Dance Moms, about a no-nonsense, abrasive Pittsburgh dance teacher and her young students, is turning into Jon and Kate Plus 8's biggest rival for Pennsylvania's most exploited kids. From ranking the girls in a pyramid each week, to filming the girls sad and crying when they make mistakes, to all the fighting that happens in front of the kids, this show is hot on our radar.
But turns out, even the star of the show admits a lot of it is fake.
When asked about the infamous pyramid, in which the same girl is usually on the top, dance teacher Abby Lee Miller told TV Guide:
I've never done that in my life. That has nothing to do with me. That's the show. They came up with that whole process. The whole pyramid thing was for the show because we could not do a new solo for every single child, and a new group and new duets and trios every single week. There's just not time available.
As for the constant competitions in which the girls have just a week to learn their routines, Miller said:
All these competitions we're attending, I've never attended in my life. Teaching children a routine in a hotel hallway that they are performing onstage the next day? That's insane. Nobody would do that.
But Miller does admit she likes the perks of a reality show:
For the first time in my life at my age, I was at a dance convention, not sleeping on a roll-away, not on an air mattress with seven other kids in my room, but I actually had my own room. I thought, at this point in my life, I have done amazing things and I have dedicated my entire life — I don't have a husband, I don't have children — to my students. And this involves me. And it's the only thing I've ever done for myself and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
So, real little girls living real lives. But, fake ones, sort of. A lot of it. Has Lifetime thought at all about the psychological implications this fake reality is having on little hearts and minds?

I just don't see what is in it for Jason Hueman to do kates hair for "practically free" as kate says. It's not like it's garnering media attention. Why give to an ungrateful grifter? If she can afford to truck her ass to NY for a haircut, she can afford to PAY him for his services.

Jason is busy with fashion week. I remember him getting mixed up with Michaele Salahi - the White Housse gate crasher. He was featured in a couple espisodes of RHODC. She and her hubby mixed in Jason and his BF in the Black Caucus Dinner where they implied to Jason that they had tickets, but then snuck in a side door- ultimately they were escorted out. Jason used to defend Micheale, found her interesting, but learned his lesson. With Kate, I think it's the same, finds her interesting. BTW Kate did say she was not comped (after the big makeover with T.Gibson and People, then she was) but rather was given a DEEP discount. at 950 a cut what would a "deep" discount be? Still expensive for a mom who apparently cannot afford socks for her kids. What? no Dollar Tree in PA? I agree she should return to low lights and a more caramel color with highlights. Much more flattering with coloring. Jason's got to be busy with the new Ft. Lauderdale salon.
I hope "Grifter Gosselin" (love the name!) had the good manners to give Jason H. a little Christmas tip AND in the correct amount; not like the windswept junk she left out for the sanitation people.
According to Miss Manners, the amount should be EQUAL to the cost of ONE hair appointment. For example, my hairdresser charges $65.00 for color and blow dry every two weeks; I inherited horrendously premature graying hair which started in high school!
So at Christmas, rather than just my regular $10.00 tip, I gave him $140.00. I know it's a lot of money, but he always does a great job and I want him to know how much I appreciate that. AND... Miss Manners said this is the MINIMUM for your hairdresser!
As for kHate, she doesn't even pay for her regular visits so I doubt she tips Jason at Christmas. Gee whiz, I'd just die of embarrassment if I were her.

I know the only thing that causes one suspicion is if you are living outside your means and it's noticeable. Several things Kate has that are noticeable.

If it looked out of this world georgous (sic) and fabulous, there might be some justification for the high cost of a cut and color, even though all she's paying for is the name and location where she gets it done. It's trendy.
However, her hair looks like crap, especially when she pulls it back with a headband and split ends are flying everywhere.
There are wonderful salons in the area who will do a much better job at the fraction of the price. I get mine cut and blonded and I'd match mine against hers any day. She couldn't be afraid of the publicity at a local shop -- she gets her tanning and nails done locally, why not her hair?
But then she couldn't hang out with Jason for bonding after her appointment.

Personally, I would go to a local private person over a cooperation or someone famous to cut my hair any day. Lady I go to has a small-town old world feel to it still. She knows everybody, she knows their kids, their grandchildren.
Someone famous is just that, someone famous. Nothing personal or individual about a cooperation either. A lot of girls where I live that's all they want to do is cut hair or do nails or a living. It's a good job if you're good at it.

I think how the IRS decides who to audit is pretty secretive, but there's a lot on the internet about what puts you at a higher risk for an audit, and KAte sure might hit a lot of them if she's not careful.

EM I see what you're saying about Kyle. I do watch this show. Maybe it's because I have a soft spot for Kim and Kyle because I loved them on Little House. Kyle had a recurring character. Kim played a child with a short leg once. They were both so sweet. They had problems with their parents, also, Kim's fiance was murdered. Not to mention being a part of the whole Hilton stuff.
I end up sort of feeling sorry for both of them. Kyle doesn't have the substance abuse issues Kim has, but she's not coming from the healthiest place either, and I do genuinely feel they both love each other, but that love is drowning in dysfunction I also firmly believe stems from their famous childhoods and famous family.
What I do see in both of them is women who have a lot of love to give and WANT love back, but need a heck of a lot of therapy to even begin to function in a healthy manner towards each other. Sad.

Admin: I agree with you 100%. When I was about 4-5, my mother had this woman who we would meet in the park, all the time. She had 9 kids and was about 29, (my Mom was 39), anyway: She invited, my mom & me to her house one afternoon. I was shocked, by how she kept house. You could see where the kids walked, the rug was dirty, and in spots had quarter of an inch dirt. The kids bedroom had mattresses on the floor(no proper beds) with a dirty pillow, and a blanket. Some years later I asked my mom why we never went back to her house: and my mother said, she was very young having children, had too many kids, was always frazzled, and was not a good house keeper. And my Mom said she did not want to pickup or bring home any extra pets. I remember, when we got home, my mother gave me a bath and then took one herself. My mom did ask her why she hardly had any furniture, or bedframes etc: her answer was: children are like animals, they break things, they dirty things, why should I spend money on nice things, and have them ruin it. I have to say the mattresses on the floor remind me of my dogs floor pillows/beds. That is a sad way to think and treat ones children.
I think the "contract til February" means that she still has certain expenses covered by TLC (Steve, hair, etc). They decided to cancel the show in August, so that gives her 6 months of comped services. I don't, however, think this keeps her from working elsewhere. She was pushing hard for a new show/paycheck "like, yesterday" in September, so it sounded like she was ready to jump on anything that was offered.
The fact that she denied that she's under contract--well, if she's available to work elsewhere, then she wasn't really lying when she said she's not. She had to rush and get one more hair appt on TLC's dime while she still could. The cancellation was announced on August 16 or 17, so if TLC gave her 6 months, then she needed to hustle if she wanted to take advantage of TLC one more time.
It's so funny that she's so full of herself for going to NYC for hair appointments. What a hick!

Well, I kind of doubt that a single phone call qualifies as stalking, and he hasn't impersonated any specific person. I think you'd have a lot of trouble taking any action based on what he reported in his Twitter feed.

Paying to have 4,000 pizzas delivered on someone's lawn, or to have 4 delivered without pre-payment, that can be a crime.
Sending a gift to a hotel room, not so much. If this happens every time Kate takes another of her expensive trips to NYC, then it might become actionable. In the absence of a clear threat, though, it might be very difficult to stop it.

Who knows what the point was, but it has been pretty clearly shown that Kate tweets much more frequently when she is with her kids, and wants to avoid interacting with them.
She reads the tweets, but probably not as they occur when she is not with the kids. She may not have eaten at fig and olive with her pink phone in one hand. She may be sharing her hotel room with someone other than her phone.
She may only see the tweets when she is back home again, or if she ends up alone on the way back from NYC.
Several people have suggested that this might be a wake up call for her to STFU. That may be the point, and it is not a bad one.
PS, she has tweeted in the past saying that she feeds the children treats fans send. Her grifting doesn't seem to have any limits.

She tweeted her thanks to the restaurant for amazing service three hours ago; two hours ago Walt confirmed that she was still at the restaurant, when the phone call was made. Something doesn't make sense, or am I reading this wrong? Did she tweet the restaurant while she was still there, before the meal was over?

Kate Moss's motto "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" is often used by the "pro-anorexics" as THEIR motto. Google "pro-anorexic" and you will see what this horrifying movement is all about - websites which actually promote anorexia as being the ultimate way to be. It is absolutely appalling that Kate Gosselin is using a similar motto. She obviously has no awareness at all as to what it means.

Zoe, forgive me for thinking this might be a shit-stirring comment. It's completely different than Kate's grifting. Kate is an able bodied woman who could work, who gets child support payments, who should have saved millions that she made, who apparently has plenty of money to jaunt off to NYC when the mood strikes.
The grandmother was struggling financially and about to have her house auctioned off. She was in other words NEEDY.
You're SUPPOSED to help the needy. That's not "grifting." You're not supposed to help the wealthy lying about being needy.
Grifting to me implies that you don't need something or could afford to pay for it yourself, but you just want something for free. It's very definition suggests money made dishonestly. Yup, that's Kate. Dishonest is not that lovely young boy helping his grandmother.

I personally don't think all beggers on the street are doing something wrong. This economy is horrible. 60 Minutes did a great piece a couple months ago about perfectly hardworking people resorting to begging while trying to get back on their feet. WHy is this wrong?

Absolutely. For the life of me, I can't understand that the sheeple think that this is perfectly acceptable. If they were in Kate's shoes, would they do the same thing? I think that the answer is "yes," and that just shows the cloth from which they were cut. They would exploit their kids, they would spend their kids' money, and they would get whatever they could for free because, hey, if someone is dumb enough to keep sending socks, candies, coffee makers, then why refuse them?
Many of them don't know any better. Kate, on the other hand, should know better and knows exactly what she is doing. She is their role model, and she can do no wrong, even if it means being dishonest to get what she wants.

Well, I guess my question is why should Kate know any better? My understanding is that she is very much like her father. (Locals, please feel free to correct me.) If this is a learned behavior, this sense of arrogance and entitlement, then it stands to reason she wouldn't know any better because she wasn't taught to.

You're right, his grandmother had given a lot to the community and was now needing financial help. But this story is still leaving a bad taste in my mouth.
There are multiple websites where anyone can tell their story of need and ask for help, and many are asking for themselves. And there are people responding to these requests. "Ask and you shall receive" seems to be more and more peoples' motto for getting through life.
I've become such a cynic that it's hard for me to stomach anyone's begging.
During all these rough times none of my friends or family has lost their job. And the only people I've personally known that lost their homes to foreclosure were people that took equity loans out to prop up their fancy lifestyles. Or the one very good friend that tried to become a landlord, failed miserably, and just walked away from both properties. My own sibling will surely join this list in another year because of an "interest only" mortgage and uncontrolled spending. (My parents and I were enabling this spending behavior with financial bailouts for several years. Do we let them hit rock bottom next year? I'm struggling with it.)
The news story about people making a decent living begging on the streets of our nearest city just fed my cynicism.

I've changed my opinion since my dad was laid off, softened somewhat. The man has done everything he possibly can to get back out there. He's applied to hundreds of jobs, gone to job fairs, gone to the VA, the works. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Thankfully my mom has a good job and they're fine, but if not for my mom, I wouldn't be upset if he had to beg once in awhile to make ends meet. It is rough out there.
I still see it as an apple and oranges thing. We're talking about people truly in need and whether it's okay to beg. Okay, that's one question open for debate. Kate is so far from truly in need it's laughable. There just isn't any question that certainly someone like her should stop taking freebies.

it that way anyway. The kids have always been props,

out the door or in someone else's care. Yep, many
