Don't waste your money on Jobs, but listen to this speech.
"I believe that opportunity looks a lot like hard work. When I was thirteen I had my first job with my dad carrying shingles up to the roof. And then I got a job washing dishes at a restaurant. And then I got a job in a grocery store deli. And then I got a job at a factory sweeping Cherrio dust off the ground. And I've never had a job in my life that I was better than. I was always just lucky to have a job. And every job I had was a stepping stone to my next job, and I never quit my job until I had my next job. And so opportunities look a lot like work."

«Oldest ‹Older 1001 – 1109 of 1109 Newer› Newest»mamaK, the folks Kate hired included a food stylist ( see acknowledgments inside the book) which means someone else actually made the food presentable to be photographed. That's why you are seeing discrepencies between her recipes and the photos. A food stylist actually goes to cooking school. Kate didn't lift a finger in that kitchen. I bet she needs all those freezers for the stuff her caterer Katherine drops off. The cookbook is a joke.
What stood out to me, though, was reading her recipe for Turkey stock. (specifically turkey.) She has you using the carcass and water, and then a t of this and a t of that. That's all
Makes me wonder who really cooked and put this book together.
******
That's a BIG discrepancy. I noted a small one on one of the chicken recipes in the preview, in that it's garnished with a different fresh herb than what's in the recipe.
Omitting aromatics from chicken or turkey stock is a major problem. Carrots, celery and onion are the minimum to develop flavor.
Wow.
Perhaps TFW's agent made a very civil call to DWTS to advise them to reconsider any idea of having Jon on the show. She simply could have advised them that Jon would likely have to be in PA to attend court, therefore needing to leave the show mid-season. A call from Kate's camp could have been framed as a "head's up" type of call to them. "Kate is launching a lawsuit against Jon and his friend Robert, just so you are aware" Mission accomplished.
Anything said on this subject is just a guess of course, but IF he was on a list, then off it, my guess is that Kate had something to do with it.
Again, purely speculation.....until discovery.
Kate doesn't want Jon to make money because she hates him and because if he made decent money he'd be able to buy a nice house for the kids and get more custody and some of the kids would be able to live with him. She's terrified of the kids being happy with him.

Remember this is not the first time Jon has had opportunities to support his children quashed by Kate's camp. There is precedent here. The Superbowl commercial was sabotaged too. So was Ed Hardy, he wanted to just do a one time thing to set the kids up for life and TLC said NO
___________
If it is true that the blind item was about Jon, I don't see it as remotely similar to the situation after he quit the show. In this case, it is an act of revenge by a wrathful woman so focused on crushing the father of her children that she has lost all perspecive, let alone common sense. Obviously, it would be in the best interest of her kids if both parents were financially comfortable.
However, Jon had a contract with TLC, and , for years he was well-paid for that contract. He broke the contract and settled because there probably wasn't much of a case to be made since he was of sound mind when he signed those contracts. TLC invested in that family, and corporations protect their investments. And, IMO, it is probable that he continued to draw a salary large enough to justify his $23,000/month child support.
I don't know about anyone else, but I am always held to the contracts that I sign. I just sold a business that required me to sign a non-compete agreement for two years. If I break that agreement, I will get sued. How is his contract any different? The Gosselin family were assets of greedy corporation, and Jon and TFW were both responsible for that. Possibly, if Jon had approached TLC and tried to negotiate with them, there may have been some kind of arrangement that would have benefitted everyone.
While the article does sound like Jon, I agree with the posters that said she doesn't have that kind of power, or, that DWTS would shy away from any kind of publicity--the more buzz, the better. If they didn't want that, then why have one of the most polarizing wormen on earth on the show, who, aso had a lot of drama going on during her stint ? I'm not saying that TFW woun't do this to Jon--I am skeptical that she could. If TFW has that kind of power, wouldn't she use it for herself? she couldn't even get on the All-Stars.
Might help explain why Robert's so cocky. He has info about DWTS he can pull out that would blow her complaints about Jon and Robert preventing her from "working" out of the water. (like my working in quotes?)
It's so sad she doesn't encourage a loving, healthy, positive relationship between the kids and their father. She herself has admitted there is bad blood between her and her father and that she has daddy issues. Knowing how painful that is, why on earth would she want that for her children?
Paige is giddy and high because she's going to meet Kate. I hope that everything works out for her. If she's planning on hanging out with Kate and it doesn't happen, she needs to reconcile how she's going to deal with it. She tweeted that she hopes it's more than just a minute that she gets to spend with her.
Fans and celebrities can make for strange bed fellows. If a fan finally meets a celebrity, expects special treatment because she or he has worshiped that person forever and that doesn't happen, all hell may break loose. If a fan attends a meet and greet, for instance, and there are 20 or so other fans there, obviously the celebrity is not going to have the time to spend with one person. If a fan has a backstage pass, he may expect one-on-one time with the celebrity, following him around and wanting to sit down with a glass of wine for chit-chatting. More times than not, it doesn't happen. There are schedules to follow, especially if the celebrity is doing a "rush" and not sitting down after a show but rather running off to catch a plane or bus. The fan may be left there with his/her mouth hanging open, wondering what happened. How dare that celebrity get away that fast? After weeks of anticipation and planning on what the fan was going to say and do, dragging albums, books, shirts, to the meet and greet, the celebrity left the fan with having only one or two things signed.
There was one fan that I remember in particular...had idolized a celebrity for years and finally was able to secure a backstage pass. Much gushing took place. The fan, believing that he was now best buddies with the celebrity, asked for a donation to a local fund in which he was involved. The celebrity declined, saying that donations come from someone who was involved in handling such things and he would put the fan in contact with that person. He couldn't reach into his own pocket for obvious reasons. The fan turned on him. Next day he was bashing the celebrity all over the internet, with stories about how cheap he was, a mean, nasty, and vile person. Such was not the case.
Sometimes when we meet our idols and get to know them and they don't meet our expectations, there's a feeling of being let down as our perceptions of them are changed. We still may admire them, but many times it's just not the same because we realize that they are human. They are knocked down a peg or two. I hope that this meeting (or meetings) between Kate and Paige is positive...for Paige's sake.
Having said that, can you imagine Milo at a book signing? ;-)
Colicky baby experience.
After MONTHS of caring for a screaming baby and calling my pediatrician in tears several times, he told me to switch to Soy formula.
Like magic ... almost overnight. Happy baby.
I was SO MAD it took so long to get that advice that I changed pediatricians.
30 years later that pediatrician still practices and I still tell parents-to-be that story about him. Poor guy. I should probably stop. I'm sure he's learned a few things in 30 years ... like don't screw around with a new exhausted mother! :-)
Fans and celebrities can make for strange bed fellows. If a fan finally meets a celebrity, expects special treatment because she or he has worshiped that person forever and that doesn't happen, all hell may break loose.
&&&
The thing that I've always found interesting about fans and celebs is when they meet for the fan it's like two best friends reunited but for the celeb it's meeting a stranger. The fan has it in their head they know you and have a relationship with you. I guess it's sort of like meeting someone you don't remember because you were too little when you last saw them. They love you and hug you and kiss you, but to you it's weird because you don't know them at all.
Julie Ormond talked about this once in an interview although I can't remember where. She said basically that it makes her feel very odd that people think they know "her." And that she feels weird about being herself because she thinks who she really is isn't the sweet demure sort of character she usually plays (or did in the 90s). Her personality apparently is quite crass, not very feminine, and she was at least at one point a six pack a day smoker.
Wonder if Kate loses 'fans' after they meet her- despite everyone loving her- maybe they finally see she doesn't care about them, is aloof and rude, and is just not the goddess she ( and they) have created in their minds.
It's JMC's job to get jobs for her clients. She advocated for Bill Nye. BUT, I would not be surprised that part of what went on was an opportunity to deny the job to Jon. Kate gets her minions to do her dirty work as in BV, so perhaps JMC had other motives to push for her client. The rumors may swirl, but what is needed is someone to come forward and that may happen in discovery. JMC may find herself sitting in an attorney's office thanks to Kate.
Getting back to DWTS, I was disappointed in Jon still trying to recapture some celebrity status but I understand his need to raise some cash.

...............
Just an observation, but it seems that TFW has either a hate or distrust issue against men in general. She spews her rath and makes derogatory comments more so, toward Jon, Kiwi man, the solar panel guy, the white water rafting guide, her OWN sons, etc. I remember seeing a video on line. She was at one of her church meet n greet. But I remember she made some comment ( I forget the exact words) . Something like " you have to show man who is the boss" . And the pastor, who was a man, was standing near by.
I wonder if she has that man hating attitude toward her father.?
Kate doesn't want Jon to make money because she hates him and because if he made decent money he'd be able to buy a nice house for the kids and get more custody and some of the kids would be able to live with him. She's terrified of the kids being happy with him.
*****************************
Can you imagine that if he were on the show, the kids would be watching every Monday night, saying that hey, Daddy is doing great, and Kate standing there trying to bite her tongue but not being able to...trashing him how bad he is, he's making a fool out of himself, she was much better than he is. It wouldn't be a happy television-watching experience for the kids.
I read the gossip item and I can't think of anyone else other than Jon that this would be about. It fits perfectly, even the fact that TFW's publicist is also Bill Nye's. She's so vindictive I can see why she hasn't even been linked to another other man aside from Steve after several years of being divorced. And the timing of this lawsuit would be something that DWTS would not want to be involved with. She's brutal and a nightmare to be divorced from.
Oops--hit send by mistake.
He was sued because he was taking money for appearing at parties and also had a deal with Entertainment Tonight that allowed them exclusive access and the right to photograph the kids. He also did a cohost gig on that show where Nancy Grace ripped him to shreds.
It is pretty clear that all rights to that family and their images contractually belonged to TLC. If he had gone about it differently, that commercial may have been made. He and his idiot lawyer went out there and mouthed off at how Jon was going to beat TLC in court. That was just stupid. Had there been quiet negotiations, Jon may have been released. Even a family court judge ruled that the contract could stand.
I don't agree with the family court judge that children should be forced to support their family, but, it wasn't like the kids' welfare wasn't considered--it was.
Going on shows and bad-mouthing TLC was a stupid move, because, it forced them to enforce their contract and protect their interests.. That is what corporations do. If people don't like that, then I guess they shouldn't watch any show that features a minor.
The problem, in this case, wasn't a greedy corporation--it was a set of parents who grabbed the shiny thing dangled in front of them, and, failed to protect their children.
My first born was very colicky and barely slept for months. We did a lot of rocking and pushing a stroller in the house and wherever we went and found that he actually slept better after being rocked or fell asleep for naps in the stroller. Hang in there, it will pass. I found adding bits of baby cereal and solids probably earlier than some others helped and my child slept better and the gas eventually passed. This was almost 30 years ago, but I do remember a product out for this, but I don't know if it even is still available.

That said, at the Santa Monica book signing I was allowed to bring my Amazon book. But I did ask ahead of time.
--------------------
That's what I was wondering. Do all book stores allow you to bring books that you have purchased elsewhere? If you bought it at B&N before the signing, would you have to show your receipt that you bought it there, or do they take your word for it? Is there someone at the door making sure that you don't bring books into the store to sign? I don't know...I never did it that way. I don't pre-order books. If I see that an author is doing a signing, I'll go to the store, purchase the book there and stand in line.
What if you have other books at home by the same author. Do they allow you to bring those to be signed, or just the current ones that they are selling?
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
I've been wondering about that too. Does anyone know?
Also, if TFMJG could stop admiring herself in the mirror and making plans for her upcoming ME--ME--ME--MEEEEEEE tour long enough to do some planning and organizing, she could 'piece and patch' together some more income by taking boxes of her other books stored in the basement to these book signings in case her sheeple, er fans, want more copies and sign those too. Maybe even run a BIGIF deal.

Sort of funny now, but when I graduated Eng.Lit.teacher predicted I'd be a writer..oh well, at least I know a very good one >
----------------------
Do the sheeple really believe that Kate is a good writer, or is this just a suck-up? It's been said on here that for the fans, who have difficulty with spelling and grammar ("I seen") and still haven't figured out "loose and lose," "your and you're" "their, they're, and there" most likely hold Kate's writing in high esteem because they just don't know any better. Her blogs were written on the middle school level, and that's being generous.
According to Bill Nye’s website, his appearances are booked through a Betsy Berg @ The Agency Group. If you go to her Facebook page, she has a post about voting for Bill. JMC is the contact for licensing and product development. For Bill Nye.

@Kateplusmy8 Still wondering some days what 2FIX? Order #LoveIsInTheMix...at http://kateplusmy8.com So much MORE than a gr8 cook book! :)
What to fix? She's making it sound like a plumbing manual. Just roam the house looking for something to fix -- dishwasher, dryer, clogged drain, backed up toilet. I usually don't have to "wonder" what to fix. It's staring me in the face!
Is TFW's thinking that if SHE can't get a high paying gig neither can Jon? We'll never know what her thinking is until her brain can be unearthed and studied 1000 years from now, but my bet is Jon is not allowed to get more PR than she's getting. If, for example, she had a permanent chair on the View or that show with Paula Deen and Rene Syler, she might not put up a fuss about Jon getting some nice attention for a few weeks on DWTS. She would still be beating him at the game of Who's the Best?
It sounds like HCI is sending out quite a few books out to B&N all over the country. I know it's only about 5 books per store but that can add up. Someone is going to take a huge loss! No wonder Kate is on desperate mode, I'm so excited yay,yay and I already named my next four books, yay,yay, so excited!!! Her desperation is showing and it's not pretty!
I'm going out and checking in on B&N to see if and how many books are on the shelves and report later.

I view Jon's motives as pretty altruistic. At least compared to TFMJG. He may be trying to regain a little bit of his celebrity, but I also feel he is doing so as a springboard to a career--such as a speaking engagements--which will help him better provide for his kids.
His claim to fame is no worse than THMJG and some of the other celebrities who have competed in the past. I think TFMJG should enjoy this time now because I predict she is going to get her flat backside handed to her when the lawsuit reaches court and/or Robert's book comes out. Which should open the door to Jon doing DWTS in the future.
Capecodmama,
We shop at the same B&N. :-)
In addition to all the colic remedies mentioned,(and tried by yours truly on second baby who seemed to cry every evening for a year) an alternative to the bicycle movement is to pump the baby's legs, when in a relaxed state (don't force obviously), in and out together. Basically, the bicycle movement but with both legs going at the same time. Also, when gently massaging the babies abdomen, move hands in a wide clockwise circle, as this will help move gas or waste towards the exit. Finally, we came to the conclusion that our daughter was on sensory overdrive in all ways, so dimming lights, turning down the tv and making sure there were no weird seams or scratchy bits rubbing the wrong way also helped.
Good luck to your daughter. It is so hard to have a baby crying but feeling helpless to ease thier discomfort.
The problem, in this case, wasn't a greedy corporation--it was a set of parents who grabbed the shiny thing dangled in front of them, and, failed to protect their children.
-------------------
A greedy corporation also contributed to the "problem." Their hands weren't clean in this. All of the blame can't be placed on the parents. The corporation must have known that the parents were novices, wet behind the ears, so to speak, and took that opportunity to make it benefit them.
Re: colic. I am NOT advising this, but my mother used to tell me but this 'wonder' product she used called Gripe Water- apparently it was full of alcohol- she was horrified to learn this, especially being a teetotaler.
Wouldn't be surprised in TFW used this for the kids...and herself!

~~~~~~~~~~
I'm not as sure as you seem to be that Jon trying to be on DWTS is his need to be a celebrity again. I think that it is ALL about his need to make some money, and DWTS would have been a chance to make a bunch of money in a short time. It also would have freed him from his second job, leaving more time for him to be with his children.
There is not a B&N within 60 miles of me. The people here wouldn't go buy one of her books
if B&N were on every street corner. No fans of hers live here, apparently. Nobody seems to even remember her name. She is a dim memory.
Blowing in the Wind--obviously, I don't know what happened behind closed doors. But, I have an opinion, just like every one else.
Of course. However, sometimes it's difficult to differentiate between opinion and fact, such as this comment:
"He was sued because he was taking money for appearing at parties and also had a deal with Entertainment Tonight that allowed them exclusive access and the right to photograph the kids."
Fact or opinion?
Back in the olden days when we had colicky babies, we did as URL said. We added a little rice cereal to their bottle. I remember poking the nipple holes to be bigger so the cereal would go through.
Is someone dealing with a colicky baby? If so, I'll toss this out there for what it's worth: My son wasn't colicky per se, but he did have trouble digesting regular formula when I switched from breast milk. After several different tries, I found Carnation Good Start, which is whey protein and apparently much easier to digest. It worked for my son.
Paige_Kate8fan
@Kateplusmy8 will I get to meet Steve!?
-----------------------
Unless he's off on a pizza break, checking out square footage of closets in which to hide, sharpening his claws, or deleting photos, my guess would be yes.
Paige is getting all bent out of shape over this. She will pester Kate from now until the signing or show, or wherever she is planning on hanging out with Kate. I hope all goes well for her and she doesn't bring along her treasure trove of photos and memorabilia to sign.
With obsessed fans, you just never know.
If Kate has pre-sold less than 50 books in Canada since the announcement of the book, why is she doing a signing and shows there? Isn't it rather obvious that there really isn't much interest about her there? Why wouldn't you concentrate on more signings in the US where you could sell more books?
One thing I did notice about the cover. Because TFW had her eight moneymakers on the cover, no one stands out and they look small. However, with Giada, Ina and Trisha Yearwood, for example, they are the only ones on the cover of their cookbooks so their photo is up close and large.
******
Good point. And I guess even TFW has to recognize that she doesn't have much selling power on her own, so she has to include the children in the cover photo, in the hopes that they will encourage people to buy the book. Sounds as if people will have to be specifically looking for this cookbook to find it/notice it. And I believe the ones specifically looking for it have probably already purchased a copy through Amazon or Barnes & Nobles.
Toronto is a metropolitan city with a population of over six million in the greater Toronto area.
There must be at least one brave person, other than Paige, willing to go the book signing with a printout of How She Fooled the World and ask her to autograph it together with her book.
It won't however be me.
Re: the colicky baby...another thought: our little one turned out to be lactose intolerant, but we didn't discover that problem until she was much older.
I've often wondered if that is what the colic was all about, for her anyway.
After several different tries, I found Carnation Good Start, which is whey protein and apparently much easier to digest. It worked for my son.
It's now Gerber Good Start, and I agree. Mine did not tolerate any of the other formulas, and was constantly spitting up Similac. Good Start solved the problem in a matter of days.
I thought that Milo lives in Georgia, but if she lives in Florida, wouldn't you think that she would have signed up for a cruise that left from Lauderdale? Something just didn't make sense with that whole thing.
I wonder if she is really the uber fan that she claims to be, or if she's just yanking the haters' chains with her bizarre tweets (especially about Kate's body) just to torment them as she laughs at their responses.
I'VE WAITED LONG YEARS FOR THIS MOMENT @Kateplusmy8 :P
And this is exactly why Kate needs someone with her, whether it's Steve or store security, especially at the hotel where she will be staying. You just never know...
Not totally OT, but for a bit of levity and perspective on Kate's cookbook and tour: It seems to be a foregone conclusion that reality tv stars, mostly the women, will get book deals, auto-tuned singing deals, vodka deals, skin care deals, hair product deals and on and on. Oh, isn't branding grand!
It's just name recognition and has nothing to do with talent.
I remember years ago watching that Gotti family show and Victoria, the mother, wrote a cookbook and I thought, "wow, I didn't realize that she was like a chef, like she must really be good at cooking!".
Now, I have no idea if she can or can't cook, but let me just say that I wouldn't make that same assumption anymore (well, not after "Money Cant Buy You Class, anyway). Based on years of watching these women peddle their snake oil, it just goes with the territory.
If a woman who calls that thing with 2 slices of bread and something in between a "sangwich" can write a cookbook, then my dogs can too.
So, today on the Today Show, Hoda and Kathy Lee interviewed the latest RHONJ to release a book, Melissa Gorga. Her book, called "Love Italian Style..." is an homage the air that occupies her head.
Gorga started off strong, but when pressed for examples of how she keeps her marriage (to her Italian Stallion) so "hot" she proffered such astute advice, like instead of wearing loose sweatpants around the house, wear tight yoga pants because, you know, men are visual.
Keeping your pits shaved is essential-- biblically mandated, one could argue and most of all ladies, do not ever let on that you poop.
You know, keep *some* mystery.
Let's just say that Hoda and Kathy Lee felt there was no more mystery to this marital genius, and moved along smartly. Seriously, I don't think they evened tried to massage a segue out of that sucking hole of dreck.
I didn't say Milo lives if Florida, just speculated because someone who does live there seems to know what Milo looks like. They tweet about football a lot, maybe exchanged photos. Who knows?
I've always been under the impression that one reason Milo didn't sign up for the cruise was because she wasn't fully recovered from her surgery and was hobbling around. Not sure I'd want to be on a cruise ship if I weren't feeling well either, especially on a moving ship.
I have no love, or liking, for Kate Gosselin whatsoever, but the thought of obsessed fan Paige showing up for this book signing with whatever ideas she has of this being the glory moment of her life, well, it's more than a little scary. We all know KG does not care a bit. This is not heading towards anything good.
True, but if you are that obsessed with a celebrity and she's your whole world, you find some way to go...or at least show up at the pier or hotel or whatever, just to be able to rub elbows with her, especially if the place of departure was only a few hours or even a state away.
She did ask Kate what Kate imagined that she would look like. That in itself was a very odd question and could have shown that she was considering making the trip.
Seriously "Ex-Nurse" you're obsessing over something that occurred with Jon 4 YEARS ago??? Let it go..
After taking a look at TFW' upcoming book "tour", all I can say is, "That's it???". One place in NJ. One in NY. One in Toronto. And the Baltimore Book Fair, where authors pay for a table. You can't tell me TFW or HCI didn't send out hundreds more requests. TFW would take anything, as long as it meant time alone with Steve. And yet, after one week, her entire book promo is finished. If the book is going "back to print", then shouldn't she more in demand?
I wonder how many bookstores turned her down. How many shows just weren't interested. If I were TFW, I would be so embarrassed.
I'm very tempted to hop on over to the Baltimore event, right down the road from me, and check things out. Could be interesting! I'd love to ask her how the US leg of her book tour is going. Two whole stops! Must be exhausting!
Anyone else planning on going? If so, remember to wear socks with your crocs. It's getting a bit chilly out here. I'm planning on wearing Birkenstocks and some of those socks with the separate toe-thingies on them. What can I say? I'm a slave to fashion. Watch for me!
I wonder if our old friend "Z" from Baltimore Sun is planning to check in on Kate? You know he just adored her..LOL
Last time I checked, Jon's picture was still in the header of this blog. Fair game. Feel free to scroll by, but I have as much right to post an opinion as anyone else.
I went to Calabasas to the B&N store and Kate's book was not available. It's a pretty large store and they have tons of cookbooks. On the table with the top selling books was Teresa G. ( housewife ) book.
I don't know how B&N decided which stores would sell Kate's book. I bet Kate would have have loved having her book there and a signing session, afterwards her and her bestie, Kendra, would have gone out to lunch! LOL
I didn't say the basis of the lawsuit was about the kids appearing on the show. I said Jon pulled them off and then was sued. The fact that they came out with some other reason to sue him does not change my belief the whole thing was about the kids and Jon trying to stop that. The point of me even saying that was to say that Kate's camp does not hesitate to interfere with his work opportunities. Whether they may be justified or not is beside the point. The point is, they will interfere. Interfering with DWTS, therefore, if it happened, would certainly not be without precedent. My intent was not to rehash the whole lawsuit from four years ago and go into who was wrong or right. That's been covered I think! :)
Layla, I wish I could meet you there. I would wear my go-to-town Crocs instead of my gardening Crocs!
If you do go, please come back with a report.
I'm agreeing with Dot (4 upthread) that the main reason for keeping Jon destitute is to prevent one or even some of the childred from being able to move in with him. He did say in that blog interview that some of them do want to. Then there was that emailed from TFW to Hailey or her mom that she just had to get the kids away from Jon. This combined with her fundamental nastiness and control issues leads me to believe the DWTS story.
Robert's book and/or the court case cannot come soon enough, because I think that will be the catalyst that will cause some change in the power dynamic at work here. Hope so anyway.
Well then, I guess my mortgage company is interfering with my ability to take an extravagant vacation! Wow, Ok then. Got the message. Just rewrite history, and I won't bother with the inconvenient facts any longer. Either Jon is an adult, and is held to the same expectations as everyone else, or he gets some kind of special pass. If he wanted to make it about the kids, he should not have very publicly broken his legal agreements. Then, he could have enlisted public sentiment which just might have had some effect on TLC's actions. But, no, he flaunted it. He is, and always has been, his own worst enemy.
And, BTW, I absolutely agree that he should be able to appear on DWTS, and that this is revenge. But, seriously, if TFW has that kind of influence, wouldn't she use it to get work for herself? Where does blind gossip get there stories? Sounds like this may have been fed to them--it so perfectly fits into the scenarios that are being speculated. Could even have been a plant from TFW herself, whether true or untrue.
Ex Nurse, I usually agree with most of what you say. I guess since Jon is the lesser of the two evils some people would make excuses for him. But Jon dug quite a hole for himself and his children are suffering for it.
Anyway, I don't think Jon was sued for stopping his own participation in the show. He wasn't even sued for stopping production...He was sued because he was taking money for appearing at parties and also had a deal with Entertainment Tonight that allowed them exclusive access and the right to photograph the kids.
___________________________
Ex Nurse - I must completely disagree. TLC went after him solely and simply because he stopped production and pulled the plug on their cash cow. Had Jon continued to allow the children to be filmed, TLC wouldn't have given a rat's patootie what other shows or appearances he booked. There were plenty of situations where TLC allowed Jon and Kate to benefit from Third Party opportunities. If Jon had stayed on board, TLC would probably have been quite happy to allow him to do appearances because it would have meant even more publicity for J&Kplus8.
TLC and Kate did everything they could to make it impossible for him to find media work. It was a blatant attempt to strong-arm him into letting the kids be filmed. They punished him and smeared his name and made darn sure he would not have enough money to afford decent legal representation.
The whole non-compete clause cited as the reason for suing Jon was nothing more than a convenient smoke-screen.
I stopped at B&N today to check out the infamous cookbook. I couldn't find it and finally had to ask a clerk for help. She found it still in the back room. Haha! Anyway, I skimmed through it and thought her fruit dip sounded good. It called for a container of whipped topping.
"What size topping, Kate, you idiot?" I assume it would be 8 oz. but I'm not going to make a recipe where I have to guess the amounts.
Her hamburger, gravy and noodles looked kind of good but there were mushrooms in the picture but not in the recipe.
At that point I gave up and took it back to the desk.
I don't think TFW had influence in general. I think she does have influence with ABC. Apparently she has been able to use that influence with ABC. As you recall her last major gig was on ABC less than a year ago.
&&&&&&&&&&
Yepper. That's how I see it. He stopped production. They knew that Kate couldn't make it on her own. The dynamics between them was the draw. Their cash cow was gone, plain and simple and they were going to do whatever they needed to do to punish him.
Could even have been a plant from TFW herself, whether true or untrue.
&&&&&&
Unless I'm misunderstanding, you are saying that Kate might have planted the story that she halted his appearance on DWTS. Wouldn't that make her look really bad considering there is a lawsuit in the works? The opposing side could take that information and say that she is sabotaging any means he might have to have some positive cash flow. Why would she want that to come up in deposition?
Her book, called "Love Italian Style..." is an homage the air that occupies her head.
LOL! Love it.
I agree. It seems to require very little culinary knowhow these days to write a cookbook. People who buy a slapped-together primer of recipes from someone who probably spends less time in the kitchen than any other room in the house, have to be just as clueless about cooking as the people who write the books.
I have too much respect for good chefs and cooks who have honed their gastronomical skills to an art to waste my money on talentless pseudos-cooks. Julia Child must be turning over in her grave.
If he wanted to make it about the kids, he should not have very publicly broken his legal agreements. Then, he could have enlisted public sentiment which just might have had some effect on TLC's actions. But, no, he flaunted it. He is, and always has been, his own worst enemy.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
No matter what he does, he is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't. Should have, would have, could have. I'm not sure that seeking the public's approval or what it thought he should have done even entered into it. I imagine this was a really rough time in his life, and he would have received criticism no matter what he did. He made it quite clear that it was all about the kids. Otherwise, he could have gone along with the filming and the money would have kept coming in. No financial worries. Kate would have been as happy as a dog with two tails. But that's not what happened, and he's been paying for it ever since.
I don't get with the ABC connection why she's always on the Today show instead of Good Morning America. Any ideas?
Can't someone on Twitter please tell this person that Kate's recipe for sticky buns is on her website? Kate told her the recipe is in the book, but neglected to tell her that it's on her website.
@Kateplusmy8 wahoo! Can't wait to make them. Now it needs to release so I can make them.
It seems many of the recipes are different to the photographs with more ingredients...whose fault is that? The food stylist, editor or TFW?
The chicken broth with the carcass and just water was incredibly bad- who doesn't add the things shown in the picture for some flavor?
Thanks to those of you checking the book out and reporting here !
Kate is vengeful. Think about it. Didn't Jon complain about Kate's time away from the kids when she did DWTS? Didn't he file for custody?
Who is rewriting history?
Hi guys, I'm a regular reader, but I've never posted. I saw where a couple posters have made mention that Jon was going to be on ET and I just wanted to drop the link to view.
Hey, I'm a Big Brother super fan too LOL. Tonight we say good riddance to the worse season ever!!
http://www.etonline.com/news/138577_Jon_and_Kate_Plus_Eight_s_Jon_Gosselin_Talks_Being_a_Waiter_in_Pennsylvania_Living_in_a_Cabin/index.html
They don't shy away from controversy, but I've never seen them get involved in a controversy that aggressively targets a former talent of theirs. Putting someone on who is surrounded by media buzz due to a sex change is different than putting someone on whose controversy links directly back to a former talent of yours.
______________________________________________
They GOT involved with Leah Remini who is aggressively targeting Scientology and Kirstie Ally is one the most famous people in it. That's not linking directly back to a former talent?? I'd go so far as to say DWTS IS taking sides by having Leah on.
The Scientology debate is HUGE right now. It's also vicious and VERY litigious.
Again, I stand by my assertion that Kate has zero standing with DWTS.
Half their contestants have tried out Scientology at some point.
Katie Couric was on the View this week to talk about the new season of her show. Guess who she DIDN'T mention?
Abc sticks her on the view not gtm. Not sure why but that's where she always ends up in the morning lineup.
Isn't it because of that middle aged doughy bald guy with some pull on The Today Show who has the hots for her? He was always drooling over Kate when she was on the show and did the cheesy behind the scenes with Kate when she was getting her make-up done. Did I get that right?
I'VE WAITED LONG YEARS FOR THIS MOMENT @Kateplusmy8 :P
As a Canadian, this odd young female named Paige embarrasses me. You have to wonder if she will faint, wet her pants a little or get the runs as she approaches the book signing table. Unless of course Kate has a private face to face meeting with Paige and cuts off a lock of her hair to give her.
Looks like Jon is getting HIS side out there first....2nd part of ET interview tomorrow. Interesting...,wonder if people watching her will look at her through a different lens now that Jon is FINALLY speaking up....he says he's not paying child support.....what WILL Milo do if Jon says it's because of Kate and a 50/50 split in custody....how WILL she defend her Queen?!?
Jon's on ET sorry to creepy anyone out but he's looking kind of hot.
Looks like Paige is going to meet KK come hell or high water.
I don't think the blind gossip item was about TFW and Jon. I think it's about Kris Humphrey and that Kim Kardashian made a big stink. The Celtics signed him but I live here in Boston and have heard nothing about or from him since the made the announcement. Not even an appearance at the numerous fundraisers the Red Sox are doing or at Fenway Park.
Just visited my local B&N after work. Had to check out the cookbook section although I was there to purchase work materials. There were five or her crookbooks on the shelf and when I asked the check out person how many were sold today she said zip.
OT, reality tv related.
Survivor starts tonight, I beg of you all, no spoilers please!!!!!
I have a 4:00 am wake-up, and may not watch till Sat or Sun.
Please admin, no more spoilers!!!!!
Thank you from franky, years-long poster.
PS. welcome new names!!! I am going to check out chapters downtown tomorrow, after I actually buy crocs for work, lamp.
Once again ET talks about the "cheating scandal." Ugh...for the love people! TFMJG has said MULTIPLE times the marriage was over before then!!
I don't disagree that TLC's main purpose was to keep filming the kids. But, he broke material agreements that he had, which gave them means to sue him on those grounds.
TLC is a big, bad, greedy network--no disagreement here. I will never understand the decisions they both made to sell their children's childhoods.. Jon signed, not one, but two contracts and should have been fully aware of the limitations on his career, as well as the exclusive access to his children and their images. He knowingly breached his contract, and that is what he was sued for.
No worries Franky. I won't publish any Survivor comments. The Survivor forums and other places to discuss it are vast so those are good places to head if you want to talk about it.
Just watched Jon's interview & he is looking really good. Can't wait to watch rest of it tomorrow, he answers questions about chd support & court case. Lin
Not only that but at least one of those girls was not even his girlfriend but just a friend. I believe that was the teacher. Even Kate herself offered to set the record straight that they were long broken up before, if it would manipulate Hailey into doing what she wanted. Pre-breakup, Jon was desperate to try to get her to do therapy and repair things. She refused or wouldn't do what the therapists asked of her and so they finally broke up, at which point they were both free to do what they wanted.
Why won't she just set the record straight like a decent human being so the children can go on with their lives without their father being labeled a cheater forever?
Noticed Jon said 'protect ME' from this and 'protect ME' from that. How about protecting those children, Jon?
Cookbook report from central Illinois -- Barnes and Nobel had six copies on the shelf. That was the shipment and none have sold.
I flipped through. I agree with the poster who commented that there are some very nice photos inside.
The cover is one of the worst pictures.
I can't wait for part two of Jon's interview tomorrow.
And I'm glad that he's sticking up for himself finally.
________
How can he protect the kids if he doesn't take care of himself first?
And KK is all about mememem so what's the difference?
Jon looks really different. He has freckles. Every single one of his children are his spitting image.
He was talking about the old lawsuit and how he needed money for lawyers. Of course he said to protect "me". He was the one sued, not his children. Sued after he made a bold move to PROTECT his kids. The whole lawsuit was about Jon making that fateful move to protect his children from being on camera during a divorce. If he didn't care about protecting his children, he would have just kept riding the gravy train which even he admits he seemed to enjoy at some point.
In a sense he "won" in that the children did not have to play out the divorce on camera nor did he. They got a very long break to go through it before Kate Plus 8 started up. Mission accomplished on many levels.
He also said he is disgusted by comments that he is just scraping by because he is waiting tables. Maybe he means he is choosing the restaurant industry because he likes it or something. Not sure what he means since he himself has said it's been really tough lately. Maybe he just means those comments are rude, even if it's true. Fair enough.
Jon's motion to dismiss: pdf
If you enter your zip code on the Barnes & Noble site, you can use the drop-down menu on the local store's website to check for availability of TFW's cookbook. You'd have to call or visit, though, to know how many copies they have on hand.
I wonder if TFW watched the interview tonight?
If she did I bet she on the pink phone hollering at her lawyers.
#GOJON
Administrator - If you check TFW's timeline you will see a tweet from Renee Audric (10 min. ago) indicating Jon has filed a motion to dismiss. This will be of particular interest to you.
=====================
If you had signed a contract that gave exclusive access to your children and their images, and subsequently realized that they were being exploited and their privacy compromised in a way that you never could have imagined, would you breach the contract even though you knew a lawsuit would be forthcoming...or would you honor that contract and live with the guilt that you were fully aware of what was happening to your children?
Jon looks really different. He has freckles. Every single one of his children are his spitting image.
How can that be? The sheeple say they all look like Kate!
Fantastic motion to dismiss Jon from attorney Shawn Tuma out of Texas, the same guy who wrote some blogs about why this suit doesn't hold up and is an expert! I am very relieved they had enough sense to ask for this to be dismissed outright and to hire Shawn.
His arguments:
Failure to state a cause of action, allegations are fanciful and conclusory, there is another reasonable and plausible explanation for what occurred, lawsuit if a fishing expedition. Accusations that he is wiretapping have absolutely no proof, statute of limitations on 7 of the 8 claims. They site the article we posted here: "A basic Google search produces numerous results for Plaintiff’s statement by her attorney in 2009 stating her awareness of the allegations now made in this lawsuit and how, at the time, she was “carefully considering all of her legal options regarding this matter, and she [would] pursue them if and when the time is right.”4 This event is not only common knowledge, but is undeniable by Plaintiff." No damages claimed, even if identity theft did occur, they fail to state what was illegally done with the info.
They hit every single one of the arguments we proposed here and came up with a dozen more we never even thought of.
Shawn's complaint is reasoned and rational. It relies on the law, case law and statutes, not emotions. It makes the opening brief seem completely illogical and irrational.
They also ATTACK the stupid part in their brief about how it HAD to be hacking because there's no way Hoffman could have found this much info on the side of the road. LOL, excellent. Finally, he got a decent attorney. They also slam her about the cookbook implying the timing was right because of the cookbook. Good...for...them.
I recognize all these Rule 12b6 cases from law school.
THANK YOU for NOT approving any reality show/ contests comments here! Yay! You never know who won't get to watch it until several days later. Plus, any conversation about it reduces the excitement of watching it completely clueless about what's to come. Thanks.
Stick with Shawn Tuma, Jon. If you do one thing right in this legal mess it's stick with Shawn.
Where did you find that motion? Remember there was a cryptic post here about them getting good representation
