I like the scant few times something good actually comes out of all those years those poor kids were exploited. Too bad they had to be sacrificial lambs for awareness.

<-----From last thread re your cat problem. I bought the cage from Lowes to trap a rabbit that had gotten into our yard and was eating all of our winter veggies. As you can see we caught him. We released him in a field to be with all his bunny friends. The trap was about $55 and we'll probably need to use it again if anymore rabbits get into the garden. It took about 2 days to get him.

Just saying, good to all who organized and all who particiated in this event.

I really hope someone can go, or maybe there will be a transcript? Good for Jon for being on the panel. I think he'll be far more forthcoming than Kate could ever be.
I'll bet he doesn't use code speak ;-)

Is Kate's "staff" falling down on the job? Shouldn't there have been some scurrilous attack on Jon in a couple of filthy gossip rags to diminish and embarrass him right before he does this appearance?

Did somebody actually say, "when does Jon work?"

This is ONE DAY and he might be getting paid! He isn't trying to sell himself with his kids and he isn't trying to make a life withou ever breaking a sweat. He isn't grifting from fans and he isn't begging, pleading or crying to get back on Teevee.

To Carolina peach, I haven't seen that, but I'll pop over there as soon as I'm done here.

As to house cats outside. We had a cat for over 20 years who refused to use a litter box. Simply and totally refused! Poor thing would sit by the door like a dog until she had to go so badly she would cry. She was like this when we got her. Luckily, she never left our yard and had no bad experiences. She lived to the ripe old age of 22. Bad part was she taught all the other cats we had during that time to do the same thing!

She wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed but she was sweet, loving, and beautiful! We still miss her.

Good for Jon, participating in the dialog in a structured environment. Hope the students have done more than a couple of quick Google searches, and bring their A game for building a great dialog.

I too hope there will be a transcript available, or perhaps someone can recap the gist of the discussion.

As to feral cats, I know that our local Animal Control will provide a trap and some advice on how to trap a feral cat on your property. Often the local Humane Society will at least give a discount on spaying/neutering the cat, plus give it a set of shots. Still, it's quite a project to trap a wild cat, and then you have to put the cage in your car - and the animal might spray in fear/distress, or urinate. If you have a pick up truck, probably better for transporting in this situation.

I'm baffled too! It's one day. Maybe Jon used a vacation day, who knows, but to imply that the man doesn't work when Kate "blogs" a couple paragraphs a week isn't fair.
Kate has not had a real job in years and is crystal clear that she NEVER intends to get one. If that isn't a really bad work ethic, I don't know what is.
Her own blog is practically dead from neglect, her CC blogging job failed in an epic fashion, so why The Stir thinks Kate would be an asset is beyond me. The comments are already scathing and I don't know if they'll let it roll off their backs there at The Stir the way CC did.
It was NOT nasty comments that lost Kate her job. It was all Kate.

Disappointing news...I was all set to go to this. The weather wasn't too terrible, even though there was snow and ice pellets this morning. Unfortunately, our school decided to close for the day and Mom (me) needed to stay at home with the kids. I'm going to try to find out if there will be a transcript available for this...sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. If so, I'll report on the highlights. Like admin admitted about herself, I'm a nerd about these things and I really wanted to hear this panel!

So sorry! Perhaps someone local did get to go...

She's off her rocker. There wasn't enough snow to shovel and it's raining now, and everything is going to wash away. Temps are supposed to be in the upper 40s tomorrow, possibly hitting the mid 60s on Wednesday.with heavy rain. Why would she put the kids to work shoveling rain today?

She makes it sound like there was a plowable snowfall.

--------------------

Is Kate so dense that she doesn't realize that there are those who live in her area who actually know what the weather conditions are? Remember the tree thing? She lost all of her trees in the snowstorm, or so she said. Robert and locals proved that it was an exaggeration of greatest magnitude!

Would Kate really send her kids out in the rain to shovel a little bit of snow that's going to wash away anyway, if it hasn't already?

PatK said... 17

Kate was probably planning on a nice, quiet day to stay in bed while feeling under the weather. It's a shame things don't always go her way.

Waddya mean "does this man ever work?" per poster on previous thread.

It's this one day. And there was another day, or partial day, or maybe it was shown on a weekday, but filmed on the weekend, this past summer.

You trying to say the man doesn't get *any* vacation days?
IMO, this is a great use of his time. He isn't using the kids for his personal benefit, he isn't gaining anything personally from this.

He probably drove himself there. Without a bodyguard. And probably did his hair/make-up himself. Snark.

What about Kate? Does this woman EVER work? Going to NYC to have her hair/nails done, and make-up, for a teevee appearance once every 6 months hardly qualifies as work.
A blog post that she clearly has put *no* effort into isn't work either.
Neither is tweeting 450 times a day, when the kids are home.
Why isn't she spending time with them? Giving them her undivided attention?
Yeah, whatever kid. Shut up and let me tweet. Just a second kid. I gotta tweet this. Waddya mean yer bleeding all over? Well, go wipe it up. I gotta tweet stuff here.

I was just reading about ABC's new celeb (HA!) diving show, and I'm wondering...They are really scraping the bottom of the barrel for so-called celebs to put on there (Chelsea Handler's personal assistant, a few has-beens, and flavor-of-the-month Katherine Webb). Kate is desperate to get on TV, ABC is desperate to find anyone willing to go on this show. They have a couple "celebs" who have not been announced yet. Kate has "projects" that she won't announce yet. Could it be??? If so, then wow, she has really hit rock bottom.

Kate apparently doesn't need to work, but Jon does, as he owes/owed back child support, and thousands in back state taxes. He has said publicly that he's having a hard time financially. It's my opinion that he doesn't have a stellar work record/history. I might be totally wrong, but I really doubt it. Some of you think the man is a workaholic..that is fine, that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. But you might be wrong too. I thought we all were allowed to have opinions here? Unless someone has proof to prove me wrong , I will go on believing that Jon isn't one to hold a steady job for any length of time. I don't scoff at your opinions, so unless you prove otherwise, think I should be allowed to have my opinions too.

Kate! Take note!

"Actress January Jones says her hair is falling out … in clumps.

The Mad Men star revealed the news in an interview with Grazia Daily during the Sundance Film Festival recently.

So what’s causing her to lose her mane?

Too much dying of her tresses, according to Jones.

She allegedly told the magazine, “I have been every color and now my hair is falling out in clumps. I’ve been blonde, red with extensions for this film, then blonde, then black, and now blonde again. I’m going to have to shave it off and wear a wig.”

I've got my days and nights upside down....trying to catch up with the comments!!

I also got a trap in order to capture the DOZENS of feral cats that were overtaking our neighborhood, due to the ''cat lady'' who fed them. I'm in Fort Worth, so the critter trap I bought at a feed store only cost $20.00. She refused to make any effort to trap them to have them 'fixed', and everyone in our neighborhood loathed her! The vet that neutered them for me only charged me $5.00 each, and he got to the point of laughing every time I showed up with another cat, saying I was making him broke! It took months, and I had some scarey moments when the trapped cats attempted to claw/bite me through the trap. It all finally ended when the cat lady moved, after the City fined her for having 15 cats in her house! For the first time in years, the neighborhood could work in their flower beds without digging up cat shit, so it was worth all the effort.

I hope you don't feel bad because some disagreed with you. It's just discourse, not conflict.
I don't think Jon's a workaholic either and I don't specifically know his work history, but it seems he's trying to cobble together a career in IT and he's rolled up his sleeves and done solar panel installation, which shows effort.
Kate's got all 8 kids in school and is wide open for a regular job but flat out says she will not go back to nursing. Yet out of the other side of her mouth, she's yapping to the tabloids that Jon isn't supporting the kids financially (and emotionally if you believe her, I don't).
I mean, come on lady! You knew who you not only married but chose to get risky fertility treatments with. Jon never had a solid career and Kate begged him to quit his job which took him out of the work force and stagnated his skills.
With the holes in his employment and the fact he's got no college degree, it can't be easy. Then there's Kate who is a nurse and refuses to practice for a living.

Jon is a private citizen, living his life with his children in as 'normal' way as he can, and that is a good thing for his children. When Jon has his kids, they go out and about doing things that other people do, without any drama. They see him with a woman in a 'normal' relationship, and that is a VERY good thing...it contrasts with their memories of KK's treatment of him.

I don't have a problem with you believing what you believe, or you posting your opinion. I disagree with you, and that is ok. I just don't see how either can ''prove'' which opinion is correct. Actually, I think that since we can neither one ''prove'' what is going on in Jon's life, it is a very good thing.

A couple things about Bethanny Frankel are on Radar today. One, she's been separated for about 2 minutes but already announced she will be penning a book on divorcing and being a "single" mom.
I hope Jason doesn't fold like a cheap suit like Jon did and I hope he gets money, property and equal time with his daughter.
Jason is also blocking Bethenny from taking their daughter to AU for work. Why would you drag a toddler halfway around the world when she's got a father who will have custody when you're gone?
Kate had the edge when taking her kids hither, tither and yon in that she needed them to make money, so Jon lost. I hope Jason doesn't.

-----------------------

Does she refuse to work because she's too lazy, or is there another reason? Does she know that because she's got the reputation for being a miserable control-freak that anywhere she would get a nursing job, reports would fly in the media about how horrible she is? Deep down inside, does she know that she couldn't hold down a job and work side-by-side with mediocre people, always being under scrutiny, afraid that reports about her interaction with others would destroy whatever credibility she has left?

Let's face it. Word would get out and it wouldn't be very pretty. As just another person in the work force, the media wouldn't give her the chance to make the rounds on television, setting the record straight.

Glad you expressed yourself so politely and so clearly - it's appreciated and I think many here agree with you. I'm on the fence about Jon. I do think he's the better parent and I base that on what we saw on the show and what locals have shared when they see him with the children. But, because he's thankfully chosen to remain quiet and private, we know little about his life now.

Mel said... 39

Winsome - respectfully stated. No need to feel that your comment isn't welcome, imo.
Interesting conversation we can have about this.

I will go on believing that Jon isn't one to hold a steady job for any length of time.

I kinda wonder about this, too. It does seem that he might have issues with hanging on to a job. He doesn't seem like a workaholic, go-getter kind of guy. Nice enough, but not a go-getter.

What I object to is Kate acting like he's a loser, when she is working even less than he is. Her jobs, such as they are, might be more glamorous, but she's not working any too hard either.

Just because she was able to acquire all the marital assets doesn't mean she's a hard worker. She isn't.
She's just a better grifter.

Winsomeone said... 40

I thought Jon looked good in the picture that was posted..it looks like he has lost some weight, and he looks more put together. Glad to see that.

I was also thinking that it must be tough for Jon to get a decent job. No college degree, nor apparently any IT certifications.
Plus, he has an odd work history.

Reality TV probably doesn't qualify one for much of a job in IT. Or anything else.
He doesn't seem to have long-term experience in any one field, which could offset the lack of education.

Whoever said that we don't know his recent work history...yes, you are correct. We don't know his recent history. And that's good.

However, Kate has been very publicly fired from two jobs.

Jon may or may not be working. If he is working, they might not be high profile jobs. They might not even be well paying jobs.

But he hasn't been publicly fired for being inauthentic. From two jobs.

From the panel discussion at Temple University today:

"On ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8,’ Jon Gosselin went minus Kate with the audience (for a while, anyway) none the wiser.

“You have to remember that filming is six months out,” Gosselin says. “So I was divorced already, but it’s still filming me married. So I’m still married to all you, because you’re watching my show, but I’m already legally divorced, and I don’t live at home anymore. Your reality on television is not the same timeline as today.”

We knew it was a sham, so there you have it. J+K were done, kaput and so yeah, he started living his own life and dating and there's Kate, letting everyone feel sorry for her as a jilted wife when they were both free to do whatever.
I didn't realize how delayed filming was, although it was obvious they were split when they were filming the final season.

http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2013/01/28/reality-tv-stars-address-temple-students-about-legal-aspects-of-reality-programs/

By Ian Bush

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — TV is not all glitz and glamour — that’s especially true when it comes to reality stars, for whom scandals aren’t always confined to the screen. Temple University brought together celebrities and producers on Monday to answer students’ questions on legal issues in reality programming.

On ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8,’ Jon Gosselin went minus Kate with the audience (for a while, anyway) none the wiser.

Gosselin might regret it, but you can’t buy this kind of publicity, says ‘Cake Boss: The Next Great Baker’ winner Dana Herbert.

“Between them airing me winning on that Monday,” Herbert says, “I went away for a week and came back — sales had just quadrupled, and maintained where they were.”

There are all sorts of legal concerns, from getting permission to shoot on location and show logos on clothing, to keeping talent paid and happy under contract. As part of the university Legal Studies Department’s ‘Law Week,’ Christopher Cabott, an instructor at Temple’s Fox School of Business and a sports and media attorney, moderated the discussion and enumerated the legal issues specific to putting reality shows on the air.

To make the programs must-see, the magic often comes after the cameras are off,” Cabott says, “with stars like ‘The Bachelorette’ contestant Reid Rosenthal kept out of the cutting room.

“It starts off fun, it starts getting serious, and then it gets really serious,” Rosenthal say. “You want to win, but what if it’s not the perfect girl for you? So you’re conflicted the entire time. I proposed to her, which I wouldn’t have done if I didn’t think the other guys definitely didn’t like her, but they were going to win — it’s sick. It’s actually sick. But it makes money. It’s all about editing. They have enough footage where they can make anything happen.”

That’s what TV wannabes sign up for, says “The Michael Vick Project” producer Kijafa Vick:

“You never know how they’re going to make you look,” Vick say. “We try to tell the girls that, and they still want to do it.”

I noticed that people are commenting about Jon missing work. How long was this discussion? Perhaps he took a half day off or is making time up another way. Maybe he works from home and can name his own hours. We don't know enough about Jon and his job to get our knickers in a bunch about him losing time at work. We also don't know what kind of certification he has. He could have been taking courses online or going to night school for all we know. People act like he has a revolving door of jobs. I am not seeing that. I read he had the solar panel job at one time. I don't know if he stills does. As far as the TI job he could have been doing that job at the same time for all we know. If he freelances with the TI job maybe business picked up and he could no longer do both job. (Speculation here folks.) From what I have seen over the last couple years, Jon has been keeping his life private and staying out of trouble. Can't we for once cut this guy some slack? Thanks for letting me express my thoughts and opinions. Have a nice evening:)

Excerpt from: Access Hollywood article June 24, 2009.....Kate & Jon's Divorce Papers Revealed

"Following Monday’s announcement that Jon and Kate Gosselin are separating, the couple’s divorce papers surfaced on Wednesday.

According to the documents, obtained by Access Hollywood, the reality couple has “lived separate and apart for at least two years.”

According to legal experts this does not mean Jon and Kate have been separated for two years. What it does mean is that once they have been separated two years, Kate would be granted a no-fault divorce – even if Jon doesn’t want one."

My take on the panel is that I'm not sure it's enough information to make judgments on whether someone is working or not. First of all, anyone who has been on a panel will tell you it is work in and of itself. You can't just wing it. It involved a lot of prep and due to the private nature of Temple, was likely paid or at least comped for travel. Most people who are on panels work full time too.

I'm not sure whether Jon is employed or self employed right now, but if employed, likely has a personal day he could take to do what he likes with. Or, many employers are happy to allow people to take off for things like this as long as you come in advance and let them know of the opportunity and if they would mind. If self employed, that's the beauty of it, it's easy to schedule in a Monday morning activity like this and make it up later.

If he were puttering around on panels all the live long week that would be one thing. But this was a one-time thing. The last speaking gig he had was when they were married, if I recall.

Can I just say that I don't think there is anything more thrilling as a child than to hear there is a snow day? Can I get an amen!!!

Not only is it a day off but usually it means, where I was from, lots and lots of snow to go outside and build snowmen and go sledding all day long. The best. Homework has already been done because you assumed school was going forward, so you have nothing to do but just PLAY.

That was the best.

&&&

This brings up another important point. When signing on to do a reality show that might turn into something that goes on for several years, I don't think very many people think about their resumes.

Jon and Kate are PERFECT examples because they were both in industries that are highly evolving and require a lot of continuing ed and experience to keep up--Kate in nursing and Jon in IT. Get out of those fields for even 12 months and you are suddenly hopelessly behind. I think you can literally trash any hopes of getting a decent job if you take a gap like that.

Employers aren't going to care you were filming for five years and made millions and were on the cover of the magazine. They want to know if you can do the work and are up to date with what is going on in your field. Literally every day that goes by Kate doesn't get her bootie back into the medical field, the more impossible it will be. Jon faces the same obstacles.

So, short term millions may be all fine and dandy but ask yourself what is your long term plan? Do you want to be a nurse and retire at a respectable 65 or so? And how, at age 32, will signing on that dotted lign affect that.

Seriously, what DOES Kate intend to do. She is 38. She has nearly 20 years left of WORK in her. She can't honestly expect to be blogging in 10 years or even 5 or two years. Heck in 5 years the kids will be college bound and not around, what is she going to write about, the mansion is empty? I would be peeing my pants desperate to get a "real" job that would sustain me until retirement if I were her.

Being a Northern Prairie girl, we never got snow days living in town. Sometimes the bus's wouldnt run so the farm kids stayed home, but the schools never closed. I always said we should get desert days when it went above +40 in the summer, but dont think we ever got sent home for being too hot either...

I see Kate is back to tweeting about specific kids and the specific things they are saying. Looks like she wll try to capitalize on the twins being teens while she continues to infantilize ( is that the right word?) the 9 yr olds. Wonder if those 9 yr olds will ever lose the term "littles"?

*******
Slow and steady wins the race so going back to school to further her degree would have been a clutch move for Kate.
Kate's just not good at interviews or interviewing. She was awful on Andy Cohen's show. She's like dry toast so I think she's already been given lots of media opportunities but she just doesn't have the "it" factor.
I'm not saying that because I disagree with the kids' lives being filmed, I say it because I think Kate should be thinking long term and reasonably.
It must be very hard to come back down to earth after being such a mainstay of tabloid fodder and a truly pampered "celeb".

I can see where snow would be thrilling! It is a lot of fun. It adds a whole
new playground to your yard... ice forts, igloos, snowball fights, snowmen, tabogganing, of course you need more then a light dusting.

I have always wondered how it feels Christmasy, when its green. One year we had a brown Christmas here ( everything is dead) and it did not feel like Christmas. :(

Hey, I bet a snow day to you Admin, was similar to my kids swimming outside in a non heated pool in January when we were at Disneyland. The locals thought we were nuts!

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 62

Tucker exactly, let's assume she didn't exploit the kids. I would still say you know really, be realistic--you are not cut out for T.V. long term. If you haven't come up with someone by now it's probably not going to happen. Sure there may be a TLC special here and there or some kind of silly pilot now and again but actual sustainable, steady work until she is 65 in entertainment isn't going to happen, something that could actually support the family. Everyone in Hollywood has to face that moment where they need to decide if they really are going to make it or are they going to starve and be homeless in six months. There is nothing shameful about saying I gave it a great effort and maybe I just don't quite have it or there are too many others like me or something else I don't know, the fact is it didn't work out, on to the next thing so I can actually put food on the table. Nothing shameful at all. You would only be one of thousands realizing the same thing. So do community theater and get a day job. I mean lots of young people dream about all kinds of things--acting, being president, etc., but when you come back down to earth it's okay to say well maybe that's not for me.

It's the idea of a completely FREE day coupled with being able to play in all that delightful snow instead of just dreaming about it at school.

It truly is a free day for a child because you've already got yourself all ready for the next day and have no obligations that day. There is always something going on for kids except for that ONE day school is cancelled. Even if there were things going on they get cancelled.

It's never the same feeling for an adult because it usually is more work for them. Only a child feels that delightful feeling. In the "old days" we would wait with baited breath by the radio and you could literally hear cheers of joy up and down the street when they announced our school.

Oh my gosh, waiting by the radio with baited breath, for our school # to be called. It was magical. We'd sled all day long, and when older have some shoveling to do.
I just seem to remember the winters being far, far colder with much more snow. And somehow the busses could still run in a foot of snow. None of this canceling at the forecast of snow, there had to be a lot of it on the ground before we cancelled.

Yes! Snow days are great when there is snow. They were magical, somehow, we'd wait for our school to be announced as closed, and if it was done before bed, we knew we could sleep in, forget the homework, and plan our day sledding or whatever. If we were lucky, one day would turn into two or more consecutive days. Those were the best!

Today, however, just another day off. It's no fun playing outside in cold rain.

Admin and Readerlady thank you for your beautiful posts about the ebooks from the library. Thank you for taking the time and effort for a great job of explaining. I went to my hometowns website and just 2 months ago they started Overdrive reader and ebooks. I was stunned! Then I tried to register, but I needed a current drs. license and library card. I live 35 miles south from my hometown and it just made me sick that I thought that I couldn't sign up. Well, then I remembered that I went to school with the librarian and I called her this morning and she knows my boys and I know her son and I told her what I wanted to do and told her where I lived and she said NO PROBLEM! I squealed! lol She set it up and I am going to work on getting it set up tonight or tomorrow! I

Remember the posts about red hair? I have a beautiful story. My sons had a friend they were all best friends named Jason. He had flaming red hair. He was the sweetest young man. He and my son Daniel were in the same grade, Daniel was 12 and Jason was 14. They were playing basketball during a game and Jason all of a sudden got sick at his stomach. The coach let him sit out and his parents took him to the ER because he was hurting so bad and they sent him to Childrens and he was diagnosed with stomach cancer. We were all horrified. He fought it for 18 months. The day of the funeral, I just did not want to go and take my sons to see their best friend get buried. I was crying and I went outside on the porch and just said God, what am I going to do, I don't want to go. Please help me. Across the road from my house was a pond and it had a tree that had never had any leaves on it. A scaggly tree. Then when I was crying and all of a sudden I looked up and there was that tree FULL OF RED CARDINALS! I was incredibly stunned! I had never, ever seen something like that! You might see a red bird, and maybe 2, even rarer 3, but a tree full of them??? And they were chirping and hanging on to those tree limbs, then something said, Count them. And I did and you are not going to believe this. There were 14 red cardinals in that tree! The same age that Jason was when he died! Red Cardinals and his red hair. I wanted to get my sons to see this miracle, but they were all upstairs and I knew if I went in and got them to come down, they would stomp down the stairs and it would scare them and they would fly away! I regret not having a camera to take a picture. But the night before was even crazier! My husband and I were asleep, we were all asleep and about 3AM, the loudest, worst, thunder clap I have ever heard in my life clapped above our house and it was not raining. My son Daniel was having vision problems and he didn't have his glasses on and he told me that he thought the light in his room was on and that woke him up. But he said it was on and on, he first thought it was lightning, but it stayed on and on. It scared my other two they ran and jumped on me and my husband. Then the next morning, we found out that Jason had died in another state. Then I started to put things together. He had told me that he had been dreaming about Jesus walking up to him at the baseball field while he is trying to hit the very very slow ball that was thrown to him and he keeps swinging and swinging at it. Then Jesus tells him, just a little bit longer, Jason. Then we heard that his grandparents went out to feed his beloved dog and they found the dog dead. So, this is what I believe. I believe that when Jesus came after Jason, Jason told him that he wanted to see Daniel and get his dog to take with him and He did that for Jason. Daniel said the light stayed on for a couple of minutes. Then it went away, no lightning, no overhead light. My son Daniel will turn 30 in March, Jason would of been 32.

fidosmommy said... 75

Do you suppose Kate even looked out the window?

Ah, yes, the memories of sledding down the big hill. Wonderful.

Growing up in Louisville, we really did have some good snow days. We had to cancel quite a bit because buses had to run for most of the students. The problem was that there were no
snow plows to do the work. A "Southern city" didn't need snow plows, right? But our mayor decided we did. People needed to get to work and buses needed to run. The city bought the equipment at some major cost. We didn't have the first flake the next 2 years and had very minor dustings the next several. My dad always laughed about that.

I think Jon probably does have a regular job. How else would he survive? I can't see him taking handouts. I think he learned to stand on his own after those church grifting escapades. I really do believe he was more than mortified when he realized what he was participating in. Just my opinion, of course.

Years ago I had a bunch of books checked out and almost due with no more extensions when I got stuck back East. Instead of just accepting the late fees I called my library and explained the problem. They were SOO nice about it and extended the due dates until I could get back. I absolutely adore the library, they are good people. Also they are a great place to donate old books--most will either add them to their collection or pass them on to a great charity.

It's kind of amazing we had school as much as we did what with the terrible winter weather. We would go years with only one or two snow days but with snow all winter long. We had "early dismissal" days too when the weather would get so nasty by noontime they would let us go. Now THAT cheer throughout the school when they announced it was hysterical, like the entire school had quaked. Kids are funny, over just a few hours! LOL.

College snow days were fun too. There is nothing more cozy than a steaming mug of hot chocolate, an extra long twin bed, and some bad TV like MTV or LIfetime.

From the Small Business section of the Houston Chronicle: Paid advertising vs organic adv.

Definitions

Paid advertising is the most commonly recognized type of advertising and can vary in form from a billboard to a newspaper advertisement. Organic advertising is akin to modern word of mouth. When engaging in organic advertising, companies take advantage of social networking sites and online search engines, providing clients with information about their products instead of simple sales pitches.

Benefits of Organic Advertising

One of the benefits of organic advertising is that it is inexpensive or free. If a company can mount a large word-of-mouth campaign, it can spread information about its products at essentially no cost. Additionally, consumers may feel less like they are witnessing a sales pitch and more like a friend is recommending a product, potentially increasing the likelihood that they try it.

Kate's personal advertising is quite organic, isn't it? She does something, everyone talks about it. Word of mouth is that it's usually
less than mediocre.

I agree that Jon shouldn't be harassed. However, losing the ability to post a resume publicly is pretty minor, especially in comparison to the long-term effects of filming that his children will suffer for the rest of their lives. Jon is in this position because of the choices he made. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but Jon actively sought out fame and fortune.

LinkedIn is the business equivalent of Facebook. Only a fool would think that a public profile is private or will escape those super-sleuths that have devoted their lives to bringing him down.

I am not a celebrity, and I will not use any social media because of the privacy issues. No big loss.

Maria said... 104

I wonder if organic advertising includes product placement. We know the show did a lot of that. There's no cost to produce, viewers/customers saw a "friend" drinking a juice or playing with a certain toy. That's the only type I can think of that J&K would have been directly involved in.

“I was paid $1,000 per day,” another reality star mom who worked for the same site told The Huffington Post. “Kate might be getting double that but there is no way she would getting any more.”

"Kristina Tipton, the site's spokeswoman, declined to comment on the subject of Gosselin’s new compensation. Gosselin's manager did not return a request for comment."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/28/kate-gosselin-the-stir_n_2568357.html

$1000 per day? Or is that per post? I doubt they would be paying Kate on a daily basis, as she is only going to be posting a weekly blog.

It will be interesting to see what she will be posting about. Since she recycled pictures from her website, she may just end up recycling her old posts too.

I hope the mom and dad stay mediocre and grounded what with their tv show, appearances and notoriety.
The mom had the tups at 27 weeks and to look at them at 2 years old now, they look SO much more robust than the G kids. Now, the Mcghees are bigger people, but the kids just ooze health, which is truly a miracle.
It's just that I predict that they are at the precipice of much larger fame and teeter on the edge of that rabbit hole can be inviting and intoxicating. I hope they don't join the pantheon of failed marriages and broken families that are strewn in the wake of reality television shows.
I hope they always err on the side of caution and close ranks when prying eyeballs want more, more, more.

I'm waiting for Kate to post pictures of yesterday's snow...kids in the driveway up to their waists in snow, with shovels in hand. Of course, she'd have to recycle photos of a previous deep snow and try to pass it off as being taken yesterday when they were home in the rain.

I wonder if organic advertising includes product placement. We know the show did a lot of that. There's no cost to produce, viewers/customers saw a "friend" drinking a juice or playing with a certain toy. That's the only type I can think of that J&K would have been directly involved in.
******
Well, we saw how Kate solicited freebies that she and the kids could help market, per her journal, so I think Kate and Jon both approached companies and took their offers in exchange for product placement on the show.
I remember watching Kate bring lunch out to the garage for the kids and it was more than obvious that one of the boy tups was fed a line about the Juicy Juicy.
"What's that?" he said

Down here in the deep south we rarely see snow. The most I remember was in the late 50's, we actually went to school that morning and dismissed around noon. Oh what a great day that was, snowman, snow angels and lots of snowball fights, we didn't want that day to end.

Christmas 2004 was also a very surprising snow day and it was beautiful. Other than that, we only seem to attract hurricanes.

I have never been up north in winter where it snows for many days and in order to get out the door a shovel is needed. Would love to do that, just once.

It's fun the first snowfall. After that it is hard, backbreaking work that you have to get up early for just to make sure you can back out of your driveway. Some snow is light and fluffy and shovels easy, but we got tons of heavy, tightly packed, wet snow that was like lifting weights just to shovel aside. I am of the age where I really worry about my aging relatives back there having to do all that work and am urging them to hire some young kid for the winter to handle it.

Unless she's going out on the road to publicize the site, I doubt she's being paid this to write a weekly blog. Most likely it's $1000 per article. When you take off taxes and fees for her publicist or whomever is getting her these jobs, it's not much. Of course she does have 8 count 'em 8 deductions.

That's why there are snow blowers. Some folks think of them as toys and can't wait to get out there to play with them!

Come on, Kate. Get out your camera today and take a photo of all that snow in your area - on the trees, shrubbery, piled high against the doors. We want to see it!

Kate can not be making 365K per year for penning 3 paragraphs every week. Being paid $1000/day for a job that is performed in units of writing makes no sense.
C'mon naughty Rob, that was just gratuitous, speculative fluff with no basis whatsoever.
So, hold on! I'm going to agree with Kate and say this "source" has no clue. But, I won't expect to hear her salary from the horse's mouth either.

Snow days-- can be wonderful. There's nothing like making chili, or chicken soup, or beef stew or stuffed cabbage and just smelling it all day.
A fire in the fireplace, dogs making yellow snow and maybe a little vino with a movie all make for great snowy days. Even better if it's a day of cancelled work or school.
But yes, the clean up can be a b*tch with refreezing, and sometimes worrying that heavy accumulating snow will take out trees and shrubs, or collapse a roof.
Looking after your neighbors is especially important.

I totally agree. Without naming the source, we haven't the first clue whether Kate is making less or more. I'm sure every contract is negotiated separately just like most jobs. Just because you interview with someone who looks like you, doesn't mean you might make significantly more or significantly less than them depending on how negotiations go. People make vastly different salaries to do the same job every single day around the country, it's the system we've set up.

DWTS is one of the few shows I've heard of where there isn't much room for negotiation. No matter who you are you get X amount. Probably a good idea for them or there would be constant conflict and turmoil and hundreds of thousands spent on negotiations among all the celebs. Saves all that drama.

You buy them for the next year AFTER the current season has ended. There are always incredible deals on them...same with barbecue grills and power mowers! You can find them for around $200 on sale, and there are electric ones that don't use gas. You don't need the top of the line model. Or you find used ones in the classified section.

That's what I did last year, and we're still waiting to use it! In the long run, it's cheaper than paying someone to plow and shovel for you.

If seven million people are interested in her lame-assed web site just think of what she could bring to a good site like Cafe-Mom!!! She can bring that selling point to the table. Of course she gets big dollars. And so would you and so would I if we could demonstrate that much interest in us.

For Kate the problematical is the follow through. And why CEO's take out big page ads to let people know how done with her they are!

T.I.N.I.C. ~ I see what you're saying, but it boggles my mind to think an interested party wouldn't independently verify her "credentials" before creating any business alliance.

The high figures on her site counter? False, in that each visit, each click results in a huge leap, number-wise.

Her twitter followers might number in the thousands, but many of them are fake. I can't remember who it was that posted an analysis --via some statistical cite that separates inactive/sock accounts from active accounts-- but the data analysis showed what many of us have long suspected: her sock/inactive followers outnumbered her actual "fans" by quite a large percentage.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

I see these numbers differently. First of all, kk has, according to Twitter, approx 127K followers. As for her website, 7 million hits/visitors does not necessarily equate to 7 million different people.

The number of Twitter followers can be be bought and paid for. Companies offer these services. A person can hit a website many times each and every day. Some may be paid, some over the top fans looking to just increase the numbers or anxiously awaiting something new every 10 minutes. I wonder how many times a day, kk may search herself, maybe that is why she is just so busy busy busy.

Another example is the Honey Boo Boo Facebook site. For such a long time her likes hovered around 23,000.
I actually thought it would be fun to watch the numbers. Suddenly and I mean very suddenly(a couple of days) those numbers dramatically increased to over 600,000, and there was no inbetween....staying around 623,000 likes. Today FB shows '688,969 likes · 22,617 talking about this'. This has been the steady number for months.

Followers/ Following, Hits and Likes does not always mean different individuals.

If Kate "bogs" for CafeMom once a month for a year, she still only earns $12K, before taxes. Even if she posted a weekly blog (which I highly doubt), she'd still only be earning $48K/year. OT LHOTP To Marry Up with The West Wing....oops, I mean Mellisa Gilbert is engaged to Timothy Busfield.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Really? She used to tweet about some guy in France she was in love with and used to go visit. Now she's engaged to Timothy Busfield? Odd

For instance I rarely ever heard Temple U in PA. Actually, never. It was just, TEMPLE. I'm sure someone can say well I once heard that with a U, but the fact is, it's not a common way to refer to it especially if you go there.

You're right about that one. It's Temple. Temple U just doesn't work.

Hannah (again!): 'Mommy you're not old. You're only 73.... Ohhhh I mean 37!' [loud laughter from all Gosselin kids] Nice one!

What do you want to bet that these little cute-isms show up in her next blog post?

Melissa Gilbert has had relationship issues her whole life and even with age they still seem dysfunctional. She married some actor she had a pinup of. And her men are always drop...dead....GORGEOUS when really, she's just average looking and has had a lot of plastic surgery. In my opinion this is the first guy she has been with she is actually prettier then, a therapist can analyze that one.

Even Alison in her book said you know I love that girl but I never liked her boyfriends and never "got" her love life.

Correct. It's Temple. You go to Temple, maybe Temple University but never Temple U in PA.
There seems to be someone who pops up here who claims to have all sorts of dirt on Jon and seems to really want to be believed, but never publicly sheds any light on the allegations.

She finds the oddest kid things cute and funny.

The kid stories here alone are a hundred times funnier than a single anecdote she's ever shared.

This "insider" claimed that someone from Temple took Jon to task about not working a "real job" and Jon was basically like well that's my choice, or something like that. I mean, who knows, but I highly, highly doubt the fine people at Temple would be so incredibly rude as to insult and question a speaker there about a completely unrelated subject about their work history. That's just downright uncouth. Not to mention, who would even CARE? He was there to discuss legal issues on reality t.v. Not credible.

Wait what day of the week is her blog post supposed to post? Does she have a designated day? It feels like it's been awhile since this announcement and no new posts.

re: Kate's snow day. Why was school closed- ice?

re: Melissa Gilbert. From her book, it seemed to me ALL her relationships, among her family, peers, boyfriends etc were a bit odd. She did seem insecure about her looks, hence the plastic surgery? Yet at the same time she seems rather conceited. She kind of was a cling-on with Rob Lowe and her first husbands.
