The Farmer's Wife: When a reality show tells a truly important story

This week: Part One

Realitytvkids.com will be organizing an official summer "book club" screening of The Farmer's Wife. Watch Part 1 this week, Part 2 the week of August 12, and Part 3 (link to come) the week of August 19 and discuss it as you go with all the interesting folks here.

The Farmer's Wife first aired on PBS in 1998, a three part documentary, which was in essence a reality show, following three years in the life of Nebraska farmer Darrel Buschkoetter, and his strong but tender-hearted wife Juanita, along with their three sweet young girls.

The Farmer's Wife is one of the few great reality shows to ever grace our small screens. The Farmer's Wife had it all: tough, sincere characters, and a compelling story of hard work and perseverance in small-town America. Heartbreak, struggle, a marriage on the rocks, and the hope to keep a vanishing tradition alive drives this story.

Filmaker David Sutherland originally intended to profile several farming families in Nebraska. However as the project progressed, he became captivated with Juanita's story, and revamped the entire project to focus on her. Said Sutherland"She spoke from her heart, and her love for her husband Darrel's dream touched me deeply."

In the first episode, Juanita reflects on the plans they used to have to have six children. However it turned out three were all they could afford. Although Darrel never said so, Juanita worried he longed for a boy. And yet, said Juanita, "Sometimes I'm almost relieved we don't have a boy ... I'd be scared if we had a boy, he'd be the same way, and I don't know what the future for farming is."

Juanita's soft-spoken candor, and love and dedication to her family and to the farm, was a beautiful character study.

Most reality television out there has been better suited for the dust bin. Most stories need not and often should not be shared. Reality T.V. should just go away, especially shows that feature unprotected children. But once in a great while, a story comes along that should be told. Juanita's story does just that, capturing a moment in time in the late 1990's where a way of life in middle America was fading away, never to be the same again. Sutherland's series is both heartbreakingly tragic and inexplicably beautiful. Enjoy.

What's Next, it is a mystery why Jon is letting Kate and her lawyer say he has been absolved of all future child support when the State of PA does not give parents that right. Child support is for the children, not the parents, so as gracious as Kate wants to appear to be, she can't say 'no thanks Jon, I'll do this awn my own." The courts can, and if they did, there has to be a good reason, such as a 50/50 custody???? Regardless, Jon has the internet and a spokesperson and could set the record straight anytime he chooses. The fact he never does leads me to believe they are in cahoots to stay relevant so the money keeps coming into their pot.

++++++++++++++++

How does Jon keeping quiet about this keep the money coming in? He's not tweeting about it, nor making statements. If this was all done for publicity, he'd keep it going. It could be that Jon just doesn't want to get involved in another media frenzy and give Kate the chance to make television appearances to set the record straight! He's gone that route before.

It's unlikely that he would have made a statement about her shopping a dating show as "ridiculous" if this whole thing was part of a grand scheme for them to make money.

fidosmommy said...

I respectfully disagree that Jon is involved with Kate in anything except being a parent to
8 beautiful children. His relationship with her is simply to acknowledge that she is their mother and to show respect to her because of it.
Other than that, I think he's done with her.

Yes it does. Thankyou, friend. Foreclosure is a bad thing to anticipate. We seriously didnt expect it to resolve so quickly. Never in a million years. We are very blessed and lucky, we know that!

************************************
I second that fidosmommy. I think it finally just became very evident that Jon can split custody and have the kids more often, rather than struggling to pay Kate, who in turn would pay girls to watch the kids. It makes no sense for him to pay for his kids to be left with sitters all the time.

I wonder if this arrangement was proposed much earlier than this but Kate nixed it, wanting to see Jon struggle and squirm.

On a different note, 1406 comments!!! But according to the flock, it's only the same 7 people posting under different names, right? ;)

Thumbing through People this afternoon, I see several pics of celebs on vacation with their children. Not the celebs' "helpers & friends" but the celebs. Guess Kate forgot to have Milo tweet them her supersecret beach location.

Nags Head would be a great location for the party. If you get tired of Kate, you can go to the Wright Brothers Monument or Jockey's Ridge. Just don't drink too much rumspringa, or you might try to climb a lighthouse. I'm not wearing a bikini though. The paps might try to take my picture.

Speaking of Kate's er, um, good deed, I was reading a magazine article in the newly painted reading room just this morning - just a little insert story of Brad Pitt with a couple of candid shots. Seems he was on the set of a movie in London recently chatting it up with some fans. One of them was a gal in a wheelchair. He not only spent some time talking with her, but kneeled down beside her so she could have her picture taken with him. See that's how a genuinely personable celebrity relates to people. Unlike the pseudo-celeb Ms Stick-Up-the-Ass. Got that, Kate?

I would assume it means both - she took "friends" (if you can call them that - they'r friends until they cN't help her anymore) and someone let her use their home or rental.

Fidosmommy,Jon and Kate only became a marketable brand when they announced their split. From day one, Kate was the struggling single mother and Jon was the cheating douche bag who doesn't pay a cent of child support. Both got paid to tell those sides of the story to the tabloids. Kate is not bankable without Jon, and I think that is why he is agreeable to playing the douche bag. Kate once said "I've always made more money then Jon but it goes into the same pot". I think they are sharing a pot today and it comes from him playing along to make her more newsworthy. That whole Sylvia Lafair debacle was suspicious. She is owed by Jon and Kate yet only sues Kate, wins, and then drops upon appeal. Claiming it was never about getting her fees paid, just to make a moral statement. Ahem. And now we have Robert Hoffman claiming he only cares about the kids and will be answering questions on how Kate fooled the world. If only she and the lawyers would let him. I am not buying what they are selling, I think it is all crap.

Of course I believe that Kate behaves this way, but I also read that that Kimberly said there were rumors of her grabbing freebies, playing the part of the diva. I wondered if there were ACTUAL reports, confirmations of her doing this, or if this was just a repeat of the "gossip" suggested on the mommy blog. Did anyone provide actual examples of what Kate did? There is no doubt in my mind that Kate pulled the entitlement routine. I didn't read any eyewitness reports what she actually did, and I was curious if anyone came forth to report what they saw.

So much of life is how you perceive it, isn't it? You can think your situation is awful, go into the meeting thinking this is absolutely the most humiliating moment in my entire life I will never live this down, or you can go in with your head held high, do what you gotta do, and when it's done brush yourself off and think, well heck that wasn't as bad as I thought...next! The Farmer's Wife was thought provoking and has stayed in my mind since I watched last week. Each 14 minute segment was a gem.

I think Jaunita was a complex person with an amazingly strong core. She seemed to be an awesome mother. She knew how to maximize every limited resource. Her work ethic was off the charts.

I think Darrel needed enormous amounts of approval and affection. He offered his life of work sacrifice as a trade for someone to say, "Good man...well done." He would never hear it from his dad. Validation from Jaunita became critical. I don't think she could have ever filled his wounded heart. (She would only be human if she used that need in a passive/aggressive way to "punish" him sometimes.)

I just keep thinking about that family and wishing PBS would give us an update on them. (Kate update -- ugh, not so much.)

Dmasy: I was wondering how your crops were doing. Thank goodness for the rain! No wonder Juanita had the girls pray for rain to stop or start depending on what was needed.

I agree Darrel was looking for validation his father never gave him- I wonder what his relationship with his mom was like. There were no scenes with the two of them talking iirc.

Yes, Juanita is an amazing woman. If Kate went back to the 90s and visited the Buschkoetters, would she learn any lessons? I don't see how anyone could to... about hard work, parenting, priorities, thankfulness..

And that is gist of this story. They love money, more than their children, and Jon was sick enough to claim he had angst about the kids not being paid when he put them out to every pedophile. Really Jon, that is your biggest concern, not getting paid?

As for Lafair, Admin, why did she say she was dropping her lawsuit against Kate to save the taxpayers thousands of dollars trying this case? Here in Canada it is the litigants who pay for civil matters, not the tax payers. So was she lying? People sue for money or for revenge, clearly Lafair didn't follow through to extract either from Kate, and I am sure the truth behind that tale doesn't make either party come out smelling like roses.

Re the farmers wife: admin, you asked a while back about leasing land. Not unusual in my area. My folks used to own a piece of land about eleven acres, they let local farmer plant it and did not charge him anything, out saved them money from having to hire a tractor to mow the field. It had been pasture. A friend in county I live now inherited family land, he does not farm but wants to keep the land, so he leases it to farmer for enough to pay tax on it. It is usually a year to year arrangement, and the ones I have personally known about have been handshake agreements. The farmer who used my folks land for years never had anything in writing from them, and he would give them a couple bushels of whatever he grew at harvest time. I know folks who do tree farming also, that takes decades so tree farmers own their land.
Re virtual party: husbands can come along, but they can only have beer to drink, and they have to go off as a group to do icky boy stuff. And they can drive us places. And they can walk any dogs that anyone brings along. And they can take out the trash when we are done, and roll the can to the corner. Anything I an forgetting?

Kate will NEVER give up believing she'll get a new show. She is so far gone by now, she can't find her way back. I predict that she will hang onto the house and private school (and the pool and the Audi and the leather couch) until she's bankrupt, because she will always believe that her next big job is just around the corner, and then she'll be back on top. She could lose it all and be on public assistance, and even then she'll still be trying to claw her way back. She really believes her own hype, and her few remaining fans are doing her a disservice by encouraging her delusions.
What does she think her talent is? What is unique abut her? Yes, she had sextuplets, but we're over that. What is her new "hook"? I think buying that huge house was her downfall. People could relate to Kate and Jon as struggling parents, but not the millionaire lifestyle and the nasty, entitled attitudes they both got. The economy has been tanking for a long time, people are struggling, and it's offensive to watch Kate take 8 kids, plus an entourage of helpers, on yet another lavish vacation that she doesn't appreciate. Most people with young kids struggle to find the cash to hire a babysitter and go to the movies. Who can relate to Kate pitching tantrums in Alaska or Australia or New Zealand? She was never grateful for all that she was given. And she won't give up the posh lifestyle up to make herself more relatable.

I watched The Farmers Wife when it originally aired and was so touched by it watched it again a few years later after getting it at the library.

Too many posts here to read, but here's an update on what became of Darrel and Juanita for those interested if you don't know.

A few years after filming, they did end up getting divorced. Both are remarried and happy. I recall seeing that all three girls went to or are currently in college.

I agree with you. I liked the show when they were struggling, and we saw the grocery shopping and day-to-day life dealing with the tups and twins etc.Apart from Kate's attitude, once they were rolling in freebies and trips the charm certainly wore off...I think Kate is making a mistake saying the main things the kids miss are trips and 'adventures.' That makes them sound privileged and not the family some of us once tuned into watch - at home! I know things have changed in so many ways, but you can't turn back the clock and expect audiences to be eager to see how the kids have grown, as Kate has said. That's not exciting- we all have kids in our lives who have grown! Hers are nothing out of the ordinary. I think the show would have run its course despite all the drama. As for Kate scouring the country for a date, it sounds very boring- will she never find one suitable or that show would be over too?

Also, one of the owners of the old place called last night with ANOTHER job lead. It's been over a week. Dont most bosses kind of forget your name by this time? These guys keep calling here with some solid job leads. Weird.

So if you have a minute and the inclination, some postive thoughts would be much appreciated. HunnyBunny is 51 years old, after 23 years at the same place this isnt easy at all.

As we have all learned, it's easier to see a family struggling on tv rather than watching expensive vacations and shopping trips. Kind of like "rubbing our noses in it." Once a Viewer,
I remember hearing, several months before the cancellation, that TLC was having a hard time coming up with ideas for new shows. I think they wanted to make Kate's lifestyle more relatable, and knew that the constant trips and "adventures" just wasn't doing it. Kate, of course, would have wanted more, more, more, which would just make the situation worse. They really didn't have a choice but to just let the show go. And now kate is shooting herself in the foot by whining about how much the kids miss the trips and adventures. Anyone who might consider doing a show with her then knows that she will demand constant trips and adventures (expensive), and also know that that is a formula that didn't bring in viewers before. Kate isn't open to doing something new-even her mush-desired dating show involves travel.
I watched the Extra interview (that didn't air, HA. That's happening with more and more of her interviews lately), and wow--she sure does love the word "like". Add that to all the "umm"s and she's just a train wreck. I found it annoying that she was bragging about making all her own bread. She measures ingredients into a bread maker and pushes a button, for goodness' sake. It's not like she's covered in flour, kneading dough every day.

It costs taxpayers every time a case goes into court. The Casey Anthony trial costs taxpayers more than half a million dollars. It would cost less for a civil case but judges, clerks and courtrooms still cost money. She is right to think about the taxpayers. She also said this:

If she pursues the case she would feed the media beast and “would also feed Ms. Gosselin’s need for media attention.”

LaFair was right to drop the lawsuit before she ended up spending thousands herself to win. It's just not worth it.

LaFair had already won her case but was on appeal. She had won $10,000 and that is a whole lot of money for that neck of the woods. I don't think she makes that kind of money very often especially in this economy!
So my theory is that TLC paid her off under the table! The show was still on, all of the publicity about the case was making Kate look really bad( if that's possible) and the whole mess was going to continue while on appeal!

Yes, I do think TLC was, is, capable of paying LaFair off! She got paid and the story went away! I think TLC had their hands on every legal aspect of Jon and Kate's life for the good of the show!
That's the only reason that LaFiar would walk away from that kind of money , otherwise she wouldn't have sued in the first place! All of this is of course allegedly!

OrangeCrush said...

She's on twitter silence, usually means she's traveling somewhere. Quite possible she, Skeeve and the twins are crusin' while her paid friends take the tups home. Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Eh, I really don't think 10,000 bucks is a lot to LaFair. She even said herself it was really the principle of it.

I don't think she was bought off, I really think when she crunched the numbers she realized she would be spending far too much time and money to try to fight Kate than was worth it to her.

That is the thing with people like Kate, she will never, ever back down. So when you go into something with her if you actually want to see it through to the end you have to be prepared for the longest haul of your life. LaFair realized that. Most normal, healthy people would then conclude that their time and money could be better spend elsewhere and back off.

I watched the video too. I found it very hard to listen to her and to watch her.

Beyond the obvious "ums" and "likes" through out her interview, I could not get over the immaturity she exhibits with her word emphasis and facial/eye expressions.

Her speech inflection and tone do not reflect a mature professional woman. And when adding all of her eye and facial expressions, she appears more immature than my own teenaged kids and their friends.

It is obvious Kate has not worked on her communication skills even though she continues to express how much she thinks she belongs on tv. She has been unemployeed for a year and has done nothing to work hard on improving her speech and communication skills.

I know teenagers (including my own) who are working hard on these skills and know the importance of why they need to work hard on them. They are necessary in life especially for college, internships, and job interviews. I would be embarrassed if one of my older teens spoke and used facial expressions like Kate in an interview, no matter how casual the conversation. Luckily, I can say that my teenage children show more maturity than Kate did in that Extra interview.

For someone who sponsors seminars, retreats, events, programs and is a personal counselor, as well as a keynote speaker, that's a drop in the bucket. Speakers command at least that much or more. I don't think that she was in dire straits financially that she had to be paid off by anyone. She won her case, it went to appeal, and I agree with admin in that she saw that it was a waste of time and money to keep it going. It's a lengthy process and her attorney's fees could be more than her initial win. She knew enough to end it, and she did. I don't think that TLC, at that point, would help Kate out to settle it.

That was last April, and TLC was just about over and done with her. They knew it and Kate knew it. I doubt that they would continue to pump more money into a lost cause. They didn't care.

OT: When I posted @97 a bit ago, I noticed that we were at #1492. I wanted to grab a Rumspringa and have a toast to old Chris Columbus!

Admin. I thought she had already won her case. So she had already put in the money and the time! I dont think going through the appeals process was going to cost her much, wasn't that Kate's expense to fight the appeal. And also LaFair could have dropped it all if she had lost the appeal! I don't know it's just not logical to me!

And $10,000 is a lot of money!!! We both live in LA and here that kind of money will buy you a cup of coffee and a muffin!! Lol But that's a lot of money for many people!

Talking about a lot of money, one of my favorite shows on TV is House Hunters! I saw a guy buy a 2000 s.f. for $40,000 in Atlanta! My car cost more than that! Oh, and the house was nice! ????? Casey Anthony was on trial for murder. That is not a civil lawsuit, so the cost of her murder trial has no bearing here. However, she is being sued currently in civil court by Z. Gonzales at zero cost to the tax payer. That is relevant to this discussion. We do not pay for restorative justice as tax payers. Civil lawsuit costs are born by the litigants involved and in this case, Sylvia Lafair paid her share, and Kate paid her share, and the tax payers paid nada. So again I ask why we let Lafair claim she dropped her suit to save the tax payers money?

Tomatoes, we are big fans of House Hunters and HH International.

I am always surprised by the price of a CA home. So small for so much money. You are invited to move your family to Illinois. For a million dollars the house will probably come with acres of land!

I have teenagers, too, and I agree with you--I would be embarrassed if they spoke like Kate does. She spends most of her time with M&C, so maybe that's where she's getting the speech patterns--from tweens.
It was aggravating how she presented everything she's doing (Twitter, baking bread) as such a big deal. Patting herself on the back and acting like these are big accomplishments. She must be getting desperate for thinks to talk about. And her speaking skills have deteriorated since the show ended. Too much isolation from everyone but the kids.
I also doubt that TLC paid the legal bills for the Sylvia LaFair debacle. I remember hearing her, more than once, complain about her "Major, major, major legal debt". She supposedly hired a whole team of lawyers for the divorce, plus has been in court over custody many times, plus all the Cease and Desist orders, plus the LaFair situation. That takes a lot of cash. I don't doubt at all that she's paid a huge chunk of money for legal expenses. She was prepared to spend far more than the original 10K just to "win". LaFair was going to have to pay far more than she would ever get, so she let it go. And Kate didn't know how soon she would be out of a job, so she thought that she'd have plenty of money for the legal fight. It was all about winning to Kate. I bet she wishes she had all that money back. Too late!

For my sake, and admin's sake, I hope Kate is heading down there for the cruise!

The question is -- where is Milo? Will she finally meet Kate, fall down at her feet unable to speak because of the overwhelming emotional toll it will take on her? I hope someone would be standing by with oxygen and a defibrillator, and lots of paper towels to wipe the tears and drool off the floor, and any other bodily fluid that ended up there.

The LaFair thing - if TLC were really concerned with making this go away, they wouldn't have waited until an appeal was filed. When LaFair filed suit, they would have paid her off right away, not let the suit generate the publicity that it did.

Completely off topic here... (I really am needy, arent I?)

My nephew (and baptismal godson) has sole custody of his 13 month old daughter. Judge had recently declined to order only supervised visitation between baby and her mommy (exwife). Well, last night was visiting mommy and around MIDNIGHT the baby was climbing on something or another and fell and hit her head. Mommy called 911 because baby was vomiting and mommy requested help cleaning it up. (you cant make this stuff up, I swear.) 911 arrived, transported both baby and mommy to hospital, because mommy was beyond drunk. Police were called and mommy is in jail. Baby was released to daddy a few hours ago from ER. Nephew called lawyer who is seeking some kind of emergency order that mommy will only visit baby under supervision of a social worker or nurse. So we will see.

Nephew blaming himself for allowing baby an overnight with mommy against his better judgement. He is really all alone and this is hard, he is trying to work 2 jobs grabbing child care where he can. We are going to meet as a family on Sunday and see how WE CAN HELP HIM.

And by the way, I spent all day Wednesday with her and she is calling my name now clear as a bell! Since none of my 4 adult children have seen fit to give me granchildren yet, this darling great niece is fitting the bill nicely!

Kate is back to giving her fans false hope that she'll have a show again. A fan told her she should have filmed the vacation and put in Youtube. Kate replied:

"Our" film crew? They've been gone for a year, Kate.

Kate's previous tweet was about searching for coffee, but that she already had CoffeeMate on hand. Then she said her "headache" was gone like magic.

Seems Kate's imbibing a little too much wine, and is having delusions that she'll have a show soon. Is that like parts of her website that have said "Coming Soon" since she started it last September? and nothing has been posted yet?

************************************************

OMG. What a complete ass.

Too bad for Kate that her "brand", and anything involving her, is unappetizing to the networks.

Unless Kate starts filming independently (or Skeeve picks up a camcorder), I sincerely doubt that anyone will ever want to be her "crew" again.

Either way, she has no lasting appeal or large audience. Anyone who would sign her on is an idiot. I have no doubt if each of you ladies with kids posted ONE thing you did with your children in the last week ALL of your stories and adventures would be dramatically more interesting. More caring. More in line with, and in touch with, your kids' needs and interests.

Plus, what she doesnt get and NEVER will get is the fact that it's rarely the over-the-top outrageous moments that are the best or most memorable. It could be a story you are reading your kids when some silliness breaks out. It's sometimes a simple game of whiffle ball and something goofy happens. Maybe an impromptu water balloon fight breaks out with neighborhood kids.

She is so pathetic and desperate. I find it entertaining that she is the only person alive who doesnt see what a laughingstock she has become.

Oh, brother. Yes, Kate, we CAN imagine everything that has happened on your family's beach vacation, and, NO, none of it would be remotely unique or interesting enough to have it captured on film.

Let's just guess what has happened:

Kids have played on the beach. (Wow)

Kate has yelled at the kids to not get sandy.

Kids have gone in the ocean. (Amazing)

Kate has yelled at the kids to not get wet.

Lifeguards have whistled for kids to come closer to shore. (Incredible)

Kate has yelled at the lifeguards and told them that the GOSSELINS can go out as far as they want.

Kids have been knocked over by waves causing their bathing suits to fall down. (Hilarious)

Kate has posed on the beach busting out of her little bikini top.

Kids have built a sand castle. (Genius)

Kate has smashed the sand castle to smithereens.

Kids have sculpted a sand boyfriend for Kate. (Uproarious)

Kate has made the sand boyfriend discipline the kids.

Kids have gotten hungry and taken Steve's pizza. (Incredible)

Kate has screamed at the kids to unhand Steve's pizza.

Yep, Kate. That is unimaginably exciting stuff. It is a tragedy that it is not on film.

Steve's pizza fell in the sand and Kate made Steve eat it anyway. Steve doesn't eat mac and cheese or salad, so pizza ala sand is better than nothing at all.

There have been quite a few comments in the past as to why those who know Kate, were high school friends, or co-workers seldom speak out about her. I think the reason is that it's best to avoid the media blitz, not to mention the rabid sheeple who would go after them. Because they know Kate, they are smart enough to foresee that she alone would be the reason for her own undoing. This has come about with her Twitter fiasco.

Mama Mia -- even if the litigants pay court costs in a civil suit, there's still the cost of lighting and heating (or cooling) the courtroom. Courtrooms need to be cleaned. The judge's time is being spent on the case while other cases, maybe more important ones, wait. Court clerks, stenos, bailiffs, etc. have to be paid. Where do you think their salaries come from? Tax dollars! The fees/etc. paid by the parties involved in a court case don't begin to cover the actual costs. At least not in the US. I IDK about Canada.

Doesn't KK claim that everything's "organic"? Since when is Coffeemate organic? Or even healthy?

Can someone explain how a network would frame a show around Kate and her 8 children today? Would the cameras be on Kate all day, waiting for her kids to come through the door from school? I cannot imagine having a show built around them eating dinner and doing their homework.

If the show was to be filmed in the summer, at least the kids would be at home. But Kate would want the network to pony up with big trips to "make memories" on adventures in destinations far, far away. Otherwise, we would be watching 8 kids jumping into their backyard pool!

When the show aired initially, I agree there was a fascination watching a young couple manage 8 kids, but time marches on, and no one is interested in seeing
school-aged children doing ordinary, everyday things. Their narcissistic mother is more delusional than ever if she believes she can sell her family dynamic to a network today. At best, she may get the follow-up show TLC indicated they may give her one day down the road.

I believe you can never count her out though because she does have an unshakeable belief that television is where she is MEANT to be and no-one will ever convince her otherwise.

This tweet was Kate responding to a tweet about posting videos on the internet. I don't believe that TLC is filming them nor do I believe any other production company wants anything to do with her or her kids.

Her fans both the crazy ones and the teens keep asking for her to post videos of the kids and I 100% believe that is what her "soon" response was all about.

Kate will exploit her kids in any form possible to keep herself relevant. It has been ONE YEAR since she was FIRED. And she has been building up to videos on Youtube since posting all the pictures including the short video of the toe snapping on her twitter.

Absolutely. All of the things you mentioned come out of taxpayers' dollars, even in district court where it may cost the plaintiff $50 to file the suit. The judge needs to be paid, clerks need to be paid, there are administrative duties, costs to rent the building where cases are heard, and so forth. $50 doesn't begin to cover those costs.

She acts like she is a producer and has her own film crew at the ready.

And I bet this little vacay is a totally free deal. Maybe Deanna's parents have a beach house or she has some friends who have a house. I love HH and HH International. I caught the end of the Atlanta episode last night. His budget was $40,000 but I think he only paid $33,000 and with the savings was going to fix it up a bit. They did a HH segment that was shot on the Cape a few years ago and the couple that was on the show said they had already passed papers on the house and moved in before the show was even taped. But I still enjoy the show. I also watched a HH International (London episode) late last night with a family of four and a $4,000 a month rental budget. They ended up in a mews house (part of a converted stable block) that was tiny. Open plan kitchen, dining and living room; two small bedrooms and I think 2 baths. The master just barely fit their king size bed. They had two young boys squeezed in to the smallest bedroom and the baby had to sleep in the travel crib because his crib would not fit in the room with the twin bed. All for $4000 per month. I've been to London and I know it's expensive but wow this place was tiny. I also saw the Paris episode where the woman had a million dollar budget and that didn't get her much.

Dwindle, congrats on your husband getting the job and hope everything goes well with your nephew and his little one.

As far as Kate speaking, my four year old grandson has better english comprehension than she does. If he's not speaking correctly or pronouncing a word correctly, we let him gently know how it's done. How else will he learn. I think Kate thinks it's cute and coy but she looks like an idiot. I was running on the treadmill early the other morning and I had the Duggars on and I noticed that the teenagers insert the word like into their sentences. I was surprised considering these kids are home schooled and don't watch TV.

Wanted to comment on Juanita groveling with the creditor and how she completely downplayed it to Darrel.
====
I gather Darrel's father came from a generation where the man's job was to farm the land and if he had sons, they were brought up to take over the farm. In his time, farmer's wives were like hired hands and on top of helping with the actual farming they had to cook, clean, garden, can, butcher, look after the kids needs, launder the clothes and stay active in the community... oh good lord a hundred things a day. A lot of men didn't acknowledge the physical toll it took on their wives. Emotional burdens were rarely discussed. Darrel was brought up in that enviroment and probably knew nothing different than what he observed from his parents' marriage. He didn't seem the best match for Juanita on an intellectual level, anyway. She wanted more than the life they were living had to offer which is completely understandable. It put a huge strain on their marriage.
Admin I totally agree we are fortunate that Sutherland was an insightful filmmaker and turned his focus on this gem of a woman.

@KyliesNo1Fan you can't imagine all that has happened on this trip that made me wish we had brought our film crew along...Soon, don't worry!

I think Kate is telling the truth (even though she didn't add the "no lie" before her statement) about having "Our film crew".

I believe she HIRES and PAYS a "film crew" to take pictures of the kids so she can sell them to the Tabloids. Remember the Easter pictures ? How about all the pictures of her shopping at Target or with the twins this past year?

So, yes, Kate does have her own "film crew" in order to SELL pictures of her kids to every tabloid who will PAY her. I'm glad Kate is finally admitting to it!

I noticed that the coffeemate is fat free. Often when a product is fat free it contains more sugar. The extra sugar and caffeine most likely gives her a surge of energy, but then she will plummet later in the day which is why she is always so exhausted. From what I've seen her die is very unhealthy.

I think maybe she was talking about the Youtube thing "soon"...not an actual film crew filming them.

Why doesn't Kate buy Natural Bliss by Coffeemate? It has all natural ingredients: nonfat milk, heavy cream, sugar, and natural flavor. None of that chemicalish stuff. It's more expensive, but to me it's worth it. She's such a moron.

Stopping in to say hi- HI! Am still recovering from massively fun day at Cedar Point last Wed. In spite of AMA, NOT heart-related, I rode the big gun rides with two older grandkids - ages 8 and 11, along with my son (their dad). My DIL had way more sense :) DH partook of some of the rides as well. My feelings were "hey, I probably couldn't have done this the day before (Tues) and I'll pay the price tomorrow and the next day and the day after that and the day (well, you get the idea) so I WILL join the grandkids ON the rides". When we left, earlier than the kids - but not by much, my son quipped "Kiss Grandma J and Papa goodbye - you might not seem them for quite a while" Such a kidder - the brat :). We were fortunate to be able to spring for the "Fast Lane" making it possible to ride the "biggies" multiple times (ack!) as we could only spend 1 day in the park.

We stopped only to take a few pics. No film crew - and would not want one, ever. Neither of us oldsters (59 and 61) are the least bit "exhaustedish" but both of us are walking kinda funny the last 3 days. My son rode one of the extreme, extreme rides - Top Dragster - and the rider in front of him ignored the orders to put all unsecured things (hats, glasses - sun and regular, purses, etc. - in the bin on the platform leaving his cell phone in his pocket. The launch ejected said cell - right into my DS's shoulder. Thankfully, did not injur him but destroyed the phone, shattering it to pieces. My DS found it funny(I think he was in shock)...I did not, it could have hit his eye or caused a concussion. I'm gonna guess that the idiot rider thought those signs and announcements couldn't possibly have meant him...kinda like a certain fire lane parker we know...

Gonna catch up on posts now...

PS - I thought I saw that Mr. Dwindle received a job offer? Yay, congratulations! Closed doors, open windows and all that that :)

At the party, considering the circonstances, we should ask the Rumpsingas hip-hop polka band if they know "They're coming to take me away, ha-ha" by Napoleon XiV. After all, we'll be celebrating a full year "sans" TLC for Kate. (Or her children. YES!!!)

LOL! I hope they take requests. That song could be Kate's theme song, although it's rather difficult to dance to. It doesn't matter, we'll still be better at it than Kate.

Sport - I hope you'll be there wearing that snazzy suit.

Over in Berks - Rumpspringa probably morphed into more than you bargained for (almost), but at least it provides comic relief from the even more ridiculous saga of Kate Gosselin.
