Happy Thanksgiving

Oops, that's not a turkey! We're always searching for reality worth watching to tell you about, and here's another. If you're looking for something light after a heavy Thanksgiving meal, try some sushi. Jiro Dreams of Sushi, that is. Jiro Dreams is a 2011 Japanese documentary (it has subtitles) about Michelin three-star sushi chef Jiro Ono, whose small, simple restaurant makes the best sushi in the world.

Ono has been working nearly his whole life. At age seven, his alcoholic father abandoned him, and at age nine, he started working in a sushi shop. He never stopped.

Ono's hard work and dedication is admirable, but his perfectionism is controversial among some. Once, one of his employees had to make 200 batches of egg sushi before Ono was satisfied. His sons, who are in their 50's, are still waiting to take over the restaurant. Ono admits he treats them harder than anyone else who worked for him. How far do you have to go to make a perfect plate, and can you go too far?

Discuss Thanksgiving, recipes, Black Friday, whatever suits your fancy, and Jiro, which is available for streaming or rent on Netflix, as well as Amazon.com. Enjoy your holiday!

I turned on the television to watch the early news at 5:00 pm today and caught the last few minutes of Katie. I may be mistaken, but I think tomorrow's show is the rerun of Kate Gosselin, and the Dance Mom person interviews. I am sure the producers went with the least interesting show Katie Couric has had thus far as I doubt many people will be tuning in on Thanksgiving Day.

My Thanksgiving story also has to do with a canister mix-up. I am not a great cook to begin with, and making gravy is always a challenge. I sprinkled flour in the roasting pan, but it seemed to roll in to a ball. The more flour, the bigger the ball. I called my husband over for help. He said, " OMG, you're using icing sugar, and you just made turkey fudge!"

Oh it has to be Close to You, come on! :)

This: "
On the day that you were born the angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair
Of golden starlight in your eyes of blue"

And this?

"That is why all the girls in town
(Girls in town)
Follow you
(Follow you)
All around
(All around)
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you"

Did I mention my dog is bell trained? He rings a little bell to go potty.

Well this pug within an hour of being here he is ringing the bell. And with a vengeance. I don't think he is bell trained. Are they really smart? It took my dog several weeks to even notice a bell was there let alone learn how to ring it.

Dmasy said...

Admin, bell trained? That sounds so clever. Is the bell tied to a doorknob?

There's always Elizabeth Barrett Browning:

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, --- I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.
You rock it, Kate.
Your forever dedicated and loving servant,
Milo

Yes you can either tie it with a long string to the doorknob, or hang a regular painting hook about a foot off the ground and hang it from there. A little Christmas bell.

I prefer hanging it next to the door so that I don't hear the bell whenever humans go in and out and think he's ringing it. However for traveling, the doorknob one comes along. Easier.

Cut it out you guys. Just the thought of Milo wooing Kate with that song and that poem is making me ill.
I guess I'm not nearly as romantic as you two. All I can picture is Milo picking nits out of Kate's hair when the two of them are together.

I'm not so sure it should be "Close to You". Years ago a co-worker and I would make up alternate song lyrics. We used to sing along to "Wind Beneath My Wings" our our special lyrics:

'Did you ever know that you're a zero
You're everything I don't want to be
And I could fly higher than George Segal
If you were the wind beneath my wings'

Admin, my god-dog (yes, a canine god-son) rings a bell to go out. He is a sweet wire-haired dachshund - who, by the way, is recovering after ingesting part of a wine cork (major surgery, with complications). Have fun with the puggy!

Where was the turkey then? You needed that whipped cream for the Green (looks like Kate slop) Jell-O mold!

Thinking about Milo, I don't believe anyone in their right mind would be comfortable with all that adoration being dumped all over them, especially publicly. It's just not normal in any way, shape or form. That Kate didn't nip that in the bud a long time ago, and even encourages it to the point of Milo now going completely off the deep end, tells me Kate is, indeed, not in her right mind. It tells me Milo isn't in her right mind either. This is truly the stuff of a very scary Stephen King novel.

-----------------

Love this, you've explained perfectly what this bizarre, sick relationship between Kate and Milo is. To go one step further, I've always felt (based on some tweets) that Milo sends things to Kate and the kids and that she's not a poverty-stricken hick living in a hut. And Kate will never turn down anything that's free.

Good point!! I'm pretty computer savvy but I didn't really understand twitter until I really looked at it and joined in. It's not really like any other form of social media that has ever been out there. The concept is very unique and in my opinion harder to understand than Facebook or other forms. It's unlikely she would even understand you can "shout out" on it without having used it before.

Also next time, Kate, could you please do something MADY wants to do? Instead of what you want to do? (I.e. me, me, me) Maybe watch an age appropriate movie, listen to music, play a board game together. SOMETHING.

Regarding being bell trained. All of our dogs were bell trained. It was a silver bell that sat on the floor by the back door and the dogs hit the little knob on the top to ring it. Just like you'd ring to get the attention of a worker if you are at a counter in a store and the workers are all in the back area. Then we adopted a mixed breed giant puppy, Kismet, who tore it to pieces. Must get another one. Scout taps the floor where the bell used to be when she wants to go out.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
For all you history buffs-here is a little Proclamation from 1789

George Washington's 1789 Thanksgiving Proclamation

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to "recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:"

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble than
ks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3d day of October, A.D. 1789.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who are celebrating the day. That wonderful aroma of roasting turkey is wafting its way up north making my mouth water. Hope you all find a way to enjoy your day however you do it.

Maybe not next year, but sometime in the future I think Canada will just merge with the US so we will all be celebrating the holiday at the same time. Our newspaper carrier just delivered a big pile of flyers with "Black Friday" shopping bargains. Why? Our Thanksgiving was in October. It's over. So I'm flipping the giant retail corporations a big ole bird of a different feather for trying to manipulate me into believing I that I'm an idiot if I don't see what I'm missing by shopping when I see fit instead of letting them decide for me.

And I don't care much for this Black Friday label either. It has an ominous ring to it that makes me think something bad is going to happen the way it has for Black Tuesday or Black Thursday. It conjures up visions of men in black uniforms who will come knocking on my door flashing their bar-code badges and questioning me on why I'm not out there fighting for the great deals at Walmart.

Auntie Ann- I need to respectfully disagree with you about a merger between Canada and the United States.

My family has been Canadian for sixteen generations, since the first French came to Canada. On my mother's side are United Empire Loyalists, who chose not to become American and were displaced from their homes and came to Ontario, losing everything as a result, and
having to start over in a new land.

I have American relatives who pioneered in Stark County, Ohio; fought at Antietam for the Union in the War Between the States, and then went West to fight in the Indian wars.A relative died in Andersonville Prison as a POW.My Grandma was born in Crow Island, Michigan.

So you can see that I'm not blindly patriotic, as I have family on both sides of the border, equally dear to my memory. But I think Canada is the best country in the world and would strongly resist such a merger. Close friendship, yes; assimilation by America, NO.

AuntieAnn said...

IDModo, I strongly agree with your disagreement. These Black Friday flyers that arrived in our mail box today really set me off prompting my cynical comment. Our Thanksgiving is over but apparently these retail giants would like us to think differently.

Jumping In said...

Auntie Ann....I am with you, no manipulation for me either. The Black Friday shopping day applies to the United States and is a tradition known to Americans. It's just something that has no reference here, as our Thanksgiving is in October! I am not knocking Black Friday one way or another, but it isn't relative to Canadians. I live close to the U.S. border, there will be many people crossing over from Canada tomorrow to shop, I suspect the Black Friday advertising here is an attempt to keep those dollars in Canada.

To all are neighbours celebrating Thanksgiving today, have a wonderful day with family and friends.

Anonymous said...

IDModo (#76) - My background is fairly similar to yours. My family through both parents came to Canada from Ireland in the 1850's. I have travelled extensively and have found Canada to be the best country in the world. I say this with love and respect for all my U.S. relatives scattered throughout the U.S. I agree both countries maintain the best of friends but I would not support a merger either.

It's also sad that nobody mentioned that today is the anniversary (49th I think)of the assassination of JFK. I bet everybody who is old enough remembers what they were doing or where they were when they heard the news!

AuntieAnn said...

IDModo, yes we agree. I share your 'sediments'. I have many relatives living in the US too. My paternal grandparents' names are written somewhere in the Ellis Island immigration record books.

About the annivesary of the assassination of Kennedy, DH and I talked about it this morning. I will never forget the radio playing mournful, droning, marching band songs the entire day. Every few minutes the announcer came on to say "the president of the United States is dead". It's ingrained in my memory as a sad day indeed.

Not for me!

Ingrid, I saw that Baby Peggy talked about on TCM as well. Going to watch it even though it is sure to be sad. From the promo, it would seem that if Baby Peggy didn't work, she/they didn't eat. Even the first child star was singing for her supper and financially supporting the family. So glad there are some child labor laws. They may seem weak in spots, but glad there are some.

I was driving home over the Skyway Bridge with my Mom and the news came on the radio. It was my (now ex)husband's birthday, and his Dad and I were taking him out for supper. Ex was a news reporter and had to go in to work so his birthday was kinda messed up, but we didn't feel much like eating anyway, and stayed glued to the tv all night.

I saw Oswald's shooting live from the jail.It so looked like a set-up, there was nobody walking in front of him to guard him as there should have been.It was awful.

Foxy, I agree. Was hesitant to mention it, but it seems that she would know how to set a table since she is so public with everything. It's not rocket science.

What direction does that side of the house face? Would the sun usually be shining in those windows by the table this time of year in the afternoon? If it was sunny today at her house, just wondering.

When guys have a good friendship we refer to it as a bromance. Is there a term for Milo and Kate's 'relationship'? Does one need to be invented just for them?

localyocul said...

The paper cups are strange for Thansgiving. At 8the we had half a glass of wine in wine glasses. I know not everyone approves of kids having wine with dinner but we were taught how to properly sip wine. It was once a year. Even tonight the four yearold and seven year olds had regular glasses.

I live in Quebec and we got flyers announcing Black Friday. The only way I know about Black Friday is through this blog. Many French Canadians here have no idea what it is. It has been a work day for everyone here and there is no festive atmoshphere besides the Walmart and other big stores Christmas decorations. People here are getting ready for Christmas.

When JFK was assasinated I was in grade school and we were all sent home. I did a scrapbook with everything I could find in the newspapers about it. I will never forget it.

IDModo, Jolie Jacquelyn, AuntieAnn and any other Canadians that are on this blog tonight, I'm glad to see I'm not alone. I can pratically smell all the good food cooking from our neighbors in the U.S. I wish you all good times with your families.

Oh what do with this turkey caracas? Ship it to Venezuela? Does anyone have a coupon for organic coconut milk?

Seriously, I am too tired to deal with it tonight and there is no room in the frig to save it for tomorrow. UGH. Maybe I'll freeze it in one of my 444 pink iFreezers and deal with it tomorrow.

HunnyBunny was kind enough to wrap up all the leftovers and put them in the frig! What a sweetie! Now the only thing left is to unload the dishwasher, again, reload the dishwasher, again, and wash down the table and stove, again. THEN, Miracle on 34th Street Original B&W Version, here I come! Plus pie of course.

Curiously, Katherine never did show up here today even though I wrote it on a yellow sticky note that I faithfully required her to appear! Sigh. I have to do everything all all all aloneish on my ownish, alone. Sigh.

non proper table setting is one of my small pet peeves. At the risk of irritating anyone with another one of my stories, my great grandmother, divorced with 3 children, was kitchen help for the Henry Ford family. And was in charge of setting the tables. So when I see the mistakes that kate made on that table, i can picture my tiny great grandmother in her black lace up shoes, storming over to the table "no, no, no, now THIS is how it goes", If you REALLY messed up, you got a few words from her in German. God, I loved her so much. Had her till I was 17. After she died, and my uncle was cleaning out her apartment, they found a big box in her room with a note that said "To Dwindle on her wedding day", it was a simple, small homemade afghan. The family gave it to me right away. It is still on my bed.

And I havent even hit the rumspringa yet tonight!

What's with Kate? Paper cups, no picture of a sumptuous meal? I really pity these children, not only do they not have any immediate family with them, but they also don't seem to have any outdoor connections (friends, sleepovers, individual contacts). Kate alienates them from all the joys in life. Like others on here I only hope that they have some sort of a normal life when they're with Jon.

I too thought I saw snow in that pic, but then WTH maybe it was just some weird glare.

And the pic of the dog, i do think is Shoka based on the markings around the eyes, which are partially obscured by the photoshopping, but still there. In both pictures the dog looks unhappy. No panting with joy, no light in his eyes, no 'smiles' to be camera close to one of his humans. In the new pic, a chew toy untouched. His sweet face just looks miserable. There is no spark.

Not for a second do I believe her daughter said this. 8 year olds simply don't speak this way. They eat, they run off to play, they get on with their busy lives. And as always, Kate makes it all about her -- what a good mommy she is. Something happened, she's trying way too hard to prove what a wonderful, caring mommy she is.

Jane, you're right. Kate always has to try and validate herself as a "good mother". "Normal" parents don't have to constantly try and convince others, particularly strangers, that they are "good" parents. We just quietly do the job of being parents and don't expect kudos for doing that job.

My Mama taught us how to set the table when we were young and we don't even think about it now. We just do it. Today, her table was beautifully set (and had been since Tuesday). She's wonderful. Kind of surprises me that people you think would know how to do this don't have a clue, and their table manners. Sheez. You can even buy place mats that show where everything goes. It's like a matching the shapes puzzle. It's fun and children learn.

Seems the routines that we grew up with are less important now. Mama still irons her card table tablecloths and napkins when it's her turn for bridge club and she uses her best china, etc
. Me, I know every short cut there is to avoid the ironing board.

Wonder why it seems to take longer to put up the food and clean up afterwards? I'm thankful we had leftovers. For supper, I had a small bowl of fresh cranberry-orange-triple sec relish. Did add more triple sec and made it WAY better.

Now what to do with the turkey leftovers. Suggestions?

So much of Kate's upbringing is a mystery. We learn from our parents and families. Do you wonder if she never saw a table nicely set? Do you wonder if her mom never got out the good china for a special occasion?

I think her wafting of Thanksgiving smell is the candles on the table. If she had really cooked we would have had a picture of the Turkey and all the trimmings. Maybe she will have dinner for them over the weekend but no way do I believe she had dinner today.

I'm with Butterfly - I'm from a large family and my mom never had "good" china and never set a perfect table. We normally ate in the kitchen but on holidays we used the dining room. I had to learn how to set a proper table when I got married because my husband was an officer and back in the day we were expected to entertain. Now it's too much trouble to drag out the china so we don't do it. We've also always used place mats instead of a tablecloth (and paper towels instead of napkins). However, the food is always good so that makes up for my lack of Martha Stewartisness.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Haven't been on the blog since Sunday night so I'm way behind in the posts but I have to chime in about chicken bones for dogs. I agree with IDModo. Our eight year old German Shepard is also on a raw food diet as were his parents. He does eat raw chicken, bone and all. He gets a turkey neck every Saturday and Sunday morning for breakfast. We buy them frozen at our local grain store where we get his food. He had a treat this morning as he got the fresh turkey neck from our turkey as well as the heart and gizzards. But unlike IDModo he also gets fresh fruits (except grapes) and vegetables. We buy his raw food in 5lb. frozen chubs which we cut into 1lb. portions for his meals.

capecodmama said...

I should add that our dog does not eat his food frozen. We thaw it out in the refrigerator before he gets it.

Yes, I know how to set a table but 95% of the time we're eating at the bar in the kitchen. My favorite china is the corelle I've had forever and my good china is in the attic. Life became full of shortcuts while working 10 hours a day and all these years later, still in that mode most of the time. Oh, and yesterday's newspapers make great placemats, use and recycle.

Shame that Kate feels she has to prove everything is perfect by fabricating pictures of situations. Isn't there a holiday custody arrangement? Thanksgiving J, Christmas K, then change next year. K, just be honest.

It's just me and my daughter (and my bell-ringing bichon) but I always set the table and served family style from the time she was old enough to sit in a booster seat. She's a teen now so a lot of times we don't have time to eat together but at least a few times a week. We don't set the table perfectly and I'll just put a pot on the table instead of putting it in a bowl but I'm just flabbergasted that Kate with all her money would not use some good china, lines, and real glasses on Thanksgiving. We ate at my moms today with aunts, uncles, cousins. I grew up far away from extended family so the years when grandparents weren't visiting it was just the seven count em seven of us but my mom always used the good linens and china. And we had no money! It's just so sad to me that with family in the immediate area those kids had Thanksgiving probably portioned out to them and did not get to see any cousins or aunts or uncles or grandparents. It's ridiculous.

Here was my thanksgiving day:

I am a disabled, bedridden dialysis patient who lives in a long term nursing home near the Cracker Barrel in Attalla, AL. My parents, who are in their very early 70's drove from Albertville to Attalla (35 miles) to eat at the Cracker Barrel in Attalla today on Thanksgiving Day (and plan to have the family dinner there tomorrow night. Almost a dozen people). and bring me something to eat from the restaurant. I didn't want Thanksgiving food. I have been wanting a cheeseburger that was homemade and onion rings for a very long time. They ordered it, and they were thinking, that is too expensive for what they got for me when they looked in the take out box. They also said they got small portions on their food plates and they have ate there many times in the last couple of years. They also eat at the Cracker Barrel in Albertville. My dad said, they hardly give you any onion rings, I had 1 that was a little big and 7 small ones. They brought it to me and I couldn't wait! I waited till they left and I started to eat. The first bite was not good. The patty was burnt, and the burnt smell was all through the hamburger. The onion rings were not crunchy. I was so excited and couldn't wait for the food because the nursing home where I live, the food is very bad. They do not feed us enough food at supper to get you through the night till breakfast. My parents were upset at the little amount of food that they got and the total with the hamburger and onion rings was 35 dollars. My mom said there was hardly any customers in there and I figured they just cooked small batches and tried to stretch what they could so they wouldn't have to throw out so much. I don't know how much my portion was, but I said it must of been over 10 dollars, since my dad said it was expensive. I don't have the reciept.

My oldest son and DIL came and brought me a plate, I ate some and I will take the rest to dialysis tomorrow with me. +

Food Disaster:

When my oldest son was five, we were over at my mothers for the 4th of July. She had made the old fashioned chocolate pies (double boiler) and merigne by electric hand beater. We were taking food out to the picnic table and she let daniel take one of the two pies that she made out to the table. He had a good grip on it and had to walk down 4 steps, no railings and across the carport out into the yard to the table. Bless his heart, he dropped it on the concrete in the carport. That little brave guy walked slowly back into the house and had bursted out in tears, but not crying, he had tears running down his face and his lips were quivering and he looked up at his Gma and said in a soft voice, Bobba, I dropped the pie. And my mother said, You did? very sweet to him. (take note kate). Well, she said, don't worry, it is ok! We have plenty of food and another pie and I have strawberries and I can put them out in a big bowl and if we want more pies, I can make some more! Then my mother, (kate take note) got the other pie and handed to daniel and said, Here daniel, take this other pie out to the table. You want me too, bobba? Yes, you'll do fine. Mother said she knew he wouldn't drop it. Mother watched him, he didn't know she was watching and she said he was so careful and got it on the table! How many southern women cooks would let that happen? I am so proud of my mother. She still says today that incident gave daniel the confidence that he has today, he is very very confident. He likes 1 class to have his Ed. Specialist. It breaks my heart the way kate has destroyed her kids confidence, especially the boys. She clearly hates them. I think she wishes that they would of been all girls. That would make HER more popular. But the 6 girls would still gotten beat with the wooden spoon through potty training. She is going to regret treating her kids like dirt and less than sub-human. She will be treated the same way much worser than she ever dreamed.

I came from a family of 8 in a small Ohio farming community. My mom set a lovely table for every single meal except breakfast: table cloth and cloth napkins. The works. Never a jar or container to be seen on her table. Everything in a serving dish with the appropriate utensil. Iced tea to drink? Of course we used iced tea spoons.

Me? I do what I can. My daughters set a lovely table today. All white dishes with silver candles and silver serving utensils etc. It was beautiful.

Hubby and I both work and we're tired and busy with kid stuff in the evening. Most evenings we sit at the counter and eat casually, but I always fix a good meal. Sometimes we use paper plates though not often. I do not want all the clean up on a weekday night.

I tried IDModo's raw food diet with our Golden about a year ago, but she couldn't get used to it. I wish we had done it sooner. She died from cancer last winter. Our next dog will be fed a raw diet. We bought what I thought was quality food, but even that had sooo many fillers in it which the vet said contributed to the fatty tumors she suddenly developed.

Hope everyone's day was lovely and big shout out to our Canadian friends who are always the kindest and most gracious people around.

Turkey and sage soup

At medium heat, melt 2 tbs butter in a large cooking pot, add 1 diced onion, 1 diced celery stalk and 25 finely chopped sage fresh sage leaves. Cook 3 to 4 minutes, then add 4 tbs flour and cook for another 2 minutes. Progressively add 5 cups of chicken bouillon (I use Campbell's, in the carton...) while scraping the bottom of the pot with a wooden spoon so the flour won't stick to it. Bring to boil. Add 1/2 cup of brown rice, salt and pepper, and simmer, half covered, for 30 minutes or until the rice is fully cooked. In the meantime, in a large skillet, melt 2 tsp of butter on medium heat, add 8 ounces of sliced fresh mushrooms, salt, pepper, and cook for about 8 minutes, or until golden. Add the cooked mushrooms to the soup. Then add 1 cup 1/2 of diced leftover turkey and 1/2 cup heavy cream (35%). Let simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes, then serve, sprinkled with grated parmean cheese if you have it on hand.

Hey capecodmama :o)

How about turkey pot pie?

It's really easy: all you need is one box of "Readymade Pie Crust", leftover turkey meat, leftover cooked veggies (peas, carrots, string beans, corn), and a touch of leftover gravy.

Roll out pie crust in a deep pie dish. In a bowl, mix together turkey meat, veggies, and gravy. Season with salt and pepper, if necessary. Pour into pie crust. Cover with pie crust on top. Make holes on top with a fork, and brush crust with a beaten egg yolk.

Allow the crust to bake until crust is golden brown.

That's it!

I can't stand that lazy bitch using paper plates and cups at what seems to be EVERY meal. At a time when we are trying to recycle and create less garbage on the planet, this POS thinks it is acceptable to never use regular plates because she has 8, count 'em, 8 kids and it's too much work for her to put them in the dishwasher(s). There is NO other reason for her to do it but her stubbornness and attitude that with this many kids, she has a reason to constantly use paper. Makes me sick.

@LukeBandit I'm so sorry your meal was a disappointment! My sister is in a longterm care facility right now and the food is bad there too. She is able to leave for lunches, so we will pick her up on Saturday and take her where she wants to go. I wish I could bring you a cheeseburger!

Your story about your son and your mother is precious and an excellent example of a woman who knows what is truly important in life. I'll bet his love for her is boundless. He'll never forget that day.

Admin, how long do you have pug for? He sounds like he is settling in nicely at your place and that is what I love about pugs. They have such an easygoing nature and a real cute, clown-like personality. My pug gets called "son" around our house. Drives my family crazy but I always say he is the little boy mommy never had. LOL.

Until Saturday evening, Paper! He really has made himself right at home. Whatever you want him to do he does it. He is a little piglet who follows me everywhere and whines if I leave. He has already hurdled his baby gate. How is that POSSIBLE??? I have no idea but the baby gate was exactly where I left it with Mr. P on the other side. LOL. He is VERY different from my dog so this is quite an experience.

When I got my pug, I did some research and found out that pugs follow you everywhere because they were the 'king's dogs' in the Chinese emperor's days and were babied and carried around by their owners. Their love of food apparently comes from their regal owners feeding and spoiling them at every chance. Well, I have to say things haven't changed because my pug follows me everywhere, even to the bathroom. He also has no off switch when it comes to food. I have to wear earplugs at night because of his snoring. Who cares. I love the little devil.

Glad you are enjoying your babysitting stint Admin!

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

Paper well that explains a lot.

He could be in a dead sleep snoring away like he's hibernating but if I get up to get a cookie for 30 seconds he awakes instantly and follows me with this look like so what you up to what we doing now, what-we cooking up there, girlfriend? And why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near????

Hey, he is the Milo version of a dog!

lukebandit, I am so sorry about your Thanksgiving meal. I wish I lived near enough to deliver a fat, juicy cheeseburger to you.

We have a Cracker Barrel sorta' near us. The food is delicious and the portions are more than average. The one near you sounds poorly managed.

The story about your son and the pie is so sweet. I could almost see his earnest face and his walk of complete concentration -- all the way to the picnic table.

Admin, sounds like you are being charmed by your little houseguest. Your anecdotes are delightful.

I have an Aunt with a pug. He "snorts" constantly and looks at us as if to say, "Yeah, you would too..."

Pug story. one of our dogs is a pug, and he is an eating MACHINE! Friend gave him to us, when friend was in grad school and did not have time for Mr Pug anymore, and as you have experienced they are Velcro dogs - stick by your side 24/7.
Once soon after we got him, we had dinner in kitchen. I had made a big batch of potatoes and creamed them in mixer, so I served it in mixing bowl. Right after dinner we all got up to do things. I left the potato bowl on the table while I went in laundry room, just for a minute. When I came back, Mr Pug was on kitchen table, his little pug face in the bowl. I yelled his name, and he calmly turned to me, mashed potato all over his face, as if to say ”why are you yelling? Potatoes? What potatoes? I am just standing here minding my own business!”
He and my cat have a conspiracy. The cat will kill a mouse and leave it on the doorstep. Mr Pug will look for the cat offerings when we head out for a walk, if I am not quick enough he swallows the mouse WHOLE! Mr Pug has never had a tummy problem from this either, I suppose he poops out the mouse bones.

I would bet everything I own that Kates kids would not be very happy being referred to as the "littles" all the time. Those kids are 8 yrs. old if I'm not mistaken and at that age they are starting to think of themselves as big kids and not babies anymore. Give it a rest Kate and let your kids grow up.

I have to add my pug story and baby gates- cuz I didnt know the little bugger could hurdle a gate either! We leave the gates up at night or when we leave for long periods of time- but she gets a fairly decent amount of house to play in. Anyway, one day, a stray german sheppard followed my kid into the house, dont ask, and I ran to get a slice of cheese to lure the dog out of the house, all the while my pug was, I thought, safely behind her baby gates. Well, next thing I know, she is leaping the baby gates to get at the german shepard- she also lept over the couch cuz she was so excited that a friend came to see her that she went nuts and was literally bouncing around the house. I was shocked. So apparently my little pug only obeys the baby gate laws to please me, and really she can jump those bad boys anytime she feels like it. Go figure. The little dickens.

To the Canadians who are expressing displeasure at the thought of a merger with the United States: The European Union was a start. The North American Union is next. One poster mentioned seeing U.S. tanks/military running drills in Canada. Did you also know what country came in to aid in the Katrina disaster? Mexico. Mexican troops worked with the U.S. Why would the U.S., the "richest" country in the world, need help from Mexico?

This is a great Black Friday post about delaying gratification:

http://www.getrichslowly.org/blog/2012/11/23/ask-the-readers-how-can-you-help-children-appreciate-delayed-gratification/

"Like me, my wife grew up envying friends who got everything they wanted. So when we had our children, she wanted to give them all of the things we saw our rich childhood friends receive. We’ve done our best to get them nearly everything they’ve ever put on a wish list, hoping we’ll witness the elation we would have felt in getting that kind of stuff at their age.

No such luck. Sure, they’ll usually crack a fleeting smile upon opening a present – but then it’s calmly on to the next gift. Often they won’t even ask to open some of the toys they received when the party is over. The pleasure centers in their brains appear to be overloaded by getting all of this stuff, and now, like the longtime addict who needs epic amounts of opiates to feel the slightest high, they’re hardly swayed by routine offerings.

Thankfully, this hasn’t resulted in spoiled attitudes on the kids’ part. They always kindly thank the gift-givers and I think they understand that they have it pretty sweet in the material-goods department. But because they have never felt the sting of prolonged want, it doesn’t seem that they can feel the highs associated with getting a long-awaited gift."

Anonnymous 176 - in the European Union, countries retain their sovereignty, nationality and governments. France is still France; Belgium, still Belgium. The EU was primarily instituted for trade purposes.

We already have a North American Free Trade agreement (NAFTA), which many of us voted against, incidentally. The only difference is that we have not amalgamated our currency as they have in Europe. This does not mean that we have merged with the US,nor has Mexico.

Canadians were also involved in helping after Katrina, a conveniently forgotten fact. The Mexican army was much closer geographically so it makes sense that they would respond in a larger way.

Lastly, whenever you have something to say to me, you are Anonymous. Why is that?

So I guess Subway which is worth 1.8 BILLION really needed to sell those five sandwiches to make it? Disturbing.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I was gonna say isn't NAFTA essentially the EU lite?

I don't think we should become one but I think it's good that we all get along. We don't appreciate it as much as we should. Can you imagine if we had an enemy living right next door like what happened so often in Europe through the ages?

When my Irish mother died, 18 year ago, she made me promise to use the good Irish china. One of her biggest regrets, she said, was that she only used it twice a year on Thanksgiving and Christmas. So our china is in a kitchen cabinet next to the regular dishes. We use it daily. Not strange to see a teenage boy with a sandwich and chips on a white china plate with a silver rim and faint shamrocks along the edge. And in all these years we've only lost one teacup.

Agree 100%. Having lived in various areas of both countries which are actually quite different in many ways, I can attest that these are two of the greatest nations in the world!!Cooperation and an amicable relationship are key to the success of both.

Dwindle said...

Growing up in Detroit, all things Canadian were considered things of our closest most beloved cousins. As a kid, I just assumed all of the US felt that way.

When it was revealed that Canadians had, at great personal risk, smuggled out some Americans during the Iran hostage crisis, Detroit posted a huge billboard facing Canada, that said "Merci, Canada" I cried when I saw it. One month later, the winter Olympics were held in NY and during opening ceremonies the Canadian athletes got a ROARING welcome into the stadium. In my mind, that is the way it all should be, our closest cousins and we need to keep it just like that.

Hate to bust your bubble that Kate posted an old Thanksgiving picture, but on Nov. 20 she posted a picture of one of the tup boys at the table. In the background, against the fire place is the same handwritten small poster and the same pumpkin decoration on the table. So unless she doesn't change anything year after year, I think what you saw was glare. BTW, that house is the coldest place I have ever seen (not homey) at all.

I do believe the kids were with Jon most of the day and they came home at dinner time. I bet Kate served a microwave meal. If she had "friends" over, then I could see her using Katherine. I guess ol' Steve had better things to do this year. Also, when she said she greeted the kids in the morning with Happy Thanksgiving, that could have been by phone.

As far as that Shoka photo, it is cagey of Kate to post that. Obviously, it's of a much younger Shoka.

Kate really does live in a alternate universe. Eventually the lying will catch up to her as she will have to produce Shoka or explain what happened and the kids are getting older and less likely to keep quiet. Yep, her days are numbered.
