When the butter hits the fan: Paula Deen's unhealthy reality

The beloved Food Network southern cook is a diabetic. And some say, a liar and a fake, too.

Comfort food connoisseur and butter and egg lover Paula Deen confirmed a long-standing rumor today--she has Type 2 Diabetes. But Deen didn't just learn of the diagnosis yesterday. She was diagnosed three years ago, and has continued to cook and dish up her high-calorie comfort food and maintain an unhealthy weight all the while keeping her health problems a secret from her adoring public.

Are TV stars obligated to disclose information like this about them, especially when it might seem hypocritical? This brought to mind Jon and Kate's elaborate marriage renewal in Hawaii. We found out later, the marriage was seriously on the rocks. Jon and Kate also downplayed all the money they made from their TV show while they continued their speaking circuit asking for donations.

I know! That is what makes kate such a crappy endorser or promoter. She doesn;t promote her stuff ahead of time. Why? because she is a liar. She doesn't want tweeties to know she's leaving the kids again. If this is a work trip and she is being paid why not promote it? Mom's travel for business. Why be shady? I think because deep inside Kate knows she isn't who she says she is.
She caught between playing poor single mom who needs gifts/donations and is always around for her kids vs. super celeb high rolling rich woman who travels with a paid escort. Her constant back and forth trying to play both sides of the fence must be why she is always "exhausted."

&&&&&&&&

Bingo. I don't think it's that she doesn't know HOW to promote herself. She just won't say anything that has to do with being away from the kids. Not one tweet from the Emmys even though we know she went. Rarely tweets from her many NYC jaunts. Any time she's doing something normal celebs would tweet about, she's silent. Proof that she is working overtime to reinvent herself as someone who just wants to be home with the kids. But watch what she DOES promote on Twitter. Things she can do from the comfort of her home with the kids--radio interviews, sign-ups for the cruise, grifting coffee makers.

She is so dishonest it's ridiculous. Does she think we won't see Extra or the Diane interview? Does she think we don't know she left these kids in the middle of the school week again?

I'm not a fan of PD. We do know her money/brand has been on making and selling food and food items.She has never said her food was healthy...she never led anyone on.She never claimed to be something she's not.She never said to people...eat this! It will keep you healthy.She cooks.

Kate on the other hand,has said alot and has been caught in many many lies.kate can't keep her lies straight.Kate is the super mom...who knows all and does all...who preaches (lies) but doesnt follow what she preaches.
Theres a HUGE difference between them.

What ever happened to that babymomma person? Has she booked her trip for the cruise yet?I would think being her biggest fan ever...she would have been the 1st to book.I hope this cruise fails.This will be just another "where kate went wrong" list topper for 2012.Like we already know....kate is the one who loves kate the most.She cant buy fake fans for this trip like she can on her twitter.

Not sure about BM, but her site turned out to be way more sane and respectful of non-fans than most of her counterparts. She doesn't appear unhealthily (and creepily) obsessed with any of us that I can tell like the others. I say carry on with whatever she feels like, I don't mind her in the least. I've heard she has her moments but over BM is way more understanding of oh well that's their opinion, this is mine, who cares. You play at your playground I'm at mine. They DO snark on the non-fans but no more than we do on the fans. They still insist the haters sites are just two or three people changing names and commenting (man, what work that would be day after day for two years!), but you can't be real on everything I guess. Hi BM, carry on!

I was thinking, can you imagine if one of the kids were diabetic or had something like that? Kate would organic milk that forever. How hard it is to care for a broken child, blah blah. At least Paula Deen is only disclosing her OWN health problems, not someone else's, like her child's.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Starz by the way this is based on a 30 second skim of the site, not too much different than when I last saw it ages ago. But I did see it appears none of them are going on this cruise, it's too expensive, and they outright admit it might not be the best idea for Kate. I assume they mean because of the price.

See? BM and her followers aren't going because it's too expensive (DUHHHH). The sane ones. Who knew.

Silimom~

Let me amend what I wrote earlier. I don't have a real problem with legitimate sites where people can donate to aid people adopting. It would be great if we were all millionaires and could easily afford to adopt but the important thing is that as many children as possible get good homes.

In order to leave Kate's sister out of the equation per request of the Administrator....let me switch it over to Kate herself. When she and Jon were grifting in churches, they were misrepresenting their financial status. It is the MISREPRESENTATION that is the problem....and the point I was making is that if so many of the flock were not so quick to open their wallets, the grifters wouldn't be so successful.
Kate knew to use the whole "selective reduction" hot button topic to just the right crowd to get them to hand their money over.

However, another poster also made a good point, mentioning having given 50 bucks to a neighbor child for a mission and then feeling duped later.....the whole "guilted into giving" thing.
And I do acknowledge this phenomenon....but just wanted to make the point that many will open their wallets just because the right religious terminology and phrases are thrown in there. It's almost like a hypnosis thing...I have a sister who does this. Just add "the Lord willing" on a plea and she opens her wallet...an almost robotic response.

So regarding the sister I won't specifically name....silimom, I feel that there is very likely gross misrepresentation going on in that particular case but do not have a problem with donating to REAL, legitimate adoptions.

It boils down to a critical thinking issue. Jon and Kate, during the church-grifting years, were misrepresenting themselves as being in financial need when the reality was quite the opposite, as they already had their reality show.

If one is in REAL financial hardship or if one is REALLY adopting a needy child....that's one thing. But just because a someone throws the right religious phrases in there, doesn't mean one should just hand the money over. Check out the cause first and use some critical thinking skills.

Regarding the diabetes/diet issue....medicine is a science and like all sciences, much of it is not written in stone. Type 1 diabetes is genetic and often, a person genetically pre-determined to get it will get it regardless of what they eat....but...does what they eat affect when the diabetes kicks in? Could be.
However, type 2 diabetes is not inherited...so the general theory is that it is mainly diet and obesity related.

When I first worked in nursing, back in the 70's....there was NOT this huge epidemic of type 2 diabetes. Most of my diabetic patients were type 1. And you NEVER saw children with type 2 diabetes...only type 1. All type 2's were adult-onset.

Since then, there has erupted this huge epidemic of obesity and type 2 diabetes (and also, PCOS). And one of the growing beliefs is that this seemed to happen gradually and coincidentally after it was announced that fat is bad and carbs are good (I'm paraphrasing here....and of course, mean healthy-type carbs)....BUT the public put their own spin on this and only focused on the fat is bad issue. Food companies began to market all this "lite" food but in order to make the foods more palatable, after removing much of the fat, they added even more sugar, usually in the form of HFCS (high fructose corn syrup)...and in fact, started adding this HFCS to almost every processed food on the grocery store shelf....literally (IMO) poisoning the American public.

The theory behind this is that all this pure sugar overworks the pancreas....initially causing pre-diabetic conditions like hypoglycemia and insulin-resistance (and PCOS could also factor in here)....but eventually leading to type 2 diabetes. Of course, this is an over-simplification and of course, there are many individual differences when it comes to our bodies and not every single person has the same outcome necessarily. The theories are based on clinical patterns. But the pattern is definitely there.

If interested in these theories, go to youtube and watch lectures of Gary Taubes and/or Robert Lustig.

So....back to Paula Deen.

And let me just say up front that perhaps I am being less than 100% objective because I have a HUGE problem with the rampant corruption and greed in the big pharma industry......and maybe, if PD was just gonna plaster her face on, let's say, a Mattel Diabetes Barbie....I might not be having as big of a problem with it. But getting in bed with big pharma? Yeah, I'm definitely having a problem with it.
If you think the pharmaceutical industry really cares about patients and their medical problems, think again and do some research. And don't assume they need all that profit for research, as some of the best research comes out of Europe, from countries that have universal health care.

Look..I like Paula Deen. She seems like a really nice person, a good mom, etc. Reportedly, her career began when, as a single mom, she was trying to raise her two sons on her own. And if this was just a situation where PD had marketed herself as this down-home, Southern comfort food cook, practically swooning when tasting her own heavily fat and sugar-laden dishes....and she later learned she had type 2 diabetes and chose not to reveal it....I would have NO real problem with this. And I'm serious. She never promoted her food as being healthy....so why should she risk ruining her career and embarrassing herself?

BUT....it's this coincidental announcing it 3 years later and getting into bed with a big pharmaceutical corporation that I have a problem with. Does this qualify as hypocrisy? I'm not sure but I do know that it stinks.....of unmitigated greed.

What even makes Paula Deen any more of an expert on diabetes than any one of the other millions of diabetics in our country? Just because she's now a diabetic, it doesn't make her any more of an expert on it or should make anyone want to use Novo Nordisk more than another diabetes medication. To me, it's the same as asking what made Kate Gosselin any more of an expert on motherhood just because she gave birth to multiples after using fertility medication....and WHY did would any of us buy into this?

Kate does NOT appear to be any sort of great mother and if anything, should be an example of how NOT to raise your children. And Paula Deen, the poster child of what NOT to eat if you are diabetic or trying to avoid getting type 2 diabetes, is probably the last person who should be plastering her face on diabetes medication.

Paula Deen does not seem to be a malignant narcissist like Kate G. She seems to be a MUCH nicer person for sure. BUT....she is just as greedy as Kate G. EVER was.

readerlady said...

I have a couple of questions for that Diane person to ask Kate. Do you ever feel even the slightest bit of guilt over your ongoing attempts to destroy the father of your children? How do you justify blatantly lying to your children that "mommy and daddy will always be together" when you knew your marriage was over?

dee3 said...

To Diane Mizota, if she is reading here~

Even if you were able to ask Kate G. hardball questions, she would not answer them with anything resembling the truth. But for some unsolicited business advice.....if you can manage to put her on the spot and elicit some sort of disastrous comment like the "mediocre" one she made during a prior interview....it would probably go a long way in terms of increasing your name recognition. :D

Keep in mind that she:
1. has no interest in anything unrelated to herself, and is therefore not really knowledgeable about anything not related to herself,
2. basically wings-it during interviews, making it up as she goes along and often contradicting things she said in prior interviews, and
3. she is a classic textbook narcissist....and a little research on NPD would go a long way in providing preparation for interviewing her.

Those with NPD feel entitled, have little to no empathy for others (though they can learn to mimic others who do), rarely, if ever, consider themselves to be at fault and will get angry if anyone says otherwise, consider others to be simply tools for them to get what they want....etc.

If you can only interview her about CC and her blogger position there....you will only get pre-prepared rote responses from her.

Admin, Kate wasn't on Twitter until April 2011. Emmys were 8 months before that.

Emmy appearance was August 2010. Don't believe she went in 2011--if she did, she certainly wasn't spotted.

Someone asked the interviewer why she is even doing an interview, lol.

I see it's a "press" day for her, as she says. Ha ha! Any other person would be embarrassed at the kind of press she gets now (but not her).

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Gift of Garb, I made a mistake about the Emmys, but not as to what year. As to whether Kate tweeted or not.

Kate TWEETED she was at the Emmy's in 2011. I did a post on it. http://www.realitytvkids.com/2011/09/kate-at-2011-emmy-awards.html

Kate went to the Emmys in 2010 too, BUT Kate was at the Emmys THIS year too, but she probably wasn't able to walk the red carpet this time and got some leftover nose bleeder seats and didn't make any photos. She probably dropped anvils she wanted to go again the next year when she was there in 2010.

My coworker's husband gets Oscar tickets every year because he works for a big firm that reps many stars. They go every year, but of course they don't walk the red carpet or make any press photos because they're not famous. It was probably one of these tickets floating around she scored.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Jenna Kim Jones who was there also confirmed Kate was there, because initially people thought Kate might be lying about being there.

She tweeted this (at the 2011 Emmys)

jennakimjones JKJ
Kate Gosselin is here. Really trying not to let that ruin this for me.

Other than saying she was there though, Kate didn't tweet one thing at all interesting whatsoever. The Emmys, the place real celebs actually tweet clever things.

I like how she conveniently leaves out that she's 3,000 miles away from home.

Kate, we know already!

Gift of grab said...

You may be right, I thought there was some question about whether she was truly there. I don't remember an actual tweet from Kate--wasn't it from someone who said they had spotted her? Looking back at the post you linked, I can't find any comments from her.

Whatever . . . as we all know, she lies, a lot, so actual photographic evidence would be nice.

Gift, here's her actual tweet about it. And it was in reply to none other than her most unstable sheeple!

kateplusmy8
@MiloandJack yes-I was Inv by a friend--so I made a quick mad dash out. Entertaining,good2c friends! Great2support primeX tv!Such talent!

We all thought she was making that up, but then Jenna Jones tweeted she saw her so we more or less accepted it was true. Because I know this couple that goes to the Oscars every year, I know it's perfectly possible to go without making a single press photo as long as you are not walking the red carpet, which most people who go DON'T. Only big names get invited to walk the red carpet at the Emmys.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

The funniest part of it all was she never made any press photos about it.

And I guess I was right--she never did tweet AT the actual Emmys or AS she was going. She only tweeted when pressed by her high sheeple to fess up, AFTER. She hasn't a clue how to use Twitter and we said the same thing in that thread about the Emmys.

I think it is a fair assumption that Kate was not contacted for any interviews, either she or Steve contacted them. I read that the TLC PR person would contact "People" and other outlets for interviews when she was under contract with TLC.

Can't imagine why there is any interest other than she is promoting CouponCabin and her cruise. I wonder who is picking up her and Steve's tab for this trip to LA? I bet she and Steve are also knocking on some doors looking for a TV slot. I guess he'll be hanging around until after the cruise, and then 2013 we should be Kate-Free.

This has gotten ridiculous. I can hear Kate justifying leaving her 8, count 'em 8, kids with a sitter for almost half the time she has them. "I'm a single mom! I have to work! Fame IS my job! I have to shmooze and travel and "do press" to stay famous!"
It's sickening. I wonder if Jon cares, or if his hands are tied, or if he can do anything about it anyway.
Do judges buy this bullshit excuse to constantly abandon those kids?
Those poor kids are so young and need Mom at home after school, for homework, for dinner, at bedtime. It's so, so sad.
The worst part is that I don't think Kate feels any remorse whatsoever that her kids need their mom and she'd be a far better mom if she were home every day and night, even after working a nursing shift.
She makes me ill.

I don't think Kate's time away from the kids is any more or less than other working moms who have to travel. Frankly, I think having the nanny is a blessing and a break from Kate.

What gets me is why there is any interest....I don't believe there is, but she is constantly on the prowl for recognition. She is fading fast. Love it that many of her sheeple cannot afford that cruise. After what happened in Italy, I would not only think twice about the price but also safety. The "Allure" is, I believe, one of the biggest cruise ships around. Perhaps she is looking to soothe fans' fears about the cruise (mo' fans means mo' money for her). So sincere, that one! Leave it to her to take a tragedy and use it for her own gain.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Do judges buy this bullshit excuse to constantly abandon those kids?

&&&&

Unfortunately usually a judge isn't going to get that involved. She has a good nanny presumably, and lots of parents travel for work. She would fire right back that she is home all day when she IS home. Yeah, Twattering away. She is home. The judge probably wouldn't mess with custody because "business trips" are part of your job.

Annie2 said...

~~~~~~~~
The problem comes from the fact that she said that she could not take a nursing job because she would be away from her kids so often. She then uses any excuse that she can find to get away from them. She is such a hypocrite!
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
She's a hypocrite, for sure. But my narcissist was away from home even more and for LENGTHS of time and no one messed with her custody. You get good nannies and a live-in housekeeper around and judges are happy. Sometimes Kate's little jaunts feel like nothing to me I hate to say--a lot of kids in Hollywood don't see their Mom for weeks when they're off on a project. Angelina Jolie is the exception when she takes her kids everywhere, not the rule.
TLC stinks~
I agree that the children are probably far better off with the nanny/nannies than they are with Kate. That being said, however, regarding what Tucker's Mom said ("...if she were home every day and night, even after working a nursing shift.")......what bugs me are Kate's lies.
In order to get her narcissistic fill (meaning...celebrity attention), Kate's wish to be in the entertainment industry would have her traveling as much as possible and being home as little as possible.......(being home with the children) far, far less than working shifts as a nurse would ever cause. But she creates her own facts as proof of whatever it is SHE wants....regardless of whether it's true or not....or whether it makes any sense or not.
Are there celebrities who do manage to spend significant time with their children? I'm sure there are.....but feel fairly certain that Kate's idea of being a celebrity would not include this. The real truth is that having become accustomed to not only this standard of living but also the level of narcissistic fill she received while the show was still being filmed.....she refuses to accept less.....and will most likely continue to try and maintain it until the bitter end. That is why she doesn't want to be a nurse again.....the level of narcissistic fill from that is not even comparable to what is gotten when one is a celebrity. The fact that she'd rather not be home with the children is incidental in this case. She simply doesn't want to settle for less attention.
It's ALL about receiving attention and has little or nothing to do with the amount of time she would be able to spend with her children.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
That's not to say it's not rough on kids when parents travel, a Mommy or a Daddy who is constantly traveling. A lot of parents have to do it and you do the best you can. Kate at one point says she just texts her kids, and didn't want to be called on her trips--there's where it gets scary.
Some kids can feel very badly when Mom and Dad miss things. Others will learn how to get along without them, I don't need them attitude. Let me tell you, when you see a 10 year old with the attitude "Mommy? I don't need HER" it is very scary. And sad.
Dallas Lady said...
I have no doubt if Kate had her way, she'd keep custody of the kids but be gone six days out of the week, every week, and just see them for a couple of hours. That would suit her right down to the ground.
Hi, everyone. I lurk here on a regular basis, but seldom comment, not because I don't have an opinion, but my views coincide with yours. We all know Kate's habits and short comings but what is wrong with the people and companies that let her get away with her grifting, lies and a plethora of other traits? The entire debacle is an enigma and I, for one, would like to see it coming to an end, yet no end is in site!I'll admit I'm hooked because it's hard not to watch a train wreck.How many more 15 minutes does she get? how many of us could just arbitrarily decide we want XYZ and either shows up or happens? I know her philosophy is "no never means no to me" but how does she control so many? She doesn't give a good interview, not a good public speaker, not a positive personality, not a good mother, etc., so what do others see in her that we don't? I can't "honestly" say one good thing about her.
Soooo, who is footing the bill for this trip? I wouldn't think it would be any of the three we are aware of on this "press day." So who? Is this another awards weekend in Hollywood? Her running coach? Mark Burnett? And why is this man so willing to coach her?
On a different note, someone asked yesterday about viewing the segment of "Say Yes To The Dress" starring Kate. I, too would like to see this. Can anyone tell me how to find it? Thanks for letting me rant.
