Dance Moms, about a no-nonsense, abrasive Pittsburgh dance teacher and her young students, is turning into Jon and Kate Plus 8's biggest rival for Pennsylvania's most exploited kids. From ranking the girls in a pyramid each week, to filming the girls sad and crying when they make mistakes, to all the fighting that happens in front of the kids, this show is hot on our radar.
But turns out, even the star of the show admits a lot of it is fake.
When asked about the infamous pyramid, in which the same girl is usually on the top, dance teacher Abby Lee Miller told TV Guide:
I've never done that in my life. That has nothing to do with me. That's the show. They came up with that whole process. The whole pyramid thing was for the show because we could not do a new solo for every single child, and a new group and new duets and trios every single week. There's just not time available.
As for the constant competitions in which the girls have just a week to learn their routines, Miller said:
All these competitions we're attending, I've never attended in my life. Teaching children a routine in a hotel hallway that they are performing onstage the next day? That's insane. Nobody would do that.
But Miller does admit she likes the perks of a reality show:
For the first time in my life at my age, I was at a dance convention, not sleeping on a roll-away, not on an air mattress with seven other kids in my room, but I actually had my own room. I thought, at this point in my life, I have done amazing things and I have dedicated my entire life — I don't have a husband, I don't have children — to my students. And this involves me. And it's the only thing I've ever done for myself and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
So, real little girls living real lives. But, fake ones, sort of. A lot of it. Has Lifetime thought at all about the psychological implications this fake reality is having on little hearts and minds?

I'm sure that is true for a lot of viewers. For my hoarder mom it only gives her a justification statement of, at least I'm not that bad. They truly don't see how bad it really is. I wonder sometimes if it's not like eating disorders. Not literally of course but the one with the eating disorder looks in the mirror and never see how sick they really are. Something in the brain just doesn't make the connection.
It's a sad thing to watch when it's one of your loved ones. It doesn't excuse the grossness of it but it hurts to see my mom like that. I also didn't mean in my post above that it's only one issue in them. Yes, they are lazy. But the bottom line of it, for my mom anyway, is that they can't let it go. They will need it later.
I guess if it was simple to understand and fix we wouldn't have hoarders or people with eating disorders. And saddest of all, no TLC shows. NOT!!

To me I think there are two separate and distinct issues here with Dance Moms. One is the coaching issue, whether a coach like this is detrimental to kids (I am in the camp that says yes, it is, and that there are plenty of other kinder more respectful coaching styles that still produce great results). I can only speak for high school sports where we had several very kind coaches--and several championship teams.
The other is the issue that personally interests me more--regardless the coaching style, is it exploitive to film children like this, undergoing such intense pressures? Of course I believe it is.

I am starting to question whether it is ever appropriate to film children in reality shows., or, for that matter, employ children in entertainment. And, is it healthy for children to focus on a single activity that is often chosen for them at a very young age.
I think that a lot of discussion on this board--including this one -- is about drawing lines where kids are concerned. When is competition healthy and when is it abusive? I don't think there is a single answer because it seems l think the single most important factor is a child's temperament and what kind of environment best suits them.
For example, my son didn't like competitive team sports--he just wanted everyone to take turns at the basket, without interference. However, he flourished in karate, where success was determined on an individual basis.
My daughters loved playing team sports, where in addition to individual achievement, they supported each other as a team. They were only one year apart in school, and did choose the same sport. Sometimes they were in the same age group, sometimes they weren't.
Different children=different choices. Not for Kate's children, of course. They all love the identical activities. We had some very busy years there, but I wouldn't change a thing!

Every exercise book i have ever read, or instructional video I ever watched always says STOP if you experience pain during exercise. And if you are sore after exercise it is recommeended to rest one day to give muscles a chance to rest, recover and grow.
I have one workout book that is awesome. It specifically has a plan that does not use same muscles 2 days in a row. One day you use your push muscles (shoulders, chest. triceps). 2nd day use pull muscles (back, biceps) and 3rd day use you crunch and kick muscles (abs,legs). The reasoning is NOT to use same muscles 2 days in a row for vigorous exercise. You body does need to recover from a workout. Miss Marathon should know these simple things - or would if she used a trainer and oh, i dont know, actually ran the full marathon.
I will never believe she ran 24 miles. Nothing in her speak inplies she knows the 1st thing about long distance running. From stretching, amount of miles to run per week, recovery, nutrition - she has nothing to offer.
If she just had to offer any advice to her tweetie runner, it should have been to rest, not push herself tomorrow, and wait until the pain subsided before running again. That would be a safe answer. She knows these morons hang on her every word so she should watch what she says. This tweetie wont wanna seem weak to kate and will run tomorrow "in kates honor" when the queen should have given her blessing for tweetie to rest.
By the way, how do these fans see kate as motivated and inspirational? They watched the show right? She was lazy as can be. I think they are only impressed my the material gains kate was able to grift. I swear, sheeple confuse me. The live for the show, watch it over and over...yet walk away seeing something totally different that a normal person sees. Its an interesting look at the differences in peoples mentality.

I read that Kate was darning one of Cara's socks. It might be one of her athletic socks that she needed that day for school or right after school - no time to go shopping.

Admin-I live about 30 miles from where the Powell tradegy took place. They were discussing the 911 call this morning on local talk radio and it was so tragic. I don't blame the operator-they are trained to ask questions because they receive so many calls but it was the most frustrating 6.5 minutes. The social worker was trying to explain but sounded flustered and the operator wasn't sure what she was trying to say. The whole situation is so sad-there are no words.

Abbey is bad but I agree, the moms are worse. All the fighting is insane, even Abbey is constantly saying NOT in front of the kids! These moms thrive on the drama of it all. Abbey should take responsibility for not engaging in that, and usually she actually does try to just walk away and they follow her.
I get the sense Abbey has always been and always will be dedicated to being a dance instructor. The reality show for her seems like a fun little diversion, and she does seem to like attention and freely takes whatever is handed to her. But it really doesn't go much further than that. Even in her TVGuide interview she basically had to cut it short to go teach. She cared more about that then the interview. She's not going to move to NYC or LA. She truly just cares about teaching girls who will someday do that.

Why do these moms feel the need to put their kids on TV? For dancing? Can't they do that and excel at it privately? I mean you can be a good dancer but if these kids are young the passion may not last the rest of their lives they might move on to something else.
Why is it always the weird people who end up on reality TV shows? Yeah they seem normal in the beginning, start out okay and then I don't know something along the way happens and a lot of them seem to just erupt.
I believe in encouraging your kid and letting them follow their dream, but not every dream has to be this big production of, "I want to dance, I had a birthday party, I am on of 6." I mean what is with that? Why are people willing to put themselves out there on reality TV for? Really for money? For fame? What else could there be? Experience? Life opportunities? Opportunities are things that come without expecting them to.
It is Kate's fault she decided to build her life on this reality TV rug, and now that it's pulled out from under her she's got nothing. Why still continue to push her kids who seem to not want to do it? Fame? Money? Attention? I just wish she would look back and wonder what was so bad about being an ordinary mom from PA who happened to want fertility treatments, knowing she would get multiples without a TV life.
So her kids wouldn't have gotten everything they've gotten, so she wouldn't have a big house, and maybe just maybe she wouldn't have gotten a divorce. Do I believe she would be scrapping by in society? Heck no. Not if you work hard, jobs are there you just might not get everything fancy.
When is reality TV going to just die? Because I really want to bury it. It's on almost every freaking channel. Don't these people know how weird they are? You want memories? Go get a camera and spend about $20 or so getting film developed. End of story.

The sheeple's hearts are with the Gosselins because they feel they know this family through tv. Deserving families are seldom advertised. In the beginning I could understand the community reaching out to Jon and Kate and even thought they were fortunate to land a tv gig to help support a large family. But it went horribly wrong because Kate has this sense of entitlement. From the time the twins were born, she realized that it was an opportunity to get attention and get free stuff. In my gut I believe the tups were conceived mostly to get attention. Jon rolled over and followed Kate's plan. She is a manipulator and tweeter is her vehicle of choice, at present, to continue the grifting and self promotion.

She is too self-absorbed to realize that she may be bringing shame upon her kids. But as they get older, they are going to figure out tha the other students at their school will not consider them "polite people" because of their mother's behavior. Let's hope none of them grow up and try to join the Junior League or even a local country club. They will find themselves shunned because of their mother's bahavior 20+ years before. Her begging ensures that certain doors will be slammed shut on her kids when they grow up. I hope it's worth it, because they will be paying for this for the rest of their lives. How humiliating for them.

If I recall, at that time sunrise was around 7:10 or so -- so if it was dark, it wasn't for much of the ride, and the sun was coming up.

Really see that seemed dark to me. That's what darkness looks like in the winter back East because of all the reflection on the snow. 2am can look pretty bright when the moon is full. Plus in her pic, the moon is still out!

After following this so closely for three years now, I don't believe it ever is appropriate to film children for reality shows. They are just too many downsides to it identified over the years. Some more serious than others, all concerning. Our jobs as adults are to create a secure and private environment for children. This is not like child actors, where they play a character then go back to their private lives. The child IS the character on reality, and that's simply not in their best interest.
There are just too many examples of things going wrong. There are simply not enough examples of life being so much better for a kid on a reality show. And don't tell me because they get STUFF it's a good thing. I'm not counting money and stuff as benefits. You can get a job and give your kids the same money and stuff.

It seems like Kate's MO is to yell. I was really take back when she screamed "QUIET!!" to the kids so they could repeat the lunch eating order for her. It shocked me. However, I think the kids think it's normal, in other words, I don't think the kids are alarmed because they're used to the shouting.
Not an ideal way to communicate with kids, but I think the 8 view it as normal.

Maybe this has already been mentioned, but on RoadRunner Kate Plus Eight was listed as one of the worst reality shows involving children and the damage that has most likely been done to them.

I ran for 10 years, but as an older runner I was
having a lot of aches and pains. This was nothng serious, just the usual stuff that comes along with pushing an older body. I routinely started taking Ibuprohen and this helped immensely. It, being an OTC drug, I never associated any risk to taking it. Over the years, I developed stomach pain and not once did I connect the dots.
I still remember the Gastroenterologist looking down at me and saying, 'you have just taken your last anti-inflammatory!' I was taking 400mg on an empty stomach and developed stomach ulcers as a result.
Kate, needs to stop handing out medical advice
now before she does harm to someone, like me, who has a very low tolerance for this particular medication. To clarify, Kate should not hand out ANY medical advice to anyone, for any reason, period.

I believe the kids catch the bus between 6:30 - 7:00 a.m. and don't return until 4:00, plus the ride home from the bus stop. Pretty close to 10 hours.
If a person has any kind of kidney trouble, ibuprofin and acetomenephin (sp?) are not
good choices. I am not allowed to take either one. I did not know that until my
DOCTOR told me. I could have really messed myself up.
Those two don't always mix well with other medications, either.

I do know about the Little House kids. Matthew Laborteaux(sp?)-Albert- was adopted as a sickly & autistic child but flourished as a child actor. He is still in showbiz but in a minor capacity.
His brother Patrick-Andy-whose name has a 'y' in it for some reason(Labyorteaux?) was a troubled child and considered unadoptable. He too did well on the series and continues as his brother does, in minor jobs in the business.
Melissa Anderson- Mary- was not liked by all the other LH kids,seeming snooty, but appears to have turned out fine, with 2 kids, whom she would not want to go into entertainment. She felt pushed by her rather cold mom according to her autobiography. She felt a need to be 'perfect.'
Allison Arngrim- Nellie- is very much opposed to children working in showbiz and works alongside Paul Petersen. She is very aware of the Gosselin case.She does comedy, one-woman shows now. She suffered repeated sexual assault as a child and had odd parents.
Melissa Gilbert-Laura- also was adopted and had issues with her mother and her acting career. She dealt with sex, alcohol, drugs,abortions, 2 divorces I believe, and much unhappiness. She was an alcoholic, now in recovery.
The Greenbush twins are not in acting now.
And yes, what a sad picture of Macauley Culkin- emaciated and looking very 'off.'

update. I knew about Allison A. from this blog, and I knew Melissa Gilbert is still doing some TV work, but that was about it.
I appreciate your input on this.
After listening to some of Nina Frye's shows on Kate, I was curious about the set up of the station, since shereferenced that she has a studio in her home. In 2 clicks, I found out that Toginet is a cooperative radio station, made up of independent broadcasters who are 100% in charge of their own contents and format and makes it very easy for an aspiring radio personality to get started.
This is a perfect example of how Kate is truly lacking in the resourceful department. Miss "I am 10 steps ahead of everyone" clearly doesn't know how to seek out opportunities for herself. Since we know she reads here, I am going to help her out:
Kate, stop waiting for your agent to book you for a mall opening, or whatever z-list gig she can scrape up. You have done guest call-in shows with Nina Frye, so you should be aware that she is sitting in home studio. You have said, via twitter, that you were interested in radio. Anyone who has an interest, the 'gift of gab', a work ethic and some money to invest in themselves can start a radio talk show. Toginet provides all of the support services that you need to get started. Stop "acting" like a mom, and actually be a mom. Stop waiting for someone to hand you a big role or gig and start scrambling like most unemployed people do to support their family.
You think you can make it in media and you have what it takes to interview people---PROVE IT. Stop whining and show your kids that you meant it when you said that you would anything for them. Oh, and remembered this from MG's book- her brother Jonathan Gilbert (also adopted) played Willie Olsen- he disappeared from his family for years at a time once of age with only minimal contact. Seemed he was very unhappy as a child actor and with his adoptive parents. MG was not close to him, but was fond of Sara Gilbert, also a child actress (Roseanne)& who was not adopted- she's doing fine as an adult. (Not that the adoptive aspect is that important as far as I know)

Anyone who has an interest, the 'gift of gab', a work ethic and some money to invest in themselves can start a radio talk show. I didn't see either show last night so I'll read the transcripts. I feel terrible for those little boys and their family.
Don't you find it strange how Kate seems to fly under the radar when people like Dr. Drew and Nancy dicuss tragedies that like this? I think it could be because they're both parents of multiples too - they have some kind of kindred spirit going on with Kate. She's like teflon when the subject of narcissistic behavior comes up. Maybe that's also part of the reason they don't discuss her as well - it seems like both DD and NG are media 'hos too with some NPD thrown in there. Maybe Pinsky will shed more light on it when his program with Kate airs next week.
Kate's attitude could come back to bite her. By that I mean, as the kids get older, a lot of times kids pick up one or the other parent's personality to an extent. Her kids could turn out later in tears years just like her, or turn on her and treat her how she treats them.
This sort of thing happened with my brother, he moved out at 17 because he began to treat my mom with as little respect as she did to us growing up. None of us speak to him. Is that really what Kate wants?
Sure she says her kids are a unit, or whatever, but they are not yet teenagers. Isn't that about the time kids don't want to be even seen with their parents? Let alone that you will be talking about them?

I'm not a yeller, but even if I were, I'd never have to bark orders because I make sure that clothing is laid out the night before, coats are by the door, and backpacks have been packed up before the kids go to bed. I put them (the bookbags, not the kids) in the car at night. Everything is ready to go.

She's been awfully quiet for the past few days for some reason.
Does anyone know if the apartment over Kate's garage is being utilized? If not, why not? I would think she could get a live in nanny with room and board or rent it out for income. How large is the apartment?
I've also wondered if there are restrictions of some kind that prevent her from using her acreage for income. Maybe a golf course or winery or just lease it out for someone to farm,
grow Christmas trees, or just sell part of it. It's obvious she can't manage 24 or so acres.
One last item. Does anyone know the story behind the new bikes the kids received in the fall. It was a weird time for all to receive bikes, no birthdays or Christmas. Probably another grift?
On Dr Drew and Nancy Grace they discussed the personality types of parents who murder their children, or people who have no remorse. It did no good for the grandparents of these little boys to try to stop this...in fact it did no good for the social worker who was with the boys to try to stop this murder of the little ones. They did a step by step discription of Khate...and yes I am scared. I do not normally watch these shows...Nancy Grace is awful.

Kart@45: I believe the kids catch the bus between 6:30 - 7:00 a.m. and don't return until 4:00, plus the ride home from the bus stop. Pretty close to 10 hours.
I believe that the tweeter said that she makes her kids stay AT SCHOOL for 10 hours a day.
However, even if you figure in the transportation time, it's not 10 hours, or close to it.
My math is lousy, so if I'm not figuring something correctly here, make me stay after school!
The bus leaves at 7 a.m. and gets back at 4 p.m.
School - from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. = 7 hours
Bus ride 48 minutes, each way = 96 minutes
Ride to the bus stop, 10 minutes one way = 20 minutes
Grand total = 8.93 hours.
Where is the extra hour coming from?

Only thing more confusing about how long they spend at school is when these kids go to bed.
Any normal 7 year old should be in bed by 8:00pm. I went to bed at 8:30pm until I was in high school.
But we've gotten 7:30pm or 9pm or later when Kate says "we're all in bed now." Or the twins stay up late to give her a massage.
Does she even have time to play with these kids? I've never seen her do it. I've her watch the kids play. I've heard her say, "As long as they're screaming that means they haven't been abducted, which is a good thing." I've seen her tell her kids 10 more minutes while she sits around.

As to the mine-all-mine acreage, I think zoning restrictions keep her from splitting it up. I've always thought she should at least plant a garden on some of it. Such a waste, and all because she wanted privacy...which is kind of ironic when you think about it.
I grew up on a about 2 1/2 acres of land, our nearest neighbors were down on the next block which also stretched for several acres. My dad planted trees, I think now maybe about over three dozen kinds of trees. He worked his land because he owned it.
I don't live in PA and have never been that far east, so I don't see a reason what would prevent Kate from using the land she bought other than being lazy. I mean after all if she's so organic with her own chickens least she could do is plant a kitchen garden to save her poor-broke self some money on vegetables and fruits.
It doesn't matter how long the bus ride is, it's that the kids have to be on it by 7am to get to school and on it until 4pm to get home. 7am-4pm = 9 hours. Add 20 minutes total to get to and from bus = 9 hours and 20 minutes. And that's if everyone gets in BBB at the same time in the am, if no one forgets something inside or is lagging behind. So yeah, pretty close to 10 hours
Then homework (spelling, you know), showers, dinner, prepare stuff for the next day, bedtime etc. Not much down time for Kate to play with them or talk about their days/concerns. How convenient...I used to hate days when the kids had activities in a way because it cut down on out time together...but gosh, these kids must be so tired. A sad life in many ways.
And YES! A garden. It's obvious this family would profit from one and it would be a group project for boys, girls and Mom! No gardener allowed.Right.

Wait, what am I thinking? Kate doesn't want her kids to get dirty, wet or have horrendous nails. Gardening is definitely out.

Marie- Behavior is learned. Kate has whined, complained, grifted non-stop(and the kids know it), has treated many people very poorly, including THEIR own father.
IMO, Mady and Cara are older and have figured her out. They are bright girls and "get it," and I think Cara's frustration was VERY clear. Mady chose a different path, to "manage" her dealings with her mother. Complete reversal, and no accident.
The tups are 7 and a few of them have clearly "acted out," some verbalized/mimicked Kate's crazy behavior, and the "boys" took the back seat Kate delegated them, and their role in HER life and fell silent, as if fixtures, much like Jon did at some point.
Let's face it. You can't rationalize with an irrational person, who treats the boys as second class citizens. I am sad for them, as I do believe a couple of the boys have given up. I have seen some of the girls hit them and treat them badly many times on film. Why? I think we all know the answer to that question.
Will wait to see if she takes the twins on the cruise, but honestly, she is doing this for all of the wrong reasons. I am sure the twins are very vocal about all of the fuss the tups have gotten over the years, and rightfully so, so Kate is now in a pickle while trying to escalate her "cruise sales" once again using her kids, as she always has. She most likely does not want to be bothered, but she is resorting to what she knows best- using her kids to sell her cruise. I am sure she is not happy about this, as all she wants to do is TRAVEL and go on HER first cruise alone(work: ), but her cruise is tanking, and she knows it. So she will once again use her kids to fill her desires. Notice I did NOT say NEEDS.
Kate will NEVER change, and I do believe she has some rough roads ahead, once these kids understand they have a voice, and I do believe it has started already. Good luck to Kate in 3-4 years when they ALL collectively call her on her self absorbed unmotherly grifting fame-seeking behavior. It is not going to be pretty. Sorry so long. Just venting.

What would she use it for? If it were able to be divided and sold to developers, that would be one source of revenue, but according to the original listing, it is not allowed to be sub-divided:

I would like to know what she does all day. What is preventing her from getting a 9 to 5 job...or going back to nursing? She would still be at home to get them off to school, and the sitter could meet the kids at the bus stop in the afternoon. How would employment prevent her from spending time with the kids? She would have them in the evenings and two weekends a month, regardless if she had a job or not.
Well, I read ML was great with the kids on the show until they messed up & used emotional blackmail- basically cold-shouldering them- until they shaped up. He could make them cry on cue by reminding them of sad things etc. He had an affair with a stunt double on set & divorced his wife. But according to all the 'kids' autobiographies they loved him very much, yet craved his approval and felt horrible when he withheld it. I think he was maybe a typical Hollywood guy with a big ego but did love the kids including his own, on his own terms. I know MG reconciled with him only shortly before he passed away.

I don't understand why this is becoming a big deal. A non-fan exaggerated. The point is they spend a long time at school, a long time on the bus, yes sometimes even on the bus very early and late, and the greater point is that Kate gets more free time than any other mother of multiples in history.

So Cindy Cardella added the morning runs with Kate two weeks ago. I've been looking at Kate's @ feed and that additional event seems to have netted zero additional cruisers. At least from what I can see on Twitter.
I was also reminded of Cindy imploring Kate to mention the cruise on Dr. Drew. Who knows if she did or not, because who knows if it'll ever air.
Cindy also isn't tweeting about the cruise quite as nonstop as she once was. Hasn't mentioned it in a couple of days. It's not like there are going to be hordes of Kate fans signing up at the last minute, that's not usually how these things work.
My prediction is that Alice Travel will have to release most of the cabins back to RC. Kate will probably still go (that was probably part of the deal), but she won't be making NEAR what she thought/hoped she'd be making off of it. Her four or five devotees will be thrilled, at first. Then they'll realize they're hardly ever seeing her, much less having slumber parties and painting each other's toenails.

I've seen interviews with several of the Little House kids and as a group they've done pretty well. Allison Angrhim always says how lucky she was. (Her sex abuse was by a relative and would have happened show or not). Michael Landon was overall pretty caring on set. Melissa Gilbert also talks about how the location of the set was helpful too. It's in Simi Valley, a good hour and a half drive from LA on a good day. The kids hardly ever went down to LA where other actors their age were drinking and partying. Simi Valley is just as middle America as anywhere else. It's not like LA at all. A lot of the adults on the show will speak very fondly of it even today. One thing he had was loyalty. When he loved an actor he would put them on the show over and over even if they played a different character. There is also a famous story about the actress who played Alice. She auditioned for Ma. He loved her so much but felt that she just wasn't quite right for Ma. So he wrote her into the script as his sister, but since his sister lived in Wisconsin she was only in one episode. So later on he completed invented a role for her as a family friend.
There are a few bad stories about it as people mentioned. Alison also talks about how people had a hard time separating her from the villain Nellie, which is exactly what we heard happened to Mady, per Aunt Jodi.
Landon also had a famous falling out with Victor French, Mr. Edwards, and he disappeared from the show. However they forgave each other and Mr. Edwards came back toward the end of the show and was in almost every episode and did a ton of directing. A touching lesson in friendship.
Overall I think that show has a nice story to it.

I'm watching Extreme Cruise Ships, RC's Oasis of the Seas. Kate's sheeple have no idea of the magnitude of the ship, which is a sister ship to the Allure. There are more than 6,000 passengers and 2,000 crew members all in one place. It is a zoo. It will be easy for her to hide from them! A mother showed up with her child, and there was no way they would let her board until she produced a notarized letter from the child's father.
I love Brandi Glanville for some reason. She calls it like she sees it and takes no crap. She was right when she told Taylor to let the man rest in peace.

CPS is involved and frankly, they don't get involved with celebs much here. For CPS to say they wanted both of them to take parenting classes to co-parent is a HUGE DEAL. That's something usually left to family law courts, co-parenting is usually not something CPS gets involved in unless the recognize true, true parental alienation going on. Depends if she gets a judge who believes in this concept. Luck of the draw.

Brandi is abrasive and inappropriate and at times embarrassing, but I think she has her moral compass working. Oh EM regarding Kyle. I don't have much to add about how she is. However, I do think how she is had a heck of a lot to do with her feeling like she had to "take care" of Kim. It can't be easy having a sister with the kind of issues that former child star does. She obviously loves her to death and feels very responsible toward her, and we have seen quite a few times Kim completely burning her. Their relationship is not unlike many family relationships where one is trying to help another with an addiction, only to be burned and double crossed and incredibly hurt in the end, because that's what some addicts invariably do to those trying to help.

I think that Kate got free services for a time. Kate had a big People cover showing her big "transformation" from the tellum to long hair. It was with Ted Gibson (and Jason) and all for mutual publicity. People was there to photograph and video the whole whoop-de-doo fracas.
Kate then started going to the salon repeatedly to get those extensions done over and over and over. She was photographed quite a bit. The salon was also featured during the episode where Kate and Jamie did NYC for Kate's birthday (so of course that was free).
Now that her hair is "all her own", and as time has passed, and as her show was cancelled, she gets less attention in NYC (unless she can wrangle press to take pics).
It makes sense at this point that Kate should pony up the money and Jason should cut the cord and not be at her beck and call.
So I guess her dark roots are showing? I can't believe she would still go to NYC unless the salon visit is free or hugely discounted. I hope Jason sets her straight. And maybe the real reason she wants time with Steve...never know about those salon patrons...they may attack her with hair spray! What she needs to do is let that straw completely grow out.

I have to confess that I do watch RHBH, but not the other housewife shows. I guess I just find their over the top lifestyles and social events entertaining. From the beginning I have disliked Taylor. I can't stand to look at her lips and her voice is very irritating.
HER accusations against Russell have never passed the "smell test" with me, not to say it's all lies. Taylor isn't consistent in her claims but two events stand out in my mind. In one of the early episodes of season one, she hosted an event about DV and gave a speech saying she had been a victim of DV in the past Russell was there and was proud of her and very supportive. Would this have happened if he was abusing her? The second event was when she was hospitalized with her eye and many people saying she had plastic surgery. Is the hospital not required to to contact police if they suspect DM?
Additionally, it is just wrong to write a book slamming a dead father and husband who can't defend himself. If they were having $$$ problems, why did she continue to spend so much on Kennedy's birthday parties, even renting out a ranch and buying a pony just before the separation. Maybe her excessive spending pushed them into pending bankruptcy! Sorry, but I just don't trust her, to say nothing of all of her name changes and the fact that she took Kennedy to her book signing, knowing the reasons for the book and that she would be having negative conversations about Russell with her fans. Kennedy would hear all of this and yet she says she has been protecting Kennedy?
If there is a season three of RHBH I would like to watch it, but don't know that I can unless Taylor is taken off the show.

A very close friend of mine also happens to be my hairdresser. For Christmas and for my birthday she gives me a free wash, cut and style. Anything more I want, I pay for. When I go in between times, I pay for it. That seems very fair to everyone, including her other customers.

Admin..ya u would have to watch to see Kyle manipulation behavior. She enables her sister yet puts the blame on Kim whenever someone calls out Kyle for her own behavior. it's always "Oh, I'm this way because I deal with Kims secrets" She uses Kim's addiction to excuse her own behavior. I know what is like dealing with an addict but Kyle uses it as a big martyr moment.
And sadly, I think it's Kyles treatment of Kim that makes Kim even worse. I feel for Kim...she was a child actor who's family took everything she made and it seems Kim has a lot of resentment about it. She even accused Kyle of stealing the house that their mother left them in the will (that Kim paid for). There is a lot of anger in Kim over her life.
I don't see how anyone can think being a child actor doesn't have repercussions. I also think being a reality child star could be even worse. At least actors are playing a role. Reality tv kids have their private space invaded and they are judged for their personal behavior, not their role. Can you imagine if you childhood was on tv? Your safe haven invaded? These narcissists who subject their children to reality tv have no idea what they are doing to their children's futures.
I firmly believe kids need to be kids..and not exploited and exposed for profit. And sorry Kate, your kids are COMMODITIES

Has anyone mentioned Mayim Bialik (Blossom)? She's on The Big Bang Theory these days. I don't think she was affected by all the glam of growing up Hollywood. She seems to have survived unscathed...no scandals, nothing. Attended to UCLA because she wanted to stay close to her parents but was accepted at both Harvard and Yale. Holds a PhD in neuroscience.
Such a refreshing change from most of the stories we read and hear about child stars.

That's why I don't get. Why can't she call? Why does she have to make it public, when she knows that she will just be called out for grifting and running to an expensive salon when she's been scheming for freebies? Why does the Twitter nation have to know that she's going to New York to get her hair done? Is it her way of staying relevant, shouting that she's still a celebrity?
She can't make up her mind what role she wants to play. The LEATHER SOFA, POOL, NOBU television personality/author, or the poor single mom with eight, count 'em, eight mouths to feed and no money. Right now she's in limbo.
Any word if the cruise hawkers have gotten the several hundred passengers they expected to jump on this wonderful opportunity?

My guess is that announcing her bedtime is just an easy way to satiate her sheep - easy small talk. It takes no effort at all, but it's enough to keep the tweeties coming back for more. I think it's lame and rather juvenile, but hey, it's Khate.
The hair salon thing is hilarious. It indeed sounds like her hairdresser is either annoyed or at the very least, isn't inviting further conversation w/Khate via Twitter. Thinking back, I wouldn't be surprised if Khate didn't pay a dime for any of her hair disasters. TLC comped most of it, and Khate got a few freebies for being Jason's test subject for some new technique of his. Like someone already said, if Khate wants to see him, she can call the salon HERSELF! I don't know what planet she's on, but I don't sit around waiting for my hairdresser to call and invite me over.

Either Kate has wisely saved and invested for her future or she will have to work for a living. If the first is true, please, please, just go away. If she needs to work, I have some advice I would like to share:
Kate, stop waiting for your agent to book you for a mall opening, or whatever z-list gig she can scrape up. You, who is "always 10 steps ahead" of everyone else, are the least resourceful person I have ever seen!
You have done at least one guest call-in show with Nina Frye, so you should be aware that she is sitting in home studio. You have said, via twitter, that you were interested in radio. Anyone who has an interest, the 'gift of gab', a work ethic and some money to invest in themselves can start their own radio talk show. Toginet provides all of the support services that you need to get started and maintain .
Stop "acting" like a mom, and actually be a mom. Stop waiting for someone to hand you a big role or gig and start scrambling like most unemployed people, who have been FIRED from their job do to support their family.
You think you can make it in media and you have what it takes to interview people---PROVE IT. Stop whining and show your kids that you meant it when you said that you would anything for them. You already have 70,000 people to invite to listen--oh, minus the the one you bought, the fake ones and the multiples created by your dedicated fans. Get Starbucks, Coffeemate and Target to advertise, get to work and prove that you can make it on your own, without exploiting your kids.
Personally, I don't think you have what it takes.

Kyle was a child actor too. Not to the extent that Kim was, but she appeared fairly regularly on Little House (playing Elisha Edwards) for several years. She also had a regular (bit) part on ER as an adult.

She needs low lights put into that hair. She looked so much nicer when she had darker hair with blonde on blonde tones. The Malibu Barbie look doesn't work for her. She also need several inches chopped off. She really wouldn't look bad if she did something with that mess on her head and knocked off the tanning.

Re: Kim and Kyle. I don't watch the show, but I enjoyed them as child actors.They were so cute and looked very much alike, with Kyle sometimes paying a younger version of a character Kim played...they look totally unrecognizable to me now. Sad- they were talented charismatic children.

That must be why she is frazzled this week, the laundry "girl" must be sick. I don't recollect her ever tweeting that she was doing laundry, until just recently. Funny in all the shows they never filmed her in the laundry room laboring over stains x8, even though it was always a subject matter repeated often on the show.
Also with all her talk about FUN, F.U.N., fun I don't recollect a single episode where she actually appeared to be having fun.
