Much like last year when Kate made some "worst of" lists, on one of them even being compared to Gadhafi, she's popping up again on 2012 lists.
Time Magazine put her in their "bad year" category opposite Kate Middleton in the good year column, blasting Kate for being fired from Coupon Cabin. Ha.
Mostly I lurk. A handful of times I have posted and never got a response. I like to think that it was because what I had to say was so succinct and spot-on accurate that anyone reading it just nodded, said to themselves 'too right' and moved on. This is how I enjoy the blog and I assume others do too. If I disagree with something someone else has generally jumped in and the whole topic has been hashed out before I get to the bottom of the page. My input would be redundant and not nearly as hilarious as many of yours. However, I do not feel like an outsider at all even though no one here 'knows' me the way the regulars are known. Lurkers are occasionally mentioned kindly in posts. Thank you for that. Maybe some people need the payoff of from throwing a hissy fit. It's tiresome, I know, but I feel it's all part of this community, too.
I had a cat that loved scratching paper. She once destroyed my checkbook which I accidently left out on my dresser. From that day forward, when she wanted me to get up and feed her, she would search for some paper to attack, knowing the noise would get me right up out of bed fearing she was destroying something important.
I also had a cat that swallowed a shoelace. I was washing my mom's sneakers, and I took the shoelaces and threw both sneakers and shoelaces in the wash. After they were washed and dried, I put the sneakers and shoelaces on my mom's dresser, but didn't bother to put the laces in the sneakers-just laid them on the sneakers.
When my mom asked why there was only one shoe lace, we surmised what happened and watched that cat like a hawk, waiting to see if she would show any symptoms or distress. The cat was fine, and the next day, I actually found the missing shoe lace in her litter box. Apparently, it just passed through her--
Mel, I'm so sorry about your son. Please don't blame yourself, sweetie, you didn't know. I understand what you and others have said I appreciate all of the input.
I am hopeful because my daughter called her dad yesterday and they talked for awhile. He said it was a good conversation and when he asked her if they would still be coming here for the family get together in February, she didn't say no. She said she didn't know and we'll see. We will find a way to work this out for the good of all concerned, especially our grandsons.
To all of you getting snow, I'm so jealous! I love snow and the more we get, the happier I am. I'm still waiting for a big snowfall for the Chicago area, but it hasn't happened yet.
For those of us who were discussing the hambone soup yesterday, I made it today and it was delicious. I delivered to my friend and her family today. I hope they enjoy it. It's a very easy recipe.
Now to chime in about this blog. I love coming here for all the comments and the good conversations. I've never felt that there was a clique here and I've always thought people here go out of their way to welcome new posters. It's a big community, for sure, but there is a closeness that develops after awhile. Thanks, Admin, for all you do here. Hogs to all of you!
Jane said... 184 California Suzy - loved your post! Very inspiring, I've been thinking of doing something similar but lacked the motivation. Thanks for the nudge! And your comments about Kate ring true.
Off-topic - has anyone had a Mrs. Prindable's apple? I was given one for Xmas and, on this snowy day, I'm slowly devouring it. Devour is the appropriate word LOL. I recommend this if you need a gift (they come beautifully wrapped) or just want to indulge:
I ordered some two (2) years ago and also devoured them...if I remember correctly, there was one with almonds which I think was my favorite. Got an assortment--gave away a couple of them and wished I hadn't!
Cali Suzy....179: Hi! Loved your post! Just wanted to tell you that your birthday card idea is AWESOME!! Thanks for sharing it. I'm going to implement your idea for sure!
Improbable.....180: Our feline princess LOVES licking plastic bags! Funny how she gets this orgasmic look on her face as she slurps, schlops away. Priceless! Unless, we've left a bag of something in or anywhere near our bedroom and she decides to go at it in the middle of the night. Grrrrr! We call her our Bag Licker!!! : /
Get your dirty minds out of the gutter, ladies!! LOL!!
njay -- I've always considered you one of the regulars, too, and I know I've responded to some of your posts. I think part of the problem is that you don't chime in very often. Try to post more and you'll get more responses. I can't speak for anyone else here, but when I don't respond to a post, it's for a specific reason. It's a topic I'm not much interested in, it's a topic I don't know anything about, other posters have said what I think and much better than I could express it, or -- and this is the most common -- I've been gone most of the day and the blog has moved on to other topics by the time I have the chance to read the posts. If I think I have something relevant to say on the subject, I may chime in anyway, but usually, I just let it go.
Please, please, please post the recipe for the ham/potato/corn chowder! It sounds so good. I love corn chowders, and it's so hard to find good ones. Sometimes they come out tasting like wallpaper paste. I normally like Campbells Chunky soups, but their chicken corn chowder was one of the most disgusting things I've ever tasted. I'd also love the recipe for the bean/dumpling soup. That sounds really different and interesting. I love soups, but my old standby is vegetable beef barley soup that I learned to make from my mother, who learned from her mother, who probably learned from her mother. It's so good on a cold, snowy day.
Cat story - several Xmas ago had lots of plastic silver tinsel on tree - cat (Atocha) loved it and ate it and walked around for a few days with lovely silver tinsel out her butt - no hurt - just pulled out easily but so funny
Re cats licking plastic -- That is very common. There's apparently something in the plastic that tastes good to them. Some also like to lick photographs, although now that everyone is going digital, that doesn't happen as much any more. Be careful, though, because if kitty also chews the plastic, it can cause a nasty, and very expensive intestinal obstruction. If your kitty eats string or tinsel or anything stringy or ropelike and it's hanging out the rear, be VERY CAREFUL if you pull on it. If you feel any resistance at all, stop immediately and get kitty to the vet. Stuff like that can get entangled in the intestine and pulling on it can cause all kinds of serious problems, including perforations, obstructions and prolapse. A doctor I used to work with had a kitten swallow a small piece of yarn and it wound up with 7 intestinal perforations. Three operations, several weeks in kitty intensive care, and several thousand dollars later, she had a healthy kitty again, but it was touch and go for a week or so.
Waving hi! Yeah, what JudyK said.... start posting.
:-) :-)
On another note, I too can post and have absolutely NO ONE respond to my beautiful, articulate missives. LOL
I suspect that some folks say 'ah, geez, another hot wind bag post from perm', scrolling, scrolling.... other times like Pym said, maybe my post was so spot-on that folks are nodding their heads in agreement... or it could be that my words just didn't resonate with anyone. Maybe they don't agree and decide not to respond out of desire to keep things friendly.
Truly, doesn't bother me if no one responds back to me personally. Those kinds of posts are fun to get, but someone mentioned a while back that this blog is like a party with all of us circulating with our rumspringas and purple clogs, chatting, listening, nodding, sipping... and even some of us sitting on the sidelines for a bit just people watching and being glad to quietly enjoy the ambiance. A group is sure to be out on Dwindle's veranda murmuring what a nice time they are having.... and perhaps (lovingly) commenting on who's stuck to the counter...
I wonder about the 'new' posters who come in with an attitude immediately. Surely they cannot expect to welcomed with open arms and given hogs for being rude and antagonistic? I figure they are the same people who, in real life, have problems getting along. Real life and cyber life, both have the same requirements for getting along.
It'a a head-scratcher, all right....
PYM, so keep on posting girl - you're welcome here anytime. Your same sounds so familiar... is there a Pym's candy or soda or something. Pym or Pim is ringing a bell in the back of my grey-haired head....
Cat story - several Xmas ago had lots of plastic silver tinsel on tree - cat (Atocha) loved it and ate it and walked around for a few days with lovely silver tinsel out her butt - no hurt - just pulled out easily but so funny ===== lol! They are like Kate, they like shiney things. I had a cat who decorated her litter box with it, too so I had to quit putting it on the tree. (I mean the tinsel, not the glittering kitty turds)
Didn't know I even liked cats that much until two years ago when I took in two 3-month old black feral brothers. (Found homes for the rest of the litter and got the mother spayed...I still feed her outdoors, along with a son of hers I couldn't catch from another litter--they live in my yard--and both have beds with blankets on the porch. Took me two years to catch the mom.)
I have two dogs, as well, and always considered myself strictly a dog person, but I am IN LOVE with my black kitty brothers...OMG, they are precious to me, and they are never allowed outside. I call them my gay kitty brothers because they adore each other and sleep with their "arms" wrapped around each other. If something were to happen to me, they would have to be adopted together.
I love this blog! Just today for instance, I loved the comment about being organized. That was spot on. I also laughed at the cat stories, we are dog people but your stories are so funny. I got a kick out of hearing from another Texan. We live to the east of you but your town is my favorite in all of TX, but the area that DMasy, at least I think it was DMasy is moving to is way cool, such a great fun place to go on vacation.
For those of you feeling a little neglected, don't worry about it. This blog has gotten so big and with so many comments its hard sometimes to feel in the loop. I've had lots of comments go with no response and then I've had others that got lots of responses. Just hang in there and keep commenting on whatever floats your boat.
LMG, I'm so glad your husband and daughter had a good talk. It's a beginning and that's what counts. I wish you all the best.
Happy New Year to everyone here. Oh, by the way, whoever it was that posted their dinner plans for New Years Day, count me in. I'll be there with bells on!!!
Darn, I forgot to mention the iPad issues. Can they just drive you nuts at times? I love mine and use it most of the time but then here comes Google to screw things up and now I can't post anything on any blog on the iPad. I have no idea why, it just has a double image on the comment box and won't let me type at all. So, I have to pull out my laptop which sits right beside my chair and that's how I comment. I just don't get why they have to change things when it was working so good. One other change was there is one blog that I can't even see comments at on the iPad. I thought maybe they had gone private but got on my laptop and there it was, comments and all. Sheesh.
Kate and Gladys Kravitz are both MIA. Could it be that the two of them are finally hand in hand, walking off into the sunset together (as Milo had once dreamed would happen)?
What was the song that admin thought was perfect for the two of them? It wasn't "Wind Beneath My Wings." Was it "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face?" Nope. That doesn't sound right. What was it?
It bothers the heck out of me when I can't remember something, which is quite often!
Why do birds suddenly appear Every time you are near? Just like me, they long to be Close to you
Why do stars fall down from the sky Every time you walk by? Just like me, they long to be Close to you
On the day that you were born the angels got together And decided to create a dream come true So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair Of golden starlight in your eyes of blue
That is why all the girls in town (Girls in town) Follow you (Follow you) All around (All around) Just like me, they long to be Close to you
On the day that you were born the angels got together And decided to create a dream come true So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair Of golden starlight in your eyes of blue
That is why all the girls in town (Girls in town) Follow you (Follow you) All around (All around) Just like me, they long to be Close to you Just like me, they long to be Close to you
(Why? Close to you) (Why? Close to you) (Haa, close to you) (Why? Close to you)
Thank you, She's come undone. My daughter has always been "daddy's little girl", (I was the disciplinarian!). This had to be hard for her as it was for us. I'm confident that it will all work out.
(I mean the tinsel, not the glittering kitty turds) +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Can I be your friend? I'm hopelessly in love with your sense of humor!!!!!!!
Will you sit by me on Dwindle's veranda? I'll try to not act like a stalker... I'll get your rumspringas for you, I'll polish your purple clogs, I'll for sure laugh at all your jokes. In fact, I'm at risk of peeing my pants laughing so hard at them.... it's an old lady thing, apologies....
Speaking of peeing pants, I have a book to recommend for all the cat lovers. We got it for our son/DIL for Xmas - they have two Maine Coons (my grandcats)
I COULD PEE ON THAT - sorry I don't know the author; it's a small book of hilarious poems by cats. Cat lovers will understand it perfectly!
Also, another one called something like: HOW TO TELL IF YOUR CAT IS PLOTTING TO KILL YOU. Again, don't know author, but it's hilarious.
When you read posts from the bottom of the page first (as I do), and the first post you read is Admin posting the words to "Close to You", my first thought was 1) she started drinking wayyyyy too early this morning.... and 2) WTF is going on around here!
lol at the shiny sight from your cat's rear! My dogs love to eat kleenex and toilet paper. I often pick up pure white 'piles' from the backyard. Um, good fiber? Sorry, not as picturesque, but funny to see.
I remember you from way back, I think. Can't think of how long I've been here... maybe 2 years or more? There are so many posters who used to post and now lurk, stopping in from time to time.
We float in, we float out.
When the Ewe Cabal gets too bad, I take a break, depending on my tolerance for shit-stirring.
But I definitely recognize your name and am glad to see you posting again!
Pimm's gin...... nah, that's not it. I don't drink gin. Got sicker that a sickie on the wrong side of the tracks in Sickville back in college. Gin gives me the shivers even just thinking about it now. Ugh
Is there a Pimm's Root Beer? Hmm, have to google that. If I recall, it makes me burp with the first glug. Very carbonated, but oh so tasty....
Burping, yes, I'm a lovely guest at the table. ha ha
I read here often, not all the comments. I post once in a while and am usually without responses. But once when I needed lifting up, boy did I get it, and I'll never forget your kindness. I tend to be on here when others are not so much. I'm a west coaster with extremely late hours when I usually browse around. I'm glad you have all enjoyed the holidays and no one has reported tragic news.
I've gotten those ads, too, along with the Christian Mingle. Maybe those with arrest records are looking to turn their lives around with a religious epiphany.

lol! Back in college we drank Stingers. To this day I can't look at white creme de menthe.
If anyone is interested in a good PA Dutch recipe for corn chowder, give a yell, and I'll be glad to post. I just made split pea with ham (Christmas leftover) in the crockpot and it is amazingly good. No recipe...I just dumped.
We're stuck inside, it's still snowing, roads are a mess, and I'm watching Paranormal State. Bored out of my mind!
A friend sent me an email some time ago. I don't remember the exact wording, but this is the gist of it.
Phone conversation: At Home Business owner: Hello, Acme Electronics? I have a problem with my printer. Acme: What's going on? AHBO: The paper keeps coming out all bunched up, and sometimes it's shredded. But strangely, never when I'm sitting there with it, only when I leave the room. I come back and the paper is unusable. Acme: OK, try (solutions a,b,c,d) and see if any of those help. Call back if you're still having trouble. BO: Ok, thanks.
Next day, the phone call was repeated. And the next day. No suggested solutions worked. He wondered what to do. He needed a working printer!
The next night, the AHBO was printing off some store records while he took out the trash. His daughter ran out the back door and told him to come quickly! Come NOW!
Business Owner ran in to the office, and there it was. His cat was standing at the printer, attacking each piece of paper as it came out of the machine, ripping some, crumpling others.
AHBO: Um, Acme Electronics? I think we've isolated the problem and his name is Buster.
I had a female cat who would do that, too. She was also convinced her mission in life was to save the world from all pens and pencils lying on tabletops. They had to be flung across the room with great glee and look of "so, whatcha gonna do about it, Mom?"
fidosmommy -- I had a cat who would steal every pen in the house and play pen hockey with them in the kitchen. Last time I moved the refrigerator, there was a whole herd of pens underneath it. He never touched the pencils, just pens. One time he bit down too hard on the pen and I had a red kitty with blue ink stains on face and paws. I teased him about being a patriotic kitty, because he had a white undercoat, so he was red, white and blue. Sadly, he crossed The Bridge a few years ago, bit I still occasionally find a pen in an unlikely place, and consider that a visit from him. He also was fascinated by the creche I put up on my entertainment center every Christmas. One year, it came time to pack it up, and Baby Jesus was MIA. I finally found Him, in May, when a neighbor helped me move my very heavy hidabed couch. He was under the furthest corner.
My cat is a model of good cat behaviour at age 18, but my dog Zoe used to eat duvet covers. Not pillowcases, not slipcovers, only duvet covers. We would go out and when we got home the corners were all chewed off our duvet. I finally had to go back to blankets.
New Years' resolutions: I make the same one every year, which is that I vow to not impede the flow of the Mississipppi River for 365 days. So far I have kept it for 26 years.
Resolutions put too many expectations out there for me to cope with, and I would rather just try to do a little bit better day by day. This may not get it for everyone, but it works for me.
LoveMyGrandsons - hope this cheers you up - email me if you want more pics - but it is STILL snowing..... (BarBQ last week - so this is just from Friday am.)
Reader lady: would love to share my chowder recipe. One of the reasons why chowders can taste bad is if raw potato is used. They can make it taste pasty. I use canned whole white potatoes and cut them into chunks. It cuts the cooking time and it is never pasty
Single recipe...I usually double it.
In a large saucepan: 2 cups water 2 cans whole white potatoes chopped into chunks 1/2 cup carrots 1/2 cups celery 1/4 chopped onion 1 tsp salt 1/4 tsp pepper and garlic powder 1/2 bag frozen sweet corn
Combine all ingredients and cook on med high for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile in another saucepan:
1/4 cup butter 1/4 cup flour 2 cups milk 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese 1 cup cooked cubed ham
To make cheese sauce: start by melting the butter and add flour and stir til smooth. Add milk and cook til thick and bubbly. Add cheese and ham and stir til smooth. Add to vegetable pot.
Franky glad you got the altitude back and lost the snow pants and have the right boots on - mine are green rubber to the knees and still snow overcomes
Hi Njay, I also remember you from way back. I know you have been reading and sometimes commenting for what seems like too many years. I think I am something like you, I read regularly and very occasionally post.
Also another thanks to Readerlady. I know you were responding to someone else but last night I was busy taking note of more authors' names.
If I may I would like to share some of what was in our church bulletin on Christmas Eve:
"My gift to you is joy... Joy and peace in your families as you gather around the table and welcome newcomers. Joy and peace when you meet people with sincerity and forgiveness. Joy and peace that will weave memorable and bonding patterns in your festivities... Joy that is unexpected, joy that is anticipated, and joy that is shared. Joy and peace that appear gradually, and leave a longing for eternity in our hearts."
Privacy note - I have a Gmail account that I only use on this blog - nothing of my personal or business associated - some may want to try this - I also have one visa card from a totally different bank that I use online and check it regularly - seems to work
Forget it, Admin and Lilly. I can be email challenged, and it was asking me for my incoming and outgoing server and I have no frickin' idea! Even the hubs didn't know. Oh, well, Lilly; I'll just have to keep drooling over your avatar. Lol!
Oh...so, so many LOL posts here today! : ) Can't remember all but.....
How to know if you're cat is plotting to kill you. Bahahahahahaha!!!! Now THAT is a book we need in this house. I'm thinking something may be up with my kitty. : /
And lest I not forget "follow me". " all around". Lalalala! Tee Hee! That's quite a song and NOW I can't get it out of my head. ; (
As for posting, people feeling left out, etc, etc. I just went through that on this blog a few months ago but, if I recall correctly, everyone here was VERY nice to me when I, mistakenly thought, I was being ignored. I guess the big difference in how my 'complaint/whining' was that I did not attack anybody. Wasn't rude, condescending, stomping my feet, etc. I simply asked. Then I was given lots of hints, advice and explanations about this fast moving blog and it's really not possible to respond to everybody. Can you imagine?? I wish I could answer everybody and sometimes a post is so spot-on that I feel I HAVE to give props to whoever wrote it. Sometimes I feel bad doing that though because there are always tons of posts I'd like to comment on but I need to sleep at night and it would be a 24/7 job just to answer everybody.
Oh ya....one more thing: you can always try a typo and become the most famous, awesome poster here like MEEEE ( just joking ) when something like 'HOGS' catches on. LOL!! Or bed shits!!! : )
Lilly said... 52 ''Privacy note - I have a Gmail account that I only use on this blog - nothing of my personal or business associated - some may want to try this - I also have one visa card from a totally different bank that I use online and check it regularly - seems to work'' ~~~~~~~~~ I do the same thing, Lilly. My gmail account for this blog, and the posting name I use here is ONLY for this blog. I've also got a visa card that I use only for online, and have never had a bit of problem with it.
If the black cats (mentioned above) have copper eyes they may be of the Bombay/Burmese strain (removed) and if so they are like dogs in many ways. I had one that was gray as a kitten and turned into this beautiful sleek black cat with copper eyes. He was dog like in that he would drop what he was doing and come when I called, and he would play fetch. I was stunned when I started playing with him and throwing the ball and he immediately brought it back to me dropping it at my feet. He loved to play fetch and would sometimes initiate it by dropping his toy at my feet. He went to the door to go out and seldom used the litter box. He would respond to the command No-No. He would greet us at the door, joyful upon our return or at the car if he was outside. My son's little half sister used to stay with us a lot and she said one day, you really love that cat, I can tell.
I am a softie for cats and dogs and birds. I watch all the cute kitty and puppy shows on Animal Planet.
That sounds wonderful, Wowser. I'm going to try yours. Thanks. I heard Readerlady's yell. Here's a PA Dutch version:
Makes six servings. I double the recipe. I also add two sliced hard-boiled eggs to this, as well as parsley, even though it isn't included in the original recipe.
Corn Chowder
2 slices bacon 1/4 cup chopped onion 2 medium potatoes, cubed 2 cups corn 1/2 cup chopped celery 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. pepper 2 cups chicken broth 2 tbsp. flour 2 cups milk
In three-quart saucepan, fry bacon until crisp. Remove and drain, reserving drippings. Crumble bacon and set aside.
Cook onions in bacon drippings until soft, but not brown. Add potatoes, corn, celery, salt, pepper, and 1 1/2 cups chicken broth. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer 15-20 minutes.
Blend flour and remaining chicken broth. Add to vegetable mixture. Cook and stir until slightly thickened and bubbly. Reduce heat.
Add milk. Heat thoroughly but do not boil. Top with crumbled bacon. This is a simple corn chowder if you want one without ham. For those who like ham, this ham and cabbage soup is one of our favorites:
Ham and Cabbage Soup
2 Tbsp. butter 1/4 cup minced onion 1/4 cup chopped celery 1/4 cup flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. pepper 3 cups water 2 cups chopped or shredded cabbage 2 cups ham, cooked and diced 3/4 cup sour cream
Melt butter, then saute onion and celery until tender. Add flour, salt and pepper, blending until smooth. Add water and cook until mixture comes to a boil, stirring constantly. Add cabbage. Cover and simmer until cabbage is tender, about 10 minutes. Stir in ham and cook until heated through. Blend in sour cream. Heat, but do not boil.
Oh ya....one more thing: you can always try a typo and become the most famous, awesome poster here like MEEEE ( just joking ) when something like 'HOGS' catches on. LOL!! Or bed shits!!! : )

This reminds me of Mrs. Malaprop. Anyone heard from her?
From our discussion of books and authors a few weeks ago, I want to send a huge thank you to whoever mentioned We Need to Talk About Kevin. I actually found it at my library and am reading it and it is different and yet I can't put it down. Thanks for suggesting this book.
I also found two new sites for free or almost free Kindle Books. One is called Book Bud. It is great and each day you get an update on your e-mail about the new ones for the day. You just click on it and it takes you automatically to Amazon where you order it. Great prices that usually don't last long, but a great selection.
The other site I found just the other day for mysteries is stopyourekillingme.com. Lots of interesting stuff there.
awww! thanks for being my Christmas buddy that day! It is sweet of you to ask about the kiddo! She is SO sweet, in fact,that she shared her head-cold-from-hell with all.of.us. LOL
California Suzy - loved your post! Very inspiring, I've been thinking of doing something similar but lacked the motivation. Thanks for the nudge! And your comments about Kate ring true.

Heavenly!!
I think I've seen them at Bjs.
What a great gift idea, and the price is right too. Thanks for the http address :o)
Judy K, Dmasy, Permanent Name and LMG thank you for your kind words. I had to chuckle, though, as the point of my post was that acknowledgement was not necessary. That not withstanding, I wave wildly to you, too. I was first taken by the name Pym from the writer Barbara Pym. I just liked the look and sound of it. Phoneticly it is an anagram of imp, and imp was the perfect description of my last very black cat. So Pym he became. Now he has gone but I keep the name, but in lower case.
I would like to expand on the last bit of my post upthread (2). As recipes are a major topic today I would like to make the analogy that even trolls, drive-bys or even newbies who don't know their way around are all ingredients in the stew that is this blog. Unless the sniping gets really over the top, I can't really get all that worked up about them. Just as our favourite dishes (oops, I just gave myself away as another Canadian, didn't I) combine sweet, salty, and sour flavours (did it again)so do all -- and I do mean all -- the comments here add up to the blog it is. Some of the best discussions have been initiated by the most unlikely (read rude)posters. My opinion only, of course.
Wowser and Parent -- Thanks for the recipes. They both sound delicious. I'll try them both. That ham and cabbage soup sounds good, too, Parent.
We got about 3 more inches of snow last night and this morning, on top of the stuff we already had on the ground. More digging out needed. At least the wind isn't blowing this time, so there's minimal drifting. LMG -- I'd gladly ship this all to you, if I could figure out a way to do it without it melting.
Admin -- Thanks a lot for the ear worm. Now I can't get "Close To You" out of my head. It's my least favorite Carpenter's song, too.
Santa brought me several DVD sets for Christmas -- Seasons 3 & 4 of "The Mentalist" and Seasons 1 & 2 of "Rizzoli and Isles" , so I've been watching some of them this afternoon. I didn't get to see all the episodes when they aired, so it's nice to catch up.
Lilly, I got a pre-paid credit card that I use exclusively for online purchases. The one I have is a Visa, loading charge is only $2, and the monthly service charge is less than the interest would be on a credit card. It's also a good way to control my spending, because I put a certain amount on it and when it's gone, that's it. I tend to get a bit carried away on book sales, LOL.

A very happy new year to all.

Such a beautiful gift.
Thank you for sharing it with us, SwingsandRoundabouts :o)
Parent, that ham and cabbage soup sounds delicious! Two of my favorites so I am definitely going to make it soon.
-----------------
Just make sure you don't overcook it, or it will turn to mush. We like the cabbage chopped, not shredded and not too fine...gives it more "bulk!"
We still have Christmas ham left over, so I think I'll do the ham and cabbage soup tomorrow. This is perfect soup weather. Nothing like a big bowl of soup served with cornbread or crusty rolls to beat the chill. I hate snow.
Improbable, Fuzzy Britches is a crumpled up paper player,easy to shop for. She got into a roll of TP once and was all tangled up...The Mummy Returned. What a hoot watching her run through the house.
Dmasy, the Gruene/New Braunfels area is a nice place to be. I used to go to The Tavern in the Gruene quite abit. Hopefully your son will get away from Houston soon. I never much cared for that place, I think I am allergic to concrete.
So, kk is missing in action? Perhaps she is on a shopping binge with her grift cards. Such a pathetic person.
Anyways, I can never get a clear visual of her giving her kids a true, Loving, heartfelt hug..though, I can see her shaking them down for loose change.

Finished "Kevin" last night. Very shocking ending- won't give spoilers-but amazingly chilling. Left with an uneasy feeling about the whole nature vs nurture debate. Also the futility in solving this increasingly common problem among young people.So many variables. Would love to discuss this book and the issue sometime, hint, Admin! Anyone seen the movie- I hadn't known it was made into a film.
Snow 8-10 inches expected here in the Northeast in case anyone's interested lol

Fun image, lol. How could you possibly get angry when they're so darn cute?
Wondering...Am I misremembering things, or was there actually a K plus 8 episode involving toilet paper? Not the CC debacle, but something to do with TP-mummified kids?
Years ago I went to a Polish restaurant in Passaic, NJ and had the most delicious sauerkraut soup. Clear broth, shredded cabbage/sauerkraut. Can anyone help me recreate it?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes, that TP game occurred the day "Shoka" was returned. Kate had made the basement a Halloween fun center and needed time I guess to load Shoka into the garage to surprise the kids. The activity was to waste- um- wrap one another like a mummy with Charmin or Target brand TP, not QN lol. The kids did not seem that into it...then they just ripped it off in 2 seconds. Some ecology enthusiast.
I think you mean the TLC crew,not Kate, made the basement into a Halloween fun center. It was all for an episode. The one and only time those kids were permitted to have some Halloween fun.
Ty LMG for the welcome. I am a new poster here yet a longtime reader. And I can say to any reader who may be holding back that first post, jump on in, the water is fine!
LMG, I sure hope things work out for your family, I have you in my thoughts. My first grandchild is due in May. I am so excited!
Improbable....Oh my, I remember that episode, does this mean Fuzzy Britches owes her royalties? I hate to see a cat drop out of kitty college in order to work to payoff a debt. She could be a Extreme cat napper. I wonder if TLC needs a new idea?
I best be thinking about dinner....and more football!
Rhymes, the only sauer kraut soup that I know of from my grandma started with the hambone. She boiled it for a couple of hours, took out the bone to cool, then added onions and sauer kraut, and I think chopped potatoes. However I don't know the spices that she used. She shredded the ham left on the bone and added that to the soup. I'm sure I have forgotten some of the ingredients, but this is the best I can remember. By the way, my grandma was 100% Polish so the cooking she did she learned from her mother. Hope this helps.
lol, yes, that's a given, sadly. That was also the episode where Kate was 'shopping' at the party store for Halloween items ( on TLC's tab) and threw everything she saw without looking at price-tags higgledy-piggledy(sp?) into a shopping trolley, not a care in the world. Geez, the time I take comparing prices and brands to get the best deals...where were Kate's coupons?
To njay, I've been around the blog from the beginning, but don't post very often. I seem to remember you as a regular as well. Have always enjoyed your posts. Keep posting! :) I really don't think the blog is cliquish, just seems like there are some who post more often than others.
To Jane, My mother buys Mrs. Prindables apples every Christmas from QVC. YUM!
To Auntie Ann, For the life of me, I can't understand why someone would call you rude. I find you witty, sarcastic,(which I love) and very intelligent. You make me laugh quite often!
To LMG, I adore you and your stories about your lovely grandsons. You're a woman with a huge heart. <3 I'm sorry to hear of your latest difficulty, but I think the ladies here have given you some sound advice, and I know that your situation will be resolved. Stay strong!
BTW, has anyone heard from Robert Hoffman? I hope he hasn't been silenced...
Yes, that TP game occurred the day "Shoka" was returned. Kate had made the basement a Halloween fun center and needed time I guess to load Shoka into the garage to surprise the kids. *****************8
Speaking of darling Shoka, I've always found it funny that Kate's fans (who go on and on about how lucky and spoiled Shoka is) seem to have conveniently forgotten how unspeakably nasty Kate was to both Shoka and Nala in that J&K Plus 8 episode where they bring the puppies home.
Shoving their muzzles into their food, screaming at them for having accidents (what exactly did she expect from two untrained puppies???), sticking her nose up at the idea of having dogs, saying "you're not welcome" when the kids thanked her at the end. Heartless and cruel.
And now she tries to pass herself off as a true dog lover? I know people can change their minds, but I'm just not buying it.
Pity Party said... 57 If the black cats (mentioned above) have copper eyes they may be of the Bombay/Burmese strain (removed) and if so they are like dogs in many ways. I had one that was gray as a kitten and turned into this beautiful sleek black cat with copper eyes. He was dog like in that he would drop what he was doing and come when I called, and he would play fetch. I was stunned when I started playing with him and throwing the ball and he immediately brought it back to me dropping it at my feet. He loved to play fetch and would sometimes initiate it by dropping his toy at my feet. He went to the door to go out and seldom used the litter box. He would respond to the command No-No. He would greet us at the door, joyful upon our return or at the car if he was outside. My son's little half sister used to stay with us a lot and she said one day, you really love that cat, I can tell.
I am a softie for cats and dogs and birds. I watch all the cute kitty and puppy shows on Animal Planet. _____________________
Interesting! My two black brother cats are so different in personality. I call one of them my "puppy kitty," so I really enjoyed this post.
Anyone who is a dog lover should have had all kinds of red flags going off watching Kate with those puppies. Her understanding of a puppy's needs and how a dog thinks was shamefully rudimentary for someone taking on what I consider "advanced" dogs.
She's Come Undone -- Book Bud is one I haven't heard of before. Do you have a URL? I tried googling it but got nowhere(it took me to a self-publishing company). SYKM is a wonderful resource. Did you subscribe for their eletters? They come out twice a month and are free. Lots of info in them, although they mostly focus on DTBs rather than ebooks.
There's something about cats and TP. I had one cat who loved to shred TP, but she didn't use her claws, she used her teeth. I had to keep the TP stored in cabinets out of her reach, or I'd have a very damp mound of shreds. I kept the roll in use in the cabinet under the bathroom sink, and I had to put a childproof latch on the door because she could open it. That made for some, um, shall we say -- interesting -- times on occasion.
Good one, aggie, but you don't get snow. I need snow lovers. Although that would leave out most of the people in IL because I'm one of the few snow lovers that I know! Most of my coworkers don't want to talk to me during winter. Lol!!!
I enjoyed these posts. I have a 10-year old dark gray cat with yellow eyes. She wandered into our garage when she was four months old and wouldn't leave so she found us, we didn't find her. When she came into our lives I couldn't come up with a name. So, I thought, she's the color of gun smoke and she's a kitty. Where do you find gun smoke and Miss Kitty? Get it? So I named her Kansas.
She also loves to play fetch and comes when she's called and responds to the word "no". I could tell you so many stories about this beautiful cat but I won't. Too much :)
Oh, I'm also allergic to cats and have to be on two different kinds of medicine and see an allergist. She also gave me allergy related asthma but I wouldn't trade this cat for anything. She has brought us so much joy and entertainment and our dog, Annie, is absolutely in love with her so we're "stuck" in a good way. What I wouldn't do for my animals.....
Hey LMG! Our snow? Well, it started snowing the day after Christmas and was very heavy and wet which caused a lot of accidents. I've been enjoying watching it. We've only gotten maybe 4 inches. Nothing to write home about.
I am insulted! We DO get snow!! I'll have you know we had a white Christmas this year,lol... I think we got an inch or so,and it didn't melt for almost two days!
True, though, we don't usually have snow. I grew up in the Houston area (and someone earlier said they didn't like Houston cement!), I think I was almost a teenager before I saw snow there (of course it melted as soon as it hit the CEMENT, I didn't realize we didn't have SOIL, hehe).
I am living not too far from Dallas now, and they have lots of ice. And ice ain't nice. :(
Thanks LMG! I've been a fan of yours since your story of the soccer battlecry. That stole my heart. So precious.
Hi Remona Blue, Aggiemom, Linmarie! And fellow Texans Sorry Aggie about my Houston cement comment. Congrats on A+M's great football season. I just hated seeing them leave the Big12. I look forward to seeing their bowl game and Johnny Football.
////////////////////
Yes, I remember that scene where she had a TLC credit card at Party City and just spent an unlimited amount for Halloween without a care in the world. THAT is why when she wrote a Coupon Cabin blog about Halloween and fall savings a couple of months ago, she said that costumes are about $20. She has no clue that those costumes are so much more expensive because she has NEVER paid for one herself or looked at the price tag when TLC was paying.
I'm just catching up here. We went out for dinner at a spiffy sushi place. We had to wait in line then wait forever for our order but it was so worth it.
d morning ladies and any gents. First I want to say I was out of line with my comment yesterday. You are correct that this blog, for the most part, welcomes and is kind and very funny.
I don't know why this happens and I don't know if it happens to anyone else but for what ever reason LMG became special to me. This does not mean I think everyone here is not kind. When I read some of the post to LMG I have to say that some were, imo, largely not worded very kind and it brought back feelings in me that I have yet learned to subdue to perfection.
I have always jumped in to protect the underdog, not that LMG is an underdog, yet I have not learned how to properly step in for myself. When, I'm not sure who it was, commented about being a click that issue stirred feelings in me again and I made it personal. I am very sorry for that. You didn't deserve it.
The one thing that does frustrate me though is that when some post opposite opinions, some get defensive and imo get passive aggressive. I know that some regulars have felt the same way because there are comments like, ok, I know I'm going to get blasted for this, or, I'm posting anonymous this time. If it doesn't happen then why are people afraid. I don't understand why, instead of saying if you don't like it find another blog, say humm could it be that they have a point and look for a solution. Not every opposite opinion is a sheeple. Maybe ask what made them come to that opinion.
Anyway, I mainly wanted to say I was wrong posting that comment. Thank you for your posts to me. It helped me find my way. Now that's how to find a solution. Hogs to all. For real.
This is how I enjoy the blog and I assume others do too. If I disagree with something someone else has generally jumped in and the whole topic has been hashed out before I get to the bottom of the page. My input would be redundant and not nearly as hilarious as many of yours. However, I do not feel like an outsider at all even though no one here 'knows' me the way the regulars are known. Lurkers are occasionally mentioned kindly in posts. Thank you for that. Maybe some people need the payoff of from throwing a hissy fit. I had a cat that loved scratching paper. She once destroyed my checkbook which I accidently left out on my dresser. From that day forward, when she wanted me to get up and feed her, she would search for some paper to attack, knowing the noise would get me right up out of bed fearing she was destroying something important.
I also had a cat that swallowed a shoelace. I was washing my mom's sneakers, and I took the shoelaces and threw both sneakers and shoelaces in the wash. After they were washed and dried, I put the sneakers and shoelaces on my mom's dresser, but didn't bother to put the laces in the sneakers-just laid them on the sneakers.
When my mom asked why there was only one shoe lace, we surmised what happened and watched that cat like a hawk, waiting to see if she would show any symptoms or distress. The cat was fine, and the next day, I actually found the missing shoe lace in her litter box. Apparently, it just passed through her--
Hard to believe, but it is a true story--NO LIE!!
Mel, I'm so sorry about your son. Please don't blame yourself, sweetie, you didn't know. I understand what you and others have said I appreciate all of the input.
I am hopeful because my daughter called her dad yesterday and they talked for awhile. He said it was a good conversation and when he asked her if they would still be coming here for the family get together in February, she didn't say no. She said she didn't know and we'll see. We will find a way to work this out for the good of all concerned, especially our grandsons.
To all of you getting snow, I'm so jealous! I love snow and the more we get, the happier I am. I'm still waiting for a big snowfall for the Chicago area, but it hasn't happened yet.
For those of us who were discussing the hambone soup yesterday, I made it today and it was delicious. I delivered to my friend and her family today. I hope they enjoy it. It's a very easy recipe.
Now to chime in about this blog. I love coming here for all the comments and the good conversations. I've never felt that there was a clique here and I've always thought people here go out of their way to welcome new posters. It's a big community, for sure, but there is a closeness that develops after awhile. Thanks, Admin, for all you do here. Hogs to all of you!
There are very few soups I would drive to another state to eat, but ham/corn chowder is one of them. Please eat a bowl for me, OK? Thanks.
California Suzy - loved your post! Very inspiring, I've been thinking of doing something similar but lacked the motivation. Thanks for the nudge! And your comments about Kate ring true.
Off-topic - has anyone had a Mrs. Prindable's apple? I was given one for Xmas and, on this snowy day, I'm slowly devouring it. Devour is the appropriate word LOL. I recommend this if you need a gift (they come beautifully wrapped) or just want to indulge:
OMG, I had almost forgotten about those!
I ordered some two (2) years ago and also devoured them...if I remember correctly, there was one with almonds which I think was my favorite. Got an assortment--gave away a couple of them and wished I hadn't!
Our feline princess LOVES licking plastic bags! Funny how she gets this orgasmic look on her face as she slurps, schlops away. Priceless! Unless, we've left a bag of something in or anywhere near our bedroom and she decides to go at it in the middle of the night. Grrrrr!
We call her our Bag Licker!!! : /
Get your dirty minds out of the gutter, ladies!! LOL!!
njay -- I've always considered you one of the regulars, too, and I know I've responded to some of your posts. I think part of the problem is that you don't chime in very often. Try to post more and you'll get more responses. I can't speak for anyone else here, but when I don't respond to a post, it's for a specific reason. It's a topic I'm not much interested in, it's a topic I don't know anything about, other posters have said what I think and much better than I could express it, or -- and this is the most common -- I've been gone most of the day and the blog has moved on to other topics by the time I have the chance to read the posts. If I think I have something relevant to say on the subject, I may chime in anyway, but usually, I just let it go.
Please, please, please post the recipe for the ham/potato/corn chowder! It sounds so good. I love corn chowders, and it's so hard to find good ones. Sometimes they come out tasting like wallpaper paste. I normally like Campbells Chunky soups, but their chicken corn chowder was one of the most disgusting things I've ever tasted. I'd also love the recipe for the bean/dumpling soup. That sounds really different and interesting. I love soups, but my old standby is vegetable beef barley soup that I learned to make from my mother, who learned from her mother, who probably learned from her mother. It's so good on a cold, snowy day.
Cat story - several Xmas ago had lots of plastic silver tinsel on tree - cat (Atocha) loved it and ate it and walked around for a few days with lovely silver tinsel out her butt - no hurt - just pulled out easily but so funny
Re cats licking plastic -- That is very common. There's apparently something in the plastic that tastes good to them. Some also like to lick photographs, although now that everyone is going digital, that doesn't happen as much any more. Be careful, though, because if kitty also chews the plastic, it can cause a nasty, and very expensive intestinal obstruction. If your kitty eats string or tinsel or anything stringy or ropelike and it's hanging out the rear, be VERY CAREFUL if you pull on it. If you feel any resistance at all, stop immediately and get kitty to the vet. Stuff like that can get entangled in the intestine and pulling on it can cause all kinds of serious problems, including perforations, obstructions and prolapse. A doctor I used to work with had a kitten swallow a small piece of yarn and it wound up with 7 intestinal perforations. Three operations, several weeks in kitty intensive care, and several thousand dollars later, she had a healthy kitty again, but it was touch and go for a week or so.
Pym,
Waving hi! Yeah, what JudyK said.... start posting.
:-) :-)
On another note, I too can post and have absolutely NO ONE respond to my beautiful, articulate missives. LOL
I suspect that some folks say 'ah, geez, another hot wind bag post from perm', scrolling, scrolling.... other times like Pym said, maybe my post was so spot-on that folks are nodding their heads in agreement... or it could be that my words just didn't resonate with anyone. Maybe they don't agree and decide not to respond out of desire to keep things friendly.
Truly, doesn't bother me if no one responds back to me personally. Those kinds of posts are fun to get, but someone mentioned a while back that this blog is like a party with all of us circulating with our rumspringas and purple clogs, chatting, listening, nodding, sipping... and even some of us sitting on the sidelines for a bit just people watching and being glad to quietly enjoy the ambiance. A group is sure to be out on Dwindle's veranda murmuring what a nice time they are having.... and perhaps (lovingly) commenting on who's stuck to the counter...
I wonder about the 'new' posters who come in with an attitude immediately. Surely they cannot expect to welcomed with open arms and given hogs for being rude and antagonistic? I figure they are the same people who, in real life, have problems getting along. Real life and cyber life, both have the same requirements for getting along.
It'a a head-scratcher, all right....
PYM, so keep on posting girl - you're welcome here anytime. Your same sounds so familiar... is there a Pym's candy or soda or something. Pym or Pim is ringing a bell in the back of my grey-haired head....
Moose - Where exactly will you be strategically putting those jumbo moose dogs, may I ask?
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
In my Bullwinkle ears, of course. Moose dogs act as antennas. They can detect trolls that come anywhere within 10 miles of the party.
I was going to fill my good bra with them, but Kate still hasn't revealed where to buy that inflatable undergarment.
lol! They are like Kate, they like shiney things. I had a cat who decorated her litter box with it, too so I had to quit putting it on the tree. (I mean the tinsel, not the glittering kitty turds)
Enjoying the cat stories.
Didn't know I even liked cats that much until two years ago when I took in two 3-month old black feral brothers. (Found homes for the rest of the litter and got the mother spayed...I still feed her outdoors, along with a son of hers I couldn't catch from another litter--they live in my yard--and both have beds with blankets on the porch. Took me two years to catch the mom.)
I have two dogs, as well, and always considered myself strictly a dog person, but I am IN LOVE with my black kitty brothers...OMG, they are precious to me, and they are never allowed outside. I call them my gay kitty brothers because they adore each other and sleep with their "arms" wrapped around each other. If something were to happen to me, they would have to be adopted together.
PN in blue - that would be Pimms gin - oh yes
I love this blog! Just today for instance, I loved the comment about being organized. That was spot on. I also laughed at the cat stories, we are dog people but your stories are so funny. I got a kick out of hearing from another Texan. We live to the east of you but your town is my favorite in all of TX, but the area that DMasy, at least I think it was DMasy is moving to is way cool, such a great fun place to go on vacation.
For those of you feeling a little neglected, don't worry about it. This blog has gotten so big and with so many comments its hard sometimes to feel in the loop. I've had lots of comments go with no response and then I've had others that got lots of responses. Just hang in there and keep commenting on whatever floats your boat.
LMG, I'm so glad your husband and daughter had a good talk. It's a beginning and that's what counts. I wish you all the best.
Happy New Year to everyone here. Oh, by the way, whoever it was that posted their dinner plans for New Years Day, count me in. I'll be there with bells on!!!
Darn, I forgot to mention the iPad issues. Can they just drive you nuts at times? I love mine and use it most of the time but then here comes Google to screw things up and now I can't post anything on any blog on the iPad. I have no idea why, it just has a double image on the comment box and won't let me type at all. So, I have to pull out my laptop which sits right beside my chair and that's how I comment. I just don't get why they have to change things when it was working so good. One other change was there is one blog that I can't even see comments at on the iPad. I thought maybe they had gone private but got on my laptop and there it was, comments and all. Sheesh.
Kate and Gladys Kravitz are both MIA. Could it be that the two of them are finally hand in hand, walking off into the sunset together (as Milo had once dreamed would happen)?
What was the song that admin thought was perfect for the two of them? It wasn't "Wind Beneath My Wings." Was it "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face?" Nope. That doesn't sound right. What was it?
It bothers the heck out of me when I can't remember something, which is quite often!
Speaking of peeing pants, I have a book to recommend for all the cat lovers. We got it for our son/DIL for Xmas - they have two Maine Coons (my grandcats)
I COULD PEE ON THAT - sorry I don't know the author; it's a small book of hilarious poems by cats. Cat lovers will understand it perfectly!
Also, another one called something like:
HOW TO TELL IF YOUR CAT IS PLOTTING TO KILL YOU. Again, don't know author, but it's hilarious.
When you read posts from the bottom of the page first (as I do), and the first post you read is Admin posting the words to "Close to You", my first thought was 1) she started drinking wayyyyy too early this morning....
and 2) WTF is going on around here!
:)
Aggie,
Me too! LOL
I try, most of the time anyway, to go back to last post I made and work down. But going from bottom up can be fun too...
lol at the shiny sight from your cat's rear! My dogs love to eat kleenex and toilet paper. I often pick up pure white 'piles' from the backyard. Um, good fiber? Sorry, not as picturesque, but funny to see.
Njay,
I remember you from way back, I think. Can't think of how long I've been here... maybe 2 years or more? There are so many posters who used to post and now lurk, stopping in from time to time.
We float in, we float out.
When the Ewe Cabal gets too bad, I take a break, depending on my tolerance for shit-stirring.
But I definitely recognize your name and am glad to see you posting again!
Hey Permanent! :)))))
And a big Tx HOWDY to all the newbies here!
And njay, I always enjoy your posts!
..still shaking my head at Admin's song post though...
Pimm's gin...... nah, that's not it. I don't drink gin. Got sicker that a sickie on the wrong side of the tracks in Sickville back in college. Gin gives me the shivers even just thinking about it now. Ugh
Is there a Pimm's Root Beer? Hmm, have to google that. If I recall, it makes me burp with the first glug. Very carbonated, but oh so tasty....
Burping, yes, I'm a lovely guest at the table. ha ha
This is the ad on top of my page:
'Click here to view your arrest record now'
wtf???
:)))
I read here often, not all the comments. I post once in a while and am usually without responses. But once when I needed lifting up, boy did I get it, and I'll never forget your kindness. I tend to be on here when others are not so much. I'm a west coaster with extremely late hours when I usually browse around. I'm glad you have all enjoyed the holidays and no one has reported tragic news.
This is the ad on top of my page:
'Click here to view your arrest record now'
wtf???
:)))
-----------------------
Are you sure that wasn't meant for Stephanie? :)
I've gotten those ads, too, along with the Christian Mingle. Maybe those with arrest records are looking to turn their lives around with a religious epiphany.
Hubby blurted, "Wanna a date?"
So we are on the road to the nearest casino for dinner, overnight and some video poker for me.
Yeah.
Pimm's gin...... nah, that's not it. I don't drink gin. Got sicker that a sickie on the wrong side of the tracks in Sickville back in college. Gin gives me the shivers even just thinking about it now. Ugh
lol! Back in college we drank Stingers. To this day I can't look at white creme de menthe.
If anyone is interested in a good PA Dutch recipe for corn chowder, give a yell, and I'll be glad to post. I just made split pea with ham (Christmas leftover) in the crockpot and it is amazingly good. No recipe...I just dumped.
We're stuck inside, it's still snowing, roads are a mess, and I'm watching Paranormal State. Bored out of my mind!
A friend sent me an email some time ago. I don't remember the exact wording, but this is the gist of it.
Phone conversation:
At Home Business owner: Hello, Acme Electronics? I have a problem with my printer.
Acme: What's going on?
AHBO: The paper keeps coming out all bunched up, and sometimes it's shredded. But strangely, never when I'm sitting there with it, only when I leave the room. I come back and the paper is unusable.
Acme: OK, try (solutions a,b,c,d) and see if any of those help. Call back if you're still having trouble.
BO: Ok, thanks.
Next day, the phone call was repeated. And the next day. No suggested solutions worked. He wondered what to do. He needed a working printer!
The next night, the AHBO was printing off some store records while he took out the trash. His daughter ran out the back door and told him to come quickly! Come NOW!
Business Owner ran in to the office, and there
it was. His cat was standing at the printer, attacking each piece of paper as it came out of the machine, ripping some, crumpling others.
AHBO: Um, Acme Electronics? I think we've isolated the problem and his name is Buster.
I had a female cat who would do that, too. She was also convinced her mission in life was to save the world from all pens and pencils lying on tabletops. They had to be flung across the room with great glee and look of "so, whatcha gonna do about it, Mom?"
That's it! Thanks, admin! That would have bothered me all night. Perfect for walking along the shore, into the fading sun.
Here comes the snow plow. I think I'll flag him down and get him to do the driveway!
Parent -- YELL!!
fidosmommy -- I had a cat who would steal every pen in the house and play pen hockey with them in the kitchen. Last time I moved the refrigerator, there was a whole herd of pens underneath it. He never touched the pencils, just pens. One time he bit down too hard on the pen and I had a red kitty with blue ink stains on face and paws. I teased him about being a patriotic kitty, because he had a white undercoat, so he was red, white and blue. Sadly, he crossed The Bridge a few years ago, bit I still occasionally find a pen in an unlikely place, and consider that a visit from him. He also was fascinated by the creche I put up on my entertainment center every Christmas. One year, it came time to pack it up, and Baby Jesus was MIA. I finally found Him, in May, when a neighbor helped me move my very heavy hidabed couch. He was under the furthest corner.
More ski doos than cars going by - yep still snowing - can you say cabin fever?
Lilly, you lucky girl you!! Send some of that wonderful snow my way!
My cat is a model of good cat behaviour at age 18, but my dog Zoe used to eat duvet covers. Not pillowcases, not slipcovers, only duvet covers. We would go out and when we got home the corners were all chewed off our duvet. I finally had to go back to blankets.
New Years' resolutions: I make the same one every year, which is that I vow to not impede the flow of the Mississipppi River for 365 days. So far I have kept it for 26 years.
Resolutions put too many expectations out there for me to cope with, and I would rather just try to do a little bit better day by day. This may not get it for everyone, but it works for me.
Pims Biscuits (cookies) perhaps?
Njay - I always like reading posts from a fellow Jersey native.
Border Collie, I agree, there are a bunch of very nice people here.
Hey, I'm a New Jersey native, but haven't lived there since I was 1 1/2 years old. Even so, it counts some.
LoveMyGrandsons - hope this cheers you up - email me if you want more pics - but it is STILL snowing..... (BarBQ last week - so this is just from Friday am.)
Kate was spotted in NC not NYC on the 26th. I read this on twazzup.
She was in a large jeep limo . No kids spotted.
Reader lady: would love to share my chowder recipe. One of the reasons why chowders can taste bad is if raw potato is used. They can make it taste pasty. I use canned whole white potatoes and cut them into chunks. It cuts the cooking time and it is never pasty
Single recipe...I usually double it.
In a large saucepan:
2 cups water
2 cans whole white potatoes chopped into chunks
1/2 cup carrots
1/2 cups celery
1/4 chopped onion
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper and garlic powder
1/2 bag frozen sweet corn
Combine all ingredients and cook on med high for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile in another saucepan:
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
2 cups milk
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup cooked cubed ham
To make cheese sauce: start by melting the butter and add flour and stir til smooth. Add milk and cook til thick and bubbly. Add cheese and ham and stir til smooth. Add to vegetable pot.
Enjoy! I serve it with big corn muffins
Franky glad you got the altitude back and lost the snow pants and have the right boots on - mine are green rubber to the knees and still snow overcomes
Lilly, love the picture and would like to see more. I don't know your email address so I will email admin with my email address to pass on to you.
Will you please do that for me, Admin? Thank you so much.
Hi Njay, I also remember you from way back. I know you have been reading and sometimes commenting for what seems like too many years. I think I am something like you, I read regularly and very occasionally post.
Also another thanks to Readerlady. I know you were responding to someone else but last night I was busy taking note of more authors' names.
If I may I would like to share some of what was in our church bulletin on Christmas Eve:
"My gift to you is joy...
Joy and peace in your families as you gather around the table and welcome newcomers.
Joy and peace when you meet people with sincerity and forgiveness.
Joy and peace that will weave memorable and bonding patterns in your festivities...
Joy that is unexpected, joy that is anticipated, and joy that is shared.
Joy and peace that appear gradually, and leave a longing for eternity in our hearts."
A very happy new year to all.
Forget it, Admin and Lilly. I can be email challenged, and it was asking me for my incoming and outgoing server and I have no frickin' idea! Even the hubs didn't know. Oh, well, Lilly; I'll just have to keep drooling over your avatar. Lol!
Oh well only use it here so let's see what happens
Oh...so, so many LOL posts here today! : )
Can't remember all but.....
How to know if you're cat is plotting to kill you. Bahahahahahaha!!!! Now THAT is a book we need in this house. I'm thinking something may be up with my kitty.
: /
Tinsel butt....tinsel kitty turds.......OMG! Stop! Stop! I'm dying laughing over here.
And lest I not forget "follow me". " all around". Lalalala! Tee Hee! That's quite a song and NOW I can't get it out of my head. ; (
As for posting, people feeling left out, etc, etc. I just went through that on this blog a few months ago but, if I recall correctly, everyone here was VERY nice to me when I, mistakenly thought, I was being ignored. I guess the big difference in how my 'complaint/whining' was that I did not attack anybody. Wasn't rude, condescending, stomping my feet, etc. I simply asked. Then I was given lots of hints, advice and explanations about this fast moving blog and it's really not possible to respond to everybody. Can you imagine??
I wish I could answer everybody and sometimes a post is so spot-on that I feel I HAVE to give props to whoever wrote it. Sometimes I feel bad doing that though because there are always tons of posts I'd like to comment on but I need to sleep at night and it would be a 24/7 job just to answer everybody.
Oh ya....one more thing: you can always try a typo and become the most famous, awesome poster here like MEEEE ( just joking ) when something like 'HOGS' catches on. LOL!!
Or bed shits!!! : )
Aggie - wimp lol - hope sick kid is better it was fun with you on Xmas day
Lmg - just go to your regular email place and type in my name - should work
That sounds wonderful, Wowser. I'm going to try yours. Thanks. I heard Readerlady's yell. Here's a PA Dutch version:
Makes six servings. I double the recipe. I also add two sliced hard-boiled eggs to this, as well as parsley, even though it isn't included in the original recipe.
Corn Chowder
2 slices bacon
1/4 cup chopped onion
2 medium potatoes, cubed
2 cups corn
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 cups chicken broth
2 tbsp. flour
2 cups milk
In three-quart saucepan, fry bacon until crisp. Remove and drain, reserving drippings. Crumble bacon and set aside.
Cook onions in bacon drippings until soft, but not brown. Add potatoes, corn, celery, salt, pepper, and 1 1/2 cups chicken broth. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer 15-20 minutes.
Blend flour and remaining chicken broth. Add to vegetable mixture. Cook and stir until slightly thickened and bubbly. Reduce heat.
Add milk. Heat thoroughly but do not boil. Top with crumbled bacon. This is a simple corn chowder if you want one without ham. For those who like ham, this ham and cabbage soup is one of our favorites:
Ham and Cabbage Soup
2 Tbsp. butter
1/4 cup minced onion
1/4 cup chopped celery
1/4 cup flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
3 cups water
2 cups chopped or shredded cabbage
2 cups ham, cooked and diced
3/4 cup sour cream
Melt butter, then saute onion and celery until tender. Add flour, salt and pepper, blending until smooth.
Add water and cook until mixture comes to a boil, stirring constantly.
Add cabbage. Cover and simmer until cabbage is tender, about 10 minutes.
Stir in ham and cook until heated through.
Blend in sour cream. Heat, but do not boil.
Lilly, I am such a dope sometimes. I copied your email address and sent you an email from Yahoo. Sheeeesh. I wish I would think more before I type!
Oh ya....one more thing: you can always try a typo and become the most famous, awesome poster here like MEEEE ( just joking ) when something like 'HOGS' catches on. LOL!!
This reminds me of Mrs. Malaprop. Anyone heard from her?
Parent, that ham and cabbage soup sounds delicious! Two of my favorites so I am definitely going to make it soon.
From our discussion of books and authors a few weeks ago, I want to send a huge thank you to whoever mentioned We Need to Talk About Kevin. I actually found it at my library and am reading it and it is different and yet I can't put it down. Thanks for suggesting this book.
I also found two new sites for free or almost free Kindle Books. One is called Book Bud. It is great and each day you get an update on your e-mail about the new ones for the day. You just click on it and it takes you automatically to Amazon where you order it. Great prices that usually don't last long, but a great selection.
The other site I found just the other day for mysteries is stopyourekillingme.com. Lots of interesting stuff there.
Back to reading.
California Suzy - loved your post! Very inspiring, I've been thinking of doing something similar but lacked the motivation. Thanks for the nudge! And your comments about Kate ring true.
Off-topic - has anyone had a Mrs. Prindable's apple? I was given one for Xmas and, on this snowy day, I'm slowly devouring it. Devour is the appropriate word LOL. I recommend this if you need a gift (they come beautifully wrapped) or just want to indulge:
http://www.mrsprindables.com/
____________________________________
OMG, I had almost forgotten about those!
I ordered some two (2) years ago and also devoured them...if I remember correctly, there was one with almonds which I think was my favorite. Got an assortment--gave away a couple of them and wished I hadn't!
************************************************
Heavenly!!
I think I've seen them at Bjs.
What a great gift idea, and the price is right too. Thanks for the http address :o)
Top of my screen they are doing a call out for teen singers, actors and dancers. Should we alert Kate?
Judy K, Dmasy, Permanent Name and LMG thank you for your kind words. I had to chuckle, though, as the point of my post was that acknowledgement was not necessary. That not withstanding, I wave wildly to you, too. I was first taken by the name Pym from the writer Barbara Pym. I just liked the look and sound of it. Phoneticly it is an anagram of imp, and imp was the perfect description of my last very black cat. So Pym he became. Now he has gone but I keep the name, but in lower case.
I would like to expand on the last bit of my post upthread (2). As recipes are a major topic today I would like to make the analogy that even trolls, drive-bys or even newbies who don't know their way around are all ingredients in the stew that is this blog. Unless the sniping gets really over the top, I can't really get all that worked up about them. Just as our favourite dishes (oops, I just gave myself away as another Canadian, didn't I) combine sweet, salty, and sour flavours (did it again)so do all -- and I do mean all -- the comments here add up to the blog it is. Some of the best discussions have been initiated by the most unlikely (read rude)posters. My opinion only, of course.
Wowser and Parent -- Thanks for the recipes. They both sound delicious. I'll try them both. That ham and cabbage soup sounds good, too, Parent.
We got about 3 more inches of snow last night and this morning, on top of the stuff we already had on the ground. More digging out needed. At least the wind isn't blowing this time, so there's minimal drifting. LMG -- I'd gladly ship this all to you, if I could figure out a way to do it without it melting.
Admin -- Thanks a lot for the ear worm. Now I can't get "Close To You" out of my head. It's my least favorite Carpenter's song, too.
Santa brought me several DVD sets for Christmas -- Seasons 3 & 4 of "The Mentalist" and Seasons 1 & 2 of "Rizzoli and Isles" , so I've been watching some of them this afternoon. I didn't get to see all the episodes when they aired, so it's nice to catch up.
Lilly, I got a pre-paid credit card that I use exclusively for online purchases. The one I have is a Visa, loading charge is only $2, and the monthly service charge is less than the interest would be on a credit card. It's also a good way to control my spending, because I put a certain amount on it and when it's gone, that's it. I tend to get a bit carried away on book sales, LOL.
Happy New Year to you as well.
-----------------
Just make sure you don't overcook it, or it will turn to mush. We like the cabbage chopped, not shredded and not too fine...gives it more "bulk!"
We still have Christmas ham left over, so I think I'll do the ham and cabbage soup tomorrow. This is perfect soup weather. Nothing like a big bowl of soup served with cornbread or crusty rolls to beat the chill. I hate snow.
Improbable, Fuzzy Britches is a crumpled up paper player,easy to shop for. She got into a roll of TP once and was all tangled up...The Mummy Returned. What a hoot watching her run through the house.
Dmasy, the Gruene/New Braunfels area is a nice place to be. I used to go to The Tavern in the Gruene quite abit. Hopefully your son will get away from Houston soon. I never much cared for that place, I think I am allergic to concrete.
So, kk is missing in action? Perhaps she is on a shopping binge with her grift cards. Such a pathetic person.
Anyways, I can never get a clear visual of her giving her kids a true, Loving, heartfelt hug..though, I can see her shaking them down for loose change.
Have a great evening everyone!!!!
Finished "Kevin" last night. Very shocking ending- won't give spoilers-but amazingly chilling. Left with an uneasy feeling about the whole nature vs nurture debate. Also the futility in solving this increasingly common problem among young people.So many variables. Would love to discuss this book and the issue sometime, hint, Admin! Anyone seen the movie- I hadn't known it was made into a film.
Snow 8-10 inches expected here in the Northeast in case anyone's interested lol
TxBR549, I don't recall seeing your name here before today, although my memory is not what it used to be. So let me say welcome!
SwingsandRoundabouts, thank you for sharing what was in your church bulletin. It is so true and I loved it.
Fun image, lol. How could you possibly get angry when they're so darn cute?
Wondering...Am I misremembering things, or was there actually a K plus 8 episode involving toilet paper? Not the CC debacle, but something to do with TP-mummified kids?
Thanks Pink. Judging by your posts, you are a very kind and compassionate person.
LMG, also thanks. Best wishes to you.
Yes, that TP game occurred the day "Shoka" was returned. Kate had made the basement a Halloween fun center and needed time I guess to load Shoka into the garage to surprise the kids. The activity was to waste- um- wrap one another like a mummy with Charmin or Target brand TP, not QN lol. The kids did not seem that into it...then they just ripped it off in 2 seconds. Some ecology enthusiast.
I think you mean the TLC crew,not Kate, made the basement into a Halloween fun center. It was all for an episode. The one and only time those kids were permitted to have some Halloween fun.
To those who have snowy weather, may you stay safe and warm! :-)
Swingsandroundabouts, what beautiful words. Thank you for sharing! Love your posting name, too.
Ty LMG for the welcome. I am a new poster here yet a longtime reader. And I can say to any reader who may be holding back that first post, jump on in, the water is fine!
LMG, I sure hope things work out for your family, I have you in my thoughts. My first grandchild is due in May. I am so excited!
Improbable....Oh my, I remember that episode, does this mean Fuzzy Britches owes her royalties? I hate to see a cat drop out of kitty college in order to work to payoff a debt. She could be a Extreme cat napper. I wonder if TLC needs a new idea?
I best be thinking about dinner....and more football!
Ty you all for the warm welome!!!!
Rhymes, the only sauer kraut soup that I know of from my grandma started with the hambone. She boiled it for a couple of hours, took out the bone to cool, then added onions and sauer kraut, and I think chopped potatoes. However I don't know the spices that she used. She shredded the ham left on the bone and added that to the soup. I'm sure I have forgotten some of the ingredients, but this is the best I can remember. By the way, my grandma was 100% Polish so the cooking she did she learned from her mother. Hope this helps.
lol, yes, that's a given, sadly. That was also the episode where Kate was 'shopping' at the party store for Halloween items ( on TLC's tab) and threw everything she saw without looking at price-tags higgledy-piggledy(sp?) into a shopping trolley, not a care in the world. Geez, the time I take comparing prices and brands to get the best deals...where were Kate's coupons?
To njay, I've been around the blog from the beginning, but don't post very often. I seem to remember you as a regular as well. Have always enjoyed your posts. Keep posting! :) I really don't think the blog is cliquish, just seems like there are some who post more often than others.
To Jane, My mother buys Mrs. Prindables apples every Christmas from QVC. YUM!
To Auntie Ann, For the life of me, I can't understand why someone would call you rude. I find you witty, sarcastic,(which I love) and very intelligent. You make me laugh quite often!
To LMG, I adore you and your stories about your lovely grandsons. You're a woman with a huge heart. <3
I'm sorry to hear of your latest difficulty, but I think the ladies here have given you some sound advice, and I know that your situation will be resolved. Stay strong!
BTW, has anyone heard from Robert Hoffman? I hope he hasn't been silenced...
TxBR549, your first grandchild, how wonderful! Congratulations to you, hon. Grandchildren are a special joy that the Lord blesses us with.
Thank you for you well wishes, also. After the phone call yesterday, I am confident that things will work out. Hogs to you, newbie!!
Speaking of darling Shoka, I've always found it funny that Kate's fans (who go on and on about how lucky and spoiled Shoka is) seem to have conveniently forgotten how unspeakably nasty Kate was to both Shoka and Nala in that J&K Plus 8 episode where they bring the puppies home.
Shoving their muzzles into their food, screaming at them for having accidents (what exactly did she expect from two untrained puppies???), sticking her nose up at the idea of having dogs, saying "you're not welcome" when the kids thanked her at the end. Heartless and cruel.
And now she tries to pass herself off as a true dog lover? I know people can change their minds, but I'm just not buying it.
I hope dear Nala is doing well these days.
TxBR, welcome to the blog! I look forward to reading your posts :) Happy new year to you.
Elvis Fan, what a sweet thing to say, thank you. Yes, things will work out. Thank you for the well wishes.
Anyone who is a dog lover should have had all kinds of red flags going off watching Kate with those puppies. Her understanding of a puppy's needs and how a dog thinks was shamefully rudimentary for someone taking on what I consider "advanced" dogs.
You're quite welcome, LMG! :)
To TxBR549..Welcome! ...and isn't BR549 the licence plate number from Hee Haw? :)
Kate doesn't love animals. She's so hateful. I pray that Shoka is alive and well, and with a family who loves and cherishes him, as he deserves!
Elvis Fan, dear, you are showing your age!
*snicker*
(I'm just messing with ya, I remember watching HeeHaw, LOL)
And welcome to TxBR549...we need more Lone Star folks here.
aggie, if I recall correctly, we have quite a few Texans here. I think we need more people from the Land of Lincoln! Lol!!!!
To TxBR549..Welcome fellow Texan! I'm in Fort Worth.
I'm close, LMG..how's Michigan for ya?
LMG....
is there such a thing as too many Texans??
one of my fav quotes:
and no, this had nothing to do with Kate G. I just felt like sharing it.
Jo, great sand dunes. How's your snow? That's my deciding factor!!
She's Come Undone -- Book Bud is one I haven't heard of before. Do you have a URL? I tried googling it but got nowhere(it took me to a self-publishing company). SYKM is a wonderful resource. Did you subscribe for their eletters? They come out twice a month and are free. Lots of info in them, although they mostly focus on DTBs rather than ebooks.
There's something about cats and TP. I had one cat who loved to shred TP, but she didn't use her claws, she used her teeth. I had to keep the TP stored in cabinets out of her reach, or I'd have a very damp mound of shreds. I kept the roll in use in the cabinet under the bathroom sink, and I had to put a childproof latch on the door because she could open it. That made for some, um, shall we say -- interesting -- times on occasion.
Good one, aggie, but you don't get snow. I need snow lovers. Although that would leave out most of the people in IL because I'm one of the few snow lovers that I know! Most of my coworkers don't want to talk to me during winter. Lol!!!
I enjoyed these posts. I have a 10-year old dark gray cat with yellow eyes. She wandered into our garage when she was four months old and wouldn't leave so she found us, we didn't find her. When she came into our lives I couldn't come up with a name. So, I thought, she's the color of gun smoke and she's a kitty. Where do you find gun smoke and Miss Kitty? Get it? So I named her Kansas.
She also loves to play fetch and comes when she's called and responds to the word "no". I could tell you so many stories about this beautiful cat but I won't. Too much :)
Oh, I'm also allergic to cats and have to be on two different kinds of medicine and see an allergist. She also gave me allergy related asthma but I wouldn't trade this cat for anything. She has brought us so much joy and entertainment and our dog, Annie, is absolutely in love with her so we're "stuck" in a good way. What I wouldn't do for my animals.....
Hey LMG! Our snow? Well, it started snowing the day after Christmas and was very heavy and wet which caused a lot of accidents. I've been enjoying watching it. We've only gotten maybe 4 inches. Nothing to write home about.
LMG,
I am insulted! We DO get snow!! I'll have you know we had a white Christmas this year,lol...
I think we got an inch or so,and it didn't melt for almost two days!
True, though, we don't usually have snow. I grew up in the Houston area (and someone earlier said they didn't like Houston cement!), I think I was almost a teenager before I saw snow there (of course it melted as soon as it hit the CEMENT, I didn't realize we didn't have SOIL, hehe).
I am living not too far from Dallas now, and they have lots of ice. And ice ain't nice.
:(
Jo, 4 inches is more than we've gotten!
aggie, you can keep your ice, hon. I only want snow. I know, I know, I'm so picky!
Long time Lurker first time comment. Love this site. Garden Ridge TX
Welcome, linmarie! aggie will be happy. Lol!!
LMG,
You sure are being PICKY! LOL
you are right though, ice and pine trees don't jive too well together.
Ok, though, if you must, you can have ALL the snow..
here's hoping Oregon State beats t.u.!!
Welcome Linmarie...just seeing Texas makes me happy!
Yeah~ oregon state just scored!
Waving at another Texan!! Welcome to the site.
aggie darlin', I'm glad you have such a great sense of humor. Love conversing with you, hon. Big hogs to you!!
Admin has an awesome new post up!
DMasy, I'm not 'new'. I'm also not 'jen'.
Readerlady, my cat must be dumb. She doesn't really get into anything! She's getting old tho and has taken to sleeping in the closet. It makes me sad. Such a loyal friend. A heating pad that purrs pretty much on demand.
It's starting to sound like an AA meeting in here! LOL Hello, my name is ______ and I'm a first time poster. And then a chorus of "Hi _____!"
Not that I'd know how AA meetings work. ;) I watch too much tv.
Auntie Anne, hello. *nod* :)
I don't use the name Jenni.
Thank you to all who shared book suggestions. I've ordered two books based on your comments.
I'm neither a sheeple nor a shit stirrer. I feel my comments have been respectful, more so than some of the regulars but oh well. Time for me to move on.
Thanks LMG!
I've been a fan of yours since your story of the soccer battlecry. That stole my heart. So precious.
Hogs to all!
:)
I sure wish Dwindle would get off her duff and get back on here!!!
She is breaking Kate-code! She is SUPPOSED to tweet and blog non-stop while her kids are there! I thought Dwindle was a contract-honorer. #callingdwindle
Jen...
Don't go!
I read some of the posts of yours and Jenni...yours were spot-on, the other, err,,well, umm...
Jen, don't go!
Yes, aggiemom, I AM showing my age! LOL. I just hit the big 5-0. (eek). Used to watch Hee Haw with my dad. Great memories.
LMG my daughter is currently living in the Land of Lincoln, although she was born in Dallas, TX and considers herself a Texan. :) I'm from R.I., but have been in PA for 7 yrs.
Hi Linmarie!
NEW POST!!!
:)
Jo@105 - love that name Kansas and yes those with that lineage do come in gray with yellow eyes and they are such a joy.
Halftime and I am liking Oregon ST being in the lead! So many Austinites just wanna see Mack Brown gone with the wind.
Hi Remona Blue, Aggiemom, Linmarie! And fellow Texans
Sorry Aggie about my Houston cement comment. Congrats on A+M's great football season. I just hated seeing them leave the Big12. I look forward to seeing their bowl game and Johnny Football.
No snow here in Austin! I think the heat has kicked on about 10 times since Thanksgiving.
Well, almost kickoff time so I bid you all a goodnight....Hogs to all!!!
Oh and Jo, glad to know that you have had that same experience as I have tried to tell others and they are like okay, sure, yeah, mmm huh. There are some really cute videos on You Tube of these cats too.
TxBR549--
no need to apologize to me about Houston cement!! I thought that was funny.
Oregon St is still ahead, but not by much. :(
Guys, there is a new post up. Be sure and pee before you read it.
lol, yes, that's a given, sadly. That was also the episode where Kate was 'shopping' at the party store for Halloween items ( on TLC's tab) and threw everything she saw without looking at price-tags higgledy-piggledy(sp?) into a shopping trolley, not a care in the world. Geez, the time I take comparing prices and brands to get the best deals...where were Kate's coupons?
////////////////////
Yes, I remember that scene where she had a TLC credit card at Party City and just spent an unlimited amount for Halloween without a care in the world. THAT is why when she wrote a Coupon Cabin blog about Halloween and fall savings a couple of months ago, she said that costumes are about $20. She has no clue that those costumes are so much more expensive because she has NEVER paid for one herself or looked at the price tag when TLC was paying.
I'm just catching up here. We went out for dinner at a spiffy sushi place. We had to wait in line then wait forever for our order but it was so worth it.
Permanent name @ 23 - Never mind me, I would be honored to sit by YOU on Dwindle's veranda! I am genuinely humbled by your comments. Thank you, and I hope you know we already are friends. My favorite cat book is FAT CAT (I ate the pot and the old lady, too). It's an old Danish story. I read it to my kids a million times when they were little.
Elvis Fan - thank you, and I don't know why either. ??? lol! Post more often will ya!
Welcome Pym & TxBR549!
I'm a lurker too pym, and I don't always get a response but it has never stopped me from reading here. Love it and love all the wonderful, smart and very funny regulars. I'm sitting right over here in the corner nodding my head to every word I read.
Hope everyone has a safe and fun new year. Keep um coming!
Awwwwww, that's so darn cute!!!
lol!!! This reminded me of a kitty we used to have that would tip over every glass/cup he could find CONSTANTLY!!
LOVED the Buster story!
Awww, sleeping in the closet sounds kinda cute, Jenni. I miss hearing kitties purring. Though, I have 2 min pins that are very good heating pads. :D
d morning ladies and any gents. First I want to say I was out of line with my comment yesterday. You are correct that this blog, for the most part, welcomes and is kind and very funny.
I don't know why this happens and I don't know if it happens to anyone else but for what ever reason LMG became special to me. This does not mean I think everyone here is not kind. When I read some of the post to LMG I have to say that some were, imo, largely not worded very kind and it brought back feelings in me that I have yet learned to subdue to perfection.
I have always jumped in to protect the underdog, not that LMG is an underdog, yet I have not learned how to properly step in for myself. When, I'm not sure who it was, commented about being a click that issue stirred feelings in me again and I made it personal. I am very sorry for that. You didn't deserve it.
The one thing that does frustrate me though is that when some post opposite opinions, some get defensive and imo get passive aggressive. I know that some regulars have felt the same way because there are comments like, ok, I know I'm going to get blasted for this, or, I'm posting anonymous this time. If it doesn't happen then why are people afraid. I don't understand why, instead of saying if you don't like it find another blog, say humm could it be that they have a point and look for a solution. Not every opposite opinion is a sheeple. Maybe ask what made them come to that opinion.
Anyway, I mainly wanted to say I was wrong posting that comment. Thank you for your posts to me. It helped me find my way. Now that's how to find a solution. Hogs to all. For real.
Thanks Joy! I typically use Stub hub but before I default to that I want to be sure I'm not missing anything.
