Kate at Baltimore Book Festival

Kate did a short cooking demo at the event this weekend. Here are some clips.

Kate getting a cooking show? Sure, when Bob and Suzie feel like polishing a turd...

Jumping In said... 2

That was an embarrassing to watch, cringe-worthy embarrassing. This proves beyond a shadow of a doubt how she feels that "if I build a salad they will come”

Mel said... 3

"Maybe this wasn't a good idea". You got that right, Katie.
The whole time I saw that clip I kept thinking why aren't they having fun?

I would have fun doing that stuff....IF IT WASN'T BEING FILMED TO SHOW TO THE ENTIRE NATION!

I thought this at the time. How embarrassing, especially as a teen. Here kids, go do this contrived stupid game, and we'll film it, and show it to EVERYONE! Won't that be fun???

Uh, NO. It won't be fun. It's embarrassing. You're making me play stupid kid games, with my siblings no less, and then you're gonna tell everybody?? Please, God, no. Don't make me do this.

And then you're gonna make me wear a stupid shirt that you had made especially for the occasion?? Please, no!

wowser said... 4

wow! she can't keep current lies current while trying to change the old lies at the same time!
ie: My kids LOVE vegetable....but the key is to cut the vegetables into really small pieces so they don't know what's it there!??? huh??

oh and I love this one: I started really young with them to have them try a little bit of something and praise them when they do....I have done that with them since the beginning ie: I KNOW Robert's book tells everyone what I really did...YOU will EAT this or you will get it everyday in your lunchbox until it's gone

wow - she really is nuts! She MADE SALAD AT A COOKING DEMO...nuff said!

Bringing this over from the previous post. Thanks!

I use up hard boiled eggs in tuna salad from time to time. Doesn't bother me, but I don't use eggs as a rule because I think they get lost in there.
How's this for a weird salad combo? Chicken salad with fried oysters!
It's a Philly/Jersey thing.
DH and I came across it on a menu this weekend and I just had to smile thinking about my mom: she LOVED it.
Then again, she adored pickled herring and duck's blood soup too ;-)
Tucker's Mom said... 20
You HAVE to get involved sometimes and help them learn to resolve conflict. Otherwise, the law of the jungle prevails. You have to help them learn to ask themselves the right questions.
******
Jon was always the one seen actually intervening and speaking to each child, getting down on their level and explaining to them rationally and age-appropriately, that their behavior was not acceptable.
Kate just stands there and yells.

Tucker's Mom said... 6

I never remember any crying or hitting or sulking or spitting. I remember lots of giggles and FUN. The whole time I saw that clip I kept thinking why aren't they having fun?
*****
Because they aren't playing organically. They're shuffled out, told what to do for the cameras and then boom, done.
It's unnatural and I think the kids are getting old enough to recognize that it's not normal and that they're performing.

Lalalalala said... 7

If her kids really love vegetables why would she chop them up really small so that they don't know they're there? Nothing she said makes sense.

Terri said... 8

Not only should Kate be embarrassed so should HCI books. She is so obviously in a state of delusion if she thinks a cooking show is in her future.

Tucker's Mom said... 9

We always use hard-boiled eggs in tuna salad, along with celery, parsley flakes, mayo, a little dry mustard and pickle relish. I've never heard of combining egg salad salad with tuna salad, though.
********
I use mustard too- dijon, along with sweet and dill relish, capers and hearts of palm if I have it. My go-to seasoning is oregano, and a few grinds of pepper.
BTW- I recently replaced my pepper grinder with an OXO and I LOVE it!
I'm a pepper monkey now!

I am looking forward to watching the clips...sot of ,lol.

One more comment on the Katie segment.I thought it was interesting they left in so much footage of the fighting etc. Also that Katie's team seemed to be having much more fun than TFW's who all sulked, made faces, said it was not fair, or refused to play. Katie managed to keep the kids in line and be friendly at the same time.

PatK said... 11

Those clips were painful to watch. She has NO stage presence at.all.

Dottie said... 12

Although I'm sorry the kids don't get along, I'm so happy those kids wouldn't perform their little cutesie performing circus monkey routine for the cameras any longer. They are done with it. I hope after this debacle with Katie Couric the word spreads out over TV land not to bother with the Gosselin kids any longer, because in the words of their mother, they are SO OVER IT.

I think they were miserable with Katie because eight kids don't all enjoy the same things. I'm sure Cara and Mady were humiliated being forced to pretend family fun for the cameras. I remember being thirteen and I'd be humiliated playing those stupid games for the cameras like they're four year olds. It's one thing to entertain your younger siblings, it's another thing having your peers watch you carrying eggs on spoons. That's for small children. I wouldn't have enjoyed it at nine and certainly not at thirteen.

And remember, those kids were working. There was an entire film crew on hand with lighting, sound, cameras, PA's, director, etc, etc. This was no family fun day - this was work with all the sitting and waiting you do when you film.

TV World, you're on notice. The Gosselin kids hung up their dancing shoes. They will not perform for you. Go away and leave them alone. Their lives are terrible enough, they don't need you creeps exploiting them.

I think their refusal to go along happily with more exploitation is the healthiest thing about those kids - and I don't mean the fighting, that's very sad. But if that's what it takes to keep the cameras away from them, well so be it.

Thinking TFW might benefit from perusing TLC's "Cooking Tips & Advice."

(Hmmm. Maybe this was, at one time, intended to complement "Twist of Kate.")

Speaking of cooking, for those of us unwashed masses who use and love our cookbooks, my favorite author, Marcella Hazan, died today. She was 90, and her book, Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking, elevated my cooking skills, piqued my interest in authentic Italian food, and upped my "game".
Heaven's going to be eating well today.

By asking about Jon's favorite recipes and what's the worst thing she ever made, I have the sneaking feeling the audience was laughing at her, not with her.
________

I got that impression as well.

OrangeCrusher1 said... 16

Cooking show? Is there a production company willing to work with the Queen of Nastiness? I think not. Besides you actually have to cook on a show, not cut tiny veggies for a salad and open a packet of dressing. What a joke. And now the traveling circus goes to Canada.

It is a shame that the children interact with each other so poorly. Of course they live in the shadow of a raging lunatic, are probably encouraged to play off each other and other than friends at school, monly interact with each other. Familiarity often breeds contempt. No neighborhood kids, no cousins, hardly ever have friends to the house, nope, just the constant ingrown squabbling. It must be really hard to live that way.

gotyournumberKate said... 17

Well now, that was an original recipe. Not. She just thinks no matter what she does or how mediocre it is, it's great because she did it. Moron.

chefsummer #Leh said... 18

It does seem that the kids don't respect Kate especially Maddy .

But why should they Kate as a mother doesn't respect their need for a quite private life she doesn't respect their need for privacy either.

Layla said... 19

I am so glad you got these! As I said, I arrived late and missed the whole salad portion, plus some of the Q&A.. It was just her, propping up the book and yammering. I missed the part about Jon's favorite meal, but as I said, it was hard to hear the questions. and parts of her answers. I heard the "I've been divirced for 4 years" part, but not what she said before it. I was in the back, on the left hand side, stanidng at that time. Most of what I really was able to see was he signing afterwards, and I think that was far more interesting than listening to her drone on.

I did see someone with a camera, and the segment with BB was also taped. If there is any way to get BB's segment up, it would be so neat to be able to compare/contrast the two. He was so animated, cooking, talking, delivering food to the audience. Huge diffeence. If it's possible, can you also post his? Just to see the difference in presentations and personalities..

I need to watch all of these and see if I can spot Mrs Green Pants. .

I like how she can't even form a coherent sentence. "My kids like vegetables, but I find if you chop them up really small, they won't even know they're in there." If your kids like vegetables, then why do you need to chop them up small?

&&&&

Exactly Chef and we've said it before but it bears repeating. That's exactly why. These kids are not respected. They've never been respected. They've been disrespected since they were babies. They have been raised in a culture of use and abuse and disrespect and no boundaries, and it is no surprise that this is how they have learned to get by and treat others. This is a lifestyle for them. I feel terrible for them.

AuntieAnn said... 22

"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day."

WOW! Give that woman a cooking show. What's the hold up?

capecodmama said... 23

Kate wants you to chop your chicken finely for the salad. Huh? Since when do you chop chicken finely for a salad, stew, soup or anything. You want to be able to taste the chicken so she should've said to chop the chicken into bite size pieces. If you make it for kids, you chop it into bite size for them. What a dope. She also wants you to chop your vegetables finely so your kids don't know they're getting vegetables. Again, huh? If they're so fine the kids don't know they're eating vegetables, I'm assuming your kids aren't getting any nutrients out of them either. Why bother. With regard to the dressing, she's taking about packets again. Any cook worth their salt, would never use a dressing out of a bottle or packet. They would make their own.

Tucker's Mom...Agree. She's not getting a cooking show anytime soon.

With regard to how she looks, one work comes to mind: Bobblehead.

Formerly Duped said... 24

Alexis was making quite the mockery faces during the tug-o-war at her mother while she was speaking.Cara also seems not to jump at TFW's every word either.Kate wrote in her IJWYTK book that Collin did not 'obey." I don't know that any of the kids have respect for her, and maybe they are losing fear, one by one...I think Hannah ( the spitter) and Leah, are the last supporters of their mother.

New post at Gosselinbook.
http://gosselinbook.blogspot.com/
It reminds me of that quote that goes something like "It's better to keep your mouth shut and be thought of as a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt".
It just never ceases to amaze me that Kate thinks she's a "natural" with the gift of gab. She looked so uncomfortable, with all the ums and ahhs and hand flapping.
And does she self-flagellate when she makes a mess in the kitchen? Whack herself with the Spanker? Or is that reserved for the kids' "granules"?

kifs first said... 27

Throw in being spoiled with material things and ever-changing baby sitters with varying discipline methods and it is no wonder they act the way they do.

Winsomeone said... 28

Paula said... 29

""This is really how I cook, it may be sloppy and horrible but Oh well."

#1 - making a salad is not "cooking".
#2 - when trying to sell a cookbook once should never refer to their cooking skills as "horrible".

She's so, so lost and clueless.

Gigi B said... 30

Under the penalty of severness, only chop the salad. Never tear it.

JoyinVirginia said... 31

What Would Brian Boitano Make? That's what I want to know!

Ingrid said... 32

I don't think Kate knows how to get along with people who disagree with her so she doesn't know how to teach the kids to resolve conflicts.

What has she done with her own conflicts that we have seen/heard of? She has no contact with parents, shrieked and threw fits when Jon pissed her off and eventually got him as far out of her life as possible, argued with Tony til he was ready to quit, fired many help and volunteers, removed or drove friends out of her life like Beth, Ashley, Jodie.

I hope those kids stay close throughout their life but with the example they have grown up with I worry that they won't. (unless Jon's influence helps). It could affect their future relationships too.

Layla said... 33

If you watch the second video, you can see how the cooking tent and the signing tent were set up. The camera pans to the lady in the gray t-shirt, and you can see the open front of a tent right behind her. That was the signing tent. You could see into it if you were in the back of the seating area and you leaned back. The area in front was where Steve was mingling with her fans.
If you watch after the lady in the gray t-shirt asks her question, and the camera pans back to the front--there is Steve in his blue suit, standing against the tent wall. He was always quite a distance away from her. How was he protecting her when he was never right by her?

Berks Neighbor said... 34

Did anyone else feel as uncomfortable watching these video vignettes as I did? She just doesn't have that spark and looked unprepared and unskilled. The way she holds her elbows at her chest and flaps her french manicure around reminded me of a do-do bird attempting to fly.
Her thought process when she answered questions seemed to go off on a rabbit trail and then you can see where she tries to bring up some catch-word like "nutritious".

Just awkward and uninspiring. Sorry - not Sorry.

Jumping In said... 35

Her "demonstration" was embarrassing, cringe-worthy embarrassing. She shot down the question about Jon's favourite food, by reminding the questioner that she has been divorced for FOUR years. But wait, ask her about my messy divorce on Bethenny and she will happily comply!

She actually believed, "if I build a salad, they will come”. What an insult to the people sitting there waiting for Brian Boitano to appear.

LaLaLandNoMore said... 36

The kids have been used since before they were born. Still happening and not even in a subtle way. Noticed all the "my kids" and the "ums". Selfish and no self-awareness is still a good description of TFW. She could certainly take lessons from her local neighbors on how to really cook.

JR said... 37

Thought she was gonna hurt herself with all that hand flapping going on. What does the answer to the first question mean...something about her being divorced for 4 years. That made no sense at all. I didn't get the connection but...O.K.

The link goes to her FB page, but you have to have a FB account to see it. She doesn't include Kate in the tweet, so how are Kate's tweeties supposed to see it. BTW, there are a couple of radio interviews added, and looks like one more TV appearance.

Meanwhile, HCI does not have it listed on their FB page, nor did they tweet about it. Their only tweet is in response to a fan:

Ah poor sweetie sheeple, coming with flowers and gifts for the children. Flowers will be in the nearest trash can on her way out the door, gifts left in her hotel room. TFW only accepts gift cards, Chipotle would be preferred.

And she does not tolerate food dislikes. So nice that she has no children with real allergies, or gluten/dairy intolerance. Well maybe she does, too bad for them. My little grandboys do not like all foods - we offer a variety, they eat what they like, and are encouraged to have a bite of everything. That woman is a horrible control freak, and some of those kids are heading towards a life of eating disorders.

Maybe the Canada tour is because those folks are not as familiar with her as we are? Anyway, "Love is in The Mix" was first written while she was still MARRIED to Jon. All she did was basically update the book with some photos. She LIED when she said the cookbook was composed of meals that only she and her kids liked. She darn well remembers what Jon liked for a meal. I remember he really drooled over those honey buns she made for Xmas morning (supposedly a tradition). Is that recipe in the crookbook? I got to wonder if she even really made those at this point. After all, the Xmas was fake.

BTW, because of her blister, do you think she sent Stevie out to find her some flip flops and flats to wear?

And I finally watched the Katie Couric clips. Plenty of editing. Mady refused to join in the hula hoop competition and Kate didn't even try. My God, is she the only person in the world who has never used a hula hoop? Maybe she can't keep it up because she has no hips, LOL.

And that pizza was undercooked. The dough was white. Yuk.

The You Tube clips were awful. She embarrassed herself. HCI will be glad to be rid of her in a few days. Can't wait to see what the grand total of books sold will be by Xmas. I wonder what her excuse will be for failing on this venture? She is so pathetic always begging for a TV show.

And by the looks of it they were working after a full 8-9 hour school day. I've said it for years...those kids lives must be miserable.

And I want to add that I could only watch 2 of those YouTube videos before I had to stop. And even on the second one I was tuning out about 45 seconds into it and had to stop. She just grates on my nerves with the way she speaks. She can't form a proper sentence without and ummmm or an uhhhh in it and then goes off on short incoherent thoughts that relate nothing to the question asked or topic at hand.

If she is ever offered a cooking show then I hope pigs are flying by my window.

Maybe that's why she calls the book Love is in the MIX lol

Isn't there at least one Korean recipe in the cookbook? Of course she would not give Jon the credit. And Jon was around for the flag cake, Nana Janet's Roast, Thomas Hummus, the onion & tomato w/pita salad, Grandma Soup and her famous meatloaf- she said he particularly like sandwiches from meatloaf leftovers on the talk show where she made it.Divorce has nothing to do with the question asked.

On the first video, there is the beginning of her answer about the broiler, but it cuts off. She said that with 8 kids, she has to announce when the broiler is on. Why? The broiler is inside the oven. Does she think the kids are going to open the oven door and stick their heads in? It just made no sense at all. And you can see from these videos how much she had to struggle to come up with answers. These were not difficult questions. So strange.
The guy holding up a flyer in front of his face was too funny! I definitely got the impression that the husbands weren't as thrilled to be there as the wives. That clip illustrates it perfectly!

You Are Only Looking Out For Yourself, Look Out!

Is your favorite letter "I"? The cause of most of our problems is "I", no matter how we spell it. Change your favorite word from "I" to "You". The truth is, no one makes it on their own. Don't become a legend in your own mind. Conceit makes us fools. The book of Proverbs reminds us, "Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him." The man who believes in nothing but himself lives in a very small world. The best way to be happy is to forget yourself and focus on other people. The only reason pride lifts you up is to let you down. A swelled head always proves there is plenty of room for improvement. Even postage stamps become useless when they get stuck on themselves. Egotism is the only disease where the patient feels well while making everyone else feel sick. Those who sing their own praises seldom receive an encore. I think that people who are deeply in love with themselves should get a divorce. The man who only works by himself and for himself is likely to be corrupted by the company he keeps. When you find yourself on a high horse, the best thing to do is dismount at once. You can't push yourself forward by patting yourself on the back. The higher you go in life, the more dependent you become on other people. Work together with others. Remember the banana: every time it leaves the bunch it gets peeled and eaten. Freckles would make a nice tan, if they would just get together. Few burdens are heavy when everyone lifts...

You know, when you think about it, you could actually really feel sorry for her. She's so awkward at everything she does--you can tell from the way she holds her body and the things that she says that she's uncomfortable (anyone ever notice how she oddly she tends to hold her thumb in the still pics of her?). Every single thing about her is phony and although she appears to be delusional at times, deep down she knows the truth.

Why the need to so fake about everything? Clearly no matter how much she behaves like an entitled diva, she has no real self-esteem. It must be very hard to feel so profoundly like nothing and no one that every single aspect of yourself that you present to the world is a total fabrication.

'typically' eat there or just perches to gulp her salad. Not all the kids there for Mommy's Cooking Show. I think this segment speaks volumes on 'life after reality,' more than perhaps intended. TFW said it would be chaos if she did not lay down the law- well, it IS chaos anyhow.

She's going to have to really polish that magic lantern hard to get her very own cooking show. I know it worked for everything else she ever demanded, but she actually has to HAVE the skills to pull off a 30 minute program about cooking. She's dead in the water right there. Does she even watch Next Food Network Star to see what it entails?
Her kids endorsement of her meals isn't worth diddly squat. She said she doesn't tolerate their refusal to eat something so that's further proof she makes them eat her slop whether they like it or not.

And if she's so into the whole science of cooking why doesn't she enroll in a culinary institution? Learn something about the subject before you go in front of people and make a complete fool of yourself. Go get a job as a line cook in a restaurant and see what it's all about. Start from the bottom up, wash some dishes, peel some potatoes, mop that floor at 2 in the morning. She knows NOTHING.

She may not be embarrassed for herself but I sure am. Cringe-worthy is right.

After watching her knife skills on the video I'm surprised that she's got all her fingers! As discussed on the other thread the kids on Master Chef Junior can cook circles around her. The only cooking show she'll get is if she starts her on youtube channel.

******************************************

I wish. Unfortunately, many of us are just as familiar with Kate, as we are The Little Couple, Honey Boo Boo and the Kardashians, as our southern neighbours.

I suspect there is not as much contempt for her up here though. We are indifferent lot, more prone to shrugging our shoulders and saying meh about things like this.

That being said, it's also true that the story of the Dionne quints is very much a part of our national psyche and it possible is that those who are paying attention, feel a special sympathy for the Gosselin kids.

I dunno, either way, I'm none to impressed that anyone on our side of the border is giving her the time of day.

this is one of those situations where beauty is in the eye of the beholder. the acoustics in the tent weren't that great, you can tell. she did manage to talk while doing something. that's why challenging than you think until you actually try to do it. I'm sure the fans of TFMJG were excited to see her and loved her. those who are not fans probably thought MEH because compared to the next speaker she was dull and boring. she didn't fall apart during her presentation so that was okay. it was just ok.
of course I don't care one way or the other enough to give a detailed critique. I have always found the voice irritating.

Silimom said... 70

Just watched the Katie interview, or rather the clip at Kate's home. First off, I'd say half of the kids (Collin, Joel, Cara and Mady) did not look all that thrilled to have Katie there.

I have to say I really hate it when adults talk down to kids. I thought Katie Couric was treating them like they were 3 year olds when she walked into the house. Big smile, bending down, drawn out "Hi.....!!! How...are...you...???" Kate really did seem sort of out of it or at least didn't seem all that thrilled that they were there either. She definitely didn't like the idea of the field games - did you see her grimace?

I have to commend the boys and Cara. They worked well as a team, listened to Katie and seemed to be having fun. Kate's team? Not so much. The girls were whiny when they didn't win, one definitely was mocking somebody, whether it was Kate or Mady I couldn't be sure and the way that they were all talking over each other was astounding. The boys and Cara were definitely better behaved.

When does Aaden get braces I wonder?

Oh, my, painful doesn't begin to describe it. She can't talk. I would have thought the um, um, um, um, would have gotten better by now, but it's worse. I wonder if she ever listens to herself, or if anyone has ever told her how bad it is. She has no self-awareness. Pathetic.

I watched most of Kate's and most of Brian's videos.

Brian is comfortable in front of an audience. It also appears that he spent some time thinking (may rehearshing?) what to say and engage the audience. He knows his way around the kitchen. The knife just seemed natural in his hand.

Kate on the other hand, looked like she was lost and going through the motions, making up dialogue as she went along. It was a salad for heavens sake. How hard is that to make?

I agree with a poster up-thread, Kate is embarrasing to watch.

Millicent said... 73

Thank you for posting these clips. I will say that TFW didn't do as horribly as I expected, in that she seemed to give some answer to every question, tried to smile at the audience, and so forth. Of course, her actual presentation was very poor. Too many "ums" and in general, just boring. As to having 50 chickens - why do they have so many? Is she selling eggs on the side? Because during peak laying season, that's close to 50 eggs per day, and even with all 9 of them eating, no way would they be able to eat all those eggs.

Agreed that Kate's pasta salad, complete with chopped egg and chicken (two proteins? really?), sounded rather unpleasant. I might use one or the other in a regular lettuce-based salad, but probably not both.

Pasta salad is so easy too - why use that in a cooking demonstration. Cook pasta and let cool. Chop up various wonderful fresh veggies (I use red bell pepper, shredded carrot, green olives, small cubes of cheddar cheese, and finely sliced green onions), and add to pasta. Top with your choice of dressing. I love Paul Newman's Balsamic, so that's what I use. Bing - you're done. It's not really cooking. The only thing I cooked was pasta in boiling water.

She received more questions than I expected. She clearly has some fans. But not enough to make her cook book a success, and certainly not enough to garner her own cooking show. Every time she repeats the lie about her children lining up at the counter and calling it "Mommy's Cooking Show!" I just shake my head. Who does she think she's kidding?

For example, the answer she gave about her kids wanting to cook her recipes when they are mommies themselves. She even did the same stupid imitation like what her kids would sound like that she did on her teevee tour. Super irritating. Why couldn't I have been in that audience? Why oh why.
Kate, please get your people to send you to the west coast of BC. I will be in the audience. I promise. I will take a vacation day to be there. And I will have a nice juicy question to ask you. So, so juicy. About your book of course.

There's got to be some incredible piecing going on there, and I'd love to know her secret.

Whenever I do demo's I practice my talk quite a few times, so that it rolls naturally off the tongue. I try to change the little stories/jokes up so each session hears something a little different. And certainly not what they heard the last time I offered it.

As opposed to TFW, who has been saying the exact same phrases for the last 8 YEARS. We all know about the dead grandma, the 50 chickens, mommy's cooking show, her chaotic house, her 8 kids, Jon's a deadbeat dad, she hates him.

Because I've practiced what I'm saying/doing it doesn't look like I've never done it before..thinking of that huge knife she about to stab herself with.

She even admitted in one of the interviews that she doesn't use kitchen utensils correctly. Ain't she cute??

Silimom said... 102

It was interesting to watch her clips. As I go through the book, the biggest issues I'm finding I have are 1) her instructions and 2) the pictures which don't match the recipe. If I were a casual fan who happened to be browsing in my local B&N and happened upon her book, I might get it for the pictures of her food alone. The food photographer did a great job but those pictures are interpretations of her recipes, which doesn't surprise me as the food photographer is also a chef and has worked on Giada's show. I'm sure she looked at the recipe, figured out what it was that Kate was trying to do and fixed it to make it look more presentable.

As for her "Sizzlin' Summer Salad", she has you add 2 (4 oz) cans of white albacore tuna, flaked and 2 large hard boiled eggs which you chop before adding them in.

I agree with whomever said eggs, fine or (I think it was) chicken, fine, or even tuna, fine, but not eggs and a meat.

The Dionne quintuplets were negatively affected by the exposure they were given and the quality of their adult lives suffered. The exploitation of the Gosselins is on a much bigger scale due to the reality show/internet factors. Sadly, TFW won't let it go.

That's where TFW was sitting through almost all of BB's demo (she left just before he finished). All there was between them was that tent wall. She couldn't hear him? If she bothered to step out from behind her little table, say to pose for pictures or mingle with her fans, she would had seen him, but of course she stayed behind her table. Steve was watching some of the demo before he and TFW left. She knew he was there.

Boy those clips are almost unwatchable. The ums again. You would think someone talking about their so called passion for cooking, would be more relaxed and animated and be able to just talk your ear off. She acts so uncomfortable in front of an audience and camera for someone who claims that is her future "career". Maybe the tunic was her way to try and copy something from The Pioneer Woman. I guess it's better than her boobs hanging over a bowl, but PW has the nicest tops and not all of them are terribly expensive and the messy hair and the same pants she's worn all week? I didn't really hear the questions in the beginning about Jon, she she just HAD to go on about being divorced for 4, count em 4 years. She could have just said, he liked my cooking. PERIOD. Any why does she have to go on about having 8 kids. There has not been one sign of improvement in her speaking ability in any of her recent appearances. The kids have been in school full time for years, why doesn't someone tell her to take some public speaking classes. Her handlers are failing her by just kissing her butt with no constructive criticism. Someone needs to give her a loving kick in the butt. I hope she spends some time with her devoted Canadian fan. It wouldn't kill her to take them to lunch. This girl and her boyfriend are spending lots of money to meet her, hotel room and a few nights gas, food, manicures, new shoes, time away from work. Kate has no appreciation for the lil folk. I hope she makes her meeting special.

I took my car in for service and maintenance today, and the bill was out of sight. It had to be done, though. I was thinking about Kate having to piece and patch but still is able to afford those three cars...fuel, maintenance, insurance. Her next gig should be a blog (or a show) called "Piecing and Patching." I bet there are many who would be interested in how an unemployed person can piece and patch enough to be able to afford three cars. There's got to be some incredible piecing going on there, and I'd love to know her secret.
______
I looked at Twitter over the weekend and saw Schmeck telling a WOS fan that at least Jon was paying his own way, WOS was living off those kids. The fan just didn't get it.

Schmeck noted there would have been no show without the kids. Fan noted there would be no kids without WOS?? WTF?!

So WOS could have gotten a TV gig without having sextuplets? Go figure.

She's had menial 'work' since K+8 was canceled. Where do they think the money is coming from to keep that house, three cars, school, medical bills, 20 hour help, lawn boys, pool boys, etc?

Her fans are truly delusional if they think WOS is making enough money each month to pay the bills and not dipping into the kids' accounts.

Hey, remember, Kate always said, that her kids fight their own battles, she never refs, break up fights, let them fight it out. That is why 2 got kick out of school. Wrong thing to do.
kate also, still portions out the food, the kids don't get to pick. It's you eat what's on your plate or you get nothing or you eat it for next meal. I think why Kate finely chops veggies is cause, Kate still thinks of her kids as 4-6 year olds.

And why she puts egg in the tuna salad, or whatever that dish was is cause, like she said one time on Twitter: I put eggs into just about everything, cause we have so much eggs. With 50 chickens you will get a lot of eggs.

I watch the first 2 clips, could not watch anymore.

Had TFW's publisher known and then told TFW, she could have made signed books available for purchase thru B&N. (I didn't even know this was an option until today when I was looking at PW and TFW's sales rankings.)

At B&N:
PW's sales rank is #88 and #89 (signed and unsigned) and it's still not published plus she's not done tv, radio, or signings & demos yet.
TFW's is ranked #34,842 (I checked this horrible ranking # 3 times, but that's what their site says)

At Amazon:
PW's sales rank is #91
TFW's sales rank is #1,686

When TFW did her cooking segment on Good Morning America, Jon was with her. She made meatloaf and said it was Jon's favorite. In fact, she said when planning her weekly menus it was always "and meatloaf". She said meatloaf sandwiches were a regular thing. Yes, meatloaf is in her cook book.

LaLaLandNoMore said... 147

TFW is so used to the easy money she (they) made in previous years that she has failed to realize that to stay relevant they may have needed a few lessons in public speaking, culinary, money management, child psychology, etc. or anything to improve their lot in life without staying on tv reality programming. Goes to show TFW cannot be told anything. I believe she is one of the biggest "know it all" types I have ever seen. Cannot tell her or advise her because "she wrote the book."

As with many daytime talk shows, Marilyn Denis started out with a much more serious-minded program. She had on professional guests, such as child psychologists, health professionals, authors etc. Currently, her show is more celebrity based, fashion trends, decorating etc., so......light and fluffy now.

Marilyn Denis is likeable, a good listener and has interviewing skills. Having said that, all those around TFW seem to lose their ability to ask a hard, challenging question. I am not holding my breath that we will hear anything new on any of her Canadian show appearances, one can only hope.

The one thing TFW and Marilyn Denis have in common is Botox, and plenty of it.

But back on topic, Kate not only has no pizazz when she makes public appearances, her physical appearance is concerning. She must have an eating disorder. She looks way too thin. Her bones stick out too much. Having seen what she looked like at the beginning of the show (a healthy weight) she looks starved now.

I wonder, they say that eating disorders can develope in people who feel they have no control in their regular lives but they can control one aspect and that is how much food they eat.

Could Kate, who is a control freak, be feeling things in her life are out of control so she is controlling how much or how little she eats?

Ummm...Help me understand, please. If BB went on right after her and Steve was watching his presentation, then how on earth did she not know he was there? Also, if she wanted to meet him, why didn't she just wait until his demo and then say a quick "Hello! I'm Kate Gosselin. Your presentation was great! I know you need to get to your fans, but I wanted to give you a copy of my book as I'm a fan too. Good luck!"

&&&&

And the crazy thing is Brian seems very open to her, non-judgemental, and didn't HE reach out to her FIRST? He is in the same field as her, he would be a great friend. And heck maybe he might even had some ideas for how they might team up at some point on something. There she was just yards away from him and could have chatted with him right there and then. Opportunity BLOWN.

I think she's ENVIOUS of anyone else encroaching on her field. She wanted it to be the Kate show. Brian and anyone else there was a threat. When she saw he was actually reaching out to her and seemed to like her, she had to back peddle and pretend she wasn't seething at anyone else doing what she wanted to do.

I watched the video clips of Kate and I cannot believe how awful they were. I watch cooking shows all the time because I love to cook. She was uncomfortable, and all of her "ums" (seemed like every other word) just proved that after all of this time, she hasn't learned how to speak in public and present a good image.

As for her salad, she chopped up one or two eggs and only one chicken breast that I saw. That would not be enough for my hubs, much less both of us. I certainly hope she puts in more chicken breasts when she's making it for the kids! I don't know, maybe one chicken breast per kid!?!

Anyhow, not to be cruel because I don't like her, but I was not impressed at all. Not with her recipes or her performance. She really needs to find another career.

While a 'nationally' syndicated show, it is only shown on the CITY brand TV stations in major Canadian Cities. Marilyn is on CHUM FM radio morning show and has been for as long as I can remember. She has also had a few different shows on CITY throughout the years.

Whomever made the comment about botox, OMG ... I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw her new show, she barely resembles the woman she was. I hate, hate, hate that puffy, shiny, smooth fake look that seems to be the rage now.

And this is what her husband said about the book:

"Ann Romney's cookbook "The Romney Family Table" comes out tomorrow. Proceeds going to the Center for Neurologic Diseases at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. Couldn't be prouder of my sweetheart "

Love them or hate them, Ann has the right idea. She is donating the procedes. Good for her.

She plans on being at the booksigning as well; I just hope she manages to get her copy of the cookbook signed without having to buy another one at the bookstore.

Amen to that. They get left behind at the venue. When fans would bring flowers, we'd put them on a table in the hospitality room and leave them there with a note to the next performer and crew to enjoy, or we gave them to local crew members to take home. Nobody wants to bother with flowers on a long car (or bus ride).

I hope someone tells the young fan that flowers are not a good idea and they more than likely will end up in the trash. Same goes with food. Don't take candy or cake or any other food item. It will get dumped.

Is Kate "expanding" her tour? Will she get to Milo's area? I really wish it would happen. I'd be looking forward to Milo's excuse not to meet her. Would be fun to see what she comes up with!

LBelle (152): If it's not too far, go! A report would be interesting. Thanks to Layla for her observations at the book fair. Did you find Mrs. Green Pants in the video? I'm waiting for my son to get home and bored.

I took a good long look at the kids appearance on the Katie Couric show. I noticed a few things.

- Cara hid behind Kate so she wouldn't be on camera when they welcomed Katie C. in the front door

- Kate had a fake plastered on smile directed at the 3 young girls sitting there while Kate C. was rolling the dough. This was Kate's way to get her youngest 3 to *smile* for the cameras. Only one of the girl obliges and has a ridiculous, totally fake smile on her face. Not sure which girl but it wasn't Hannah. She was almost MOCKING her mother by smiling so fake.

-Alexis(?) and Collin are sitting SOOO sadly off towards the wall with Mady standing behind them. It appears they got in trouble because Aaden and Leah(?) are smiling from ear to ear.

- there are written instructions on top of one of the fishbowls

- it appears there are no blinds on the windows in the family room. That would make me feel so exposed.

- other than what others noticed about the 'chore chart' I also saw 'Sweep the garage daily' WTF? WHO does that?

- cupcakes were served after the pizza; wonder if they were provided by Katie C.'s people or by those cupcake ladies in DC. Anyway, Mady is taking a picture of hers with her iphone.

- the camera zooms in on Aaden eating his cupcake. LMAO (not at Aaden but the reason behind them doing this)

- when Katie C. asks the kids if they fight a lot, Hannah, standing behind Collin and Alexis(?), looks directly at the camera and nods her head while pointing at Collin and Alexis(?). Clearly, these two are the black sheep.

...more to come...yes, I do need a life. LOL

I agree with the poster above who said TFW's kids should be cooking with her and not relegated to pretending she's doing a cooking show. My 5 1/2 year old grandson has been cooking with me for a couple of years now. I give him simple tasks to do and he loves it. If I start without him, he says, "Mimi wait for me." It`s not boring. It`s an entire course in psychology. :)

Now that you brought it up, my first impressions of the Couric show piece were that:

Both Mady and Cara were annoyed at getting trotted out to perform for the cameras AGAIN (aww Mom, when are you going to stop making us do this?) and the little girls seemed slightly more enthusiastic about meeting the rehearsed "oh look, Katie Couric is at the front door!" (Scene 2/Take 5) than the boys.

Oh you nailed it. The book fair wasn't exclusively about her anymore and she hates it. Could it be it is just now dawning on her that there are other people in the universe besides her? If so, how dare they?

I will up the ante and bet not once did she question her own performance in front of those people. No introspection whatsoever. This was an intrusion. Ergo her tweet to Brian She may as well have said "come into my web, I will befriend you and then eat you alive".

What would Brian Boitano do....with TFW' s cook book? Browse through it for dinner ideas? Browse through it for laughs? Trash it?

I dont know Admin..TFW has a lot going on right now, even Layla said that TFW was sitting at the table by herself, not doing much of anything, and that may have been when she was sending out those tweets. Steve watched, but not Kate.

It would depend, but my narcissist would not have really cared to know who was right before or after her unless soemone pointed out to her that she should care, and should pay attention.

BB was male, if it had been a beautiful female , then I might think she would have been paying attention, but this time around, I really dont think TFW was paying that close attention. She was more focused on why she wasnt getting the adulation she thought she should be having and.... the lawsuit.

The picture I have in my mind right now of how well TFW is coping, is the video of TFW and Steve in the back of that limo, and TFW is having to make a decision about whether she will practice dancing or not...TFW was a ball of tears and self pity because JOn was suing her for custody of her kids.

That is who I think TFW is right now....

I doubt she had a clue who Brian Boitano was. He doesn't matter unless he's there to bring her water, tote her satchels or give her a massage.
Otherwise he's some guy who did something at the book fair, but what it was doesn't matter because it doesn't involve her. Some wannabe New York Best Selling author.

Gosh...giving demo's....I always look at the schedule to see who's on before and after me. Just in case I need to adjust what I'm saying cuz they've already said the exact same thing, or something. Who knows. There's always something that can go awry there and it helps to be aware.

Oh I don't think TFW has to worry about someone saying or doing the exact thing she is doing. um um um I don't think that will be the reason for things going awry for her. It will be the fact her sham of whatever career she chooses will be uncovered. She really needs to find one thing she is good at and hone that skill. She can scratch off running, cooking, writing, couponing, acting, speaking, nursing, health guru, and apparently parenting Until then ......

Milo/Kate, if Paige turns out to be a real, as in a young girl fan, please tell KG to be nice to her and don't hurt her feelings. Paige may have everyone fooled, but it appears she really, really loves you and looks up to you KG, as a Mother, not just as a stah.

Good luck Paige!

After doing the math today, don't see how she has broke even yet with her sales, unless HCI is paying for all of the tour dates? Someone is losing a lot of $$$, unless there is something no one knows about going on behind the scenes.

Anyone else think this tour is costing more than the profit, or am I adding wrong?

OT slightly, but I always chuckle when we talk about "my narcissist" as if they are like pet Gremlins. . . You have to follow strict rules when you've got one or they will go out of control. 1. Don't let them out in the light (spotlight in Kate's case), 2. Don't get them wet (don't rain on their parade) and 3. Don't feed them after midnight (don't allow yourself to become their narcissistic supply).
