This is a time of year that is about love, family, friends and most of all giving. Discuss holiday plans, recipes, gifts (the tangible and intangible) and more here.
Meanwhile, just in time for the season, Netflix and Amazon.com have released for streaming a raw and intense documentary about giving, Craigslist Joe.
In December 2011, 29-year-old Joe Garner decided to see if he could live solely off the generosity of others all month long. He empties his wallet and takes to Craigslist. The dozens and dozens of heartwarming (and often funny!) encounters Joe has with people from Craigslist moves him, and viewers, to tears. In particular, he is once invited to stay with an Iraqi family in Seattle. They tell him about their experiences, good and bad, as immigrants in the U.S. And in New York, he meets an eccentric woman named Fran with cancer. Joe quickly realizes Fran has a severe hoarding problem. Without judgement, he spends a few hours at her place clearing one small area for her to sit, bringing joy and peace to Fran. Will Joe find a place to rest his head and food to eat every day? The answer may surprise you.
Craigslist Joe is the ultimate 31-day grifting plan--and yet this grifting had a greater purpose. To see if most people really are generous, open, and good at heart. Perhaps the most moving moment of all is when Joe's mother talks about the experience. She says she wasn't going to worry about her son out there. She was confident her boy would find plenty of good people to help him. We were rooting throughout the film for Joe to prove his mom right. Thank you, Joe and Zach.

«Oldest ‹Older 1401 – 1600 of 1625 Newer› Newest»Sure Remona CAN be disrespectful. So CAN I, so CAN you. Every person has that capability. But the fact is, the vast majority of the time the people on this blog choose not to be. You have to look far and wide for any disrespect shown to those who join the conversation in a
respectful manner. Those who drop nastiness and run don't get positive responses as a rule.
I don't understand the whole point of that jab at Remona Blue. Sheesh. It really makes no sense to me. Remona Blue, you're OK with me.
Remona -- oh, you had The Big Boys on the Bus, too. Whoa...a bat! That is worse than a kid who smells like horses giving you a flannel hug.
Thanks for making me laugh sometimes and think sometimes.
I mis-spelled your name once. I saw it flash by with an A just as I hit publish. You didn't say a word about it.
I like ya Remona :) Always enjoy your posts!
I am surprised that this blog is ever described as "cliquey." I feel the exact opposite:
Posters here come in all ages, stages of life, past experiences, personalities, opinions, etc. Everybody contributes and everybody is treated respectfully, for the most part. When there is an issue among posters, it seems to be resolved very quickly. It's not like only two posters get responses, most do.
Also, if you happen to not get a response from anyone, it is not meant to be taken personally I am sure. Maybe others just happened to miss it, or they got sidetracked by other posts. Maybe a certain post is something that other posters can't relate to or don't have anything to say about it.
That is NOT to say that you are not a valued poster or that people do not enoy reading what you have to say. :)
#trollsaretiresom
Has the format of the blog changed or is it because I'm using my iPad and a portable WiFi? Whatever it is I don't like it as it's very hard to post and read.
Susie in cincinnati - I watch Criminal Minds, Dexter, Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad and I don't consider myself to be scary. My reading also consists of mysteries, etc. I do agree that the sheeple you're talking about is odd.
Fidosmommy -- I'm with you. Bats can just stay away. I feel the same way about spiders. I know they're supposed to be beneficial, too. Well, they can just go be beneficial in someone else's home, because I dont' want them anywhere near me!

It was so hard to walk into that school building this morning and see all our beautiful, trusting, innocent kids there and not burst into tears. I don't know how those parents are ever going to be able send the surviving kids back into a school building, and I don't know how those teachers will ever be able go back, either.
I haven't watched "The Hunger Games". I tried to read the book, but I have a low tolerance for violence. I know it's supposed to be a satire, but I just found it sickening.
Awwww...everyone is being sweet. I feel like Sally Field!! But, it's not necessary, really. I'm a little ole lady, who has lived a very long time, and am secure with who/what I am. It honestly doesn't hurt me even a tiny little bit if someone wants to snark at me...obviously, I will snark right back! I'm pretty thick-skinned, and I've been posting on message boards since 1/1/97. Some of those soap-opera boards can be VICIOUS. I'm Remona Blue on THIS blog only...and no way in hell am I going to reveal my ''soap board posting name!'' LOL As they said way back when....onward through the fog!
I admire those with a thick skin, Remona.
I am admittedly such a baby lol, it's like the joke in my family how easily my feelings get hurt and how sensitive I can be.
Honestly, good for you. Now that I feel more and more like a legit adult and not just a legal adult, I am trying to grow a thicker skin myself and let harsh words go in one ear and out the other. :)

I used to read at several soap opera boards, and yes, they can be vicious!! Another board that is really bad is the DWTS forum. Some people take offense if you don't root for THEIR favorite couple. That applies to both the DWTS boards, AND the soap boards.
In recent years, I've stopped watching soaps, so I don't go over to those boards much.
I used to watch Passions just because it was SO hokey, so poorly written, so poorly acted and just dumb. I was fascinated. Turns out that's the way the producer and writer intended it to come across. Dumb and wacky, mostly for the audience to scratch their heads and wonder what in the world is going on here? He pulled it off and so did the actors. In reality, they're all good actors.
The plots, such as they were, were painful, the characters were either wooden or hyperagitated, and it bounced between reality and fantasy in a flash. Does it sound like something anyone would like to audition for? Hmmmmmmmmmm One scene I remember with a snicker is Sheridan in an ocean, paddling around calling out "My love!
My love!" over and over again because she knew she was in love with someone but couldn't remember who it was.
I must say that when it went to Dirct TV, which I don't have, I didn't miss it.
I wonder if Kate ever regrets or is even aware of how she has blown so many opportunities, so much was dropped at her feet and could have been hers if she would have played nice. Through her own doing, so far she has lost her family, her husband, her friends, her jobs, and sooner than she thinks, she will lose at least 50% of her kids.
PS...I like this cliguey blog. I really learn so many new things from everyone who posts here.
I wouldn't call the blog cliquey. I would say that there are just some groups here who just have a lot in common. That's a good thing. It's like a little community. I don't post very often, but feel comfortable doing so.
Marie
One thing I've learned over the years is that other people's feelings are vaiid, even if they differ from mine. So if there's anything I'm doing to make anyone feel less comfortable in posting, I hope you'll tell me so.
I know what it's like to feel left out of things (understatement). More times than I care to count, I wasn't invited to join in any reindeer games. Boy howdy, it hurt! Only over time did I learn how to jump into those games/conversations, without first waiting for an opening/permission. LOL, sometimes I ended up inserting at least one of those feet into my mouth, but oh well, that's how it goes. Part of the fun, if you choose to look at it that way... :)
NJ Gal, I had a similar problem with the Ipad yesterday. Take a look below the 'home' prompt and if you see something that says 'view web' click on it, it worked for me.

Also, be sure to watch the accompanying video.
It warms my heart how people have stepped up to help the people of Newtown, CT.
Count me in your fan club, Remona! Your posts show that you surely are a "most unforgettable caracter". Personally, I like that. Life never gets boring around people like you. ;) And you definitely can laugh at yourself, as you have shown that infamous night when you were up too late.
It's really not just this blog but anywhere when people get to know each over a period of time and who have generally gathered for a common purpose in the first place, they tend to be more open and talkative to familiar "faces". I think it's a matter of perception if someone looks upon it as cliquey.

~~~~~~~~
You mean you don't remember my infamous ''shit damn hell'' after the zillionth time I failed making my stupid Remona turn Blue? If you're going to live as long as I have, and do/say the things I do, you better believe you'll learn to laugh at yourself!
When a teen, my granddaughter asked me why none of us (including her) are easily embarrassed, but instead, think the things that we do that would embarrass others are hysterically funny. ''Then we repeat them over and over to each other, laughing every time, as though it was the first time we'd heard the story.'' I told her that maybe we were just too stupid to be embarrassed. While the stupid part may be true, it is also true that she is the fourth generation of people that just have a warped, self-deprecating type sense of humor. We yam what we yam.
"You mean you don't remember my infamous ''shit damn hell'' after the zillionth time I failed making my stupid Remona turn Blue?"
LOL! I DO remember your "shit damn hell blue period". In fact, we were both trying to turn blue during the same week. (Of course, being French Canadian, I was more in a "bordel de merde de merde de merde", period... Same difference as they say.) I think I even post that if you could do it, so could I. And I did! You were my inspiration, Remona.
So do I (watch some of those shows), but I wouldn't call it a macabre fascination, nor have I simultaneously gone off on Jon and wished him dead!
I enjoy so many posts and respond to so few. I recognize a fair share of the names and remember many of the details they have posted.
Gasp! I have favorite posters.
I appreciate almost everyone who takes the time to share their thoughts.
I have learned so much. I have read some great books. I have tried some unusual recipes. I still haven't gotten my crock pot out off the dusty attic shelf.
I think this is a great blog filled with awesome ladies (and a few guys).
We should be proud that we are going strong while others are "melting".
All that and I forgot to say thanks to our hard-working Administrator.
Oops.
Dmasy... amen! :)
This blog is the only good thing to ever come of the Kate Gosselin saga
I'm going to sound really uneducated in the food department as far as things go here but, a friend of mine came over tonight she's only person I've given a Christmas present to yet and she brought me some Quinoa.
I haven't the slightest idea what it is or what the heck I'm supposed to do with it. She cooks for her two boys and they eat more then I'll probably ever eat in a week so there is a lot of it.
It kind of reminds me of bird seeds, but I'm no bird even if I eat like one.
"It's really not just this blog but anywhere when people get to know each over a period of time and who have generally gathered for a common purpose in the first place, they tend to be more open and talkative to familiar "faces"."
You are so right, Auntie Ann, as usual: after a while knowing each other, if people feel they are in a safe place, that's usually what happens. Last summer, the trolls' drive-by were not as frequent as lately, and we all did get more open with each other on Dwindle's virtual veranda. Nowadays, because of a pike in trolls' activity, we all are a little more reserved and cautious. Maybe this is what the newcomers sense as "cliquey".
Susie Cincinnati -- I watch "Criminal Minds" and "Dexter" (also "Castle", "Bones", the "CSI"s, and "The Mentalist") but not "Breaking Bad" or "Sons of Anarchy". I read a lot of mysteries and true crime, too. I've also never gone off the deep end and wished Jon to be run over by a bus or otherwise maimed or killed. I also used to live in Cincinnati, for what it's worth ;-) . I think the sheeple in question is a very sick individual. BTW -- any chance we could come up with another name for the minions, besides sheeple? I rather like sheep. They're fuzzy and wooly and rather sweet, in their dim sort of way. They're getting a bad rap by being associated with the most rabid of minions.
Oh, for crying out loud: "peak", not "pike"! I don't know what's wrong with me these days. Can't write in any language.
Fidosmommy, I loved Passions too! This time of year I always think of the Harmony town witch Tabitha, and the crazed ax murderer who would always escape the asylum just in time to chase Tabitha around her house, or the town Christmas tree, for most of the holidays. Remember the tsunami? One character survived by riding the town sign like a surfboard. The guys who made that show were warped in a good way..
I'm wondering what menu everyone is planning for Christmas dinner.
I'm in Canada, so turkey will be the star of our meal, Thanksgiving turkey being way back in October.
Do most of you have roast beef? Seems that way according to the food magazines I see. What side dishes are favourites? What desserts do your families expect?
As you can probably tell, food is my passion!
No one should be unkind to anyone after what we are experiencing in this country. The toll of violence whether from TV, Movies, Videos, blogs, facebook or any social forum has to stop also. People can get just as angry on a blog as if in person with someone they know face to face. It is horrific. Kindness is all we can be to each other.. We all have opinions but we don't force our opinions on each other. Now is not the time to throw any inuendos at the Gosselins, be it Kate or Jon as they do have 8 children and I can understand their worry and concern and I do mean both of them as their little people are the target of their parent's being hated. We should not hate, pay more attention to our own houses and always, always talk to a police officer, without calling 911, if we think the neighbor in our town, on our street is more and more stranger, isolated, weirder than normal. It is a violent society we have surrounded our children with and the people who make money off of TV shows, movies, videos, music are Satan for keeping this volence going. Of course it sells, parents sit in living rooms playing horrible video shooting games with their own kids. But what happened last week, I fear is how the world will become if we don't do our own housekeeping.
Be well, be safe and think before you write, think before your speak, think about the other people reading who do not understand what you are saying and see it as a threat.
have wonderful holidays and PEACE to all, along with good health.
That's okay. I pulled up our local news website for the weather report (it's still raining here). Big headline over the video, "Take a PEAK at the forecast."
Marie I just bought some on my vegetarian quest. Just pretend its rice!
We are all in bed early tonight...We are saving our energy up... It's Christmas soon (and I've got a house full of excited happy kids!) GN!
-------------------
How does one save up energy a week in advance? She's in bed at 9 p.m. What would she do if she had a full time job, got home at 5 p.m., had to run the kids around to after-school activities (sports, gymnastics, music lessons), help with homework, cook dinner, do laundry, get ready for the next day? Most Mother's work at home, after a day of work, only BEGINS at 8 or 9 p.m. There is no luxury of crawling into bed just because they are tired and want to "save up energy."
What a tool. I'd be embarrassed to tweet that...but she just doesn't THINK!
Speaking of which...I ordered a new lounge chair for Dwindle's veranda today...you know, to replace that lumpy 'spare cot' she lets me pass out on.
And I thought Kate and her kids were in bed by 7:30 and herself in bed by 7:31? But if nobody ever told Kate the sky was blue in her world it be green...her favorite color anyway because green is the color of cash. Which apparently you can never have enough of. What does that say about people who raise families on a budget? Don't they have enough? Isn't it enough to have a roof over your head?
Yeah...great...if I liked rice it would be no problem but next to potatoes, rice is not a vegetable I like.
Marie,
I love quinoa! I use it as a substitute for rice and pasta. It takes on the flavors of the broth you cook it in. I eat it cold and hot, with veggies loaded in, or for cold salad I add peas, cherry tomatoes, carrots, diced red onion, and a mild oil/vinegar dressing. Sometimes I add feta cheese on top.
Quinoa is very versatile. Give it a try....
Permanent Name,
I was going to suggest a quinoa salad, but you beat me to it. Yours sounds delicious!
Kate's tweets about others being jealous of her are just her way of expressing her anger and frustration with her life. Her life has been a long string of failures for so long now, and she wants to blame someone else for it--not herself. Therefore, it must be the haters' fault. Truth is, she "peaked" long ago, and it's all downhill from now on. She was on a high with all the atention from having sextuplets, and then TV stardom. Now the novelty of the tups has worn off, the TV career is a distant memory, and all of her attempts to get back in the limelight and to cash in on the remnants of her fame keep failing. She is unemployed, divorced, estranged from family and friends, with 8 kids to provide for, and she desperately misses the attention and money she used to have coming in. She is angry, and in order to deflect blame for it from herself, she has decided that everyone is jealous of her.
Make no mistake about it, she is angry, hurt, and panicked. Her life is sitting at home, tweeting with Milo. Her money is going out, with no steady stream coming in. Her one friend, Deanna, is busy with her showbiz life. Does K still go to Ted Gibson? I don't recall seeing any refrences to hair appointments/dinner in NYC recently. That part of her life may now be over, too. If anything, people should pity her. No jealousy here!
***********************************************
I read this and immediately thought of parallels between Lindsay Lohan and Kate. The difference is that Lindsay actually displayed an ability to act at one time.
It's not going to end well for either Lindsay or Kate.
Very yum.
Someone upthread mentioned that kart must be getting pretty desperate about now. She's coming up on 18 months out of work, except for a few one-shot deals, with no prospects on the horizon. Money is likely running through her fingers at a rapid rate. Christmas, spring tuition are two big costs for her now. In my state we also have to pay property taxes this time of year.
And I am getting the feeling that Deanna and purseboy are no longer around either, to calm her down and keep her on the straight and narrow.
If her "publicist" hasn't dropped her yet, that will be happening pretty soon. kart surely doesn't pay them if they don't get her work, and they can't get her work because no one wants her. PR folks don't make money with clients like kart, and PR folks don't work for free.
I wonder if 2013 will finally be the year kart truly fades into the sunset... and I'm curious to know just what kind of job she'll snag when she has to go out for a 'real' job, 9-5 like all the rest of the mediocre people. Like the mediocre job Jon has... (and I clarify here, that "mediocre" is kart's word, not mine).
Oh, dear, I sure would hate to have her for a coworker!
Think she'll sell the house in 2013 and downsize?
Think the private school will give way to public schools paid for with her tax money?
I am thinking we've seen the last dying gasp of her so-called 'career in TV'. Dunzo, kaput, the-endo.
I bought Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts today for no particular reason except that we've never had them before. I'm looking forward to whipping up my breakfast smoothie with this new addition. DH thinks we should try smoking it (haha). I don't think so.
We are all in bed early tonight...We are saving our energy up... It's Christmas soon (and I've got a house full of excited happy kids!) GN!
Why does she have to say "happy kids". Why not just say excited kids? Oh, the insecurity this woman exudes is palpable.
Paper plates,
Yes, it does sound good! Thanks for the url, I made that site a favorite, it has some really good recipes...
You know, I still stand by my opinion that Kate has enough money to get her through the next several years. The way she skin flints with the kids, it's like she is putting money out for only two kids anyways. So her talk of going back to Vegas next year and where ever else her heart desires is possible. She may be saddened her TV career is over, but I believe she has the cash to sustain a life without work for some time to come. She might have a really good financial adviser who has invested her money wisely. Anyone want to lay a bet with me? heh heh......
Why does she have to say "happy kids". Why not just say excited kids? Oh, the insecurity this woman exudes is palpable.
====
Because when she sent them to bed she asked them if they were happy and they said "yes, Mommie Dearest, we're happy".
Oh yes, I'm sure that securing her own financial future was one of the first things Kate "organized" in her binders. She has probably figured out how much she can spend on their living expenses per year, divided it in half and spends the first half on herself and the second half on 8 kids and the dog. Anything left over from the kids' half goes to the one with the biggest spooon. At least that's the impression she leaves with me.
If I was a millionaire and then some (Kate), I can assure you I wouldn't be inviting/using people to come to my place for stuffed shells and brussels sprouts so that they could fix a leaky faucet. Geez, what is a few hundred dollars when you have millions? I keep thinking of that coupongate episode and the cow she had. That said it all for me. Ultra cheapskate. And your Mr. Plumber friend that came was probably a decent guy who felt sorry for you and didn't want to hurt your feelings. Did you play the helpless little blonde dummy? Bet you did. Put the money you saved into buying more Cream de Corps and Pumpkin Spice Bella Bars. That'll get you one of each.
This made me curious, so I checked out Gina's Facebook page. Although the page is private, her most recent profile pic (from 10/20/12) shows Gina and Steve together, and they look glowingly happy. Gina looks like she's lost weight and is wearing a pretty, purple strapless dress. And the many comments beside the pic seem genuine and celebratory, so the page appears real to me. Sounds like Gina was having a birthday within a few days.
They sure don't LOOK like Kate's the other woman....
During that weekend, Kate was tweeting things like:
"If others are jealous, you’re doing something right."
"Life is too short to waste your time with people who waste their own time."
"'Focus on where you want to go, not on what you fear.' - Anthony Robbins"
"Just finished a long SUPER fun project...so good to be home but what a great time had by all involved!....A fun bright future lies ahead!"
Was this last for Steve's benefit? "Look what you're missing?"
Kate sure puts a real damper on trickle down economics. It's trickle up with her apparently.
WGAL? lol, they are infamous for that kind of thing. Did you see the news story today where they said a bus ran into the Willow VALLEY K-Mart? :D
That's the one! I think that they have a group of high school interns writing their articles. It's embarrassing. I'll check out a headline, read a story and then google it elsewhere to get the complete/factual report.
Virginia Pen Mom at 58 ~ Interesting...If I remember correctly, some people speculated about the Shoka's appearance in the photo where he's wearing a hat. Maybe that his chest area fur looked different? The very fact that people are speculating --after she's taken to posting pictures of him again -- says SO much about how they view Kate's credibility.
A certain amount of feedback from peers especially when you are a kid is a good thing. For instance, a kid who never showers quickly learns from peers he is stinky. Is this bullying? He learns a valuable lesson, that not showing causes others to smell you and that it's inconsiderate to intrude on people's smells that way. Hence he starts showering daily and his problems with being called stinky dissolve. If anything, I wish adults would be more honest like our kids tend to be. Any kind of negativity whatsoever these days is called bullying and I'm not sure that is helpful. There is bullying without a doubt, and then there is learning how to interact in a successful manner in society.
The Shoka pictures...
There are other photos of Shoka online that look like the "now" photos and do not show the "golden triangle." I'm having computer issues right now, but when I can paste the website, I will.
One comment under the comparison photos is that Kate posted a picture of another dog that she took at another time and tried to pass him off as Shoka. If she did, then she brought another GS into her house just to take a photo of the dog with a towel on his head because it's her basement - same shutters, same color wall paint (an unusual color) and same color carpet that we've seen in other pictures and videos.
It seems like a lot of the posters here, including myself, have had childhood experiences that TODAY would be considered bullying. I do believe that bullying today is far too general a description of normal childhood behaviour.
My daughter was in middle school and had a little "pow wow" with the principal one day. The principal gave her a lecture on how since my daughter was thought of as a "leader" and as one of the more popular students that a lot of the other kids looked up to, that she should be more inclusive of others...WELL, what happened was there was this girl who basically was verrrry high strung. Chatty, squirmy, she liked to shove and push and slap, all in fun!! My daugther was getting sick of it and was avoiding this girl at all costs...no matter how many times she told this girl to stop, it would be "oh, just kidding, that didn't hurt" So my daughter started to go and sit alone at recess/lunch (she didn't mind at all, she actually enjoyed the quiet time) Well this "special" kid(that's the principal's word, not mine) told on her, saying she was "bullying" her because she wouldn't "hang" with her!! Hence the "talk" with my daughter. She gave her side and was still told "we need to include EVERYONE"
I called the principal telling her my daughter had every right to want to sit alone. I asked her if she had any "co-workers" that she maybe didn't particulary enjoy, and was forced to spend her "free" time with said co-workers? Why did she feel she could force my daughter to give up her "free" time to spend with someone who she basically "didn't like"? If anything the "special" kid was the bully! (not in my eyes or my daughter's, but as per the school's
definittion) The word "bully" will mean NOTHING if it's used to casually describe NORMAL everyday occurences of LIFE!
It seems like a lot of the posters here, including myself, have had childhood experiences that TODAY would be considered bullying. I do believe that bullying today is far too general a description of normal childhood behaviour.
***********
Vanessa-I agree. I remember being teased sometimes as a kid, or being called a name or two, but that's what a lot of kids do. Anyone remember the phrase "Sticks and stones will hurt by bones, but words will never hurt me"? I think every kid I knew said that at one time or another.
I like the explanation that my grandkids' school gives about bullying. Bullying is constant and continuing harassment that invokes fear. This is from their handbook about bullying:
Q: WHAT IS CONSIDERED BULLYING?
A: Every incident will be evaluated on a case by case basis and treated seriously. Generally, an action is considered bullying if it:
-demonstrates a pattern of repeated behaviors
-causes physical or emotional harm to the target student or damage to his or her property
-is based on an imbalance of power in the relationship between aggressor and victim
Q: WHAT ABOUT TEASING? HOW DOES THAT FIT IT?
A: It’s sometimes hard to know when a behavior crosses the line from “teasing” to bullying. Is eye rolling bullying? What about name-calling? We all need to learn to discern between teasing/joking/talking back kind of behaviors and actual bullying behaviors. Sometimes it's hard to tell and often depends on the situation. However, parents and teachers alike should continue to go back to the points above when evaluating: if there is a power imbalance and repeated acts of aggressive, belittling and/or shunning behavior, it is bullying. It is important to keep in mind age and gender differences as well. Sometimes children are simply experimenting with their own social power. It’s okay, as a parent or educator, to say to a child, “Hey, what was that? I’m not sure I liked that look (that comment, etc.).” There’s nothing wrong with having a discussion about it, even if you are not sure what you think: it helps kids learn what the boundaries of acceptable behavior are.
Just saw a tweet from Milo that ahe's worried about apps that are for kids and that the apps track the kids habits and whereabouts!! Isn't that exactly what Milo does with the Gosselins Kids? Always wanting to know what their doing and where they are,what they're eating. Creepy!!!!
I've had no spare time whatsoever lately after losing my mom and haven't been able to read here, but this morning I quickly checked Kate's Twitter and said immediately, "That is NOT Shoka."
Keep up the lies, Kate. I so want PETA to investigate and find out what happened to Shoka.
For someone who specifically stated that they don't "do Santa", she keeps on referring to herself as Mrs. or Ms. Claus. We get it, Kate--YOU ARE SANTA CLAUS to your kids.
Kate's dream of being a TV star and keeping her hooks in Steve are gone.
I've been off line but did a quick search here and am surprised I didn't see that anyone mentioned this story by a woman with a mentally ill son. It's gone viral over the internet:
I am Adam Lanza's Mother
It sheds a little light on the problem parents face with a mentally ill child.
Mel #76, thank you. I'm doing better now, realizing that there's much to be grateful for. She was able to live independently in her home until the end and apparently did not suffer. Thanks again.
Ha Ha--some random tweeter retweeted Kate GM tweet and then tweeted this:
I know she's creative. Because Kate Gosselin finds more ways to say nothing than I can even imagine.
I'd say that about sums it up.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
I never really thought about it before she started her twitter account, but it's obvious that she wants everyone to know that she, as Ms. Claus, is responsible for putting the gifts under the tree, NOT Santa. Seems that this may be one of the reasons for the kids being told at a young age that Santa doesn't exist. She wants the thanks.
It's also interesting that no mention is made of their father and what he is contributing to their Christmas gifts. It's all about her, how busy she is, how much shopping she has done, endless wrapping, busy, busy, busy. Has anyone asked her if Jon is buy shopping, too?
Kate is a Twit traditionally I post it between Christmas and New Year's. I haven't decided exactly when yet but that's probably when I will post.
Admin-Any idea when you will be posting Kate's worst moments of 2012? Looking forward to that post.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&
I'd say one of Kate's best moments is slapping Milo on the wrists for her "tomorrow's another day" tweet. Kate came right back at her after that one.
Rhymes, I'm going to read that article, but have to run out for a while. There are always two sides to every story. It will be interesting to see why the author of this one is upset.
As far as Kate putting Milo in her place after the "life goes on, the sun will rise tomorrow" tweet, I'm not even sure it was intentional on Kate's part.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad she did it and yes, it caused Milo to backtrack and, I'm sure, feel foolish. But, I don't know, it could have been just another tweet in support of the tragedy, rather than a direct response to Milo.
I could be totally wrong and have given Kate credit where credit was due. But when has she ever put her fans in their place about anything, including when they hound her for personal information on her kids?
Tweetle and Rhymes--this is the link to the person's(mentioned in the Slate article) blog who refuted the writer of "I am Adam Lanza's mother". Interesting. Her blog also has a joint statement by both her and Liza Long.
http://sarahkendzior.com/2012/12/16/want-the-truth-behind-i-am-adam-lanzas-mother-read-her-blog/
Apparently, Liza Long has done some interviews. I understand the need to bring awareness about mental illness but now that I read more about her, I don't think she should be the one to do it. She also has a twitter account in which her bio reads:
"I plan to take over the world from a secret base in Boise, Idaho. The plans involve a robot army."
And her twitter handle is @anarchistmom.
If she is identifiable thus making her son identifiable, my gut reaction is that is awful.
Kate's brand is "the mom who takes care of 8 kids by herself". Whatever their father does doesn't matter, doesn't count, is irrelevant. That's why she's always exhausted, always busy, never resting, always on the go. Whether it's true or not. Whether she has help or not. That's shy she's on twitter, to promote her brand. It has nothing to do about anything real or true. It's just brand promotion.
Kate is a Twit, I agree. This woman should not be the spokesperson for mental illness. She sounds like she needs some anger management and
coping skills herself (from reading her blog posts) Sounds a lot like Khate, with a bigger vocabulary.
One comment under the comparison photos is that Kate posted a picture of another dog that she took at another time and tried to pass him off as Shoka. If she did, then she brought another GS into her house just to take a photo of the dog with a towel on his head because it's her basement - same shutters, same color wall paint (an unusual color) and same color carpet that we've seen in other pictures and videos.
I kind of doubt that Kate rounded up another German Shepherd, brought him into her house, threw a towel over his head, took a picture, and then returned the dog to its owner. Sometimes conspiracy theories can be so, well -- out there!
Sorry - it's "that's why" not "shy". I don't think "shy" would ever apply to Kate.
In her blog post, she said she changed his name to protect his "privacy", yet she shows a picture and does an interview? In the interview, she said that her son knows about the blog story, and he is okay with because he feels says that if "it helps to make people understand, it's a good thing". Doesn't sound like something the 13 yr old she wrote about would say. Here's the interview from CNN.
A 13 year old cannot possibly understand the implications of fame. Especially negative fame. What is with some of these parents putting the weight of such important decisions on their shoulders and justifying it if they want it? What do we have parents for anyway, why not just let kids go off and live by themselves and do what they want if they're so capable of adult decisions.
How sad for the 13-year-old boys siblings, who have to live in fear and adhere to a safety procedure.
It seems her story has touched millions. My concern upon reading it was, she specifically says that there is no way to predict what will set her son off.... So why would she write about him and his worst moments publicly, before there has been any kind f resolution or closure? Maybe one day he says he's fine with it, the next he flips out. I know she uses a different name for his privacy, but that's not always enough protection, especially if she is doing interviews and things like that.
OH! Big boys on the bus!! What memories have flooded over me. Once, a ''big boy'' tossed a small jar into my lap as he passed me. A BAT came out of the jar, and attached itself to my sweater front.
******
Oh cripes! I'm so glad you survived that! The practical joke that caused the bus to run into a ditch is hard to explain to a parent, so I'm guessing that Big Boy had to think hard about why he did that to you!
I'm telling you, if that had ever happened to me they would have had to call the coroner. There is no way I would have survived that. No way. I detest bats and am terrified of them.
(Please, nature lovers, please spare me the
talk about how useful and necessary bats are, how the eat mosquitos, etc. I know all that in my head, it's the rest of me that will never be convinced bats are fine little critters.)
I am so weird and I know this and I have accepted it. I am at peace with it. So there is no point in trying to annoy me about my weirdness. I embrace it, along with my love of fettucini alfredo. I am out of the closet for the most part on my alfredo and weirdness.
With that said, I think bats are amazing. yes, i know they are flying rats, for the most part. But I have only seen bats up close and personal a few times in life and I find them wonderfully constructed creatures and even beautiful in some ways.
I have no intention of feeding them in my yard, keeping them as pets, building them habitats or anything like that. I just like looking at them.
Apparently Kate's house is full of excited, happy children.
I'm truly glad to hear that, they deserve to be happy. It's Christmas time, they should be!
But I swear, if I hadn't wasted too many precious moments of my life watching Jon and Kate Plus 8, I would be certain that her 8 kids are actually robots. Now THAT is deserving of a reality show!
Seriously though, don't Kate's kids ever feel sad, hurt, angry, uninterested... You know, normal human emotions? According to Kate, they are ALWAYS happy happy happy squealing or squeaking with utter delight and showering her with saccharine praise.
They seem like fantastic kids and I hope they are very happy. But do they know that their mother makes them sound.... Well, not normal?
Me too fidosmommy. when i was watching Kate on TeeVee, I shuddered at how she controlled the kids food, controlled their portions, used food a weapon, removed food as discipline etc. Because once I was an adult my mind set was "I will eat WHEN I want, as MUCH as I want, WHAT I want; because I CAN and you are not the boss of me anymore!!"
I dont recall seeing Kate use food as a reward however, as my mother did. So I got a double whammy.
Dwindle, you are probably setting Kate on fire with jealously. You are funny and she isn't!!
I have to agree that sheep is a good term. I was at a Colorado sheep farm years ago. Huge pens with hundreds of sheep in each one. Every move the flock made was as a group. When the feed truck came they moved to that side. When they were startled they ran to the other end always as a group. A wave of bobbing sheep backs. Wish I would have got a video of it. It was funny.
I keep thinking about Shoka debate. What Kate recently posted on twitter IS a different GS dog. What Pressi had for comparion show both having different shading of black fur around the eyes and between eyes. The 2010 pic shos brown fur and it covers more than the current pic. One thing I'm wondering is if anyone was using a pic of Nada for comparion by error. That would explain why both do not have the same coloring of fur, placement of the colored fur in question. Unless she was shedding and she lost that black fur below and between eyes.
We have a collie, your typical Lassie. I looked at her "baby" photos and the recent ones of her. You'd never know it was the same dog. She has different patches of tan on her muzzle, and the darker fur on the top of her head now extends down the side of her face in a different pattern. It's the same dog. She never left my side except for her regular trip to the groomer. Shedding? Adult fur?
For what it's worth.
Kate's last TV appearance, I believe, was a taped interview on Access Hollywood, which I think aired the day before her firing(Oct.16). Her prior TV airings were Oct.11 on WWHL, and Oct.3 on Katie Couric. The AH interview was taped when she was in NY for the NYC 10K, which was on Oct. 13. I think she only got those interviews because she was supposed to be promoting her run for Breast Cancer Awareness, sponsored by CC.
So it looks like nobody's calling her for interviews. As far as I know, there were no interviews when she ran in LV on Dec.2.
Is it the same "Shoka"? No idea, but the bottom line is this: Kate's got a reputation for lying outright, and for lying by omission. For this reason alone, we're justified in being skeptical about the "Shoka" photos she's been posting lately...of anything she says/Tweets, in fact.
That's how I view this discussion, anyway.
Look at it this way. After the Apocalypse in three days, you won't have to replace it.
So CC was most likely responsible for her tv appearances. Makes me wonder if she even has an agent/PR person anymore. But, there is the issue of the mom swap pilot.
According to her website, Julie May, is still her manager/agent. As far as that pilot, it was filmed over 2 months ago, and there's been no word about it since.
It really doesn't seem like there's much interest in Kate anymore. Except for Gather or Examiner articles(which have been based on her twitter feed), there have been no articles about her since the LV half marathon.
Worth considering: It took a long while after her inglorious firing for Kate to remove CC from her website. Given that, I don't know that we can automatically assume she's still affiliated with Julie May.
One good thing that's come out of recent scandals is that networks are finally shutting things down the second anything happens. That Best in Show actor had his show pulled just like that as soon as it came out about some scandal. Kate's dirty deeds have gotten enough legitimate press such that she's untouchable. It's not worth it to them. Plenty of other reality shows they could take up instead and reality is a fading genre anyway thank god. I think the best she could hope for is its dumped on some tiny network in cable. Even that is unlikely I think. All those woe is me tweets were because no network will touch her. As usual Kate and only Kate did this to herself.
I swear I did not post that 3 times!! Makes me look like Milo as in hello, is anyone there? LOL.
Speaking of dear Shoka... Remember how inexcusably nasty Kate was to both him and Nala when they first brought them home from the breeder on Jon and Kate Plus 8? Screaming at them for having accidents; shoving their muzzles into their food bowls; saying "you're not welcome" when the kids thanked her for the dogs. And that was when the cameras were running. It made me cry at the time and makes me want to cry in hindsight.
She totally stuck her nose up at the idea of having dogs, and now she claims to treat Shoka like a king.
I know doggies are easy to fall in love with for even non dog lovers, but are we supposed to believe she's changed that much since then??
Please. Only her breast size, marital status, and television prospects have changed since then.
The children did ask who it was so there is really no way to explain why they would ask that...prehaps their memories of Shoka and Nala were scrubbed from their brains or they simply did not remember what their dogs used to look like.
There are some pictures of when both dogs were pups and the current twitter pic does look alot of like one of pups. I just don't know who it is. I think it might be Nala, not Shoka.
Sheep everywhere, I respectfully disagree. Posters here always disagree with one another and with the administrator. Not even just sometimes, this always happens.
From what I see, we form our opinions: the only opinion that is basically uniform is that Kate is a narcissist child abuser, which is really more of a fact.
The sheeple on Kate's twitter literally eat every word we says right up, and agree with one another on everything, as long as its something that reflects well on Kate.
Even in this very thread we are disagreeing about a multitude of things, Sheep everywhere. Including Shoka. I've never seen a group so impossibly removed from group think. I tend to think that's Shoka because some of my dogs markings also changed, although not dramatically. But enough to notice they're a little different. What didn't change is what a teddy bear he is.
Sheep everywhere, we all agree on the facts about Kate. And given that her show was cancelled and most comments when articles appear about her are negative, etc, I guess you can say that the majority of Americans that have seen her show or know about her are sheep too. That's an awfully large herd. The Herd of Public Opinion.
Actually, it's not a fact unless you personally have diagnosed her. Any time a regular or semi-regular has an opinion on Kate that deviates slightly from the "she is Satan" group think, the person feels compelled to preface their post with "I am not a sheeple, but..." That speaks volumes about the group think mentality here.
According to her website, Julie May, is still her manager/agent.
I wouldn't set too much store in that. Look how long she continued to have the link to CC on her website...and it was a direct link to her termination letter! #noclass #nosenseofshame #weird
I would have deleted that link on the same day the letter was put up. But that's just me.
No need to personally diagnose her to prove the "facts". She wrote it in her own journal and we saw years of it on her realest reality show.
Wrong. "Narcissistic personality disorder" is a clinical diagnosis.
You're right sheep everywhere, it's not a fact. It's how we feel. Although the child abuser part is pretty much proven.
No one asks any one to preface their posts with "I am not a sheeple, but.." I can't say why they do that. But it doesn't represent group think at all because even when they use that preface, they are giving a different opinion.
Maybe it's because, who in the world would want to be a sheeple or thought of as one? They obsess over kids they don't know in a really creepy way and turn to Kate for advice on how to use a fork. Hehe yes I know that is an exaggeration.
No, in order to claim as "fact" that someone has a disorder that requires a clinical diagnosis you need to have proof of the clinical diagnosis. That can happen one of two ways: 1) you are a qualified clinician and do the diagnosing; or 2) you have access to patient records with proof of the diagnosis. Since the latter is illegal, that leaves you with the former option.
Working Woman here :)
Sheep everywhere, I will clarify that while we can't diagnose her, we feel she is textbook narcissist.
One thing that cannot be argued is that she is a child exploiter, which is the quality that led to the formation of this blog. That is a fact, not even a opinion or diagnosis.
Think of her best-seller "I Just Want You to Know." She writes personal, somewhat embarrassing letters to her kids that a normal person would just give to th in person and in private, and puts them in a book, and makes a profit off of a book. Seriously, why did she had to write a book about it when she could tell her kids how much se loves them or simply give them handwritten letters that the while world doesn't see? Same idea, right? No because that wouldn't get her $$$$$
That is exploitation, which by the way could be argued as a form of abuse, and VERY narcissistic behavior.
Sorry for typos, silly autocorrect! That the whole word doesn't see I meant :)
Sheep Everywhere I do appreciate you sharing your opinion respectfully and apologize that I misspoke by calling it a "fact".
Narcissists rarely get treatment. So I guess we should just ignore this problem and all the heartache it causes for others around them because no expert has been allowed in.
By the way several PhDs have opined on Kate, I've done posts.
Didn't Kate have some new PR people she was hoping to work with last spring? I think they were from NYC, and I remember one of them tweeting about going to the Hamptons, and Kate was hinting about wanting to go to the Hamptons, too? I don't think they were ever able to line anything up for her, and they just kind of disappeared. Probably figured out how widely dislike Kate is, and dumped her fast. Does anyone else remember them?
NJGal,, thanks for the happy dancing Peanuts gang picture!
If the Dance Moms recreated THIS scene, who would do what? I thought that Flashdance inspired commercial was funny. They could do something like this.
'Thing is... Working Woman never gave a diagnosis, never wrote that Kate had a "narcissistic personnality disorder". She wrote, "she's a narcissist child abuser". Difference. One can call someone else "narcissistic" without it being a diagnosis. Look it up in a dictionnary. Kate is a narcissist. And a child abuser. We saw it. She wrote it. No diagnosis here. Only an adjective.
On TMZ.com there's a side bar on "Today in TMZ History" and there's Jon & Kate with the notation Divorced Dec. 18, 2009. Wow! Has it really been three years? The way Kate keeps running over the bus over Jon every chance she can, I would think that the divorce was more recent. This kind of emotion is what a person would exhibit when they are still "raw" and not accepting the divorce. Kate was the one who filed for the divorce, yet she is the one who keeps brining it up. This lady cannot move on.
In the three years Jon has been in what two serious relationships. The others were flings, as far as I'm concerned. Kate tossed Jon out because IMO she wanted to upgrade. Well, here it is three years later and who does she have in her life? Steve, ah I don't think so. Never hear of him anymore except when she running in a race. So maybe Kate has moved on to.....man, can't think of anybody. Oh yeah, she moved on to me, myself and I.
Why would Milo DM Kate via Twitter, if they're in contact by email?
I think the longer Kate goes without getting a tv show or some major income and fame coming in, the madder she will stay at Jon. I think she looks at Jon as having stopped the gravy train and she'll stay mad about that forever, but especially if the money and fame don't come back.
Why would Milo DM Kate via Twitter, if they're in contact by email?
Kate's mentioned several times that she has oh so much email and just doesn't have time to go through it regularly, thus the DM. Milo must be checking to see if the gift cards, computers, vacation rentals, new Dyson arrived.
White Organiza, thank you. I was not trying to give a clinical diagnosis. I don't know if she fits the DSM IV criteria for NPD, but I do strongly feel she displays some classic behaviors.
By the way, it is not in DSM anymore, if I am not mistaken.
Working Woman, usually what *I* mean when I post about Kate's mental illness is that she displays all the signs and symptoms of narcisstic personality disorder or that her current behavior is very narcisstic-like. When I call her a child abuse, I mean am referring to the actual abuse we witnessed on the children's shows and also what has been caputer in still pictures.
Perhaps that is what you meant too? (Duh, coz I am pretty sure it is.)
But all of that is way too much to type out, so I just call her a mentally ill narcissist and child abuser.
And for anyone engaged in discussion about the language, yes we would have to be privy to a proper diagnosis, but NO ONE can diagnose Kate with out a face to face interview/assessment. No one, not even defrocked psychologists in Texas or English teachers calling themselves 'doctor', can diagnosis without a private face to face assessment and social history. And in my opinion, she needs a PSYCHIATRIST for ongoing treatment, not a PSYCHOLOGIST. Or she needs both, but the PhD Psychologist should be a behaviorist.
I thought some people treating kids have diagnosed narcissism by proxy.
In any case I tend to say she is textbook narcissism. That's completely true, she does in fact display dozens of the hallmark signs and symptoms. Now you can display all the signs and symptoms of a heart attack when maybe you're just having a panic attack, but it doesn't change the fact that your symptoms were textbook heart attack, if that makes sense. Whether she actually has it I don't know but she is textbook no matter what label you want to put on her collection of bad behaviors.
Amy, you mentioned Steve and it reminded me.
You know what I consider one of Kate's worst moves EVER to be? And Gd knows she's had a lot: the mediocre comment, Mady's leg picture, talking about taking the girls bra shopping, fight with Em Tanner, etc. But you know what makes me sick to my stomach, too?
That she actually claimed that Steve was there to protect the kids. Makes no sense whatsoever. Other than the occasional Kate Plus 8 episode where Steve would kind of intervene to help the kids, like when he got them out of the pool at their birthday party after the storm started, what have we ever, ever seen him do for them?
Kate is the one whose purse he held. Kate is the one with whom we went on her book tour and all of those trips. Kate is the one he was constantly with.
Which is fine I guess, as long as they weren't having a sexual relationship (which I still don't think they were, actually). But then why the hell did she tell that story of the man who kept wanting to hold her kids on his lap and say that that was when they decided they needed a body guard? If the man wanted to put the kids on his lap and was creeping her out, doesn't that say that the kids needed protection, not that she does? So who was protecting them when she was dragging Steve all around all the time?
Her usual lies are bad enough. Lying about taking action toward her kids' safety, deplorable.
Working Woman, usually what *I* mean when I post about Kate's mental illness is that she displays all the signs and symptoms of narcisstic personality disorder or that her current behavior is very narcisstic-like.
I LIKE this idea! Maybe after the first of the year, we could chat about how we each met our significant others! And then in a few weeks Kate will be tweeting about how she is meeting all these men! Or women or whatever her interest is, I dont care about that part.
She starts dating her auto mechanic though, and I will be sad. For the auto mechanic. I may have to send Hunnybunny to work with a black armband on.
you know allllllll those months of going on tv begging for a husband, begging to get laid, begging for a tv show to film the whole debacle, and even on twitter, setting placecards at dinner for The Next Mr Kate right in front of her children, and what did it get her? I mean, she did a national begathon for a man-show for MONTHS, and she literally cant PAY anyone to put up with her All American Girl Looks and her Winning Personality!
I think she said it cause it sounded good on TV.
''......That she actually claimed that Steve was there to protect the kids.''
~~~~~~~~
I agree that is what KK said at first. In the last couple of years, she has amended to to be that Steve is there to protect HER, because she needs to be safe in order to raise her 8 children...the ones she is raising and supporting all alone. You know...the 8 children that their father rarely wants to see, and doesn't support...those 8. KK is such a stuck on stupid, lying, waste of skin!!
Lol Dwindle "begging to get laid"?
I bet that woman has as little interst in sex as humanly possible.
Seriously, not that we'd ever want to, but can you imagine her having that kind of passionate, intimate side and just letting loose?
I can't. Her iciniss would make men shiver.
Doubt she and Jon ever had much of a physical relationship either, which is possibly why he went for the young, loss ones when they separated. The way they interacted even when their marriage was decent, it was never lovey-dovey or affectionate at all.
Working Woman said... 172
The one thing about her statement that Steve is there to protect her kids that really irks me, is that she said that when she was on WWHL in NYC, while the kids were home. Steve was right there with her. So how was that protecting the kids?
Everything she said on that show made now sense. She said she can't go back to nursing, because she would pay her babysitter her salary, and then there was her remark about de-aging.
How I wish Andy Cohen has called her out on those statements and the bodyguard statement. But in a way, just by letting her make them, he did let her show the public what a total fool she is.
Remona ... you mean to say that Kate changed her story about something? Unfathomable!
Lol
Kate was asked by Andy why does she need a bodyguard.
And she said "It's my job to be a single mother so I have to be safe"
Andy also asked so does Steve help with the kids.
And she was like "No"
Chefsummer, well at least she was honest that time.
On the series finale I believe, she told the story of her kids and that man paying them too much attention and how then she realized a body guard was necessary. That indicates more that she was concerned with the kids' safety. So that's where the discrepancy is for me.
This was Kate's quote when asked about Steve:
"Because [in] my job as a single parent to provide for eight kids, my safety is imperative to them," Gosselin said, justifying Neild's constant presence. "I'm not going to give out [past horror] stories, but it's warranted for sure. He keeps them safe.
So she first she said he's there for her safety, and then she said that he keeps the kids safe.
Another instance of Kate doublespeak, or is he actually keeping them safe from HER?
Had per-Xmas visitors for a few days -I missed this blog! Can't say I missed checking out what Kate tweeted...my version of what I gather K said :
oh my! I am exhausted-ish and now only a week to rest up for Xmas. Kids-'my big girls' and 'littles' andout darling dog- practicing screeches of joy and thank-yous to the most wonderful Mommy ever.

After reading Robert's book I believe that TLC hired Steve to keep the 8 safe and maybe even Jon.
They may have hired him to keep the fans safe as well.
Or...
Steve may have manipulated Kate in-order to get what he wanted from her.
So...let me see if I have this. It's imperative that Kate be kept safe all because she has 8 kids? You know what that says to me? It says that, hey, Jon can take all 8 kids out by himself with nobody to protect him, it must mean his safety for his kids is not imperative. Ouch. Also says to me, to those who have large families that just because she's on television HER safety is more imperative then anyone else who is a mother, father or caretaker.
And the only reason her safety is even pitched to cover for her lame "bodyguard" is because she put herself out there. Nobody hog tied her and forced her to sign for reality show. It's nobody's fault but her own that they couldn't foresee future needs of safety because they chose to think, "hey reality television money is better then this lame 9-5."
Am I the only one who when I hear her say, "provide," all I hear from it is she's just talking material needs? That's all I hear. I could be wrong but when she just says it word it's as if the immediate needs of materials--clothing, private school, costly trips and planned exeriences--yeah, you heard me TLC planned all those trips no family actually vacations like that. Oh, so the rest of the people who manage to take their kids to Disneyland--do you all walk into your hotel room and your kids ALL get Mickey ears with their names on them? Maybe, I wouldn't know but I doubt it. Penguins all walk into an airport to great you?
Isn't there you know, more to being a parent then just providing for your kids material needs? There has to be.
She may not have been my mother, but I do remember baking cookies with a neighbor lady, she worked full-time, she had children, bills to pay, things to do but I still remember she baked cookies with me. It wasn't because she planned to do it or it was on her "list" of things to get done that day. I don't even remember what type of cookies we made or what the conversation was about but I do remember she seemed amused, talking, laughing, she smiled. I'm not ever sure if Kate's kids will have that type of memory on camera because I don't think, sure you can take a picture, but chances are that one picture or video isn't going to be important I think maybe what is is that you can remember the moment how you saw it that you spent time with your kid or maybe even someone else's kid that you can at least remember you enjoyed the unplanned moment.
I think that's what Kate lost out on. Those unplanned moments that you do with your kids, someone else's kids, if you have neice or a nephew even, grankids. Moments you didn't plan or say, "this is what were doing, this is where were going," but maybe along the way Kate forgot possibly with her "show" becoming more important then the moments that those moments, random mean more to kids then taking then on some trip to Disneyland and photographing it or filming it.
Motive for the shooting is now being reported by law enforcement. Seems the shooter's mother was making plans to have him committed. She couldn't care for him anymore. Why target the children, though? It's being reported that she had volunteered in kindergarten at the school and she and the principal were good friends. From the news report:
"Adam Lanza believed she cared more for the children than she did for him, and the reason he probably thought this [was the fact that] she was petitioning for conservatorship and wanted to have him committed," Flashman said. "I could understand how he might perceive that—that his mom loved him less than she loved the kids, loved the school. But she did love him. But he was a troubled kid and she probably just couldn’t take care of him by herself anymore."
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
A poster here, Blowin' In The Wind, called it on the day of the shooting. I remember it because I thought, hey, that makes sense. She posted:
"I thought about that as soon as I heard that it was his mother's Kindergarten class. There may never be answers as to the motive, but I also wondered if he didn't crave attention from his mother, thought he wasn't getting the love that he deserved because she had too many "children" (her students) who were received her attention. In killing them, he was eliminating what he thought was the competition for his mother's love."
My question is if she thought he was mentally ill and was going to have him committed, why would she have weapons in the house?

*********
That motive is not being reported by law enforcement. The "Flashman" named in the article is a 25 year old resident of Newton.
If you read this story, you will see that it is one of the motives being investigated, just as I am sure there are other motives which are being investigated.
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/12/18/fear-being-committed-may-have-caused-connecticut-madman-to-snap/
This man's father who is a pastor at one of the town's churches even refuted his son's story.
http://www.lohud.com/article/20121218/NEWS/312180119/Newtown-massacre-Pastor-refutes-son-s-account-Adam-Lanza-s-motive
Everything at this point, is still speculation, and should not be so readily believed.
We were talking about this a few days ago whether it was Newton or Newtown.
I see CNN is STILL misspelling it Newton in various articles:
Taking action after Newton shooting
By Steve Kastenbaum, CNN
Just realized I typed the name of the town wrong. It should be Newtown, not Newton.
It's ok everyone is doing it!
That motive is not being reported by law enforcement. The "Flashman" named in the article is a 25 year old resident of Newton.
^^^^^^^^^
Sorry. When I read this, I read "law enforcement:"
"A senior law enforcement official involved in the investigation confirmed that Lanza's anger at his mother over plans for “his future mental health treatment” is being looked at as a possible motive for the deadly shooting."
"Senior law enforcement' is 'law enforcement," is it not? Flashman isn't law enforcement.
Regardless, it's an interesting theory - the shooter about to be admitted by his mother to a facility, and then getting rid of school students (and a principal) loved by his mother.

That's ok, reading books and magazines for pleasure is sooo over rated anyway :D So is housework.
Anyone hear about that 6th grader who brought the gun to school in case of a shooter? That made me sad. Kids should not be in fear in school. He should not have access to a gun, either, but that is besides the point. Poor kid.

I agree. And if the signs and symptoms that indicate a heart attack are causing you extreme physical pain and are debilitating to your daily functioning, you are in deep trouble no matter WHAT is technically going on.
Same thing with Kate. The symptoms that we WATCHED on tv have greatly impaired her ability to live a normal life, have normal relationships with ANYONE, and seriously impair her ability to adequately guide and nurture small children. In fact, we saw her cause HARM to the chilren due to her impaired thought processes and subsequent behaviors and actions.
So whether or not we are right on the money by calling it whatever we do, the point is we have witnessed her symtoms impact her daily life, and prevent her from functioning normally as a member of society and as a mother, wife, sister, daughter, friend, employee.
