America's oldest reality show stars

The Gosselin children have been in the public eye since they were born. But who are the most senior reality stars?

Morty, 91, and Lee Kaufman, 90, are not actors reading a script. They are a real couple from New York. Their daughter knew a casting agent for Swiffer and recommended them for a series of commercials. The couple was cast right away and a film crew was sent over to their home for a two-day shoot. The footage that followed was so adorable and funny they became an overnight sensation. From Morty's "be careful, babe" as Lee steps on a stool to clean with their old mop (aww), to his deadpan "I don't do any cleaning; I make dirt," to their impromptu dances together in the kitchen, to their mutual amazement at how much dirt their new Swiffer mop picks up, this couple has stolen America's hearts.

Lee is a retired teacher and Morty is a retired pharmacist. The Kaufman's love story is just as sweet as it looks. Both widowed young in their early 40's. They met and fell in love when Morty's son Scott was in Lee's summer reading class. They married on Valentine's Day, and they say their respective total of six children blended together well. Morty said the secret to their long marriage is compromise and giving in. "No difference of opinion is that important as to interfere with your love for each other," Morty said.

As for what they think of all this publicity? Morty says people stop them for autographs. "We're having so much fun," he said. Lee said, "It's all very exciting."

Awww. Great post. I've seen the commercial and I love the story.

Regarding Kate's tweet of the birthday cake. If I had to guess, I think Cara and Mady baked and decorated their OWN birthday cakes. I know Kate is not a great baker, but really those cakes had to have been the work of the twins. I don't have a problem with the girls cooking, but their own birthday cakes? I guess they wanted to do it. Kind of makes you wonder what other meals those girls are cooking. It just struck me as odd.

I also read here daily - I don't comment that often, but this thread has really touched me. My boys are 7 and 8, and are starting that phase where it's not that cool to hold mom's hand all the time.

But when they do - I cherish every second. As my beautiful angels/devils sleep, I still place my hand on their chest to ensure they are breathing. Old habits die hard.
**********
This reminds me of last night's episode of a new TV sitcom "The Goldbergs". The mom cherishes being able to "squish" her younger son, but he's becoming more and more reluctant. The mom discovers how to get the younger son to "need Mommy' more and laughter ensues.
It's turning out to be an endearing and funny sitcom. Plus being set in the '80's in Philadelphia makes it particularly funny to me.

I remember the time when I became mortified to hold my Dad's hand, when "Daddy's little girl" used to glom onto it all the time.

I'm just bringing this comment over from the other post. Thank you ladies for sharing your touching stories of parenthood/ grand parenthood. I've been a long time lurker on this blog and have finally decided to start posting. I'm a few years younger than TFW. My husband and I had been struggling with infertility for five years. I have endometriosis, which prevents pregnancy and causes a lot of physical pain. After going through a round of IVF, unfortunately it didnt result in pregnancy. Thus, we found out that there were 3 more problems. We were told that another round of IVF may not result in a pregnancy. We decided to try again anyway. While we were on the waiting list to start IVF, we got pregnant on our own. My little girl will be a year old on Nov 1st. I treasure every moment and every stage that she's going through, good or bad. She woke up at 4am. I rocked her a bit, but it was clear that she wanted to stay with me. I put her in bed with us. She is snoring next to me as I type this. I'm going to treasure this moments. I'm hoping that one day we will be blessed with another little one. I just wanted to share my story. Love this blog!

I just wanted to post this article about Bethany Frankel.
"DeGeneres has told her protégée Bethenny Frankel to zip it and stop taling about her bitter divorce from husband Jason Hoppy if she’s to have a chance of rescuing her sinking talk show, RadarOnline.com has been told.
“Jason is very sympathetic figure — a doting dad — and quite frankly, many of Bethenny’s viewers and fans don’t understand why she dumped him.

“Whenever Bethenny opines about how hard the divorce has been on her and bemoans that Jason wasn’t the love of her life, viewers turn the channel.

“This is one of the major factors contributing to Bethenny’s very weak ratings.”

Sound familiar? I think Bethany and TWF have a lot in common.

"“She believed the audience understands how hard the divorce is on her. Bethenny will do things her own way, no matter what anyone — including her boss — says.”

I remember Kate's bit on Jay Leno years ago. It was some spoof on being an overbearing Mom to Leno's film crew/"paps", and it kind of fell flat.
No comedic timing whatsoever.

Yeah, ouch! Why, oh why, so it so publicly?
I don't entirely disagree with the notion because some loves just burn too bright, but you just don't say that when you have a child. The child(ren) do not need to be burdened with Mommy or Daddy's over sharing in the media. Or, even just at home.
Bethenny's revelation is right up there with Jon saying that he loved Hailey more than he ever loved Kate.

This is the part I completely don't understand.

TFW wants to be a celebrity. Tweets like that go with the territory. I don't understand why she thinks she should be exempt from it.

It seems to me that she wants it both ways.

She wants the 'fun' part of being a celebrity, but not the down side. With being a mom, she wants the fun part of getting attention for having two sets of multiples but doesn't want anything to do with the work involved.

Tucker's mom, I remember that skit too. She certainly had many chances and blew everyone of them. The stars were just aligned when she got TLC (with a little help from her masterminding). Hey, the original show was cute, no doubt about it, and people didn't expect her and Jon to be experienced actors, but that EGO of hers just gets worse as the kids grow up. I just could not believe she accused Jon of changing overnight. I know what I watched. You see, those close to her like Steve and her publicist, are continually stroking her ego because it's all about making money for themselves. She is such a laughingstock and doesn't have a clue. I really, really do not like Steve.

I was thinking about that this morning. The Oatmeal Kisses really made me tear up. I feel sorry for Kate. I really do. She spent so much of their childhood worrying about grass stains, ice cream on shirts, plastic bags on kitchen counters, chore charts, throwing their toys down the stairs and their projects into the trash that she's missing the simple things. I believe there are many here who would give anything for just one more day of taking their child to the beach, watching them as them walk barefoot in the sand for the first time. It all goes by much too fast. Did we appreciate every minute of it when it happened? I hope so, because we can't go back and do it over again.

Oh, Sherry, you are so right! I treasure the simplest things, most involving touch and smell. I remember the soft cuddles and the feel of their baby skin and their whispery soft kisses, the smell of their warm bodies and freshly washed hair. To have that back again... ahhhh, heaven. And, then I think of TFW who never bonded with her babies, who didn't spend time cuddling and touching and smelling (which she could have done with the many volunteers there helping). She was too busy masterminding her next brilliant idea of how to keep them clean and organized, but instead expended her energy pushing them away.

I wonder what she'll remember of their young lives. And, I wonder what the kids will remember.

I agree with you. I always thought of him as just a bodyguard doing his job of guarding TWF. More and more, I'm beginning to see him as a slime bag.On a lot of rag mag sites, Steve is nicknamed "the silver fox". He is more of a weasel than a fox. In my opinion, I think he played a part in bringing Jon down. He was TLCs employee after all. And aligns himself with TFW.i think they have alot in common, otherwise he would have been gone long ago.

I have to agree. Her show has been off the air for two years now. Unless you are her publicist or agent, I can't see why you might continue to hang around. The only thing I can think of was that Steve's salary was tied into her contract and since it sounds like the contract continued through the end of this year, based on Kate's comments, I guess he saw no reason not to continue being her sidekick.

I wonder, since both the original show and Kate's version premiered in April if that isn't the month the contract officially ends. TLC had also stated that the show would end with the 150th episode but it only made it to 148. This could be why they held Kate to the contract rather then paying her off to leave. They wanted to see if they could squeeze just two more "where are they now?" shows out of the family.

So, IMO it will be interesting to see how Kate is doing come April 2014 when her contract, I suspect, expires.

Amy2 said... 29

Kate uses and then tosses her friends out the door. With Steve it is different. Maybe they are using each other for a common goal (and I'm not talking sex). The contract played a part in their relationship but I don't think that's all of the story. IMO they are in business together in something that has yet to be discovered. Otherwise, once the contract ran (runs?) out, Steve would have been gone.

Millicent said... 30

First of all - I am so glad to hear these two are really married to each other in real life. I thought they were, or they were two of the most amazing actors.

Can't remember if I admitted to this before, but I actually rewind and watch their commercials over again when they come on. My favorite moment is when Morty says, "I don't clean, I make dirt," and Lee gives a look to the camera (very subtle) that says, "true." Such a sweet couple, and it makes me happy to know that at least some people really do find happily ever after.

Formerly Duped said... 31

My post did not go through..basically I think the twins made the small cakes too, judging from the frosting etc Wonder how they decided who got the #1 and the #3 candles? Mady was always jealous of Cara being 6 minutes older and from the Katie clip I don't think their behavior has changed.

Also love the clips above! I didn't know they were married.

TLC stinks I think Kate baked the birthday cakes. She use to bake cakes on the show and they looked the same. I don't have a problem with them but if you make money on the grounds that you're a great cook/ baker then the cakes should look a little more picture perfect! Oh, and taste great!

I have always thought that Kate and Steve are a couple. There have been so many red flags since even before the divorce. I could make a long list of all the things she has said and done that implies they are a couple.
The most recent is why did Kate and Steve go to a casino on a Friday night?? They had been together for almost two weeks. Why didn't he go home to wife and kids?? It was like Kate couldn't stand for their time together to end, she doesn't seem like the casino type.

No, I don't think their contract will end unless he breaks up with her!

"I just looked at the twin's bday cakes. WOS made and decorated those cakes. And this lady thinks she's a cook?"

-----

I thought the same thing. It looks like the kind of cake I make, as a mediocre mom and a non-baker! My kids love them because they are homemade and it doesn't matter if the cakes came from a professional baker. They aren't fussy. However, had I just put out a cookbook with those very nice photos of the food, I never would have posted a photo of those two very amateurish cakes. I'd be embarrassed to admit that it was the best I could do. The decorations seemed more suited to young children rather than two kids becoming teens, and the one cake was lopsided, leaning to the right like it was going to slide off the plate. If the twins made them, or helped to make them, then great...but if she made them, sheesh!

What's funny is that the fans were fawning over them...they look delish...can I get the recipe? It's a chocolate cake, for heaven's sake. Just a chocolate cake, a no-brainer.

Millicent said... 34

IWantNobu - your story is so touching (I have to go back to the previous thread so I can read what others have said about their parenting and grandparenting experiences). I'm happy you have your precious daughter.

By my mid-30's, I had accepted that parenthood was not in my life path. Then I became pregnant at 35. Like you and others here, I felt so fortunate and lucky to have this special soul given into my care. These childhood years fly by, so like you I have tried to treasure each moment and each stage of life.

That is why TFW couldn't fool me for long. At first, I did believe she was just a very harried mom and excused some of her behavior. But when I learned she slept in until 8:00, I believe that was my first glimmering that something was off about her. There is no way a mom sleeps in until 8:00 a.m. with a baby in the house, much less 6 of them! And how she would rather be cleaning than spending time with her precious children. Cleaning will wait, those childhood moments will not. So even though TLC and the media keep trying to sell TFW as a good mom, I think loving parents everywhere can see the phoniness a mile away.

Just wanted to thank all who shared the wonderful memories of when their kids were little on the previous thread. I laughed, I cried, I got up and hugged my baby - who just turned 18. *sigh*

I think that's the saddest part of this whole thing, Kate seems to be missing so much of the simple (REAL) joy of being a mother. She's so focused on "the brand" and getting back on t.v. that she doesn't seem to appreciate just how fast it goes.

Oh, I don't know if these Swiffer commercials play up here but I've never seen them. Those two have to be the cutest couple I've ever seen. Love their "real" story.

And congrats to the Gramma's to-be. I admit I'm a bit green with envy but I know my kids aren't ready for parenthood. I settle for borrowing my friends' toddlers now and then. ;)

It does seem to be a growing trend of young adults not the least bit interested in parenting at their age or at all. I know so many couples in their early and mid 40's just starting out. Gak! I can't imagine running around after little ones full time at this age.

I'm kind of glad I had my kids young (admittedly a bit too young) when I could keep up with them. :D

Just finished reading through all the wonderful comments on the previous post, from people sharing fond memories of their own children, or current moments in parenting :) So touching. Some made me laugh, others brought a tear to my eye.

I have so many wonderful memories of my son as he grew up. When he was a toddler, during the warmer months, I would finish up my day's work and go pick him up from daycare. After we got home, would get an Otter Pop for each of us from the freezer and take them outside to eat on the grass. No worries about messes! Then we would run around on the grass, or play kick ball.

Flash forward to preschool and helping out in the classroom. He loved it when I would join them for lunch, and he would sit next to me. We would all say grace before eating and he'd have his arm linked to mine.

Fast forward to when he was 7 or 8, sitting in the living room watching tv. He farts. Then he tells me, "mom, I bet I have a thousand farts inside me."

Every night, I would read to him. We read Dr. Suess books, then Judy Moody books, then the Harry Potter series. Quiet bedtime ritual.

Remembering back to driving home from grandma's house, him falling asleep in his carseat, and me carrying him inside and tucking into bed. Now this same boy is 5 inches taller than me and still growing.

Son going to the fair with some friends and returning with a prescription box for me, with each day of the week. A gift I use every day of the year.

I believe Jon has many such memories; but sadly TFW does not.

Kate says it's her famous Gosselin cake. She went so far as to say she "definitely" developed it.

hmmm.

Gosselin Family Traditional Birthday Cake by Kate Gosselin

Ingredients

2 cups sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1/2 cup canola oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup boiling water
1/2 cup hot decaf coffee

Allrecipes.com recipe:
2 cups sugar
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water

So SHE developed it by taking out 1/2 c boiling water and replacing it with 1/2 c hot decaf coffee. She actually thinks no one else gets Allrecipes.com in their email? What a joke.

And that is how the fraud Kate Gosselin rolls.

Kate Gosselin will be on @stevenandchris today! You can catch the show on ABC's Livingwell channel in the states at 5

From Kim's FB page:

Canadians!! Kate's on in your neck of the woods on today's "Steve & Chris" - stateside, you can watch on ABC's Livingwell network (at 5:00 pm, most areas);

I think HCI and Kim Weiss should check Livingwell's TV schedule. According to my cable provider, the Steven and Chris show at 5pm today is a repeat of a show that aired on CBC 2 weeks ago. It looks like all their shows on Livingwell are 2 weeks behind their original airings. Kate's show is Season 7, Ep. 13. The one airing today at 5pm is Season 7, Ep. 3.

So most likely Kate's show will air on Livingwell 2 weeks from today at 5pm.

I can understand their wanting to promote Kate and the cookbook by hyping all her appearances, but they should at least get their facts straight.

I can just imagine the tweets that will start showing up later from the US tweeties..

Gosselin Guac
Wednesday October 9, 2013 in Recipes

Kate Gosselin loves eating guacamole more than anything! So, over time, she developed her own favourite recipe for it. Straight from her new cookbook Love Is In the Mix here is her Gosselin Guac recipe. Enjoy!

Ingredients

1/4 cup roasted red peppers, rinsed and diced
2 tbsp black olives, rinsed and diced
4 very ripe avocados
1 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped, plus 1/2 tsp for garnish
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp lime juice
1/2 tsp salt
pinch black pepper

Preparation

1. Blot the roasted red pepper between paper towels to remove the excess liquid and then dice them.

2. Rinse, blot, and dice the black olives.

3. Cut the avocados carefully in half, avoiding the pit, and gently twist the halves apart.

4. Remove the pit and discard.

5. Reserve the avocado skins to use as small serving bowls.

6. Score the flesh of the avocado vertically and horizontally, and scoop the flesh into a mixing bowl using a spoon.

7. Add all of the other ingredients to the mixing bowl with the avocado and combine. Mix well until it reaches the desired consistency.

8. Scoop into the avocado skins, garnish with the extra cilantro, and serve with tortilla chips.

Preparation Time: 10 Minutes

Yield: Makes 2 cups

Thank you. Yes, this is her work, with some kind of mold that makes a really small cake, we have seen it before. 2 cakes, on small paper plates, on one regular platter. Which begs the question, did anyone else get cake that night?

As for anything titled Gosselin Guac, no thanks.

Good call on the All Recipes recipe. She really does have a talent, but it's not for developing recipes. I call it plagiarism.

It would be interesting to go through the *cough* cookbook just to see how many of these recipes were SWIPED off the internet. I can see her sitting there in front of her computer screen a day before it was published, feverishly copying and pasting into the wee hours of the morning.

That said, it's easy enough to spot her original dishes. Only TFW dumps snow peas and string beans into her cacciatore.

First, on that tv show with pic linked, up front is the stunt cake. Kate's is in back. Her cakes never look polished, and that's fine as long as they taste good.
Of course she did not organically come up with the cake recipe. She has no training and by her own admission, does not read recipes/cook books.
Again, OK, but give credit where credit is due.
Julia Child CREATED her recipes, Kate MODIFIES EXISTING recipes and it's perfectly legal to take an existing recipe and modify the ingredients and instructions and call it your own.
What I've seen Kate come up with on her own, on a plane or wherever, are dump and stir canned and processed foods, dumped and stirred and left to overcook in the slow cooker until the consistency of shoe leather is attained.
I think Kate's fan base should petition that Kate get a spot on Chopped and then we'll see what her cooking baking skills are really made of.
People who are raving about/5-star-ing Kate's cook book either have very little cooking skills and/or, want to defend their hero because they feel, for whatever reason, they've got some skin in the game.
Anyone, and I mean, anyone, with a modicum of cooking skills would find her recipes on a spectrum ranging from unhealthy, processed and dump, to lacking in balance and woefully poor in methods and execution involving how to build a dish appropriately.
The cook book is an exercise in vanity, not a tome dedicated to honoring ingredients and methods/skills by attempting to TEACH the reader/home cook. Rather, it's "Look at me, my cooking is so amazing, don't YOU think I am and my cooking are amazing?".
There are too many holes and mistakes to think that this effort was tour de force. It was practically phoned in.
Ah, life's unfair sometimes. There are far more talented cooks, with amazing backgrounds, levels of experience and depth of knowledge in things like ethnic cuisines out there that just will never have the doors opened for them like Kate has.

At least there is one "tradition" that I'll give Kate credit for following. In the cookbook she says "I serve the cake on our huge traditional birthday cake platter".

In all the pictures she has shown of birthday cakes(at least for the last 2 years), the cakes have been on the same platter.

Hell no. This is HER recipe. Ok, so she added 1/4 c of flour and changed out a half a cup of boiling water for decaf coffee. But she stood there and bald-faced lied to Chris and Steven saying it was hers and the kids make it their own by choosing which candy they'd like to put on the frosting.

I'd like to push her face into the frosting.

The only thing definite about that recipe is that she took off Allrecipes.com.

Thanks to those who sent their congratulations my way. Shel Silverstein is one of my favorite authors, so I will be on the lookout for a used copy of Where the Sidewalk ends.

The topic today makes me sad--my husband of 32 years and I have been separated, and will most likely be heading for divorce. I never thought I would be in this position, but, fortunately, I have a great support community, and my kids have been great.

I just got back from kindergarten duty in my DD's class. One of the kids couldn't unlock the bathroom door, one of the kids nearly choked on a sandwich, and another one needed an ice pack for the black eye he got on the playground. And, only 10 of the 12 kids (private school) were there today!

What is so interesting is how much kids reveal about their families, as demonstrated by some of the adorable memories shared on the last threads. One of the girls was showing me her journal, which was filled with colorful rainbows and brightly colored flowers. There was one picture done in black crayon, that had a house with 4 frowning faces. I asked her why everyone was so sad, and she said that it was because the house was messy. Another little girl spent much of the free play time ordering everyone around that was playing in the play kitchen. I can only imagine the kinds of stories, drawings and role playing the G8's teachers have seen.

She's going on another show and the best recipe that they can post is for guacamole? You all are right, she does plagiarize recipes - and makes them WORSE! Limp red peppers and olives in guacamole. Yippee. How about omitting those two things and replacing them with FRESH, diced red pepper and onion (for crunch and to extend the recipe/nutritional value) and add some chopped hot pepper (to taste) for some spice?

Coffee heightens the flavor of chocolate and doesn't translate as a cup of Joe. Cakes, brownies, mouse, pot de creme etc.

I read this in a local online article today and thought of TFW and the wooden spoon. This guy is going to jail.

"An Ephrata man was jailed Wednesday for beating his wife when she didn't address him as "Sir" in front of their kids.

Dan Kirby Kopp, 45, routinely beat his wife with a wooden paddle or his hand as a way of disciplining her for not showing proper "respect," according to investigators.

A local jury convicted Kopp Tuesday afternoon of misdemeanor stalking and harassment after a day-long trial before Lancaster County Judge Dennis Reinaker.

The jury took about an hour to deliberate before announcing the verdicts at 3 p.m.

Reinaker sentenced Kopp to 1 to 23 months in Lancaster County Prison, followed by a year on parole.

Kopp also was ordered to pay a $500 fine and have no contact with his now-estranged wife.

According to charging documents, Kopp would take his wife over his knee and spank her, so she would "learn a lesson."

The wife had enough by October 2012 and went to Ephrata police to report the abuse.

She told officers Kopp — who is 5-foot-5, 230 pounds — abused her as a "means of disciplining her for disobedience to him for undermining his parenting," an affidavit shows.

She used an iPhone to videotape a Sept. 22, 2012, beating, which was shown to jurors.

The video shows Kopp beating the woman with a paddle for not addressing him with, "Yes, sir." Prior to the beating, Kopp showed her the paddle and gave her to the "count of three to comply," charging documents indicate."

Can Saint Kate inventing sour cream be far behind?

She forgot to claim all rights to coconut and caramel, she'll probably sue Jon for that misstep.

But stay tuned: Next week Kate will 'develop' using applesauce instead of oil. Coz THAT'S never been done before either.

I agree that guacamole is all about the freshness and Kate's is off, but no surprise there. But, that's what she and the kids like, so be it.
I use roasted red peppers and feta in my hummus, so that's not quite traditional, but I love it.
But again, the recipe writing is a mess:
1/4 cup roasted red peppers, rinsed and diced
2 tbsp black olives, rinsed and diced
4 very ripe avocados
1 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped, plus 1/2 tsp for garnish

How do you measure intact roasted peppers into a measuring cup and whole olives into spoon measures? The measurements should read that those ingredients are already chopped before you measure them out into those vessels. Additionally, I find canned black olives to taste NOTHING like loose, cured olives like kalamatas. Going with Kate's substitution of roasted red peppers for fresh tomatoes (seriously...), how about manzanilla olives?
Sorry if this offends some who like canned black olives, but I think they belong at Wendy's fixin's bar ;-) Could be because I don't think I ever experienced good cured olives until I was an adult. My mom's favorite crudite was cream cheese stuffed celery and canned black olives.
My brother probably still loves them, but they nearly turned me against olives for life!
Blech!

Regarding Kate's cake on the Steven and Chris show:

On the website with the picture, which is in several other posts, there is a video at the bottom that shows the "making" of the "back" cake. This seems to be the youtube video that other posters mentioned as not being available in the US.

I watched the video. They don't actually make the back cake (or the icing), but Steven, Chris, and WOS are shown putting the icing and decorations on that cake. WOS does seem much more relaxed than she does on most TV clips I've seen.

While this is going on, she takes the opportunity to tell a long story about her grandparents. I would be mortified if that story were told about me. Apparently, not satisfied with all the embarrassment she's caused her children, she has to move on to target other relatives who can't sue because they're dead. Way to go, WOS.

Love, love, love Morty and Lee. Everything about them seems to be a memory from my own childhood including the accent!

On another note, I can relate to letting a child bake their own Birthday Cake. I am an advid baker and my family kids and friends' kids always come over for their birthday and for holidays to make a special cake for themselves. So much fun and I have all the great baking/decorating "toys." The hard part is to keep the parents from taking over because they want to jump into the fun too. I am not sure that is what is going on with TFW, but just a thought.

As far as coffee in the chocolate cake, that is a trick that is done a lot. You can not taste the coffee. It is not enough to give it a mocha flavor, it just pumps up the chocolate taste, like salt pumps up the flavor of some foods. TFW did NOT think that addition up.

As far as TFW's developed recipes, she just doesn't understand baking, cooking or human nature. There is a wonderful site=thebrowneyedbaker- who is doing what I think Kate should have done. During the summer she had the flag cake (you know the one Kate originated-ha, ha) She wrote about the shared childhood memories of these flag cakes, and then... posted the most fabulous photos of ingredients and a flag cake of her own, made from scratch with vanilla cream cheese frosting and berries/ Her recipe that follows is easy to follow and gets reliable results every time. She later also did guacomole. She gave credit to I think it was Style magazine and posted about a dozen different types and how to make them. This is a great site to look at whether you cook and bake or not. Just beautiful images.

BTW-I am still laughing at the chocolate cake made since the first premenstral woman. LOL LOL LOL Odd how true statements can be humorous.

Jumping In said... 104

I just watched Steven and Chris, boy this is getting OLD. Here are my observations. I laughed out loud when she said she "actually developed" the chocolate cake recipe, as if it were a scientific study. Next, she said (with the utmost sincerity) that she has mailed it (I assume the cake) on her friend's birthdays, and "once they have it, they HAVE to have it again"

When Chris asked her how long do you "pop (the cake) in the oven", TFW responded "until the toothpick comes out clean" So much for having any memory of her own highly-developed recipes. Laughable. She tried to backtrack by saying that all ovens are different, but any ball park length of time for baking the cake would have sufficed.

Kate then bored the audience with a story about her grandparents false teeth getting mixed-up while on a camping trip in Canada when she was a child; it was awkward, inappropriate and embarrassing, at least for me.

There were two questions from the audience. The first, asking Kate about regrets and reflecting back. Same old, same old, no regrets for TFW...ever. The second question was about the kids and what they are up to these days. Her response was that Mady's into acting, and the kids spend, "like literally" every spare minute making home videos, skits, plays, and her laptop is full of them. Mady is the director of course, and even puts it in writing in the credits, "Mady Gosselin Productions" Naturally, the kids miss the crew, they miss travelling, and miss filming, and YES she had the audacity to say it for the umpteenth time. Geez.

What was most telling though and likely the only authentic moment was when TFW said, eyes rolling, that they were going to hit double digits this year, (the younger ones turning 10). Then, she put her hand in the air, and signalled as if to say, "And, I'm outta' there"

This woman is a fake, along with her fake recipes, and her fake feelings for her children. She wants one thing only, and that thing is fame. Actually, she wants two things, fame and revenge for anyone who gets in her way.

She did seem more relaxed but I thought it was because Steve and Chris were real yappers and she really didn't have a chance to yap because they were stealing the show. What really annoyed me was the two mind numbing questions asked by the two studio audience members. "Kate, do you have any regrets about putting your family on TV" and "what are the kids up to these days". And everyone got a signed copy of her cook book. Surprise. Unless I missed something, it was a snooze-fest.

And really, best birthday ever, same teeny cake and out to dinner at the only place in town your mother goes, because it is either free or cheap. Here's a real thought for turning 13 - take the girls out for a special, and dressy meal, no sibs, tablecloths and candles, just the 3 of you, make becoming teens special. Of course, TFW would have to pay, talk and actually eat with her daughters. Why bother, Steve would probably have to come along to manage and protect.

Best birthday ever at Chipotle. Uh-oh, the twins are now too old for the kids meal. What a mom.

TFW's tweet claiming that one of the boys asked if Jesus painted the sunset is just sad on so many levels. It is sad that she portrays her own children as being developmentally delayed. It is sad that she thinks her "adoring public" believes a nine year old said that. And IF her nine year old actually DID say that it is a sad reflection on her parenting that she has failed to notice how stunted the child's development is.
Of course, I find it very unbelievable that the child said that. My children, at that age, were asking questions about what caused the sky to appear so colorful. That is if they even noticed sunsets to begin with. Usually they were too involved in riding their bikes, playing tag with the neighborhood kids or some other outside activity. They tended to not notice when it started to get dark, as that signalled it was time to come inside.

What really annoyed me was the two mind numbing questions asked by the two studio audience members. "Kate, do you have any regrets about putting your family on TV" and "what are the kids up to these days"

Paper Plates,
Maybe this show handles questions like one that Paige attended (or maybe this was one she attended and just now aired?). Anyway, Paige said they handed her a question to ask TFW (which I interpret as the producers wrote the Qs), but she eventually wasn't chosen to ask one; she thinks it's because she was on Marilyn's show.

Could someone please answer a few questions for me. In the People article (which I did not read) , didn't Kate state that she no longer employed Steve and she had absolutely no help running her household? I believe she also stated this on the Wife Swap episode. On the Katie Couric show (which I saw online) Kate said she had NO help except for 20 hrs. a week (which means she really does have help). Have any of Kate's fans called her out on her blatant lies? Surely some of her more intelligent fans, like Barb G., Leigh and even obsessed Milo must see that Kate continuously lies (I give a pass to her teenage fans Paige, Austin etc.). Also have any of the fans mentioned or noticed that Kate's cookbook is the same cookbook that for one reason or another was rejected several years ago? Thank you to anyone that answers my questions :)

Went back to see if I could find a picture of one of TFW's family traditional Birthday Cakes, which does NOT look like the one on the Steve and Chis website and got distracted by TFW blog about the " Asain Picture".

kate says....

"Clarification on my personal photo that was stored on our “home computer,” that recently surfaced and was released to the public, without my permission:"

and

"The blaring fact that remains is that a personal photo that left a warm and happy memory, was taken and misused without my permission and opportunistically turned into something that it never was intended to be."

In the legal article submitted on Jon's behalf, it referred to the computer known as the " home computer" being the one that was failing, so Jon copied the hard copy , kept one himself and then left one for Kate in a box. Jon alleges he told Kate her copy of the hard drive ( not THE hard drive) was in that box, which apparantly later ended up in the garbage.

Kate admitts that private information from that Home computer has previosuly been leaked. Again more dots to connect that Kate isnt denying the information is true, but it was stolen and released without her permission....

Jumping in (105): "Naturally, the kids miss the crew, they miss travelling, and miss filming, and YES she had the audacity to say it for the umpteenth time. Geez."

Well, she can keep saying that until she's blue in the face, the thing is we all saw how ""thrilled" her kids looked on the last two times they were filming with a crew. Most of them looked liked they were SO over the whole filming charade. And a few even adopted a quite obvious passive-agressive stance. I can't think of any television reality concept where that kind of attitude could be be useful. Or fun to watch.

1. Did TFW put the teeth candy she had in her mouth back in the bowl of teeth candy???? YUK!

2. TFW says she is making a mess.... well thats because that is typically what it looks like. Notice that the decoration was done by the guys, and they did not put any teeth on that cake...

3. What the heck does TFW mean when she says.. " we are hitting double digits and teens all in the same year?" ( The littles dont turn 10 till next year)

4. Thought Kate said she had never been out of the states at one point during her show? yet on Steve and Chris she talks about how she did a lot of camping in Canada with her grandparents when she was growing up???? hmmmm...once again saying what she needs to say to fit the moment whether truth or not...

...and I see they found that picture of her chocolate cake. It still doesnt look as good as the on on the show. And sorry TFW, you didnt create the idea of adding coffee to chocolate cake.

The chocolate cake recipe from allrecipes is the same as the one from the Hershey's website. I just made one last weekend. One of the reasons I love that cake is it is very moist. Seems like extra flour would make it less moist. My niece requested a layer cake for her birthday. I'm not as good at those (prefer to use 13 x 9 pan) but I made it. It wasn't perfect but it looked pretty good. I made the icing too. Everyone loved it. But I did not invent anything or think I needed a cookbook. You are all right. The important thing is the time with the kids and she doesn't seem to care.

I had an impromptu 30 min snuggle time with a niece the other day. I just wanted to sit there forever. That's the good stuff.

At the beginning of the Steven & Chris show TFW said she broke her toe, then later said it was her foot.

The audience looked like they just came over from an infomercial filming - grinning & smiling to excess, although a couple of the women didn't look too happy with TFW for saying the kids want a stable role model again, so that would be a reason she might date.

She didn't look healthy at all, just tiny. Hair unwashed & what looked like a dark shadow on her upper lip.

( late 1970's) My mom was a tea drinker and really didnt like coffee so she made it half and half as she thought the cake might taste like coffee, but it didnt, it just made it taste chocolatier. ( sp?) so, Sorry TFW, my mom is the genius behind that recipe ;P

And IF her nine year old actually DID say that it is a sad reflection on her parenting that she has failed to notice how stunted the child's development is.

She's not going to have more kids, and TLC doesn't want her back. That leaves her with finding religion again and going back on the church circuit.

@ calgary7, Pam was venting about how a local business wouldn't help out those in need, but would help TFW, who doesn't even need the help. She wasn't asking for a lecture in proper nutrition. I understand that there are those out there who are very impassioned about healthy foods, but that does not mean everyone is. It doesn't help to try to impose or pass judgment on those who view things differently than you do. Please keep that in mind when you make judgmental statements like this.

Wow. I was travelling yesterday so catching up. Kate just won't give it up promoting Mady and how much all the kids miss filming. She really is nuts.

The casino sighting...she and Steve got caught so the line was they were there to promote the cookbook . Total BS. And I agree those two conspired to take Jon down so Kate would be free to do her thing. And Steve, he's in it for the money, plays up to Kate's delusions, and I think he is totally using her. I even feel kind of sorry for her. But then again, those two may be a partnership made in heaven. Jon was out and Steve was in. It's as simple as that.

Insert Creative Username Here said... 168

I realize I might have sounded harsh, but this a personal topic for me. We have someone in the family who, in the middle of conversation about something else entirely, will pass judgment on our food choices. "You know, you can substitute a pudding cup for an apple. There's so many additives in that processed pudding!" I have wanted to say "Thank you for the advice that no one asked for" so many times! I think we as relatively smart adults know what foods are healthy for us and what foods aren't. If we choose to eat unhealthily, that's it, it's our choice.

I personally think McDonald's is a much more practical incentive for kids than fruit or other healthy food. My personal opinion is that as long as the kids aren't eating it every day it will not kill anyone.

I also think Pam (sorry Pam for putting you in the middle of this) wasn't asking for advice on the kinds of incentives she gives her kids. So it's not nice to pass judgment in kind of a passive aggressive way (at least that's how I read it) on someone who is trying to help the underserved.

I know some here are passionate about food and the topic has been relevant lately, given Kate's cook book release and the disconnect between her recipes and her purported healthy and organic ways in the kitchen.
I too would not pass judgement on MickyD's. There ARE decent choices on the menu, as there are at most comparable fast food chains. Given the momentum to divulge, if not display up front, nutritional content, it's becoming more feasible to make better nutritional choices on the fly.
That, and I enjoy my Egg McMuffin now and then, and the coffee is quite good for $1!
I'd say "suck it, Starbucks", but his time of year, DH and I occasionally give in to our Caramel Machiatto (sp?) cravings.

The clothes she chooses have no inherent style.

One of the rules of style is discovering who the person is inside and how to express that authentically on the outside.

Oh. *There's* the problem. Authenticity. Again.

In case anyone is still interested, I had a chance to compare the newly filed amended complaint to the original. Kate has dropped her claims under the Electronic Communications Protection Act, the Stored Communications Act, the wiretapping count, and the ID theft count. All that is left now is the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act claim, invasion of privacy, and couple of other related state law claims. No defamation, slander, or libel counts. It seems that Jon's motion was extremely effective in waking Kate's team up to the fatal flaws in a lot of their claims.

She was talking a mile a minute--same old stuff. "I've done everything for my kids" blah, blah, blah. Lawsuit was not mentioned.

The best part was after she was off the air when the hosts were talking about her. One of the hosts even called her a bitch.

"OK, stay with me folks, this might sound really "ick" if you've not had it before, but Duke's Mayo Chocolate Cake is a-mazing!"

******************************

Actually, when you consider that the two main ingredients in mayo are eggs and oil, it stands to reason that it would work really well in a cake.

I do get though that people are often put off by the idea, perhaps thinking it would make a cake taste like potato salad? Hehehe

boo, that is interesting. Thanks for doing the reading and comparison.

Does that mean that her lawsuit is very "watered down" now?

Thank you.

Have the 20 John/Jane Does been removed?

I guess that's why Bullyville tweeted he was done helping adults who were being bullied. LOL

Dmasy, I sure think so. I don't recall what the statute of limitations was on the various claims, so I don't know if the CFAA claim is still likely to survive. If it doesn't, there are now no other federal claims, so if she loses on that one, it's likely the whole suit would get dismissed and she would have to start over in state court.

Wow, thanks for that. Hate to ask, but is there a link to this? Couldn't find it when I googled it.

If you ask me, the computer fraud argument was the weakest one. Go Jon's lawyer!!!

The real sadness in Chipotle-gate is that the Gosselin twins had a birthday dinner at a place that is in no way 'special' and most likely because their tightwad mother gets all or part of their meals there comped. It really does speak to her lack of both creativity and authenticity. Of course in her warped mind it is all about tradition, so look for another best ever birthday dinner there next May.

Fair enough. They can't help everyone. I get that.
But why help TFW?
*********
Mel, it's "for the children", of course!
No, really I think it's because of publicity. It's marketing 101. Kate's twitter numbers, at first blush, and if you didn't suspect all the fake accounts, are impressive. Especially for a relatively suburban/bordering on rural area.
I know, it's unfair and really, really entitled.
On a brighter note, I suspect Quilted Northern cut Kate off from the free toilet paper teat ;-)

How do you justify turning down so many who need it and then turn around and help her??

Capitalism.

If what boo said is true, then all I can say is WOW. The irony is too much to bear. She's still spending money (while crying poor) to sue for invasion of privacy. She is the one who has been invading her children's privacy since the day they were born, and continues to this very day. Maybe they'll sue her for the same thing someday. She's disgusting - and just plain dumb.

The John Does are still there. Sorry, I don't have a link, because I accessed it on PACER, and you have to have an account to view it. If Admin wants it, maybe I could email it to her and she could post it.

&&&&&&&&&&&

Maybe they really like it there, they were asked where they wanted to go and that's what they said. If that was their preference, should she have said no, we're going to Applebee's or Olive Garden, or whatever...even if they didn't want to go there?

If they went to Chipotle because she told them that's where they are going (comped), then shame on her for being a tightwad!

I guess this is part of her PR for the book--if they can't sell it, they might as well give it away.

Thanks to all who've helped me in my venting. When I read the latest drivel yesterday, my blood boiled. I was practically blind! When will it all end? Where is integrity? That she continues to be enabled while so many are in need really makes me angry.i don't believe for one second that her son made that comment. She is a pathological liar, a

Kate also says that she didn't make a boat load of money and yet she has a $1.3 mansion and three cars sitters a bodyguard.

Trouble publishing...weird changes on my iPad. Was saying, she is a lousy mother and a miserable person...hate to even use the word "person".
Serious question: are we keeping her relevant with this blog? She obviously reads here, and in so doing, picks up valuable info which she uses to her advantage. Whenever a point is made, she addresses it with another lie.
It rankles in me that she plotted to have multiples (she didn't give birth, they were delivered from her), have the state pay to rear them, while she merrily makes money off them. And she keeps grinding away! When will she lurch to a full stop and be gone? Can't remember who said they felt sorry for her, but I take exception...
