She tweeted she's headed to the basement. Such a drama queen. Wind guests are 15 mph...they're higher than that in a garden-variety summer thunderstorm. Does she herd everyone in the basement for those?
I love the part in Taking Chance where they are driving the casket and everyone on the highway realizes what's going on, and starts turning on their lights, slowing down and following it, forming an impromptu funeral procession. So moving. A clip from that scene is in the trailer.

Apparently, she and the ship's captain were able to get into survival suits, which protect from the cold and keep one afloat, but in seas that rough -- I don't even want to think about it.
I keep tuning in to the weather channel to see the latest. Sounds like Manhatten is getting slammed. Record high water at the Battery, water flooding the power stations, so the electric company is turning the power off. Just hearing about the devastation already is mind-numbing, and the worst is yet to come. Please, everyone, stay safe!

She really pi$$es me off- she is passing her shallow values on to her children. I would have my kid watching the news of the weather- if age appropriate, or at the very least made it a lesson for her that real life is far more important than a show, and sometimes real life happens - I even made her get out of bed to watch the POTUS give the news on Bin Laden's death because I knew the historical value of it- and she had a class the next morning- boy was she grumpy- LOL!
How can a person be so shallow? She watches RH over the debates, gets upset if DWTS is trumped by a hurricane...come on Kate- WAKE UP! There is a world out there, around you.
The last time I visited DC I was at the changing of the guard the same time as a crowd of high school students. Absolute silence. Then I heard a little sniffle. Then another one. I looked around and most of those kids had tears streaming down their faces. You can say what you like about the "younger generation", but there are still a lot of them who "get it".
Speaking of tear-jerkers, I watched "The Other Side of the Mountain" last night on Netflix. It's the story of Jill Kinmont, an Olympic class skier who broke her neck in a ski accident and became a quadriplegic. She fought and won a battle to get a teaching certificate and became an elementary teacher. She died just recently, in her 70's. Sad and uplifting film and stars a very young Beau Bridges.
Aggiesmom, I believe "recovered" doesn't mean rescued. They recovered one body. I wish it had been the other way around but one family (at this point) will have full closure. I'm afraid there will be more fatalities from this storm.

Yes, the funeral procession in Taking Chance had me blubbering as well. I need to watch that movie again. The airplane scene with the passengers standing watch is emotional as well.

My father guarded the tomb during WWII. I have pictures of him in his uniform and with his rifle looking so handsome and brave standing in front of the tomb.

I have a friend who ran and I did not realize that Team ASPCA was named the Benefiting Charity for Rock ‘n’ Roll Los Angeles Half Marathon. Maybe that is one of the reasons coupon cabin cut ties with her.

I gave my personal chef the day off and I made two big pots of chicken corn soup. So far so good here, I'm doing laundry as well and just puttering around. But first and foremost, my main concern is Kate and if she has had all the showers she requires. I'm also a wreck over the fact that her DWTS watching is being interupted by annoying weather reports about this historical storm, or rain thingy, or whatever. I'm sick about it ;(
The power has flickered here slightly a few times, but that's it. It's been more windy than rainy. Late tonight is when the real party starts.. yikes!

We are so proud of him. They are expecting their first baby. He is not scheduled to guard it in the next couple days, but he might be one of those guys in the photo from September. I'll ask her. I would give you his name for prayers and good thoughts, but there are some nasty sheeple lurking seeking to disrupt anything they can, even a man serving his country.

I am in upstate NY. School here has already closed for tomorrow. I spent the weekend preparing for this. It is pouring here but no real wind yet.

Yes, I real mother would but Kate is not a real mother to those children. It makes me so angry with her. I live in Hurricane country and with a spouse who is a firefighter, I was always left home alone with my kids during storms. I annoyed the heck out of them because I would make them stay in my sight during the storms. And may I just add that my children were in school during the 911 and I went to the school and pulled them out because I wanted to be near them. She is an idiot.

Back in the day, the guards were part of the Secret Service. My father was honored with the job of guarding Queen Mary when she visited the States. Am I a proud daughter after all these years? Oh, hell yeah! :)
It hasn't been worthy of two days of no school? So she's a weather expert now? Just because things look fine in your front yard doesn't mean it's safe to send thousands of school children out there on the roads. Not to mention, if there IS an emergency, that could leave kids STRANDED at school.
This is what happened to millions of kids in the blizzard of 77. They waited too long to send them home. They didn't call off school soon enough. They will never make that mistake again. My grandmother told stories of my uncles, who were still in the home, cooking up a bunch of food and walking it over to the school to feed the kids. She was a kindergarten teacher and refused to leave them. Those kids could have died trying to make it home. Also, because people were trying to drive their kids to school and whatnot but then couldn't make it through, the streets were so cluttered with abandoned cars it became impossible to get snow plows through in many areas making everything worse.
It was a completely mishandled disaster and it's lucky only 23 people died. So Kate that is why kids should just stay home during emergencies like this okay? I know you can't stand being with your kids but try to suck it up.

Butterfly that's what my friend said, that it's incredibly elite. I figured it was. He's done several tours of duty. He has served his country. There was a big ceremony when he was inducted that the national press covered. This young couple has been through so much--they lost their first baby. She has been miserable and alone without him so long knowing no one in Seattle. Then they moved and he got this. She is much happier now and they deserve everything this will bring.

We're glued to the weather news here not just for ourselves but to check on family and friends who live in Boston, DC and other eastern areas.
It hasn't been as bad as I expected here in Berks County, but it might get worse overnight.

It's understandable kids this age would just care about their favorite shows. But that's Kate's opportunity as a mother to teach them, in an age appropriate manner, why it was preempted tonight and to help them be somewhat aware of what's going on and how devastating it has been for some people. Kids are inherently selfish, it's the teachable moments like this that help guide and shape them into kind, caring, unselfish adults who don't throw a hissy fit when they don't get to see what they want to see when they want to see it.

I firmly believe you have to TEACH awareness and appreciation for the world.
My parents made the news fun. They would take us on vacation to places like NY and Washington and show us places frequently seen on the news--the stock exchange, White House, Capital. They would let us watch 60 Minutes and 20/20, this was before 20/20 was all murder stories, and we would talk about the stories together. I started to really look forward to 20/20, it was my special time with them and I still watch it to this day. I pretty much knew I wanted to major in journalism before I ever even went to college. This kind of thing doesn't happen by accident.
You have to do some leg work to engage kids but it can be fun too to watch a child learn to be interested in the world outside of Nickelodeon.

I can't really make heads or tails out of the forecast maps so we are just going to wait it out I guess. I do not have school again tomorrow. However, we now have two "snow days" to make up already!

Admin I lived through the Blizzard of 77. I was a newlywed and working in downtown Buffalo. It was fine going to work. The friend of ours that I carpooled with wanted to go home because they said on the radio it would be a storm we would be telling our grandkids about. It was nice and sunny early in the morning and so we went to work. By 10 you couldn't see across the street. They let me leave work but it took us hours to make it 2 blocks. We ended up staying in City Hall for 2 days before someone could come and get us with their 4 wheel drive. The wind was so bad that when we went outside the wind lifted me off the ground. My friend had to grab me by the shoulders to keep me on the ground. Things were such a mess that the city was closed down for a week. The thruway and streets looked like parking lots. People couldn't see where they were going and the drifts were so high they had to leave their cars. Buffalo was definitely not prepared. The National Guard had to come in and haul snow away and take it south. I really wish that we would have had more warning than someone on the radio when we were already on our way to work.

Here in Toronto, we're experiencing incredibly strong winds and rain as the system moves in this direction. A woman was killed here this evening by sign debris that blew off a building. Noone is safe from this incredible storm.
What Kate means is that there hasnt been enough drama for her to milk enough attention out of, worthy of having to be in the same house with her children for 2 gosh dang days in a row. She put up with them all day, her arm hurts now from 'instructing' and 'disciplining' and she would like all day in bed tomorrow to recover. But the school is closed, how annoying! She's nuts. I've been known to go to school and pick up my kids during severe weather because I didn't want them at school. I wanted them home with me.
Roads are flooded, bridges are flooded, areas have been evacuated. She lives in Berks County and has no idea about the conditions in Lancaster County where most of the students live. If something happened on that school bus, or if there were power outages or emergency situations at school she'd be the first one screaming..."why did they even have school knowing that a hurricane was coming?"
The school errs on the side of caution. She just didn't want to have to stay home with eight kids.

I am watching the weather channel, they have had record flooding in NYC, braking a record in the Battery Park area set in 1821. Amazing!

Hey all! My family and I have been watching the hurricane updates this evening and my thoughts are with you all! Hoping you all stay safe and sound! My 8yo got to stay up an hour past his bedtime because he was glued to the tv watching updates, he even got his atlas out and highlighted the Ny coast and hurricane zone.

Schools don't like to close school. Among the many issues with it, oftentimes it results in a lot of issues with trying to make up the days later. They're not going to close unless they really feel it's necessary. It never occurred to me to question why a school would close. I assume they have a better idea of what the conditions and dangers are than I do just looking out my front window. And if it turns out to not be so bad, oh well better safe than sorry when it comes to all those kids.
Someone should tell this poor reporter in Atlantic City he doesn't have to stand in the middle of the torrential water in his fly fishing pants, just standing at the edge would be plenty sufficient!

In OBX, the Avalon fishing pier in Kill Devil Hills lost sections, as did the Frisco.fishing pier in the village of Frisco on Hatteras Island.

This is tragic. And this is why kids were supposed to be kept home from school and kept inside today, KATE.
During Hurricane Isabel years ago, which was a monster storm in Virginia/ NC, tiger only people who died in my area were people who went out in the wind during three storm, and had a tree fall on them. After the storm, trees with roots in saturated ground may fall on people and vehicles too. Excellent reason to keep kids home and people off roads!

Still raining here but wind never got bad. Just a little north, Fredericksburg area and north, and all communities on Chesapeake Bay, got tremendous amounts of rain, tees down, power lost. Central Virginia area just south and West of the worst of it.

Hi all~
Had gone to sleep and was awakened by our 40 lb. sheltie leaping on top of me. Scared the heck out of me. The back wall of the hurricane was coming through (around 1 am. EST) and the power had gone out due to the high winds and he was scared. So I lit some candles and turned on the battery-powered radio and he calmed down a little. I think the combo of the sound of the high winds, the trees swaying back and forth and the power outage just scared him.
He does this when he gets scared....he'll literally leap right on top of you if you're lying down....or even in the recliner.
About an hour and a half later, the power came back on.....and he and I were dancing around cheering (hubby is at work). I was SO happy and surprised. I'd figured we would be out of power for at least a day or two. I'd texted my son who lives nearby to see if his power was still on....but he must have gone to sleep.
We were REALLY lucky here in northern DE. REALLY lucky. NYC got hit hard...lower Manhattan flooded....water flooding into the subway system. NJ hit really hard and areas of PA hit really hard. Bucks County, PA...they say trees down all over the place and massive power outages.
Things are calming down in Rehoboth Beach....but they say that lower down....Fenwick Island, Indian River Inlet....all flooded. Thirty something people killed in the northeast so far from the storm....many due to falling trees.
Apparently, an older guy was out on the back porch letting his dogs out to go to the bathroom in the backyard.....when a tree fell on the porch. And his poor wife was back in the house...can you imagine? Terrible.
Two people killed when tree fell on their pickup truck while they were in it.
Kate has no idea how lucky she is. And that tweet about the 2 missed days of school was terrible. I used to love it when my boys would get a day off from school unexpectedly and we would all stay home together to weather-out a storm.
And there have been several children already killed here in the northeast due to this hurricane. Wait until she gets to see what a lot of the rest of PA looks like. Trees are down ALL over Bucks County PA and most of the roads are impassable, they reported on the news.
One of the thing that has fascinated me is that thanks to camera phones and social networking sites (facebook, twitter)....thousands and thousands of photos have been sent to the news outlets and they've shown many of them on TV. Back in the day, you had to rely on the photos taken by the news cameramen.....but today, everybody can be a news cameraman........and you get to see so many more photos and of so many more places during events like this.
Well...now the dog and I are wide awake and I'm starting on my first pot of coffee. :D

The wind and rain from Sandy is affecting people as far west as Kenosha WI. They have advised a certain area of the city bordering Lake Michigan to evacuate due to high waves.
Here in Pewaukee (west of Milwaukee) it is just really windy and raining quite hard. Darn, I have nothing to whine about.
And re school closings, around here the bus company makes the call, which makes sense as they are the ones transporting the children through the bad stuff.
Hope everyone remains safe and that SHE develops a leaky roof, generator craps out (after all, it is a used one because she can't afford a new one after spending her last $500 on a meat slicer). Is that nice? NO. But does she deserve it? HELL TO THE YES!
Someone posted about Kate and Celebrity Wife Swap. I have to agree, especially because when you look at Kendra's twitter, she was in Philly around the time Kate left and Kendra lives in CA so they probably swapped for about a week. Whatever show she filmed, it was probably only a one time thing. Can't imagine any network wanting to deal with her.

I don't think Kendra's husband was with Kate because he was in DC on the 22nd of October, tweeting about how he can't wait to pick Kendra up and take her to the museums in DC. This is all speculation of course!
Nevermind, it WAS the same week. CC canned her on October 16. That was the week she had been MIA. She tweeted she was good a few hours before the public firing, which is why tabloids thought the tweet was responding to the firing. It also makes you wonder if her filming in LA while she was supposed to be promoting CC and SGK had anything to do with Kluth calling her inauthentic and firing her.

I admit to watching Wife Swap, probably about a half dozen times and this was a few years ago. To the best of my memory, the shows were pretty much all the same. Create an untenable situation for all, the kids cry and then the moms face each other and talk about how each one could be a better mother. It's sick. Whoever puts their own flesh and blood in the path of such sickness should tear up their mother card. The stupid dads too.
The show is pathological and if Kate did this, then my gosh, I hope that Jon can have her mentally evaluated. I just feel for those kids more than ever.

Hope everyone woke to less rain and minimal to no damage. Here we are having snow, but the temps are above 32, so it won't last. Mostly branches and lots of leaves down. I don't know what to think about RH's blog entry about the reality filming entry. Kendra sure does fit the criteria more than any of the Kardashians do. Kris Jenner seems to be quite a shark and I think she might put up with anyone's behavior...even Kate's....if there was enough money in it for her.
This latest RH blog entry sounds like Robert has just about had it with Kate and her attorneys. They must be aggravating the hell out of him. He's sure not playing nice anymore....."most disgusting human...".

I'd never heard of Celebrity Wife Swap until just now. If true I wonder how the kids will be portrayed. Having seen some episodes of Wife Swap the kids and the husband are normally "pips" also. Kate will be the poor,plain, stay at home mom swapping lives with the glamorous Hollywood wife? If true it's a one shot deal. Next step Celebrity Rehab?
So, in Kendra's Twitter she says she arrives at her hotel, Oct. 15. She arrives home Oct. 21. Several tweeties ask her where is/was and she does not say.
It is amazing that Kate has tried to look so much like her. I wonder if she walks in to the plastic surgeon with Kendra's picture and says, "Make me just like her."

So if all this is true, Kate wasn't even around when her kids maybe went to school and heard about mom's public firing. And it really looks to me like this is what is going on. So Kate does NOT have a new show, she has one episode.
This Kendra thing all adds up and now I think it had a bigger role than I thought in her firing at CC.
CC probably had certain obligations they wanted her to fulfill that week that she told them she couldn't do. She also may have in her contract that she is supposed to inform them about other projects she takes part in for approval, since she is a representative of them. (Just like how Jon said TLC wouldn't let him do that Super Bowl commercial.) When they found out it was Kendra, this wholesome midwest family values couponing company told her she couldn't do that and still work for them.
Kate being Kate of course picked being on TV for ONE EPISODE over her long term gig at CC and told them screw you I'll film what I like you can't stop me just you try to fire me. Scott couldn't believe she would spit in their faces like that after all they've done for her, bending over backwards for her. He also couldn't believe this "wholesome" mother of eight would really choose this project. His eyes were open that she was inauthentic, hypocritical and the like. Scott saw his company and all his charities in jeopardy for associating with her and this project. So Scott said screw you back and fired off that letter. He called her bluff. Makes sense to me.
lonnggg night here in south jersey. All is well today. My opinion it wasn't as bad as Irene was last year but still up there. We were directly in the path. No power lost. God is good.

My sister and I lived through a hurricane in Miami when we were kids, we remember the rain coming 'through' the windows. But I have not lived through anything close to that until last night. In 2002 a tornado marched right down our street, but that was not the kind of sustained battering and anxiousness that we had last night.
It was still dark this morning when HunnyBunny left for work, but we took a tour around the outside of the house with flashlights this morning, checking the siding and the roof as best we could. It is still raining and blowing and that made a look-see even harder. Now that it is light, we lost a 60 year old willow, which landed on a young 16 year old oak (that is young for an oak) and broke the top off the oak. I dont know if it will come back, probably will.
Took HunnyBunny 4 times as long to get to work due to massive debris in roads, flooded roads and non-functioning traffic lights.
BUT! We are good! no loss of food, or belongings! We had hurricane snow last night and might get some today too. My mother lost some shingles on her condo and ended up with a leaky bedroom ceiling, but someone is coming about it this morning. She is good. My frail ex MIL is ok, I will go over there today so she can talk it out, and so I can see with my eyes if her house is ok. My ex husband just LOVES it when I do that! NOT! lol.
My area of Ohio isnt done yet, but I think the worst is over. The flooding in my basement laundry room is receding, and I will be making good use of the shop vac today and the gallons of bleach I stocked up on.
PS, it is really hard to sleep with wind, rain, and debris slamming into your bedroom window all night. Who knew?

I don't understand....don't you technically have to have a husband in order for the wives to be swapped? They allow someone's child/children to left with a single parent on the show now?
Is it possible that Kate G. and Kendra were filming something else? Or something additional together that week? Or would it have to have been Wife Swap?
My recollection of that show was that it was critical to have both a wife AND a husband. Plus...aren't the swapped wives supposed to spend that week at the homes of each other? Wouldn't Kendra have had to have spent that week in PA at Kate's house? I thought that the premise of that show heavily relied on the swapped wives' interactions with each other's husbands. Have they radically changed the show from when I saw it years ago?

I remember at least one regular wife swap episode that had a divorced mom. I think the dad was part of the show too.
Eastern Ontario here...winds were crazy around 2:00am and blew over our gazebo, ripped our side gate from all but one hinge and knocked a few large branches out of our Maple. No rain though.
I can only imagine what it's been like for those of you actually IN the storm's path. Thinking of all of you and hoping you are safe and well.
I think we can assume that Kate was filming when she pretended that the very public firing from CC never even happened. And omg, if the kids were involved with filming when the shit hit the fan, and Kate wasn't there for them, then I can not agree more with Robert. That is disgusting.

I know everyone is focused on northeast right now, everything looks so bad on the news. Cleaning up after flooding is awful. There is major damage in outer banks to, for anyone who wants updates Dare County has great information at darecountyem.com They get hurricanes all the time, they have a lot of practice with emergency management.
A lot of counties along Chesapeake Bay still have roads in low lying areas closed because of flooding, damage, or trees down.
I feel so much sympathy for families and crewmates of the Bounty sailors who were lost. That Coast Guard rescue is just a high-profile example of what they do every day.
Everyone keep checking in about your area when you can. I learn more about the smaller areas here than on the Weather Channel which is focused on NJ and NYC mostly.

If this is true why would she have the makeup artist with her. And if she was filming the dating show didn't she once say that was Jamie's concept and that she would be involved. She never mentions Jamie anymore yet Jamie oddly came and spent a week with her and KT just couldn't look at the dust on the stove vent another moment thereafter. Sort of like the mystery man (probably Mr. Smith who could only be PB - think pizza - the man loves pizza) that left preparation for his own home to go and clean her gutters and for whom either she or hopefully Katherine provided a meal. If you eat at her house you must literally sing for your supper.

I think I was 14 during the Apollo 13 crisis. I remember being annoyed about 'my show' not being on and all 3, count em 3, channels that we had at the time had nothing but news on them. My mother said, "Yes, dear, but this is history, now you really should pay attention to what they are saying and teaching." At the time it was Walter Cronkite with a couple of plastic rocket models in his hands trying to demonstrate what was going on, not like the experts and graphics and satellite feed the news carries now.
I remember asking "What happens if they cant fix it up there?" and my mother saying "Then they will die up there, I'm afraid, and several kids like you will lose their dads."
THAT is how you parent during a time of crisis, Kate, not get annoyed and validate your kids' self centeredness over a reality show. Otherwise your kids will be the only ones of their generation who dont remember anything about Frankenstorm. And you'll think it's cute when your daughters say "huh? Whatever!" and you'll think it is stupid, clueless, and beating-worthy when your sons do the exact same.
OHHHHH! There's a Celebrity Wife Swap.....I didn't realize that. I was thinking of that wife swap show from years ago with just regular "mediocre" people on it. I didn't realize there was now a Celebrity Wife Swap show.
Yes...now it makes so much more sense to me. I couldn't figure out how they could work single mom Kate into the premise of what the original Wife Swap was.

Meh. We all know Kate's going to spend the rest of her pathetic life wandering from one stagnant gig to another to try to keep her wretched self out there. If it's not a tasteless reality show with with a porn star it'll be something else. It won't make a bit of difference. You can put an evening gown on a pig, smear lipstick on its face and soak it in perfume but at the end of the day it's still a pig. Her hey-day is over.
It's just sad that the kids have to witness their mother decline into madness a little more every day.
