'Dance Moms' Season Three: Big changes ahead for production

Lifetime is airing a New Year's Dance Moms marathon all day today, followed by the premiere of Season Three at 9 p.m. EST. Seasons One and Two can be found on Amazon, Netflix, and for a limited time all for free on Lifetime streaming (sweet!).

Love her, hate her, or just don't care, Abby Lee Miller has emerged as one of the most well-known, and polarizing reality T.V. women since Kate Gosselin. (Lifetime is unabashedly advertising Abby as a "maniac" and even Television Without Pity, a site that usually lives for snark like this, said they are taking a break from the show, due to the obvious fake setups and bad acting, and stale formula.)

Dance Moms has been sashaying around for awhile now, but Season Three, which begins tonight, marks the first season that Lifetime's production, based largely in Pennsylvania (although the girls participate in a lot of out of state competitions), will have to comply with Rep. Murt's new child labor laws passed last year. After a brief waiting period, the law will take effect this month, and requires a set teacher on set and limits the hours the girls can work. Previously, one of the moms reported the show films for 70 hours a week.

Will we notice any changes, or will Lifetime still be able to churn out a great guilty pleasure even with safety protections in place? We're hoping the latter. Here's hoping this show can prove that schmalzy,  addicting reality T.V. can still be accomplished without exploiting the living crap out of the children participating.

White Organza, I am sorry for what happened to you. I loved your explanation of how you appreciate life now. Perfect way to live .. Thank you for sharing.

Admin (183) "My BFF is from a rural area thousands of miles away from any big cities. You can't get the caliber of instruction that you need if you want to go pro. "

I know... Sometimes when a child is particularly gifted and focused on being the best he-she can be, it's practically an unavoidable situation. A real heart wrenching decision. But the parents must then super-hyper-vigilant, much more so than if they were still raising their child at home with them. The ascendant of an adult on a young child who is separated from its familial support system is almost unimaginable. An isolated child (physically or even emotionally...) do feel at the complete mercy of the adult in charge and will not necessarily complain about abuse.

From Wikipedia, an excerpt from an interview with Moceanu, the olympian gymnast who was 8 or 9 when she was sent away to live with trainer Bela Karoliy: " Moceanu, who was one of Károlyi's final protégés, noted: "I'm sure Bela saw injuries, but if you were injured, Bela didn't want to see it...You had to deal with it. I was intimidated. He looked down on me. He was 6-feet something, and I was 4-foot nothing."

It's the "I was 4-foot nothing" that gets to me every time...

Mama June spouted Kate's line: "Making Memories".

Can Kate sue?
:)

I tried to watch *most* of Honey BooBoo, some of it was just so gross I had to turn away. I may need to bleach my eyeballs.
I can see why it would be interesting to junior high kids...it was just so crass.
gross.

ok, so the French receptacle answer is hilarious in many, many ways. But really, why bring a yogurt maker all the way from france ( if that is indeed what she did) and then pay someone to install a higher voltage/wattage plug in ( similar to what the oven requires).

Yaaaa, that is saving money! Kate could have likely paid way less by going to the local BB&B, or walmart/target!! Not so money saving savy there Kate!!!

and for apologies!!

1. I am sorry
2. It is my fault
3. What can I do to make things better between us, or to fix my mistake?

Gosh I missed the posts about the "Roma of Rome" about 125 back or so. If you are still around, I must tell you that some years back I was a travel guide in Europe. I would tell my groups, "Beware the Gypsy Children". The majority were very PC and thought I was being racist. I'd tell them, ok but don't complain to me when they surround you and strip you. Inevitably some would be stripped of money, watch, jewelry, even passports. And I would tell I told you not to come complain to me. You were warned. PC enables evil doers.

Bears wife - I admit it, I TiVo'd Honey Boo Boo because I think they're funny too. And yes Improbable Dreams I do think that Celebrity Cook -Off was one of Kate's dreams. Well Kate, another one bites the dust.

It would have especially interesting since Johnny Weir is one of the celebs. He has no love for Kate. haha.

She would have been able to show off her culinary cooking skills too if only they would allow the celebs to bring their own bread maker, meat slicer, yogurt maker...

NJGal51~ It's a fun show, isn't it? Do you think maybe "Celebrity Cook-Off" was one of her "dreams"?

44444444444

Was it something in her list of buckets? or a list she taped on her bucket? or taped on her ass - samething? or a bucket she stood a list... or...

Maybe it was her addiction? or her passion? or she was in love with it? or something she has by dying for her whole LIFE? Or maybe it was insert-middle-school-dramatic-foolish-terminology-here.

Jon 'relaxed' once skating while he and Kate were both outside with the kids, and Kate yelled up the street (not moving herself) 'You can't run away from your kids, Jon!" She could
have handled things from the white throne for two minutes, being such a master mind!
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

I sometimes imagine Jon firing up twazzup and relaxing with a cold one while he reads about his ex-wife's attempts to stay relevant, then thanking his lucky stars he escaped from the craziness and now lives a normal life.

Oh June did dye her hair! But she did hers at home, LOL!! And it doesn't look half bad. She knows how to save $$$.

I love the Honey Boo Boo show. There is so much love and respect for each other unlike that other show that was cancelled in 2011. It is funny and Honey is a very bright little girl. I love the way she adores her little niece Kaitlyn. They do everything together and appear to genuinely like it that way.

Wansnt it Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell who moved from California to Vancouver when one of their kids was playing hockey as a teen? To give him more opportunity, he wanted to possibly pursue a hockey career and was very talented. They did not send their child away, they moved as a family. Taylor Swift did not go to Nashville alone, the family moved when she was trying to start a professional carer as a teen. That's the way to help your kids pursue their dreams. Not to send them away with only visits back home to see the parents.

****

Ideally that's the best thing to do, the whole family moves. Problem is sometimes there are financial and emotional reasons not to uproot the rest of the family. In my BFF's case, she had a brother whose heart was where they lived--they have a beautiful rural home with cattle and horses-- and he would have been miserable in Toronto or NYC. So it would be great if they moved with her, but that wouldn't be fair to him. It puts you in a Sohie's Choice situation. A lot of kids who come out here to LA have fathers who don't want to leave good jobs back home. In fact Fred Savage's father worked back east for YEARS before finally moving out here, even after he hit it big he still worked at home.

I forgot to mention I've switched to using Greek Yogurt to make tuna fish salad as opposed to mayo. It is actually delicious. It is not one of those low fat options that just aren't the same--it's BETTER.

I am watching Honey Boo Boo. I have to admit, I am laughing. Horrible, but genuinely horrible. I rely on the subtitles.

Border Collie 9, your post is interesting. The daughter of my close friend lives and works in an area of Spain where there is a large Roma population - (and btw, "gypsy" is not considered offensive to that population there, she's found). She teaches in a school system there that is 100% Roma students and it's been a terrible experience - she finally refused to renew her contract after this year and the whole situation breaks her heart. Nobody wants to be offensive and it's wrong to lump everyone together, but sometimes you have to be direct about the facts and hope that there is some change over time.

RE the supposed travels of KG, who knows where she went but I suspect there was definitely filming involved or she would have been blabbing all over about it by now. Silence = she thinks it's a big secret before some sort of "unveiling" (except when the kids aren't home, lol).

The Roma people (Romani) originated in India, arrived in Europe, and have the largest population in Romania, but they do migrate all over Europe, often leaving colder climates in winter for the gentler climates in southern countries.you see many people year round in countries like Spain, but not so much in colder northern countries like Germany.

But wouldn't it taste even better if you made your own yogurt in a yogurt maker from FRANCE? On second thought, to make Greek yogurt to use in tuna salad, would you have to buy a yogurt maker from GREECE? Can you make Greek yogurt in a French yogurt maker? ;-)

White Organza - It sounds like you are well grounded in spite of the nun's unlawful act. Thanks for sharing your story.

I had a fab and dress teacher in grade ten who 'felt me up'. One of our assignments was to make a fitted blouse from a pattern.

She'd take us into the fitting room one at a time to make sure we'd made the bust darts in the right place with the proper measurements, etc (remember darts, lol?) After classes or at lunch, depending on how far we were in the project, we'd compare notes about where she'd touched us. We were young and quite naive.

Strange how I remember the part of it I remember vividly wasn't where she touched me, but that she had horribly bad breath.

Oh my goodness, i graduated almost 32 years ago, but last year, I was talking to an old chum and he told me what 'perv' their PE teacher, who was also a multiple sport coach, was. He would make these boys pull down their shorts in front of everyone and have them each submit to an up close inspection of their privates, to include lifting their penis with his hand and inspecting their testicles! CAN YOU IMAGINE??? He's long dead, but that blew me away.

That didn't make sense. correction:

PJ's momma - It is amazing how many stories there are about the disgusting behavior of teachers from our past. They would not get away with it today.

Dmasy- I know there is another post but just had to add that I watched HBB and I was laughing too. They are all so natural with the camera. HBB just lit up that stage on T&T. It was so funny when June came out and debuted her blonde hair with the Music playing, and the things that Sugar Bear was saying. How many times has that scenario played out in homes all over the world. It was just funny. HBB is such a natural and she is a smart little girl. I got a feeling that she could play a role just as well and could actually act. I love the show. I do though wish June would go on a diet. She is frightfully obese and her health has to be affected. I hope TLC or someone steps in and puts June and all 3 girls on NutriSystem or something. The girl that just had the baby doesn't seem to have the obesity gene. The baby is adorable and that young girl takes good care of it and doesn't try to shirk her responsibility off on everyone else. I love the show and can see why it is such a phenomenon right now.

White Organza.......

I went to Catholic elementary school and part of high school. Although high school was integrated, with both boys and girls attending, the girls attended classes together, and the boys with boys. The rotation bells were even synchronized, the girls in the halls, then the boys.

One day, there was trouble with the bells, and the boys rotated to their classes at the same time as the girls. I was on my way to gym, carrying my gym uniform, which consisted of a white blouse, a tunic, and bloomers! I was yakking away to a girlfriend and twirling my bloomers, not even taking a look at the guys. I was 13, and it was the 50's.

After school, the head Sister, (forget the official title now) asked me to see her in her office. She said she had heard about me in the hallway earlier in the day, twirling my bloomers. I sat there wondering what the heck she was talking about. She said, "did you not think you could be arousing the boys?" . I said......"what does arousing mean?"
She said...."you are dismissed!"
