Lifetime swiffers controversial Dance Moms episode

The 'Topless Showgirls' episode, which scored the best ratings the show has ever had, was so exploitive it has all but disappeared from the airwaves
Mom Melissa Ziegler was shocked about the routine,
although she didn't forbid her kids to participate.

Maybe networks are finally listening to casual viewers, child development experts and even celebrities (Katherine Heigl, no less!) about protecting reality T.V kids. When the public expressed outrage over an episode that featured the famous Dance Moms girls in risqué Showgirls costumes that bared so much skin even their pushy moms were mortified, Lifetime quietly did something about it. The episode did not re-air tonight as it normally would have just before the premiere of the new episode, is no longer available on the Lifetime web site (the latest full episode was always available for viewing online following the air date), it has been pulled from Hulu and other similar sources, and is difficult if not impossible to find on Youtube. Radaronline still has a clip of the routine, but we expect that to disappear soon as well.

Here's what prompted Lifetime to do something about the horrible mistake they made airing this episode:
Psychologist Rachel A. Sussman said: "Forcing a child to dress and perform in a provocative way can have wide spread negative effects. If you put a child into an adults-only situation (where they clearly don’t belong), they may be very confused about their developmental stage and their sexual identity. It can cause depression, anxiety and low self esteem. Furthermore, they may have trust issues. Also, they are receiving very poor parenting, which can set them up for a lifetime of negative attachment issues."
Actress Katherine Heigl said: "I kept thinking all these girls were missing is a pole! I was also horrified by the way their instructor spoke to them when she felt they weren’t up to snuff. It was demeaning, belittling, and downright unkind. My daughter was in the room at the time as was my mother and I kept looking over at my perfect, innocent and beautiful child wondering how can I protect her from what the world is becoming. It terrifies me, the amount of value we place on a woman’s looks, body, and ability to drop it like it’s hot on the dancefloor. It’s one thing to walk into a club and see twentysomethings embracing their sexuality and having some fun, but it’s another thing altogether watching seven-year-olds shake their booties, bellies, and nonexistent boobies on a stage in a room full of adults and be handed a trophy for it. What in the world are we telling them? That sexy is the prize and is the talent they have?"
Psychologist Dr. Nancy Irwin: “As a treatment professional of sex offenders, I can tell you that adults who are attracted to minors definitely seek out shows just like this to whet their appetites. They may attend the shows in-person, watch them on TV and seek out Facebook still photos and YouTube clips to pleasure themselves. The sexual body movements are more concerning than the costumes.”
Journalist Daisy Dumas: "Lifetime's Dance Moms has hit new lows by asking its child contestants - the youngest of whom is just eight-years-old - to dress in nude bikinis and perform a burlesque routine on stage. The raunchy dance moves are usually the domain of striptease experts, the X-rated acts brimming with nudity, nipple tassels and sexually explicit poses."

Human behavior expert Patrick Wanis, PhD: “This condones, encourages and motivates adults to imagine little girls dancing naked for their pleasure. Of course it will arouse pedophiles and offer them a new legal avenue to engage in their lustful thoughts as they watch the little girls ‘nude’ on television.”

I didn't realize this show scored their best ratings until I read some articles.

Ms heigl has a reputation for being difficult to work with on the set of Greys anatomy. But God bless her for speaking passionately and with so much obvious respect and love for her daughter. Heartwarming.

Somebody at lifetime has half a brain. Only half as they did originally air the trainwreck. The sensible half brain was paying attention to all the criticism.
There is another trainwreck on the way, on logo of all channels! dd (18) and I were watching rupauls drag race Monday, and saw an ad for ” Edens world” or something like that. I think it is a toddlers and tiara spin off. They showed the ad at almost 10 pm, on a channel aimed at gay men primarily, during rupauls drag race which is a drag queen competition (and such a fun show! Where else would you see characters named jiggly caliente or Sharon needles?) what its the demographic they are going for?
Thanks for keeping us updated, admin. Love all the comments when I get chance to read them.

Oh - just in case anyone missed this- Ms. Kreider is still boring. Boring twits, boring tempest in a twitfest, just boring. Embrace your mediocrity, and enjoy blooming flowers, a walk with the dog, listening to frogs at night start up their springroutine!

Joy, they never should have filmed or aired such a thing. But I agree with you about the half a brain part. At least Lifetime was able to say okay guys we really screwed up here we need to do something about it. An apology would be nice too, but at least it will be hard to see this episode again for anyone with ill intentions.

TLC aired whatever they dang pleased no matter what the criticism. They didn't give one flying flip what people were trying to tell them. They hired lawyers to defend against Rep Murt instead of saying hey how can we work together on this so everyone is happy and protected? They never once took responsibility for anything, not even Bill Blankinship. They blamed him on their contracted production company. In many ways TLC and Kate were made for each other.

Katie I've never heard anything good or bad about Katherine Heigl but you should click on the link in her name to read her whole blog about this because it's good. She also talks about how she was watching Dance Moms with her mother and her mother said no one EVER talked to you the way Abby talks to these kids this is not necessary!

Just like what so many of us have said here who either did dance or sports or gymnastics or something similar. There are many coaches out there who train high caliber athletes even Olympians who never, ever disrespect a child like that. I was glad to hear someone in the business say the same thing.

They have also pulled two other episodes from amazon and itunes. The first is from last season, episode 2. In this episode, the girls dressed as strippers and were grinding on stage. The other episode is season 2 episode 8. It was also pulled from the lifetime website. This is the episode where the girls are wearing "wedding dresses". The dresses looked like something a stripper would wear.

I am shortening my user name from Best stuff in life is cheep to best stuff in life.

This is disgusting.

Once again, adults are putting aside common sense for fame.

Shame on the parents, shame on the dance instructor, and shame on Lifetime.

Wow,
Just watched a clip of the is show "crotch, boobs, crotch, boobs" These are the instructions given by Abby, that Dance "teacher" about where to put the fan.
Nothing like making young girls feel like body parts on display. Where are the tv censors here? How many young girls have been abducted, molested and killed and how many will be before this culture of exploitation of children is stopped.

Hughe Dillon is an IDIOT...he's now kissing her butt and has proven himself to be a liar...he and Kate are in good company.

He stated he decided not to publish the controversial picture because it was too intrusive and is now stating the picture of Kate w/ the tarot-card reader is the "controversial" picture he mentioned.

How in the world this guy has a blog or a column is mind blowing. That piece sounds like it was written by a 10-year-old and is so full of all kinds of errors that it's nothing short of pathetic.

He is also woefully uninformed regarding Kate Gosselin and totally missing the point of this blog.

Just an FYI... I checked late last night and Comcast is still carrying the episode on "On Demand." I don't know how much say Lifetime has about that.

I've kept up some during a long drive. Our family visited Harry Potter World and Universal Orlando a few days during spring break. Darn, I tried every way possible to get the kids to pay for the trip or to sell them out somewhere along the way, but it just didn't work. :) (For the trolls: just kidding.) We'd never been to Orlando. Even though it was expensive, the kids had so much fun that it was worth every penny.)

My oldest daughter, a recent college grad, happened to borrow my phone while this blog was up. She said, "I only saw the word 'Kate'... Are you still following THAT WOMAN with all those kids? Why? She's HORRIBLE!" LOL.

Gift of grab said... 12

JudyK, but don't you think his last paragraph is interesting? He seems to take it as a given that Kate and Steve are a couple. And he has seen them in action up close before, last year when they were filming the Philly episode.

I think that what he doesn't get about the whole "Kate lovers/haters" situation is that it's not only the child exploitation that people have a problem with, it's the constant LYING. The hubris of showing certain behaviors in public that don't jibe with what comes out of her mouth.

Anyway, that was the most curious part of this for me. Others will no doubt have their own interpretation of his comments.

Gee, Kate, I posted yesterday why don't you do warehouse shopping anymore, and lo and behold, you just happened to do it the same day.
I guess she had to read here first, to determine what she needed to dispute and execute.
Glad I don't watch Dance Moms. Just the thought of it makes me want to retch.
Wonder how far these type of shows will have to push past the acceptable boundaries before legislature is enacted?

"If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then Steve and Kate are dating people."

This is the only thing in Phillychitchats article that mattered to me. Kate has been exposed for her lies and affair with another womans husband. Jon was right. I wonder how she feels being a homewrecker to two marriages? Oh, that's right, it's Kate we're talking about. Kate cares for no one but herself.

pamelajo said... 16

When you bring someone home, or as the case may be, to every event in your life under the pretense of being and employee, but you act as a dating couple. You throw your childrens father out...what do you think these kids think? Especially when you do not need a bodyguard in the first place. Do people think kids are dumb?

Kat said... 17

I thought she was working her fingers to the bone to support her kids? Am I missing something or is running a "job"? It doesn't sound like she does anything all day...except getting ready for her next charity event. Why do her sheeple keep saying how hard she works? AT WHAT?????? She's probably going back to bed when the kids leave and then she do a long run. How is that "making a living"? I wish I could ask her myself....I honestly want to know...

NJGal51 said... 18

Hughe Dillon is an ass but he makes his living as a freelance photographer and he wants to continue to do events in the Philly area and one bad word from the RC could put a damper on that. That's my guess as to why he's changed his tune. I would have had much more respect for him had he just come out and said that the RC asked me to drop the matter so I will. Yes, he kissed her ass but he also got in some sly little digs and did at least call her "D List celebrity sliding into obscurity". I think that the day is coming when Kate will butt heads with the wrong person and will have no one to make it go away. Did she intentionally buy those shoes a size larger than she needs or did they come as a freeby with the dress? Those must have been uncomfortable to walk in.

JudyK said... 19

Gift of Grab, yes I think that last paragraph is interesting. What was more interesting to me was that he said the comment about Steve having his arm around her was in a private email to RadarOnline and that it wasn't supposed to be published.

I emailed his blog early this morning and told him his article was full of errors. He didn't publish my comment (much more extensive than that), but did come back with an added disclaimer that he was glad he had an editor because he wrote the article in a hurry.

I just sent him a list of partial corrections he needs to make, so, for those of you haven't read his article yet, it should be somewhat cleaned up by the time you get to it. There wasn't enough room to list all of the errors. Or he may just trash my corrections. I think the first viewing of this piece, where he made the remark about RadarOnline, may now be missing.

How can you be tired from buying and 'organizing'- wtf? soup and juice? I thought she was so fit?

I did watch Dance Moms to see if it was any better- I did like the show until last week's burlesque routine. It is so scripted that I don't feel that Abby is really as 'mean' as she appears. Maybe television has found that 'mean' sells. It seemed there was damage control.all the dances were appropriate and the main dram was over one girl's' warts and another who froze during her solo but she was able to do it over successfully. Still,I am now wary of this show and not a fan.

Pam said... 21

This is really no different than TLC airing footage of the Gosselin kids being potty trained, bathed, and changing clothes on national tv.

I still see poor Collin sitting outside on that potty chair with his pants down around his ankles.

Where was all the outcry about that outside of naysayer blogs? Why weren't celebrities speaking out about that?

It was wrong. Just plain wrong. And that footage is still out there and always will be.

But I guess since Kate got trips and cash out of it, that makes it ok.

NJGal51 said... 22

Oops, didn't finish my thoughts. I'm sure that Kate is happy that there are no compromising pictures but if she really reads the article I don't think she'll be quite as happy. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck. Quack, quack, Kate. Quack, quack.

JudyK said... 23

Still there, as are all the errors:

"The bit about her and the Steve walking with his arm around her was not intended to come out. I said it in a private email with Radar Online who wanted the link to my photos."

We are criticizing the TV network which allowed this garbage to air - and rightly so - but what about the mothers of these girls? If somebody told me that my child's dance routine was a scantily-clad burlesque show, I would say 'over my dead body'.
John Ramsey - the father of Jonbenet, the 6-year-old kiddie beauty pageant who was murdered 16 years ago - recently gave an interview to ABC. He said that he deeeply regrets allowing his daughter to take part in these pageants and said that parents should never put their children on public display. The case has never been solved, but he obviously thinks his child was killed by a pedophile who noticed her in her public appearances.

Pity Party said... 25

I forgive him for taking the middle road. I take him for his word - if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck it is a duck People. He should have just kept quiet about it and he could be set for life with the money shot that he STILL has.

I don't think he had any idea that she would behave the way she did and the amt of hate that she provoked in people and the few people who think it is okay if she makes her children work so that she can live a lavish lifestyle. 12,000 people on Yahoo (not twitter) cannot be wrong.

He did show the worst shots her of in closeup, no less. How unprofessional for her to engage in a twitter war with a pap. This will not serve her well in the future.

She dodged the bullet and seems to be in high spirits and may even actually work herself up to do a run sometime today. We have seen the pap shot of her running/trudging down the road and they look nothing like the shots of her crossing the finish line of a 26.2.

To add to your comment, Barbara-

John Ramsay:

"I see her, you know, in shorts and t-shirt and hair kind of scruffy and just kind of a kid.

It's very bizarre. And, it certainly - Patsy and JonBenet didn't approach it that way. We - they just did it for fun.

Patsy's mother later told me that a strange man approached the car during the parade and it made her uncomfortable. I think about these things now and it makes me cringe. We were so naïve. I now believe with all my heart that it's not a good idea to put your child on public display.

Only because, that possibly might have drawn attention to us. I don't know. But, I think for advice to a parent is just recognize that regardless of where you live, there could be evil around you. And- and don't be naive about it. And keep your kids protected."

I think it would have been better for Kate had pictures of her with Steve's army around her been published. She could have gone on the "we didn't want it to happen but you can't stop true love" tour, dab at eyes and smile through tears at Steve who is off stage. As it is, this twitter war was hardly a blip on the radar. Yes, a couple of online sites ran the story but otherwise, meh. Ya missed the boat on this one Kate because you're still fresh in peoples minds but when it eventually does come out, no one will care becasue you're a "D List celebrity sliding into obscurity".

This chick is bi-polar, one day it's too expensive to do ____ (fill in the blank), the the next day she is chirpy chirpy yakking about running, which earns no money.

He's lying. He said he had a shot that would be seen all around the world and dropped hints about putting out a fire. Fire and putting it out have no meaning when it comes to tarot cards. But it does have a meaning when referring to a cigarette, or a steamy love affair.

The guy backpedaled, the guy got spooked no thanks to the psychos on twitter (as someone said he should have just published it and asked questions later) and we'll probably never know now what this photo was. But I don't believe for a second it was tarot cards, does he think we are stupid?

If not for the meltdown he prompted out of Kate I would probably be really mad. This whole incident still had value for exposing how mentally ill she really is.

silimom said... 36

Pink and Barbara - I think these Dance Moms allow it for a variety of reasons, including the fact that they know this is going to generate attention. But I also think that for a few it's because they have gotten in over their heads and don't think they can say "no". Some may have and then been bullied by producers, e.g. "You signed a contract! You have to let us film this", etc. There was an interesting recap of the Duggar Wedding filming from Anna Duggar's brother-in-law that really showed how pushy and outright bullying these producers can be.

These moms may also feel guilty when pushed like that as well and back down. And before anyone goes off, I am not excusing or defending these women, the teacher or the show. I am trying to understand why something like this happens because I too would sure as heck not let my children do that type of dance, reality show or not.

Reality TV is just evil in my opinion and should be banned. I don't say that very often but in this case I think it would be the best thing for society.

She continues to really alienate people. For many of her hard-working mommy fans, when the sun is shining that means.....Um, they still have to go to work, shuttle the kids around, make dinner, and do all the other household duties. And maybe if they are LUCKY they'll get five minutes to themselves at the end of the day to do something they want to do--and will fall asleep doing it.

White organza said... 38

Well, well, well,,, Lifetime quietly swept the offensive show under the carpet of TV neverneverland? If so.. then maybe the tide IS turning. I just read that in a recent parliamentary report, French senator Chantal Jouanno is calling for a ban on children beauty pageant. "Dressing up as sexual candy is contrary to the dignity of the human being and is a step backward for gender equality." The report was written after the general outcry that followed the scandalous Vogue photo shoot picturing 10 yrs old girls in very suggestive poses... So maybe, -just maybe-, blogs like this one here eventually could lead to better laws against children exploitation on reality TV. We can hope.

Westcoaster said... 39

Am I the only one here who thinks she twats more about running than she actually runs? But yes, that certainly fills a day and pays the bills. Not. Her blog provides no income, and I rather doubt the check from CC is large. The grifting brings her 'stuff', the child support, in her words barely buys lunch. WTF does she do all day?

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 40

I'm not defending them either but I think the reason I don't talk about the dance moms much is because they will always be here. I think the problem is we could go on and on about how it's all the mommies fault, but we can't do much to change it. If a mom wants to take her kid to dance class she can and moms will still be taking their girls to dance class a hundred years from now. I doubt anything earth shattering is going to happen to shut down such dance classes. And it is true the dance moms aren't always so black and white, there are many times when they are unsure about things and some of the kids have even been pulled from dances before because moms were uncomfortable. For instance Holly didn't want her kid to play the part of a bully in a dance.

But filming this all for all the pedophiles out there to see IS something that we might have a chance to change. The more pressure the public puts on Lifetime the more likely they are to change. I think it's very significant they pulled this episode and I think it speaks to how we do have the power to make changes. Maybe this sort of thing might renew interest in Rep Murt's bill. They're in PA. Maybe there also needs to be a provision about how reality tv kids can't be shown in certain states of undress. There is potential here for real changes.

I was wondering, can anyone just walk into a dance competition and watch? It seems to me this would be a pedophile playground.

Does something like this (backpedaling) affect his reputation within the freelance/photog world? or is it par for the course with such things? I don't really know how that works.

No, this is not par for the course. The photojournalists I've known working in journalism take the photo and PUBLISH the photo and don't yammer about it or gloat or tease and have the highest standards of ethics.

The photojournalists I know aren't AFRAID to publish a photo because someone might be mad.

What a tool that guy is. "Kate is going to hate me for it" ????????

Why would she hate him for a Tarot Card reading photo?

He definitely backpedaled. He knows damn well he teased like nobody's business that he had dirt on her, and now he's wants us to believe that WE are the ones who jumped the gun thinking it was something bad, so now we are just bad people who need a life.

And he wants us to believe he had no idea Steve was married and Gina has had to put up with the affair rumors for years? Yeah right. That tool knows darn well Steve is married.

My guess is, he just flat out lied about having an incriminating photo. He never had one. Sure, Steve may have had his arm around Kate ( I truly do believe they are a secret couple ), but he had no incriminating photo of anything. And instead of owning up to his lie, he decides to make the naysayers seem like bad people for wanting one in the first place.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the philly guy had a photo he decided not to publish because he tweeted on Monday am to Schmecky that he didn't publish it because "it was too invasive."

However he DID write and publish a picture about a napkin catching fire from a candle at one of the tables. That was hype. You know fire...at a fireman's ball and all that. He thought it was funny. I highly doubt Kate's dress was on fire or all the other silly speculations about Kate and a fire.

HughE seemed to really get po'd about this tweet:

Molly Swanson ‏ @Mom2Twins67 wow its so uncool for @kateplusmy8 to call @iphillychitchat a fat slob, then rush to delete her tweet, thank god i screen shot it

He mentioned it in one of his tweets yesterday. The funny thing is "Molly" never tweeted again, only had 3 tweets to begin with, never produced the screen shot, never answered the tweets asking to see it and I never saw Kate tweet "fat slob" but apparently it became the gospel truth.

HughE is a non-professional, writing (incoherently) about a has-been and everyone is glued to the drama. Sad.

OT but I know this blog has discussed Jaycee Dugard and her story before. I pulled a couple paragraphs from an article I was reading about here and pasted them below. What an amazing woman she is and what great choices she is making for her children. If only some other mothers felt the same way this blog could happily go away.

"Kidnapping survivor Jaycee Dugard made her first public appearance over the weekend at a star-studded New York awards ceremony, but she plans to remain in hiding until her daughters are mature enough to understand what happened to them, she said in a recent interview.

"I want my girls to have a normal life as much as possible," she told ABC News' Diane Sawyer. "I feel like on some things I have to do it a little bit differently ... not be recognized ... for their sake."

My take on the Philly Blogger, HughE.
1:The Fire that was put out: the picture of the woman who's napkin caught fire from a candle and they doused it with some 'non-grain' alcohol. (per his column)
2:His backpedaling: HughE does have a photo. I will bet my last nickle on it. He was reprimanded for bragging about it and testing the waters.
3: He walks a thin line between Paparazzi and Photojournalist/Blogger: RC nixed the photo and in his article he set up his excuse for his remark about "the bodyguard having his arm around Kate" as being said in what he thought was a confidential email to Radar Online. Probably fishing for information regarding the possibility of selling the photo.
He has to have an excuse to the comment being released if he wants continued access to these Gala's and events in the Philly area.
4: His reprimanding the haters: Someone is still protecting Kate. HughE now paints her as a pathetic lost soul who has all these wolf-hounds nipping at her heels. He knows the truth about who she is. He's trying to protect his own a$$. Granted, the haters on twitter are pretty vile, but they pose an avenue for the truth.

So you are okay with young girls being sexualized and dressed in costumes intended to give the illusion of being naked as long as they get to go to Miami and have some FUN? I recall having plenty of fun as a child, and I didn't have to gyrate half-naked on stage.

Since we are on the topic of running and the Red Cross ball, I am still looking to see if Kate does The Red Cross 5K run in Philadelphia on April 21st. This would be an opportunity for Kate to show her support for this very worthwhile charity. She could include the twin who also loves to run, which one eludes me at the moment. Or does her support for the Red Cross begin and end with wearing a fancy dress and going to a ball?

Westcoaster said... 67

I imagine Kate will not be running the RC 5K if the RC is not paying for her supreme presence. Her support at the ball was a grifted dress, a comped ticket at someone's paid for table and a $0 contribution from her pocket. That is how she rolls.

When She Played Her Charade said... 68

It is possible that the only reason these sheeple continue their undying love for Kate is that she's "reachable." She has been a celebrity, and so they latch on to her because she's not entirely a nobody in the entertainment world, and it's the closest these sheeple can come to "knowing" a celebrity.

They get a response from her when nobody else would bother with them, and for sheeple, it gives them a sense of being somebody, to be able to say that they have relationship with her, she knows them, and they believe that they are best friends. They feel that they are worthy because she keeps them informed of her daily life, asks advice (where can I find a menu board, where is there a marathon run) and makes them feel that they are so very important to her.

It's sad, but really the only life they have. It gives them a feeling of importance and therefore they continue this charade because they need it to feed mediocre selves. I wonder if they do find her absolutely AMAZING (their favorite word), or if some of them do question some of the things that she does, but are so far gone in their adoration of her that they have to keep up their worship in order to save face among the other sheeple.

Celebrity admiration isn't necessarily a bad thing, but when it gets to the point that this comprises their entire lives, this devotion can become something sinister. I don't understand these rabid sheeple who defend her to the ends of the earth, thinking that they need to punish haters and go to the extent that they do. This is the mark of someone who is mentally unstable, and could turn dangerous at any time.

Dallas Lady said... 69

To answer a question asked above, yes, anyone can go into the ball rooms/conference rooms at the hotels where they hold the pageants and watch.

I have a friend who used to do the whole pageant thing with her daughter when she was younger (the daughter is 15 now, almost 16). They started doing it when she was just 18 months old. Nowadays, the mom doesn't have a lot good to say about it, but back then she was HARDCORE into it, traveling to go to pageants, spending a ton of her husband's money on the costumes, makeup artists (for a three year old, sheesh), fake hair, fake teeth (flippers), shoes, entry fees, you name it.

They spent far more than the girl ever won doing the pageant thing.

Anyway, when her daughter was about 12, they were at a pageant in another state and it looked good for her daughter--she might finally win something big. She was sitting next to his guy who looked to be in his late 30s, maybe early 40s. He was grinning and couldn't take his eyes off the stage. She asked him which girl he was there for (meaning, did he have a daughter in the pageant or something?) and he just turned to her, grin still on his face and said, "I'm here for all of them."

She told me her blood ran cold in a second. She moved seats, her daughter finished the pageant (didn't win the big crown after all) and they left and didn't do pageants again. Her daughter didn't want to do it, anyway. Never really did.

She said hindsight is not only 20/20, it's a torture, because she can remember every single outfit and routine that SHE thought was just cute, but was in reality quite sexual. She just never thought of strangers sitting there watching her daughter gyrate while wearing a two-piece, pretend to pole dance, etc.

To me, I think "well, duh, of course that was inappropriate" and I would have never allowed it in the first place, but I have to give her credit for seeing the light. Now she's quite anti-pageant.

I have a bit of a radical position on the whole matter and think beauty pageants for girls under 18 should be banned by law. It's like putting your daughter up as a possible victim if the guy or guys in the audience likes what he sees enough.

And putting it on TV? (Toddlers and Tiaras, etc) That's taking it to a whole new level. Now ANYONE can sit at home deciding if they like your little three year old daughter's faux-lap dance you taught her.

It's disgusting and it needs to STOP. Girls shouldn't only be valued for their external appearance, anyway.

I won't hold my breath, though, waiting for the pageant that has as its events poetry writing and recitation, best lab experiment results, and highest GPA trophy.

As for dancing (Dance Moms), obviously dance is an art and a highly demanding one, at that, but WHY faux-stripping??? WHY?

I didn't take dance as a kid (I was in gymnastics), but I had a lot of friends who did and you know what they did? Ballet. Tap. Jazz. Modern dance, which had NOTHING like what these Dance Moms are doing. Nothing. They would wear full body unitards in black and maybe gloves. Their hair back in a bun and the focus was on their skill and the dance was anything but sexual. Why would it be? They were like ten years old! Who choreographs sexual moves for little kids???

Augh. Got me started on that. But putting it all on TV for a couple of million people is just...as a mom, it makes me feel sick to my stomach. And you can include in that showing toddlers on potties, in the bath, etc. Pedophile FODDER.

Dwindle said... 70

Hiding the links to the episode was a calculated marketing move. It was aired, photos and some clips remain, buzz is at an all time high, and folks will tune in to see if the show can top itself.

This is Lifetime? Apparently there is an entire slew of gestational carriers that will sell their children to get their own faces on TV. Let nothing stand in the way of a woman and her make up artist, hair fryer, bottle job.

What have women become? And do these little girls not have fathers, grandparents, teachers, ANYONE to speak out for them? There must be someone somewhere who has legal standing to approach a court to be heard. Or are all judges as money and fame oriented as the Gosselin's judge?

In my area, domestic court judges run for re-election. And at election time they have opponents. And those opponents use advertising and media interviews to call cases and decisions into question. It's called a built in term limit. I mention this emphatically in case anyone local to these children hasnt thought of this yet.

Oh and while I'm on a roll, someone posted a link to an article about Girl Scouts above...now THAT is a worthwhile thing to get your daughter involved in.

Mine was a GS from the time she could be a Daisy (kindergarten) all the way through Junior GS (sixth grade).

What my daughter and the other girls got out of it was invaluable and they will never forget it. They got badges for entrepreneurship, orienteering, horsemanship, finance and budgeting, creative endeavors, studying other languages and cultures, you name it. NONE of the badges were for doing hair, putting on makeup, wearing skimpy outfits or learning stripper moves.

I have watched Toddlers & Tiaras once or twice (and it made me want to take a scalding hot shower after, ug), I've only seen about 10 minutes of Dance Moms (it bored me silly), but one thing I notice is that every mom has this obsession with surface/appearance. Superficial stuff. The outside of their daughters and themselves, as well.

Thing is, looks fade. You can be the most physically gorgeous woman who ever walked the earth and if you're lucky, you WILL grow old. You will get wrinkled and saggy and if you haven't cultivated any inner life, any mental pursuits, any personality or humor, what will you have left? A bitter person who lost her looks. Someone no one wants to be around.

Sorry, I tend to get soap-boxy on this topic. I'll stop.

It's disgusting, isn't it...that these people don't speak out? I remember once for a school project, my 6th grade daughter was supposed to do something for a health class film. What she was supposed to say was totally inappropriate. They were learning about STDs, contraceptives, unwanted pregnancies. My husband marched himself into the school and told the teacher that in no certain terms, over his dead body, was she going to do that and they should find another project for her to do. They did.

I remember when the girls in her class were all into the clothing at a certain store that is popular with tweens. The bikinis and other hooker clothing were disgusting. She begged and begged for a next-to-nothing bikini. Some other moms relented. The girls had to wear this clothing because everyone else did. It was a peer thing. We didn't back down. She wore the one-piece swimsuit or she wasn't going to the beach or pool. That's the way it was.

Re the photog thing: just my take on it.

I think what happened is the guy Hugh asked Kate if he could have a pic of her with her boyfriend. He likely had no clue who this guy was except for their body language. Kate took offense (remember she twitted "that ? summed you up!") and snapped his head off that he should remember his place. ("How do you NOT know that *I* am the great Gosselin Uterus and THIS is my fake bodyguard!!! I have made it perfectly clear on my lame twitter!!!") After Steve reminded her about his 3 Rules Of Public Conduct, she agreed to stand still for a pic.

Hugh, not sure of what hit him or why, got a chip on his shoulder and later captured a bit of a crotch shot, and had every intention of making Kate as miserable as possible with it as payback for screeching at him in public.

Someone intervened, perhaps the Red Cross, and asked that it not be published, as their benefactors dont want to have to worry about future events where they are caught with spinach in their teeth, boogers in their noses, or their g-strings hanging out.

Hence the back pedal.

He may or may not have a pic of Steve behaving in an unmarried manner; if he didnt know who Steve really was, he assumed this was her boyfriend and didnt really CARE about getting pics of the noogleing. But once again, kate entered a room, offended every person in her path in order to make her presence known, and then screamed loud and clear about how everyone was MEAN TO HER. When only 5 folks on the planet Earth cared about that, she started the 'milk out of my babies mouths' routine that has always served her well for nearly 8 years now and counting.

She kept up the fury for 2 or 3 days, hoping to milk (pun intended) this as possible. Hugh is doing the same, because he is still stunned that she could be so bitchy, so fast, over nothing, to a man with a camera.

Just dawned on me that the only hobby Kate talks about s "running."

Surely most people tend to have more than one hobby they enjoy out of life. You don't have to I guess but...if it's going to be your hobby the least she could do is make it sound more convincing. She says she still has to force herself to go running. I would have thought she would enjoy doing it by now.

And, don't most mom's know that giving kids only juice to drink is a bad idea? Can't be good for your teeth, it's a lot like soda. Maybe that's why her dentist bill was so much, I mean cavities can't be cheap.

I also thought the reason she spends so much time doing one task, (i.e. arranging and organizing might be because Kate doesn't have any real friends or family to visit with.) You got to fill up empty hours in a day somehow...

As a mother of 3 daughters I agree!!! But are you aware that recently certain politicians have spoken out against all things Girl Scouts, that the organization distracts girls from their roles as mothers and wives, teaches lesbianism and encourages abortion? These are not fringe wackadoos who are saying this, but Governors, Senators, and a certain candidate who just won primaries in a bunch of southern states yesterday.

I am not here to fight about politics and I wont read or respond to posts about that. What I AM saying is that while things like the GS is being attacked, and it is, girls are also being taught, like the Dance Kids, that the way to get along is through toplessness and flaunting what is below the waist.

And judges rule it's all ok as long as the parents make money from it?

What my daughter learned was to be confident and knowledgeable. She learned lots of skills, made friends, and along the way gained some great memories of her childhood (see, Kate? Memories is not code for "send me on an expensive trip," they can be made doing simple things).

It's ridiculous that an organization like GS is torn down when it only exists to give girls confidence and to teach them to value what they know and can do. How wonderful is that? I hope if I'm lucky enough to have granddaughters, they can have that experience, too.

Melissa said... 82

Anonymous said... 83

Not that I don't think teaching girls is valuable, I took Girl Scouts more or less because I was told to and I don't have any positive memories of it. I remember selling cookies but that's about all we did except color or go bowling.

I learned what made you popular or not, I learned to be more of a loner but then again that's life, it teaches you different things not always the same. Heaven forbid in our troop if you weren't one of the troop leaders kids and you forgot your dues that week.

Maybe Girl Scouts has changed since my day (haha) maybe girls are taught more elsewhere. Doesn't mean I still don't buy a box of cookies to see some of the girls here light up.

I have to say though...taste wise I haven't enjoyed them.

Dallas Lady said... 84

Marie, I think a lot of it depends on the troop leader. It doesn't sound like you had a very good one, unfortunately.

I wanted all the girls in the troop to get the most out of GS they possibly could, and also follow their own interests (e.g., I didn't want it to be about what *I* wanted them to do).

The girls in my troop had a strong interest in nature and the outdoors, so we read articles about identifying trees by the leaf shape and other things and then went on an afternoon hike in a gorgeous state park near us. They observed leaf shapes and identified trees, sketched things they saw, we all discussed the things they saw (this was probably second grade?). They kept an outdoor journal that year in GS. It was so much fun. We learned about outdoor safety, too--orienteering, staying together, plants to watch out for (like poison oak). It was simple, but they seemed to really get a kick out of it. And three different badges!

And hey, it had to be better than getting their eyebrows waxed and learning to grab their crotch at the right point in the song.

HughE already knew that Steve was her bodyguard. In an interview he did last year when he was reporting about their trip to Philly (where they ran the "Rocky" steps) he said he was approached by her bodyguard who asked him why he was there. HughE said he was a local photoblogger (or journalist - whatever) and Steve tried to block him from taking pictures. Someone posted the link to this interview from last year in the previous thread.
HughE knew FULL WELL that Steve was her 'bodyguard' from last year, but this year something prompted him to think that perhaps now they were a couple (could have been the whole 'arm around Kate' thing). Steve was probably trying to cop-a-feel with Kate's backless dress.

aggiemom09121416 said... 86

I guess GS is a great organization if you were never involved in the politics and financial end of it.
I was a daisy leader, a brownie leader, and a junior girl scout leader.
We never had dues.
We met every week, and each girl took turns bringing refreshments for the week.
We tried to go to one field trip a month.
We earned lots of badges and had a lot of fun.

What parents and girl scouts don't see, are the service unit and district meetings that stress, money, money and more money. Specifically, what is NOT coming into the executive director's office coffers, which pays her quite-nice salary and benefits, and her staff.

Service units are threatened with removal of day events and sleep-overs, IF they can't manage to sign up more girls to their troops.

When cookie time gets here, it's an all-out war on over-worked troop cookie managers and service unit cookie managers (I did those jobs, too).
The troops themselves get to keep a very small amount of money earned, and the lion's share goes to the district office.

The money earned by the troop is supposed to be used for troop trips, or buying over-inflated pricey junk from the gs catalog. We did that one year, then the years following I personally wrote checks to each girl for the amount that they sold. The district didn't like it, but that is just too dang bad!

I guess GS finances and management is just like every other business, once you learn the ugly side of it, it's just not interesting anymore.
I went to countless district meetings, and it was all about money and quotas..the girls got a mere mention to save face.

Between the district meetings and the pressure to sell enough cookies to deliver what the council expected financially, I couldn't take it anymore and quit after 8 years. It wasn't about the girls...its' always about the money. I never once saw an executive director or her staff sell a box of cookies or go to a field trip, but she sure dang well wanted her monthly salary on time.
I think the girls that were in my troops enjoyed it, as I enjoyed the girls. But I see them being exploited by adults by making them sell cookies to pay their salaries.
Exploitation is exploitation.

Experiences are different, for everyone and it really does depend on your troop. My case, it was a small town in middle of nowhere CA. Kind of town where everyone knows you and you know just about everyone else. And lazy troop leaders who enjoyed the prestige more than anything else.

I don't see Kate enrolling any of her kids into the GS. I think it can be a good experience, I really do but only if your kids enjoy it. You think that would be too much for Kate? Oh boy...Kate as a troop mom? Yikes. It wouldn't be all about her that's for sure.

Also I think, Kate was a cheerleader, doesn't mean her daughters should have to follow in those exact footsteps.

Dallas Lady said... 92

I know we had to return a certain percentage of cookie sales to pay for the cookies, but our troop got to keep the rest and it paid for our yearly trip.

I never got involved in higher level stuff and it sounds like it's a good thing I didn't! It was hard enough teaching full-time, being a troop leader, and taking care of everything else I had to take care of. I couldn't take on anything more.

I am glad from the girls' point of view it was most likely a very positive, affirming experience. aggiemom, it sounds like the girls in your troop also had a great experience!

And yeah, could you imagine Kate as a troop leader? Or even a mom of one of the girls in your troop? HOLY HELL. I would HATE that. It is up to troops whether to charge dues or not. I chose not to. We lived in a economically disadvantaged, very small town similar to the one you described.
I certainly didn't see it as a status symbol to be a gs leader, I was the only one that was stupid enough to volunteer (lol). I enjoyed the girls, my first troop stayed together as a whole from kindergarten through 7th, unless a few moved..I also had multiple troops going on at the same time (I have been blessed with all daughters).
Sometimes I would have parents donate money to the troop, and parents had to pay the monthly fee for any trip we went on (it was cheap back then). Most of the crafts stuff came out of my pocket, but I didn't care, we all had a good time.
I also required that the girls use a part of their cookie money to plant flowers at the church that graciously allowed us the use of the building every week. After that, the girls were each written a check for the amount of cookie money they earned..some of the girls got upset that they didn't get a big check like others, but hey, you shouldn't get something you didn't earn, imo..they knew all along they would be getting their own proceeds, so if they only sold 2 boxes versus someone who sold 400, hard work should be rewarded.
When it was apparent it was time to disband a troop, the girls all got an equal part of the remaining girl scout checking account balance.

Marie, I am sorry you had such a bad experience with the dues thing, that is APPALLING. I never had dues, why make a kid feel badly if they didn't have a stupid dollar?

I still buy GS cookies, it is just too hard to say no to those sweet little girls. I guess I am just a sucker. (I also buy tons of stuff from those crazy school fundraisers, too...gift wrap, stationary, candy, notepads, calendars, etc...lol)

I served in GS in the nineties...if I recall correctly, the GS executive director salary was in the 60,000 range...that's a LOT of cookies (when cookies were 2.00 a box)

OT on Harry Potter World. (Hope it's okay, Admin)...

amyf, we went not knowing anything about it and gleaned a lot from being there.

Universal Orlando has two adjacent parks. "Harry Potter" is in the back of Islands of Adventure. Best tip is to go straight to the back of Islands of Adventure to Hogwarts Castle to help beat the lines.

Hogwarts contains a ride called "Forbidden Journey." The line will weave through the castle (which is really cool--talking portraits, the sorting hat, Dumbledore speaking to you from his office--all very authentic). The ride is a roller coaster taking you on a virtual broomstick ride in and around the (virtual) Hogwarts. My kids are older teens and young adults and were absolutely enthralled with the experience. We ate at "The Three Broomsticks," which recreated the book's Three Broomsticks. Here you can have butterbeer (yum) and an English or American lunch. It's located in an very cool Diagon Alley. Even the bathrooms pipe in Moaning Myrtle!

We enjoyed both parks. We ended up staying about 30 minutes away. Locals told us that was smart (it was an accident on our part) because the hotel prices were much cheaper. We were able to do all of Islands of Adventure in one day (being rainy helped the crowds) and all of Universal Studios park the second day (on a beautiful day). Buying Express passes to bypass the lines helped tremendously. Well worth the additional price of about $50 a piece per studio per day. And I'm a cheapskate!

About twenty years ago, I read that "the sexualization of children is a sign of a society in decline." I've never forgotten it...

It was hard to protect my children from these things when Madonna and Britney Spears were the ones to emulate. I've already said to my kids that their job as (future) parents will be much harder. Things just keep getting worse. I find it sadly ironic that Madonna, who was all about "putting it out there" for kids and adults, became protective of what her own child could see. Of course, many posters here were also protective as well, but WE weren't the ones onstage peddling sex to the children of others.

And I certainly do not wish a hurricane on anyone in August, just some inclement weather, maybe a high sea swell or two. Bitchy me.

******

I was a GS from 1st grade through High School.
They didn't have Daisy troops at that time. My GS experiences got me 3 weeks in Mexico and 3 weeks in Europe that the troop members worked together to pay for with fund raisers. We stayed in Girl Scout hostels for the most part.

I can't imagine that at least a couple of the
Gosselin children would not have enjoyed time as a Boy Scout or a Girl Scout. Surely there are troops near where they live and they would not have to drive back to school to attend.

I don't wish for a hurricane. Kate is miserable enough inside, there's no need to wish anything externally bad on her. She screws everything up all on her own and makes herself miserable just by existing. She just can't seem to be content or happy.

I do firmly believe that this happy smiley little "we're gonna have so much fun hanging out on the boat" persona she's adopted on twitter is 100% artificial and a lie. The handful of fans going apparently think they're going to have slumber parties and have drinks together and go jogging with her and just be bestest girlfriends for life on the cruise and it'll be ANYTHING but.

I saw a video of that ship and it is WAY WAY bigger than you can even imagine. It'll be super easy for her to hide from her fans when she wants to, which will probably be most of the time. If they don't know where her cabin is (and they won't), then it'll be no problem. Hell, that ship is so big she can hide in plain sight.

They are going to be quite disappointed. And it sounds like they'll be surprised by the charges at the end. Oh well!

Anybody brave enough to ask Kate how being basically unemployed she is still surrounded by paperwork so often? What, is writing for CC about how she manages to make clothes lasts, or how she makes no mention of coupons really that much of a long drawn out process?

Anybody here a travel-type, experienced or just want a good laugh?

The cruse is all inclusive. The price includes gratuity, drinks (both alcoholic and non alcoholic), meals, air travel from select hubs, and more. (http://news.travel.aol.com/2011/04/06/crystal-cruises-to-go-all-inclusive-next-year/) This sounds like its a way better deal then Kates cruse.

Crystal Cruises are all-inclusive, definitely on the luxury end of cruising. They offer many interesting celebrity/academic/gourmet itineraries, and are small enough ships that you probably do actually see the celebs enjoying their vacations. Crystal is also more expensive, but I like the all-inclusive concept; for me a real vacation is not pulling out my wallet/cc sveral times a day.

For years we took our children to a summer camp run by a local university. Dorm life and dining, kids activities in age groups all day with college age counselors, adult activities like tennis, wine-tasting, golf, even fun things after dinner. We loved it, went back the same week every summer for a dozen + years. Made friends that we saw every year, still are in touch with today. Kids got to roam the college campus, supervised. We saw them at meals, and at family events like picnics and campfires. Best of times, and a real vacation for me.

The two cruises we have taken, on smaller ships, same atmosphere - friendly people, activities, all-inclusive. I do not think this is what the sheeple are going to get with KG.

I agree with Dallas Lady, this cruise is going to be about Kate making only the appearances as advertised. Even so, misery will dog her, and these events will likely happen in a very controlled environment. Then, she will beat it back to her private balcony. She has no social skills and is terrified of people invading her personal space. She is always on guard, and suspicious of anyone getting something from her without strict authorization. Having trust issues on a cruise will not be a good combination, every other person will have an iPhone, and iPad
or a camera ready to get a shot of her.

Kate will realize pretty quickly that she will have few private options. It will either be her cabin, her balcony, or being with the public the moment she walks out her cabin door. I cannot, for the life of me, see Kate sitting on a deck chair watching Mady and Cara playing with other kids in the pool. You know, just blending in, and being part of something bigger than her delusional image of herself.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Yes, I think you pegged it. Her support ended with the inappropriate website picture and wearing her fancy prom dress to the ball. And in all seriousness, I'm sure in her mind she feels those contributions are priceless because of the important celebrity she imagines she is. The regular, mediocre, unfamousish people can run in the Philly RC marathon.

I think the only marathons she will be participating in are ones that require getting there on a plane and some kind of perk/compensation for her.

Gift of grab said... 117

Auntie Ann, couldn't agree more. On the other hand, this is what he lives on. Generating as much buzz as possible with as little effort as possible.

Looking back at his timeline, though, his first 4 or 5 tweets about Kate at this event do not have her twitter address in them, nor do they have RCphilly's, so for those who say he was trying from the get-go to "engage" her and squeeze something out of her (a confession? money? who knows?), all I can say is: Unless this was an EXTREMELY sophisticated GRIFT, in which both of them were complicit, I think the Kate meltdown was genuine, and I also think he was compelled to back down. Did he get a real money shot? Who can say? I think his trying to claim after the fact that he thought the money shot was Kate with the tarot reader is pure nonsense, and he knows it.

What is clear is that he didn't pull any punches--BEFORE or AFTER Kate got involved--regarding his opinion that Kate & Steve are "a couple." OR that Kate is a regular b---- in public, which is something we all knew anyway.

Having seen his blog, etc., though, I don't believe that RC hired him to be there and take pix. Covering local events is his job, for phillymag, perhaps for the Fox station--he shows up and provides the buzz. He clearly DOES sell photos, as well, but I think his main line is as the local "gossip" guy.

Whatever. They both got a lot of mileage out of it, and it has not changed my view of Katie Irene in the slightest.

"Paperwork"? TAX SEASON. I wonder if she actually has an accordion file with all those receipts . . . X 8!

Dallas Lady said... 118

wayward, totally agreed. She will NOT run any races that are close to home. The point of this running schtick is to get TRIPS AWAY FROM THE KIDS and FREE SHIT.

I mean, those are her two main objectives in life and running races close to home doesn't fulfill at least one of those, possibly both if she isn't given stuff.

Even when she finally realizes she isn't hot shit and isn't going to be sent all over the world to grace marathons with her presence, she still won't run races close to home. My prediction is that by then she will have tired of this particular interest, as she does when things don't prove profitable for her anymore (see: kids--but as she has moaned and groaned about on camera, she CAN'T just walk away from them--she has always seemed sad and disappointed when she says that, too).

Spot on, Amen, hallelujah and whatever else applies!!!

This is kind of a disaster in the making. What is Skeeve going to do, confiscate people's cameras? Demand they delete photos off their phones? Not happening, especially to people who have paid their hard earned money and have just as much (if not more) of a right to be on that ship as Kate does.

I have a sneaking suspicion that her availability and un-frownyness will be commensurate to how much bank she's gonna end up with.

When most people run in a charity race or do a walk-a-thon, triathalon, bicycle race, etc., they must raise a significant amount of money. It might be $2500 to $3000 and they ask family, friends, co-workers, etc. to sponser them. Is Kate required to raise (or write a check for) this "donation?"

Ugh, I remember that. Dinner time in PA, time to twat non-stop. When my children were young, pre-social media, I never had time to chat on the phone between dinner and bed, oh maybe to my mother, who usually called to talk to the kids. Poor Kate, her kid was sick and SHE had the miserable day.

-----------------

Kate is so ridiculously immature, picking these sayings to validate herself. How about "What goes up, must come down." I really do wish she would do a reality check but narcissists do not do that. The world revolves around them, is flawed, therefore the world must adjust to THEM and their current take on life. Kate really is exhausting and predictable, and will continue to put her spin on life, as she wishes to spin it. Narcissists see flaws in others, never in themselves. And they are often liars in order to keep their facade alive. And many narcissists do not benefit from treatment, as they simply to refuse to believe that they have a problem. Hi Kate- Have a great day!

Anonymous said... 137

Why in the world would people want Kate to talk about disabled children? Not that it doesn't have it's own forum and use because it does. But I don't see her having any experience in raising or facing the challenges of disabled children that many parents face. What could she say about it?

Of course Kate had the miserable day, her kid was sick, and to her that makes her life harder because she has to take care of someone other than herself. I read a little bit of her book, I just want to know, and I am awe struck that if she was a nurse...why is she so clueless to the fact that a physician would never write a prescription for a medication on someone they haven't seen or examined? It just sounds so ridiculous.

No...not all comments are going to get a response, not every question in life gets answered that's just the way it is. Doesn't mean people here are necessarily lonely. I think maybe you can read too much into things. Come, join, comment, debate, disagree but don't make it this big pout fest. Most women here tend to agree with what is said so lots of times what is said just doesn't need to be repeated.

I don't watch Dance Moms, cause they are just like Toddlers & Tiaras, the only difference is these kids are older and they are dancing. The moms are stage moms, who are living through their kids, and / or to gain profit using their kids. I attemped to watch a few times, could not stand that bully Abby, who does not have kids and does not understand children. She is just a BULLY, like Kate. Yes, Kate is a BULLY. I went to school with girls like Kate & Abby, I have no use for people like them. Kate bullies her kids, he Ex, service people, and any body else who does not go her way. That is probably one reason TLC dropped her like shit. Cause, the monster they made, must have complained all the time about everything, what we saw on TV was only a small portion of how Kate really is, the rest got cut(edited). Jon knows that, the kids, know that and the sitter/helper knew that(Ashley).

Really, Anonymous? The beauty of this blog is that it is a BLOG. It is NOT a debate. People come on here and say what they want to say. If someone applauds a given comment, great, I hope the poster walks away and feels happy and supported. On the other hand, if no one notices, well, that's how the wind blows sometimes. I don't think people come on here to engage in dialogue so much as to express a point of view or, in some cases (my own, no doubt), to simply VENT about the absurdity of TV-invented personalities. I think this blog is notable for the fact there there is so little in the way of personal attacks. No one here pretends this is a "pro-Kate" blog; if that is what you want, there are other (albeit increasingly few) venues you can choose.

I think I speak for most of us when I say: We speak our minds, and if you don't like what you read, JUST DON'T READ! Dissenting opinions are fine, but again, the purpose here is really not debate, especially not when it brings in other blogs, notorious posters, psychopathic stalkers, etc. We talk about what bothers us about WHAT WE SEE. If you're NOT bothered by what you see of Kate Gosselin, then you probably won't be happy here. And if you're not bothered by Kate Gosselin, you probably won't find a lot of sympathizers here, either.

Anon..I understand what you are trying to say. You think everyone should feel welcome and included so just get a hi. It's a nice thought but blogs are usually for opinions. If you opinions strikes a thought in someone, they reply. They usually aren't "friend" groups. I do find however, in sharing things other than opinions, such as personal stories, people tend to see you as a person and not an opinion and sometimes little internet bonds form based on common experiences.
I wouldn't feel excluded if I were you. I have posted tons of stuff that wasn't replied too. I have been called out for my crappy punctuation. But I still post her because I have an opinion of the mess that is kate gosselin and I like to share it sometimes. ALSO, there have been times when I have posted and gotten wonderful responses or I have shared something personal and kind people offer emotional energy. It really comes down to a sense of being familiar with people. The more you post, the higher your chances are of becoming recognized and replied too.
In the real world people don't form bonds in a day. It happens over time. That's just life the way I see it. Everyone starts out new somewhere and finds their legs.
I know you want everyone to feel accepted from day one but in the real world friendships happen over time. Hopefully the people you work with understand that and learn this valuable human understanding. It will help them not feel so un-included if they are not greeted the way they expect in the 1st try. The should know to always keep trying, that everyone goes thru ackward newbie phase in life and that fades pretty fast. :0)

Hope this comes across as sincere and not condesending. That's another reason I don't usually reply to people. It's hard to have a "tone" when you type and I don't want to be misconstrued.

I hear you! Narcissists are never able to relate to anyone else's experiences, as their own are much more important and immediate. Thus, they inject themselves into any conversation or dialogue, turning it back to themselves. They are exhausting people, as you know you will never win with them.

I recognize the point you illustrated. She is an exhaustingly ME-ish person, not likely to ever change. But great example!

I have to be completely honest. I think she exhausts so many of us, as we can not believe many of her behaviors, sayings, lies, etc... and that she gets away it. Time and time again. Let's see what happens now that TLC is reportedly out of the picture. I hope to God for the kids's sakes that things change, but not seeing that ever happening with her Personality Disorder, which led her down this path. We can only hope "fans" will get sick of her, and that she will fade away, while kicking and screaming for attention.

Can you tell I have had enough of her? : )

Dallas Lady, we started our cruise with several days in Prague and ended with some days in Budapest. It was just a grand way to see a part of the world we may not have chosen to see indeoendently. As we get older, we're mixing up our travel styles. I would love to do another river cruise another year.

Honestly, I think Kate is sinking and knows it. In spite of her bravado.

Long day and sorry for so many posts. I just want this woman to be a mom, not even a supermom, put her kids first and try to get over herself. After all, she chose to have 8, Count 'Em 8 kids. Time to focus on what is important and it is NOT you Kate.

And please stop with the photos and stories of your kids. Stand on your own two 36 year old feet for once and be an adult.

EM said... 150

Serious question. HAs kate ever ever replied to someone person success or pain WITHOUT inserting her own. Agree with aggie and gosselin8 that it is EXHAUSTING to know people like this.

My attorney, who I wish over and over I could fire (cant afford new one) is a narcissist. God forbid you dare have a question when he is speaking or he screams at you, threatens his wrath of not helping (narcissists love power over you) and slams the phone down. I have cried many times in my dealing with him since I am now stuck with him. As soon as I am free of him the Supreme Court will be receiving my statement.
I couldn't imagine having to deal with someone like this in my everyday life. I run far and fast from drama. Especially manufactured drama from people who behave like kate.

As I always said. I follow kate's story to remind myself that people like her exist. It's like a window into a narcissists psyche seeing kate on display. It's sick, yet I can't turn away because kate represents all the narcissists I have dealt with and seeing kate in action has helped me view my own in a more understand light. Understanding as in RUN FAST. I spot them easier now

Also, I feel bad for the kids. No one believes they suffer because they are "rich and have traveled." If someone would take time to look they would easily see these kids walk on eggshells around their neurotic mom and by no mean are "lucky." Lucky would not be being filmed in your most private moments and sold to the public. It's exploitation in it;s own way. The nation doesn't care though because they seem "happy" and they aren't beaten black and blue. This experience is something the Gosselin8 will bear on their own and hopefully someday they will find support to help them come to terms with the nations viewing and judging them.

Poor Mady had an "I hate Mady Gosselin" website about her. YET KATE LOVES FILMING. ITS GOOD FOR THE KIDS. Tell that to Mady someday kate when she googles herself.

Poor kids were sold and reap no benefits except to eat the narcissistic cake their mom bought them to cheer HER on while she travels the country and leaves them with a babysitter for DAYS.

You put it beautifully. I guess I am a little touchy right now. Had a hard day with one of my sweet clients (hate that word, but they don't want us to develop attachments). She is a young lady with some issues and once a week we do some errands together. This includes a visit to the library where she reads a blog she enjoys. Every week she posts and rushes back the next week to see if anyone responded to her comment. This blog has nothing to do with this one or any like it. There are some regulars there who post and talk to eachother. Since she is only on once a week, she rarely interacts with anyone. When she does it lights up her life for the week. I always read here, and because of this situation, I probably notice this more than most would. I am just asking people to be aware of this. I know it is a blog, but it could be someones lifeline.

Sooverit, it doesn't ring true to me, either. Who says that?

Maybe it means "ALL THESE NETWORKS ARE BEGGING ME TO DO MY OWN SHOW AND THERE'S JUST SO MUCH PAPERWORK TO GET THROUGH!"

Or: "MOVIE STUDIOS KEEP SENDING ME SO MANY SCRIPTS TO READ!"

Or: "I CAN'T DECIDE WHICH TALK SHOW TO HOST, THERE ARE SO MANY OFFERS AND SO MUCH PAPERWORK TO GO THROUGH!"

Hee.

----------

Or: "I'm unemployed yet keep spending money to maintain my celebrity lifestyle; why is there so much paperwork to get through?!"

This "paperwork" term reminds me of some families who appeared on Oprah needing help with their debt, and financial experts shown going through stacks of paperwork (unopened mail, bills, multiple credit card statements, etc.) to analyze how much in debt these families are. Some kept spending "money" on living the ultimate American dream yet falling deeper and deeper into debt. Look rich on the outside, but crumbling in debt on the inside.

And yes kate ..you life suck. Oh the despair. A child with a headache.
My 19 year old had a cancerous mole removed last week.
My 18 year old has a serious ulcer. He has lost 13 lbs in the last 2 weeks and he didn't have any weight to lose in the 1st place. He is vomiting daily and in agony.
He is stressed about being charged with a FELONY for possessing a plastic cap gun in his car (it was a Halloween costume) His passenger stepped on it the day after Halloween as it was still in the car (yes son is messy)...he picked it up, Checked it out, twirled it around his finger and thru it over his shoulder and kept driving. Well, someone thought it was a real gun and called 911. He sat in JAIL right after his 18th birthday (born on Halloween)for 6 weeks while we struggled for bond $. JAIL! AT 18 AND 2 DAYS OLD WITH SCARY PEOPLE. The DA thinks it's worthy of Felony Menanacing charge because the person who saw it felt "fear" but admitted to my lawyer he has no case and was willing to drop charges. The person who called 911 has begged to have this dropped since he only felt fear because he thought he saw a real gun in someones hands. He thought he saw a real gun and was trying to help, he meant no harm or exaggaration. My lawyer now somehow messed it up and got this back to them wanting a felony plea but will be "erased" after 2 years probation. Not a good offer.
Oh, did I mention we had to come up with $30k CASH so far to fight this? Who has that kind of money laying around. Oh, KATE DOES! Her life is soooo hard.

Also, my company is doing layoffs this Friday and I don't know if that includes me or not. Either way, people I am close to will be out of work + maybe me. Even if I make it, my heart will ache for my coworkers.

HOW WAS YOU WEEK AGAIN KATE? PLEASE, DO TELL.

There are plenty of families that would love to have 15 cases of juice to organize (or room for 15 cases of juice). There are plenty of families that have to send their sick kids to school because that can't take the day off or find a sitter. Kate seems to have a sitter on call 24 hours a day. I have never seen anyone with so much be so miserable. Call it choosing positive, or whatever she says. We see you talk the talk Kate, how about walking the walk.

Now how's Kate going to spin this tale into lies? geez, she is something else.
Great article.

I'd like to know what this chick thinks she is going to do to keep up her lifestyle. Recently a pro athlete declared bankruptcy, he blew through 80 MILLION dollars. We all know Kate had no where near that kind of capital, so wonder how long before she starts down-sizing?
She doesn't appear to be sweating it just yet. Any mom that isn't employed that has to provide a lavish lifestyle for that many kids doesn't bang out $ for large quantities of meat, juice or organic soup. They are saving those bucks for mortgages and electricity bills....

Does anyone know of ONE example where Kate has given anyone anything, with nothing given to her in exchange? ANYTHING?

Even with being aware of that, I still step on toes occasionally and I beat myself up for days thinking i said too much. Actually, she can't, the lack of insight is part of the narcissistic package. What I find curious is the enormous insecurities that she has with the public. Does Steve go with her to parent/teacher conferences? I wonder if she is aware of the lecture at Brown, and has her people trying to stop it. No, she probably thinks that being compared to Kris Jenner is a good thing, using the rich/powerful scale. Loser.

Is he on the triple drug cocktail treatment for h.pylori, which is the number one cause of ulcers (not stress, as everyone thought before). The ONLY thing that made my ulcer better was the doctors prescribing the cocktail.

Also, talk to the doctor about sauerkraut juice and whether it's ok to use that. You can mix it with a non-acidic juice and it makes a soothing drink that is a good coat before eating. I thought it was crazy but it helped.

While embarrassing for the kids and a bit gross, the Gosselin tups on the potty before the age of five wasn't sexual. That is the main difference.

Sue Buddy -- STANDING O!! Great article!

EM -- so sorry to hear about all your problems. Lots of prayers and positive thoughts heading your way.

EM -- That "I Hate Mady Gosselin" website was one of the first things I stumbled upon when I went looking for more information on the G's. I was appalled at GROWN WOMEN (??) calling a child (she was 6 at the time), a c&$^, a b*tch, and saying she should be beaten to within an inch of her life for behaving like a normal kid. That alone should have shown Jon and Kate that their kids should be taken off TV. Thankfully, Jon did finally get it. Too bad their gestational carrier (I love that term. Thanks to the commenter who came up with it) is still clueless. She only gets upset when someone calls her names.

Maybe if you have THHHAT much paperwork, you might be spending too much money. If you've got four credit cards and five store cards and the payment for the dishwasher and the payment for the 3D TV and the payment for the furniture, yeah okay you have a lot of paperwork--but that's because you're SPENDING TOO MUCH. Kate? If you don't spend like a crazy person and keep your spending in control, you'll find you will only have a few bank statements, one credit card, utilities, internet/phone and a mortgage, a couple miscellaneous bills for the kids and so on, and you're done.

Also so many bills are automatic and online these days, paperwork has been drastically reduced. Something doesn't ring true about this. I agree, Kate thinks it makes her look important.

Did she really try to give away the ornaments? I knew she tried to sell them, but did she offer them for free as well?

I can't think of one instance where she gave away something for free. And if you throw in 'cheerfully gave', then that's a lost cause.

Anonymous, I hear you I really do. It would be wonderful to reply to each and every comment here. I can't do it. I work and have a life.

I think also, that we have to be careful encouraging people to rely completely on a blog for their fulfillment. In some ways, it's a good thing that people can't come her and expect a family. Some fun, some friends, etc. is fine, but it can't really and shouldn't really cross that line where if someone doesn't get an immediate response to a comment they end up depressed and beaten down--that just is not healthy. It's just a blog.

It reminds me of The Office where Michael feels much more closer to his coworkers than they are to him. There are times when that sitcom was kind of sad, because the rest of his coworkers just saw work as work and coworkers as coworkers. They had their own families outside this. He didn't. That's kind of how I see this blog. The people are LOVELY and WONDERFUL make no mistake. They are indeed like a great group of coworkers that makes going to work a blast. I like the people here. But they are still like coworkers, and at the end of the day you still go home to real life where you have the real soul-fulflling relationships a person needs (and always look forward to the next day when you'll see the coworkers again).

Sadly, that isn't correct. I was reading an article about exploitation of children and the desires of some pedophiles who get ofcf on watching diapers being changed. Totally perverted. There were case histories/arrests, and one guy constantly changed a two-year-olds diapers just so he could see what was in them. Sexual? Yes. Feces and urine of children may be a festish to some of them. Potty training to some may be a normal part of childhood, totally innocent, but to others, you just never know why they may have watched.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 193

They are one of the few groups she can FOOL. They are young and many not wise yet to the ways of the world and going through the "my celebrity can do no wrong" phase. GIve them a year or two and they will laugh about the celebs they adored. I laugh about my JTT obsession. It was just a silly kid thing. You grow out of it.

Taking advantage of teens who are finding themselves and are vulnerable and gullible to you is despicable.

Tamara said... 194

While there are some sick individuals out there who do get off on every facet of children's lives, what I meant was small children shown on the potty or getting dressed is miles away from putting girls into styles meant for adults (even worse meant for slutty adults) and teaching them to pole dance and make crotch grabs that would have made Michael Jackson blush.

American society seems to relate the human body only with sex.

Downeaster Alexa said... 195

I know nothing about narcissists. Does Kate realize that she is doing this - inserting herself into everything, making it all about her? She reads blogs, she reads tweets. There have been so many comments about this, but she just doesn't stop. It's almost gotten to the point where it's amusing because she's so predictable.

Can she stop this, or as a narcissist, is this beyond her control?

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 196

On another note, Kate's I can relate thing just strikes me as all the more shallow, since Kate, who has estranged all her family and friends, will likely never have to deal with the heartache and guilt and indeed despair involved with placing a relative in some kind of assisted care facility.

When and if her parents ever end up like that, will she be around?

When Kate has to deal with an old folks' home, it will be the kids picking one for HER.

Gosselin8ComeFirst said... 197

Sorry- but NO child on national TV should be filmed pooping, peeing, or in a state of undress. It is common sense that this type of filming is not acceptable. Responsible adults should protect their children from having their naked bodies and private moments from being broadcast on national tv, for the sake of their kids. Rule of thumb - would you as an adult want these incidents broadcast for all to see if it were you being filmed? It really is not "cute" when on national tv for all of the nation to see, actually disrespectful and profoundly intrusive to the kids.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 198

Tamara I see what you are saying, but to me it's just the same if not worse.

I mean the kids in Dance Moms LOOKED naked but they weren't really, while doing sexy poses. The Gosselin kids were naked at least with their pants down doing something private (potty), but weren't doing sexy poses. The two sort of cancel themselves out in my book making them both equally horrendous.
