Just musing, I wonder if the CA legislation was enacted after the OJ murder case. There was a huge history of police calls to the OJ house, but no arrest for DV until the murder, I think. I'll have to look it up. And OJ was as guilty as hell.
I totally agree with you that education and prevention is the priority. Unfortunately, the is a huge amount of recidivism even after batterers intervention programs. We have to make them better. It really is a huge and difficult problem.

You know what I find really funny. The NY Post article about Ed Hardy blaming Jon for ruining his brand has been picked up by many media outlets. It's been on msn.com, yahoo, Huff Post, Today.com, etc. Not just ROL.
Most of the comments on those blame Christian and the brand, not Jon. Jon's getting more press coverage than Kate!!

I absolutely agree! How can you be expected to operate in situations beyond your own circumstances, without first obtaining direct, firsthand and ongoing experiences with people who see and interact with the world differently than you do? Absent this depth and breadth of knowledge, the learning curve would be staggering. To my mind, "socialization and exposure" are fundamental job requirements for anyone wanting to lay claim to an authoritative position in the public sector.
So in 14 mos. or so, when Josh and Anna are ready to deliver their next baby, will the Duggars all jump in the bus and travel to DC to assist with the birth, or will Josh drive Anna back to Arkansas?
I'm not biased in favor of a college degree, and agree that over time experience can trump the degree. But this is over time, many years, and lots of qualifying experience.
I agree that his experience selling will help him out in his new position. But I'm not sure that his limited experience is going to be enough to make him successful at being an executive director. I'm just not seeing that his qualifications are at the normally expected level for such a position.
He may have had some exposure to the topic, and he obviously has had successful experience selling, but not necessarily at the level to be the national Executive Director, I wouldn't think.
I also agree that the family appears to be "family and service oriented and have a great degree of moral standing and compassion".
But many of us are that, and we wouldn't be considered qualified to be the executive director without something more than a GED and a few years selling cars.
I hate to think that he's being led to think he got the job due to his capabilities and qualifications, when it is mostly based on his name. You just feel bad when you see someone being set up for failure.

Yes, and Josh had a high school diploma. One is not offered the job of a CEO of an organization such as this unless that person has a "name." It's not fair to those who have studied, spent years obtaining a degree, and most likely are up to their eyeballs in student debt pursuing such a degree, only to find out that jobs are not out there unless you are someone with "connections" or have made a name for yourself in the entertainment industry. He may have a good business sense, but it's going to take much more than that.
Heck, the CEO of JC Penney had the educational credentials and experience, and even he caused the near demise of that business until someone stepped in and gave him the pink slip.
Homeschooling is fine, but it appears the Duggar children have not been truly socialized with others. They seem to be a pack, no friends other than people from their own religion, and they seem to be quite sheltered. Even the sdult children have parental locks on the computers and they rarely watch TV or listen to music from radio or Ipod. They go to church in the their living room and the girls are rearing the younger siblings and doing the housework, cooking, etc. So I would say they do not have a well rounded view of the world around them. I agree that Josh was hired for his last name only. I have a feeling that one or two of the girls will rebel and leave.

I saw that. I never read Twitter in the past, but with all of the postings here, I got curious, and now I check it out to see what's shakin in the world of the haters and sheep. If Milo considers some of those fans her tweetie buddies, then it's time for them to step up and tell her that her obsession with Kate has gone too far and that's exactly the reason she's poked fun at. Tough love, I suppose, but sometimes it needs to be done.
I think, though, that her crying on Twitter is just a last ditch effort to get a response from Kate. There's a reason Kate is ignoring her, and she needs to come to terms with the fact that Kate doesn't like a Gladys Kravitz following her around.
Regarding the Tweet about her husband demanding she close her Twitter account if he saw the mean tweets about her. Does this mean that he really is unaware of the extent of her celebrity worship? Obviously he doesn't see what she tweets. Maybe he really doesn't know how much she obsesses over Kate and therefore, he doesn't rein her in.

Exactly Nina, he doesn't have the experience to make up for not getting his masters. Look at their staff. Some of them have been politicians for decades. Others worked for politicians. Most have done something impressive for years. Most also spent a long time in school. If a 25 year old is getting his foot in the door it should be because he's been top of his masters program and done extensive work and research in the field. In other words, an all star. Because of this, some other bright promising young man is losing out.
The sheep were celebrating the shut-down of the other blog, elevating BV to the role of Supreme Hero. I guess they didn't foresee that with no place to go, "haters" would be on Twitter. In this case, it backfired and now they're complaining about it. Be careful what you wish for!

I think there's a bunch of Kate fans who would be absolutely ecstatic if Milo left Twitter.
In my opinion, homeschooling is often an excellent choice. There are many more opportunities for creative teaching while the basics are also taught.
However, I think the issue here is Josh Duggar rather than homeschooling in general. Josh is likeable, jovial, hard working, and is definitely a family man. He has strong religious convictions. He probably learns fast.
But Josh Duggar is probably at least an intership or three away from becoming an Exec.
Director of such a huge organization. That's where his experience for success would come from.
I know a Christian man who will ONLY go to dentists, doctors, accountants, shopkeepers,
car techs, etc. who are professed Christians. That's his right, of course, but he has no idea that a certain religious platform is not everything required to do the work at hand. A trained mechanic is what you want no matter what his religious beliefs. I agree that Josh was hired because he believes the party line and has a lot of name recognition. I sure hope they don't wait until the contractions are two minutes apart, like they did this time. Does anyone else think that was rather irresponsible? If you know you will have a one-hour drive to your birthing center, why not leave when the contractions start? Especially since this is her third birth. Babies tend to come faster after the first time.
My brother was born on the way to the hospital (which was much closer than an hour away), delivered by my father. This is because neither he nor my mother expected the delivery to happen so fast. The resulting loss of blood was very hard on my mother's body, but thank goodness she and my brother both survived and were fine.
My parents learned after that and always left for the hospital on the first signs of labor after that lol. Josh looked genuinely worried, so perhaps he and Anna have also learned their lesson - don't push your luck!
On another note - why wasn't Anna wearing some good supportive walking shoes on their trip to D.C. She was wearing flip flops! Pushing two children in a stroller, while heavily pregnant, in flip flops. What in the world? Surely they can afford a decent pair of walking shoes for her.
I'm guessing TLC will either outright buy a small home for them in D.C., or heavily subsidize the rental of a home for them. Why buy right away - the wiser course would be to see if the job goes well and looks like it will last awhile. I notice they showed the very clean and sanitized version of D.C. I lived in Alexandria years ago, and took the Metro into D.C. to my job at an upscale handbag store. You see all different cultures, colors, and types of people. There were panhandlers on every street corner. You kept your purse close to your body. I loved working in D.C., the hustle and bustle, and the incredible blend of cultures. But like most people, I commuted in from a nearby suburb. Anna and Josh could find something less than $3.1 million if they expand their search to a suburb and Josh takes the Metro to work like many people do in that area. Where's that old Duggar "buy used and save the difference" philosophy?
What I like about Twitter is that I can choose to read someone's public Twitter feed without having a twitter account myself. I only do that during some big news situation. Most recently, it was when the Boston bombers were on the verge of being caught. It was fascinating to be able to read the tweets of a local amateur journalist who happened to be in the area, and was reporting live.
I have a friend who loves Craig Ferguson. She's a little obsessive, but not way out there like Milo. I keep an eye and if I thought she was going too far, I would have a gentle talk with her. She follows his twitter account and tweets to him from time to time. She goes to see a taping of his show once a year. That's a more acceptable version of a celebrity crush. She doesn't think they are friends, she doesn't ask him what he's having for dinner, she doesn't get a dog and name him Craig.
And because she has many other facets to her life, she doesn't get caught up in any twitter ugliness. Milo could just as easily tune out any nastiness by choosing to get off twitter, contenting herself with reading Kate's weekly Stir blogs, watching re-runs of the show, and otherwise stepping back from trying to actually be involved somehow in Kate's real life. Seems she cannot do that without being shut out by Kate. I hope Kate continues to ignore her - mainly because that's the only thing that could possibly get Milo to lessen her focus and obsession with Kate.
I think it would be great if this PAC gave Josh an internship with the same salary as their other interns. That way he can prove himself and learn and maybe even go to school part time for public policy or something relevant. Many careers don't necessitate a college degree. This one in my opinion does. You just can't get the high level economics, public policy, politics and interactions with peers and professors to start scratching the surface of inside the beltway otherwise. Extensive experience might equal out eventually but it would take years.
Another point, politics involve complicated legal and ethical regulations, especially funding rules. If you don't follow them you could get your PAC shut down or even jail time. It's imperative you take classes and get experience with the rules of the game for the protection of both you and your PAC.
For the love of sanity, Milo, get the hell off twitter already. Given what she has said today about LOM's feelings about social media, what does she think he's thinking while her fingers fly almost 24/7. What an absolutely unhealthy atmosphere in that household. And for what, the absurd adoration of a has been reality personality who is now patently ignoring her? This has gone beyond ridiculous.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree on this particular issue. They certainly have their brand of morality. My own personality morality is quite different.
Compassion? Not sure if we can really tell that about any of the Duggars or not. A strong belief in having as many children as possible does not equal compassion for others. Oftentimes, their children exhibit a level of discomfort bordering on rudeness when presented with something outside their norm, as in a recent visit to a church run by their trainer. The faces the Duggar offspring made while watching the congregation sing and worship was both funny yet unpleasant. Their parents have not taught them how to be polite when you are in someone else's house of worship.
It's also weird that of the children still living at home, I believe four or five of them are adults; and all the female children still share one room, while all the male children still share one other bedroom. Why don't any of them move out, get jobs that provide an income, or at least - get their own darn room? It's beyond weird to me. That house is huge!
I have no desire to fight over the Duggars though. Some people really like them; others (like me) find them unlikeable and their belief system untenable.

Kate could really score some Brownie points if she read the riot act to her and shut her up. I just don't understand why she lets this go on.
Her hatred of Jon and her narcissism prevent her from doing what is right. She's also very vindictive and vengeful. She thinks she's been wronged and she sees nothing wrong with retweeting some of the nasty things and/or she doesn't ask that the tweets stop. She just doesn't get it when we say that she hates Jon more than she loves her children. She uses every excuse in the book to justify her actions, too, even though they're as misplaced as her original response.
IDK whether it's the narcissism or the hatred that is predominant, but either way, just like with stopping the supposed bullying (which in most cases was justified criticism of a pubic figure), she feels any and every retaliation is justified.
She just doesn't see things like we do. Her brain/personality developed with some flaws and she'll never understand that her thinking and actions are wrong, nor why so many people question what she says and does. She's also just plain vengeful. When she said "no, never means no", she meant it and so much more.

I think that there quite a few on this blog who would agree with you...including me.
I'm guessing TLC will either outright buy a small home for them in D.C., or heavily subsidize the rental of a home for them.
TLC may decide to do more filming of this part of the family, but I don't think that they will be involved at all with their housing funding in DC. I think that's on J&A all the way OR the PAC will cover part of his housing; in fact they may already own properties used just for that purpose.
I don't see the family being happy and lasting long in DC, especially Anna. Being away from the hands on help and support she's used to from Josh and the rest of the Duggars and being a newbie in a BUSY city while she's trying to raise 3 toddlers may end up being too much for her. I hope I'm wrong, but I've never seen her as very outgoing or self confident, things needed to successfully transition thru the move and getting established in a city so different from anything they're used to.
This new job and move will definitely test their marriage and faith. I wish them well.

Yes, and one wonders why she doesn't question why other "supporters" such as Leigh, Barb and Gypsi (among others) are not under fire as she believes herself to be. If her tweetie friends really do care about her, they should explain to her how bizarre these tweets come across. It's doubtful that she could comprehend this, but it would be worth a try. Of course, if she's paranoid, she might turn on them for telling the truth, thinking that they are out to "get" her, too.

Her emotional maturity, much like Kate's, is very stunted. This is how a 7th grade girl acts when something doesn't go her way. Pouts, pulls the pity card, and actually thinks this is an effective way to get what they want. I can't imagine dealing with an adult who behaves like this.
Most girls realize as they get older this behavior is silly, childish and immature, and that adults shouldn't act like that. But not Milo. Whenever she doesn't get her way she sulks and plays the poor me thing. Grow up. It's very off putting.

It's strange to me that he got his GED. Most of the homeschool families I know (including ours) don't have their children obtain GEDs because of the perception of a substandard diploma. We instead issue our own diplomas to the homeschool graduates. I'm sure custom varies by state and location.

That was the Australia Zoo's "Win a Lunch with Kate" contest to raise money for the Zoo. Last I heard it raised about $1,200 - $1,500, far less than it cost the Zoo to fly her over, give her accommodations, etc.

I can't find an update article on this. But we talked about this back in 2011 when ex husband Anthony Morelli had been trashing his ex-wife on his blog, insulting her parenting, calling her fat, and so on. The judge ordered him to take down the blog, and he appealed on free speech grounds. I haven't done an extensive search but at first blush I can't find the results of that case or it may still be pending.
In any case, we pulled this quote from the judge way back in 2011 and sadly it is STILL relevant today when a parent condones trashing of their ex they can clearly see even on their own timeline:

Re: Duggars. I so agree with those who say their belief system leaves something to be desired. I find them holier-than-thou with a downright obnoxious manner with anyone outside "The Family" who they deem unworthy. Which is most of us. As for Josh, I think he is probably smart, just uneducated. A GED does not require one to be a rocket scientist. I am a supporter of home schooling, but one actually has to be schooled. It doesn't happen by osmosis. I remember one episode where they showed a little of the home schooling. One of the boys, he was about 7, was working on his letters. I thought to myself, if he showed up in my 2nd grade classroom I'd be very concerned at how far behind he was and I'd be asking for a parent conference pronto while starting all kinds of interventions.

You're right. In fact, she seemed to rejoice in it. She bragged about it, how she was constantly being battered by the haters, but she had strong shoulders and she could take it. She said she would never give up supporting Kate.
She could block those she thinks are harassing her. Why does she read those tweets? Why not just block the offenders and continue to "support" Kate by tweeting the platitudes and promoting Kate's book? This is what really bothered me when I first saw it. Kate doesn't seem to understand what a nanny does. A nanny is not a housekeeper or assistant, unless they are hired as a housekeeper/assistant/nanny, which most try to avoid anyway because it's so impossible. If a nanny can squeeze in time to tidy up after the adults and look after the adults that's great, but a nanny's priority is to be with the children, play with them, keep them safe, and tidy up after and assist THE KIDS first. There were eight kids here, eight kids in a foreign place, eight little kids to keep a close eye on. They were often in dangerous places like the Grand Canyon. It would be a full time job for Ashley simply to keep eight kids fed, happy, safe and clean, and from what we saw she was great at it. What's bothersome is that Kate would see the other trailer goofing off laughing and having fun, and instead of being happy for them they were enjoying the trip and staying out of her hair, she would resent it.
Part of any good nanny's job on vacation is to help the children have fun. This HELPS Kate by keeping eight whiney unhappy kids out of her hair. However Kate just didn't see any of this. Not a bit of it. She does not value the role Ashley played. She doesn't value a nanny who is keeping kids happy and out of your hair, a feat not always easy. Instead Ashley did nothing, in Kate's eyes. She just doesn't get it.
I always wonder if the kids realize that she's posting those pictures on twitter for everyone to see.
I can see her implying to them that she's just 'making memories'.
I don't think the little ones are QUITE old enough to understand what it means to have your pic posted like that on twitter. They're almost there. How does a small child even grasp the number of followers, much less grasp the idea of creepy fans or people who may be looking at them for inappropriate reasons?
That's why it's such a joke to say oh they're fine with it. They don't UNDERSTAND it.
If the kids were 14, that's different.

I.e. part of TLC's budget. However this was just like the money situation with Aunt Jodi, even if Kate's salary wouldn't go up and down based on whether others are paid too, it really bothers her if others are making money off the situation if they are not doing exactly what she is doing. She can't stand it. It's really sad. She saw it as a fixed pie and she wanted it all and still does, not as something that could grow and expand to accommodate others and everyone benefits. People who see life as a fixed pie rarely get past middle management.

If I made the eggs, bacon, French toast, cereal, pancakes and waffles breakfast every day, the kids would look at me like I'm nuts -- a few sandwiches short of a picnic. It WAS cruel. Therein lies the very essence of kate.
This is the same woman who HAD to win a battle of "wills" with a 2 (I think) year old on CWS.
I just have really two or three things to say.
Breakfast: definitely was over embellished, in the CWS show, all they had was pancakes. That's it. She prolbably threw in a half banana. A full breakfast, to me, is 5-star meal with multiple choices and have more than just pancakes. I think her wording of the 'full deal' was fir weekends only probably.

OT the Duggar son getting job in DC. Not surprising at all that a lobbying group would get someone with name recognition. Exactly! She flat out admitted she's not a dog person. In the show when they got Shoka back she pointed out his doghouse. He is NOT a family member. I was not a big dog person until my daughter begged me to get one. I fell in love with her and she IS family and I am now a dog person. You cannot consider a dog to be a member of the family and not love all dogs in my opinion. That just doesn't make sense.

I find the Celebrity Worship Syndrome fascinating, if not just a little bit frightening. How do these fans get to the point where they think that a celebrity actually cares about them, "knows" them and would say hello to kids from them? I can just hear Kate, "feeding" her kids and stopping to say, "Oh, by the way, Colleen in Canada says hi."
I looked at the timeline of this fan, and she tweets Jen (the Little Couple) and tells her to kiss her son for her, asks her what her plans are for the day; tweets Gene Simmons and wants to meet him in Canada and asks if it's okay to show him around the mall; Amy Roloff, Miley Cyrus, Donnie Wahlberg (tells him she baked cookies); Bobby Brown (told him what time she woke up); and on and on and on.
Do these people really believe that they have a personal connection to celebrities? Twitter has opened up a whole new world in which Celebrity Worship Syndrome is fed. It's gone so far beyond the days of writing to a celebrity though snail mail, hoping that the person in charge of the fan club will send out a pre-autographed stamped photo to you.

Hi LB. I mean no disrespect, but I just needed to respond here because I am rather sensitive to the mischaracterization of OCD. OCD is a serious mental disorder that has nothing to do with someone being weak. It can present in many different ways and with many different types of behavior. In some cases, OCD can be managed successfully using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, while other cases require medication. It is a disorder that can be debilitating.
I don't believe for a second that Kate suffers from OCD. It is yet another of her lies she uses to excuse her methods of controlling others.

I'd like to know the Doberman's side of the story when it comes to biting Kate. Although there's no justification for a dog biting, was Kate teasing it, torturing it, hurting it, or bothering him when he was eating? Judging by how she teased this dog, I bet she was.

Cardboard from the cheap place, I guess. I think they look overcooked on the center part and undercooked on the crust and overall disgusting but then I have high standards for pizza. I will only eat at a few pizza places and most of them aren't chains.

There is NOTHING wrong with not being a dog person. Just don't get a dog! My dad too was bit by a dog as a child and was out jogging and had his knee tore up as an adult and he was rightly deathly afraid of dogs. So we....didn't....have....a....dog. We simply weren't going to welcome a dog into the family if everyone wasn't on board with it. As a child that was sad for me. As an adult now, I understand it. That's not fair to the dog. When the kids moved out, we could get a dog if we chose. I did.
The rescue organization I volunteer with flat out rejects you if any family member shows hesitation about getting a dog. You're done.

Tweet, I agree, I think they may have a hard time fitting in generally. I didn't perceive D.C. as a very large-family-friendly city. It is dominated by young professionals, singles, career oriented, fast paced, tourist laden. It is still a wonderful place to raise a family, but other places are more baby friendly. It's not a city where you can get away with bringing your 6 year old to the office or your sleeping baby to the movie theater. I still think they will find it very different than what they are used to. I get this two years before they miss Arkansas too much and go home.

I totally agree. The old days of celebrity worship had firm boundaries. You wrote to the fan club and if you were lucky you would get a signed photo back. This kind of thing is good for people obsessed with celebrities. It never gives them the opportunity to feel like they are "close."
Nowadays celebs do twitter and public appearances and I'm always hearing about these conventions they have where a bunch of D-listers gather and give autographs. It's opened a door you can't close again.

I've learned a couple things from her bogs. One is that her life sounds inexplicably boring (Karma). The other is that she has no interest in what is happening outside Kate's world. Never a story about someone else, never bog fodder about anyone else. Never a story or thought or feeling that isn't 99% about her.

I couldn't agree more! She should write a blog about a D-list celebrity and talk about her clothes, her hair and make-up, her career choices, the people she hangs out with, her plastic surgery, her cars, her dog, her home, etc. THAT would be something to read!

Do these people really believe that they have a personal connection to celebrities? Twitter has opened up a whole new world in which Celebrity Worship Syndrome is fed. It's gone so far beyond the days of writing to a celebrity though snail mail, hoping that the person in charge of the fan club will send out a pre-autographed stamped photo to you.

I totally agree. The old days of celebrity worship had firm boundaries. You wrote to the fan club and if you were lucky you would get a signed photo back.
