The gardening thread

By popular demand and because it's more interesting than Kate, I'm opening a gardening thread. Share tips, tricks, stories, whatever you want. Feel free to discuss anything else you want, it's not limited to gardening.

And for those who don't garden, you're wrong. You have a garden....in your mind. Check out this awesome viral video.

Yay! Thanks Admin!
Okay so now what's everyone growing?
I'm growing, sweet potatoes, garlic, lettuce, tomatoes (6 kinds) spinach, rhubarb, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries (red, purple, black and yellow) peppers (3 or 4 kinds) eggplant, cabbage, parsnips, peas, various herbs, various mints, potatoes (4 kinds)cucumbers, beans (green yellow and purple) corn (popcorn and sweet corn) watermelon, cantaloupe, drying beans (4 or 5 kinds) Cinderella pumpkin, lemons, cranberries, huckleberries, apples (Fuji, partially self-fertile only need one tree) pears, beets, asparagus (purple and Mary Washington) and a cherry tree (that I think is dead because I didn't water it enough). I think that's it and no I don't have 24 acres. Actually our lot is about 11,000 sq feet. Not all garden. I also have some flowers, hostas and new trees!

Bless you Admin.

I have 27 green tomatos hanging off my TWO count em 2 tomato plants on my patio in POTS! I planted Early Girls... One zuccini plant already has enough zuccs and blossoms to do me for the summer, and I suppose there will be more as the season goes on.

I have harvested my Genovese Basil and Mini Purple Basil 3 times already, and I have to harvest my chives at least 3 times a week. And my Hot & Spicy oregano isnt spicy as much as it is just really strong, so a little goes a long way in recipes. All those herbs are in pots on the patio.

I think I mentioned before i am fertilizing with egg shells.

I didnt think I would get such a feeling of satisfaction out of this, but I sure am, even though it is a modest effort.

Ya know, Ms Thang could be doing this much if not quite a bit more, even if just in patio pots like I am. But I am sure she is much too busy and exhausted buying paper towels and getting her nails done.

Going to try a chive sauce for chicken breasts sometime next week.

I'm looking for suggestions on killing the jungle that is my yard. I have a small plot but the side of my house is overrun with tall weeds. I don't want to use chemical weed killer because I have some Rose of Sharon trees that my mothers loves and I don't want to hurt them.

So here's what I'm thinking.... If I can get a nephew to take a macheti to the jungle can I then place a heavy duty, "tarp like" covering over it to kill the weeds, then remove the existing dirt and the dead weeds, replace with new soil and do something else with that area? Will that remove the roots of the nasty weeds or am I only kidding myself?

We use the most amazing high rise sprinklers for our garden and have them on a timer to water twice a day. The sprinkler is all metal construction (no plastic to break) and puts out a 360 spray that's like rain on your garden every day. We've been using them for years. We started out with 1 to test it and are now up to 6. Pricey but so worth it and no I don't work for the company!

Ahhhhh... Mr. Rogers. God bless his gentle soul.

It IS a beautiful day in this neighborhood, I hope you are all having a beautiful day as well.

What's happening in my garden?

My garden is filled with all kinds of perennials- white & pink azaleas, pink & purple hydrangeas, pink & white tea roses, yellow roses, deep pink colored roses, purple & white lilac bushes (that look more like trees), and hostas.

Every year, I buy different kinds of annuals to line our garden, front/backdoor pots, and Pear trees (by the curb). This year, I planted begonias, and impatiens.

On our patio deck, I have vegetable/herbs growing in x-large pots: 2 plum tomato plants, basil, oregano, and greek parsley.

And that's how my garden grows...

Thank you; anything is more interesting than Kate.

We have a small urban garden, with a raised vegetable box, and several pots of herbs. This summer I am growing tomatoes, a lemon cuke and a green pepper. Lots of basil, hoping for late summer caprese salads. We also planted a raspberry and a blackberry plant in the winter, and were thrilled to have the first berries this spring. Outside of the veggies, we have some citrus trees and a lot of rose bushes. The nectarines get eaten by either birds or squirrels before they ripen. Every year.

Before I left this site, I stopped to watch the video you provided for us.

God. I miss Mr. Rogers.

I cried like a baby when he passed on. I'm till fighting tears watching that video.

Can you imagine if he was an evil man, had a mouth like an ashtray, was manipulative, abusive, alienated friends & family, and was a liar- you know, a bastard in real life?...

I can't.

Boston Bonnie, yes but that way will take time. You'd want to cover it for I think a year, but I'd look it up first it might not be that long. Or you could put down weed block, put some mulch or wood chips over it and do small plantings. You'd only have to renovate the soil where you want to put a plant. I do this with my pumpkins. I open a bag of garden soil, dump it out plant my seeds and cover the rest of the area with weed block and a nice helping of wood chips. (Or I cut a hole in the weed block and use the ground soil, as in the case of my raspberries) The pumpkin grows in the soil and I only have a small area that might get a weed or two.
I walk my garden/yard every day and pull anything that needs it. I have mostly raised beds so that makes weeding easy. Also, the chore only takes about 10 minutes and isn't really a chore. Sometimes when we get a few days or rain or I am away the weeds might get a little out of hand and I'll spend an hour or so (usually less) weeding a specific bed. (right now the strawberries need a good going over)

Kate said that she cried "90 times" in the movie (glad she was counting) and Mady held her hand the whole time. Just WTF?! Who is the parent here and why does crying in a movie require hand holding?

&&&&

Parentification. Is the movie really that sad? Or is Kate just worried the twins will take the message of the movie and realize how similar it is to their own f-ed up situation. Who wants to sit there at that age and comfort their mother? Seems like instead they would be mortified. I have such a hard time believing Mady and Cara didn't see this movie with their friends the first weekend or two it came out. Such a hard time. If they have friends and are doing great like Kate claimed, no way would they wait three months to then go see it with Mom on the rare weekend she has away from her NYC trips and Ratpack boy.

Pink, I had the good fortune of being close friends with someone who once worked on a project with Mr. Rogers in LA. They said he is everything he was on T.V. and more. Not that I expected anything else.

Pink, I love grow bags/containers on my patio. I did my cranberry in a huge one and my potatoes and onions too. My only problem is remembering to water them often. My Meyer Lemon tree is in a pot too. I need to bring it in the winter months.
My next big garden project will be an irrigation system, with rain barrels and a grey water system

What a great thread! I’m now inspired to grow some herbs in pots. I live in a newer home where they don’t give you much land. I only have room in my tiny garden for basil, cherry tomatoes and chives, so pots of herbs would be a good option for me. Plus our dog digs and buries stuff so we have to tripple-fence the area! Flowers? We hang baskets in the front and back, that’s about it. A co-worker recently brought in a bunch of peonies and are they ever beautiful and fragrant! So now they’re also on my garden wish list!

Was the reference to her crying "90 times" and Mady holding her hand to the movie last night? Mady sure is wanting to please her mom. I get it. Walking on eggshells, no yelling, if you pay attention to mom and do her bidding.

&&&&

Which makes me so concerned this movie thing sounds more like an appeasement of Kate so she can brag to her tweeties about her twin time rather than the girls all that sincere about seeing the biggest movie of the year this late and not with their besties but with mommy.

I can't stand parents who force friendships on their kids. Let their relationship with you happen naturally while they have other age appropriate friendships on the side, don't try to be their BFF who loves things like the HG when really you know you're not that into it. Kids see right through that kind of BS parenting. There's a difference between supporting your child's interests and being excited for their interests, and faking interest, and kids know it.

What I find very sad is that Kate brags about all the ways the twins are parentified, just this morning talking about crying at the movies, thinking it makes it look like they care so much about her and she loves to show that off, I guess because it disproves all the bad press in her mind about what a monster mommy she is. See, no I'm not a monster, as you can see my kids LOVE me. Why they even hold my hand when I cry!

When really, all it does is demonstrate how parentified and dysfunctional their relationship is. She doesn't see this at....ALL. Scary.

I've been lurking, but haven't posted in awhile because I just can't think of any observations on Kate's bizarre behavior that we haven't rehashed a million times. Kate is Kate. A psychiatrist's dream case study, but she'll never plant herself on their couch which would be the best dime she ever spent.

Now onto gardening!!! LOVE IT! We expanded it this year and now have tomatoes, cucumbers, peas, radishes, carrots, beans, lettuce, strawberries, raspberries and sunflowers. My 11 year old is picking and eating the radishes as fast as they're ready. And both kids go out each morning and pick fresh strawberries to have with their breakfast. They taste SO MUCH better than store bought. The raspberries are loaded and it's going to be a huge crop this year!

Now for my problem. THE SQUIRRELS!! I've put down blood meal hoping to keep them from digging around the veggies, but it's not working. They don't intentionally chew up the plants, but they're digging in there and ruining things in the process.

How do you beat the squirrels?

We've got this heavy iron rod type tool that we refer to as "the implement of destruction" that we use to punch holes in the caliche. Once we've dug the hole we lift and drop the implement of destruction into the hole to punch through. It does seem to work. We got it at Ace. Although born and raised in Jersey I'm an Army wife and we're in the SW now so I know from caliche!!

We've also started to use a new product called "Revive". It is all natural and does something to the soil so that the water can get through. Our landscaper recommended it to us and it does seem to work. We got it at Home Depot.

Aww poor thing. I wonder if, when they got home they had to put her to bed after a massage and a glass of warm milk and brandy.

Then there was the skywalk jump...waaa waaa waaa (like Dayana Mendoza's imitation of Lisa Mussolini crying). Mady immediately ran to her side.

Once again Parentifaction epitomized. She really does think the entire world owes her, but mostly her children for having the honor of having her for a mother. Gawd she irritates me.

Okay, I have to go back on my nothing to say about Kate comment because this just brings back such vivid memories of that stupid jump she did in Australia. The epitome of parentification was demonstrated by Mady. Kate didn't want to jump, couldn't just let her kids take the glory and make it all about them and how proud she was of them - of course it had to be all about her. And as if that wasn't bad enough, collapse to the ground in tears scaring the crap out of your kids so Mady can't even relish in her own accomplishment, she immediately has to comfort Mommy. SICK!!!

Thank you Admin!!!!!!!!
That was eight exclamation points to keep with the theme of the website.
I have a flower bed in front of the house that I hope will one day be all perennials and things that reseed themselves. Daffodil bulbs that come up every spring, iris that just finished blooming. I grow fennel for the swallowtail butterfly caterpillars. And sometimes I cut some off to put in salads. The fennel comes up from the bulb every year, and will grow to 5 or 6 feet by the time it gets cold and dies back. It looks kinda like dill but more feathery foliage, and has a licorice kind of smell.
I have four lavender plants I am trying to keep the dogs from peering on. The dog killed one of the lavenders already by ” watering” it! I an trying something different this year by mulching the lavenders with sand over newspaper. The lighter color is supposed to reflect more light to the lavender plant and increase blooms or something. Since I have a cute ceramic pair of sandals and some shells, I have the area between the lavenders decorated with a beach theme, it is small area but cute!
I an also growing lemon balm and bee balm, the red monarda, and cat mint, all of which come up from seed every year. My cat leaves the cat mint alone. I have not had good luck with cat nip.
This is the first year I had Rosemary survive the winter, but it is kinds woody. I an going to anchor some stems with rocks and see if I can get them to root .and then trim back the older woody part. The plant is kinda prostrate and spreading out, I want it to be more bushy. Any ideas would be welcome!
I also have a sage plant that comes back every year from the roots and spreads out and up. I also have lambs ear in front of some of the taller plants, the spikes of purple flowers are just starting to bloom and the bees like this too.
I like to grow plants and flowers outside for the bees and butterflies. And caterpillars, you have never seen anything eat as much as those caterpillars chomping the fennel!
I also have A couple of butterfly bushes, those things you can prune back to 2 or 3 feet and it grows back to 8 or 12 feet tall, year after treat, and you can cut pieces off and root them to.
Inside I have pots with chives, basil, parsley, thyme, and oregano growing. I will move the pots outside.
For mulch, I go the cheap route and use newspaper with thin layer of pink bark mulch on top. Newspaper makes a terrific mulch, use 3 or 4 sheets, cover with the mulch. If you want to plant anything extra just use a trowel to poke a hole in the paper. The newspaper is biodegradable and it allows water to drain thru.
I an excited to hear about everyone s gardens!
Thank you again,.admin!!!!!!!! (x8)

Well, I just went out into the garden and there are holes in my green pepper plant leaves with edges also chewed away (and I saw 2 spots on the stem of one plant that look like chew holes) PLUS something ate the cantaloupe and cucumber plants down to the bottoms of the stems! AARGH. Cannot figure it out, we keep looking at different hours of the day and never find a worm or an insect.

SO ANNOYING. This is Ohio, it's not like you have time to replant each time something dines on your plants!

We are going to have a terrible year for fruit here, as well. Everything was ruined with the early super hot weather and then cold. There were hardly any strawberries and everyone is craving them even more because no one could get them. :(

Dmasy said... 24

For the pumpkin and zucchini growers -- be on the lookout for a borer worm that shows up soon. Your healthy plant will start to languish and nothing will develop any further. A small slice in the thick stem will reveal a little white worm that is sapping all the nutrients and moisture. If you can get the worm out and bury the slit under new soil and then water a lot, you might be able to save the plant. Wood ash around the base of the plant is said to prevent the moth who lays the egg that becomes the worm.

It can be a sad end to a flourishing zucchini vine.

What do I plant?

In the spring I have tulips, daffodils, and grape hyacinth.

Herbs both in the garden and in pots: basil, parsley, chives, oregano, thyme (lemon and silver), cilantro , golden oregano and sage.

In pots I have geraniums (bright red), petunias, Sweet William, an abutilon (orange) and gerbera.

Annuals: morning glory and impatiens.

Perennials: peony, clematis, day lilies (10 different varieties and ranging in color from yellow to orange to pink and purple), lavender and four varieties of hosta.

Garden: three varieties of tomato including cherry tomato which yields like crazy, the requisite rhubarb, and strawberries which we are currently enjoying.

Thanks, love this thread.

My grandmother (god rest her soul) always had the most beautiful rose garden. I ask her how she managed to always have such beauties growing in her garden and she said she always had an empty coffee can on her counter in the kitchen and put egg shells coffee grinds and potatoe peels in the can. When full she would put that compost around her rose bushes. I tried it and beleive me it works.

On to gardening, my hobby. I am a rose hobbyist and have won many trophies in my local show. Last year I won Best in Show! So exciting... My secret is a natural fertilizer called MaxSea and worm compost. If any of you don't compost yet, you should consider it.

I also grow tomatoes, jalapenos, basil, cilantro, cantaloupe, squash, lettuce, spinach, heirloom carrots, radishes. My fruit trees are lemon, lime, orange (Valencia), and pomegranate.

I think Kate has chosen M and C as her new besties because she doesn't have any other friends. This is a big mistake on her part. 6th graders need parenting, not a big blubbering baby who relies on them for emotional support.

I am best friends with my 26-year-old daughter, but this relationship formed while she was in college, not when she was 11 years old, for crying out loud!

Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, zuchini, potatoes, carrots, beans, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet corn, strawberries, asparagus, rhubarb, parsley along with a ton of flowers(my favorite. I still do the flowers, have quite a few from my grandma's farm that we took with us when we moved. Thing was, we never yielded enough strawberries to make anything, the kids and their friends always picked and ate them when they were playing. Good memories.

I'm in Ohio, too, and I understand your frustrations, LOL. I'm no gardener, but I'm lucky enough to live near several pick your own farms. I've gotten a few strawberries and some blueberries, and some early beans. Can't wait for the tomatoes and cukes to come in. My problem with the pick your own is I tend to go overboard and gather more than I can use before it spoils. I'm still working on the chocolate mint. So far, I've managed to keep the cat out of it and it's growing, so cross your fingers for me. I've never been successful in growing things. I can kill a thriving coleus in about 2 weeks, LOL.

I can't believe KK actually took the twins to see "The Hunger Games". Mady, especially, I would think would be very affected by that movie. She's shown herself to be highly agitated by violence and cruelty.

My mother loved gardening and had gardens every place a garden would grow on our property. She thought of gardening as her therapy. She hoped her kids would love gardening, too.

My sister got the gardening bug.

I, however, did not. I hate and despise gardening to this day. Mom used to think she was doing a good thing by having me help in her gardens, that I would enjoy it. Nope. One day she put me in charge of the big garden in the front of the house. I pulled up every flower she had and left every weed. On purpose. When I brought her around to the front to admire my gardening skills, she about had a heart attack.
I told her I was done with this hobby and asked for inside work to do. I need a ceiling over my head, please. So, while she gardened I cleaned the garage, the basement, the closets,
scraped the wax off the sunroom floors tile by tile, whatever. I was happy because my hands were not in dirt and the sun was not beating down on me. The end.

Oh, and I can't tell a tulip from an oak tree.

When I moved here 2 decades ago, there were some kinds of bright flowers in a garden. I was told they were daffodils, crocuses and tulips, but you couldn't tell that by me. Someone had gone to a lot of trouble...first chance I got, I invited my neighbor to dig them up and plant them in her yard someplace. When the time was right, she did.

LOL on hating nature. I don't hate nature, but it seems to hate me. I'm allergic to lots of growing things. I'm miserable from spring tree pollen through fall ragweed. I never really liked gardening, mostly because of that, but my mom was a gardener and I picked up some things from her. I would help picking things (tomatoes, beans, peppers, etc.) and watering the inside plants. I guess I'm just not a planty person. I do, or did, raise lovely cats, though LOL. I'm enjoying reading the thread. It's much more pleasant than reading about KK's latest atrocity, and I can appreciate y'all's pride in your gardens. It's a lot of work, and I admire you for doing it. I hire someone to mow my lawn and I confess to having no flowers at all, except when that bumper crop of dandelios shows up every spring. I do have several flowering trees, though -- one flowering peach and 2 flowering pear. They're lovely in the spring, but a bit scrawny still. They're baby trees (maybe 10 years old) and still growing. I'd love to have a big maple or oak tree in my yard, but no such luck. I live in a fairly new development and, of course, they cut down all the lovely old mature trees, then planted the baby trees later. Not much shade going on. Only advantage is not many leaves to rake in the fall.

NJGal, bet you didn't grift your sprinklers even if they are pricey.

Amazing how Mady went from the one who rebelled the most against the mother figure years ago to being the one most likely to be showing a caring attitude when she is in a 'time of pain' (however small an incident or whatevah caused it).

And how does kate think she can convince us that her kids love, like or can even tolerate her? We've seen her nurturing side (the front side of it still trying to get to her). Which brings me to my contribution to the gardening blog. Since I have NO luck with plants, I have enough common sense to know that my plants need to be silk. I even underwatered a cactus (guess they need water more than once every two... years. Now if kate would only learn this lesson, no mothering skills...DON'T have children. Try your luck with pet rocks!!!!!! !!

I have no issue with everyone sleeping in, Lord knows we do that in my home, but to say it is so because of their exhaustingly "fun" night last night.... tells me this is such a rare occasion for those kids. Truly sad. To be 8, and over the moon about getting to play with their best friend... SO. SAD!

Yes, indeed! This is EXACTLY why I never had children. I have no mothering skills, and was fortunate enough to realize that while still young. I like to look at cooing babies and sleeping babies, but there is where it stops for me. No interest in the hard work = no babies for me. I am pushing 60 and have never regretted my decision for one nanosecond. I am too involved nwith my job, my friends and my own pursuits to be mother material. Thank goodness God opened my eyes to this before it was too late. I would hate to think of child raising as a failed experiment.

oh, I am a northern gardnener who has mainly shade gardens, and 1 sunny garden.

For shade: I love Coral bells, have many with all different colors of foliage; Hostas, Ligularia; Columbine; Creeping Jenny; spirea, japanese painted fern; Nine barks; minature bleeding hearts; Yellow FoxGlove; mock orange;bugbane; lamium; bavarian blue bells; ornanmental grasses; and a couple of daylillies that flower in light shade. I supplement with impatien for all season color.

For my one sunny and very hot garden: Echinecea. I bought a new one this year called Summers Fire, and it will bloom in yellows to reds, so am excited to see that one bloom; false sunflower; stoncrops; lamium; sem false spirea; sweet williams; scabosia; and dwarf bee balm. I fill in with annuals using portulaca and Nicotianna. I also have some daylillies around the garden.

Can't grow anything INSIDE the house tho :( I kill all indoor plants...

Readerlady, try local raw honey for your allergies. A spoonful a day. My hubby has allergies and while it doesn't get rid of them completely, it helps with the flare ups. My hubby was a city boy. Every year he's amazed how I can grow waxed beans in those little cans.lol He never had a garden until he met me. He never had real bacon or fresh laid eggs either.

We also got some chickens several years ago. (BEFORE Kate!) I love them. I don't think i will ever not have at least a couple of chickens. Their "dropping" make great compost and they eat anything. They get to free range in the yard and any leftovers in the fridge. They eat bugs and ticks and even mice. They really aren't a lot of work and are so rewarding. Hubby thinks they are the ultimate in recycling.
Zelda Zee, I have heard of window gardening and I think it started in Brooklyn. I'll try to find a link to what I am talking about but it's been a while.
For those who are having problems with cutworms or slugs try some diatomaceous earth in the soil around your plants, especially squash plants.
For groundhogs and squirrels and other rodents try pinwheels. Yes, like when you were a kid. Target has them for $1 and they are all over my gardens. Works great for groundhogs, might work for squirrels. Also I have had some luck with liquid fence, available at Home Depot/lowes etc.
For those that can't dig up their yard for whatever reason, try raised beds or grow bags if you want to garden. Initially costs some $ but well worth it in terms of no digging, no weeding hassles. Gardener's Supply has some really nice fabric grow bags. Amazon.com had/has a great deal on big plastic grow bags too.

My very best advice if you think you do not have that Green Thumb is to just buy a house plant known to require but a cup full of water once a week. Say every Saturday. I am going to spell this wrong, but start with a Phylademdrom, it is beautiful, green and requires only INDIRECT light, which means not in the window but in a room off to the other side but can still feel the warmth. Put one in your bedroom and keep the blind open in the daytime, the light will filter thru sheer curtains or hang one in the kitchen window that only gets some light. Put one on the kitchen table to add warmth. It is a wonderful feeling to see this plant grow. You have something beautiful, spray it with water once a month, only lightly. Enjoy it. It is a friend that requires the bare minimum amount of attention and it looks so pretty that soon you will have many. If you take a clipping from one (just to the dirt, put it in a glass of water and wait for whitish (kate helped me) threads forming under water and there you have it ready for planting in a nice bowl of potting soil. Be pleasant, be kind and do not give up. It will work. Nature is beautiful if not force fed. It is like people who try to force feed you bull. Sometimes we just don't believe it all at one time nor do we believe that some people love nature just as some people don't even like motherhood. Ola!

Readerlady 36, we think, too, it's a deer eating some of the plants down, but it could also be a groundhog. We haven't seen any deer prints, and my fellows at home are pretty adept at identifying those, lol.

As far as the holes in the leaves - definitely an insect but they are hiding! I'm going to try to look tonight.

Strawberries - in Amish country here (maybe you are, too) and usually an abundance of berries, but this year I managed to get only 2 qts early on, and then 3 last week. That's it. No one has been able to get enough, whether buying or upick, to even make the usual jam and such. The two upick farms right here ran out in a week because plants were damaged in the frost. I hear the cherries will be in bad shape this year, too. :(

Michigan is in a terrible position, its famous cherry crop was basically ruined :(

I see her latest tweet to a new follower is the usual "join our fun". I've never known anyone so obsessed with "fun". I find it amusing to read her tweets. I suppose the "fun" for her is when she is absorbing compliments and being praised for doing all the mundane things she does. I guess the "fun" for the fans would be when she graces them with a tweet. God help the fans, recognition from her appears to be their only pleasure.

Kate's latest tweet is the same old, same old. Block the bullies and join our fun. What fun? The only thing that happens is tweeters asking for a retweet, Kate spewing her BS about what she does, and the crazies like Milo fawning over her and stroking her ego. That's as much fun as diarrhea.

As for gardening, we have a perrenial garden at the side of our house and another one in the corner of our backyard, and one next to our deck. I know we have tall daisies, day lillies, roses, tulips, mums, and other flowers. However, I don't know what they all are, but they sure are pretty.

My hubs is a wonderful gardner and he handles everything on the outside; the vegetable garden and all of the smaller flower gardens. He plants, fertilizes, waters, weeds; I do nothing except wash the vegetables he picks. He doesn't do anything inside the house, but he takes care of everything outside, in all seasons. He just loves being outdoors. Others might not care for this arrangement, but it works for us and we're both happy.

Now, it's been awhile since I mentioned my boys, so I have to let y'all know that they'll be in next Friday and we get them for a whole week!! I can't wait!! Already buying their favorite snacks and drinks, and will be getting the pool set up for them. I also went to Dollar Tree to buy a few little things for each of them that they love playing with: bubbles, airplane gliders, and plastic bugs (yuk!). Getting their bikes ready and anything else I can do for them before they get here. My daughter asked me not to spoil them this trip; hahahaha!!!!! She should know me by now!!

I am in agreement with so many of the other posters: I am done with flowers and plantings and fussing with the yard. We have some basic ground cover in what used to be flower beds and the only thing i have going now are hostas. Every few years they need to be thinned, otherwise they require no work at all, except watering in times of drought, like now.

That is why I am doing patio pots for my few herb and veggie plantings. Dont want to bend, crawl, dig, kneel, weed. I'm done with that now.

Can anyone advise me on the best way to dry and preserve chives? (Freezing in ice cubes probably wont work for the way we use the chives all winter.) Thanks in advance!

I have a groundhog who lives behind my house. At least, I think it's a he, because there've never been any signs of baby groundhogs. I didn't know they'd eat plants. My cat, who is strictly an indoor kitty, goes nuts whenever she sees him waddling around in the yard.

Speaking of cats -- if any of you decide to follow Angie's suggestion and try a Philodendron (sp?), be very careful of your pets. They are toxic to dogs and cats if nibbled.

Barbee -- I do have a couple of silk plants in the living room. One of them started to look a little motheaten and I discovered that my cat was nibbling on it. Guess she thought it was the real thing. I tried growing a pot of kitty grass for her, and I couldn't even keep that alive for very long.

One of the things I used to do for my kids was put some things into paper grocery bags. A bag for Sally, a bag for Bobby, you get the idea. I called them Rainy Day Bags. There was some kind of puzzle book, art book, fresh box of crayons, a few toys of interest, maybe a drink box and a packaged snack or two. I put their names on them and stapled them shut. Just so that in times of restlessness, I could pull these bags out and they would open them up as if they were Christmas morning stockings.

You mentioning Dollar Tree and the toys reminded me of that. :)

The trees are all flourishing, whatever it is.

Dwindle, thanks so much.

mostly lurking, in our veggie garden this year we are growing green peppers, green onions, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, a mixutre of leaf lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, and our favorite, butternut squash.

You have to really watch the butternut squash, though, because it will take over your garden in no time. My hubby will break off some of the new chutes to prevent them from moving into other areas. However, we still get 12-14 squash every year.

Our favorite way of cooking is what I saw on the cooking channel. Peel it, cut it into small cubes and put it on a baking tray. Then sprinkle it with salt, pepper, garlic powder, oregano, and olive oil. Bake it in the oven at 350 for about a half hour (depending how much squash is on the tray). It comes out crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and so flavorful. Try it and you'll love it. Even my grandsons eat it. (I know, I know, I always tend to mention my boys in a post somehow!)

I really love the message of Garden of Your mind. About all the amazing and wonderful things the world has to offer and how fun learning about the world is. I will always be annoyed by Kate's comment about Jon content with mediocre. Not only is it hypocritical, since so much of what she does for the kids is "mediocre" as she would say, but it put a negative spin on such a thing when really, a mediocre life can be great fun and fulfilling.

On another note I keep seeing Bristol Palin commercials on Lifetime. I don't know, for some reason I feel more slack for her since she is still so young. I have a Mr. Rogers story . . . When my son was around age 5 we were watching a candid camera type show on tv. They played a trick on a few celebs, including Mr. Rogers, in which upon checking into their hotel rooms (it was some tv conference) there was no tv in the room. Sounds really stupid, I know. Anyway, of course Mr. Rogers was totally gracious, kind, and understanding about the issue. My son watched that and asked, "Mom, is Mr. Rogers a Christian?" I told him yes, then he said, "That reminds me of a song on my cd - even a child will be known by his actions." This comes from Proverbs 20:11, Even a child is known by his actions, by whether his conduct is pure and right. Hmmm . . . We can know people to a certain degree by their actions. We've understood this for a long time haven't we?
I'm enjoying all the gardening stories. I wish it was something I could get better at and more motivated about.

Then, you put on a bright pink 1970's bell-bottom-one-piece lounging suit with large cowl collar. Once the offender is seen committing the crime of scavenging, you run out the door closest to the viewing window, picking up a broom on the way out. You sprint across the lawn waving the broom overhead, screaming "Go away you damned rabbit (groundhog, whatever)".

That will run them wascally wabbits clean outta there, and they will not dare return. Ever.

The one movie I do cry pretty much the whole way through is Legends of the Fall. Oh God I love that movie. Otherwise I shed tears where you're supposed to and I'm good. We're watching Tinker Tailor and I'm hopelessly lost lol.

OT - a few threads back, someone was talking about her young daughter's facial hair. I gave the advice of Hair Be Gone (with baby oil, NOT Wesson!). I'm sorry I don't remember who it was. However, I tried a new product tonight that worked wonders. It is an Avon product called Skin So Soft Fresh & Smooth.

This is a cream hair remover that works in approximately 3 minutes and it did a great job. So, whoever posted about her tween daughter having that problem, contact your local Avon rep. It's only 2.99 a tube and it worked great with no irritation. Also, no Wesson oil required. Lol!

Call Me Crazy said... 114

Oh, yes. Some tears can definitely be shed throughout Legends of the Fall. Brian's Song is always good for some sobbing as well.

This is OT from gardening, but is, I feel, relevant to the overall theme of the blog. I just read an article about/by an actor, a father, and a husband of 5 decades. I think a couple of things he said are very important. Martin Sheen on Fatherhood, but it can also apply to Motherhood -- "Obviously, be aware that your actions will speak louder and last longer than your words. A child absorbs through osmosis what the parents are feeling and what they do, far more than what they say." And "Give them time. Time is really all we have." Are you listening, Kate?

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 116

Sounds like Martin Sheen has a lot of introspection in light of a, shall we saw, screwed up child.

Oh, and Martin Sheen has quietly gone to the local Catholic church for decades. I always go to his church's annual thrift sale. Never saw a single pap there.

Reading all the great garden tips made me think about what a garden planted by Kate would look like. Then I realized we have already seen it.

Kate's Garden

Planted with the seeds of discontent.

Fertilized by the generosity of strangers.

Watered with the tears of children being screamed at or ignored or laughed at or disrespected.

Strangled and destroyed by greed and selfishness.

She has reaped what she has sown.

Call My Crazy when Brad Pitt goes to the cemetery for the first time and Susanna finds him there crying and comforts him......oh I'm a mess.

And how pained he looks when he tells her he's leaving and doesn't know when he'll be back and she tells him she'll wait for him.

And the bar scene where the bartender won't give their Native American friend a drink and he goes batshit on him but really it's because he's filled with such guilt.

Oh, that movie how I love thee.

I bet the gardeners might know a trick for this one. We have a skunk problem. The city captured them all a few months back but six weeks later they were back. Is there a humane way to get them to not come around?
They actually don't bother my plants, but they do take a drink from the koi pond. I hate that dang pond. It was not my idea. I've heard skunks hate light. I've shined a bright light right in one's face and he didn't move an inch. I've also tried cayenne pepper, no luck.

NJGal51 said... 120

When we had a skunk they told us to wait until he was gone at night and block off the area he was getting in (he was under the house) and then put out an ammonia wick. The ammonia wick was a dish of ammonia with a longish piece of cloth trailing out of it. They apparently don't like ammonia. It worked and he never came back. I've also heard that moth balls work to kep them at bay.

You could try motion sensor sprinklers. But probably your best bet, if you're able to do it, would be this:

Sprinkle a light layer of flour, chalk, or other white powder around it's den and wait until nightfall. After dark, return and look for tracks leading away to indicate that the skunk has left in search of food and then get to work sealing up all of the entrances. If you do this right the skunk will not be able to get back in. If he does, wait until the next evening and try again.

Number 3, no press clippings from the Reading Eagle newspaper is permitted here. Number 4, Jon's decisions are his decisions, I do not answer questions about his girlfriends because I can't keep track of them all and while some of us are being there for our kids others of us are being hither and beyond for their own pleasures. Rule number 5 please do not accuse me of saying negative things about my childrens' father as I am very careful not to do that. Number 6,I will try to retweet all the wonderful flattering comments you make about me so keep that in mind. Number 7, there is only room for positivity on this site so make sure you bring positive things to say about me here. Number 8 Oh my Gosh, we are up to Eight already, just like my Eight count em kids, that is so awsomeish, thank you for counting ME among your celebrity friends, I hope to be back awn tv soon as your friend, hero, role model. If I can do it, you can too! Kate Gosselin‏@Kateplusmy8

Rather than say how "amazingly awesome" this feat was-all she can come up with is "he cheated".

And yes, Kate, if you had been paying attention, it was mentioned before the walk, that he was required to wear a tether by ABC, who sponsored and televised it. In case he did fall, ABC did not want to be responsible for airing someone falling to their death. He did not want to wear the tether, but did so as to not lose the funding ABC provided.

She really is a tool, isn't she?

amyf-I don't have twitter, but I'd say for MOST people, a retweet is a way of sharing with your followers, a tweet that interested you or a way of spreading the news about something of interest or to promote a cause(i.e.charities,etc). A retweet can also be a way of stating that you agree with a particular tweeter's comment.

For Kate, especially when she retweets her fans adoration of her, it's her way of trying to validate to the world(and herself) that she is the most wonderfullest person that has ever existed.

Mamamia, I cut the scapes off (the flower stalk of the garlic plant) and run them trhough the food processor and use them just like garlic. Yummy! This year I have a recipe for Garlic Scape Pesto, hubby can't wait to try it.

Garlic in PA is planted in the fall, usually sometime in October or so for the following spring. Be careful using stuff from the store, it's a good way to introduce diseases and such to your soil. I'm growing six different kinds of heirloom garlic and will save the best bulbs to re-plant in the fall.

Asparagus is planted in the spring. You want to buy crowns, not seed. Seed takes forever. Crowns will allow you to harvest some the second year with a full harvest by year 4. It's a lot of work to establish a bed, asparagus is a picky plant.

Good morning, all. When I answered mostly lurking yesterday about what we grow in our garden, I forgot that we also have green beans. Green beens from the garden are so delicious, cooked or raw with a little ranch dip.

People have commented about animals getting into their gardens. When we planted our first garden 20 years ago, the little pest we had was our first puppy. Jake kept jumping in that garden and digging as fast as he could! Hubby finally tired of replanting and went to the hardware store and bought the cheap wire fencing that comes in a roll. It's about 40 inches tall and it kept out our puppy and all the other garden lovers (rabbits, racoons, etc.). It's still up and our grandsons know that they can't go into the garden unless Papa opens the little gate. Then they know it's picking time!

You know, what we found with our daughter, her friends, and now our grandsons. Even though kids give you a problem eating veggies, if we have them help pick them, they are more likely to eat them. The boys love to see what they picked on the dinner table, and they eat it, except the brussel sprouts. I can't get them to eat those no matter what I try.

A tip for those of you who have deer troubles. Spread a fertilizer called Milorganite around those munchable plants. It works and your plants will thrive.

Yep. Kate's fun is hearing the praise from her tweeties. Amazing she puts down the high wire guy. She's a fine one to talk about cheating.

About The Hunger Games: the reaping scene, where Katniss volunteers as tribute and then she says goodbye to family is sad and cry-wo rth y. Katniss recalls her fathers death, that's very sad. Two, maybe three scenes during three games that you could cry at. But not the entire movie! There are some really funny parts, Woody Harrelson is funny as Hamitch, and the premise its a satire and condemnation of reality TV taken to the extreme.
Why someone would cry thru the entire movie is just beyond me. Unless they really didn't see the movie, and are just talking about it like they think someone would.

JoyinVirginia said... 137

Good gracious! I saw a news story about the wallenda guy preparing for his walk a week ago. He was still trying to arrange funding to cover it all. He said the total costs were about one million dollars, and the network was only paying a portion of that, he had to hustle to get other sponsors. And yes, he did not want the tether and thought it might mess up his balance, but the TV network refused to sponsor him unless he used it.
For Ms Kreider to say ”he cheated” is just plain not accurate, plus considering her history is very ironic.

JoyinVirginia said... 138

One question for Exterior Designer please: when you harvest your garlic scapes that is the flower stalls, do you cut them off before or after they have flowers? Can you cut off the stalk and flowers and all and use that in your pesto?
I have never tried growing garlic, but you all make it sound not too hard, so maybe I will try it. Does it do well in a large pot?
Thanks in advance for any tips!

I've gotten the feeling for a long time Kate tells the kids that anyone accomplished who did something just through their own hard work must have somehow cheated their way to the top. She alluded to that on DWTS though I can't remember exactly what she said now. It's in a recap somewhere.

I also remember Hannah accusing Collin of "cheating" in the Easter egg hunt. No Hannah, he did not cheat. He busted ass and worked hard and that's why he had so many more eggs than you. Then Kate took his eggs and redistributed them. Whhha!

Kate hates simple hard work to get to the top. It flies in the face of her whole scheme.

Just a mom and grandma, I do the same thing! Stocking stuffers, various holiday bags, little surprises, they're all from the dollar store. And the boys love them!

When they're with us, we take them to the dollar store and they each get to pick out 2 0r 3 items. Then the cashier will give them their own little bag with their treasures and the boys just think this is the greatest!

Many of the outdoor toys we have for them are all dollar store finds. Butterfly nets, bug catchers, bats and various balls, pool toys, etc. Their favs are the foam airplane gliders and the bubble wands.

So much joy yet so inexpensive. Get it, Kate?

Today we are making a "gardening" trip to friends of ours that live about an hour and a half away. They have a small farm and they raise chickens. Hubby uses the chicken poop as fertilizer in our garden. He started doing this about 4 years ago and it really does make a difference. The veggie plants produce so much and our gardens grow much better with this fertilizer.

We're having a cookout with our friends while we're there and it will be a nice, relaxing day. The only downside will be driving home with the plastic buckets of chicken poop in the van!

Except for your dog, I think you might have been in a world of trouble. This is a dangerous world.

Haven't told anyone about this yet, but at 7:00 a.m. a couple of weeks ago (on a Sunday morning), I was headed east to McDonald's for a cup of coffee through the drive-in before heading in the exact opposite direction about 20 miles away to go to Lowe's. On my way to McDonald's, I noticed a white truck with two men in the lane next to me and they were keeping pace w/ me and staring. I slowed way down so they could get ahead and noticed they had an out-of-state tag--Electrical Contractors was written on the side of their white truck. When I suddenly turned into McDonald's, they whipped into a grocery store parking lot across the street. Got my coffee, forgot about the men, and turned back west to head to Lowe's, taking a rural road as a shortcut. Just as I got to the highway to cross over to Lowe's, I looked in my rear-view mirror and saw the same two guys who had followed me for 20 miles. Again, I slowed, letting them know I had spotted them, they pulled up beside me, waved to me, turned right and headed down the highway.

We all have to keep our wits about us and be careful. And, as you said, if there was ever a real need for a bodyguard for Kate, it's while she's running on lonely roads, which throws that excuse for a bodyguard out the window.

Pity Party, the black bags you see next to the newly planted trees are most likely irrigation bags.

I'm taking a small break this year from the normally very ambitious gardening I do because we're doing a lot of traveling this year. But I do still have lots of herbs, tomatoes, and peppers.

I seriously doubt Kate really cried even once during Hunger Games, let alone 90 times. Why? That would require feeling something for someone else--a character on a screen in this case. When has anyone seen her feel such intense feelings for anyone other than herself? ::crickets::

As a narcissist, she can see when emotions are expected in a movie and when ere are sad parts. She can see when normal human beings would get some tears jerked, but none were jerked out of her. Even when trying to drum up sympathy for HERSELF on some interviews, she had to poke her own damn dry eyes with the corner of a tissue to get any moisture.

She probably really did make the girls hold her hand, drama queen and spotlight hogger that she is. But cry? Nope.

Also, I love that this thread probably pisses her the hell off. Gardening? What about herrrrrrrrrrr????? LOL.

And yes I agree someone like her who cuts corners all the way to the top doesn't understand how you get to the top with your own hard work, and if you do manage to do it that way, she is jealous and wants to cut you down. Even her own children, Collin who made it to the "top" by busting butt and gathering all the eggs, what does she do? Empties out his basket and redistributes them! Way to teach a child if you work hard, your efforts are just going to get sabotaged.

&&&&

Yes! Exactly. I find this fascinating with narcissists. They seem to understand, well, normal people might cry in this movie. Though they are incapable of producing the real sincere emotion themselves. But in an effort to seem normal, they well up some tears anyway. But because they are so incapable of really understanding why someone would cry n a movie like that, even though they get that things are happening that are prompting tears from others, then when they do describe how they cried, it's just not quite "right" or normal. I.e. I cried 90 times......no, it wasn't that people should cry 90 times, it's that people cried two or three times at the two or three saddest parts.

It's the same with affection from children. In an effort to seem like they have a loving normal, non-narcissistic relationship with children they might describe a child comforting them, holding their hand, etc. When really, they are off again about a normal parent-child relationship and it just makes the child sound parentified and the whole relationship terribly dysfunctional.

I love the psychological study of all this mess. It really is just yet another example of the narcissism and watching someone TRY to be normal, but they just aren't.

Admin-well, she admits she's "kidless" this weekend. Letting Shoka out is probably one of the kids'(most likely a boy) responsibility.

She tweeted that at 9:30am-her last tweet last night was at 11:48pm. Wouldn't be surprised if she forgot to let him out last night.

I'd be more concerned about the fact that the dog was able to open the door and that she advertised it. Alarm system or not-it's a safety factor.

That's way too late to let a dog out. Geez.

But anyway sounds like made up blog fodder to me anyway. Do I believe in any case she takes good care of this dog? No.

I Love the out-of-doors, but suffer allergies to the max.

Lalaland - have you tried zyrtec? OTC and lasts 24 hours. I swear by it. (but it's not organic :) ).

Re: animal pests: one thing that has worked for me is chili pepper flakes. They kept the squirrels and the neighbor's cat out of my strawberries.

They also work in bird feeders. Birds can't taste them and they provide birds with vit A.

Pepper did not work for the skunk under our shed though. He dug right through them (apparently in a frenzy)..

I have found pepper flakes in bulk at Indian grocers and co-ops.

Gardening supply catalogues also sell pepper oil in spray bottles.

Marigolds around your plants will help with aphids, as will spray containing pyrethins (the same compound found in marigolds).

I have tried mothballs, but they stunk up the neighborhood!

OR... Steve left early to get home to his other wife and forgot to reset the alarm. Shoka can't talk so he gets the blame.

Solved.
Agatha Christie would be pleased.

Poor Shoka. He's the least favorite boy. I don't know if she hates the dog but it sure seems like she ignores him. My poor fur baby would pee on the floor by 9:30. As a dachshund, he's too short to open the door by himself haha.

Admin, I think its time to reiterate your statement (paraphrasing).

She should not have responsibility for taking care of anything with more needs than a cactus.

Kate is a twit said... 170

Didn't something like that happen once before? Shoka somehow opened the door, set off the alarm, and the cops showed up. She tweeted how it upset their whole morning schedule or something like that.

If she actually made it up-then she's stupider than I thought. Way to show how easy it is to get in or out or you house, Kate-even the dog can do it.

Kate is a twit said... 171

Yes, it's a perfect set up for her next blog posting on her website. "Shoka" hasn't had a post since early April.

Thought this might be interesting to all of the gardeners http://www.infowars.com/s-510-the-food-safety-modernization-act-of-2010-the-most-dangerous-bill-in-the-history-of-the-us/

This bill was introduced by Sentator Richard Durbin, a democratic from Illinois and was passed by the Senate on Nov. 30, 2010 but was never passed by the House. It's considered "dead" right now but could be brought up for vote again. I have seen this pop up on a few sites recently so it just makes me wonder if there is some new chatter about this going on in our gov.

Essentially this bill would take away the public’s right to grow, own, trade, transport, share, feed and eat each and every food that nature could make and you would not be able to have your own garden.

I will refrain from giving my political opinion on this, as hard is it is!

Kate is still an idiot and THAT will never change.

Don't these marathon moms have their own families and Father's Day weekend plans or are they divorced too?

Katie Cry-duh said... 174

The Hunger Gamed was not a movie that most people would cry in at all IMO. There were a few sad moments but they are not wrenching because the protagonist is so stoic and refuses to crumble. So why would the audience cry and fall to pieces? If Kate cried throughout this movie, I feel so sorry for those twins. She is the perpetual buzzkill

That vile woman has no shame!! She's now grifting Garmin! I try not to spend too much energy on her, but man, she's irritating the sh#$$ out of me right now! ARgg!!!

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 176

Usually she doesn't tweet this much when the kids are gone. I thought she was with her friends. What's wrong they aren't fulfilling the narcissistic supply?

Also there's jumping in yoga? Not in my class.

Judging from manic twatting this am, our Kate has now become Personal Trainer Barbie - PX90! Yoga,! Jumping! Running! I'm tired just reading, nah, not really.

Maybe she and her marathon besties can jump, twirl and dance together before uncorking a couple boxes of wine. Too much fun.

Kate drives me crazy! I am from the Buffalo area and got to experience Nik Wallenda first hand. Yes he had a harness that he didn't want. Did he ever have to use it? NO! It was more of a nuisance than help. He had to worry about that every time he passed a pendulum. That was a once in a life time experience and he did it without a slip. For Kate to say he cheated even in jest boils my blood. Apparently no one but Kate can do something they dreamed of doing all their lives. And guess what Kate? He did it in front of billions of people worldwide without CHEATING! There I feel better. Thank you guys for letting me vent.

Joy in Va, garlic is not hard to grow at all. It's one of my favorites to grow. I get the hard-neck varieties because they are the one that produce scapes. They would do great in a large pot. Just keep it well watered and use potting soil or container soil so it drains properly. I have a garlic grow bag (but I use it for onions). To answer you question I cut the stalk as far down as I can on the plant. I usually cut out the flower bud (the bulbous portion) and chop up the scape in about inch pieces until it gets to the tough part, sort of like asparagus. Then I plop it in the food processor and whirl away. I use this "paste" like I would minced garlic or I add pesto ingredients (oil, pine nuts etc) and use it that way. I found a few other recipes I'm going to try to, one for dip one for hummus and one for soup. I love scapes I wait for them every year to have sauteed with my spinach.
You might have to go with a soft-neck variety because of your zone, I'm not sure.

Personally I'm glad we've evolved as a society where it's just as impressive to do a walk like this with a harness than without. That is for everyone but Kate.

What does she want the man to fall to his death if something happens or else it's cheating? There are some sick people out there.

Carezee said... 184

Exactly Admin. I wish Kate would do it without a harness. It was so nerve wracking watching that man walk that wire. With all the people there watching you could here a pin drop. It was just amazing. I love how Kate only seen the previews. Oh and when asked if she knows the history of the Wallenda's she says I know some family members died walking. She really can't be bothered to research their accomplishments. As I said before no one but Kate gets to have dreams come true or accomplish anything in life.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 185

The gardening and recipe thread are now in the side bar under popular posts.

What's ironic is Kate has one of the most jealous personalities I've ever seen. She cannot help herself. She has a snide comment for anyone accomplished. When called on it she'll back peddle and pretend she was kidding. Her first instinct when she sees someone talented, working hard, and accomplishing something great is not like all of us when we heard this today: Oh wow how awesome good for him. No, her first reaction is to cut him down. It's a very bitter, sad way to live life.

If she is happy for someone it's just because she's being a leach, like with Taylor Swift. She thinks they're BFF because they're from the same area. That's why she supports her because she's just playing latching on.

Re Shoka letting himself out:

We have an invisible fence--I think I remember that Kate has that too. Our doggie door can be set so that it only open if the dog is wearing an electronic collar set to the same code. That may explain how Shoka got out.

It appears that Kate has it "in" for Shoka today.

I guess Shoka doesn't know how to help her...

Kate IS capable of bending over- she
claims to love Yoga. So why can't she
carry her own grocery bags?

She just needs SOMEBODY to boss around.

Those garmin watches she is asking about cost close to$200.00. Hey kate, why not go to ebay and buy a used one. Remember, you're trying to save money on all sports equipment. That should go for you too. Or are you only thrifty,or cheap, when it comes to the kids.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 189

Tweet, yeah that bill is not serious at all. Any fringe politician can try to get a bill through but whether they will get more than two votes is what matters. Frankly I don't know why that bill got any coverage. It would be added to everyone's "crazy" pile and forgotten about. Let's talk about bills that actually might pass.

Interesting coincidence!

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 191

Oh wow now I remember seeing that on Jen's resume. Forgot that.

Wonder if this is some underlying bitterness toward Jen who Kate clearly does not keep in touch with no matter how much she claims to love her crew.

Uh Kate. You ARE fed, cleaned and babied by everyone. KNOCK IT OFF.

And it's too bad Shoka couldn't visit Jon on the weekends with the kids. He's part of the family and if anyone deserves time out from Kate, he does.

NJGal51 said... 193

If Shoka were as loved and babied as Kate claims he is he would be able to walk into her room when she's slept late and let her know that he's got to go out. I don't care what time my bully goes out for "final pee" sometimes he just has to go out at 3 a.m. it's the nature of the beast. I'm not sure that I even believe that Shoka sleeps in the house or gets very much house time at all. If he is allowed to sleep in the basement kate would need to keep the throne room (I mean bedroom) door open so that Kate can hear him if he's barking to go out. If all else fails put in a doggy door and I really don't believe that your doors are that easy to open I think she's just getting ready to do another Shoka diary.

Running, jumping, spinning, yoga. What's next? Is she going to become a Whirling Dervish?

I think the great fitness queen was talking about all the jumping in the plyometric (or pylometric in Kate-spell) workout in P90X. P90X includes plyometrics, yoga, cardio, weight-training, core work and Kenpo karate in its program.

It sickens me to think I have something in common with Her Royal Nastiness, but I have also done my fair share of grumbling and cursing at Tony Horton during workouts. However, I highly doubt that Kate spent 2 hours doing plyometrics, as she claimed in her tweet. The plyo workout lasts 58:36, and that includes the warmup and cool down. The Yoga X workout is the longest in the program and that lasts about 92 minutes.

OT Re: Kate running alone:

It's not safe! I was just walking my dog along trails in a secluded wooded area with no people about. No phone with me- dumb. I saw a dark car parked in the trees so it was barley visible. Then a man popped out and looked at me from a little distance...then he saw my dog and stood back behind his car, did not get in it. Was he waiting for some child or woman alone? Maybe, maybe not. My mind quickly went through my advice to my kids when younger if approached by a potential kidnapper, to make noise, leave as many possessions, strand of hair, saliva, foot print, hand-print in the area. I doubt this man was after me in particular, but it could be a dangerous situation. I mentioned this man to a police officer who lives in my area and he said he'd check it out. phew!

If Steve does not accompany Kate on her walks, she better find a running buddy soon!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
As someone pointed out a few weeks ago, shows like "I Survived" or "Live to Tell" often feature stories from women who were abducted while out running or hiking alone. And those are from the women who lived. If you read or watch the news, there are even more stories of the women who were killed. Chandra Levy comes to mind, if indeed her murder was just a random act of violence. And while Kate might think she's safe there in Amish country, she's not. My corner of PA is about as podunk and as Mayberry-esque as it gets. Yet a terrible, awful thing happened to two young people about 10 years ago, while they were out for a walk just 1 1/2 miles from my home. A few years ago, their story was featured on an ID Channel show. They lived, but only after someone found them barely alive.

Running alone, making herself a moving target, while taking a body guard to a highbrow Red Cross gala, charity functions or other large gatherings of people, makes no sense. To me, it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt he is there to guard the public from her. IMO, TLC initially hired him as a babysitter to protect the brand from her outbursts and snapping at people. Instead of learning the skills needed to interact with people in a socially acceptable manner, she hides behind him as a crutch and to feed her need for importance and superiority.

Poor Shoka. Alone with the momster.

I don't get why those two women that ran with her in LA would want to continue a relationship, particularly after Kate tweets about them. And we know who they are and where they work. They are not friends, just acquaintances. Perhaps they have been bitten by the celebrity bug. Seems like fake gal pal Jamie has seen the light.

I wonder if she makes them sign a nondisclosure?!

Kate is a Queen Bee, and all her fans are wanna bees. Some of them play some different roles like the banker( CJ); the smoother (Milo) ... and if you are familiar with all of the girl land characters, I think we would be able to identify the roles most of them play.

A classic is making a harsh comment, which you really do mean (he cheated), but when confronted about the comment, a Queen bee will often state, " I was kidding, gosh dont you know a joke when you hear it?" Queen bees are often loved by their teachers, because they know how to suck up, and do what they need to do to be liked by those in positions of power. Teachers are often surprised to learn the " Queen bee" is a bully! Once they get pulled into discuss the conflict, they often will cry more then the victim and are very good at turning the tables. When teachers/parents are not aware of the tactics it is so easy to keep victimizing the victim, and rewarding the female bully.

There is a book out there called Queen bees and Wannabees, but I do not remember the title. I took a class in regards to this thru my kids school. The Movie Mean Girls is a great story about Queen bees/Wannabees.

Her comment about the man who crossed Niagara Falls last night, was jealousy, IMO.

And as I said in a different post: anyone who gets so excited about having a friend/playdate whether its her kids or her....is very, very lonely...
