Listen to the full interview here. It is embarrassing. I don't know how to say this without being cruel, but there is some genetic misfire going on in that household.
TLC seems to have given up any pretense of being a "learning" channel.

It really is sad how many people are out there willing to humiliate and embarrass themselves, all for the chance to be on television. I cannot imagine either of my parents agreeing to or allowing any such behavior to be filmed for national television. What has happened to having some dignity? A touch of class? A general sense of pride in oneself?
I haven't seen the commercials since TLC has been banned from my household for at least 2 years now. Sounds like I'm not missing anything!

So sorry for your loss. May your family member rest in peace. I lost my husband in 2005 and then lost my youngest son in 2007. He was 33 . He broke both legs in a fall and was in icu for 10 days and then we lost him. I still cry for him everyday. He left a darling little boy behind and I thank God for him everyday*******
Mary Ann, I'm so sorry. There's not a day that goes by here when I'm not touched by at least one of you. I wish you strength and joy.
I wonder if you've read "To Heaven and Back"? by Mary C. Neal, MD. She was on the Today Show this morning, talking about her near-death experience when she was kayaking and almost drowned... for at least 15 minutes.
Her story gave me chills and for an analytical surgeon to describe Angels, Jesus and a great sense of belonging, it tells me that she really went through all of the scientific explanations before coming to the conclusion that she truly did experience Heaven.
She said that the Angels told her that her time was not up and that she needed to go back because her family needed her and that her little son would die. He did, at age 19.
Anyway, it gave me comfort that she was positive that she'll see her son and all loved ones one day.
Here's the link:

Sweet Tart -- that was my comment about the genetic misfire. Sounds harsh. I feel bad for thinking it, but ....
The promo also shows some kind of jumping in a mud hole competition. While the majority of the family willing agrees that they are rednecks, one daughter denies that label because they each have all their teeth. Honey Boo Boo is her same confident self.
Couldn't agree with you more Sweet Tart! In the end will the money and television exposure be worth it? I'm sure Kate would say ABSOLUTELY!!!
Some people should not be parents, and neither should some sheeple be pregnant if they have to rely on Kate for advice:

Kate took wire-cutters to her child's braces??
_____________________________
What??
I took her tweet to mean a wire from the braces got stuck in carpet and she needed wire cutter to get wire out of carpet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ohhh!! You're probably right although even that is weird! I just was remembering when my dd got hers stuck to her sweatshirt as she was changing and had to be cut free- the cloth, not the braces ! But knowing Kate... lol. But I'll 'cut' her some slack on this, ok. Thanks Tweet.
Why can't these people pick up a phone and call their doctor when they are sick? Turning to twitter for help is so weird.
According to Kate's tweet today, the dog did get sick. I wonder how long she waited to take him to the vet. Someone responsible needs to adopt that dog. Now.
KK's skin may have a green tinge to it. Given her "diet", she may be anemic, and anemia can cause the skin to take on a greenish tinge. In the old days, it used to be called "the green sickness".
-------------------------------------------------
I saw a show about someone with a green tinge to them - well maybe a bit more than a tinge. Turns out he had a heart that was two sizes too small. That might explain this phenomena.
Cruisin - Kate's advice would be to go on bedrest for the remainder of the pregnancy and get someone to wait on her hand and foot. Worked for her anyway.
My kids didn't have braces so I'm not familiar with all that can go wrong, but her tweet is still weird. If a wire from the bracket ended up in the carpet I'd think a pair of pliers might be used to pull it out. That is IF you could even see it. But how that rates as something to complain about is what really blows me away...removing a piece of wire from the carpet????
All her tweets just confirm, for me, that she did nothing while the show was being filmed for all those years. She gets flustered over every small thing. Of all the people on the planet who should NOT have had a bunch of kids, it's Kate.
Mary Ann - I am so sorry for the terrible losses you have endured. I wish you peace and hope you find great comfort in the love you have for your son's little boy.
But I also believe women should not breast feed their kids in public, GROSS, but I guess I'm just old school!!
====
I guess it's how it's done in public that helps form an opinion. Some moms breastfeed so discreetly you wouldn't know it, and others bare it all. Either way, it doesn't bother me to see it. But b/f a five-year-old in public? eewww.
I walked past a mom in a restaurant once who was sitting there soaking her dinner napkin in a glass of beer and then putting it in her baby's mouth to suck. That bothered me a lot and I said so. She told me to mmob.
Tweet:
I know- if it could be seen you'd think you could even just pick it up..that's different than the braces ON the child being stuck to the carpet, lol, but that's possible with braces !
My dd had a chain attached to one bracket for a tooth that wouldn't grow it (stuck in the roof of her mouth) She had to 'get her chain yanked' every 4 weeks and retied, painful.
Either way Kate's child needs to get the broken bits repaired- you can get your gums cut up pretty badly with broken braces and also your lips.
Admin...8, I know! Asking for retweets is weird, too. What does that accomplish? Twitter seems to be pretty weird all around, or maybe I'm just old. Probably both.
Cruisin - Kate's advice would be to go on bedrest for the remainder of the pregnancy and get someone to wait on her hand and foot. Worked for her anyway.
==========
Or to lie on the laundry room floor so she won't mess up the bed, furniture and carpets.
I do not think it is gross for a woman to breast feed her baby in public!
I've never seen someone 'bare it all', most of the new moms I know have bought (or made) very cute cover-ups.
AuntieAnn:
That's bizarre about the beer & the baby! I'm glad you spoke up.
I breastfed both my kids discreetly in public and was asked to go to the public bathroom in a mall only once which I refused to do.
I did have a friend who nursed her 5 year old brat , er, daughter, anytime, anywhere, under a 'tent' thing. She used only one breast, though, causing a great discrepancy in size, lol. Said the other one was for her husband. I know, TMI!
Wow, now Kate's recommending the woman ask for a specific medication for nausea! She should have just told the dimwit to ask her dr all by herself, geez.
"that's different than the braces ON the child being stuck to the carpet, lol,"
Viewer, Kate might actually like that. One less child to feed, stress over.
Oh god sheeple please just call your doctor. Meds can be so dangerous during pregnancy. I'm surprised Kate also didn't recommend to have multiples.
Bitter end #10
Ain't that the truth - lol
===============
...apparently the sheeple doesn't have the brains to THINK to ask the doctor herself. She needs Kate to do this?
Is there an IQ requirement for sheeple? I mean, if your IQ is over a certain number you can't be admitted into the flock? They seem to attract the dumbest of the dumb. Why is that?
When did she become Dr. Kate Gosselin ob/gyn? Her sheeple come to her like she's an oracle... "Speak oh Great One".
Scary stuff.
Why do her stories never make any sense?!?
I don't understand her braces story at all. I had braces, I had brackets fall off. I think it's pretty rare. In a year of having braces, I lost brackets once. When they were being put on. The first set of brackets had a deformity and would not hold the wire so they popped right off. I had to come back to get a different set.
Even if you lose one bracket, you still have all the other brackets that would still be holding the wire in. I could see loosing a bracket, but I don't get how you would also lose the wire in order for it to get stuck in the carpet! Even if all the brakets popped off, the wire would still be in the end anchors and those are cemented on!
Well, I sure hope that Kate is going to be tweeting away at the dentist office today! Good heavens!
Oh, and I really hope that she pulls that stick out and puts it to use at the sliding door. Duh, then the dog wouldn't be able to get out.
Tuckers Mom, thank you for the link to the book. I will download it today to my reader. The entire family was with him on the last day before they took him off of the respirator. Michael was heavily sedated but he opened his eyes and looked way up high to the left, then up high to the right and then closed his eyes for the last time. I believe he was seeing God and his own Dad waiting for him. I had to leave the room when they took him off I just could not bear to watch my son take his last breath and that haunts me still today. I should have been there. Maybe this book will help me to deal. Thanks for caring.
No. Color correction in photoshop type software
is nothing more than a filter that filters out one color using another color. The color corrected photo of Kate has had the green filtered out using a red filter. That is why the other girl with more normal looking skin tone looks "bronze" now. Using color correction in this way is merely a band aid to fix a photo with a problem.
If a professional photographer had taken that shot he would have probably NOT shot it under those particular lights (whatever they may be). Believe me, it's about photography, not that Kate has green skin.
I think the sheeple have taken notice that Nurse Ratched jumps at the chance to answer medical questions. It's pretty much a guarantee to get a response from her.
Look Kate, dogs don't have thumbs and while they are pretty darn clever, you CAN outwit them on a regular basis if you try. Lock the stupid doors, you moron! That way, Shoka won't get out in the rain or the cold.
I think Kate's just blowing smoke up her tweeties' arses about Shoka getting out. She lets him out. That dog is more out than in.
Again, she should not have that dog. If she is incapable of securing the dog safe and sound in her house, then she's too dumb to own him. Period.
Mady sure has become the Golden Child, hasn't she? I've been learning about narcissists and golden children for years by reading here and at Werny's site and it's prescient how Mady has emerged just as predicted.
I really think some of the "dumb" questions are coming from people who are yanking Kate's chain.
If they do that enough, her tooth might not come in but the stick might drop out.
I think many of them are playing her and she does not have a clue.
My breast feeding opinion is not towards women covering up. Of course you can breast feed(covered) the baby has to eat! I'm talking about taking out your big boob out at a resturant and feeding! I have seen it and it's not pretty!
Let me give you an analogy , what if a gorgeous couple sitting at a table next to you at a resturant , rip off their clothes and have sex! Some might say sex is a beautiful thing! Yea! At your own home! Pleeeeese, I don't want to see that , that's a personal thing that should stay private!
I don't care how hot looking you are, keep it covered!
Just my opinion!!
Admin - I agree. Anyone can buy Zofran at the Drugstore. You don't even need a prescription for it. For Kate to even suggest an over the counter drug to a stranger who is pregnant via Twitter is so dangerous even if she did add "ask your doctor".
Her ONLY response should have been "Ask your doctor". And maybe add "what is wrong with you that you are asking for medical advice on Twitter?"
Guess I have never seen someone take out their big boob at a restaurant, seems unusual to me.
I do think there is a big difference between a baby breastfeeding and a couple having sex (even if the breast was exposed) - a VERY BIG difference in my opinion.
I think woman should be encouraged by society TO breastfeed and not be made ashamed of it, even if there is some occasional boobage. Very easy to look away and/or explain to children.
Interesting choice of American subset culture for your masters. I would have loved it! I studied first generation children of Holocaust survivors and it was an emotionally draining subject matter. Such pain carried for generations...
Dwindle. I cheated a bit because I already had a decent knowledge of the sect. It was either research on the Amish or a paper on the critical analysis of Margaret Mead's study of sex among the adolescents in the South Pacific (Coming Of Age In Samoa). I couldn't relate to that!
No idea why my comment posted twice, my apologies!
I'm in agreement with the opinion that Shoka would not be opening the sliding door if KATE LOCKED THE DAMN DOOR. I'm pretty sure that she is also capable of drilling it into her kids heads, if they leave the door unlocked.
Zofran's not available over-the-counter. To be sure, I checked with my local CVS. It's a great drug for chemo nausea and I have heard it's used for severe morning sickness - the kind where the mother's losing weight instead of gaining. For Kate to recommend ANY drug is just so wrong, unconscionable really.
I had morning, noon & night sickness for 4 mos. with 3rd DS. I was prescribed Phenergran (sp?) Like Jane above said, it was only given after I began losing weight.
Wasn't there some morning sickness drug ages ago that causes horrible birth defects?? Any drug you put in your body however benign should be discussed with your doc if you're pregnant this is just common sense.
I think that was Thalidomide - which is now used very successfully as a treatment for those with multiple myeloma.
Hi Tomatoes & Viewer,
So many different views here :) My son nursed until 6.5 years. The older years were not intense like the younger ones. I know people really find that odd at best, but so many other cultures do it without batting an eye. One thing I did do, though, is nurse in private after a certain age. It felt respectful to him and the to the culture we live in. He did nurse some or after his many medical procedures, and I was thankful to be able to give him something to help him through nutritionally and emotionally. I wish the mother who did the magazine cover with her 7 yr old hadn't done that - IMO it really violated his privacy and set him up for a lot of ridicule.
Anyway, this blog always has such interesting side discussions!
I think that was Thalidomide - which is now used very successfully as a treatment for those with multiple myeloma.
==============
Yes, it was Thalidomide, used in the late 50s, early 60s. Billy Joel referenced "children Of Thalidomide" in his song, "We Didn't Start The Fire." Even a single dose can cause birth defects or death to the baby.
Right, as mentioned it was Thalidomide. Horrible defects.
Kate is doling out information without knowing or even seeing this person and it is way, way outside of her scope. She is risking losing her license. Is her ego really that in need of bolstering?
What if she told someone to take a medication and they became ill or worse?
It's a dangerous game she's playing.
Sorry, but when your kid asks for your boob, that's too old for me. I nursed both of mine, btw. And sometimes in public discreetly. Better than a smelly ladies room.
I have come to the conclusion that Kate is just a full-blown idiot. She tweeted how Shoka manages to get out:
@MiloandJack @msgoody2shoes21 flips lock up, uses nose to slide door open... It's an amazing site! Or is that sight? I know it's the latter!
So she actually sees him do this, and does nothing about it? Did it ever occur to her to get a different type of lock or have the lock replaced at a level where he can't reach it?
Also, does she even think that if he opens the door and gets out, that someone else can get in once the door is unlocked?
Didn't Kate once say that Shoka was "fully" trained when he returned. What happened to that training?
Shoka apparently isn't the one who needs training-Kate needs to be trained in how to be a dog owner.
I agree, butterfly! Why is that so interesting to people? I moved to sort of a redneck area after living in a college town. It was a bit of culture shock. The thing about rednecks (at least how it comes across to me) is that they just don't care. They don't care if someone thinks they look trashy, or act obnoxiously. There's no sense of social graces, and that's just how they're brought up. The principal at my daughter's school has been told to f-off by more than one redneck parent just for trying to maintain some order to the flow of traffic. And yes, this parent said it right in front of their child. I was horrified! When adults can't set the standard for civilized behavior, what hope do the kids have?
Hope everyone is safe and recovering from the storms that rolled through the northeast yesterday. The weather was brutal! A beautiful gazebo along with many old and towering trees were destroyed in a park near my house and there's extensive damage everywhere. Listening to the weather news across the country, it seems that so many are either experiencing drought or torrential rains. And did I hear that this is the warmest summer on record, so far?!
Seriously, though, with a child age six or seven, how do you nurse? Isn't he too big to hold in your arms as you would an infant or young toddler? It just seems so awkward (physically).
Luckily for the G kids Khate is just too damn lazy to ever display the signs of Munchausen By Proxy. And I'm not sure she could stand all the attention the sick child would get, even though she would be getting attention as well.
------------------------------------------------
Katie read your post and came up with a story about the lock not providing a solution.
My dog could operate an unlocked sliding door too. My kids seemed incapable of locking the door so I can understand the issue. However I don't believe the dog can operate the lock.
Even if the dog can unlock the door, it comes with a vertical locking pin which is attached to the door and fits into a slot in the door frame. If the door is not aligned to the pin, the solution is to place a 1x2 piece of wood horizontally to prevent the door from sliding.
What you need to do, Katie is slip on the hooker heels and hoof on down to the home center with a measurement for the size of the opening and ask Mr. Lumber Cutter guy to cut the piece. Keep in mind that you will need to pay for the entire piece of wood - including the length you do not need (require in your language).
If you don't know where the home center store is either ask the police for an escort or go down to the tractor store and ask Mr. Tractor Wheel guy for directions.
Just when you thought there was nothing on television these days, there is great news.
Pete Rose is getting his own reality show.
Better yet, the 71-year-old Rose and his 30-something fiancée, Kiana Kim, a former Playboy model, are getting their own five-episode reality show on The Learning Channel, the same high-brow channel that brought us "John Hates Kate" or "Kate is Eight" or that similarly-titled reality train wreck of a series.
Read more here: http://www.kentucky.com/2012/07/18/2263202/clay-a-pete-rose-reality-show.html#storylink=cpy
I got a chuckle from it. :)
Just read the tweet about the dog being able to unlock the slider and open the door with his nose. Okay Kate, there is a real simple, cheap solution. After you close and lock the slider, put a thin piece of board or even an old broom handle in the track. That way even if Shoka unlocks the slider, he won't be able to slide the door open. Are you that stupid or just plain lazy?
See, the thing is, Kate mentioned before about Shoka opening the door. A year or more ago. We TOLD her how to solve the problem. Did she listen? Clearly not. She never does. She reads here and then pretends she never heard of us. And she continues to have the same problem.
====
Agreed. AND she could have taken Shoka to a actual trainer to be taught not to chase after and eat other critters. Did she? Nope. Shoes and hair salons are her priorities.
What if that animal he ate had been poisoned? Did she think about that? Again, no.
Sorry for the duplicate post. It was telling me that it wasn't published. It lied!
My experience re: nausea medication for morning sickness. My husband and I were living in Scotland when I got pregnant with my oldest daughter. I weighed 120lbs. when I find out I was pregnant. I endured horrible morning sickness for a month. I vomitted 24/7. I coulnd't keep down tea, saltines, ginger ale or even water. My poor husband didn't know what to do. I didn't want to take any medication (I don't even like taking a Tylenol for a headache) but after losing 10lbs. the doctor said either I take the morning sickness medication or he would admit me to the hospital and hook me up to an IV. I opted for the medication. When I was about three months along and felt much better, I came home for a two month visit. I visited an obstetricion(sp?) here and gave him my records. I can't for the life of me remember what my doctor in Scotland had me take. Anyway the doctor here proceeded to scare the sh?t out of me by telling me the medication I took was banned in the States. I went back to Scotland at five months pregnant and talked to my doctor there about what my doctor in the States said. My doctor assured me that the medication was fine. Sure enough my daughter arrived healthy and strong. However, my attempt at breastfeeding was another matter as my milk never came in. After 2 1/2 weeks of her screaming because she wasn't getting anything and supplementing her with formula, I was advised by the mid-wife and my doctor to put her on formula full time. She then became a happy, little tubba wubba. I felt guilty as hell but she was healthy so I got over it. I do have to say though that the nice thing about delivering a baby in Britain, is that a mid-wife comes to your house every day for two weeks after you bring your baby home. If you have any questions or issues, the mid-wife being there is wonderful.
So Mady knows she tweets her 'private' stuff. Mady always was one to mug for the camera when she was in the mood and need attention so maybe this new favoritism is not so unexpected...is there a reason though Hannah has fallen from grace? Just wonderin'
Re: breastfeeding older kids. I think that magazine cover and interview did not do breastfeeding any favors. The mom was cute, and her breast was partially shown in the photo, and the position... odd. Voyeuristic sort of. The child in the interview seemed rude and demanding. Tess, if your son had been ill a lot of course there are exceptions IMO- I'm sure you would not pose for that cover but as you said, you give you and your child privacy. My friend who b/f till her dd was age 5 did it but seemed coerced/controlled by it. I guess every case is different..there's no magical age cut-off.
I think the heat must be affecting Milo. Not long ago she tweeted that she could walk three miles without her cane. Now she can do about a half mile. She is annoyed that she can't run with the Chicago sheeple. Why couldn't she go and just meet up with all of them (maybe at the finish line) after the race. I'm sure Kate would make an exception and allow her to attend the meet and greet, or whatever it is.
"Kate's using a sparkly new phrase to help bolster her credibility."
"No lie" is one of Kate's favorite phrases along with "honestly". It sounds like people have a tendency not to believe her so that's why she says these things.
Same old, same old on twitter. Sheeple praising Kate. Kate kissing up to Roma Downey. Kate mentioning bella bars.
The Bitter End said...What you need to do, Katie is slip on the hooker heels and hoof on down to the home center with a measurement for the size of the opening and ask Mr. Lumber Cutter guy to cut the piece. Keep in mind that you will need to pay for the entire piece of wood - including the length you do not need (require in your language).
If you don't know where the home center store is either ask the police for an escort or go down to the tractor store and ask Mr. Tractor Wheel guy for directions.
I think it's cool when people have different opinions! That's what makes life and blogs like this interesting ! I want to hear your opinion whether we agree or disagree, as a matter of fact some of my friends think like me and some don't .
Is it me or is Kate talking more and more about cute things her kids say or about Shoka? Hmmmm , maybe she's setting up the scenario for future books!
Oh, I just want to say one more thing about the baby breast feeding . I actually witness that last week and the baby was sooooooo cute, big boob not so much!
I have to respond to this:
In the U.S. we have a capitalistic healthcare system, companies make ridiculous profits off our sickness and the gov't approves of this. It is EXTREMELY difficult to get a drug pulled from the market. It is ALSO extremely difficult to get a COMPETING drug on the market.
In other countries that have socialized healthcare, the gov't is answerable to the people, not the drug companies. They are MORE likely to pull drugs from the market, require fewer vaccines and have a better track record of wellness then the U.S. does. Because healthcare matters, not drug sales.
I would trust the doc in Scotland re medication before I would trust a U.S. doc re medication.
P.S. Vaccines are a goldmine for big pharma. When a new one becomes available, ask yourself: IS THIS DRUG NECESSARY? or is it simply a moneymaker. My own gyn (whom I love) has said flat out gardisil is a waste in the U.S. He added that it should be given to women in third world countries as they do not have access to any healthcare, and it would help them. But to women in the U.S.? It's a joke. And now they are marketing it to little boys. Sickening.
Wasn't there some morning sickness drug ages ago that causes horrible birth defects??
When I was pregnant in 78 and 79 I got Bendictin for morning sickness. Later it was said to cause birth defects and they quit prescribing it. It worked great though. My kids were lucky and never had any problems.
Article from the Chicago Tribune re Kate running the mini marathon on Sunday. Seems like they did a phone interview with Kate.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/celebrity/aboutlastnight/chi-interview-kate-gosselin-rock-n-roll-chicago-race-20120719,0,2235078.column
An excerpt:
Former “Jon & Kate Plus 8” star Kate Gosselin ran the Rock 'N' Roll San Diego Half Marathon in June but said she will change things up a bit in Chicago and run the 3-mile version of Sunday's race — aka the Mini Marathon.
“I'm not one of those (lifelong) runners,” Gosselin, 37, said over the phone Monday. “I started running outside two years ago. It's an inexpensive workout I could do wherever and whenever. … Also, I get very little alone time, so it's my way to be by myself.”
Very little alone time? I can't even put into words how I feel about that statement.
Here's my concern, though. Kids are often teased at school for whatever reason, but I would think that anything would pale in comparison to a second grader who is still being nursed. Kids do find out, and wouldn't the humiliation far exceed any benefits the child could get from breastfeeding?
Honey Boo Boo (I expect her family tree has no branches), Pete Rose.....
TLC has truly "devolved" from The Learning Channel to The Low-brow Channel.
A few things: With regard to drugs during pregnancy, you really have to weigh the pros and cons. Remember DES? That was given to prevent miscarriage back in the 50s-60's. But the daughters ( and now sons) are found to have suffered the consequences and have reproductive system issues. My sister was a DES daughter and just had a hysterectomy related to it. Fertility problems, cancer risk, deformities all sorts of issues.
Tomatoes and Tess: I agree, I think the discussions here are so interesting the different POVs and anecdotes. I have learned a lot here, from uses of vinegar, to authors, gardening, health, cooking tips, community support above all. Plus love the Kate snark and witty repartee.
Tess, I hope your son is doing well now.It's totally your business. But if people do nurse in public, it's easy to do discreetly. If your child is older, probably being alone is best for all.
I think it's a good thing to encourage nursing- I found in moving here from Canada, there do seem to be fewer moms nursing for very long. As it's convenient and cheaper, I wonder why! The nutritional value, immunity protection, bonding etc. Is it that moms are not taught correctly and are booted out of hospital before they get the hang of it- it's not easy sometimes to get it going well. Is it because people don't like to think of breasts as nutrition vehicles, but just as sexual 'organs?' Maybe a combo.
Tomatoes: I do see your point, and agree it should be done without offending anyone for whatever reason. I mean, as a society we are not used to 'regular' women revealing their breasts in public. That's why I was always covered even if it's obvious what you are doing for your child.
Respect of POV on this board almost always gets an A+
Admin, it was Thalidomide. AKA other names, of course. I am quite a bit older than you but I briefly dated a man with no arms due to thalidomide given his mother during pregnancy.
There was also a common antibiotic during the early 60s that was given, that caused yellow or grey teeth in the upcoming child. I am not sure my 48 year old brother has YET 'forgiven' our mother for that one. Ha!
Seriously, though, with a child age six or seven, how do you nurse? Isn't he too big to hold in your arms as you would an infant or young toddler? It just seems so awkward (physically).
Hi Melinda F!!!!!! seriously, at that age a kid should be drinking whatever out of a glass. Would we be oh so EarthMother about a kid that age going to 2nd grade with a bottle or pacifier hanging from his mouth? NOOOOO. So if ya think you NEEEEED your kid to have whatever is left of breastmilk, pump and put in a cup. NO CHILD that age should be suckling, with a set of teeth that can rip apart a steak or wild boar. It's interfering with nature because a woman wants to whip it out in the name of nutrition. Put it in a cup for cryin' out loud.
...typical summer weather.
Wouldn't breast feeding over the age of four give your child WAY too much control over your life? And what if you have more than one? (Child, not breast) do they fight over you? Jockey for space like puppies?
Those meat patties look like Kate just slapped them together and threw them on the grill much like she did with the peanut butter sandwiches she threw at the kids on the Australia picnic. And her fans are nearly orgasmic at the sight of them.
Wouldn't breast feeding over the age of four give your child WAY too much control over your life?
++++++++++++++++++
I was thinking about that, too. What if you have a 9 to 5 job and your child is in pre-school? Do you go to the school over your lunch hour to breast feed? Do you skip meetings because you have to go to daycare to nurse a five-year-old every four hours?
Isn't there also a school of thought that mothers who nurse older children many times do it NOT to benefit the child, but rather they themselves need the comfort and closeness, unwilling to acknowledge that the child is no longer their baby?
Just asking...!
My breast feeding opinion is not towards women covering up. Of course you can breast feed(covered) the baby has to eat! I'm talking about taking out your big boob out at a resturant and feeding! I have seen it and it's not pretty!
Let me give you an analogy , what if a gorgeous couple sitting at a table next to you at a resturant , rip off their clothes and have sex! Some might say sex is a beautiful thing! Yea! At your own home! Pleeeeese, I don't want to see that , that's a personal thing that should stay private
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, it is a personal thing, but the bottom line is that a baby needs to eat. Would you want to eat your lunch in a public bathroom? I nursed both my kids, descretely, but in public. Never once did anyone say anything. My kids are 2 years apart, and when I had the rare chance to go out to the mall with little kids, my mind was scrambled with everything I needed to take with me in the diaper bag, and I don't want to have to bother with warming up a bottle.
The recent Time magazine article, IMO, was in bad taste - that child will be teased over that for years to come. Not the best idea for the mom or the magazine.
My kids are long past the days of nursing (9 and 11). It still amazes me how many people give dirty looks to nursing moms. On a recent trip to a local shopping mall there was a mom doing everyting she could to be descrete while nursing her baby while she was at a table at the far end of the food court. Just 5 stores away was a Victoria's Secret. Keep in mind, this store is located near the center of the mall, right where they have Santa and the Easter Bunny. I guess its okay to show boobies when men can gawk and drool over them, but when they are used for their primary, functional purpose - nursing a baby - that's too taboo.
And her fans are nearly orgasmic at the sight of them.
++++++++++++++
Her fans would be orgasmic if she threw marinated pigs' tongues on the grill and called them Kate's special organic sowburgers.
"...I get very little alone time...". Unbelievable!! Someone pass the vinegar Rumspringa - hmmm..... Better make it a double :)
CT Yankee - Absolutely. If he had been going to go to public school, that would have been a consideration. We had planned to homeschool, but the truth is, the combination of his illnesses and Asperger's would have led runs to the same decision. There are medical conditions that do not get a whole lot of sympathy - and especially not from peers. He has a wonderful group of friends who know about his "stuff". They've been friends from before he was dx'd. I absolutely think the benefits should be weighed against the potential emotional cost.
Once A Viewer - thank you. He is doing really well this year. It's so good to see him happy :)
Oh, as for whipping out a "big ole boob"... Sigh.... Big for me was getting to wear B cup.
Dwindle, I knew a girl who had the yellow teeth due to her mom being on meds. Bummer, and let's just say a lot of kids weren't too kind about it :(
Kate certainly has been attracting some perverted male creeps on Twitter lately, like the last one, the refugee guy. I hope she doesn't throw them a bone and tweet them. She's really flirting with danger if she does.
Her fans would be orgasmic if she threw marinated pigs' tongues on the grill and called them Kate's special organic sowburgers.

Then they would think sowburger is pronounced SEW burger and ask what to do with the thread they used.
Do we know if Steve is still traveling with Kate for 'security'? I guess we will know from the pictures this weekend in Chicago. Again, why is she doing this mini-marathon and passing it off as her life's work? Any excuse will do to fly away from her flock.
Ooooo....Kate made burgers. Hmmm. We're supposed to get excited about that? Sorry, that's my main gripe with Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc. I have no problem with using social media to keep in touch with my family and a few close friends but frankly my life is pretty boring and I really don't think the whole world needs to know what I made for lunch or dinner that day. Do other celebrities do this? I may be hopelessly out of the loop, so please educate me.

Oh my! So funny.
On extended breast feeding - it's such a personal decision. There are many scenarios that would preclude being able to - and many have no desire. I think everyone needs to do what they believe is right for their child/family.
Poor thing. It's so hard to only have every other weekend all to yourself plus all the long hours they're in school. A woman needs her space.

LOL!
Those burgers are all different sizes- they won't cook evenly/time-wise. Yuck. Her BBQ skills have not progressed too much from the chicken sammy-nalla...
Wonder if Kate breastfed the twins? Some twin moms alternate bottle/breast each feeding or do tandem nursing ( one on each side) I somehow Kate picture Kate being comfortable & cuddly with babies. she did pump for the tups though acc to 'her' book.
There is a fine line in our society about the 'role' of breasts! They are designed for nursing, but also for intimacy. It's hard to reconcile your roles as a woman sometimes but it all works out in the end!
I think older kids are nursed less often and for comfort? I'm sure they drink out of cups as well. Shouldn't interfere with a job or other activities. Places of work should allow 'pumping' breaks though & a decent place to do it. I nurtured one child to 9 mos - he got disinterested- abut the other for almost 2 years- I got a lot of flack for that so I can only imagine what moms of older kids go through.

I think I agree with you but I'm not sure. Definitely you don't take your baby to feed in a dirty bathroom, I also think it is rude to give moms who are feeding their babies a dirty look, I don't know what to think about the Time mag. cover because I had never heard of that existing. I don't see where we have a difference of opinion but it seems like you are upset with me! Maybe you think I'm against breast feeding? Nope! Just a difference of opinion on how to do it!

My kids are 2 years apart, and when I had the rare chance to go out to the mall with little kids, my mind was scrambled with everything I needed to take with me in the diaper bag, and I don't want to have to bother with warming up a bottle.
________________________________
My pediatrician said it's not necessary to warm a bottle. In fact, formula (or breast milk in a bottle) should be given at room temp. Our malls here have separate rooms with sofas where a mother can nurse discretely and the baby won't be eating lunch in close proximity to stalls. There are so many contradictions out there by professionals that the advice can be overwhelming. It doesn't bother me in the least to see a mother nursing a baby as long as she doesn't expose anything. It would bother me, however, to see a five-year-old either in her lap or standing next to her having a drink.
Speaking of bathrooms, if you are shopping at the mall or at movies with your son, at what age do you allow him to go to the men's room by himself? I've always taken my son with me into the ladies' room and never once has anyone in there given me any grief. One older lady, bless her heart, patted me on the shoulder and said, "Don't worry about it. We understand. We were all mothers once and in this day and age you can't be too careful."
There's one comment on the Chicago Tribune story, and it's negative. Kate must've been thrilled to give an interview and to have her picture with the article. She didn't say anything about the bodyguard being part of the race traditions.
I can't resist because I'm feeling silly right now.
Paul Reiser, comic, had this line about his wife's breasts. For my son its a food buffet, for me its an entertainment center.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Reminds me of the time my friend was nursing her daughter and wanted to change positions and switch sides. The baby had other ideas and was really not happy about it. She bit her mom and Mom nearly dropped her...it was that painful.
That ended the breastfeeding!
OMG! OMG! Auntie Ann you are so freaking funny! I wish I had thought of it that way! You really crack me up!!
You guys are making me hungry with all that talk about patties! Gotta start dinner!
Nite!
Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't want a five or six year old hanging on my breast. Being a human sippy cup just isn't my idea of mother-baby bonding.
Tomatoes - I'll tell you what, it would be a heck of a lot more entertaining to watch them than listening to that lousy piano player in the corner. Where is this restaurant anyway? And do they serve rumsprinklers?
;o)
Regarding breastfeeding, I breatfed my daughter, but only for a few months. The doctor said my milk was too thin and that's why she was always hungry. Therefore I had to switch to formula when she was around 2 months old.
However, my feeling it about the same as bottle feeding. In my opinion, I wouldn't want my 4 year old to still be using a bottle so I wouldn't agree with them breastfeeding either. Once again, my opinion is toddlers should be drinking from a cup (sippy or others) by the time they are 2.
As my daughter (and grandsons) got older, they only got a bottle at night. By the time they were 2, they were sleeping without the bottle because we started putting water in the bottle, instead of milk.
Anyway, all kids are different, but this what worked for us. However I would never even consider breastfeeding a toddler, they should be past that stage by then.
Re: letting boys go into public bathrooms alone. I remember that dilemma!!! It was awful. Both of my boys got to an age where going in the ladies' room with mom was too weird. Maybe around age six? I tried to avoid a situation where they would have to use a public restroom - either my husband went with us, or we took a short trip. But, it did come up from time to time. I would stand RIGHT outside the men's room and wait. I told my boys that if anyone even looked at them to yell and I'd run in! LOL There were a few times when I hollered in there "Are you doing ok?" Now they're 14 and 19 and I'm worrying about different things! :)
Re: breast feeding older kids . . . I don't mean any offense, but it seems very strange to me. I nursed my boys until around age 1. My daughter was adopted, and she was never breast fed. She's been the healthiest one - go figure! I can't help thinking that the mom is getting something out of it. I agree with whoever said if it must be done for nutritional reasons, put it in a cup. Same nutrition without as much weirdness. I know in some countries it is necessary for mothers to nurse much longer. I would never do it because 1)it goes against what's considered "normal" for the vast majority of people in our society. When you choose to go against the norms, you're going to get questioned/made fun of/ridiculed. If it's worth it to you, go for it. But it would never be worth it to me to subject my kids to that. And 2)I would have to see evidence that it is nutritionally far superior to what a weaned child gets. Most kids aren't nursing at age 5, and most of them are doing just fine. Which takes me back to my question about the purpose and what the mom is getting out of it.
What was the point of that hamburger picture except to show off her fancy stove with a grill.
13 burgers? Since when? And it looks like she put hunks of potatoes in her meat. What is that? Vegetables? Onion? Filler?
She's probably using her meatloaf recipe where she 'sneaks in' the vegetables.
How old is Pete Rose now. He has been around ever since I can remember and I hate botoxed trophy wives and then I watch a little of AGT (for Howard Stern) and there Sharon has a big swollen upper lip and her face looks like a mannequin and that happened within a week.
Also, I do believe in discretion when breastfeeding. I remember being around 10 or 11 and at the beach one year. I went into the ladies room and a woman was just sitting there topless with her child breastfeeding. As a kid, I didn't understand it and I remember being embarassed by it. I don't know why, but I just was. Therefore, I was always discreet when breastfeeding my daughter.
Mrs. Malaprop, I understand what you are saying about letting your boys go into the bathroom alone. If it's at a store with only a one room bathroom, like my local Jewel, my grandson can go in there alone and I'm right outside the door. However, if it's at a store with multiple stalls, they're still young enough where I can take them into the ladies room.
However, once they get to 6 or 7, I think I'm going to make sure Papa comes shopping with us so they are not in the bathroom alone!

What was the point of that hamburger picture except to show off her fancy stove with a grill.
@@@@@@@@@@@
Assuming the picture was taken today (!), she may be sending a subliminal message about being home tonight, instead of winging her way toward Chicago for her 3-mile run on Sunday. A new thing, given that she usually takes flight several days before a scheduled event.
And as for the 13 burgers, I don't know what to say about that. Maybe an afterthought, added for effect after she decided to post a picture? Nine are almost cooked, but the "extra" 4 are still raw.
13 burgers? Since when? And it looks like she put hunks of potatoes in her meat. What is that? Vegetables? Onion? Filler?
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
It's raw onion. Milo apparently thinks it's grilled onions, but then again, the stars in her eyes for Kate cloud her vision. She's so orgasmic over the Bella Bars she ordered that she can't contain her excitement.
Fired Up 4 Kate @MiloandJack
@Kateplusmy8 Those grilled onions mixed in w/meat! Love it that way! Adds so much flavor! :)
Milo, honey, please stop drinking the kool-aid. Adding onions to ground beef, whether they are grilled or not, is NOT a new idea. My grandma, and other grandmas, were doing that back in the 40's and 50's that I know of. It was probably being done long before that. Kate did NOT invent onions with ground beef! Sheeeesh!!
I am instantly sorry for using the phrase "drinking the kool-aid". I've been reading books about Jonestown and I now know what that phrase refers to. I shouldn't have used it as a joke.
Re: public bathrooms and our sons.
I let my 6 yr old son go in the men's room at McD with his little friend, stationing myself at the outside door. Well, the friend came out & told me my son 'needed help' and was sick. (I won't go into details.) I asked a man exiting if any men were inside, explaining the situation, and he said yes, but he would let me know when the coast was clear and I could go in to help my son and he would guard the door ! How thoughtful- kindness of strangers. My poor son was indeed in need of help. But let me tell you, there is a HUGE difference between men's and ladies' rooms in terms of cleanliness at McDonald's any way!

I appreciate your sensitivity, LoveMyGrandsons. That phrase somehow ended up in the venacular, and I'm sorry that it did. It makes light of the very dark, incredibly tragic events in Jonestown that (to my mind) we should never forget.
Maybe Kate is planning to freeze burgers for when she's away...
Love 'When Harry Met Sally.' That woman was Rob Reiner's mother in 'real life.' Meg Ryan was such a good comedic actress, but also good in serious roles like 'When a Man Loves a Woman."

I've never been offended by the phrase and it's been used for so long that I think it's evolved to have a meaning that doesn't even connect to Jonestown anymore. I think the phrase alludes to sheep, blindly following a person or entity without any critical higher thinking, and being impervious to reason.

Sweetie,
don't you worry. We use that phrase ALL the time in the military...it's evolved beyond that horrid incident of that day. Now it just means 'don't buy what their selling' :)
We know you wouldn't deliberately use phrase that would be hurtful or offensive.

I see that Milo has befriended the male creep on Twitter. Milo is such a good judge of character, isn't she? As long as someone is a sheeple, Milo is right there.
Tucker's Mom,
Jinx! Great minds, and all :)
Improbable Dreams, I agree with you 100%. We should never forget that tragic event and all that lead up to it. I was only 18 at the time and heard about it, but didn't understand everything until I started reading the various books about it recently. Now that I know what that phrase refers to, I will never use it again.
Thank you, butterfly. I truly didn't know what the phrase was referring to until recently.
Tucker's Mom, now that I understand where the phrase came from, I can see how it is used in respect to someone following another blindly, never questioning anything. It's sad that people will shut off their brain and do that.
IMO drinking the Koolaid is so far removed from its original meaning it really shouldn't offend.
When a Man Loves a Woman is apparently such an accurate portrayal of alcoholism that I know a social worker who recommends that families of alcoholics watch it.
Since I like my burgers medium or medium rare onions in them doesn't give them enough time to cook. I would get crunchy bitter things that are not appetizing. Much prefer to caramelize them and put them on top.
I get the biggest kick reading some of the tweets from the sheeple. Are they getting more stupid?

@Kateplusmy8 Do you have the stove with the grill in the middle. They are great!
Look at the photo. Does it look like the grill is in the middle? You can see the granite counter top immediately on the left!
Ooo ooo I have a grill in the middle of my stove! I want a medal. Now.
Admin, you're right that the phrase is so common most people don't realize what it originally referred to. I just recently found out because a friend recommended a book about Jim Jones, and then I started reading other books about Jonestown. Since I've been reading these books, I'm a little more emotional now knowing what happened to the children in Jonestown. Sorry for being so OT with this.

I read the book "heaven is for real" and saw the family that wrote the book on the Today show. It was a great comfort and it made the hair on my arms stand up (in a good way) about where my son is right now. I would highly recommend it and i will keep you in my prayers.
Admin: we could always use the phrase: what was Milo sniffing, she should stop it's giving her brain damage.
Yeah, I wonder if kate will be on any of the morning talk shows here in Chicago, friday. Windy city live or Fox or WGN. Which would mean kate would have to fly out tonight. I hope not. I really don't want to see her mug. They do as they do in every city at least 2-3 marathons every weekend, kate's run is nothing special, infact I have not seen any advertisement for it, except that online article, no TV ads, so far.

I don't know. Milo said grilled onions. The burgers look like mini meatloaf patties with raw chopped onions mixed in. I often do that with burgers, but never use grilled or "caramelized" onion!
Well, Kate will do tomorrow, one of 2 things: run off to NYC, to get hair & make-up done, or leave early to be on local shows in Chicago, with a stop at coupon cabin. Or she will go to NYC, then fly to Chicago, not even stopping home. She's too happy.
Lovemygrandsons,
I think plenty of people my age (40) and older, and even plenty of the younger folk, like my kid who is in her teens and she knows, know where the phrase came from. I think it keeps the Jamestown incident relevent, so it doesn't get forgotten. I actually knew about Jamestown before I heard people using that phrase in the vernacular. It's part of our history and that phrase made it into our vernacular is pretty interesting indicative of just how much that incident did impress itself on our collective psyche- but that's the nerd in me! (I use a foreign a language for a living and learning cultural phrases such as that one teaches you about a society's history and culture- very important when you want to know your enemy, LOL)
Hope that helps. We all know Jamestown was devastating. At least now it will never be forgotten.

I'm not one who insists on "polically correct" phraseology, and I promise not to harp on this. I do, however, believe we shouldn't allow certain phrases (and the events they represent) to be co-opted by popular culture. It blunts their impact -- personal and historic --in ways it probably shouldn't. And the fact that it does offend some, if not all? Seems to me sufficient reason to avoid them, if/when other options are available. My thoughts, for whatever they're worth. I know others feel differently, but hey, that's what makes the world go 'round. Peace...
But drinking the koolaid just expresses it so well. It wouldn't be the same if you said, drinking the Crystal Light Pomegranate iced tea.

@@@@@@
LOL! I see your point...through the lens of pop culture, anyway. :)
I beg your forgiveness in advance for this VERY rough analogy, but I think that helps illustrate the larger point.
Lots of people laughed at Seinfeld's Soup Nazi, and soon after, "Nazi This" and "Nazi That" turned into mainstream humor, and then got co-opted by pundits & pop culture. I hear it all the time, and still wonder how it came to be that a despised trait became shorthand for something(s) else.
Lots of people were/are horrified to see that progression. It cuts too close to the bone. They aren't humorless, I don't think. They just don't like that it blurs the edges of an horrific event in world history that, to their way of thinking, should always remain a sharp image in the collective consciousness.
Again, my apologies for the imperfect analogy. And gratitude for your indulgence. I'll quit now, having said (more than) my piece. :)
Well it's sort of like all the Hitler videos going around. I think there are still some people offended but most people seem to think they're hysterical.
The way I see it, if God forbid anything horrific ever happened to me, I wouldn't begrudge it if people find a way to laugh about it after. I love to laugh and have fun and most of life is a joke. So laugh on.

One of the cardinal rules for comedy is "Know your audience". You would not play a funny Hitler video at a meeting of B'rith Shalom or a
rendition of "Vatican Rag" in a CCD class. Those would be clear mistakes. Sometimes the water is muddier and it's hard to know who will
laugh and who will get up and walk out.
I have no use for casual phrases about Jonestown, Waco, or any of it, but I can only take care of my own reaction to it. I can't decide if YOU should see it or not. I can decide to make it a big deal or just block it out and get on with my day.

That little guy is a terror! He's going around biting everyone's toes/feet! He is enrolled to start puppy school next week! LOL

This would be funny if it wasn't so very true.
There is a huge cross section of folks out there who first and foremost buy new clothes, pay the iphone bill, get more of the tatoo back mural filled in, get their nails did, and buy cigarettes whenever they get paid. THEN... whatever is left over is nickled and dimed out to those pesky landlords, utility companies and fuel suppliers who have the nerve to want to be paid EVERY month.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the good people of Aurora, Colorado affected by the horrible shooting at the Batman, The Dark Knight Rises movie's midnight showing.
A gunman came into the theater and let loose a smoke bomb and proceeded to shoot, killing at least 15 at this point and injuring 50. The theater had to be filled with young kids and teens, given the movie and that it's summer. In fact, a 6 year old is confirmed dead.
The gunman is in custody but said that he planted explosives in cars outside the theater, so police are still looking for them if they exist.
Such a tragedy.
Ugh, I can't stand it when people turn to celebrities for medical advice. And Kate would be at the very bottom of my list of go too people if I was so inclined.
I think she should get her kids outside and they start turning those flower beds into vegetable gardens, and replace the 'privacy' hedge with an orchard. Then when this whole exploiting my children for profit scam runs out she can at least keep them in truly organic foods, not that processed crap she is buying.
I've been noticing all the celebrities of late taking huge hits selling their homes. Kate might well lose hers if a big paying job doesn't come along.
As for breastfeeding, I say do it for as long as the child wants but protect their privacy if this goes past toddlerhood.
Watching the news coverage of the theatre shooting. God be with the families of the deceased.
Pardon my premature reporting... the six year old is injured, not dead. I was looking forward to seeing this movie (getting great reviews) but I don't know if I'll be able to sit in a dark theater and not think of these victims while watching it.
What a tragedy. Heard his mother was not surprised? I find a degree of blame in that she did not take action of some sort. Not her fault, but she should have done something- will wait until whole story unfolds.

Re: Let's Throw Tomatoes puppy.
If your pup is a herding dog, the biting of toes and feet or pulling on pant legs stuff usually stops when the dog reaches a certain level of development. As a herding dog myself, I know this!
Seriously, I have border collies and aussies and so much of training is age related and in the case of these 2 breeds at least, directly related to inborn behaviors. They can be a pain in the rear to the older dog for years. The last pup I got was 3 and a half years ago, and the dogs who are now 13 and 16 have never corrected the pup for this. It would be so much better if they did, but they don't. The pup is an Aussie, born without tails, and so he is fascinated with tails. He chewed on the border collies' tails for the longest time. Finally they outgrow the worst behavior. Good luck, older dog!
Prayers going to the families involved in the Aurora, Colorado movie shooting.
What a tragedy.

My Beardie loves to herd toddlers. He walks behind them with his nose stuck to their diapers! It's also like they just fascinate him-- little people, oooh!
I wasn't breast fed, and my immune system worked normally as a kid. My SIL chose not to breast feed her two boys. She wrapped those puppies after delivery and shrunk them back to the mosquito bites that they are!
It's a personal choice and a beautiful thing, but needs to be discrete in public. At least in our culture.
Oh how awful to hear about this shooting. OH and I have tickets for the 8pm tonight, I'm with Tucker I don't know how we can watch it without thinking about this.
My heart goes out to the families of the victums of this tragic event. What is suppose to be a family fun event turns tragic. My heart also goes out to the shooters family, cause, this truobled young man, did not get help or everyone ignored the warning signs and did nothing, his family will have to live with that for the rest of their lives, the guilt. Reports say that his mother said: you got the right person(mom does not live in Colorado). Makes you wonder what goes through a young persons mind to get that angry to want to shoot others. This is not something any of us want to hear about or hopefully never experience. There are almost no words, for something like this.
As for kate Gosselin, compared to this: Kate your a big nothing, unimportant, insignificant, has been nobody. I would not be surprised if and when Kate says anything about this tragedy, that some how she makes it about herself. To me then Kate is an unfeeling low-life.
