If the show was making $250,000 per episode and they made 150 episodes, isn't that a huge amount of money? I'm sure TLC made that much and more, but I really do have to wonder if that's not an exaggeration. I'm not defending Kate in any way, but how would we really ever know what they were dragging in, aside from the best-selling (and I use that term hestitantly) books she published, unless her accountant or banker ever leaked it.

I do think, between all the paid-for perks, the advances she got on the books, her DWTS money, and the money they got on speaking engagements and scammed from churches, that they ended up raking in a pretty penny (which then became Kate's money).

Auntie ann: I think the $250,000, started, when the show became Kate plus 8. And of that $250,000, 15% of that went to all 8 kids(per a court order or something like that). Before that the kids did not get anything, cause they were just playing for the camera.
I see there are birthday pics of the twisted one. There is one pic that sums up Kate, she is what looks like a fast food place, the look on her face shows her age and then some, it's a mean look old look. I've passed two kidney stones and yes it's horribly painful and they wouldn't give me pain meds right away because they thought it was my appendix and needed me alert to diagnose it. When they did the scan and saw the stone it took enough morphine to kill a small horse to put me out of my misery.
Sadly I didn't take pics, I didn't realize I would need them one day, but I did name one Doug.

Here's the thing I don't get about Kate. She obviously knows she's being photographed, judging by they one scary pic where she's giving the photographer the death glare. You would think that she would smile and at least make an attempt at looking like a friendly, likeable person. One that people would want to spend a few thousand dollars to go on a cruise to meet, and sit around sipping tea and getting to know. Instead she looks like a b!tch from hell. I guess she's more worried about keeping up with the same old "This is my life, it's so exasperating that I can't even go out and run errands without being hounded by paps" The woman has no common sense. But we already knew that.

I don't usually give a hoot about what Kate's wearing, but did anyone else notice her jeans? Looks like she dug them out of the clothes hamper and threw them on. They're all wrinkled, a little too big, and her right pocket is hanging out.

re: Matt Lauer interview- someone upthread said maybe Matt is gunning for more of a hard-nose journalistic job. I did read a couple of months ago that when his contract expires he does not plan on staying on the Today Show. So maybe he is trying to prove to someone that he can do hard hitting interviews. Still doesnt excuse him for being mean to Christie though, I've always liked her.
That picture of Kate proves to me that the human body needs fat in a diet. Compare the two pics (one at the top and the new ones)I assume she was eating like a normal person in the above one and now she looks like a miserable lollipop head. Not a good look.
Once a Viewer I also felt suicidal when I had my first stone, I wanted to die, and I have never even come close to feeling that way before. I get why people who are burning alive or whatever will shoot themselves. My second stone I knew what to expect and got pain meds right away so it wasn't as bad.
Also I could feel it fall from my urethra into my bladder like a really sharp needle stick which was BIZARRE, but then it's this instant relief.
By the way mine were caused by being extremely stressed and not taking care of myself and not drinking water. I was in law school. Drink up.
Trying to catch up on so many great posts. Oh, good God! Photos of a minor cut (who does that-a desperate someone who is trying to prove that she works hard, although she was probably cleaning up her own mess from cooking, as she is a complete spazz and tends to be careless in everything she does). CC cruise has only 20 or 30 people signed up for the Kate Cruise. Or are some cruising but did not sign up for the Kate cruise, and Cindy is counting these numbers? Even so, 20 or 30 not great numbers.
Kate did not publish or author books as she had ghost writers, going back to Beth. Not much talk about running a marathon, which is interesting as there were GREAT doubts she actually did the full marathon, after allegations of cheating for higher ups.
As far as Kate's finances, when Kate wanted the nurse for an extra year, she told the Court that sh\ed did not think she/Jon should have to pay for this, in spite of the fact that they had a house, and money from Jon's dad in the bank. She did not want to spend "THEIR" money. My point being that Kate fabricates to avoid spending "her money" on the kids. That would include her books, speaking engagements, DWTS, television interviews, Blog, CC, etc..as she did these tasks on her own according to her so that money is hers, all hers. Money earned from the show, in which the kids were featured, may be money she will actually spend on them. Otherwise, the kids will not have access to what Kate believes to "her" money, in spite of the fact that she is THEIR MOTHER and needs to support them.
At this rate, without "Kate's money," these kids will not be in private school much longer, unless she decides she does not want gossip about herself, based on the fact there is a higher level of privacy at this school.
Overall, she is circling the drain, and knows it. I do feel terrible for the kids, as I DO think she will ALWAYS put herself first. BTW- I believe the shoe closet is the kids, in the hallway. Kate will continue to hoard her belongings. NPD people suck big time.
I have a finger that got cut while gardening last week, and I raise it to Kate in a full salute.

The CT scan showed two more stones - one too large to pass but it's embedded at the top of my kidney and not likely to move ... but still, I think I'd like it out. Another smaller (2 mm) stone that should pass. And yes, as both you and Admin said, if I had been offered a way out, I'd have jumped at it. The pain struck at 2am in a Florida hotel room - if you're going to have a kidney stone move, I recommend doing it at home (or an ER!) I had to fly back to NY 2 days later and was in the ER the next day on pain meds. But, it's all down the drain now -- on to whatever life hands up next!
Admin - yeah - stress, not drinking enough, too much multitasking. My Dougie never made it to the bladder. That had to be a real strange sensation! Hope you never experience it again. And thanks for having a blog where even kidney stones can be a topic of conversation!

Lack of fluids aren't the only cause of kidney stones but a major one and I'm pretty sure it was for me.
I am terrible about drinking water. I get focused on something at work or wherever and won't drink for hours. My last kidney stone was over two years ago...this is what I've been doing. I buy the Crystal light flavored water packets and a reusable plastic cup with a straw. Then I put a small amount of crystal light in there to flavor the water slightly. Maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of the packet. It's enough to get me drinking it because it tastes good, but not so much that I'm drinking that Crystal Light crap all the time. I've also added other things to the water like fresh mint leaves (I too grow herbs on my porch), lemon, lime or a splash of cranberry juice.
I've learned that I have to many my water interesting to remember to drink it.
Who knew she shares a b- day with @LadyGaga. Who thinks @LadyGaga cares? Yep curling up early tonight, but you know she'll be back several times before it's really g'nite. Twat.
I have a brother in law that had a couple stones pass and the doctor told him to quit drinking iced tea because it causes them. :/
Yes caffeine is bad if you have kidney stones. I gave it up though for other reasons because it was making me feel shaky and sick, but it's good I did because it's bad for stones.

Out of curiosity I put the third picture in the pap pics from today side by side with the pic at the top of this page. I actually felt sad for her. Even though the pic at the top was taken just three years ago, she looks like she's aged 20 or more years. She was so pretty!
I believe that even if she tanned every day since then, she would still look prettier had she had no work done to her face. All the plastics and the long straight hair have ruined her face.

What amazes me is the difference in the pics when she is caught in NYC compared to the one's in her hometown. What's the difference, Kate? Does she think the people who look at the pics in NY are different than the people who look at the ones in PA? I really don't get it. Does she think only famous people see the pics from NY? I hate kidney stones. I have had them a few times. They are never large enough to cause a blockage. I have had a few hurt badly when they pass. I have had a few not hurt. I hate them all. Its uncomfortable no matter what. Currently, I am passing another one. Not too much pain, but it is slightly blocking the flow to the bladder. This causes me to go to the restroom more often.
I do drink more now. I hate regular water. I do like soda water so I tend to drink this throughout the day. I also drink lots of tea. I am not too concerned about the caffeine. My doctor told me that you still take in way more liquid then you expel from the caffeine.

We've seen Kate go off the radar in the past with no press coverage for ages and then, out of the blue, ramp up the mentions on RadarOnline when she was due to spring something on us. The recent twitter wars & ROL coverage reeks of deja-vu. The only thing I didn't like about the Hunger Games movie was the shaky filming effect. I saw it at the IMAX theater on opening night and it was so blurry. I think I'm going to see it again on a smaller screen and see if that changes things a little.
Jennifer Lawrence was incredible as Katniss, although I loved me some Lenny Kravitz as Cinna (yumm) :-P

Unless it's so low it's not covering her gas to rive there, it's always better to take a job even a low paying job. At least SOMETHING is coming in.
Plus, there's another reason to take a low paying job. It gets SOMETHING on your resume so you don't look like you haven't been working for ages and ages and can set you up to get a better higher paying job. I had a variety of jobs throughout high school and college some more glamorous than others but there is not a single one I regret because they all led to something else! Case in point I was a NON-PAID intern, but that led to a full-time job with a decent salary and benefits! Always ere on the side of taking the job.

This is off topic as well but I'm always late catching up on Celeb Apprentice but I know we were talking about how reality shows can really influence how the public perceives you. This was after a troll was trying to say DWTS made no different to Kate. I beg to differ.
Celeb Apprentice is notorious for hurting or helping the general perception of a celeb. On this season in particular most people seem pretty nice. I've learned Clay Akin really is as sweet and genuine as he seems. And Penn Teller is an arrogant a-hole. The Argentinian models on the girls team are pretty dumb. And Debby Gibson is living in the past to an embarrassing degree. It's all things you would just never be able to observe if not for the interesting medium that is celeb reality tv.

Dallas Lady--Not trying to be difficult, but I have a couple of comments on your statements. A couple of other comments have said that Kate pulled $100,000 out of her house. When did this happen?
Earlier this year, she refinanced her old mortgage, which was originally $720,000. The new mortgage was reportedly $662,00, which means that she either put down an additional $58,000 or took out a second mortgage--which would be the opposite of taking out money. I think that the reason for the lower mortgage amount may have been to qualify for a conforming loan, which is set annually by Fannie Mae on a regional basis. Loans that are higher than the conforming loans (also called jumbo loans) have a higher interest rate--it is common to take the conforming loan and take a second mortgage or line of equity for the rest.
The term "upside down" means that more is owed than the house can be sold for, not that the home has dropped below what is paid. I doubt she is upside down, since the loan was very recent--therefore, the appraisal is very recent.
Banks will not loan out more than the house is worth, and, will no longer loan out 100% of the appraised value, as they had done in the past. So, the house probably appraised, at the very least, at the loan principal ($662,000), plus 20% ($124,000), which would be around $786,000. If the house appraised for more, she may have either put more down, or taken out a second mortgage or equity loan.
Also, banks don't loan money without sufficient income or assets (real ones--not just in her fantasies). Again, the mortgage was very recent, so, she had to be showing enough income or assets to satisfy the bank that she had the ability to repay the loan--even post-Kate+8.
Is there some other record that she took $100,000 out in a refinance? I thought that the $720,000 was the original mortgage.

Berks, I saw it twice on the small screen. I can't do IMAX because it makes me feel nauseous. The movie on the smaller screen was also very shaky in the beginning up through, I think, the reaping. After that, it got much steadier and easy to watch.
I agree with you about Jennifer Lawrence and Lenny Kravitz. And the film is definitely a very timely commentary about our world today, especially given the Occupy Movement and the disturbing state of reality TV.
I think the S.O.S. from Khate is a bit unrealistic. She'd have to actually have a soul to ask someone to save it.

Pressi has a great closeup shot of Kate's face. It is sooo gross. It's the one where Kate is skoweling at the pap. It is so obvious that she's had so much botox it's not even funny. Her mouth looked swollen & the crease lines don't look normal. The frown lines between her eyes are gone too.

That was really an eye opener for how much control TLC wields and how much the Duggar patriarch and matriarch allows them to get away with (the story can be found on Duggars Without Pity).
Starz22, you made the comment that the Duggars are under contract, and while this was not an excuse it would help to understand their position. I respectfully disagree. Jim-Bob and Michelle do not strike me, for the most part, as stupid people. They have enough experience, I feel, to make sure they have representation going into contract negotiations and that their wants and needs are written into said contract. I mean, Jim-Bob was a state legislator! I would hope he'd have a basic grasp of the law.

About a week ago, I posted about total admiration and gratitude to Hospice services. Angels entered our life. I know there are others here who required their special care for longer than we have. But, our blessings from Hospice ended early this morning.

He started out supporting childrens camps. It its very clear on their website, all profits after taxes are given to charity thru the Newmans own foundation. The Newmans own organics is a separate company that pays royalties to the foundation. They even have info on grant applications on the website.
I remember an interview Paul Newman did years ago.he had plenty of money, did not feel he needed any more, and wanted to make sure he did some good for people who needed help.this was one way.

Ha ha! You both crack me up! I have found that when someone accuses you of thinking highly of yourself, things get fun if you just agree with them. I recently had a run-in with someone in our school district. I didn't know the person AT ALL, but she has a reputation of being mean and nasty. Because my husband is a school administrator, she said to me "You just think you're better than everybody else!" My reply was, "No, I don't think I'm better than EVERYBODY, just some people." It left her speechless.
Even if Kate was dropping off a job application, that doesn't mean she would be a care giver. Those jobs are usually filled by aides and LPNs. It most likely would be for a supervisory job of some sort, not actual care thank God.

Step away from the computer. Go outside and play in the dirt. Visit a neighbor. Read an Agatha Christie novel, any of them are good. Go see a movie with friends or family. Take the dog for a walk. Exercise. Smell the flowers! Send a thank you note to someone who has done something nice for you!
Spring cleaning, here is some practical advice: fine one thing i'm your house that has been annoying you, like a pile of papers or one thing that needs repair, something little. Take the time to clear that space or do that one repair right now. I guarantee you will feel better!

To follow up from Christie Brinkley's interview yesterday, of course her ex, Peter Cook, had to respond today.
Shockingly (not), when asked why is he responding if they're both supposed to not talk about it, both legally and for the sake of the kids, he said (deja vu all over again), that he's not the one saying anything.... he's just "responding" to what's out there.
I think he and Kate should hook up.
Oh, and his narcissism actually works in his kids favor because it causes him to focus on them.
I'm no expert, but what?? Seriously?
Anyway, you have to see it so go the the Today Show's website or check it out on the west coast a bit later.
Oh, and Happy Birthday Kate. I may not like her, but today I feel a touch of feeling for her predicament, self-imposed or not.
That face of hers scowling is the real deal in spite of all the Botox. I would love it if one of the rags ran a before pic and that scowl shot for the birthday girl. She has totally ruined herself.
And the speculation that she was dropping off a job allocation is absurd. The photo captured her leaving a tailor shop. Makes perfect since since her jeans are falling off her. Must be getting one of her prom dresses taken in.

This is an old standby and doesn't take much effort:
Cake Mix Cookies
1 boxed cake mix (any flavor, any kind)
1 egg
1/4 cup oil
1/4 cup water
optional:
You can add spices if you want or other ingredients like
oatmeal (about 1/2 cup)
chocolate chips
toffee chips
craisins w/ 1tsp cinnamon
I'm doing a yellow cake mix w/ toffee chips for my toffee loving family.
Mix all ingredients together.
Drop on greased cookie sheet about 1 inch apart and bake in a 350 degree oven (preheated) for around 15 minutes.
Cool on rack and enjoy!

So sorry, Dmasy. Health Fairy (161), my eight year old has a G-tube (feeding tube in abdomen, for those who are fortunate enough not to know). The first week of recovery was rough for sure, but it has been so helpful for him; hopefully it will be for you as well.
dmasy: add my sincere condolences to you & your family. I'm glad your FIL was in hospice for his last days, much better than an impersonal busy hospital ward.I know your good memories will sustain you all in time. He will be missed but will leave a glow within all your hearts.

I agree Meagler. Kate has what a friend of mine calls the "bus driver, factory worker look." I have nothing at all against bus drivers and factory workers, but where I live a common look for blue collar women is the year-round tan, bleached hair, fake nails, and a general hard look that I think comes from trying to look young when you no longer are. I don't get why women think it's a good look. I guess certain types of men think it's hot. Who knows?

Finally got a chance to look at the scary new pictures of Kate. If she just got her hair done, why are the roots so dark on the sides and underneath in the back? It looks like the roots were only touched up in the front. Either she didn't really see Jason and she tried to do it herself at home or he's doing a pretty bad job, but that does not look like recently colored hair.
Also, she should have left those sunglasses on the whole time she was out. Yikes. If I saw someone coming at me with that evil look on her face, I'd jump out of the way and fast.

I was at the hospital waiting for my dear husband to have tests when I saw the interview with Matt and Christie. Felt so sorry for her. Why, oh why didn't she get the velvet glove version they all have given Kate G? Even let Kate go on and on with Natalie Morales, remember? Wasn't that an hour long of her fake tears, fake bills, whining about her brother. Who in the world decides who gets pampered and who gets throttled on these programs?

I was thinking about this also. The twitter flame outs she has on a regular basis that are getting more frequent and more intense - if it were ANYONE else, the media would be openly speculating about chemical abuse or mental health issues. At first I thought perhaps they are hands-off with her because of pity for the kids, but even if Nadya Sulemon were acting this way, I really believe there would be talk about her having a hard time mentally functioning.
Then again on the other hand, the media starts these rumors with "Friends say..." and we would all know that it's lies coz Kate doesnt have one single friend or family member that is speaking with her or cares if she acts an ass in public.

Oh my dear Lord! I just took a look at those close up pictures of Kate (at Pereesi's site) and she does look a scary mess. Even pulled back you can see the damage and breakage in her hair from the over processing. I'm sure that the kids pray to see the smiling Barbie mommy coming at them rather than that scowling Medusa face. Yes, I'm pretty sure that if you see that face up close and personal you might just turn to stone.
Happy Birthday Kate and my gift to you is to tell you to watch a couple of episodes of America's Next Top Model and learn how to do "ugly pretty" when scowling for the camera because you're just coming across as pretty ugly.
I cannot get over how much younger she looks in the picture at the top of this thread when compared to those recent photos.

Those pictures of sweetness and light Kate might chase a mob away, for sure, but they are equally likely to create panic in anyone who came across her, so I guess she's not all that thoughtful! LOL.
