Kate on local radio show Jackie and Scott

Listen to the full interview here. Kate dishes about the Chicago marathon and other upcoming running events, how eight kids are not allowed to each have their own schedule and have to stay shut away in their rooms in the morning with a video, how she's tapping out some books on her iPhone, and finally this guy .....

... her police escort to the station this morning! Currently on the Y102 roof with a sniper rifle.

I really love how so many of you are addressing the jealousy issue- Yes- why would we be jealous of Kate??? We have our reasons and there are many. Personally for me, I am not jealous of ANY (so it's not just Kate, sheeple) person with 8 kids, or any person with more than 3 kids. I don't like large families, I came from one and I can't stand it. I ended up having a singleton and i LOVE it and I think people should be jealous of single kids- and parents of single kids- LOL :D
Also as many of you pointed out, why would we wanted to be hated by so many like Kate is? Yes, that is something I am jealous of- NOT.

I signed up for the Chicago 5K, because I did have time to kill, and the emails from the Coupon Cabin have not once mentioned getting to meet Kate, and now there is going to be a tent, where she might be...?....but they are giving T-shirts that they want their runners to wear in the race. Unfortunately, being the military, our mission has picked up so I no longer have that weekend off, but I will continue to post the information from the emails if it is of interest. So far what I got from them is no guarantees to meet or even see Kate, other than she is in same corral, and they will have their own tent. Kate saying she is running with the group is from Kate's twitter feed, not from any formal communication from Coupon Cabin that I have received so far.
I will say this, if I had still been running, I sure as heck would not have worm their T-shirt, HAHA! No endorsement for their company, no way!
Ok, fun reading here as usual.

Oh, she said she had some event s lined up in October, well, Runners World mag, HQ'd in PA is having their marathon in October. I wonder if that is one she is trying to get in on? I was looking into that one because it is fall and it looked beautiful, scenery wise and it looked like a party.

Exactly. But she should have thought of this when she said, "Mine, all mine, as far as the eye can see," that the expenses of maintaining it will be "Mine, all mine!" A property doesn't take care of itself. She never owned real estate like this, and she was naive. She only saw the grandiosity of it all. She figured that the money would keep flowing in forever, at least until the kids graduated, at which time she would have amassed a small fortune. How funny things turn out sometimes.

Dwindle, I hope you don't mind someone else taking a crack

When Jon urged Kate to take the stick out
It made that poor mom of 8 pout
But its final removal
Gained her tweeters' approval
Because they've filled the space there - no doubt

I read up on rumspringa- ing (?? ) at wikipedia this morning and apparently if a youth dares to attend a Sunday night 'sing' before they're 16 they get forcefed warm milk from a spoon.

Wikipedia is generally reliable on basic facts, but it isn't considering the many different sects of Amish, such as Old Order, Beachy Amish, New Order, Swartzentruber Amish and Andy Weaver Amish, plus at least a half dozen more. There are subgroups and subgroups of the subgroups, each with its own customs, rules and punishments. Some practice it and some don't. Some go "more heavy" into it.

I did a lengthy study of these groups, both for a research paper when working on my master's, and for some publications as a free lancer, and while very interesting, it's not uncomplicated. In the Old Order Amish, there may be hell to pay if a youth returns from a Rumspringa (especially if they have experimented with drugs). Even though this freedom is permitted, the elders are taking a big risk. If the kids decide the Amish life is not for them, then the population may dwindle.

If you're interested, there are excerpts online from an excellent book...

Kate should live among the Amish for a week. Heck, maybe for just one day. She'd never survive. She would know the meaning of the word "exhausted." She'd be Rumspringing out of there before sunset.

I think it is much more likely to be a book about running/cooking. She doesn't spend a lot of time thinking about Jon or custody. Only when it's put before her does she bother with it. Then again, all this is academic as there is not a publisher out there who would pay her for it. Especially considering she'd probably ask for a huge advance.

I wondered that too. I couldn't be the eggs, as we're told they eat dozens of them every week.

It must mean that Katie ran her fingers through her hair, wiped them on her hooker clothes and then proceeded to use them to split the food into tiny portions on paper plates.

My family members insist that I'm obsessed with the Amish-- Guilty! There is an interesting Reality TV series (more of a documentary) out, called "Amish- Out of Order". It's on National Geographic channel, and comes from the same Producers of "Amish in the City"... released several years ago. An interesting watch. We used to joke on another anti-K.I.K. Blog, about 'Beachy Amish' wearing sunglasses!

Pennsylvania's own Katie Irene has been on a personal Rumspringa, since just prior to October 2008... and it's doubtful she's ever coming back. Although in this case, Katie has 'SHUNNED' her entire family, and not the other way around. I can't bear to listen to the radio interview. So over hearing that voice, and more lies.

Kate whining about a $350 vet bill for that poor dog sets my teeth on edge. If she took proper care of that dog in the first place, perhaps he wouldn't be so bored (or so hungry) that he goes after wild animals to supplement his diet. I don't have much extra money in my budget, ever, but I have two cats and I fully accept that I am responsible for keeping them healthy. That means annual check ups, shots, flea treatments, and unfortunately, the occasional surprise vet bill. If I, on my part-time income, can afford it, then Kate can surely afford it too.

Personally, I wish she would find another home for that poor dog.

Re 50 Shades of Gray, and people's private sexual preferences: I believe whatever two consenting adults want to do in the privacy of their bedroom is their business and none of mine :) I try not to judge. I have issues with even the thought of mild restraint due to something in my past that I would rather forget, so I cannot read about it without feeling uncomfortable and upset, but I understand "different stroke for different folks"

I bet it just kills Kate to see so many people in the entertainment industry getting new shows, appearing and being photographed in fabulous places, etc. She so badly wants to be one of them, and deep down she actually believes she's one of them. But they have frozen her out. That whole industry has moved on without including her, and she can't figure it out. She must be tearing her hair out (explains the receding hairline) in frustration. She is left in small-town PA to take care of a pack of kids and clean up dog vomit when she thinks she should be walking red carpets. Her only consolation is reassuring herself that the "haters" must be sooo jealous of her. Just like she so jealous of the REAL stars who get to live the life she wants but can't have. Sad, pathetic, and funny all at the same time.

Sweet Tart said...

I agree Layla - Kate believes those who disagree with her or find fault with her, must simply be jealous. This could be because jealousy and coveting seem to be two primary emotions that have driven Kate over the years. She has repeatedly disparaged her upbringing, so her seeds of discontent blossomed early in life. She always longed for more: more money, more glamour, more fame, more of everything.

I saw that clearly when Beth was her friend. Kate never liked Beth, but she wanted what Beth had. I think she studied Beth and imitated her in many ways. What did Beth wear, what type of car did Beth drive, what sort of luxuries did Beth indulge in, etc. Being shallow, Kate only saw the luxurious perks of Beth's pampered life, and ignored the fact that Beth also had a generous nature and an inherent kindness to her.

The only emotion that Kate can understand from others is the one she knows too well for herself - jealousy. She doesn't have a moral base, so how can she understand that the reason so many of us are outraged by her behavior is because we find it repugnant, wrong, immoral, and/or downright cruel at times? In Kate's mind, it can only be because we're jealous of what she has.

As if I would want her empty, meaningless life. On the outside, maybe people would say I have little, or that my life is mediocre. I work in a small office; I drive a car that is over 10 years old; to make ends meet, I have to buy many clothes secondhand or off eBay; I can only afford one vacation trip a year for my child and me, etc.

But from where I sit, I feel very blessed. I have a loving family, wonderful friends, a steady job, a good boss, a healthy child, a roof over our heads, and a happy home. No, I'm not jealous of Kate and her cold mansion, her empty life, devoid of friends and family, her "best" companion a paid purse-holder.

Spot on, both of you.

While some people wring their hands over the 'what-ifs' (wayward's mother) and obsess over the future ramifications of every decision (Mr. wayward,) Kate is the bi-polar opposite. She doesn't think past "I want it- NOW" She seems to subscribe to the old wives addage of "it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission." Altered slightly for her to mean "It's easier to get what I want now, then try to beg and grift for someone to pay for it/bail me out later."

I just said a few days ago that I didn't think she had the nerve to pull the "I'm struggling" card again, because it was such a blatant slap to those truly going through hard times. Right on cue, she says it again last night.

Kate, if you are struggling, it's your own fault. You don't need a 6,000+ sq.foot house on 24 acres, 100,000k/yr. private school for grade schoolers and 3 luxury vehicles. Just because you have these things, there is no requirement, no law that says you have to keep them. You maintain/presume that it is unthinkable to part with these things, so the ONLY option is that someone HAS give you another high salary no-work job- NOW. Time to put on your big girl thong and face the facts. It's not going to happen. Claiming to "be struggling" from your mansion, on your grifted iPad, after you just got back from a jaunt to the Whole Foods in Devon in your Audi TT sports car, while you left the kids with the nanny, is a sin. Plain and simple. If you have no shame, I will be ashamed for you.

I just discovered the other day that Preesi has kept alot of her Kate info on her site under Misc. Yay!!!!!!!! ;) This info is so valuable because it usually involved the use of public records, you know, sheeple kryptonite. I'm going to link the info they gathered for the refinancing. While DH and I deal with investment properties (real estate that MAKES you money Kate- not bleeds you dry) I am not literate in jumbo loan jargon. The fabulous NLAN deciphered it splendidly at the end of the second page, but I'm not sure how to figure out if Kate pulled 100k out of the refi.

You are so right, Sweet Tart. I have friends who have a small working farm (only 10 acres) and they just recently hosted a family/friends party. Everything is in bloom, their kitchen garden, the large flower garden, the horses were beautiful and their 125 year old victorian farm house was the highlight. They are rehabbing it room by room slowly and very authentically. The kitchen hasnt been touched yet because right now they are living the 1930s era feel of that room.
However my friend said quietly to me "Everyone looks at all this and admires it, but. It. Is. A. Lot. Of. Work." Her lawyer hubby is retired and does it all all all alone, but SHE works full time, nearly 2 hours drive from home and in the winter often gets a hotel room near work and only gets home on weekends.
So yes, I ADMIRE their property and quiet surroundings very much. Am I jealous? Hell, no. Would I want it for myself? Never in a million years. The horses are nice to look at - for 10 minutes and then I am done. That huge old home is stunning, but the daily upkeep is not for me, no thank you.
Kate is like a child, "ooooohhhh pretty shiny! I want it IwantitIwantitIwantitNOW NOW NOW! GIMMEEE! Ok, what's next?" But now she has the 8 shiny kids, the shiny mortgage, the shiny pool and acreage, and she gave no thought to the fact that it would never be just one giant doll house she could walk away from, and her mommy and brothers and sisters and Jon would clean up behind her till she decided she wanted to come back and play with the doll house again. She is still holding her breath and having tantrums over THAT turn of events.

The runners have support teams which follow them every step of the way to ensure they are hydrated and well-cared for in the extreme heat. One slight mistake in Death Valley's triple-digit temperatures can be deadly. The runners' own mental fortitude is their strongest weapon as they push themselves to the limits of human endurance, while battling the very worst weather has to offer.

Badwater Ultramarathon
•Daytime temperatures in 120's
•Nighttime temperatures in 80's and 90's
•Run over 3 mountain ranges for a total of 13,000' ascent
•UV index a '10' every day (highest level)
•Dust devils."

Ya know Katie, i think your thousands of clamouring and begging fans just might 'faithfully require' you to train for this and do it! And WIN of course! I think Kate probably is collaborating with Michelle Brownlow (whose illustrations are good) on some type of kids book. My guess?
Something to do with the Shoka diaries. I really don't think that Kate realizes that she's not going to be able to maintain her current lifestyle with children's books (or any other books for that matter). If she gets a
publisher who will give her an advance she's got to split the advance with the illustrator. With kids books it's all been done. Books from the dog's, cat's and insert your animal of choice here point of view? It's been done. Books to help kids through tough times? It's been done by people actually trained to help kids. Her only "hook" would be to use the kids as the basis of the stories. Writing a children's book? Purely a vanity move to try and get herself back on TV and get noticed. You've got to be a JK Rowling, Stephen
King or James Patterson (who does adult and children's books) to make any type of money.
An interesting read on this subject of children's books

Kate hasn't matured enough to understand the concept of "it looks good on paper".

I wanted to add to all the great posts regarding Kate's claim that she is writing a Children's book and the speculation on the illustrations.

The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators has a website and offers advice.

They posted Top 10 FAQs and one was on illustrations:

Should I get someone to illustrate my picture book before I submit it?

Almost always: no. The editor who purchases your picture book manuscript or the art director at that publishing house will ultimately choose the illustrator. Except in rare circumstances, it is seldom a good idea to collaborate with an illustrator. Illustrators are better off researching the market and submitting their portfolios for assignments. You don't want to illustrate it yourself unless you are a professional. There is also no need to describe the illustrations in your submission. If your manuscript doesn't come to life visually without being explained, then it probably needs work. If the story needs to be told by the illustrations, then mention that briefly in your cover letter. Perhaps include a separate page with annotations for the illustrations (so titled), but you may not want to clutter the main manuscript with explanations.
----

My opinion is that Kate is again thinking "if I wish it, it will happen". Her lame book or whatever she is pretending to write on her "phone?" (got a laugh out of that one) will be a no-go. She is a has-been. Even two years ago, when she still had TLC and a TV show, she could barely sell more than 10,000 books :

http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/kate-gosselins-new-book-bombs-2010294#ixzz210uS8oOk

Kate also could not even fill a bookstore with fans for a book signing. We saw it on film and how she cried to BackPack Boy in the back room refusing to go out to meet the few fans (probably just regular customers) and not being a "Contract Honorer" to the store because, BooHoo, no one came to see her.

She has been off tv for almost a year now. She is no longer in the news/print/media. Writing a book will NOT revive interest in her. The media is done with her. They moved on. No publisher is going to invest in Kate. Even Zondervan is done with her. Actually, I think Zondervan's only interest in Kate would be to ask her for their money back.

Kate is not sellable - she is not sought after - no one is calling. Instead she is the one seeking... and seeking. She couldn't even get enough fans to sign up for her Cruise. She is mocked and criticized relentlessly. Now Kate is left with selling Bella Bars on twitter. Not much for a publisher to believe that any book by "has-been" Kate will even sell 100 copies.

Sad pitiful Kate can tweet all she wants about her dreams about writing books just as she talked about her TLC show "Twist of Kate". And we all know how that one turned out. Ha Ha.

Follow-up to my previous post on Children's books and information on how much someone can make:

http://www.scbwi.org/Pages.aspx/Top-10-FAQs#1

FAQ #10

How much money will I make on my first book?

Writing for the children's book market is seldom lucrative especially with a first book. Though there are always exceptions, for a 32 page picture book, you might expect to split an $8,000-$12,000 advance with the illustrator (the illustrator usually receives a larger advance than the author), then each of you will get 3.5%-6% royalties against your advance (your advance must be earned back before you receive any royalties). Most picture books sell from 5,000-10,000 copies in hardcover and go out of print within two years. Few picture books go into paperback. Easy readers are about the same. The royalties are not split on a novel, so you could receive approximately a $5,000-$8,000 advance against 7-10% royalties. Royalties are usually based on the retail price of the book, however some publishers use a percentage of "net price" which is the price of the book after their discounts and/or expenses are figured in. Read your contract very carefully and get advice on the things you don't understand. Compensation for magazine articles varies widely depending on the publication, its circulation and the type of piece being submitted, but payment usually ranges between $25 - $500. Though not as lucrative, magazines are a great way to build your writing/illustrating credentials and gain publishing experience. Authors and illustrators also supplement their income by doing workshops and school visits.

Kate did not realize the monumental responsibility she purchased. I am surprised she has held on this long.

Dmasy - What I can't understand is why they bought that acreage when they weren't getting along. What was going through their heads? I think Kate was planning on outing Jon before they moved there. She told him she was going to live her own life and he could live his, so how childish were they to make that purchase if neither of them knew a thing about maintaining a property of that size. Re: writing children's books. If I recall correctly, Sarah the Duchess of York was called on the carpet for "borrowing" ideas for her books about Budgie the Helicoptor. Seems she had some repressed memory of a book that was read to her as a small child and when she decided to become and author, those memories are what came to her mind as "creative ideas."

All that to say this: Has Kate G. ever had an original idea? Will we be seeing a story of a young girl whose house got swept away in a flood
and it landed on top of a gremlin, all these furry creatures came out to sing and to direct her on her way down the Green Asphalt Road, where she met a clown, a cowboy and a tiger?
Oh My! And flying bats all around the Gremlin of the South's castle.

Well, at least she'd like the part where the
Gremlin says "My Pretty".

Kate is a Witch said...

Glad you said that, admin. I'm giving two dogs antibiotics twice a day and the puppy is also getting a cough med three times a day and she does NOT like it. It's definitely a struggle, but what am I going to do? Not take care of them? I'm not Kate Gosselin, after all.

This jealousy thing never fails to crack me up and amaze me. She has EIGHT kids, she's divorced, she's unemployed, she's in WAY over her head property-wise and lifestyle-wise (her lifestyle, not the kids so much), she doesn't seem to have friends except paid temporary employees, she looks ten years older than she is, she needs a personality transplant, she doesn't seem to have any relationships with her own family, she's helpless, a liar, a plagiarizer, has no talent, is untrustworthy, rude and almost universally disliked. What, exactly, am I supposed to be jealous of? Can someone please help me with that? Please don't say the house. I could buy her house outright, but I'm not stupid enough to live beyond my means--she is. Please don't say her kids--I'm sure they're lovely, but I never wanted a lot of kids and mine are very nearly grown. No thanks.

And I have an Audi.

So again, I don't see what there is to be jealous of! I don't think she's particularly attractive, to boot, has zero fashion sense, and her voice is like nails on a chalkboard.

Wouldn't trade places with her for anything.

Ex Nurse said...

It took me awhile to gather this info, so if someone else addressed this, apologies.

Regarding Kate's mortgage and the alleged $100,000:
I wrote a long post on that a couple of months ago., but I am going to recheck some calculations, The short answer is yes...and no.

Their first mortgage had a 10 year term, instead of the traditional term of 30 or 15 years. That means that she had accumulated a lot more equity for those years. I'm estimating that, after 4 years, the loan balance on the original $720,000 was around $450,000. Therefore, she had paid down $270,000 over 4 years. When she took out the new loan for $662,000, she actually took out $212,000--not $100,000.

Remember that they made a sizable  down payment on the house. I've read different sales prices, between 1.1 and 1.3 million dollars, so I'll go with the average of 1.2--a down payment of $450,000. Added to the $270,000 in equity, she had paid in $750,000. Since we don't know the appraised value from the bank (different than assessed value for property taxes), we don't know how much value the house lost due to the economy.

Her old payments were around $7,300/month and the new payments are around $3200/month.

So, yes, she may have taken out some equity, but, no, because it was equity that she paid into as opposed to equity resulting from appreciation in value (remember when real estate was an appreciating asset?).

I don't see anything wrong with what she did, from a financial planning aspect and I don't believe that it gives any useful information about her financial state, other than: 1)she isn't under water on her house (it had to have appraised higher than the loan, probably at least 20%, 2) she qualified for the mortgage, either with some kind of income stream (i.e. investments or royalties, or, by assets.  3) Like many, she probably lost some equity due to drops in property value, and, 4) Since the mortgage was taken out just last November,  she is financially stable.

I also believe that she probably has a considerable amount invested for retirement, that she cannot access without incurring an early withdrawal penalty and tax liability. She may very well be cash poor in terms of her day-to-day expenses and extremely wealthy on a net worth basis.--hence the poor/rich  comments depending on whether she is looking at retirement statements or her household checking.

I know there are posters that will disagree with me. I just don't see any indication that her financial state is deteriorating.. Also I am not commenting on whether it was appropriate to buy that property--there is just not enough info for me to even have an opinion.  I live in a part of the country where housing is relatively expensive, so, my point of view is that her property is a bargain. There are just too many variables, ex tax planning or cash liquidity that can explain why her 2nd mortgage was higher than her original mortgage balance.

Everything that Kate does is for a reason that is going to benefit her. So maybe her not mentioning who got the braces, the cut on the head is not because she finally has learned her lesson not to exploit her kids but she is going to use that information to sell future books! Gosh, that woman would sell her kids most private moments for a discount at her local spa!!

OT her twitter fans creep me out! Forget that wacko that tweets her personal stuff, she's a big girl and she should be able to handle that guy. But remember when she mentioned Joel wanting to go to France one of the responses was a guy and he said something like" oh, he's so cute" that made me think "WTH"
why would some grown man think or even care what a kid would say! As a mom that would scare me that some man would think my kid was cute or what he said was cute!

That's why she should keep her kids out of twitter, TV and books no matter how much money she can make! I really do think she is a horrible mother and extremely selfish and egotistical!

They deserve better!

I just read that Rielle Hunter's book sold only 6,000 copies (which was enough to make the New York Times bestsellers list). The low sales are being blamed on Hunter's poor public image. And yet Kate is thinking she's going to get rich again by writing a bunch of books?
The poor public image comment could easily be applied to Kate. Her last book sold just a few thousand more than Hunter's, and her public image (and name recognition) have only gotten worse since. Let's hope this is just a hobby for Kate.
If there is one person II dislike as much as Kate, it is Rielle Hunter. Does this mean Im jealous of Rielle? Nope! I just think she is crazy and pathetic, just like Kate. I'll take my mediocre life over theirs any day, with my 24-year marriage to a guy who still thinks I'm his girl, my multitude of kids who all have had "human glue" applied to their heads--most more than once (and most of whom have had braces and broken off brackets countless times), my furry dogs who wouldn't eat a wild animal for anything--it's much easier to beg off the aforementioned kids--and my psychotically evil cat who rules the roost and makes my large dogs cringe. The kids fight, the dogs bark, the cat scratches, I'm forever pulling dirty socks out from between the couch cushions, and it's all just lovely in my book. Except the dirty socks.

Ex Nurse, thanks for the recalculations.

The confusion comes in that Kate has money for HER day-to-day expenses, but seems to have an empty wallet when the KIDS need something or want something.

I (and probably many here) think the vast majority of that money should be in funds for the 8 children who earned it - NOT in Kate's
retirement accounts.

Ex-Nurse,

Jon and Kate bought the house in October 2008. Kate refinanced in November of 2011. She only had 3 years of equity built up, not four. She would have still owed about 533,000. And she would have had to pay closing costs for the refinance. So, that would have given her $129,000 (662,000-533,000) minus closing costs. Still a nice chunk of change, but not enough to sustain the huge house and huge family long-term. And her property taxes are very high, so her mortgage is much higher than 3200.

I was also thinking about the egg yolk issue, since I dont eat them either due to my gall bladder, I give them to the dogs. But years ago my dear late father in law (a man who hoarded necessities because he grew up poor as dirt during the depression) proudly have me a case of (gulp) powdered eggs. Because I am frugal (not faux frugal like you, Kate) I mixed some with 'real' scrambled eggs, used them in meatloaf, a bit in mashed potatoes, a bit in every casserole I made, used them to make tuna or crab or salmon cakes, added them like crazy to egg mixture for breading, french toast etc. In short, wherever it called for eggs I added a bit of the powdered too. Cant see why that couldnt be done with an extra yolk or two in nearly any dish.

If you were hoping for tips on how to wash the children's bedding with them, you're out of luck.

I think we talked about this back in the day. There are actually very few tickets available for a performer's family and friends. I've heard it's standard to only have six to ten available. Especially since this was a local show for Taylor in PA, I can't imagine Kate would rank anywhere near high enough to warrant getting her ticket comped from Taylor.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

A Munchausen parent does not need to be the direct cause of the illness or injury. The parent may simply be fabricating or exaggerating it...at least that's my understanding of it after watching a television documentary about it. In many cases the parent does cause the illness (poison) or abuse the child physically, but not always:

"Today, many reports of such cases are in the literature. Some mothers invent symptoms, and others induce symptoms (eg, using ipecac to induce vomiting, overdosing a child with medication, lacerating the urethra to produce hematuria). Fabricated symptoms are not observed by anyone other than the mother."

I think Munchausen parents often exaggerate illnesses or make their child sick to induce an illness or will constantly imagine symptoms and make their child go through tests and be frequently dragged to the doctor.

Kate just doesn't seem to fit that pattern. She actually tends to ignore it, downplay it, brush it off when a child is sick or injured.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

By the way I've seen a couple Munchausen cases. They are IMPOSSIBLE to prove. Just impossible. I think because it's so acceptable to be protective and concerned about your child all the time it's hard to draw that line and say well now it's a problem.

There are also a lot of experts who will say it doesn't even exist.

As, I posted earlier: That dog was very sick, and Kate is now tryin to pat herself on the back, for being a good nurse. Yeah, that's:
why you wait a couple of days to take the dog to the vet,
why you waited a day to take one of the twins to the doctor, when she complained of her ankle,
why you waited to take the kids back to the dock at pukefest,
why you waited to do anything about the chicken,
or when one of the boys could not poop,
or the babies waiting to be changed and the one took off diaper and put poop all over crib.

Yeah, Kate just wait, your so busy doing nothing, make the kids wait to have breakfast. Some nursing skills.

Your a real treasure Kate, I would hate to be an elderly person in your house, I would be sick all the time, and starved all the time, no wonder your parents don't come around. But knowing Kate she would put them in a home.

When my dog ate that plant as I posted earlier: she was on meds to keep her from throwing up and meds to make sure the plants poison was cleaned out of her system and special dog food.

The dogs timeline: puked up dead animal,
Kate's drama over cleaning it,
and the 1st rug that had to soak in the bucket,
Kate saying dog ok.
Dog in dog house.
Then next tweet, another rug, hanging outside to dry, drama of it getting wet cause of rain,
then tweetting dog ok,
then dog on soft food,
now dog on meds.
It's like pulling teeth out of her, tryin to get the complete story.
That poor dog was very sick.

Now one of the kids got hurt. Well maybe Kate if you got off your LAZY ASS and actually watched your kids, that might not have happened. Since we don't know how it happened, one guess would be, the kids were fighting, remember, Kate let's them fight it out among themselves, she never intervenes. So who is to say one of the other kids wacked the other one, they have been doing that since they were little, it's on living color DVD. As for the braces, which ever kids it was, if one of the tups, from fighting, or one of the twins, playing with it. Welcome to the real reality Kate.

I rarely if ever feel any urge to defend Kate. But as a mother of 4, not eight, I must say that kids get hurt. They fall off their bikes and break a finger, they fall down the stairs and split a lip and lose a tooth, they fall off the swingset and break a shoulder, or a collar bone. They trip over the curb and smash up a knee or twist an ankle. No matter how well you are watching or how well they get along with siblings and friends, stuff happens and ya feel like the lousiest mother in the world when they are hurt.

The one that broke her shoulder, it was an unusal injury at age 7, it was the 'wing bone' in the back. On the way to the ER I told her that the nurses were going to want to talk to her away from mommy and ask her how it happened and that I would come right back to her side as soon as the talking was over. She kept asking 'why? Did I do something wrong, Mommy?' No, honey they want to make sure mommy didnt hurt you. So when they DID ask me to step out for a second, apparently all she did was giggle and kept saying "my mommy said you might think SHE hurt my shoulder. That is so silly! gigglegiggle." Bless the innocence.

I pretty much agree with that Dwindle, kids are going to get hurt. Par for the course. I thought people were annoyed she was acting like her life is so hard when this happens all the time!

I do think though that when she wrote about one of the kids getting hurt at a very young age because she and Jon were in the garage and the kids were in the house, I raised an eyebrow. Just so Kate knows social services will take your kids away for that here for failure to supervise. You can't leave kids that young alone.

Like Kate is. Like someone said earlier: Jon is not around to watch and take care of those, normal, mediocre, everyday happening that everyone here has dealt with at one time or another, be it child or dog/pet. Kate makes a drama of it, to the point of not really caring, her concern is fake, she makes it like a bothersome chore. Not taking it seriously, until someone is bleeding or at deaths door. Kate falls into the thinking: not my body, not my concern. But Kate: they are your responsiblity, children & dog. These are living things Kate not toys. Children need supervision, which Kate gives to the not hired help/sitter/nanny/friend, or the twins, who like all older kids, and we saw this first hand jealouscy on both shows, probably could care less if the 6 pk, beat each other. Kate causes the drama between the kids.

She had their illnesses filmed. One on the laundry floor, the kids in the fishing boat, vomiting on vacation when she held up the bag. It was for an episode, yes, but it was all about HER. Especially with a head injury as Kate tweeted it was, you are so right!!! I missed whatever was said about when the little boy hit/hurt his head, so I didnt know if she waited? You are correct, there are times you do not wait for any reason, let alone whatever Kate thinks is important!!!

I have been known to wait hours with those nasty looking bruises, elevating, putting on ice etc, only to see in a few hours that things are getting much worse. THAT's when I find out it was broken and I feel awful for making the child wait. Not always of course, and never for a head bump, and never in the case of "Mommymommymommy helpmehelpmehelpme ouchouchouch!" Gives me the shudders just remembering those times and typing the words. When your child is in pain, a mom cant drive fast enough, nor can 911 get there soon enough.

Yes, I do...years of experience. She had backstage passes. These usually are part of the package along with the comped tickets. The production manager leaves them at the Will-Call window. It's not impossible to have passes without tickets, but that's usually the exception rather than the rule.

I don't remember if the kids were backstage at every show, but I think there were pictures of her at one concert with the kids and they were wearing passes.

!!!!!!!!!
Yep--you're right about the 3 years, instead of 4. But my bigger point is that she was paying it off on an accelerated term and therefore had a large equity stake around 50% of the original price. I'm not giving her tons of credit for that, but if the mortgage was a 10 year term, as stated on Preesi's site, then she was on track to own the house in 7 mote years. I know there are people that don't believe in mortgages, but the judgement on this blog on this particular issue is really harsh. Some people live in affordable areas, get financial help, have high-earning jobs or inherit property. most people need mortgages and there is nothing wrong with it. As I said, it is my opinion that there is not enough public information to support all of the assumptions that she in in over her head or that there is no money for school or college. Banks are extremely conservative in lending and she clearly qualified for the mortgage.

People condemned her when they thought she had a big mortgage, then condemn her when it is learned that she put more money into the house.  By taking out cash in the refinance, she simply withdrew the money that had been paid in on an accelerated basis.

I was only addressing the mortgage--of course there are additional expenses and closing costs.

There are so many things to criticize about Kate that are on the public record, I just think it is unnecessary to speculate about her finances. I doubt that the amount of money she has effects her spending on the kids, anyway. She has never felt that the kids are her financial responsibility unless they are generating income. Oh, and she is a greedy, stingy succubus, too.

Münchausen by proxy requires an element of either making up a child's illness or grossly exaggerating symptoms

**************************************

It actually requires that the parent inflict illness on child. An easy example is feeding a child syrup of ipecac to make them vomit then taking them into ER for attention and telling story that you have no idea why the child is vomiting.

The parent gets attention for being 'good mom' who brings her kid in for medical care. The parent loves that.

The vomiting stops, kid is discharged and 'mysteriously' becomes ill again and again. Mom has been giving kid something to make him vomit.

I worked in pediatric ICU for a while and some of the things the Münchausen by proxy parents did to their children was horrific.

The difficulty lies in proving the parents completed an overt act to cause the illness in question.

One of the differential diagnosis tools is to remove the child from the parent, as in placing them in hospital setting and preventing parent from visiting. If the child gets better without parental interference it can be inferred that Münchausen by proxy might be a viable diagnosis.

This is usually seen with small children who are not able to verbalize what has happened, what mommy has done, etc.

It's an insidious and despicable crime, although some call it a mental illness.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Permanent Name how often did you see Münchausen out of curiosity? It's talked about so much and it's so fascinating but I've only ever seen it a couple times in family law and it could never really be proven.

Permanent Name said...

It is rare, and you are right, it's very hard to prove. Without seeing the parent harm the child, it's just presumption based on lack of illness when child is removed from parent.

I think I saw it twice in 20 years of clinical nursing. One patient was mine and nothing was proven. Child, 2.5 years, was hospitalized three times over 3 months with different symptoms each time. Once was vomiting (easy to induce), once with 'odd rash' that was presumed to be skin contamination with fiber glass, and once with cardiac symptoms that could have been induced with grandparent's cardiac med.

Each time child recovered inpatient and was sent home. Third time child protective services was called by pediatrician. They removed child from home and she was healthy for 1 year and returned to parent. By that time she was talking and was able to rat out her mom, so mom quit.

Interestingly, a few years later the mom had another kid (younger sibling) go through the same scenario. Stupid mom. She kept the same pediatrician. There was a court hearing and she lost custody.

Another sad case was 3 yr old little girl who drank lye from coke bottle. Story was mom had it ready to throw at her boyfriend. She went out, left the kids home alone, little girl drank from bottle. Her esophagus was destroyed.

She lived in our unit for 18 months before she died. During that time it came out that mom gave her the bottle to drink because she wanted her to stop crying. I still remember her name.

So to answer your question, it's rare. Two patients I had, and another one a colleague cared for, also not proven.

All not proven because there was no witness to the act.

Permanent Name said...

Cases like that, and pediatric cancer patients were too much afte 10 years. They simply sucked the life out of me. I had burnout bad!

Went on to labor/delivery and NICU. Didn't have any abuse cases to deal with there.

Followed that up with 10 years of cinical pharmaceutical research.

Nursing is a very stressful job. Seeing suffering every day is hard enough, but to witness what horrors parents can visit upon their children is devastating.

There are some sick parents out there. They should never have been allowed to breed.

Harsh words, but nurses, police and family lawyers know what goes on. Some people are just not cut out to be parents. (I guess that is a more political way of saying they shouldn't be allowed to breed).....

kart doesn't have any clinical indicators of Münchausen by proxy.

She gets her kicks from being a 'stah'.

By definition, Münchausen by proxy parents love the one-on-one attention they get from medical staff and seek it out.

kart has some kind of social dysfunction that inhibits her interacting spontaneously and effectively. She couldn't garner sympathy if she tried.

The greenish tint to her skin, as I mentioned before, has to do with the type of indoor lighting and the green/blue hue of her dress reflecting off her face. It's a photography problem.

Regarding Kate's photos from the radio "co-hosting" (ha) gig the other day, I think Kate's hue is due to the lighting and lack of white balance. I think she looks... not so good. Skinny does not always mean "hot" or beautiful. I was trying to think of what is going on with Kate's face, especially comparing it to the photo on Gosselin Book's site, where she looked truly pretty, even through the crocodile tears.
And then it hit me--Kate's face looks like a skull shrink-wrapped in skin.

Tucker's Mom -- West Wing is/was the best TV I have ever watched. I own the DVD's and re-watch favorite episodes on rainy, house cleaning days.

I did not know that the screen play for Social Network was written by Sorkin. I rented the movie in a hotel room. First scene, in the bar, with the bright young lady I recognized the style and just grinned. I knew I was in for a good dialogue time!

Another Aaron Sorkin/Newsroom fan here! Haven't decided if I like it as much as West Wing - at times it seems a bit too frantic. But the premise, and Jeff Daniels, will keep me watching. Hope there's more than one season, it may be that it just needs to settle down and find itself!

I could not believe she uttered one word about Elizabeth Edwards in that interview.
******
Rielle Hunter makes my skin crawl, but she and "Johnny" deserve each other for these past few years. It seems though, that Edwards has had a bit of a Come-To-Jesus moment with his trial and having his daughter by his side. Apparently they are no longer an item and good for the lawyer daughter for (reportedly) telling her dad that "it's either her or me".
I remember Hunter's interview with Oprah, where she tried to out-Oprah Oprah. Hunter talked about her "spiritual path" when asked if she had any regrets (for pursuing a married man with a family and a wife with terminal cancer). Hunter voiced none. She sounded like an ass. Only an ass would give that answer. Oprah wasn't buying it either.
Hunter's magazine layout in panty-peeping poses was a pathetically desperate attempt to get attention from her Johnny. Didn't work.
She needs to go back to wherever she crawled out from. I'm glad her press junket was a major fail.

I just got an HBO package for a song because Charter is restructuring all its plans. I'm enjoying it. I've heard mixed reviews on Newsroom I may give it a try since folks here like it.

I have to highly recommend GIRLS though. The writing is phenomenal. And the gal that produces, stars, directs and writes it is only 26 years old.

Kate took wire-cutters to her child's braces?? Yikes ! Hope she 'requires' the kid to get to the orthodontist pronto, if she can find her way to Reading- isn't that where their ortho is- and the radio station? ( sorry, don't know the local geography)

Harsh words, but nurses, police and family lawyers know what goes on. Some people are just not cut out to be parents. (I guess that is a more political way of saying they shouldn't be allowed to breed).....

&&&

Yes. I used to be the kind of person that thought the best in people and felt like crime and abuse and bad things were exaggerated and sensationalized.

I wouldn't say I'm jaded now, but I've definitely had my eyes opened to an entire other world where things go on you wouldn't believe. Sometimes I feel like it's sort of an underworld going on.

Jane, was she? That's great! I love at the end of the episodes she talks about her inspirations. I love seeing young writers develop like that. I think so many can relate to that time in your life where you just graduated college and want to take on the world and it's all a bit harder and more confusing than you expected.

I love that episode where she's had enough with the games from her guy friend. It was just so real and sincere the way she delivered those lines: "I’m not asking anything. I don’t even want a boyfriend I just want someone who wants to hang out all the time, and thinks I’m the best person in the world, and wants to have sex with only me."

I do not think Kate has Munchausen by Proxy. This is a report of a case that played out in San Antonio several years ago.

Warning...this is long and repetitious, but describes how the mother wanted attention for her care of her sick children.

http://www.abysse.info/caseacct4.html

She pleaded guilty to four counts of child endangerment and was sentenced to 32 years but that was reduced to 10 years on appeal. She was released from prison in Dec. 2007. I couldn't find any later information.

What happened to being modest, showing no skin? Wasn't that something she was fussing about on DWTS? That her dresses needed to be "modest" because she was a "mom"?

So.....she's not a mom anymore?

Aggie - condolences for your loss and congratulations on your new arrival.

Your name always reminds me of a joke my tx husband tells. Apologies in advance :)
This should be read with a long Texas drawl...

An Aggie went Skydiving and at the moment he was to pull the cord, he panicked and forgot what to do. He was falling down, down, down... Fortunately, he met another Aggie on his way up. So, he yelled out, "Say, do you know anything about parachutes?". And the other Aggie hollered back, No! Do you know anything about butane stoves"?

Bada Bing!!! Please forgive my horrible punctuation. Typing on an iPad and having a hard time correcting.

KK's skin may have a green tinge to it. Given her "diet", she may be anemic, and anemia can cause the skin to take on a greenish tinge. In the old days, it used to be called "the green sickness". Or, as someone upthread pointed out, it may be the lighting/reflection from the green in her dress. Some skin tones tend to pick up the color being worn. Mine's like that. I rarely wear yellow, because it makes me look like I'm in an advanced stage of liver failure.

Dang, I wish I got HBO! I loved "The West Wing" and would love to see "Newsroom". Guess I'll have to wait 'til it comes out on DVD.

Aggiemom -- Sorry to hear about your loss, but congratulations on your first grandchild. Have fun spoiling her! Love the name your daughter and SIL picked out.

Saw the TLC promo of "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" again. (August 8)

The ad shows 6 members of the family jiggling their bare (generous) bellies. I guess in support of little Honey.

It is embarrassing. I don't know how to say this without being cruel, but there is some genetic misfire going on in that household.

TLC seems to have given up any pretense of being a "learning" channel.
------------------------------------
I saw it , too and I was going to post here and share my FACEPALM moment because I knew you guys would understand, LOL!
You are so right- something is sooo off in that household. I have noticed that America, on television anyways, seems to have a fascination with redneck, backwoods, hillbilly, swamp...etc. So I think TLC just tried to do a crossover of Toddlers and Tiaras with a redneck show. I will refrain from stating my true impression of that family, you know the old saying, the one your mom taught you, but good-ness, really, TLC?? I don't see that show lasting too long. At least the other shows, Swamp People, Duck Dynasty, Mountain Men, have likable, knowledgeable folks, who just happen to have accents.

Permanent Name - Many, many years ago, I remember seeing a story about Münchausen by Proxy on a nightly news magazine like 20/20 or Dateline. I don't remember all the details, but in brief, it was about how they suspected a mother of having the syndrome. They couldn't prove she was harming the child, so they set up a surveillance camera in the child's hospital room. Sure enough, they caught the woman on tape suffocating the child then calling out for help. There was a very similar case just recently in Minnesota, I believe.

It must have been incredibly difficult for you at times to work so many years in pediatric ICU. It takes very special people to be nurses (you-know-who notwithstanding), and those who help children going through extreme trauma are particularly extraordinary.

aggiemom - I am so sorry for your loss. I'm glad your new grandchild is bringing you such great happiness.

Yeah, it's kind of scary isn't it. One glance at that family's pedigree chart would probably show that Honey boo boo's mommy and daddy are direct blood relatives of each other, if you get my drift.

Tiger Lily -- welcome. $$$, you are probably right. Looks as if they might need some and would settle for a low ball contract.

Mary Ann -- I had the exact thought. Kate has to be asking herself why TLC would invest in the Boo-Boo family and not want her much classier self. She has to feel insulted!

So sorry for your loss. May your family member rest in peace. I lost my husband in 2005 and then lost my youngest son in 2007. He was 33 . He broke both legs in a fall and was in icu for 10 days and then we lost him. I still cry for him everyday. He left a darling little boy behind and I thank God for him everyday. God bless your new baby grandaughter.

Admin. I agree with you, some women should not have children. I would never say that in public because there are people who would think otherwise! But I also believe women should not breast feed their kids in public, GROSS, but I guess I'm just old school!!

Mel I think her modesty on DWTS was a gimmick! If she would be on for the All
Stars she is going to be very different. She will probably go with her new image and wear a dress with the front coming down to her knees!! She's gotta keep those creepy guys coming to her twitter!

I was going to change women breast feeding their kids to babies but aren't their women who breast feed their 5 year old kids! Maybe I'm not old school just plain old!! Things have really changed , maybe to fast???

Cruisin Just As Fast As She Can Now said...

Cruising but does that mean they were comped? I know lots of people who have gotten backstage passes for various concerts but they didn't come from the talent themselves.

=====

You can get passes from people who know people (are the luckiest people in the world!), but in my experience, ultimately they come from production or the performer themselves. The way it usually works is that the performer, if you know them, says to come to the show, tickets and passes will be at the Will Call window. You might already have purchased your ticket, so they will just leave the passes there. Production will put you on the guest list to have you approved by the performer. The venue sets aside so many comped tickets for the performer and band members for their guests. Sometimes there are more requests for comped tickets than the venue has set aside. In this case, you're probably out of luck unless the performer says to come and watch the show from backstage. Passes from a performer, if you know them, are often a bit easier to get than the tickets if the show is sold out. That said, however, I recently talked to someone who said they have been trying for 15 years to get passes to a show and haven't been able to do so and asked if I can help.

Sometimes a venue will run a VIP package which includes admittance to a sound check, CD, shirts, bags, etc. VIP Nation online offers these in limited numbers. They include passes to a backstage meet and greet. These are not inexpensive and sell out very quickly despite the cost.

In Kate's case, I doubt if she bought the tickets and asked for passes. My guess is that she was comped for the tickets and passes, either directly from the performer or from one of her reps who assured her that she'd have the passes.

Auntie -- LOL! This reminds me of a quote from Roseanne when she finds out Darlene got pregnant at Disney World:

"Not only are we going to have a grandchild roughly around the age of our own kid, but our daughter is marrying the boy we thought of as our own son. I think that officially makes us THE white trashiest people in ALL the land!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Agree with your first comment, disagree strongly with the second! If done discreetly, what is wrong with feeding a hungry baby in a public place rather than a dirty old restroom or go back to the car? I do not agree with the moms who choose to nurse till age 5, but I guess it's a personal choice.
JMO. Why do you think it's gross- just curious.
