I'd love to hear Tucker's take on this, I think the photo is very poorly put together and cropped. Speaks to the quality of those helping her.
The crop should start at the base of the counter because the short crop of the cupboards is distracting, and the family shouldn't be so centered in the photo with equal portions of stove and counter.
********
*just* started to read the new thread, but have to say that was the FIRST thing that jumped out at me. Well, actually, first was Kate's dead eyes and not-a-smile. But yes, the crop sucks.
But I have to say, that Cara is going to be one beautiful woman. Her facial features are just transforming .
The hummus recipe? Yawn. Who needs a BASIC hummus recipe?
I made a batch yesterday and punched it up with feta and made rosemary pits chips to go along.
Again, yawn.
I am surprised she chose that picture for the cover. She looks totally devoid of color, washed out.

@SuzeW718 @NaughtyNiceRob @Kateplusmy8's book is being published by @HCIBooks1, not by HCI Printing & Publishing. Not a self-published book.
=====================
I hope they're able to recoupe the money that they put into the book and I wonder if Kate actually got an advance. I'm guessing that there was no advance just OK we'll publish based on your previous track record. She could have them fooled due to # of followers and hits on her web site (both greatly inflated). Ah well, no matter. Money talks and I'll bet that they don't sell enough books to count and you also have to wonder if they're doing the whole pre-order thing so that they know how many copies to publish. Someone on twitter needs to ask if the book will only be available online or if it will be available in bookstores. If it won't be available in bookstores that will be very telling because the bookstores would have to bulk purchase them and hope that they sell.

From TV Watcher, May 2012:
She (Kate) added that "thousands" have been asking her to release a cookbook.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thousands?
We are all acutely aware of Kate's need to exaggerate everything. For her, the reality of a situation is not enough.
It has to be bigger, better, brighter and more so she can retain her bony-assed seat on the white plastic throne.
Complete and utter tool, as usual.
Yep, I went back and looked on her website that photo of her sideways with Collin. That has got be a wig.
That was my first thought, also, that her hair's a wig. Mediocre, once again.
Why in this photo of her hummus recipe with Collin, are there tomatoes and onions and green stuff in the bowl? Her hummus recipe doesn't not have tomatoes, onions, and green stuff. Gee, shouldn't she have the ingredients for hummus in the photo. What an idiot!
Kate Gosselin @Kateplusmy8 5h Good morning! As promised, I'm excited to announce my cook book, Love Is In The Mix.
Now avail for pre order here:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is she high?
She didn't announce it. Impossible Dreams did.
She is not just any old tool. She's the entire freaking tool box.
I imagine the 6 sheeple, along with those creepy guys who twitter her, will be purchasing this book for the access to pictures of the children and her personal memory making comments. She is a pornographer of the highest order.
Read here HCI? Quick to comment on the self-publishing. Does this mean you are sending Fame 'Ho Mom on a book tour? If said tour comes to the left coast, I will join you Admin for drinks and a few pointed questions.
I don't think HCI reads here. Someone tweeted that Kate's book was self-published and HCI's twitter name was included. HCI was just tweeting back to clarify.
Press release for Kate's book. Deerfield Beach, FL is where HCI is located.

This mom-of-eight also has surprises in store during the months before her book is published. “I plan on making some recipes available that are not in the book and also share some traditions and tips along the way. So watch my Twitter @Kateplusmy8 and my website http://www.kateplusmy8.com for these.”
If you go to HCI's website, you can also pre-order the book. And get this--you can order there for $18.36, not $22.95 which is the Amazon price.

An observation-
I was just looking at the book's cover photo, and ahem...a...erm...
Kate's Adam's Apple is looking rather prominent.
Her transformation to a man is almost complete
(man hands, no hips etc...)
Just kidding sheeple ;o)
No, I'm not.
Yes, I am...
No, I'm not.
Again much ado, her birthday present to herself, god the vanity, about what will fade to nothing much next week. And if not a wig, she has a whole lot of faux curl rolls woven or pinned in or under her hair fry. Why does she buy ALL the boys' clothing two sizes too large, they are small statured and slow growers; the girls have clothes that fit. And this is not school uniforms, this is going to be a published book jacket. Poor boys.
I find it odd that not one fan has asked if the recipes are organic, especially one of Kate's faithful whose kids all have allergies.

Kate hired a kid photographer because that's what this sham cookbook is really about. The "recipes" are secondary to pimping out the kids, once again. The book will be filled with photos of her and "the 8" because she knows her recipes wouldn't sell a book. I'm sure she is salivating at the thought of interviews, four star hotels, gourmet meals and limos. The children will stay home, of course.
Ahh, I bet she made a deal with HCI to pay for her book tours and TV appearances; she would have to foot the bill if self-published. I was right, she is drooling anticipating alone time with Stevie.

Wow! I haven't been here all morning, and this topic has just exploded! Lots of interesting comments. I haven't had time to read all of them, so if I touch on something already covered, please forgive.
MJ 81 -- I don't work in publishing, so most of what I know is second or third hand. I do have a couple of friends who are published authors -- both trad published and self published. What I know is that publishing companies don't own the rights to a book in perpetuity, even if they actually published the book. Many authors re-acquire the rights to their books after a certain time and re-release them, either revising and updating in the process or publishing them in a new format (e-books usually). AFAIK, KK's book was never published anywhere. It was listed in foreign markets, but I don't think anyone ever found an actual copy of the book. I believe this listing was a pre-order. So the rights would have reverted to her and she can do with it what she wants.
BTW -- if anyone is interested in a good book that's on pre-order right now, I can highly recommend "Under Witch Curse", written by my friend, Maria E. Schneider. The book is Urban Fantasy, with witchcraft, spooky happenings, some Native American rituals and beliefs, a Vampire or two, shapeshifters, and genuinely likable characters. The book is the 3rd in the series, coming after "Under Witch Moon" and "Under Witch Aura". "Curse" will be released on April 4, in e-format only. A DTB will be coming at a later date. The first 2 are available in both e-format and DTB. It helps if you read the books in order, but each one can stand on its own merit. Available from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other book sellers.
I'd bet $$ that Kate's offering the cookbook on her website as an HCI Affiliate. More profits coming her way!

I guess HCI couldn't afford a good copy editor to catch gaffes like that?
It actually makes sense to me that the book isn't self-published. No way would she personally incur any costs associated with the book if there was any way around it.

Wow these people are really thick. I'm sure Kate would really rather her tweetie birds NOT bring Robert Hoffman into the discussion. Obviously Kate has been advised to keep her mouth shut on the subject so she can't respond on twitter.
Also, what I find most distracting about the cover photo is the placement of the range hood. It makes the whole picture look off-center, particularly with how the stuff on the counter is arranged. Guess HCI doesn't have an art department either?
Thanks for going off topic,
You may be right about the original cookbook. Here's the page where I found the original book on Amazon in German/Swiss???:
http://www.amazon.de/Love-Is-Mix-Making-Memories/dp/0310323770%3FSubscriptionId%3D1NNRF7QZ418V218YP1R2%26tag%3Dbf-ns-isbn-tree-1-21%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D0310323770
There was a generic looking cover shown when I first found the page.
My husband has a book being released next month, in both hardcover and e-book. Some comments -
- The title is the same as a magazine that he used to provide articles. He simply asked the publisher of the now defunct magazine if he could use the name and that publisher simply e-mailed his current publisher with permission. Not really very hard to get naming rights.
- He received an advance. Not much, but it will cover our property taxes this year.
- The release was initially announced in the publisher's catalogue and can be pre-ordered through the catalogue, their website as well as B&N and Amazon. This publisher uses several well known distributors to place books in both large and small bookstores. Distributors can read the market very well, and are careful in ordering a certain number of copies and then placing those books where they will sell. Since my husband's book is military history, there is always a big push, including book signings in June, right before Father's Day.
One last note, I read today that Lydia, from PBS has a children's cookbook being released. Now that is something I would find interesting.
Hmmm could they have gone to Florida on the publisher's dime for their Xmas vacation? (for contract signing or whatever?
What disturbs me most about that pic of her with Collin (I had to go to her site to see it--now I feel like I need a shower) is not her hair or neck but how phony her smile looks. I've never seen her display any genuine warmth or happiness when she's around her kids, which is sad and ironic when you consider that her entire identity is crafted around being a super mom. The only time her smile looks genuine has been in the photos I've seen of her with freebies (like here: http://gossipcenter.com/kate-gosselin/kate-gosselin-gift-suite-gal-338928) or with Steve (like here: http://radaronline.com/photos/kate-gosselin-her-body-guard-steve-neild-spend-4-days-in-cabo-san-lucas-together/photo/244124/).
OMG, Kate is a Twit -- more misleading and money taking from her fans! I'd be pretty upset if I'd ordered her over priced book and then found out I could have bought it cheaper somewhere that Kate should have told me about. I don't tweet, but I hope someone informs her fans where to save a few dollars. ugh

Although you can't review the book on the Amazon website since it hasn't been published yet, you can post comments. So far, only 5 comments. But. They. Are. Brutal.
I understand that in Kate's Pulitzer Prize winning cookbook, you find
photos of the G-kids posing throughout.
Kate is incapable of standing on her own two feet without using her children for props.
Without those kids, Kate really is nothing.

Congrats on your husband's book release! Writing and publishing a book is a lot of work and takes time.
I don't want to know any specifics, but I heard a few years ago that writing a book is not the way to get rich quick and that the net profit per book is much lower than most people would expect.
I heard that if an author makes $4-$8/per book that they're doing quite well. Is this figure completely inaccurate or do you have any info that might give us an idea what Kate might be making for her book?
Poor Milo, no birthday surprise from her can possibly compete with Kate's vanity press birthday present to herself. From Kate to Kate, Happy Birthday to Me, Me, Me!!!!!!! Watch me eat that cake, kiddos.

Does it make any difference to Kate what price the customer pays? Will she make a greater profit if the they pay the higher price?
Other than that, yes she should direct her fans to the lower priced book.

Jennifer, I agree. I have that same reaction to the photos. I don't care about her bleached hair or her fake boobies, it's that fake smile when she's with her kids. I always think she's saying something very nasty to them behind those clenched veneers like "happy up for the camera, or else".
Her cookbook proposal must have been what she mailed off months ago sealed with kiss. HCI was the only one who would touch it. Their only claim to fame is "Chicken Soup for The Soul" and "A Boy Called It". Looks like lots of writers for a niche market.
All she cares about is travelling, expenses paid, and going on the TV shows. Surprisingly, nothing on Radaronline yet. I swear, just when you think she has disappeared, she slinks back into the public eye. It won't end until those kids are 18. *Sigh*
Anxiously awaiting Robert's book. I hope some big time publisher is working on it. I kind of think that is the case because he needs the legal defense. I think his material is dynamite. Too bad he blew it with the self-published book. He's not a writer but I understand that he wanted to get the information out there on his own terms.
MJ 30 someone informs her fans where to save a few dollars.
I wouldn't help them. If sheep had working brains they could figure that out themselves.
Apparently, some sheeple don't know about the original book.

@Mrsmcdreamy thanks! I named it myself! I always name my boos before writing them, which is backwards, so I'm told! Lol!
Little bit of a Freudian slip there Kate?
No need for her to travel to FL to sign a contract. Perhaps part of the deal for the early announcement was for HCI to see what the market was and how many to print. It's expensive to print a 4-color hard bound book.
Kate should have just printed up a calendar with the kids posing. She is such a fame whore.
Let's see if she does some self-promoting tomorrow on her Stir bog. I wonder if she will include a picture of the Gosselin tradition of a home-baked cake, organic of course (LOL).
PR release from publisher. Stand for the internet tabs to repeat. Includes this:
Gosselin says, “As far back as I can remember, my grandma would invite me and my sisters to bake in her kitchen, allowing each of us to choose our cookie project. She would set us up at our own stations throughout the kitchen and invite the chaos to begin. In this book, I impart to you all that I have learned, invented, and stumbled upon. My hope is that my children learn from me the joy and satisfaction that creating in the kitchen brings. No matter the outcome, I have learned from Grandma that nothing that comes from the kitchen is a mistake when you add love to the mix!”
Created in response to overwhelming requests, Gosselin’s cookbook, with its stunning four-color photos and amusing anecdotes of holidays and traditions, offers a repertoire of recipes for any home chef, from crowd-pleasing appetizers to decadent desserts, from lazy weekend breakfasts to speedy weeknight suppers, plus company-worthy dishes you can serve without a hassle—or leftovers.
88888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888
Grandma, what grandma? And of course there are no leftovers because she doesn't make that much.
I found a hummus recipe on Allrecipes. Readjusted the servings to see how much lemon juice for 3 cans of chickpeas. 1/4 cup and 2 tablespoons lemon juice!!!!!!!! Approx. 6 Tbsp? Now I am really wondering if it was a mistake in her book. Maybe she meant 8? hahahahaha
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Hollys-Hummus/Detail.aspx?scale=24&ismetric=0
Adjust Recipe (Help)
Ingredients list now reflects the new serving size.
3 (15.5 ounce) cans garbanzo beans (chickpeas), drained
1 cup pitted Spanish Manzanilla olives
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1/2 cup and 1 tablespoon olive oil
1/4 cup and 2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon and 1-1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh basil
1 tablespoon cilantro leaves
salt and pepper to taste
Okay, so Kate's got something to keep her busy for the next several months. Promotional tv appearances before the book's release and book signings afterwards.
Then what?
Has she already started working on her next book of pictures and cute anecdotes of her almost pre-pubescent (sp?) sextuplets and soon-to-be teenaged twins for release NEXT year to keep the carnival ride going?
It seems to me that as these kids grow older, the public's interest is waning. Cuteness factor is gone. There will be no more tv series for them. A few thousand die-hards buying whatever photo-laden books some small-time publisher takes a chance on isn't going to cut it for long.
Kate is still circling that drain. It's just taking a bit longer for the flush cycle to complete than we anticipated. But we're a patient group.
Well, congratulations to Kate for actually completing the book she's been promising for 4 years.
For the author of a "Child called It", HCI's publisher stated in an interview that he made 15-20% of every book sold. He received no advance. Now, it could be that Kate did command an advance, given that she has published before. I really don't know, it's just speculation.
If HCI is selling her book for $18.36, at 20% she'd make $3.67 for each book sold. Her last book "I Just Want You to Know" sold a little over 10,000 copies, despite heavy promotion. $3.67 x 10,000 = $36,720.
After taxes, assuming she's in a 30% bracket, that leaves her with about $26,000. That's not including whatever she might have pay out for HCI's other services.
This book isn't a money make for her. It's simply to keep her name relevant. It provides a little bit of income, enough when added to the alleged $1000/per blog article she writes for the Stir and the money she received from CWS, to allow her to continue being at home full time and not working a 9-5 job. And if that's what Kate wants, then I guess she's living her dream (albeit on the backs of her kids).

Ingrid I was laughing at that recipe, too. 18 tablespoons is MORE than a cup. That much lemon juice would make the hummus inedible IMO. Wonder if anyone besides Kate and the 8 tested the recipes. Blech.
Save your money. All of the recipes in the book can be found on the backs of cereal boxes, Kraft products, Campbell Soup cans. What do you bet she has the "4th of July flag cake in the book. That recipe has been floating around for over 50 years. I first made it back in the '60's. Recipe: Make one yellow cake mix in 9 x 13 pan. Frost with Cool Whip and make the decorations with blueberries and raspberries. KATE IS A FAKE and a CHEAT!
Perhaps she should ask Emeril if she can cook on his show. That is if, he doesn't remember Kate clubbing him with a spoon when he appeared on her show.
Kate wants $23+ shipping (I bet) for that stupid cookbook yeah right.
I would buy that thing for $1 but I'll wait and get it for $.05 like I did with "I want u to know".

I told ya she's looking manly lol.
There will only be a book tour with signings if the book is going to be available in bookstores. If it's only going to be sold online I doubt that there will be any type of tour. If Kate wants to appear on the talk shows to promote the book then it's going to be her PR team that arrange it for her. Who knows, maybe HCI thinks that Kate will be their next big seller. She talks a good game and has inflated numbers on her web site and twitter followers.
I have a relative that is a chef and worked at William Sonoma at one point. When a (real) chef (Bobby Flay, Ina Garten) came through on a promotional tour for a new cookbook, it was his job to pick a recipe from the book and recreate it for the chef and audience there to meet and greet. I asked my brother about Kate's recipe and he siad that the lemon juice was way off and that it would make it too watery and too sour. I wonder if Kate will re-tool that particular recipe now that we've talked about it here.
One of the chefs gave a talk about creating recipes. Taste, tweak, taste again, tweak again, run it by some friends and then have independent people make it to see how it comes out. I doubt that Kate will sell many cookbooks. She would have done better to create a "recipes for kids by kids ©" done in easy to understand language (with illustrations) for kids.
I hope that no one gets sick from untested recipes!
P.S. I had tickets to DWTS on Monday. So fun, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
No sign of Kate in the celeb section, but lots of laughter, groans & eye rolls whenever anyone mentioned her name.

No leftovers? So I guess KK planned to serve eggplant parm 3 days straight? I love eggplant parm and I couldn't eat it 3 days straight. I can't imagine 6 year olds loving it (I think the tups were about that age at the time of that episode). They must have had dry heaves the minute they saw it plopped down on those prison trays. Sorry, I'm feeling very snarky today, Bwaahaahaa!

************************************************
EXACTLY.
Then what, you ask?
1) G-kids coloring book?...
2) G-kids Saturday morning cartoon?...
3) G-kids paper dolls?...
4) G-kids Christmas CD?...
She's not done using her kids.
Part 1
(Sorry this is so long. Scroll on if you're not interested in Kate's probable "deal.")
People are asking a lot of publishing questions and I think I can shed a little light.
As I've said before, I have two books. Together they've sold maybe 15,000 copies (12,000 on the one out about 6 years). I'm not a typical self-published author because my sales are high, consistent, and ongoing.
(Can I take a moment to apologize for never having been able to find a way to get the titles of my novels to this list without risking being bombed by sheeple on Amazon?)
It appears to me that HCI is a middleman (or POD--Print on Demand) publisher. A fancy term for someone who does your self-publishing for you! They call themselves "publisher" on the back of the book and in truth they do "publish." They get the book out there. They provide services for a fee, including usually a large upfront set-up fee. Other services would typically include obtaining an ISBN number, getting the book on Amazon, getting the writing to fit the page, optional "editing" fee, etc.
Don't be fooled by their asking for proposals. Yes, some of these companies do "screen" their books. That might mean that 5% are "rejected." Typically if you're ready to pay, they're not going to turn you down unless the content is obscene or unreadable.
HCI's webpage hawking their books SCREAMS self-published at me. Covers are usually cheesy. (I have an artist in the family who does my covers.)
People using these services do call themselves self-published, although true self-publishing is going straight to a printer with a ready-to-print book.

And let's see if this book sells like "I want U to know" sold
************************************************
And how quickly these books end up in the "used" section.
t's a little bit funny, because MsGoody has stated that she actually bought Robert's book.
&&&&&&&
Did she read what he said about her? lol!!
"But I have to say, that Cara is going to be one beautiful woman. Her facial features are just transforming ."
&&&&&&&
Yes, both she and Mady will be...with an "exotic" look and stunning features. I could see that a few years ago, I think when they were in fourth grade I took a look at their faces close up and thought...by the time these girls are in Upper School, they are going to turn some heads.
Part 2
Kate is a Twit said...
Gypsi on the other hand, is so excited that she'll be able to get the book on her B&N Nook, which might be hard to do since it's not even listed at B&N, and if Amazon doesn't have it on Kindle yet, how is it going to be on Nook?
I have a question about pre-ordering books. Does the book have to have a certain number of pre-orders, in order for it to be actually published? If it doesn't meet that quota, can the publisher cancel the printing?
====================
In answer to Twit, no, they wouldn't need to cancel it if not enough were ordered. But the price per book (to Kate) would go UP (due to low quantities) and she would make less profit per book. So she's hoping to pre-sell a LOT of books. These folks like Milo will guarantee Kate a higher profit margin because she can have a higher print run made.
Nook and Kindle are separate. HCI will have to set it up on Nook with B&N. Not too hard to do.
The commission referred to earlier on Dave Pelzer's book should actually be called a royalty. Most traditionally published books earn a royalty of about 10%. So when you buy a big-name author's book on Amazon and pay $15, the author is getting $1.50. (Not much!) Quantity of course adds up quickly.
An HCI's roytalty will vary depending on if they sell them for you. It's higher than 10%, but lower then mine.
Now on my truly self-published books (we have created our own imprint), I make about 90% if I sell directly to a buyer, 40% through a shop, and on Amazon...about 65%, I think. So one reason I haven't tried to go to a traditional publisher yet is that I'm making good money per book and have not yet begun to tap the whole market.
A downside of a traditional publisher--when you're out of print, you're dead. Nothing you can do because most won't sell back your rights. A good friend, whose is closely related to one of the most popular authors in the world, made the mistake of selling her rights. The company did a lousy job of marketing, sold about 14,000 copies, and this wonderful novel is now out of print.
I'm curious as to whether Kate had the smarts to let Zondervan, the previous publisher of "Love is in the Mix," know about this new incarnation with the same name. Presumably her previous publisher would own the rights to the name "Love is in the Mix" by Kate Gosselin. If the new book has the same recipes, she could REALLY be in trouble. It all depends on what Zondervan bought in rights and what Kate was able to negotiate back.
Kate would not have gotten an advance for this. No, she wrote a multi-thousand dollar check to them, not vice verse. The way advances work is an author gets his sales credit back (paid back) to his advance first. Only when he has earned back the advance does he begin to see a paycheck. Typically advances are the trade-off to the author for selling the rights. The publisher estimates how many he can sell and an advance dollar amount is calculated. My friend mentioned above signed a very bad deal (with a large press and through an agent) and is now PAYING BACK the advance because the publisher didn't market well!
I, too, am a long time lurker who rarely posts. I love reading all the funny posts that makes me smile or laugh out loud.
One show I love watching is "The Little Couple" on TLC. Bill (Klein) & Jennifer (Arnold. MD) appear to be such a loving couple. Their story is so sweet. Long story short, they have been trying to have a baby. Unfortunately it was not in the cards for them. They recently announced that they have adopted a Chinese baby with dwarfism. Of course TLC was there to document the trip to China to pick up baby Bill as they are filming for the new season.
Jen has also recently started a blot to discuss the neonatal &pediatrics tips (her speciality), personal notes (how thankful she is to have such a wonderful helpful husband) and letters to her son. She thanks the many people who supported them throughout this journey and posted a pic on her bloc. Imagine my surprise to see a familiar face...STEVIE! I guess he is still contracted with TLC.
I apologize in advance if this breaks the blot on blot or any other rules. I'll go back to my corner now.

Yep, she's hanging on by a thread now trying to keep those kids at the same age and time frame as when they were all much younger. She's using recipes from four years ago that were all seen on the show and a few more recent recipes that she's (cough) blogged about. I really doubt if any of them still play with edible dough. Maybe she uses it to thicken her "annual corn soup".
So I'm guessing Kate's personal chef had the day of when she wrote this cookbook. HA
18 tsp of lemon juice????? I thought that was odd as well.
I never in my career or in school was a recipes that called for 18 tsp of anything.
Admin -- going back to the discussion we had last night...that cropping is still driving me nuts! Can't you crop the bottom in the photo here so we don't have to look at it for the duration of the thread? LOL!!
I've not caught up with all of the posts yet, but I did see that the person who took these photos is a wedding and children's photographer. I hope that she knows something about photographing food. It's an art in itself. My job in photography was capturing people, places and events for a newspaper and separate tabs within the paper (high school athletes, community happenings, etc) and I never would have attempted food shoots since I know really don't know that much about the skills required for photographing food. Why wouldn't Kate hire someone who at least specializes in that area of photography (and can at least crop a photo!)?
That white range hood is so distracting (it looks like an advertisement for a kitchen remodeling company) as is the green artificial flower arrangement (or whatever it is) that is growing out of the twin's head...argh!
Thanks for the insight Virginia Penn Mom. Bottom line is that this is a self published book by Kate. They can call it whatever they want but a rose by any other name...well you know the rest. Kate is only fooling herself and the sheeple. I think I'm going to make her hummus recipe and if it's as bad as I think it will be I will publish my results as a comment on Amazon.

Thanks for going off topic,
You may be right about the original cookbook. Here's the page where I found the original book on Amazon in German/Swiss???:
http://www.amazon.de/Love-Is-Mix-Making-Memories/dp/0310323770%3FSubscriptionId%3D1NNRF7QZ418V218YP1R2%26tag%3Dbf-ns-isbn-tree-1-21%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D0310323770
There was a generic looking cover shown when I first found the page.
##############
That looks like the generic cover in the Amazon.co.uk "unavailable" listing. Oddly, the UK version is supposedly published by Harper Collins -- who don't have the book or Kate on their listings of books and authors.
My German is very rusty, but I think your listing says that the book is in English and has yet another publisher.
More of my speculation: Zondervan contracted with other publishers overseas who promoted the book -- before Zondervan conclusively dumped Kate and her cookbook. No copies were ever published or distributed anywhere. It is really odd that no used copies of Love is in the Mix are available anywhere. I can find pages of used copies of all her other books. Cheap!
Also, as someone else pointed out upthread, she has changed the name of the cookbook. It is now "Kate Gosselin's Love is in the Mix"! Sneaky move, Kate!
Improbable Dreams,.you go to go to DWTS LIVE SHOW!?!?!?!?
SQUEAL!!!!!!!!
I am so JELLUS!!!!!!!!
So who did you like the best, seeing it in person?

Which would explain why Naughty Rob, in his column, wrote that two publishers ("real" publishers) turned her down. She found a middleman to do the job for her.
Thanks, Virginia Pen. Wish we could read your books! :)

Ingrid I was laughing at that recipe, too. 18 tablespoons is MORE than a cup. That much lemon juice would make the hummus inedible IMO. Wonder if anyone besides Kate and the 8 tested the recipes. Blech.

I wonder if anyone proofread the book!
Too funny! SusanNH is posting pictures of Kate's creations under comments on Amazon. I'd forgotten how bad some of them were.
Wow Chef you are one smart cookie! You're right that's WAY too similar to Teresa's cover photo to be a mere coincidence. Wonder ROL will notice too?
Teresa's cover is so much better...decent cropping, nothing distracting at the top, no ovens hanging out of the side or cabinets sticking out of the bottom. Notice the font...differences in type that catch your eye, placement of script is good. Kate's is done in generic upper case, with absolutely nothing to make you look twice at it.
It starts...Examiner.com has this about the cookbook from a fan on Twitter..."suggesting that Kate parlay the book into a large family cooking show to which Kate responded, "'I agree!'"
I think we who really cook know a little lemon juice goes a looong way. LOL.
I took a picture of my lunch (kimche soup) one day using my iPhone. It's better than any that I've seen from Kate.
Could the boys' shirts be any bigger?
Check out the collars and the short sleeves which appear to come down to the elbows.
If you have been reading her twitter with all the congrats, Kate's head must be so big she can't get through the front door!
Oh God. I don't trust Kate one single bit.
She's so damn crooked, and greedy.
I'm getting a twitchy feeling that
all that pre-ordering will amount to nothing.
With such a LONG wait until the crookbook's official release- I feel like something will go wrong, like her faux cruise.
All those pre-orders will have to be voided.
I hope someone told her that there's not much need for exclamation marks in a cookbook.
Unless it's one of her famous dump recipes where her mystery meat is mixed with 88 cans of beans topped with cheese!!!
People are asking a lot of publishing questions and I think I can shed a little light 67 &70
Virginia Pen Mom, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge about publishing. It made so much sense to me. The sheeple are going to
believe what they need to believe. I do hope they try making some of kk's recipes. Oh right, they'll blame the editing.
I just looked at the picture of Kate and Collin on her website and although she has her arm around him there is no closeness in the picture at all. Note the space between them. A normal mom would be hugging her child to her.

I think a lot of the congratulatory tweets are coming to Kate courtesy of twitterbots. Kate and company can set twitterbots up to congratulate all they want but if the congrats don't translate to the sale of books they're just words on a page. I don't think that Kate will be offered a cooking show any time soon, there are too many good ones on the air right now. Kate can always go the route of a youtube cooking show I suppose. Isn't there a youtube channel set up for such things?

haha! Chef you're cracking me up today. Katherine probably headed for the hills when she realized that Kate was serious about putting out a cookbook. "For REAL KATE?? Geez I thought you were jokin' "
About the 18 tbsps, I was looking for a different quick double crust pie dough the other day and got a little miffed because the recipe (Epicurious) called for 14 tbsp of butter. WTH? Just say a cup less 2 tbsp. It's easier.
You can bet Milo will send word to Kate immediately about the lemon juice and about the talhnl (sic). I'm only guessing that it's not too late for a final proofread. But I have to say I would be humiliated if I turned in something FOR PUBLICATION and it had typos, miscalculations and mistakes in it. Grade C- right from the get-go.
BTW, the same goes for Robert Hoffman's book. Fair's fair in the proofreading/editing department.
I don't cook a lot during the week, (my SO does). But to be honest, I would never cook anything Kate has raved about (and posts pictures of-barf baggish).
When I cook- don't do barf bag recipes. Sorry Kate, but you should have never posted pictures of your unsavory recipes in advance. But I think your five fans will buy the book to show support! And you can still hide in the closet with any book signings, although not seeing that ever happening.
1 week Away from kids, 1 week home- don't count on it yet Kate!
So I am trying to understand how HCI works. I think there is a lot of out-of-pocket expenses for an author for them to publish, such as fees for publicity and usually there is no advance. Sometimes the authors have to pay for part of the book run. So I guess it's like high-end self-publishing, they do the work and you pay them to do the work?
HCI and its imprints (another publishing name but same company, just different markets) is definitely for those authors who have not been picked up by the big guys. One author got a bill for $100K for HCI to publicize her book from an HCI imprint, Farrah Gray Publishing. I read this on a Writers' Beware Blog.
The twitterbots make sense because the names are totally new. These are not her regulars. Wonder if HCI is behind that as part of Kate's publicity package.
Half of Kate's food looks like dog vomit or it looks like WTF is that?

14 tbsp of butter I never see that be for lol.
I hope it was organic butter.
Matthew Mull says:
Would anyone buy this book? This woman famously said that "real cooks don't need recipes". She simply takes existing recipes, slightly tweeks it, and gives it a new cute name. If you have $22.95 to spend on this drivel then you have the money to buy real Play Doh.-From amazon
I forgot that Kate said this on J&K so she won't be mad if her books don't sell.
Since real cooks don't need recipes. I bet the fans forgot as well.
BTW, the same goes for Robert Hoffman's book. Fair's fair in the proofreading/editing department.
_______________
Yes, but Robert never claimed to be a journalist or an expert at grammar or spelling. Kate prides herself in announcing that English was her best subject, and she's an accomplished writer/author.
That said, there should have been editing and proofreading done in Robert's book to make it look at least a little bit more professional. Some of what was done there just made me wince.
Joy in Virginia ~ I brushed shoulders with Dorothy Hamill as we were exiting the studio. Her eyes were glistening--a mixture of tears and excitement, I think. "You did an amazing job," I said, and I meant it, injury or no. She didn't say much in return. Just took my hand in hers and gave it a squeeze. Said "Thank you" with a smile, and then we parted.
Sure, Kelly Pickler was phenomenal, as were some of the other dancers. And did I mention that Derek gave me a big ol' hug? *fans self* But yeah, I give Dorothy the edge, because she demonstrated courage and grace in the midst of so many obstacles. That's star quality, if you ask me.

No doubt. Even Kate knows nobody gives a crap about her book. Kind of sad, but to be expected.
I bet Kate choked when she got those rejection letters from the big publishing houses (don't they know who she IS???) and then found out what she'd have to hand out to get the ball rolling with HCI.

LOL, oh Robert you are a sly one, aren't you?
Did anyone catch this comment FROM NaughtybutNiceRob on his post about Kate being turned down by real publishers.
Someone suggested he should read Robert's book and this is his response:
Naughty But Nice Rob • a day ago −
i have known Robert forever. He sent me a copy of his book. Great read
Think back to the photos of her in that Running magazine, it was staged beautifully. Other than HER AND HER FLINSTONE FEET ON THE THE COUNTER the pic was very nice. The lighting was good, the food etc on the counter looked appealing, it looked professional. Would love a side by side
Robert is back! Robert is back! He just tweeted HCI sending them information..YAY! Welcome back Robert.
Steve's working for the little people??? Oh that's flipping hysterical. Great catch!
So, Kate has a cookbook coming out. Her last book sold under 11,000 in the first few months after it was released--and this was published at the height of public awareness, with a legit publisher, book events, promotions at major booksellers, etc., and, when she was associated with a cable network. Exactly who does she and her delusional fans think are her market?
Once again, it is just so uncomfortable to watch someone who has completely lost touch with reality refuse to face up to the truth. She is a very sad person, and her poor kids are even sadder.
I think it is a mistake for people to go to Amazon and blast her--It just makes them look like crazed lunatics who have an insane vendetta against the mother of 8 children. If people would just stop trying to bring her down, she will just disappear. If anything, this will backfire because she will get some sympathy.
She has gone from being one of the "most fascinating people" (according to Barbara Walters), to an inferior blogger, in a few short years. And, because of her own greed and hubris, she destroyed her own brand and her own future. Apparently, lots of people make a living on the fringes, trading on their earlier accomplishments. This book sounds like a newer version of selling pictures of her kids. This time, the pictures come with some inedible recipes.
Kudos to Improbable Dreams. She was the first to provide absolute and definitive FIRST-HAND proof of the secret project, and stepped on Kate's big announcement in the process. Everything else was second-hand info, rumor and speculation. Sounds like there are some jellus haterz out there.
Book cover -- arms and hands everywhere. Very distracting.
Virginia Penn Mom has it right. HCI is more of a A vanity or subsidy publisher that charges a fee to produce a book, yet still presents itself as a publisher.
Kate is most likely having to pony-up the fees which is why she's not releasing the book until September, she wants to have the preorders under her belt. According to SFWA (Science Fiction Writers of America) "costs for vanity/subsidy publishing can rise into the five-figure range." You can read more information about such 'publishing' at this LINK

That is a great catch! I follow Jen Arnold on twitter and I actually viewed that picture on her blog and didn't catch it. Jen and Bill are probably a breath of fresh air for Steve. I admire her so!
........
Chef - I think Kate, instead of using a recipe adjustment calculator, just took her recipes and multiplied them by 8. If her original recipe called for 2.25 tbsp she came up with 18 tbsp. The dumb cluck doesn't know that it doesn't work that way when you're increasing the the number of servings. You don't automatically double or triple (or X8) everything, especially an acidic ingredient like lemon juice. She's an amateur and it shows. She has probably never made half the recipes she has in her (cough) cookbook.

I can't explain what possessed me to do this, but I typed Pioneer Woman Summer Stir-Fry in the search bar. I also did this with Kate's other recipe's. I'll be damned. Pioneer Women has published 70% of these recipe's.

No but I did know it was a face pucker. It would take half a bag of lemons to get a whole cup of it.
Big Fan is back under yet another name! Same tweeting style, same repetitive tweets, plus she tweeted that she lives in Hershey, which is where Big Fan claimed to live! She's the one who drove to Berks County to stalk Kate at a grocery store, wanted to clean her house and shop with her at the outlets. She asked someone if they were Portuguese (recent tweet) and I remember Big Fan said that she was Portuguese. I remember her insane tweets, asking Kate what she should do because she had to pee and her roommate was in the bathroom. She's had so many Twitter names and kept getting suspended. I wondered what happened to her! She started out as a big fan, switched to being a hater, back to being a fan,can't decide which side of the fence she is on, hates Jon, tweets random celebrities, and is just plain nuts! Apparently she is now pestering Lisa Hochstein.

No but I did know it was a face pucker. It would take half a bag of lemons to get a whole cup of it.

I'd really appreciate it if you could convert 1/2 bad of lemons to tbsps. I only measure in tbsps.

Robert is back! Robert is back! He just tweeted HCI sending them information..YAY! Welcome back Robert.

Why do I have a feeling Robert will be on ROL in the near future?
And let's not forget Kate's Famous K8 Salad. Seriously? There's a recipe for that? Will there be a picture of half an avocado, still pitted, as a garnish? Advice to spray a non-organic, commercial salad spray dressing in the air above the lettuce? Famous K8 Salad, bwahaha.
You know the boys ARE wearing the same exact shirt just different colored versions of it. It's a step up from dressing alike but I don't understand why one can't be in a polo, another in a T, another in a button down. Who cares?
I only have seen a few old episodes of that little people couple show but they seem nice and at least they work for a living. They don't strike me as divas. I wonder if Steve is feeling like there is a big difference working for them.
Admin~ Did my post to Joy in VA about DWTS get lost in the ether? I can recreate it if I have to, but I'm wondering if it might still be in the queue...
Odd, we published a string of comments and they didn't go through. Never fear will try again!

They apparently aren't allowed to cut up their own food. How could they possibly be allowed to dress themselves?!
You know the Sabra hummus in the grocery store is very good and when all is said and done probably cost about the same as buying all the ingredients separate, and a lot less time. I just bought some garlic ones and some red pepper. I use it instead of mayo. Red pepper with tuna in a wrap is wonderful. I've made hummus before, it was okay, but doing the flavored versions is so much more effort and money than just buying it.

No. I think it's freaking WEIRD.
It is not freaking WEIRD, it is normal.
Pioneer Woman has a new cookbook on pre-sale at Amazon with a release date of October 29th.
It is called The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Holidays!
150 Step-by-Step Recipes for Simple, Scrumptious Family Meals.
I bought PW's other two cookbooks and will probably buy this one too. Just because I love her blog and she seems so approachable and likeable, like you could sit down and chat with her over coffee. Total opposite of the vibe Kate gives off.
That said, all the recipes in her books are available on her website. And her books have pictures of her children in them too. I realize she is not relying on her kids to sustain her career, but I am curious as to what you're take is on that? Do you feel she is exploiting her children also?
Buy "you" I mean anyone who cares to comment.
&&&
Good theory! Totally makes sense too.
It's like she has no understanding of what lemon is, and the chemistry behind why we put it in recipes.
I like my hummus garlicy, not lemony. A lemony dip sounds gross. Also all that liquid may really water the hummus down which is gross too. I like my hummus firm. Although in Egypt their hummus was really watery like salad dressing. I didn't like it that way.
Did she actually test 108 recipes?

OMG Pink! The best laugh in a long time! I came so close to choking on my dinner. You need to work on the virtual Heimlich when you post :-)
HCI sounds like a vanity press, for sure.
18 tsp of lemon juice? That is nuts and my mouth puckers at the very thought. One of Kate's trademarks in her "recipes" is that she is slapdash and careless. Can anyone remember when and where she posted her recipe for Mac and Cheese? I remember seeing it ages ago and thought that the quantities of flour and cheese she used were so off that it would set like concrete. You'd have to use a hammer and chisel to get it out of the baking dish!
My comment was 311, but is now 330. I think the comments are there, but back more than you think they would be.
Improbable Dreams, I see your DWTTS is at number 305
I forgot to say that that was my first time posting. I read here daily but never felt the need to post, someone else has usually already said it for me.
I am not a "drive-by" trying to stir up trouble,but I did originally send my post in using Anonymous, then Admin said she was cracking down on Anonymous. So here I am and I hope my thoughts get posted.
I think Pioneer Woman could stand on her own. Most of her recipes on her web site don't feature the kids, though, and two of them are well into their teens and one almost an adult. Another huge difference is we know so little about her kids. They haven't had the ever living daylights exploited out of them since they were infants. Pioneer Woman could never mention them again and she'd still make boatloads of money--and they make plenty of money independent of her blogging, they were rich before. A few pictures of them will at most, possibly make them recognizable in airports by a few random fans, but lots of kids are recognizable. One of the biggest problems with ANYTHING involving the Gosselin kids is that no matter how innocent they may be, it's just a piling on of years and year of exploitation. It's just ONE MORE THING. With the PW kids it's not just one more thing IMO. It's not a piling on.
I can't even remember their names. Paige? I have no idea anything about Paige other than she looks like a sweet young girl. The boys? I have no idea anything about them other than they are boys boys who love sports. This is how it should be if you involve your children in your mommy blogging--clear boundaries. I think she could just leave her kids out of it, and I don't really like Mommy blogging in general when it gets more personal like that, but I don't flag her is that big of an offender.
It kind of goes back to perfection in parenting. No, I do not require parents to be perfect. No, I do not require a parent to never, EVER post a picture of their kid anywhere. I still believe strongly in that old sheeple saying parents have a right to parent as they see fit.....EXCEPT when it crosses the line into exploitation and abuse. Then you lose that right. I really don't think that many people have crossed that line as badly as Kate has. I could count the offenders as bad as her on one hand. She's out of control, so beyond the realm of decency of what most normal mommy bloggers do. It's almost an insult to compare her to them.
Welcome Danielle by the way. Glad you picked a name!
Wonder if all the food will be displayed on the customary paper plates ..
Pye
I think Kate buys the boys the same shirts in different colors so she can tell them "This week is button down collar week! and they can switch them off between each other for several days before they get dirty enough for the laundry - eg, Collin wears the white shirt twice, Aaden wears it once, Joel wears it twice. Same system with the blue and yellow shirts. Snark.
Who measures out lemon like that anyway just for hummus? I would just squirt my lemon right in directly. You add lemon, salt and pepper to taste in almost any recipe except for baking when it needs to be more precise. And not all lemons are alike. Some are stronger than others.
You have to add these things modestly then taste. Adjust if you need to, taste again. I can promise adding the same amount of lemon will not necessarily yield the same tasting hummus each time.
Welcome to amateur hour folks. Why buy a cookbook when you're a better cook?

&&&
Oh that's insane. Can I echo "sediments" that most people don't make much of anything on their books? Even if Kate made five bucks on each sale of I just want you to know with 11,000 copies that's only 55,000. And then it's over. No more sales. No real day job. 55,000 in one sitting is not enough even for a small family to quit their day job.
This is all over the internet authors spilling the beans about how much they make. This is usually at most a nice supplemental income and at worst nothing. Only a very few are lucky to be able to quit their day jobs and even then if they can't keep churning out new novels at a steady pace the income dries up.
You get into writing much like many things--because you love it, not because you want to be a millionaire. If anything celebs write books as promotional tools. Only a few really make any serious cash.
Hey look at even Obama, this is a good example. When his book first came out yeah he made several million on it. But he is incredibly popular and in a position to sell millions of copies. But the next year he made half that, and this year it's only supposed to be about 150,000 and probably by the following year he'll be lucky to make a few thousand. So it's hardly a steady income of millions. It's over with, it's in the dollar bin now too. Obviously he doesn't need the money but it's a good example of how even someone very popular can't sustain much in book sales for long. Even if you made great money the first year it wouldn't be a good idea to quit your job. There's no way Kate's niche books could even TOUCH what he made.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Funny you should say that. I am not adventurous at all and I have one very picky child so I have never tried hummus (sounds gross to me). I looked up a recipe to compare the lemon and this one uses 2 cups Chickpeas (whatever they are LOL) and "6 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (2 lemons)" So first of all if the second uses fresh squeezed lemons. Secondly if you take the ratio of 18 Tbsps/3 Cups chickpeas you then the 2 cups would be 12 Tbsps of lemon if it were equivalent. But Foodnetwork.com calls for 6, or half the lemon juice that Kate calls for. If I figured that right.
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/hummus-recipe/index.html
Yes, according to M/J's tweet to HCI, it is indeed a life changer.
She is teaching her minions the concept of stretching that half a cup out to 18 Tbsp to make it look like you worked really, really hard on that hummus.
Local try hummus as a spread like in a wrap. That might be a good way to introduce yourself to it. Or try dipping pita bread into it, or carrots.
The thing is it's very healthy for you as long as you don't overload it with salt or oil so it's a good mayo substitute.
The thing with lemon is it's just supposed to be the tool that it is, to balance the flavors. The vast majority of the time lemon is not put in recipes to TASTE the lemon. Rather as we know, it does this amazing thing with the food chemistry where it just mutes certain things a bit and brings balance to the dish. Like bringing a camera lens into focus. As far as I'm concerned there are four things you need that are essentially tools to "balance" your recipes and bring out the natural flavor--salt, pepper, lemon and garlic. If you have those four things you can make virtually anything taste good. It's like Kate doesn't understand what these things are for.
I have never heard of LEMON hummus. Garlic, yes.
Welcome to amateur hour folks. Why buy a cookbook when you're a better cook?
*******
But....but....but, isn't the purpose of this book to show off her kids and let the world know the Gosselins are still beautiful? I don't believe for a minute it was ever intended to be a real cookbook that people might slosh lemon juice and sausage cacciatore sauce on. A messy cook could plop a piece of sloppy Joel right on Kate's smiling face.
It's a book for the living room table, not the kitchen! Snark.

I checked out the lemon in all those. One calls for half a cup. One calls for THREE tablespoons and a little zest. The other calls for just a third of a cup.
Nothing close to a CUP of lemon. Thanks for pointing those though. It's interesting they call them "lemon" but with that little lemon I don't think it would be that overwhelming. That sounds like normal to me and I think I'd like it. Oddly, even though Kate uses more than double the lemon as most of those recipes, she doesn't call it "lemon."

I'm not doing your research for you. If you want to know if there any from chefs, look for them yourself. Bottom line is that you claimed the recipes do not exist and you were WRONG. Just admit it.
I think it is a mistake for people to go to Amazon and blast her--It just makes them look like crazed lunatics who have an insane vendetta against the mother of 8 children. If people would just stop trying to bring her down, she will just disappear. If anything, this will backfire because she will get some sympathy.

You're right, there are a few untested recipes from Joe Nobody for lemon hummus that don't contain anywhere close to the amount of lemon Kate has in hers, not even by HALF! Lol Seesaw I know. The bottom line is she's clueless, that's all that's being said. No need to get upset over the truth. She is the mediocre in the equation here, as much as she thinks Jon is. Of course, a lot of clueless people now have the internet at their disposal to post things, which is why I generally avoid such sites unless something has several dozen excellent ratings. At least for them they can get some honest feedback without sheeple afraid to insult their queen and help her. Why fumble around and embarrass yourself at something you haven't even bothered to learn the basics of? Why not hold your hide high at a real job?

She contradicts herself. (Google it)
Remona, I don't know, and why do I get attacked instead of the 30 other posters here who ALSO cringed over the lemon? It's a fun game. Anyone can go through and pick apart to death every post here and try to create artificial cracks, but why? Why not just let people discuss what they want to discuss, accept the occasional hyperbole, and why go to all the efforts to even bring in some obscure recipe form some unknown to "PROVE" otherwise. Creepy. You know, for the millions of recipes out there, there's probably recipes for crap on a stick out on some blog, it doesn't mean crap on a stick is any good or prevalent in the food world. The original point stands.
Cutting it off now, apologies. :)
You know, we snark on Milo, and I think we've seen her getting worse and worse in her descent into Celebrity Worship Syndrome, but with the announcement of this cookbook, she's out of control. Some of her Tweets show that she really does have mental issues that require therapy and intervention.
All kidding aside, I really do fear for Kate's safety, especially if Kate would wean her off this idol worship. Kate is enabling her, and Kate is the one who needs to figure out how to handle it. I would believe that Milo has been on the security watch list for quite some time, but if Kate has a security team, it's time they take another look at Milo...for Kate's safety, and for the children. Many times it's the obsessed fans that pose the most danger, not the haters. Milo is delusional...
