I looked at Amazon and every single comment regarding the cookbook is negative. VERY negative. Someone was also speculating that the long pre-order window (from now until September) was for the benefit of the publisher. If not enough copies are pre-ordered, the book may not even be published. I wonder if this is the case?
Just read where Honey Boo Boo's mom has a cookbook coming out this summer. Bets that it sells more than Kate???
Chef totally forgot about that! Found it in the recipes thread very easily and added it!
As far as Amazon, I think genuine comments about her and her book from those who don't follow her that closely are helpful. I think comments just meant to disrupt and are over the top from regulars who have followed her for years don't do much. I think usually the difference is pretty obvious. At the end of the day, let the book rise and fall on its own. There's no need to help it along. If it's a good book, it will sell, if it's a bad book, and let's face it, most likely it is, it will fall. Let it. It has more credibility anyway when it fails by itself without help.
On The Stir it's pretty obvious that there are many long-standing members there who feel blindsided and insulted by Kate. They sort of have a deer in headlights, I cannot believe what I'm reading is this woman for real tone to them that are missing from a "regular"'s observations. I'd love to hear what a Stir regular thinks of this cookbook.

@Kateplusmy8 I hope there is a pic of Shoka sampling ur cooking...don't want 2leave the canine cuisine dog out of the #LoveMix :)
Milo doesn't realize it, but with this tweet she basically states that Kate's food is going to the dogs.
From seeing the pictures Kate has posted of her food, they look like something only Shoka would eat.
I, personally, feel that this cookbook will meet the same fate as the "Kate cruise". Lots of hype at the beginning, then slowly falling down to a whisper. Kate doesn't promote herself well, and she has to keep the hype going now for 5 months. She couldn't even keep up the hype for her cruise-she left that up to Cindy Cardella. Does she expect HCI books to do the same?
Kate was a "one hit wonder" with Multiple Blessings. I think this book is going to be an epic fail. And when it does fail, Kate will ignore it, just like she did the not-a-cruise.
Admin...187...Hold your hide high? Thats a cute typo. When we were kids our dad always threatened to tan our hides if we were being bad. (He never ever hit us.)
I have to agree with Admin at #4. Although the comments on Amazon are overwhelmingly negative, I didn't get the sense that people are "hating" or "bullying." What I see are people calling her out based on her comments re: real cooks, her behavior on TV (editing, my a--), and also referencing Robert's book. All things that have been discussed here. SHE is the one trying to keep herself relevant by using her kids' money to publish and their pictures to attract people who will purchase her book. All 6 of them.
I'm also one to think that if enough of her recipes are proven to be copies or outright plagarized, the actual book will never be published.
Can someone please tell me why Milo is also referred to as Fired up. Sometimes Kate refers to her as Fired Up. I think she started out as Fired up for Kate.......
I'm not at all worried about this book. It won't ever get published. When the pre-orders fail to bring in more than 100 orders, and the comments continue to be negative, the "publisher" will gently advise this "cook" (said with tongue in cheek) that the venture won't be profitable, and that will be the end.
This is another cruise ship failure in the making. We will see much tweeting, probably some interviews, but in the end the dollars won't be there to support going forward.
If this is actually a self-published book and the carrier puts money into printng off some, it will just lose her money.
I also predict at some point when things look bleakest that she will switch to ebook format to avoid publication costs.
Nope folks, this dog won't hunt.....

Just another day in Kateville, Fail City, PA 88888
I love to cook and am self-taught. I mean, LOVE to cook. It makes me happy, relaxes me, and I consider it a challenge when I'm trying out a new dish.
I have a nice collection of wonderful cookbooks and am admittedly very picky about cookbooks.
That being said, even if I didn't know squat about this child exploiting asswipe, one look at the cover tells me NOPE! I'd give it half a glance, if that, in the bookstore and put it back like it was on fire.
Why?
I'm not interested in "cutesy" ideas for cookbooks, including "LOOK I'VE GOT SO MANY KIDS, HA! COOKING!"
But the thing that really kills it for me?
The FOOD ON THE COVER.
Two cookie sheets with UNCOOKED cookie dough WADS on them?
And a BOWL?
Please excuse my language, but what the F*CK is that??? Is that supposed to make me want to fork over good money to make this person's recipes?
UNCOOKED DOUGH WADS?
Whoever designed and photographed the cover was clearly amateur. No thanks. I want to see an enticing dish on the cover. Perhaps a new twist on an old favorite. Or a new way of preparing something that's been done before. Something classic, or beautiful, or simple. Or all three!
But this shit?
Clearly, it's about her and not her "recipes." I have Pinterest, and you can find more great recipes on Pinterest than you can shake a stick at. Ditto allrecipes (which is a fantastic site).
So to get me to actually buy a cookbook, it's got to be professional and enticing. This is neither.
I have to laugh. Her big announcement is a piddly cookbook that'll end up in the dollar bin with her other books.
Kate, stop killing trees in your effort to stay in the spotlight. You're an untalented ass.
I was wondering if, in order to avoid the fact she may have plagiarized recipes, she refers to measurements in different ways to through people off. Like the 18 tablespoons of lemon juice instead of just under a cup. I know those sticks of butter have the number of tablespoons on them so could it be her way of altering an already existing recipe she got off AllRecipes.com for example? If she copied a recipe but added one more teaspoon of butter, would that still be copying someone's recipe? I would think she would have to make tiny changes if her plan was to copy some recipes.....
Can someone please tell me why Milo is also referred to as Fired up. Sometimes Kate refers to her as Fired Up. I think she started out as Fired up for Kate.......
I find it extremely funny that Kate announced this book this morning, yet not one major tabloid has picked up the story. There are a total of TWO articles, one at gather.com and one at examiner.com.
She got more press when she attacked Carlos Gosselin, yet today there is barely a whisper.

If, on a cookbook pre-order website, calling her a child abuser and a mother who smacks her kids around, isn't hating, then what is it? Yes, the comments are negative, but they are also putting the screws to her by calling her out on beating the kids. It's one thing to post pictures of the slop she's shown on her blog, but another to link a photo of one of the sick boys on the fishing boat, looking emaciated.
I think that some of these comments, especially those involving the children, do show some of these people to be crazy haters and in the end, it will backfire on them. Call her out on her lack of cooking skills, but keep the kids and the beating issues out of it.
I read this blog daily. But I have to say, the first time I laughed out loud was just now after reading Kate is a slag's post. God forgive me but I like your humor. LOL.
She should have changed the title. When you Google it, 99% is about the 2009 cookbook.
I also thought raw cookie dough balls were a poor choice for a cookbook cover. All the kids on the front with their hands all over the dough might cause me to assume it's a primary cook book for children to learn the basics of measuring, mixing, the joys of parchment paper, etc. while making simple things in a new way.
But no, it's Kate cooking and the kids posing for the camera so we can all gawk at them some more.
Kate, all I csn say is "hope for the best and prepare for the worst."

I'm like really Kate you're the queen of lying.
Haha, so she jumps on at 11:30 at night to deny a story as all lies that she is moving to LA (come on, a family law court probably would never let her do that anyway even if she tried), but she won't deny that she is suing her children's father and wants him thrown in jail.
She'll go to the ends of the earth to defend herself but darned if she'll bother to defend her children's father they love.
Rachael Ray has a recipe for Lemon-Garlic hummus. It has a whopping entire zest and juice of A (one) lemon. Does that count as a lemon hummus recipe by a famous chef?
Wait a sec!!
You need money TOO? Was that a freudian slip? As in she's desperate for money too? Well, you could always GET A JOB. There's that.
Butterfly, I think that counts as a recipe that sounds EDIBLE! Haha. Hummus often DOES contain lemon I'm not disputing that, as do so many other recipes. Just not an entire cup of it, blech!
I wish Kate would recognize she shouldn't have had kids like Rachel does.
Sorry for all the typos on my previous post. For some reason I cannot comment from my desktop or laptop with I.E. or Firefox. The only other option was my Kindle using a stylus. It's slow but it works. Can't wait for Robert's revised book. I was lucky enough to get the original.
Admin, anything is a step up compared to Kate. Bill has a great personality & good sense of humor. I think Steve probably had fun with Bill & Jen. It had to be more fun than traveling with someone who has a stick up her a$$.
Wonder who she's referring to with "rent money". Robert? Another slam at Jon? Someone who she thinks tips off NBNRob.

You're deflecting fromt the point I was making originally anyway. I said Kate probably takes whatever recipe she's using and mulitplies the ingredients in them by 8. She wants people to believe she's preparing meals for a paving crew when in actuality she's giving her kids scant little portions. Her twitter pics are proof of that.

What is it? Calling KK a child abuser and a mother who smacks her kids around is the TRUTH. There is not one single thing wrong with despising a person who beats her children and dogs. Period.
Haha, so she jumps on at 11:30 at night to deny a story as all lies that she is moving to LA (come on, a family law court probably would never let her do that anyway even if she tried), but she won't deny that she is suing her children's father and wants him thrown in jail.

But Kate continues to involve the children in her latest attempt to get money from the public and keep herself in the public eye. The people on Amazon AND this blog are only making observations re: things we have all noticed and commented on in the past as well as quoting Robert's book which is based on her JOURNALS that she has never ONCE denied as lies.
If she's going to market some cookbook full of slop with her kids' photos front and center as well as throughout the book, then she should be called out on her pathetic attempt at gaslighting the public. It still doesn't equal hating or bullying. Now if the posters here or at Amazon were starting off every sentence with Kate is a "blankety-blank-blank b---- or c---" that is hating and bullying (at least in my book). Again, Kate is the one that has made statements and exhibited behavior that has been captured forever on film and in her own journals.
Maybe I'm not explaining myself very well .. .
If she copied a recipe but added one more teaspoon of butter, would that still be copying someone's recipe
------------------
Yes, it's still plagiarism. If you write a research paper and copy the work of someone else, but change only a few words here and there, no prof in the world is going to accept the argument that it's your paper. You submit it to turnitin.com, and it will show the percentage of the paper that is plagiarized. It's enough to earn you a failing grade.
Nope folks, this dog won't hunt.....

Oh snap. Haha. So three obscure no-man recipes with no ratings versus 600,000 hits that say DON'T DO THAT? :) Of course they were deflecting from the main point. That's the game.
I got the main point, myself.
lol Admin. Just noticed your "Top Kate" visual. Funny! Kate with sharp shiney knife....BAD.
I've been waiting for you to photoshop Carlos the Blighted Ovum into the cover photo of her cookbook, but I gather she's banned him from 'the mix'.
Omg I so want to photoshop Carlos in, right next to Kate! When is her birthday again? I'm surprised I don't remember given how much she's mentioned it. Tomorrow, Friday? That could be my birthday present and it won't come in the mail.
The 28th. And look at that. there IS a space open right beside Kate's head just waiting. hahahaha!!
Ha I even see a pic of Carlos in a pastel shirt that would fit perfectly in this cover lol.
Kate would hate us.
Really dumb question --
Why would you order and PAY FOR a book that you won't get for six months? Why give them your money so far ahead of time? Why not just wait and purchase it when it's released? It's not like there's going to be such a demand that there won't be enough copies to go around. Nobody is going to be beating her door down to buy this book. I would think that if you want the book, you buy it when it's available.
Kate seems to have picked up the vernacular of her tweeties, claiming any "lie" about her is printed because the rent money is due, which is what her enablers always claimed about Jon whenever a negative article appeared about her.
&&&
Which is, you know, so much better than pimping out your kids all through a three hundred page cookbook to pay the rent.
She is a joke.
Her birthday is Thursday, March 28. And Carlos in the family photo would be lovely, a perfect gift. Great idea.
Naaa she doesn't hate us. She's all about love. She said so.
Anyway, she needs to pull the stick out and get a sense of humor. Her cookbook is pretty funny, so that's a start.
No one was throwing a fit except you. There is no rule you can't remark on a recipe and say what you think of it, heck even say you don't like it and it doesn't suit your taste. If there were such a rule, none of the three obscure recipes you posted would allow for comments and ratings. If you'd prefer that people not comment on your recipes, it's simple, you don't have to put them on the internet or in a book. Or you can put them on a private blog. I don't put my recipe folder online, simple as that, because I don't want to hear what you think of it.
Ha I even see a pic of Carlos in a pastel shirt that would fit perfectly in this cover lol.
-------------------------
A very BIG pastel polo shirt!
And you know, none of the three recipes you posted had anywhere close to the amount of lemon Kate put in hers, so your point remains unproven. I agree with the other poster who said I don't care how much you like lemon any dip will be ruined by THAT much.
Lemon isn't like lettuce or carrots where you can pile on whatever and it doesn't make much of a difference. There is quickly a crossing point where you've gone too far with lemon. Actually, just like salt. It only takes a pinch before you've reached the point where you've ruined it.
Google Is Your Friend - I don't think anyone's throwing a fit, but I got your point. Thank you.
So...what are your thoughts on string beans and snow peas in sausage cacciatore?
Sillimom how is your dog doing? Speaking of dogs we are getting our second foster tomorrow. I can't wait. I have a long weekend so it's a good time to be with the pup. She's four months old!
Hey, why isn't there a big garbage bag taped to the counter top? Wish that could also be photo-shopped into the cover picture! I mean, it is not a lie, since she has done it before.
Please, please, please put Carlos into the picture as kate's birthday gift from us!
There is not one single thing wrong with despising a person who beats her children and dogs. Period.
-------------------------------
Of course not. Nobody said that there was. However, to put it in the comment section of a cookbook pre-order is not the place for it, and neither is linking a photo of one of the boys looking like death warmed over on a boat. What does that have to do with the cookbook? Call Kate out on the horrible garbage she cooks, on her lies, on her plagiarizing recipes, on her failed ventures, but why bring the kids, beatings and child abuse into it even if it is the truth? If they have to resort to this to bring her down, it makes them look like nothing more than obsessed haters and gives her more credibility when she claims she's the victim of bullying. It gives her more ammunition when she plays the sympathy card.
Foodies don't say gross??? Well, I didn't know that. Thanks for informing me. I will never say such a thing again. Except what do I do when something IS gross? I thought foodie meant that you are really into various foods, recipes, and cooking, eating for the culinary experience and not just to satisfy hunger. Not that you are Charles Dickens. I'm sorry did I claim to be a food critic or blogger or food writer? Ugh, it's a silly celebrity blog, get a sense of humor.
You do know how transparent you are right? Why don't you email me so you take get your frustrations out on just ME and stop taking this blog on this stupid ride? Thanks.
So...what are your thoughts on string beans and snow peas in sausage cacciatore?
&&&
Me, me, me...GROSS! :)
I can't fathom why you won't simply admit that you were wrong.
&&&
I can't fathom how you missed post 187, Google, in which I said "You're right". How much clearer do I have to be, Google? YOU'RE RIGHT. What else do you want? You're right, your majesty? :) The second you posted those recipes I told you you were right. You're ridiculous.
&&
More than a pinch of salt most definitely does not ruin food for me.
&&&
That's not what I meant whatsoever. I meant that the line between something that tastes good, and tastes too salty, is a fine one, i.e. five pinches may be just right, six may ruin it. Not that you ONLY need a pinch of salt on anything. That's ridiculous as any cook knows. Many things need much more than a pinch, like potatoes. In fact I've done an entire salt covered chicken. It breaks off like a crust.
I don't think posting the photo of the thin child is helpful, but I find the child abuse highly relevant especially when she is trying to engage the kids in yet another venture. She abuses them both physically (at least in the past she did) and emotionally by exploiting them in this way. I think it just gives a broader perspective of who this woman is trying to sell her kids and should make any buyer question whether they want to give her money. In other words she is not innocent. Why should a child abuser make money off their kids, or anyone? If Casey Anthony wrote a cookbook I would expect people to post in the comments, you know about her child right?
I wish I could have our birthday present for Kate ready for tomorrow but I don't see as I will have time. Too much going on tomorrow. However perhaps she will take it as an Easter present!
Kate's cookbook? I really don't care and won't think about it again after this.
I do have a question tho...Do you really think she's that bad of a cook? I guess I'm wondering if she makes this craptastic food to "punnish" the kids.Another way for her to control them. Kinda like...I had to cook for you brats so this is the crap you get to eat tonight...eat it or go hungry! Geez...You pissed me off again,so here's you'r slop for tonight. The kid's really couldn't complain to anyone...people would say...she did feed them dinner....they are just too picky.
I feel so bad for the kids. Stuck with this beast and no one to help them.
I hope Robert's book is coming very soon.
Kate famously said "Real cooks don't use recipes". Would It be plagiarism if I changed it to " Real cooks don't use KATE'S recipes"? I am , after all, taking her statement and adding one word to make it a truthful statement and she might want to sue me. Well plagiarism or not I'm going to say unequivocally, REAL COOKS DON'T NOW, NOR WILL THEY EVER USE KATE'S RECIPES!
Admin -- you could put Carlos over there on the left to hide that piece of oven hanging out. :-)
Just a reminder-Today is Kate's 38th birthday, but it is also "National Something on a Stick Day".
Kate, Happy Birthday--but it's time to pull out the stick, and also to forget the schtick!
Kate & Octo mom are the same age hahahah.
Congrats on your new foster puppy Admin.! What a big heart you must have, not a lot of people can do what you do. I just got my second rescue, she is a Maltese x, 8 years old, frail and very under weight, with stage 4 peridontal disease. She comes from abuse, spent her first 2 years CHAINED outdoors, all year round, and we get very cold winters in Saskatchewan. The owner got new boyfriend, who does not like small dogs, so did not want her anymore. @Kateplusmy8 I think a kindergarden/daycare chain run/founded by u would still b a hit. Something affordable for multiple kid households
I got moved to a regular room this afternoon! Feeling better. God is soooo good!
Love the TOP kate!
kate is Absolutely wearing a WIG! Her hair was so straw and straight and extremely baby fine on CWS. The hair that she is wearing in the picture is a wig. It looks like it was curled with a large roll curling iron and you can't get that with her hair that is so baby fine and straw like. It wouldn't hold it, it would fall apart.
When I saw the Very Sloppy Joel's, I thought wow. I know that was a big jab at Joel for having that very sloppy accident during potty training and she exploded and jerked him up by the hair of his 2 yr. old head and threw him into the crib and beat him with the wooden spoon.
She also said, we do not live like dogs.
kate has major childhood issues that she hasn't never dealt with. Remember when she was talking on the phone w/the therapist and she asked kate about her childhood and kate said this phone call is over.
Tonight on the news in Huntsville, AL, a contract worker at a elementary school was in the library and went up to a little 8 yr. old boy who had talked and the man told him to come with him to get a beating for talking and he told him if he didn't come with him, it was going to be much worser! He took that little boy back into an office in the library, walked him in and shut and locked the door and then he turned off the lights! He took his studded belt off and beat him severely. The little boy went home and then the next night he couldn't sleep and went and woke up this mother and told her and now they fired him, but no arrest, YET!
The mother said that the man had have had did this before her son. I feel so bad for that little boy.
He and kate both deserve to go to jail.
I just started to re-read Robert's book, I was so lucky to have got it the first time. I am at the story about Collin and the donuts, brings tears to my eyes when he talks about his big heart. She never deserved those kids.
I will have to agree that 1 cup of lemon juice for a standard hummus recipe is way too much. All you would taste is lemon. Good for limoncello, not for hummus.

Why bring the kids into a discussion of KK's cookbook with the kids on the cover, and filled with photos of the kids? The kids she abused, and then uses them in yet another attempt to make money for her on their backs? Why tell the truth instead of sitting back and remain silent about her abuse?
I think that every time KK appears, everyone should be reminded of the way she abused those children and animals. Those that keep her abusive behavior up front are the ones that care about her children. KK is bringing herself down, and the more people that refuse to keep silent about her abusive behavior, the less ammunition she has to play the sympathy card.

Ingrid I was laughing at that recipe, too. 18 tablespoons is MORE than a cup. That much lemon juice would make the hummus inedible IMO. Wonder if anyone besides Kate and the 8 tested the recipes. Blech.
I wonder if anyone proofread the book!

Kate probably told them she wouldn't need a proofreader because she is so good at grammar and spelling. ha!

My point is that whenever the haters get going on tirades, they call attention to themselves and may, in the eyes of others, look like obsessed nutcases out to get Kate. She, in turn, can use it to her advantage when she cries victim.
Changing subjects -- I wonder if the publisher of the cookbook checked out the recipes to see if any of them were lifted elsewhere.
Hi Admin - He's doing much better, thanks for asking. :-) When we woke up, the swelling had gone down quite a bit. We took him to the vet and she thinks it's an allergic reaction to a spider bite or bee sting. He's getting 75mg of Benadryl (yup, just over the counter, generic Benadryl). Rather than making him sleepy, though, it seemed to make him more hyper. So that's going to make for an interesting night.
Unfortunately, she said that if it happens again his reaction will likely be even more severe (possibly even anaphylactic). So we just really need to keep an eye on him and keep him from hunting every darn thing in the yard. If he does get stung again, then it's dose him with the Benadryl as we put him in the car to go get an epinephrine shot.
Funny, I just never thought of a dog being allergic like that before. It's kind of scary in a way. He's my baby. I mean, I know he's a dog and everything, but he's with me all day at home, we bike ride together, he's been very therapeutic for my kids, especially my 9 year old. He really is a great companion and I would just hate it if anything happened to him. We'd be devastated.
I won't buy any of her books at any price. If it was free, I might take it(or not) and draw nasty things on Kates face and write nasty comments.

KateGosselin@@MiloandJack @SteveGarretson shhh hush, fired up! I announced my book to distract from that birthday mess! Lol!
OMG! What a lie. She is saying she announced her book yesterday instead of on her birthday (today) because she didn't want to distract from her birthday. Bullshit! She was going to announce it on her birthday but this blog beat her to it. And she knows it. She woke up this morning and twazzup with ALL her tweets were all about the news of her cookbook. She had no choice but to announce it yesterday because the announcement was already made for her.

@Sparkles2213 I've been waiting for years too.. To have enough time to do it! Yay! It was a joy, just like my other books!
Bullshit again. She has NOT waited years to put out her cookbook. She wrote a cookbook in 2009 and it wasn't published then. It had nothing to do with time.
Kate must be wearing a wig because it looks exactly like the hairdo she had for the Fall pictures shot at the house a couple years ago. It just looks too similar.
Nothing much to say about this as it has already been said very well by the posters here. I feel an epic fail coming on with this book. This will be fun to watch.
Vanessa...With regard to Teresa Guidice of RHONJ. She has three cookbooks and all have been NYTimes best sellers. She has a fourth one (about grilling) coming out this spring. It might be out already, I'm not sure. I have her first three cookbooks and they are good. Her recipies are easy to follow and she has great pictures and stories in the books as well. I plan on buying her grilling cookbook as well. She certainly has done a good job of capitalizing on her 15 minutes of fame.
Laurie, Please do not print the results from testing the hummus recipe on Amazon. I am afraid if you do, then the publishers may fix the recipe. I want the world to know what a stupid ass Kate is with the 18TBL. and missing spellings. Just print your results on this blog, please.
Someone mentioned that Kate's name was mentioned on DWTS and it got boos. What was said about her, please? Just curious.
Leslie
Formerly Duped wrote in post #104 that the hummus recipe was written in one of Kate's previous books. Does anyone have the book to look up the recipe? I am very curious if that hummus recipe called for the 18TBL. of lemon and if the other word (the sesame paste stuff) was misspelled in it to. I can't believe she is including previous recipes from her previous books in this new cookbook?

I looked at Amazon and every single comment regarding the cookbook is negative. VERY negative. Someone was also speculating that the long pre-order window (from now until September) was for the benefit of the publisher. If not enough copies are pre-ordered, the book may not even be published. I wonder if this is the case?
==============
The long pre-order is for Kate's benefit. This POD publisher doesn't care.
Kate pockets the cover price of the book minus the cost per book. (And remember she's already paid all kinds of fees for HCI's services and book creation. Her actual profit begins only AFTER the sale of enough books covers it.)
HCI has their profit per book built into the printing cost they quote Kate. Much as I hate to give Kate credit, the pre-order is a pretty savvy move--although I think March to September is outrageously long.
Look at it this way. Kate could have had HCI print the books immediately. They're ready, and it doesn't take long. But when HCI said, "Okay, Kate! How many? These are color so they're already expensive to print. If we print a lot, you can get your cost per book down."
How many to print? Print a lot, have a lower price per book (and higher profit margin for Kate), but maybe get stuck with all the leftover books? Or play it safe, print a lower quantity, but LOWER her profit per book? What a problem for greedy Kate, who wants to get everything free and have others pay for it.
So she and HCI hatched the idea of gathering orders and sheeple cash first. HCI probably told her the first 5 or 6 months of a book's release were critical. Take the pulse. See what the interest is. And the sheeple's cash will not only cover much of the initial printing, it will give her a much better idea of just how many sheeple are out there. So Kate has lowered her risk, made the sheeple wait, and effectively exploited them all at once.
HCI probably told Kate she could have a pre-order window of "up" to 5 or 6 months. Well, we know Kate. She's going to have the sheeple pay for as much of the initial print run as possible.
Around 2 or 3 weeks before the September release date, Kate and HCI will put their heads together, count the cash and book orders, and use that to determine how many to print overall. I see this as Kate being very unsure about how many people will actually part with their money for her book. She's hedging her bets.
The problem with this is that people get bored with waiting. Who wants to wait until practically next fall to get the book? Enthusiasm dims. If the sheeple could have the book in their hands in, say, four weeks, they can tell their sheeple friends how AWESOME it is. No way to do that now. By September, the cookbook will be old news.
Thanks for the good wishes on my books! They're about the suffering of real children (based on history), a topic I know this list cares about. Some of the children survive and overcome the situation. Wish I could say more. :/
Ah, it's b-day girl day and the twits have started their adulation of their mom hero.
Interesting still is that I thought for sure by this morning when I Googled her cookbook release it would pop up, but still the 99% of internet topics are on the 2009 "kookbook". You would think with all the money she paid for the publishing "advice" they would have recommended she change the name.
Thanks, Robert, for adding some mystery to this whole debacle. You must have something that the publisher was unaware of when they signed her up (like plagarism). I bet you have the material from her original cookbook, don't you?

Just a reminder-Today is Kate's 38th birthday, but it is also "National Something on a Stick Day".
===========
lol, good one!
I just caught that this "cookbook" doesn't come out until September. WTF? Even the author of The Kite Runner didn't put out pre-order on his next book that far out, and there's a lot of demand for his books (he also wrote A Thousand Splendid Suns).
I think whoever said it above is probably right--they are seeing how much demand there is and that will determine if/how much it gets printed.
So yeah, it very likely will be the book version of the cruise. If Kate weren't such a nasty, scheming, superficial child exploiter, I'd actually feel sorry for her.
Paper Plates Forever, your name has always cracked me up!

Also why you should mention that Kate is a child & animal abuser.
Is because she walks around like a super mom that would do anything for her kids.
But she won't defend that she didn't hit them or hit their pet.
She throws their loving dad under the bus when ever where ever she can.
She'll defend her "relationship" with a married man but not her children or their father. (sad)
I could go on and on but her fans won't realize her their. Queen is a fake and that she uses her children.

I hope Steve finds the Klein/Arnold family to be as fun and as happy as they come across on TV. They seem like genuinely nice people.
Gee, do you think it's the editing, and in reality we would find Jen and Bill to be rude,
obnoxious and angry all the time?

I think if Steve is looking to work with a genuinely nice, good hearted and wonderful spirit of a woman for a change, Jen is his girl. She really exudes warmth and kindness to everyone she interacts with. I love her upbeat and uplifting nature and her easy happy smile. Bill found a real gem.
Celebrity Dirty Laundry has a not too nice article about Kate's book. I love the editor's note at the end:

So...what are your thoughts on string beans and snow peas in sausage cacciatore?...
Exactly and you could google sausage cacciatore recipes until the cows come home, you're not going to find one with string beans and snow peas in it. Good grief. The woman is not-a-cook.
So here's the skinny on that (I think): Take a traditional recipe, swap out a few ingredients, and call it your own. Bizarre as those combinations might seem to us, I think that's Kate's way of "inventing" new recipes.
Another perfect spot for Carlos would be the huge space between Kate and Mady. Carlos has such a nice smile it would add to the family portrait.

I don't want to sound like I'm defending Kate here but I think that the Sloppy Joel's recipe is not meant as a slam on the boys but rather a play on words since the name of the sandwich is Sloppy Joe's and Joel is the closest name. There's enough to pick on with her cooking without having to manufacture things.
Lukebandid I'm glad that you're feeling better and out of ICU.
I would love to hear Anthony Bourdain critique
Kate's crookbook.
Betcha it will be filled with expletives.
Kate was making a sad face on twitter, because she has to bake her own bday cake. Gee, I wonder why her good friends the DC Cupcake girls aren't fedexing her 38 cupcakes in honor of her 38th bday? And where are all of the birthday tweets from her celebrity "friends"? Kelly Ripa, Roma Downey, Mark Burnett, the DWTS people, Donald Trump, the View ladies?? Hmmm...
Now that we have photographic evidence that Stevie is still employed by TLC (Little People), then the Kate affair rumors were either started by TLC or at the very least encouraged for publicity. I still believe that she was into him and I think it morphed into something more than just the employer/employee relationship on her side. I will never understand how Steve's wife put up with it for those years. TLC must be paying well.

*****
Better yet, just wait for it to tank and go to the dollar bin.
Marie
Is Carlos a typo for Carla's?
Marie
You know, normal people who publish cookbooks would engage others as recipe testers before they actually publish. Of course Kate didn't do that because 1), she is so socially isolated she doesn't have anyone she can ask to do this, and 2) she doesn't really care about the final product; she just wants to con her way into making a quick buck, which has been her MO since day 1.
The other thing is that she is so married to getting her way and proving a point that she doesn't think strategically. Someone here pointed out that if you Google "Love is in the Mix," you get the *old* (not published) book. Kate probably wanted to thumb her nose at Zondervan and her critics and emphasize that the title is hers and she *did* publish. But it would have been far smarter to have gone with a new title. How many people will search for the book with the intention of buying, come up with the old title, and then give up? How would it benefit you to cause that kind of confusion? Also, there was talk that the previous book was canned because of plagiarism claims. Why would she want the new book to be associated with that mess? She's such an idiot.
From Kate's manic tweeting on her birthday, it looks like all she has planned is a dinner with her kids. No birthday celebration in NYC or on a beach, Kate? How mediocre. Heh.

Prairiemary oh your poor Maltese. Thank God she's with someone like you now. Poor baby. :(
Jennifer I agree 100%. Plus Love is in the Mix isn't that great of a title, she could have thought of something better. But that's her mediocre thinking again--she actually thinks she stumbled upon the title of the century.
I've never preordered a book before when you preorder does it charge you or do you get charged when it's released?
I wonder if there's a money back guarantee with the cookbook. If you buy it and try the recipes and they're crap shouldn't you be able to get your money back?
On Amazon, presuming books work the same as everything else, you pay at shipment. If the price goes down in the interim, you pay the lower price. If the price goes up, you pay the price listed at the time you ordered. It's Amazon's Low Price Guarantee.

Here's Kate's hummus recipe found on a fan site:
Organic Hummus and Pita
1 can organic garbanzo beans
1 organic lime - juiced
2 tbs organic extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic
2 tbs onion
2 tsp garlic powder
salt and pepper to taste
pita pocketsDirections
Drain the garbanzo beans and reserve the liquid.
Put all the ingredients in the food processor except for the pita pockets.
You may add lime zest if you like and add the garbanzo bean juice as needed to bring the hummus to a nice dipping consistency.
The Pita pockets need to be toasted.
Tear a piece off the pita bread and dip into the hummus
It seems her recipe has changed a bit.
I wonder if all of her recipes are supersized? Using 3 cans of garbanzo beans makes a F*ckload of hummus (VEEP reference!). I made a full rice bowl of hummus using 1 can, with tahini. For most people, Kate's recipes would make way, way too much food.
I wonder if she had the foresight to downsize her recipes to make them applicable for most of her audience.
Lots of love to the abused Maltese!
Lukebandit- I'm happy to hear you're progressing and wish you health and happiness.
Do they give you any warning when they are about to charge your card? For some people I would think having a sudden 20 dollar charge that they forgot they made 6 months ago could be disastrous.
Wikipedia says...
Pre-ordering is a MARKETING TACTIC...
Reasons for this vary, typically publishers wish to ensure strong initial sales for a product, and the offered incentive is used to induce shoppers (who might otherwise wait for positive reviews or a specific shopping period like the holiday season) to commit to a purchase. Having paid for part or all of the purchase when placing the order, these consumers will usually complete the transaction shortly after the product's release, often on its first day in stores. Individual stores or retail chains may also offer bonuses for a popularly anticipated product, to ensure that the customer chooses to buy at that location, rather than from a competitor.
I wonder if Kate's meatloaf-ish recipe will be in her book, and if she actually honed her ingredient and time amounts to actually instruct someone to duplicate her recipe.
Have a good laugh at this:
Kate's Hearty Meatloaf Recipe
Meatloaf Recipe Provides Great Dinner and Perfect Leftovers
Oct. 16, 2008 —
Dinner is made easy with this simple meatloaf recipe, and it's perfect for a sit-down meal with your family and friends. Or take it on the go the next day and make a tasty meatloaf sandwich for lunch. Either way, this recipe is sure to please your taste buds and your wallet. For more meal ideas, check out "GMA's" recipe index.
Kate's Meatloaf
makes 10 slices
Ingredients
2 pounds organic ground beef 2-3 eggs Finely chopped (I use food processor on pulse) celery, onion, green pepper, carrots- about 3/4-1 cup of each. About 1½-2 cups of breadcrumbs- Italian seasoned if on hand. Otherwise, plain works too. May need more breadcrumbs depending on the consistency of the meatloaf. About 3/4 cup shredded or grated Parmesan cheese (whichever's on hand). About ¼ to ½ cup ketchup. About 2 teaspoons of Italian seasoning About 1 teaspoon of garlic salt
Directions
Mix all the ingredients together in a large mixing bowl and divide equally into two separate meat loaves. Add a squirt of ketchup to the top of each in a zig-zaggy design. I cover with foil and bake in either a meatloaf pan or a glass bread baking dish at 350 degrees for about an hour (depending on oven) or until bubbly and center is no longer pink.
During the last 15 minutes or so, I remove foil covering and finish baking uncovered.
When there's leftovers (usually I have about half a loaf left over) I put a slice between wholegrain bread with some mayo and ketchup swirled together (a la French dressing!), and a slice of lettuce and tomato too for a delicious meatloaf sandwich for the next day!
Yummy!
Recipe courtesy of Kate Gosselin.
Too bad, so sad she has to bake her own birthday cake. Pretty much the mom norm, Kate. Her older daughters are old enough to bake, but probably are not allowed in the kitchen under penalty of severeness. My birthday is Dec 26; no one even wants to look at a cake. Grow up already. Yes, where are her bff cupcake girls?

I agree. What Kate thinks is darling is really twee and amateur. Her overuse of treacly terms and alliteration is what I'd expect from a 6th grader.
I think folksy works with Pioneer Woman, but Kate is ANYTHING but folksy.
I wonder if one friend (besides Deanna) or family member will wish her Happy Birthday.
How sad that complete strangers are the only ones tweeting her. And how sad she has no plans at all except dinner with her kids. Because she has dinner with them every night unless they go out to dinner than it really isn't a plan for anything different.

Just scroll down to almost the end and there are a few recipes, including the hummus one. The hummus one is exactly the same as it is in the new book, 18 tbsps. and all.
I have to laugh, because just before the recipes it says "Enjoy these recipes from Kate's new cookbook, Love is in the Mix, Coming soon!!" IJWYTK was published in April 2010.
My point is that whenever the haters get going on tirades, they call attention to themselves and may, in the eyes of others, look like obsessed nutcases out to get Kate. She, in turn, can use it to her advantage when she cries victim.
I do agree with that perspective sometimes. For the people who don't know much about the situation, it probably *does* look like a bunch of whack jobs just out to get Kate. And they just feel bad for poor little Katie, who has done nothing to attract this kind of bullying.
Which then makes it so easy for Kate to pull out the "poor me" card.
Especially a company, like The Stir or Coupon Cabin, who apparently don't do their due diligence. Kate just tells them that, yeah, people hate me. I don't know why. They're all mean people. Look at all the mean things they say about me. Poor, innocent me.
Then they have to work with her, and realize, oh, I guess those whack jobs maybe weren't so nuts after all.
HOW IRONIC. From The Stir, May 29,2009 under Food and Party.
...Excerpts from the book have not yet been released, but commenters on Amazon.com have already started slamming Kate's previously released recipes and say she stole them "from product boxes and magazine articles." One person wrote that her recipe for "Monkey Munch" is the same as one on the Chex website and calls it "plagiarism." Others were shocked that the woman who once said that "real cooks don't need recipes" was qualified to write a cookbook. They wrote on Amazon.com that on the show, Kate does little to "no cooking, no meals, just snacks—crackers, yogurt, grapes, cukes and peppers in pita. The woman can't cook."
prairiemary, this little dog won the lottery when you rescued her! Never can understand how people treat dogs that way. I'm thinking of adopting a third rescue I saw in a nearby shelter. Now if only hubby will agree... : )
So funny she used an ORGANIC lime, ORGANIC olive oil, and ORGANIC beans. Now that she is foregoing her 6 years of principles & claims of being an organic cook aside for bigger sales profit.
So Kate, do you cook organic for your family, you claim you do, then why are you putting your family recipes in a cookbook that is not organic?
You Kate, are a freaking fraud. Of course you are willing to lie in your cookbook and forgot your family is organic to gain more sales and more money for yourself. Just like you claimed you were a devote Christian to gain entrance into the churches and into the pocketbooks of the devoted.
My have you fallen Kate. You used to charge $20 for a photo of your family in the house of God. Now to get $20 from your fans, you have to include a cookbook with lots of photos of your family on the internet. I shutter to think what is next on your agenda for your little children.

Love in the Mix: Making Meals Into Memories, a title which surely was cooked up before all the alleged trouble began, will feature favorite recipes of the family, tips on eating organically and feeding a large family on a budget. The book, which is supposed to be out in either October or November and sells for about $30, is available now for preorder from Amazon, publisher Zondervan and other booksellers.
According to Zondervan, "Kate also offers insight into handling picky eaters, making lunchtime fun, planning meals for vacations, and making ordinary days extra special."

Oh, Kate is a Twit, I didn't know that you previously wrote the same thing I did about the 18TBL. of lemon. Sorry!

I forgot about what the meatloaf recipe had. It is just all beef---the end result would be very greasy---blech! It doesn't say if she uses lean or regular beef but either way, it probably tastes like you are eating a dry greasy hamburger, not a meatloaf. I use a mix of pork, veal, and beef for my meatloaf---I LOVE the taste of the combined meats and it cooks great that way. It adds alot of flavor and keeps it moist too. when you use the correct ratios, it never gets too greasy. I use the same meats for my meatballs too. I sometimes add a splash of milk to it hold it together if it seems to start drying out as I am mixing it together. I image the volumes of breadcrumbs and ground beef makes it rather dry because there was only the eggs to bind it.

Virginia Pen Mom -- Thanks for your posts. You confirmed some of the things I thought I knew about publishing and told me more things I didn't know. I appreciate the information. I like your scenario about KK/HCIs discussions. Only one problem there, that I see. If you pre-order a book on Amazon or from Barnes&Noble, you don't pay until the book ships (or is delivered to your e-reader), AND you can cancel pretty much right up to the release date, so there would be no upfront cash from pre-orders. I don't know how BAM works, because I've never pre-ordered from them. They may be counting on pre-charging those who order from KKs website (unless she's linking directly to Amazon or one of the other sellers) or from HCI. Either way, I think KKs screwed in the long run. I really wish there were some way for us to learn the titles of your books. They sound like the sort of things I like to read. Of course, there's not much I don't like to read, LOL.
Admin -- Amazon doesn't warn you before your credit card is charged. When I pre-order a book from them, I always make a note on my calendar for a few days before the book's release date, so I don't get caught unprepared.

She comes from abuse, spent her first 2 years CHAINED outdoors, all year round, and we get very cold winters in Saskatchewan. The owner got new boyfriend, who does not like small dogs, so did not want her anymore. I love her already, she is happy and thriving, and the other 4 dogs just love her.Could you ever even imagine kate doing what we do? Never.

Re the long pre-order time period. That's not all that unusual. J.K Rowling's most recent book, "The Casual Vacancy" had about a 6 month pre-order. I've seen some that were a year or more. I pre-ordered a book by one of my favorite mystery writers (Deborah Crombie)last summer, and the book was released Feb. 19th. It just depends upon the author and the publisher. Self-pubs usually don't have a very long pre-order, if they have one at all.
IMO- The book will get published. With today's printing industry and on-demand publishing, there's no reason not to publish any book. The questions is, how many will they produce in the initial run? A printer can produce 1000 books rather easily and then reprint later if there is a demand.
Publishers expect the 'author' to have a platform to promote their own books. The author is expected to do the majority of the marketing. This is true for any author with the exception of the few big names that we all know and love.
I agree with Admin, let the book rise and fall on its own. Kate will likely kill the sales herself without any help from her detractors.

So she is grifting for a birthday cake?

Only if it comes w/free ice cream and a good foot licking.
It looks like Kate and/or NCI is using a low budget online marketing firm called PRWEB for her book. Click through the various tabs to read how they operate, their pricing structure (looks pretty low budget but what do I know), etc.
http://www.prweb.com/releases/2013/3/prweb10573041.htm
http://service.prweb.com/pricing/
(TY to a poster at RWA for the tip)
I wonder if Milo has ordered a b-day cake for Kate? She said her surprise was not coming by mail.
Actually, it's been pretty quiet in Kateland today, surprisingly. Ahhh, but the day is young. In a few hours we'll have her bog to discuss.
I would not be surprised if she is spending six figures to get this kookbook published and marketed. That's what HCI is all about. She had a contract with Zondarvan and they canned the kookbook so I wonder if they had to pay her off.
I pre order from Amazon all the time for download to our Kindles and they do not charge until the book is ready for download. Amazon will initially say it will be charged to your credit card but if you have a gift card in the system at the time of the download they'll use that instead. I always try to keep Amazon gift cards loaded in our account. We've got a $17 balance on our current gift card and I'll be giving my husband a $50 gift card for Easter AND I can just about guarantee that he'll be giving me the same....after 30+ years of marriage we're very predictable in our gifts to each other.
Since she is doing this cookbook thing again I have to reiterate something I stated a long while ago, proving very easily this woman knows nothing about kitchen basics. These instances happened in 2 different Kate plus 8 episodes. I am not a cook and actually really hate to cook, but even I know that these are major cooking faux pas. The first, in the episode called "Kate's World", she was shown cooking and how she cooks all the kids meals while doing DWTS, a lie, but air it on tlc to prove it to be true. Anyway, she dumped a carton of mushrooms into a colander to run under water. Um, Kate, that's not how you clean mushrooms and Sara snow even pointed that out to Kate on the show years prior. Her OCD ruins food! Cooking 101, mushrooms absorb water like a sponge, you can't run them under water, lest you ruin them. Second, on the RV episodes when she was preparing salad, her daily meal, she insisted Jamie slice the lettuce with a knife. Jamie was going to hand tear it, which is correct, but Kate threw a fit and insisted it be knife cut. Cutting it with a knife turns is brown, discolored and causes the lettuce to taste weird. Some chemical reaction with the metal of a knife and the organic greens. When corrected, she was defiant and threw Jamie off the salad prep duty. This is all from a woman who self professes to be an amazing cook and live in the kitchen. Creating all brand new, unique and amazingly tasty dishes.
Lastly, the woman says she can't BAKE and doesn't bake except for her chocolate birthday cake. She can't bake because you need to follow a recipe precisely otherwise it will be very bad. Cooking savory meals are not as precise. Remember cara and Mady taking that cooking class at the age of 7 and Kate baking the chocolate cake at home with the girls on the show. The cake didn't come out. It was under baked and raw in the middle, and it wasn't very chocolate tasting. They commented it was more like a chocolate muffin. How hard is it to follow a recipe designed for a 7 year old?
Does this sound like someone that should be telling others how to cook and/or bake?? Me thinks not.
Her meatloaf recipe... the yeild is 10 slices and she says she has 1/2 a loaf left over. Do the kids not get any? Or do they get 1/2 a slice each? For someone who freezes everything, you'd think she'd double the recipe and freeze the other loaf, like most recipes for meatloaf.
BTW, if you are carb counting and find South Beach recipes boring, go to Kalyn's Kitchen online. She adapts recipes for the three phases and they are very good.
Also, if you like to keep a recipe program on your ipad, a great one is Paprika. It actually has a variety of recipe sites listed (like Allrecipes.com, Food.com, etc) and you can automatically download recipes with pictures directly into Paprika. All you have to do is set up your categories.

I agree. I think Steve was an interloper in J+K's marriage and took advantage of their crumbling marriage. I think he was behind much of the press Kate got.
I also agree that he never seemed to pay attention to the kids. I remember one pic of a little girl tup grabbing his leg, like a child would hug a Daddy, and Steve looked completely disconnected. There's not one photo of him engaged with any of the kids.
I'm betting his experience with the Little Couple is far different from Kate.
I think in the end, whatever star-crossed romance there was between Steve and Kate has run its course, and Steve now joins the long list of people who don't know how to help Kate.

Someone mentioned that Kate's name was mentioned on DWTS and it got boos. What was said about her, please? Just curious.
~~~~~~~~~
What I actually said was this:
"No sign of Kate in the celeb section, but lots of laughter, groans & eye rolls whenever anyone mentioned her name."
On the off-chance you might've thought I was referencing the DWTS staff and crew, I wasn't. The audience members, on the other hand...we had plenty of time to converse with one another, in line and during filming breaks. They were informal conversations, not part of the official DWTS program.
Ok I went to her IJWYTK book and looked at recipes. Decided to do a search for Pizza Meatballs. First one that came up in google, a Taste of Home recipe.
http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/pizza-meatballs
Originally published as Pizza Meatballs in Taste of Home June/July 1996, p37
I compared them. Only a little difference in the recipes, not enough to make it look like something she created hers.
Amount of onion (1/4 vs 1/2 c.) No salt in Kate's, pepper amount (1/4 tsp vs 2 tsps) amt of sauce (which would depend on what brand of course) Cooking time. Some of the sentences in directions are identical! Some written different but say the same thing.
Here's another example of Kate not making sure the recipe was right. It says Combine first six ingred. Those are beef, bread crumbs,milk, onion, pepper, & 1 BLOCK-8oz mozzerella cheese. I wonder how many readers tried this and were confused on why the block of cheese was hard to mix in????? (then next step is to cut cheese into cubes and put in center)
hahaha
Not all people know to read through a recipe before following the steps. (*guilty a couple times*) This book is going to get more interesting once it is actually in print.
I see Kate still has juice with People magazine, so perhaps Kate Coyne didn't get her lips surgically removed from Kate's arse after all.
Haha, so she jumps on at 11:30 at night to deny a story as all lies that she is moving to LA (come on, a family law court probably would never let her do that anyway even if she tried), but she won't deny that she is suing her children's father and wants him thrown in jail.
She'll go to the ends of the earth to defend herself but darned if she'll bother to defend her children's father they love.
How about, she'll go to the ends of the earth to defend herself about not moving to CA but won't say a peep about not abusing her children? We know that she's said nothing about the journal and the abuse entries because they're true but each time she spouts off about other "lies" and rumors it just reinforces the fact that the journal is hers and it is THE TRUTH.
@Berksgrl @kateplusmy8 @miloandjack LOL there are a million variations for every dish! I work with celebrity chefs a lot and see it! Chill!
I image the volumes of breadcrumbs and ground beef makes it rather dry because there was only the eggs to bind it.
________
It really doesn't make it dry. Her meatloaf recipe is one that is common in this area. My recipe has been passed down through the generations, and uses only beef with eggs to bind it (and a little milk)...plus the breadcrumbs (sometimes Quaker Oats), chopped onions, and a small amount of ketchup and dry mustard. It's a juicy, flavorful meatloaf and it's not greasy..
I seriously doubt Kate Coyne had anything to do with People picking up the cookbook ad (which is what it is but concealed as a story). This is strictly HCI sending out PR packages paid for by Kate. They are emailing those puppies out and seeing who will bite. It's a way to fill up space (I used to do a little PR and newspaper).
This was one of the comments on Amazon and I find it very interesting:
Is this typical in the publishing world to have such a gap of time between pre-order and release date? Especially for a cookbook, where the recipes are already written (stolen from other sources) and photography done. How long does it take to publish? Is the book actually printed, or is the publisher waiting to see how many books are ordered before deciding to actually go to print?
The poster has a point. When a book is announced for preorder (novel) it normally means that the author either hasn't finished or is doing the finishing touches on the book. But a cookbook is a different matter. Maybe the publisher really is waiting to see how many copies to print.
Re: Steve and TLC and Kate.
Steve's company works for TLC and has for years (I think he started @ the time J&K first came on the scene) and either he or other security staff has worked with other families. There was a pic of the same big African American man we saw with J&K with Honey Boo Boo's family last year and now Steve's with Jen and Bill. I'm guessing, but I think his firm has probably traveled with other TLC families like the Roloffs and we just have not seen them.
We know Steve's company works for more than just TLC because of Steve traveling with Kate for quite awhile after her contract ended. I think Kate & Steve's 'relationship' crossed the line on Kate's part because of her dependence on him for emotional support rather than just managerial. I think he was way too involved with the G8 and supporting Kate and it took him awhile to remove the tentacles she had wrapped around him so tightly. I don't think they've severed ties though. JMO, of course.
Ally, I think Kate's cooking acumen is quite limited, but you can wash mushrooms because in reality, they absorb a negligible amount of water when washed. I wash whole mushrooms all the time. I don't know who has handled them and I was all produce.
Alton Brown did a good job of debunking this myth:
http://www.goodeatsfanpage.com/Season8/myths/myth_smashers.htm
I think there is something to tearing lettuce vs. cutting. One the one hand, the lettuce might react to the stainless steel knife and cause browning, but on the other hand, cutting with a very sharp knife causes far less cellular damage, thus less browning.
You can buy a plastic lettuce knife or use ceramic, but I just use my Chef knife for chiffonade, otherwise, I both tear and cut for salads. Depends on my mood!
ITA about Steve, but TLC producers also pushed Jon aside. Why did she get to go out to LA for media training and not Jon? And then when she comes back, Jon said she was different (and not in good way). No wonder he grew suspicious that something was up.
Good luck adopting another fur baby, Virginia Pen Mom.
Thanks, Pink. This little terrier/schnauzer mix was on my facebook newsfeed. I just haven't been able to get him off my mind. Apparently, he was adopted from a city pound in August. Now the owners have learned they're very allergic and dropped him at a rescue society. So he thought he had a home, and then lost it again after spending seven months with the new family. The rescue society describes him as a loving but now very sad dog. Breaks my heart. But my husband thinks two dogs are enough. I haven't given up yet....
Funny, I just never thought of a dog being allergic like that before.
________________
Aw...hope your dog will be fine. We had a tiny teacup poodle who loved little bits of leftovers after our dinner. I had some spaghetti with sauce she was begging for, and I gave her a little bit. She gobbled it up. Within an hour or so, her faced swelled up and I rushed her to the vet. He said she was allergic to something either in the pasta or the sauce, and he's seen it happen before with other dogs. You just never know.
Why didn't she get Katherine to help her with her book? Oh that's right. She'd have to share $$ and the name on the cover. She won't do that again after "Multiple Blessings". And she has no friends to try out recipes.
Oh, Celeb Dirty Laundry finally came out with this:
Gosselin is attempting to lure in the unsuspecting to waste their hard-earned money on her book, as she’s busy promoting it on Twitter. Well, if you’re jobless enough to follow Gosselin on Twitter, I say you deserve to buy that book and waste your money.
She tweeted, “Have you heard? #LoveIsInTheMix is avail for preorder.” Love Is In the Mix sounds like a rehashed version of Chicken Soup for the Soul, except much cheesier. Because there are people who follow Gosselin and take her advice, for whatever reason, Gosselin has been re-tweeting messages from her fans all week. One fan even wrote, “Kate, congratulations on the book! I think it will give my mom and I plenty of cooking/bonding time together. We’re both big fans.”
Good luck with that, anonymous Tweeter, you’ll need it. Seriously, who’s planning on buying this, and why would you want to?? Gosselin’s fifteen minutes of fame should have ended years ago, but she’s still managing to hang on because of people like this. Why would you want to a buy a cookbook/child bonding book from a woman who is using her children to stay famous and who makes her living off of selling her life on TV? I highly doubt that’s the kind of advice that would help ANY mother/daughter relationship.
Editor’s Note: If you are looking to Kate Gosselin for child-rearing advice maybe consider either hiring a professional nanny for your kids and a psychiatrist for yourself.
Another cookbook was announced today by a celebrity mom. Gwyneth Paltrow -- love her or hate her -- certainly knows how to do a book announcement on her blog. OMG, Kate's new blog at theStir is posted and it's so over the top full of BS it's nauseating.
For me, these calls are always interesting because any shoot or project we do involves "big dreams" on the part of the production company or publisher -- and hey, I NEVER knock big dreams because I dream bigger than life on a daily basis and then kill myself to achieve them! But when it comes to my EIGHT kids being involved, this is no small feat and my "mom hat" goes on. At my insistence, each one of these shoots has to be attainable, comfortable, and most of all, FUN for my kids. Those are always my top priorities, and if that is achieved, the rest is just gravy. Period
Is she trying to convince herself or everyone else what an ugly person she is to work with?
She is so pretentious and such a fraud. ugh
"They inherently respected that I have done these types of shoots many times and took my lead..."
Yeah, I'll bet she was a real gem to take direction from. It must have been hell for the kids to be in the house with her that day.
OH, and she's including the recipe for no-bake chocolate cookies in the book. I guess no one has ever heard of those or seen the recipe.
LL, I agree. Too much, too early. IF this book actually makes it to bookstores, she's going to need the push closer to publication time, not now.
This kind of gives a basic explanation of why what really matters in publishing is pre-orders, and why K8 is hyper about it. At work we pay little attention to pre-orders unless the publication is from a well-known popular author, because otherwise it's strictly marketing and a sales push.
So here's the skinny on that (I think): Take a traditional recipe, swap out a few ingredients, and call it your own. Bizarre as those combinations might seem to us, I think that's Kate's way of "inventing" new recipes.
====
Yes, the concept of tweaking a recipe and making it your own escapes her. I don't think she has a clue about food combination. Snow peas in a cacciatore is just...so...wrong. What's worse is she takes photos of her science experiments gone awry and brags about them. It frightens me a little bit.
Having said that, I read a recipe yesterday called Cheesy Ham and Banana casserole that turned my stomach. It was layers of banana and ham, milk and cream soaked bread, topped with potato chips and cheese. The word GROSS came to mind immediately. The recipe was Paul Deen's btw. I guess if you're rich and famous and own an oven, you can throw dog food into the mix and call it a recipe.
Just look at the (marital) spat Kate and Steve had at the RV park. She was barking orders at him like she did with Jon.
Oh Kate, Kate.... do you think all of the J+K+8 footage just went POOF! and disappeared?
How much fun were the kids having when they had to don sweaters in August for an exhaustive photo shoot for Thanksgiving? Cara looked like she was having a blast, rebelling in the only way she could by not smiling for one shot.
So full of BS with this revisionist history.
"I've given up trying to count how many times they've asked me for my recipes so they can 'cook them for our kids someday!' How cute is that?"
Oh, please. What 9- and 13-year-olds say shit like that? And since Kate (as usual) was in charge that day, she has no one to blame but herself for the crappy cover.
Since when are fish amphibians? You know, those two Beta fish she has graciously allowed inside the house?
Oh yeah I can see the standpede now to buy this. Well as a working mom I'm sure Kate has to be able to "work" because for her and her kids you can never have enough money.
Aren't most of her meals last-minute thrown together casseroles covered in cheese (ahem, organic cheese?)
Well. Maybe she'll get lucky because it's her birthday maybe we should be nice to her. No, no wait the kids have that covered as I'm sure it'll be another "thank you thank you," day in her book.
Love? In the mix? Gee, my guess is it's probably buried under all that "organic" canned bits.
OMG. I cannot believe The Stir allowed her to hawk her kookbook in a blog about a photo shoot. She is desparate to get the word out, that's for sure. I predict the comments at The Stir will be even more brutal.
Of course, it's a picture book.
I'm confused about the pre-order process. Is there a target number that needs to be reached before the "publisher" will print the book, or doesn't it matter, and an x-number is already set to go regardless if the number who order is very low?
Love this comment:
Gone are the days of "stressed out mom" syndrome. Now I keep the stress inside and focus on plain old fun! Funny what some age and experience can do to a mom, huh? So the revisionist is at it again. You must be very nervous about "another" book coming out very soon. Those days are gone? Is this how you will justify your abuse? You should have begged for help, guidance, counseling back in "those days". I guess you're over it now eh? Why don't you ask your kids in about 10-15 years if they are "over" those days? Will you say it never happened? You are a con, a fake, a manufactured product that NOBODY is interested in.
I've never seen kids fawn over their mother as much as these kids reportedly do. Do you mean to tell me that the boys are asking too? That's nuts.
A few quotes from Kate's bog:
"very early on, the kids realized that ALL pictures involved food ... them EATING food for nearly every picture ... and by food, I mean desserts and sweets! That great news spread through my house like wild fire..."
Is this excitement over food caused by deprivation or is this another Kate falsehood?
"Dinner? No we are still really full from eating all day!" What?! When do MY kids ever say that? They are always ready to eat. Always! That was too funny."
Funny? I raised three kids and they did say that once in awhile. Snacking on holiday treats, sharing pizza at a friends house etc. You damn betcha her kids are always ready to eat because they don't get enough to eat, that is painfully obvious. Kate, you can try to revise history and lie about the present but we have long memories and will not forgive or forget. You are beyond redemption.
They certainly looked fun and happy on that fishing boat excursion! She needs to shut up, once and for all. There's documentation proving that these little "love my kids...fun, fun, fun" comments are not true.
OK so the kids are grabbing at raw cookie dough!!!! As Kate said "Salmonilla". I just think back to when she freaked on the kids for eating the fruit meant for the stars & stripes cake. In this picture she is just smiling away. Would have been cuter if she had put some personality in it with humor--maybe pretending to whack their little hands with the spoon.
That night at dinner, when I told my kids about the upcoming picture day, they were excited -- and very supportive.
Okay, based on your experience. I pointed out the measurements because recipe says to use between 1 1/2 to 2 CUPS of breadcrumbs. That's alot! It's bread so it is going to extract alot of the moisture from the vegetables, eggs and beef 'juice'. I usually use around 2 pounds of meat and I use about 1/2 to 1 cup breadcrumbs, depending on how wet the mixture gets before you put it in the pan. The more you use, the more dense it gets, in my experience.
I propose someone to try Kate's recipe to verify it is actually edible (snark) :)
