Many viewers may not have made the connection, but financial reporter Melissa Francis, who has been seen on both CNBC and Fox News for years, was once a famous child actor who starred on Little House on the Prairie and several other well-known shows and movies, including the groundbreaking movie of the week about sexual abuse, Something About Amelia.
Jason Bateman (pitter-patter!) and Missy with Michael Landon
in their roles as orphans that made them household names.
|
In her frank memoirs, Diary of a Stage Mother's Daughter, Melissa chronicles her life to date piece by painful piece. Her older sister Tiffany was also a child actor, and Missy got her start as a baby just by good (or bad?) luck when a casting director noticed her at one of Tiffany's auditions. Missy's talent at her young age (she could cry convincing tears at the drop of a hat) quickly led to bigger and better roles, until finally landing the part of Cassandra on Little House in the show's twilight years. What followed was a brief few seasons that would make her a great deal of money, provide spectacular adventures (Michael Landon once flew her and Jason Bateman by private jet to the set) and bestow her with a fame she could never shake.
Melissa eventually decided she wanted to leave acting behind and headed for Harvard and eventually reporting. As Melissa struggles to have a normal life and relationship all while trying to make sense of her bizarre mother and unusual childhood, the story eventually leads to a horrific loss, and a cathartic estrangement.
Not only is Stage Mother a portrait of a dysfunctional childhood in the public eye, it is also one child's story of a mentally ill mother. Her story will not only resonate with famous kids, but with anyone who ever had to live among mental illness.
The following are some important highlights from Stage Mother:
"I had made the mistake of speaking up during one of Mom's stories before and learned that no one but Mom was allowed to talk. Afterward, when we'd gotten in the car, she'd pinched my arm ferociously and said, 'You are never to contradict me in front of another adult ever again. Do you understand me?' The pain shooting through my arm confirmed how serious she was."
"At first, I enjoyed the novelty of being recognized by strangers. Then the attention made me terribly self-conscious. I started to hide my face or turn away when a stranger started to recognize me. If they got up the nerve to ask, 'Are you Cassandra from Little House on the Prairie?' I liked to say no. But I felt guilty when I did this because I knew I was being rude ... all the attention was just too much even though I had recently turned nine years old. I was still a kid, and it was an invasion.
"Little House on the Prairie had been out of the primetime lineup for almost three years, but the fervor around the show had yet to die down. It still ran every day in reruns ... You could always tell when they'd gotten to my years, because more people would stop me on the street than usual."
"'Are you asking if I spend my free time driving her to interviews and sitting on the set all day while she works and becomes a star and I'm not paid a dime? Do I deal with her agent and contracts, buy her clothes and pay for her haircuts so she can work and have a successful career? Am I the only one protecting her on the set, and looking out for her interests, all for free? Do I do these things for her while people call me names and treat me like a hanger-on while I'm on the set? And she becomes rich and famous? If that's what you mean by a Stage Mother, then yes, I am that.'"
"I'd realized by now that Mom was controlling every dime that came in .... and doled it out as if it were hers. I'd seen her write checks out of the account that was supposed to be my trust fund."
"'You just need to keep [Mom] happy. It's the only way to survive.'"
"'Have you noticed that Mom has never had a job in your lifetime?' he cracked ....'Yes, in fact, I have noticed that. She always said she would scrub floors to take care of us if need be, but I don't think I ever saw her clean a floor, or much of anything else, the whole time I was growing up.' .... Dad laughed too, welcoming a break in the continuing flow of bad news. 'Right, well, to be fair, she drove you to all those auditions .... She's not qualified to do anything now. She didn't go to college. Who would hire her?' .... 'So she can't work as a receptionist at a doctor's office? She can't work in retail? She can't work at Nordstroms? She can't file at some office? I don't buy it.... I've worked my whole entire life .... From day one. In commercials, at restaurants. I worked in the kitchen at my dorm when she said she wouldn't give me money so I could be a summer intern for the Today show .... I have never not worked. In my whole, entire life.'"
"The endlessness of my love for my son was matched only by the enormity of the love I later felt for his little brother when he arrived. Those boys make it impossible for me to understand my mother."

«Oldest ‹Older 401 – 500 of 500 Newer› Newest»I saw the picture you guys have been commenting on. It resembles her but the haircut is different. Frankly, I once saw a woman in the Atlanta airport who could have been Kate's twin. I did a double take but it wasn't her.
Sure, it could be a picture of her in the background and she's not tweeting, ergo she is traveling. It seems to me, though, she'd have Steve take some photos and submit to the tabloids. You know I feel like so many women these days for some reason find that orange tan, plastic looking French tip nails and pin-straight barbie blond hair attractive that there's quite a few out there getting mistaken for Kate. It's possible.
As Kate would say, I don't get it. Whatever happened to natural colors if you must dye your hair, natural skin tone whatever yours may be, and neatly filed nails not too long with maybe a little clear polish? I'll never understand why the manufactured look is attractive.
However she's still on twitter silence.

Joy, I am going to the Redskins-SF game. This will be my first skins game ever. Any tips?
Admin, only advice I have is to get to FedEx Field early. Traffic on the way there can be a bear. Bring sandwiches, sodas to tailgate in the parking lot before the game. And that time of year it can bee pleasant temp or very cold, wear layers and bring blankets if weather is really cold. Have fun!
Thx Joy. It's going to be a night game too, BRRRR!!! Bust out the winter gear. I would have preferred a game earlier in the season, but I can't change when a special Redskins fan's birthday is lol.
I can't believe kate had the gall and the audacity to even ask the state to extend the state nurse's pay for a year because the babies were helpless and couldn't even get themselves a drink of water.
Then she turns down many free volunteers to help her!
Then she asks for 25,000 dollars in donations to pay for a nurse when the babies don't have any medical issues.
She just wanted a free RN to be there to take care of the babies.
I guess the free volunteers were too "mediocre".
Did kate have the state nurse under a non disclosure contract?
Milo's tweets are over the top, again. Wow.
I want to clarify my comments last night regarding the home makeover in 2004. I have not seen any home pictures, so I don't know if it was unlivable. I did see a picture of the nursery, and it was cute. Not bright, very appropriate. In 2005, that nursery looked nothing like what was created for them. Additionally, regarding Jon's employment, they were both out of work for most of 2004. Jon was "let go" from that Leesport job, per Kate, because the employer didn't want to cover all his kids on their insurance plan. We all new that was bs, but still, no job. She quit her job in 2003, rather than filing for medical leave. So they both were out of work before the birth and then after. I think his new job in Harrisburg came in 2005, per articles I read. They even sent out a notice to all friends, family and neighbors to pay their electric bill. They had their account number in it. So, my question was how does someone who can't afford to pay their electric bill, redecorate a nursery? All I was trying to point out was their grafting, lying and soliciting, before discovery ever set foot near them.
I meant grifting, not grafting. My iPad does not let me go back an edit after I write it out. Ugh.
On MSN news this morning was a story about a limo driving on the San Mateo Bridge in the Bay that caught on fire last night about 10 o'clock last night.
By the time the driver got the car stopped 5 people and the driver got out, but they were hurt, but 5 women died in the car.
My prayers out to the families.
You just never know. Things happen in an nanosecond that will change your life forever.
Thx, Kate is a Twit. She really doesn't rate anymore or she did not attend the Derby. She's somewhere, though, because she's on Twitter silence.
My first thought when I heard that D might be staying with the kids is oh no, another gig on CWS. Then I thought maybe she's filming on her own. The great organizer to the rescue, twist of Kate, can do Kate. Anything like that would fit right in to her mysterious tweet.
Ally - It is a PITA to edit when using the touch screen on the iPad! I found that I have to drop the keyboard down, click behind the word I want to edit and then delete and re type it. PITA! I'm thinking about getting a keyboard for it to see if that helps.
Better late than never, but congrats to Lukebandit on the new baby and on your son's achievement.
Kate on Twitter silence is really how it should be (sorry Milo). She brings nothing of substance to the table, her thoughts are juvenile and pedestrian, and unlike most people you know who use FB and Twitter to keep in touch with real life family and friends, Kate has only a gaggle of internet strangers with whom she communicates. Once a week she produces a meaningless, poorly written blog piece. Whether she went to Kentucky or is at home sans kids, Twitter silence is the best place for her.
Admin 200 - Charlie pays a large sum of child support to Brooke which I'm assuming would go to the state now? Wouldn't they simply pass that amount over to Denise while she's caring for the kids? Not sure how these things work in celebrity cases.
It's her continuing lack of grace that is her worst enemy. The sheeple (although slow to realize and see) will eventually catch on, and that will be the final nail. People will forgive alot (and both she and Jon have so very much to be forgiven for), but Kate's inability to feign grace will do her in once and for all. It will also estrange her from at least half of her children in the future.
So, my question was how does someone who can't afford to pay their electric bill, redecorate a nursery?

Why did it have to be "redecorated?" There are countless parents who bring home a new baby or babies and their nurseries consist of the basics -- a crib, changing table, dresser, rocking chair, etc. They survive just fine without paintings on the wall or a crew coming in there to do it for them. If they couldn't pay their electric bill, then redecorating a nursery shouldn't be their first priority. You make do with what you have.
Perhaps before Home Delivery went in there and decorated the house they should have at least asked what the couple preferred, rather than just have Carte Blanche on the decorating. Not everyone's decorating style is the same. People have different tastes in decor. If they were going to do all of that work, regardless if it was all at their own expense, they could have at least asked about the couple's preferences.
Of course they grifted before TLC got their hands on them. This was common knowledge at the time. They wanted everything handed to them. Kate appealed to the state for an additional year of care for the children. The answer was "no," and this was one time her whining and grifting didn't pay off for her. When the late Catherine Baker Knoll declared the babies the "state's treasures," it set the wheels in motion. Kate figured that she'd milk the communities and volunteers for all they would hand out to them, and for a while, it worked. Then people got wise.

Let's face it, Kate is a has been. NOBODY is really interested. She pimps her recent cookbook, with kids' pictures (as she knows no one gives a crap about her but still somehow manages to go to the Kentucky Derby. Quite frankly, who cares if she went?
She is a "has been" user of her kids, and if she went, not/barely photographed, just proves the point.
As she continues to use portions of the money the kids earned (they were filmed with her consent from day one)for her personal travel, etc.. she should account for this spending as she is not working. I know people will not like this, but Jon needs to KNOW exactly what part of the mega monies have been set aside for his kids while they were filmed. Or photos them used in a cookbook. It IS his responsibility as a parent.
Kate is history and has been unemployed with little viable income. Other than CWS, when the kids were required to be filmed, monies from CWS should be split 9 ways.
Kate- Get a job by yourself! Stop using the kids on CWS and even in your cookbook.
No one cares what you do, but leave your kids off twitter, your blogs, CWS etc.. as they have more than earned their right to privacy. Where does it end after 9 years in regard to the 8 Count 'em 8 kids' privacy? Do whatever on your own. No one cares.
Kate, how would YOU feel if you parents had blogged/twittered and went on TV shows to talk about you as a kid, without YOUR permission in order to make a buck? Seriously.
NINE YEARS LATER AND SHE STILL HAS NOT FIGURED OUT HOW TO MAKE A LIVING WITHOUT USING HER KIDS.
Pretty twisted.
Why did it have to be "redecorated?" &&&
Exactly. I think a lot of people got tired of the entitlements. Lots of parents make due with what they have and do just fine.
Friends of mine just had a baby and they just teach yoga, they don't make very much money but they love it. They ordered little 8 by 10 cardstock posters and made sort of a collage on the wall as decoration. It actually looks REALLY GOOD. The posters are various things little girls would be into, a ballerina, pretty flowers, a starry sky, with a dash of odd things mixed in like a UFO--cause they're quirky like that :)
The room is not traditional but looks classy and cool and reflects their personality. I think she's going to adore it. She'll be the "cool" kid whose parents let her have a UFO poster on the wall.
Anyway the point being, I'm not sure why Kate thinks she deserves anything more than any other couple gets. Figure out your budget, put your heads together, and come up with something. You don't need to make over the room. If you can, great, but it's not a necessity. I never got any sense of embarrassment from either of them at all the free stuff. Never any sense of gosh gee this really is too much you really shouldn't have. Never. If anything it was just complaints.
I know people will not like this, but Jon needs to KNOW exactly what part of the mega monies have been set aside for his kids while they were filmed. Or photos them used in a cookbook. It IS his responsibility as a parent.

To the anonymous poster who keeps posting solely to insult the individuals on this blog or the blog in general, I'm asking you to please stop. I will never publish your comments, and all you're doing is creating more work for me. Food for thought, I don't see anything more hypocritical than you taking issue with the folks here following Kate's ridiculous antics, since clearly you follow us just as closely as you complain this blog follows Kate. But at least Kate is a celeb and a celeb site is nothing unusual on the internet.
Admin 200 - Charlie pays a large sum of child support to Brooke which I'm assuming would go to the state now? Wouldn't they simply pass that amount over to Denise while she's caring for the kids? Not sure how these things work in celebrity cases.
&&&
Nope, not exactly. He still has to pay his child support and mom will still get it. He has to go down to the child support division and explain he no longer has custody to stop it. Denise doesn't get a dime of it.
Denise gets her payments through ASFA, which doesn't start paying until that's approved, which usually takes months. Then, ASFA has to go after Charlie Sheen for the money. The max I've ever heard ASFA payments being was $5,000, and that was for a VERY disabled child, 24/hour care, the works, and they needed $5000. For healthy normal kids it's only going to be about 500 bucks.
ASFA and child support are calculated completely differently and are two separate entities. I like ASFA better, because it's based more on the child's actual needs and harder for somebody to screw over a parent who happens to have a lot of money.
Charlie is welcome to give her cash directly, but I doubt he'd be okay with that being spent on anything but the children's needs. I still don't see that she stands to make money off this deal. Taking in kids in the system is not a get rich quick scheme or everyone would do it.
Money and greed? How so? How does she get "money" for taking in the kids?
The answer is Charlie Sheen. Like I said: Charlie pays good money for nannies.
Charlie admitted he gave Lindsay Lohan a cool $100,000 to help her with her taxes. That's chump change for him.
Of COURSE he gives Denise money.
So your theory is Charlie Sheen is paying Denise Richards big bucks to take in his kids? Is there any proof of that? Isn't the point being that the kids are in a safe place, and Denise Richards is DCFS approved? Not everything is a conspiracy. She could make better money doing a lot of other things.
If she wanted child support why doesn't she just go after him for child support directly for HER BIO kids? Plus, it's the JUDGE who decides where the kids will go, and the second real mom tests clean a few times they'll go back to her and Denise's alleged "money train" will stop. Denise cannot stop the judge from giving the kids back at any time.
Respectfully, what you're saying really sounds like the LONG WAY around to make money off the situation. Maybe so, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Melissa NV 25
It could very well be that he does know. Nobody but those who are involved should have access to that information, and he's being silent, as he should.
--------
I agree, my point being that every time she uses her kids to film, blog, twitter, Jon needs to be aware, as the 8 are part of her earnings, as far a I am concerned. Kids' earnings should be set aside.
9 years later, and she is still using them for income.
Didn't Denise Richards have the boys awhile back for a few days when Brooke was incapable of taking care of them? (Not court ordered.) I don't think Denise is doing this to get rich. She gets substantial child support and I think she truly cares about children. She is also quite good and caring with her dad.
Brooke Mueller's two boys are half-siblings to Denise Richard's two daughters. Seems perfectly reasonable that Denise would step in to help if needed. I just don't understand why it has to be announced. Don't these little boys deserve privacy?
I have never been a big Denise Richards fan, dating back to her putting her children out there in the reality tv world, short lived as it was, BUT if she is willing to take on fostering her daughters' half-sibs, essentially keeping them with family, then kudos to her. It is not about money or nannies, both of which she clearly has, but more about having a safe and nurturing environment for these children right now. Good for her.
And no matter where KG was or was not this weekend, I only hope her children were with their father, and the tups were able to celebrate an early birthday with him. Twitter silence from her usually = no kids.
It wasn't announced. A "source" leaked it. Charlie Sheen is a pretty hot story right now, there's too many people out there who will leak it. Plus when he comes to court Monday (they have 72 hours to bring him to court) he's going to see hundreds of people. There's no hiding it. And other than it coming out there is a case, they will have privacy, such cases are highly confidential. Courtrooms are always cleared for celebrity children so even if a random clerk comes by to drop something off they won't be allowed in. Not only is it perfectly reasonable to place with her, but under California law they are required to exhaust all friends and relatives before resorting to foster care. Half siblings are the first place they look next to grandparents.
If they DIDN'T place with Denise, you can bet the children for the kids and the judge are going to be breathing down child protective service's neck asking why the heck they DIDN'T place with their half siblings and someone the children know. If she is perfectly appropriate, some judges will even sanction for not looking into it. Money or not, there's no NOT placing with her unless of course she declined.

Save for their new master bedroom, that house makeover was hideous, in my opinion. If Kate shopped that show it served her right to have to live in it, but I'm sure she bellyached about it until she got a new house.

lol, Auntie! They weren't thinking! I wouldn't want my babies to wake up looking at that thing! All they needed was "Chucky" next to Humpty! This was one time I agreed with Kate, and I hope Jon wiped out that mess as soon as he could! Remember the twins' bedroom? It was supposed to be a princess bedroom but looked more like a castle dungeon gone bad.
The master bedroom was okay -- I could have lived with that.
I could still be proven wrong, of course, but I think my instincts might've been right about Kate not being at the Derby.

Also Milo and Deanna's tweets that indicate Deanna WAS babysitting this weekend. Very mysterious
Oh and Milo tweeted to Kate she hoped she was having fun and needed a break...or something like that. Making it seem like Milo knew she was up to something.
Milo hasn't been pestering her where she is, which is what she would usually do if she didn't know.
Forgot one other thing--Milo's tweet justifying the absolutely pathetic lack of interest by saying Kate likes to fly under the radar. HAHAH.
LOL, poor misguided Milo.
Speculation's fun, and I'm not entirely convinced my instincts were spot-on. Pictures might show up, Derby sightings could get mentioned in one of the tabloids... I might be eating my ostrich feathered hat tomorrow morning, who knows? ;)
It's also possible Milo doesn't know anything more than we do but has the same speculations and is taking preemptive action to set this up as Mama needs a break! just in case it comes out and she needs to go into defensive mode.
Here are some articles regarding the renovation if anyone is interested. I can't seem to find the actual pictures (they were around at one point online), but I have to agree, Humpty Dumpty was pretty scary. Overall, I have to agree with Kate, the interior decoration was pretty bad.

You know what this weekend was? A taste of what it could be like if Kate would just do what Jon did and GO AWAY.

But if she did she would let Milo and her 6-7 die hard fans down.
And the haters would win and we all know that ain't gonna happen.
OT we saw Iron Man 3 this weekend, very FUN movie, with everything you expect from Marvel Comics story/movie, and Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow. Explosions! Wisecracks! Stan Lee cameo! More Explosions! More Wisecracks! Bad Guys! Bad Gals! Humor! Very neat twist on villains! Amazing stunts! Amazing Special Effects! Very funny scene after the credits, be sure to stay and see it.
I liked this one better than Iron Man Two. Its a fun early start to summer movie season.
Next week, Great Gatsby in 3-D directed by Baz Luhrman with Leonardo! Yaaaa!
I fear that Kate is off taping some reality show that she is part of.
I bet anything she will tweet when she gets back that she is so behind in planning her "littles" birthday party. Duh, maybe if she would have been home she would have had time to do so. And I think her party will be mediocre unless it is filmed. Yikes!
Kate will never gave up being TV and getting a big TV paycheck. She will forever be one of these people who show up on every reality show they are accepted to.

I've figured out where Kate was this weekend!
I'll bet Steve had to work security for Mama June and Sugar Bear's wedding and Kate went along as his 'Plus 1'. HA!

I laughed yesterday watching the Sunday Morning show. A satirical piece was done on how these "celebs" can make an entire career out of "Celebrity XYZ" shows. There are countless shows that troll the depths for any has been that is willing to do anything for a buck.
The point was, you'll NEVER see Angelina Jolie, George Clooney or Julia Roberts on these "celeb" shows, when they are truly celebrities, and people like Kate are merely famous for being famous.
I am quite sure that Jon could do this and I give him credit for eschewing this as a "career" path.
Unfortunately, Kate's silence will be short lived. She hinted about a surprise for her devoted fans and it appears something is indeed in the works. I am now convinced she was not at the derby. I believe the tweeter was mistaken and just saw someone who resembled Kate.
I cannot imagine who would be interested in her, but she did get the CWS gig, so I guess she is still capturing someone's attention. The only thing I can be sure about is wherever she is, Steve is there too.
Didn't someone say that they inferred from a Deanna tweet that she was babysitting the kids? I don't get that. This woman is supposed to have a busy career, but she babysits?
Well, if she's back in LA this confirms in my mind that Naughty but Nice Rob was correct that she wants to move there. The obstacle: Jon.

My apologies for my earlier post about Kate going to Mama June's wedding as Steve's guest. I just had a thought that it might be taken as an insider story - which it definitely wasn't -- it was meant as a joke. Again, I apologize.
Tonight is Dancin With Them Thar Stars! If Ms Kreider paid her own way to LA, she could get in to be in the audience. Former contestants in the audience get maybe five seconds on camera, we will see if she is there.
I wanted to share a comment made by someone on an article from several years ago. No idea if it's totally accurate, but take what you want from it.
" My husband and I were guests at Kate and Jon's wedding that took place last summer. I know it was on television recently, And I just wanted to clear up a few things. Prior to this event we never met Kate or Jon or any of their children but being that they are family we felt a special kinship towards them. A couple of months before the event we received a mailed invitation which also included a separate print out of appropriate gifts to give. I personally did not feel that was a very loving thing to do but I understand this is something brides to sometimes to avoid receiving duplicate gifts. Please keep in mind that we like many native islanders are living on a fixed income and don't have the necessary funds for such extravagances. There were many scenes from the wedding that were not televised. Many of the women went up to Kate and we did try to embrace her and congratulate her. Instead of smiling and accepting us we were shunned. We also tried to show Jon a native dance however we were told by a member of the staff that put their special together that it was not a good idea. We had hoped to keep in touch with Jon and his wife and children however we have not heard from them since they left the island. We do appreciate that they thought of us and invited us to the ceremony and we also thank the hotel staff who were very kind to us. One of the banquet ladies came to my table and spoke to us many times just to make small talk which was sweet."
Whether it is totally true or not is only known between Kate and her guests. However, based on what we know, it sounds pretty accurate to me.
I don't care if Kate is filming another RTV show, as long as the kids aren't being used to make a buck (isn't that what we've always said? why the stressing out about it if the kids are left alone??). Kate has the type of RTV "cred" that will ensure that she will be fodder for stupid shows like "I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!" for years to come.
Let's face it, this is her chosen career path. I don't think she's got what it takes to rise above these embarrassing debacles and host shows like The View. This is the lowest rung on the media persona ladder that she actually fits. That is to say, she has no particular talent (aside from her uber uterus), but is willing to put herself out there for the hating if it draws eyes to the show, and $$ for her.
This is still a viable industry and option for Kate, and while I don't watch this crap, plenty of people do.
Now that Murt's law has been enacted, I think we'll see little to no filming of the kids' lives in PA. Kate got CWS in right under the wire, but the game in PA has changed, which bodes well for the kids.
Kate has made in clear; she wants to be present with her kids half the time and that's just the way it is. For the kids, I feel badly, but this is as good as it gets for them. Kate will not be the type of mom that wants to treasure every moment that she can, but every moment that she's willing to.
Most moms can't connect to that, as it would take wild horses to drag them away. For Kate, it's anything that involves getting away with Steve will do.
MJ, the thought of Ms Kreider at Mama June s wedding is hilarious! Maybe Mama June can teach Ms Kreider some new recipes like her special 'sketti!!

I find this very difficult to accept, and yet it's a reality for many narcissists. Like anything else, kids are there for what they can do for you--be it a photoshoot, an interview about how wonderful family life is, putting them on a T.V. show, taking them to some public event for a photo op. Otherwise, they are an afterthought or no thought at all.
MJ hysterical. And I knew you were joking! :)

Sounds real to me. No agenda and restrained.
Unbelievable that J+K asked for gifts with a list of what they'd accept. Sounds like it was a $$ list too. Just of the charts greedy.
I totally believe it was staged, produced, scripted to a degree and completely and utterly fake.
What on earth would J+K need from family that is barely known and not even in the same tax bracket as them? Nothing, that's what. And for a vow renewal? That's totally about the couple's commitment and love, not about needing a toaster, silverware or fine china after 9 years (what an odd anniversary to choose to renew), particularly for multi-millionaires.
Kate sounds like the cold fish we all know her to be. I wonder if this lady met Kate and liked her, as Kate says EVERYONE does.
I believe it too, there was no sense of an agenda or hatred there, just a family member quietly disappointed.
Knowing the marriage was over, they had some nerve asking for gifts.
Plus, this lovely woman who was invited to J+K's fows (fake vows) was just invited for the story line, which featured Jon reuniting with family. She had no value other than scenery and to fill seats at the fows renewal.
I'm guessing she's one of the very few people to be involved even if peripherally, that didn't have to sign a NDA.
Even if she did sign a confidentiality agreement, she's anonymous. They would have no way of knowing who said that. What are they going to do, sue everyone there? There were dozens of people there.
I remember how awkward and uncomfortable the relatives looked at the event. The whole thing was very off.
Knowing the marriage was over, they had some nerve asking for gifts.

Kate filming another RTV show? Meh. Kate and Jon anticipating gifts from anyone while on this all expense paid vacation/fowl renewal? Disgusting, even though years ago, disgusting and it gets my ire up.

Yes agree. I never objected to anything she wants to do to embarrass herself as long as it doesn't *hurt* other people.
Asking for gifts from hard working people knowing it's all a sham is wrong. Filming your kids so much is wrong. Coming to some charity event for two children killed armed with photos and books about your kids is wrong. She does so little that doesn't invoke harming others.
The gift thing was beyond rude, tacky and classless. But when this family member said she went to congratulate Kate and was shunned by her, I just about lost it. Only a true narcissist or sociopath could behave like that to family you have never met nor will ever again.
My heart went out to that family member. Also, WTF could Kate need in a "wedding" gift? This is a vow renewal, although fake, NOT a wedding. It wasn't even their anniversary. It was a random date.
Gross!

Here are some articles regarding the renovation if anyone is interested. I can't seem to find the actual pictures (they were around at one point online), but I have to agree, Humpty Dumpty was pretty scary. Overall, I have to agree with Kate, the interior decoration was pretty bad.

Found them!! Click on one of the pictures to enlarge them, and you can see a slide show.

Whoa....some of the makeover rooms are HIDEOUS. I do NOT remember this! The twins room looks like some cheap porn set with all the luscious red fabrics. The wall decorations and murals look cheap.
Their heart was in the right place and if you're going to take a freebie you shouldn't complain....but I can't disagree it was bad.
You really can't go wrong with simple for little ones. White walls, one or two decorations, light fabrics.
The way Kate treated the Hawaiian relatives is exactly how she treats people that she thinks she is better than, and people who have nothing to offer her, financially or materially, anymore. Remember, she will be nice to you ONLY if she needs something from you ( ie: you are able to advance her financially). Or if you arrive with pre approved gifts in tow. Although, remember in Roberts book how she was ANGRY when she found out the surprise Jen ( producer) had for her was only a $750.00 gift card. The nerve!

There are SEVEN post it notes tacked to the bathroom mirror. You can't even see yourself!
What could possibly warrant that many orders? What is it, instructions for how to properly wipe yourself to Kate's specifications?
She really is a sociopath who needs help and has been for a long time.
Pardon ME, I miscounted the sticky notes.
Two more small ones at the bottom. NINE post it notes on the bathroom mirror.
PSYCHO.
LOL, she was there! #stealth #shunned

Improbable you have some eating to do!
HA, so she went there and NO ONE CARED.
Wow, the goose is finally cooked, today, May 6.
Kate just tweeted a picture of herself at the Kentucky Derby.

Yet another FUN Derby weekend... http://t.co/2NsmD9bs6I
So I guess she was there. How sad for her that no one took her picture, except Steve.
We're too good. We KNEW IT.
People, she does not go on twitter silence for nothing. She was enjoying her VIP self with Steve on her arm. Fans be damned, she was having the time of her life and didn't need to bother with them.
LOL, I've got ostrich feathers all over my keyboard.
Someone pass Improbable the ketchup. I did a post on it.
Notice how she is holding the program that says Kentucky Derby 139 to prove that she was there and that it wasn't an old picture.
She's surrounded by "mediocrity." Not that it matters--everyone's ignoring her.
We called this yesterday. She lowers the caliber of events. Real celebs don't want most reality stars around, especially ex reality stars, even worse. Even the media doesn't necessarily want to take photos of has been stars at events because it could lower the price of OTHER photos if the event looks less A list than it is.
If you want to be seen as an A lister showing up at the Kentucky Derby, you don't want to be seen in photos or brushing elbows with some ex reality star. People are too afraid that will make them see D list too. I'm almost embarrassed for her. Almost.
Yes, we are good. Too bad for K8 no one with a camera cared to take her picture and print it anytime this weekend, she is such a celebrity. Not. Hooker shoes, check. Long straw hair, check. Paid companion, check. Ho-hum. In my book better a Derby weekend then off filming a Z list reality show. In KY she is just a face in the crowd. I will say I think her skirt length was, for her, oddly appropriate.
And oh yes, the balls to send a gift suggestion list to a faux vow renewal being filmed for a tv reality show, to virtual strangers. Those two really thought they were something special back in the day.
Excuse me but...
Holly hell WTH happen to Kate?
http://img.ly/uBqC
I knew the lady that looked like KK wasn't her. Cause she looked to good to be KK.
Sorry if that was mean but I had a Jim Carrey moment.
Looks like Kate was in the stands with the rest of the hoi polloi. No red carpets?
Well kids, I hope there's some money left for you when you're 18.
Hey! I pulled weeds, planted and landscaped all weekend! What do I get???

Foreshadowing much?

Bad hair day. I'll give her that, given the wet, soggy weather that day. Nice outfit, but bad lighting and camera.
Now let the sheeple justify Kate spending funds on a getaway weekend to the Derby, and how she SO deserves it, and how every Mommy does this, dontcha know!
Please are these two questions true? I haven't been reading all the posts and I have to go to the dentist.
Is it true that NO PICTURES of Kate were taken at the Derby except the photo above that Steve took of her? And Kate's name was not to be found anywhere in connection to the Derby? If that is true, than hold cow, Kate really, really is over. She must be devastated and embarrassed. FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(those for you Kate, The Loser)
Leslie
Orange Crusher you just answered my questions, thanks! Leslie
You know maybe The Little Couple on TLC that Steve was helping gifted 2 tickets to Steve. OR maybe TLC gifted them to him. Wouldn't that hurt Kate, if Steve received tickets from her old employee TLC.
I bet Kate stood on the sidelines. She is unsociable and truly shy. And I bet she will make it a 4 day holiday for herself. Does anyone else remember how many days she went for last time?
Leslie
I speak for the city of Louisville and the Commonwealth of Kentucky when I ask "WHO was here?
We didn't notice."
Fido, I believe your state has the distinct honor of being the first to give Kate the royal cold shoulder. It was raining but the sun shines bright!!
