Anyone would do it too? Or would they? Now that reality T.V. has been around so long the child stars have grown up, reflected on their experiences, and found their voices, it's interesting to hear what they have to say. Enter Kristin Cavallari, who at just 17 and a junior in high school, was MTV's breakout star of Laguna Beach and The Hills.
But does she want her new baby Camden, born seven months ago, to have a reality show? No. She's not talking hypothetically, she's actually been offered a show.
Cavallari in 2005 |
“I want Cam to grow up in the most normal setting possible," Cavallari said, "and I just don’t think that’s going to happen with cameras. The family is sacred.”
Amen, Kristin. And good for you.
In other news of celebs who won't go on reality T.V., Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, Kate's "friends," recently made it crystal clear such a venture wasn't for them.

And what's with the little "winking" smiley face?
I guess it never occurs to this Ally sheeple that maybe if Jon were still married to her he wouldn't allow his children to do hard labor all the time except for half an hour reserved for homework and play.
Kate words that tweet so she can deny, deny that she said anything nasty about Jon.
But we all know...never believe anything she says that is prefaced with " In all honesty"...
So we really know that she and her kids are likely the opposite of being super duper happy without Jon.
also, everytime kate retweets a platitude I can not help but wonder...
is she trying to convince all of us, or herself?
HA HA
I wonder if she shares the kids school things with Jon? I remember a few years ago I had parent like Kate, and I had to make two copies of everything the child did...all graded papers, flyers, report cards, because the mom would NOT share with dad. He came in every Friday and picked it all up. It was awful...I was constantly at the copy machine. The mom came in and went through the child's portfolios (writing, art, etc.) and tore out what she wanted. These were project type things that couldn't be copied. I wonder if Kate is that bad?
I.e. they DON'T have a wonderful life when they are with Jon.
Sorry Kate, Liz's instagram showed relaxed, calm, normal kids loving on her beautiful pup.
I really wish the school bashing would stop. Calling the head of school a "sleaze" is uncalled for, and speaks volumes about the poster. It's what the haters do on Twitter, and I don't think that it has a place on this blog. Just my opinion, of course,
I can promise you the twins are accessing social media like Twitter and they don't have to follow their mother to read her tweets. Shame on her.
She's a hateful bitch, and I think she deeply regrets letting go of Jon, her little slave.
As for Jon, he's the lucky one to have been cut loose from her.

__________
Exactly, admin. She wouldn't have had to respond to that at all. By doing so, without saying it in so many words, she agreed with the poster. Shame on her. If she were going to make a comment, why not say that their mutual custody arrangement after the divorce was worked out so the children benefited by having both parents involved in their lives?
Let's believe Kate for a second: Why are the 8 kids begging all the time, for years now, for Kate to marry if they are living a wonderful, super happy life with just their mother? Think about it.
Kate is a freaking liar. The kids are not super happy living a wonderful life now that their father is not living with them. And I don't believe all the kids have been begging Kate for years to marry so some man can come live in their house and discipline them. And also have this man take their Mother's time and attention away from them.

@Kateplusmy8 Its amazing DWTS is still going..remember U did in fact have an influence on turning those ratings around...#TheKateEffect
The Kate Effect? I can feel my dinner starting to churn inside and I'm fighting the gag reflex with all my might. Wait. I just had a dry heave.
Or even perhaps, I'd appreciate you not comment about our private separation situation, it's not good for my children. Imagine that.
To me it's irrelevant whether this is a better situation--perhaps it is for many families. For instance two parents constantly bickering and fighting in front of the kids are probably better off splitting and I wouldn't take issue with a parent saying as much in private among friends or to a therapist or family. But to make such a public comment is despicable! The bottom line is no child deserves to hear that because they will think you are saying they are better off without their dad. It's an awful thing to say.
How come Erin Andrews and Pam Andersen and that iceskater Evan never get any credit for DWTS ratings? They were on the same season.
All three of them brought in different segments that never watched before. Erin the sports crowd, Pam the .... well, the Pam crowd, and Evan the Olympics fans. That could be HUGE numbers right there. Huge. Oh then there was Neicy Nash with a whole other home decorating crowd. That was a money season with a ton of diversity that in my opinion explains the slightly higher rating perfectly--diversity of viewers, and new segments/demographics of viewers.
But no somehow it's all Kate, even though her show could barely pull in a million viewers just months later. Things that make you go hmm.
So what is the review suppose to be about... How wantables works? or the products she received? because she didnt review any of the products, barely mentions them, except for the scarf?
Her review is more about her, and how easy it was for her, how her kids squealed with delight ( do they do anything but squeal over everything?)
Her review did not make me want to sign up, or use any of the products? All I know is she got a ring that she wore on the view.
I "honestly" couldn't believe Kate's comment. That's a new low even for her. Kate may be a bitch but karma is a bigger bitch and one of these days she'll catch up with Kate. I wonder if the kids ask each other why mommy hates daddy so much.
On another note, DWTS just had a sneak peak of Splash. It looks interesting and Kendra is not afraid to be seen without makeup!
But to make such a public comment is despicable! The bottom line is no child deserves to hear that because they will think you are saying they are better off without their dad. It's an awful thing to say.
-------------------------------
It's all so darn frustrating. You just want to bang your head on the wall at the things she does. Why doesn't she get it? She can't be that stupid, can she? She's never been able to think before she says or does anything, but when it comes to the kids and their father, there shouldn't be any remarks at all. I guess she just can't help it...she is so full of anger and hatred that if the opportunity presents itself for a comment, that is what she does.
I really hope those children emerge from all of this relatively unscathed, but I'm beginning to wonder if that's going to be possible because she just won't stop with the Jon vilification.
"Back in my day" it was the Columbia Record Club. You sent in a card and every month you got a new 45 rpm record. Many people ended up with all kinds of headaches and unwanted phone calls from bill collectors over that.
She is a vile, hateful woman who hates her children's father more than she loves her children. She can go to hell as far as I'm concerned. What if the kids saw that?
====
If Kate says these things to strangers on twitter you know she's saying worse to her kids about their father . She hates him for wanting a normal mediocre life. If they aren't seeing Jon often it's because she is successfully alienating them. Kate is a depraved human being.
A ring she wore on her 'latest' appearance on The View, no less. I doubt she has any others lined up anytime soon. And mystery gift box online promos, well isn't that exciting career news. As for DWTS, unless someone is payng her way to CA and all expenses too, you will not be seeing that smiling face in the audience. Do you understand that, Milo? She is not the ratings grabber you would like to think she is.
Her review is more about her, and how easy it was for her, how her kids squealed with delight ( do they do anything but squeal over everything?)
--------------------------
She's given one thing to do and she can't even do that right. How difficult is it to photograph the items she received, describe them and what she likes (or dislikes) about them? That's what an honest review is. She failed again. If she doesn't have the smarts to do this, she should at least call someone to help her with it, and then PROOFREAD what she has written...at least make this blog entry look professional. It's such a jumbled mess of nothing that it's an embarrassment.
She once said she would flip burgers if she had to. Here's the thing, I can hold my head a lot higher flipping burgers than I could working for some company that preys on people that really aren't very savvy shoppers. Ethical question, could you promote such a product? Is it wrong? I'm not sure she will ever understand that it's very important to many people to have integrity about their work as it is the paycheck.
I don't know about the ratings for seasons 13, 14, and 15, but season 12(2 seasons after Kate) had the highest ratings ever of the first 12 seasons of DWTS.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2011/05/dancing-with-the-stars-hits-its-highest-ratings-ever-even-without-bristol-palin-.html
Also, from Wikipedia:
"Season 12 was the most watched season, and numerous episodes were the most watched show in the USA for the week. The show tied with Modern Family, a sitcom which also airs on ABC, for the season's No. 5 spot in the age 18-49 demographic of viewers, and placed at No. 3 on the rankings of the overall season."
And in Kate's season the ratings remained about the same(with just a slight dip), even after Kate was voted off(Apr 20). The sheeple always claim that the rating went way down after Kate left. Scroll down to the end of the page to see the ratings for Season 10.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dancing_with_the_Stars_(U.S._season_10)
Milo, as usual, has no idea what she's talking about.
Hook em horns that is just sad. Sad. I feel very sorry for kids when it gets to that level. Sheesh.
I highly doubt that they kids ever told Kate they want her to get married again. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Kate doesn't want to get married again.
If she got married again, then how could she continue her role of the poor, suffering, single mom, who does it all by herself without any help or support? The kids aren't the reason she doesn't date, they're her excuse-she herself doesn't want to date.
The mom came in and went through the child's portfolios (writing, art, etc.) and tore out what she wanted. These were project type things that couldn't be copied. I wonder if Kate is that bad?
---------------------------
Kate didn't keep school projects, artwork, and so forth. She threw them out. I doubt if she'd be interested in having copies of anything.
I did my own little review.. I went and checked out a few other bloggers who did a wantables review. I read five of them, and enjoyed it, and learned more about these boxes. These bloggers had great presentations. Some of them took pictures of themselves wearing the makeup to show how well the company picked the colors for them, and exposed them to products they never otherwise would have tried.
They all make the link to wantables very clear.
On Kates, I missed the link to wantables, and could not, drag myself to finish reading her article. Her picture of the makeup, does not even give a good idea of what the product is, other then the nail polish. Looks like wantables give's away a free box every Wednesday. This week must be Kate's turn to sponsor a giveaway.
Until Kate can get herself out of her own way, I can not see her having much success promoting her blog as a business. She has done better this week. I see she promoted her blog 2 x this week, and the CWS two times. So she is doing a bit better in that arena...
I also don't think she wants to bother with the baggage an older man would probably have and just wants someone she can control. That may be easy to find when you and boyfriend are 22 years old, but it's a different story when you are 38. I also think she doesn't want to support anyone else. She would want a man to make his own money. And chances are if you are making your own money you have half a brain and wouldn't go anywhere near Kate in the first place. She will never marry again much less even date. Her children will be estranged by the time they are 30 and she will be old and alone.
I don't doubt Wantables is a legitimate company that has lots of satisfied customers. I'm sure it will stay in business as long as people want to buy their packages.
But I really am not sure Kate actually does like these products she's receiving. I didn't get that from her blog, anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if she handed this make-up over to Mady and Cara so they could all play with it together during their nighttime adventures in her bedroom. You know, shades of Alexis (?) and the guacamole body painting. Kate got the sample, didn't want it, gave it away for a play time item.
As a person who does not wear makeup, and never has, I just don't understand the idea of spending $35.00 a month for stuff you smear on your face and eyes. And once you find the brand of stuff you like smearing on, why would you switch? Especially sight unseen. It's just all too foreign to me. I realize most women do pay that and much more for their make up, and that's fine, but this sure isn't going to get me to sign up. Not for jewelry either. I have very specific tastes on jewelry and do not care for "trendy" pieces. I suspect that's what these are. I'd probably be sending it ALL back every month.
When people make downright nasty comments about Jon, Kate says its honesty, and she likes honesty!
When people make downright nasty comments about Kate, Kate says its bullying, blocks you, and reports you to bullyville!
Meagler, yes, and isn't it ironic that a hallmark technique of a bully is to marginalize you and exclude you? Make you feel like it's you versus the world? That comment and many more of her comments do exactly that, marginalize and exclude Jon. Us versus him.
She's given one thing to do and she can't even do that right. How difficult is it to photograph the items she received, describe them and what she likes (or dislikes) about them?
=======================
I was thinking about this. Do you think that she really doesn't understand what she's supposed to do, or she does understand it and can't do it, and therefore she does whatever she darn well feels like doing? The bottom line, then, is that it's all about her and the kids. This is what happened on CC. There were no money saving tips on there. It just turned out to be an extension of her me, me, me blog.

~~~~~~~~
My first instinct was to say that she doesn't understand what she's supposed to do, based on my opinion that KK has a low IQ. However, I agree with you about KK's bottom line. Her bottom line is that it is always about HER, and how she can use the children to help HER.
The Dancin With Them Thar Stars producers do love their cross promotion! Kendra was prominent in the audience, and the extended promo for Splash did make me want to watch.
The dh is no fun, he thinks the premise is dumb and will be parodied by Saturday Night Live before the week is out. Celebrity competitive truck driving! Celebrity competitive house painting! Celebrity competitive closet organizing! Ms Kreider could be a contestant on that one!
I hope that Milo is a man. The fawning over Kate's body, wanting her to walk hand-in-hand with him, the obsession with Kate's bed and bedtime...it makes sense if it's a guy. However, if Milo is a female, then it's downright creepy, and shows a real mental illness at work there. Kate needs to watch her back.
Kate plays all the manipulative games... shes a gaslighter; a table turner,; projectionist...you name it she does it... and not very well I might add!
She was probably better at it before she went on twitter, and let the world know her every thought.
Sadly, at least 2 of her kids will end up just like her. I hope if that does happen, the others can seperate themselves and find a way to live their lives away from this toxicity.
Oh I forgot about that term gaslighting but it's very true. That's just another word for rewriting history right? It's infuriating especially when she does it to her children.
In fact she is doing gaslighting NOW, first claiming that whole story with the key was ridiculous, the key is always available and not even in her room! (implying Mady flat out lied) and besides no one even wanted to go in there anyway (yeah that's why they went all the way to the top of the stairs then looked disappointed it was locked!), and also making up some bizarre story about how the shots were water. We all did not see Kate drunk and tossing back hard liquor like a pro, that's not how it went down. WE'RE the crazy ones. Gaslighting at its finest!
If Kate can tell us NOW that it was water she was chugging, why couldn't she have mentioned it while she was doing it? "I ordered a club soda. I'm wearing very high heels tonight and thought it would be the smart to not get wobbly." I would have believed her and she would not have to backpedal between what was shown and what she wants everyone to believe.
I'm pretty sure Kendra's manual did not say "You must drink VODKA in those shots, no cheating!"
yep, that is gaslighting. It is the crazy making behavior that narcisists do where they say one thing one minute and then next deny it. Not only do they rewrite history, they tell you that what you heard them say before was absolutely ludicrious they would ever say that. Even if you had it on tape, they would say your forged it!
Or in Kate's case, you would say it was editing. Yes, I did that eye roll, but not in that spot at that time. I eye rolled wearing that exact outfit , sitting at that exact table but it was 6 days prior to that conversation and it was in regards to an old joke.
yep, gaslighting.....
Can you imagine how exhausting it would be to be her child? Growing up I had a rather close relative who would embellish anything ever said to them and even though most of the time it was harmless, it was infuriating to hear them re-tell something you told them with a big flourish or twist. It's just annoying when people twist, turn and gaslight. Needless to say, we don't really keep in touch much.
Chelsea Handler just read a letter asking her to be a "Celebrity Mystery Guest" on SPLASH for $7500. She told Chuy she didn't want his scraps.
It also said she wouldn't have to dive, just jump.
Why is it any more creepier because it's a woman? Gender makes a difference how? It's creepy, obsessive behavior no matter how you look at it. I personally don't think Milo being a man would suddenly make that behavior okay, do you? Since you seem to be implying that sexual orientation defines whether this is acceptable or not, would it make a difference if Milo was a lesbian? Then it would be okay, because it would make perfect sense for someone to act that way if they're attracted to someone?
I guess I'm just missing your point. I think the behavior indicates someone with at best a low self esteem, regardless of their gender.
If Milo is determined to do it, the kind of talk she throws at Kate belongs in a private conversation, not a public access line. I hope Kate is mortified by it. But we'll never know. She may just love it. It's affirmation of all her hard work to be sculpted and gaunt.
I don't remember this line in Steve's bio for his security firm before:
He has been the central point of contact and liaison with marketing and major corporate management operations...
Someone upthread asked if Steve and Gina were still in Kate's life. I have no idea since nothing has appeared in the tabloids and Kate never mentions him, but I bet my bottom dollar he accommpanied her to LA for the filming of Wife Sway. She simply does not travel by air alone.
In regard to Milo, this person is infatuated with Kate's body, but Milo could be male or female. I am not thrown off by the female, southern voice people heard call in to some radio program. A male can imitiate a female voice over the phone (think Manti Te'o's fake girlfriend). Milo could be a fan stalker, psycho or someone hired to be Kate's Twitter cheer leader. Milo (Fired Up for Kate) used to post on BM's site, so I have to wonder if she has any insight or was taken in too.
Milo must be: horribly bored, horribly lonely,
horribly incapacitated (meaning in a chair or bed a lot) and/or horribly unaware of what is appropriate for public tweeting.
Maybe she is the one who needs a job to keep her fingers busy and her mind occupied with something other than Kate Gosselin.
I hope she has some genuine, lasting happiness in her life that has nothing to do with her
twitter friends. Really, I do.
What did I miss? I didn't see any comment about Jon??
I just saw she has a lot of 'work' on her desk and that her big announcement was those products she ordered? I admit to not really reading her Twitter in much detail!
what did she say NOW?
*************************************************
There was nothing about Kate's behavior to indicate that she was drunk. You saw what you wanted to see. I'm not much of a drinker, but I have plenty of friends who can do more than one shot without getting drunk, so even if it were alcohol and not water, doing a shot does not automatically make you drunk.
Ok, I saw the rude tweet. She is despicable as always. What I worry is she is either brainwashing the kids or terrorizing them into 'agreance' with her re: their own dad..
Just a few random thoughts here. We've heard from more than one source that Jon is the parent who is most closely involved with the kids' schooling. I can see him wanting copies of the kids' reports and projects. I can't see KK wanting them, because they are just "clutter". However, I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that she took them just for spite, so Jon couldn't have them.
I wonder what "ratin' turn around" Milo's referring to, re KKs DWTS appearances. As alreadypointed out, DWTS has always been one of the top rated shows. It's not like the ratings went from cancellation levels to #1 when she appeared.
Slightly OT -- It was in this morning's news that a local woman was arrested and charged with felonious assault and child endangerment for hitting her 4 year old with a wooden spoon. Too bad the local authorities in KKs area haven't done the same to her.
Kate's response to the tweeter who suggested that divorcing Jon was the bet thing she did should have not been touched with a 10-foot pole. Suggesting that she is happier now is not wrong at all. I'll bet Jon is happier too.
My first marriage ended in divorce and guess what? I was far happier and the marriage NEEDED to END. Now, we didn't have kids, but if we did, I would hope that I would have been able to separate the fact that I moved on and am happy from my kids thinking it's great and happy!!
Divorce is not great for such little kids (and I won't even begin with filming it!) and I do not believe that IF Jon is so marginalized and absent from their lives, that the kids are happier than ever.
Kids internalize such horrific rejection, IF that's the case and IF that's the case, they wouldn't be farting rainbows and unicorns.
Kate should have responded that she's happier, having moved on, and that her (and Jon) being happier is a better environment for the children. NOT that the 9 of them are happy together, implying (yet again) that Jon is not in the picture. The family unit still consists of 10 people.
2 girls were arrested for threatening the Stubenville, OH rape victim on FB and Twitter. This poor teen was violated unspeakably and I can't imagine having to testify in a trial and look at images of being abused when you have no memory of the assault whatsoever, and realizing that so many people could have helped you, but didn't.
Then the victim gets harassed because the town doesn't like a couple of their good ol' boys getting justice served to them? Tough.
I'm starting to get the impression that social media has a whole different view of marketing than anything I ever learned. Perhaps good presentation isn't important. I studied commercial photography for several years, and getting the perfect shot was not easy but it was required to sell a product.
Now it seems that just having people represent you who have a lot of contacts is the better way...just get the name out there. I wonder if that Stuart McCullim happened to see Kate's blog with the fake 7 million hits (lololol) and figured he'd send her a couple of boxes and see if she could get a small percentage of her viewers to subscribe. I read some of his tweets yesterday. That's what he does. He offered boxes to several people. If they and/or Kate don't work out it's no skin off his nose, people are hearing the name "Wantable."
This types of business remind me of Mary Kaye, Tupperware etc., the businesses that have home parties. When you start out you bug your friends to to go parties and hope that eventually things will grow and each party will lead to more parties. It's not easy to do and it requires a lot more work that one realizes when they start out. Those who make it treat it as a full time job.You have to be on it constantly. Kate won't be doing that. She'll make $10 per sale. IF she sold one box every day she'd make $300 a month. Not even enough for a fry-job on her hair at a upscale NY salon. She'll need a whole lot of Milos to get this job off the ground.
I tried it once with a company that sold children's educational books and toys, really high quality toys and wonderful books. I booked a lot of parties but I never made much and I was constantly trying to think up new ways to get the word out. Social media helps but you have to follow through. Kate thinks she'll sit on her bed in her room and see money rolling in from her fans. It makes me laugh.
Sounds like a fancy way of saying Steve answered the phone for Kate. A glorified assistant.
I had never heard of this product before yesterday. I noticed that halfway through that blog post I still had no idea what exactly this product was and in fact was pretty confused. I thought it was some free thing for doing surveys for most of the blog post and I couldn't wrap my mind around it. Even by the end of the blog post I still wasn't completely sure how it worked and had to read elsewhere to get a better sense.
Anyway point being, if the reader doesn't know what something is within the first paragraph of a blog post, your blog stinks.
There was nothing about Kate's behavior to indicate that she was drunk. You saw what you wanted to see. I'm not much of a drinker, but I have plenty of friends who can do more than one shot without getting drunk, so even if it were alcohol and not water, doing a shot does not automatically make you drunk.
---------
That's not the point. Nobody is saying she was three sheets to the wind, or she was cold sober. It was the appearance that she was downing shots that was the concern. Why put yourself out there, sitting at a bar pretending to do shots, even if it were just water? What kind of a message does that send to kids -- you see your mother at a bar drinking with the best of them? Kids are impressionable. They see their mother doing it, so it's okay, even if there were gingerale in the glass, and on national television. She shouldn't have been at a bar. Period. Kids' peers aren't going to know that it wasn't booze in the glass. They see their friends' mother as being a lush and high-five them. Great role model there and I bet exactly what the parishioners at her church wanted to see.
She once said she would flip burgers if she had to. Here's the thing, I can hold my head a lot higher flipping burgers than I could working for some company that preys on people that really aren't very savvy shoppers. Ethical question, could you promote such a product? Is it wrong? I'm not sure she will ever understand that it's very important to many people to have integrity about their work as it is the paycheck.
**************************************
Nobody is being "preyed upon." Some people think the surprise element is fun. Others may think it's worth the gamble to try new products at a price break, even though they may not end up liking everything that they get. Not my thing, but that doesn't make it unethical, nor does it make those who choose to buy these types of subscriptions "less savvy" than you. It just means that they make different choices. And despite someone sharing a negative review of this particular product, there are also positive reviews from happy customers.
Every dime you spend should not be done in the name of making a wise financial investment. Sometimes it's just about having fun. I'm sure (at least I would hope) that you have spent $ that will not have some amazing return on investment, but the enjoyment you derive makes it worth the $.
This types of business remind me of Mary Kaye, Tupperware etc., the businesses that have home parties
*****
I always hated those parties and avoided them like the plague if at all socially possible. It also looked like the hostess had a great deal of work to do for the party-- get the house ready, prep/buy food and refreshments etc. By the time all is said and done, I never thought it was worth it to order a couple items for free.
I don't view Wantable as a pyramid Amway scheme and think there's a market for such a service, but I really don't see most adult women going for it.
Wearing make up, at least for me, takes a lot of thought about what exactly works for me. Then, I stick with it. I'm very brand loyal when it comes to beauty products and don't switch things up all that often, lest I look like a raccoon or clown. I also ignore most fashion "trends" like neon and this season's darling, Kelly Green. I look like poo on toast wearing that color!
I buy cosmetic products that are higher end-- more than drug store, less than Neiman Marcus and I spend the money knowing that the products work. Spending less money on more products that just don't work and get tossed is a waste.
There was nothing about Kate's behavior to indicate that she was drunk. You saw what you wanted to see. I'm not much of a drinker, but I have plenty of friends who can do more than one shot without getting drunk, so even if it were alcohol and not water, doing a shot does not automatically make you drunk.
&&&
I should have said on her way to getting drunk. You're right we did not see her actually drunk. It was a 30 second clip. But since the only reason most people toss back shots is to get themselves drunk (you can't exactly appreciate texture and flavor when you are downing things that fast) then she was on her way. But it wasn't just shots. She also had a huge Long Island Iced Tea that she admits was real alcohol. I tried it once years ago and was tipsy a third of a way through and had to stop. It's almost straight alcohol.
The point being she always has a different story for what we saw. She's always gaslighting. Fool me once. We're always the crazy ones. What about her explanation about Alaska, that the kids wanted to go home? Huh? That's not what Sarah Palin and her father told us, they were very clear the kids were having a blast and wanted to say, and it's not what the kids told us. Perhaps once in awhile her story is true, but because of things like that she has no credibility anymore.
I guess I'm just missing your point. I think the behavior indicates someone with at best a low self esteem, regardless of their gender.
--------------------
I knew as soon as I hit "publish" that it wasn't going to come out right. What I meant was if it's a guy, it makes more sense to be enamored with her body than if it's a "happily married female" with two teenagers. The tweets just seem to indicate that it's a man. I guess it's the way the comments are worded. Either way, his/her obsession is creepy. No question about it.
Wearing make up, at least for me, takes a lot of thought about what exactly works for me. Then, I stick with it. I'm very brand loyal when it comes to beauty products and don't switch things up all that often, lest I look like a raccoon or clown.
&&&
Same here, myself and most women I know have long found and settled into the brands that work for them. I wear mostly Laura Mercier and a bit of Origins. I'm pale and I haven't found a lot of high quality brands that not only look good but last. I splurge on LM foundation but I've found it's so thick that I only need a TINY bit, so it lasts months, and I never need to reapply later in the day, it still looks good. I would wear cheaper covergirl in college but go through it much faster. Anyway, I just can't see the value in a "surprise" box for my purposes. If I buy makeup, I want it to be from a brand I know and trust and that I know looks good. I wouldn't dream of trying some new foundation at this stage when I know what works for me. Also for people with sensitive skin or allergies you wouldn't want to introduce a lot of unknown products.
Maybe if you were a young woman and trying to decide on your brands. But since they seem to contain obscure brands anyway and are probably from companies trying to either unload a surplus or get people excited about some new product that may not withstand the test of time, it could be a wasted effort. I can't picture this company really lasting. I wonder what the average length of time is for sticking with the program. I'm guessing no more than a couple months.
Just to pop my head in for a moment- the various 'Zelda's writing the past few days (Zelda in New Hampshire, 'plain' Zelda) is NOT me. I post pretty infrequently, but just wanted to clarify that ;)
IIRC, she enjoyed wine with dinner, then a Long Island Iced Tea and then not-a-shots (if you believe that).
That adds up.
If I started drinking booze on my 3 hour limo ride to NYC to go clubbing, I'd have arrived at the hotel room and crawled into bed, let alone continued drinking until late at night.
Again, 2 very poor examples for Kate's kids. Drink in the limo and get the party started in the middle of the day (why??) and throw back shots (which sole purpose to to get your drunk on) at a stripper pole club.
You don't have to be a teetotaler to get pissed on ONE Long Island Iced Tea. I had a co worker who, one day after work at happy hour, got through ONE of those and was slurring and had to be driven home.
To wit from Wiki:
A Long Island Iced Tea is a type of mixed drink that tastes similar to iced tea and is made with, among other ingredients, vodka, gin, tequila, and rum. A popular version mixes equal parts vodka, gin, tequila, rum, and triple sec with 1½ parts sour mix and a splash of cola.
This is not an elegant cocktail, rather, it packs a wallop and delivers maximum booze in minimal volume.
Look, Kate can drink, but don't give me this Pollyanna story time and again about how Christian you are, how little you drink and what a rarity it is, so much so that one bottle of wine lasts a very long time in your house.
Nobody is being "preyed upon." Some people think the surprise element is fun.
I respectfully disagree. I do think products like this, and like on QVC, prey on people. I do think there are a certain percentage of their customers who fall hard and fast for the idea of a "present" or the latest and greatest not really thinking it through. If these people didn't exist, infomercials and QVC wouldn't always push their three easy payments so much. If you need to make three easy payments for a broom, you shouldn't buy the broom.
That doesn't mean there are plenty of people who are thinking through this financial decision and making the right one for them. I'm excluding those people. But make no mistake there are plenty of people with basements full of crap they bought on QVC who are struggling to pay the rent.
And I also disagree--I think every financial decision you make should be a wise one, including gifts to yourself. That doesn't mean you can't have room in your budget for a little fun or impulse (as long as your kids get to partake in their own fun too) but it should still be a conscious, well thought decision. I don't agree with splurges. That's how you get yourself in a financial wreck. If you have a splurge type personality, I would ask myself why. What is it I'm trying to fill up with stuff and things? I'm a grown woman, why do I need a surprise so bad to feel good? Make no mistake, there are a lot of much deeper issues going on for many of those taken in by QVC.
Maybe if you were a young woman and trying to decide on your brands.
One of the nice things about being mature is knowing who you are and what works for you. I'm all for being open to things, but old enough to make a judgement call and say "thanks, but no thanks".
Wantable would be really fun for the younger demographic with the disposable income to spend on things sight unseen.
More power to them if it makes them happy.
My sense is like Admin's; I don't see people sticking with a subscription for very long. After a period of time, the clutter of unused and over-represented items would drive me batty.
I'd be making donations to a Thrift shop or women's center sooner rather than later.
But again, I don't think there's anything wrong with Wantable and admire anyone and everyone's entrepreneurial spirit when a worthwhile and value-driven product of offered.
I'm curious to see if Kate posts her "surprise" she receives next month.
I personally believe she didn't sign up for the monthly program. I think she got her freebies for promoting the company and unlike others can walk away from it without obligation.
I will be shocked if she actually subscribed and will be dishing out $40-80 a month on "surprise" jewelry and makeup.
I personally would never buy makeup or jewelry sight unseen. Especially monthly. Seems bizarre to me.
I think there is a shoe company that does the same thing. You enter your styles and likes, etc and each month they send you a pair of shoes.
I really don't get subscribing to such a thing. I'm not sure Kate's fans are subscribing to it either. Have any said they did? And if they said they did, I don't think I actually believe they did.
I had no idea this subscription box thing was such a craze. There's everything from adult items to vegan box subscriptions available. Interesting! I can see the draw for some people - the rush of getting a surprise every month.
Check out "Hoarding: Buried Alive." Many of those people started out that way.
Thanks for the ratings link, it looks like the last episode Kate was on scored 13.4 million and the following week when she was gone was 13.2 million. So it seems to me pretty logical to give Kate credit for the .2 million.
You know when a huge drop in ratings happened?? When Jake the Bachelor was eliminated. They lost a million and pretty much never got it back! Women love The Bachelor. He could have brought in huge crowds.
Another interesting tidbit, with the exception of one week where there was just a slight uptick, the first five episodes Kate was a part of actually LOST viewers, every week it went down.
I don't understand their delusion. The numbers are all right there. If anything, the argument is that Kate was hurting ratings not helping.
Down the Shore I've seen a few minutes of that show I can't watch. But yes there is a lot of mental illness going on for some impulse shoppers and these companies are goldmines for them.
SG I don't think any of us seem to "get" it. I really thought at least some people would chime in and say oh yeah I do something like this and this is why it's so great and it's a good deal and trust me it's not a scam because of A, B, and C. Well I guess it doesn't surprise me. It doesn't seem like something savvy people typically go for. ;)
Someone recently mentioned Mom of KT here. I think they said they knew her and didn't believe it was her.
I recall when she was posting there that I questioned the validity. The mods at IW swore it was her and that they verified it and met her in person, etc. They claimed they wouldn't risk their "reputation" allowing a fake to post as Kate's mother.
I've also seen a pic of one of the mods there with a woman they claim was Kate's mom. I don't recall where I saw it, but I know I did. I don't know if it was her or not because I don't know what she looks like.
This was the last statement/apology Mom of KT made on the IW blog:
"I am posting these comments to apologize to my family (specifically Kevin and Jodi) for the comments I made about them. It was wrong to say those things in a public forum (or anywhere actually). I went against my own motto: If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. I am sorry, and it won’t happen again."
If it wasn't really Kate's mom wouldn't she have went public, or at least to Radar Onine, and denied it?
I can't begin to imagine living my life with such rigidity. I have a hobby that has cost me thousands of dollars over the years and there is no financial return on investment whatsoever. That $ is gone, gone, gone and I don't regret it in the least. In place of that cash, I have memories to last a lifetime and a slew of friends I would not otherwise have met. My retirement fund would be a whole lot bigger if I did I not indulge in this particular hobby, but my life would not be richer. In the end, that's what matters to me.
Tucker, I think my anti-clutter personality plays a huge role too. I'm with you, I don't want a single thing kicking around I can't use. And my personality is such that even if *I* don't want it as long as it's a perfectly good item I can't stand to just throw it out. So that means asking around if any friends want it or an extra trip to Good Will or the Clothing Cupboard or something so I can unload it. Yep, would drive me nuts. Young people, I can understand that. A 38 year old woman who has surely been exposed to more makeup brands than the average woman due to being on TV and even had consultation from professional makeup artists, something much more than most of us will ever get, I don't see it. I can't believe she hasn't settled on her brands by now or still cares about a present. The greater point being it's just about money, getting it for herself, taking it from vulnerable sheeple. Doesn't matter what it is, from makeup to protein bars to exercise equipment, it's about taking. I don't believe she is really passionate about this product. I think she says yes to anything that has a paycheck attached.
I think it would depend on the product when it comes to the allure of the "surprise" each month.
I know people join coffee or wine clubs because they enjoy trying a variety of each, etc. Shoes, makeup and jewelry? I guess I just personally can't imagine being surprised with such things. Who's to say you'd have something that coordinates with the jewelry or shoes, etc?
Every dime you spend should not be done in the name of making a wise financial investment. Sometimes it's just about having fun.
---------------------
Sometimes it's also about making sure your kids have clothing, there is food on the table and the rent is paid. I would think that there are quite a few people in that position who just can't splurge on themselves by buying unknown products that they likely will end up not using.
Having fun comes at a price, and if it's going to mean that your $40 a month SHOULD go towards an electric bill, that's where you spend it -- not on having fun by opening a gift box that you might not need or want. It's not FUN when those people find their electric shut off, but what the heck, at least they have surprise jewelry wrapped in a pink scarf.
Yeah, I'm not a subscriber to surprise boxes. I once signed up for a CSA (community supported agriculture) box delivery because it was a Groupon type deal.
I didn't subscribe again.
I wasn't terribly disappointed with the contents, but for me, it's ALL about going to the farmers markets and picking out what strikes me as ripe, delicious and good value.
I might see getting proteins delivered (especially beef etc. in bulk from a reputable source), but again, have access to meats at my markets.
I personally feel that celebrities that use their image to sell anything to the public should be held liable for people who end up being scammed.
I see well-known celebrities in commercials for mortgages and loans, products (such as Kate's ab machine) etc. I've even seen them promote credit cards.
There are some people who respect these actors and don't believe they would endorse something they don't believe in or use themselves. I do think it's dishonest. Maybe not a "scam" in legal terms, but unethical.
That's not what I said at all. I have a hobby that is expensive too with no return nor am I trying to make a return: Photography. I have a Canon 7d and a couple L lenses. But, every purchase was done consciously and not impulsively. I know how much I spend on it. I never open a statement and say whoa I can't believe I just blew X amount last month what was I thinking?? That's not rigidity. I spend the money, I just know what I'm doing. I didn't say DENY yourself fun things, I said think it through. If you don't pick a name for your next comment it's not going through. Anonymous is too hard to follow.
Like the AbCrap machine?
I just want to clear up some things about how Wantable works, because people are thinking that the cost is up to $80 a month.
You can subscribe to receive monthly products, and you would pay $36 for each shipment.
Or you can purchase a box without being subscribed and you would pay $40 for that shipment.
The value of each shipment is guaranteed to be $80 or more, but that's not the price. You're getting $80 worth of products but only paying either $36 or $40 for them.
I looked at Kate's post again. Does anyone remember if in the original post she even mentioned the prices, because there's no mention of them anywhere. Wouldn't that be one of the most important things to include in a review--how much it costs?
I didn't think anyone was talking about hobbies... I thought the comments were about purchasing products, especially ones that are sight unseen.
I've wondered why Kate (to my knowledge) never hooked up with QVC, which is in her neck of the woods. That company practically prints money.
Can you imagine the money that would pour in if she went on QVC hawking her good bra?
SG if you're interested there is a lot of blog chatter about QVC and the ethics of it.
Here is a good one: http://chuckiesblurbs.blogspot.com/2012/03/response-to-south-parks-qvccash4gold.html
Here is another: http://www.bankruptcylawnetwork.com/qvc-equals-debt-not-friendship/
"Be aware that QVC and everyone else with these informercials are in the business to solely take your money. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM. These businesses pay a tremendous amount of money to professionals to find out what is the quickest and slickest way to pick your pocket and make your feel good about going broke. America is in trouble because businesses today are greedy and just want to pad their pockets at any costs."
Reading the definition of a "confidence trick" leads me to feel that the celebrities that use their celebrity to lead credence to a service or product (that they themselves don't use or pay to have) is pretty close to a scam.
A lot of naive people have "confidence" in celebrities.
Definition:
A confidence trick (also known as a scam) is an attempt to defraud a person or group after first gaining their confidence.
A confidence artist is an individual operating alone or in concert with others who exploits characteristics of the human psyche such as dishonesty, honesty, vanity, compassion, credulity, irresponsibility, naïveté, or greed.
SG, no, no one was talking about hobbies. It's apples and oranges anyway. Would I sign up for a "surprise" camera gift? No, that's lunacy and stupid. Would I save up to get this lens because I researched it and it's the one I want for the best price? Yep. Plenty of people have hobbies, have fun, but they work it INTO the budget they don't just do it impulsively and before they know it oops, not enough to pay the electric this month.
Anyway, I don't feel very charitable toward people doing this kind of thing who turn around and tell me they can't afford gymnastics or the movies.
Just think if Kate didn't spend $40-80 a month on these surprises, that's more food she could put on the table and less she would have to exploit her children to do so.
SG -- I don't understand it either. Why would you pay $40 for a surprise box of jewelry if you have no idea what's in there? If you have money to shell out for new jewelry per month, why wouldn't you to to the department store or boutique and get EXACTLY what you want? Selecting items for yourself can be fun. You know what you want, you save for it, and you buy it.
Kate is a twit,
Thanks. I'm not sure about anyone else but when I wrote $40-80 a month I was referring to how much it would cost if you signed up for just one product ($40) or both jewelry and makeup ($80) like Kate claims she did.
I don't understand this anonymous thing....what's wrong with choosing a name and sticking to it?
When anonymous has a good point, I'd like to discuss it sometimes, but who wants to discuss anything with someone who can't own what they say.
I don't understand the reasoning...they're just as anonymous with a consistent name as they are with anonymous.
It seems like anonymous is used when the viewpoint might be a little different than the general blog consensus. Which makes me wonder about the motivation of the post, then.
Although I wouldn't purchase makeup without trying it out first(like you can do at most department stores or places like Ulta), I can see other people maybe buying one box to see what it's like.
However, I would most definitely not buy jewelry sight unseen. I've seen some of the jewelry they offer through reading some of their reviews and it's definitely not my taste.
I wonder how many of Kate's fans will purchase these products based on her review alone, and just because she's Kate. If they have any sense, they will look at other reviews and not depend solely on Kate's word alone.
But as the saying goes "There's a sucker born every minute" and I'm sure that's one of Kate's mantras.
What's next for Kate? Setting up a stand on the Atlantic City boardwalk, selling juicers or kitchen knives?
I don't understand getting "mystery boxes" of makeup, either. If I was the age of the tups or twins, I would have loved it, but as an adult? I'm a fishbelly-pale redhead– it's VERY hard to find makeup that flatters my complexion ('ivory' shades are too dark!)
Geez, just go to the makeup counter at any department store if you want a handful of samples.
Make-up is a hobby to some people. If someone wants to spend *their* money to buy products, sight unseen, why do you care? There is no "scam" here; no one is claiming that they paid for something that they did not receive.
There is a link to a product on this web site. If some poor soul buys a basement full of Bento boxes because the link was here, is that the Administrator's responsibility? I would assume your answer would be no.
Of course QVC et al exist to get people to buy, buy, buy. They are not social workers, they are for-profit businesses.
Julie Carson May still shows Kate on her website.
SG-thanks for clarify what you meant about the cost. I misunderstood.
But like I said, Kate didn't even mention any prices on her blog at all. I would think that would be the most important part of any review.
I saw one review that even broke down the actual retail prices of each item, and gave a link to where you could by them, so that you could actually see the value of what you were getting for your $36 or $40. That is what I consider an excellent way to write a review.
This is the review, and it looks like she got the same makeup box as Kate. Compare her review to Kate's. She put in the time and effort-Kate just put in the exclamation points.
Just think if Kate didn't spend $40-80 a month on these surprises,
IMO, Kate ISN'T spending $40-80/month. She got two boxes for free. In exchange she wrote a blog post about it.
Not that she made any of that perfectly clear or anything.
Don't forget, when Kate was at the BlogHer conference snagging all those freebies, one of the deals was those people who got the free stuff would feature the product on their blogs. Twice a woman tweeted Kate saying Kate still had not put the product she represented on her blog. Kate never replied and never put a review on her blog.
Its Tuesday, so here are some random thoughts on DWTS premiere.
According to TV by the numbers.zaptoit.com, overnight ratings, DWTS had over 16 million viewers, and had more than twice the number of viewers than the Biggest Loser finale that was direct competition.
I really like Kellie Pickler, hope she goes far. Zendaya is very talented and cute. Ingo Rademacher, bachelor Sean, Jacoby are all great eye candy and I hope they go far. I love that Wynonna called Tony ”a rock star”, glad he had a partner who appreciates him! With her work ethic, and her mom Naomi pushing for voters to call, and a husband named Cactus recovering from such a serious injury, and Saint Tony as her partner, she should go far.
Dorothy Hamills story was inspiring, I didn't know she had breast cancer.
Not so talented were Lisa, Andy Dick, DL Hugely, but they all tried their best. I do love Lisa s adorable dog! Aly the gymnast just doesn't connect with me.
What does everyone else think?
I'm actually intrigued by Splash and might watch. No NCAA basketball on tonight anyway.
I wasn't responding to someone on Social Security with a limited budget. I was responding to a young attorney who I am sure can spend a little now and then without risking her financial future. My point was and is that if you live your life constantly worrying about how much cash you will have piled up 40 years down the road to such an extreme that you will make a huge deal out of spending $36/mo for a box of make-up when you probably early a healthy six-figure income, you are missing out on life. That doesn't mean that you don't invest for your future, etc.
I can't begin to imagine living my life with such rigidity.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Maybe you can't begin to imagine it because you've never had to do it. When the money isn't there to spend on $40 gift boxes, then it isn't there. Your life isn't going to be any less rewarding because you don't get to open a surprise box each month or indulge in an expensive hobby.
There are those who are rigid because they need to be rigid. It's called getting your priorities straight and not wasting money on a hobby or product just for your own enjoyment, or for the sake of having fun, fun, fun.
If you have the money to blow on such an indulgence, and are never going to miss that $40 or $80 each money, then that's another story. Not everyone, however, can do that, and for them, budgeting their money is necessary to make sure the needs of the family are met. You can't pay a gas bill with eyeliner; nor will a piece of costume jewelry make sure that your phone service isn't suspended.
Kate is a twit said...This is the review, and it looks like she got the same makeup box as Kate. Compare her review to Kate's. She put in the time and effort-Kate just put in the exclamation points.
Let's play a game. Guess which one was written by Kate:
Wantable has an easy, yet comprehensive, style quiz that helps them determine which products would fit the individual subscriber the best, whether you chose jewelry or beauty, and then they cater the box specifically to you based on your answers! February’s boxes contained a lovely scarf as a bonus gift! Here’s a peek inside my February Beauty Box:
Let me explain… So basically there’s this website that allows you to take two super fun and super quick surveys about your makeup and accessories preferences. (And when I say they were fun, I am not kidding you!) You click on happy or sad faces to answer. No brain power needed, moms! It was like an “easy peezy” questionnaire to ascertain your coloring, makeup likes and jewelry top picks (silver vs gold etc).
I wonder why Kate doesn't grift from Mally Beauty anymore for her makeup needs. Did Ms Mally quit sending her freebies?
From RH's book, this is part of the email Kate wrote to her (keep your barf buckets close by):
"...in the shipment of 'new stuff' (which I can't wait for!!! Fun new stuff to try/ love!) can you include lots of medium foundation/ powder (sorry don't know it's real name off hand)...."
and this:
Subject: Hey you!
Just checking to see if my latest shipment made it into the mail? I'm so so low on supply... Scary... I NEED to be beautiful, as you know! :) Thanks again! I'll be looking for it! If it's not been sent yet, the light pink natural eye shadow 'natural2knockout'... I could use another... So love it! :) Kate
*****
I went to the Mally Beauty website. She's been in business now for seven years, so that would have meant Kate grifted from her from the beginning (the emails were sent in Dec 2008). Kate the parasite was sucking off a brand new host who was just starting out. She makes my skin crawl.
Geez, just go to the makeup counter at any department store if you want a handful of samples.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
I did that last week. A gal was walking around the makeup department, handing out cards for free samples for an upscale product. I took it to that section and she "matched" my skin to the foundation and told me if it wasn't right that i should bring it back for another shade. In natural light, it was way off, so I took the card back and they gave me another shade. I'm glad I hadn't paid $65 for the foundation, only to find out it wasn't right, and then have to box it back up, stand in line at the post office to return it, and make calls to have my account credited!
"These businesses pay a tremendous amount of money to professionals to find out what is the quickest and slickest way to pick your pocket and make your feel good about going broke."
Exactly!
One of those ways is to mass purchase overstock or discontinued products for pennies - there are acres and acres of warehouses filled with this stuff all over North America - throw a handful of it in a box wrap it up in a pretty pink scarf and label it a "surprise".
If these products are worth $80 retail, then why aren't they being sold for that? Is it because Wantables or any other such company, love you and want to do you a favour?
No, the company pays about $2 (likely even less than that) to put the box together and charges you $40. Is shipping included, I wonder? I bet it's not.
I hate it when people tout that this kind of thing is harmless fun. It's not, it's big business and sorry Anon, but yes, gullible people are being preyed upon.
Why on earth would you WASTE your hard earned money on a "surprise". The very notion is as ridiculous as candy bars coming in a Fun Size.
How can it really be a surprise when you know it's coming? You know it's going to be make up or jewelry depending on the type of box you CHOOSE. How is that a surprise?
It's a form of lottery is what it is and it's dangerous, as someone said above (though I think their auto-correct was messing with them), it feeds an addiction.
Rant over, my apologies, these things really get my dander up.
OT TV schedule correction! NCAA ” first four” games are tonight on truTV cable channel. I am going to watch. Back in 2011 when NCAA first introduced this first four concept, VCU wad one of the teams, and made it all the way to the final four. could Liberty or Middle Tennessee or Madison or Boise State make a similar run? This is the most fun and REALEST reality TV around!
I can't begin to imagine living my life with such rigidity.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Maybe you can't begin to imagine it because you've never had to do it. When the money isn't there to spend on $40 gift boxes, then it isn't there. Your life isn't going to be any less rewarding because you don't get to open a surprise box each month or indulge in an expensive hobby.
There are those who are rigid because they need to be rigid. It's called getting your priorities straight and not wasting money on a hobby or product just for your own enjoyment, or for the sake of having fun, fun, fun.
If you have the money to blow on such an indulgence, and are never going to miss that $40 or $80 each money, then that's another story. Again, and maybe this time the Administrator will actually publish my comment, my post was addressed to a young attorney, not to someone on a limited income. Obviously, you should not buy $40 surprise packages if it means not paying your electric bill. That is something entirely different than bemoaning the fact that a surprise make-up box is not a "wise financial investment." It will never be one! That's not the point.
Saving money to pay your bills is not rigidity. Analyzing every purchase you make to determine the worthiness of the investment, when you are not on a limited income, is. IMO, obviously.
Some of us believe businesses should not just make money but be socially responsible too. Bento is my link and is a business that does that. It's an excellent product, you get what you pay for, save on buying paper lunch sacs, and help the environment. They do not prey, mislead, or try to swindle you into thinking youre getting a too good to be true deal. It is what it is. They are not preying on low information consumers like the qvc type businesses. I'm not going to apologize for not getting excited about businesses that encourage wasteful spending, make wasteful spending easier by doing three easy payments or act now before it's gone tactics or "surprises" and presents. There are many many businesses out there that do not resort to preying type tactics that are wildly successful. There is more to business than just money.
I just wandered over to Milo's twitter page since she's so quiet.
She's only made one tweet today, not addressed to anyone:
Fired Up 4 Kate @MiloandJack
We should be too big to take offense...and too kind to give it!
I don't know who she had in mind when she tweeted it but this reply was right on:
Firey Topaz @FireyTopaz1
@MiloandJack Yes, and may I add leaving @bullyville to handle real offenders?
Anonymously, people who are financially secure who "worry" about throwing 36 bucks a month on a stupid product...I'm guessing that's how they got to be secure in the first place. Not blowing money. Just because you may have money doesn't mean you shouldn't think where it goes. What's that phrase? A fool and his money are soon parted. And I'm guessing if a grown woman thinks this product is a good idea there are many other money sucking schemes she would fall for too. It doesn't stop here for many of these consumers sadly.
Once again though no one said don't spend money. What was said was don't blow money. There's a difference. I am no tightwad but I steer wide left of things like this that smell "too good to be true." Usually they are.
I also don't think she wants to bother with the baggage an older man would probably have and just wants someone she can control. That may be easy to find when you and boyfriend are 22 years old, but it's a different story when you are 38. I also think she doesn't want to support anyone else. She would want a man to make his own money. And chances are if you are making your own money you have half a brain and wouldn't go anywhere near Kate in the first place. She will never marry again much less even date. Her children will be estranged by the time they are 30 and she will be old and alone.
****
Exactly. When Kate met Jon, they were both in their early 20's. Kate hadn't developed into the complete shrew we see today. She was always controlling and manipulative, but at that time, she could turn on the charm when she deemed it necessary. Jon really didn't stand a chance once she turned her sights on him.
Now, Kate is older, even more rigid and demanding, and wants to control all aspects. On CWS, she was determined to make Hank Sr. agree with her point of view. Hank was polite about it, but you could tell he would probably have preferred to tell her to shut her yap. A successful man, someone who has done well in the business world and has a good income - won't have any interest in becoming Kate's doormat and whipping boy.
The closest she came to finding a new man was hiring Steve Nield as her "head of security." I don't believe we've seen any photographic evidence that Nield is still hanging around - unless it's for a paid gig. I think Nield was in it for the money, and no other reason. He's a user just like Kate, but in his case - he's rational and cold-blooded about it. I guess that's why Gina stuck with him - she must have known that her husband was just earning big bucks, and if it meant putting up with a crazy lady, so be it.
For now, she has control of those children while they are in her custody. She controls every minute of their lives. I couldn't believe it when Kendra was with the girls feeding the chickens, and they decided to take a detour and see the tree house. Kendra said something about going off schedule and having dinner late, as if it were a huge deal. In Kate's miserable world - it is apparently a big deal. To be that rigid is unnatural, abnormal, and it has to be absolute misery to be in her presence for more than a few minutes. No way any grown man would willingly stand for it.
The man who launched Wantables is the multi-millionaire Jalem Getz (Halloween Express). He calls himself a "serial entrepreneur".
"A fool and his money are soon parted."
Yes, that's exactly the expression and this Wantable's company is happily lining its pockets as a result.
It reminds me of another quote that we've seen often here in respect to reality television in general...
"There's a sucker born every minute." - P.T. Barnum
Notice the company name...WANTables, it's not NEEDables or LIFEables. In that respect, at least it's a kernel of truth in advertising.
These are products you may WANT. Nevermind that there's a chance you might NOT WANT them but hey, why quibble over semantics?
Do people really believe that a company with 1-10 employees is actually going to carefully examine the highly sophisticated survey they filled out and peruse their extended inventory of products and hand pick items "just for you"?
For me, I think the bottom line is the assertion that you are treating yourself to a monthly "surprise".
It's not a bleeping surprise if 1) You know about it and 2) Already paid for it.
All you are doing is paying good money to play a game of chance. It's gambling, plain and simple.
To be that rigid is unnatural, abnormal, and it has to be absolute misery to be in her presence for more than a few minutes. No way any grown man would willingly stand for it.
*****
I also think by and large, Kate's dating pool is divorced men with kids. I don't see Kate as being capable of loving or caring about someone else's children. She bemoans having 8 all the time, and I think dealing with a blended family would set her teeth on edge.
I don't recall Jon ever whining about 8 kids or more, with Liz's children. I think Jon is more capable of making a blended family work. Kate, not so much.
Steve Neild-- who knows. It doesn't seem like he's a part of the G's lives anymore, or perhaps he's just hired for the occasional trip of Kate's.
You would think that Steve and Gina would interact with the Gosselins (Kate and kids), given the extensive amount of intimate time spent together (family vacations, home visits etc) for so many years.
I guess Kate believes her sheeple will buy these products. After all, if they bought her good bra story, they'll buy anything.
If these products are worth $80 retail, then why aren't they being sold for that? Is it because Wantables or any other such company, love you and want to do you a favour?
=========================
What are these products? Who makes them? Are there any well-known brands?
Are there any descriptions of the jewelry you'd be getting? if I go into a department store to buy jewelry, I know many of the brands and their quality. I also know what the retail is, and if I can get them at a good sale price, all the better. I'm just not so sure that ordering a box of surprise jewelry is the wisest decision. Who actually knows if what you are getting has a retail value of $80 or more, and who really pays retail for anything anymore? If I can buy the same, or similar items at 50 percent off in a store, then ordering them from an unknown company really isn't doing me any good.
Of course, it's all about the fun of a surprise.
"The man who launched Wantables is the multi-millionaire Jalem Getz (Halloween Express). He calls himself a "serial entrepreneur"."
Why does that not "surprise" me in the least?
We have Halloween Express stores up here (Canada)too...they rent out store space at the end of August and close up shop by the end of the first week of November.
In the meantime, their stock is overpriced costumes and seasonal novelty items. I got the exact same large plastic cauldron at my local drugstore for half of what Halloween Express was charging.
It's very much a 'get in, make a buck, get out' business style.
Wanna bet most, if not all of these items are made in China...how else would they sell them so cheaply?
I wonder why she didn't have the name brands of the make-up displayed in her picture. Prehaps she didn't get the company's permission to adversite their brand? She was going to make a profit off that so I was thinking it's like what they do in the movie industry; you have to get the company's approval to use their products, otherwise the logo/name are blurred out or covered up.
Wow there's quite an interesting series of articles about the death of Jalem Gertz's stepdaughter. He sounds like a very driven man, his family along for the wild ride.
If I can buy the same, or similar items at 50 percent off in a store, then ordering them from an unknown company really isn't doing me any good.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Exactly. If you have money to burn, extra cash coming in from somewhere and you want to treat yourself to surprises once a month, then go for it. Nobody is saying not to do so. If you can't do that, then you don't. It's really a no-brainer. Unfortunately, though, for some, "things" are just too hard to resist, and then they find themselves digging in the sofa cushions for the money that's needed for the weekly grocery bill. In the end, impulse buying can get you into situations that you'd rather not be in.
I wonder why she didn't have the name brands of the make-up displayed in her picture. Prehaps she didn't get the company's permission to adversite their brand?
&&&&&&&&&&&&&
I googled Wantable Reviews, and others have shown photos of the products and the brands. I think Kate just didn't know that this is what is done in a review. You describe the product, why you like it, and if you'd purchase it again. She either didn't know this is how it's done, or she was too lazy to do it.
Sheri - I went into Halloween Express last October and to say they are overpriced is an understatement. A lot of the items they're peddling can be bought at any dollar store.
Melissa NV - I vote "too lazy to do it"
I am picky about my make-up, too. I like MAC and Clinique and am pretty consistent. I occasionally buy drug-store eyeshadow, but that's it. I am also picky about jewelry, only because I would rather have a few nice pieces than a ton of cheap stuff.
I can't imagine getting a "surprise" box of crap I will never use.
Ha Ha...just went to Jalem.com the site of the 'entreprenuer' of wantable.com
Here's what it says on the about highlight link on the left:
I'm a serial entrepreneur focused on my forth company: Wantable, Inc.
Seriously? You can't even have a good editor up and look over your website for errors. Good Grief, Kate is in such good company.
Joy in Virginia...110,
I think Tony's in trouble this season with Wynonna. I was not impressed last night. In fact, I cringed when I found out they had paired her with him. I swear they did it on purpose so he wouldn't win two years in a row. lol
I truly think it's so ingrained in Kate's psyche at this point that SHE doesn't have to do X, Y, or Z....because she has 8 kids. That's been her mantra for 9 years, and it can happen that a person gets so used to using something as an excuse that they are unable to do much of anything unless they really put forth a lot of effort.
When I had twins, I admit I fell into this trap--I would send my husband to the store because it was easier because I had 2 babies to tend to. When he was at work, I just wouldn't go, it was easier. Did I forget to send a card for someone's birthday--well, I had 2 babies, what do you expect? (I also had 3 other children, but I did milk the twin thing for a long time!)
After a while, I noticed that people weren't so willing to do favors for me--they probably felt that I needed to get used to tending to 2 babies and the day-to-day stuff as well, and it was kind of a shock to me; I'd gotten quite used to being "pampered" (ha ha a pun!)
I can see Kate--having 6 babies at once--being so helpless at first because she had to focus on so many babies and the twins, that she just became helpless. It may be that she simply doesn't know how to do the ordinary things anymore; she got so used to others doing the menial things for her that when she does one, she thinks it's "amazing" and feels the need to tell the world. Only we are not impressed. And she probably has no clue as to why.
Now....she's had a few years to adjust to being as mediocre as the rest of us. At some point, she won't change because she just doesn't want to.
I'm a serial entrepreneur focused on my forth company: Wantable, Inc.
Great post--thanks for your honest. A breath of fresh air!
I can totally see how overwhelming babies and children are, I really can. But at some point, you acclimate and the learning curve takes an upward turn and you become able to function at a higher level.
After 9 years, enough.
BTW, if the kids make the offhand comments about having siblings different ages than you, then they are showing awareness that their situation is not like other peoples'. Why doesn't Kate think the kids will have similar epiphanies about other families not having their lives filmed and televised to the world?
Riddle me that, Kate.
Aren't both situations just their "normal"?
I know this is a bit nitpicky, but out of curiousity, I check the word count on Kate's post about Wantable.
There are 703 words, and 27 exclamation points, which results in approximately one exclamation point for every 26 words.
In the review I posted earlier from http://www.amomlessordinary.com/wantable-makeup-subscription-box-review/ there are 698 words, but only 10 exclamation points.
Kate should have a review rating-like they do with movies. Instead of stars, she could use exclamation points!!!!
Sorry for being snarky, but I don't understand how Kate could actually think that that mess she wrote was a "review".
I think Tony's in trouble this season with Wynonna. I was not impressed last night. In fact, I cringed when I found out they had paired her with him. I swear they did it on purpose so he wouldn't win two years in a row. lol
I agree. I have a feeling she's not going to make it past week 3.
Those have to be the WORST pictures of a product review that I've ever seen! What do the bracelets look like? Who knows because she didn't position them so people can see. And btw, those long silver earrings are FUGLY! The makeup? She leaves all but 1 item in the box to take a picture? Then pulls a lipstick half out of it's box. I mean, WHAT is in there? Why not take a picture of 2 or 3 items together and do a discussion of each items by the picture?
Why would anyone buy these products from her review? You can't see what they look like, the quality or a true size. As for the makeup, other than the lipstick (I'm assuming that's lipstick sticking out of it's box), what items are in there? What shades are they?
She is so out of her element it's ridiculous.
Kris said,
______________
Either lazy or dumb...or both. If I were Kate, I'd be embarrassed as all get out to put anything like that together. She's in the same element as the sheeple, and if they think it's wonderful and are gushing over it, then it's fine with her. She just doesn't care. It's such a shame to have so little pride in what you do that you just throw anything together and figure that it works.
It's not nitpicking. It's the truth. Had she put together a decent blog with good pictures and descriptions, I'd give her kudos for doing it. I believe in giving credit where credit is due, but in this case, she failed miserably. I wonder if she even bothered to read a good product review to see how it's done. It certainly doesn't look like it.
So is Milo sulking today, it's awful quiet in the sheeple land.
Well, Kate is kissing up to her celeb BFF Kendra about Splash.
"Hey @KendraWilkinson I'm having a glass of wine tonight to calm MY nerves for YOU :) Dive, girl! We're cheering for you! :)"
Does she think she has to mention alcohol to talk to Kendra?
Somebody tweeted they wished Kate was on Splash. She said she was asked and brought up the incident at the New Zealand tower and said she couldn't do it.
Well that's the first reasonable comment I've heard from Kate in ages. Of course she shouldn't do Splash. It's nuts.
Anyway if they asked her why didn't she shut Milo up about this weeks ago and just tell her she declined?? Huh??
But if you go to her website, you don't see a tab for "recipes". You have to search and keep on searching and basically go through all the posts to find them. She gives such a simple answer, yet her website makes it so complicated.
Why not have a tab for "recipes". She could eliminate the tab "News and Events" which hasn't been updated since Dec.2011.
Her website is atrocious and not user friendly, but she has the nerve to simply say "go to my website".
Note on Twitter that Kate said something like she was asked 4 a diving show, but never said Splash asked her to be on the show and she turned Splash down.
Word play, again.
Of course Milo is certain that what Kate meant was that Kate was asked to be on Splash but turned them down.
Nuh uh, Milo. Not what Kate said. It's what she implied and Milo inferred exactly what Kate wanted her to.
I think Kate is apprised of show opportunities through her PR/manager and they decide whether to throw her hat into the ring or not. This is not a definitive invitation or offer to have any spot on any show.
Admin-the UK had/has a show called Splash also. I'm sure they didn't ask her either.
The only show she had in regard to "diving" was Kate+8, which "dived" in the ratings and thus was cancelled.
So yes, Kate was asked to be on a diving show--just not in the context that she implied.
Raise of hands if you believe ABC/Splash actually asked KG to be on the show. She will not say no to anything if it would put her face on tv. She would behave badly but say no?
I know people joke about it but is it even possible to get alerts when a certain person has tweeted?? This has to be what is happening.....tell me she isn't sitting there refreshing her twitter every five seconds.
So far in the past week or so, Kate's implied that she has turned down Celebrity Apprentice (more than once) and Splash.
I don't believe it.
I think her manager asks Kate if she wants her (JMC?) to reach out to the Casting Powers That Be and that's what's meant by being asked to do these shows.
Kate would never turn Trump down, so that's my benchmark.
The turning down stuff is highly suspicious. She claims she wants to be back on T.V. and in the public eye. Why would someone who wants to be back so bad be SO picky? It's not like she turns things down because she has some OTHER project. She just claims to turn things down because of the kids or it wasn't right or whatever. She might not want to be so darn picky if she wants to stay relevant. It just doesn't make sense for someone so desperate. She won't do Celebrity Apprentice, a somewhat respectable show as far as reality T.V. goes, but she will do Celebrity Wife Swap, bottom of the barrel trash? Not buying this one.
She's not Ben Affleck, oh I'm turning this down I turned that down. Gimme a break.
Kate Gosselin @Kateplusmy8
I can't even watch... This is like New Zealand tower jump feelings all over again...and I'm SITTING on MY SOFA!
good lord, Kate...is everything always about YOU? Can't you tweet anything without making it a Kate thing? I wonder if she even realizes she does this.
I am hooked on Splash! It was great. So KT said she was asked to be on Splash and kept it to herself all this time even when it was being discussed on the twitter?
''Anyway if they asked her why didn't she shut Milo up about this weeks ago and just tell her she declined?? Huh??''
-------------------------------------
You can't shut Milo up. Even is you duct taped her mouth, tied her hands behind her back and put blinders on her, she'd figure out a way to tweet with her nose.
Kate said ------> she was asked for a diving show.
She did not say SPLASH for a reason because SPLASH did NOT ask her. For all we know, someone at her home when visiting the pool, asked kate for a diving show ( please Kate show us your diving moves)
Contrary to press reports she scarred your kids.
&&&
This is so obnoxious. The reports were not that Kendra herself somehow hurt or scarred the kids. The reports were that the kids were upset, traumatized and confused to suddenly have some person they don't know or barely know be their new mommy and that KATE WASN'T COMMUNICATING WITH THEM during it. The reports were that Kate's lack of communication during this upheaval was what was so upsetting--and I bet it was. Any kid would just want a phone call from mom reassuring them, which is why this program is so bad. Nothing we saw suggested Kendra herself was bad for them and no one said Kendra herself was bad for them. If anything she seemed like a breath of fresh air. They just wanted some support from their OWN BIO MOTHER, was that too much to ask?
Why would someone who wants to be back so bad be SO picky?
--------------------------
Because this show actually involved work and intensive training. Kate wants everything handed to her. She wants a dating show to travel to exotic places, she wants a cooking show so she can just stand there with a wooden spoon. She wants to be on a talk show so she can be a bobble-head and just nod.
No way would she actually want to do a diving show, and it isn't because she's afraid of heights. She's afraid of WORK.
Admin-I agree. She tweets that she couldn't do CA because of the schedule. She tweets that she was asked to do a diving show, but doesn't have the nerve to do it and refers back to how she was regarding the skyjump in NZ.
It's almost like when someone points out to you that "so and so is doing this and doing that" and you're first response is "well, I tried too, and they asked me too, but I couldn't do it because...(fill in the blank)".
IMO, she is showing her jealousy of Kendra's life. A life she wished she had and could've had, if not for her own self-destructive personality.
Funny, I had seen one show (the end of it actually) where Kyle and Kim Richards jumped off a diving board. It was kind of funny actually, they just jumped. When I heard about Splash I thought it was THAT show but then I heard it was season I of Splash. Anyway, I just googled it and found this:
http://www.bravotv.com/blogs/the-dish/kim-kyle-richards-take-the-high-dive
Joy -- I hate to say this, but I think that your Tony will be one of the first ones leaving. Wynonna, bless her heart, tried, but she was not good. My bet is on the little 16-year-old to win. I can't remember her name, but she's going to be right up there on top.
PS. Dangit I missed Splash. My daughter's uncle (ex's brother) passed away Sunday and my ex SIL asked if DD and I could come get some photos for dd to scan for a slideshow. No, not being Kate, I went and did that for family (though not by law anymore, still family)and did not get back til 9. Plus I thought it was on next week or I would have DVRed it. I bet they have the episode online like they did CWS.
Wow, "Stars In Danger" high diving. Love one of the comments on Huff Post; "I'd watch it if they drained the pool first".
How D List can you get.
I don't think I've seen one single promo for this "show".
If I were casting and I kept hearing no from someone I would just assume they really don't want to be back in this business, perhaps they just want to stay back in PA and raise their kids and blog. And I would stop asking her if she wanted to do this or that project.
The whole thing just isn't credible.
(((((((((((
She must keep twitter up..and since she only follows what, 5 people, when there's a new tweet in her timeline (it'll say 1 new tweet or 2 or three and keep going til you click) there's a 1/5 chance it's her. Actually even better odds since she tweets so much
I hadn't either..just stumbled across the end of it one day LOL
LOL, Sleepless! And there is such a thing--I just looked it up. Ergophobia!
This one scares me...he's a creeper, and if it's not a hater just jerking Kate around, she needs to watch out:
irishfan
irishfan47
@MiIoandJack why are so busy judging me? U don't know me and to be honest I'm not here to get to know u.
Seriously, you've got to read this hysterically snarky recap of Stars In Danger High Dive:
http://www.uproxx.com/tv/2013/01/an-important-discussion-about-stars-in-danger-the-high-dive/
Be sure to link through to J Wow's belly flop.
This stuff is just too good.
Kate better readjust her sights because this is the caliber of "stars" that she's in.
If she's not lying (questionable), it was probably for that diving show Stars in Danger. It was a total flop and raked over the coals for the D-(minus) list of "celebs" on it trying to stay relevant. I think even in this regard she might have realized she'd look like a fool - and her hair would get wet, you know...lol...
I wasn't at all impressed with Splash tonight. Seemed like a huge waste of time and money, and I didn't even know what to think of the so-called judging. Is it just me?
Seriously, you've got to read this hysterically snarky recap of Stars In Danger High Dive:
---------------
"Mother of God. I need more episodes of this show immediately.
Agreed. Fingers crossed for Stars in Danger: Alligator Wrestling. Starring Nancy Grace."
*******
All Nancy would have to do is start talking about John David and Little Lucy, and the poor alligator would admit defeat, grab the towel, do a couple jaw snaps and go into hiding.
Sounds like irishman is not going to take no for an answer. If he tweeted all that in a very short time period, that speaks many volumes. I would not be flattered, I would be very concerned.
It is crazy that kate over the years has let on about how easy it was to enter the konpound and into the house. Remember Jon said that kate kept money in the house? But that has been years ago. I am thinking she put it in one of those 11 accounts she got.
irishman, He did put the nuts and bolts on milo.
My oldest son ran the St. Paddy 5K Saturday (He said that he didn't see kate there or Steve & Scooter, just kidding) and then about 2 hours later, ran the Fun Run. He loves to run 5 and 10K's. He even ran the St. Jude run last year. So proud. Oh we live about 50 miles SE of Redstone Arsenal.
Oh, I have something to tell yall. I was reading my favorite newspaper from the town next to my hometown and there was a very bad traffic accident in front of the Piggly Wiggly about a week ago. The married couple were both life flighted out and have been in ICU for a week. Well, I was reading a update in the paper on their story and they told of their condition and when they had the wreck, they had 2 little dogs in the vehicle and they both got out of the truck and took off.
One little doggie they were able to get, but the other little dog had been missing and the family was looking high and low for the dog.
Well, on Facebook, there is a dog shelter that takes in dogs, it is a no kill shelter, they have dogs that have been there for up to four and five years. It is called 2nd Chance Shelter.
Perfect name. Anyway, several days later on a street near there, a lady saw a little dog in her yard and got him and it was the little dog from the wreck!!!
I found out this new update when I called the number for information about the dog. They haven't put the new update in yet. I called and talked to a wonderful nephew of the couple, we laughed and cried swapped stories.
Then he told me about the miracle I thought it was wonderful.
Thank you, Dmasy SP? for your post about liking my posts. I write so terrible. It is grammar horrific, structurally unsound and choppy and all over the place. But the writing is ALL MINE, ALL MINE as far as the keyboard can see! hahaha!
I don't think Kate wants a show where there are many others to compete with like CA or Splash. She wants all of the attention on her. She can't handle having to share the limelight and I think that is part of why she stinks at talk shows. She has to share.
No she doesn't want to work at anything. She just wants her face or her name to be used to bring in the money. She is so full of herself.
What's her deal with vomit, anyway? She's mentioned it 4 times since 3/12. She's obsessed with it. Is it like the high a bulimic gets? She's so fixated with vomit, you kinda wonder why that is her focus so often.
The latest mention tonight:
@xxxxxxno I'd be diving into my bathroom to vomit lol #lightweight
Blogger ate my post.
PatK, Warmth of Sun, sleepless, I do agree that Tony and Wynonna will probably not win. However I think she has more rhythm and talent than Andy, DL, Victor, or Lisa. Also she will get sympathy votes because of the injured husband, and her mother Naomi will rally the country music fans to vote. So I think she will last a while.
I watched basketball tonight, North Carolina A&T beat Liberty, and Saint Marys barely beat Middle Tenn.State
I really like the idea of Stars in Danger: Alligator Wrestling! How about Stars in Danger: Cleaning Port a Potties?
That Splash show is completely ridiculous. I had 2nd hand embarassment watching it. Can I have my hour back please??
Vomit fetish?
In seriousness though, I think she does it to overcompensate for our complaints about sick and vomiting kids being filmed. See, vomiting is just all one big funny joke in our family! We talk about it all the time! We laugh, we joke, we vomit! Therefore, it was not exploitive at all to film it. Half of what she says is so obviously meant to overcompensate somehow. Puke!!
There are 2 MiloandJack twitter accounts. The one that kate tweets to, and the one the irish guy tweets to. One sucks up to kate, and the other cuts her down. I can not see any difference betweeen the 2 addresses.. How can that be done.
I am going to put the address from both of them. See if others find their are 2:
Mean and nasty to kate Milo
https://twitter.com/MiIoandJack
Cant suck up enough to Kate Milo
https://twitter.com/MiloandJack
oooh, interesting, now that I copied and pasted, I can see the difference. The l is a capital I... I think someone else pointed this out. On twitter tho, it is very hard to see that capital I. They have the same avatar and everything....
==================
The spoof account is clever. They're using a capital "I" for "L" in Milo, and in sans serif it looks like a lowercase "L".
Oh, sorry, Meagler. I didn't see your last paragraph where you figured it out when you copied it. I only knew because some of the fans were mad about it and they said it was an "I."
If you hover over Bad Milo’s twitter name when you go to Irishfan47’s twitter page, look at the left bottom corner of webpage, it will show her handle name and it does say ‘miLoandjack’. But the funny thing about this is that if you type in that name, it brings up Milo’s twitter page, not Bad Milo’s. When you copy and paste, it doesn’t show like that so it looks like both are identical. Maybe the way font is formatted on our computers? The only way I was able to see that page was to click on the handle name in one of IrishFan’s tweets to Bad Milo. I am not sure what’s going on with manually typing in the name and getting only Milo’s page. I don’t have twitter; is there a way someone could set it up so whenever someone types in Milo’s handle name, it will go to her page whether you use capital letters or not?
