Veteran's Day

On this special day, we honor veteran Lieutenant Colonel Michael Strobl, our military parents, siblings and friends, and all those who served.

Odds are you don't know the name Michael Strobl. But you may have heard of the essay he wrote, A Marine's Journey Home, which was subsequently turned into the moving film Taking Chance. Occasionally, there are "reality" stories that should be told. This was one of them.

Wrote Strobl: "I didn't know how to express my sympathy for their loss and my gratitude for their sacrifice. Now, however, they were repeatedly thanking me for bringing their son home and for my service. I was humbled beyond words. I told them that I had some of his things and asked if we could find a quiet place. The five of us ended up in what appeared to be a computer lab -- not what I had envisioned for this occasion.

After we had arranged five chairs around a small table, I told them about our trip. I told them how, at every step, Chance was treated with respect, dignity, and honor. I told them about the staff at Dover and all the folks at Northwest Airlines. I tried to convey how the entire nation -- from Dover to Philadelphia to Minneapolis to Billings and Riverton -- expressed grief and sympathy over their loss."

Taking Chance is available around the web including on Netflix, Amazon, and HBOgo.

GIVE THANKS

As the Thanksgiving season draws near, I’m reminded of the many, many things that I’m thankful for.

But I’m especially thankful that I don’t have anyone in my life who would ever harm a child, or turn a blind eye while someone else harms a child, or publicly support or work for a person who abuses little children and animals.

All the money in the world won’t buy your children’s love.''
~~~~~~~~~~~
I give thanks to YOU. I'm sure I'm not the only one that is thankful that there is at least ONE person who is moral enough and brave enough to inform us of the vile things that KK has done.
I am hoping that Melissa and Tony go all the way and win DWTS. Tony seems so nice and must really appreciate getting to dance with a real dancer. Can you even imagine what he really went through trying to teach Kate anything? What a horrible job he had!
I wish ROL would drop Kate's stories like a "hot potato". She craves any attention, both good and bad. Doesn't matter which way it goes.
Well, that's we think in our little corner of the intel community :) Just our opinion, folks.
As with any soup recipe, one tweaks it time and time again till you get it just right for your family. For example, I think that is twice the chives I started with, but I LOVE chives. If you do not, you can leave them out, or only use them for garnish. I have done that before, but then I use some scallion greens, just to get a bit more green in the soup. I have also thickened it a bit with a few potato flakes or bread crumbs, only because I dont love thin soups. It is also shockingly economical!
Just reading this latest with Kate and the legal stuff and production stuff going on all Secret Decoder Style, makes me exhausted. What a waste of her life. If she wanted another reality show so bad, why couldnt she come up with something that didnt use the kids? All she wants to do is travel with Steve, strut around with a production crew wiping her butt for her, and avoid her children. Couldnt anyone think of something that didnt plunk the kids' private lives in front of the media?
Puke.
If she is funding this, is it to be a revolving door of starlets while the starlets's kids will only have to go though it once while KT's kids will have to go through it all the time. I don't think there is any way to go up when you start at the bottom. I like KW and all and think she is a great person and good dancer and probably a great mom but she sold herself short by selling her sex tapes. I thought Hank was some big time big money ball player.
I fell asleep last night and MISSED DWTS! Not happening tonight. Instant Folgers - Yum.
Actually, I use Folgers because I don't drink coffee for the flavor, just the effect.
And the one thing that blared out to me on the article is the way the number of episodes rose exponentially with the increase in money. If they didn't show 6 and 7 when it was K8, I would shudder to think how much she filmed and how much school they missed in the process. A lot more when they had a dad on board I am certain.
It says a lot about Kate that she said "thank you" to the hired help via email while giving them orders? Um, please and thank you are about as basic as you can get. She doesn't deserve a medal for doing what everyone else does normally. That's like saying an adult deserves a sticker and maybe even a little trophy for rolling out of bed and brushing their teeth every morning. That's what you're SUPPOSED to do.
Yes, but you're forgetting that you and the posters here always say Kate is a huge diva and never thinks about people but treats people like they are way beneath her.
Same as how Kate id villified for hating and being cruel to the dogs. Yet, with no ulterior motive and in an unpublic venue Kate said she loved the dogs and they lived in her basement (not outside).
See, I'm just trying to show you that what people say is not always how it is. IF you believe that Robert Hoffman's book is truly Kate's words then you also have to believe that Kate is polite and does love her dogs. That she is not a diva in her actions and words to others.
One more thing, before someone brings up then how could Kate give away the dogs, I'd like to submit the scenario that with 8 kids and goig through the divorce the 2 german sheperds were too much for her. And maybe Nala was not mild natured enough even after training to be safe around the kids.
know you have it in you to give credit to Kate for these things. It may hurt but you can do it!
No one here ever said Kate never said please and thank you. Even a murderer on death row can say thank you when his last supper comes. I think she said she loves the dogs but is in no position to care for a dog and hasn't the foggiest notion what they need. I don't disagree with you. It makes no difference to me that a child and animal abuser says I love you please and thank you. I believe she said it, it does nothing to mitigate anything else. I never said this woman is all evil all the time. She's not the devil. Just one very badly behaved woman.
I think it's just SO WEIRD, kHate's humongous NEED to have a camera in her face. Addicted, possessed, obsessed, flat out INSANELY in love with, as in a sick twisted symbiotic relationship with these particular inanimate objects - cameras and boom mikes - for gawd's sake. She is really one sick woman (NOT a mother, ever). I picture her, someday, in a locked mental health unit surrounded by fake cameras and cackling away to the air "Come and git yer popcorn."
I was thinking about Ann Rule's book on Diane Downs ("Small Sacrifices"), the woman who shot her three children because the love of her life didn't want kids. Towards the end of the book she is analyzing Down's relationship with her children and I was struck by this particular sentence: she said Diane's connection to her children was "FUNGIBLE," like a "fungus growing on a tree trunk," the children, of course, being the tree with Diane stuck to it, living on it as a convenient place to be. No true commitment of motherly unconditional love (and empathy), but a superficial connection borne of convenience, NEEDINESS and dependency.
Like kHate.
Gawd she makes me want to throw up. I've finally learned to take her in smaller doses, a weekly comment here, two or three pages of this blog read there. I hate to admit that Hate Gosselin began to make me physically ILL; from watching the show (I stopped at the fake vow renewal), to overdosing on reading too many blogs. When nausea gave way to embarrassment and shame for willingly overdosing on KK, I chose to cut myself loose (NOT "lose.").
Not one other person I have ever known has made me physically ill, even my own NPD, BPD, mentally ill "Nine-Month" mother. She loved us while she was pregnant--nine times, count 'em NINE!, but as soon as we let out the first wails of neediness, we were passed to an older sibling Dugger style, or slipped to an already over-burdened housekeeper who couldn't say "No" because she understood how really f______ed up our family was. Thank God for all of them.
Sort of OT but Small Sacrifices was what made me a fan of Ann Rule. I have since read most all of her books and in fact, my mother and I traveled to Wilmington for a book signing with Ann (the book was called And Never Let Her Go). #######################
Well, since this is Kate's show and it's being bankrolled by Kate it will be the same result every time. The following is pure speculation.
Kate goes to other family and whips their household into shape (hopefully not literally.)
Kate will be shown as a beacon of organization, masterminding and an expert at ordering people around.
The other mother will be shown completely losing it, not being able to cope and begging to go home. Kate comes home and the other mother kisses Kate's flat ass and praises her for being the single mother (cough, cough) of 8 kids and doing it so effortlessly. More gushing over Kate and a little more gushing for good measure and that's a wrap.
My heart breaks for those kids who are forced to participate in this fu--ery. Yet again, Kate is using them as pawns to further her agenda and keep her living in the manner she's become accustomed to.
Just finished watching the Truman Story with DS. The final line of the movie is so very appropriate and pertinent to Reality TV. Lives can be torn apart, the network sensationalizes it for ratings and for the audience's entertainment and when all is said and done and the series ends the audience's response is "Let's see what else is on".
If you have an opportunity to watch The Truman Show do so and you will note so many parallels to reality tv shows of today.
We're not stupid or gullible, thanks for trying though. I don't need a local to tell me Kate is a bad person, I decided that ages ago before any of them popped in here.
What exactly has the locals said that is anything different than what Kate has done in public on her reality show? Um, that's right, nothing.
Therefore, based on common sense and logical reasoning, their comments are more believable than yours.
I believe you are more literate than some sheeple, due to your word choices and syntax. But I don't buy what you're bleating. On this blog, "celebrity status," if it truly exists, is granted to those who support their assertions with facts, and who demonstrate a compassionate concern for childrens' welfare, first and foremost. Totally off topic - yesterday a young 8 pt whitetail buck attacked my dog! Who would have none of it. The two charged and stomped and chased each other back and forth in our backyard. Wasn't wise of the buck to challenge a Mountain Cur. They do NOT back down. Not always a win for the dog, as evidenced by Old Yeller, a Cur breed dog in the book (Disney took liberties), and the rabid wolf. Buck finally took off, when his romantic interest, a doe wandered away. But Bailey was on him the whole way. She had some moves that I think I'll forward to Urban Meyer.
It was scary. We had gone out on the deck to view the buck when it first appeared...DH with his phone to photograph the buck. He ended up video taping this, uh, "encounter". When the buck got up close to the deck, I was fully prepared to dive through the screen door. Bucks snort when attacking. I didn't know that. Did any of you know that. Dmsay? Your DH would like Bailey - she's a squirrel dog. Thankfully, no blood was spilled. I only aged 5 years in fear for my dog...
Absolutely will be quite happy when mating season for deer is over this year.
The shelter from which we adopted Bailey called her a "mix". We found out later she was a purebreed. WE are not hunters. She is an amazing dog, intelligent (one of previous dogs, well, let's just say DH called it "sh*t for brains" - he has such an eloquent way with the English language, no? So endearing...NOT). She was 8 months old when we adopted her, now 5. We soon discovered that she clearly she had had some trail training. But she is a pet. A house dog (the whole house, not just a "basement", Kate) and considers herself a lap dog. Much to the chagrin of some visitors when she climbs up the couch to the top, gingerly walks the edge until she can drape herself around said visitor. Like a cat. Love adults and children. I doubt she'd be enamored of Kate.
I will now watch for deer VIGILANTLY and not let her out until it's clear. I PROMISE. My heart can't take it :)
FOTK, after Hurricane Katrina our local SPCA took about 90 dogs from Louisiana who were homeless, and adopted them out. My daughter has one. Among those dogs were some Curs; I remember meeting one at our local dog park and being very impressed by her looks and apparent intelligence.
My girl Nouschi(not a squirrel dog) went after a squirrel the other day at top speed and managed to take out a portion of our backyard fence; she must have hit it pretty hard but was OK. It was a wood privacy fence with lattice on top.She has a hard head.
I am so glad Bailey was able to hold her own against the buck and not get hurt.
I just bought a can of jellied Ocean Spray crans @ Alby's. Anyone jell-us? Haha. The only thing I'm envious about, are the coveted Granny recipes here for the green JELL-O mold, with rising bubbly ginger-ale. I just realized... I bought everything for it, except @JELLO tonight- without a thought. Cottage cheese and all. Weird, now I have to make it!
So, Robert's Blogger has been taken down. Not a question. He had already mentioned (I think it was here), he wanted to keep the original GosselinBook.com website up, as long as possible. Hoffman posted the really damning stuff about Kate separately, via Blogger. Smart man.
Kate made the packaged almond-mohogany rice, and added the crans for a holiday zest-- taken from this Blog, is my guess. She is a very simple woman. The fish perhaps was papered and frozen by Chef Katherine S., back in 2009 in one of Kate's four freezers. Or the paper was left over, in the buffet table (next to the kitchen fridge on the right Kathy... but you won't see Nala there anymore ;)
If you guys read my recipes, you would know you're in good company. My Father & I once won 1st prize (runner-up), in Emeril's Cookoff contest and $1,000+ worth of his stainless-steel pans. I used his secret Paella recipe... later adapted from Spain by my Grandmother. Dad started the recipe, when he served there in the Air Force at Zaragosa AFB. He was only a young Airman, but his love for food can never be denied.
I'm okay with GosselinBook.com Blogger taken down. I've read it, several times. As long as this Blog remains, I'm good.
Admin, I apologize to you and everyone else. That was insensitive.
I guess what I truly hope isn't that this community shuts down but that the focus is no longer on Kate Gosselin, that this site can eventually evolve into "Reality TV Kids" instead of "15 Minutes Gosselin Style". Everyone would still come her and share their thoughts and lives. But the focus wouldn't be on the Gosselins.
There have been so many times when we've all felt that this had to be the end, that there wasn't anything more she could do to stay relevant. And yet she pops up again and again like a bad case of (fill in the blank).
Sometimes it's just frustrating and annoying. I don't honestly wish her ill. I just don't like seeing people being rewarded for bad behavior and that's what's happening. And it's not just Kate. It's lots of people in the entertainment industry. Maybe it's always been that way. Maybe I was just oblivious to it as a kid. But back in my day (and I'm only in my 40's) most people on tv or movies or on the radio had talent.
And now we have people like the Kardashians, Kendra Wilkinson, the Real Housewives Casts, Paris Hilton, the Teen Moms, and of course the Jersey Shore cast.
What does it say about our society that these are our role models nowadays? It can get really depressing if you spend too much time thinking about it.
Maybe it's the same concept as "anyone can grow up to be President". No thought about critical thinking, ability to communicate, you know the routine. If X person can do it, so can I - or at least my kids. So even if I am the target of derision, I will push on, living the dream that I haven't even thought through yet. Nope, don't care. THey've tried this song before. Such and such did this or said this or left their thumbprint over there! I could care less. I only ask people to follow the rules here, I can't police the entire internet or worry what you do elsewhere--nor is it really my business.
One of the articles posted earlier today had a really great point that I haven't seen discussed. It was explaining how typically when you make test pilots it's because you are an unknown and you have to do that so people can get a sense of who you are on screen so they can decide whether to buy. But with Kate a test pilot is rather gratuitous. People DO know who she is and a test pilot isn't necessarily really needed or would do much to help your standing. You could pitch your idea just as easily for a lot less money and effort. If they don't like you a pilot isn't going to change their minds.
If this is how it went down it's just more recklessness with the children's money. However I thought there was a celebrity blog elsewhere reporting this was actually a short series featuring a variety of celebs.
My first reaction about the Elmo story was thank goodness Elmo has been exonerated.
Then I did a pause and remembered how sometimes children will recant child abuse after reporting it because they got scared by what a firestorm it set off. People think if a child is recanting great, the case will go away. The vast majority of the time, that's just not the case.
It made me question why this guy one day would disclose unspeakable abuse, then the next day, after the entire country is talking about it and horrified and he sees how he is, before his very eyes, ruining someone's life, suddenly recant....was the kitchen too hot?
Do I believe his recantation? I don't know, I've seen this song and dance before.
This really all ties in to the Gosselin saga. It is one thing to disclose some bad deeds that are going on over there. But the real effort and bravery comes when you have to stick by what you said and stick it out through the shitstorm. Many people haven't been able to do that and after disclosing bad things have quickly faded away.
Bear in mind that the victim, if he truly is one, DID speak out and got national press. I think that's pretty damn brave. The news spread like wildfire and because of that first brave announcement, many will never look at Clash the same way again. I think he got his message across. It's a little harsh to assume a sexual abuse victim isn't brave when he did initally speak out. that's just my opinion, however.
I know for myself how incredibly shaming and humiliating it is to face my family and friends after my experience. I know I did nothing wrong yet the shame that it even happened, and I was no minor in age, was and is extremely overwhelming at times.
Why is it that all of Kate's fans have the worst grammar and spelling?
++++++++++++++++
It's a requirement for the Sheeple Club. They take a test. If they incorrectly spell/use "your," "loose," and "their," and begin their tweets with "me and my mom are big fans," and "I seen you on television," they are guaranteed acceptance into the group.
You might want to re-read this blog before throwing stones, as some of your regulars are not exactly model students in the grammar and spelling department. I won't name names, as that would be mean.
Regarding TV pilot shows - just read an interview with John Goodman in New York Magazine. He said that recently he and Roseanne had filmed a pilot for a potential new sitcom together. He said that the show wasn't picked up but they had a fun time in the filming.
So if established mega talents just as Goodman and Roseanne have to film a pilot, it would figure that KG would need a pilot to sell a show as well. After all, a network needs to see how well the premise and the working parts fit together.
Same here. I hope
it turns out the guy was just looking for a buck or fame something, idk.
I've been around all this as long as anybody and I must admit,I never imagined things would crash and burn this badly.
Kate's desperation is just pathetic. Why can't she find a way to make a dime without filming the kids. I do think it was rather genius for her to find a concept that allowed to be away from the kids for a week. We all know she doesn't want to be with them anyway. At least Kendra and a camera crew might be better babysitters than the teens she usually selects.
Formerly Duped said...
Do we know about her babysitters other than Ashley? I think a camera crew and Kendra would not be better! The kids know or will, who Kendra is and what she does. I think this might have gotten lost in the pack before. I have some very interesting twitter metrics.
According to this report Kate really only reaches about 3700 active accounts. This is out of nearly 122000 followers! I believe the majority of these are non-fans and other commercial entities (pr people, brand names ie coffeemate and other people with business associations).
This is the report I generated for a baseline:
http://tweetreach.com/reports/5677765?v=2
This is a report that auto-refreshes with up to the minute data:
http://tweetreach.com/reach?q=kateplusmy8&v=2
If anyone wants me to post a comparison to any other "celebrity" let me know and I will do it.
I do see that KG is grifting (or at least attempting to) with coffeemate and keurig again.
It's a little harsh to assume a sexual abuse victim isn't brave when he did initally speak out. that's just my opinion, however.
In that sense I was referring to the Gosselins, the Jodi's and Kevin's and Robert's. Not sexual abuse victims whatsoever. I would never blame a sexual abuse victim for being overwhelmed and recanting.
semper avarus eget 129 -- Interesting. I doubt many networks these days would take a flier on a show with no pilot, even from established stars. Even when a pilot is done and a show is picked up, we see many changes -- cast members dropped, roles recast, a change in the concept of the show even. Things are getting more and more competitive and the funding is tighter. If something doesn't work most networks just pull the plug instead of tweaking the show. This season, many series didn't even get a full season order, just a half, and then the show order was expanded if the audience numbers were good. Somehow, I can't see any show featuring KK generating the kind of buzz to last more than one or two episodes. People might tune in initially to see the train wreck, but I doubt the numbers would hold. Same as with Kate + 8. Her numbers went steadily downhill because she's a one note "celebrity" -- "I have 8, count 'em, 8 kids". BTW -- I love your "handle", and it's very apt. KK is greedy and she always wants -- more fame, more attention, more money, more adulation. She's an unfillable pit.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
It's been ages since Roseanne and Tom have been together or done sitcoms. I can see that networks would be interested in seeing a pilot to assess if the chemistry is still there, if they still have it, if they're still funny.
Kate however was just on TV a little more than a year ago. There is nothing unknown about her, no X factor. A pilot for her won't make a shred of difference in whether she is picked up, pilot or not no means no, unless she can somehow make it spectacular and unique, which we know she can't. My point is because a pilot for her won't make a difference, IF she spent a dime of the children's money on it, it was a waste of money.
I do agree that shows are pulled very fast these days, the attention span has gotten so short. They don't bother to move it around on the schedule or retool it, they're done. It's a shame because off the top of my head I can name several shows that weren't given a fair crack at it or were cancelled too soon despite excellent writing and production. Everwood for example is a series that I strongly feel should have been given at least two or three more seasons. It was so well done and had a loyal following. But even that was gone in four seasons and that's long these days.
Full House is an example of a series that never would have made it today. They let that show chug along for years before it really picked up. Never would have happened today. And it would have been a real shame to see it cut off so soon, because that was a good family show.
Absolutely nothing. It's completely different than a scripted comedy from actors who were last together 15 years ago, or even a reality show where we have never met the characters before, like the Jersey Shore initial pilot. There is NOTHING execs don't know about Kate that she couldn't put together in a pitch with a few poster boards she got at Target for 3.99 a piece.
I think she can go ahead and make useless pilots up the wazoo for all I care, but she better not dare spend the children's money doing it, or sacrifice money that should be spent on them for gymnastics or movies to do it. Perhaps I'll have to eat my words, but if I were a betting man, I would bet this Tramp Swap thing will never see the light of day.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...
I disagree. The vast majority of the time most of the people here communicate very well and have few errors in their post. A typo is not an grammatical error, it's a typo. With a blog that has 962 posts of course you can spot a few errors, but if you can't show me that 95% of the 962 posts on this thread have some sort of error. They simply don't. It's the exact opposite for the drivebys here. The vast majority of them seem to struggle with basic communication. Which leads me to believe they are either all the same one or two people, or are very young, or just as a group are all struggling. That said I really don't care one way or the other, except when the errors are so bad I can't understand what they're trying to say. Kind of defeats their purpose.
Admin, does this change your opinion that we should lay off the Chapter recaps for awhile? Personally, I could take them or leave them even though I missed out on downloading the book.
I think already having my suspicions about her horrendous parenting validated is enough. I don't really need to know just how awful she was.
I'm appalled, though hardly surprised, that she would leave her kids for a week with a stranger just to film them (not too mention fund herself) for a pilot for another reality show.
She really is clueless about what it means to be a real, loving, hands-on, nurturing, emotionally and physically available parent.
What a loser.
Oh, and I'm not the slightest bit concerned that the FBI (or CSIS for that matter) is the least bit interested in the fact that I think, and voice said opinion, that Kate is a sad excuse for a human being. That had to be the funniest troll comment of the year.
