If the parents are not that bright, it seems like they were exactly what TLC was looking for. They use people for their own financial gain.
However, my opinion still is, and always has been, that the parents are responsible for the decisions they make regarding their children. HBB's parents, already being on Toddlers and Tiaras, had to know about the Gosselin saga and all that happened. Also, it was their responsibility to talkk to someone (an attorney perhaps), if they were unsure of the contract terms. I know that I would have to because I could never understand all of the legal mumbo jumbo!
I completely understand what you are saying, dee3. But after this whole saga with the Gosselins, I am very quick to say parents need to beware and act more responsible.
It's too chilly to be outside in bare feet today. I'm here in front of a sunny window with the breeze coming in (after having to have the AC on all summer I love having the windows open), but I have to say my bare toes feel a little cold.
The oppression in that picnic photo is palpable. Shoes off and not allowed on the blanket. Little to no food, all packed in individual baggies. The scene does not look the least bit fun...yet those poor tups sure know how to smile on cue.

Paula, I don't believe that dee3 was trying to insult anyone, much less make a statement about an entire group of people. She was giving an observation of what she thought after watching the show a few times. From her post, you can tell the kind heart she has because her heart was breaking for that little girl who was so embarassed by the situation. HBB should never have been in that position in the first place.
I have never watched the show, but I have to say that I don't think any parent is too bright who agrees to put their kids on a reality show for profit. That includes Jon and Kate, the Duggars, HBB family, and all of them.

I guess it would be difficult to "prove" that one child was "touching" another...in terms of physical evidence.
One of the big red flags to me....regarding Octomom....is that she never just says an allegation is untrue.....but has to give some sort of elaborate reason why the person would have made the allegation....and this time it was that one of the nannies wanted the octuplets for herself.....and that both nannies were mad that she'd moved to a different house/area.
Overly-elaborating always sounds fishy to me....and she seems to do it quite a lot. I had felt really sorry for Octomom back when she was being massacred in the press while Kate G. was being commended....and I have always felt sorry for Octomom's kids.....and that they shouldn't have to suffer because their mother was being made such a pariah.
And certainly Octomom has always come across as a much nicer person than Kate G. (a wacky person....but nice, nonetheless)....and I give her credit for attempting to raise all those children.
But I have to say....there are too many red flags for me...where there's smoke there's fire. I predict this same issue will come up again in the future...but the children will be older....and it won't just get dropped.

I think being ignorant to people taking advantage of you and ignorant to the entertainment world and ignorant to how best to protect your child aren't necessarily related to IQ, but they can be.
I think we all know bright people who are lacking in other areas, like common sense. Like say directionally challenged. If you based it just on that you might think they were really dumb.
Why would they picnic on a blanket on the cold damp ground, when they have a large picnic table in their patio area?

The G kids needed to be protected more from their own parents than from the big bad world outside. Especially, as I've always said, the "reality" show they were on was about number 8 on the list of things that hurt them.
You know Tamara, you never pass up an opportunity to drag Jon into Kate's mess. Why is that? He has apologized for the past and seems to be doing his best to protect his children now.
I see Kate did not waste any time exploiting the tups, as soon as she got home. The sentence under the pic says 8 kids, gee Kate guess you can't count either, there are only 6 kids, and they are the tups only. I guess the picnic will have to take the place of Halloween.

Tamara, you are right that the G kids have alot to deal with in their lives, and most of it just came to light after RH book. Although it was suspected, there was no proof until now. The issue is that the reality show made things worse because of Kate's greed and love of fame.

None of them are barefoot, they're all in nice thick cotton socks and appropriate long sleeved shirt and jeans. There's nothing wrong with their outfits and this is when it gets to be too picky on Kate.
Not to mention kids frequently run around in shorts and tshirts when adults say it's way too cold. That's just kids.

I don't know why you keep thinking I'm denigrating the south. It has absolutely nothing to do with the south. I live literally minutes from Elkton, MD. I used to live near Avondale, PA back in the 80's. I LIVE with hundreds of families like the Thompsons and I don't live in the south.
And yes, stereotypes and generalizations are hurtful. It's June herself that refers to her family as "rednecks".....and the family came up with that term "redneckocize". I never even called them rednecks. There are thousands and thousands families like the Thompsons all over the US...not just in the south.
And a good many of them would have never allowed a crew to film their poor little just-turned 7 year old daughter in a highly embarrassing and mortifying situation like that and shown it to the whole world....and now immortalized forever on youtube, etc. They would have never allowed a corporation to use their family for entertainment so people all over the globe could lampoon them. Have you even seen some of the stuff written all over the internet about them?
Not everyone has the good fortune to be able to afford a college education and not everyone has the good fortune to travel extensively and to see what people can be like all over the world. That doesn't necessarily mean they can't have some common sense and wisdom. There are plenty of wise folks who didn't get the benefit of a college education.
Yes, they are a very nice and loving family....but what WOULD you call parents who allow their young children to be plastered all over the internet so others can lampoon them? Who allow a TV crew to film them farting, eating cheese balls, showing their young daughter grabbing her belly and moving it around to make it look like a face talking.....and not realize this would set them up to be lampooned?
And the problem is....there are probably hundreds of parents who would make the decision to allow this....and I call it a STUPID decision. I don't care if you're a "redneck" or not. With Kate G....I think it was pure narcissism and a need for attention and money.....but with June? I'm not sure why she's allowing this.
There are a lot of decisions June makes for her family that aren't the best....what she feeds them and lets them eat just for starters...but I have to believe she just doesn't know any better. And I have to believe that she just didn't know any better when she allowed the TLC film crew to film what they are filming of her family and especially of her children. She didn't really have the capacity to comprehend just what she was getting them (particularly the minor children) into.
Because she's certainly a loving mother....you can't say she's not....so why is she allowing it? I have to think she doesn't know any better....that she allowed something without realizing the long-term consequences for her children.
But TLC DOES know better....and they don't care. They will take advantage of any family like the Thompsons and laugh all the way to the bank. And I hold TLC to a higher standard than I do those parents....and that's just the way I see it. Do I hold them accountable? Yes....but not to the degree that I hold TLC. To me, TLC is totally taking advantage of them.
Kate has lost all credibility. This teasing on twitter is so juvenile, isn't it? All the emphasis on the fun, etc. is just crazy. Not to be believed, none of it.
I think Kate is embarrassed by her background and wants to distance herself as far away as possible from her own roots. I know other people who are similar and that is what I see. Running as fast as they can. She acts like she wants to "rise above" her own people. Someone told me once that if someone takes a team of psychiatrists to figure them out, it isn't worth it. The woman needs help that we cannot give to her.

Amen. It was a great day to be outside and enjoy the sun. Yes, they have a picnic table, but I think that it's under cover, isn't it? They probably wanted to be on the lawn to feel the warm sun. There was no problem with the way they were dressed, the kids didn't look like they were in agony or unhappy in any way, and maybe they had more food (and dessert) in a basket, or perhaps it was a snack and not their regular lunch. They were on a blanket, not plopped down in cold soggy grass, barefoot and shivering.
The pickiness (is that a word?) really does get to be silly.
She and/or her support staff are not as organized as she pretends to be.

Well she did specifically say this was their lunch, not a snack, but that doesn't mean that this wasn't the END of the lunch and they already ate most everything else.
In my opinion there's not a single thing to pick on about this photo other than the fact that she is using it to exploit them. I don't understand why the kids can't have a nice, relaxing picnic in PRIVATE with their mother without her thinking about how she can exploit the event. It makes me think she really does not see these kids as anything but little money making tools.

dee3 -- I agree with you. And Paula, I don't think Dee was saying that HBBs parents are unintelligent, and I don't think she was "denigrating" them because they are southern. It sounds like they are unsophisticated. That is not insulting to anyone. If you haven't been exposed to the machinations of a corporation like TLC, you aren't going to understand the lengths to which they will go to get their way about anything. It has nothing to do with being Southern or "talking slow" or being unintelligent.

What happened to HBB? Where is the footage? I like HBB. I like the family and do watch the show so far. They seem a tight family and very down the earth. The camera does love HBB and she loves it right back. I don't agree about the press junket they have been on this week. It wasn't necessary. She is quite actually now the most famous child in the country, if not the world.
She is going to be on Dr. Drew on Tuesday and she is shown with her head down not responding to him. June needs to take her home and let her be happy and have some degree of a normal life.

I often word things in a way that get misunderstood. I absolutely would not want to denigrate the south (I've never even had the opportunity to visit the south) or any particular group of people. Heck, I'm Jewish and surely know better. It's TLC who is denigrating them and it's TLC that really angers me.
See...what bothers me is that yes, these parents are ultimately the ones responsible.....but what if the parent makes a bad decision on behalf of the child? Then that's just too bad for the child? And TLC gets a pass because the parents....be they too narcissistic and on a quest for fame or they just don't know any better....allow this to happen to their child/children?
At what point does the buck stop? To some degree....we are all responsible just for watching the shows.
I've been over watching some of the news reporting from the Sandusky trial and from the victim #1 interview.....and boy, it's really chilling. That poor Aaron trying to hide in the school bathroom and trying to flee from Sandusky on his bike.
And the stories about Sandusky taking those boys down to his basement with his wife upstairs. That wife of his is some piece of work....but then who knows? Was she scared of him? Stockholm Syndrome?
There are so many villains in this story besides Sandusky....that other Penn State coach who saw him in the shower with one of the boys (not Paterno)...that principal...that whole group..Mile High or something (?) and their board, Tom Corbett.....and on and on.
The main problem I have with the whole Paterno thing is the whole "falling on his sword" issue. I have no problem holding someone accountable.....but not while all the rest skate.
Sure...Kate is the main villain in the Gosselin saga....and she should rightly go down....but what about TLC?

Then that's a poorly trained dog. Dogs can be taught, quite easily I might add, to not eat anything until you say it's okay. They can be taught to sit or lay down beside the picnic blanket while you eat.
German Shepherds are some of the smartest and easiest to train. I went to a K9 dog show last weekend and it was amazing how disciplined they are. They can be in full on attack mode then the second the person raises their hands to surrender they stop and back off like nothing happened.

Pity Party, re HBB. dee3 watched an episode and at one point, HBB sneezed I think. The snot came out of both nostrils and she immediately put her hand over her nose to cover it. dee3 said the child was embarassed and looked like she was close to tears. In the meantime, TLC just kept on filming it and never offered the little girl a kleenex or anything. In the meantime, the poor child seemed embarassed and was close to tears, and the camera people did nothing to ease her distress.
Yeah, it makes total sense to me. Real family like. Warm fall day, picnic in the yard, and keep the dog IN THE HOUSE. Yep, yep, yep.

Admin, I agree about german shepherds being one of the smartest dogs. Our Cody, who we had to put down in March, was very intelligent.
Inside, he knew never to come to the table when we were eating. Outside, he would sniff around, but we would tell him to go lay down and he would do that until everyone was finished eating.
Now, in all fairness, he wasn't so good when the grandkids were here, but that wasn't his fault. The boys would take a piece of whatever they were having for lunch, put it behind their back, and signal Cody to come over. No wonder he was such good friend with my grandsons!!

Yes! I actually lived IN West Grove back in the 80's for several years. I live in Bear, DE now....just a hop and a skip from Cecil Co. MD...and have lived here for gee, almost 30 years now. We moved here when my 32 year old was just a little tyke. I grew up in Newark, DE. (parents originally from NYC).

OK...maybe this is a dumb question (because I really don't know what I'm talking about here)...but do they ever use those invisalign braces for children? One of my daughters-in-law has them but I never asked her if they use them for children. And they weren't available when my son got braces years ago.
IIRC, my DIL told me that she didn't get to finish the last stage of her regular braces so they are using these invisalign ones now for her to complete the process started years ago.
You'd be nuts to give invisalign to an eight year old. They'd lose them in a heartbeat and forget too often to put them back in.
I've heard some dentists only do them for adults but some will do it for teens. Never heard of it for young kids though.

They were hard to miss. It couldn't have been over a month ago.

I rarely leave the dog home alone unless I have to...so he rarely gets to be home alone.
He seems to have this overwhelming guilt thing (why not? he got it from me)....and if I stub my toe or something and yell....he immediately takes it personally, runs back to an empty bedroom and "grounds" himself back there. It cracks me up. Then I have to go back there and lure him back out.
Of course....if he's outside with me and wandering off and I have to reprimand him to get back in our yard, he totally ignores me...which I can't figure out.....because if I even so much as yelp OW in the house, he runs and grounds himself in a back bedroom.
Now....do I get any privacy from the dog? Well, let's put it this way....I'm often crouching in the bathroom with the door shut, eating a sandwich, because I'm too much of a sucker for his begging eyes. :D

Yes indeed. My drooly dog is lying right here beside me as I type...she is my shadow and 'mourns' when I am out! But she would not eat any food unless told she could. Sometimes she finds some dropped morsel and 'asks permission' to have it! A trained dog definitely would not steal food- maybe a starving one would. If Kate was even present- which I doubt she was- she could have kept Shoka from eating anything. I also am concerned that Shoka is no longer around...

My daughter had orthodontic work in two phases. She developed an overbite because her upper jaw grew faster than the lower jaw. She had to wear a Henkel appliance to correct that. She was probably 9 or 10? THEN she had to have full braces with rubberbands. She matured early so everything was off in middle school. That poor tup's teeth seemed very crowded. Is it possible that the braces (she's very young) were a temporary measure and their purposes are done until the next phase? Just a thought. The weather, the way the kids are dressed, and the stage of the leaves looks authentic for today in SE PA to me.
My Fido. Terrier Mix, about 65 lbs. One ear longer than the other. A foundling - Oct. 26,
1987. Took me on miles-long walks 5 times a day. Refused to go back into the house until he got a car ride all around town with his head out the window. WOULD not budge off the sidewalk. Sat down and froze until he saw me move toward the car. Funny boy.
He would NOT get on the couch unless it was covered with a sheet. Once the clean sheet was on, that was HIS couch. He would share with me.
He had a bed in the hallway. Cat decided she liked it, slept on it one night. Fido came upstairs with me, saw cat on HIS bed, whined and pawed at the floor, then a light went off in his head. He flew into the bedroom, jumped on the bed and settled in. That was his bed from that night on.
He was my baby. I cannot imagine not giving him
everything he wanted and deserved. He was gentle, protective, nuzzly and wonderful.
Shoka deserves the same kind of relationship with a person.

I often word things in a way that get misunderstood. I absolutely would not want to denigrate the south (I've never even had the opportunity to visit the south) or any particular group of people. Heck, I'm Jewish and surely know better. It's TLC who is denigrating them and it's TLC that really angers me.
See...what bothers me is that yes, these parents are ultimately the ones responsible.....but what if the parent makes a bad decision on behalf of the child? Then that's just too bad for the child? And TLC gets a pass because the parents....be they too narcissistic and on a quest for fame or they just don't know any better....allow this to happen to their child/children?
At what point does the buck stop? To some degree....we are all responsible just for watching the shows.
I've been over watching some of the news reporting from the Sandusky trial and from the victim #1 interview.....and boy, it's really chilling. That poor Aaron trying to hide in the school bathroom and trying to flee from Sandusky on his bike.
And the stories about Sandusky taking those boys down to his basement with his wife upstairs. That wife of his is some piece of work....but then who knows? Was she scared of him? Stockholm Syndrome?
There are so many villains in this story besides Sandusky....that other Penn State coach who saw him in the shower with one of the boys (not Paterno)...that principal...that whole group..Mile High or something (?) and their board, Tom Corbett.....and on and on.

The other coach was the tall redhead, Mike McQueary. Gary Schutlz and Tim Curley ( I get them mixed up) were higher ups...Athletic Director and something. The foundation was Second Mile. I graduated Penn State in 1989. I celebrated the win over Miami for the national championship and watched Sandusky be hoisted up. My neighbor went to Miami and we watched half the game at our house the second half at hers. But I digress.
Second mile was a big thing at Penn State in the 80s. It's the social volunteer opportunity that was really pushed. Next to the dance marathon which raises tons of money for pediatric cancer, it was the big philanthropy of campus.
The fall of Joe Paterno and the scandal has been very personal to me. I'll never forget hearing on the radio that a former assistant coach had been accused. Then they said Sandusky. Then Mike McQueary who we always joked was my brother who is also a tall redhead Penn Stater. Here's the thing. Unlike Kate's die-hard fans I accepted that Joe Pa was culpable. I accepted that Penn State failed these kids. I did not blindly defend them at the expense of victims. That is why I am not a sheep. God bless the victims.

Reading KK's tweets today have me shaking my head. I'm not surprised that I can't understand what she's thinking....we think so differently that my mind simply doesn't work the way hers does.

Invisalign braces are for adults, and recently have been approved for teens.
But for children the age of the youngest Gosselins, the braces could be on & off quickly - depends on what the orthodontist is trying to accomplish in the current phase of treatment. They are too young to be in final phase of treatment, there is too much growing that needs to be accomplished before they have their adult mouth.
My oldest did go through a 3 phase treatment - first a retainer (to fix crossbite) and a lip bumper; then a palate expander; finally, 2 1/2 years of metal braces.

He was about 6 or 7 when he showed up at my house Oct. 26, 1987. He died Aug. 23, 1993
of cancer. What somebody dumped out of their truck became my buddy. I will never forget the
great 6 years we had together. Dogs are so wonderful. So are cats. I'm in cat mode now.
I guess there have been a couple twitter sighting of Jon and the twins getting frozen yogurt... so if Mady and Cara were off collecting leaves for a project today like Kate said, they may well have been doing that with their dad:)

I don't know....I just have...I don't know if I'd call it sympathy....but the whole Joe Paterno thing never sat quite right with me. And I fear saying that because I fear I'll upset people. I can see if he'd not reported it.
And then subsequently learning how Second Mile donated to Tom Corbett and then he procured grants for them. Not saying it was quid pro quo.....but the cover-up went much higher than Penn State.
I'm sure this whole thing has been devastating to past and current students at Penn State.
I'm just not all that sure what it takes and how easy it is to expose these things, to be honest. That's why I get kinda upset when people write comments here making assumptions that Jon G. has done nothing...or did nothing in the past.
If a cover-up goes up really high....is it reasonable to have expected people farther down the ladder to have been able to blow the whistle and expose the whole debacle? Bring it to a screeching halt?
I'm not excusing Joe Paterno....I hope everyone realizes that. I'm just not 100% sure if he alone could have stopped it. Maybe he could have. I'm just not sure. I'm sure there's lots more of this story to still come out.
While I agree that the photo looks like it was taken a couple of weeks ago (the deciduous trees in the background have barely turned their colors yet), when I enlarged the picnic picture on my monitor with high-end digital developing software I own, the braces were quite evident.

I don't think it would be contempt of court, but I'm pretty sure shatzy8 is thinking of what Robert said in his emails to Radar, correcting them for saying Jon gave him the material, and reminding them he took and passed a lie detector test about the material. He also said this:

I agree. And I think (though twitter is a foreign language to me) that whoever this tweeter is, they got their legal facts/terms a little mixed up.
It would involve a civil case and Kate could not win a claim that Robert lied if he can prove (which he says he can) that he is telling the truth.

Regarding the picnic picture....the kids are getting older and their looks are changing. The kids wouldn't be recognized if Kate would stop posting their picture. I wish the hell she'd stop.

My thoughts on the Sandusky mess. The one person, after Sandusky, who angers me the most is Mike McQuerry, a then 28 year old assistant for the Penn State football team (this was back in either '02 or'03). McQuerry was the one and only person that actually saw Sandusky sexually assaulting a young boy. It was in a locker room shower. But what did McQuerry do? Did he get Sandusky off the boy? Nope. Did he get the boy out of harms way? Nope. Did he find out who the boy was and contact his parents, tell them what happened, and inform them he was going to go to the police and file a complaint? Nope. He hit a locker to let Sandusky know he was there and then walked out and called his daddy. HIS DADDY! He then went to Joe Paterno's house the next day and told him what happened. However, according to Paterno, McQuerry didn't tell him the graphic details. McQuerry says he did. We will never know. Now McQuerry says he was a victim because he was let go by Penn State and he has filed a lawsuit. Well boo, hoo, hoo. McQuerry is now married and has a child of his own. I wonder how he would feel if his child was being sexually molested, someone saw it and they just walked away.

Njay, Judy, others dealing with elderly parents, you have my sympathy and prayers. Unless a person has gone thru this, it is difficult to explain just how much physical and mental work it is to care for an aging parent.
My dad died over a decade ago. I have been managing my mothers affairs since then, and watching her mental and physical health decline. Talking to others dealing with similar situations helps a lot!

It's been a fairly rough week for me, I had some surgery and it was no walk in the park, however, today was great. My son, DIL, and kids dropped by and brought a lovely Sunday dinner but it's gets better, they are expecting again! This will be their fourth, we were sitting around and throwing out baby names, even hubby was involved and we were laughing and teasing each other but, oddly enough, we came up with two names and the frosting on the cake is that, boy or girl, they will have my middle name as their middle name. I never especially liked my, gender neutral, middle name but it's such a lovely gesture on their part. So I'm going to be a Grandma of eight next year! Yay!

She made a comment (in reference to Kate's journal) that everyone makes mistakes, Kate is only human, she was a young woman, etc. etc. Child and animal abuse is just a MISTAKE? Are you talking to me? It would be helpful if you could use @ and the person's name, or the comment number. All I was asking was what action could bring a contempt of court charge because nothing that Kate did (that I'm aware of) would warrant such a charge. Robert didn't have to prove anything to me about child abuse or animal abuse. It's there in Kate's own words. He is the messenger (and a good one at that).

Exact same thing here. ADHD isn't something they can confirm/see by looking so they assume it's just bad parenting (read: not enough discipline, SPANK! that child !!).
It got really old, fast. My support group saved my sanity and became some of my best friends to this day. Now I pay it forward with my dear neighbor who is going through the exact same thing with her child. She is a wonderful mother.
IMO, the finest thing we can do for other mothers is to forget ego and speak our truth. It gives them permission to do the same, eventually, and be really supported which in turn supports the children.
ADHD makes one lose ego and grow a very thick skin. The judgments can be awful.

I can make an attempt to address some of it but you've asked a whole lot of individual questions in a fairly long comment. It would take me a bit of time....but just for starters, where did you get the info that Jon hacked into Kate's computers? As I understand it, she threw them out in the trash and Robert just took them.
And how do you know what Jon did and did not do legally regarding his kids? How do you know he didn't try to do all he could?
And where did you get info that he didn't pay his chid support?
These sorts of accusations have been made over and over....and answered over and over here before.
