Lance Armstrong: The interview

"Yes, I was a bully. I was a bully in the sense that I tried to control the narrative and if I didn't like what someone said I turned on them."

Lance Armstrong's long, hard fall from his fake reality has been fascinating to watch. Armstrong has been called selfish, narcissistic, and even sociopathic, not unlike many other people who have hit it big. But is he perhaps one of the nastiest celebs we've ever seen?

Oprah's entire interview with the disgraced cyclist can be seen here:

Lance as Pinocchio - love it!

I'm glad the truth is coming out about him and hope that same happens to Kate. Robert Hoffman made a great attempt - perhaps someone out there is following in his footsteps.

Dmasy.....welcome to Central Texas! Cedar fever really is not a fever but an allergic reaction, more like a bad case of hayfever.

Admin, those fire ants sure are nasty! Sorry to hear about your encounter. I have had to take my pants off while outdoors after stepping into a mess of ants. Those bites do take a while to heal.

There are talks here about changing the name of the Lance Armstrong Bikeway. Cycling is huge here and he has lost so many supporters.

Dmasy said... 4

My fire ant experiences are from Alabama. It seems like they have a collective brain. Several swarm onto you, count to 20 or something, and then sting all at once without warning. If you swat wildly to squish them, their tiny little bodies stay attached to your body.

I once dashed across the backyard, ripping clothes off myself, racing to a garden hose. It had to be a comical sight. Those suckers hurt!

Admin, I knew someone who reacted and after each bite site healed there was still a small, permanent freckle.

We have to be careful whom we choose for heroes. How the mighty have fallen. Lance seemed a perfect hero for so many. I hope when he said he is beginning the process of fighting his inner demons and recognized his true character, he speaks the truth.Or is it more for show? I guess time will tell.

Reminds me, although very different stories, of Kate Gosselin. She has not admitted her flaws and deceit nor is she facing the truth.She also scammed and cheated and lied.

Makes me sigh for humanity when a story like Lance's breaks.

Great at post, Admin!

When we moved to our old town 26 years ago, the first thing my then four year old son did was go out and get in a fire ant mound. Not pretty! We try to get them when the mounds first start here. They are easier to see in the new sod.

Hope you feel better soon, Admin!

There's been lots of speculation on Kate's Twitter silence. Yes, she's been quiet when she's working on something, but think about it...how many of those "somethings" have ever panned out? The only show she has ever gotten is with TLC. J&K and then K+8. Nothing else. Ever. She talks about all the new books she's writing, but none have seen the light of day. Her cruise failed, and she was openly mocked during her last TV appearance, which was months go. Nothing has come up since then. Nothing.
Think about it...Kate has also been quiet when she's dealing with trouble. Hoffman mentioned something bad coming up after his book was published. He is also working to get his book back on the market. Both are potential issues that may require her time and attention. I find it odd that she suddenly claims to have the kids in activities. She never allowed that before, and she never had time for it when she was in the public eye. But suddenly, she claims to be shuttling them around to their activities, just like all good parents do. Is she trying to give the impression that she's finally being a good mm? If so, why the sudden change? Unless her parenting is being questioned. She's staying off Twitter when the kids are there, taking them on a trip without cameras, allowing them to participate in extracurricular activities, and even claiming to allow them to see family and friends. She's overcompensating. Too much, too fast. I think there's trouble, and she's feeling pressure to show that she's a good parent. Just my opinion.

Don't really worry about being 'outed' as I am also a boring person busy working and enjoying my family, especially my little red-haired granddaughter. I find what everyone has to say about a myriad of topics interesting, but most of the time I don't feel like I can add much to the conversation. One of the reasons I do lurk is because I am hoping Robert will finally be able to reissue his book and all of America will finally have the information about what a lying, cheating, grifting, child-abusing, narcissistic famewhore Ms. Gosselin is and how she achieved fame by purposely becoming pregnant with sextuplets.

I firmly believe she is already experiencing karma on a small scale, but want to see the full effects.

Hi Anon Because - I personally think that most anything that helps a person feel better is ok. Also, about K8s activities. My ex and his wife were being jerks about bringing my daughter to her soccer games and to her middle school track meets and I got the order modified that they either had to bring her or allow me to bring her. There may have been some custody modification by Jon to force K8 to allow the kids to do some activities.

Interesting I am "blamed" for outings when I had nothing to do with the facebook group, but I can take a hit. I can't please everyone. When I go on moderation, one group complains, off, another group complains. You simply cannot have a blog with this many comments and expect everyone will be happy or you will drive yourself NUTS.

Which post was that? If you are Heather, I gave you multiple warnings and then kindly explained to you why we didn't let it go through (and by the way it was a blog staff who rejected it while I was out of town, not me, for the record, though I agreed with it.) But if another blog is more your style, that's okay. I felt i was very kind, patient and tolerant of all that. If you are not Heather, kindly tell me which post was rejected and I will kindly tell you why and we can all still be friends! :)

As for people's opinions not accepted, I will never tell people here they can't answer very firmly someone calling an entire group of people lazy or disgusting or all the unreal things said. If anything, I saw much more disrespect in the lumping of these groups than of the more level headed people trying to say, wait a minute here. You can't come here trying to lump millions of people into one thing and expect people to say oh ok cool I get ya girlfriend!

Lance Armstrong did blood transfusions to cnceal his doping but then stated he didn't think his system was that sophisticated. He took 'partial' blame for so many things.I've never seen anyone mince words so much as he did throughout that entire interview.

If he is truly in this to 'right' this wrong then he's not convincing many people. You could almost believe there's a small human side to him until you remember he viciously went after anyone who accused him of the very thing he was doing. If you sue someone and you know you are guilty then you are actually stealing the monies from which you recieve.

He truly believes he deserves another shot at this in due time.Only a narcissistic sociopath would think like this.He's going to need all the luck he can get.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 36

Working Woman you're welcome. By the way someone posted last night someone said I am you! I love it! I'm flattered. I'm not you though, for the record! Or am I???? hehe

Ellie, I COMPLETELY agree. I don't want to hear his limping in half-remorse half-apologies. He really, really hurt a lot of people. We're not talking about a little mistake or something open to debate hard to say who to blame. He HURT people, PERIOD. And honestly, he should just make amends to each and every one privately. This interview thing is so ego-mania self serving. Oprah? Seriously? He is not sorry, not one bit. I think in many ways, he is much worse than Kate. At least she never actually followed through with suing those who were speaking the truth about her. Nothing ever came of suing Robert. She just said no comment. Yeah there were a few little cease and desist letters that never went anywhere and TLC did sue Jon, but after that, she's sort of laid low.

At the end of the day maybe she probably should have just said no comment IF it were true. What else can you say? If she were Lance, she would have said a heck of a lot more AND sued.

Anonymous said... 37

Michael Phelps smoked pot. That makes him a criminal. Where's the outcry about that? He broke the law pure and simple.

Telling the Truth about a crime doesnt make the crime OK

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 38

Michael Phelps owned up to it, he never lied about it, and was sorry. He then accepted his punishment for it, a three month suspension. He never sued anyone. He has been drug testing clean ever since. And since pot can show up on a drug test as long as several months later, we can be fairly sure he's clean. And honestly, pot is pot. Most young people try it at some point and then move on. It's nowhere near the same as performance enhancing, calculated, systematic injections and BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS like Lance did.

It was pot a few times, and it wasn't during a RACE, so therefore didn't affect his performance. Pot isn't going to affect your performance anyway or give you any advantage. All it will do is make you not want to go to practice and instead smoke more, if anything. Which is exactly what it did to him. It hurt, not helped him.

Actually, Michael Phelps is a perfect example of how you can make a mistake, but as long as you own up to it and fix it and serve your punishment for it and try hard to never do it again, you can easily recover from it. Michael called the incident a learning experience. He has more introspection in his little finger than Lance could ever hope for.

That said, I don't think anyone should worship Michael as a hero either. But it's not the same situation at all.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 40

Actually it begs the question, had Lance immediately owned up to what he was doing the second he was called out, as Michael did, and had he immediately accepted the consequences, was sorry, and never did it again, would we be here?

I don't think so. I think he could have recovered from it, easily, I really do. He might even have been able to spin it as a victim, a victim of this cruel world of getting ahead, but he's learned his lesson and now is an outspoken critic of that whole thing. Had he played his cards differently this could have had a completely different result. Instead his sociopathic self wanted to see if he could get away with it. I think he'd still be cycling and still have a booming charity.

I used to have a begrudging degree of respect for that one in particular but not anymore as she is an enabler. There is just something about the composition of her tweets like they are textbook perfect with all the tweet lingo yet so shallow and empty. Kate has been M.I.A. during the month of January and going into February before. She is probably getting some work done because instead of looking like almost 38 she looks like almost 48. She'll come out just in time for her Spring pictures that she will sell for whatever they give her.

aeduko said... 45

My husband follows professional cycling, and I did too during Lance's tour days. I know all the cyclists from the 1990s when the doping started, and I do have a few things to say about it.

First, no one liked Lance because he is/was an arrogant prick. But a very talented arrogant prick. His athletic abilities are absolutely off the charts; I believe his lung capacity is incredibly over the average person's. So along with all that came an incredible competitiveness (along with the arrogance -- not a good combo)and he worked harder than just about anyone else. His training was legendary.

Second, EVERYONE who was anyone in cycling doped. I could list off names for you, but most of you wouldn't know who I was talking about. Suffice it to say that just about every winner of the Tour de France in the past 15 or 20 years has been busted for doping at least once. Maybe not during the actual Tour, but they were busted. When Lance's titles are taken away, they're going to have a hard time finding people to fill the virtual podium.

Third, given that environment, doping is/was endemic. The manager of Lance's team was involved in doping on another team. Another rider used a horse vet. Yep, a horse vet. A former Tour winner, then coaching another team, was busted and lost his Tour title. I mean, they were ALL doping. Marco Pantani either had an accidental overdose or committed suicide after his doping scandal.

Fourth, because of Lance's story (cancer after being World Champion at age 21, coming back when no one thought he could be competitive, let alone win) he was incredibly marketable and he took advantage of it. That Livestrong campaign was absolutely brilliant.

Fifth, as everyone got busted, they were offered deals to offer Lance up on a platter. As he hadn't exactly been nice to everyone, they all pretty much did. Until finally, it caught up to him.

Am I defending him? No, not really. We all thought he doped, but that he was just better at it than everyone else. And I think that for him to have lasted this long before coming clean, makes that point. He didn't do anything everyone else wasn't doing. He was just the highest profile target.

The bigger issue is the sport of professional cycling. They need to make changes.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 46

aeduko good to see you by the way. Thanks for your husband's perspective.

At the risk of sounding blase about substance abuse or misuse or enhancement, I really don't care about the doping. I don't. I get that everyone does it, just like every kid, or most, do marijuana. Come on, they do, you know they do. It doesn't hurt you or kill you, it enhances you like eating the right diet enhances you. I don't care about the doping, I care about the lies and how he hurt people with the lies.

Rules are rules and lies are lies. Yes, cycling needs to be changed. Maybe it will be changed to allow controlled doping, so be it. The point is, follow the rules of the sport you signed up for or don't play, and you sure don't get to disregard the rules then SUE other people who said you did.

TxBR549Iam said... 47

Isn't that the truth, Working Woman. I truly admire Dr. King. He lived and died fighting for all people.

When it comes to protesting of fighting for a cause, I am a true believer in one standing up and speaking out for their constitutional rights! I have done so since my college days.

As for smoking pot, I see no problem there. And I don't view it as a 'gateway drug'. I don't think I have ever seen or read about a case of a deadly accident caused by being under the influence of pot.

As for breaking the law...who has never gone over the speed limit (caught or not, you have broken the law.) Have you ever talked or texted on the phone while driving? If so, in many places, you have broken the law. Have you ever jaywalked? Have you ever not placed an item for checkout and walked out, not paying, unintentionally? That is shoplifting. And the list goes on.

We all make mistakes. Some are criminal although not intentional or with total disregard for the law. Some simple, some complex. Some question a person's character, values and morals, some do not.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 48

And that's the thing, if Michael Phelps wants to smoke pot, he can. But it's in his rules for swimming, so he can't. So he can come out to one of the states that allows it and smoke it to his heart's content. Or just close his door and smoke it to his heart's content, few states would ever bother to go after him. Same with Lance. If he wants to dope on his own time so he can peddle really fast, have at it. But NOT when he's signed up for a race with rules that say you can't.

You have to wear a helmet when you play football or you get taken off the field. If you don't want to wear a helmet, no problem, but you have to play football in your own backyard then with your brothers.

By the way, I support legalizing marijuana, but I don't think the debate is marijuana and wouldn't want to start a flame war. The issue is, what are the rules of your sport, did you break them, and how did you handle it when you broke them.

I didn't really understand the post about Phelps smoking pot. Certainly, no one would think what Armstrong did is comparable to smoking pot. Armstrong went to extremes, including illegal means, to win. Phelps relaxed with friends and lit a joint. Pot will not give anyone an edge in competition, unless it's a "rlax off".

Admin, you do an amazing job here. Never doubt that. I don't even notice those who have left to form their own group, but hope they will still stop by to visit.

Kate is fading into obscurity. That is her worst punishment - to be just a "mediocre" person once again.

I want to say one more thing about weight/judging a book by its cover/what makes a person valuable and worthy of love and acceptance. I have been young, slim and pretty (not to mention vain and thoughtless); I have been 20 lbs heavy and obsessed with losing weight (and not appreciative of my healthy body); I have been a tired new mom totally disgusted with my "imperfect" changed body (disregarding that it was this body that provided safe haven for my unborn child and nurishment, comfort and love to my newborn). I have let society tell me I am lazy, a drain on resources, not worthy of common courtesy or respect.

All these journeys have led me to where I am today, in my early 50's. I think my own youthful foolishness and later struggles have helped me develop compassion for those who might be considered less worthy by society. I hope my own experiences have made me a better person and I try to get to know a person before I decide if they are lazy or not, nice or shallow, admirable or immoral.

Pity Party said... 51

I am not into cycling at all but from what I have gathered since this all started is that maybe it is not so much the rules and or disregard for rules inasmuch as it the course itself. Who can cycle/race 100-200 plus miles per day, up and down mountains with 1 day of rest out of 21 for thousands of miles to virtually encircle the entire country of France? Apparently, no one, since they all appeared to have been doping. Why expect someone to do something that in a world without doping, might be considered humanly impossible (although there might be very few exceptions but certainly not hundreds). Seems to me like a blind eye was turned for a very long time until the public outcry increased to the point it had to be addressed. I see it as a huge money-making enterprise. I think they said Lance may have to pay back the 10 million dollar purse he took home for his winnings and that is pre-2005. I am not in any sense trying to say that I know anything about cycling, as I do not see it as a talent within itself (anyone can ride a bicycle) but more a test of strategy, endurance, and stamina against all odds. Just an objective response from someone who really doesn't have a horse in the race as I don't know one cyclist from another. The only reason I would even know of him is that he developed such a high profile over the years because he WON every single race for a long period of time.

Millicent, I was pretty stick thin until maybe age 25. I have worked out and eaten right my whole life, but, my weight has not always been the same. I'm still by all accounts normal, perhaps even still thin. But I'm 15 pounds heavier than I used to be. Nothing changed except I got older and gained 15 pounds. My character has stayed the same. My habits have stayed the same. My weight has changed. Whether it's 15 pounds you gain or perhaps much more, your character isn't necessarily changing whatsoever.

Sometimes people take a break and if it's for this private group to get to know one another, that's fine.The discussions seem to moving along, many PT as Kate is just not cutting it, lol.

Roll on, 15 Minutes and our dear Admin!

No, it's not not winning itself that is a problem. Sports would be rather silly if people weren't motivated to win. The problem is winning AT ALL COSTS, even if you have to lie, steal, cheat and hurt others.

Plenty of sports figures pick up the ball and bat every day, are in it to win it, but never HURT anyone.

Lance hurt people. Badly. There is a line when it comes to winning, and he crossed so far over it there's no defending it.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 62

I appreciate the "allegiance" but it's not necessary. Post here if you want, don't post if you don't want, feel free to check out other neighborhoods, it's all okay. It's not that I don't miss you, but I don't hold grudges if people feel they need a break or something else fulfills their needs, and they're always welcome back if that changes. Sometimes certain vibes work and sometimes they don't, at different times at different stages. In other words I don't want anyone thinking I'm mad if people feel they need something different. We will be here waiting if you change your mind.

I haven't visited RWA but don't they post names? Not making a comment one way or the other about that, but I'm trying to figure out why one leaves in a huff over "outings" here only to go to another blog where there are outings. Help me understand.

Yes, they do but it's couched in 'well, that other blog outed us so we're just reciprocating.' I don't understand it, I don't understand the hate. the constant copy and pasting of comments from other blogs and then discussing them to death.I hope that any regulars who are now posting there think to look in the archives and see what's gone on.

I wonder if Kate has realized all the dirty goings-on that have been taking place on both sides for so very long. If she hasn't, she needs to. Some of these people (on both sides) are so nasty and will go to any lengths to discredit someone. It is truly sick.

This is the ONLY blog I trust and I read here every day but seldom post. Some people here I like very much and others I just think are looking for attention, but that's OK. We all need attention...

I think whatever happened over the holidays had a huge effect on Kate and hence her lack of attention to twitter. Who knows, maybe she WAS with her real family and somebody talked some sense into her...We can only hope!

That is fair and kind and hopeful. We "haters" would rejoice if Kate's life took such a positive turn. That would be a success story for the children and for Kate herself.

I've wondered that, too. She's said she blocks those on Twitter she doesn't care for but she still has to see some of those terrible tweets, from both sides, when they're retweeted. She had many opportunities to ask tweeters to calm down, stop tweeting in such a vile manner, stop discussing the kids and Jon and their private business, but she never has. At times she seemed to encourage them. I've also thought that both sides email her with their agendas, not that she has time to check her email. Busy, busy!

Nice to see you Sharon :)

Sharon, I agree with Dmasy. It would be great if Kate was rethinking the choices she made previously. It would be a win-win all around, especially for the kids.

Watched the Oprah interview last week and my opinion is that he is even more or an arrogant prick than I thought he was. I thought his answers were very calculated and that he was trying to look sorry without being sorry. He made millions of dollars off of lying. My husband is convinced that his doping caused his cancer. Even though Lance said he didn't think it did, he doesn't have proof that it didn't. I agree with you admin. that if he had admitted to the doping when he was first accused, people would have forgiven him. Look at pitcher, Andy Pettite of the Yankees. He admitted to using HGH to help with an injury. People appreciated the fact that he admitted it. Then you have Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa and Mark McGuire. People don't like them because they've denied they've doped. Or they've pleaded the fifth. With regard to Lance saying it was the culture of the sport, I see that as an excuse. I find it hard to believe that everyone was doing it. And Lance proved it can be done while you're clean. The first Tour de France he did after his comeback, he placed third. It wasn't first but that was damn good. If the culture of the sport is that you have to dope to win, then the sport should be banned.

Besides the people he screwed over, I really feel bad for his kids. It's going to be hard growing up with that legacy.

I have been lurking and posting occasionally because I've just been busy with life. We've been moving my mom to new digs and I've got Girl Scout cookie sales coming up. In addition, the kids have in home ABA now after school two days a week and OT one day a week, so I, like Kate apparently, am doing the running around bit.

Not to mention we have a flea infestation going on right now - erg. I'm trying something new - Diatomaceous Earth. I'll let you all know how it works when I have more data. It's not fair either - I seem to be the one the little buggers have a taste for, after our dear pooch and cat.

I wasn't here for the big blow up - people's identities were outed? Anyone care to explain for those of us who missed it?

Frankly, I'm enjoying the conversations here. I like the topics that have been posted and I enjoy not having to scan through so many comments. As has been stated, I think there just really isn't all that much Kate news (a good thing, IMO) and this blog is evolving towards a more general discussion of reality television and the price of celebrity. Some people, like myself, enjoy that - it's one of the things I've always liked about this blog - and other people just want to keep focusing on Kate (more power to them if that's their thing).

Keep up the good work, Admin and moderators.

***********************************************

Hi Dmasy. My son-in-law is red-haired and there were 1 or 2 redheads on my side of the family, so we're pretty sure she belongs to us. She does draw a lot of attention, very verbal, recently turned 4. She was the first baby diagnosed with a Biotin deficiency at birth in the state of Missouri so has to take a supplement for that. Along with that & the DHA + genetics?, we have one very smart child on her hands. She can debate and argue like nobody's business, but still likes to cuddle with her parents and grandma. Now if I could just get me a red-headed grandson. . .

I too think something happened to Kate over the holidays and would like to place my bet on a modification order obtained by Jon restricting her mention of the kid's specific activities on Twitter. And maybe, just maybe, Robert is getting ready to re-release his book. Whatever it is, I know I'm enjoying the quiet.

Seems to me we might've talked the Lance Armstrong debacle to death, but I liked this blog entry and thought I'd share it here, on the off-chance you might enjoy it, too.

The Lesson We Can All Learn From Lance Armstrong Now (Via ElephantJournal.com)

"...Take away truth and all you have left is shadows.

Armstrong doesn’t yet get that though. He says he’s sorry, as if those two words alone have some kind of redemptive power. They don’t. They’re just words. And as much as I’d like to believe that words alone have power, they don’t. Without Truth behind them they’re just words.

I very much doubt that his newfound humility is over the wrongs that he’s done. I think he’s sorry that he got caught, and sorry that everything he lied and cheated and abused so hard for is in jeopardy.

So let him be sorry, ban him for life, take away the millions he (more or less) stole, and let’s move on, leaving him to face his shadows.

And he will face those shadows—he’ll have no choice, because the truth always catches up. It’s really all there is, and we can escape it for a while but it’s like trying to swim against the river:

The river (truth) always Wins.

In the book Game Change the author was VERY hard on Obama, and everyone. But, the one thing the book did say is that Barrack and Michelle were constantly, I mean constantly, worrying about the girls and how they would handle a race for the White House and constantly trying to rearrange schedules to maintain their Sundays free, which were traditionally reserved for just family time. And that basically they fought all the time with advisers and whatnot over balancing time with the family.

They made valiant efforts to put the girls first. I'm sure it hasn't been perfect but it has been their priority.

I don't always agree with you Admin but you have done a great job running this blog. What everyone fails to mention is the same "outting" posts that were appearing here also appeared at the RWA blog too and were often left up for several hours.

I agree with Admin, people who do the outing do it because they want to see people crying and shaking on their patios. No way they will ever do that to me. I don't care if they post a picture of my butt up with wide load pasted across it, they won't get any reaction from me. The want drama and if you don't give it to them they will eventually find a new target or they will cross the line and go to jail.

InAgreement said... 104

And one other thing and I will stop. When they accuse you of posting with different names and such and talking to yourself it's because it's what they do!

I respect both 15 Minutes and RWA.... any blog that has the guts to call Kate out on her crap is great, in my book. And it has, for the most part, been a lot of fun here. I really appreciate it.

But I think it's time for me to take a much-needed break. Even though IMO the sheeple who did the outing is the only one to blame, I feel sad that so many posters started to feel unsafe and were distressed by what was going on. For the first time ever, I looked over at RWA...a lot of people are unhappy about what transpired and it's very unfortunate. It was very hard to watch and did me in for a while with the blogs.

I will for sure continue to read occasionally and will post again eventually. I just at least need a break. Thank you so much to admin and all of the wonderful posters here, past and present. You have made me laugh many times and I have appreciated having a place to visit to vent and talk about pretty much anything.

Appreciate it, InAgreement....whoever you are. :)

I tried not to overreact or do anything drastic in response to the outings not because I didn't care, not because I wanted to see people outed, not because I wasn't taking it seriously, not because I'm arrogant or a young Kate and all the other nasty things I'm accused of, but rather, I tried to keep things defused and low key and "it doesn't bother me!" because THEY WANTED A REACTION and I was trying not to give it to them. That's it, nothing more, nothing less.

Some of the people from the FB group have emailed me. They say although they were a bit annoyed with it all, they are fine now and enjoying planning the gathering. If they are doing okay and moving on, I'm happy to hear it and would love to try to put that chapter behind us and try to move on too. I'm not sure the outrage is even coming from anyone that was outed. Anyway talk about shooting the messenger. Shouldn't the outrage be toward Mark Zuckerberg for making people believe that a "private" group was actually PRIVATE? Or at least at those who set it up? I had nothing to do with it. Anyway, moving on. I'm finally getting to the Casey Anthony movie, it's very well done. The acting is decent.

Because the name I was posting with, Parker, apparently is similar to one of the sheeple who tweets, the posters there added 2+2 and got 5 and I was vilified as only posting to stir the pot. They were sure that's who I was. I was cursed at, called names. I'm not a sheeple and in my final post there tried to explain that. I explained where the name came from (my aunt had been discussing Parker House rolls she had in her assisted living home). My post was removed within minutes and my isp was banned. So much for being open-minded! This is what both non-fans and fans do, they get an idea in their heads and stick with it, even when shown they're wrong.

LOL @ your Elaine comment! I was somewhat disappointed in Lincoln. If they had cut about 30 minutes out of it, I think it would have flowed better and been more cohesive. I did like some of the performances - Sally Field, James Spader, even Daniel Day Lewis. Hoping to see more of the Oscar-nominated movies this weekend. Saw Zero Dark Thirty Saturday and loved it. JoyinVirginia said... 122

Jane Doe, yes, you are Elaine, just like with The English Patient! If Elaine saw Lincoln, she would probably wonder what all the fuss was too!
I love love love Lincoln and the reason it is getting awards is the authenticity of the historical re-creation. Daniel Day-Lewis IS Lincoln. Spielberg, screenwriter Tony Kushner, and author Doris Kerns-Goodwin came to Richmond for a community forum event a few weeks ago, and it was televised later. Spielberg said that after the final scenes, the death of Lincoln, were filmed, he went to Daniel Day-Lewis trailer to thank him and, for the first time in the ENTIRE FOUR MONTHS OF FILMING, Day-Lewis spoke in his own voice. Spielberg said that was one of the most affecting moments in the entire production for him.
Spielberg said Daniel Day-Lewis made everyone else perform to a higher standard. Spielberg said he wrote a SUIT AND TIE to the set EVERY DAY because it would have been disrespectful for him as a director to show up as a schlub in a baseball cap, when the actors were so dedicated to bringing their characters to life.
The other outstanding thing about the film is the authenticity. It was filmed in old buildings, not on Hollywood sets. In Petersburg you can stand in Old Town and every building you are looking at existed in Civil War times. All they had to do was bring in dirt to cover paved roads, and digitally remove power lines.
One funny story from the forum, one day the present governor of Virginia was surprised to return home to the governors mansion (that has been continually occupied for 200+ years) to be met by Union soldiers in the yard, and his wife entertaining President Lincoln in the kitchen.
I am a total geek about the movie! Can you tell? You are not alone, I have friends who don't understand what all the fuss is about. Me and dh and younger dd, we loved it. Older dd has no interest in it at all.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 123

I am hopelessly behind on Oscar movies. I mean hopeless. I have a lot of work to catch up on hehe. I've only seen Lincoln and Beasts.

I liked Lincoln but I didn't LOVE it like I've loved some of Speilberg's other films and I can't put my finger on why. I think part of it was it seemed to lack the depth of emotion that a film like Saving Private Ryan had throughout it. There were a few emotional moments but most of the film rang sort of hallow to me. The last several offerings from Speilberg have felt the same to me, a lot of people are saying he's losing his touch, which would be sad. However, I really did love that scene with Adam Driver. :)

Beasts was not my kind of film, as it was a fantasy, but I was so entranced by the little girl's performance it kept me interested.

Admin..

Regarding Lincoln. I read the book it is based on and I think it lacked a lot of depth because the whole first part of the book was left out regarding how Lincoln won the presidency and how his team of rivals came to be. The back story leading up to the movie was the best part of the book.

Kelly, interesting, maybe that's it.

Team of Rivals is on my list of books to read. I just finished We Need to Talk about Kevin, thanks to the recommendations here. Haunting.

Hope you comment in the future Working Woman. I enjoy your posts.

Who else has read her books -- other recommendations? Thanks.

I liked Lincoln. My hubby, who is impressed by nothing, loved it. I loved BOTSW. It's a very symbolic movie and I love that kind of mental challenge. Not for everyone, though.

Haven't seen the others. I'll wait for DVD . It's just too comfy watching films in my pjs!

This blog has been great and I respect RWA as well...I appreciate any blog that has the courage to call Kate out on everything. So, thank you very much.

But I am taking a bit of a break from blogs for a while. I have a lot going on and it's been hard to see some regulars upset. But, I appreciate everything and will post again eventually.

Just need a break.

You ladies are wonderful and it has been great posting with you. Wishing you all the best. :-)

Oh wow, Kelly, this totally makes sense! I liked the movie, but didn't love it. It felt shallow somehow, and not fully formed. In truth, I felt manipulated at times. Maybe this additional material would've given those scenes a better framework from which to hang.

I enjoyed Lionel Shriver's "Kevin" and felt drained , as well- so chilling and yet so real.
Great material for a book club. I also got the DVD- which is excellent.

I did not order any other books of hers- the subject matter did not appeal to me- but please let me know if they are as riveting as "Kevin" :)

Hey all,

First off, I'd like to sincerely apologize for "getting my panties in a bunch" and "taking my ball and going home" back in December.

I have to admit that I'm quite thin skinned, hence why I rarely take on any controversy or participate in controversial posts.

Please know that I was not upset with anyone other than myself for being a piss-ant...is that a word? Honestly, I was more embarrassed than anything and the longer I went without posting, the harder it was to know what to say, so I've just been reading since.

Anyway, I still think this is a great blog and the regular posters are awesome people who I can easily see myself chatting with over coffee or a glass of vino in real life.

Again, I sincerely apologize to anyone who thought they had offended me or hurt my feelings. I assure you that's not the case at all.

Aside from the embarrassment keeping me away, it's been a rough start to the New Year. On the fourth, BF and I took Guinness, her dog whom I've often sat for while she was away, to the animal hospital to send him off to the Rainbow Bridge. He was an old guy and this winter was particularly rough on him, by the end he could barely get around on his own.

It was heart breaking and very difficult to try and not have it set the tone for the year. It's so hard to view death as a beginning and not an end.

Anyway, I'm not sure what's going on here with the supposed "mass exodus" and I wasn't even aware of these "outings".

To this particular topic though, I have to say I agree with Admin that it's not so much about the "doping" itself, but that Lance Armstrong went to such lengths to maintain his deception.

Seriously, how brazen do you have to be to actually hire a lawyer to SUE people who are telling the truth?

What does THAT say about his character? A heck of a lot, I think. Worse is that he still thinks he deserves to compete professionally, OMG!

What colour is the sky in his world? (My guess is that it's green...the colour of money. Your money mind you, not the monopoly money we play with...hehe, a Canadian joke.)

Anyway, if you all haven't written me off, I'd like to come back and play if you'll have me.

:)

Never subscribed to Netflix or any of the streaming movie sites but received Apple tv for Xmas and love it! Joined Netflix and have a monster of a queue, you can view photos easily on the tv, join Hulu, access iTunes and much more. It's only $99 and was a piece of cake to install. Recommended!!

We're definitely all going to be watching TV on the net eventually. I just hate to think what's going to happen to our bills when we do and the isps all start charging by the amount of bandwidth we use.

Yeah, I agree! If I hadn't been given Apple TV, I wouldn't have bought it but gosh, it's nice! Netflix doesn't always have the shows I want, but iTunes usually does for not a big fee. Wireless, streaming movies and television seem to be the way we're headed.

Hi everyone. I've returned from the land of the lost.

I'd returned here some time ago and was catching up on Admin's entries and came to the one about Catfish. I'd never heard of this movie and went to investigate...and somehow I landed in the world of internet hoaxes. There are entire blogospheres related to internet hoaxes....and I was lost for weeks. There was one hoax in particular that was fascinating...and similar to this recent football scandal...a romance scam. A very real and successful woman was hoaxed/scammed into believing she was in love with and engaged to an imaginary man. She had her own blog giving every detail of how she was scammed and it had really devastated her life. There was even a magazine article about it I was able to read.

That led me to medical hoaxes (collecting for imaginary sick/dying people) and that led me to mommy-blogging and the mommy blogger wars. I'd had NO idea any of this stuff even existed. I was lost for weeks just in the blogosphere related to one particular mommy-blogger war. There was even a "without pity" type of blog....with fans versus anti-fans (of this particular mommy-blogger). There are blogs for every possible thing imaginable...I'd never realized that.

You know, when you're 60 years old.....the internet is like a huge wonderland. You simply click on a link and can get lost for weeks. It's almost like a time-machine...only you don't push buttons and travel in time....you click links and end up in all sorts of places you've never heard about or would ever have known existed.

At any rate...I was off on a journey for many weeks...thanks to Catfish...and I see I missed a LOT.
Nice to see everyone. :)

~~~~~~~~~
I know what you mean. Once, by clicking on links, I got lost in the world of cutters and anorexics. I was horrified to learn there were blogs with young girls giving each other advice on how to hide their anorexia behavior from others....even encouraging that behavior!! It is one thing to vaguely know that some people cut themselves, and some suffer from the eating disorder, and a totally different thing to find yourself (old enough to be the mother or grandmother) reading the 'private' conversations between those with the disorder!!
Add me to that list as well. I haven't been to the movie theater in a very long time. I am spoiled by Netflix and don't mind waiting for movies to be released in order to see them from the comfort of my couch. I'm also more of a tv-show viewer - maybe it's something to do with one-hour segments.
I obviously have missed something here too, where did Auntie Ann Go, was she one of the posters who left?
I found it difficult to watch the Lance Armstrong interview because it was framed in an entertainment format. Oprah did her job, but it felt like a business deal to me. She needed ratings, he needed her to show him as worthy of forgiveness, she got the ratings, he still looked disingenuous.
Admin....I saw Amour yesterday, and wanted to love it, but left wondering why it has been nominated over Rust and Bone (if French films are being included). Still wondering why The Impossible didn't get nominated :-(
Millicent said... 156
Sheri - welcome back. I am sorry to hear of your friend's dog. It's so hard to lose a beloved pet. We have two cats. The oldest was an "only cat" for several years, but then we found a little starving kitten and took him in too. He now big and healthy, but also a scaredy cat and neurotic. The only humans he trusts are my son and I, and if we go away overnight, he sometimes will pee on the couch. I believe it's not in anger but because he's so nervous when we are gone too long. You can imagine how hard it is to go on a week's vacation!
Our older cat is in good health, but I dread the day when we have to send her on her peaceful way. Not only will we miss her terribly, our nervous fellow will probably have a breakdown without his adopted mama.
Again, welcome back. :)
Yes! That's a good one! I read Melissa Gilberts, Melissa Sue Anderson's, and Allison's. Allison's was the best. I was shocked at what she went through as a child. She's really funny and her tweets are awesome. She tweeted the first page of the Sandusky indictment 140 characters at at time.
Very strange that "can do Kate" would admit that so far 2013 is beating her...up. It must be a bitch to actually have to put effort into whatever project she's got going on.
And anyone working around or with her is probably feeling it worse.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 177
I feel like Kate is finally acting like a real woman with no nanny 24/7. In other words these kids are kicking her ass. No time for tweeting stupid platitudes or responding to obsessed fans. No time for photos or prancing off to NYC or having Deanna over. There is no time. She has kids now. Just one theory.
I do hope all this silence is because she's being more attentive to the kids' needs.
Formerly Duped said... 178
I read Prairie Bitch, pretty good. Also Melissa Sue's, Melissa Francis', and Melissa Gilbert's books!
I thought a little of what Alison said was a bit snarky but I was a Prairie fan. Melissa G's was rather self-promoting and Melissa Sue's went by scenes in the show- odd but effective. Maybe the Carrie twins will write one soon! It seems no one liked Melissa Sue but she seems pretty nice in her book and does not diss the others.All of them, I would say, had difficult relationships with their mothers.
The kids may be kicking her ass, and she may be nannyless, BUT they are still at school everyday for several hours, and I doubt she has given up the housework helpers. So the almost silence from the Twitter thumbs is a mystery. Moving fast and working hard, hah.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 181
Allison's mother was the voice of Gumby and Casper the Ghost and a bunch of other characters and was very busy all the time and consumed with her career. Allison said she would literally run across blocks to get from one studio to the next, double booking herself.
Anyway, Allison really wanted to join Girl Scouts and the troop expected that if you joined scouts your mom would help out with the crafts and meetings and camping trips. Allison's mom sat her down and said look honey I'm just not the SCOUT type. I'm sorry but I don't think we should sign up for this.
I felt so sorry for Allison at 6. What the hell? I don't care if you're not the scout "type," your daughter wants to do it. She could at least TRY. She sounds like a very selfish woman. It reminds me a lot of Kate, I'm not the camping "type" so, sorry kids, you can't have any fun.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 182
Well there WAS that Mercedes van sighting on Sunday, proving that at least someone is scuttering the kids around town. Although she could be working too, time will tell. Actually taking care of eight kids BY YOURSELF is going to keep you busy even with them in school the issue is Kate has never had to do it by herself at least as far as she has ever admitted.
#HIK!
Meagler said... 183
...ooorrrr.....
Kate posts picture of light fixture broken on floor, doesnt know how its happening and tweets that her house is falling apart. This on the heels of a tell all about how she abused her kids when they were younger.
We all know that kate has had lawyers stop the press's on Robert's book. If this is all being bashed around in the courts, it doesnt look very good to the judge when you have a house falling apart and you are trying to tell a judge, you would never hurt your kids!
I was one of the ones who thought perhaps she had gone to France for New Years.. I am still on the fence. Something is going on at the MCMansion.. it isnt the usual 8 count em 8 routine! I truly wish it was that she had fallen off of the radar, because if it was, she would be frantically trying to hold onto her one last shred of hope and glory with her tweeties, and that sadly has not happened...yet..
FYI said... 184
I too hope that Kate's silence is due to her being more involved with the kids, but I must say I'm skeptical. She was a twittering fool on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day(over 65 tweets) and then she supposedly goes away,comes back and is basically on twitter silence(49 tweets since Jan.1).
Perhaps the kids have been complaining about how much time she spends on twitter and not with them, and it finally sunk in. Something had to happen that caused her to bring her twittering to an almost complete halt. I think her excuse of being so busy and working fast and hard, it just that-an excuse. She's trying to let her tweeties down easy and of course, they'll forgive her for not tweeting because she's busy being the Supermom they imagine her to be.
I've also noticed that when she does tweet her token tweet, her tweeties aren't jumping all over the place to tweet her back.
Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 185
IF they went to France or some other filmed vacation over Christmas, then afterward, back home, they would film all the interviews. Like around about now. So, if that is one of the theories, the "busy busy busy" thing adds up. There are interviews to film, editing to consult with if she is a "producer" (LOL), voiceovers to do, all that jazz. Post production is a busy time.
I hope though it's that someone had an intervention with her, told her to get her butt of twitter and go spend time with her kids. Be a mother.
Weird!
