Oscar Round-up

Searching for Sugarman for the win

Practically the only good "reality T.V." left these days comes in the form of documentaries, and five of the best are up for Best Documentary Feature on Sunday night at the Oscars. Many are available on demand streaming if you want to check them out yourself in time for the show. Here's our mini reviews and our pick for the winner.

The Gatekeepers. (coming soon on Netflix) Former members of Israel's counter-terrorism forces discuss various defensive efforts through the decades. The documentary is heavy on talking heads but the history is engrossing.

The Oscars, Sun. on ABC
How to Survive a Plague (Netflix streaming, Amazon) and The Invisible War (Netflix streamingAmazonare both about controversial issues, AIDS activism, and women assaulted in the military. Both films tackle highly charged subjects with sensitivity and insight. The Invisible War in particular is difficult to watch, though important.

Plague is not only a comprehensive history of AIDs activism in the 80's and 90's, but also a study of the psychology behind large social change--where ACT UP went right, where they went wrong, and why people who all basically had the same righteous goal just couldn't get along with each other. Some of the old footage the film digs up is engrossing, especially the ashes spread on the White House lawn, and a highly charged moment where a young Bill Clinton takes an activist to task for his personal attacks, scolding him for distracting from the real goal. Never debate a Rhodes scholar, the activist jokes afterward. Thirty years later the film tracks down the most famous of the activists, many who are still alive. The "goodness" and "humanity" the activists showed the world is "mind boggling," reflects one today. If Sugarman doesn't win, Plague should.

5 Broken Cameras  (Netflix streamingAmazon) offers an unique perspective on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, shot by an average Palestinian citizen who bought a camera to film his new son, but ended up turning the lens on the streets of his home turf. As the conflict escalates, his cameras become damaged one by one. Hence the title. Without a good understanding of this part of the world, Cameras can get confusing at times, and be forewarned, there's subtitles to follow as well.

Our pick for the winner: Searching for Sugarman.  (NetflixAmazonWhat if you were famous and didn't even know it? We want Sugarman to get the trophy tonight, and finally get the recognition stolen from him for so long, and apparently so do many other Oscar predictors.

The compelling aspect of this film is the South African fans who catapulted a gifted but obscure American artist into stardom. The reason why it should win stems from the fans themselves. Fans can go very, very wrong sometimes. But other times, they can be your savior. Sugarman's fans are not creepy, nosey, dim-witted or overbearing. Rather they are grounded, intelligent, successful men and women who in their youth were going through unspeakable upheaval in their country, and found their voice in Sugarman's music (One of his songs asks, "I wonder, will this hatred ever end?"). It was the fans who decades ago recognized the brilliance of Sugarman, made him a sensation, and then didn't rest until they got answers about what really happened to the man who saw them through such great change during Apartheid. The outpouring of love and respect for one very talented (yet unappreciated in the U.S.) artist, will move you. And wait until you hear what the humble Rodriguez himself has to say all these years later. (On a side note, the injustice of what happened to Rodriguez's well-deserved royalties when he was a superstar, and the meager way he had to live and raise his daughters for decades for never receiving any checks, will make your blood boil. Although South African fans had no choice because his albums weren't available in any other form but a bootleg copy, Sugarman is a living breathing example of why pirating music is so wrong.)

Hooray! An Oscar thread! The films sound great!
I am excited that Seth McFarland is hosting. He is funny. And I am hoping Daniel Day-Lewis winds his third Oscar. He really deserves it.

Enjoy your 0scars conversations. No snark there. I'll check back in to see if you go off topic and I may chime in.

Whichever is your favorite movie/actor/director/song/whatever, I hope he/she/it wins. And for those who enjoy the red carpet, I hope you are pleased with what you see.

See ya soon.

If you are sensitive to curse words, I strongly advise you to put strong ear plugs in if you are ever in or near a high school when the kids are out. The curse words fly a mile a minute. And I will admit, I tend to curse more often than my teenage son. I blame it on a period of time I worked in a construction office, around construction workers. I never cursed much til then.

****************

Yes! When my daughter got a FB in middle school I made her "friend" me and give me her password. I was constantly making her delete posts her friends made on her wall that had the F bomb in it. I came to realize that that generation throws the F word around like it was nothing...and it becomes nothing. I was so shocked but now she's 17 and she will throw it around in front of me and I just ignore it as long as it's not in public or in front of kids. Really, that word to them is like hell or damn was to us.

---------------------

Sorry, I'm not agreeing with you on that one! I was disappointed in the film and in the acting. He just wasn't Lincoln. The film was okay, not great, just okay. Day-Lewis, not so much. I really didn't think that his performance was up to Oscar standards. There was nothing award-winning about it and I'm a huge Civil War/Lincoln buff. In fact, I'm watching "Killing Lincoln" for the second time and just watched "Lincoln" on the History Channel.

I think Hugh Jackman in Les Mis is far more deserving of the award, as is the film itself. But I'm usually wrong!

Dodging tomatos, I don't think Daniel Day Lewis should get it either, but I think it should go to Denzel Washington. He was amazing in Flight. That particular race is going to be a tight one and controversial.

Of course I like people that weren't even nominated too, like Daniel Craig in Bond and Josef Gordon Levitt in Luther. :)

I know this is totally off topic, but I just wanted to say I've been sick with a head cold the last couple of days and I've been hanging out at home, sleeping and watching TV. Based on what I read here, I decided to start watching Downton Abbey, starting with Season 1, Episode 1. And I was hooked with the first episode. I just finished episode 5. What good drama, and the writing and acting is incredibly good.

****************

Yes! I watched Season 1 and Season 2 on Netflix/Hulu and now am on Season 1 Episode 1 On demand. It is excellent! I remember my late father watching Upstairs Downstairs. He loved Masterpiece theater and I feel a connection to him enjoying this series. I actually thought it was DOWNTOWN Abbey and thought it was about an nunnery in the city. Auntie Ann!!! Hey, there and welcome back. It hasn't been the same without you!

Who is this Irishfan person on Twitter who has been hitting up on Kate? It's not Iwana, is it? It sounds like him!

"Dodging tomatos, I don't think Daniel Day Lewis should get it either,"

----------------------------

I'm not sure what it was about his performance, but it was flat. Not that Lincoln was a colorful, wild President, but so much more could have been put into the portrayal of him. He came across as having no depth of character. Perhaps since I am so interested in Lincoln and the Civil War, and there was so much hype about the film, that I was expecting much more. I had looked forward to it for so long, and for me, it was such a let-down.

JoyinVirginia said... 12

I am disappointed that John Goodman was not nominated for his supporting role in either Flight or Argo. I love him, he is such a terrific character actor.
I know odds are that Ann Hathaway will win best supporting actress, and she was great in Les Miz.
I really love Lincoln. Spielberg, Day-Lewis, all the actors and production staff were dedicated to authenticity. When it showed Lincoln in the White House of the Confederacy, he was in the REAL White House of the Confederacy which is open for tours. When he toured Petersburg, it was really filmed in Petersburg. Spielberg said in a Richmond Forum appearance where he and the writers were interviewed, that he did not hear Daniel Day-Lewis real voice from before filming started until after he called cut on the final scene. He said Day-Lewis raised the level of professionalism and dedication for everyone in the production. So I am hoping Lincoln winds for best picture, best actor, and best supporting actor.
I'm just a little teensy bit biased. Just a smidgen, you understand.

Blowing In The Wind said... 18

-------------------------

I can appreciate your being a bit prejudiced, but I'm assuming that you mean dedicated to authenticity in terms of having it filmed at actual locations. Do you know how many inaccuracies have been discovered in the movie...so much so that Spielberg addressed them when he spoke at Gettysburg? That is not to diminish the value of the movie in presenting the history of the passing of the 13th amendment, but historians have founded so many mistakes in the film that weren't caught by those whose job it was to act as researchers...some little things, some very significant.

In fact, Joe Courtney, Connecticut House democrat found a glaring mistake and wrote to Spielberg to have it corrected before it was released on DVD. In the movie, two Connecticut congressmen voted against the 13th amendment. Courtney went to the Congressional Research Service and found that all four Congressmen voted for the amendment to end slavery in 1865.

Do the mistakes diminish the integrity of the film? Of course not, but as far as being totally historically accurate, no, it isn't.

-----------------------------

Ditto! I was just discussing that with one of my friends tonight and I said the same thing. I was so disappointed in Russell Crowe's Javert. I saw the play on Broadway at least a half dozen times, with (I think) three different actors in that role, and each was so much better than Crowe. He had absolutely no depth to his character -- there was nothing that made you have any kind of emotion for him. He was just "there." My friend is a big Crowe fan (loved him in A Beautiful Mind) and even she had to concede that it was a mistake to cast him in that role. How much more powerful the film would have been with someone else playing Javert.

Jackman perfected his role, and Hathaway was incredible, much better than the actresses on Broadway. I really hope she wins, even though her part was so very brief.

As a long-time Les Mis fan, I am really looking forward to their musical number almost more than than the awards! I loved the film! I did not find Crowe as bad as I thought and I was prepared to be disappointed. I think another actor could have done it better, but the bar set by the other actors was pretty high. I thought Anne Hathaway's performance was outstanding and I don't usually like her; Jackman was superb. Also Samantha Barks as Eponine was amazing. Disappointed in Aaron Tveit's Enjolras and even Eddie Redmayne, while good, was not my ideal Marius ( better than Nick Jonas who had the stage role a while lol)
The child actors were excellent as well.

Can't wait!!

Joy: you are no longer actively on TV. Why do toy still need a bodyguard?

KK:I get threats on twitter. All day, every day.

Whoopie: you can ignore or block your haters but its been reported that you tried to hire a group to hack into haters accounts.

KK: No, No. Honestly, these fans contacted me and said they wanted the bullying to stop. I had no idea what "hacking" meant.

Whoopie: you seriously think mean comment are bulling? Kids commit suicide for intense bullying but you put yourself out there and continue to post things about your kids that should be kept quiet. Why do you call it bullying when its really just people that don't agree with you?

KK: Truthfully, my kids LOVE the fans and squeal with joy when I tweet about them. My fans consider them family and are so excited that we will all be on TeeVee again. They really miss us and the kids really miss the cameras.

&&&

I didn't think she's Cinderella but I completely sympathize with the kid. She is only 12. She is spending a lot of time at school, on the bus, and doing homework. It's not like when we were kids where you could come home, do an hour of homework and it was done. Kids have SO much these days, no to mention activities. She's also over at Jon's sometimes, but after all that, to be expected to upkeep a huge house that you never asked for, beyond doing a reasonable amount of chores for a 12 year old (making bed, tidying up room, cleaning up a room or two on the weekends, raking leaves once in awhile), is unfair in my opinion. And I also think Mady is talking about filming, too. She is absolutely right, all she's known is work.

Susie said... 45

Winsomeone said... 46

Mady doesn't seem to work harder than any of the other kids. At least she does have some after school things, where the others don't seem to. I really doubt that she keeps up that big house all by herself..she doesn't have enough hours in the day. The filming, except for this last thing, was over for almost 2 years now. So yes, I do believe she is a drama queen like her mother. Many kids from a family of 8 would have lots of responsibilities at home.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 47

I couldn't disagree more that she's a drama queen. We see how Kate yells at them, she must constantly feel like she is being ordered about.

She really has spent most of her life working. It started before she can remember. It stopped a year and a half ago, which is nothing to a child. To have it suddenly resume probably brought it all back as if it were yesterday. She doesn't think like an adult. She is 12 years old. Four of those years she doesn't remember. Six of those years she was working. About one and a half of those years she didn't work but clearly was still being ordered about by an authoritarian parent. When you look at it that way, she's spent over 90% of her life that she remembers working. And she's spent 100% of the life she can recall watching her mother try to be famous. That's work in and of itself! I feel for the kid.

Winsomeone said... 48

I feel for all of the kids, not just Mady. At least she doesn't seem to have suffered the terrible abuse the little ones did..no lifting by her hair and thrown into bed. What I was trying to say, and didn't do well, is that all of them have had a terrible life, with their childhoods stolen..not just Mady.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 49

I agree but I don't think Mady was trying to discount what her siblings have been through too just because she said all *I've" known is work. Actually I think she would be the first to say they've all been through a lot. She was just talking about herself at that moment though.

If she said ONLY I have ever known work that would be a different story, that would be rather short sighted. That's not what she said though.

Formerly Duped said... 50

I think Mady was probably treated worse with her feisty nature. She was the one who had The Spanker to 'happy up" and on the show there were a few incidents of her looking like she'd been punished and Kate making mean remarks about her behavior, jealousy, nature and looks (teeth).
Kate & Jon also said she was unhappy around summer after Kindergarten and they didn't know why- at the Dutch Wonderland IIRC. Sad how Mady has become a mini- Kate outwardly to the 'littles.'

Talk about adolescent. What in the world does she have to be crying behind closed doors about? What is her "silent pain?" Man, talk about a drama queen.

That is the legacy of abuse. In order to somehow restore order, the abused may either assume the role of the abuser or will seek out others to abuse them (once the abuser is out of their life). Hmmm...where have I heard that? Oh right, Kate cut her parents out and is now the abuser. You know what breaks that cycle? Therapy for both parties. You know what feeds the cycle? denial and secrecy.

Oops--just disregarded my own request about not basing our opinions on what we see since they are in a very stressed situation which was arranged for maximum drama. Oh well...if it looks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, it is probably a duck.

I agree with everyone who has already said it was a recipe for a mess.

I also doubt that Kendra, who said she doesn't cook, just browned up a huge pot of taco meat.

Did anyone else notice a section of the couch was covered in plastic. Would that be the designated "eating, drinking" section with no food allowed on the uncovered portion?

I said this once awhile ago. It would make anyone "crazy" to live with a person who shouts orders every 3 seconds and demands instant compliance. But, it is even worse for those kids. They switch environments -- strict to relaxed. They are in a constant state of adjustment.

That situation could possibly make stronger adults with great adaptive skills. Let's hope that is how it plays out.

I don't think that it is fair to criticize Mady because she said "I" instead of "we". Her stage in life is all about "me" and at that age, I was trying on personalities and trying them out.

Gidget was on when I was that age, and, after watching, I would stand in front of the mirror for hours trying out her hairstyles. If Jon is providing a looser environment for her, then maybe she can escape some of the detriments of her mother's sick behavior. Jon, at least, does provide a safe place and a refuge for the kids. That means a lot.

-------------------------
Kendra's Xfinity interview said she removed Kate's strict rules during her portion of the week and the kids flipped out. I wonder if that's due to knowing Mom's going to see them living rule free in her house and the anxiety it caused them. Or are they just incapable of relaxing the rules in Mom's house because their little brains can't equate Mom's house with chilling out.

Vicks for cracked heels is just the latest piece of info I've picked up here. From documentary recommendations, to slow cooker recipes, uses for vinegar, books to read, sleep aid suggestions, etc. etc. , this site has it all!

Now, about my windows & mirrors. Anyone know what is the best streak-free cleaning method? No matter what I do, they always look filmy & attract dust. . Yes, I've even tried vinegar & newspapers, with so-so results.

Maybe I should tweet Kate, she should know.

Dmasy said... 63

Jolie -- I have really tried everything for windows and mirrors. My best suggestion is Cinch product (a bright orange-red spray bottle) and use inexpensive cloth baby diapers. Be sure to run the diapers through a wash cycle before using them the first time. Works for me!

Regarding the foot cracks. If the crack is very deep like Sherry Baby said, she really needs to see a doctor as infection can get in and really cause havoc. I have the same problem and on occasion need to see the podiatrist to ensure there is no infection. I have to put bacitration and a butterfly bandaid on the cracked area. Vick's does wonders also when there is no actual huge flare up. Keeping the skin moist with a thick cream is also helpful.

I, too, saw that quote in Parade Magazine from Mark Burnett and Roma Downey. Very, very telling. Most of us knew what was going on with the "realist" tv, but the quote from them was quite telling. "You can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time." We will no longer fall for reality tv.

Kate just tweeted a picture of herself cleaning the fridge. What kind of Mother says take a picture of me so I can tweet it? I have four kids and they ask me to take their pictures not the other way around. She is just so desperate and sad.

Layla said... 69

Mady is a smart girl, and no doubt she sees beyond her mother's constant reminders of what a great life they have. She had to work to help support her family from a young age. Even when the show ended, she has had to help with the upkeep of that house. Remember the episode when Mady was asking why she has to clean, and Kate said, "Because I put a roof over your head"? Truth is, it was the kids who put a roof over Kate's head, and they were required to help keep it clean. Hoffman's book talked about the time last spring when Kate made the kids go out and do the weeding in the yard, while she sat and screamed at them. We know that M&C do a lot to take care of the little ones, watching them in the basement, helping with showers, comforting them when Kate freaks out. Last spring, the kids were forced to run in a race they didn't want to do and that they were not prepared for, just to keep their mother in the public eye. Forced to pose for pictures so her mother can keep her Twitter followers interested. And now, her mother shoves them in front of a camera again, so that they can continue to support her. I absolutely agree with Mady. Her life, as far back as she can remember, has been all about work. If she feels that way now, then what is her life going to be like in a few years, when that resentment had built up and collided with typical teenage angst? She may just explode. Hers is not a happy, carefree life and it never has been. That goes for all 8.

Window cleaner: big bucket of hot water...1 drop of dawn and 1/2 cup of vinegar. Wash the window with a rag...the trick to streak-free is NOT wiping or drying but using a 4 or 6 inch window squeegee....after each run across the window with the squeegee, wipe the squeegee with a towel and continue. My windows and mirrors are completely streak free with this method.

Zoe said... 71

I agree with Wowser about window cleaner & squeegee. Make sure it is white distilled vinegar. And for large windows/mirrors I have a 12" squeegee.

You may just be right about that. On Sep.15, Kate tweeted:

Kate Gosselin @Kateplusmy8 15 Sep
@DennisDiLoreto I already have more than two dozen chickens in the back yard :) :) got them two years ago and getting 25 more next month!:)

Considering that it seems the show was filmed from Oct.16-Oct.19(going by Kate's and Kendra's tweets), it is definitely something that makes you go hmmmm....

Chickens in the back yard? With Shoka killing anything that moves? I thought she had them locked up in the barn - 50 chickens. That's crazy. No one could possibly eat that many eggs, unless they are eating them morning, noon and night. There looked to be at least 5 or or 6 dozen in the fridge on her "cleaning" a spotless fridge pic.

I use miracle cloth for cleaning windows and mirrors. Dampen one with plain water, wipe down, and wipe dry with the other. Works great.

Does that best friend from New York mean the paid makeup artist Deanna? She did tweet she was a part of all this but maybe I incorrectly assumed she went to LA with Kate--instead maybe she was the babysitter. Who has their paid makeup artist babysitting the kids? Does Deanna even HAVE any experience babysitting? Sounds like she lives a single girl party lifestyle in NYC. Seems more appropriate to have a family member or nanny help out. Nuts.

I agree. She has definitely reached an age where she is understanding everything that went on and starting to see through the B.S. The realization she was exploited and very badly is only going to grow deeper for her, I think by the time she is 14 or 15 she will understand it fully. But at this age she's halfway there already. And I don't think it's going to be pretty. I would bet a million dollars that at least one, if not several of these kids are going to sue their parents for their money when they are of age.

Kate's talking points for her appearance on The View:
1. I'm on TV again!
2. I want a new show! Not just one episode, but one that is mine-all-mine!
3. I want a mine-all-mine show, but if I have to, I'll throw in those 8 kids to help "sell" it.
4. CWS will prove to everyone that i have it soooo much harder than any other mom in the whole entire world--which is why I need a new show! The world owes me a new show!
5. Did I mention that my life is harder than anyone else's? I make my own bread and my own yogurt. I'm like this wonder woman/mom! Want to know how I do it? Well, give me a show, and the whole world can see how I do it all!
6. Time's up? Oh, okay...well, remember everyone, I want a new show! I need a new show! The world needs to see me in a new show!

Exactly! Who does this except a woman who needs to show her kids how hard she 'works', and only for attention. Pathetic. There is so much more she could be doing to mother her children on a weekend. Maybe she should have been cleaning that fridge instead of shake and baking last week.

Cthulhu the cuddly -- Lovecraft fan? Personally, I think Joss Whedon should be nominated for (and win) King of the World!!

I haven't seen all of the nominated films, but I have seen "Argo", Les Miz, and Beasts. I agree, Russell Crowe was overmatched and out-voiced in Les Miz. I love Hugh Jackman and I'd love to see him win, but I'm afraid that he won't. Historically, musicals usually don't usually receive the serious consideration that they (IMO), should. There are some exceptions, though, so let's hope this is one of them. I don't have any real strong opinions re any of the best/supporting actor/actress nominations. I really want to see "Argo" win best picture. It's a travesty that Ben Affleck wasn't nominated for Best Director. I'd really like to see "The Invisible War" win for best documentary. It's a devastating, serious, impactful (is that a word?) film. The women who spoke up and allowed their stories to be filmed are so courageous.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 87

Putting anything you are going to eat on the floor is just insane. Insane. They have a dog, chickens, are coming in and out of the house on sneakers that have touched feces and god knows what else and probably often running straight to the fridge for drink or a snack. That's a recipe for serious illness. BLECHHH!

They say one of the germiest things in your house is the bottom of your purse. That's because it's often stashed on the FLOOR.

SwingsandRoundabouts said... 88

Now let's contrast this with Melissa Gilbert's twitter, in which she is so cutely excited about family game night with her kids and fiancé, charades, and tacos and Oscar viewing. She is also tweeting about reading the Sunday paper and tweeting her pics for Oscars. She is in touch with her world and her twitter is not completely self serving. I think she's tweeted about three pics of her kids in so many years, and they're much older. She talks about them but doesn't say anything private about them.

I was trying to figure out why I couldn't love Lincoln and Melissa explained it to me! "Melissa Gilbert ‏@MelissaEGilbert

Ha! Did Kate ever learn the fashion rule of choosing cleavage OR legs, not both? Kendra is
apparently still a chapter behind in the book of fashion rules. She's showing it all.

FYI said... 94

First Kate tweets about cleaning the fridge and now she tweets about cleaning cars. She's being KatieKleaner today, isn't she?

I totally believe that picture of her cleaning the fridge was totally staged. For one thing, who wears jewelry(she's wearing a bracelet) when cleaning? Also, the picture shows the whole inside of the fridge, with the carefully placed gallon of milk(organic, no less) and CoffeeMate. She probably took stuff off the bottom shelf and just wiped that shelf only. Looks like she's also using a paper towel and spray cleaner. No wonder she uses so many paper towels in a week, if she uses them for cleaning everything.

People on twitter are oohing about how great she looks without makeup. Considering how she looked in the pictures taken the other day, I doubt she was makeup free--it just wasn't plastered as much as usual.

It also looks like there's a jar of spaghetti sauce on the door-I thought she made her own?

Hasn't Kate said in the past that she bakes about a million homemade, organic cookies at one time and freezes them? Looked to me like there was a package of Toll-House slice and bake cookies in the drawer of her fridge. It also looks like she gets a little help from Wolfgang Puck when she makes her "homemade" spaghetti sauce. Ans the food on the floor? Just ewwwwwwww! Yeah the stuff is in bags but you'll have to touch those germey bags to get at the food inside of them. Kate, you'd be better off not posting these pictures because when you do you just show he world that your Susie Homemaker persona is yet another one of your lies.

Yes, I know she didn't really grow up in a trailer park. I also know that many people who don't have much are very polite and classy. The point I guess I'm making is she does such trashy, class-less things all the time, and even despite six years in the business, still hasn't learned.

Dmasy said... 99

I know this is very picky. ( She should never have invited us inside her refrigerator. )

Unless those kids want to eat a raw egg, there is NOTHING readily available for them to snack on.

That is not a child-friendly refrigerator. Maybe there another one in her home that is stocked for a large family. I hope so. A salad, 9 people -- how do you get partial bottles of salad dressing? Either that is her exclusive refrig or she does serious rationing.

I keep more food on hand for young GUESTS than she has for her kids.

Someone upthread commented that they probably aren't allowed free access to snacks. That refrigerator isn't where they are getting them.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 100

Dmasy, I don't think that's being picky. It's just true. It looks like the fridge for an adult who lives alone with a penchant for salads and one creepy egg fetish.

Where are the yogurts, tortillas, shredded cheese, the cheese sticks? The plastic containers of yummy leftovers to dig into? The half eaten cake? The bowl of fresh fruit to grab from? The cold 16 ounce drinks? Just very odd, much like everything else in her life. She reminds me of a horror movie sometimes, it seems like a horror movie fridge would have a ton of eggs and little else.

FYI said... 101

Dmasy-I also noticed the absence of snacks. Didn't really see any fruit, unless she doesn't refrigerate it. I did notice what seemed to be a bottle of chocolate syrup on the same shelf as the milk.

As far as putting the food bags on the floor-remember this is someone who stood up on her counter in bare feet to clean the stove hood.

I just thought of something. Remember when Kate tweeted that picture of the kids cleaning the basement. That was taken on Sept. 16. How much you want to bet that that whole cleaning up project was because she knew that area would be used in filming the show?

In the preview clip for CWS, there is a fridge shown(or maybe it's an upright freezer). It looks like it's in the basement. That one is filled with plastic containers of stuff. If she has 5, count em, 5 freezers, she probably has more than 1 fridge. The fridge she is shown cleaning is definitely the one in the kitchen.

Remember though, during the kitchen remodel show they talked about an under counter fridge, which may be where snacks or drinks are kept. My daughter has one and that's where the kids yogurt snacks, juice boxes and other refrigerated snacks go.

It's about time for her to bake cookies to freeze again. So, while she paints the picture of having flour dust floating around the kitchen and sugar spilling on the counters and vanilla dripping, not to mention eggs.... well, she's been slice and baking all along! What kinds of baked cookies does she make? Oatmeal,
chocolate chip, sugar, peanut butter, am I right? Those are all available in the slice and bake form.

I came back and a week and a half later I found out that she was in the hospital from the 28th. I found out that she was in ICU and it was not good, she was around 53 or 54 years old. Then several days later, I found out that she was on a trach. Then I got ill again and had to go Feb. 1st. Several days before I got out of the hospital, I was in for 18 days, I called the other hospital to check on her and the operator could not find her name on the computer. I then thought she got better and went back to the NH. Then I asked her if she was transferred to a different facility and she said no. Then it dawned on me what happened. She passed away before I even got out of the hospital. I know where she is and she is not in any pain and is experiencing total joy and happiness beyond comprehension.

I just want to say a little something about fresh eggs. I own chickens.
Chickens. New England Chickens. Birds need a heat source in this weather or they die.

EVERY SINGLE DAY OF A CHICKENS LIFE you must collect the eggs. Winter, thE EGGS CRACK, freeze and pop. Summer, they need to be refrigerated QUICKLY. Kate Gosselin, you no good lying bitch. I can guarEntee you throw hundreds of eggs right back to the hens to be consumed by the very hens that laid them because you know they are unsafe to eat. or she thows them in the garbage. You cannot leave eggs in the heat or they will make you sick if you eat them.

Chickens shit in the nest, eggs have mud, dust, and poop on them from dirty chicken feet. Every single egg from the nest needs to be collected, washed, set on a clean towel untill dry and then boxed and refrigerated. That friggen witch can never ever convince me she uses the eggs or ever cares for them for her own use. SOMEONE ELSE DOES IT FOR HER. Not that thing Kate Gosselin that pretends she is a Mother. She does not have the capacity to Mother a stupid egge in the shell, never mind her own kids. Eggs have their own life. A living organism.

Back to the chickens. Lot's of shoveling out the poop, relining on an almost daily basis of hay in the laying boxes, fresh water, fresh grain. Who the hell does this bitch think she is shitting. I have had chickens all of my life. She does not even know the difference between a hen or a rooster. And if farmer dildo down the road gave her any birds whatsoever he made sure she never got a rooster. How I despise that next tuesday woman.\
I KNOW her birds are neglected as much if not more than her own children. She thinks she is fooling the world when it comes to chickens. I know different. My lovely Bertie boy is 17 years old. His favorite food is cottage cheese and his coop has heat in this New England weather. So do the last of my six girls. Birds of course. They lay blue eggs. Few now, they are way to old but they are in retirement. Cracked corn, good grain, sugar water and a wonderful life.

The reason for this post is I am angry that the witch has the nerve to say she has chicken, a dog and kids. She does not love her own children, never mind the chickens. Do you think Kate would even know the favorite food of one bird? Do think she could even relate to anyone anywhere that chickens fight for the same spot on the perch every night as they go to roost. The pecking order so to speak.
Would she even know that a Mother Hen would lay down her life to protect her brood, spread her wings covering her chicks and give her life to a hawk taking her so that her chicks might live?

Has she ever had a wonderful bird named Honey follow her around the yard as she gardened to gobble worms and grubs she might have oveturned?

Kate Gosselin, the observation for one hour of your birds would have given you gobs and gobs of material for your next phony blog. But you don't get it. I do not even think you ever felt for one moment as your babies kicked in you womb you had empathy. You took the kicking, the heavyness and the pregnant pauses personally. Now you enjoy punishing them for it. You horror.

The chicken post here is my idea bitch. Don't steal it from me for your next vomit fest on the stir. See, I love my chickens.

Zelda thanks for sharing that, I have heard it's a lot of work. I have considered getting two or three, we are zoned for it and a few neighbors have them, but it sounds like a lot of hassle and I'm worried my dog will stress them out. It's a given he will hate them. I can't imagine having 50.

Egg white face mask?

If she sells the eggs, I hope the boys get to keep the money from the sales. Aren't they the ones who do the work? And if so, did they get to vote on whether they wanted more chickens to clean up after?

So many questions.

What happened to the happy, happy, joy, joy "my life is perfect" tweets? In the spirit of Oscar night, I'm going to go ahead and make a couple of predictions . . . There's been enough clips of her upcoming CWS appearance which show the same old screeching Kate and articles favorable to Kendra. The appearance on the View will probably be short and not so sweet if Whoopi's feeling fiesty. Based on the "crying behind closed doors" and the "I don't care" tweet above as well as other things, I think we'll see headlines about Ms. Kreider being hospitalized due to "stress and exhaustion" within the next few months. She's kept up a charade on multiple fronts for the last 3-4 years, something's gotta give soon.

Now before I get slammed, I'm not criticizing or wishing such a thing on her. These are just my observations and gut feeling.

The name of the person or farm who brings in the eggs is put on the egg carton so people know where they come from. My question is about the color of the eggshells. I can buy a dozen eggs and have brown, white and blue eggs in the same dozen. What is the difference, if any, or is the color of the egg dependent on the type of chicken? Thanks.

I'm sure they'd rather be on the phone with friends or doing anything other than hanging out WITH YOU in YOUR BED.

And here's her latest tweet: "I'm about 2 blab 4 the next 1.5hrs!Doing satellite radio tour 2 promote Wife Swap w @KendraWilkinson. Ah, putting my gift of gab 2good use!" WOW Kate, you're going to do a satellite radio tour and you'll be dialing in to different shows for the next 1 1/2 hours! Depending on the number of shows that she's going to be on she won't have much time on any of them as I'm sure she's not getting the full time on any one show and you've got to figure in wait time and commercial time, BUT she'll be putting her gift of gab to good use!

After all, she would rather give them Seasame Street juice than organic milk. Pic also looks staged too. At least it didn't include any of the children in it.

Kate is very defensive lately, isn't she? All the I-don't-give-a-darn and I-don't-think-about-you talk makes me think she is bracing for a load of criticism to come her way. Perhaps she has previewed CWS and it wasn't pretty. If she acts like typical Kate--nasty, critical, belittling, controlling--then she's going to be picked apart and she knows it. Of course, she'll blame it all on editing, but everyone will know the truth. All but her 6 most devoted cult members, that is. Who will the 6 blame it on this time? Jon won't be on it for them to belittle, so it will have to be Hank Sr. I hope he didn't put up with a minute of her crap and called her out on-camera. Wouldn't that be nice. I'll have to wait for the recap, though, because I refuse to watch that hag.

This is the most promotion Kate has done for anything since she had that stupid contest just before Kate plus 8 was cancelled. When it's something that promotes just Kate, as opposed to a charity she is involved in, she goes all out.

I don't think they will ask her too many questions on the View. She's only there to promote the show, and she's not the only guest.

I have to laugh when I look at Kate's twitter and one of the enablers is still asking Kate if she is going to be on CWS for 3 shows, because the promo says "3 week event". Some of them really think this is going to jumpstart her "career", especially Milo.

Actually, with most of Hollywood in a post awards show fatigue/fog for the next several days, Tuesday's The View and CWS is probably inopportune timing for KG. And I have to wash my hair. All day.

TLC stinks said... 177

Whoopi and nobody else on The View will ask Kate any probing questions. Have they in the past? Kate is on solely to promote an ABC show.

BTW, I read that Kendra has a full-time nanny and a housekeeper. You can bet that when Kendra is at the Gosselin home, it will be stressed that Kate "does it all alone".

Please remember, the show is scripted. Kate will be the vile, nasty one because that is what ABC wants. The issue is that she is not play acting. The woman is truly like how she behaves on TV.

And I have never even heard of Kendra until this all came up, so I guess Kate has been good for Kendra's recognition. Oh well, too bad ABC is airing the D Listers these days.

The interactions iwth other children would do alot of good in regards to their social skills and self-awareness. It appears that some of the children do not have that...walking in the path of someone's plate and knocking over her juice bottle and just giggling about it. I thought that was a weird reaction afterwards. Giggling after you step on someone's plate and kicking over her juice bottle? You step over it or walk around, that's what I did when I was a kid. They have no social skills, none at all. I think they have to wait for kate to tell them what to do before they can do anything at all because that is what they are used to when they were filming.

The color of the shell is just the breed of chicken. The blue or green eggs come from a gentle breed originating from Chile, South America called Araucana. Happy, uncrowded, well fed birds don't cannibize each other and the eggs taste so good. Lot's of cracked corn in winter helps them keep warm and makes for a deep yellow tasty yolk.

Kate probably will steal the idea for her stupid blog but it will be phoney baloney. She has no connection to her birds. I would wager she sends them back to the farmer to be killed and eaten when the egg production goes down. All my girls have and will die of old age.

PS, it's no picnic to have to lay and egg every day. LOL

I've never seen Kate ever promote anything, not even the show where she announced that they were addicted to giving back. Nary a peep about the show from Kate.

The only other time I've seen this much publicizing from Kate was when she had been cancelled but it hadn't been pubicly announced yet. Or she was on the verge of being cancelled, anyway.

She's sounding really desperate this time, much like she sounded right before she was cancelled.

All the other times she could or should have publicized what she was going to be on, she didn't.

So why this time? What's different about this time?

OrangeCrusher1 said... 184

Perhaps this time she finally has some inkling that there are only a few drops of water left in the drain. Maybe ABC made that clear, tho I doubt it since she has never listened before. Kendra has done way more publicizing. No matter, it's all over tomorrow, a quick blip on both am and pm tv.

******************

As you said she's sounding really desperate, and I believe she is. She didn't even promote the cruise like this. She left that up to Cindy.

Her constant retweeting of her fans' tweets about the show, reek of desperation. She's had a lot of bad press(the book, the CC firing, even the "hacking") and she's trying so hard to make people forget that.

The way she is going on about this show, makes me think that she believes this is the "last chance" she'll get to be in the spotlight again. No matter how many twitter followers she has--they don't matter to any TV producer. She wants this show to have ratings so someone will sit up and take notice of her.

If the show ends up getting decent ratings, of course, Kate will assume it's all because of her, and not Kendra. She'll be waiting for the phone to ring, the email to come, etc. She's pinning all her hopes and dreams on this-but I think she is going to be sadly disappointed.

Maybe it will finally give her a wake-up call that nobody in the entertainment business wants her for anything.

I see Khate is twittering away this morning and even the tweets last night about "her" girls were just so fakey! When was the last time Khate tweeted that "her" kids were with friends. When my daughter was 8, she was competing all over the state in gymnastics and taking dance classes and so much more. My son was doing sports at that age. I think that only applied to the original "Wife Swap", where they used regular people, not celebrities.

This "3 week event" is only being used as filler until the premieres of DWTS and Splash. I don't even think ABC expects much in the way of ratings. They just needed to air something during that time period. That would explain why they're not really promoting it, like they have been with DWTS and Splash.

Kate is riding high on the wave of praise from her fans, but after tomorrow the question will be, "What comes next?". This episode filmed in October, more than 4 months ago. It is the only TV job she has gotten in a year and a half, and it is nothing but a shared spot on a one-time show. This show is a build-up to Kendra's appearance on Splash. It's not a build-up to anything for Kate. She is left at home in PA, taking care of the kids and whining about bullies on Twitter. After tomorrow, the fans will be pressuring her for more, and I don't think she has any more to give them. Let her enjoy her all-too-brief moment in the spotlight. After tomorrow, it's back to blogging and shoveling chicken poop for her.

I don't think it's so much the hacking fiasco right now although Whoopi or someone might mention it tomorrow. Katie Irene has got to be cognizant of the fact that it's been ages since she's been on TV, no one except for her 6 fans is even that excited about her upcoming appearance, the articles about the CWS show are mostly about Kendra/put her in a positive light, and instead of a full media tour she's reduced to calling radio stations for quick interviews with only a token appearance on the View tomorrow. This is not going to be her big entrance back into the hearts of the American public or put her number on the speed dials of the Hollywood movers and shakers. I also think Robert's book will be released soon and has her very worried.

I was also thinking about people in the entertainment industry who have stepped out of the limelight for a while due to 'personal issues' and were able to make a comeback. The difference between them and Katie Irene is that they are/were extremely talented and were not known child and animal abusers.

I learn so many interesting things from this blog - and Searching for Sugarman is just the latest of those things. It's going on my Netflix queue ASAP. Thanks Admin for this wonderful blog, and the way you have helped it to evolve into so much more.

Thanks for the info. The color of the yolk in a fresh egg is amazing compared to a store bought one. I go through a lot of eggs as I have two every morning for breakfast.

In a nutshell, talent is what you need and talent is what she does not have. If there had even been an likeability factor, she and her family might still be on TLC, as the divorced mom of 8 'making it work', if even only with the occasional special. Nope, no interest in nasty, self-serving, grifting, lying and lazy. Sums it up.

This writer at celebritydirtylaundry definitely has Kate's number.

"I love how Kate Gosselin wants moms everywhere to believe that she is exactly like us. She’s just a typical soccer mom that lives and breathes through her children, does school projects with them and requires copious amounts of coffee to survive each day. In between all of that she is obsessed with finding new and often ridiculous ways to keep herself in the press. If that means using her kids to snag another show then so be it. That tendency I would say, most definitely separates Kate from the rest of us for sure."

I really can't think of another has-been reality celebrity who repeatedly goes on radio shows or tv talk shows saying the same things over and over like Kate does. "Miss filming, miss the experiences, I do it all on my own, etc." Over and over for what...almost two years now? It doesn't even matter if it's to promote this ONE episode of CWS, it always comes back to those topics. Tomorrow's The View appearance will be no different. And at some point, I expect Jon will be thrown under the bus again--because she can't let it go.

All the tweets that you see Kate getting lately from what appear to be new fans are, in reality, just "twitterbots" set to tweet about the show. I don't know if ABC or Kate is paying for the tweets but someone is. If it's Kate, she's not fooling anyone in the know. If you read the tweets closely you'll see that it's always worded the same way. After the show airs you may see some that praise Kate but then they'll drop off and Kate will be back to her 6 die-hard fans.
