I don't think she puts her boys' wishes or needs near the top of her list ( and girls- Cara likes sports, maybe a couple of the other girls?) And good point re: sports being a good way to keep kids focused on a healthy outlet in these horrible growing up years amidst drugs, alcohol, vandalism, gangs, petty crime etc. So many pluses in sports.
Yeah I'm not sure why that article implies it's just personality disorders because parentification can happen when a parent dies, or when a parent is always at work or on business trips, when a parent is simply neglectful, and many other reasons. But in Kate's case it is related to her personality disorder.
Commonly you might see it when a parent dies in the child of that same sex. For instance if a mother dies, the oldest daughter might perform the motherly duties, the motherly talks, the motherly bonding time, to the younger ones, even if Dad is stepping up 100% as a parent.
What creeps me out the most about the parentification is how part and parcel Kate is to it. It's one thing if it happens when you don't want it to, like a widowed spouse struggling to raise their kids, quite another when you're practically egging it on.

As Canadians, hockey runs through our veins, and we certainly watched the Penquins and the Flyers game this afternoon. It would make sense to me that the boys would want to watch the game and cheer their team, hey, the girls too! But, was it part of the pre-approved "play plan"? And, if not, could the twins have filed an amendment to their ailing mother in time to catch the game?
This is another thing I am curious about. Do the kids watch anything other than old Kate Plus 8 programs she seems to have running on a continuous loop? We know about their movie nights, and Kate's lineup of various reality shows, but no sports or sports teams are ever mentioned, nor are educational programs.
Seems to me these kids are always in one another's company, either at home, on the bus, and I assume at school. It's as if Kate feels 8 kids are enough, and having friends outside their own siblings makes no sense to her whatsoever. For them, I imagine this is getting old. They need a life that includes the friends I hope they are making at school. Why does she keep them apart from their peers?

Well she's risen from her sick bed and made a dinner the kids just "raved" about. Of course they did. They know the game and know what happens if they don't rave about everything she does.

I am not sure my childhood would have been nearly as happy as it was without this multitude of friends in many diverse places.

There is nothing for these kids outside of the compound and school. It's beyond my comprehension how none of the boys has ever been mentioned to be participating in sports. They need to be roughing around with other boys, not with their sisters all the damn time.
Most parents I know have started their kids in sports very early, like 3 years old for soccer and T-ball. Too cute when they all run the wrong way!

Also, where is the red meat? These kids get Chicken or beans, and no pizza...you never hear of the kids having hamburger, steak, or pork chops, or fish, but she gets her fish in white paper. I know some people firmly believe in no red meat, but that is always hard to get the iron in for young growing kids...

Kate underfeeds her kids. The gaunt-looking boys (their faces are way too lean for their age), and her testimony concerning water resolving chronic headache issues for one of the girls gives proof to their lack of nutrition.
I wish she would serve these kids real food on a real plate.
I also feel Kate only does for herself. The kids don't appear to enjoy after school activities, no clubs, no athletics. No dance, gymnastics, soccer, tennis, no piano (even though they have a free piano!)..kids don't appear to go to friends' houses on the weekends, nor do they appear to have sleepovers at their own home. Gee, Kate even keeps the kids away from the whole Kreider family..no grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins..
The only thing I can think they get to do is go to private school. (It seems that the twins do some extra-curricular things at school, but that's about it.)
Why some people think she's a good mom baffles me.
I think Kate no longer buys half a cow since TLC isn't paying. They never have beef, which (especially when grass-fed and lean) is an excellent source of protein, vitamins and minerals.
She does do pork per her blog and tweets.
Kate prides herself on eating organic, when organic does not mean "good for you", necessarily. She also eschews red meat and acts pious about it, when it is a great source of nutrients.
She knows nothing about nutrition.
Oh brother, there is chicken. I hope she has finally learned how long to cook. I don't eat chicken unless it is pulling away from the bone. My mother taught us that when we were young. Moist juice chicken? No thanks I will take my well done and dry with a little sauce.

Ive often wondered if her kids are allowed free access to snacks. Can they wander into the kitchen whenever they feel and grab some fruit or a yogurt or whatever? I know on the show Kate never allowed it but now that they are older I would think they can.
I just find it so strange that her kids diets are soooo controlled. My fridge always has a big container of fresh fruit, washed and cut up for the kids to grab. I also have another one with raw veggies (with dip if they want). They also can grab stuff like yogurt, whole wheat gold fish, ect. Geez, my 7yo can make himself a sandwich if he wants.
Oh, now this latest tweet just takes the cake! A spokesman for cyber bullying? Is she crazy? Why can she and her fans not see the vicious bullying they do to the non fans. I would say that anyone who would call someone's employer and search them down to harass them as some of her fans do would not have the nerve to claim bullying. Just this week in you attacks and lying about Jon and his CS payments should be enough to get some of her custody taken away. There is proof he is current. I don't think the kids are starving, but I do believe they will have food issues due to Kate's controlling ways.
What bugs me is once again that meal is crap. All starch and fatty meat, doctored up beans. Where is the non-starchy veggie? Three meats? Fatty sausage, fatty wings, and tuna in the WHITE pasta salad? Preservative laden beans and starchy peas?
Actually, for a picnic meal, this wouldn't be bad, but all her meals are like this, and I think it's disgusting that she has bragged for years that she is all about organics and healthy food, yet brags about these unhealthy, unbalanced meals at the same time.
National Geographic? Well at least a fan is trying to educate them. Better than chocolates.

I figure Kate's reasoning behind controlling the food in her house is that she can't have 8, count 'em 8, kids eating at will all day long. She'd go broke, ya know. Let us know how that goes when you have teens in your house Kate! I know some families who control the food intake of their kids way more than I do. I strive for a healthy balance between letting my kids eat what/when they want for snacks and making sure they mostly have healthy foods to choose from. I only limit snacks when we're getting close to meal time. My husband grew up in a home where food was controlled, and you were bad if you ate junk food. If you wanted a snack you had a piece of bread or an orange. As soon as he could drive and have a part time job he started hiding junk food in his room. To this day he over does it with chips and soft drinks, but I refuse to nag him about it.

Tweeties are commenting about straightening hair, asking how long it takes to straighten their hair, and so on. I may be way off base, but in our neck of the woods, to "straighten" hair means to comb it or brush it, not straighten it with flat irons or whatever to make it straight.

Penn seemed pretty arrogant in the beginning but he's stepped back, reigned in a bit, and you can tell he's making a real effort to get along with the group and restrain himself. I liked how he handled the girl fight. He just patiently listened to each side and didn't insert himself into the drama.
Even Clay seems to understand what sets him off and makes an effort to just shut his mouth and back away when he sees a good conflict coming on, lol. I like seeing self-improvement on celebrity apprentice too, that is fun too.

That episode was very disturbing. I think that is the one when they roused him (A) he was lying in his own vomit. All the boys are much thinner now than then. How could a mother look at her children in that state and not be aghast and start calorie concentrating their foods? One that doesn't want them to outgrow their clothes maybe? Who knows. I watched only bits and pieces of that one and would have to turn away. It made me sick, not the vomit, the whole concept and her attitude toward her very sick children. It takes about 3 days to get over something like that but the little troopers that they are never missed a beat.
If I had her money and 8 kids to feed, I would happily hire a cook (and a housekeeper too) and shout it from the rooftop. How wonderful that would be. Instead, she is so CONTROLLING she portions out the kids' crap meals because she wants to prove to her sheeple she is "can-do" Kate. What she serves the kids proves how lazy and unimaginative she is when it comes to nutrition for growing kids. Her food issues are scary. I truly hope that the kids are getting decent meals from an invisible nanny.

I missed CA last night. I forgot about it. Who went home? That Lisa girl is indeed a bully. She is really mean to Dayana. Dayana is much stronger than she is given credit for. She has been brought back to the boardroom on every loss and manages to survive when trump asks the question - you din't lose because of Dayana did you? I hope Lisa doesn't win. Last night we had lasagna, two veggies and garlic bread.
I let them fill their own plates, too! :)(and no paper or prison plates are used; we don't even have them in the house.)
This morning I got up at 5:20 (gasp!) took out the dogs, fed the birds, gathered laundry, read the paper. I made pancakes from scratch,too. In a minute will make sausage and egg wraps for older daughter who goes to school at a later time..
Guess I need to start taking pics!!!
Oh, almost forgot. This morning threw two chuck roasts in the crockpot for dinner tonight.
Kate, if only you were so organized..and I'm sure there are a lot of moms who out-performed me this morning.
I can't figure out how she can sleep in until 530 with that many kids to get ready for school. I get up ten minutes earlier than she does, and the three kids I have left at home are all older than hers. I start getting kids up at 6:00, and the younger two kids and myself are out the door at 710. (then it's back home to awaken older kid and make her breakfast).
I just don't see how she can get them all ready, fix breakfast and be out the door. She has to have morning help.

She has a breakfast pic, 9/5...it looks like a strip of bacon, and some brown things..I looked at them for a long while, finally decided they might be pancakes? and paper plates, no less. How long does it take to put 8 plates in the dishwasher! It takes more effort to buy and tote home all those paper plates, then drag that trash can down the driveway, than to put 8 plates in one of two dishwashers.
Also, one kid must have been bad, only seven plates have food on them.
I also saw the pic of the boy on the floor...he's just way too thin. A boy that age should still have baby fat; the arm was way too thin,and I can't believe the ribs. Way too thin.
I wonder if the kids hide food in their rooms? Wouldn't surprise me.
To be snarky, maybe the kids ARE using all of Jon's 3600 a month child support on school lunches...they are starving at home!
Kate will respond in some way, pictures probably, to all the talk about how she feeds the kids. Sure, nobody wants their kids to be obese and eat nothing but junk food, but this women carries it to the extreme. Just because she is obsessed with eating is no reason to deny your children healthy meals. For the love of God, she ought to at least let them dish out what they want. Controlling bitch. Wasn't CPS involved in some cases with the opposite problem, kids taken from parents who allow their kids to be morbidly obese?
Those sectioned plates are PERFECT for portion control-- for adults.
I use the largest section for vegetables. Meat & carbs go in the smaller sections. When the food is gone, you are done eating. Brilliant diet tool.
As far as children using those plates- they are perfect for toddlers.
I used to serve meals in those plates when my kids were very little. As they got older, they graduated to "mommy & daddy" sized plates.
You can also buy those portion plates that are not paper. I don't understand why the paper plates? Surely the kids are able to load the dishwasher if Kate is too lazy.

That was very interesting, seeing it all together like that- how could she possibly say that meal last night was "impressive' except as an example of a poor attempt to clean out leftovers from the fridge. And yes, that's little Aaden. So sad.When will she learn the kids are not toddlers anymore and need to eat? I'm sure she must have put one of those kids, if not two, on a diet or extreme portion control. She seems to abhor an ounce of healthy fat- she used to be on Jon's case all the time, and she was not skinny herself, just average and looked fine- then.

He's not on the floor. He is on seats on the boat, and the photo was taken a year and a half ago. It's not a recent picture, and nobody knows if he's gained weight since then. If there is a problem with any of them, I'm sure Jon is aware of it and knows how to deal with it. At least I would hope so. I don't think that this is the place to discuss it...just my opinion.
I'm curious...is there a way to tell on twitter what time someone starts tweeting in the mornings? My recollection is that on the original show, Jon used to get up with the kids and Kate often slept in....so wondering if her tweets ever corroborate her claims of how early she gets up in the morning. I'm a bit skeptical of the 5:30 am. claims.
Our mom was also very controlling with food and she also had serious eating obsessions that bordered on orthorexia. I'm not sure what the relationship between the two issues were, but we weren't allowed to go in the kitchen and get anything to eat for ourselves and she had NO sweets of any kind in the house....all "health" food pretty much.
When we were teens, we got my grandfather's car when he died and we older ones used it for transportation to and from summer jobs. And I remember one day, one of my friends looked under the front seats of the car and laughed, saying that all her other friends' brothers left beer cans under the car seats but that mine left tasty-cake wrappers and candy bar wrappers under there.
And one of my sisters, who later got a Master's degree and married a doctor, got caught pilfering candy from a local convenience store when she was a little kid and rode her bike over there.
I remember we would ransack our father's pockets for pennies and then ride our bikes pretty far away in the neighborhood, wait for the ice cream man and buy an ice cream and eat it far enough away so our mom wouldn't know.
The pic of the meal she posted....it's not horrible...it's food...but it's that she's patting herself on the back for it and claiming she got raves for it. It's an average picture of some rather mis-matched leftovers....certainly nothing to crow about.

If Jon has any concerns, he should march those kids to the pediatrician. Agreed we don't know what their weight situation is now, but from what she serves them and the story last year of how they were forced to eat their leftover school lunches, she is certifiable. Which is exactly why she should let those kids eat on regular plates! I know when my kids were very young and still eating off those plates, they had a hard time cutting anything because of the sections. We switched. If they are going to learn to cut up their food, they need regular plates!

My nephew was built exactly like that at that same age. He ate extremely well and was quite healthy. The dr had to reassure his parents that things were fine, it was just his build (like his dad's side of the family). Now at age 14, he is STILL built that way, eats great, is an athlete, and is in great health. It's his body type. Back then people probably looked at him and thought something was wrong - there wasn't, it was just him. And he's still the same; a little embarrassed that he's so slight but using it to his advantage in track and other sports :).

I just can't believe that anyone with any intelligence can't see this! Kate certainly sees her tweets and knows what's going on, and yet they both cozy up to each other! What is wrong with Kate? I'd never want to be around her, much less let my kids be anywhere near her. I hope Jon has red flags about this and puts the fear of God into her. If she doesn't listen, then I'd march back into court. This sheeple clearly is so far mentally gone that she should be institutionalized.
I don't buy into the inherited body type issue with these kids. Jon and his brother are, shall we say, husky, Kate was never rail thin, her sister is not, and neither Jon and Kate are tall. If it was one child that was skinny, I'd say that child was a picky eater, but when the majority of your kids are thin and the parents are not, then something is going on.

When Kate made that comment earlier about taking care of the pic "FAST," I don't think she was clear on the fact that it came directly from footage that was aired on her TV program. I imagine she'll be changing her tune--or IGNORING the entire issue altogether--in short order.
The kids all got on the scale at the Food Drive episode and the average weight was perfectly normal.
Both Jon and Kate could have started out as slight kids before adulthood caught up. My parents are average to on the heavy side and myself and my siblings are rail thin, getting less so as the years go by.
MOVE ON from the weight issue, for the third time. Discussing how Kate is handling the pic however is fine.

Rhonda shows everyone around. The little kids pile onto the food scale. They weigh 275 pounds total. At 45 pounds average per six-year-old (this was filmed in March 2011), thankfully that sounds pretty healthy. They probably fill up at Jon's.

After watching the fishing boat video, I am convinced this woman is incapable of any empathy, and is completely disconnected from her children. Her detachment is glaringly clear as she watched her kids suffer without comforting them.
She is despicable, putting her children through the unnecessary trauma of seasickness for what? She could have asked the Captain to turn the boat around, but did not. If she had been throwing her guts up in to a bucket that boat would have been headed back to shore in a nano-second!
I did not watch her show, but was turned off her behavior watching her DWTS. If this video is any example, there is not one snippet of goodness in her. She is one nasty piece of work. Who would put this woman back on television?

The kids are small, they are as we say in this area "fine featured." Kate and Jon both have stocky builds, but the kids do not. Genetics don't necessarily have to come from the parents, but rather can skip a generation. Perhaps their build comes from the Asian gene in Jon's background, or maybe it has something to do with the fact that they were preemies. I'm sure they have regular checkups from their pediatrician. These are required at the beginning of the school year. If something was seriously wrong, I would hope that the physician would alert the parents to it.
I see these kids. They do not appear to be starving, undernourished, or look like they are from Third World Countries. Of course, I don't see them without their shirts. They are not falling over from hunger. They are on the slight side, but so are many kids their age.
What I did find appalling, however, was that Valentine's Day breakfast she put out there. I wonder if they ask for more food if she gives it to them or tells them they have enough. That's what concerns me. Kate has food issues, but to carry that control over to the kids is just plain wrong. I wonder if they'd enjoy having their meals served family style, big bowls of potatoes and vegetables on the table to pass around. That's the way we all grew up in this area, but she seems hell-bent on dolling out portions on those sectioned plates. I wouldn't do it that way, but they're not my kids, and not every family serves food the same way. I just wonder, however, how much they would eat if THEY were the ones to decide the portions.

Ok so I'm attempting to watch that video of the boat. I hesitated because I find her so completely unwatchable and her lack of care about the kids just ends up pissing me off.
It's buffering, so it's interesting because I only watch maybe 30-45 seconds at a time. So I get to notice a lot.
This is a little thing compared to not caring about them being so violently sick on the boat, but before they took off on the golf cart, one of the boys was being a pirate and said, "ARRR!" and Kate corrected him with, "No, not ARRR, ARG!" There's so much speculation about these kids being starved, and I really just had to say what I see.
That photo never should have been passed around on the blogs -- I don't agree with that. Yes, Kate put everything out there and allowed TLC to film it, but why should those who are concerned with the kids' privacy continue to expose them? Isn't that defeating the purpose of fighting for the kids privacy when you do exactly the same thing Kate has done?
And yes, I understand that many are concerns because of what they see in the photo, but there are those who are close to the kids - their pediatrician, their father, school personnel, who know if something is seriously wrong.
Just my two cents...
You know, at 5:37, she's talking to the captain and it's obvious she COULD have them turn around and go back. The vomiting didn't start very far into the trip, so it's not like it would have been a big deal.
I watch Anthony Bourdain and sometimes he does shows on the "backstory" of his shows--as in, what happens behind the scenes. And many, MANY times they have to call off stuff, stop it, go back, do something else, because of factors like this and many others. It's called making a TV show. Crap happens. Bourdain is more protective of the well-being of his crew than Kate is of her KIDS, for crying out loud.
And later, around the 8:30 mark, she rationalizes going ahead and fishing like SHE wanted to by saying, "It's not like we could say 'stop the world, we want off.'"

Re: the food pics. It's not the amount of food that bothers me so much, it's the presentation (or lack thereof) and what the contents are.
It's starchy, fatty, prepared food....from the queen of organic food, who doesn't understand that organic doesn't equal healthy. It wouldn't be so bad if *one* of the dishes was that kind of thing. But when they *all* are, that's pretty pathetic.
And it just plain looks like pig slop. Like somebody slopped a spoonful of this, that, and whatever else, onto the plates, without a care as to how appealing it might look. Here's some food. Eat it and shut up, is what those plates look like.
I never served my kids food once they were past about 4 years old, instead serving things family style. I served the food nicely in serving bowls, with serving spoons. I gave some thought to variety of food, textures, and colors.
I wanted my kids to feel that I cared enough about them to make the food look presentable, and to have a variety of healthy food on the table for them to choose from.
Not just a bunch of canned swill slopped onto the plate without a thought as how it goes together. Here ya go kids! Come and getcher food!
From someone who prides herself on her organization and cooking skills those are some really dismal looking plates. I wouldn't eat much either.
What I'd really like to see is screenshots of all the horrendously horrendous faces Kate has made over the course of years taken from her precious show that finally got cancelled. One pic after another of her ugliness and bitterness held forever in suspension and spreading like wildfire across that twitter feed she thinks so much of. There is no short supply of those.

Last night we had lasagna, two veggies and garlic bread.
I let them fill their own plates, too! :)(and no paper or prison plates are used; we don't even have them in the house.)
This morning I got up at 5:20 (gasp!) took out the dogs, fed the birds, gathered laundry, read the paper. I made pancakes from scratch,too. In a minute will make sausage and egg wraps for older daughter who goes to school at a later time..
Guess I need to start taking pics!!!
Oh, almost forgot. This morning threw two chuck roasts in the crockpot for dinner tonight.

Regarding the unstable sheeple who is going on the cruise. I'm not sure what can be done. She can't very well be banned from the cruise, and there has been no threat, so a restraining order couldn't be issued.
Other than making sure that there is adequate security, that Jon knows how dangerous this person is, and that Kate and the girls stay far enough away from her, what other measures could be taken?
Of course, maybe the cruise will be cancelled, and then it will be a moot point.
Nothing wrong with being a SAHM, so why is Kate acting like she is not one atm? CC is just a small at-home venture. She should not act like it's beneath her to admit she is one- many women enjoy and are proud of their SAHM stints.She could at least try to do a better job at it!

No, the thing is, Kate brags about doing the TINIEST things like she just achieved a Nobel Prize. So sometimes on 15 minutes, moms take a moment to remind Kate what ACTUAL people do in a day. And it's not sitting on Twitter, going for a long walk, yelling at the cleaning help, straightening her hair and bothering to go to the bus stop.
She's got it easy, everyone knows it, but she acts like her life is sooooooo hard. She always has. Even back when she had TONS of help. That boat video? She had the entire TV crew and most of the boat crew helping her by holding buckets in front of kids faces. She had a production assistant who was THROWING UP AT THE TIME clean up one of her kid's vomit off a bench. She didn't care. But then she had the balls to bitch about how great it was to have a MOMENT of rest between the puking. No thank yous to the crew of the show and the boat who helped her. Without them, she'd be sunk, no pun intended.
So sheeple, listen up: if it's ok for your idol to shamelessly brag at every turn, then you've got no room to criticize anyone else if they want to share what THEY have to get done in a day. Sorry if it's more impressive than your queen. Almost anyone's day is.

MONEY TIP! As for savings: Check out Lowes, if you are into houseplants, they mark down perfectly good houseplant by 75%. I got: 8 weaved bamboo in vase for $3.99 marked down cause vase was cracked, took it home and re-vased it, will use hair line cracked vase with dryed plants/flowers, orignal price was $10.98. I got Peace lilys for 99 cents, regularly $4.98. All Lowes do this, I have 4 of them in my, area, and only does have a lot marked down. The plants are usually there too long, so they mark them down: clearance. So far none have died. I also go to Butera, they have a veggie bargin rack, lunch meat ends, day old bread. You want to save, look for those things at your stores.
