Wilson |
She stole our hearts in Mrs. Doubtfire and Matilda, but the pint-sized, adorable little girl is all grown up now, and wants nothing to do with film anymore: 'Only about half of the people asking me, Are you still acting? seem to take what I want into consideration.'
Wilson and Robin Williams, 1993 |
Said Mara on celebrity: "The celebrity aspect is nothing short of ridiculous, and auditioning is brutal and dehumanizing. Every time I see a pretty young girl on the subway reading sides for an audition, my only thought is, 'Man, am I glad I’m not doing that anymore.' I never feel nostalgia, just relief."
On demanding, creepy fans who can be very selfish: "I didn’t write Matilda or direct the movie, I just played the part. Still, what I did was important to them. I can understand why they want me to continue acting. But interestingly enough, only about half of the people asking me “Are you still acting?” seem to take what I want into consideration." (Reminds us of Kate's fans, who demand to know when the next special will be made without any regard for how the children feel about filming again.)
In an interview with her college newspaper in 2009, Mara had this to say about an encounter with fans: "I came to NYU for academic purposes and it was strange to me when I lived in Weinstein and I would find people knocking on my door late at night, like Thursday night at 12 am. I would open the door in my pajamas and there’d be a crowd of freshman girls, saying ‘Are you Mara?’ ‘Uhhh, yeah’. And they’d say “Well, we just really wanted to meet you.” And then they’d look really disappointed, because they probably expected at least for me to be wearing more than my pajamas. I felt bad, like I was letting them down because I wasn’t being glamorous, because I wasn’t the exciting person they thought I would be. And then they would often ask me to party with them. And I never did, I mean, I am really not a partier, and second of all, would you party with people you didn’t know who showed up at your door late at night on a school night? Would they have done that? No. There were safety issues."
On tedious days on the set (Mara began acting at age five): "Here is something no real celebrity will ever tell you: film acting is not very fun. Doing the same thing over and over again until, in the director’s eyes, you “get it right,” does not allow for very much creative freedom. The best times I had on film sets were the times the director let me express myself,* but those were rare."
And though she has never spoken of it publicly, Mara's mother was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer during the middle of filming Matilda. Mara, who was just eight years old, had to go on with the job and finish. Her mother died shortly after.
On Dancing With the Stars: "And no, you will not ever see me on Dancing With The Stars. Sorry.
Here's wishing Mara lots of success in her career, and we extend our gratitude for her part in a modern classic:
1089 sediments (sic) from readers:
«Oldest ‹Older 1001 – 1089 of 1089 Newer› Newest»A little bit more about the family in Houston who just had sextuplets: they refuse to even release the kids' names publicly. GOOD FOR THEM. They have said on their web site very emphatically they would not do a TV show. They are very protective of their privacy. Church friends and family members are helping them get a van, they are staying in their house, they have directed all media requests to the hospital PR people and will not answer media requests themselves.
The website was only for friends and family. Even the news story about the birth, picked up by NBC, was from the website, because you can't find it anywhere else, except to ask the hospital, and they aren't giving out much information.
Now that's something I can respect. By the way, the NBC story already has people making comments like "glad they aren't going to ruin their family like Kate Gosselin did, etc."
Who needs Kate useless cleaning tips or anything she says. I purchased a book years ago called:'Household Hints and Tips by Cassandra Kent. Great book. I see Kent has an updated one, 10,000 hints & tips. Mine is 2,000. Everything from food to cleaning, gardening, fixing things etc. and green thinking as well. I also collect some stuff I've seen in the paper too. Remember there is always newer ways & ideas on how to do things. But this is a basic kind of common sense thing, good for newbees coming into the world, and some stuff the rest of us would say, yeah, that makes sense. This book that I have older edition, covers almost everything, it has a first aide chapter too. This would be a wonderful book to give to anyone who is newly married, living on their own, and everyone.
I see Kate is exploiting the kids again. Kate posted Easter pics, she is calling spring pics. Still has to dress the boys alike. They are clones and icky! Because they are male or cause they look like Jon?
And the potted Easter plants are not cheap this year. For someone who crys no money? BSer! much!
Admin: Photography is my hobby. Those pics are terrible. There are shadows over faces, the angles are bad.
@xxx friends& I always contemplate... All at 1X better to be sick or strung out over two weeks?I take strung out so I can care for all!
*******************************************
I think she means that she would rather have kids get sick one at a time over a 2 wk period than have everyone sick at once. I'm at a loss to explain what is meant by "friends& I...".
Thanks for all the great tips everyone! I use plastic grocery bags for kitties also - I line a small trash can with as many bags as can fit, then when I clean I just take out the innermost bag to throw out. I can't line my cat pan - they just dig down to the bottom and scratch open the bag. They're animals.
Here's a tip my parents have used to deter deer from eating all of the Hostas: Get a bar of Irish Spring soap, and put it on a stick at deer nose height. A few of these around the garden and your plants will survive deer lunchtime.

I think what Kate is trying to say is that she would rather have the kids' sicknesses be strung out over longer period of time than have them all sick at the same time so she can give them individual attention.
Anon (169), thanks for the confirmation that the claims this cruise is "selling out" (or that the Kate part is) are complete fabrications. I note that the price quoted you is Cindy's FULL published fare for the stateroom/#pax, so no breaks in price are being given (yet).
CJ, of course, is backing up this "almost sold out" nonsense. If you ask me, she has been complicit in all of the fictions disseminated about this cruise, and I hope she gets her fair share of the blame to be assigned when Cindy sits down to figure out where she went so horribly wrong. Clearly, Cindy erred in not doing anywhere NEAR enough research on Kate AND in trusting someone (CJ) who has demonstrated over and over again, by their own words as published all over the Internet, that she is profoundly mentally disordered.
Good luck and Godspeed, Cindy, you have earned every bit of what's coming to you. What's NOT coming is a big fat commission check for either you or Kate.
I think it means the difference between having everyone sick at one time, or having a bunch of illnesses strung out over a period of time.
Milo is clearly back on form. I wonder what the the medical term is for this "rhyme disorder" she seems to have developed.

Once a Viewer, 173...I read One Child by Torey Hayden years ago. I will never forget that little girl and her genius mentality. Don't you wonder what happened to her?
**********************
Loved that book. Hayden wrote a sequel to it called The Tiger's Child, which reveals what happened to Sheila in her teens and young adult life. I won't spoil it for you, in case you want to read it!
I don't go to Kate's website very often, but wanted to see her "purdy" pictures. This was written below them. Has it always been there?
"What’s meant to be will be. It is better to be hated for who you are than loved for who you’re not. Don’t let what others think define who you are. Be bold and courageous, when you look back on your life you will regret the things you didn’t do more than the things you did. What appears to be the end is really a new beginning."
— unknown
This really fits Kate to a tee. Seems like unknown could be Kate, but I can't give that much credit for the thougtful writing.
The line: it is better to be hated for who you are, than loved for who you are not.
Well, the way I see it she is hated for her actions and behaviors and she is loved for putting on a false image of herself. She is loved for being uber mom. Extra organized, do it all alone, mom of 8. Its BS. In reality she has a staff and spends as little time as possible with her kids, just waiting for the next opportunity to fall into her lap, because "it has to."
As far as her regretting her decisions in life, well she may not, but I bet down the road, she will have 8 people who do.
Good luck Kate, and by the way....this is the END, so you better get working on your New Beginning!
Those were not professional pictures. The short skirt she has on...for Steve. Remember, we saw his foot in the giant plastic basket photo. I'm guessing he took the pictures. After all, he's her "manager".
So, the girls get to dress differently, but those poor boys.
I think Kate meant, is it better to get really sick and get it over with, or is it better to be less sick but have it last ("strung out") over a longer period of time. She really has nothing of importance to talk about, does she? While most moms are working hard and trying to make the best possible decisions for their families, Kate's wondering about how long she prefers her illnesses to last.
Those spring pics must have been taken by her "friends" on Easter. As always, her boobs are front and center.
I hate to say it, because I believe that is what she wants to hear, but the kids look 6 and 8, if a day. Those were taken on Easter. So much for the "friends" bringing HUGE cameras.
Dmasy -- I like Norah Lofts, too. If you like her try Jean Plaidy. She wrote a number of very good historical novels. The best are the Plantagenet series. She also wrote "gothic" novels as Victoria Holt. Alison Weir has excellent historicals, too. If you like mysteries as well as historicals, Anne Perry's Thomas and Charlotte Pitt mysteries are very good. They take place in Victorian England, and, although primarily mysteries, give an excellent picture of life and society in that era. Elizabeth Peters (who is actually Barbara Mertz, and also writes as Barbara Michaels) Amelia Peabody series are good historical mysteries, too. Amelia is an archaeologist at the turn of the 20th century. Ms. Mertz has a doctorate in archaeology, so the details are accurate. I like Torey Hayden's books. I haven't read one in a long time, though. Some of them are too heartbreaking. I think my favorite of hers is "Somebody Else's Children", though, because it shows just what miracles a dedicated and loving teacher can accomplish when allowed.
Blah blah blah. Why's that news? (LOVE the name, BTW) I think I forgot to say that I line the bottom of the kitty litter pan bags with several layers of newspaper. My cats tend to dig to China, too, and the paper helps cut down on the mess.

Yup. There's only a limited amount of space on that laundry room floor.
I don't really want to go to Kate's site and see any more pictures of her kids. I think I have a fairly good idea what they look like.
I do wonder, however, just how long it will be until she starts posting videos of them. She will keep them out there one way or another.
call me crazy: lol
readerlady: thanks for the tip - I'll try the papers at the bottom - I would love to be able to line the box so that the whole arrangement is a bit cleaner.
I've been writing down everyone's book tips - LOVE historical mysteries.
One of my favorite authors is Elizabeth George. Her mysteries novels are not historical so OT here, but I love her writing style, her characters, and her plots.
Thanks to all for the book mentions. I have long been a history/historical fiction fan and now have a whole list of new authors to explore. Thank you all!
Admin, if you find a way to inform us about Virginia Pen Mom and your work, I would appreciate being included.
I am curious about the spring "perty" pictures...but if I go to her site, she gets a hit count...right? I don't want to increase her traffic. Thanks for all the descriptions here. I will just imagine her short skirt, low cut top and some cute boys in clothes too large.
Readerlady, 18...thank you so much. I am taking notes. This site has been a goldmine of reading leads today. I won't have enough hours in a regular day!
Dmasy: The kids are wearing the Easter outfits, and Cara in a white blouse and skirt- she doesn't look as dolled up as Mady. Kate is in low-cut glory, blond tresses glinting in the sunlight, teeth shining in equine abundance.
Ha! This morning I commented on the Coupon Cabin blog and just noticed that it has been removed. Basically I said that their hiring of Kate has certainly made me aware of their site and other coupon sites and I have since chosen to use Coupon Suzy and Groupon because any company that would hire her must not be ethical or professional so how can I trust their site?

So, it looks like chef Jen Carroll (she's from Philadelphia, was on Top Chef) had an event last night, a "pop-up restaurant", and Jon was invited because his attorney (Chris Cabbott) is also Jen's attorney.
That PhillyShitShat guy was there and took a photo of Jon and his new girlfriend, that he showed on Fox Philly's Good Day Philly this morning. It seems that after the show, he tweeted to Jon that people mistakenly thought that the woman in the photo with Jon was chef Jen Carroll, when it was Jon's new girlfriend:

All -- Sharon Kay Penman, Margaret Frazer, Peter Tremayne, Roberta Gellis, , and Susanna Gregory all have excellent historical mystery series, too. Be careful with Gellis, though. She also writes a Fantasy/alternate history series so make sure you are getting the mysteries unless you also like Fantasy. An excellent resource for mysteries of any genre is stopyourekillingme.com. It lists books, in order of publication, by many mystery writers, and also lists by character. It has sublistings for various genres such as historicals, cozies, pets, locations, occupations, etc. They put out a free e-newsletter twice a month, too. Happy reading!
Once a Viewer, 25 -- Oh, my goodness. "...equine abundance." I am so tempted to look now. That was classically hilarious. Thanks.
Daphne DuMaurier - The House on the Strand - sort of historical/time travelish...
Fade2black, don't spend a second worrying about her "hit counter." That's a big fake, too. It doesn't matter what time of day or night you go there, you can be there for literally as little as 8-10 seconds, and the hit counter routinely adds at least a hit per second. If you don't believe me, take a gander. Just like everything about Kate, the whole thing is a farce.
I looked at the pix, and I don't know what she did to her twins, but they look like two little dolls--as in "not real." They appear almost the same height and almost identical. They do NOT look like the recent pix we've seen of them in Radar or INF.
Blah blah, I have loved Elizabeth George since her first book. Check out Susan Hill and Tana French. Both are great.
Someone posted the following on my FB page and I thought I'd share since I am also a child of the 60's and this was sooo true growing up.
My curfew was the street lights and my mom didn’t call my cell she yelled “time to come in”. I played outside with my friends not online. If I didn’t eat what my mom made me then I didn’t eat. Hand sanitizer didn’t exist but you could get your mouth washed out with soap. I rode a bike without a helmet and getting dirty was OK. I also drank water from the garden hose and survived.
I can't go look at the pictures. I would have to change my blog name to "Perty is as Perty does" and I don't want to do that!
Oops, sorry Dmasy, it was you who asked about the hit counter not fade2black.
And Cindy just keeps forging ahead, despite being busted over and over and over again:

@Kateplusmy8 Cruise w/ Kate on #Royal Caribbean this Aug on the #Allure of the Seas! Go to http://t.co/fLU9Tz26(preview) & Join us B4 it is sold out
Why doesn't she realize that if she hasn't marked "sold out" on the cabin category on the web site, no one is going to believe her? Can she really be this dumb? Oh that's right, she organized a cruise around Kate Gosselin. Never mind.
Gift: I think the twins look quite different- face, body type, etc. Mady looks like she is enjoying being photographed, while Cara looks uncomfortable , although smiling. She looks a bit more tomboyish and also older than Mady- they are sitting so I can't see their height, but in those Target pics, she was several inches taller than Mady. She also has a bigger build and is more matured. Maybe the difference in this photo is the make-up-I can't tell if Cara has some on too, but perhaps that's why they look different to you?
They should not be on display- those photos should b eon the family mantle, not on the net.
Why doesn't she realize that if she hasn't marked "sold out" on the cabin category on the web site, no one is going to believe her? Can she really be this dumb? Oh that's right, she organized a cruise around Kate Gosselin. Never mind.
-----------------
Actually, ever since it was mentioned here a day or so ago, I've been expecting Cruise-Pimping Cardella to do just that. We already know how slimy and unethical she is, so I would not at all be surprised if she marks one or two of the categories as "sold out" just to give the impression that the cruise is selling well.
The best author (mystery), next to Lawrence Sanders is Harlan Coben. ANYTHING by him.

Typo-mantlePIECE- don't want you guys to think I am picking up Kate' s habit of 'malaproping" :(
I too (in the 70's) was to come home 'by dark' and we played imaginary games or skipping, hide and seek, yes, Red Rover, yogi, (jumping over a rope made of attached elastic bands), acting out stories etc. The most fun ever. I can still smell the summery air and feel the cooling grass blades against my bare ankles. A drink from a hose was perfect...or Koolaid, lol.
Wow, the Houston family sounds really grounded. They've got grateful attitude, appear to have strong relationships with family and friends, and no signs of entitled grifting on their blog.
Oh, and the parents have done volunteer work in Nicaragua with their church. You know, working to make the world a better place. Unlike a certain "mother" we've seen who volunteers to gratify every little desire her meager heart wishes for.
Someone has also given a lot of thought to the emotional needs of those babies, too, unlike what's happened in that family we all know too much about. The Houston parents are using this tool in the NICU, and presumably, when they bring the babies home:
http://www.nurturedbydesign.com/en/thezaky/medical-staff_family-center.php
This kind of parenting is the opposite of the "throw 'em in the crib for four hours every afternoon" style, and, for these babies, it's apparently beginning in the NICU.
It's just great to think of six babies growing up loved and cared for, instead of sold. Hope things stay that way for this family.
Once a Viewer, I admit I didn't look that closely. Looking at all does feel to me like a violation of them. In that one pic of them in front of their house, to me they look close to identical. And could we be any more cutesy with the potted flowers in laps? Yeah, I bet her boys LOVED that prop.
Moose, "Rhymicus Nutsicus"?!?! Hilarious!

@Kateplusmy8 Kate the new pictures are beautiful. I have sent you 9 gel watches today. Hope you all like them. X
I find it funny that Andersen Cooper, has not had Kate on, his show to dispute her claims. I think the fights that Kate did on twitter(and the ones yet to come), the CC blog about Tony & Andersen, was to get on the Talk Show rounds. Tony said all he was going to say on the Kate subject, and Andersen was not going to lower himself to Kate childish level. Think about how angry Kate got around that time and how she lashed out at people. Cause no Talk show wanted to hear her crap.
We played jacks and softball, rollerskated. and built forts in the back yard using the clothes lines and blankets. Mom didn't holler out the back door, she rang a cow bell because if I wasn't in our yard, I was at my best friend's house, a block away. Our parents didn't worry about us, because my dog guarded us and my friend's collie herded us. We had water fights with the hose in the summer time. My favorite snack was to walk out into the back yard with the salt shaker, pick a ripe tomato, rinse it off with the hose, and eat it, dripping juice all over my shirt. Mom just laughed and tossed it into the wash. Many of our neighbors were older, and it was like having 4 or 5 sets of grandparents. They all looked out for us kids, baked us cookies, bandaged our scrapes if our Moms were busy, and loved us as much as if we were blood kin.
I can't believe I forgot to mention him, but one of the best historical writers, IMO, is, or rather, was, Allan W. Eckert. He wrote a lot about the settling of the Ohio Valley. "That Dark and Bloody River" is the history of the Ohio River, and "A Sorrow In Our Hearts" is the story of Tecumseh. Conrad Richter's trilogy, "The Trees", "The Field", and "The Town" is another excellent historical series. It deals with a settlement in Ohio. It was made into a mini-series called "The Awakening Land" starring Elizabeth Montgomery and Hal Holbrook.
Moose, I'll see your Lawrence Sanders and Harlan Coben and raise you Ed McBain, Marcia Muller, Robert Parker and Deborah Crombie, LOL!
If you subscribe to Vacations to Go, Kates cruise has been on the discount for 2 months now. Just go to vacations to go.com and type in a search for "her" cruise and everything will come up.

!!!!!!!!!'!!!!!!
This is one of those little telltale signs that she has help in the house, and plenty of it. When my kids were 1, 2-1/2 and 4 years old they got the chicken pox one-by-one. I didn't leave the house for a month, except in the evening after my DH got home. Fortunately, friends, family and neighbors all helped me out with carpools. I was going crazy from the isolation. Fortunately, as each child got past the contagious stage, they could go out to friends homes.
I think that she said that because she thinks that makes her sound like a better mother. Really Kate--you would prefer to take care of sick kids for 24+ days straight?
Hey aggiemom09121416, just returned from a college visit where we were greeted with a "Howdy" from everyone there. Yep, you guessed it.

fade -- I'm glad to leave some heartprints. My "handle" isn't readerlady for nothing. I was born with my nose in a book, although now it's usually in my Kindle. I come from a family of readers. When I was growing up, most evenings, it was Dad in the recliner, Mom in her chair, and me on the couch, all engrossed in our books. Sometimes the TV didn't get turned on for days.
Ooops. Hit publish too quickly. Aggiemom -- I think KK was trying to "hillbilly it up" and meant "purdy" instead of "perty", although "perky" fits, too.
I hate to be a pest, but I just want to mention this in case anyone misses it. I did three long posts earlier today, but they didn't post for over two hours (they just posted a few minutes ago).
Please scroll up to comments 27, 28, and 29 if you're interested in that PhillyShitShat guy and what he said about Jon (and his girlfriend) from the event last night. My posts have tweets, a link to a photo (of Jon and his girlfriend) that he tweeted last night, and also a link to his appearance on Good Day Philly this morning where he mentioned Jon and his new girlfriend. It doesn't seem that he or the two co-hosts have very favorable opinions of Khate these days.
It sure is a nice change to see people finally not bashing the hell out of Jon, (for his behavior over a six month span three damn years ago, and saying something nice about him.
I saw a bumper sticker the other day that reminded me of Khate since she seems so into "motivational" sayings:
"laugh at your problems. everyone else is!"

I can still smell the summery air and feel the cooling grass blades against my bare ankles. A drink from a hose was perfect...or Koolaid, lol.

Thanks for the lovely stroll down memory lane. I have great memories of growing up in the 60s with a crowd of neighborhood kids:
Hearing my mom calling to me across 5 backyards when it was time to come home for dinner.
Playing four-square; throw-the-shoe; kick-the-can; capture the flag; tag (regular/TV/freeze); Red Rover; football; hide and seek; sardines.
Choosing who was "it" with "One Potato, Two Potato," "Doggie, Doggie Diamond," or "1-2-3 Not It!".
Being allowed to stay out until 10:30 on summer nights with all the other kids.
Waiting for the ice-cream man to come around on those late nights and toss free stuff to us from his truck.
Running barefoot and getting dirty.
Smelling fresh-cut grass.
Looking for 4-leaf clovers.
Hula hoops and jingle jumps and roller skates with metal keys.
Those are some of my most vivid and special memories. It is kind of sad that kids today don't get to experience that simple, unstructured play.
readerlady:
I like a lot of those authors, but especially enjoyed The Awakening Land w/ EM as well as the books it was based on...love history.
My husband writes non-fiction history( and teaches it)We met at uni and had that in common - then after my BA I went into nursing...lots of vacations in historical places.
gift:
I know, every time, it really annoys me! WHY??? gel watches, oy!
aggie: yup, springy and perky, they indeed were both, both of them ( kate-talk)
"Ed McBain, Marcia Muller, Robert Parker and Deborah Crombie, LOL!"

I'm on my way to Barnes and Noble. Any particular titles I should look for?
I'll put Archy McNally (Sanders) up against any characters by contemporary mystery authors! ;)
NLAN said "Actually, ever since it was mentioned here a day or so ago, I've been expecting Cruise-Pimping Cardella to do just that. We already know how slimy and unethical she is, so I would not at all be surprised if she marks one or two of the categories as "sold out" just to give the impression that the cruise is selling well."

I wouldn't put it past her either, and if someone calls to find out if there is a vacant cabin...surprise! Surprise! This is their lucky day! One just opened up!
Readerlady, Ed McBain was one of my all time favorites! Oh how I miss the boys of the 87th.

Exactly! I was going to say that too. Cruise-Pimping Cardella would do that, or she might just mark one or two of the mid to higher priced categories as "sold out". People would still contact her for info and she could always offer cabins in those categories if the person seems to want it. Like you said, she'll simply say that she just got an opening.
Thanks for the lovely stroll down memory lane. I have great memories of growing up in the 60s with a crowd of neighborhood kids:

Not all those things were relegated to the olden days. I was luck enough to have a set of step-grandparents who lived in a neighbourhood that was straight out of Leave it to Beaver, though I didn't realise how great it was until I was older. Spent some great summer days there riding my bike (banana seat, no handbrakes kind), swimming, playing sardines, pickup baseball, and kickball, and spending all my cash on candy at the small general store nearby. It so nice to have an environment that was different from every other one I'd lived in.
I hope there are still places where the kids can play freely from sun-up to sundown, and then use the darkness to catch fireflies and explore space with a telescope. Or that there are still parents who allow their kids to do that.
Nobody likes: thanks for the pics & info. That Philly guy does not like Kate at all. Jon's GF looks very pretty, and may not be as young as 10 years younger than Kate, but looks 10 years younger. And even if Jon's GF is 27, that's only 8 years younger than Jon. I think Jon is going to be very careful, who he goes out with and does.
Boy, I bet that just rubs Kate raw. Jon can get GF's and Kate can't even manage to get one date, in 3 years. Purseboy does not count. I think PB is her road manager/handler. Kate can grift stuff, but can't handle going thru an airport, or going anywhere by herself.
Crazy:
yes ! one potato, two potato...I have mentioned that to people and they all look at me like I'm crazy!
NLAN, thank you for your 3 posts in a row (27, 28, 29). It's so good to see good things written about Jon. I do believe he is a better person than Kate. He knows that charity is the way to mend past mistakes. I only hope that the children one day will be able to look back and say, 'Hey what did Mom ever do to pay back for everything that was given to us?'
And OT, Call Me Crazy and Once a Viewer thank you for the 60's memories. Kick the can, the ice cream truck, after dinner all the kids on the block playing hide n' seek until sundown. Having kids' only picnics in the back woods behind the row of houses. We would all compare what we had to eat. There were no baggies, oriental fruit or store-bought cookies. Everything was home-made and the fruit was either an apple, orange or a piece of watermelon. Sometimes someone in the group had a big bag full of dried raisins, oh what a treat!
I also think Kate put up that CS stuff, on Jon, to get, people to feel sorry for her and do the Talk Show rounds. Problem being it did not work.
So little immature childish Katie Irene, has to pull the sick act. Amazing how she was well on friday and saturday afternoon. Kate was not sick the whole weekend as she is claiming, try she was in NYC, till maybe today. Her tweets are far & few. And now a pic of Jon's new GF. That will make her really sick.
NLAN, good stuff. Jon has a lovely looking date! Good for him.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if Kate's "illness" was a little plastic surgery/botox? Hmmm, what should she work on now? Turkey neck?
Gift of Gab: had not thought of that. Funny you say that, cause that Philly guy mentioned how un-plastic suregy and botox, Jon's GF was. HMMMMM! Maybe that philly guy knows something we don't. But, I think we all figured that out.
Hey everyone, no problem posting that. I thought you would all like to see it. I hope someone tweets it to Khate, lol!
NLAN: thanks for all that info and the pic- Jon looks super happy and the date is very pretty. Nice to see.
Gift: omg, you could be right, recovering after some procedure??
Thanks for reading list, everyone. I am going to start with The Glass Castle. Love nonfiction. Nice change to see all the different blogs today.
I'm watching Dancing with the Stars confidential Tivoed from the other day.
They did an entire segment about how DWTS has helped to revitalize people's careers: Mario Lopez, Kelly Osbourne.
Yet another blown opportunity for Kate.
WhatsNext 50.......
HOWDY!
Did you check out the newly remodeled MSC? My kids said it's really nice.
Hope you liked your campus visit!

yep, I knew Kate was trying to be cute with her 'perdy'...I think perky fits better, lol.
Someone had the idea of more plastic surgery. Surely not, I mean, what's the point now?
"cause that Philly guy mentioned how un-plastic suregy and botox, Jon's GF was."
Philly guy saw Kate in person. I'm sure he knows how plastic surgery and botoxed she is.
It's good to see Jon attending these events and doing charity work. I hope it gives him good opportunities in the future.
To the poster who said earlier that DWTS wants us to think William Levy is all that, youre right! I think there's definitely a push on that show to make him a star and maybe the audience's hysteria is encouraged by the producers. I'm guessing there's a concerted effort to make him known to the American public since he's mostly known for his telenovela work. And he is doing a wonderful job of capitalizing on this: charm, good looks, good manners, humility. What's not to love? If he becomes a huge star because of DWTS, good for him, I wish him well. This is in stark contrast to Kreider who just shit all over her opportunity to touch a wide audience in a positive way. Instead, she garnered more haters.
However, I must disagree with you when you said William was not all that. OMG, to me, he's the entire package: gorgeous, sweet, respectful of men and women, and so hot it hurts.
I have to say, if Jon is trying to br a celeb again, he's going about it the right way. He's staying local, building up a good reputation in his home state, keeping his comments general and non-specific. His PR team is to be commended.
I think I could see Jon moving into local media on some level, either as the host of a local restaurant review show or what have you. Preferably, he'd go back and get his degree in Radio, Film and Television, but maybe that's not as important as I think it might be.
And before I get tromped on - Kate can do it too. Kate's problem is she a) feels entitled, b) is difficult to work with and c) demands to start at the top. That's why she won't be successful in this field, imo.
This blog gives me little footprints on my heart (or whatever that odd sentiment is). I love to come here and learn household tips, reminisce about the good old days, and talk books! Kate is becoming more and more irrelevant. I so enjoy the conversations here.
My dryer sheet tip:
They will clean lime deposits and water spots off faucets. Scary, huh?
Who remembers Creepy Crawlers? We plugged in those metal molds and added the liquid plastic stuff when the metal was hot enough to burn us! It also came in a Flower Power motif; I can't remember the actual name, but my friends and I all had them on our pencils in the fifth grade.
And Otter Pops? BLUE Otter Pops? Nothing like them for dessert in the summer!
Now, books. If you love Bill Bryson, you should give Tracy Kidder a read. Particularly "House". I adore Elizabeth Peters and the Amelia Peabody mysteries. Ancient Egypt has been a love of mine for years, and I've actually learned a lot from her novels.
Thank you all for your suggestions. I've made a list and I'm off to the bookstore!
Notice that Jon's new GF is much younger than Kate. Nothing drives a divorced woman crazier than finding out her Ex is dating someone younger. Ha ha. Kate probably thought Jon wouldn't find someone. So Kate, how's your dating life going?
Moose -- all 4 of those authors have (or had, McBain and Parker have left us), long-running series. It's best to start at the beginning if you can, because the characters grow and change over the course of the books. Parker has 2 series I really enjoy -- Spenser -- first book is "The Godwulf Manuscript" and the Jesse Stone series (yes, the ones with the movies starring Tom Selleck). First one in that series is "Night Passage". McBain had 2 series also, the Matthew Hope books, which I don't care much for, and the 87th precinct books. First in that series is "Cop Hater". Some of their books are being re-released, so you might find them at B&N. If not, you can probably get them from Amazon Marketplace, abebooks.com, or alibris. Of course, they are probably available at your public library, too. Marcia Muller has written a couple of short series and some stand-alones, but her best, and most famous is the Sharon McCone series. First book there is "Edwin of the Iron Shoes". Again, a used book site or the library is your best bet. McCone is a PI, and Muller is credited, along with Sue Grafton and Sara Paretsky, with developing the "hardboiled" female PI. Muller is the best of the 3, IMO. Crombie writes a series featuring a couple of Scotland Yard detectives, although she is an American. First book in her series is "A Share In Death". McBain can be very raw -- lots of violence and language, but excellent writer (He was also Evan Hunter, who wrote "The Blackboard Jungle". Parker -- also lots of violence and some language. Muller, violence but very little language. Crombie, some violence, rare language, and some relationships -- her books are procedurals but also character driven and some cozy aspects. All very good writers.
NLAN -- thanks for printing that info on Jon. I agree. It's nice to see people giving him some credit for working on his life and trying to change and do some good. He shouldn't get a pass for past mistakes, but he needs to be given credit for having the intelligence and character to admit his screw-ups and trying to make amends for them. His new GF is very pretty, but if I were her, I'd be insulted at being compared to KK in appearance. She's much prettier and more feminine and softer appearing than KK ever was.
Sillimom, I've always thought that Kate completely blew an absolutely golden opportunity to really learn about production and translate her time on this reality show into a real job in T.V. behind the camera.
In a way her show was a dream internship thousands of people can only hope for. She got to see and be involved in all levels of production. But did she get involved? Not really from what we can tell. Did she bother to learn anything or really become an expert in a specific area of production, such as writing, producing or directing? Doesn't seem like it.
If someone were serious about getting into production, they could have made one of the producers their mentor, asked thousands of questions, asked to get involved in all levels of production on the show, made hundreds of connections in the business, and built up an out of this world resume. Really, experience is far more important than a college degree in that industry. Kate was handed experience on a golden platter and just walked on by it.
Pity Party, I'll be curious to hear what you think of Glass Castle. I enjoyed it; it's a hoot at times (you even find yourself rooting for the parents, "Come on, dad!"), but like A Child Called It, I wondered if it wasn't embellished - she remembers many, many details which make the story funnier or worse or whatever. Another one about a lost childhood is Blackbird, by Jennifer Lauck, and the sequel Still Waters. A truly horrific story of abuse which resulted in split personalities is When Rabbit Howls. Lessons to be learned from all those books, to be sure.
She did get a short gig co-hosting with Mary Hart, but it sure didn't last very long. Her problem is she always expects jobs to land in her lap without any effort. If she had really wanted to stay in the business she should have used some of the money from DWTS to take a media communications program of some kind and combining that with the experience she already had on tv she could have made some kind of a career for herself. She doesn't realize that people like her are a dime a dozen. You have to have something more to offer than being a mom of eight.
Maybe she's waiting for a Real Housewives of Berks County job to turn up on her doorstep. She'll have to make friends with a few people first.
New post! Thanks for the head's up about the new family of sextuplets!
Here's a blast from the past..
how about bonnie bell lip smackers?
Farrah Fawcett bikini posters?
mood rings?
having to take your turn sitting on the ice cream maker?
Captain Kangaroo?
Romper Room?
Speed Racer?
The Munsters?
Happy Days?
Laverne and Shirley?

Anybody read Gone With the Wind? I loved to watch the movie until I read the book..the book is so much better! My grandparents saw this movie when it came out in Dec 1939 while on their honeymoon..one of the first movies in color.
Pity Party, PJ's Momma and I are going to be waiting for a book report.
I found myself oddly liking the parents (sometimes), but I think it is because she loved them in spite of their faults and her dangerous childhood. JW's second book, Half Broke Horses is about her grandmother and fills in the background of her "unbalanced" mother.
When the Rabbit Howls is not for the faint of heart.
I have a list of reading recommendations -- thank you.
Dmasy, I was rooting for the dad more than the mom because she obviously had mental issues, but he had just a funny attitude, but when he got into the kids' money..........gloves came off. I wanted to wring his neck. I did read Half Broke Horses too. Do you know Jeanette Walls has had quite a career in journalism? She's also a wealthy socialite (or something).
I know there is a new post, but I just got both books The Glass Castle and Half Broke Horses for $4.00 each including shipping on Amazon.
Even LA county wouldn't take your kids for that. I agree with Sillimom. By the way it was an orange county woman who just won a 4.9 million dollar settlement after social workers lied and removed her kids. Google Deanna Fogerty Hardwick to read more. The attorneys who took her case were awarded an attorney of the year award by California Lawyer magazine. Orange county is really tip toeing around after that.
I found this.... is there any truth to it
