The Farmer's Wife: A rare case of when not paying a family for their work is a good thing

This week: Part Two

Realitytvkids.com will be organizing an official summer "book club" screening of The Farmer's Wife. Watch Part 2 the week of August 12, and Part 3 (link to come) the week of August 19 and discuss it as you go with all the interesting folks here. If you missed Part 1 it can be found here .

Juanita faithfully cleaned houses to make ends meet during filming.
The public was outraged when TLC disclosed in 2010 that the first time they ever set up a trust fund for a portion of the Gosselin children's earnings wasn't until November 2009, some four years after they first put the children on T.V. in May 2006. Up until then, the children had never been directly paid (Jon and Kate however have always been paid.)

Many advocacy groups for entertainers believe that reality stars, adults and children alike, should be treated as SAG members and paid fairly for their work (SAG regulations require that actors make a minimum of $4,800 per week). However some reality show productions do not pay, often because they cannot afford to.

Such was the case for filmmaker David Sutherland, the creator of The Farmer's Wife. His tight budget simply didn't allow him to give the Buschkoetters any payment for their three years of work. He even dipped into his retirement savings to fund the $1.3 million project. (Many donations from around the country however came in once the show aired.)

The result was a virtually untouched, brutally honest story of one family's struggle to make ends meet and save a marriage. The filmmaking was so intimate, the crew even once followed Juanita to a meeting with a particularly stubborn creditor as she negotiated their debt with him, successfully.

There were no "make-over" episodes or luxurious trips or other nonsense. Instead we watched a family fall down, hard, then pick themselves up, brush themselves off and figure out a way to make it on their own. If Sutherland had paid the family, it certainly would have helped them put food on the table. But would the story be as "pure"? Would we still be talking about this film fifteen years later? Probably not.

"It's tough watching it," Juanita was once quoted, "Only because it's really what life was like the last three years, really real."

Indeed, the "realest reality show" ever was not Jon and Kate. It was The Farmer's Wife.

I think you should be able to express your point of view without being put down or attacked! I like to hear what other people have to say, call me crazy, but I find that interesting!

One more thing , my kids will not let me eat or drink things that have Tans Fat, and coffee mate has trans fat! Not good!!

I got curious about Theft of Services in CA and it looks like they've merged it with the general "theft" provision in the penal code:

"or obtains the labor or service of another, is guilty of theft."

And lookie here, it also says this: "or who causes or procures others to report falsely of his or her wealth or mercantile character and by thus imposing upon any person, obtains credit and thereby fraudulently gets or obtains possession of money, or property or obtains the labor or service of another, is guilty of theft."

So let me get this straight, if you lie about your wealth and get money from others on the backs of those lies, you are guilty of THEFT?

Hey Kate, it's about time for another trip to Los Angeles ain't it?

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 3

Tomatos color me surprised as well we haven't elected a woman yet. I find that strange. I think what with the elections being so close lately and Sarah Palin kind of blowing that ticket, there was no way Romney was going to do anything but play it safe. I guess a woman is still considered not a safe bet.

No matter where Kate went, I guarantee you that the young man in the photo with the sitter and kids at the beach has got to be one of Steve's sons. Really looks like one of those boys with the build and dark hair.

I skimmed his Twitter and he lives in North Carolina and tweeted the above this morning so it's pretty safe to assume Kate's on a road trip heading home and isn't going cruising nor did she meet her cruising tweetie for lunch yesterday. Kate's email was just a way to placate any cruisers she stiffed. Figures.

TLC stinks said... 8

BTW, that post on GWOP about a Kate siting at Fenwick in Delaware was by anonymous, so I think it was just some mischief maker. The tweet about a Denny's in NC is probably the real deal.

TLC stinks said... 9

Yep. She never had any intention of meeting with those cruisers in FL. She used her vacay in NC as an excuse.

I wish the tweeter had commented on who she was with.

So if this was tweeted in the a.m. today, I assume they were at Denny's for breakfast? Must have been staying not too far away then. What town is the tweeter from?

Tweet-le De Tweet-le DUMB said... 11

Not sure what town. I didn't read too far. Was just trying to confirm Kate was in the south and wasn't cruising.

RE: THEFT OF SERVICES. I have bridges top and bottom front. One tooth beside a bridge had loosened and "died." It got to the point where it needed to come out right away, with the intent of replacing it with a flipper. I had just moved to a new town (to raise my gs) and knew no one. I ran my finger down the yellow pages and picked a "family" dentist. I thought he would be more reasonably priced, somehow.

I call and say I need a loose tooth pulled and they said oh it is an emergency and told me to come in right away. I am there and the dentist walks in and says his hello and I say I have a loose tooth that needs to be pulled. He took offense and said I am the doctor here and I will decide what is best. I need to first get x-rays and then and we will see if we can save it (to a woman with a mouthful of bridges).

I said something back to him that changed the dyanamics (not in a good way) of the entire visit. I said it is not a vital organ. It is replacable. I just want it pulled without fanfare. There is no need for x-rays, it is LOOSE. His face turned red and he walked out but not before saying you need to talk to the office manager. I am still reclined in the chair with a bib.

I am trying to get up to leave when in comes THE office manager from hell. She says you need to pay $200 cash right now and IF he does the extraction that will be another $200. I say I didn't receive the service that I requested when making the appointment. I am leaving. She said if you leave this office without paying the $200 "emergency" consult and evaluation fee I will have you arrested for THEFT OF SERVICES. She was well versed in this, and it was not her first rodeo in that regard. I am angry now and say I didn't receive any services and there was no consult. I came here to get one tooth pulled and it is still there so I am leaving. She is like you will regret it TRUST me.

I get home and the phone is ringing. It is her, and she says I have the police department on the other line and I wanted to give you one last chance to pay your bill before I have you arrested for THEFT OF SERVICE. I am fed up and I say, you know what, I am going to bring you $200 over there and he is going to pull my tooth and I am not paying another dime. She said okay and I did and he did and that was the end of that.

So, yes, theft of services is alive and well. I have never stolen so much as a piece of bubble gum in my entire life and almost got charged with theft of service. If I had my thinking cap on I would said if you charge me with theft of services I will charge you with theft by deception because I was led to believe that I was to come in and he was to pull my tooth immediately, without trying to sell me a bill of goods. But, no, she blindsided me with that one.

Layla said... 28

Berks Neighbor,
Your "spotting" came first! It's up there for everyone to see.
Is it possible that Kate is leaving BHI and driving the rest of the way to FL to meet the cruisers? If she left at an early hour, headed inland to get on 95, and then went South, she could make it in time to meet with them later today. I also wonder if Milo will be joining them. She is on her way to Orlando to go to Universal Studios right now--funny that she heads to Fl at the same time that Kate "might" be there. Either way, if the cruiser (CJ) finds out that Kate was so close (NC) and didn't bother to come to FL to meet her, she should be really angry. That would show how little Kate cares for her fans--won't drive a few hours to honor a promise to them. But the fans would all overlook it, I'm sure --"Oh, Kate's so busy, busy, busy...". She is free to walk all one them as much as she wants. They must like being dumped on. Low self-esteem, perhaps?

By the way, my aunt has a beach house on Fenwick Island, and I will be seeing her today. I'll ask if there's been any talk of Kate sightings, although I doubt that anyone would say much about it. Her FI neighbors like their privacy, and wouldn't be impressed by the likes of Kate. Kate will be crowing about her pap-free vacation, but I bet she's just a little disappointed that they didn't even come looking for her, after she made sure the whole world knew she was at the beach.

Tweet-le De Tweet-le DUMB said... 29

Layla, for whatever reason, it eludes me, I've been kind of following Kate via miscellaneous tweets. She was spotted in Alabama late last week by someone from Alabama who tweeeted something about knowing Kate got good service on her car. Then Friday another someone from Alabama tweeted that her cousins met Kate at the beach. Now we have a tweet this morning from someone who saw her at Denny's in North Carolina.

I'm very sure she was at some Gulf type beach around Alabama, then they started their drive back home, going through N.C. this am.

She's not meeting any cruisers.

TLC stinks said... 30

Well, her cryptic tweet yesterday about not being able to find coffee all morning and the Coffemate in the cooler could be her saying that they were already on the road. Perhaps she was in AL. And yes, she could be heading south instead of north but I really believe they are heading home. I never bought into the Alabama beach because it's such a hell of a long drive, but driving would be better for privacy.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 31

She sure was good about planning this trip exactly when she said she'd try to meet up with the cruisers. Now they can't be mad at her because because, aw shucks, she's just trying to give the kids a little vacation.

TLC stinks said... 32

Tweet-le, if she (er, Steve) drove all the way to AL, then it just had to be grifted when there so many nice beaches closer.

Berks Neighbor said... 33

TLC Stinks and Tweedle...apology accepted. Please accept this bottle of homemade Rumschripnga for each of you as a peace offering ;-)
I bet Kate's on her way home. Perhaps I'll see her in my out and about tomorrow? I'm sure she'll have to be hitting up Target soon.

I was just thinking that instead of YouTube (which every teenage kid has now) Kate might be wanting to set up a wildlife camera in various areas of her home. That way, with a monthly subscription, you can watch what goes on all day long in the Gosselin household without her having to tweet about it day in and day out.
It could be like one of those wild life cameras at a watering hole in the Serengeti.

TLC stinks said... 34

Funny, Berks. However, Kate would never set up a camera because we may catch Steve in his " unnerwears".

Tweet-le De Tweet-le DUMB said... 35

Stinky (hope you don't mind the nickname :)), purely speculation on my part--I figured when Kate tweeted "help from friends" she meant friends loaned, paid for or invited her to a beach house. After the first couple spottings I figured they were at a beach house in Alabama. And by the way, what photo are you talking about with Steve and one of his sons?
::::

Berks, thanks so much for the Rumschripnga. Not sure I'll be able to save it for the party. I might want to do some taste testing before then.

Looking at the picture of the coffeemate, it looks like they are in the Dodge Sprinter, the original Big Blue Bus. I google image searched dashboards for the Mercedes Sprinter and the Dodge Sprinter, and that steering wheel and odometer is definitely from the original Big Blue Bus. Either that is an old photo of the coffeemate, or perhaps the new Black Mercedes Bus is a lease and she could not put too many miles on it. Maybe she borrowed the old BBB from Jon? Is that why a repair was needed in Alabama? A new Mercedes bus should not need repairs so soon, should it?

Her dating show idea will never work if it comes out that she is already with Steve. I think the show idea is a cover because she is all about deceit. As long as Steve is hanging around, there will never be any opportunity for her to have a true relationship, so the fact that he is a package deal in all that she does ruins the whole concept she is pushing. She just doesn't get how stupid her idea is.

If she got someone to give her a beach house free, that just makes my blood boil. How many "I wish"es and "oh if we could go to the beach"es did she tweet? I am a divorced mom with an unemployed ex who uses my tax refund every year to make sure my daughter has a vacation in OBX every year. I split the cost with my sister. Otherwise I live paycheck to paycheck. If I tweeted something and someone offered me something for free I would be so embarrassed. I can't IMAGINE doing it on purpose to get free stuff when I live in a mansion and send my kids to private school. Now I'm pizzed.

TLC stinks said... 61

Yes, that is the Mercedes dash. She did not take the old BBB on the trip. So much for that theory. Perhaps she is not leasing it. It's not that expensive for such a big vehicle.

We know Kate took credit for setting up bank accounts for her children, she implying Jon was otherwise going to spend their money, and then we have the production company revealing the courts forced them into it, and it was hastily done, to seek compliance, not to protect the children. I don't know how Kate can keep spinning her bullshit.

If Gina is so private, then why did she visit the Konpound several times knowing that the paps were taking pictures? I do hope that Gina and Steve are together and Kate does not get what she wants (for once).

Guess she was in Alabama. Why on earth would anyone drive that far, unless one of her many newly found friends provided the beach house and amenities for free. Gulf shores is very nice. She so reminds me of my rich uncle who says the only good price for anything is FREE. He does get lots of free stuff and I'm "like" how do you do that and he says I ask. I'm "like" but you drove all that way, and he says that is okay, because it is free. He is so trying to teach me the concept, but I just don't get it. I would never ask for anything for free for fear of rejection I guess.

He has a farm and gets truckloads of free bread, produce, and even chips (most of which is still fresh) to feed his farm animals. Chickens, goats, and horses in particular will eat just about anything. Needless to say, his farm animals are very fat and healthy. He says the sweet feed and hay are the meat and the free stuff is gravy. He used to keep some of his horses in our pasture (yes for free just to look at and enjoy). Neighbors would come by to pet them and couldn't get them to come. I could call them up from the far end of pasture with one whistle, because they knew I would have bread for them. He would laugh and say how is that free bread working for you. I could only say, great. I always knew he was coming long before he got there because they would throw their head up, and start coming up, before he even turned onto the road. They LOVED him dearly.

Sorry for all the long posts. I am off today, and putting off my to do list (which is in my head not on my phone).

Wowser said... 71

I think Kate likes all the speculation which is why she doesn't say anything! Of course she dignifies that reaction with the usual "it doesn't matter what people think...but I won't stoop to their level by giving them a reaction..it's no none's business..we know the truth". But inside her head she is living a fantasy and she certainly has an emotional attachment to skeeve.

Maybe the young man in the picture is just some random person that just stepped into the frame as Kate was snapping the picture (that's what I'd claim if I were her, plausible denial). If they were in Alabama she might have had time to get to FL for the lunch. I'm waiting for the "so fun to meet you at our lunch" tweets. Ok, here's another theory. What if the BBB could not hold all the luggage plus the nanny? What if they needed a car to follow with luggage, nanny, and any overflow passengers? What if the other driver were Steve's son? I only bring this up because on a vacay we took one time we had to do this and my daughter drove behind us. Just throwing that out there as to why he would be there.

On a happier note, for those fellow insomniacs and readers, just want to share one of my favorite authors (yeah, I know I have so many...)

Just finished a book by Steve Martini. He writes crime/suspense novels with a protagonist named Paul Madriani. I just LOVE the way this man writes!!! His text is tight, his descriptions are so visual. Every page is a delight...

I'm currently in the process of completing my library (not as pretentious as it sounds, really). I love to read my books over and over, and seem to get something new each time I read them. There are about 8 or 9 authors I love and I'm collecting each of their books.

I swear I have so much fun in old bookstores - love the smell and ambiance.

Geez, talk about lively debates about religion - have you witnessed any talks between 'real book' vs Kindle lovers??? Oy, what a heated debate arises between those two. LOL

Love old book stores, old books, any books! I often buy a few at my local library. They always have a couple of carts of discarded books - mostly hard cover, and I've found some treasures for $1. It makes for a great variety of reading material. Love putting them on my tables, shelves etc. to look at and loan out and/or reread.

I'm not a Kindle person. I'm on a very, very tight budget and don't want the temptation to buy a best seller. Plus I love the feel and looks of real books.

Isn't the cruise today? What time does it sail? I would never do that -- fly in there the same day as embarkation. There are too many things that can go wrong, such as flight delay, bad weather, etc. You get there the day before the cruise and use the hotel shuttle to take you to the port. If there is a flight delay, the ship is not going to wait for you.

My opinion is that Kate went on vacation with Deanna and 'her man' (Deanna's man, not Kate's blow up doll boyfriend) and the kids.

Not Steve nor his family.
The lack of pictures of Gina makes me think that Gina can't stand Kate and she puts up with Steve having to be the purse carrier because Gina doesn't mind the extra money it brings in.

Kate really doesn't have many friends and it's pretty sad that the only ones she seems to have are all somehow related to having had to be paid by her in some form or another. She hasn't made friends with any of her twitter tweeps beyond the joint accolades back and forth. No one has become close with her, even if they live nearby.

++++++++++++

I've made that trip many times, and with Florida traffic, you can't get from Bald Head Island to Ft. Lauderdale in less than 12 hours (more like 13) and certainly not in time to meet anyone for a meal today before a cruise.

If she left BHI very very early this morning then yes, she could be home by now. I've made the drive in under nine hours. Sounds more to me like she drove home yesterday (looking for coffee).

As someone pointed out, the car that was in the photo with the Coffee Mate, was NOT a car registered in PA because it had no PA registration sticker in the lower left corner of the windshield. If it was, she'd driving it illegally.

If the young man in the one pix is indeed Skeeve's son, perhaps KK hired the boys to work as kid wranglers for the vacay. If they know their way around the water, it would make sense to have more people to watch her kids. That'd free her up to make time with Skeeve.

Look, if you don't see Gina visiting Kate Gosselin with or without her husband then obviously there's an issue at hand. He traveled to Las Vegas for HER BIRTHDAY at that comedy club did he not? Highly improper if you ask me. Surely she has ONE FRIEND se could have invited along (read Jamie) for a night out in Sin City. And even if she didn't, why wasn't Gina along for the fun?

If she left early enough, she could make it. I live in Fort Lauderdale, not far from Port Everglades and the cruise ships. The airport is only about a mile away from the Port and I usually see the ships leave late in the afternoon, so an early morning flight would give her plenty of time. And no, I haven't heard about any Gosselin sightings in the area, lol.

No more packing a separate suitcase just to hold books! I was hospitalized for a week with pneumonia shortly after I got mine, and it was nice to have all those books at my fingertips. As Winsomeone said, the libraries have e-books to borrow, and if you belong to Amazon Prime, you can rent one book a month from Amazon for free. There's a wealth of free or very cheap books available for download. I set an arbitrary price in my mind of what I'll pay for an e-book, and I've only gone over that a few times. Each time it was a favorite author, whose book I would ordinarily buy in hardback, so that's worked out well for me. I've also picked up free or very cheap ($1 or $2) books from some of my favorite authors. It's a shame that there isn't some way to rent or borrow a Kindle to try one out. I bet there'd be a lot of converts!

As we all know, from Kate shoving it down everyones throats, she has been on her semi-weekly vacation and now has lots of exhausting overwhelming HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY things to do!!!!

Ok, so here is the scoop... shhhhh... (looks both ways)... let's gather around and lean in close...keep our voices down...

Scoop number #1 - Kate will MAKE A LIST of all her tasks and then tweet about it.

Scoop number #2 - the following is an exact relica of Kate's exhausting list for the better part of the coming week:
1 - Make To Do List
2 - Check off first item on list
3 - Tweet that you have now completed the first two items on your ToDo list
4 - Reward exhausted self with MEEE time vacation.

I know, I know, you are wondering HOW I came into this secret information. Well, I would tell ya but then I'd have to drown ya in Rumspringa mixed with box o wine.

I admire an organized and masterminding woman who can make and then complete a list like that all all all alone with only 3 or 4 hired hands to assist. Whew.

My daughter the bibliophile and bookworm, got me one for a combo Xmas/Bday gift this year. I didnt think I would love it quite as much as I do. Readerlady, having an e-reader when hospitalized sounds like a dream come true! Nothing like the ability to just have 100 books or so at your fingertips!!

Daughter put me on her own Amazon Prime account and the borrowing thing is working out very well for us. Having the 2 kindles on one account makes it very easy for us to share/exchange purchased books too. I dont use my kindle as a computer, it is just the small kindle with a full screen but no seperate keypad (Keypad is popup)I just use it for reading, it is so small and lightweight and doesnt hurt my wrist to hold a large book anymore etc. Pops in and out of my purse... I just wish my cover that dear daughter got me had a light in it, but I manage as is.

Actually DD gave her 83 year old housebound grandmother her old first generation Kindle and it is working out so well for them! DD hunts and scopes out books of interest for her gma and sends them to her. Gma used to go to the library twice a week faithfully but cant get out much anymore. My daughter set up basic internet in the house for Gma and this is just working out so well for them, what with all of my daughters being out of state now. This is my ex mother in law, but it does my heart good to see her enjoying her books SO MUCH with the system my daughter set up for her. So if anyone is leary of trying one, think of that dear 83 year old managing a first generation Kindle all on her own.

Mrs. Malaprop,

Thanks for giving me the heads up - I did go back to read your post.

As usual, it was kind and non-judgemental. I appreciate where you are coming from and the graciousness of your words.

While we don't exactly agree on the final outcome, we both agree that seeking and the journey are worthwhile.

I am respectful of anyone who lives a kind, giving, honest, thoughtful and purposeful life, accepting of others. I have many friends of vastly different faiths, Jewish, Hindi, Buddhist, Protestants, Catholic, both strict and not so strict, many gay friends and my brother was gay. I love each and every one of them; it's such a warm and accepting circle. I actually feel very blessed.

AT my age, I am beginning to look inward. I think we all go through this - it's almost a generational right of passage.

I've come to seek peace within myself, and my philosophy allows me to do this.

I'm truly happy to hear that you've achieved the same peace in your faith. It's a good place to be, isn't it?!

And that, folks (as Bugs Bunny would say) is all she wrote............ :-) - pardon my philosophical droning! My last words on the subject, I pinky swear promise. LOL

Life is good; I wish this kind of life and peace for kart, Jon and the kids, but I'm skeptical.

Another member of this club, but to each his own waste of time. Who cares if Skeev's boys were on the trip, and if they were, maybe the tup boys actually got some male interaction other than their sisters and the girl nannies. If they were, tho, that's quite the house party if sheets and towels, dishes and grocery expense. Maybe 15 people, cannot even imagine Kate in that kind of chaos. And lord, the number of paper plates!

Folks, she's tweeting about her long drive and being home, why does anyone think the witch is in Florida? That cruise has long sailed off her radar, probably the minute it stopped being a freebie X4.

Jumping In said... 108

There is no obsession happening here, trust me. Perhaps the subtle nuances here are being lost on you. Firstly, the puzzle of Kate needs many enquiring minds to put a picture together as nothing ever is as it appears to be with her. I approach this endeavor more as a detective and amateur analyst who is curious about what drives the narcissistic behavior of a former reality television star who has an unhealthy obsession with fame.

Now, the "haters" and the over-zealous fans DO creep me out. But, I always have been a strong supporter of choice, and this site may not be the best place for you if you are feeling uncomfortable. It's not about the vehicle, or exactly where Kate is at any given moment, it's about untangling the facts from fiction. Look at all of this as a mystery novel, and don't take things so seriously, really.

I agree that the car conversation borders on obsession, and I am happy to see the kids went on vacation.

I'm with you, Dwindle on calling her out on her myriad lies. This is why I follow the blog. I read the series of Reading Eagle articles out of curiosity. What struck me was the info that when the tups were infants, there were 4 daily helpers, plus the certified nurse in that house every day, plus a nurse and aide at night. This leads one to believe that Kate was not doing much, if any, mothering from the very beginning. There were notes all over that house in the first special with directions for the "helpers", yet both Jon and Kate stated on camera that they did it alone. Why not come clean and tell the truth about the daily care from others that the babies received? Guess it didn't make for good TV.

I don't think she can tell the difference between truth and lies.

After I raved about mine my husband (who was reluctant to get one) had Kindle-envy and I ended up getting him one for Christmas. I've currently got 31 books loaded on mine. Some books are free and some you can get as low as 99 cents. I've also got an iPad (Christmas present from hubby because he forgot our anniversary) and have the Kindle app for it. I love that i can sync it to the last page read on my Kindle and just continuemto read on either one without skipping a beat. I've mentioned this before, there is no PA sticker on the windshield. It doesn't matter if it was an old photo. ALL PA cars MUST have a registration sticker on the lower left windshield (this law has been in effect forever), and if they are not diesel-exempt, they must also have an emissions inspection sticker next to it. Two stickers. There is none in that photo. Even if a vehicle is leased in PA, there must be an inspection sticker.

The tweet about Kate being on the cruise. Interesting. Either Kate's lying about being home, or the tweeter is having fun with this and didn't read Kate's tweet. I think this time I'd believe Kate (gasp). She wouldn't take a chance on being caught in a major whopper, would she?

Kate is Blind - I just saw that, too. The tweeter said earlier that she was on Allure of the Seas. Then tweeted "Holy Shyt (sic), Kate Gosselin and her 8 kids are on my cruise."

************************************************

That is odd.

How many Herman Munster-ish, shriveled-up-ish, leatherish, hooker heeled,dyed-blond-ish, hay-ish haired mothers with 8 little kids, that were originally scheduled to take a cruise with the Allure of Seas around this time, really exist out there besides Kate and her 8?

Shudders... If that liar is on that ship, she has alot of explaining to do to all her "fans" that had to cancel their trip.

Once a Viewer said... 138

Maybe she didn't want to cause a mob scene...but wouldn't business have been better for the cruise if she announced she was going with all 8,count 'em 8, kids? Her 'fans' will be so upset!

I also tend to think she's home. Could someone local please drive by the Konpound and check for signs of life?

(Now that's obsessive and stalker-ish, 'enough already' so i will add I'm kidding.)

SeeSaw said... 139

Just a guess, but I wonder if Kate will say she tweeted she was home until the ship sailed for "security reasons." Who knows. Seems odd that some random person would tweet that. I looked at her twitter feed and she's not involved in the fan/hater business at all and isn't a new tweeter either.

O.K. now I am curious about Kate's van. Since it doesn't have the two, or at least one sticker, are we to assume that the leasing was done by someone out of state. What else could have happened? I wonder what will happen this December when it will be a year. Talk about grifting, she received a $45,000 new van for running in Las Vegas. Wow, I am very curious for the details of how THAT happened. She sure is gifted in getting what she wants for free...or nearly free.

There were notes all over that house in the first special with directions for the "helpers", yet both Jon and Kate stated on camera that they did it alone.

There was one couch interview when Jon and Kate talked about spending a night alone without any helpers around. I think Kate said something like 'hey, we could do this'. Operative word "could".
So they did do it alone. For one night.

NO LIE.

I've had my Nook for two weeks now, and I love it! So far, I've purchased a few $1 books from Barnes & Noble and other e-books sites, just to test it. But the main reason I love my Nook is because I can download from my local library free of charge. You can do the same for Kindle as well.

I am a library-borrower (I rarely purchase books) and that is the main reason I haven't been interested in e-readers until now. Once I learned you can borrow books, I hinted to my husband and I received my Nook for my birthday.

Anyway - while it's true the newer books are not immediately available for loan, I simply put holds on some of the newer books and I already have been notified they are available. I think the main reason why you don't have to wait long is because the library limits the loan period to 3 weeks and there are no renewals. I went crazy and downloaded 10 books the first day from the library and I could only read 3 books during the 3-week period. Lesson learned!

Anyway, I just wanted to add my 2-cents to the e-reader subject.

She could always choose not to lie and then people wouldn't be so interested in which lie she's told now. She could also choose not to make her and the kids' lives public and then no one would care about the details.

But since she does make the details of her life public, I *am* interested in knowing the details of which van they drove.

You can lease a vehicle from any state. The key is if the van is registered in PA. Then she should have a PA license plate and sticker. I live in VA, leased my vehicle in VA, but my home of record is another state and that's where the car is registered. No VA plates or inspection sticker for me.

Reading a blog and making snarky comments is absolutely not stalking.

I remember someone on Twitter saying that Kate got the Mercedes free as a gift from the marathon people, but it was leased somewhere in Delaware (not sure of the state, though). If this is true and the owner of record is in that state, then would she, or wouldn't she, need a PA state inspections sticker?

However, there were so many of her tweets that specifically said that she bought the car. If she did, then she would need a PA inspections sticker. The Dodge definitely would have an inspections sticker. I bought a car in New Jersey, and it was registered and driven in PA and an inspections sticker was needed. If it were Steve's car and registered in Maryland, it would still need a MD state inspections sticker.

Gearing up for that chocolate Rumspringa at the brewery tomorrow!

====

It's odd how a person like Kate can say she doesn't care what anyone thinks and it can just grind your gears and another one can say the same words that leave you in total admiration of them.
Juanita so patiently tried to convince Darrel that he shouldn't care what anyone else thinks, they knew they were pulling themselves out of the hole and that was all that mattered.

That was another thing I really liked about that film. Without any histrionics, elbowing her husband in the ribs or rolling her eyes and playing to the camera, she'd just quietly come up with a profundity like telling Darrel that they were just as valuable as anyone else in the world. My eyes were damp more than once watching the Farmer's Wife.

Thanks, Auntie Ann, but this is one time when I don't trust my own instincts. It would be just like her to ditch her fans and do the cruise herself, as I predicted, but I'm totally baffled why she would tweet that she is home and unpacking if she's getting ready to live it up on the high seas.

Imagine, though, how pissed you would be if you were a sheeple who paid for the cruise, made travel arrangements, only to have her cancel it and go anyway? I'd be spitting tacks!

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone, too, but it's having to deal with Cindy that's throwing a wrench into everything!

Tweet-le De Tweet-le DUMB said... 177

Kate's world is weird! That's all I can say.

It's difficult to think someone could tweet they saw Kate and the eight kids and be mistaken, however, I'm wrestling with the idea that Kate would actually go to the trouble to tweet misinformation, send an apology of sorts email and then show her face on the cruise after some of her fans went to the trouble of booking other cruises because Kate had supposedly canceled.

That Kate would lie and say she canceled and it impacting people who paid out thousands to cruise with her puts her in another category.

Let's throw tomatoes said... 178

I have always read that people who stalk or try to hurt celebrities are big time fans and also a little sick! In all fairness to Kate , she really is a nobody and the only reason she is known is because she exploited her little babies, that she scams money from gullible people and companies, horrible daughter, sister, wife and friend and not very bright fans will follow her to the end of the Earth!

But for all of that she became a millionaire! Yep, she deserves to be speculated about!
Really do need to get out of here, maybe I'll buy myself something nice!

The timeline and tweets of this whole thing is insanely funny. She's seen at Denny's at 6 a.m. this morning in NC and is tweeting she's home at 10:30. Not possible. Not even with wings on her car. Then she's seen on a ship in Ft. Lauderdale this afternoon. Not possible. Not if she left NC this morning. She wouldn't get there before 7 p.m.

If the siting at Dennys was yesterday, then all of this would be possible. But why is she tweeting that she's at home, sweet home if she's on the cruise? Why would she lie?

True. But in life when you accuse someone of something and can't provide evidence for it, then the decent thing to do is to apologize. Nobody is holding their breath waiting for any apology. You're not that important. I guess, though, some are above making apologies, and if that is the way they choose to live their lives, then so be it. That goes with them. Que sera sera.

I don't think Kate and the kids are on the ship. Someone on twitter pointed out that the girl never said she SAW Kate and the kids, all she said was "Kate Gosselin is on my ship with her 8 kids!".

It just could be that she overheard or someone told her that Kate was supposed to be on this ship, and either she or the other person did not know that the Kate cruise had been cancelled.

It's like someone telling you "I heard so and so is also taking this cruise" and you tweet "guess who's also going on this cruise".

Also, if Kate were on the cruise, I doubt she would tweet she was home-too risky that someone on the cruise would spot her and take a picture. She may be stupid in some things she tweets-but she's not that stupid.

I don't encourage or for that matter allow people to post about driving by the house, the school, whatever. A few people did that back in the day and I drove them off the blog. Zero tolerance. There are people who legitimately live very close to them. My google analytics which tells me cursory information about the traffic actually shows that I get the most traffic from Pennsylvania, followed by California and New York. I can pin point it down to the Reading area. There are in FACT many locals here who in FACT might accidentally run into her just like I accidentally have run into celebs--it happens. If those people accidentally run into Kate, they are always welcome to post about it and they have.

I bet it is. Has to be. One reason I really like the group here is that we generally seem to have the same core moral stance even if we don't always agree on many other things. One being, leave these poor kids alone. Do NOT drive by, do NOT follow, do NOT take pics.
