Are the veggie burgers and organic healthy eating facade getting to Kate?

Kate lets loose at McDonalds

Just before Kate jetted off to Las Vegas, she was spotted in the Lancaster area at none other than ... McDonalds!

According to a very sweet employee who works at the Lititz, PA McDonalds (via Facebook):

XXXX XXX
Celebrity day at work....just served Kate Gosselin!!!!

 · 13 hours ago via BlackBerry ·

Kate has spent the better part of the past year and beyond constantly talking about health food. In fact even today she was bragging about a veggie burger and some rice and sweet potatoes. Maybe she cannot keep up with the lies anymore and just needed to chow down on a Big Mac? We don't blame her. Dear, Kate: Quit the act and admit it, you just want a nice juicy burger sometimes like the rest of us mediocre.

To put it simply:

Blech!:

Yummy, real food!!!!

All I can do is laugh, really. Laugh at how hard she pushed her organic self and her organic food. Slaving over organic dinner from Henry's. This past years over-obsessively healthy eating of organic this, organic that, vegetables, salads...when the cold hard truth is like a lot of people, Kate has her own mediocre weakness of America's number 1 fast-food joint, McDonalds.

I can see her statements of, "90% of what we bring into the house is organic, we packed all these vitamins and pills for Disney World because they wouldn't be eating organic." it appears to be nothing but fake.

The kids have eaten out many times, the kids have had pizzas, burgers I am sure, gold fish, gummy fruit snacks, Chinese and all.

My question is why, WHY lie about being organic? It doesn't make one a terrible mother if you aren't. Bet it was all a ploy to be seen as super or whatever.

Wait, wait...I can jsut hear Kate's latest claim: "The McDonald's wasn't for ME!" Please.

That's what I find the most hysterical about this. While a post was in the can about how wonderfully delicious dry disgusting looking veggie burgers are and you too can be as wonderful as Kate if you just eat health food like her, and there was the real Kate, chowing down Ronald McDonald's fast food. Haha.

Kate, you're human. your stomach growls and only a Big Mac can cure it. It's okay.

KmartSmart said... 4

LMAO.....I'm no junk food junkie and love some good healthy food, but that picture of food she posted made me want to hurl. I bet that friend who came over will be certain to eat before ever going to Kate's house again. That just looks so....nasty.

Marie said... 5

What's the red-glob looking stuff on the plate supposed to be? I thought she served just fries, salad and veggie patty.

Now, I'll go for a veggie burger on occasion or even a nice vegetable lasagna but I think I would rather well, to put it nicely, eat something more attractive looking than that!

fidosmommy said... 6

I actually like veggie burgers. The one she is
displaying on her plate doesn't look all that appetizing to me, but as a rule, I like them. Good thing, because I was a vegetarian for 13 years. The only reason I don't still eat them is because they are packed with salt that fresh ground beef doesn't have.

I can honestly say I have not ordered one single thing from McDonald's since 1985. I promised my sister I would forever and always boycott them. It's a very long story (has nothing to do with food quality or the fact that it's fast food) but I do admit there have been times when a good ol' Big Mac would hit the spot. I have to go grab a burger from Wendy's those days. Not the same.

Rearranging the Deck Chairs on the Titanic said... 7

God, I want that Big Mac. There are healthy foods at McDonald's, though, so the Witch-Almighty could have had a salad (I don't think they are organic, though), a fruit and yogurt parfait, and a bottled water. Also, I saw some people on twitter calling Khate's Kruise the... K*nt Kruise. In addition, I doubt that many people at all will sign up for the idiot's cruise.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 8

The pic above is exactly why many people hate health food so much. Because any time they've had it it's been so poorly made it can't possibly taste good.

One of my favorite meals ever is marinated chicken breast on a big salad with a little olive oil/red wine vinegar. But before I knew how to make it so it actually tasted yummy, I never would have been into that stuff.

LancNative said... 9

What was she doing in Lititz? When was this? There's nothing in Lititz - not a shopping mall, no outlet stores, not close to school, nothing other than the Wilbur Chocolate Factory and the Lancaster airport right down the road. Could she have flown out of Lancaster to BWI on a commuter express?

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 10

LancNative, that's EXACTLY what I thought. This McD's is only a few miles from the Lancaster airport.

She probably knew of it, was really craving it, and swung by to get her McyD's fix before hopping a puddle jumper in Lancaster. God I hope it wasn't a private jet.

LancNative said... 11

"God, I want that Big Mac."

=====
You and me both. I was watching the diners and drive-ins show tonight thinking, I need some of that food NOW. Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. I deserve a break today!

url said... 12

Kart stated she would take a job at McDonald's. Maybe she ate a Big Mac and large fries after filling out her application. At least the veggie burger is coordinated with her granite countertop.

Not even that far. It's three minutes away. About a mile.
She by-passed Saladworks in favor of McDonalds? Funny!

Well, I like veggie burgers, but no on else in my house will touch them. I do find they're too high in carbs and sodium, though, and I'd rather have a good chicken burger, or grilled chicken breast. Much tastier, higher protein, and overall better for you.

While I do occasionally have a burger at home, I have to say that I very rarely eat at McDonalds or Burger King, etc. It's just never been my thing. When I was growing up, we'd rather have some good pizza over crappy fast food. The only thing I've ever craved is their fries and I maybe have two or three only once or twice a year. Seriously, I'm not kidding! I just steal a couple on the rare event that I'm there with the kids. I can't even remember the last time that was.

So, as someone that really doesn't eat fast food much at all, I can tell you for a fact that when your body isn't used to it, you just can't eat that stuff without feeling like crap and possibly getting ill. The last fast food burger and fries I had must have been about five or six years ago when we were on a road trip with the kids. Before that, it must have been another year or two. Ugh, it really made me ill both times. I'd rather stop for iced coffees and eat my Cliff bars when on the road.

So, I find it odd that Khate would go to McDonalds right before a plane trip. There's no way she could eat that crap if she isn't used to it and the LAST place you want to be when feeling sick is a plane!

Katie Cry-duh said... 15

Maybe Kate can address this in her Kate + Rumors column. "LIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ate a quarter pounder with cheese not a Big Mac!!!!!!!!!!!" She must have looked beautiful eating the Big Mac with her big ol' horse mouth wide open. Anyone know if Steve went to LV with the lying liar?

Carrying this over from the cruise post:

silimom said... 89

NLAN - Thanks for the lunch pic. I have to say that is the most unappetizing looking plate of food I have ever seen. And as someone said earlier those aren't shoe string they are steak cut.

---------------------------

No problem, silimom. I'm glad Admin put the unappetizing pic here for everyone to see and enjoy, lol. I agree with you about the fries. I had the same exact thought when I saw the photo but her website post said she made shoe string fries. I thought, "Huh? Those are steak fries!" Khate is just so dense about EVERYTHING!

-------------------

Don't forget her that she'll claim they got the date wrong, so that makes the whole story bogus.

As far as Steve, does anyone think Khate can actually handle getting herself to an airport, checked in and through the airport, on board, get her luggage, get a taxi, go to a hotel, and check in without Steve or someone doing it for her? Has she ever traveled anywhere alone?

Just Stringing Along said... 18

Well, the two in the back on the left might be shoestring!

Katie Cry-duh said... 19

The kids must be pissed that Slutmom got to go to McDonalds. While the little darlings get to eat such healthy foods as organic fluff, mom gets the good stuff. And because of her lies, the kids can't go to McDonald's without it exposing her lies. Therefore they don't get to go on her watch.

Marie said... 20

Speaking as someone who has never liked fries, or even potatoes really, does Kate not know the difference between steak fries and shoe strings?

Maybe she started out making shoe string fries but then maybe it just became too hard for her, so the faster way as to do steak cut.

I also came to the conclusion maybe Kate will go out of her way to other towns for her "habit" of hiding fast food because she isn't going to come clean on how non-organic she really is? Just a thought.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 21

It's also quite calculated for her to go to what a local described as a small town with NOTHING there but an airport.

She figures who will twitter or fb or take a pic of me here?? Way safer than going to her local McDonalds or a McDonalds in Vegas, Philly, NYC, LA, etc.

HAHHAHA, karma.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 22

I think we just figured out why Kate is so exhausted.

She's leading a double life.

Seriously, that must get exhausting to say and do one thing when you think people are watching then have to sneak around to do a completely different thing when people aren't, or you think they aren't. I get it now.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 23

So, as someone that really doesn't eat fast food much at all, I can tell you for a fact that when your body isn't used to it, you just can't eat that stuff without feeling like crap and possibly getting ill.

&&&&&

Makes you wonder doesn't it??? Except for In and Out, I also don't eat fast food and have the same experience. After Supersize Me came out I stopped eating fast food cold turkey. I hadn't been to McDonalds since then except once last year when I was starving and it was the only place around, so I got an Asian salad thing. When I've had fast food since then it makes me feel bloated, tired, gassy, yucky. It depletes me of energy. Even Subway does this.

I'll go to In and Out maybe two or three times a year. That's the only place that doesn't make me ill. Sure enough, their whole thing is fresh, pure, daily ingredients. Did I mention the documentary Forks Over Knives? Check it out.

Marie said... 24

Sure does make me wonder. In and Out came to UT finally and it's the biggest thing around. But back where I grew up, aside from Ill. it was the place to go in Cali.

I have yet to make it through watching Super Size Me without grossing out. Maybe one of these days I will. I'm not a runner but I lift weights, three or four times a week. If Kate is such a health expert she should know that even if you work out the second you eat fast you kind of lose the purpose of burning calories by eating the ones you just lost. But, whatever.

Marie said... 25

Oh and don't worry, when her kids become teenagers, probably the boys, they will eventually "discover" McDonalds. I'd like to see her keep them from that! Have teenagers, will eat.

Great, now I'm hungry. Oh well, classes start soon so at least I'll have an excuse for a late night snack.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean no one's following you. :)

HA Mediocre McDonalds from the woman who claims her kids never ate there..while there was a McD's cup in the background on her show.

Kate is a phony, fake - say whatever at the moment to make you look good kind of person. She has nothing real about her anymore. heck even on her show she was more real. (and her show was all bullshit too) At least she was honest about letting her bitch flag fly though. This new sugary sweet Kate is vomit inducing.

I am one of those people who are upfront about everything. I'm pretty much an open book. That includes sharing my struggles and flaws. I never understood the type of person who lies about their life. It seems exhausting. Kate isn't even good at it. She forgets her lies from day to day. When you lie so much that you can easily see the glaringly obvious bullshit maybe its time to at least write your lies down so you don't look like an ass by by always getting "caught". Well I guess why would she care? Her fans don't. They make more excuses for Kate than Kate herself.

Kate screams organic while her grocery cart is full of cheetos. She screams organic while making fluffernetter sandwiches. Don't even get me started on organic lollipops!! Her kids don't know what doritos are yet ate junk food often from what I saw on the show. I wonder if Kate even knows who she is anymore. She's so fake she may be fooling herself even.

I will admit that this is the only healthy Menu Monday that she has posted.

I think that she should have put the veggie paddies on a bun or sandwich thin. It would add finer and healthy carbs to the meal. She could also add a sauce to them.

I love sweat potato fries and I think they belong in every meal. I am not a fan of avocado salad. I am allergic to raw avocado so I cant eat anything that contains it. i do use avocado in baking though.

"My question is why, WHY lie about being organic? It doesn't make one a terrible mother if you aren't. Bet it was all a ploy to be seen as super or whatever."

The answer is simple. "Organic" is part of her branding. She's been angling for sponsorship/spokesperson-type gigs for organic products since the show started. An insider once quoted her years ago as saying she was surprised that no one had approached her yet about being a spokesperson for some diaper rash creme (or some such). It fits, doesn't it?

I have not eaten at McD's since the kids were little.

I can make a better burger at home for my family.

Anyone see the movie, "Supersize It"?

FL Mama said... 34

Is it just me... do the sweet potato fries on that plate look raw to any of you? No wonder she was able to whip this up so quickly!

Hoosier Girl said... 35

Kate's sweet potato fries look just like mine from the frozen food aisle in a bag marked Ore-Ida. The veggie burger looks like those frozen ones you can buy and zap in the microwave ...

This meal must have taken all of 20 minutes (waiting for the fries to bake)to prepare.

Woe is the life of a 'working single mother' of 8.

Maybe I missed it since I haven't had caffeine yet but what did Kate order at Mickey D's? Do we know if she had a Big Mac (gosh, that looks good - haven't had one in a long time) or did she go with a salad? Doesn't matter really, it's the hypocrisy -- but I'm curious.

TLC stinks said... 37

Admin, any way to find out what she ordered? Could have just been coffee?

khater said... 38

I don't get why she needs to make is such a big deal. Does she not realize she would be MORE relatable if she was honest about her eating habits.
I will admit, I am a bit of a local organic food snob. The meals we eat are usually homemade, from scratch as much as possible, and food in its 'original whole form' from local dealers and mostly organic. I study food security, urban ag and env ed in university.
HOWEVER, I would never say that we ALWAYS do this and that. Do I eat McDonalds? Yes. I probably eat take out once a month, and take out thai is not local or organic. I feel a bit bad about it, but I know if I am sustainable 90% of the time that is good enough. No one is perfect. Heck I eat meat! lol

JudyK said... 39

Seeing the pic of Kate's "quick, healthy lunch" again made me remember that she said she cut THIRTY (30) cherry tomatoes in half for the avocado salad. That would be SIXTY (60) tomatoes in a salad for two. It's kinda like her being up since 5:41 a.m.--not 5:40 a.m., but 5:41 a.m. Can't wait for the curtain to fall on Pleather Kate.

Gift of grab said... 41

Aw, didn't see the new thread. From the previous one:

EM, I think you make some good points. I would add that Kate seems incapable of actually making a plan and executing it properly over time. Two examples of this are her website and the cruise.

Rather than properly investigate all the ins and outs of the cruise, and then POST on her site all of the caveats, she relies on others to provide the detail and just tweets about how much "fun" everyone will be having. For someone who purports to be so organized and methodical, this just doesn't cut it. Knowing her fan base is largely teens, AND HAVING SEEMINGLY MADE A COMMITMENT months ago to a "meet-and-greet" with these diehards (who are her only solid base), she blithely tweets about a cruise that is clearly out of bounds for them based on their ages and their wallets. Obviously, she didn't do her homework. She didn't try to find a cruise line with lower-priced options or a shorter/better itinerary--oh no, someone told her, this is the BIGGEST and the BEST, and she jumped on it. And the devil take the hindmost.

To add insult to injury, she has to rely on Alice Travel to explain the fine (and unhappy) details, which prove that this junket will be off-limits to a huge number of those who might be interested, for a whole lot of reasons. If she were smart, she would have addressed this on her website and committed to another sort of conclave with her hardcore fans at some later date. By pretending she is unaware of the unpleasant details, she is risking a backlash or, even worse, loss of interest on the part of these loyal constituents.

Her website has been up and running now for four months. Yet there are still blank headers--which for most people would mean, TAKE THE HEADERS DOWN. If you have nothing to put there, or you don't WANT to reveal timely information on, for example, your "News and Upcoming Events," JUST REMOVE THE LINK. But she is not smart enough to figure this out on her own. And she is either unwilling to pay a real professional to help her properly manage the content on the site, OR she is incapable of taking direction on things in which she clearly is not an expert. With the result that her site appears sloppy and unprofessional.

There are many more examples of this dysfunction. Others have noted that she seems always to be diverted by "shiny things," and I think this is all too accurate. This is why her post-TV career is such a mish-mash. She is "grabbing" at perceived opportunities as they arise without thinking them through as to whether or not they really fit with either her "image" OR her capabilities. And this is why she is doomed to fail.

Sure, she may throw enough s--- at the wall and make something stick. But her haphazardness and sloppiness belie her self-proclaimed prowess as "mastermind." Yet another big lie from Katie Irene, folks: This is NOT who she really is.

She needs an image/career consultant STAT.

Duckman said... 42

That plate looks like a collection of raw material waiting to be washed and prepped for cooking. It looks more like something going into a kitchen than something emerging from one.

If one looks beyond the embedded vegetables, the veggie patty looks like it came from a quarry that's a cousin to the one that produced the marble countertop.

I agree that Kate's fast & easy lunch does not look good, and it's a weird combo of things...I happened to have re-watched Supersize Me just a few nights ago & at the time of filming, sugar was added to almost all foods, even the salads! But I still will eat there once in a while and I think every kid enjoys it now & then..we know the tups had McD on the Utah trip, M & C at some point ( cups on their dresser) and I bet Jon indulges them once in a while. No big deal. I wonder if K's 'friend' enjoyed this lovely lunch...if it really was a while ago, why would she snap a picture of it- future blog in mind?

First of all "real food" is completely facetious. If you read my comment, I don't even eat "real food." I have had a good veggie burger, but the one Kate showed looks gross.

Second of all, Kate specifically said she doesn't go to McDonalds. She didn't say, I don't go to McDonalds except for coffee. She snobbily said I don't go there. We don't go there. She may have gotten a coffee, who cares. It's just proof Kate is as normal as everybody else and will swing by McyD's when the mood strikes.

Now she brags about her supposedly healthy diet because I guess we want her body? Whatever. She just sucks the fun out of food and eating.

INF posted some pics Jan. 6 showing her shopping. Of course, it was set up because as usual she has her pink iphone glued to her ear. Anyway, it was 32 degrees that day yet she strips off her vest so the photographer can get a shot of how trim she is. I do have to say that she is tiny in those jeans. But then, as I compare the photo of her at the CouponCabin convention, all I can see are her ginormous boobs in that dress. She is so out of proportion. I mean, it looks like her boobs have actually grown even bigger. Yep, that's one hell of a bra.

Dallas Lady said... 57

That lunch she made looks absolutely disgusting! It looks like everything is still frozen!

And I couldn't get over the fact that she spent an hour making a "quick" lunch for a friend who stopped by. You don't cook for an hour for a quick lunch, that's ridiculous. Most of my dinners don't take an hour! And I can honestly say they look a far sight better than that---whatever it is--she's put on that plate.

If she had a friend over, why not photograph both plates? Oh yeah, because the friend part (along with making homemade sweet potato fries) is a fiction.

And here's a tip for Kate: don't store potatoes in the fridge. Store them in your cool, dry pantry. And they make excellent frozen sweet potato fries now that are quite healthy and take 20 minutes in a 400 degree oven. You can add any spice you want and make them sweet, spicy or both! It's AMAZING!

She needs to stop lying, but I'm afraid it's compulsive for her. Open mouth, lie falls out.

Dallas Lady said... 58

Yes,I agree w/ Katie Cry/duh! That's how most of us eat on time and money restrictions to put food on the table or grab a quick bite before some kid's event, work etc. We all do our best to eat healthily but sometimes you just can't.

Kate does take the joy out of eating for her kids- eat in this order- don't spill a ,what was it, a grain of sugar- while baking- the pizza debacle, out to eat at Austin's and she tried to force broccoli on the kids....I'm sure they know Doritos from their friends' lunches and probably sample many non-organic items too. But so what? It's just the hypocrisy that's noteworthy( apart from her regimenting of the kids' eating) that is noteworthy.

Once a Viewer said... 60

Oops, I'm not illiterate, just got interrupted by the dog...pl excuse error in above post.

But another point is that I think eating on paper plates all the time is a bit depressing for the kids, not to mention ecologically unsound. I notice SHE had a plate for the quick' luncheon!'

Kat said... 61

I don't think doing a post about Kate being a liar is "news". It's well documented what a chronic liar she is. You can't even keep track of all hers lies. She has more serious accusations against her right now....grifting, scam artist, neglect of her children, con-man, the list is endless. Her eating habits are the least of her troubles..

silimom said... 62

Dallas - And you can even find those frozen sweet potato fries right next to her veggie patties I would bet!

One other thing Kate needs to remember - just because you buy it at WholeFoods doesn't mean it's organic. There 365 food line isn't unless it's marked "organic".

Like many things, Kate is only organic if someone's looking. She is very concerned with what people think of her, hence all the lies. It's rather sad and pathetic, imo, to live your life based on what other people think of you.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 63

Her extreme obsession with food and need to regulate and regiment it is setting her kids up for eating disorders, weight issues, and overall unhealthy relationships with food.

She's built up this house of cards when it comes to what she eats that can't possibly stay standing--of course she runs to McDonalds, she cannot keep up.

I try to serve as much healthy, organic food as possible (some of my kids have ADHD, some have food allergies, so the fewer additives, preservatives, food dyes, etc the better), and I scratch my head at her choices. Goldfish? Why, if she's an organic food nut, wouldn't she buy them Annie's Organic Bunnies? Nearly the same thing, and she can get them at Target. Gatorade? Her beloved SoBe water would be better for them. She's such an oxymoron. Or just a moron. Take your pick, both work.

Come on now guys, you think Kate would lower herself to a McDonald's coffee when Starbucks are on every corner? I like McDonalds coffee a lot and will stop in for a cup now and again, but my son is a barista at Starbucks and gets a free pound of coffee a week so we are swimming in coffee Lol. Nah, Kate had a big juicy fat and grease laden burger I'll just betcha!

True...I have been to and given 'impromptu' lunches which were usually a tuna fish sandwich or left over pasta salad or other left-overs. I think this whole lunch is a fantasy to show how "impromptu" she can be and eat healthily at the same time. There are many discrepancies to her story..guess her ideas for Menu Monday are running thin.

Mel, I LOVE that quotation ;)

As for McD, there is no shame in stopping by, but there is , in her hypocrisy.

I just took a look at the Royal Caribbean web site, and they are offering the cheapest rooms at $1,165, which is $100 more than Expedia.com. This is significant because when the travel agent works out the package price, they work with the cruise line directly, not some bargain website. If RC started with a price of $1,165, and added expenses for extra staff and special activities, and then the travel agency tacked on 7-15% commission (which is 7-15% of the final package price of $1900, not the base price of the cruise), then Kate better put herself out there and sell a lot of tickets fast. I sure would love to know how well ticket sales are going.
By the way, if I ever found out that some adult (D-list has-been celeb or otherwise) was egging my 15-year-old on to "do it, do it, do it" and to do "anything" to get money to fork over to them, they would have one mad-as-a-wet-cat mom to deal with!

If someone dropped over and I wanted to serve an impromptu lunch, I wouldn't spend the 20 minutes to cut and chop 'veges' (I presume she means veggies), wash the rice, throw things in the oven. Plus the 50 minutes for the rice to cook? Hello, let's just go grab a quick bite somewhere or eat a turkey sandwich already. Pure fantasy. I think she's crazy, now reduced to making up stories and not just facts

McDonalds vs Starbucks said... 74

Out of curiosity I googled this McDonalds and the address is 990 Lititz Pike. I then googled for the nearest Starbucks-their address is 988 Lititz Pike. They're apparently right next to each other.

So does anyone really think Kate would go to McDonalds for coffee, when Starbucks is right next door?

Alas, I do have to much time on my hands.

Mel: totally agree! If I put that plate in front of my husband, he'd eat it (he was in the Army and is thus well-trained in eating anything that is placed in front of him with no complaint), but I'm quite sure he'd give it the hairy side-eye first, like "what the HAIL is this?" It really does look like something my cats would barf up.

Why is there some kind of powder on everything? I can't get over how gross that plate is.

And I guess McD vs Starbucks up there pretty much proved she wasn't at McD's for a coffee, when Starbucks is right next door. Please, like she'd lower herself to getting coffee from McDonald's? She was in there for a good greasy meal, probably because her body was crying out for something other than dusty looking cat puke.

Well, except they like to hire much younger women for that. So, never mind.

Girl better WORK this convention hard. But Lazy Kate won't. She expects things to be handed to her, hasn't figured out YET that she's not all that special and will have to work hard from here on out to keep up her lifestyle.

What was it someone said? She thinks she's hot snot on a silver platter when really she's cold boogers on a paper plate? Crude, but sums it up pretty well. The day she figures out she's cold boogers is the day she really panics and tries to hustle or sells that house and pulls the kids out of private school.

That day will happen in 2012.

All the talk of burgers is making me hungry for Five Guys! Best burgers/fries EVER!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love Culvers. They have deep-fried cheese curds and amazing shakes. Too bad they are not in Oregon yet. Oh well, I do have five guys and burgerville. Burgerville is a local chain. They serve fresh local food that is in season.
I avoid eating organic. I think its a load of BS. Most small farms cant afford to get the certification. Organic farms do use pesticides. These pesticides can have a great environmental impact because the farmer has to use significantly more then traditional pesticides. The organic pesticides kill beneficial insects like ladybugs. Most organic items found in the grocery stores from from big commercial farms that relay on the pesticides to keep the pest population down.
(http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/06/100622175510.htm)
Many organic items have a huge carbon footprint due to transportation. Some of the frozen organic foods are from other countries including China. Next time you are in Whole Foods, look for the frozen food from China.
I try to eat local (grown within 100 miles) as much as possible. I have not had a problem finding small local farms that grow their food in an organic manner but cant afford the certification. I am able to ask the farmer questions about their produce and some farmers let you visit their farms. The place that I got my produce from last spring and summer let me visit and see how he controls pests. It was interesting to see all of his tricks like putting out pie tins full of beer for the slugs to drown in. Its hard to eat local in the winter unless you are into canning. I have not gotten into canning yet but its on my list of interests.
I also am wondering about why Kate seems to be suddenly opening her house to visitors. There was a Christmas Eve (!!??) kid party, now a person just pops by the house for lunch....
Could Kate be trying very hard to work on her social skills in order to do better when she's on one of her gigs? Starting small with just a few people on her turf is the way to go, I guess. Just wondering.
Then again, there are the possibilities that
1) it's all in her mind or 2) we're only now hearing about visitors to the house but they've been coming all along.
HollyMo said... 99
Annie2, a 100 mile diet (as much as possible) makes a heck of a lot more sense to me than eating "organic". Where I live there is a company that contracts with local farmers to provide locally grown produce year round. These vegetables are available in all supermarkets. They do not claim to be organic, but knowing that my vegetables were grown here and not shipped from far away.
Of course, I live in a far northern clime and, like you said, winter choices are minimal.
I can lots during the summer and fall. It's a lot of fun, you should try it!
fidosmommy said... 100
Oh, Oh, Oh! Dallas Lady said... 101
I don't think she's really become friendlier. Somewhere in that pea brain of hers she's figured out she needs to seem more warm and approachable and twitter is the PERFECT vehicle to do that.
Just look at how different she "seems" on Twitter than what we've seen in hundreds of hours of video footage! If you only knew her from twitter, you'd think she was some sweet, loving mother, who gets tears in her eyes just THINKING of meeting her fans, who of course are her FRIENDS!
But in reality, we all know she's one of the coldest fish you could ever hope to (not) meet. So yeah, I think Twitter is the perfect way for her to put out this image she thinks she should have but doesn't really.
Actually, most of my organic is from local Amish farmers. They don't go to the trouble or expense of being certified organic, but I have visited the farms and am satisfied that the farming practices that I would consider organic are being met. We are lucky in that both our homes have Amish markets nearby, so no matter where we are, we get the quality of food we want. Plus, I love all the Amish people we have come in contact with, they are so kind and friendly. Of course, I would never try to take advantage of them by involving them in the filming of a show just to line my own pockets, but hey, thats just me...
I love the sign that one family has up in their booth at a local market, "It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice".
I just read an article (clicked on a link on Preesi's site) where this guy who writes about cruises (for this "examiner" site) related that he was stunned by the huge response he received when he wrote about this Kate cruise coming up. My perception when reading it was that he'd not really known much about Kate G. and the blogosphere.
But the reason I mention it is that I've often read others here wonder why Kate is still even getting offers and I would imagine that the response this guy got is probably one of the biggest reasons why. That if Kate becomes attached to anything....it is likely that, at the very least, a large number of people will check-out the website associated with it.
Of course, checking something out on the website and actually purchasing it are two completely different things.....and will, eventually, make all the difference in whether or not she continues to get offers like these. But in terms of advertising....just being able to attract large numbers of people to come and check out a particular website does...continue....to make her a....well, a person who continues to get offers....even though we wonder why she does.
I think that the whole "hater/sheeple" thing related to Kate G. has taken on a whole life of its own and Kate has been able to benefit from this. And....due to the rather puny number of those who are still her fans.....I suspect it is us non-fans who are mainly....albeit, unintentionally, keeping her afloat (in terms of having any relevance at all).....and when I say "afloat", I refer only to these rather "mediocre" offers she's getting that are certainly NOT what she'd had in mind for herself.
However....at this point, she's only treading water and it will eventually be the bottom line that will float or sink her. To be honest, I would love to see enough fans go on this cruise and have Kate actually follow through and go too. Just the thought makes me chuckle.....to see if Kate can force herself to be super-nice to these strange fans or else see the fans finally see her for who she really is. To me....it's a probable set-up for a bad outcome...just like DWTS was.
And I'd also like to mention that regarding this organic lunch Kate supposedly made for herself and a visitor.....I'm rather suspicious that she didn't make it herself and it was made by an employee. If it had just been a situation where Kate glanced at the photo and just stupidly referred to steak-cut fries as shoestring ones, it would be one thing. But to have gone into a rather detailed description of how she cut the potatoes to make them....makes it quite a bit different. I mean...even IF you don't know the difference....you certainly would not describe cutting something into shoestrings when the photo shows them not looking like shoestrings.
For anyone who is an experienced cook and/or has a real interest in food and cooking.....there is no way a mistake like this would be made if the person had actually prepared the food her/himself. Unless one has Altzheimer's, one would certainly remember how one prepared the food/cut the potatoes. She could have at least explained why most of them look like steak fries but a few look like possible shoestring ones.
But...if it was made by someone else and she simply glanced at it and then wrote up a blog entry, imagining how she made this meal (that she actually hadn't)....it could be possible. I think an employee made it for Kate's lunch, possibly....why the photo is of only one plate....and Kate got this great idea when she glanced at the plate....but didn't really bother to study the photo later.
After many years, I had a Big Mac several months ago...and it just didn't taste the way I remembered it. Are they using a different sauce or something?
She claims she cut them to the size of "shoe laces". Chef de cuisine Kate? I don't think so. I think she copy and pasted the whole lunch menu from other sites. She's a recipe plageurist, but what else is new?
TLC stinks said... 127
fidosmommy, I don't believe for one minute she prepared that lunch for a visitor. That was her lunch. She needed to: prove she has friends; can whip up a meal like Martha Stewart; and needed some way to introduce her supposedly healthy eating tips. Phoney and we cannot take anything she says at face value.
bm-- true about McD's bathrooms. I look out for them when on the road and need a facility. I used to buy something like a Diet Coke for DH, but now I pretty much skip that part (unless he needs some caffeine or is going to be bad and get a shake) and leave.
Never had a problem and they are decent restrooms.
I think Kate needed a quick bite to eat, what with how eating is such a luxury for a busy person!
I've always been rather disgusted when seeing folks wined and dined in luxury in order to get them to donate to desperate causes. Something always seemed to be horribly wrong with that picture to me.
Dallas Lady~
I totally agree with your comments about Kate pretending to be friendly on twitter. In fact, I've often been very skeptical that it was actually Kate herself doing the twittering because I didn't believe she even had the ability to force herself to sound that nice and caring.....one of the main reasons why I'd kinda love to see this whole cruise thing happen...to see her have to force herself to be nice to her fans the entire time in person.
I just feel like I saw and heard enough of her to get a real feel for how deep her narcissism is....the depth of her lack of empathy for others, etc. She seemed unable to even force herself to be nice to anyone on SO many occasions and on SO many shows....not to mention all the reports from those who actually had the opportunity to meet her, work with her, wait on her, etc.
She never seemed to be able to make herself that likeable on any of the TV interviews she did. I would love to see how well she could actually fake it...how believable it could possibly be. It's been really difficult for me to buy any of the twits she's supposedly written that have sounded like she actually cared about the person she was responding to....and I felt that it had to be either someone else twittering for her or that she must be a lot better at faking it than I'd thought she could be.
Of course they need to post that--the Sheeple don't know each other in "real life", so who would share a room? And no family/spouse would ever want to go on a cruise to meet Kate. Can anyone here imagine asking their spouse/significant other to go on a cruise to meet her? They'd have you institutionalized and THEN divorce you.
To expand further, Kate is a scammer. She scammed Jon, her OB-GYN, her family, PA taxpayers, churches, and it continues with little consequence. We catch her, or Preesi does, in lie after lie but she keeps on going; meanwhile there are talented, hard-working people out there who are not rewarded like she is. So maybe we have contributed to keeping her relevant, but maybe going after her will stop this craziness of rewarding all these non-talented, nasty women on the reality show circuit. But what makes her the worst, IMO, is that she brought innocent children into all her hot mess. Really, truly, the woman has some serious issues.
dee3, I had those same thoughts while reading that guy's article about cruises.
And it's true that being hated CAN keep you in the public eye for a bit. But the thing is, as you pointed out, she's got nothing else!
I mean, Roseanne Barr (is that still her last name?) was pretty hated there for a while. Not by everyone, but she had her low points in public perception. But the thing is, she's talented: funny, interesting, she can act. She's still had her talents besides just being intensely disliked there for a while (she seems to have made a rebound, good for her).
What does Kate have?
Can she act? NO.
Sing? Apparently not. She talked very briefly about putting out a CD of Christmas songs sung by her and then never mentioned it again. I guess she got no offers.
Dance? HELL NO.
Interview people well? OH HELL NO.
Be interviewed well (funny, interesting, clever, offbeat, smart?)? NOPE NOPE AND NOPE. We've all seen it. She can hardly be considered a decent public speaker at all.
Write? We've seen her unpolished, crapped out blog entries that weren't edited by someone else. Eighth graders are better writers on the whole.
Market things or ideas? She's SO bad at this.
Cook? A lot of people can cook, but to make a living at it, you have to be good at it, creative, clever, etc. No on all counts!
TWIRL A BATON? ICE SKATE? SOMETHING? ANYTHING?
Nope nope and nope. I've never found a single talent of hers, except for lying and grifting.
And oh my God, that Jimmy Kimmel video is hilarious. It's pretty clear he doesn't feel anything positive about her. I mean the entire bit was about throwing her overboard and making her into shark bait and people laughed and clapped. If she had a working brain, she'd start to get a clue.
One of Kate's cooking issues seems to be pairing foods together. Everything seems so random, like no individual dish belongs in the same meal with the others. This gives her "snacky" meals, carb-heavy meals, and so on. She really needs to think beyond the individual dishes.
I also agree with y'all about the paper plates. Paper plates have their uses, but I'd never use them regularly. Besides the environmental and financial costs, I figure any food worth eating is worth putting on a real plate.
Red Sky At Night said... 152
From "The Gloss" website. She sure is taking a beating on this, isn't she?
"Let’s say you found yourself at Wal-Mart one day, and at the end of one of the aisles, you spotted Kate Gosselin. What would you do? Would you run speedily in the other direction? Would you throw a can of soup at her and then duck behind a paper towel display?
"Or would you run over to her and trail her for the next seven days because you just wanted to be around her that badly?
"Obviously, you would throw the soup. But some marketing genius is banking on the fact that instead, you’d want to attach yourself to her hip for a week: Royal Caribbean cruise lines has come up with the Kate Gosselin Cruise Boat, upon which cruisegoers get to meet, greet and mingle with the horrific mother of eight for a solid seven days.
"According to the cruise’s website, the week-long entrapment with Gosselin includes the opportunity to brunch with Kate, go to a charity dinner with Kate, and (surprise!) buy a copy of Kate’s book, which you can then read on the cruise.
"The ship sails from Ft. Lauderdale on August 12, ladies, so get your tickets while you still can."
Well, it's part of an established pattern of child abuse, because she's creating a world in which nothing she says publicly agrees with what's actually going on in the lives of those poor, confused, and, yes, exploited, children.
And WHAT she ordered isn't the point. The lie, and the hypocrisy, is because she has said that they never GO to McDonald's, which is, as you know, only for mediocres, not for the exalted Mrs. Gosselin.
I didn't mean private as in you're the only one. That floor has its own pool and dining room that the mediocre people from the other floors can't access.
It's kinda like the box seats at the sports stadiums or the opera. Not just you, but not a bunch of other random people either. It's all so....(ahem) refined. Only for the special people. Like Kate.
Can you see Kate one of the public floors? OMG, she'd stroke out. Again.
You're right that this reduced exposure to the mediocre people costs a bunch. My friend's cruise is $30k for 4 people for the week.
A little aside...I was telling her about the KG cruise and her first was response was: OMG! When is it? We're not on the same one are we? I gotta change it if we are!
Hotels do this too....they call it a private floor. It's not just you, but it isn't available to just anybody either. You gotta have the proper credentials to be allowed access to the exclusive floor.
How do they allow access to only those people on that deck? A special elevator that has to be activated with a key? A staircase that can only be accessed by those in the cabins? Security stationed there at all times? What cruise line is that? Interesting concept.
I've been in the sole Penthouse Suite on one of the cruise lines (not Carnival!), highest cabin category, with only a handful of suites on the floor, a "private" lounge," library, etc., but it never was referred to as a private deck. Anyone can walk around any decks unless security is there to stop them and ask for their cabin pass. I've never seen that happen. Maybe things have changed in the past few years.
How is the private deck kept private? No snark here, just curious.
When it's on: Sundays starting January 8
Who's in it: Don Cheadle, Kristen Bell, Ben Schwartz, Dawn Olivieri, Richard Schiff
What it's about: A consulting firm grifts corporate fat cats into overpaying for its services.
Kate must have hated her gig in Las Vegas. She had to stand there and smile, act nice and get her picture taken with the commoners. I'm guessing that this (and others like it) is part of the contract that she signed with CC. She saw only LAS VEGAS but didn't realize what it entailed. Little did she realize that she was just there to meet & greet. I'm sure she thought she'd have some glam job. Welcome to the real world Kate.
I wonder now that the children are older, does she phone them just to remind them that she is thinking about them. I tend to think it is more a case of out of sight, out of mind.
I can almost hear her saying (when speaking of the cruise) I'm not doing this for myself, "I'm working for my kids."
Apparently the ladies are not just stupid when it comes to Kate, but to Casey too. This is what Star Jones said about Casey trying to get a book deal: "She has to make a living. I don't know if she's getting any money. What else is she supposed to do? You can't work at 7-11."
Oh my good God. She can work at a 7-11. Or get any other job out there that doesn't exploit her child's death. What a skewed moral compas some of those idiots have.
I heard the same morally bankrupt excuse for Kate. She has to exploit her kids because she has to make a living. Um, no she doesn't.
Admin, this is exactly why I don't watch those shows anymore. They are idiots, and I find myself slapping my head and yelling at the television because their thinking is so screwed...
I'm surfing through channels, landed on Extreme Cheapskates (it's TLC, I didn't know it until I stopped to see what was going on) and the mom was cutting up cloth toilet paper to save $20 a month. Yes. Toilet paper that is made out of scraps of cloth, used and then washed out. Where in the heck do they find these people?
So, am I understanding this? Someone tweeted Kate after they met her in Vegas, and Milo jumped all over that and wanted a report? How fricken WEIRD.
Khate is a compulsive liar, has been for her entire life I'd guess. Add this with her severe NPD and she would rather take a round the world trip in a rowboat with all of her children and no Steve than admit that she lied.
188 .... Star Jones? What was she doing on the View? I thought she was persona non grata there.
Sorry, I hit send too quickly. Milo reminds me of a stalker I just blocked from my life. He's an elderly man who comes to our food bank. I was nice to him because I knew his late wife. He started bringing me reams of 'forwards' that he printed from his email, which I just tossed. He asked for my email, so I gave him my fake account. He forwarded obsessively until I got him to understand I didn't want them. He facebook friended me and followed me obsessively. I blocked him from doing anything but seeing my posts, but if a friend had an open profile and I conversed with them, he'd respond to me on THEIR profile. He stalked my each and every post, on my travel blog too. I finally made a vague announcement on my facebook wall that I was leaving facebook and then blocked him completely. It worked! I thought. Months later, he was back at it on email, though I never responded. A lot of the stuff he'd send was nasty, like sexual nasty. I called him on that a couple years ago but he'd keep doing it. He gave up on that and sent me a Christmas card. I have responded to nothing. This dirty old man is my Milo. Kate needs to block her and cut her off for good - by getting off Twitter. Milo will continue crossing boundaries; I've been the target of that and it is CREEPY.
Of course eating at Mickie D's isn't a sin. Hell, it's one of those guilty pleasures in life. I refuse to watch supersize me because I am partial to the occasional meal there. What IS damaging to the kids is that their mom broadcasts it that they're somehow superior (huh?) diet-wise and do not eat there. Obviously she's lying about that and myriad other food fables. So what's a kid to do when their mom's stupid ass lies affect them? If they are seen in McDonald's, eating a damn Dorito or something non-organic, then their mom's a fucking liar. No one would care one bit if they ate like the rest of us. Why the pretend organic, health food, faux-veggie-loving facade? So stupid. It's pretty standard for young kids to be very picky eaters; that's why do many restaurants have Mac and cheese, chicken nuggets and spaghetti on their menus. My kids would never eat that chicken cacciatore Kate claimed the kids loved. Come to think if it, didn't see her kids eating it either. They just devoured their corn like they were starving (hmmmmm...). I also consider it hypocritical and borderline abusive if she never takes them to McDonald's but treats herself once in a while. And now her kids probably know it. 11 year olds are Internet savvy and no one is home to monitor their Internet activity other than some underpaid teenager who's probably text messaging her friends right now.
I keep drooling over the Big Mac photo and I'm off and running for one. I need a guilty pleasure right now. Thanks, admin!
There's nothing wrong with Kate's lunch (above), that a polished presentation wouldn't fix. The food itself sounds good, the combination OK (although potatoes and rice is too much). But the plating, the presentation on a too-small, too-deep plate is poor.
Think about it. So much of what irritates people about Kate is in her presentation. She cannot seem to polish herself to be palatable to most of the public.
Those that like her because she shows and revels in her flaws, make me wonder if they would do the same to people in their real life, and put up with rude, cold, self-centered users. I know I'd cut a "Kate" out of my life because she's too needy and her memememe attitude would wear thin real fast. I can't imagine she would make a lunch for a friend to please the friend - it's always for her own benefit.
If only the real life Big Mac actually looked like the one in the picture. Mine always arrived squished.
