Have y'all heard those stories about farmers who allow those giant roadside billboards on their property and they get a pretty penny for it?
What if someone came to YOU and wanted to PAY you to put a giant billboard on your small property or roof top? For lots of money!?!
Would you allow or encourage an enormous photo of your children with a billboard caption that says "See these faces? Here is a list of their names, ages, schools! They are draining me dry. What a burden they are. And look at their teeth, can you pick which one will bleed me dry with braces?"
That is exactly what Jon and Kate are doing. Kate is at it multiple times a day, changing the captions on the billboard and updating the pics. Jon throws up his own billboard for a while, takes it down, then criticizes KATE'S billboard. They both phone the press to come and see the billboard as often as possible. Kate's entire career is based on re-routing freeway traffic to drive past her billboard as much as possible.
Kate insists she MUST put up the billboard because she cant find any other income than the rent the billboard pays. She doesnt want to farm the land that the billboard is on and doesnt want to get a job. She also insists her kids LOVE being complained about on the billboard!
Jon pops in and out with his billboard to SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT, ring his hands about the curses of billboards, but he still does it.
The kids are still up on billboards for everyone to stare at, their parents are still writing captions that complain about their existence and what a drag they are on life, and the mother is living off the billboard rent.
Apparently some people are calling Jon a coward for deleting his Twitter. Wow, he's a coward for not needing people to fawn over him to survive, unlike Kate?

(We are farmers, but we don't have any billboards. Maybe, because no one would see it in the middle of the "no where". Our crops are dying from drought right now. It will be an interesting year for many farm families in our portion of the country.)

The drive-byes can't defend their 'hero' with facts, so they just call people liars, jealous, haters, etc. No different than many politicians and pundits, spewing hatred and lies; just believe what I'm saying, do NOT confuse my argument or points with actual facts!
I work in business and everyone knows the old stereotype; a strong man is just that, while a strong woman is a bitch. No, a strong woman is strong woman and those who consider Kate a strong woman, give credence to that stereotype.
A strong woman doesn't abuse or put down others to make themselves SEEM more superior, nor do they encourage it. A strong woman sets the record straight and does not let rumour or lies stand in the public light.
Kate has been asked numerous times about the change to 50/50 custody. Does she confirm or deny, no she retreats a twit complimenting her on being 'nice' to Jon! Because she has chosen to make her families life public, we and the general public, are exposed to their family drama's. Therefore, it is her responsibility to ensure that what is put out there is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth ... we can handle it, can she?
People were bashing Jon on Jon's twitter-people bash Kate on Kate's twitter. I understand that, but don't necessarily approve.
However, people also bash Jon on Kate's twitter. I don't recall seeing people bash Kate on Jon's twitter. Kate has to see the tweets bashing Jon-her name is included in them.
Kate should at least put a stop to the Jon bashing on her twitter, or block the people that do it.
By not addressing it, IMO it shows she thoroughly approves of it.
Did you happen to watch a very good 3-part PBS doc called The Farmer's Wife (over 10 years ago!)about the plight of the family farm, set in Nebraska? I think you would enjoy it. Maybe you could check it out on Amazon.
A lot of the "haters" on Kate's twitter are ridiculous. There's been lots of discussion here about that. Not many, if any, people here condone that ridiculous behavior.

I was wondering about something in regards to that. When I go on the page, I see the same one, two, or three regulars no matter what time of the day or night I check it. I got curious. I pulled up the timeline for one of them and saw that in a 24-hour period, the person was tweeting this nonsense for 19 hours.
I don't know much about Twitter. When the time follows the name (such as 17 hours, 16 hours, etc) I assume that means that the tweet was sent 17 hours ago. There was a break of only five hours between all of the tweets. How accurate is this? I can't imagine that one person sleeps for only five hours, and is tweeting for the rest of the day. Do they eat? Do they shower? Do they do laundry? If they have a husband and children, do they spend time with them?
WOW! I don't post too often and so I get way backed up on reading all your comments. While reading this afternoon, I see a nasty person has been on Twitter using the Kuerig tag. I just want to assure you guys it's not me. Last week there was a drive by sheeple who attacked two of my comments, I believe they were the one at Twitter. There is just so much childish drivel when the sheep get out of their pen. I think it's time to change my name.
The only difference and yes, I will defend Jon with regards to his twitter account. He never was a heavy twitterer, he did not discuss the children on his twitter account except for a vague reference and then very, very rarely, he never retweeted praise on himself or sly attacks at Kate, and only defended himself 2-3x that I can recall.
With all the negative stories about him this week and the ongoing attacks, pure drivel and venom that Kates supporters spewed on his feed, I can certainly understand his want to close it down. I applaud Jon for that decision and not encouraging the whackadoo's, unlike Kate!

But it could have also been that when they split assets, they imputed income to Jon for CS and they took the CS from his share from the divorce. Which would explain why he is so much poorer than Kate following the divorce.
I don't think there is enough known that TLC was still paying Jon all these years. And if they were paying him, what the agreement was and why. It would be interesting if the Gosselin Book reveals information about TLC's involvement in the Custody Support and Divorce proceedings including the continuation of Jon being paid by TLC for his agreement to let the Gkids continue to be filmed.
And I do believe that the tuition is being paid out of the assets at this point. Neither Jon or Kate are making enough to pay out of income. And I believe Kate is making sure it is coming out of the GKIDS share of assets and not hers.

Revolting human being is an apt description. From what the director said, the owners of properties around the golf course have piles of dirt surrounding their properties as well as trees planted so that they have now lost their sea views. All this so that the wealthy golf members don't have to see what the Donald described as run down properties. One homeowner found that his water and electricity were shut off because of his objections to the project. It is in the village of Montrose,a gorgeous area, that is about an hour south of Aberdeen. The beach and the views go on for miles. I'm sure this saga is going to go on for a long time.
As far as Aberdeen goes, it is located on the north east coast. A small city that has a large fishing industry and was known, when we were there, as the oil capital of Europe. It might still be known as that. As far as traditional music. The music that played in the pubs and clubs was the music of the time. Sheena Easton, Depeche Mode, Human League, Duran Duran. I do have to say that I love bag pipes and could listen to them for hours on end. As far as getting to the Orkneys from Aberdeen, I suppose you could but I don't recall any ferries from Aberdeen to the islands. Because they are located off the very north of Scotland, I would assume you would take a ferry from there. You said you spent a lot of time there in the 80's. We were there in the early eighties. Where did you spend your time?

I also love As Time Goes By, Doc Martin, Masterpiece Mystery with Inspector Lewis, although I do miss Inspector Morse. Can't wait for Downton Abbey to come back on.

I was reading over on Kate's Twitter page. Some of the comments by the sheeple are crazy...stupid statements regarding child support. If you know nothing about how support works, custody laws, etc., wouldn't you think that you'd check the internet for PA child custody/support laws? Surely they are not that stupid that they don't know that the info is available online. Or are they?
Yes, that constant "making memories" phrase really is disturbing. If you have to try so hard to make them, and make it a POINT to do so, then something is wrong. Memories create themselves. You don't orchestrate or control them.

Was on Britain's "The Daily Mail" website reading about the passing of Geoffrey Hughes and noticed they had an article about Kate at the BlogHer conference. There is a close up photo of her head. Holy cow what happened to her skin. She used to have beautiful skin but even under the inch of foundation she had on you can still see all the blemishes. And she needs about four inches cut off the bottom of her hair because it is dead.

Oh my gosh. Thanks for jogging my memory! Can I just recommend that EVERYONE check out The Farmer's Wife? It is available on netflix.
It's widely regarded as one of the best "reality shows" ever made, although I think it's more aptly called a documentary. Reality show isn't really fair to what it is. Not only is it a brutally honest look at how hard many small farms struggle, but it ended up chronicling the breakdown of a marriage. Wouldn't you know it, another reality show family ends up breaking up.

Readerlady - thank you SO much! I knew you'd have some helpful advice. I'm west of Delaware and south of you. So those shelters are great options for us. The kitten has made it into our basement because my daughter convinced my husband that the garage is just too hot for a kitten! That little thing is a total snuggle bunny already! She is just precious. Hasn't used the litter box yet though. When I was holding her she let out a few stinkies. : ) So I told my husband about the two rescues you mentioned. I said, "So, do you want to take her to one of those?" He said, "I don't know . . . " And he's not the animal lover around here! The kids keep wanting to name her. I said we can name her The Cat We Don't Want. So here's Mr. Malaprop's question - do you know of any places that do shots, neutering, etc. for cheap? Okay, I'm having tracking all the comments so please help me catch up:
1) Jon does an interview with Star magazine claiming to be broke and unable to pay rent because he has to pay CS. (Was this article published in print or just on radaronline?)
2) Kate's attorney shoots back that Jon was relieved of paying CS back at the end of April and only owes whatever he was in arrears on from the past.
3) Admin shares from a source that Jon no longer pays CS to Kate because he was awarded 50/50 custody.
4) Someone on 15 minutes shares that Jon is no longer employed at the sports center, that he only worked their 8 weeks.
5) Jon tweets that he is heading into work on Monday. He does not state where.
6) Jon deletes his Twitter account.
You know, I hope these two nitwits get it figured out and don't scar their kids to badly. They're both pathetic IMO.
No offense to the kids, who I'm sure are adorable to those who love them, but they are just "mediocre" kids.

I hope people do watch because it's a terrifically gritty and real portrait (filmed over 3 years) of the struggles of modern farmers, and as you said, the breakup of a family. Mrs. Malaprop -- Sounds to me like you have a new kitten :) . I think Cozy Cottage has a low cost speuter clinic. Also, try Pet Concern. It's located on N. High St. in Columbus -- I think Clintonville, or there abouts. It's S of Worthington and N of Whetstone, anyway. I've never taken a pet there, but a friend of mine has used it a number of times and speaks very highly of the vet there. Dr. Trego, or Treger -- something like that. They ONLY do vaccs and speuter, nothing else. Whatever you do, DON'T go to the Delaware shelter clinic. They have a terrible reputation.
I really don't know why he kept the twitter account, any way. In the past several months he hardly tweeted. Unlike Kate who we all know most of her followers are, bought accounts and/or empty accounts. Jon has the kids more now, so, between work, kids and GF, he really does not have time to answer a-hole questions, and sit for hours un-end, reading all the garbage. Good for JON. lol!! I just looked at it and thought the very same thing. The guacamole looks strategically placed. Nothing on the dress, some long strings on the shoulder and hair. Guacomole doesn't "mess" like that! You can't get it on your hair like that unless you hold it above your head and let it drip.
Oh, you may know this, but Juanita and Darrell (sp) both remarried, and D kept the farm. J furthered her education and still works in the financial aspects of farm management Audrey, the oldest girl, was in trouble for a number of DUIs. Also a leaving scene of accident and MIP. Abby and Whitney both became party girls. all three went to college I believe in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Juanita's married name is Hastings. she finally could afford to get her dentistry problems fixed.
The family was paid nothing. They did receive a lot of donations they were grateful for, though.

Readerlady - I will be sure to look into those clinics. And thanks for the heads up about Delaware! Now I have another question (sorry!) - at what age should we take her in for fixing and shots? It's been a long time since we've had such a young kitten. I'm guessing she's just about 6 weeks right now. I wish I could show you a picture - she's really cute. So here's the issue for us now; my SIL texted my son and said she might be interested in taking the kitten. She has one indoor cat, and last fall she brought home a kitten to be an outside cat. That cat has since run away (Or been killed. Who knows?). But during the winter my SIL wouldn't leave her garage door up a little so the cat could get in for shelter and food. She didn't want critters getting in her garage, so if the cat wasn't in by dark, the door went down. I don't want to give her this kitten!!! We're going to have to make a decision about keeping it or sending it to a shelter here pretty soon. My husband is pretty sure we're going to keep it. I told him that our kids will always remember all their pets and taking in strays, but they'll never have fond memories of a quiet, spotless house!

I don't think he tours any more, but he has a theater in Branson, Mo. and does nightly shows. A friend of mine was there about a year ago and says he's on stage for over 2 hours, plays 7 or 8 instruments during the show, and sings all his old hits plus some newer music.

Kate was right about one thing. It's easier to pimp out a herd of babies than older kids. Very few people find older kids, especially other people's older kids, either interesting or cute.

Mrs. Malaprop -- Normally, I would start to vaccinate my kits at about 12 weeks old, since they had maternal antibodies, but you don't know if the kitten has maternal antibodies so the sooner, the better. She should also be tested for FIV and FELV. Spaying -- If the vet practices pediatric speutering, about 10 - 12 weeks. If not, around 5 months, but don't let her around any unneutered males :). I agree with you about letting her go to your SIL unless she promises to keep her an indoor only cat and you trust her to keep that promise. Cats don't really NEED to go out, even tho some of them might tell you otherwise, LOL. They are much safer and healthier if they're kept indoors.
My first thought on the pic was if she liked it so much why didn't she eat it, instead of playing with it. When will she ever learn that her kids are not toddlers anymore and there will never be another "H. pooped in H's underwears" moment. Who in the world would want to suck guacamole from a sack tube and why? Gross and disgusting. Instead of letting her kids act their age she encourages them to act like they are still little. Bobby Rydell, Frankie Avalon and Fabian are still touring together. Bobby Vinton is still touring. Just saw him this summer. He's in Ocean Grove, NJ, in a few weeks.
That photo is staged. A child of that age would not play with their food like that. That is something that a 4 year old would do. Also, how could she possibly get it all over her without getting any on her clothing?!

A stray cat had five kittens once in the brush at this church a block away from me and I was worried about them and called the Humane Society. They told me really the best thing to do was leave them be because if I brought them in they would be euthanized. I was shocked and horrified.

This is to encourage folks to bring in strays that they find, even if folks feel the need to release them back onto the 'streets'. It sounded cruel to me, but I have seen cats down there that have the snip in the ear, you cant really see it until you look, and I suppose it is for the best.
My point is, dont be too surprised or mortified if you hear of such a thing in your area.

Juanita said they got free marriage therapy when they realized from filming how bad things were in the family. In their case, you could see the breakup was inevitable. I was sad the kids got into trouble, although many teens do. I don't think it was from doing the doc- it was a very small crew and they weren't encouraged to call them Daddy.

I only had them in order to become famous, spending 50 weeks on bedrest for them, sacrificing, grifting matching cribs, formula, food, diapers, groceries, name brand clothing, toys, crooked houses, etc. As the fame, gift cards, and $$ rolled in, I kicked their father, my friends, and our families to the curb because they didn't know how to help me/disagreed with me, took up with my married silver-haired bodyguard, and left them with nannies while I pursued the bright lights of Hollywood television stardom and went on talk shows crying and moaning about how hard my life has been/throwing my ex-husband under the bus. Now that I haven't worked for almost a year in my chosen field, TV, it's time for them to earn their keep again!!

Cruisin -- I didn't know Vinton was still touring. Thanks for that information. He's another who does(did) great shows. I've seen him in concert several times, although the last time was about 20 years ago. Another performer who does a great show is Barry Manilow. What's really impressive about a lot of these performers is that they've really studied music, not just picked up a guitar and learned a few chords. Sedaka graduated from Juilliard. Vinton has a degree in music from Duquesne. Diamond studied music at NYU, although I think he was a pre-med student. Manilow studied at Juilliard. I'm sure many others also have formal music training, but I don't know off-hand. Not many of the younger music stars can say the same. Beyonce is classically trained, but off-hand, I don't know of any others.

Lol As far as Kate encouraging the 8 year olds to act like toddlers...we all know she has always tried to get people to think they are younger than they are..thus "the littles". Once in the case of the Farmer's Wife I tend to agree it was not the documentary that caused them problems. Without a doubt they would have divorced anyway. I think the only ethical question is should such a private thing be shown, is it okay because you're in the middle of telling a great story.
If I recall the director said he didn't really set out to tell this particular story of Juanita but the more and more he filmed the more he realized it was HER story and ended up making a documentary about her instead of just the family in general. Interesting.

That is part of why that Snip The Ear low cost program is a decent idea. Maybe you dont mind a few strays in the area, keeping the moles and voles and mice in check. But a few strays translates to 100 strays by this time next year. I know someone who lives in a trailer park - excuse me, Mobile Home Park.- it is really lovely with 2200 sq foot homes etc, but they have a terrible mice problem, all living in seasonal comfort UNDER the homes! Several years ago a few residents brought a few kittens in, spayed and neutered and vaccinated. The cats keep the mice eliminated and once a year my friend rounds up the cats for vet visits. i know outdoor cats is not everyone's comfort level, but this sure worked for their area.

As someone very involved with cat rescue, I want to point out that ear tipping is not cruel, although I understand why it might be perceived that way. It's done under anesthesia while the cat is being spayed or neutered and heals very quickly. The benefits are tremendous. It lets other rescuers involved in trap/neuter/release of ferals know that the cat has been taken care of, so you don't end up with a poor animal going through surgery more than once. In addition,in many cities, animal control will not pick up ear tipped cats because they know they are being cared for, so the cats do not end up euthanized. Rescuers involve in trap/neuter/release don't just dump the cats back on the streets, they make sure that there is a "colony manager" responsible for feeding them.)
Dwindle -- Most TNR (Trap, neuter, release) programs notch the ear of a cat to show it's been altered. The TNR program has been recognized as an effective and safe way to manage feral cat populations. Unfortunately, some areas still don't recognize it and even try to prosecute people who do it. Unfortunately, most of the cats are hard-core ferals who would never adapt to being a pet.

Admin: I agree...I read that too about the story's focus shifting to Juanita. I think Juanita especially agreed to do the film to showcase the plight of the family farm disappearing in the united States and what a shame that would be. As for privacy she said in a town of 350, everyone knew their problems anyhow. But I agree it was a bit personal for most people to choose to film. J said if people act a certain way in private why not show it in public- it doesn't change the behavior. I think they would have gone under and broke up much sooner if not for her true grit.She seemed to be smart, funny and a devoted mom.

Readerlady - thank you, again. I will make some calls tomorrow and see what I can line up. It's been a madhouse around here with our Cockapoo puppy and German Shepherd. The GSD wants to drool all over the kitten, and the cockapoo wants it to run so he can chase it. The kitten has tried to pounce on the cockapoo's wagging tail which has totally freaked the dog out. This is one confident, tiny cat!! Hasn't tried to run and hide from the dogs at all.
Dwindle - how interesting regarding snipping the ears. I've never heard of that. If I take it to a low-cost clinic I'll be sure to ask about that.
Admin- I will ask before taking this little thing anywhere. I guess strays are drawn to our family for a reason. There's a farm near us with a Free Kittens sign in the yard. Absolutely. Fantastic show. We saw him several times in Vegas and at various East Coast venues. We have tickets for some shows this year. I never get tired of Barry. He still works the crowd!
Johnny Mathis still has it, too. It's a very low-key show, non-stop songs, but very good. Paul Anka puts on an amazing show. These guys still have what it takes to keep the fans happy.
The thing is, as was pointed out, they don't have to work, but they do.

Cruisin -- Maybe, in a way, they do have to work. Not from a financial standpoint but from an emotional standpoint. They are all gifted performers, and when a gift is ignored or denied, it can cause all sorts of emotional issues. They get intangible rewards and validation from pleasing their fans.

Oh, I agree with that. I meant from a financial standpoint. They have made their money. I have spoken to many performers and they all agree that without performing, their lives would be meaningless. Making their fans happy and putting on a memorable show is all they have known their entire lives. Giving it up, emotionally, would be extremely difficult.
I remember one time when I asked the wife of one celebrity performer what she will do when her husband retires, and her reply was that he is never going to retire because if he does, it would be mean the end of his life. Another wife jokingly said that if her husband retires, it will be the end of HER life because she will be at home with him and he would drive her crazy because he would be itching to get out on the road.

Cruising I've often wondered how healthy that is to be so dedicated to one's fans. I've noticed that Justin Bieber seems truly obligated to his fans. He lives for it. In his documentary he bashed his head into glass and passed out and yet still wanted to go on TV and do the spot for the fans. On the one hand I think it's great to appreciate your fans, on the other hand I think there has to be a balance too. You can live for a bunch of strangers.
Oh my god, I haven't thought about The Farmers Wife in YEARS! I saw it years ago (I was in my late 20's) and thought it was amazing! I highly recommend watching it, its such a wonderful documentary, you become so involved with this family and their story. It really struck a cord with me, this family could have been a struggling farming family from anywhere.
The scene that always comes to mind when I think of The Famers Wife is the very last scene of (I think) the second film when Juanita and Darrell are painting the outside of the house together. They were just painting and chatting and it was such a playful and sweet moment with the two of them. I was really sad to hear they divorced.
Thanks so much for jagging my memory of it, I'm going to have to watch it again, it has to be over 10 years since I've seen it.

My husband's skinflint millionaire aunt and uncle used to take all the little sugar packets off restaurant tables. And the jams, and the peanut butters and the creamers. They'd also take extra squares from the dessert cart, wrap them in napkins and eat them at home. Some people are just plain greedy no matter how much they have.
Tomorrow I am stopping at the local grocery store on my way home from work. It’s a Harris Teeter and they put out lots of samples out for the customers.
I decided I will take a cooler with Tupperware containers and collect my FREE samples – at least 20 of each (maybe more since according to Kate everyone does it). One for me, 7 for each of my 7 kids, 5 for my kids ‘ friends who will most likely be stopping over, 3 for my neighbor and her 2 small kids who like to visit, and 4 for another neighbor’s Uncle’s cousins who may visit.

A lot of the "haters" on Kate's twitter are ridiculous. There's been lots of discussion here about that. Not many, if any, people here condone that ridiculous behavior.

I was wondering about something in regards to that. When I go on the page, I see the same one, two, or three regulars no matter what time of the day or night I check it. I got curious. I pulled up the timeline for one of them and saw that in a 24-hour period, the person was tweeting this nonsense for 19 hours.
I don't know much about Twitter. When the time follows the name (such as 17 hours, 16 hours, etc) I assume that means that the tweet was sent 17 hours ago. There was a break of only five hours between all of the tweets.
How accurate is this? I can't imagine that one person sleeps for only five hours, and is tweeting for the rest of the day. Do they eat? Do they shower? Do they do laundry? If they have a husband and children, do they spend time with them?
Making memories, Kate? How strange to say they are bonding as a family. Implying that Jon and kids have not bonded? Weird.

He never was a heavy twitterer, he did not discuss the children on his twitter account except for a vague reference and then very, very rarely, he never retweeted praise on himself or sly attacks at Kate, and only defended himself 2-3x that I can recall.
With all the negative stories about him this week and the ongoing attacks, pure drivel and venom that Kates supporters spewed on his feed, I can certainly understand his want to close it down. I applaud Jon for that decision and not encouraging the whackadoo's, unlike Kate!

Yes, that is a good point.
But it could have also been that when they split assets, they imputed income to Jon for CS and they took the CS from his share from the divorce. Which would explain why he is so much poorer than Kate following the divorce.
I don't think there is enough known that TLC was still paying Jon all these years. And if they were paying him, what the agreement was and why. It would be interesting if the Gosselin Book reveals information about TLC's involvement in the Custody Support and Divorce proceedings including the continuation of Jon being paid by TLC for his agreement to let the Gkids continue to be filmed.
And I do believe that the tuition is being paid out of the assets at this point. Neither Jon or Kate are making enough to pay out of income. And I believe Kate is making sure it is coming out of the GKIDS share of assets and not hers.

Revolting human being is an apt description. From what the director said, the owners of properties around the golf course have piles of dirt surrounding their properties as well as trees planted so that they have now lost their sea views. All this so that the wealthy golf members don't have to see what the Donald described as run down properties. One homeowner found that his water and electricity were shut off because of his objections to the project. It is in the village of Montrose,a gorgeous area, that is about an hour south of Aberdeen. The beach and the views go on for miles. I'm sure this saga is going to go on for a long time.
As far as Aberdeen goes, it is located on the north east coast. A small city that has a large fishing industry and was known, when we were there, as the oil capital of Europe. It might still be known as that. As far as traditional music. The music that played in the pubs and clubs was the music of the time. Sheena Easton, Depeche Mode, Human League, Duran Duran. I do have to say that I love bag pipes and could listen to them for hours on end. As far as getting to the Orkneys from Aberdeen, I suppose you could but I don't recall any ferries from Aberdeen to the islands. Because they are located off the very north of Scotland, I would assume you would take a ferry from there. You said you spent a lot of time there in the 80's. We were there in the early eighties. Where did you spend your time?

It's widely regarded as one of the best "reality shows" ever made, although I think it's more aptly called a documentary. Reality show isn't really fair to what it is. Not only is it a brutally honest look at how hard many small farms struggle, but it ended up chronicling the breakdown of a marriage. Wouldn't you know it, another reality show family ends up breaking up.

Readerlady - thank you SO much! I knew you'd have some helpful advice. I'm west of Delaware and south of you. So those shelters are great options for us. The kitten has made it into our basement because my daughter convinced my husband that the garage is just too hot for a kitten! That little thing is a total snuggle bunny already! She is just precious. Hasn't used the litter box yet though. When I was holding her she let out a few stinkies. : ) So I told my husband about the two rescues you mentioned. I said, "So, do you want to take her to one of those?" He said, "I don't know . . . "
And he's not the animal lover around here! The kids keep wanting to name her. I said we can name her The Cat We Don't Want.
So here's Mr. Malaprop's question - do you know of any places that do shots, neutering, etc. for cheap? His biggest issue with keeping her is the vet bills. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats already.

1) Jon does an interview with Star magazine claiming to be broke and unable to pay rent because he has to pay CS. (Was this article published in print or just on radaronline?)
2) Kate's attorney shoots back that Jon was relieved of paying CS back at the end of April and only owes whatever he was in arrears on from the past.
3) Admin shares from a source that Jon no longer pays CS to Kate because he was awarded 50/50 custody.
4) Someone on 15 minutes shares that Jon is no longer employed at the sports center, that he only worked their 8 weeks.
5) Jon tweets that he is heading into work on Monday. He does not state where.
6) Jon deletes his Twitter account.
You know, I hope these two nitwits get it figured out and don't scar their kids to badly. They're both pathetic IMO.

High St. in Columbus -- I think Clintonville, or there abouts. It's S of Worthington and N of Whetstone, anyway. I've never taken a pet there, but a friend of mine has used it a number of times and speaks very highly of the vet there. Dr. Trego, or Treger -- something like that. They ONLY do vaccs and speuter, nothing else. Whatever you do, DON'T go to the Delaware shelter clinic. They have a terrible reputation.

Oh, you may know this, but Juanita and Darrell (sp) both remarried, and D kept the farm. J furthered her education and still works in the financial aspects of farm management Audrey, the oldest girl, was in trouble for a number of DUIs. Also a leaving scene of accident and MIP. Abby and Whitney both became party girls. all three went to college I believe in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Juanita's married name is Hastings. she finally could afford to get her dentistry problems fixed.
The family was paid nothing. They did receive a lot of donations they were grateful for, though.

A child when they are an ADULT are the ones to tell their parents what the good memories are. Not the other way around.
Readerlady - I will be sure to look into those clinics. And thanks for the heads up about Delaware! Now I have another question (sorry!) - at what age should we take her in for fixing and shots? It's been a long time since we've had such a young kitten. I'm guessing she's just about 6 weeks right now. I wish I could show you a picture - she's really cute. So here's the issue for us now; my SIL texted my son and said she might be interested in taking the kitten. She has one indoor cat, and last fall she brought home a kitten to be an outside cat. That cat has since run away (Or been killed. Who knows?). But during the winter my SIL wouldn't leave her garage door up a little so the cat could get in for shelter and food. She didn't want critters getting in her garage, so if the cat wasn't in by dark, the door went down. I don't want to give her this kitten!!! We're going to have to make a decision about keeping it or sending it to a shelter here pretty soon. My husband is pretty sure we're going to keep it. I told him that our kids will always remember all their pets and taking in strays, but they'll never have fond memories of a quiet, spotless house!

Ohhhh Dwindle -- HUGE Neil Diamond fan here, too. Just keep those paddles on standbye, LOL! He does an AMAZING show! Another senior performer who is still going strong is Bobby Vinton. I don't think he tours any more, but he has a theater in Branson, Mo. and does nightly shows. A friend of mine was there about a year ago and says he's on stage for over 2 hours, plays 7 or 8 instruments during the show, and sings all his old hits plus some newer music.

Kate was right about one thing. It's easier to pimp out a herd of babies than older kids. Very few people find older kids, especially other people's older kids, either interesting or cute.
Even fewer like food messes on their monitors or on their TVs.

Look Kate if you want to do a guac commercial just fill a big decorative bowl heaping full of chips and have the eight kids rush the table to get to the guac while you snap pics. Simple as that.
Mrs. Malaprop -- Normally, I would start to vaccinate my kits at about 12 weeks old, since they had maternal antibodies, but you don't know if the kitten has maternal antibodies so the sooner, the better. She should also be tested for FIV and FELV. Spaying -- If the vet practices pediatric speutering, about 10 - 12 weeks. If not, around 5 months, but don't let her around any unneutered males :). I agree with you about letting her go to your SIL unless she promises to keep her an indoor only cat and you trust her to keep that promise. Cats don't really NEED to go out, even tho some of them might tell you otherwise, LOL. They are much safer and healthier if they're kept indoors.
My first thought on the pic was if she liked it so much why didn't she eat it, instead of playing with it. When will she ever learn that her kids are not toddlers anymore and there will never be another "H. pooped in H's underwears" moment. Who in the world would want to suck guacamole from a sack tube and why? Gross and disgusting. Instead of letting her kids act their age she encourages them to act like they are still little. I don't get it?

Bobby Rydell, Frankie Avalon and Fabian are still touring together. Bobby Vinton is still touring. Just saw him this summer. He's in Ocean Grove, NJ, in a few weeks.

That photo is staged. A child of that age would not play with their food like that. That is something that a 4 year old would do. Also, how could she possibly get it all over her without getting any on her clothing?!

Come on now kate we've all tried to open a plactic squeze pack of something and it has never hit us so as to be artfully placed on the arm and a tiny bit in the hair. Funny how what is so cute and funny when kids are toddlers, when they are this age, the same thing is decidedly rude, uncouth, and just downright bad manners. It's really sad Kate can't accept these children for who they are, eight year olds.

A stray cat had five kittens once in the brush at this church a block away from me and I was worried about them and called the Humane Society. They told me really the best thing to do was leave them be because if I brought them in they would be euthanized. I was shocked and horrified.

This is to encourage folks to bring in strays that they find, even if folks feel the need to release them back onto the 'streets'. It sounded cruel to me, but I have seen cats down there that have the snip in the ear, you cant really see it until you look, and I suppose it is for the best.
My point is, dont be too surprised or mortified if you hear of such a thing in your area.

Juanita said they got free marriage therapy when they realized from filming how bad things were in the family. In their case, you could see the breakup was inevitable. I was sad the kids got into trouble, although many teens do.
I don't think it was from doing the doc- it was a very small crew and they weren't encouraged to call them Daddy.

Channeling Katie Irene here: But, but, they're MY kids!! I only had them in order to become famous, spending 50 weeks on bedrest for them, sacrificing, grifting matching cribs, formula, food, diapers, groceries, name brand clothing, toys, crooked houses, etc. As the fame, gift cards, and $$ rolled in, I kicked their father, my friends, and our families to the curb because they didn't know how to help me/disagreed with me, took up with my married silver-haired bodyguard, and left them with nannies while I pursued the bright lights of Hollywood television stardom and went on talk shows crying and moaning about how hard my life has been/throwing my ex-husband under the bus. Now that I haven't worked for almost a year in my chosen field, TV, it's time for them to earn their keep again!!

Cruisin -- I didn't know Vinton was still touring. Thanks for that information. He's another who does(did) great shows. I've seen him in concert several times, although the last time was about 20 years ago. Another performer who does a great show is Barry Manilow. What's really impressive about a lot of these performers is that they've really studied music, not just picked up a guitar and learned a few chords. Sedaka graduated from Juilliard. Vinton has a degree in music from Duquesne. Diamond studied music at NYU, although I think he was a pre-med student. Manilow studied at Juilliard. I'm sure many others also have formal music training, but I don't know off-hand. Not many of the younger music stars can say the same. Beyonce is classically trained, but off-hand, I don't know of any others.

As far as Kate encouraging the 8 year olds to act like toddlers...we all know she has always tried to get people to think they are younger than they are..thus "the littles". The problem is that Kate NEVER allowed them to do the things that toddlers do!! Ie: get paint or play dough on their clothes, roll down a grassy hill cuz their clothes would get dirty, eat ANY type of food/icecream unless covered from head to toe in body bibs. It's almost like she is having them live out the things they should have done as toddlers at the age of 8 and that only makes her look crazier!! What a nut job!
Once in the case of the Farmer's Wife I tend to agree it was not the documentary that caused them problems. Without a doubt they would have divorced anyway. I think the only ethical question is should such a private thing be shown, is it okay because you're in the middle of telling a great story.
If I recall the director said he didn't really set out to tell this particular story of Juanita but the more and more he filmed the more he realized it was HER story and ended up making a documentary about her instead of just the family in general. Interesting.
Frankie Vallie's coming to the Cape Cod Melody Tent at the end of the month and we got tickets. Yeah! We saw Jersey Boys last year in Boston and it was awesome.

That is part of why that Snip The Ear low cost program is a decent idea. Maybe you dont mind a few strays in the area, keeping the moles and voles and mice in check. But a few strays translates to 100 strays by this time next year. I know someone who lives in a trailer park - excuse me, Mobile Home Park.- it is really lovely with 2200 sq foot homes etc, but they have a terrible mice problem, all living in seasonal comfort UNDER the homes! Several years ago a few residents brought a few kittens in, spayed and neutered and vaccinated. The cats keep the mice eliminated and once a year my friend rounds up the cats for vet visits. i know outdoor cats is not everyone's comfort level, but this sure worked for their area.

As someone very involved with cat rescue, I want to point out that ear tipping is not cruel, although I understand why it might be perceived that way. It's done under anesthesia while the cat is being spayed or neutered and heals very quickly. The benefits are tremendous. It lets other rescuers involved in trap/neuter/release of ferals know that the cat has been taken care of, so you don't end up with a poor animal going through surgery more than once. In addition,in many cities, animal control will not pick up ear tipped cats because they know they are being cared for, so the cats do not end up euthanized. Rescuers involve in trap/neuter/release don't just dump the cats back on the streets, they make sure that there is a "colony manager" responsible for feeding them.)
Dwindle -- Most TNR (Trap, neuter, release) programs notch the ear of a cat to show it's been altered. The TNR program has been recognized as an effective and safe way to manage feral cat populations. Unfortunately, some areas still don't recognize it and even try to prosecute people who do it. Unfortunately, most of the cats are hard-core ferals who would never adapt to being a pet.

Admin: I agree...I read that too about the story's focus shifting to Juanita. I think Juanita especially agreed to do the film to showcase the plight of the family farm disappearing in the united States and what a shame that would be. As for privacy she said in a town of 350, everyone knew their problems anyhow. But I agree it was a bit personal for most people to choose to film. J said if people act a certain way in private why not show it in public- it doesn't change the behavior. I think they would have gone under and broke up much sooner if not for her true grit.She seemed to be smart, funny and a devoted mom.

Readerlady - thank you, again. I will make some calls tomorrow and see what I can line up. It's been a madhouse around here with our Cockapoo puppy and German Shepherd. The GSD wants to drool all over the kitten, and the cockapoo wants it to run so he can chase it. The kitten has tried to pounce on the cockapoo's wagging tail which has totally freaked the dog out. This is one confident, tiny cat!! Hasn't tried to run and hide from the dogs at all.
Dwindle - how interesting regarding snipping the ears. I've never heard of that. If I take it to a low-cost clinic I'll be sure to ask about that.
Admin- I will ask before taking this little thing anywhere. I guess strays are drawn to our family for a reason. There's a farm near us with a Free Kittens sign in the yard. Johnny Mathis still has it, too. It's a very low-key show, non-stop songs, but very good. Paul Anka puts on an amazing show. These guys still have what it takes to keep the fans happy.

Cruisin -- Maybe, in a way, they do have to work. Not from a financial standpoint but from an emotional standpoint. They are all gifted performers, and when a gift is ignored or denied, it can cause all sorts of emotional issues. They get intangible rewards and validation from pleasing their fans.

Generally about guacamole: I've tried that brand, but guac is so incredibly easy to make, I see no point in paying five bucks for a bag of it. Smash a ripe avocado, add chopped tomato, a little salt, and lime juice and cilantro if you want. Onion if you want, but not required. Really it's just avocado, tomato and a pinch of salt. Done.

It's interesting and creepy how incredibly upset they are about the 50/50 custody. I said it before, it's because it destroys Kate's carefully crafted persona of Super Mom Doing It All. And furthermore, it messes up the idea of Jon as slacker.

Oh, I agree with that. I meant from a financial standpoint. They have made their money. I have spoken to many performers and they all agree that without performing, their lives would be meaningless. Making their fans happy and putting on a memorable show is all they have known their entire lives. Giving it up, emotionally, would be extremely difficult.
I remember one time when I asked the wife of one celebrity performer what she will do when her husband retires, and her reply was that he is never going to retire because if he does, it would be mean the end of his life. Another wife jokingly said that if her husband retires, it will be the end of HER life because she will be at home with him and he would drive her crazy because he would be itching to get out on the road.
I think veteran performers are like old soldiers...they don't die, they just fade away.

You guys forgot the Temptations, I think they are all dead but the new Temptations sound really good! God, I loved all their songs! I've seen Neil Diamond he is great! I also like Rod Stuart! If I went to a booth and they had free samples for interested comsumers, I would not take one for EVERY member of my family++. I take one!

Cruising I've often wondered how healthy that is to be so dedicated to one's fans. I've noticed that Justin Bieber seems truly obligated to his fans. He lives for it. In his documentary he bashed his head into glass and passed out and yet still wanted to go on TV and do the spot for the fans. On the one hand I think it's great to appreciate your fans, on the other hand I think there has to be a balance too. You can live for a bunch of strangers.
Oh my god, I haven't thought about The Farmers Wife in YEARS! I saw it years ago (I was in my late 20's) and thought it was amazing! I highly recommend watching it, its such a wonderful documentary, you become so involved with this family and their story. It really struck a cord with me, this family could have been a struggling farming family from anywhere.
The scene that always comes to mind when I think of The Famers Wife is the very last scene of (I think) the second film when Juanita and Darrell are painting the outside of the house together. They were just painting and chatting and it was such a playful and sweet moment with the two of them. I was really sad to hear they divorced.
Thanks so much for jagging my memory of it, I'm going to have to watch it again, it has to be over 10 years since I've seen it.

My husband's skinflint millionaire aunt and uncle used to take all the little sugar packets off restaurant tables. And the jams, and the peanut butters and the creamers. They'd also take extra squares from the dessert cart, wrap them in napkins and eat them at home. Some people are just plain greedy no matter how much they have.
Tomorrow I am stopping at the local grocery store on my way home from work. It’s a Harris Teeter and they put out lots of samples out for the customers.
I decided I will take a cooler with Tupperware containers and collect my FREE samples – at least 20 of each (maybe more since according to Kate everyone does it). One for me, 7 for each of my 7 kids, 5 for my kids ‘ friends who will most likely be stopping over, 3 for my neighbor and her 2 small kids who like to visit, and 4 for another neighbor’s Uncle’s cousins who may visit.
I ‘ll have a complete meal for FREE thanks to HT with a variety of deli meats, cheeses, fruits, bread and butter/jams, and even desert (cookies and cake or pie)! Wholly Guacamole thanks for the GRIFTING idea Kate!

I agree. And I think it all boils down to most sheeple being horribly unhappy women in their own lives. They hate hate hate the father of their own children, or the fact that they have never had the opportunity to marry happily at all. In Jon they get to take out a little of their anger at their own situations. They cannot cope with the estranged men in their own lives.
In kate they see someone who gave birth twice and made alot of money off it. Then she made even more money by being a DivaBitch. And sheeple think "*I* could do that!!!"
They dont care about young children having healthy relationships with mommy and with daddy. They care about hurting the person they hate, using children as their god-given-coz-I-birthed-em weapons.
