The famous seven-pack turn sweet 16 today, and now that they're nearly adults they're sharing how they feel about their unique childhoods. In birthday interviews both filmed and for print media, the kids say they usually like being a septuplet because it's fun and they're never alone. However a few of the children pointed out some of the negatives of being a high profile multiple. Notably Nathan, who said he never liked being filmed.
Nathan McCaughey |
The McCaughleys still live in the same house that was given to them when the kids were babies, drive the same van, Dad Kenny has his same job at a metal coating plant, and they use pay-as-you-go cell phones. They are still deeply religious and still credit God for the good outcome. They have remained largely out of the public eye, with the exception of a few update specials.
The frequency of the update specials petered out as the kids got older, but Dateline came back two years ago to check in. Many of the kids were noticeably uncomfortable with the cameras even then. The family says they were horrified by what happened to Jon and Kate Plus 8, but Kenny says he doesn't fault families for choosing to go on reality T.V. because of the money. However he says he's glad they never had any serious offers, because it might have been hard to turn it down. "I’m so grateful we didn’t have to make that decision.” (Hey Kenny, don't sell yourself short.)
The family says they rarely look at old newspaper clippings or television appearances from when the kids were younger.
Happy birthday, kids. And well done, Mom and Dad.

Six kids on the honor roll? Now that's something to be proud of. Congratulations to all of them.

Yes, Happy Birthday!! Just one more comment about the last thread, if I may, before I head off to read this article....
For all the reasons stated, here and elsewhere:
"Twist it Up," with Chef Jack Witherspoon = lively, wide appeal
"Twist of Kate" with K8 Gosselin = Dead on Arrival.
The argument still holds true for the sheeple though-YOU'D DO IT TOO!
Here is proof that mediocre works!
Saw the clip from the previous thread
Agree with everyone. Nothing more to add or say, but I will.
Ugly to the bone, from the inside out. The bridge of her nose must have just recently been injected, it looked bulbous, puffy. Dark circles under the eyes, lots of zits being covered. Haggard and cheap. Her mouth/teeth have that tell tale anorexic look, to me anyways.
She was just giddy and thrilled to share her new Inspector Gadget rule, tickled pink!!
LOVED the look the lady gave her, she "gets" her.
So, if she just focuses on being herself, knows who she is, is the ONLY example her kids "crave", doesn't let anything negative distract her from being the best mommy she KNOWS she is, then what was her blog attack on Anderson about? The partnering up with Bullyville? And most notably the lawsuit against the father of her children?
Yup, she totally avoided responding HONESTLY when asked "do you talk with your ex?"
I'm betting she went home and either gossiped/made fun of that great kid with her 8, or she was pissed realizing that this kid has got the IT factor.
They merely mention that he had leukemia, nothing more about it.
When that bitch talks it's allll woe is me, martyr martyr martyr, please feel sorry for me.
The bug eyes she made when he had that witty smart alec comment? That was pure contempt, didn't like that his "sassisness" was natural and actually pretty polite. It was "oh no you didn't". She was even jelous of that kid.
Here is an interesting quote from Chloe Lattanzi, daughter of Olivia Newton-John:
"Fame totally messes you up," she said. "I don’t blame my mother for my problems, but I would never want to be famous or raise a child of my own around the cult of celebrity. It ruins lives."
This from a woman who became a celebrity (singer) at a young age, in addition to having a famous mtoher. She battled addiction and anorexia for years, and is now clean, sober, and speaking out.
The family says they rarely look at old newspaper clippings or television appearances from when the kids were younger. - as opposed to TFW saying that the tups sit in their rooms and watch their old DVDs. Hmmmm, which family has their priorities straight?
Vanessa - I'm guessing that TFW was a bit jealous of Chef Jack and is trying to figure out which of her kids can cook. I hate to give her any ideas, but her next attempt at a show may be a mother daughter/son cooking show. Wait for the tweets about one of them suddenly being super interested in cooking. They've got a long way to go from C's telling TFW to sprinkle some sesame seeds on something (which, as I recall TFW thought was totally amazing) to becoming a Chef Jack.
Happy birthday to the McCaughey kids and many, many more!
Thank you Admin for the McCaughey update. What a beautiful family.

No one will ever know if the McCaughey's would have imploded like the Gosselins if they became reality tv darlings and got intoxicated with fame and money.
Would they have given in to temptation? Would they have been corrupted, abandoned their faith and used a materialistic yardstick to measure success?
I have a feeling that that the McCaughey's faith is more dyed in the wool than Jon and Kate's ever was. I remember Bonnie being overwhelmed with the attention and not taking a shine to it.
I'm glad she didn't because her family is intact and her focus is truly on the kids in practice, not just in theory like Kate.
You can not, simply can not protest about how much you live your life and do it all for your kids when you are miles and miles away, by choice.
Kate can call it "working" by keeping her brand out there, or she can say that to be a good mom you need to get away (that much?), but the bottom line is that much of the time, she has other people raising her children and that won't stop anytime soon.
The McCaughey's got a nice house and a van and a lifetime supply of staples. What more do you need? Isn't that enough of a generous outpouring of help to give you a leg up and can't you take it from there?
For the McCaughey's the answer was "yes". Of course it's yes! No mortgage and car payment? Yes, thank you!
For Kate, who by the way, came out of the starting blocks asking for the EXACT same things (house, van), has a need to grift that never seems to be quenched, despite earning millions and being given more freebies than one can possibly imagine.
I can't believe they're 16! Kenny and Bobbi did it right and have their priorities straight. Hats off to the parents and happy birthday to the kids.
TFW is wearing some ugly huge blousy tops lately.
Breast augmentation(s) don't sell the "Good parenting" angle she is trying to market these days.
I can't listen to her speak, I get angry that she continues to use the media to trash the father of those children.
Of course it is done in her signature passive aggressive style.
Innuendo is her favorite PR tool.
The McCaughey kids look like any other 16-year old with a camera in their face- a bit shy and unpolished as they should be.
The video also shows them individually and very briefly in their own little snippet.
That's all you need.
No hauling the kids off to some distant location for a free vacation for Mom and her body guard so that some sort of tv spectable can be made for prying eyes to watch. Just come in to my kitchen, talk to my kids for a short time and get the hell out.
I think TFW should have her own talk show. It could be in front of her garage on white Rubbermaid plastic chairs.
She'll need a male sidekick to scream and whine mid- guest interview; hollering down the road at an adult is just so sexy!
They could trash Jon for an hour while a pedometer counts her swinging leg.
I can't listen to her speak, I get angry that she continues to use the media to trash the father of those children.

I agree, reader. I thought the Home and Family interview was her most passive-aggressive yet.
The pauses, sighs and equivocations were intended to imply that Jon's lifestyle is somehow damaging to the children. Saying that she and she alone is stepping up the be the role model is baffling. What does Jon do all day, smoke doobies?
Great article on the septuplets. They do the Dionnes proud and of course their parents.
On another topic, TFW posted Halloween costume photos of the kids on her site- still waiting for Shoka' s birthday and pumpkin carving post-Halloween ones, lol- and how she masterminded each. I must say they were cute although Joel's looked like the least effort was put into it- coincidence?
On the Home and Family couch TFW said her parenting style has not changed...hhmm. The spin changes to fit the interview.
She said her parenting style and that of her husband are completely different, her focus has been and will always be on the kids.
Didn't she only weeks ago state she had "no idea" what Jon does?
Is her focus on her kids when she had her breasts done? When she travels with the bodyguard? At the tanning salon?
In the alleged words of her journal, the focus seemed to be on material things and fame.....She said her parenting style has not changed.
She said her parenting style and that of her husband are completely different, her focus has been and will always be on the kids.
Didn't she only weeks ago state she had "no idea" what Jon does?
&&&&
I agree with this, how does she have the foggiest idea how Jon is with his children and what his parenting style is? She only talks to him through text and forbids him from so much as driving up to the door to drop the kids off. She doesn't have a clue what goes on. She can only speculate.
However I hope to God his parenting style is different from hers, because the things she talks about doing are NUTS.
The pauses, sighs and equivocations were intended to imply that Jon's lifestyle is somehow damaging to the children.
&&&&
I can just imagine what she tried to tell the family law judge about him. I wouldn't put it past her that she asked for no visits when this was all being sorted. I guess the judge didn't take any of her concerns seriously since Jon has frequent unmonitored overnight contact AND his girlfriend and her children and dogs are allowed to be in the same home. That must piss her off. Go tell it to the judge.

This is the fundamental difference between Kate and people like them and I've said it before. Kate is not satisfied. She is not satisfied with one cookie, she wants the whole box. She is not satisfied with one free van, she wants an SUV and sports car too. She is not satisfied with update specials, she wants a 150 episode series. I don't know what you call this, but sometimes I wonder if this is an addictive personality. Addictive personalities sometimes don't have the self control to stop and are always thinking about more and more.
The McCaugheys on the other hand, as you say, got two major free things covered and they stopped there. They felt satisfied. They could move on from the publicity happy. They closed the door and went on with life.
Why is it the McCaugheys are able to fold their hand and quit while they were ahead, and TFW always wants to go all in on every hand? It's interesting.
Laminated chore charts visible while you digest your dinner.
Directions, orders, what to do, what not to do and they are taped on laundry machines, bags of food, counters & walls.
And now ~ the added stress of their siblings criticism of their work;
encouragement is given to point out the flaws in completion or ordered tasks.
How good does that feel?
This is parenting?
I wish these bootleg talk shows would stop giving her the podium.
Wow too bad about Chloe. A friend of mine worked with her on a number of her music projects and they never said she was dissatisfied with anything, she's supposed to be a very sweet girl. And I've actually heard Olivia Newton John is a very good mom. She is also extremely generous, this was before her boyfriend went missing but she used to open her home multiple times a year to various charities and host the events right at her home. That is NOT easy. And it takes a leap of faith to just open your home to many strangers like this. Many celebs would not do that.
It is hard to be a child of a celebrity. Very hard. It is a dysfunctional role reversal where the kid who is supposed to be the star has to play second fiddle to mom the star. Mom is just supposed to be mom. Mom is not supposed to be getting all the attention that normally is reserved for the cute kids. They feel like props much of the time. I'm glad Chloe is saying so.
I wanted to make a point to put in that write up that they do not constantly obsess over all the media clippings and T.V. spots they did in their younger days. I doubt if they have seen Kate's bizarro comments about her kids watching the show over and over, but it's interesting that they said that nonetheless.
Of COURSE they don't sit there and watch all their old Dateline specials. They are busy with sports (I think they said they run cross country?), girlfriends and boyfriends, school and staying on the honor role, friends, and other NORMAL teen things. Of course they're not obsessed with what happened when they were toddlers, who cares?
And good for Bobbi and Kenny not to encourage a constant self-absorbed obsession with themselves and their fame. The greatest gift they gave these kids was to give them a normal life that encouraged them to FORGET about how famous they were. I am so inspired by them. They did such a great job in this respect.
First, it was the paparazzi and the tabloids who had Kate all wrong.
Then the haters.
Then TLC's editing.
Today it is, "Oh my gosh, you are totally not that person I Googled at all..." ~ Home and Family
So now its Google?
My guess today or tomorrow we will see plaintiff file for another extension.
Admin @18
She is a bottomless pit of want
I watched (as much as I could stand) the first episode she was on (the meatloaf ep).
First of all, I am so thankful to my cable provider for not adding this to my cable lineup! I thought the network morning shows were bad, but this one is brain numbing. Just a total waste of time, imo!
What amazes me, is that as many interviews WOS has done, as many shows she's had appearances, she always comes across as socially awkward. Her upper body movement, the strange way she holds her hands together, it all makes me cringe.
She acts like she is trying SO HARD to fit in, and yet can't and knows it. It's painful to watch.
I remember that when I was a kid, my siblings and I had an unspoken code. We didn't tattle on each other, unless it was something serious.
&&&&
Yes us too, and you know what we still have that code. Sibling got into a fender bender years ago and she really didn't want to tell our parents and asked me not to. She didn't want them to worry, and I think she was embarrassed.
That was HER decision, it was not my place to run tattling to mommy and daddy about what she did. But if I had learned to be a police officer and snitch and tattler would I disregard her feelings and instead feel glee to go run off and tattle on what she did? Rather, I feel a sense of loyalty to guard what she doesn't feel is necessary to worry them with.
The bottom line is she is sabotaging their chance at a good adult sibling relationship, one that is so close you feel safe telling your sibling look something bad happened but I'd prefer we keep it between us. Trust is a beautiful and important building block of a functional adult relationship. If you don't have that, I doubt I ever would have known about the fender bender myself.
So I guess that according to TFW, all those articles that are referenced on Robert's web page are all false? Sure they are...hah.
And good for Bobbi and Kenny not to encourage a constant self-absorbed obsession with themselves and their fame. The greatest gift they gave these kids was to give them a normal life that encouraged them to FORGET about how famous they were. I am so inspired by them. They did such a great job in this respect.

I'm so pleased to read that the kids have their own individual interests that are fostered by their parents.
Contrast that to Kate, who has never even tried to encourage the 6 to be involved in individual pursuits. Just throw another box of Legos at the boys and call it a day.
I have nothing against Legos, btw, but it's not enough. Those boys and girls should have ribbon and trophies adorning their rooms and a Mom who is proud to blather on and on and on about her kid scoring points and goals, or how cute they looked at their recital.
Much of the world that the kids have seen thus far will be long forgotten, but the skills they so desperately need right NOW to succeed in life have been tossed by the wayside, like everything and everyone that Kate has deemed not important.
Let any one of those kids at 9 years old smack or spit on a team mate and see how long it takes for their ass to get booted out. A coach or instructor won't turn their back on such nastiness like Kate does.
This is the social interaction that woefully missing from their lives.
Anyone who LABELS scissors and tape concerning their location needs to pull the stick out.
That's NUTS.
She showed her true craziness when she talked about scissor and tape placement, lol.
I actually had a KINDERGARTEN teacher who would say no tattler talers! As a five year old I found this frustrating as did many of my classmates. We would see little Johnny doing this or that and we would want to run to her and watch him get in trouble and feel the glee of that. She would NOT have it though.
Unless it was something serious she would respond with an indifferent, no tattle talers. Then she'd go back to her work. We learned right quick to stop running to her with every little transgression. It got you nowhere.
At the time it was annoying. I get it now though. She was teaching us many things. Not only don't be a snitch, but to let the little things go, or figure out how to work them out yourself. Stop running to the adults to bail you out over everything. We are here, but not for every little thing--for the major stuff, so pick your battles. And do not feel glee at reporting bad things and watching others be punished.
Why do I feel like today, she would have been fired for such an approach??
Thank you, Mrs. Leroy.
Yes Admin, that unspoken code!
Priceless lesson to learn about loyalty and compassion!
About using support and your own wits to help your sibling without drawing attention. A comforting feeling for both the one in need and the one who rescues, so to speak.
When Kate publicly belittles and implies Jon is not a good father and she is the better parent, she is not doing herself any favors. Jon's attorney now has proof positive that she is a bad influence on her children and seeks to split the family up instead of working together to make life "normal" and cosistant for the kids. I got to say, those kids cannot be very nice people if they parrot their mother. She is a terrible role model so I totally get Jon's concern about their socialization. My question to Jon is: are the kids in counseling and if not, why not?
So I think the majority of us have lived through the teen years and even if your child is perfectly normal emotionally, it still is a tumultuous time with hormones and fighting to be independent with stupid choices. I do not envy Jon attempting to steer his kids into the right path when they are subjected to living with a liar and narcissist.
I found it particularly interesting that Jon said the kids have a hard time making friends. So sad. I am thinking they are lonely people with only each other. Not a good scenario. Not good at all. I suspect the kids are not well liked by their peers.
Growing up in a family of nine, we also learned very early on not to tattle over every little thing. One sister never learned that lesson and I was shocked to learn at the age of 50 that she was reading all our venting emails to our parents. Now our parents are gone and guess which sibling is out in the cold. We are polite, but the trust has been broken way too many times. Those kids will end up despising each other just when they will need each other the most.
**************************************************
Oh yeah, I hear ya, totally agree. I'm sure the hamsters were spinning that teeny wheel inside of that huge head of hers. Shades of the cookie baking episode?? Strawberries on her invented flag cake? birthday cupcakes? That train has passed. That kid had charisma, knowledge and a great persona for tv. He was raised by good parents and thrived REGARDLESS of the cards he was dealt. He'd be great on his own show, he could carry it. My kids love watching Food Network and he'd definitely be one they'd watch. But he's one in a million. Not one of her kids, sorry, NOT ONE could ever ever EVAH manage the same. One trick pony and their trick was dysfunction. She was a side show, still is a side show.
And I still. can't. get. over. her. face. !!!
Besides Cindy, remember the time Bobby Brady became a hall monitor? He started wearing his armband everywhere and writing up his siblings and saying "A rule's a rule".. until the damsel in distress needed him to go into a boarded up building to rescue her cat. That may be the one where he went home and overloaded the washing machine too lol
That old cliche it takes a lifetime to build a good reputation and only a moment to sabotage it is often true for kids too. All these kids have to do is be a snitch once or twice at school and all of a sudden they are "the snitch." It could take years to shed that label and some might never get rid of it. Years of lost friendships out the window. Years of social skill opportunities out the window. It is so obnoxious that she has set them up like that at school. However since she can't even maintain a normal adult friendship, other than with those who are paid to be around her, I don't know how she would teach and model for the kids to have normal child relationships.
Everything she says just lends support to what Jon was trying to explain. No wonder they are having problems socially. If they are behaving in the manner that Kate encourages school could be a nightmare.
I wonder how Kate was when she was a kid. She seemed popular enough. How did she make and keep friends herself with that personality? Maybe she hung out with the mean girls or bullies and banded together with those types. She claims she was bullied. Maybe she was bullied because she was a SNITCH.
She showed her true craziness when she talked about scissor and tape placement, lol.
********************************************************************
Her eyes DIDget that crazy look in them, her teeth were clenched, her jaw drawn out, her hands??? THAT is what annoys you? I'm sure there was an incident regarding scissors that paralleled gumgate, globegate, cupcakegate,throwing-toys-down-the-stairsgate episode. I can just see it
The McCaughey kids recognize their uniqueness but don't seem defined by it. Their parents see their children as individuals, not as a numeric unit. Obviously, the priorities of this family are pure and not packaged and sold to the highest bidder.
Jon is doing his best to individualize his children, allow them to function outside the brand he regrettably helped create. On the other hand Kate is desperately trying to keep them packaged to use them for her own gain.
Congratulations to the McCaugheys' for protecting and valuing their children and allowing them to live happy, normal lives for 16 years!
Happy Birthday to the McCaughey septuplets. Here's wishing them many, many more. Well done Mom and Dad!
I can see Kate looking at that family photo of them and saying "I don't get it? Why aren't they all dressed alike? I just don't get it."
A lot of us raised by mothers like tfw have stated our dysfunctional relationships with our siblings. When you're pitted against one another as kids, how can you grow into a respectful, normal relationship. Out of the 7 of us, there are ones who try and attempt "some" kind of tolerable interaction. But there are some of us who have turned into our mother. It's easier (and healthier quite frankly) to just stay away from them. When there is a function of some sort, I'm quickly reminded of WHY I stay away.
Anyone who LABELS scissors and tape concerning their location needs to pull the stick out.
That's NUTS.
She showed her true craziness when she talked about scissor and tape placement, lol.
*******************************************************************
Again she has not changed. She must be in control. And in fact there should be a bigger word than "must." It is her oxygen.
I don't know any spouse who could tolerate this for a lifetime. Things have not changed, her absolute need to control has shifted from Jon to the children.
Growing up in a family of nine, we also learned very early on not to tattle over every little thing. One sister never learned that lesson and I was shocked to learn at the age of 50 that she was reading all our venting emails to our parents.
&&&
That's another rule of the sibling code. You don't forward emails/texts/voice mails to ANYONE, especially not mom and dad and even other siblings, unless you have permission. Oh and you DON'T talk about girlfriends/boyfriends/husband/wives drama with the parents other than to say "they are very nice". Hehe.
Here's the thing, for anyone who has been an older sibling, you feel a sense of protection. I want the baby of the family to trust me, to feel like they can come to me with anything that is going on and I won't run tattling to others about it. I want them to see me as a source of help and support, not as someone they have to hide things from. Why would I sabotage that trust? So that I can be left in the dark about them? I feel very sorry for the Gosselins that they might not have a functional adult sibling relationship someday. Because you know what, one day their parents will be gone and the only people left who truly understand what they went through are going to be each other. They may all have families of their own and busy lives, but in some ways without that good functional sibling relationship with the only other people in the world who TRULY understand, they will be very alone. You can see how close the Dionnes were throughout their lives, they understood that only their sisters really understood and they clearly all leaned on each other.

====
Encouraging them to narc on each other is Kate's way of making sure they don't band together against HER. There's every possibility they will if she doesn't nip it in the bud. She always plans ahead.
I thought TFW prided herself that her brother took the fall for her many times.....guess he wasn't a SNITCH, eh?
Man, her face just lit up when she was talking about the gadget kid getting on the other kids. It was the only time she showed animation.
Weird. I wonder why she gets her jollies from bossing everyone else around. And is teaching her kids the same philosophy. Even weirder.
Those kids will end up despising each other just when they will need each other the most.
***************************************************************
amen to that
Here's the thing, for anyone who has been an older sibling, you feel a sense of protection.
So true. I *still* feel responsible for my younger siblings....and we're in our 50's!
Some reach their hands out looking for more. Others fold their hands in prayers of gratitude.
I have a feeling that that the McCaughey's faith is more dyed in the wool than Jon and Kate's ever was. I remember Bonnie being overwhelmed with the attention and not taking a shine to it.
Well, bingo to that! And let's not forget that Kate was actively seeking out the $$ support, the tv attention, from the beginning. There was, and always has been, something incredibly warped and desparate about her, she is not a maternal or caring person.
I love my children way too much to ever let them tattle on each other. There's nothing more precious than warm, loving relationships between your kids. My one daughter took a little longer to learn that her life would be a lot more pleasant if she quit the tattling and learned to enjoy her siblings. But she learned it before any damage was done to their long-term relationships, mostly because my husband and I never responded to her tattling except to scold her. Now my kids are in their twenties and I'm sure they conspire to keep small things from me which is fine because who needs the stress. They are so close and I know it's because they were never rewarded for snitching on each other. Their friendships with each other are the joys of our lives as parents of young adults. Next summer my son is marrying and each of my kids will be in the wedding party. I'm grateful we never let them hurt each other in that way because it has paid off in spades.
What I thought was telling, was what she says to her kids when other kids say mean things to them (or something like that) that they should think of it as it's THOSE kids are the problem.
First off, I can't believe she said something like that because she's ALWAYS maintained that everyone loves them, they are normal socially etc. etc.
This must be a lot worse than we're thinking for her to even mention it.
Secondly, sometimes it's NOT the other person. Sometimes you have to say to yourself, "why am I not liked?" NOT ALWAYS I am not going into TRUE victims of bullying. But if Jon is saying that they have a hard time making friends??? Why never look in the mirror? Why not try and figure out what is it about MY behavior that gets this response from others. This holds true for kids as well as adults.
I just don't get it that she makes such a big deal about organizing with 8! kids. If you have 2, 4, 6, 10 or 25, kids are kids and you can teach them tricks without labeling scissors, spoons, toothbrushes etc, etc. My kids know that when u get something you put it back after your done with it, its decent logic. Doesn't always happen though but that wouldn't change if I put a label on it!
And Thank God they don't snitch on eachother....that's one nasty habit. Unless one of them is involved in some such of risky behavior I don't want them to point their accusing finger at somebody else. They tease each other, sometimes they fight but I know and they know that they have each others back, can trust their siblings and that's what counts!
Not to be over dramatic or anything but how many rogue government regimes have encouraged the people to report their neighbors (tattle)? It brings out the worst in human nature.
Beautiful KyPastor
Just a note about siblings-yesterday I had an early dinner with my brother. He was in the area on business and lives 100 miles away, so we don't see each other often. Just me and him-no spouses, kids, etc. It was so nice!! He was eventually eating off my plate (I'm trying to lose a few pounds before the holidays)-it made me smile, that level of closeness. We are both pushing 60 (Irish twins, born 10 months apart). A few of his close friends have died in the past few years, and he talked yesterday about not knowing how long with have with each other, and making the extra effort to spend time together. Sibling relationships, when they work, are wonderful-it's one of the longest relationships we'll every have. I thank my parents that they raised us to help each other and look out for each other.
Man, her face just lit up when she was talking about the gadget kid getting on the other kids. It was the only time she showed animation.
****************************************************************
Yes! So gosh darn proud of herself! She is seriously ill
Wow. I haven't responded to Kate's behaviour in a long while but watching her bash Jon and make out like she is the best ever parent just makes me really uncomfortable. How can she do that? I can't even fathom how Jon must feel hearing and seeing all this (if he does) how upsetting and frustrating that must be for a parent....
I remember back shortly after the McCaughey 7 were born, Bobbi had her teeth fixed. She got a lot of flak for that. Her teeth were in very bad condition and it was a NECESSITY! They also gave the eldest daughter extra attention so she would not feel left out. They are a family to admire.
To be fair, I don't think TFW was saying that the gadget kid was supposed to snitch to TFW.....she was saying that they were to correct the other kids.
She said that the gadget kid was to say, "Hey! You didn't get all the crumbs!"
That's the part I'm a little weirded out about. She seems to get off on being the boss. And is teaching her kids to be the same.
And not a benevolent boss who wants the whole team to do well, but a mean, dictatorial boss who gets his/her jollies from catching people doing something wrong and then calling them out on it.
She is one weird person.
Encouraging them to narc on each other is Kate's way of making sure they don't band together against HER. There's every possibility they will if she doesn't nip it in the bud. She always plans ahead.
*******************************************************************
It's also instilling fear in them. One or two of those kids are/will be epitomy of tfw. It'll be another discussion of nature vs nurture, that both theories are true. Some through tfw's "nurturing" (her way, her lessons) will follow in her footsteps and others through "nature" (gut feelings, questioning, knowing that things aren't right) will survive and stop the cycle. No matter how much Jon will try and be the real parent here, she WILL make one or two a clone of herself.

I think that's a great analogy
We all have our moments of "questionable parenting" where we look back and say, "I really wish I'd handled that situation differently." If TFW thinks this "Inspector Gadget" bullsh*t is GOOD parenting, I can't imagine what mental messes these kids are going to be when they grow up.
Thank you, Mrs. Leroy.

Thank you, Sr. Patricia, for teaching me to never lay my hands on anyone... in the first grade.
A classmate stood on my pile of books that I had on the floor, trying to rearrange them to fit under my seat. I told him to get off and he wouldn't so I pushed him off.
I was reprimanded severely for that and I thought "what? he was the one standing on my books!".
Doesn't work that way.
Man, the lessons that should be learned by now...
Man, her face just lit up when she was talking about the gadget kid getting on the other kids. It was the only time she showed animation.
****************************************************************
Yes! So gosh darn proud of herself! She is seriously ill
*************************************************************************
another point to add to this
Thinking back to their advice on that discipline episode, knowing we NOW know about what was really going on in that house...just makes me SICK to have her STILL give advice. You can't make up that kind of crazy. She knows that her own written words are out there but she still has the audacity to speak as though she's the authority on child rearing.
Whether or not she's being given the opportunity, that she actually comes out and publically lectures??!!

(((((((((
I had the same thoughts. I always try and work through with my dd what happened BEFORE the person said something mean.
I meant to add that it makes me think of the time the bus driver supposedly called a kid a name. I would love to know what actually happened there.
To be fair, I don't think TFW was saying that the gadget kid was supposed to snitch to TFW.....she was saying that they were to correct the other kids
*****************************************************************
Yeah, be the parent and don't bother me. She doesn't even want the stress and responsibility of having her slaves follow through, somebody else take care of it. Summon me only when you need and a$$kicking!

*******
Bobbie's teeth were horrible and I'm very happy for her that she go them fixed. She was doing interviews and speaking, and she really needed it for confidence.
I would NOT want to be interviewed on TV with terrible teeth.
Bobbie never turned into a Glamazon.

I just watched Kate's Q&A, which I usually never watch because I literally think her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. But OMG!! Passive aggressive much! She speaks so negatively and poorly of Jon. It's revolting. The pictures of the children were highly inappropriate. They also look like they need FOOD! Mady does not look like she has grown in 3 years, I actually was worried about her back in 2010 when she got smaller as Cara continued to grow. Mady looks like a sextuplet. I think there are MAJOR food issues in that house. All courtesy of Kate.
Anyway, her inspector gadget chore idea. BAD! How on earth is giving one of the children authority over the others in chores a good idea! BTW, do you think that position would ever be given to a boy? Never! They are second class citizens. Is this designed so that Kate has to pay even less attention to her kids?
She makes me ill. Will not listen to her anymore.
In the interview, Kate explains how she told her kids to deal with kids at school who say "mean things" to them. Yet in her response to Jon's OWN interview, she says the following:
"However, anyone who has personally met our children all have the same thing to say: they are the most normal, pleasant, polite, loving and well adjusted children they have ever met. Most even go on to say that they are a “a delight” to be around."
Isn't this the same thing Kate always says about herself? Yet the other kids at the school have met and know her children, so how could they be saying mean things about them?
Little Shrew @PurpleYoshiCake 8h
@Kateplusmy8 so creative! now I have to ask a strange question... where did cara and mady get their boots from? been looking for a pair
You go online, or to your favorite shoe store. Most of them sell boots. I often wonder if these sheeple really are this helpless, or if they just tweet these idiotic questions just to get her to respond. I hope it's the latter because if they need Kate's help finding boots, there's something seriously wrong.

******
I wonder "why?", "how??" too.
Well, I know how is because Kate uses pregnant pauses, sighs, shoulder shrugs and implications, leaving up the the listener to "read between the lines".
Why? Dunno. Insecurity, perhaps. That, and still trying to spin her superMom image.
I know I'm not shy about questioning Jon, but rest assured, I do recognize his restraint in speaking about Kate in interviews. Even going so far as to reach out an olive branch regarding better communication and co-parenting.
Since the boys get the basement, bathroom and chicken duties, I'm guessing the girls get the 'Inspector' role, predominantly precious H. And no I don't believe Kate changed her ways since Celebrity Wife Slut. That was merely a TV show.
Weird that Kate would admit that ditching her kids for a week and leaving them with a stranger (Kendra) and a crew of strangers from ABC was a psychology experiment. I think those kids have been psychologically tortured enough for eight lifetimes.
at this point, isnt a public access show, filmed in the basement, about her only option left?

Exactly! Not a team player, there is just too much 'me' in her world. And lazy, too. Her role is too teach, and if she can't be bothered to 'inspect' the work, well the other children should not be doing it either. She is really so locked into a rigidity of rules, written and displayed, one would think she was running a boarding school instead of raising a family. Hmm, perhaps she is. Thank god the kids have their father to visit, you know the house with the art work taped to the walls.
With regards to Kate claiming she was a victim of bullying. Her statements tend to be 180 degrees opposite of the truth. So most likely she was not bullied but was the person who did the bullying. On the off chance that she was, it was probably one event, one time, by one person. And she would let everyone believe it was something she endured on a daily basis.
Additionally, I believe Kate's high school years probably looked a lot like Farrah Abraham. She is a narcissist as well. You should watch her 16 and pregnant episode and you can see her high school behavior as well as parental behavior, before her daughters father died and baby was born. There are many similarities in their personalities in my opinion.

I get the biggest kick out of this one. She has a Kate Tweets alert and pops on Twitter when Kate makes her grand appearance. I wonder how long it will take before she accepts the fact that Kate will never read her book, much less give a testimonial!
I also don't believe TFW changes the chore chart much since Mady was explaining who did what on KC and it seemed those were permanent jobs. Yes, the boys get the crap jobs, pun intended and no doubt a girl is Inspector as Daryl said. The jobs are gender stereotypical, as well. Plus in that house a look of guilt can hang you for any misdemeanor! Is the Inspector's word considered gospel?

Paige, your fettucine looks worlds better than Kate's thimble-sized portion!
BTW, Kate's face is morphing so quickly that she doesn't even look like her life-size picture on Paige's Twitter.
(pedantic rant-- Kate's version of "Alfredo" is beyond corrupted)
I have typed 2 different post but erased both ... It's all been said - it's all been seen.
I will say this- Kate's " normal" is our "abnormal". She should be ashamed of herself. For everything.
What does the inspector gadget movies even have to do with anything regarding parenting? TFW is in her own world, which appears to be more and more delusional. These poor kids. Emotionally and just the basic lazy bitch factor, she appears to be more and more unstable as time goes by. I also watched her Hallmark guest appearances that were boring (making her old meatloaf recipe from 2008) and then faking her smile through 3/4 of the interviews/segments unless a camera panned out when she lost her fake smile. Otherwise she had her usual miserable look and facial expressions, and her dark eyes that appear tell all. Chef Jack was fantastic. His shepard pie looked appetizing and something I would definitely try. He's far beyond TFW and her cooking and also life in general and has been through so much.
The segment with organizing had me perplexed as to why anyone would buy a $5.00 piece of PVC plumbing pipe that you should spray paint, decorate and then would want to incorporate this into a bathroom fixture mounted to a bathroom cabinet or wall. I don't care if it holds a hair dryer, hair products or curling iron, that was just beyond tacky and even if you decorate the piece it still looks like a piece of plumbing that shouldn't be exposed on your cabinets or a wall.
Overall, I don't see any type of talk show for TFW in the horizon. She may as well just stream her own show, but she's probably too lazy to even try that. Of course TFW speaks about the same issues and lies regarding her children, Jon and filming that's been repeated in every interview since the divorce. If Steve isn't doing her, then maybe he can hire someone who could try to help her ease her incessant bitterness, loneliness and misery that she portrays from the divorce.

Children need to learn sharing, cooperating, helping, keeping secrets. How does tattling enable any of these traits to come out when the child is afraid their deeds (good or bad) will be reported to the Sheriff. By encouraging tattling children can grow up to have problems with commitment, acceptance, trust.
As Robert reported the Nanny writes down infractions children have done while TFW is away. Then when TFW returns she gets the lists and dools out the punishment. What life lesson is this teaching the child? To never explore, try, be creative? To try and fail is an important life lesson.

Who would clean Milo's slobber off the floor? The film crew or the not-a-nannies?
Question to anyone...
I watched Kate's interview and noticed bright blue eyes.
She does not have blue eyes! I always saw her eyes as hazel/brown. But according to Roberts book she got LASIK eye surgery. So, is she wearing contacts now just to get blue eyes??
Kate, face it, God did not make you blonde hair and blue eyed...it's ok...not everyone is...play your strengths and make the best you there is.
This blue eye thing is over the top and I thought made her look really weird...maybe that's what people are noticing as different on her face. It really is jarring. She doesn't do blue eyes well.

Kate stated in the interview, "I do encourage them to love him". Comments?
And she said that "the key is to finding fault" and "to find shortcomings" about Inspector Gadget. Wow, she doesn't even try to put a positive spin on it. Such as it encourages the kids to do better work or such. And Christina even asked (never answered) if it caused fights (or something like it...I am paraphrasing). Of course it would cause fights...just what those kids need more of.

Was there only 13 Chapters?
Also, how the heck is this site still here?
I'm surprised Kate didn't have it shut down, according to Kate our 1st Amendment does not apply.
2nd question: is there a way to reply to a specific comment? There are thousands of comments.

My comment is that this interview was one of Kate's worst with regards to Jon. Her comments and spin border on evil.
Jon is bad
The kids need encouragement to love him
I'm their role model, not Jon
Jon's home negatively impacts the kids, I can't control what they do there.
Jon and I are on different teams but *I* create harmony (really? seriously? a lawsuit creates harmony? who knew)
Here's an idea to get the kids to do their myriad of chores "better" and "without fault".
Why doesn't Kate appoint one of the kids to be the star giver? The Snickers bar giver? The Dunkin Donuts card giver?
Oh, never mind, that's called positive reinforcement...

"I DO encourage them to love him"
Just about made me sick too. First, remember Kate is a 180 degree liar. She says the exact opposite of the truth. So in Kate speak what she said was that she encourages them to NOT love him. See, it's easier for Katie to lie if she does direct opposites. That way there is no thought process.
Here are a couple of Kate's lying rules that I have detected:
1) Tell the exact opposite of the truth every time...that way it sounds like a good mom/sweet person
2) Never actually answer the simple question, but talk around it so much the listener is confused, has no idea what you said, gives up and moves on.
3) Steal the good ideas/stories from someone else, write them down and recycle them.
4) Above all else, always say HONESTLY, every fifth word, so everyone knows it must be the truth.

The kids don't need to be encouraged to love their dad at all. They already DO! I think Kate is jealous of the bond Jon has with them. It's a bond she doesn't have and doesn't know how to get. That statement just proves how unstable and insecure she is. Does she forget SHE married him? SHE loved him and SHE is the mother of HIS children. What an asinine thing to say in an interview. The woman is an idiot.

How much advice can you give one woman???
Seriously folks the woman is not right. Tell me someone who can objectively study all Kate's interviews/ tv appearances / radio interviews in the last month alone and not lay eyes on her and just LISTEN to what she is trying to sell? She makes NO sense and has NO emotion. Do you really - I mean really really think kate should be talking to anybody? She couldn't give away a free lunch!
Kate doesn't think. She just doesn't THINK beyond her own controlling ways in her house. How is playing Inspector Gadget working out for the kids at school? A classmates in the lunchroom drops a chip, and one of the kids tells the friend that he/she needs to pick up the chip; or a child doesn't put away some art supplies in the correct box and is told that he/she didn't do it correctly. That gets very old very fast. No classmate wants another classmate to be a watchdog.
What an asinine thing to say in an interview. The woman is an idiot.
-------------
My gawd. She actually said that? It appears she has a problem knowing how to love, or what love really is. Didn't she say something to the effect that she was struggling, or learning how to love the twins? Wasn't there something in Robert's book about how one (or more) of the kids was difficult to love, or was in that of one of her books?
Something is very wrong with this woman, and I don't mean that she's a few fries short of a Happy Meal. That would be nothing compared to how screwed up she really is. I'm just wondering if anyone in her family (or circle of friends, if she has one) has encouraged her to get help from a professional. The more I read and hear about some of the things that she is saying and doing, the more I find myself actually feeling some pity toward her. For her own sake, and the sake of her kids, she needs to find a good psychologist who can get to the root of this problem and help her fix it.
