Morty, 91, and Lee Kaufman, 90, are not actors reading a script. They are a real couple from New York. Their daughter knew a casting agent for Swiffer and recommended them for a series of commercials. The couple was cast right away and a film crew was sent over to their home for a two-day shoot. The footage that followed was so adorable and funny they became an overnight sensation. From Morty's "be careful, babe" as Lee steps on a stool to clean with their old mop (aww), to his deadpan "I don't do any cleaning; I make dirt," to their impromptu dances together in the kitchen, to their mutual amazement at how much dirt their new Swiffer mop picks up, this couple has stolen America's hearts.
Lee is a retired teacher and Morty is a retired pharmacist. The Kaufman's love story is just as sweet as it looks. Both widowed young in their early 40's. They met and fell in love when Morty's son Scott was in Lee's summer reading class. They married on Valentine's Day, and they say their respective total of six children blended together well. Morty said the secret to their long marriage is compromise and giving in. "No difference of opinion is that important as to interfere with your love for each other," Morty said.
As for what they think of all this publicity? Morty says people stop them for autographs. "We're having so much fun," he said. Lee said, "It's all very exciting."
1410 sediments (sic) from readers:
«Oldest ‹Older 801 – 1000 of 1410 Newer› Newest»I expected the negative reviews to be all screed, but most are not. These reviewers speak directly to what's wrong and insufficient in the book, pointing to poor editing and instructions, lack of precise measurements, photos not representative of the dish with ingredients shown not included and of course, the glaring disconnect between Kate's self-touted healthy and organic cooking with the myriad of processed products used in her recipe.
That, and of course the fact that Kate's using her kids to make money once again and somehow managed to wrangle a deal to get this hybrid cook book printed when it's padded with well-known, seen before photos and family memes.
"50 Shades of Grey" received THOUSANDS of negative comments on Amazon.

Kate has clearly violated their policy. Why doesn't this scare HCL and Kate even?
It's brazen, really.
reader: well, IMO it was poorly written, having come from fan fic based on Twilight. Also it was a 'first' of its kind , while a popular bestseller. I don't think it was for everyone, although many people read it out of curiosity You couldn't go on the train without seeing people reading it! I also think the movie will be panned. But a box office hit!
Someone tweeted TFW ..."My husband actually ate tuna thanks to @Kateplusmy8 Mac & cheese, tuna and peas recipe!! YUM-O"

WOW! If that doesn't say it all . . . Smackdown by Kraft. I would be crawling into my dog's crate right now and hiding if I was TFW. Someone please give her a rag to wipe the cheese, er, I mean egg, off her face.

When I see things that Milo posts, I wonder what TFW has to do in order for her to see how she is. Does she have to admit the journals are real and she abused her kids? Does she had to admit that Jon had nothing to do with the internet bullies? What will it take?
Nothing. It would never happen. Kate could be convicted of a DUI and perhaps a more serious offense, and Milo and her minions would say that Kate was under stress because bullies sabotaged her cookbook, and of course, it was all Jon's fault. They would never in a million years admit that Kate is to blame for anything. When you are that far into Celebrity Worship Syndrome, I wonder if there really is any cure, other than total invention/de-programming. It would take a mental health professional to do the job.
I found this to be interesting from allrecipes's website regarding the useage of their recipes. Kate is publishing the cake recipe for her own profit, yes? She changed 2 ingredients to make it her own but no way she 'developed' it. She would have had to know the amounts & what was needed to make the cake rise & bake.

Pioneer Woman Cooks": approximately 40 to 50 negative reviews on Amazon. These did not stop it being on the NY Times best seller list
I wonder if these publishers that put out cookbooks, if they run the material through plagiarism checker software to see if any red flags pop up.
If you look at even some of the best books of all time they all have bad reviews. The Road, for example, is regarded as a modern classic. 346 1 star reviews. Bad reviews come with the territory and doesn't mean you can't be a wild success.
In some ways, you don't necessarily want all 5 star reviews. It makes it look like it's just your friends or family leaving reviews or something. A few bad reviews give your book credibility.
Pioneer Woman also has some quite elaborate, and at certain times pretty funny, hate sites. She has HATE, there is no question about it. Yet she does just fine.
This Milo person reminds me so much of my MIL. She is relentless like a fly that buzzes around you. You swat it but it won't go away. They both cant take a hint. They give unsolicited advice. Both dont seem to have social cues when it comes to appropriate comments and when to shut up. I think Milo and my MIL need to meet for lunch. I can't imagine what it's like to live with that Milo pest.

Changing ingredients is "modifying," and according to their policy, it is a violation to do this. She published it for commercial use and profit. I wonder if they know this. Is it possible she got permission to do this?
Even if you used a recipe off the internet & changed 1 or 2 thing and with all the duplicate or modified recipes floating around---someone said Hersery also had the recipe on their website---you should ask for permission first. Now that people are starting to find the some of the same recipes already posted on a company's website (someone also said 1 was a combination of 2 allrecipes recipes), can you still call it your own recipe?

On amazon you can easily go down the list of cookbooks, or enter into other "How To" genre of celeb books, there are ALWAYS negative reviews, and LOTS of them. It doesn't stop people from buying.
There was not enough interest in TFW or the book.
I am willing to bet most of the buyers were teen girls wanting to see updated photos of the children. Teens don't seem to review books on Amazon.
With so many cookbooks to choose from, I think adults ready to spend discretionary income are looking for recipes that relate to their individual lifestyle and authored by an experienced cook they admire.
Re: The cookbook. I bought it and have made some of the main dish recipes, not all but enough to feel I can make an informed commentary. Her recipes are not horrible but neither are they the best thing my family and I have ever eaten. As has been commented on, her proportions on the ingredient lists are odd at best. The food photographer and food taster, who is a chef herself, clearly modified Kate's recipes to make them more visually appealing which I feel was a disservice to the consumer, as it misrepresents the product, i.e. her recipes.
Her recipes are nothing special or unique and remind me of the "do it yourself cookbook fundraiser" books that the church auxiliary or PTAs used to put out (and still do but there was a time it seemed every organization was doing one).
If I had to sum up her cooking it would be mediocre. The chocolate cake was ok, I can make a better one from a cake mix. I didn't like the frosting but aside from Reese's it's not a flavor combo I seek out. Her creamie herbie chicken reminded me of a similar recipe I've made from the back of a Campbell's soup label. Her teriyaki marinade was again just ok - note, if you make it, I suggest you cook the leftover marinade before you use it to baste the steak.
Anyway, I didn't mean to ramble on. Milo, since you read here, please understand that the reason her cookbook isn't flying off the shelves has less to do with a conspiracy to sabotage it as it has to do with Kate herself.
Once again, Kate sold an image of herself to a company - this time HCI - and when push came to shove that image wasn't everything she promised it was. HCI clear called in professionals to gloss over her mediocre recipes and through photography make them appear to be something more than what they were. People on Amazon or B & N who actually bought the book and are writing negative reviews are doing so because the recipes are just not awe inspiring to the average home cook. They aren't horrible they just don't live up to the standard that Food Network, America's Test Kitchen and the like have taught your average everyday to expect.
I'm sorry that disappoints you, Milo. Maybe you can just rejoice in the fact that you and your fellow fans got to see something new from Kate and she got to be on some talk shows.
Completely off topic, but I am being invaded by flys! I shoo them out of the house but they keep coming back!
Any suggestions? They're avoiding the flypaper.

I bet they've got some fine print in their "publishing" (self-publishing) contract that says that the author bears all the responsibility if sued for plagiarism.
I very seldom watch television cooking shows, but I was just channel surfing to get latest news on the shutdown, and landed on Secrets of a Restaurant Chef. I know nothing about this person, but she's making shepherd's pie that has me drooling. Anyway, there is no way on this planet that Kate could ever do a cooking show. Good grief -- she'd be stumbling all over herself trying to multi-task. I didn't hear one "um" out of this person as she prepared the main dish and mushroom soup at the same time.
Kate would be the laughingstock of the network. I almost feel sorry for her. Almost.
Off to the store to get the ingredients for the shepherd's pie!

Can you elaborate more on this?
It's generally a NO-NO! to baste or generally use sauce used to marinate raw meat, even if you do know enough to boil it to kill germs. Why take a chance?
The correct way to use marinade for basting is to RESERVE a portion separately, so that is not introduced to raw meat.
Gawd, that's embarrassing. Salmonella chicken indeed.

It got the problem under control. I like it so much, I was going to buy another, but with the cooler weather, I think I'll hold off for a while.
Silimom, I really enjoyed your cookbook discussion and how your family graded the recipes. Anything in particular that stands out as far as the family reaction?
around our house we have been very busy, and Amazing Race and Survivor are really exciting this season. Time for DWTS tonight!
DWTS should have Morty and Lee on to dance! They are just adorable together.
One quick comment on Jon's interview in PennLive - sometimes he comes across like a used car salesman. Don't get me wrong, Jon seems like a good guy and I'd probably like him if I ever met him. I applaud him for finding something he enjoys doing and that he is working, unlike his ex.
But he came across a little too eager to please. "I want to make this the best restaurant in Berk's County!"
Or
"He does marketing for the restaurant, as well as acting as maître d', making sushi and taking on a few general manager duties. Gosselin's also looking to get even more involved. He's planning on investing money in the place, too, and maybe changing the decor around a bit - including removing an taxidermied ram's head from the wall."
And
"We also talked business. Gosselin is cross branding, using his fame to bolster the Black Dog Cafe's profile. It's working. Gosselin's turn as a waiter has been featured on Entertainment Tonight, USA Today and Yahoo! News. But has it been bringing in a crowd?
Ask Gosselin and he'll say business has doubled since he started working there, but owner Terry Printz is more cautious, admitting that there have been some fresh faces for sure. "Jon certainly has provided a definite wave of an immediate influx," he said."
I guess it was the "Business has doubled" comment made me raise an eyebrow. Jon is so eager to be validated. I get why, but it can come off as being a little full of himself.
Am I just being jaded? What do you all think?
So Milo and one of the other head ewes/crows are squawking because the book sales are flat and trying to blame the poor sales on "haters"?
They'll just never "get it", will they?

They were so bad this summer and I thought we were finally rid of them. Nope. They are buzzing around in the garage again and will be back in the house shortly. I've gone through several strips of sticky fly-catchers. I hate that stuff. It never un-twirls like it's supposed to. When they're in the house, I swat them and it drives the dog nuts. From Amazon on the topic of posting Reviews:
Question Does the reviewer have to buy the item from Amazon.com?
Answer: No. It doesn't matter where an item was purchased, or if it was a gift, or if the reviewer just borrowed it for a weekend. If someone feels moved to write a review of an item, and they are a registered Amazon.com customer, they are welcome.
Why don't the 170,000 twitter followers voice their support? Or even 1% of them?
Silence can be more powerful than criticism.
I would be interested in her cookbook if she had proven herself a cook on the show, but I saw little evidence of that. I don't even understand what her cookbook theme is other than cooking for a large family, which I don't have and I don't want to spend time figuring out how to reduce the ingredients.
Basically what she did was take the cookbook Zondervan rejected and just updated it to use as a publicity tool. I bet the majority of those recipes were in the original manuscript. Anything that Jon may have contributed, such as his Korean recipes, were deleted. I don't think she put much effort into this cookbook at all.
As far as HCI printing 50K copies, that may or may not be true. And you know what? I don't think she cares whether the book is a best seller or not. She got on TV to make her wishes known that she wants a show and that's all this cookbook was about. She probably considers it an investment to spend money printing the cookbook if she can finagle her way into TV again.
"On the big day (Tuesday) we ate dinner at our local Chipotle (as requested by the birthday girls) and then came home and celebrated with individual cakes — one for each — and ice cream. Then we opened the myriad of presents that awaited my 13 year olds. The smiles and screams of joy said it all…. It was the best birthday ever! Of course. Each one seems to be their favorite somehow! "
******************************
This is nothing but damage control with a narcissist's spin. I don't know whether there was a sleepover or not, whether Kate was involved or not but really, it's irrelevant.
Kate wants people to know that SHE was the driving force behind her kids' BEST BIRTHDAY ever. The real clue is the 'WE opened the myriad of presents that awaited MY 13 year olds' line.
Really Kate, YOU were involved in YOUR 13 year old kids open their presents? What, they couldn't handle it themselves? There were just so many?
And don't get me started on the whole 'screams of joy' bullshit. Unless they unwrapped Harry Styles himself, I doubt very much there was any actual screaming involved. She should learn to quit while she's ahead when she documents this nonsense.
And really, "striving" to love them and reminding herself who they really are with baby pictures, to me, is simply more evidence that she hasn't the first clue who her kids really are.
She isn't a real parent, she just played one on television and I really believe she's oblivious to the fact that it wasn't an ideal depiction either.
Anywho, Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canucks here.
May your blessings be many and your heart even fuller than your plate.
I am glad the older girls got to experience a typical birthday, and do not want to jump all over TFW for it, because I want those kids to experience Mediocrity!!!
I am however certain that Jon got to see those girls somewhere in there, but it hasnt been splattered all over the net. I think The SIX were with Jon on the twins bday, and TFW took the the TWINS to chipolte , was comped, and made the sign for tweeting purposes, and then they went to the movie, just the 3 of them.
I think the girls did have a sleepover. However, I think the not-a-nanny was there. TFW likely executed the plan, and the N-A-N rolled it out. TFW was at the casino friday nite, likely slept in saturday and was then well refreshed to be " available" during the sleepover.
I dont think TFW planted herself into the party, but made many appearances to organize games, give out food, put in movies etc. Kate would be a helicopter parent. Its the last step before "planting" yourself right into the party as an attending guest.
I get that, I enjoy my kids friends too, and in the younger days, would interject too often, but when the kids said they wished I wouldnt do it, I caught on, and removed myself. Now I hang around upstairs , have the food etc ready to go, and some of the teens will wander up and chat with me!
As for the cake....... We often had a friends party, and a family supper with cake. The friends party would have the themed cake, and the family supper would have the favorite cake ( which might be store bought or home made depending on preferences) . I still laugh how awful Kate's cakes look and how pretty the pre-made ones looked in the interviews she did. HA HA
TFW's egocentrism would not allow her to write a blog basically about her twins, and that is why we see the " we's" and how the teens affect her. Its her best attempt at sounding motherly. I might at times think to myself when a kid was having a teen moment " kid, you are making it very difficult for me to like you right now"..... but I would always always love them.
In fact, I have made it a point to tl my kids and children, so they truly believed it during the emotional roller coaster years of teens, that we would always love them no matter what. There was nothing they could ever do to make me stop loving them, and they always needed to remember that. We said, we might be disappointed, even mad, but never would we stop loving them. That has helped immensely during our teen years, which we are still in.
As for the "our" Ashely and the other girl. TFW is being sure to let us know that TFW and Ashley still see each other, even though we all know that Ashley is there for the kids. Ashely will "tolerate" Kate to be able to see those kids!!!
Kate's a Fake...trying to rewrite history. She thinks if she keeps spewing it, it will become her reality. There are no tv movies coming her way. In 10 years she will be a d-lister butt joke...
Like said before, that movie ...shoot forgot the title again, that Norma Desmond movie... was a foreshadowing of Kate Gosselins life.

Clearly @HCI_Books is a first class publisher! They saw @Kateplusmy8's book #LoveIsInTheMix as a unique/well-written & informative cook bk!
But, Milo, you never met her, so I guess she hasn't been a gift 2 U! I don't know what Milo is smokin (or drinkin), but whatever it is, I don't want any of it! She's so far gone that there's no hope. Seriously, though, I wonder if she does this just to stir up the "haters." I'm not in favor of outing, but geez, if this one could be proven to be a catfisher, I'd really like to see it. Such good entertainment she provides! I like Milo. She makes us realize how thankful we are to be sane, even if we do wear muumuus, knee socks and crocs!
I enjoyed your comment Sillimom about Kate's cookbook and your objective review of it. I was never planning on purchasing the book, but I appreciated that you did and actually tried several of the recipes. Mediocre at best. Designed to thrill the few fans she still has, but not designed to bring in new fans based on her cooking skills.
I think people like Milo will never openly accept that they are wrong about TFW. At this point, Milo and Emily and those few diehard others, have crossed a dangerous boundary. TFW has become an integral part of their lives, even beyond another family member. I think they identify as TFW in some ways, so any criticism of TFW is criticism they take very personally.
If and when the truth about TFW is revealed, Milo will just slink off quietly and pretend she never raved about her. Then, she'll find another public figure to worship and identify with, and cheer on, and defend against all who would find fault. Maybe that's wired in her DNA, just as TFW's narcissism is wired into hers. I'm just thankful that people like Milo are relatively rare, compared to the overall population.
But just like TFW, Milo will never, ever admit she was wrong.
Oh yes, TFW egocentrism also lends her to believe that people are always thinking about her, and everything we do revolves around her.
I can not help but wonder if Bully there helped TFW to believe it was RWA that Jon and Robert were using as a forum to spew their ( nonexistant ) hate. Kate : Jon is so over you. he doesnt even need to use your name anymore. Robert just wants to expose you!
Regardless, Kate will likely never go away, but this lawsuit is going to blow the covers off of the dirty little secrets that Kate takes to bed with her!

Why aren't all the fans who did buy the book rushing over to Amazon to praise the book? I'm sure there are more than 16 of them.
The sheeple actually think that 13 negative reviews are going to influence people not to buy the book? Yep, just blame it all on those 13 bullies that the book isn't setting record sales figures.
********
Unfortunately, rationality and logic are unfamiliar to sheeple. They cannot conceive that a consumer (such as myself) is used to seeing all kinds of reviews of all sorts of products. They do not accept that I might have the intelligence to read through these reviews (good, bad and in between) and make up my own mind on whether I want to purchase a product.
Because they are unable to think logically, they don't understand that many of us do just that, all the time. If I am a fan of Pioneer Woman, or Gordon Ramsey, or Paula Deen -- then I would probably simply ignore any negative book reviews and buy their next cookbook.
In another scenario, I want to buy a cookbook, one with family-style recipes. I'm not sure which one to purchase. So I go on Amazon and do a search for family style cookbooks. Many come up. I read the reviews and look at the prices. What I'm looking for are authentic reviews - ones that sound real to me. I will probably purchase the book that has a good number of reviews, most of them positive, and none of them involving the word "haters", or "leave her alone, she's trying to raise 8 kids" etc.
@batmananjie: @Kateplusmy8 @Emma_Jac I have 3 of those books! I love you Kate you are my hero! I am a 2 year old teacher and I love how u were organized
What?!
If I were to post a review on Amazon I wouldn't do it under my verified account because I wouldn't want the fans or BV to have access to my information. I read enough in the "look inside" preview to know that I don't want the cookbook and I trust Sillimom's assessment.

Thanks, KIAT!
Although I'm not a fan of The Pioneer Woman and her phony lifestyle, the numbers speak for themselves with respect to her cookbooks, reality show, product endorsements, website and subtle exploitation of her own kids and pets. She's a producer of her own show and has the money to do it. The family ranks #17 in owning the most land in the country. They receive substantial subsidies from the government also for the wild horses that are kept on their land. I think some of her recipes would take years off your life if followed exactly as she presents them and are prepared on a daily basis. She's also gained a lot of weight recently and is supposedly working out with a celebrity trainer now. She has the money to do that, but how many others who have gained weight eating her recipes can do that? And her participation in the lifestyle presented on her ranch, including her homeschooling is a joke. From everything that I've read, she doesn't home school her own children. How many parents would allow their child to drink water from a pond or stream that is most likely a runoff for cow manure and God knows what other bacteria that may be in that water? And don't think that TPW doesn't have an excellent legal team, publicists, and employees who monitor her main site and face book to immediately scrub clean any condescending comments.
Although I believe she also exploits her children much like TFW, she is more subtle about it and many buy into her lonely ranch wife and lifestyle garbage. I don't purchase her cookbooks because I can also find similar recipes for free online or I can rely on my old church and PTA cookbooks for similar recipes.

I get it, I really do. I think I'd like Jon too and he seems like a genuinely good guy. My concern is that investing in the restaurant business is risky. In football parlance, it's a low percentage play.
Moreover, I hope Jon takes a whole lot of time to commit to this investment, because he's been used before. That said, it seems he's wised up and is being more cautious all the way around.
I think what he's going through, most of us go through in our 20's. Who am I, what do I want to do with my life and what makes me happy? We're usually in a chosen profession, job or career.
He's been bouncing around a whole lot and he's behind the 8-ball, not enviable with 8 children. Kate is too, truth be told.
This whole yearning to get back on tv and need for fame and money is folly. That brass ring ain't coming around again any time soon.
Probably never.

However, the recent article re: the Kardashian's--Kris, Kim, and Khloe--Q ratings was very interesting. Imagine, both momanager Kris' & Kim's Q ratings are both down to 4, down from 12 & 9 respectively in previous years. While Khloe remains pretty steady at 11. Does this mean our TV's will be free of that family soon?
Makes you wonder about TFMJG's current Q rating. Surely TV networks, producers & directors look at that before greenlighting any series.
Milo honey, do you know your besties' Q rating? Maybe you should mention it in your tweets to ABC.
If just 1% of TFW's twitter followers posted a good review on Amazon for her cookbook how many would that be?
1% of TFW's followers would be 1700. 170 would be 1/10 of 1% and she can't even get that many positive reviews with Amazon and B&N combined. There are only 25, 5 star reviews on Amazon. Either her followers aren't buying the book (we know they're not from the paltry sales figures) or they're not writing reviews (which may also be the case since so many seem to have been bought by teens who likely don't have Amazon accounts).
There's no blaming the atrocious sales figures on the non-fans or poor reviews. TFW need only look to her personal failed and almost non-existent PR, her own rude behavior by ignoring fans asking legit questions about the book and tour, her own stupid 'secrecy' about tour dates and places, and her own behavior in interviews for the book's lack of success. OH, and the fact that the recipes are nothing special and can be found anywhere isn't helping!
She's proven once again that she either can't or won't do anything to help her 'career' and in fact, has repeatedly done things that work against the success she says she wants so badly. She wants a 'career' to be handed to her on a golden platter without putting in the time or hard work required. The haterz aren't standing in her way - she's doing it to herself.
Joy: OT- I am an avid Amazing Race fan, and am disappointed I just have no favorite team this time! I liked the football players but...I also think they should not have so many wealthy people as competitors. I like to root for the ones who need money for their families or careers etc. What do you think?

I did a rather lengthy post on them this morning. I'm not sure if it showed up? Thanks for the link to their Today Show appearance. I was quite impressed.
Mom Evonne is looking good!
So is the whiz-bang cookbook media tour/radio interviews done now? Is Kate slipping back into mediocre obscurity again?
Or will the dismal sales prompt HCI to shove her back out there?
Interesting article in the NY Post about celebrites who put out cookbooks. An excerpt:
"More and more actresses are setting their oven timers to prolong their 15 minutes of fame, broadcasting their love of cooking and the domestic sphere to the world in a bid to stay in the spotlight. Apparently, all you need to write a cookbook is a pretty face, a role in a mediocre film or television series and a cute story about a kitchen disaster and/or passionate conviction to share in the introduction."
Kate got a brief mention:
"Actresses aren’t the only ones using cookbooks to cling to their 15 minutes. Last month, Kate Gosselin released her “Love Is in the Mix” cookbook, filled with recipes approved by her brood and made with name-brand ingredients that suggest convenient partnerships."

PW is to life like McDonalds is to food. Most of the time you don't and know you shouldn't, but once in awhile you really do just want that Big Mac and so you tune in. My tivo just picked one up and this is the first time I've noticed her weight gain. Eventually those recipes would catch up.

She probably considers it an investment to spend money printing the cookbook if she can finagle her way into TV again.

Add in a salacious lawsuit for good measure and you've changed the narrative once again.
I, too, believe this was a marketing tool to get back in the public eye and drop not so subtle hints that it's time to get back on TV.
PW also might have some medical condition or is taking meds that are giving her the weight gain and moon face. Her recipes are laden with fat, and at some point, you have to pay the piper. That said, the ranch workers and kids seem to work long and hard, and need the calories.
They just need less unhealthy fatty sources.
I have noted more emphasis on the kids and their personal lives, and that makes me sad.

I don't think TFW could care less if anybody even looked at the recipes. She wants everyone to see how fabulous she looks and by the way, my kids would look great on a t.v. show. This is a coffee table book more than a cookbook.

Who knows if it was quoted correctly.
But he does seem prone to over-state things sometimes. I wish he wouldn't do that. It hurts his credibility.
The same with saying he might invest in the business. Why say things like that. You'd think he'd have learned by now to play things very close to the vest.
I think his enthusiasm gets in the way of accurate statements sometimes.
And he does seem easily taken in. Not that those people would do that. But I'd like to see him take his time, take it slow. See how things develop. Don't jump into the alligator swamp with both feet. Again.

Thanks! It looks like an interesting product and I like that it plugs in because I have floor to ceiling windows in my breakfast nook and they fly around the bottom of the windows. There's an outlet in the corner between the windows so I think this will be perfect.
Admin, I agree with you. I watch what I eat, but I do occasionally enjoy Wendy's Jr. bacon cheeseburgers with a side of fries and I enjoy their chili also. The chili doesn't bother me, but sometimes I get bad indigestion from a couple of those Jr. bacon cheeseburgers and fries. But I have to admit it satisfies me and tastes so good when I eat it, although I pay for it later. And back to PW, she has gained weight and has admitted to it, whether or not it is from her own cooking or eating out so much and not restricting her diet while she's away or on tour, at her age, it caught up to her.
And going back to TFW and many of her non-organic, fatty recipes, she continues to lose weight. It indicates to me that she doesn't eat the recipes she put and prepares for her children. What it she really eating? It appears she isn't eating what she's trying to sell in her cookbook. This is also an indication of why her cookbook isn't selling.

Gee, and did you notice that somehow they were coping with not having matching cribs? Amazing! I thought that was a requirement for having multiples.
It's become pretty clear to me Jon's personality is very much live in the moment, the dreamer, march to their own drums, a bit in the clouds at times. These kind of people are often artists or actors, not often found at desk jobs, and many multi-millionaires seem to be like this.
The problem is for people like me and others here who are much more grounded and type A--this kind of personality can be infuriating and impossible to live with much less even befriend. I've always thought that Kate and Jon, while they may have been in love, ultimately were doomed to be very incompatible. People like Jon need partners who love and appreciate that personality for all its positives, and don't sigh and scratch their heads over it for what we see as negatives, like so many people here do. I'm guessing even in real life Jon is sort of a love him or hate him type person, like many others like him.
@daisygirl2650: @Kateplusmy8 I like your blonde hair extensions

========
This person cannot be real. It has to be an account created to poke TFW. All of her tweets are along the same lines.
I think another reason PW has so many viewers and fans is because she's selling a lifestyle that is more real than not.
I would argue the same for Giada's show now (with her family and CA beach life), Ina Garten and Martha Stewart.
These shows take place in someone's real home, with their real family and friends, albeit high production.
J+K+8 was arguably a lifestyle show, until it wasn't. At first, J+K and their brood were real. Their house was real, the stress and chaos was real (ish) and they acted more real.
I don't think people could relate to spa Kate, a family who was supposed to be barely middle class with all the luxuries they began to acquire and by the time J+K+8 turned into K+8, the only thing that got anyone to tune in was the kids and the drama of the diva.
I think another reason PW has so many viewers and fans is because she's selling a lifestyle that is more real than not.
&&&
I think so too. In following PW for awhile, she reminds me of simple comfort food Sunday dinners in the small farming, church-centered community I grew up in. Or when I recently visited Sheridan, Wyoming. People really do work hard, ride horses, rope cattle then come home to a nice fatty meal because they do indeed need the calories.
No, it was not Norman Rockwell every day. Of course everyone had their troubles. But it was like that SOMETIMES. PW and others like her sort of hit on those days when Rockwell is in the air. The kind of lifestyle she has IS real and does exist for many people. It's just not the daily, constant, always perfect country thing that sometimes it might come across as. And what probably bothers her "haters" I suspect. I am not a hater because for whatever reason it simply doesn't bother me. I understand the hate, however.
I guess it was the "Business has doubled" comment made me raise an
eyebrow. Jon is so eager to be validated. I get why, but it can come
off as being a little full of himself. 26
I see your point, but what I got from the interview was enthusiasm and
a passion for his work. He's learning new things (someone knows how
to teach him! - I'd love to learn to make sushi). I'll bet that
anyone who goes to the restaurant with the thought of meeting Jon
Gosselin won't be disappointed by the meeting or the food, by all
accounts.
***************
And really, "striving" to love them and reminding herself who they
really are with baby pictures, to me, is simply more evidence that she
hasn't the first clue who her kids really are.
She isn't a real parent, she just played one on television and I
really believe she's oblivious to the fact that it wasn't an ideal
depiction either. 33
These children clearly bonded with one or more caregivers during that
crucial period, but I doubt that it was with their gestational
carrier. TFW clearly never bonded with the 6'; not clear about the
twins.
None of them appear to meet criteria for this: (which gives me hope).

Deon and Evonne plus NINE! All without a whine!
No, I'm not suggesting a reality show, just making a point.
I'm sure pedophiles don't wear a sign around their neck proclaiming the fact that they are pedophiles so I don't know how they can be restricted from watching kids' sporting events.
Well, Gayle, most kids' sporting events are on school property. Pedophiles are restricted from these areas. Like I said, at least a FILTER is ATTEMPTED to protect kids from nosy gawkers.
Regarding weight gain as well, in reading her blog PW has had some very extensive and intensive shooting schedules this summer. I bet she's been piling on the craft service offerings, ravenous from all the hard work.
Everyone says movie sets are the WORST place to lose weight. They are like cruise ships with the buffets and it's all free. The one I was on even had sort of a junk food cart open ALL DAY in addition to all the regular food. Anything you could think of filled to the brim. It was like a candy store only free. I wish I had taken a picture but back then you didn't think to take pics of things like that like I would today. I remember the bins of gummy worms, chips, baskets of yogurts, bananas, gum, candy bars--all there for the taking. The director was in trouble for going over budget and his craft services was partly to blame but he believed if the cast and crew were happily fed he got a better product.
Or when I recently visited Sheridan, Wyoming. People really do work hard, ride horses, rope cattle then come home to a nice fatty meal because they do indeed need the calories.
********
Yup, that's the lifestyle I'd watch!
Ahhhhhh....
I'd add Trish Yearwood to the lifestyle show list.
I love the expression that Rockwell is in the air. It feels good to imagine being immersed in that picture perfect life, if only for 30 minutes now and then.
Little League is often televised, and many communities televise local high school sports.
OMG. That is SO wrong. Puts entirely too much pressure on young people. Who's watching this?? Adults that are invested in the outcome.

&&&
This is an old tweet but I have to say I agree with this sheeple 100%. Where IS the common courtesy? Common courtesy makes your book schedule available to your fans on your web site. Common courtesy makes it easy for your fans to find since you are constantly asking THEM to fork over their hard earned money to buy what you're shilling.
Common courtesy is right.
OMG. That is SO wrong. Puts entirely too much pressure on young people. Who's watching this?? Adults that are invested in the outcome.
&&&
Really? I don't think anything is wrong with it at all. I think a couple of my high school bball games made it to the local access channel. I thought absolutely nothing of it and neither did anyone else.
Who is watching? Well, small towns follow high school sports like cities follow their local teams. It's not creepy, it's just something constructive to do on a Friday night. I imagine some of the fans watch if they can't make it, and probably the kids themselves and maybe some proud parents. It's usually filmed by a parent themselves, you're lucky if you get a game shot on a tripod--it's not a film crew and I can't find anything exploitive about it. No different than someone's dad filming it and letting anyone who wants to see it borrow it. Local access just makes sharing easier. I remember I felt sad when we lost, but I never ever felt pressure to win. I remember cheers and applause after every game win or lose.
Allrecipes.com is aware of Kate's possible plagiarism. "Due to the nature of recipes, the copyright laws for recipes are somewhat different than those for other printed material. One cannot copyright a list of ingredients, or even the ultimate product. (This is why so many books can include a basic cheesecake recipe with exactly the same ingredients.) Only the description and directions fall under copyright law. For more information concerning copyright law and recipes, the U.S. copyright office has a helpful web page. http://www.loc.gov/copyright/faq.html It does looks like Kate Gosselin's cake recipe is quite similar to the Grandpops Special Chocolate Cake on our website, and it has been around long enough for her to possibly have adapted her recipe for her kid's birthday cake from it. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Grandpops-Special-Chocolate-Cake/Detail.aspx This information has been passed on to our team for further review."

Lol! I probably watch it more than I should because my youngest likes the show (she's really into cooking shows). I enjoy watching shows like hers or Ina Garten's or Paula Deen's because it's a level of cooking I'm not going to do everyday. I mean, could you imagine eating like that 24/7? You'd definitely need a trainer to get into shape.
I think that Kate was barking up the wrong tree with his cookbook venture. Her fan base is pre-teens and teens, who ask for the book for their birthdays or Christmas, or save up their babysitting money to buy it. They have no interest in cooking; they just want pictures of Kate and the kids.
Who is left? Some adult sheeple who most likely aren't cooks, either, and can't figure out how to freeze cookies. The adult sheeple who can cook don't need a book that features canned recipes when they can get much better ones on the internet. They might buy the book for the pictures, but that gets old after awhile. I mean, how often can you sit and look at photos of other people's children? So they realize that if they'll never use the recipes, why spend the money?
Kate didn't think that thing through. Just because a few fans tweeted that she should put out a cookbook, she went ahead with it, not realizing that those few fans are not going to rake in millions for her.

I don't agree. I don't think Kate thought she'd make real scratch off this book. Rather, I think it's another ploy to get back on the radar screen, and I predict she's already scheming what book to write next.

It's a gamble- the long con and she's far from giving up on it.

Where did the quote from allrecipes come from?
With all the duplicate & modified recipes floating around, is it allowed to lift one, make 1 or 2 changes & call it your own recipe? Now that people are starting to find some of the duplicate recipes posted on a company's site. Someone also said one recipe was a combination of 2 recipes from allrecipes.com. I think modifing a recipe & not giving due credit kinda boards on plagiarism.

It cracks me up that the fans think that the handful of twitter haters have hundreds of sock accounts responsible for all the comments on articles and bad reviews on Amazon. Amazon I'll give them but the article comments...you can pick out a hater when they use buzzwords like "grifter" or repeat things said on Twitter. There are A LOT who you can tell are just people who don't like her...especially when they post as their real names with their Facebook profile.
And that jerk Bullyville bowed out, saying he was going to make a Emeraldcityzazz.com or something...that he was leaving his account in the hands of a great "troll". In the meantime the account has been one boring platitude or stupid quote after another LOL
Anonymous (56),
We know TFW gets recipes from Allrecipes. She once posted a link to a holiday ham recipe that was, I believe, from that website. She's lying about "developing" that recipe.
Silimom,
I have also made some of the recipes from the cookbook. I didn't buy it, but I made some recipes that TFW posted. I already reviewed the turkey chili (I'll never make that again), and I have made the creamy herbie chicken and the lemon basil chicken. The creamy herbie chicken was not a hit with my family. Nobody ate it, other than an obligatory taste. The problem was the mustard taste, which overpowered the dish. I think the problem was the grainy mustard. Grainy mustards have very strong mustard flavor, and it was just too much for the dish. I think TFW took a chicken dijon recipe and changed it to make it "hers". Changing it to grainy mustard ruined the dish.
The lemon basil chicken wasn't bad. I marinaded it for 4 hours and cooked it on the grill. Not bad, but nothing special. I wouldn't choose to make it again with so many really good marinade recipes out there. But nobody refused to eat it, like they did with the creamy herbie chicken. I also made the chocolate cake. A pretty standard chocolate cake recipe. Nothing special. I guess the problem with TFW's recipes is that they are either not good or they are just ordinary. I like to cook things that are really delicious, and there are so many really great recipes available for free on the internet. Why pay for a collection of ordinary/bad ones? Out of the 4 recipes I have tried, there is not even one that I would bother to make again.
The sheeple are blaming the non-fans for the failure of TFW's cookbook? How so? The recipes are not good, and very few people like TFW well enough to want her cookbook. The sheeple claim that TFW's 170,000+ followers are real. So why aren't the fans buying it? If they are fans, they won't care what the non-fans have to say about the book. They would buy it because they like TFW. But only 1,000-2,000 books have sold. Which means that only 1% of TFW's fans are willing to spend money to help "support" TGW. How can that be? Milo says they all love TFW. The cookbook isn't that expensive. But 99% of TFW's fans/followers are so weak-minded that a handful of negative reviews will stop them from supporting TFW? Sorry, I don't buy it.

She can wear out another 12 pink iPhones with her endless drivel, but I think it's safe to say, she will never get another publisher to touch her after this. Unless she writes some sort of tell-all, but even there she's been usurped by Hoffman. If HCI really did print 50,000 of these, with fewer than 1,000 sold so far on Amazon over the course of 30+ weeks and a full two-week promotional tour, they have got to be pretty panicked. That is, IF they really did fund it. Unfortunately, these are among the things we will never know for certain.

Wow, thank the stars Jon escaped the claws of that nasty nasty shrew. Bless that man for putting his foot down and stopping the filming. He paid dearly. He knew he would. But, think about it. What he did was heroic when you can look back. God Bless Jon and Robert Hoffman.
I can't find a link to Kate's chocolate cake right now, but when I compared it the other day, it looked like she only changed the liquid at the end to half coffee (decaf) and half water. Otherwise it looked just about the same.
The thing with recipe copyright is that you can tweak an amount here and there and the directions can be worded differently and you're OK. You can reproduce something almost exactly, but avoid copyright because your narrative is different.
I think where Kate can actually get into some trouble (or blow back, what have you) is that she claims that she herself developed these recipes, and I don't believe that for a second. No way, no how.
I just checked the live well site for the chocolate cake to see if it said where it came from. Seems it was pulled off?

I do too. I think it's dirty pool and below board, but perhaps not something that will result in any action taken. You don't earn much credibility or admiration from your peers when you stand on the shoulders of giants.
Her chocolate cake recipe has the exact ingredients as the Extreme Chocolate Cake recipe. The directions are written differently. She added the coffee & changed the oil from vegetable to canola. The quantity if liquid is pretty easy to figure out on your own. Just decrease the water to half cup to make room for the coffee additional.

Wow, thank you for the recipe reviews. Your methodology in reviewing the recipes is solid, as is your critical thinking about how absurd it is to think that Kate's haters are causing poor sales.
1%.
Just 1% of her purported twitter followers, her fans, have bought the book?
She needs to get a better fan base.
******
Again with the screams (shrieks) of joy. In TFW's mind, her children sure scream a lot. I don't think my child ever shrieked (with joy, fear, surprise, or annoyance). He yelled occasionally but when he opened a gift he'd been longing for, it was usually a big gasp of happiness followed by a terrific hug.
However, I have a son. Maybe girls are different, especially teenage girls. Do they shriek a lot? I really don't know.
Two cakes, one for each teen? Did TFW celebrate the birthday with just the girls? Were the other children there for the celebration?
Or is this entire thing, except getting to eat at a semi fast food place, a bunch of phoney baloney?
"Money complicates and ruins relationships!!!!" (from her letter to Julie May Carson over the kerfuffle with Jodi and Kevin).
&&&
Sure does. How dare anyone in any of your "relationships" want their fair cut of that ridiculous gravy train.
Sure does. How dare anyone in any of your "relationships" want their fair cut of that ridiculous gravy train.

There's a full passenger car on that derailed gravy train nodding their heads in agreement.
I think I read somewhere that TLC did compensate Jodi and Kevin eventually and that is what pissed Kate off so much. I'm not absolutely sure about that though.
Jumping in (105): "Naturally, the kids miss the crew, they miss travelling, and miss filming, and YES she had the audacity to say it for the umpteenth time. Geez."
&&&
Still going through old comments so sorry if this is a really old one. But at this point, do the younger kids even REMEMBER filming? There's no way they remember anything but tiny bits and pieces of Jon and Kate, and they can't remember that much more about Kate Plus 8. And the older they get the more blurry it will be.
I wonder if this point if, other than a few bits and pieces, they are just "remembering" what they've been shown over and over on T.V. This is a real phenomenon where pictures and videos of an event can reshape our memories. If that's the case then they are only remembering the roses that the viewers saw, nicely edited with music, and not all the hard work and sea sickness and long filming days behind it.
Anyway, I find it so hard to believe the Tups can articulate what about filming was so grand to them. Something original from them that's not just a parrot of what Kate has told them. As I really don't believe these young children remember very much. Yet I have never ever heard an interviewer ask how old the kids were when they last filmed their show.
I think I read somewhere that TLC did compensate Jodi and Kevin eventually and that is what pissed Kate off so much. I'm not absolutely sure about that though.
&&&
I remember this too and I want to say this is solid info from Jodi's sister.
This has really always bugged. Was Kate's salary DECREASED because they wanted to pay Jodi? I can't imagine that--that's not how it works. Then if TFW still makes plenty of money what does SHE care of Jodi or anyone gets paid? What does it matter? I don't understand it. Why not just be happy for others who are benefiting? Or is this like rejoicing when a mom has a miscarriage because now she won't be a threat?
I think she really saw this as "her" pie and that only she could partake and if anyone else tried to partake she didn't see it as the expanding pie it was, but rather a fixed pie. She has a penchant for irrationality. Jodi was an important dynamic to the show. She was the opposite of Kate and had a lot of fans. People tuned in to see them interact as much as they did Jon and Kate. Keeping Jodi on in the cast of "characters" I think only would have helped ratings, not hurt. EVERYBODY benefits. EVERYBODY makes boatloads of money. Sigh.
Kate herself is hindering her possibilities. The cookbook is her latest attempt at some quick publicity, a little travel, maybe a few bucks. It's her usually lackluster, no effort, mediocre, and lazy effort that she puts into everything. We don't know if there is much difference from the 2009 version that she couldn't get published. Rather than start from scratch, put some effort in and create some new recipes based on how her kids eat now vs. 4-5 years ago. She blows so many opportunities. Instead of taking advantage of all the fresh ingredients she can get where she lives or the acres of land she has, she bases recipes on canned items. She could have started a friendly garden challenge, boys. Vs. girls who can grow the biggest tomatoes, or yellow beans vs. green beans. Take some wonderful pictures, again effort required. Documente apple, blueberry, strawberry picking with the kids. Teach the kids to peel apples. She does nothing with those kids. They probably have no idea where food comes from except the grocery store. She could have developed a great farm to table repertoire of recipes. She could have started the work spring/summer 2012. Put her heart and soul into it when the kids went back to school in the fall, taken a writing or class on nutrition. Instead, she takes old recipes; old kid pictures to fill up the space and tries to sell it as a cookbook. She doesn't put hard work into anything except her list making. Thinks she has changed her ways, prove it, walk the talk. Has she done any volunteer work in her community to change the ways she is perceived. Saying so, doesn't make it so.

Exactly the hook I would advise her to go for. Brilliant.
Farm to table is HUGE right now. I would indeed advise her to start a real garden with all that land and a real blog where she posts daily or almost daily about her adventures gardening and the organic creations she comes up with straight from southeastern PA soil.
In the blogging world, a good blog about farm fresh organic cooking from your own garden could make thousands and more. If I were her I think even a ghostwriter would be worth the expense to help you come up with interesting blog fodder. If she went for this hook, she would have surely sold more cookbooks too. There is no clear theme to her book. No "hook." Nothing at all hot and trendy that people are buying right now. But slap a photo of Kate in her garden picking things then more photos cooking what she picked and it's suddenly selling. She could call it "Kate to Table" or something.
This has really always bugged. Was Kate's salary DECREASED because they wanted to pay Jodi?
******
Kate didn't want anyone else to make $$ off her children, just her. It was the Kate show.
Kate trashed her brother and Jodie for getting paid for interviews-- is she the pot or the kettle? How many interviews and photographs has she been paid for?
Kate went on to call it "blood money" and berate them publicly for not being home eating dinner with their kids when they participated in Rep. Murt's hearing. One day, a handful of exits down the PA turnpike.
Hardly a trip to NYC or L.A.-- Kate's usual haunts at the time.
Kate also implied that their lifestyle changed with a new home purchase.
I think she really saw this as "her" pie and that only she could partake
====
Actually I just read it now, in that same letter Kate says when TLC filmed the kids whenever they were filming at Jodi and Kevin's home, or Jodi went with Jon and Kate to help out during filiming, TLC paid. If they were babysitting when Jon and Kate were doing their speaking engagements Jon and Kate paid them.
But still, yes, why get upset because they get a share of the money if it's not coming out of her pocket? She's the one who torpedoed that relationship, not Jodi, Kevin, or TLC. SHE did it and lost a friend, ruined the relationship with her brother, and most importantly the person her kids loved and felt comfortable to be with. All Kate's doing. Again.
So legally speaking I can copy a recipe of Julia Child's original and unique escargot l'orange au Coca Cola® ( lol) and rewrite the directions to read cook snails til done, add other stuff, stir and simmer for 2 hours.
And it would become MY recipe? Wow. Sorry Julia. Your empire is about to become mine, all mine! This is too easy. I could have a cookbook put together in a month.
At this point, I don't believe there is anything that Kate can do to redeem herself. The damage has been done. Most people just want her to go away!
Instead she 'writes' a cookbook based largely on plagiarism and processed foods. Organic who? But as we all know Farm to Table is more labor intensive than using a can opener, and anything that sounds like work will never cross her mind. No, this was an advertising ploy, sell herself by padding the book with pictures of her moneymakers.
Seriously, what adult calls a recipe " creamy herbie chicken"? Even Rachael Ray is better than that.
I agree Admin. what do the sextuplets really remember about filming, about travelling, about any of it? They must know their ordinary lives as 9 year olds without cameras there does not interest mommy much, or why could she not just be content to be at home with them as is. They have to sense that every time she goes off on her trips for "work" it's to get it back to the way it was before, with the crew there filming their lives, so mommy can be happy, truly happy again!
High Sodium Content, love the name!!!!!!!! Also love your brilliant ideas. TFMJG could jump on the home gardening bandwagon, learn how to can some of her own produce, and chronicle the amusing yet rewarding efforts of the novice home canner. To much work, and it would require consistent effort, that TFMJG is not capable of, judging by prior efforts.
OT: Dancin With Them Thar Stars! No spoilers. I am trying to figure out mathematically how the scoring is done this season, since things are different with only one episode per week. Somebody help me out. So celebs dance week one and get judges scores and call in and online and text votes from public. Then week two I think, but not sure, that judge s scores are added to prior weeks scores to get total score and decide who is going home. Or am I completely wrong and out is just the scores from the prior week - judge and public scores - that decide who will go home the next week? I am confused! And surprised, but won't say more about that until tomorrow.
Researching scoring on DWTS is so much more interesting than anything TFMJG does.
"I don't think people could relate to spa Kate, a family who was supposed to be barely middle class with all the luxuries they began to acquire and by the time J+K+8 turned into K+8, the only thing that got anyone to tune in was the kids and the drama of the diva."
******
I have wondered sometimes if Kate had shown just a small bit of gratitude, something along the lines of "The show has really changed our circumstances and I'm not going to lie, it has changed our "reality". We were really struggling before and it's nice to not have to worry about money now, it's nice to be in a position where Jon can be home with the me and the kids, to be able to take the trips we do and have these experiences because while it wouldn't be impossible it would have probably been very rare for us to take these types of trips on our own. We have been blessed by so many people over the years and we're just really thankful," rather than "This is the most realest reality show ever." and "Oh we don't know how we're going to send our kids to college (cue to pass the love offering plates)" or "Yes we go to these places but it's not like the places are paying us to go. They get the free publicity, we get a free trip out of it. See how frugal a mom I am!" or "I've got bills in my purse I can't pay!" and "Nobu! Nobu! I want to go to Nobu!" if she wouldn't have had a longer "career" in reality tv.
I'm watching the Kardashian's imploding now and while I never really watched the show - maybe an episode here or there - it's sad that all Kris Jenner sees is money and more money and she's so out of touch with reality.
I am really hoping that these "We're not scripted! Really!" (nudge nudge wink wink say no more say no more) shows are on the way out and sitcoms make a return. Although, I must confess, I was watching hulu plus on Sunday, lying on the couch, recovering from a weekend campout and came across the show "The Goldbergs" and realized I was watching another "Wonder Years" type of show except this time around it was my generation they were reminiscing about - the early 80's. I felt really old. So sitcoms but not necessarily ones about the 80's (although it's a cute show, I must admit). :-)
Layla, I used the regular smooth "Grey Poupon" because I had bought a pack at Costco and didn't think it would make much difference. My husband and son ate it but they only gave it about a 2, saying it was a little gloppy. As I said, it reminded me of something I had made once off a Campbell's condensed cream of X soup can.
I made the Nana Janet's roast as well. It came out rather dry but the gravy helped, although my husband felt it was really salty, which was odd because I only used the small amount of salt the recipe called for. It's one they would eat again and if I did do it once more, I'd tweek it more to suit our personal tastes (add some garlic cloves into the meat, for example) and I'd probably do it in the slow cooker. I felt pretty safe with it, seeing as it was Nana Janet's (not Kate's) recipe.
Of the things I've made, I think the family would eat some of it again if I changed a few things around, like less lemon in the hummus for example. I wasn't the only one who didn't like her peanut butter/chocolate frosting, so that one wasn't a big hit but might be if I used a regular chocolate frosting. I'm planning on continuing to try things and will report back when I do. I've got a lot of leftover bananas from the trip so I'm going to see if she's got any recipes that call for bananas.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
True, but she sure needs to use Jon's name. Her whole brand is tied to the name Gosselin.
I wish Jon could take back his own name and refuse to allow TFW to use it any longer.
Kate said on the radio show today that despite what people believe, reality TV is not a moneymaker.
&&&
Another old comment. Wait just a cotton pickin' minute. She's said countless times they needed to do reality t.v. despite the drawbacks because they can't support the kids on a nurse's salary. If it's not a moneymaker, then why has she been saying all along it's worth the sacrifice? And why keep pursuing it if this is no moneymaker? She is just one big walking contradiction.
Also isn't that sort of insulting to TLC? Implying they didn't pay the family fairly and adequately when in fact that surely did?
Silimom (112)
I'm sure your herbie chicken was better with the dijon. I wondered if it would be. Still, I'm not going to be making it again. There are so many good recipes out there, why bother with a bad one?
Admin (114)
If reality TV isn't a money maker, then where did the million dollar house come from? Or the private school tuition for 8, or the 3 cars? How has TFW been able to survive for 25 months with no real income? She is so full of it. It was nice to se Bethenny call her out and say that she made a LOT of money off reality TV--she should know, she did it too. TFW didn't know what to say then. She couldn't lie because Bethenny knew the truth. And you're right, if it isn't a money maker, then why put so much effort into getting back into it? She thinks her audience has ADD and can't track her lies from one interview to another.

Ah, logical thinking is so refreshing!
Remember, Kate conflates so that you (the general you) can't tease apart the truth from the lies. This is a classic case.
Unless you've read Robert's book, you'd still that major goods and money flowed in for years from endorsement deals. 6-figure deals!
The reality tv show made this all possible. It didn't happen just by virtue of Kate's HOM pregnancy.
Kate getting back on TV is about becoming a highly visible brand again and when you think about it that way, it makes a lot of sense. But, don't expect Kate to explain that to the general public, let alone her adoring fans.
It reminds me of the movie Lost In Translation. Bill Murray's character was an over the hill, now D-list action movie star in the U.S., but in Japan, he was hot, still a movie star and relevant. His brand was used to sell a brand of whiskey. So, he was hired for a 1 or 2 million dollar deal, all expense paid, 5-star photo shoot in Tokyo.
Not a bad paycheck for a few days work.
"The kids miss travelling"...again. Does she really think that, if by a miracle they got another show that they would use the same format? People really did not want to watch Barbie shuttle her kids around to luxurious vacations in an ungrateful manner. Unrelateable.

Silimom, I think there really is GOOD tv out there, and thanks to streaming video (gulp! binge viewing!) and excellent suggestions from 15 min., I haven't tuned into the likes of RHOAnywhere in years and years.
The Goldbergs has great potential. I'm really enjoying and have mentioned here, I believe.
"Mom" otoh, was appalling, and *that* makes me feel like I'm getting old. I watched a recorded episode late last night (chocolate after dinner-no good) and kept on thinking of my dear mother, who would have sat there shaking her head, saying "awful, just awful".
Liking Trophy Wife and The Lucky Ones. Michael J. Fox was OK.
Anyways, just to say that there is good acting, writing and story telling, especially those that come from the U.K.
BBC America rules.
Really Kate, YOU were involved in YOUR 13 year old kids open their presents? What, they couldn't handle it themselves? There were just so many?
***************************************************************
I wonder if she still makes them sit back to back as she "dispurses" the myriad of gifts? Bet there was a "myriad" of gifts because she socks away all the freebies, gifts, gift cards that are sent to THE KIDS and doles them out when there's a need, such as bdays, Christmas etc...
She openly said she did that on the show. The Korean dinner? The chopsticks? Kids got them as gifts and she took them away to be used for their manufactured traditions.
Seriously, what adult calls a recipe " creamy herbie chicken"? Even Rachael Ray is better than that.

When so much of Jodie and Kevin's time and resources were being used for the show, I believe that they should have been compensated. They became characters in the show.
I do wonder, however, if Jodie and Kevin's critical thinking cap would have been donned a little later on, if ever?, if their compensation for participating in the show had continued.
I'm guessing it wasn't chump change.
I've been their supporter and have defended them, and I stand by that especially in light of the fact that they have been GONE from the public eye after saying their piece and cooperating with Rep. Murt.
It was a good thing that they did and should be proud of their support and their actions which helped enact changes in the PA child labor laws.
So, yes, money can ruin relationships and Kate would know this more than anyone. Just as concerning is how money can impair judgement.
Harvest Moon...I agree. There's no room in baseball for any player to be intentionally hit by a pitch. A-Rod or otherwise. As far as the Boston fans cheering when A-Rod got hit, I think fans would've reacted the same way no matter what ball park it happened in. Does that make it right? No. But fans don't like cheaters. And they like it even less when the cheaters deny they cheated.
let's throw tomatoes...Sunday night's Red Sox game was...AWESOME! I felt bad when Tori Hunter went into the Red Sox bullpen. According to ESPN on Monday morning, he did cut the back of his head when he tumbled. Hope he is okay. Checked in on your Dodgers last night. Good win. Good luck with the rest of the series. Maybe the Red Sox and Dodgers will meet in the World Series. Wouldn't that be fun.
How has TFW been able to survive for 25 months with no real income?
******
My local area is being hit particularly hard by the government shutdown. This morning on the news, a real single mom was profiled and she said that it was going to take months and months before she could get back onto an even keel financially after just a couple weeks without an income.
That's how mediocre people are really living. No way, no how could they be without a dependable income for two whole years.

From my understanding, the previous week’s judge’s scores and public voting are added to this week’s judge’s score. I’m not buying it. The show knows who is going home before the show begins. They might add this week’s judge’s scores to last week’s but it isn’t enough to change the outcome. Last night was a good example. They gave the last couple their dance scores but told them 30 seconds after scoring if they were in jeopardy or not. It doesn’t matter to me though. I like the one night format but there are other changes this season I’m not crazy about. If you find anything on scoring, please share.
Well, toss me in the salt water pool behind my million dollar house -- reality TV isn't a money maker!
I guess she saved quite a lot from her long ago nurses salary.

Never would happen without being on reality tv.
More to come if she gets back on.
I love to garden and with all that land she has, she could feed her family with fresh organic produce everyday of the year. Why hadn't she gone that route? Because it involves WORK and STAYING HOME rather than staying in ritzy hotels with Steve and being pampered.

Gardening is hard work and the best gardeners have real passion for it. I don't see Kate toiling in the soil, cultivating crops and plants and trees and bushes and laboring to harvest and process them.
I don't have good planting land on my property, so no real gardens for me right now. But, I am passionate about farmers markets and local food, and know farmers who'd give a whole lot to actually own their own land that they plant on.
Those kids only remember those TLC trips because she has made them spend countless hours watching the old shows. Even the daily filming of the toddlers at home would not be remembered by the tups if not for her drilling the viewing of the shows. Cara and Mady probably have real memories but with all the trips they took, I would think their actual memories are not distinct. We get it. It's Kate who misses the travel, nannies, fancy hotels, and dinners alone with Steve. The woman has the money to travel but it has to be on someone else's dime. On what planet does she think some cable network is interested in rehashing something TLC already did with her family? She really needs to see a shrink.
BTW, I wanted to add she will NEVER shut up about wanting to be back on TV. She has seen the Kardashian Empire and figures she can cash in on something like that with 8 kids and a stepdad (Uncle Steve).
Since we're on the subject of gardening, I inherited a vegetable garden. I've never owned one before, and it seems like there are a lot of gardeners on here. Can anyone point me to a good website/book for the newbie gardener? When I Google I get overwhelmed by the sheer number of websites, and haven't found any that are all that practical. Can anyone offer tips to what I'm supposed to do with it to maintain the soil throughout the winter?
JoyinVirginia(111)-Here an explanation of how the voting and scoring work for DWTS from the DWTS website:
http://abc.go.com/shows/dancing-with-the-stars/vote-faq
The only time the judges scores from the previous week counted, was for the first elimination in week 2. The public votes from week 1 and the judges scores from week 1 and 2 decided who went home(Keyshawn) during the first elimination. From week 2 on, the public votes from the previous week (i.e week 2), and the judges scores from the current week (i.e week 3) decide who goes home (week 3), and so forth. So last night's elimination was based on the public votes from Oct. 7, and the judges' scores from Oct. 14. Next week's elimination will be based on the public votes from last night, and the judges's cores from next week.
ABC even warns that it might be a good idea to wait to vote until the show is over, because if you vote during the show you may be voting for someone who might be eliminated that night. In that case, your votes during the show would be lost.
I think with the new format, it would have been a better idea not to allow voting during the show at all, because some of those votes end up having no meaning if the couple you vote for is eliminated.
It also doesn't seem right that the public votes and judges' votes are based on two different nights of dancing. But IMO, the public votes are more of a popularity contest than actually based on dancing ability.
I read at the DWTS message boards and a lot of people mentioned that at the end of last night's show the phone numbers posted were all messed up and showed the wrong numbers for some of the couples.
If you think the sheeple/hater war is sometimes vicious on twitter-check out the DWTS boards. They can get just as nasty at times.
This morning a local radio station was interviewing Susan C. Bennett, the original voice of Siri.
Hysterical. She talked about how people think it's a *lot* of money for a few hours work. They think that they can just come into the studio, read a script, and get paid mega-bucks for doing not much. Hmmmm....
She went on at length about it takes years to become an established voice talent. How it's like any other acting career with all the associated expenses, all the expenses of any business venture. How you have to keep practicing and working to master your craft.
Uh....TFW doesn't work at *anything*. And has no sense of persistence. If it doesn't pay big bucks for doing nothing, she's not interested.
She talked about training expenses, a home studio, a demo tape, and the ongoing costs of marketing and continuing training. That you have to first learn the skills of the craft and second learn the skills of the business.
She also talked about how this has more to do with acting ability (TFW = none) and timing (TFW = none) than voice quality. That what most people call talent is really a combination of desire, preparation and persistence. Nope, nope, and nope.
You have to spend years perfecting your talent and marketing yourself before you get to the big bucks. You need to follow up consistently on every tape you send.
We've seen TFW's attempts at marketing....oh so effective....try to sell a book, go on a book tour, but DON'T TELL ANYONE WHAT THE SCHEDULE IS, and then whine when the book doesn't sell.
You have to know how to enunciate without sounding affected, and have to know what to emphasize.
TFW....that monotone you used on the couch? Probably not what they're looking for.
The funniest thing Ms. Bennett said...."Um's are the biggest no-no in the business. There can not be one single um."
Yeah, voice overs sure sounds like they're right up TFW's alley. Not.
Good scripted TV is definitely back. Reality T.V. is on the way out. There are a few low budget trash offerings still out there, and then a few of the good strong reality shows that have survived, along with a few unique families who are compelling like Duck. That's it.
That's another thing, is that she's chasing a completely dying genre. Multiples and big families was so 2007.
Creative Name, where are you located? Advice would depend on which zone you are in. Gardening is hard work, but rewarding for those who love it.
Siri is SARAH? Lol.
Tucker's Mom - ITA that there is good tv out there. We got rid of cable a few years back now and just do Apple TV, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video and Netflix. I love streaming video where I can pick and choose what I want to see and our "cable" bill now runs us $27 a month.
I'm watching Elementary right now and can't wait for Sherlock to start up again. Whitechapel on BBC America was really good too.
Color me surprised Bethenny called Kate out a bit. I didn't think of this but I think a lot of that had to do with "wait, wait, wait *I* was on reality T.V. too and that is not so." Basically Kate was trying to diagnose herself to the doctor. Not gonna happen.
@ Dmasy. I'm in PA near Harrisburg. I appreciate all help!
Boo, if you're able could you email me the amended complaint?
Can anyone offer tips to what I'm supposed to do with it to maintain the soil throughout the winter?

Unless you live in permafrost in the winter, think about a year-round garden! Yes, now's the time to plant your lettuces, leafy greens and plenty of other things that you can enjoy just about all winter long.
So if she has 50 (or so) hens and eggs coming out of her ears, where are the recipes for the EGGS? Show us some great egg recipes. Quiche, omelets, breakfast egg casseroles, custards, flan. If you had a ton of eggs, wouldn't you be thinking about creative ways to use them? I would.
Kate retweeted this platitude.
Fitness & Nutrition @FlTNESS 19h
"The difference between who you ARE and who you WANT TO BE is the work you put in."
That basically sums her up doesn't it? She isn't what SHE wants to be because SHE doesn't put any work into it.
She still has fans tweeting her asking about her "book tour". The book tour that was too much "work" for her to promote that even her fans don't know that it's over.
I've always been very curious about her parents. I wonder if they ever watched their grandchildren on tv. I wonder if they missed them deeply after TFW banned them.i wonder if they watched or listened to TFW's interviews, or if they turn the channel whenever she/ they come on. I wonder if they watch/ listen to the crazy things that she says as they shake their heads in disgusted. I wonder if during the holidays, when they sit down as a family, if they ever talk about her and the kids, or if they go on as if they don't exist. I'm curious if they are cold people, or if they are really kind-hearted people with a witch for a daughter. Only one interviewer has asked TFW about her parents. I wonder if she's banned that question. Things that make you go hmm.
Kate has finished the "I want another show tour". TV show is WORK. A concept Kate does not understand or is willing to accept that its part of the business.
What kind of a reality show could she sell?
Large families, nope, over and done. Who wants to see a large family when real families are struggling right now.
Cooking show, nope. Need to multi-task while on a show; cooking and talking. The talking isn't about the um's but giving the audience information about the food and how its being cooked.
What does that leave her? She has no talent; talking, acting, dancing. She has no work ethic; did not even try on DWTS, her own shows showed she made others do the work.
She doesn't have beauty; while she has gotten enough plastic surgery to look like Barbie, there are so many other Barbies in Hollywood. So she doesn't stand out right now.
She doesn't have the network of people; sometimes its just who you know, gets you the job. She has met a ton of powerful and influential people; but are they returning her calls?
IMO Kate sits in her mansion scheming of new ventures, drinking her wine. So far nothing has worked out. She's yesterday's news. She now belongs to the genre of "Whatever Happened to".
I don't think Kate will ever fade away because she'll always be trying to get back into the spotlight. She simply can't move forward. She's stuck in the past.
Regarding the flies. Not to suggest you have a dirty kitchen at all, but sometimes a potato or onion goes bad and you don't notice it right away or an over ripe banana on a counter (juices). It happens to all us mediocre people once in a while if we don't have 8 slaves cloroxing the kitchen every night. I had some but I washed out my recycle bin, and trash can really well. Haven't had any since. I saw on a show that fruit flies were bad. They showed putting a ripe, pealed banana in a bowl, cover with plastic wrap and use something small like a toothpick to make several holes. The flies go in and can't get out.
Molly 12, Kate is a Twit, thanks so much for the DWTS scoring info. I don't think Valerie going home last week or Bill Nye the week before that or Keyshawn Johnson being the first voted off were surprises. They all had low scores. But we are now moving into the obvious popularity contest area where discrepancies in the popular vote will negate the judges votes even for very talented and high scoring couples.
Brant, amber, and Bill Engvall are on currently airing shows, Bill s redneck comedy tour specials are in permanent reruns on CMT and comedy central. Leahs old show King of Queens is also in permanent reruns. Jacks mother is on a daily talk show. Everyone knows Snooki! So they automatically have an advantage in the popularity area. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the seasons votes go.

Because she sells her eggs. I would bet the only time she actually makes them for the kids is when the local markets can't/won't/don't buy them.
Tucker's Mom - I haven't lived in PA long, so I may be off base, but there are chances for several frost nights in a row. Not sure if it's worth the risk. But it's a good idea! Maybe when I'm here longer and get a better sense of what the winters are like. And...I've had a garden longer and know how to keep the vegetables alive! It remains to be seen whether I have a green enough thumb or not.
Great comment, Mel. I saw an interview with her as well about her being the Siri voice and she seems like a cool person. Very professional.
In so many ways, I think the show really hurt the Gosselins. I think it took Kate's worst personality traits and just magnified them along with giving her this distorted sense of reality. She's searching for a brass ring that is never coming by again, no matter how many times she pays to ride the carousel. She'll keep herself just relevant enough on the fringes of z-list celebrity by popping up every once in a while, they'll be some buzz - mostly by people who follow her - and then she'll fade back into obscurity. Twitter is her new reality show and like myspace and other social media apps it will fall by the wayside and she's not tech savvy enough to keep up.
I've always been surprised she doesn't have a YouTube account and isn't posting home movies. If she wanted, she could post video on her site and make it a "pay per download" or subscription feature. But the fact is she's lazy pure and simple. It will never happen.

I would
*******
The cookbook could revolve around eggs. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch.
I'll add creme brulee, frittata, tortilla, strata, ice cream (NOT made in a plastic baggie!), shirred egg, egg in cocotte, Scotch egg, egg drop soup, croque madame, huevos rancheros....
Kate could totally Forrest Gump's Bubba something like this.
Eh, never mind. It's got a theme and a point of view...
oh! Pavlovas and meringues!
I just saw Giada make these Strawberry Lemon Clouds yesterday and man, they look good!
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/giada-de-laurentiis/strawberry-meringue-clouds-recipe/index.html
Kate thinks the family can be back on tv, but the kids aren't pre schoolers and toddlers anymore. Their lives have changed and as students so have what is more important in their lives. Jon said in an interview the twins "have a social life and they have a really hard curriculum". That doesn't sound like they can miss days or weeks of school, or miss sports practices or games. If they get the flu, it will take a week or more to catch up, especially if they are too sick to do any of the work that is sent home. No child is going to miss practice if it means they get benched. So goes for a drama club or music practice/band. Competition is too great with their peers. Young teens want to be with their friends, they're afraid of what they are missing. Don't believe Kate was let willingly into their birthday party, that is just embarrassing. More likely it is a control on her part, that none of the girls were using their phone to get on FB or twitter. The six may not be involved in anything yet, but that hopefully changes in the next year or two. If she expects these kids to get into colleges, that hard work habit needs to be developed and embraced now. Kate needs a life coach to get her focused on what she can really do with her future.

I remember on the show all she made with eggs were egg salad, deviled eggs, and egg custard. Not much for a cookbook! (or a meal. Mady said she hates eggs) But good point!

@daisygirl2650: @Kateplusmy8 I just read on the computer that you are wanting to do another reality show is that true?

This person cannot be real. It has to be an account created to poke TFW. All of her tweets are along the same lines.
___________
Once I looked at her profile, I remembered her obsessively tweeting both Kate and Jon long ago. (she's a fellow Hoosier) Maybe even as far back as when Kate first started tweeting. She seemed devastated that they had divorced and desperately wanted them to reconcile.
I realized back then that she must be developmentally disabled, and I still believe that. Weird that she took such a long tweeting sabbatical ... but apparently She's Back ... in full force. Bless her heart.
Tucker'smom: Have you consider doing raised beds? Or large container gardening, if your dirt is bad? I do container gardening, cause my dirt grows a good crop of weeds, and except for very hardy plants(hosta, and pernnials , bushes) nothing else grows in that dirt. But, the beauty of containers, you can move them around your yard. Grow veggies in them, flowers etc. You can also use those large plastic buckets, the ones they use for soda & ice, make great planters, come in lots of colors and are cheap, and last for years.
Insert creative: Since you have inherited a garden, go to local plant nursey and ask questions. As for books : go to the book store or library, or online( though having a hard copy is better) and get some real good gardening books. Of the books: you want a book with real good instructions, & good pics, to show you what to do, what kind of tools, dirt etc. and what to do when fall comes, What type of plants too. Ask your self what kind of plants I like. Do some research, it will pay off, later. But, do not be up-set or disappointed if a lot/some of what you planted, does not survive. If you are new, to planting a garden, go to a local plant nursey and ask questions, they are very helpful? Start out with beddings and half grown plants. then experiment with seed.
Silimom: if you want that roast to really taste great: add celery, onions, garlic, parsnips, shredded carrots, veggie broth if pork, or beef broth if beef, and for one can of broth a cup of water. before putting in all the stuff, fry/braise your meat. on both sides, then put all stuff in roasting pan, and cook in oven for 2 hours, you will know when done, meat will fall off bone or fork will pull meat off with no trouble. Your meat will be full of flavor, turn meat over, so top can get the juices, once your meat is say luke warm, put in frig, next day, skim grease, then slice & heat up.
So, I read this quote in the internet and even though the subject had literally nothing to do with TFMG her current lawsuit instantly came to mind
"It's a free country, and there's a right to sue on anything,"
I had onions go bad and fruit flies everywhere. Place small bowls of water with some drops of apple cider vinegar in them around the rooms where they are. They will be attracted to the vinegar and drown. It takes almost a week to kill them all because they keep reproducing. You can cover the bowls with plastic wrap and punch hole, but I found it works quicker just to leave the bowls uncovered. Good luck.
On her chore list posted on the fridge, did anyone notice anything about chores regarding the hens?

Yeah, I've wondered about that too, but I just can't see her making quiche or an omelet, she doesn't have the skills to do much more with an egg than boil it or scramble it or throw it in a cake batter.
A souffle would be completely out of the question.
Yet these are the things that make really great meals with a salad on the side. She could put her can opener away once in awhile and teach herself to do some of this type of cooking. Good grief, she has every kitchen appliance on the market at her fingertips that would make her job easier. Use them!
If she expects these kids to get into colleges, that hard work habit needs to be developed and embraced now
******
But wait! They boys have YEARS of experience playing with Legos and feigning being on a tv show. That's just got to bolster their resume of social development and team building experiences, right?
Forgot to add: feeding chickens.
With all the cooking shows and how-to videos on the internet, there's no excuse for Kate's lousy cooking. Like Tony Dovolani found out, the real problem is that no one knows how to teach her. It's everyone else's fault.

Tucker'smom: Have you consider doing raised beds? Or large container gardening, if your dirt is bad?
************
I do a little container gardening where I think I can get the proper light. It's just not been as successful as our garden we had in Richmond, VA, which is funny, because the soil is all clay there.
It's exasperating watching a tomato plant grow and grow and not produce any fruit!
Getofftwitter 159....
Yum! I usually do the classic celery, onion, and carrots but never thought about shredding the carrots or using parsnips as well. I will definitely give those a go. And ITA about searing the meat before braising. It gives it a much nicer flavor and the brown bits on the bottom of the pot are whisked into the gravy. Delicious!
Re: gardening. We have horrible soil - all clay. :-( We've tried amending it for a few years now with our compost and it's better but I really want to do raised beds in there this next year. My sone is trying to earn money for his Eagle Scout project, so I may have him make them for me. My neighbor is a master gardener and has an incredible garden and she says raised beds are the way to go in our area.
dear creative user name; I think you are zone 5, same as I am. You will get frost and freezing in this zone, so if you want greens all winter you will have to use hay bales to protect....but that is more for more experienced gardners. For starters look for two magazines at your library, Garden Gate and Organic Gardening. They both have lots of how to sections with step by step to planting and growing. Another idea to get your garden ready for next spring is lasagna compost. The idea is to cover the area with layers of leaves, grass clippings, vegetable peelings, straw, animal manure all piled together and covered with straw or pine straw for the winter. It will reduce in size by spring and you can till and plant. This will enrich the soil and break up clay over several seasons until you have super garden soil.
A wonderful seed catalog to have is Baker Creek Seeds. It is nonGMO seeds and beautiful pictures. You have to request it. They have online site. Oh my, you got me going. But gardening is so much more interesting than all the Gosselins put together with Milo thrown in. Good luck in developing your greenthumb and remember, if it fails next spring is another chance
I just bought a bunch of perennials from Burgess. I didnt think they would grow cuz I don't have a green thumb, but I got 25 plants for $10 so it seemed worth the risk. Now they are comin up all over the place! Totally recommend them.
http://www.eburgess.com/
Yo will be shocked if you order, though, cuz the shipment fit in my mailbox! They send out like root cuttings. But everything I bought is growing and warrentied for one year!
Who was the person wanting to get rid of flies? You can catch flies with vinegar after all. Put some vinager in a old mayo jar and poke some holes in the top and put it in an area where the flies are hanging out. Watch it it works.

*****
My heart goes out to all those furloughed workers having to figure out how to scrape by without a paycheck as those creating this government shut down still collect their paychecks, their health benefits, even their health club perks! Yes, the Congressional health club remains open and fully staffed, because goodness knows House members simply cannot do without their steam baths, weight work outs and massages! To heck with the little guy.
Clearly, Kate has savings or perhaps investment income that she has been living on for the past two years. How else could she maintain that expensive home and the private school for 8 children, not to mention 3 expensive vehicles that require maintenance and insurance, nannies, food preparers, and her personal security boy.

Good scripted TV is definitely back. Reality T.V. is on the way out. There are a few low budget trash offerings still out there, and then a few of the good strong reality shows that have survived, along with a few unique families who are compelling like Duck. That's it.
****
I sure hope you are right. I know that I'm sick of reality tv and that includes Duck Dynasty. But good scripted tv (like Breaking Bad, NCIS, Modern Family, Big Bang Theory) is a pleasure to watch. I heard recently that even re-runs of NCIS often attract more viewers than first run reality shows and many other network shows.

After a couple of years of mucking around in my mediocre yard without much success, I decided to try container gardening. Admittedly, I'm not a big fan of in the ground gardening, flowers or veggies, and I HATE weeding, especially large patches. Containers make the task of maintaining plants much more manageable.
I have a great book called Container Gardening by Mitchell Beazley. It's geared toward the beginner with lots of suggestions, helpful tips and gorgeous photos.
I started simple with some hearty geraniums in the Spring and just last week transplanted them from their outdoor containers into some pots and brought them in. They're already getting new blooms.
A quick google search will tell you what growing zone you are in and that's probably the best place to start when just beginning. From there choose just a few flowers or veggies that do well in your zone and that you are partial to and dig in...pun intended. ;)

Great idea. I saw a local restaurant use galvanized aluminum (steel?) tubs for their landscaping and really liked the look. Farm supply stores would have those available, perhaps for not much money.
Does anyone have TFW's recipe for "Yummy Stuff"? Someone posted that is is basically noodles, hamburger, and store-bought gravy. I found a recipe on cooks.com that is hamburger, onions, garlic, jars of gravy, and egg noodles. It's called "Pat's Lazyman Stroganoff". I'm wondering if it's another copycat recipe that TFW copied, errr, I mean "developed".
Tucker's Mom (125)
I live in the Baltimore/DC area, and there are a lot of families who are really hurting here from the shutdown. This is a high cost of living area, and government jobs often pay less than civilian or contract jobs, so any further reductions in pay can be rough for families. It looks like most are back at work by now, but losing a week or two of pay is so hard on so many. It bothers me to see real families hit so hard by a temporary loss of pay, but TFW want sympathy because she only has help 20 hours a week while she sits around and refuses to do an honest day's work. And that 20 hours, I'm sure, doesn't include lawn care, pool care, or Steve. Well, boo-hoo, TFW! We all know that she had all those kids so she wouldn't be expected to work outside the home.
Love is in the Mix, unfortunately for Kate has gone from 7000 area rank to 8900+. Meanwhile PW has gone for 40ish to 23 within the last day or so. 50 comments pro or con do not have that kind of influence on rank.
Hoosier Girl - Thanks for the info on that tweeter and it does make sense now. If she is developmentally disabled I wish TFW would throw her a bone and answer at least one of her tweets.
Love is in the Mix Amazon rankings as of a few minutes ago:
Amazon.com
#10,691 in Books
#70,348 Paid in Kindle Store
Amazon.uk
# 63,436 in Books
#241,187 Paid in Kindle Store
Amazon.ca
#4,340 in Books
#13,831 Paid in Kindle Store
Barnes & Noble
Sales rank: 50,371
The book was only released a little over 3 weeks ago in the US and Canada. The book is available in Kindle edition in the UK, but the hardcover publishing date for the UK was pushed back from October 10 to November 15.
Doesn't look like this book is going to be a runaway best seller like Milo and her tweeties think it is.
While I realize that many people must live paycheck to paycheck, and a two-week disruption in pay can cause problems, furloughed workers will get full back pay.
Yummy Stuff? Seriously? What a bunch of crock.

And, if you ask me, I'll tell you in my best Martha's voice that this is a good thing. If, to renew itself, reality TV has to get down as low as "Sex Box" on U.K.'s Channel 4 (A show where a couple has sex in front of a live audience but in a soundproof box, and then have a discussion with the public about what they experienced), I think it's safe to say the genre is at the end of it's rope. Who comes up with those concepts, anyway?!
Layla - I can't give you the recipe instructions but can list the ingredients for her Yummy Stuff dish:
2 pounds ground beef
1 Tbsp garlic salt
1/2 tsp dried parsley
Pinch of black pepper
32 ounces store bought gravy or 4 cups beef broth if making homemade
1/2 C flour (if you are making homemade gravy)
20 ounces cooked egg noodles.
Anyone have any good ideas for a dessert using bananas? I have to bring dessert tonight for my church community group and I have a ton of bananas left over from our camp out this past weekend.
Quick - someone tell TWF MTV has a new reality show "Scrubbing In"...oh, wait, it's already been cast with nurses in their 20's. It's apparently tanking in the ratings and raising the ire of many nurseswho object to its negative portrayal of a noble profession (of course, it is, after all, RTV so more attention is given the um, off duty partying than actual to any actual nursing. Perhaps TFW could pitch a role for herself as the older, near 40 Nurse Ratched type by day who can party with the best of them by night. We know she's into foot licking.

LOL! I read from the bottom up so I'd just read White Organza's post about the UK show "Sex Box" and then when I read OrangeCrusher1's comment "What a bunch of crock", well, I didn't read it as "crock". Jersey girl through and through!
I get the rankings....but how many books has she actually sold? People, I think identify more with the "bottom line". Or does anyone really know what the number is?
White Organza, please don't forget that we wish to see the famous spiral eyed placemat. Thank you!
Yummy Stuff or more like Yucky Stuff. That recipe has 1 Tblsp, not tsp, of garlic salt, in addition to the salt in the 4 Cups of prepared beef gravy or sodium laden beef broth. You could add the garlic with powder, or even better, fresh garlic. Awful. And dried parsley, not fresh. So many ways she could have modernized a childhood recipe. Also, her 'method' of adding uncooked flour, no roux, to beef stock to make gravy is sure to bring lumps and/or a raw taste by not making said roux. There is no real cooking gene in TFW. 2 lbs ground beef/20 Oz noodles is not a lot of food for growing 8 kids their ages.
For those of you familiar with the Pacman "dying sound", you'll appreciate that every time updated crookbook rankings are posted, that's what I hear in my head.
Strange or what: since I posted to creative name about gardens I have gotten, at the top of the blog, adverts for Cabella land management, Tractor Supply and some company selling steel farm buildings. Big Brother for sure!!!!

Wouldn't it be easier (and cheaper) to buy boxes of Hamburger Helper Stroganoff?
Layla, it's pretty much the same recipe as the one you found on Cooks.com. Her's uses garlic salt while the recipe on cooks uses fresh garlic and she adds parsley flakes.
Recipes like this are pretty generic and can be found in any church or PTA fundraiser cookbook. It's hard to say she copied it definitely from cooks.com or allrecipes.com. She might have pulled it from an old cookbook she had from one of those same cookbook fundraisers I mentioned before.
Silimom, how about a banana pudding variation with Graham crackers on bottom of a rectangular pan, bananas sliced over that, and vanilla pudding or bandana pudding poured over it, and you can put some cool whip on top.
Wonder if Steve is in India with the Klines who are picking up their daughter.
I realized back then that she must be developmentally disabled, and I still believe that. Weird that she took such a long tweeting sabbatical ... but apparently She's Back ... in full force. Bless her heart.

I seem to remember that some time ago she tweeted that she went to college in the South (Kentucky, Tennessee?) and she worked at a bank. I have no idea why that sticks with me, but she does seem to be obsessed with the kids' school, where they go, and when they are on vacation. Something's not right there though. It doesn't sound like developmentally disabled (college, bank) but who knows?
I haven't lived in PA long, so I may be off base, but there are chances for several frost nights in a row. Not sure if it's worth the risk. But it's a good idea! Maybe when I'm here longer and get a better sense of what the winters are like.
++++++++++++++++
It's like a box of chocolates. I didn't have to shovel at all last winter -- a few dustings and the snow was cleared with the broom. Or, you'll get three feet in a couple days, horrible roads, no school for three or four days straight and you're clawing the walls just to get outside because the cabin fever is so bad. Sometimes it's so cold and windy you can't stand outside long enough to pump a full tank of gas; other times, you're wearing short sleeves on Christmas. I believe this year we're supposed to have higher than average precip and colder temps. I never believe forecasts. I haven't heard the woolly caterpillar's prediction. Those little guys are often more accurate than the most high tech computers.
