Living life in episodes

Kate's tweets over the past few months sound straight from a storyboard

Kate's tweets and pics seem to be exploiting more and more of the children's private moments, from birthday parties to pizza making to lacrosse games. And just this week, Kate posted her first video, a short clip of Leah snapping her toes that had a creepy "trained monkey" vibe to us. Filming children certainly has its risks, but is this kind of public exposure on twitter just as damaging to kids?

Said one popular Mommy blogger who wants to continue to blog about her family:

"There’s something about mothers lifting back the veil of the family that upsets people, that leads people to accuse the mothers who dare do such a thing of neglecting their maternal duties, of exploiting their children, of exposing their children to the dangers of the public sphere, of being bad. But that’s precisely what makes mom-blogging – to overuse a deservedly overused phrase – a radical act. We’ve always been told to not lift the veil. We’ve always been told to stay behind the veil, no matter what. We’ve always been told that the sanctity and well-being of our families depends upon the integrity of that veil – upon modesty and privacy and keeping our struggles and our victories to ourselves. Which has, over the course of the history of Western civilization (and that of other civilizations, of course, although I cannot speak to these with any authority), kept us isolated from one another. Kept us silent. I choose not to be silent. I choose to tell my stories, tell – while she is young – her stories, tell the stories of she and I and our family and our place in this world and to pull meaning from those stories and to speculate on those meanings and to reflect, out loud, on what it means to be a mom in this day and age and other days and ages and all the days and ages to come. I choose to use my voice, my fingers, my keyboard to make myself heard. I choose to write. If that makes me appear, to some, a crazy, narcissistic, exploitative zombie-pimp who whores her child out for the sake of a few bucks and the self-indulgence of storytelling, then so be it."

Today is the last day of school? What I can't understand is how few days the Gosselin kids are actually in school? In the Northeast, there are 180 required days of school. We only get 1 week off at Christmas, and start in August - and we don't end school until June 15, earlier than usual because of so few snow days. The Gosselin's private school has a ridiculous amount of days off. I wish my kids had so much time off!

Who but a narcissist would think anyone else would be that interested in our families P R I V A T E moments? WE all have our own private moments to cherish and YOURS mean nothing to us. What Kate finds so cute from her kids are just mediocre and mundane to us, as we all know OUR own kids are so much cuter, smarter, funnier, see where I'm goin!
WHY can't she get this? Oh yeah, that's her mantra, "I don't get it, I just don't get it" about so many things. All I keep telling myself is everything has a shelf life and sooner or later hers WILL catch up with her. Hint to Someone (anyone) - PULEEZE let hers catch up sooooooon!

Your summer schedule for Kate was HILARIOUS-and will probably go down exactly like you posted.

Kate's tweet this morning ....ohhh I just giggled out loud as I set my alarm clock for crack of dawn for the FINAL time until next school year! Now THAT makes me happy!

You've got Kate figured out!

This is so strange. She calls it "lifting the veil", I see it as publishing private information.

I wonder if this blogger will change her mind when her children are old enough to object?

Kate is a Witch said... 6

I love how that mommy blogger makes it sound as if she's on some mission or calling when all she's doing is telling stories on her kids in a very public way. But of course that kind of rationalization (lifting the veil! --how dramatic! --how literary! --how political and noble!) is necessary to argue that she's not exploiting her kids.

What it all boils down to for me is this: who the hell is interested??? Most of our kids, as much as we'd like to believe otherwise, are very normal and no different than anyone else's kids. I used to ask why people watched J&K+8 even way back when it started, because it just seemed to be a bunch of toddlers screaming all the time. Who wants to watch that?

And of course, there's the million dollar question: should you really be making this decision FOR your kids? To reveal their private lives to every creepazoid on the internet?

No. You really shouldn't. I'd take it a step further and say I wish it weren't even allowed. I don't care if mommies want to tell stories on themselves all day long. But keep your kids' privacy protected.

Oh and yes, Kate is now living 100% in Fantasy Land, choosing to pretend that her life is still being filmed in episodes. It's quite disturbing and sad. She needs professional mental health help, yesterday.

Dwindle@65....will hold you to that funny schedule you have Kate on. Do we have to wait 12 whole days before she flips out? I think it will be a lot sooner. Especially if none of those dream jobs comes through. She's gonna go crazy being stuck with those kids all summer. Of course she'll never let you know that....but usually she gives herself away because she just can't contain herself. That'll be a fun day...

omg, on OMG KATE GOSSELIN is NOT even listed in the alpha list of celebrities. Wonder if SHE knows she doesn't exist there. KARMA IS A BIIITCH!

There is nothing wrong with recording your life, but to do it publicly in front of strangers, without the consent of your children, is just not right. Anyone who thinks their stories warrant public display is a narcissist.

Back to the b-day parties, that photo where you guys see two moms chatting hidden by the kids, one of them is a man. Check out the hairy legs. Could be a dad or PB.

BTW, the girls' cake was too nice looking for them to bake and decorate. They had help and it wasn't from their mother. We all have seen her baking talents.

Too funny that the meal courses were all written out. Somebody is in to imitating their mother with her menu board.

The tweets and blog postings are getting more self-serving with time. They "prove" she's a cheery happy mommy, that she works hard, and that her kids are happy. Yet they ring completely false and set off alarms with their over-the-top claims of gratitude and screeching from those locked up kids. Her contempt for her own sons is just astounding and permeates every episode. Her delusion that somehow she is a bullied victim, that people lie about her is laughable. Will she ever see herself as the problem? It's been her all along and she's taken down so many people with her craziness. She lobs grenades at the world, behaves like an ass, and hides behind her children and her sterile fortress for protection. Oh and yes, she appears to be living her life in episodes still.

Well said, Admin. I understand there's a certain transcendency that comes of telling our stories, and that we build communities through shared experiences. But Kate's endless prattle about her kids, her constant "storyboarding"...it comes down to this (at least for me): Whose story is it, really, and what gives you the right to tell it?

Apparently young children have no rights in the mommy-blogging world, and as the blogger above puts it, even after at least examining the cons and thinking about it, her desires and needs win. She does understand and acknowledges just what she is doing. Kate, in her own narcissistic dream world, does not have that smidgen of introspection.

And she's off and running at the mouth again ths morning; the start of her KIDS long summer break is all about HER, HER, HER. And clueless grifter that she is she is tweeting about how her kids are BEGGING for a beach vacation. So, TAKE them you cheap bitch - oh sorry, unless it's a 6K rental house on a semi- private beach, with cameras, crew and your long gone paid friends to help, nuh-uh, not ever going to happen. Hmm, do they remember that San Diego, where Mom is going, has beaches? Hope not.

if she really wanted her kids to have the beach vacation they are BEGGING for, she could bring them to San Diego (with a Nanny) and spend time with them after she cheats in the marathon. It's not that hard, Kate! You just have to pay for it yourself!

That's exactly my feeling. I agree also with the poster who said Kate tweets and posts pics to prove something to herself, as well as to keep her kids in the public eye. I don't know why the internet site wold be that interested in the b-day pics, maybe one of the group. That actually must have made Kate happy to see them posted there. As for her dislike of the boys,it was obvious from the start- maybe her 'plan' was for sextuplet girls? I mean, really, a party in the garage with a broken door ( not yet fixed?) But she does seem to dislike the male gender...the woman needs help but will never seek it. Poor kids.

TLC stinks said... 19

She would have to check PB's calendar before she could plan a vacation, not that she'll pay for one.

What a joke that she doesn't know how to sleep until 7 a.m. I bet the twins are responsible for getting the tups' breakfast anyway.

Dmasy said... 20

I have looked at the birthday pictures.

Her photographs continue to be a hold the camera and snap result. She has no natural photography talent. She still looks down and odd angles, fails to check out the background, and frames her subjects poorly.

We have speculated here that Steve lives in the apartment above the garage. These pictures would indicate that space is a reserved for more transient visitors. She has printed signs on the door outside and under the thermostat -- as if she is leaving instructions for someone who cleans or stays infrequently. The furnishings are very sparse.

Maybe the twins, who staged the parties, wanted space away from Kate while they did their "magic". Maybe they requested moving the party out of the house so they could have some freedom. Or, maybe Kate just didn't want the "mess" in her home.

The kids are back in the big house when it is time to open their gifts. They seem to have to "sit on the stripe" to do that, too.

Congratulations to the twins for arranging two birthday parties for their siblings. The girls cake was charming. The boys cake was missing in action.

Here's my problem with this. I think it completely distorts what those who question "mommy blogging" are saying.

I'm not saying never share your problems, hide your problems, dont' talk about things, stay hidden behind a veil. Not at all.

I'm saying, there are appropriate ways to see to share your life's problems and ups and downs--with family of course, friends, a pastor or rabi, church group, teachers, husband, children. No one is saying HIDE things. Share, by all means. I just don't find it appropriate to constantly share such things on a Mommy blog with STRANGERS day after day.

Take all the photos you like of your kids and share them--with people you KNOW and trust.

I think the internet can be a great community for sharing, but when it crosses the line to invading your children's privacy before they are even old enough to consent, it becomes a bad thing.

Katie Cry-duh said... 22

Those kids are begging for a beach vacation? Really? Because the ones they've been on thus far look anything but fun. Wait 2 hours for mom to do hair and makeup and spraytan only to run to and from the water in a race that she wins. Yay! Great fun! But if they really are begging for a vacay, at least some respite from the prison/orphanage, then by all means, Kate, take them somewhere for once on your dime. Grifting requires that you compromise where you go and who you spend time with. You think it's free but really it's bondage. Do something your family really wants to do without cameras or hangers on to
disturb you. Try having fun with them for once. Those kids have been deprived of the basics in life for too long.

I disagree with BigDreams Mommy blogger. I've never felt compelled to keep my "parenting" behind the veil nor do I think other women do. That is why sports, PTA, Gymboree, MusicTogether and MOPS is so popular. It's mom's coming together to talk about being a mom while spending times with their kids. It's one of the reasons adults go to kid birthday parties and stay - they're the new adult mixer of the 21st Century. It's why we have coffee with our mommy girlfriends or go work out at the gym together, so we can discuss many things, not just our kids.

Parenting is poopy diapers and spit up and your house looking more like a daycare than a magazine spread. It's meltdowns over homework, it's different ideas about what constitutes too much computer time, it's groans and moans over chores, it's laughter over shared experiences, it's cuddles and kisses, and a million little moments that are special just between you and your child(ren). I don't need a blog to help me share that information. I have my home girls and a good cup of joe around my kitchen table.

Ah, as summer begins she will be tweeting about (and posting pictures of) all her latest meal "creations". The kids' job this summer will be to act as her 8 (count 'em 8) testers so that she can complete the cookbook that she's writing and give a 10+++++ to all meals that she "creates". Her cookbook will not need the Good Housekeeping seal of approval because it will have the G8 seal of approval (I'd put a copyright sign here but don't know how so Kate you need my permission to use the "G8 Seal of Approval"). However, what she interprets as screeches of delight are actually screams of horror as she places yet another bean, egg, cheese, egg, eggplant parm, egg, underdone chicken (and did I mention egg) fiasco in front of them and calls it dinner! Maybe the kids actually do go through those 32 boxes of cereal so that they don't have to eat the endless slop that Kate alls creations.

This is completely off topic but I just had to share. My daughter is pregnant with her third child. One grandson wants a girl baby and the 4-year old wants another boy. When my daughter announced that the baby would be a girl the 4-year old folded his arms and pouted. The next day I had him over for lunch and he told me, 'When I was in my mommy's tummy I was a girl but I came out as a boy'. I chuckled and said 'Oh my, and what's the baby in your mommy's tummy going to come out as?' He frowned his eyebrows and thought for a moment and quickly said 'an alien'. I laughed out loud, he really does not want a sister, but I imagine that'll change once he sees her, loll.

As for Kate, she can live all the episodes she wants and believe herself to be an excellent mother, she will never know how to truly appreciate the precious time she has with her children.

This is the Straw Man argument that the "mommy blogger" attempts to put forth.
It's bullshit.
There are other ways to express yourself AND protect your child's privacy, but alas, these methods are not public and do not satisfy the need for attention that a blog brings.
I've alluded to being adopted before and as such, my mom was part of an "adoptive mothers club" for almost our entire childhood. The moms would meet once a month and discuss issues, receive support and sometimes just have fun socializing.
Why MUST one use the very large megaphone that is the internet to broadcast personal issues and "pull back the veil" (oh, cut me a break with your contrived allusion, like being a mom is tantamount to being in a cult), which typically involves divulging private information about minors?
Children can not predict most of the foreseeable and even remotely possible sequelae to their actions, but adults can... and should.

I agree with those who have pointed out that San Diego would be a lovely choice for a beach vacation with her kids, but we all know THAT isn't going to happen.

What about the pool in the backyard, last week she was so blessed to have it, this week it's not enough, we now have to have a beach with the water. Geez. We all know who is doing the BEGGING here.

My wish is that someone runs along side Kate in San Diego and outs her for the grifting fraud she is. I would be amazed if she finishes a half marathon with a decent time, and why again is she flying across the country to do this? Is she being sponsored by Rock 'N Roll? Are they paying her expenses, this is the only way it makes any sense whatsoever.

This woman is a mindless, empty, bottomless pit with no concept of real life. Whoever said she lives her life in Twitter episodes played out in her head hit the nail on the head.

Once again....again, she fails to look OUTSIDE her limited self. There are moms who have to get up early every morning during the summer to go to work. School ending is the extra complication of kids at home while they are away. The alarm clock will continue to go off early in those homes.

She refuses to see the world through the eyes of another mom. She can't seem to grasp that her self-centered tweets are painful to a real, working mother.

I recently saw Betty White at GW University (part of a Smithsonian National Zoo event) and she was as charming as can be!
I remember that watching home movies was a big "to do" when I was a child. My dad would set up a rather large screen and movie projector in our living room and show our home movies and occasionally, a Warner Brothers cartoon.
Us kids/cousins would mercilessly make fun of each other in the movie. "Hey, there's so and so picking her nose!". Stuff like that. It was a bit mortifying, so I can't imagine a child going through that publicly, knowing thousands if not millions have seen some of their embarrassing moments.

And certainly the Bombeck children were spared photos and videos of them for all the see. It's when the wall of privacy moves from words to images that the worst invasion of family moments occur.

I feel certain those typed instructions in the garage apartment by the thermomstat and light switch are for the not-a-nanny when she has to stay overnights. If Stevie sleeps in a separate bedroom when overnight, my guess there is a bedroom in the basement since there is a full bath. I know, some folks said with a pool you'd want a shower in the basement, but that house is so darn big it would be ridiculous to not a bedroom or two down there. I would think Kate is the kind of person who would not allow the not-a-nanny in the house overnight while she is home (would see and hear too much, if you get my drift).

I will be very curious to see what Kate's time is for this 1/2 marathon, because it will indicate if she is really training like she says she does. I have done Rock-n-Roll - I seriously doubt they are paying for anything, including her registration. Rock-n-Roll is a very big, very well-known, very successful organization which (for the most part) holds very successful and organized events. They don't need Kate Gosselin getting the word out for them. They sell out races all over the world without her stupid input. They stand on their own. She's paying her own way to get away from her responsibilities, yet again. She won't take her kids anywhere, not even a movie theater, but she sure pays to take herself elsewhere. I doubt she's been comped a hotel room or anything else (except for those prom dresses) for a very long time. Her nasty reputation precedes her.

All of us have events, mistakes, screwups, and other stuff in our lives we are embarrassed about as we grew up. Bad haircuts, lousy fashion choices, and ridiculous fads that were the most important thing in the world for 5 minutes... But we learned from them. Sometimes I wonder how much the mommy bloggers would like to have pictures of their droopy leaky diapered bottoms covering the Internet. I wonder if Kate would like to have pictures of her 10 year old self splattered on a blog with her mother giving a detailed description of her first period.
I dispute the idea that we have to pull back the veil. The blogger has the right to pull back the veil on their life as much as they want. They are welcome to blog about their own personal crap... You want to pull back the veil, yap about your lactose intolerance or droopy boobs or exercise routine. However, you have the right to talk about you. Your children may have dropped out of your body, but they have their own right to privacy. As their parent, you have the absolute duty to preserve that privacy. If you want to talk about potty training, let YOUR mother guest post about your potty training. Your child is a minor and deserves dignity and privacy. When they turn 18, they can decide if they want those stories told. I know several mommy bloggers that only post stories that portray their children with dignity and compassion... And I'm okay with that... Just not exploitation by parents masked under their rights

Good points about how we share stories about our parenting and our kids.

When my daughter was born, the internet was quite new. I found a tiny little private group of other new moms and began communicating with them. When I say private, I mean you couldn't access our message board without a password and it was NOT given out to just anyone. Exclusive, yes, but we were trying to protect our privacy and our kids' privacy. Even on that private board, we used aliases!

We are still together, most of us, many years later. We branched out into real names several years ago and began doing Secret Santas, holiday gifts and cards, began traveling to meet each other, etc. It's been wonderful. We STILL have the same small private board and have learned so much from each other over the years.

We did not blast out our kids' every private moment on the internet. I also shared stories with my hair stylist, other family members, and a few select coworkers, along with fellow parents in Girl Scouts, gymnastics, cheerleading, etc.

Now my daughter is grown and I have never once regretted keeping her life as private as possible. I never wanted a "mommy blog" that was publicly shared, so that anyone and everyone can know whatever they want about my kid and our lives. That always gave me the creeps.

This is why I bristled every time I heard the argument regarding Kate that "you would do it, too, for that kind of money!" No I most certainly would NOT! No amount of money is worth selling my child's private life like a commodity. And I've never chased fame. So it holds no draw for me, only negatives. Not everyone would sell their kids for fame and money, thank goodness!

The mommy blogger quoted above loves the attention. Damn her kids. She wants attention and probably a lot of stroking and back-patting for her parenting. She's probably the same kind of person who, when she gets criticized, gets her back up and claims it's not fair. But when you put everything out there, you can get both the good and the bad in response.

Kate has a sad life. No real interests or hobbies (except those which take her far away from her children). No real friends (she doesn't even know how to be a friend). No career. What is her future? To be more and more forgotten.

I keep imagining her as a different kind of Ms. Havisham from Great Expectations. Instead of a wedding gown and crumbling, rotting cake, she's wearing stiletto heels and hair extensions clomping around in that big house, looking over her shoulder for cameras all the time.

No, of course that's bull shit. People went (and still do) to church group, play dates, the park, school, etc., and shared with friends and family.

The more I think about the argument that mommy blogging is liberating and that without it women are hidden away ashamed the more I think how absolutely downright utter bogus that is. It's a flat out lie. Mommy blogging has NOTHING to do with being liberated and coming out from behind the curtain. Go to MOPS as silimom pointed out. There IS no such curtain.

. Kate is actually holding the bottom edge of Leah's dress up while spanking her. That is so mean and hurtful to do that to a small child!!!!! WHY WHOLD UP HER DRESS--WAS THAT TO GET A BETTER AIM TO HURT HER?

&&&&

It's to create the skin to skin contact that makes the slap hurt more. Without it clothes and underwear cushion the sting of it and it doesn't hurt as much. And not trying to start a spanking debate, but I too think that's AWFUL.

Her children, for whom she will do anything, are begging for a beach getaway.

Kate's definition of beach time is a wonderful, expensive home on a stunning sand dune for an entire week. Support help and cameras are included.

The kids just might mean packing a picnic basket...being loaded into the BBB. Driving a few hours to run around in the sand and then sleeping while mom drives them home. Next day, they rub aloe on their sunburns.

Kate makes everything so BIG that it can't be accomplished. Going to NY to get her hair done is not too much effort. Getting the kids (8, count 'em, 8) to an ocean is way too much trouble.

Jtn @ 45 - Well said. ITA with everything you wrote.

While we're at it, let's not forget the perverts out there. Kate must give the FBI a headache. They constantly warn against child predators/pedos on the internet and here she practically lays out a welcome mat for them. Good grief as a mother, my first instinct is to PROTECT my kids and I assume that's how most others feel. Kate is on the other end of the spectrum. She WANTED the world to look through her window and those are her words. We know WAY too much about those kids and if we do, the sickos do too.

BEGGING for a beach- well, drive to one. You have a pool; swim in it. I agree with Pink above. The kids have so much, and many ways to amuse themselves inside and out, over vacation. Plus part will be with Jon on his custody days. Imagine the life of a child who lives in a small crowded apt with no air conditioning or many toys etc. Thees kids are spoiled and so is Kate. I would love her home and property, not that I am complaining about my own life, but our family could put it to good use for more than a summer vacation's worth.

Odd how she speaks through her kids with her desires...the vacations, filming, etc. Really, Kate? They are too young for such wishes. She sure is slick, using the kids as bait for what she really wants. This is one gal who likes to be pampered and catered to, and now that TLC has closed that door, she reeks of desparation because she does not want to go back to the way it was. Besides, what would be her excuse to keep Steve around?

Does she "um, honestly" think that she's fooling anyone? Of course, we know it's Kate who is actually doing the begging.

From K8's website, a fan letter:
Dear Kate,

I realize how busy you are, so I won’t take much of your time here. I just wanted to take a quick second to tell you that, even though you don’t know why mothers cry when you’re signing books for them, you are truly an inspiration to emotionally struggling mothers across the nation! I myself find myself turning to you, in a way, when I feel like I’ve had enough. You keep me going without even knowing it! I went through something strikingly similar to what you went through (except with one baby and no cameras catching every second of it, haha). From pre-term labor to, now single, young mom of 24. We think very alike! I wish I could meet you and pick your brain apart (in the most polite way possible, of course!).

If you ever find yourself in my area and have a few moments to spare, getting to sit with you, minus the cameras and nosey people, to just chat with you would be a pleasure of my life! I live in a cute but humble place, you’re more than welcome to it any time! Thank you for taking the time to read my little letter of praise! Keep doing what you’re doing!

Sincerely,
Nikki B.

Kate's humble response:

Hi Nikki -
Thank you for telling me that I am encouraging… It encouraged me in return! I really am just like you… I’m tired, stressed, worried, poured out, and so on, but I am full of love for my kids, like you, and that keeps me going, like you.
I’m glad I was given the platform in the form of tv to encourage moms and women alike to just keep going and do your best, always always always! Hang in there, Nikki! You’re doing the best job in the world and you only get one chance to form those little lives into wonderful happy productive people! ;)

I agree with the vast majority of the posters today about the mom-blogging. This stay at home mom is lonely; many of us were. But we talked on the phone or in person to our own mothers, sisters, neighbors, etc. We read newspapers, volunteered at our kids schools, went to the library, and acknowledged that we were in desparate need of other adults. If mom-blogger and Kate are so lonely, they need to take their own personal steps to build adult relationships with people, instead of grabbing for attention and validation online from strangers.

The reason they use their kids for this attention is that the kids are all they have. Their own brains have gone to mush (didnt dear Erma Bombeck write about absent mindedly cutting another adult's food?). It happens when you have no options, no resources to get out of the house and form healthy relationships with other adults. Kate does not have this particular excuse, she has her own car(s) and her children are in school full time, she could be in school, working, doing volunteer work, etc. As Kate said to Jon years ago "This is the perfect time for it."

Kate is just lazy, mentally ill and kind of low IQ - that is her excuse. I dont know anything about mom-blogger or what her internal dysfunction is.

Angie said... 63

Erma Bombeck, now there was a woman who could make us laugh, make us cry and yet make us feel sympathy for the chores we had to do, the unwanted company we were related to and had to have over for the Holidays, the pre menopausal moments when we couldn't remember our names, let alone the names of the kids.

That woman talked about being a woman, a mother, an ill woman, a daughter, a wife, a sister, an aunt and we laughed and we cried. But no we never saw photos of her children, her husband, never.
Yet she was one of the most read mothers and biggest sellers of books. She was before these computers.

We could all relate in one column or another, it was great when she appeared on TV on the morning shows. What a wonderful woman who reminded us to enjoy each day, enjoy the good dishes, etc., and not to fight with our spouses or partners or children if we could work things out.

Kate Gosselin is trying to live a fantasy life. She did not have this web site or blog when she was on TV. She had no time for her fans. Now I do believe her web site is more about her "haters" than about her fans. She is trying to prove her little kids (I hate that term) are enjoying their lives and we all know that raising children has it's plus' and minus' as Erma reminded us in her books. We love mother hood and we relish the good times, the good days, the times when our pre teens still want a hug, play with dolls with their little sisters or cousins. Same with our sons who are so confused as to the mechanics of their bodies and now it must be more confusing as the boys have TV and "in your face sex" so, must be harder to raise boys. But Kate, you can not stop puberty and you will not. You told the world that the twins were wearing bras, how sad that you would do that. Anything for attention for you.

It's a flat out lie. Mommy blogging has NOTHING to do with being liberated and coming out from behind the curtain. Go to MOPS as silimom pointed out. There IS no such curtain.

================

I haven't read all the comments, but am going to throw in my opinion--that this so-called "mommy blogger" should not presume to speak for us who have BEEN THERE. I find the very term "mommy blogger" obnoxious.

To this mommy blogger:

Be a mom and stop talking about showing it off! Stop giving everyone opportunities to say how great you are and what a fabulous crusade you're on. Seriously. Being a mother isn't about YOU.

My "mom" credentials include leaving an upwardly-mobile job at the end of the 80's to stay home with my first daughter--not a popular thing to do at the time, particularly with a masters degree. Not to mention, we couldn't afford it, so I took a minimum wage weekend job to help pay the bills.

Good thing I wasn't looking for accolades or pulling back any "veil" because I didn't receive that. Instead, I was given grief and criticism for "wasting my degree"--from friends, family, co-workers, and my former boss. I didn't care. Our house was small. Family members looked down on that, especially when my husband also took evening work. Again, we let it roll off us. The kids and we were happy. (I wrote a while back that "Baby Boom" inspired me!)

When I started homeschooling a few years later, I was also in the minority and criticized. My thoughts were only for my four kids. I wasn't looking for praising or needing to show off my accomplishments. These decisions were not FOR ME. They were for my children. Money remained tight for many years. None of us--my husband, kids, or I--cared. We understood that my job was just to nurture and educate them. Best job I ever had, by the way.

Today my children are older teens and young adults, all successful, well-educated, and well-mannered; good people I enjoy spending time with (as I always did.) NOW people praise me. Go figure. And guess what? I still don't care what they say.

(P.S. -- Fifteen years later, I resumed another career from home and did pretty darn well. I'm glad I left that pit that was my former employer!)

Hate to say more but Kate traveling to San Diego is a joke marathon for her to do. People who travel around the country to run these marathons are pro' kind of runners. They have been competing for years and years. Kate is a novice at running around her neighborhood, I believe.

She has tried everything to gain more attention and since she can't get it, she has attached herself to some runners from Hershey. Fine, but your kids want a vacation to the Beach?

You didn't allow your kids to go into the ocean or play on the beach except when you were with Jon that is when you and Jon would sit on the beach, feet in the sand, in the ocean pretending to swim but in the ocean.

All of a sudden with K+8 you were "not a beach, sand and ocean person and neither were the kids" and you layed around the pool in so many different bikini' that I wondered how you could afford them and the breast implants.

Now you are headed to the first class hotel, first class restaurants, Swag bag (absolutely) and you are a grabber, and the kids will be at home. Not that they are suffering but you constantly talk about how the 8 children you had all want a beach trip. Anything to get a free trip.

You can put those kids in the Big Black Bus and drive to Delaware, the beach there is beautiful, the Chesapeake Bay is wonderful and you could spend a day and a night there for very little, your twins could do the work, but at 8 yrs of age, your little kids can brush their teeth, put pjs on, then wash their faces and get dressed. Not far from Delaware is Ocean City, Md and there is the biggest beach, amusement park and if you don't dress the kids alike and you can find another adult friend to go with you, you could walk the boardwalk and the kids could go on a few rides, but you have carnivals come to your area all the time, are the kids ever allowed out? Or is it only you who gets the finer things in life now?

Storm 40 -- Ah, at last, the REAL reason those kids are at that private school. It's not because the classes are smaller or that it's academically advanced. It's because they are gone more hours in the year! Math isn't my strong point, but I think I have this right. PA public schools -- 180 days X 6 hrs. per day = 1080 class hours. The kids' school -- 170 days X 7 hours = 1190 class hours. Add in the 1.5 - 2.0 hours per day on the school bus = 510 - 680 hours, where if they attended a local public school travel time would be negligible, and the truth is apparent.

The one time where I can see justifying a mommy blog is when parents are dealing with a rare and or difficult medical problem, or something of that nature. It's an excellent way to get in touch with other people dealing with the same issues. There are ways to protect the child's privacy in those circumstances, but the loss of any privacy would have to be weighed against the advantages. Just knowinng that you aren't alone in those circumstances, and learning of better ways to deal, or newer forms of treatment, or the locations of special schools is of tremendous help to parents who are drowning.

One of the worst things I've seen KK do in public, and one that made me just sick, was that whipping of Leah. The pure rage on KKs face as she whaled away on that little girl was scary. The worst was that the poor little thing hadn't really done anything that bad. She was playing with a toy that her gestational carrier had provided for her, in an appropriate manner, and in an appropriate place. And just because said gestational carrier was too bloody lazy to move her bloomin' arse, or to stay off her skipty-leventhh pink iphone for 5 minutes, she paid the price. So she didn't stop blowing the whistle. Okay -- take it away from her and maybe put her in time out for a few minutes for disobedience. You don't blister her bottom! KK was just being self-serving, mean and vindictive. She wasn't parenting.

Reading the above tweet from her on how the kids are BEGGING for a beach getaway, makes it so clear that her greed knows no bounds. She is too self-involved to realize it would be much better to tweet that the kids will be enjoying their summer at home, and how that will include a few local activies in her hometown as well. But no, she comes across as so over-the-top with her selfishness and it seems inevitable that those children will grow-up the same way. Also, she never shows any respect towards her home state...is not good enough for her...it is simply beneath her.

===============

Nope. Travel time to local public schools is often just as long because of all the stops they make. I know one student who lives fairly close to a public school and he's on the bus 40 minutes every morning. The Gosselins' bus is direct travel without stopping at every bus stop along the way.

My mother-in-law, who is 88, talks vicariously through her dog. She will say things like, "See how tired Wally is, he wants to go to bed". Or, "Wally wants a longer walk than I am able to give him."

You can forgive an elderly woman for using her little doggie to send a message to us. But Kate uses her kids to pitch for a new show, for holidays, for anything that suits HER fancy. My guess is that 6 eight year olds are busy being children not begging for beach holidays. The twins are likely tired of being in "Kate's Nanny Training School" and would like to do stuff other than supervise their siblings all summer long.

One day soon, these children will say to their mother "STOP using us to get the things YOU want". The push-back is coming.

Kate said she usually stayed out of their quarrels, but now she's had to breakup 11 ( in one hour)

Re : Leah. I did not see footage of that, only those awful photos and I was horrified. I have never spanked my kids, not even once, as I believe it's done out of anger on the parent's part. About MommyBlogging...

I've been blogging since before it was actually called blogging. Back then, 15 years ago, it was just a webpage with my thoughts and perspective and I always used an alias.

For my most recent blog, and here, I use my real first name. But that is where I draw the line.

I never use my husband's or kids' real names. I even changed blogs when my MIL found out about one of my blogs and started commenting using everyone's first names and I had to start moderating her comments.

Any pics of my kids on my blog are used with their full permission and NEVER with their names.

My blogging is an outlet for ME, a way to express myself through my writing and photos without bringing my family into the front lines.

I am not trying to make a living, I am not vying for hits and I'm not trying to make a name for myself.

I think it's a weak argument to say that mommy bloggers are just trying to "lift the veil" on what it's like to be a mom by sharing stories about and posting pics of their kids.

There are plenty of ways to share the ups and downs of mommyhood within our families, amongst our friends and in our communities.

My blog is about me, my life and the things I do. Sometimes that includes my family but I never take for granted that they are okay with me sharing.

If I take a picture or write a blurb about my husband or kids, I always ask their permission first and I never use their names.

The thing about Kate is that she's just recently stated that she wants another reality show with her kids.

She wants to exploit her children for fame and money, seeing it as a viable career option.

No qualms there about sharing her children's photos and embarrassing moments and in turn making it all about HER.

Is anyone surprised she is using twitter to fill that desire?

KK needn't take her kids to the ocean to spend time on a beach. I'm sure there are lakes in her area that have beaches and lovely picnic areas or even cabins for a w/e stay. I have fond memories of summer vacays to our local lake. Mom, like KK, wasn't a "waterish" person, but she'd put on a bathing suit, sit in the sun, and watch my dad and me play in the water. She'd even screw up her courage and paddle around in the shallows occasionally. We'd rent a small cottage and spend the week cooking out, basking in the sun and sand, and cooking out. Mom and I would wind up looking every inch of our Native American heritage. We loved it.

This is OT, and I'm sorry I forgot to post it last week but -- to Dwindle -- Congrats to your niece on graduating from law school. Knowing the school she attended, I'm sure she'll pass the bar with flying colors. Congrats on your "legacy".

-------
Good find! I bet Kate and her bday attendees were some kinda teed off that a gossip site hijacked her bday pics...invitees are pissed cause they were 'used', and Kate's pissed because she wasn't 'paid'. Poor Kate!

I've been thinking about this whole mommy blogging thing..I am older than most here, kids are shooing out the door quicker than I like, so gives me some insight as to how fleeting time is.
I remember a time when gas was .99 cents a gallon, and a service attendant pumped your gas after asking you 'leaded or unleaded', and they washed your windshield and checked fluids under the hood.
I was of a time with no microwaves, vcr's, ipods, cable or satellite tv...we had 5 tv channels, and they went off the air at midnight. The first tv I had in my room was a 13inch black and white tv, and I thought that was something special! Cartoons were shown for a few hours on weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings, and if you wanted to watch It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, you better watch it, cuz it wouldn't be on again until next year.

If you went on a trip, you used a paper map, not a gps or mapquest. (and if you got lost, you couldn't whip out your cell phone, those hadn't been invented yet).

Nowadays, people in checkout lines get irritated if someone writes a ..(gasp!) paper check, as most whip out a debit or credit card. Any my kids? They never carry cash, they think that debit card is a ticket to everywhere!

In my earlier years, there were no 24 hour stores, and I remember the Blue Law, meaning you couldn't buy certain things on Sundays.

Today's technology has changed society; we are all about bigger, better, newer, faster...we used to do email, now that it is too SLOW..so now texting is the best way to communicate.

When I was growing up, no one had a computer, those were things NASA had. We didn't have the internet (oh, how did we manage?), there was no facebook, blogger, instagram, itunes, youtube or twitter.
I remember watching a show called Laverne and Shirley, but it was canceled because one of the stars was unmarried and pregnant...now, we have a show on tv where girls are vying to get on the show!

If you wanted to take a picture, you whipped out the polaroid for an 'instant' picture, if not, you had to take your film to the store, where it took at least a week for processing. Now we use our iphones, and upload them instantly for the whole world to see.

I remember reading Erma Bombeck, and was deeply saddened by her death, but looking back at it now, her writing about her family is somewhat akin to plastering pics and personal photos on the www...as we catch up to what technology is doing to our society, we must determine borders and filters.

"...you only get one chance to form those little lives into wonderful happy productive people.."

That's right, Kate, one chance. And you've been blowing it since before they were born.

I don't believe for one hot second the kids have begged to:

1. see crew members
2. go on a "beach getaway"
3. get another TV show
4. etc.

But if they have? Then she needs to step up to the plate and explain to them that the TV show is over. The free ride is over, the perks are over. She needs to explain to them that she's unwilling to spend the money THEY earned on THEM. She will only spend it on herself.

As for breaking up arguments and kids being bored not two hours into summer, I've got just a few words to say: she wanted a bunch of kids, she got a bunch of kids. YOU GET WHAT YOU GET AND YOU DON'T PITCH A FIT. (Which SHE did not make up, by the way, my daughter came home from preschool saying those words in 1998.)

The kids will breathe a sigh of relief when the not-a-nanny arrives and she gets her flat overbaked ass on a plane for San Diego.

But she's right about one thing: it IS going to be a long and I would add miserable summer in her house. She's probably desperately trying to think up ways to ditch the kids as I type.

Good luck, Kate, you witch.

Dina Lohan has a new reality show. I have not followed that link ro read anything about it.

I expect Kate to start tweeting Dina by the end of the week to start offering episode ideas.

I see the upcoming marathon has time limits like the last race Kate ran in. If they fall behind, they can get onto a shuttle bus and catch up. So, again no one will know Kate's time exactly. Bet she rides most of the way again.

Funny coincidence that the topic for this thread is Mommy Blogs. When I was a young mother, in the early 80s, there was a journalist named Anna Quindlen. She was an experienced journalist, who, when she began having children, wrote a syndicated column called "Life in the Thirties". She talked about the everyday experiences of motherhood and reflected the challenges of combining career with a family. Anna always had an interesting point of view that spoke to me--and many others. When she had her third child, she retired from the bi-weekly column to be home with her children. Over the years she has written several novels and won a Pulitzer Prize. But to those of us young mothers of the 80s who were trying to negotiate our feminist views and careers with the realities of babies and diapers, she will be lovingly remembered for her articles.

I am now listening to her latest book, a memoir, called Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake. Her experiences parallel so many of my experiences, and her insight on aging is enlightening, funny and hopeful.

I think people read Mommy Blogs as a validation of their own experiences. It eases the isolation that sometimes occurs when a woman transitions into motherhood, so,  I can understand the appeal of a well-written blog. While Anna talked about her family, her writing focused on her own experience. If she identified a child by name, I don't remember it. Her kids were certainly affected by their famous mom, as any child of a recognized figure would be. She is an enormously gifted writer who has given many the gift of her wisdom and insight.

It Anna's her self-doubt, imperfections and ordinariness, that made her so appealing. While I would have enjoyed any subject she chose to write about, I am happy that she turned the focus on her own day-to-day life.  I'm sure that many of my generation would not relate directly to her writing, but, she spoke to my personal experience. It is laughable to even consider Kate's scribbles or Big Dreams exploitations in the same category.

In the case of Kate, who does she connect with? How does Kate validate anyone's experience? She lives in a bubble, reeks of greed and has a rotten personality --she is not likable or relatable, even to other HOM moms. Her writing has zero journalistic value. She lacks curiosity and doesn't seem to be able to learn new skills, so what does she bring to the table? Her writing is like reading a very boring journal.

I only glanced at Big Dreams blog, but saw enough to know that there is child exploitation--that's all I need to know. Children need boundaries and privacy. Period.

Here is an example of one of Anna Quindlen's earlier columns:

http://www.nytimes.com/1987/04/08/garden/life-in-the-30-s.html

Here is an example of a later column:

@IHEARTB2K @belle379 @Kateplusmy8 The twins will be 12 this year. I'm expecting Kate to put up huge custody fight.

=======

In PA, there is no age requirement. Judges will hear requests from children under the age of 12. Of course, they have to provide reasons for wanting to live with the other parent. If the girls want to live with Jon, they don't have to wait until they are twelve to make that request.

"In Pennsylvania, there is no age at which a child may choose with which parent to live. A child's preference is admissible in custody proceedings but the judge must decide how much weight to give to a child's preference. A child's preference based upon sound, mature reasons for selecting one parent over another is likely to be given greater weight than the preference of a child based upon momentary whim or impulse. The Pennsylvania Superior Court stated, "The weight to be accorded a child’s preference varies with the age, maturity and intelligence of that child, together with the reasons given for the preference. Moreover, as children grow older, more weight must be given to the preference of the child." Wheeler v. Mazur, 793 A.2d 929 (Pa. Super. 2002)."

I see Kate is already spending money, re-landscaping, the place. It was really hard work, moving landscaping hoses around. So the landscaper can re-do the landscaping, cause Kate was bored with it. Gee, all of us should be so jealous of kate(snark), she gets to re-do her landscaping, and us poor/mediocre/normal/not famous/not rich people will have to just be satisfied with what we have. And she cries poor still.

Was there not an article recently that Kates income droped from millions a year to $220,000 a year. I don't know about you guys, but I could live very comfy on that amount. For Kate to live comfy on that amount: the school would have to go, the trips to NYC would have to go, buying expensive clothes & shoes would have to go. Kate is full of shit, that she has no money.

Hello everyone, I have missed so much on here! The twins are awesome, so tiny and cute, anytime they fuss-which is not often-all they need is for their granny to hold them over her heart, and they calm right down quick.5 kids, age 5 and under, is tons of work, but also so much fun! kate is missing out on so much love, it is going to come back to bite her in the azz some day, she is too stupid to realize what she has. OT-sorry Admin.-my life has been very busy, just came home for a couple of days, going back again for a couple of weeks. Having lots of fun doing projects with the 3 oldest grandkids, thankful I get to nap with them every afternoon. I bought some fabric, cut it into 2'x3' pieces, put lots of colors of paint into dishes, every kids got to make handprints on their fabrics, even threw in some sparkles, place was a big mess-kate would have had a fit!-but easy to clean up, so am mounting them with dowels, they will each have their own wall-hanging, so much fun! Also brought my chocolate moulds with me, and we made all colors of bath fizzies, tons of them. Also a big mess, but everything gets cleaned and back to normal again. We have baked cookies, buns, pizzas, frozen treats, fruit and veggie dips, always something to do. And lots of cuddling the twins. Why can't kate do things like this with her kids? There are picnics, treasure walks, story times, water gun fights, sand castle building, there is no time to be bored, having the time of my life being a granny! kate just sucks, glad I'm not her.

I have no idea how much money Kate has or makes. But someone mentioned how they could "easily" live on 220k a year? If you have a large home and its related expenses, are a single mom who needs help and has eight kids, that money doesn't go very far. I'm not saying it's living in poverty, but it's a far cry from living comfortably.

As much as I dislike Kate I can see how she must fret about money with so little (just Coupon Cabin?) income coming in and so much going out. It's not as if she can count on Jon to add much to the coffers.

Her begging for the beach trip is repulsive. Every time I try to understand her in a positive light she reminds me why I'm a hater.

Erma Bombeck could use words to describe people, she didn't need photos. You can put a copyright symbol on any of your photos, you have one on your computer if you have Microsoft Word on your computer.

I wanted to write to ask her (since she reads her haters, which is what we are called by the lazy witch) why do you advertise when you are going to be away from that house? Why? Why is it public knowledge that you will not be home, your schedule? I don't understand you. Are you inviting trouble? I think you are.

BTW, don't the little kids and the twins have Aunts and Uncles and cousins to go visit? Can't you let 1 or 2 go to a different aunt/uncle and split up the others also. Do they always have to travel as a pack of what you describe as undisciplined, uncontrollable, bored, pains in your butt? Are you still swatting them with that wooden dowel you have? You know the places to do the swatting where no bruises occur.

No, I don't believe your kids could get bored on the first day. All have lots of land to roam, even little electric cars to ride, 20 chickens and a house to clean where they live. Your kids don't get up and have chores? Who are you kidding? Not me. I will bet that Mady cleans those bathrooms everyday, not like Kate runs around cleaning the toilets, can you imagine? No, I can't.

What's for dinner tonight? Speghetti O's....open the can, add more Ragu (called doctoring the food) and calling it a recipe, take out one of those loaf of breads you bake, frozen broccoli into the microwave and presto Dinner for 8, as you eat lettuce.

Did you plant a veggie garden this year like Mrs. Obama suggested? Did you offer a bit of land for gardening to help the local pantry for the unemployed have fresh veggies? Do you have an herb garden?

Do your kids weed the grounds? Oh that's right, rich kids, you have a landscaper right? I saw all the newly laid mulch in the Easter photos.

What an amazing mother you are, publishing everyplace you will be and where those kids will be.

Hope you find another Jaime or Ashley for the sake of the kids. Wish one of them would write a book, lol lol lol

I agree...If that article is true, she's probably living off the interest from her invested money. $220,000 per year is not enough to sustain the private school tuition, which probably rises as the student enters middle school and high school. It's probably enough to keep the house, though; however, the maintenance expenses (which she has tweeted about) are going to eat her alive.

All I can say is that she had better have invested in the kids' college funds. RIGHT NOW at mediocre public research universities, the in-state tuition/living expenses is $20,000 per year or more. If those kids are saddled with college debt, it will be a crying shame...

The "who the heck really cares about what a bunch of 8 or 11 year olds do on a daily basis?" question isn't all that straight forward. Tabloids, papparazzi photo sites, and publications worldwide sell in large part because people ARE intensely interested in children whom they don't know. At least some publications fuzz out the kid's faces, but most don't.

Admin 21 said - I'm saying, there are appropriate ways to see to share your life's problems and ups and downs--with family of course, friends, a pastor or rabi, church group, teachers, husband, children.

-----------------

Thanks Admin- Well put. And this "sharing mom" has somehow managed to make millions of dollars from her "sharing" her kids' lives over the the years, so her intent is not so pure. To be honest, this woman shares NOTHING without an incentive- all about the money and presenting herself as something that she is not. The kids are an afterthought to her fame.

Sorry, but I don't think using your kids, or anyone else for that matter is "sharing," when you are making money off of them for your own gratitude. Kate doesn't have a "sharing" bone in her body unless it comes down to her self-gratification and making money.

Sharing in my mind means offering something to someone to better someone else's life. Kate has clearly exemplified time and time again, that she has no desire to do this for anyone, let alone her own kids.

Sincerely,
Nikki B.

I'm not quite caught up on the latest developments. IS coupon cabin her only paid job these days? I can't imagine that dinky site paying very much.

Regarding taking the kids to San Diego for a beach trip? Unless you're super-rich that town is horrible. It was nice years ago, but now all but the finest areas are crime ridden, full of illegals and the water is basically sewage from our neighbor from the south. You couldn't pay me to live their and it's not the vacation spot it once was. I know someone who retired there, and she's miserable. Her pita grown daughter (a fifty year old, and HER child) is probably going to move in with her, so her disgust may be more with the daughter than San Diego, but she is not happy living there.

The Carolina beaches (many of them) are still nice and not too far for Kate to take the kids by car.

I think the Gosselin kids have had enough work/ vacations that they'll be just fine at home for the summer.

Jumping In said... 112

Did the parents of the kids sign waivers prior to sending them off to the sextuplet's birthday party? Or, are they fine with their children's pictures being on Hollywood Life and HollyBaby?

The indoor part of their party seemed segregated, with the girls having a tea party set up by Cara and Mady, and the boys fending for themselves it seems. The birthday greeting on the white board was for the girls only, and the boys, who knows? I suppose at that age, they are happier apart with their own friends. I am just happy to see they HAVE friends!

I agree, Kate is going to have a very long summer, prepare for some heavy-duty grifting!

Those kids are begging for a beach vacation? Really? Because the ones they've been on thus far look anything but fun. Wait 2 hours for mom to do hair and makeup and spraytan only to run to and from the water in a race that she wins. Yay! Great fun!
--------------
I agree. Never understood why everyone thinks that the kids were so spoiled by these trips. They were working for gosh sakes. And for the under 7s luxury doesn't mean what it does to adults. For the kids those holidays weren't all that great anyway. Between working they were left in hotel rooms, vans, buses, cars etc, often with a staff member or even alone. Travel is grueling for kids, especially with someone like Khate around to take all the fun out of everything. Then on top of that there was the constant presence of a camera crew and production assistants who needed to get the shot and make sure filming went on no matter what. Dangerous heat wave? Film! Children sick? Film! Activity no one wants to do? Film a few times because the rebellious kids weren't hitting their mark or the weather changed.

Yes, yes and yes. As soon as I read it I knew she wrote it. Aside from the numerous excamation points, this reads exactly like her letter of grift she used to send churches before Julie Carson May took over the "Grifting for God Tour!!!!!!!!!!." For your comparison:

WE ARE NOW BOOKING INTO MID 2009. DATES ARE GOING FAST AND ARE VERY LIMITED!!!!!!
Logistics info: First, Jon and I always travel together for safety reasons.
Second, we don't bring our children anymore due to safety/security issues.
And third, we speak to an audience of 100 or more!
We typically ask that the church/organization cover our travel and accommodations (airfare, hotel, car transport to/from the airport on this end and rental car on that end). As far as a 'speaking fee' goes, we ask for a 'love offering' for church services (which averages around $3000-3500 just to give you an idea, but is by no means a set 'fee'-- we let that up to God to fulfill our needs whether that amount be higher or lower!).
Other groups (evening church sponsored events, non church affiliated programs etc) are charged a fee of $3500 for events scheduled in 2009.
For a Mops (Mothers of Preschoolers) group, we charge by the person.... a $ 15 fee per person with a minimum of 100 people. Additionally, we ask that we also be scheduled to speak at a church service while we are there.
As mentioned above, if you are scheduling a Saturday night event the fee is $3500. If you also want to schedule Sunday morning church services, we ask for a love offering in whatever amount is collected to cover Sunday. We want to let God provide for us want to be able to continue to travel and speak!
These fees are incorporated to cover our time, babysitting and time away from work!
In the past, churches, MOPS groups, organizations have charged admission or provided free tickets and covered our 'fee' in other ways.
It is up to you how it should be handled in your situation.
We typically use our presentation entitled 'Six (in honor of our 6) Lessons We Have Learned' where we start with a video montage set to
music of our family and then do our presentation. We tell our story from the beginning while we weave our points into it- including the pertinent Bible verses that came alive to us during those times and continue to be our guide today (you can request an email copy of our outline for review)! We usually end with about a half hour of questions from the audience which brings our total presentation time to about 1 1/2 hours in length. Ours is a story that is encouraging to everyone who hears it!
It is a story of God's hope, grace and love in a time when there was a lot of uncertainty, fear and doubt! Anyone who listens can apply these same lessons in their own lives!
The only other thing we require is a $150 deposit to hold the date you have chosen!
Additionally, please note that we are appearing as Jon and Kate Gosselin and this is aside from our show. TLC owns the rights to our show, we don't and so any advertising about our appearance may say 'from TLC's hit show 'Jon & Kate plus 8' but it may not use any logo or TLC owned print. Also, we cannot do ANY media interviews/ appearances related to our speaking event in order to remain in accordance with our TLC contract.
I hope this information helps! We enjoy speaking but are still surprised at the demand! We know it is what God is asking of us!!!!
Please reserve your date quickly! We are booking daily now and the dates are going fast! And please plan on having more people inquire about coming than you planned! Most events are now sold out due to lack of enough seating before the inquiries stop coming!!!! It is amazing--not what we ever had planned for our lives but we enjoy what we do!
Because of God's grace!
Kate Gosselin for all ten of us

Great memories, aggiemom! I still can see my mom at the gas station. She'd stick her hand out the window, waving a bill. An attendant would walk up and take it as she said, "A dollar's worth of regular, please."

A friend told me recently that Future Shock (1970) is a good book. This friend said that the brain is meant to adapt to change, but that too rapid of change causes stress--the brain biologically struggles to keep pace. Don't know how true that is, but I found it intriguing. Hmm, maybe I'll go download it on my Kindle. Future Shock, indeed!

And on another note, what a shame for Kate. Last summer at this time, the kids were earning their own keep. Now, here they are, eating her food, having arguments (arguments, I say!), and what do they bring home to help put food on the table? Nothing! What a waste of earning potential. Right, Kate?

A very timely article on CNN today regarding chidrens' privacy and youth being runed by parents posting everything on the internet.

The article pretty much paralels Kate's obsession with listing the kids daily actions and thoughts on Twitter and also the prior filming for the TV show. Some kids may not mind the information being on the internet, but others may be more reserved people and not want video of their potty training or vomiting available for everyone to see once they get older.

Things that are posted to Facebook, Twitter, etc. will be available forever and could prove to be embarassing to the kids later in life.

Kate can live on $220,000 a year. If she down-sizes. I knew & know people who have 4-10 children and live on one income, $40,000-$80,000 a year, live in a 3-4 bedroom home, own 2 cars, go on normal vacations, do local things and either their kids go to Catholic school, Lutheran school or public school. They manage. Kate does not want to give up her lifestyle, or house, & everything in it(yeah, you know the stuff she did not earn). Everything Kate has she did not earn it. Even the kids, she had to get help in making them. Supporting them, and Kate does not appreciate any of it, she never will, she will always want more.

From the pics of the inside of her house, Kate is somewhat a perfectionist. The house has to be just so, cleaned just so(we saw how anal Kate was about cleaning, a real mommies dearist)everything has a place, and in it's place. Why do you not think the kids, openned the gifts on the rug, or eat popcorn on the rug with the line on it, the kids remove shoes, the dog is hardly in the house(but the poor thing gets groomed all the time). I wonder if Kate freaked out , when who ever that guy making pizza, and doing it on her bare counter top, making a mess. It probably was PB, he is probably the only person who could get away with that.

I also think kate is off to SD. After all she has to get use to the weather and settle in etc. Another excuse, to get away from the kids.

Maggie-that tweet from Brooke Burke was made on April 16, 2010, while Kate was still on the show. Kate wasn't eliminated until the following Tuesday, April 20.

Brooke is the hostess of the show-of course, she has to say everyone loves everyone. That is part of her job. Everyone on the show always praises each other, it's good PR.

Gift of grab said... 134

Maggie, if you look at the tweet, the date is April 16, 2010. Which was about 3 three weeks into Kate's DWTS stint. I don't know what the IW people hope to prove with that post, but a tweet from over two years ago (and several weeks BEFORE she was eliminated) does not, in my view, mean diddly-squat for her chances of being asked back.

As for the Zondervan link, looks to me like some cheap cross-promotion b/t Zondervan and CC. You can still buy Kate's already-published "works" direct from Zondervan (if you're not smart enough to pay 55% off list on amazon or 95% off list at the dollar store), so I'm don't think there's any real significance to this.

Twit (#133), you're right, it was only a few days before her elimination (not several weeks). Sorry for the error. And you're also right that you never hear Brooke say anything negative--to anyone about anyone. She's very clear on how HER job works, unlike Kate.

Well, not really. More like ON the bed and on the EDGE of the bed at that. She's obviously told them they have to keep their dirty rotten filthy feet OFF the bed. Meanwhile the girls can crawl right in. We all get it get Kite. Girls "rewl". Boys suck. I'm sure they've got the message by now too.

You can still buy Kate's already-published "works" direct from Zondervan (if you're not smart enough to pay 55% off list on amazon or 95% off list at the dollar store), so I'm don't think there's any real significance to this.

I heard they were donated to recycling plants in Europe and being turned into something useful like toilet paper. I could be wrong, butt....

Brooke is the hostess of the show-of course, she has to say everyone loves everyone. That is part of her job. Everyone on the show always praises each other, it's good PR.

Except for Carrie Ann, who said that she's never seen anyone like Kate who has no self-awareness. I'm not sure what it is, but it not singing praises.

Did anyone see the tweet from Brook Burke stating that the rumor that Kate was not liked at DWTS was false. She tweeted, "We love her at DWTS".

What is interesting is there is a photo of the tweet on April 16 (refer to article) BUT when you go to check out Brooke's tweets there is no such tweet. She must have deleted it.
--------------------------
Apparently Kate isn't the only one who creates her own reality to suit her own purposes and support her BS. Notice that twitter was from "Brooke Burke-Charvez". The date on it was April 16, 2010. She (Brooke) didn't even get married until sometime around August 2011.
This appears to be a screen shot of the supposed tweet after it was fabricated with a little cut and paste. I'm no twitter expert, but my guess would be this was never a real tweet. If my foot could reach my a$$ i'd kick it for even caring about it but I am just so tired of the lies and manipulation from both Kate and her followers.

Lifting the tups dress to 'spank' her is for a better 'hurt' factor and also for a more embarrassing factor.

Saying her kids are begging to go on trips and missing the crew and equating that to they want to film is ridiculously ridiculous. They just want the trips they have become used to with the sense of entitlement she created in them. HER kids have become as used to being given all the advantages for nothing as she is. As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Judging from MTV Teen Moms earning $20,000 to $65,000 a year (not per episode) I think Jon and Kate were underpaid and never made anything close to the public rumours. Kate's net worth was estimated at $5 million is 2011 and this has only to do with her star power and earnings potential, not real income. That it dropped to $200,000 in 2012 is reflective of the public's interest in her. She knows it is bad, nobody is taking her calls, she doesn't have the talent to keep any of the doors opened that TLC opened for her, especially not in writing/selling books. This gig with Coupon Cabin is probably comped stuff, like they pay for her media appearances, give her gift cards.. all about keeping the appearance she has a job. The longer she doesn't have a job the faster she disappears from the spotlight. I think this time next year she'll be working at a nursing job and trying to pitch an inspirational book of how fame/fortune means nothing to her, LOL

I thought all she did was complain about it being the last day of school and that the kids were bugging her? I don't know if she truly understands the word "memory"...

Although she was silent for a while. Maybe she went off for hair, makeup and wine!

When you have millions, you get a good money manager and live off the interest. That is probably what is going on with Kate. She is not down to her last couple of hundred thousand. Now having said that, the money will not last forever. She will never draw that kind of income again.

Being a millionaire explains to me why Steve continues to hang around. He is a dirtbag egging her on, taking advantage of her obvious infatuation with him, and exposing his family to public scrutiny. I've been around for 58 years, seen plenty with relationships, and there is no way theirs is normal nor innocent. His wife, if they are still together, is a fool or tolerates his behavior because she knows he will never leave her for Kate, who is bat sh** crazy. Whether they are lovers or not, I have no idea, but there is very strong emotional attachment on Kate's part.

She didn't tweet for 6 hrs, her good night tweet was probably done from a 5 star hotel room while sipping wine.
I bet she is extremely generous with custody time with Jon this summer, cuz ya know, she does what is 'best for the kids'.

Dmasy said... 150

There are probably pre-race activities that begin this evening. Excitement will build to the race on Sunday. She has to travel today, if not last night. Monday could be a recovery day in San Diego.

We don't know if Steve will be with her. I hope we get a report from someone who attends.

Running locally would be so much easier and less expensive.

Dmasy said... 151

IF she is somehow being compensated to lend her "famous" name and face to this race, she is doing nothing to promote the Rock N Roll name or charities.

She is, again, being coy about her travels and running.

Her followers will get bits and pieces of race info -- probably after the fact.

I don't believe she is making any money from this get-away.

TLC stinks said... 152

CC is not a sponsor so I can't imagine she is being compensated for the race. The sole reason is for EXPOSURE. The only thing I've seen mentioned about her participating is on IW. For certain Steve will be there taking snapshots and selling them to the tabloids. San Diego is gorgeous and she is using this as an excuse for a vacay with Steve. I did not read about any pre-events before the race, but she and Steve are probably already there. I hope there are some eagle-eye bloggers who spot those two by the pool or dining out. They do make a striking couple, easy to spot.

Gift of grab said... 154

Dmasy, I agree entirely. If she's being "sponsored" by anyone, she's playing it very close to the vest. And isn't that the polar opposite of what a paid sponsorship is supposed to accomplish? If she were a "celebrity" draw at RnRSD, why wouldn't they feature (or even just mention) her on their web pages? How does having a "secret" celebrity in attendance do anything for them?

It looks like the race is using a different time tracking device this time (think wrist band in hospital). They're using a D Tag and you can watch a video on how it works at the R&R site. The tag will have the runner's bib number (and possibly) name printed on it and in order for it to work it has to be number side up on your shoe. Not that we'll know if she switches tags as was speculated with her other run, but it doesn't look like you'll be able to switch tags once it's been attached to the shoe.

LB said... 159

I posted this on the previous thread but realized alot of people are now discussing on this one so I thought I would bring it over to here. I'm posting this because what I saw on the youtube video was just a conflict with how Kate is always presenting herself in the written and spoken forms and the sickly sweet surpy personality she pretneds on twitter (I love my kids! They are the best kids! ME ME ME ME!

Someone posted a youtube video of Kate spanking Leah on Kate's twitter feed and I noticed something I missed when the pictures were in the tabs. Kate is actually holding the bottom edge of Leah's dress up while spanking her. That is so mean and hurtful to do that to a small child!!!!! WHY HOLD UP HER DRESS--WAS THAT TO GET A BETTER AIM TO HURT HER? that makes me so so so mad!! She sure is a momster!

By the way, she couldn't have bothered to put the effort to watermark the b-day pictures she posted on her 'blog' so they couldn't be lifted and posted somewhere else. Just...so...dumb.

TLC stinks said... 160

She's probably at the graduation. There will be pictures for sure.

Oooops, forgot to mention in my last post, R&R is having a marathon in Philly on 9/16. Maybe this is the one that she's making the kids train for. She did say that they'd be running one with her.

TLC stinks said... 162

Next year will be a big change for the twins. They were big fish in a little pond this year. Could get ugly with older kids next year.

TLC stinks said... 163

There also is a kids' run in San Diego.

Jumping in said... 164

This is typical, the pattern of her behavior is so predictable. She attends an event (any event) with no consistent promotion beforehand, then AFTER the fact the pictures and false gratitude spew forth. Once home, the only thing we ever hear about again is the running, as it is about her and not a particular cause she pretends to support.

Once Kate sees running marathons is not the most practical way to get the necessary attention to get back on television, it will fade away. My prediction is an nagging injury (real or not) will soon end her attempt at another full marathon. She knows too many people questioned her result in Las Vegas and closer scrutiny will come if/when she does the next one. I see her running days relegated to the driveway at her house and local roads to keep her weight in check, and that's it.

Running a half-marathon after completing a full is an obvious step backwards. This trip is more likely about popping up in LA to see if she can rustle up some interest.

TLC stinks said... 165

The 5th grade graduation was 9 - 10 a.m. (Looked it up). So either she was tweeting during the ceremony (note the tweet one hour ago) or she's not there.

Westcoaster said... 166

I sense she's there at graduation, but probably tweeting through it. Still time for her and Mr. Skeve to get to San Diego for some R&R before the race, and plenty of time afterwards. It's a little foggy on the CA coast today, could be a cooler weekend than minidress mom was planning.

Once a Viewer said... 167

She doesn't usually post school photos, but isn't this an occasion for one of her little 'parties' at the kitchen table? No time I guess... Good luck to C and M next year- I agree, Stinks, older kids are not as 'nice.'
Girls their age too getter cliquey and exclusive- they'll either be in or out- or one twin on either side...hate middle school mentality.

Re: the old speaking tour with Jon. How many references to money?? Not as many to the kids themselves, and a lot of Bible stuff thrown in. I wonder if Jon at least feels guilt- he was suckered in, and enjoyed the fame and fortune for a while- hope he's past it- but those kids sure earned their parents a lot of do-re-mi.

Nit Picky said... 168

Kate tweeted once during the time of the graduation ceremony, she did not tweet throughout.

As far as wondering if Jon every feels guilty--he tweeted not to long ago that he feels guilt every day for what went on in the past w/regard to kids/filming, etc.

ddrbutchiewong said... 169

Spare me the spectacle of miniature Gosselings running a marathon with adults. Can you just see a divorced mother of eight attempting to corral and control her pack? Disruptive to other competitors. There should be an age minimum for marathons and sponsors of such should show some consideration to those runners who take the sport seriously.

TLC stinks said... 170

No, she won't do a school photo but I can see the twins posing with their certificates. It's just too good an opportunity to pass up for her. M will do that little head tilt thing she does now for pictures.

Yep, middle school kids are mean. If Kate keeps insisting on blogging, posting pictures, and walking around like a hooker, stand by for some nasty remarks from classmates and the older kids. This is where "reality" will exist for Kate. And just because it's a ritzy private school will make no difference.

I saw how someone said that the non-fans request that Kate post pics to prove she had a party or made Easter baskets, etc. Maybe so, however, Kate can post pics of the baskets and the cake (she supposedly made) and table settings, etc without posting pictures of her children (or other people's children) online.

There would be nothing wrong with Kate posting pics of the party decorations, etc. It would be a way for her to showcase, or brag, about everything without exploiting her kids. Kate knows the kids are her ticket to continued fame.

Does anyone else get the feeling that Kate takes all those pics exclusively with her blog in mind? I just don't get the feeling she is taking the pictures just for the sake of "memories."

Anyhow, I noticed the Mady head-tilt too- like at the tea party! Cara doesn't seem as into photos as M- I hope their middle school days are ok- I recall the girls saying some kids were mean but not their 'real' friends. Sometimes, and it happened to my kids, real friends 'change' into not-so-nice ones. Old friends side with the popular crowd or the mean ones so they won't be teased themselves. Kate always said the twins were best friends themselves, so I hope they can stick together, although the two seem VERY different, idk.

aggiemom09121416 said... 179

Well, her Wed night twitter silence could still be due to the kids being gone. I bet he picked them up yesterday afternoon, when she went silent. I thought she had already flown the coop, guess I missed that one.
But, I bet Jon had the kids and she was packing for her May vacation.
I could be wrong, but when does she manic tweet when the kids ARE home? NEVER.
I still think no kids=twitter silence, that's just how Kate rolls.

Another topic...some have speculated that Kate treats the twins more like friends, and that appears to be the case. She could be doing it in part to keep custody of them, they are at an age where they could be very vocal about living with their dad, so if Kate can keep them buttered up, she gets to keep them, and they help with the little kids. It's a win/win for her.

I also agree about the party pictures. Show pictures of "things" and leave the kids out of it, especially when some of them are not your own. Laurie, that's the same tracking device Rock-n-Roll has always used. It's very common and I think they use it because it's disposable and you don't have to return it. (Hence, they don't have to track who didn't give theirs back and charge them for it.) Kate didn't switch tags last year, the only way to get that thing off your shoe is to cut it off or unlace the shoe. Her time was so abysmal that I think she really ran (and walked) the whole thing.

PJ's momma said... 185

Also, the kid event at these Rock-n-Roll events are only 1 mile. Kids accumulate miles on their own (either 25 or 12) and then run the final mile at a small event at the event. They're not running a full or half or even a 5k, just one mile.

That would defeat the whole purpose of this trip. I agree with the poster up thread that said Kate is obligated to do this run. Whether it has to do with the rumored lease of the BBB, or something else. She has been talking about this SD marathon for a while now. I think R&R figured Kate out after the LV marathon, but we're stuck in a "contract" with her. I think Kate finally figured out that she is not going to make money running, because.........she is a fraud, and too lazy to put the effort in. This trip is purely a vacation away from her kids. Lucky kids in my opinion. The more time she spends away from them, the less "Mommy meltdowns" they will have to deal with.

It's all very variable. Where I grew up, we went K-8 and then graduated. My kids grew up elsewhere and went K-5 in one school, 6-8 in a different school and then high school. There was a ceremony after each level.

No, it would not surprise me she takes the twins to SD. She loves that area. Remember, the whole family spent a week there prior to flying to Hawaii because they had to "get adjusted to the time change". Yeahhh, rrright.

So perhaps the twins are doing that kid run which is on Saturday at 8 a.m. It means that they would have to be flying out there tonight most likely. Anything for dear ol' mommy to stay relevant.

JudyK, it depends on the school. Around here (I don't live near the hag), elementary school is K-5, middle school is 6-7-8 and high school is 9-12.

I have noticed she doesn't talk about running NEARLY as much as she used to. Huh.

Also the run in SD has a charity attached. Leukemia and lymphoma. Why hasn't she even mentioned it?

Oh who am I kidding? She went to a damn charity dinner for the Red Cross and didn't mention it until she was FORCED to.

The woman doesn't have a charitable bone in her body.
