Midnight madness: unfortunately, what colleges tell you and what is really out there are 2 different things. I see the colleges advertize, oh look you can earn blab, blah money with a degree, that should be condemed for false advertizing. Getting kids/people all worked up, that if they get a BA, MBA, DR you will make lots of money. Good luck with that! It's what they don't tell you, that: 1. you need work experience, 2. computer skills, 3. you start at bottom, not the top. $55,000 in your choosen field, try if you are lucky $24,000, and you start at the bottom. Very few get the $55,000 to start. 4. you need to know someone, 5, be real good in your field of studies. A degree does not guarantee you will even get in your field or a job in that field or even a job. That is reality. I think that all colleges and univerities are over priced and over rated. Even some of those professors, who make big bucks, don't even teach half their own classes, that students pay a lot of money for. Teaching asst. teach most of their classes. This to me is an outrage. When I was in UICC, half of my classes were taught by TA, you only saw the professor, at the first class and the mid-term and the final. So who am I paying for? All of you parents/students and people should be out-rages by this, and the money spent for what? To me, I have always thought of college/univerity as jumped up high school. That costs money.
Maybe that hostile response by Kate is a reflection of the conversation she has with the prospective PR firm yesterday. Maybe they were bringing up past stories, tweets and bad behavior by Kate and she spent the entire phone call telling them what lies they all were. Oh... Then that would mean Kate was calling the PR people morons.... Yep, if they didn't tell her what she wants to hear, then they are morons.
What Kate forgets is that people don't have to make up lies and stories about her. She gives everyone enough material through her own actions and twitter feed to know who the moron really is. It is you Kate!
Re: College education. Two young male members of my family worked part time as "computer geeks" while in high school.
When they graduated high school they were hired as full time "computer geeks" and both then skipped college and are well on their way to becoming millionaires.
Sometimes it's who you know and if you can get your foot in the door.
Of course, this is not the norm and can't happen to everybody.
You sound very bitter about college and I'm sorry for that. _____
Not at all, you are misinterpreting me. I am thankful for my education and also that the only debt I incurred was from my master's. My parents and I split the cost of my BA, my grad certificate was paid for by an employer that offered tuition assistance. So debt for myself is not a huge issue.
I think the point I am making is that the work environment is changing in the U.S. Work hard, do a good job, get a degree and everything will be fine does not cut it anymore. So to invest thousands of dollars WITHOUT DUE DILIGENCE is foolhardy.
My sister loves people and got a degree in social work. What is the lifelong monetary value of that? Unfortunately not much, I'm afraid. She would never be able to support herself on the salary that it commands. That's what I am talking about. If you want to get a degree in fine arts, archeology, even English, go ahead. But UNDERSTAND the ramifications of your financial future years down the line.
Attending college and getting a degree is not a cure-all for gainful employment--job or career, however you want to view it (to me, career is just a fancy way of saying 'job' as NO ONE is guaranteed a career in this economy). I know more than 20 people who have been laid off in the last few years. I was laid off in 1999, and it took years to recover from that. My master's degree hurt me in such a way that I ended up leaving it off my resume at the suggestion of a career counselor because it made me OVERqualified in a market where employers were looking for cheap staff.
Again, my point is: DUE YOUR HOMEWORK REGARDING BENEFITS AND RISKS OF SHELLING OUT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR EDUCATION.
Unless you are independently wealthy, and then by all means go for it.
BECAUSE IT HAS BECOME CRYSTAL CLEAR RECENTLY THAT THE PEOPLE KEEPING KATE GOSSELIN IN THE NEWS ARE NOT HER 10 (AT MOST) FANS, BUT HER HATERS, WE HERE AT THE GRAPEVINE CHOOSE TO NO LONGER GIVE KATE ANY FURTHER NARCISSISTIC SUPPLY....Preesi
I’m all for this. I was an advocate for ignoring Kate for a very long time, a very unpopular stance, then fell into the morass of reading, getting frustrated and commenting. It’s turned into a habit with me, reading tweets and blogs with my morning coffee. Haven’t been successful in changing the habit, but keep trying. I’m hoping one less blog to read will help since my willpower is lacking. That and Kate’s tweet:
Kate Gosselin @Kateplusmy8 GN my fans, supporters and even those of u who insist u don't like me but continue2hang on my every word&deed..ur all true fans, thanks!XO

kateplusmy8 @2thank @xxxxx'....and for every made up lie abt someone, there's a stupid moron to believe and spread it...'(sorry had2add my 2cents) ---------
So what does that statement say about Kate since she lies basically all the time.
In my senior year of college, I had a professor stop his regular lesson, to lecture the class by telling us that just because we were getting ready to graduate from a well-known University, we should not feel that our degrees would get us the jobs we dreamed of getting or even guarantee a job. He told us that our college degrees would only show prospective employers that we were "trainable": the rest was up to us. We were to use our innate or God-given talents and abilities to show we were worth taking a chance on, and once that door was opened for us, we were to jump in,work hard, and prove ourselves.
That lesson put us all in our place. In fact, as you can see, it stuck with me almost 30 years later. I have since told this to my college-aged daughters; one who graduated (& thankfully has a job)last spring and one who will graduate in December.
A college degree is fine, but if a person does not want to go to college, I see nothing wrong with seeking training for a trade.
Midnight madness: unfortunately, what colleges tell you and what is really out there are 2 different things...Even some of those professors, who make big bucks, don't even teach half their own classes, that students pay a lot of money for. Teaching asst. teach most of their classes.

I believe you are referring to a community college, are you not? Yes, that does happen, but that hasn't been my experience. All of my professors (with no exception) had their doctorates. I was never taught by a teaching assistant, and had that been the case, I would have felt cheated. Because of excellent academics, and expertise of my professors (and yes, inspiration), I ended up teaching on the four-year university level.
Before selecting a college, university or a community college, a potential student should look into the academics, who is teaching the courses, what is offered, what is promised in terms of training for employment, and whether the money laid out is worth it. Then a decision is made in the best interest of the student. Being informed is the key. You cannot make a choice blindly because if you make the wrong one you'll end up with regret, facing years of digging yourself out from under student loans. For some, it's just not worth it.
I don't know, Kate did not go to college and she seems to have been able to get far in life. I am totally joking with this statement! It's not proper nor is it realistic to get far in life on the backs of others.
College I think has a way of expanding your knowledge, your connections to people and the world around you. It may help you in your career path, it may not I think it depends on how you feel about learning and where you feel it can take you, what it can enable you to do for yourself or others along the way.
It's not for everyone as it depends on your approach to academics a lot of the time but life lessons I think will always be there.
Speaking for myself as a person who usually studies for 12 hours just to keep ahead of the game, there is never a limit to where knowledge can take you and what you can do with everything you decide to learn.
I do however find it strange Kate is so insistent that she says she has to put all 8 kids through college. Not all 8 of her may decide college is for them. It's not something I think parents need to force on their kids but put college out there as an idea to help expand themselves their potential and abilities.
Now, I can't believe I will ever defend Kate, even if it's just a tiny, tiny bit. I am one of the very few lucky ones to have had a mommy who has been willing to pay for my college years. Not all parents will be able to afford to put their kids through college fully but it does however help young people avoid years of student loans. So in a way, perhaps a bit even if Kate went about filming the wrong way, her kids might *big might* have money so they will not have to suffer student loans. I have had the privilege of never knowing that struggle and to those parents here, just know that some college kids appreciate the opportunity.
Maggie said... 197 Chefsummer asked" When will Kate be on the today show does anyone know.? She will be on this coming Monday. I helpful hint...a period and question mark never go together. It is either one or the other. ***************************
Oh, yikes, dear Maggie. I had better apologize in advance for my constant typos. And is a helpful hint ever a person, as you indicate above?
An addendum to my post...I have never used a teaching assistant. There are some excellent ones out there who are quite dedicated to academics, but students feel cheated when a professor doesn't teach, and rightfully so. I could write a dissertation on college educations today, but this is not the place.
Back to Kate! Is Lauer interviewing her on Today, or hasn't that yet been announced? Could it be a preemptive strike against the Gosslinbook threats?
Count me in on the side of higher education, especially in this economy. Companies have the advantage, so many jobs now require a degree or at least some college experience. It is telling that no one on this site that has a degree says that they regret it.
There are so many options for earning a degree, with flexibility to accomodate family and work schedules, and even credits given for life experience, a higher education is more accessible than ever and opens doors to opportunities.
Anger issues I hear what you're saying about the professors not teaching their classes. As someone who works at a university I have an insider's viewpoint. It costs the university a lot of money to have a professor teach the the lower division (typically freshman, sophmore) classes so graduate assistants teach them. Graduate assistants cost about a 1/3 of what a professor salary and benefits costs. So professors are "held back" to teach upper division and graduate level courses. Sometimes professors agree to teach a lower division class but then get what's called a "course buyout". Meaning if the professor teaching load is 5 courses per year they will only teach 4 courses for that academic year.
Currently our university receives between 6-7% state funding. The rest is made up with grants and alumni donations. And this university is a state university. In this funding environment the university has to figure out how to teach the students with less and less state funding. Thus students in lower division classes aren't taught by more expensive professors.
koopdedoo said... 167 Thank you friend! I was wondering if the rest of the series was worth it!
College: I always thought the purpose of college was to teach you how to think and research, no necessarily technical job training. Unfortunately I have a specific degree as a social worker and in my state jobs are few and far between right now and will remain like that until the political climate changes, likely after I am of retirement age.
Even with Kate's technical school RN, in my area hospitals have now started hiring BSNs ONLY which Kate does not have, so her choices would would be a bit limited.
kateplusmy8 @2thank @xxxxx'....and for every made up lie abt someone, there's a stupid moron to believe and spread it...'(sorry had2add my 2cents)
I get the "sorry," part, I really do.
It's gotta suck the lifeblood right out of your veins, to have an elevated lifestyle whittled down to this. Running a marathon for the unbelievers...neener-neener tweets to your "haters"...slings and arrows for those who dare to hold up the mirror of truth. Where's the joy, I wonder, in having your entire life revolve around other people's opinion of you? (Because--deny it all you want--this is the "sorry" message you're sending, imo.)
When I was in UICC, half of my classes were taught by TA, you only saw the professor, at the first class and the mid-term and the final.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
What does UICC stand for?
I would hope anyone interested enough to spend the money it takes to get through a Bachelor's or Master's degree would take the time to research the school first.
I would think most people wouldn't simply read a billboard advertisement and head directly for the admissions office.
OMG, i hope that Kate is on DWTS, what a hoot that would be. It would not start another TV career for her. She would just look like a fool, whether she takes dancing lessons or not.
She is not liked, not by anyone. No one can convince me that she is liked, but she will bring in ratings, she will kiss everyone and she will cry when she is shown the door, her goodbye speech will be something like this: tears streaming down her face "when I was here last time, my 8 children were 4 and 8,now my 8 children are 8 and 12. If it weren't for my 8 children watching me tonight as the 8 children begged me to go back to one of the 8 children's favorite shows, DWTS, to watch Mommy dance again. Then Kate will make the 8 finger sign and draw a big heart and do the big open mouth I LOVE YOU, all 8 of you!
I like that. She will repeat that 8 children so many times, the cameras will scan the faces of the pro dancers who last time were trying not to laugh when Kate said "can I say a few words?" and Tom Bergeron said "well, we were going to show the film of your adventure here but go ahead" and off she went into balling her eyes out, thanking the entire world and especially her 8 children for "allowing" her to be on the show and understand her time away. She spent over 3 minutes talking and thanking away and crying. I laughed so hard I think I wet myself, but then again I wet myself laughing every time she tried to dance. She was pathetic and as Whoopi said, "she is one angry bitch" lol lol lol........we need her on this show just to watch her dramatics; it will be so funny, we will laugh for a year.
Bet she is booking ballroom lessons right now. Someone will meet her in the back of the tanning salon so no one will catch her going into Arthur Murray's dance salon.
Saw this on Twitter today - apparently Kate's weave fell off and Steve handed it back to her. Isn't that what all bodyguards do? So funny!Looks like he's the photographer, also - guess it's true she sells the photos to Radar.
Preesi is NOT shutting her site down. Read again, "IN 2 WEEKS MY CASE AGAINST KATE GOSSELIN WILL BE CLOSING." Her site is still up on other topics of interest. preesi & members decided enough was enough. Monster Dearest claims she's relevant because the "haters" are paying attention. Time to stop the madness.
For haters aka truthers and idol worshippers to start a dialogue about Kreider's possible return to DWTS is another opportunity to feed Monster Dearest. She reads these blogs. It's part of her daily paperwork routine. It's probably one of the reasons why she's exhausted at the end of the day.
Regular bloggers are engaged in conversations about other topics. I love posting at preesi's because I can be as outrageous as I wanna be. Sleuthers there are insanely intelligent & hilariously funny!
Has anyone seen the TLC's mediz blitz about their current reality shows? Yes, TLC still has outrageous programs but they're pushing the concept of FAMILY. NO mention of Kreider. Why? Because she's a nobody without the Gosselin 8 and Jon. Time to move on b/c her insults and bitchy attitude is NOT worth our precious time.
I think she is doing a half marathon because that's all she can do. Eyes will on her and she cant fake her way thru the full again (MY OPINION)
Regarding the tweet about do the kids seeing the grandparants.. Read carefully @XXXXXX @Kateplusmy8 have you seen your family ? I know you said your kids were asking about your mom and dad
@XXXXX yep!:)
The YEP is yep the kids still ask about her mom and dad in kate speak. Not yep I take them to see them. She plays with words
If kates new PR person can get her gigs..good for her. THe issue I have with it is any gigs she gets will be phoney and written by others. kate has no cooking tips, fitness tip, organization tips etc. She doesnt have an original bone in her body. Any show for instance would just be kate being the face for others ideas. She does not have a talent therefore really doesnt deserve a show. I dont agree she deserves to have things handed to her just to keep the kids in their accustomed lifestyle. Unless she has something to offer she deserves to be mediocre as she truly is. I would prefer her to actually learn something is she is going to promote it, talk about it, or give advice on a topic. She is actually less than mediocre to me because she appears to have no intellect for a normal conversation. Her world is very small and only revolves around ME ME ME. That to me is the most boring type of person. If she wants to sponser marathons..I have no issue since she does run. Although I will never believe she ran 24 miles. I do however wish she would learn more about the sport before yammering on about it. I also think she needs to learn a lot more about exercise in general and a LOT about nutrition. ORGANIC doesnt mean healthy. It;s what you do with your organic ingredients that make for a healthy meal.
Im rambling..Exhausted..but hopefully you get my point
oh, also. Her new PR person seems on the ball. She may be able to pull kate back into the spotlights for a while. Unfortunately for Erin..she wont be able to keep kate there long since kate ruins every opportunity thrown her way. I do notice hat kate is all sunshine and mirth right now. I have a strong feeling her new PR rep is trying to bring out a kinder, softer kate so that she is more marketable. May be too little too late though. I do think the tweeting about the phone call was stupid though. I get Erin probably wants to generate interest but it appears lame and "trying to hard" to be tweeting to the world about a phone call to make kate look "in demand."
I feel there more kate in the media on the horizon during this next year. I think it will fade again after that. Honestly, I dont really think she even deserves it..but ex reality stars can milk their time in the limelight for years to come with $$$ opportunities. ONce you hit a level of fame..you can make money for a really long time with various projects. I have an issue with the whole "famous for being famous" thing reality tv spawned but it's here and ther eis nothing we can do about it but vote with out remotes.
Let's crunch the numbers on Kate's jaunt to San Diego 'for fun'. She will need to pay for 2 round-trip airfares, I'm guessing a minimum 4 nights in a hotel San Diego (2 rooms) marathon entrance fee, food, shopping, rental car etc. This is a minimum $2500.00 expense PLUS whatever she pays Steve daily.
My wish is that there is someone tracking her every step in this half-marathon. As a former runner, I was never convinced she ran the full in Las Vegas. IMO, she has not trained enough for this half-marathon. She is all smoke and mirrors.
I hope the cruise people are noticing how freely she throws money around for what suits her. However the numbers didn't add up for them in their case.
How is she going to spin this trip to her kids? Mommy is going to show you what determination looks like. Or, will it be, mommy has to fly to LA to do the 'paperwork' for DWTS, and then I'll combine it with a run. Whatever she says, it works for her, and that's all that matters.
There is a good opinion piece in the Salt Lake Trib about privacy of children. It uses the Times magazine cover to discuss this important issue. Its becoming more important to respect child privacy because of the internet. Its impossible to take something back once its been put out on the internet. Parents need to be careful about what they share. It can come back and hurt their children in the future.
The link to the article is here http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/54132903-78/cannon-ann-son-breast.html.csp
My favorite quote from the article is "The problem is that parents, without realizing it, sometimes view their children as extensions of themselves. The woman breast-feeding on the cover of Time is comfortable with her decision to go public. OBVIOUSLY. And (also obviously) she therefore assumes her little boy must be, too. Why shouldn’t he be? He’s her son after all."
Any one who in interested should go and get Preesi's recipes. It is all gourmet food and even had one to make homemade butter with just heavy cream and a good mixer or food processor.
I too am very happy that we have a place to post without every single line item being about KT. I am bored with her, I don't care if she is on the Today Show, because I don't watch (since they let her come there with a $300 purse and cry about bills she couldn't pay). I will watch DWTS because I always watch whether she is on or not. I just really don't care anymore. Neither of them can support the kids in the manner to which they are accustomed without something in the media and it looks like they both are trying to do that without kids (well one not totally).
Oh Kate, YOU are the one making up lies about yourself and YOU are the only stupid moron to believe your bullshit Miss No-Nanny, no boob job, college educated, PCOS afflicted, sole provider for your kids.
So Kate isn't publicizing this 1/2 marathon and wants to be sure people know she did not train obsessively for it. Probably preparing everyone for her a surprisingly slow time since she can't ride a scooter this time.
I agree with Preesi. What is there really left to talk about Kate Gosselins that hasn't been said a thousand times before and the only ones left talking about her the people who don't like her. Everybody else pretty much forgot about her. She is an unpleasant memory. She is a turd that has been flushed. She has about five fans who tweet her daily and you can argue all day long with them on twitter about whether or not Kate sucks it as a mother and as a person in general, but those dumbasses will never get it. I believe that they really know what a total imbecile Kate is but just to save face and prove you wrong, they will lie their asses off and defend her stupidity even more.
WOW Anonymous. Let me get this straight, just becasue they'll never be rich we shouldn't have any social workers? Some people don't base their career choice on how much they'll make, they base it on what they want to do with their lives. Yes, the work environment is changing in the US and more and more companies and employers are requiring a college degree. Most college grads understand that they'll start at the bottom and have to work their way up.
Jane said... 20 Saw this on Twitter today - apparently Kate's weave fell off and Steve handed it back to her. Isn't that what all bodyguards do? So funny!Looks like he's the photographer, also - guess it's true she sells the photos to Radar.
EM, I agree with you about Kate's "Yep" regarding the kids and grandparents. Yep, the kids ask about them, but that doesn't mean she lets them see them. If she did, she'd be tweeting about it just like she tweets about an old friend from school coming over for a swim and barbecue. I don't believe that happened either.
Regarding someone's comment that they know Kate is a runner but she couldn't complete a marathon. I don't believe that she is the dedicated runner that she claims to be. We only have her word for it and some pap pictures that for all we know, she arranged. That doesn't prove she's a true dedicated runner. Especially from her diet and exhaustion she always tweets about, I would think she'd have more energy being so healthy and not having a real job or responsibilities. Folding and arranging towels shouldn't wear out anyone, even me, a pudgy 55 year old grandma. I do so much more than Kate every day at work and at home, and I am never as exhausted as she claims to be.
My final thought is about the college discussion. I see both sides of it. My daughter graduated with a nursing degree and is doing well. My son-in-law went to an automotive trade school because that's where his interests were. He graduated and is also doing well. I myself never went to college, but happened to get a job in healthcare billing and collections 25 years ago and learned from the ground up. With my experience and work ethic, I am doing well for not having a college degree. It's different for everyone. I do agree that it seems that a degree is really necessary in this competitive job market these days. However, I think you do have to weigh the cost against the advantage. I can't begin to remember the number of college graduates with degrees in art, music, and psychology worked for me over the years. If you want the degree, you have to be determined to put it to use, otherwise it is just wasted money.
Wouldn't it have appeared on all the gossip sites if it were real or at last shown up somewhere before now?
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Tweet -- I thought it showed up in September on the gossip sites, the purple dress she wore for the Today show interview. I remember at the time her hair looked much fuller than it usually is.
Okay, I thought I was done, but I forgot to address Kate's tweet regarding is it against the law to talk about the number of children you have.
No, Kate, it's not against the law. What everyone has a problem with is you trying to make money and sustain a celebrity lifestyle based on the number of children that you have. And you keep talking about the number of children that you have stating that you need a job in TV to support them.
Once again, you are wrong. Many families of multiples are raising their children and living their lives outside of the limelight. Your problem is YOU want the celebrity lifestyle and keep trying to use the NUMBER OF KIDS you have to get it/retain it. YOU need to get a REAL LIFE!
I believe that they really know what a total imbecile Kate is but just to save face and prove you wrong, they will lie their asses off and defend her stupidity even more.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
I always thought this, too, and if they don't know, they are even more stupid than we thought, if that's possible.
My dd is studying photography. She says it would take a very long time to photoshop all those stray strands, but possible 'if someone really hates her' (dd's words) However, yes, the whole hand with hair could be photoshopped from an entirely different photo. So not definitive according to 'my source.'
Funny though! Kate claimed her hair now 'is all mine."
Was reading over at GWOP and had to laugh at some of the comments on DWTS. Apparently "oh yes she does" is back (without her tag line but same writing style) this time with a family member or friend working for ABC. Also someone made comments about Kate's demands to appear on the show again (private trailer, no recording her practice sessions, etc) and although I don't believe that anyone has insider information it w fun to read because it does soun like Kate... Oh yes it does!
Anonymous 32 -- I agree with you. Most of us don't go into a career with an eye to how much money we'll make, we go into it thinking it's something we're good at or something where we can make a difference in the world. When I graduated from college and got my first teaching job, I also took a parttime job as a waitress. I made more money at that parttime waitressing job than I did teaching school. Eventually, I couldn't take it any longer and took a job completely unrelated to my education, with a government agency. Fortunately, I turned out to be very good at that job and loved it, but it's not anything I would have even thought of when I was planning my college career.
I'm sorry to hear Preesi is closing up shop. With GWOP and Werny Gal's blog being moribund (look it up, KK), that will leave this blog as the only "hater" blog. I'm so glad we can discuss other things. I'd miss all the warm, witty, intelligent commenters here.
Does anyone really know why Kate is being shown again on the Today Show? Who is promoting this woman? She has no talent, is a greedy grifter, is unpleasant overall, and has exploited her own children for profit. That profile is unattractive to say the least. I feel like I'm missing some reasoning with this picture. I can't be the only one who is confused by this. Isn't it possible for she and Jon to just "go away" from show biz and still support their children? Kids don't need "golden platters." They need food, clothing, shelter, and love. Will it take completely ignoring these people for them to go back to their mediocre existence, or where they came from? Yes, I'm annoyed at this point in time.

I cant even find that post you are referring to, but clearly you 'get' it and I thank you. Being a social worker is a calling, a ministry almost, certainly nothing one goes into for money or respect or job security. That is very hard to comprehend in our money-oriented society. It is something you study hard for, do 15 hours per week of mandatory unpaid internship for nearly 3 years and then everyone laughs at your work and your salary.
But 95% of all Americans have no idea what to do when their mother falls, breaks a hip, and the dementia takes hold in full swing - and she wont take her medicine or participate in therapy. Or when the doctors look at the family and say 'nothing more to be done but your loved one has to leave the hospital now, we need the bed.' Nor what to do when a profoundly disabled child needs services the family cannot pay cash for. THEN all of a sudden every demands and is 'entitled' to my proprietary knowledge. But they wont pay me for it, nope not at all.
I have to agree. She's done. She's been done. I think I've been waiting for some big bang to signal the end of her time onion the public eye, but it was a whimper. And it already happened.
She bores me so much. I'm inspired by what Preesi is doing. I think I'll make it official and make a clean break now.
Midnight madness: that was at a 4 year university,UICC, not a Jr college. I got an AA from a Jr college, and the person who was listed to teach that class was the one teaching it, no TA. Yes, I did feel cheated. They were making big bucks and not even teaching their own classes.
But yes, everyone who is going to the college or university, need to look beyond the beautiful campus, the schools reputition, and really look into who is teaching the classes, and what is the job market like, to make sure you are taking a subject that will get you employed, and not waste money and put you and/or your parents in debt. And own loans up the wasu. I have a BA, and still unemployed. The employers are picky. But I have not given up yet!
Jumping In, I agree wholeheartedly. I would like a camera to follow her EVERY step of this marathon. I don't know if anyone remembers this, but a couple of years after he WON the NYC marathon, Rod Dixon donned a cap with a camera that tracked his progress in the NYC marathon for every mile. No one saw all that footage, of course, he was then a correspondent, not competitor. BUT he gave live updates all along the route.
Without this kind of documented progress for Kreider, I will never believe she completed ANYTHING. Fact is, for her to be braying about trying to finish in under 2 hours is pretty damned arrogant. Her 26.2-mile time in LV was seconds under 5 hours. For 13.1 miles, she'd really have to be hauling ass to complete in anything under 2 hours. And, again, knowing the lengths to which this consummate dissembler will go to sustain her "image," if I didn't see footage of her at every checkpoint (documented by someone other than PurseBoy), I wouldn't believe a time under 2:00 for this distance.
Those are clip on hair extensions in her hair. All the celebrities use them for big hair days. There was at least photo I remember of PB carrying those in his hand at the Today Show or somewhere.
AuntieAnn said... 5 Oh goodie Dwindle, what and who is John Rich stiffing now? He didn't walk out of a restaurant without paying did he? Can't wait to hear what you have. :o)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
He has been banned from several clubs, resturants, pubs and honky tonks in the downtown area. In one instance, he came into a place alone at 2pm, tossed his American Express Black card on the table and was drinking alone. He decided he would give a server's breasts a few good sqeezes! Management asked him to cash out and leave immediatly, but he DID tip the server well. A bouncer assisted him to cash out and leave quickly.
This is not "I heard from someone who knows someone who..." That server was my daughter!! and her entire crowd groans when you say his name. On the other hand my son in law, 101st Airborne, has had many beers with Toby Keith it seems. On Toby of course.
John Rich's ego is huge, but he is often alone now without an entourage and neither he nor his money is welcome much up and down Broadway and Music Row.
There was lots more gossip, but he is the one we were talking about on here last week, so I was pretty interested when 'the kids' started grumbling about him.
Jumping in to say that teaching assistants IS the norm at many universities, even top tier universities, it is by no means a rare thing, it is a common thing. It was the norm at the school I went to, I did not see a real professor until sophomore year. With me I got lucky, I had mostly good TA's. But I had one very, very bad one for Spanish who was also very insulting and disrespectful to us so I've seen that side to. My public speaking TA is probably the reason I am even a lawyer--I overcame my fear with his help.
It is also very common to have difficulties getting into classes you want until you are a junior or senior. This is happening at colleges you would never expect. I love the John and Ken Show out of L.A. (they have even taken the Gosselins to task) and this is one of their hot issues right now, the problem of TA's and not getting into the classes you need.
What's ironic to me is the "everyone should go to college" thing is one of the problems here--whether you agree or disagree with the principle, everyone IS going to college. Not enough of the best classes, teachers or schools to go around since everyone has been told they need to go now. And the reality is some of the core classes can feel like high school again with many students there not all that serious about college. That doesn't help anyone with the romantic idea that college will be this great intellectual oasis of thoughts and ideas and inventions. Ummm....nope, just like high school thanks to "everyone must go!", lol.
End the gosselin crap: UICC, is: University of Illinous at Chicago Circle, Circle Campus as it is more known. I only went there for 5 semesters, and transfer to Norteastern Illinois University, and graduated. I also went to college 30 years ago, college was cheaper and things were very different. Different being: cost $1,000-3,000 a year. Not like it cost today it's crazy. Almost a rip-off.
My first thought was this: It ought to be against the law to show minor children NAKED on tv.

Apparently TLC is learning. They are the learning channel. When I was watching Little Couple for the first time this week during the marathon, I noticed they were blurring out baby's private parts. She works in the NICU so there are a lot of naked babies.
So NOW the baby's private parts are private. Sigh.
Those are clip on hair extensions in her hair. All the celebrities use them for big hair days.
&&&&
Yes, not for just bad hair days, just to make their hair look fuller in general because that photographs better. Also if you put some of your hair up, you might use that to make the part left down look fuller. Narcissist used them all the time, like anytime photos would be taken. Your hair just looks better on camera when it's as full as possible.
But yes, everyone who is going to the college or university, need to look beyond the beautiful campus, the schools reputition, and really look into who is teaching the classes, and what is the job market like, to make sure you are taking a subject that will get you employed, ------------
You'd need a crystal ball to determine most of your criteria. My oldest daughter graduated in '09 from a great university in human sciences (yea, I know, no money...BUT, it was what she was interested in..she married a fellow grad, he had almost a 4.00 in aerospace engineering, and couldn't find a job. But, he always wanted to serve in the military, so now he's an officer in the Navy. Second daughter graduated from the same university last week, this college has one of the most respected business schools in the country, had a 3.12 gpa while also working, and she can't find a job...she has a degree in Finance. So, plan is to look for a job all summer, and pursue an MBA in the fall.
There's no way to know what kind of degrees are going to be 'hot' in 4 yrs, and even if you could, if that's not your interest, you are wasting your time.
There's also no time to find out if profs teach what classes, ect. First, no one within the system is going to tell you that, and second, if you are vying for an early admittance placement in a university that declines 60% of its applicants, you are damn happy to get that acceptance letter, T.A.'s or not.
Life is about taking chances, no one is guaranteed tomorrow, you just do the best you can with the resources you have, and hope for the best. I'd rather equip my kids with a college degree, at least it does open doors. Sometimes you use your degree, sometimes not. But it OPENS the door.
There are a few here that aren't college educated yet are doing well financially, but I would assume that is the exception rather than the rule. In today's global market place and economy, this generation is facing obstacles that scare the living daylights out of me.
kateplusmy8 Kate tweeted, @boatsandbows yay! I'll look for you there! ;) good luck!
Who is she looking for at the marathon? Is this a friend? If not, isn't it going to be a bit difficult to pick someone out of a crowd when you don't know the person you promised "to look for?" :) This person might want to clean up her language just a bit if she expects to meet Kate!
I saw where they're really going after a sheeple, her husband and some book their kid wrote because they say he got a "hater" fired from her job for tweeting. It doesn't make sense to me. Can someone really get fired from a job for tweeting? What do you think?
Aggiemom: I know what you are saying. The problem is, the push for a college degree, from the colleges & univer., themselves, and the promise they make, the cost to go there, then you have the businesses out there saying no degree no job. It becomes a nasty little circle. No end no beginning, but the circle gets bigger all the time.
Look at how many of those jump-up colleges and online univers. there are, throw commercials at you.
The only place now I have seen of jr college making an effort to help people become employed, was here in Chicago City colleges, our mayor is working with the jr colleges to get programs that work with companies to educate and train for jobs at these companies.
Aggiemom, I agree with you 100%. It should be against the law, but unfortunately it isn't. I don't understand why it's not. I have some photos of my daughter, and years later my grandsons, in the tub playing. However, they are private photos and not broadcast on television (and later on you tube) for the world to see.
There's also no time to find out if profs teach what classes, ect. First, no one within the system is going to tell you that,

Yes, there is a way to find out. Most colleges will tell you that. If you cannot find out by speaking with admissions, with the registrar or with college personnel, all one has to do is to use the website, search under class courses/schedules, look at the courses offered in your major area of concentration and note the professors. Colleges have listings of professors under the faculty pages and it's not difficult to check their teaching credentials, degrees and classes taught. Many of my students have told me that they do just that before enrolling in a class because of the TA controversy.
If all else fails, there is always ratemyprofessors.com!
Carmen: that is why, they are tryin to get a law passed to prevent employers and prospective employers, from invading your privatecy, by asking: for your password to your facebook acct, any place you tweet/post. To me it's none of their business. I've had interviewers ask me what books I read, what TV shows I watch, what kind of food I eat, do I go out a lot, what kind of stuff I buy, do I see family. I told one of them: what does this have to do with the job I am applying for? THeir answer: we just want to get a feel for what kind of person you are. I told him, what I do in my free time is my business, he got little nasty with me on the phone, I told him I would never want to work for your company, your too nosey, this interview is over, & hung up.
I also went to college 30 years ago, college was cheaper and things were very different. Different being: cost $1,000-3,000 a year. Not like it cost today it's crazy. Almost a rip-off. _____________________________________________

Actually I agree with this. If the college is not being upfront about this, steer clear. The college I ended up picking DID use TA's and DID have big classes for core classes, and DID have crowded classes you couldn't get into until later years. But? They were upfront about it. They said look this is how it goes. It was either for you or it wasn't, but at least you knew what you were getting into. Another great way is to get a student-led campus tour and ask them all these questions. They should be honest with you. If they're playing hide the ball red flags should go off. Personally I did fine in big classes, I just sat in the front row and it was like a class of 10. And in hindsight I'm really glad I got used to that because that's how law school is even at the best schools, your class will probably be at least 60 students. But it was important to me that I knew and understood this would be my experience before I bought it. I don't like being misled.
I quit school and went to work at 18, that was back in 1964. Back then, jobs were easy to find, I worked for Air Canada in their reservations department. Over the next few years I moved to a US airline, and within 4 years in to a management position. Still, I always felt I should have had a university education, even though I had managed to come up through the ranks without it.
One day, my assistant asked me if I would see a girl who had come by with her resume. When she came through my door I was surprised to see it was a high-school friend of mine who had just graduated from university. We both saw the irony of the moment. I did not have an opening for her, but yet I still envied her.
My lack of a university education always bothered me and at age 50 applied to enter university as a mature student. I loved the environment, had a good work ethic and soon got over being in classes with kids. After my first year, my husband and I moved and I went back to full-time work and have not found my way back since.
I believe in higher education, even having had a successful working life without it. I love learning and am curious. I have never been motivated by money, for me, it's all about a good fit and wanting to get up and do what you do every day. I have been very fortunate, but remain a strong advocate for higher education.
Ms Kreider is boring. I think master P and Steve Wozniak would be on all stars dwts before her. Anyone who wants to hear about terrific mother-son and parent-child relationships, the good and sad and funny, check out www.5decisionsaway.com and listen to Matt Paxton's podcasts #29 and #30. Matt is one of the ” extreme cleaning specialists” on A&Es Hoarders TV show. He is funny and crude and this is just fun to listen to. Warning: only listen to #29 if you are easily offended. Matt did that one for mothers day with his own mom, so not so much locker room humor and not as much bad language as usual.
I graduated from college 26 years ago (dayyy-ummm!), tuition was 19 bucks an hour. And we griped then, lol. Now it's 200 plus an hour, in-state tuition. I never had t.a.'s in college, but some of my kids have, that just seems to be 'how it's done'. These tier one universities call all the shots, and if you don't like it, well, there are plenty of kids that would LOVE to take your spot. There are two tier one universities in Tx, competition to get in is INTENSE, and both of these alumni associations are very loyal to their own.
When my oldest graduated, the banking industry collapsed, I think the numbers were 20% of grads in the country found jobs. Fast forward 4 yrs to no 2 kid's finance degree, and it still hasn't rebounded enough to supply 2012 graduates a job (read an article last week, that said 50% of these grads found jobs, and most of these jobs did not require a degree, ie, waitressing, etc.).
YES, a hater was fired for tweeting. She "alluded" to the fan and the fan's husband called the HR department. This is after the IW's systematically sent lawyer letters to the same HR department. Company got sick of it and fired a single mother.
Fans should be very proud and the IW's proved their true selves.
College catalogs and websites sometimes do list which classes a professor will teach. That doesn't mean that the professor will actually teach the class when the time comes. Professors go on sabbatical, get course buyouts, get grants which means not teaching that year(s) or term, get ill, go on parental leave, die, classes cancelled due to low enrollment. Any number of things can and do happen that results in a professor not teaching a class. And its really not a bait/switch scenerio. Things can happen at the last minute.
One of the saddest issues I took care of a few months ago was a beloved professor died of cancer. The prognosis was she would have at least another year to live and we scheduled her to teach fall term. It was not to be. She passed away in December. Students who wanted to take her classes couldn't. This was an exteme situation and one I hope I never, never, ever have to go through again.
In another case the professor came back from sabbatical two days prior to the start of fall term and told the department head she wasn't returning. Absolutely no warning to the department. We scrambled and found an instructor and yes, the students were disappointed. As for us in the department we were decidedly unhappy at the situation we found ourselves in.
Upthread someone mentioned that only about 60% of the applicants actually get admitted to college. I don't know the specific statistics but that's probably about right. What happens during an economic downturn people can't find jobs so they head to college, especially at the graduate level. In one department, not the one I work in, there were 500 applications (not an exageration) for 6 graduate slots. This means just to get the graduate application file reviewed all the material has to be correct and on time for review. If anything is incorrect or missing, its not sent to the admission committee.
And another thing the federal financial funds have been cut which means in order to afford college students are taking on more debt than ever before.
Its a vicious circle, go to college cause can't find a job, not enough financial aid, taking on more debt at graduation, job market still sucks, can't find a job. Now taking a job in an area which is not the degreed area and at a low wage.
Kate keeps saying how she calls the movie "Muppet(s) of a man" - which drives the kids crazy...and I don't understand this reference at all...what am I missing? Is this a play on words? I've tried to say it out loud, but it means....nothing. Am I just not picking up on Kate's cleverness? (Gah - I can't believe I just typed "clever" and "Kate" in the same sentence.)

Re college: I like to read ” the color of money” column by Michelle Singletary, she writes for the Washington post and it is syndicated to my local paper. She has also strong opinions about college and debt, that kids who are unsure of what they want to do do not go to college to decide but instead go to community college, much less expensive, or take a year off. Parents should take advantage of 529 plans, kids should look seriously at less expensive state public colleges, and yes not everyone needs college for their chosen field. My older dds boyfriend is doing quite well in the HVAC field, and he likes working outside and in varied places. the dh and I started a 529 college savings plan for older dds son as Virginia had one. We could deduct the payments from state taxes and grandparents could contribute to it! We paid hers off in 5 years and then did same for younger dd. With that, scholarship, state grant, older dd went to expensive small private Virginia school for about same state school would cost. Her classes were small and taught by professors, no TAs. She had minimal debt at graduation and immediately started a job she began as an internship in school. Her boyfriend took a couple of community college classes he paid for in total, decided he didn't want college, and found an apprenticeship for HVAC. Dh has a masters degree he earned while working, and his job paid for the classes. I got a masters degree while working parttime and going to school parttime, paid in full every semester.
State U. circa 1975 - tuition = $207.00/semester room & board = $585/semester, I had no lab fees, books <$200.00/semester, sorority dues = $85.00 a semester.
I had T.A.'s. My Logic TA was magnificent at teaching Logic. My foreign language TA was very good, too. So good we started dating...
Upthread someone mentioned that only about 60% of the applicants actually get admitted to college. ----- That was my %, but what I said was 60% of the applicants to my kid's chosen university will NOT gain acceptance. What the national figures are I have no idea.
What makes it even dicier for this particular school's BA dept, is that of the 15,000 enrolling freshman, only 1500 gain admittance to the business school. If you don't have a 2.0 after the first semester, you are kicked out of the business school and NEVER allowed to re-enter. If you go into the university, say an education major, you can forget transferring into business as well. It might be a *little * easier if you are transferring from engineering. If you transfer from another university and want admittance into the business school, uh...it ain't happening. Getting into the bus school is pretty much acquired by being a top ten percent incoming freshman. Kid #2 has a business degree and can't find a job, kid #3 is in the human science field, and incoming kid #4 is going into the business school. Good decision? Who knows? but if you don't punch that school of business ticket out of the gate, you can't gain admittance later. Scary, huh?
The kicked out the bottom 4 or 5 percent of my law school class. Some schools kick out even more. You can want to go to college as much as you can but at the end of the day if the school kicks you out you're done. People say well just work hard but trust me everyone is working harder than they ever have before--and someone working hard won't make the cut anyway. Our university system is fascinating, what a great discussion this has been!
My theory on her "new" PR is just that she is doing the marathon in SD soon. Erin Sexton's PR firm is based in SD. She probably no longer has a regular rep like Julie Carson May and the folks organizing the Rock and Roll Marathon probably set it up.
In the attempt to create twitter buzz they confirmed their conference call and Kate mysteriously wrote: I'll be in touch through our connection person. Oh you mean CONTACT person? Moron!
The most recent Muppet movie with Jason Segal had a song ” am ia Muppet or a man” that is really cute. Maybe Ms Kreider is referring to that? It is a Disney production, so she is showing brand loyalty.
I admit, I bailed on first degree. When I walked into class we were 9 chosen. Over 600 applicants. My 19 yrld brain couldn't deal with those ramificarions. I went back 2 years later in a different feild ..for me !Graduated tht time..lol
Reader lady@41 The original comment about social workers was made by anon@3. My son works as a counselor/case worker in juvenile corrections in a girl's recovery unit and loves his work. He feels that he's making a difference and helping these kids. He'll never be rich but working for the state he makes a decent salary and is happy in his work. To get the job he wanted he started at the bottom as a juvenile corrections officer. Hard work, dedication and education got him to where he is now. Sorry I had to post as anon @32 but my computer at work was acting up and that's the only way I could post (and I forgot to sign it).

************

Chefsummer asked" When will Kate be on the today show does anyone know.?

Thank you friend!

@2thank @xxxxx'....and for every made up lie abt someone, there's a stupid moron to believe and spread it...'(sorry had2add my 2cents)
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Kind of redundant, isn't it? I've never heard of an intelligent, brilliant, or brainy moron.

So I suppose that means when Kate makes a lie up about Jon her (stupid moron) fans believe and spread it. Time to eat your words Kate.
Saw this on Twitter today - apparently Kate's weave fell off and Steve handed it back to her. Isn't that what all bodyguards do? So funny!Looks like he's the photographer, also - guess it's true she sells the photos to Radar.

Well Obama will be at the G8 Summit this weekend. I wonder if the sheeple think that it means he'll be visiting K8 and the G8.
Preesi is NOT shutting her site down. Read again,
"IN 2 WEEKS MY CASE AGAINST KATE GOSSELIN WILL BE CLOSING."
Her site is still up on other topics of interest. preesi & members decided enough was enough.
HI 50
I think she is doing a half marathon because that's all she can do. Eyes will on her and she cant fake her way thru the full again (MY OPINION)
Regarding the tweet about do the kids seeing the grandparants..
Read carefully
@XXXXXX @Kateplusmy8 have you seen your family ? I know you said your kids were asking about your mom and dad
@XXXXX yep!:)
When Kate runs the marathon, will the kids get another cake saying Run, Mommy, Run?

Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks that photo is photoshopped.
Wouldn't it have appeared on all the gossip sites if it were real or at last shown up somewhere before now?
Okay, I'm done now.
Wouldn't it have appeared on all the gossip sites if it were real or at last shown up somewhere before now?
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Was reading over at GWOP
and had to laugh at some of the comments on DWTS.

No, Kate, it's not against the law.

My first thought was this: It ought to be against the law to show minor children NAKED on tv.
I guess we'll see.
No wonder why Kate loves the paps.

Oh goodie Dwindle, what and who is John Rich stiffing now?
Loving reading everyone's take so far!
&&&

That pic wasn't really a big deal IMO.
But yes, everyone who is going to the college or university, need to look beyond the beautiful campus, the schools reputition, and really look into who is teaching the classes, and what is the job market like, to make sure you are taking a subject that will get you employed,
------------
You'd need a crystal ball to determine most of your criteria.

Kate tweeted,
@boatsandbows yay!

Re photo:
Interesting. I never remember seeing a photo of Steve carrying Kate's clip on extensions. Maybe that's a good thing. Perhaps she is fading in my mind.
Regarding photo shopped, I didn't mean the hair was photo shopped, meant maybe Steve's head was put on someone else's body.

30 years ago and you still haven't got a job? Hmmm...
What did you major in?
Yep, you know it's movie night at the Gosselin house because Kate is tweeting the whole time, instead of interacting with the kids.

Another "Gosselin Family Tradition" to add to the list:

@Kateplusmy8 oh my god. THAT IS SO CUTE putting surprises in the popcorn. I should start doing that..

Gaaa the Kontent Farmer doesn't understand what a tradition is. Gaa open a dictionary!
The definition of a "tradition" is NOT, "just something neat I do from time to time."
I wish I had all the answers.
I could go on and on but that's enough for now.
I work at a 4 year university.
Am I just slow?

I'm watching a show called my mom is obsessed.
I have to say theses mother's are ten times worse then Kate could ever be.I mean theses mom's are real a-holes to their kids.
State U. circa 1975 - tuition = $207.00/semester
room & board = $585/semester, I had no lab fees,
books <$200.00/semester, sorority dues = $85.00 a semester.
I had T.A.'s. My Logic TA was magnificent at teaching Logic. My foreign language TA was very
good, too. So good we started dating...
Upthread someone mentioned that only about 60% of the applicants actually get admitted to college.
-----
That was my %, but what I said was 60% of the applicants to my kid's chosen university will NOT gain acceptance.
Oh Kate, STFU. The best gosselin family tradition is Jon
Moron!

As is throwing the father of your kids under the bus.

End of gosselin crap: your funny! lololol, I was layed off 2 1/2 years ago, I worked for a non-profit, and they got zapped financially by the state of Illinois, owed several millions. Non-profits got hit real hard. I went to college about 30 years ago.

I think at the end of the day when you are laid off, it doesn't much matter how many pretty degrees are hanging on your wall.

Hey Dwindle - Thanks. I got such a shitty vibe from that guy when he was questioning the final four on CA. I ordinarily wouldn't give a damn about this kind of dirt about John Rich but it's really the proof in the pudding that it doesn't matter what kind of slime ball character a person has, as long as they're "someone" reality tv producers will hire them for ratings. That almighty dollar! If this guy wasn't a famous friggin' country singer, he'd have had his ass kicked BAD by anyone who saw him cop a feel on your daughter. If he had done that to me he'd be singing five octaves higher.
It's stories like this that will bring him down from his high horse eventually. I've said it before and I'll say it again - karma isn't always swift but it always sure. (Got that, Kate???)
Now I want to hear the other stuff lol. You've got great stories.

I agree he was playing dirty and I don't like people who play dirty. He was so stuck on the amount of money raised, completely ignoring the fact that at most only one or two tasks involved FUNDRAISING! You can't possibly raise the kind of money he did when you only get a few opportunities to do so. It wasn't a fair fight.
