Christmas eve meal and then Christmas day lunch?

What the hell happened to Jon's getting the kids?

Didn't she say that she had Eve and he had Day? What, she's gonna make them eat leftovers for Xmas day lunch then let Jon pick them up stuffed and cranky for 'his' Xmas dinner?

Which is the lie?

And here is a HUGE question --- does Jon have to do the pick up and delivery, or is she required to drive them one way?

Oh, so hard to tell with her......

Beth! OMG! I had Dancerina too! Thanks for the memories/link! I also had Velvet, the doll whose hair would grow. All my cousins had Chrissy. Ah, the memories are making my heart swell.

I never had Dancerina, but I loved her! It's funny - I had no idea what doll you were talking about, but when I saw her picture I instantly remembered her. I'm guessing one of my cousins had her because I know I played with her and loved her to pieces. I had baby Chrissy and she was my all-time favorite doll. I think I was in first grade when I got her. I can still remember coming down the stairs on Christmas morning, and there she sat waiting for me. She's still somewhere in my parents' attic. I saved my dolls for my daughter, but she has never been a baby doll girl - she only likes Barbies and stuffed animals.
Here's one . . . does anyone remember the doll that had "peach skin"? I can't remember her name but she had soft, fuzzy skin. That's one doll that I don't still have, but she was also one of my favorites.

Aren't the the kids going to Jon's on Christmas? That is probably why she is cooking her "big" meal on Christmas Eve. It has nothing to do with being "thrifty".

I love pineapple casserole. Some call it escalloped pineapple. It is intended as a side dish (it goes well with ham) but it is so very sweet I eat it as my dessert. It has canned pineapple, sugar, white bread cubes, sugar, some recipes call for vanilla, others don't, sugar, eggs, and something else I'm not remembering... oh yeah, sugar. One lady in our church brings it to every church supper, and the pan is always empty before half the people make it to that point in the line.

Dmasy, thanks! I actually don't shop at Whole Foods too often because of the expense. Ditto Central Market, though I LOVE Central Market. Foodie heaven.

For the Christmas Eve dinner, though, I will have to go to Whole Foods. There's stuff I need they don't sell in my store up the street.

Kate gave the following ground-breaking money-saving tips in that blog entry:

1. Eat leftovers, it saves money. (Who doesn't know this?)

2. Check your paper for coupons. (Who doesn't know this? Where does she think people get a majority of their coupons?)

3. Let people bring things. (Yes, but in Kate's world, if she had friends or family come over, she'd have them bring EVERYTHING and then act exhausted and take credit for it all.)

4. Use a grocery delivery service. (Actually quite expensive and not available in all areas.)

5. Check CC for coupons! (REALLY? COUPON CABIN HAS---COUPONS? Isn't this the most basic thing she can possibly say in these blog entries? Can't anyone say that?)

I went "big" grocery shopping today. Subtotal was $300 but my coupons got it down to $248. Not my best, but pretty good. My dad taught me about coupons. He made a lot of money, but clipped them every Sunday and never went to the store without them.

Kate is on strike to-day because it's been so years and Jon isn't around to wrap all the darn gifts she grifted for the kids.Probably shopping for her own Santa gifts and will be bitchin' that she has to wrap all her own gifts the kids paid for.

bearswife, isn't haggis the lining of the sheeple, oops, sheeps' stomach? te he he. Leave them alone and they'll go home, wagging their tails behind them....

Kate is a twit, you're right. She didn't ask the kids shit, much less GENTLY ask them (she's never gently done anything).

She's doing the big dinner on the eve because she doesn't have them Christmas Day. She's such a fake, I swear.

And whoever pointed out the lack of logic on what she said about leftovers: spot on. You could still have LOs no matter what day you made the meal. She's so dumb it hurts.

Does anybody go to the CC site and read others' blog pieces there? What are they like? Do they just tell stories too, or do they have a purpose that serves the company?

This is kind of like going to school every Monday to hear about the teacher's weekend. What has been learned? That's not going to help you when the standardized tests roll around.
Going to the grocery/retail store is the test of
how you're doing with couponing. If one of the teachers isn't teaching, you can fail the tests.

I would love to know what CC told Kate their expectations were of her blog pieces. To chat or to teach? To draw people in so they will stay long enough to read the rest of the info there? What?

I'd like to tell a Christmas tale, if I may. As many know, we are huge troop suppoers in our house. We do all we can to help military and vets here and abroad.

My huband works with a young man who recently returned from Kuwait. He is in the National Guard. Long story short, this kid (he's in his early 20's) is hurting financially. It is so bad that he couldn't afford shoes for where they work (dress code). Well a few weeks ago, my husband told this young man to meet him at the mall. He had him pick out a pair of boots and my husband paid for them. This young man was so grateful, he thanked my husband over and over. My husband, being a humble man, simply replied "After all that you have done for our country and for us, it's the least I can do." We are not rich, not even weathlty, but when it comes to doing something for someone else, my husband does what he can to help.

Kate, if you read this, take a lesson from my husband. Giving is so much better than receiving. My husband felt really good about doing what he did for that young soldier. Who knows, Kate, maybe you will change like the Grinch did if you actually did something for someone else.

And, I don't get how leftovers save you money or at least that much money. Any which way you slice it you need to eat a certain amount of food whether they are leftovers or not. You could cook a big ham and then break it into three microwave meals, or you could buy three small hams and cook them for each meal. But it's all the same price per pound. You save a tiny amount because you're not cooking and using your utilities three times, but then again a big ham takes longer to cook.

Now it absolutely saves time and energy for sure. But money? Not exactly. Her logic yet again astounds.

Also color me baffled what this has to do with couponing. The only thing I've gotten out of these blogs are basically, No S&^% Sherlock.

Pity Party said...

Didn't she just say she wasn't sure she would get around to letting them buy for each other, what with the endless wrapping and all. Seems like she could make a store out of a closet and let them shop at home. Where was Chris when these marathon shopping expeditions took place. Does Bed, Bath and Beyond sell toys?

What was that CC blog? Isn't she supposed to be directing people to THEIR site instead of the newspaper and Peapod? Oh yeah hey while you're at it CC might have a coupon or two that you could use as well. You know the people that allow me to post my personal blogs so I'll get more press. Yeah I work for them but not for money. They do coupons! Who knew?

I am thinking her big Christmas dinner might go the way of TG, never to be seen nor heard of again.

Like who believes KT or anybody for that matter would ask their kids' permission to change a tradition. And didn't Milo just call her out and remind that she was supposed to be putting a surprise in the popcorn. Oh yeah that's my tradition but wouldn't you know I forgot this one time and heard about it x8. Oops.

Hello - you don't have any traditions. It was all for the show. That was your brand, remember. You can drop the facade now. It's okay.

hey jude -- Haggis isn't the lining of a sheep's stomach, it's cooked (traditionally, anyway) in a sheep's stomach. It's a sheep's liver and lights (lungs), sometimes the tongue, chopped up and mixed with oats, blood, and seasonings, stuffed in the stomach, and cooked. It makes a sort of "pudding". It's akin to scrapple. I tasted it once. UGH!! I know some people love it, though. It's a traditional dish of Scotland.

Kate's "traditional" Christmas dinner doesn't sound very traditional to me. The ham, maybe, but not many of the accompaniments. I've never heard of pineapple casserole. Sounds extremely sweet, especially when added to sweet potato casserole and pies.

One traditional dish in Lancaster County is pig's stomach...hog maw. You either hate it or you love it, and if you love it, it's most likely you grew up on it. You buy the stomach from the butcher, fill it with potatoes and sausage, onions, celery and seasoning, tie it up with butcher's string, use a needle to poke holes in it so the stomach doesn't burst, and bake it. The best part is the actual skin, when it's baked and nicely browned. I can remember my grandmother always asked, "Do you want more inside or outside?" We always fought over the skin...

To Posting Anonymously, that is such an inspiring story. Thank you for sharing it.

Not too long ago I was at an all you can eat buffet restaurant where you pay before you eat. As I was just starting through the line, I saw a soldier standing just past the register, just sort of looking around seeming uncomfortable. Seems he had come to town without his wallet and his friend had already driven off for about an hour. People were asking the cashier in whispers if there was a problem. Once the people in line heard what was going on, you should have seen the people waving their credit cards and dollar bills toward the cashier saying, "I'd be honored to buy that soldier lunch!" It was a very heartwarming thing to witness. The "winner" invited him to eat with their group.

I think we as a nation have learned our lesson about how important these men and women are to us.

Why is she acting like she just created leftovers. Didn't she feed her kids eggplant casserole three days in row until they were near tears begging for something else. Oh you want something else huh. Okay, here you go have some egg dinner. A complete four course egg meal topped off with you guessed it egg custard for dessert. I guess Top Chef would have called that eggs 4 ways. And behold these dozens eggs were all gathered from her very own hen house. That's some might fine laying hens.

Kate's cooking is beyond mild boggling. Considering a ham is already cooked and is just basically warmed up. Last Easter for a crowd I did a ham and leg of lamb. I wrapped the ham and heated on the smoker on low while the lamb and scalloped potatoes got the oven space. She has no skills. Candied yams can be prepped the day before and just stick in the oven. What kids really care what is for xmas dinner, like they really remember from one year to the next. Is she bragging that Jon doesn't get the kids for Christmas Eve or Christmas day. That's what she makes it sound like. After last years disappearing act for 2 wks after Christmas I can't believe he'd be okay with that. Maybe Jon has them for a while Christmas Eve, but she has out do him and fill them up with "her" better dinner in the afternoon. She's trying to act sentimental, but it didn't bother her in the least to pack them up and leave all their Xmas presents behind last year so they could work in Australia, against Jon's wishes.

On Xmas memories I remember getting a doll with a nurse kit. It must have been from one of my aunts, there are pictures of me w/ the little nurses hat, sticking the thermometer in the doll's butt. I also remember a Chatty Cathy doll, she was pretty tall. There was also a barbie like doll that had hair the "grew". We used to have big Polish Christmas Eves w/ Aunt/Uncles Grandparents they called it Wigilia. No meat, lots of fish and pierogies. I remember my grandmother coming around to each of us with a kiss and we broke off a piece of the host like wafer that they had blessed at church. My brother and I were part of the youngest grandchildren - there were over 70, my mother and her twin brother being the second to youngest. I don't ever remember getting real gifts from the grandparents on my mothers side, maybe $5. They were old, poor farmers and in their 80's 30 years ago when they died. Kate has no clue about extended family. No way will she spend the next two weeks home alone with those kids until they go back to school in the new year. She and Steve must be heading out early next week, right after Xmas.

Right. But it may be that what is common sense and no-brainers to us, she may consider huge revelations (or innovations) because she's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. Who but Kate wouldn't be embarrassed to suggest using left-over scraps of wrapping paper for small gifts? I mean, come on!

Yes, I remember the complaints about the eggplant parmesan when they were out at Farmer Henry's place. Kate planned chicken cacciatore, but Cara voted no very tearfully, almost desperately. Kate threatened another night of eggplant parmesan. So chicken cacciatore was served. The portions were so tiny that it looked like it was going to last them 3 more days - at least. I remember her plopping it into their divided plates with a big ol' spoon. It might have smelled and tasted wonderful, but it looked very unappetizing.

That is such a great story!! Now I have tears in my eyes. We really are such a great nation the way we support our troops.

The Support Organization we belong also provide support for some British troops when they come through our area. Every time they provide services for them, we receive thank you notes from them and most of them always say the same thing; that they don't receive that kind of support or thanks at home in the UK.

This is why we need to keep doing what we're doing for our military people so maybe other nations will catch on and show some appreciation for what their military does.

I have a 'support the soldiers' story too, but with a twist. There's a local organization that supports, especially those deployed to forward operating bases (mostly Afghanistan) where there aren't PXs/commissaries really set up yet. Every once in a while, they put out the word to fill up flat rate boxes with toiletries, socks, necessities like that. (The postal clerks laugh at how heavy those boxes are!) But other times, they work with chaplains who want to build goodwill with the locals. So we send school supplies, candy, etc. This year, they asked for warm weather items. I bought a bunch of socks, gloves, etc. I crochet (big nerd, yes) and had all this furry yarn I got at Dollar Tree that's usually quite expensive (Kate's book was there too, haha). That stuff is hell to work with! But I made a furry scarf with each little skein, and some hats with normal yarn. I wrote a note to the chaplain, saying if it wasn't appropriate, they could give them to the troops instead. I prayed as I made each item, that the recipient would be as blessed as I felt to make it, and would be safe and healthy. Do you know how humbled I felt, mailing that huge box overseas? To think that maybe a little color and softness could be put into the life of someone who lives in poverty in harsh conditions, wears drab clothing, covers their head/face, etc? These items would be worn under that clothing, but they would know. I was so excited and just really, really touched. I know he'll let me know how it goes; they always do.

Also, about 5 years ago, my friend started a program in our area to provide handmade scarves and hats to the homeless. I just gave her 11 more scarves and 4 hats. In only 5 short years, due to the efforts of many caring people who make 11 scarves or whatever, over TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND items have been distributed. Every item counts. Every item is made with love. Imagine little scout troops cutting out fleece, or little old ladies in their knitting groups, and you get the idea.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Kate, because I know you read these posts.

And Merry Christmas, everyone! May the peace and joy of the season fill each of your hearts, families, and homes!

PJ's momma, that's wonderful. Knitting is a skill that offers so much to the knitter and the recipient.

Mom knitted up a storm. She made us all sweaters every year for Christmas, along with hats, mittens or gloves, and Dad always got woolly socks that reminded him he was a Scot.

Anyway, before Mom died, she had purchased a whole bunch of buffalo yarn to knit another very, very warm sweater for my brother. No coat required when he had that on, even in Northern Canada! I still have that buffalo yarn. I cannot find one person who knits at all, much less big bulky things. So, it's just sitting there going to waste. It breaks my heart.

Your post inspires me to find someone who wants a Totes carton full of buffalo yarn. It is very fragile to work with, but once it knits up, it's tough as nails and lasts forever. This person will have to live very, very "up north", or else
it would just be too hot to wear.

I also have 2 never-used twin sized Hudson Bay blankets I need to find a home for. I don't remember how many points they are, but they are WAY too hot for this area.

I guess I have a post-Christmas project now. Finding homes for warm things. FREE! Maybe Kate would be interested now? ;-)

Just so they know the way it works? Likely Roma Downey had zero to do with any of this and may not even know it was sent to Kate. Marketing, when they do this, will typically send out a bunch of media packets with free copies of the product to dozens of celebs, sometimes hundreds. They're just hoping for one or two tweets or mentions somewhere out of all those. They likely send this product to a variety of celebs with kids. Roma Downey is not sitting there in some office looking up celebs with kids, their addresses, packaging her product and running it to the post office to send it off to Kate. Please, that's for the mediocre. Sigh.

Anne, thanks, you're too kind. I hope admin doesn't mind me posting this here.

The recipe is from the Better Homes and Gardens New Grilling Book. Every recipe I've tried out of it has been good, some amazingly so. I found the book at Half Price Books for two bucks! This one is a favorite of my husband. He requests it a lot. I thought it sounded difficult and easy to mess up, but I've never messed it up.

Double Peanut-Crusted Chops

1/3 c. Creamy peanut butter
1/3 c. Pineapple juice
2Tbsp. finely chopped green onion
1Tbsp. soy sauce
1 Tbsp. honey
1 tsp. grated fresh ginger or 1/4 tsp. dry ground ginger (I use the dry)
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
Several dashes bottled hot pepper sauce (do this to your own taste, of course)
1/3 c. finely chopped honey roasted peanuts
2 Tbsp fine dry bread crumbs
1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
4 boneless pork sirloin chops, cut 3/4 inch thick
4 ounces Chinese egg noodles or dried angel hair pasta

For peanut sauce, in a small saucepan heat peanut butter until melted; gradually whisk in juice, green onion, soy sauce, honey, ginger, mustard and hot pepper sauce. Set aside 2 Tbsp of the peanut sauce. Keep remaining sauce warm.

For crust, in a small bowl combine peanuts, bread crumbs, and sesame seeds. Set aside.

For a charcoal grill, grill chops on the rack of an uncovered grill directly over medium coals for six minutes. Turn chops, brush with the reserved peanut sauce. Sprinkle chops with crust mixture. With the back of a metal spatula, press crust into mixture onto chops. Cover; grill for 5-7 minutes more or until chops are 160 degrees in the center. For a gas grill, preheat and reduce to medium. Place chops on grill, cover, grill as above.

Meanwhile cook noodles according to package directions; drain. Toss with remaining warm peanut sauce. Serve with chops.

That was long, sorry!

My house didn't look as nice when my daughter was young. I put off doing or didn't do stuff that wasn't necessary and I didn't have time for. Instead, I spent a hell of a lot of time on the floor playing play kitchen, coloring, board games, you name it. I don't regret anything I put off or the time I spent with her. She's about a year away from leaving home and I'm thankful we're very close.

It goes fast, Kate. You might be happy to hear that now, but it'll be hard when they're running out the door and not looking back. You'll have all the time in the world then.

So to refresh, K8 is reheating a cooked ham in a crockpot, and serving sweet and starchy sides. Yummy. Followed by sweet rolls and hot chocolate for breakfast. And then a reheating of dinner unless the real reality is that she's only reheating those leftovers herself as the kids will get to be with their dad on Christmas Day.

The subterfuge is mindboggling. Could she just not say "This year we are having our Christmas menu on Christmas Eve since the the children are with their Dad the next day". No, she has to to do some stupid riff about asking their permission to change 'traditions'. Stupid bitch, YOU are the reason all the traditions had to change. Dallas Lady, your menus sound delightful.Would you share the double peanut crusted pork chop one? I love Taco salad, too!

Charliecat, sorry for all the sadness in your life right now.Hoping you will find some peace and happiness in the Christmas season.Wishing you and your family a happier New Year.

Did any of you have a kid-sized walking doll growing up? I got one whan I was about 10 yrs. old, long, red curly hair, blue eyes and about 3 ft. tall and when you held her hand she walked with you.

How pathetic. All her relatives live in the area and yet no word about celebrating Christmas Eve or Christmas Day with them. I guess Steve, Ashley, Jamie are celebrating with their families. So it will be just Kate and her kids on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Very sad indeed. She has to stress all the presents she is giving the kids because she doesn't have any family to invite over for the kids to celebrate with. She is distracting her kids with numerous packages because there will be no aunts, uncles, cousins, grandsparents, family friends surrounding them around the tree or table.

And who does Kate think she is kidding. The kids are going to Jon's for the afternoon/early evening for their big Christmas Day meal. So there is no need for Kate to even discuss with her kids the need to change the plan of NOT having her cook the big Christmas Day meal.

That was all before the divorce was final and Jon still had rights to the house. Once the divorce was final and Kate bled him dry...house and all....she banished him from the property faster than she could shake a stick at him.
************************************************Ewwww, was that the same stick that Jon told her to "take out"? ;)

Yes. And once he was gone, she promptly shoved it back up there, where it remains today.

*******

Mine wasn't a walking doll, but I had one about
3 feet tall.

I wanted her more than I wanted to breathe. She could NOT be bought with cash, only with TV stamps (like S&H Green stamps) where we found her. So, Mom had to save up. When she saved up enough and got that doll for me for a big Christmas surprise (instead of the rest of the stuff she could have got for herself or others) I was no longer interested in the doll. I played with her on occasion, but she mostly stood in the corner. She remained there through my college days. Oh my!

When I was an adult, she had been moved to the top of my parent's closet. I went to get her because large dolls were selling for a bundle at the time. She wasn't there. I asked Mom, and she had given it to GoodWill about a year earlier. Oh well. Somebody enjoyed her. She was hardly used at all.

Is pineapple casserole common in PA? I asked a relative if they ever heard of it and she went completely blank.

+++++++++++++++++++++=

I've never heard of it, and I've lived here all my life.

You've never heard of ham, green beans and potatoes? I didn't think that was a regional thing, but it very well might be.

Ham and Green Beans

3-4 lb bone-in ham, uncooked
1-2 lb green beans, trimmed
5-6 potatoes, peeled and cut into large pieces
salt and pepper

1. In a large stock pot, cover the ham with water. Boil for 2 1/2-3 hours. Add extra water to cover as needed.

2. Add green beans to the pot and cook for 20-30 minutes. Remove the ham and add the potatoes. Cut or shred the meat while the potatoes cook until tender, about 30 minutes. Add the meat back to the pot and heat until warmed through. Let simmer until ready to serve.

You can also make it in a crockpot. Ham first, then potatoes, then green beans, about a cup of water, high for 4 hours. So easy, and so good.

There was one Christmas present I wanted for 2 years but I never got. It was a hat. It was Dutch-inspired, choice of green or red wool felt with little felt shapes sewn on it. The main attraction to me as a 6-7 year old was the braids that hung down from the sides of it. Blonde braids, but I would have been happy with any color, really. Every time we went to the store to look for one, they were "out", and then they just quit stocking them after 2 years. I was devastated. My poor mom even looked for pattern to sew me one. No luck. She knit me a new winter hat instead, which worked fine.

hey jude, thanks! I posted the peanut crusted pork chop recipe a bit above.

My best friend is from PA, and she eats this ham and beans all the time. Usually she chooses to substitute a smoked pork chop for the ham, though.
She lays the pork chop on top of the beans and potatoes and just lets it slow cook all day. She eats it day after day until it's gone.

hey jude said...

Well, that sounds better, green beans.I was thinking baked brown beans for some reason. She also said sweet potatoes, also starchy.I have never heard of this or the pineapple one.

We have turkey and all the sides Christmas and ham and scalloped potatoes, salads, etc. for New Years with perogies, yum. Haggis and hog ma, you can keep them, yuk.

fidosmommy, my walking doll was beautiful, but too big to play with really. She stood and looked pretty a lot and my brothers used to dress her in their pajamas and sweaters for fun.

Our Moms did think of us at Christmas, and never did she complain about wrapping gifts. She always did them so nicely, even with cheap paper some years, done with love.

If the beans and potatoes are on the bottom, don't they get mushy? That's been my experience and the reason I put the ham on the bottom. Smoked pork chops sound very good. I'll have to try that. The kids might revolt, though, since it's a deviation from the original!

fidosmommy,
I wonder if your buffalo yarn is what my big cowichan sweater is made from? My FIL gave it to me before he died. He said it was made for him a long time ago by an aboriginal woman. Real ones are hard to come by. They are SO warm, even when wet - but mine is super thick and stiff as a board, so it's hard to wear. I do love it though - keeps me warm on those cold Manitoba mornings.

I knit and crochet, too, PJ's Momma. Does anyone else?

Dallas lady, thanks for the reipe. Can't wait to try it out- yum.I love you.

Has anyone heard from Hippie chick? Hope you are ok,HC.I tried to e-mail you, but I can't get through?????Hope you have a great Christmas with your family, love you too and miss your snarkieness here.Is that a word?

I think I will postpone my video watching for a while longer.Too soon yet, bearswife.DH and I are wrapping gifts and listening to Rita McNeil cd- love her and we have fun wrappping and fighting over the tape.

The Bear loves them with eggs, says his mom always did it that way.

bearswife, you reading my mind again? I was just trying to spell cowichan in my head.My mom knit all my family a sweater, mine had horses on it and it was pink with black and white, still have it, but it was always soft. My Dad's was the curling one and it was stiff and crunchy like. I crochet, must be a canuck thing.I like baked beans and ham,but not with sweet potatoes.

HollyMo said...

Jude, I had to google it. Mine is cream, grey and white with a snowflake pattern. Too thick to curl in, I could never get out of the hack.

Kate never had any traditions. They did whatever looked good on camera because it was considered, "family entertainment," and or just "cute."

She may bake sticky buns and what have you but at first she said she always made them from scratch, yet only time we saw her make it, she used that Pillsbury can stuff.

I absolutely can't stand Kate but this statement is just pathetic!

"On one of the Christmas episodes did Kate say she also served a salad? I've never known anyone to serve beans with ham...I could be wrong completely but just sounds like a throw in item is all.

Ham and beans is a staple in the Northeast. Gawd sometimes this website just gets out of hand!!!!

Lillysmom there's no reason to be rude, the person said they could be wrong, and someone already politely corrected them.

And yes I can vouch as well that ham and baked beans is a staple in the Northeast. In fact i never remember eating ham with anything else, except maybe scalloped potato. But now that I'm an adult I don't like it at all, not even really a big fan of ham except a little cut up in omelets. In fact, a lot of the stuff Kate says she makes brings back dormant memories for me of things I don't eat anymore but encountered growing up. And reminds me WHY I don't eat that stuff anymore, no offense meant. :)

I almost feel sorry for her. What a fraud she has become. Those poor children!

Kate has been blogging about food, and traditional meals. Some who are not from the area have asked if these are common foods here, such as pineapple casserole. I don't think that this means a website is getting out of hand.

I agree with your comment #61, 100%.

I totally agree. There have been many questions about all this food because so much of it is quite regional. Heck I don't blame a few "what the hells" over some of this stuff because frankly, some of it doesn't strike a lot of people as good for various reasons. The fact that I don't see half the food I grew up with out here, just suggests how very regional the food I ate was--and I didn't even know it at the time. What may seem normal to you because you are from there, can be very foreign to someone not from there. They have a right to ask about it.

One thing I don't miss, a small town Northeasterners attempt at homemade tacos. Boy I hadn't a CLUE back then! I've come a long way.

Last year I donated 40ish crocheted hats to the local NICU for the preemie babies.

I was not sure what I was going to do this year for a project, but when I took my tiny Chihuahua in to be spayed, I took her homemade "cuddle sack" and her special homemade fleece blanket in with her (yes I am THAT dog mom).

The surgery techs all loved the sack and blanket and said they were so neat, so after we dropped off my baby I decided what my new project would be. My husband and I went and bought fleece and I am making cuddle sacks and blankets for my vet's office.

They are a 24/7 hospital/er/icu as well as seeing regular patients and they also board cats/dogs, so I thought other dogs that are in surgery would like a little extra comfort of a fleece sack or blanket...particularly any Chihuahuas that come through will appreciate them, since they all seem to want to be extra warm and snuggle into/under covers.

My girl was at the vet clinic for about 42 hours due to some minor complications and I called to check on her every 3 hours (this was fine with them..I wasn't bothering them lol) the entire time she was there. Even during the night, I woke up and called to check on her.

Poor Shoka gets banished to the dog house for doing what dogs do...eating food that is left out where they can get it. I did notice that Kate said it was her fault, but I can't help but wonder if that was only because of the backlash she had already seen here and elsewhere. I'm fairly certain her post was addressing that issue since suddenly she was watching him and no mention of the dog house was made.

Marie said...

No CS, things are all good not offended. I don't eat ham because I'm allergic to pork so what people serve with it...I don't have much of a clue. Apparently it's beans. Haha. Now I know.

I feel sorry for Kate's lonely Christmas. But I don't feel sorry for someone who brought in on all by themselves. Pity the fool? Nah...
