tell and I hate to see you putting any energy into what a sheeple does or doesnt believe. As for Red Cross Dave, well he is earning points in the Big Book In The Sky for all of this.
I too, like Sam, stopped donating CASH to the Red Cross and United Way years ago when it was revealed how much went to overhead. I donate to smaller, individual non-profits that I know and trust and to the Salvation Army.
as far as red cross having only $0.39 per dollar go to the charity. i think that is good for a nonprofit organization if i am correct. some have as low a $0.05 per dollar. they do have overhead costs associated with their work so i can see that being the result.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Both rates are TERRIBLE for nonprofits. When I donate, I expect that the MAJORITY of my donation will go to those in NEED, NOT "overhead".
My dollars don't need to be spend on fat executive salaries or bonuses. Supporting a bloated bureaucracy is NOT where I want to spend my donation dollars.
charitynavigator.org is a great site for evaluating and comparing charities. They say that
"the most efficient charities spend at least 75% of their budget on their programs and services and less than 25% on fundraising and administrative fees."
Even those fundraising and administrative costs are high in my estimation, but that's a good place to start.
39 cents out of every dollar is not even 40 per cent going to programs, which is ridiculous. That means that over 60 per cent is going to non-relief costs.
Many charities, especially the huge, bloated ones, use their budgets primarily to sustain themselves. It's worth taking a close look before you donate anywhere.

Her "Security Team" is looking into the matter, meaning Steve will decide what to do as soon as gets done organizing Kate's purse and wiping her butt for her.
ATTN KATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanksgiving is in 14 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is two weeks!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a national day of... wait for it, Kate,... Giving Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the day with turkey and cranberry sauce!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is also the day with Mr. Pilgrim Man!!!!!!!!!!! Your children will be off school that day!!!!!!!!!!!!! They will likely be off school the NEXT day too!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 14 days Kate!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know, what's gotten lost in this ridiculous bruhaha is something very important in the Red Cross email. It's this sentence (begin quote):
All I can ask is that you and your family to continue to support the Red Cross because of the wonderful work we do and the hundreds of thousands of people we help every year recover from what is often the worst moment of their lives, not because Kate Gosselin or any other celebrity showed their support for us.
(End quote.)
So why isn't Red Cross selling the services they provide instead of selling celebrity endorsements? Or worse, "celebrity" connections that the chapter did not even bother to check out?
This whole mess could have been avoided if the Red Cross stuck to business and sold what they do, instead of looking for "endorsements".
Personally, I won't donate to ANY charity that pays a "celebrity" to front for them, nor one that uses "celebrity" campaigns to get attention.
There are tons of small, grassroots charities that do a quiet, excellent job of meeting local needs without the "glitz" of these expensive, distracting campaigns.
Contacting a local "celebrity" like Kate Gosselin without doing ANY checking to see who she was, or how polarizing? Just plain stupid and lazy. And, as it turns out, costly. I call that a major waste of resources, all around.
The more I think about this RC photo debacle, the more I can understand and not be surprised that Kate did this.
Remember when Kate was on DWTS? Carrie Ann Inaba was on the Joy Behar show and she was asked about Kate and Carry Ann said that she had NEVER met anyone that was no unaware of herself.
There you have it.
Who in their right mind would be asked to be one of the faces of the RC, an agency that aids* victims of disaster* and think, "hey, I'll do my best sex kitten pose!!"?
This was so wildly inappropriate that most people can not wrap their minds around a grown woman who poses in a RC blanket and what looks to be almost nothing else.
The level of disrespect is astounding and I truly think it's despicable that Kate has not removed it when asked directly to do it by the RC.
No way in hell she hasn't been informed about this, No way.

We, too, Dwindle. Exactly what we do. Along with those huge overhead costs comes a focus on PR, not relief, and the situation just perpetuates itself. Plenty of organizations manage to get the work done without the bloat. That's where we put our donation dollars.

What Kate fails to understand is that people generally don't like people who like to fly in the face of authority and organizations and other entities. People like to see people get along and comply with each other's requests and so on.
I think that aside from a few rabid fans, Kate would get far more goodwill if she had simply said from the beginning you know what I made a mistake, I didn't think it through enough, and I took it down.
This is what good people do when there is a PR crisis and they don't have a need to "win" or tell everyone "F.U."
I made a mistake. I'm sorry. I'm doing A, B and C to fix it. I respect the decision of "Insert entity here, like the Red Cross." I support them and ask that you continue to do so as well.
I do have to say the Red Cross has gotten a little too celebrity obsessed for my taste. Years ago, our chapter once screened a film from the Red Cross made by a celeb cabinet member, as part of a charity benefit. If I recall back then the cabinet only had a few members. Now I look at the web page and it's covered with pretty much every squeaky clean celeb you could find. There were dozens!
And this latest blanket campaign, notwithstanding Kate, I still found to be insensitive no matter how nice the celeb is. Celebs wrapped in blankets meant for victims? Bad taste.
I looked at some Red Cross salaries online. They weren't as inflated as I expected, but still, uncomfortable to see. The CEO makes more than a half million a year. However, people self reporting their salaries were making figures in a range that seemed much more reasonable to me: 35, 30, 50 for the lowest-paid jobs. Managerial jobs in the 60s, 70s. I don't find that all that outrageous. They have to pay people fairly or they wouldn't be able to do all they do. If they stripped themselves down, they wouldn't be as available to respond within minutes/hours to disasters. It's a trade off.
But like others have said and I have said, seek out local charities if it bothers you. They tend not to have the overhead of large groups.
Ok, checked in at WGN news, on the each hour and from 7am -9am Kate was not on, but right at the end of the news cast at 8:58am, they did a clip(Kate was on during the 6am hour) not about the Coupon Cabin, but Dean Richards question to Kate about the kids and her being called a bad mother and the kid under the van pic, and of course Kate gave the same answer she did on the View, and on Twitter, and she had on some black top that the material looks like the stuff I would use for drapes or tablecloth, must be that FLA designer stuff. I don't know if there is a clip of the segment yet.
Kate was on during the 6am hour, which is stupid to start, cause most people who work are getting up, and ready for work or on their way to work. If they do not have to get up they will sleep to 8am, but if they do they are getting the kids off to school. So I don't know who would be watching her. This was a poor choice, for Coupon Cabin to get their site known, cause this is a Chicago TV station, and WGN news is more local stuff, they broadcast on cable to other cities, but really, does anyone in another city care what happens in Chicago? I know I don't care what happens in say NYC, especially local stuff, I don't live there. Coupon Cabin would have been better off getting Kate on Today or yeah the View or the Talk, Regis & Kelly or Ellen or Rachel Ray, Nate Burkus, these shows are national, not just local. Stupid on their part, but if this was Kates manager that booked her, she needs to get another manager. Kate from that little clip was not all smiles either. I have no desire to see the rest of the interview, that clip was enough! for me!

Oh and hourly rates? 10-11 bucks an hour there. That is nothing really. Especially given that a lot of their headquarters are in expensive cities.
Did you actually say couponcabin UM, .com Couponcabin um dot com????
She can't even say her web site without an um.
Dancing around how much money she makes worse than DWTS.
RE: the Chicago video, man alive kate gives the worst interview. She is joyless. Maybe it's the botox.
The looking down, up and sideways, the em's and um's, the shaking her legs so her whole body moves... I wonder if Coupon Cabin was impressed by their new girl.
I admire the newscasters for throwing some heavy questions at Kate, like will the kids not look back on their lives being televised in a not so favorable way.
It's so interesting that this woman has been trading herself being a paragon of motherhood when she is away from her kids and letting someone else raise them almost half the time.
Way to go whoever the reporter said who dared to question her that MAYBE when the kids are older MAYBE they might not look back on all this filming not so favorably???
Of course Kate, oh no I'm not worried about that at all! I'm firm on it!

YES! That is the gist of it, or rather, the whole of it, right here. Why even ask this has-been? What can she even bring to the table as a spokesperson? Kevin Bacon & Kate don't belong in the same sentence. Kevin Bacon was shaking his ass in Footloose long before Kate had a gleam in her eye about having multiples, right? Or, getting slashed in Friday the 13th! (his 1st movie-I'm a movie buff, especially horror)
Why Kate? I'm with "Banging Head" here...she is not a celebrity.
PS* Big bwahaha's about taking the photo down.

OMG, I'm just now watching Kate's interview on WGN from this morning and it has to be one of her worst. From the first second before she knows the cam is live and she's scowling to the constant leg shaking to her stale old excuses about how wonderful the show has been for her family which she's repeated on every interview - she's nervous, uncomfortable, and unrelatable. And, of course, she feels she's held to a higher standard than others on tv!
Highly recommend the link posted by TotallyDisgusted. The interviewers asked some pointed questions. Kate's demeanor seems almost defensive for the most part. She barely smiles, constantly twitches in her seat, the usual complement of ums and uhs. Very little about CouponCabin, what she says was clearly written for her and certainly practiced, no mention of her Web site or anything else she might be doing. I thought it was a pretty weak performance. She is NOT cut out for unscripted TV, that gets more clear with every appearance she makes. Gift of gab is noticeably lacking.
They ask her what she thinks her kids are going to think of their lives on video 20 years from now. She claims all of the decisions she made with respect to the filming took "great thought" (NFW) and she says she is not concerned about it at all.
Worth watching, thanks for link.
The guy asking her the questions, is Dean Richards, he use to be a DJ back in the late 60's and early 70s, on either WLS or WCFL radio. From the clip they played at the end of the news cast, she was not her giddy goofy self, perhaps it was too early for her royal highassness. Did she have hooker heels or boots on, was that a dress or a top? I won't watch the rest.
NEW POST with the WGN thing, it was just that good.
Kate will never understand that absolutes are not attractive. Instead of saying I never worry whatsoever about the kids hating the filming years from now, NEVER EVER EVER!!! Instead say, well, yes I do wonder if I made the best decisions. Every parent does whether you are filming your kids or not. But I think I did what was best for my family at the time and I can only hope for the best that they will continue to feel the same.
She needs us in her earpiece so bad, she is a wreck.

I can almost hear Kate now...... "I got a tweet from the Red Cross asking me to send in a picture. I wrapped myself up in a RC blanket to show how the RC protects people and gives them a safe place to be. I'm a Mom of 8 and when my kids are scared or cold, I put them under a nice warm blanket and they feel better."
How's that? Have I got it down to Kate logic?

AND then put them on a laundry room floor....

She was just AWFUL this morning and since this was most likely her first official assignment after signing on with CouponCabin, they've certainly gotten a good taste of how well she'll do representing them and a feel for how they've spent their money.

39 cents on the dollar for programming would be terrible, if it were accurate. In fact, in FY10 ARC spent 92.1% of it's $ on programming and received the maximum 4-star rating from Charity Navigator.
As allways Kate talked about her self and how she felt the kids should feel. Here what ot was about.
How much money she didn't make.
How the crew still come over.
How she feels the kids will fell when they get older.
How she made the best choices by herself.
How the media allways hurts her and gets it wrong.
And once again she didn't tell about her twitter account or her/family website. Same old same old

Salaries aren't the whole picture, Admin. Overhead is also advertising, endorsements, promotions, real estate, fundraising, etc.
I've only read a few comments but I hope someone made the Red Cross aware how often Kate parks in the NO PARKING FIRE LANE. Kate is just not very intelligent and the reason I dislike her the most is how she comes across that she feels entitled
Admin, Kate wants us to know she is in charge. Thus, all those absolutes she always gives. No doubt, no question, always in charge, forever. She is really so insecure she must speak in absolutes to keep herself convinced that what she is saying is "correct." Pathetic indeed.
I just cannot stand stupid. http://www.facebook.com/CouponCabin?sk=wall&filter=1
To keep this job at cc.um she is going to need a muzzle.
