On the Runners World forums people who were at the LV marathon said that Kate gave a little speech before the start. She said she trained "in subzero temperatures in PA". HAHA. What a joke! I think this is a matter of Kate's poor verbal skills. Well, that and her propensity to exaggerate and look like a dilettante, once again.
I've mentioned before that when I lived in PA (Upper Bucks), about an hour away from the Reading region, I was running heavily. Every winter night when I'd drive home from work to my tiny little town, I'd pass by a local bank which had a time and temperature digital display.
If the temp was below 20 degrees, I'd really have to think twice about getting in a run, and most of the time I just scrapped the plan and did a workout on my dinky stepper machine. Which is to say, Kate has never run in sub-zero temps. She's just too dumb to know the difference between sub-freezing and sub-zero. Ugh.
Kate tries so hard to extrapolate something significant from her life to speak about, so that she can look like she belongs, but it's painfully obvious that she is not among her peers. From relating a story about trying to save a dove fledgling in her backyard at a zoo whose mission is to save endangered species (which sounded an awful lot like Kindergarten show and tell), to speaking to seasoned long distance runners, having herself just completed one 20 mile run in her lifetime.
I know none of us here are surprised that Kate has used her running as a means to garner more media attention. It's what she does. But, it is refreshing to see real runners and fitness devotees call her out... for once!
Again, kudos to her manager, Carson May, for successfully insinuating Kate into realms that she has not earned the right to be ranked among and called a peer, let alone speak to with any modicum of authority.
It looks as though Kate is trying to gear up the media interest for herself and her APRIL marathon run. The article in the March issue will most definitely have a blurb about her upcoming trip for her next Marathon. Even though there is a RnR Marathon in Wash DC (only about 3 hours from her home) the bets are all out that she is headed to Spain on the dime of Competitor.com (people who sponsor RnR Marathon) She's game for any place warm and away from the kids. It's obvious from her other trips that she'll plan for 10 days away while she prepares and then recuperates after the event.
Kate is avidly trying to keep herself in the limelight but doesn't want to truly work at a real job. Sad thing is, these articles and self promotion won't do much toward putting food on the table for her little ones. Even if she does get a couple of thousand for the pictures and her time, her bills are piling up.
Her spending habits have done her no favors in this economy as well, which is why she stopped crying poor all the time. The latest Coupon Cabin post alienated many moms who use coupons to save money not to pile more gifts under the tree.
Her manager and financial person may have told her that she should be comfortable for about a year without having to work so that she can self-promote, but after that if she has nothing coming in regarding a tv or radio show, she's going to have to find something else that will pay the bills on a regular basis.
She's biding her time, her fishing line is out hoping for a bite, and she's working hard at trying to be relevant. Unfortunately, while she does this her star is fading. More and more I see her off the radar when it comes to interest in her. She really has nothing to offer. So she runs, good for her, but how is that good for society as a whole, not to mention her children? Perhaps being away from her kids is a blessing in disguise for them. Who knows? Regardless, it's nice to see her tarnished star fading.

To be honest, I haven't really seen a great deal of conversation about her in the mainline media recently. Most news searches for her pull up articles on Gather and frankly Gather seems to be getting most of their info from her twitter feed and 15 Minutes. I think for most of the United States, Kate dropped off the radar a LONG time ago. She just seems to continue to be relevant because she's the main topic of conversation here. It's all Kate, 95% of the time (which, given that the name of the blog is 15 Minutes Gosselin Style, makes sense).
As for her latest foray into the world of fitness/lifestyle gurus, we all saw that coming years ago when she first started pushing the "I run xx miles a day and I eat organic, no carbs (although she's apparently changed her stance on that now). She's just trying to rebrand herself. We'll see if it takes. I don't put anything beyond Kate's PR team. If they can put her out at events and keep her in control (hence the reason Steve is still around), they can potentially succeed in making money off her for a little while longer. On first glance, Kate doesn't seem all that bad. It takes people a little while to get to know her before they realize that she's really a piece of work and not worth the trouble.
Frankly, as long as the kids aren't being filmed, Kate's free to do as she pleases, imo. If she can rebrand herself as a lifestyle expert, more power to her. Yes, the "I'm a mom of 8 kids - 2 twins and 6 sextuplets" will always be part of her schtick but frankly I think Kate herself wants to move beyond that moniker. She hasn't been able to because it's what she's best known for and she's desperate at this point to keep herself in the limelight, but I think you'll see her continue to try and distance herself from the kids, professionally, as time goes on. Kate is a narcissist through and through and she wants the spotlight all to herself.

Absolutely! Carson May must work over-time trying to find the next angle to make this horror - I mean Kate - the next "new" thing. She's sure extended Kate's shelf-life beyond anything that should have been reasonable.
But how does she sleep at night?
I'll bet the running gig is the last of it. If Kate is already exciting scorn from real runners, her ability to make a mark in that arena is probably just about nil.
She's fighting a lot, between the whole question of her complete lack of integrity, her long list of failed attempts to find a niche, and whatever it is that allows her to keep making clueless comments like the one about making sure she slaps lipstick on at the finish line. She's been told she can afford this time to reinvent herself (and kudos to the manager whose salary is still being paid) into a really big media salary, you know, the one she thinks is out there for her. Reality check - you suck big time in front of a camera and frankly your age is going to work against you. The women that she thinks are her peers all started much younger and have done the hard work to get up that ladder. What exactly will running in Madrid lead to? That trip to Oz in November, same thing, limited exposure, small market. Even delusional People magazine gets nasty feedback when they put her in. Pay Julie Carson, pay Steve, but IMHO this is going to accomplish little in the long run. K8, you are simply not a draw for the Big Show. Yes, you do need a new career, but the longer you think it's in media, the older you will be when the bubble bursts. Obviously nursing, what you did in a former and younger life, is of no interest to you, but this MeMeMe life will not pay the bills down the road.

You have to have talent to be in the media. If, by chance, you have an enviable pedigree, you still have to prove yourself. And I agree with those above who have stated that Kate is rather late to the game.
Exhibit 1: Luke Russert. His beloved dad, Tim Russert, was an iconic media figure in the DC and national political media scene. After Tim's sudden and tragic death due to suffering a fatal heart attack, his son Luke began his media rise, following in his dad's footsteps. Luke has a long way to go, but he is charismatic and has a relatable "boy next door" quality that his dad did. He's well on his way to becoming ensconced in the DC political scene.
Exhibit 2: Chelsea Clinton. Even with a pedigree such as the first daughter in President Clinton's White House and many undertakings with her mother, the former Senator from New York and current Secretary of State, she's getting panned for her lackluster performance on Rock Center. She just may not have "it" and no one is going to gamble on her no matter whose genetic material she is derived from if she doesn't improve her performance in many ways.
Then there's Kate who has no pedigree and whose claim to fame is taking fertility medications, delivering 8 healthy babies because she had world-class medical care and using her windfall of babies to become a Reality TV star who became addicted to fame, money and celebrity treatment.
Doesn't bode well for Kate...
Shame on Runner Mag, for putting in their mag a person who has not earned the right to be there. If they are a true runners mag, then they should put people in there who are prof-runners, not has-been reality persons, who only took up running for a hobby 3 years ago, and started to really run, cause this is good publicity, and media attention, and freebees, cause Kate can't get to Hollywood. If I were a running person I would be PO'd.
I also think Kate next marathon might be the Honda LA marathon, cause that Dixion guy had that listed as a marathon he does, and it is after the Vegas one, before Madrid.
I think Kate knows her time. So does everyone. What Kate is looking for is where did she place in her age group. One of her tweeters sent her that info. But she should be able to look it up herself. Better yet, call the race coordinators, since she's a VIP and all.

It's much easier to find the energy when you're not working away from home 10 hours a day and you have a multitude of helpers for the home and kids. How do these people keep themselves so ignorant of the facts? Kate is far from a role model for healthy living with her terribly risky habit of using tanning beds, exposing herself to a plethora of chemicals for hair processing, and severe calorie, fat and carb restriction. Kate thinks that being thin is being healthy, when indeed, it's not. There's a lot more to it than that.
A lot of us takes risks, but do not portend to be a poster child for health when you're habit is as bad as your ex-husbands. Both should quit the silliness for the sake of the kids.

I still think Kate's "claim to fame" is from the horrible way she treated her husband and children. Nobody would know who she is now had she been sugary sweet and loving in those first two hour-long documentaries. She made people notice her, not because she had 8 kids ( big whoop), but because of her yelling and screeching and hitting and nasty attitude. People wanted to watch this crazy lady berate her husband and bark at her children ~ and they wanted to watch this nutcase unravel and do the next mean thing to whomever happened to be her victim in the next episode. Having 8 kids had nothing to do with her rise to fame. It was her sassy mouth and unbelievable disdain toward her husband that did it. "Who the heck IS this vile woman?"...people wondered. And that whacky hairdo that made her look even more insane.
Being a bitch on tv is her legacy.
That show "Table For Twelve"...I can't even tell you what their names were anymore. Long forgotten because they were too nice and normal.
On another note,
Poor Chelsea Clinton. I admire her, but wow she was bad on NBC Nightly News. I think she has some potential if she works on some things, but watching her first segment was painful. I felt so bad for her knowing she was going to get hammered in the press. She was like Lisa Ling on downers. Bless her heart.

Ah, interesting. Runner's World is based in Emmaus, PA, which is about an hour away from Kate. Hmm...
I think what happens is that someone from Kate's entourage contacts these people at companies, promoting her, seeing what they can mutually work out.
The contactee is apparently clueless on Kate stuff and gets suckered in by the contactor (who is perhaps a friend or social contact, using that connection to get in the door). The contactee has NO idea of what he/she is getting himself into.
The contactor promotes Kate as a famous, wholesome, mom of 8, who can bring attention to the contactee's company/cause.
The contactor doesn't tell them that not only is it 99% negative attention, it's gonna cost them a lot of money in limo's, first class air fare, first class hotels, a body guard, and on and on, along with absolutely NO promotion of the company/cause from this celebrity.
The only thing this celebrity will promote is herself.
The innocent contactee thinks they're getting this wholesome mom of 8, cuz that's what the contactor is telling them.
Thus, they don't do ANY vetting of Kate.
And then....the firestorm erupts.
One of the big things to remember is that Kate's manager and publicist do not get paid unless Kate gets paid for these events. Usually a manager and/or publicist makes 15% of what the fee is. That is why they are keeping her relevant. (Steve and J.C.M.) It's their job to make money off of her. Which is funny and ironic since Kate made all her money off of her kids. Now that her kids aren't in the picture she's finding it awfully difficult to stay in the limelight.
If Kate goes back to nursing Steve and JCM don't get paid. JCM has other clients and should be okay, but Steve is nothing but a has-been, kinda watched over a president, bolt-on-advisor.

No, that's Ellie. I think she's 17. She's in England and a few days ago, after she tweeted to Khate that she shipped out her Christmas gifts, Ellie then tweeted Maggie. Maggie is the 10 year old girl in England who sent Cara and Mady chocolates for their birthday. She had to ask Khate on Twitter several times, almost begging her, as to whether the package was ever received. Then, Khate finally said she went and got it and the kids were eating the chocolates. She also said the twins emailed Maggie.
So, Ellie tweeted Khate that she mailed out Khate's Christmas gifts. Then, Ellie tweeted Maggie to tell her how shockingly expensive it was (£15 = over $23). Maggie asked Ellie what she got them, and Ellie replied chocolate and Olympic souvenirs. She said it was so hard figuring out what to get them all. So, it looks like that prompted young Maggie to get shopping because a few days later (yesterday), Maggie tweeted Khate that she mailed out her Christmas gifts.
So, let's see - Khate was sent gifts from sheeple:
* When her show was canceled
* For Mady and Cara's birthday
* For Christmas
Now, do we really believe that it will stop? No way! In only a few months, they will send Khate birthday gifts, and then after that, birthday gifts for the sextuplets.
Khate's one regret in life is probably that she didn't think of getting on Twitter sooner!
Oh, silly me, I forgot - the sheeple will probably send Khate candy for Valentine's Day. Maybe flowers too. Ha ha!

No problem. This stuff is so crazy, you couldn't even make it up. As far as Maggie, once Khate finally replied to her tweets about the twins' birthday gift and said the kids were eating the chocolate she sent, lots of non-fans on Twitter were tweeting that it was dangerous for Khate to do that. They tweeted that Khate has no idea who "Maggie" really is, and there's a chance she is not a kid, but some crazy person.
Maggie got upset and tweeted a reply, including Jon's name in it - so when he saw it, he replied to her:

Sheeple not so much...With that said, Kate must now go to Spain to show off her talent, instead of a local race. It is all about tht travel, and time away from the kids.

I'm not convinced that maggiegeorge1 is really 10 years old. She almost never misspells anything and talks very fluidly for that age. No slang or anything. She also seems to be up sometimes quite late at night.
I don't know, also, what sort of parent would play along with sending things to the U.S. for the Gosselins (especially at that expense). I don't doubt that stuff is being sent, just not convinced that maggie is truly that young. If she is, then what is up with her parents?

Jubilee Shalom Duggar was due in April ... but Michelle Duggar suffered a miscarriage on Sunday in her 2nd trimester.
The Duggars held a memorial today at their church in Arkansas, where they distributed the above photographs -- containing messages like, "There is no foot too small that it cannot leave an imprint on this world."
The photos were first posted on Twitter by a family member -- and then surfaced on a fan site.
We reached out to the family for comment -- so far, no word back.

I don't actually see Kate as having any ethical boundaries at all. I think when the grifting started, back when she really might have been worried about how to provide for all of those kids, she saw how easy it was to keep repeating, I have to do it for my kids, I have to do it for my kids. I think she now uses that same mantra to justify any and all of her own personal wants, and it never occurs to her to question it. She has very successfully brainwashed herself, along with a few of her sheeple (the ones who always say, "Well, what do you want her to do??? She has EIGHT KIDS!!!")
The shark analogy fits her well--always swimming, always seeking, always consuming, dead-eyed, with never a thought as to why or whether there is another, better course of action. I think she is intellectually lazy and just doesn't bother herself with these sorts of questions.

Isn't the problem that Kate is also mentally unstable and emotionally stunted? She's just as entitled to receive gifts as her fans are entitled to believe in an imaginary connection to her that is achieved through an unacknowledged gift to a UPS office.
Her behavior IS immoral, but she neither cares nor knows the difference.
Of course it's horrible that she grifts from her fans, some of whom may be children, but there's some responsibility on that side, too. Adults should know better, or should be willing to accept the consequences of sending stuff to someone who will barely acknowledge it.
Kids should have parents who are paying better attention. Children whose parents aren't involved in their lives will always be good prey, whether the predator is a Kate or a Blankinship. Pimping, grifting, and cultivating an unrealistic fantasy relationship are all wrong and create expectations in kids that aren't healthy. Kids shouldn't be that kind of prey any more than they should be sexual fodder for a video editor.
One child fan (17, I think) did Tweet that her mother was angry with her when the mom found out that she was trying to send, "expensive" gifts (Vera Bradley, I think) to the twins.
Those gifts never got sent, since the person who was handing out Kate's address at the time (Gilmer?) dropped the ball, and Kate somehow failed to notice. The problems the child had with getting the address took long enough to play out that the child fan's mother found out, and mom made sure the gifts got donated elsewhere (they were personalized, complicating things).
All of this was reported on the Twitter feed by the child, who sounded as if she really got the message her mother was trying to give her. But the other fans seemed to have missed the message.
You can't prevent willful stupidity, and you can't prevent someone like Kate from taking maximum advantage of it at every turn. But, sure, it definitely unethical.
By the way, I doubt she's grifting from very many children younger than 16. It's pretty clear that some, if not most, of the profiles, as ever on the internet, are bogus.

Well, no, not a publicity stunt, but they were passed around and shown to neighbors, at least in my family. I guess my family was just weird, but they took these babies to the photography studio and opened their eyes for the photos. Multiple cards were made and passed around. I found an old box of photographs, and there were at least a dozen CDVs of the same dead baby. My grandmother said that they handed them out at the funeral service (scripture verse on reverse side of the card..."suffer the little children to come unto me"). You actually couldn't tell that the baby was deceased.

I was part of a college group that got to do a meet and greet in his office with him, and afterward we all looked at each other like, yeah didn't get much outta that given that's all we could think about. On another note, the 60 Minutes homelessness story they did the other week? The update this week (we're playing catch up with Tivo after a busy week!) says that viewers have pledged a million dollars toward the families and all of the families have been offered jobs And I bet every single job is mediocre too, f you Kate! You might be right. I've only seen these pictures made of essentially full-term babies, and that's what I meant (maybe wrongly) when I used the term. I was referring to images of full-term (or close to that) babies who did not survive the birth.
The posing was quite common, though it seems a little creepy to me, along with the eye-opening. Grieving people need different things, though, and that undoubtedly accounts for what seem like odd practices.
I think it was not uncommon to give the cards at a service, but they sure weren't published in the newspaper, or passed around to huge groups of strangers (or around the neighborhood generally), so I'd still say that historical usage was quite a different thing from what the Duggars have done.

I have always thought there was a strong connection between reality TV and eroding one's sense of boundaries. If you film all the time for the public, do you lose your sense of what is appropriate and what isn't?

Yes, but that was different from the Duggar's experience. It wasn't a miscarriage. She delivered the baby at five months. It was a stillbirth, and the baby lived for two hours.

The photo of Jon and Kate makes me sort of sad. She was beginning her climb, but was still soft enough to look pretty. And she had natural nails. Personally, I don't like the french manicure look any more. Those big square nails have lost their appeal. I am glad they are going out of style.

That is SO ridiculous! He acted like an idiot for maybe six months in 2009? He's been almost completely off the radar for all of 2010 and 2011. But, I guarantee you that if you ask people who's the most hated, Khate's name would definitely pop up a LOT more than Jon's.

My husband and I are talking about it now, both horrified over that and over the fact that I was stupid enough to check out the Duggar story on TMZ. Really, really disturbing stuff.

The whole Bio thing was weird. Howard Stern started the list at #10, then other reality stars like Spencer Pratt (2), Levi Johnston (6), Nadya Suleman (4 I think), Jon (5), Paris Hilton (8 or so), plus Heidi Fleiss, OJ Simpson, Jesse James, and #1 was Casey Anthony. It was weird because who even thinks about OJ Simpson anymore, or cares what Howard Stern does? Paris is living quietly and so is Heidi. The whole thing was odd. What was interesting though, is that two female comedians (who were apparently on a reality show with Pratt) who commented on each one were saying, "Jon, what are you doing? You are the one we LIKE!" and proceeded to talk about how he was henpecked. They took that interview he did about how he'd made mistakes completely out of context too. As I said, oh well.

About fifteen years ago, Karen Santorum, who was a nurse, gave birth prematurely. at five months. They named the baby Gabriel. He lived for only two or so hours. They took the baby to his in-laws in Pittsburgh to show him to their other children before they buried him. If I remember, they let the kids hold the baby and there they had a private memorial service for him. Santorum keeps a photo of the baby in his office.

You're welcome (I think). It seems creepy to take a dead baby home and let the siblings meet it, talk to it, but it really isn't all that different than the customs of the Amish, who hold services in their home where the casket is open, and family members, including children, can touch the deceased baby, sing hymns to it, and be right there when the last respects are paid.
Every person grieves differently and has different needs about it. I've never been pregnant so I can only try to imagine the devastation of a still birth, miscarriage, or newborn death.
Some want to put the horror and pain behind them as quickly as possible, and remove all reminders of the child from their home. Others go the opposite way and hang onto absolutely everything they can to remind them of this child. They want to be able to "prove" or "validate" - or whatever you want to call it - to themselves that this child was here, he/she was ours, and will always be a part of us. Pictures, items purchased for the child, etc. all become precious. Pictures are the most comforting for them because it is the indisputable fact that little Johnson James Jones actually was a real human being. It's especially important to those who believe life begins at conception, but that's not a requirement. There will be a page in the family album for this child, because this child was a living person for as long as he/she was in the womb, even if for too short a time.
I've seen this before and have tried to be as understanding as a non-mother could be.
The Biography show tonight was an old one. I saw it at least a year and a half ago. It didn't paint Kate in a kind light, but it trashed Jon. The reason you can tell it was old was all the pics of Kate and Jon were from 2009, none of Kate's new hair, new boobs, no heels, nothing whatsoever about Kate's behavior SINCE the divorce. They mentioned Jon's sports car but no mention of Kate's. Why? Because this was just a repeat of a former bad show. I know people don't like Jon, but to be on a list with O.J. Simpson? OMG. Just ridiculous. As much as I dislike Kate, even she doesn't belong on a list with O.J.
Fido, good points. I suppose what you do in private should be whatever you need to do to get through it.
But both the Santorums and the Duggars decided to make unconventional grieving processes very public. I don't know, it feels disrespectful of the dead to put on such a display like that for the public. Santorum's wife wrote all about it in a book, and the Duggars splashed the photos at a funeral--I believe knowing full well the media would easily get a hold of those. If that's what someone needs to do fine but does it have to be a spectacle? My cousin recently had a late miscarriage (first baby, devastating) and they did take photos but they haven't shared them and I don't think anyone intends to ask them to do that. I only know because when she sent us a PRIVATE email breaking the news she mentioned that they took photos. They sure as heck weren't attached.
Allison, I would agree with you except for Casey Anthony being in the #1 spot. That was recent. So was Sandra Bullock's divorce and all her husband's affairs. Maybe they were too lazy to update beyond that or something. You're right, all the photos and clips were old, of ALL the people on the list. Heidi Fleiss' stint on Celebrity Rehab was not even mentioned and they could have had a field day with that.
Admin, it is my fervent hope that if TLC brings up the idea of exploiting this miscarriage, that the Duggars will say "We will talk about it because it happened. But we just ask that our friends in TV land pray for our family to heal as we move on without our little angel. Thank you for your love and concern." The end.

I saw the Duggar pics on TMZ. Even if the Duggars didn't release them to the media, they should know with their fame pictures can be leaked.
There's a family portrait of the Duggars at the funeral. One of the younger girls is covering her eyes while the granddaughter is covering her ears. They must be getting tired of this mess.
The Duggars, as Admin put it, apparently have lost their sense of boundaries, they seem quite capable of exploiting every personal family exerience without any help from TLC. I am sorry for their loss, but question their moral compass. If they had only kept the photos within the privacy of their family circle, but it was not TLC who arranged and announced their funeral plans. They are driving this train.
I for one think there is nothing wrong with how the Duggars choose to mourn their miscarried daughter. Everyone mourns in their own way. In my opinion, which we are allowed on this site, it is right to criticize anyone for how they choose to deal with their grief.
One owns religion and relationship with God is theirs to share however they feel comfortable, with themselves and with God. If they feel that the Spirit will comfort them by sharing it openly or privately is for them to decide.
Maybe the Duggars ways are what you see as crude and shameful but they have never made any attempt to hurt, manipulate, deceive, connive, or make others look bad in any on their shows. In fact they have shown quite the opposite. And their children are well behaved and try to follow the same practices as their parents. So far they have not shown any signs of needing counseling,other that what is difference of opinion w/religious beliefs.
If you want to use the argument that they exploit their children, that wont hold water in my book. The money they have all earned is not being spent foolishly. In fact, just the opposite. The money goes to all the children for any activity they may choose. They are all educated and quite intelligent.
This site had a purpose. It was to get the kids, who's parents were using the kids money for their self gain and greed, to halt the harmful lies and deceptive behavior that was obviously effecting their children You have succeeded.
Administrator, I'm sure you will disagree, but please hold off on posting anymore negative comments about the Duggars until what they choose to do is directly hurting anyone outside their family. We all make bad choices and they will have to answer to God for what they choose for their children. It's necessary for everyone's growth. We ourselves are going to be responsible for our own choices regardless of the Duggars example in our eyes.

What I would like to know is what makes what the Duggars do inappropriate. Because we say so? It becomes inappropriate when it harms or effects someones life negatively.
If we start going on the opinion that it's uncomfortable for us, we may as well go back to where we institutionalize for ms, or sp. For that matter, offending others for not agreeing. That really is inappropriate.

Did you see the episode where they filmed their 10 year old son right after he fell into an orchestra pit? Not knowing if he was paralyzed or could even die? Ma Duggar whipped out a cell phone camera and filmed away and in her interview had a big goofy smile about it all because don't you know they film everything.

As far as I know, she has made no requests for minors to send her gifts. She accepts them, but she doesn't ask these kids to send her anything. I think she knows exactly what she's doing is not illegal, and she'll figure a way to get around it. Didn't someone file a complaint when she ran that poster contest and the winner was a minor? Regarding the Duggars and the public loss of Jubilee, I think there is a creep factor here, not as in "creepy", but in the slow, insidious influence of filming one's private life for public consumption. Boundaries get blurred and egos become grandiose, steeped in the thinking that the family ought to appease the public's thirst for knowledge about them. That the family would be abandoning their fans if they did not share everything and that "we do it for them". A magnanimous gesture on their part, if you will.
The Duggars are a dichotomy wrapped in an enigma, to borrow a phrase.
I can not go so far as to call them hypocrites, because they have not undergone the scandal-ridden metamorphasis that Kate has, yet there is a disconnect between their religious beliefs and the very public, high profile and public relations-driven life that they all lead.
The Duggars exploit their kids/family just like Kate did. They can be sweet as pie, exploitation is exploitation.
When I first heard of the late miscarriage, I cringed because they were having to address it so publicly! But then I remembered everything they do, ESPECIALLY regarding their fertility, is made public by them. They announce every pregnancy on the Today show, for crying out loud. So I thought ok, you live by the sword, you die by the sword. They announced the happy news in public, now they have to deal with the sad news in public.
As someone who has suffered two ectopic pregnancies and multiple miscarriages, I can't even imagine having to be so public about such a painful matter.
But then I saw pictures of the funeral, the picture cards they made, all that. Ok that's their way of grieving, fine. But it struck me that they don't mind dealing with this very painful thing very publicly. Everything is public for them.
Everything is public for them. To me that doesn't fit with their professed beliefs. There's something definitely very off about this couple. The exploitation is strong with them. And it will continue no matter what the event as long as there are cameras around.
I don't give them a free pass.

Admin, I agree about the free pass for the Duggers. There are better ways to evangelize your faith then filming a reality show. And do they set aside each child's share or does it go into one communal account? As for the son who fell in the pit, what else did you expect? They had already crossed the line of filming their children's medical emergencies long ago.
I have no issue with them having a memorial for Jubilee. I have no issue with the pics they took - not something I think I would do but I'm blessed to have never been in that situation so I really don't know. have at least approved this over the top memorial service, and that's just bad form. A quiet service with just family and friends would have been more appropriate, imo. I believe the public photos are a jab to those who believe in freedom of choice when it comes to the reproductive system. This wasn't about dealing with their grief, it was about making a statement. The only sympathy I feel is for that dead fetus that didn't have a chance because her mother's body is worn out.

I feel so sorry for the Duggars loss.
It goes against the natural order of things for a parent to bury their child. I know we all respond to loss differently. What would appear normal for one person, might be macabre to another.
I don't know how I would react if I loss a child. But I know one thing for sure, the last thought in my head would be to televise it.

My husband and I lost a baby daughter at 20 weeks. She was perfectly healthy but she strangled on her umbulical cord. The hospital took a lot of pictures of her, wrapped in a baby blanket with a preemie knit hat on. They told us one of the reasons they do it is because the parents' memories can be skewed while under such terrible stress & they want them to have a realistic photo so you don't have false memories of the baby looking "perfect" and "rosy". The fact is, when the baby dies it floats in water, dead, until the lack of heartbeat is discovered on an ultrasound. They would only let us pick up the pics at the hospital while meeting with a grief counselor, because they are hard to see. We brought the pictures home, along with her receiving blanket & hat. To this day, no one but my husband, my sister & I have seen them and it's been 16 years. We also got the little pink card with her teeny footprints on it.
I think the Duggars are disgusting for not keeping the pictures private. I won't look at them and I don't think their young kids needed to see them. And certainly the tabloid world doesn't need to see them. If they wanted to make a statement about the dignity of life they could have made copies of the baby's footprint card to pass around.
They wouldn't allow sick little Josie her dignity, or the boy who fell 12 ft & could have been permanently injured, so why stop at a dead baby? Ugh.

I also finally thought of a solution to one of my long-standing coupon problems. I always have these great (paper) coupons for restaurants I like, stores I like, but I always seem to miss the expiration date. I've tried putting them all in an envelope and keeping them in my car, but I forget about the envelope!
So today, I bought a small, plastic accordion file holder that has an elastic around it. I had to find one with many dividers. I got one with seven.
On each tab, I put:
1-5
6-10
11-15
16-20
21-25
26-31
Then the seventh tab reads "No Date."
Those are the days of the month, and I file them by expiration date. It's small enough to fit in my purse, so now I can check for paper coupons and my phone for electronic codes whenever I'm out.
I've got four coupons in there for Ulta with four different expiration dates! I'm going this weekend to get Christmas items for my daughter.

I just want to thank everyone on this site. I don't post often but I read here almost everynight when I get some down time. I along with the rest of you can't stand this woman. I never watched the show when it was on, but I have started watching it online and I have to say Kate was never any kind of mother to these kids. Jon was both mom and dad to them while Kate stood around and barked orders and complained how tired she was. As far as I am concerned Jon earned his moments of being a little out of control. Kate is a horrible mother and human being. She never did anything that came close to being a decent mom. In one episode Collin is crying because he is in pain, he is crying to his mom, Kate tells him to go to daddy and continues to ignore all her children while she can't decide what beds to buy. Jon actually takes his son out and helps him with his pain because he sees he son is hurting really badly. Watching this episode I wanted to strangle Kate, I am a Grandma and pretty laid back so I usually don't think violent thoughts but I actually hate this person so much I can't wait for the day she is completely forgotten I can't wait for Karma to catch up with this horrible horrible person. Please let it happen soon. Admin you are great, as all the rest of you regulars on this site I love reading all of your different opinions and comments.

Well, I clearly have too much time on my hands, because I just googled Sprinter vans (like the big, blue bus). Did you know that Mercedes has a sprinter model? It will be interesting to see if that is what Kate got. Only the best for her kiddos---everything on a golden platter. The base price starts at $36k, but I don't think that version is equipped to carry eight passengers, so the price would be a lot more.

Nothing fancy, but this is what greets me (its the first thing I see!) each morning….My coffee set up in my room assembled on an old mahogany table I inherited from my grandparents. I use mugs and decor from the many places we have had the opportunity to visit. Drinking coffee from a mug that brings back memories starts my days out right… Usually! :)

Times are so bad financially for the former star of “Jon & Kate Plus 8” that his prestigious BMW M3 was recently repossessed, and the infamous skirt-chaser is now stuck driving his mother’s beat-up minivan, reveal insiders.
The 34-year-old dad – who works in construction and installation – missed multiple payments on the vehicle, disclosed a friend.
“Jon contemplated selling the car a few times over the past couple of years, but he never did,” noted the friend. “He loved it and always scraped together the monthly payments.”
But the hard-pressed hard hat – who lives in a one-bedroom apartment in Wyomissing, Pa., with his 24-year-old girlfriend Ellen Ross and several rescued dogs – could no longer afford the upscale car.

I know next to nothing about the workings of Twitter, but I do check twazzup, and lately (at night) I get the error - Over Quota message. What exactly does this mean? Overload? Too many people tweeting or reading? Is there any way to get around this?

I am going out on a limb here. But a few months ago Kate was crying the blues about how BBB need so much work done on it. She seemed to be trying to grift a new one. Perhaps someone finally did give her one or a great deal on one. She gives Jon the other one because heaven forbid he should be allowed to drive the new one.

So, if Khate did "give" Jon the BBB, first of all, like mentioned above, it was a gift to both of them, or really to the family, anyway. Secondly, as mentioned above, Khate had mentioned in one of her blogs not long ago that the BBB was being repaired, and it needed a lot of work lately. The ONLY reason she would have given the BBB to him and then tweeted this is to deflect from any attention she might get soon when people see that she has a brand new vehicle, her second this year. One driver in that house, and three vehicles, all while she's spent ALL YEAR crying poor and accepting freebies and gifts!
I think it goes without saying that it is most likely the children's money that bought the new van. I seriously cannot WAIT for her to face-plant into the wall of ETERNAL OBLIVION. No one deserves it more, NO ONE.

It really is a case of "He said, she said" or in this case "He said, The Enquirer said". Although, in Jon's defense, I do believe there were articles a year ago that confirmed he did indeed sell the BMW.
Anyway, it really doesn't matter. If Kate gave Jon the van, it means that she plans on either buying another one or it means she's figured out it's cheaper to pay Jon child support to watch the kids than it is to hire nannies when she's gone on her cross country/international jaunts. Or it could mean she's decided to give him the boys to raise, which drops her down to five kids, which a normal mini van or SUV would be able to handle.

This blog and several others were born from the fact that this woman ALWAYS and ONLY does what's best FOR HER... first. The eight children come a very distant second, when she can squeeze a few minutes in for them between bi-weekly vacations and being holed up in her office/bedroom while a nanny looks after them.
Perhaps the BBB was still in Jon's name (or even in both their names) and Kate couldn't legally trade it in toward the new van, so that's why she graciously let him have it. I just don't see her giving it to him for free out of the goodness of her heart.

Remember, several people tried to donate mini-vans and 10 person vans to them. 10 people in the family- 10 passenger van- right? WRONG-O!! Only a 14 passenger van would do. Finally, they took one of the vans offered to them and traded it in on the BBV.
