The Twitter "hate" for Carrie Underwood

Twitter hate is par for the course sometimes. The question is how a celebrity deals with it. Carrie Underwood took on the role of Maria in an NBC live version of The Sound of Music tonight, and it wasn't long before she was sucker punched all over Twitter.

The endless nasty tweets, which have gone on for weeks now, include ones calling her a "retarded Maria" and a "bimbo," tweets blasting her acting ("she can't act her way out of a brown paper package tied up with string"), and photos comparing her acting coach to a wooden board. One tweet even asked for a moment of silence for the children whose first experience with The Sound of Music is with Underwood. Some tweets are funny, while others sound frightening. Underwood has even reportedly received death threats.

Underwood's response to all the hate? A mature and matter-of-fact, "I know I'm not Julie. I know my place."

Carrie is no Julie Andrews that's for sure, but she is a mature adult who knows how to deal with Twitter hate in an appropriate manner. Refreshing.

As for Julie Andrews, she gave her blessing to Underwood, but indicated a live show would be difficult. "She's lovely and I'm a fan," Andrews said.

While Carrie Underwood my not be the best actress in the world today I thought that it was a very enjoyable production. It's not fair to compare her to Julie Andrews because this is a live show and Julie Andrews was in the movie where you could do multiple takes until you got it right and the singing is all dubbed in after the fact. They also forget that this is the Broadway version and not the movie version of the show and that Mary Martin originated the role. With a little more training CU might just have a career on Broadway because she's got the pipes to be in a musical. BTW, I saw Julie Andrews and Richard Burton on Broadway in Camelot and refuse to ever see another live production of it because how can you top that cast!

I enjoyed the show. Carrie is not an actress, nor does she profess to be. Her vocals were excellent. She came across as being very sweet and almost child-like and it was an interesting interpretation of this production. I was most impressed with the voice of Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess. Wow.

I didn't think it was funny. I've seen much worse on Broadway, especially some of those gals who were cast in Chicago who couldn't sing or act. Carrie has the voice to carry it, but I'm not sure how well she'd do as an actress.

She would not be the first American Idol alum to appear on Broadway and pump up ticket sales for a play.
I saw Justin Guarini in Green Day s American Idiot and he was good. Also Sanjaya was in Freckleface Strawberry, Clay Aiken was in Spamalot and really boosted ticket sales during his run, Taylor Hicks was in Grease, and other AI contestants have been on Broadway or in touring shows.
Carrie has a very successful music career. I have to admire her willingness to try something very different than her usual stage show.
Admin, thanks for new post!

I am a big fan of Carrie's music.

Just found this little gem from the Baltimore Book Festival. Although we have seen bits and pieces posted previously, this video appears to be the official one that was being filmed. So much was wrong with what I saw, that I'm not sure where to even begin the list. From her hair, to the most awkward presentation (um um um!), to the obvious editing, and the very sporadic applause at the end, it's all various degrees of awful. For those lacking the willpower to force themselves through watching this debacle, I suggested giving the first 5 minutes and her pointing knife reference a go. It cannot be described!

I sat through 30 mins and couldn't watch anymore, but that doesn't mean squat. A lot of people were enjoying it (had laptop open on fb while watching)
The thing with the twitter hate is when it's being directed at a full fledged narcissist as opposed to one who's not. When it's being directed at someone who DEEP DOWN knows they ARE nothing, ARE guilty of heinous actions, and ARE genuinely paranoid and delusional, they deflect OR go after you. If someone tells tfw on twitter "you're a child abuser, animal abuser" etc (in more colorful language of course) in her mind she HAS to stand up because it's a threat to the IMAGE she "thinks" she's perfectly portrayed. It escalated to the lawsuit etc. because PEOPLE DIDN'T BACK DOWN.
Carrie on the other hand is a good person-the hate will not bring out the ugly in her. Just like that restaurant ower? The one on Ramsey's show that you did a post on Admin? Unstable, right?

I watched "The Sound of Music" last night. I had a lot of doubts going in and, unfortunately, I still do. I like Carrie Underwood. She has a lovely voice and knows what to do with it, but I didn't think she'd be up to doing a Broadway caliber musical, either vocally or with the acting. The part of Maria requires tremendous range, and she just wasn't up to it. Her singing was good but the acting was wooden. She had no chemistry with Steven Moyer (I didn't care much for him as The Captain, either) and there was just no "spark" to her performance. Audra McDonald blew her completely out of the water vocally, but then Audra McDonald can blow just about anyone out of the water. The kids were good, the staging was interesting, but I've seen better productions.

Tucker's Mom -- Florence Henderson was in her 20's when "The Sound of Music" was first produced. She could, possibly, have played Liesl. I don't know. However, I do know that she played Maria in a touring production, because I saw the show. This was sometime in the late 70's.

oh good, I thought it was about Carrie! Ugh!
OMFG that was painful. You're right, 5 mins is enough, too much in fact. If she said "little little little pieces" "chop up very very very fine" one more time! And there you have it, 'trying' to be funny about the knife? See how it comes across? So uncomfortable for the viewer AND for her, she looked so out of her comfort zone, this is NOT for her.

NJ Gal, I hear you. I saw a handful of iconic actors who originated roles in Broadway plays, including Yule Brynner in The King And I, and Richard Harris in Camelot.
Joel Grey had his understudy fill in when I saw Cabaret though, so bummer there!
As a little girl, Mom used to take me into Philly to see plays and "do lunch". What a treat, especially the train ride!
She definitely instilled a love of theater and performance in me.

To add, we saw Fantasia in The Color Purple and she left it all on the stage, boy! I mean, she was wrung out by the (tearful*) end and I appreciated her putting her heart and soul into her performance.

*I've seen the movie several times and love it, so I KNeW I was going to cry at the end of the play. To that end, I stuffed some tissues in my bra so I'd be able to access them easily and not rifle through my purse when I needed them.
DH gives me the "oh boy, she's going to cry now" look, which I did. Then, I hear "sniffle, sniffle, sniffle" coming from the row behind us, so I turned around slightly to see who was balling with me, and it was a handful of African American MEN, sobbing next to their dates!
DH got the "See! I'm not the only one!" look.

As far as the dental issue, interesting that Kate AND Milo felt the need to explain. See what I have been saying about those two working in concert? Hey, Milo... So what's the going rate for a SYCOPHANT these days? Sick.

TLC stinks said... 18

Excerpt from online blogger:

Sycophants and narcissists go together like bread and butter: The narcissist is the bread and the sycophant is the butter!

A sycophant is a toadying flatterer, a “suck up” or a “brown noser.” The sycophant doesn’t just want to get along, they actually enjoy playing the role of the loyal underling to anyone whom they perceive as having influence or authority.

The narcissist (described in previous rants) requires infinite, unmitigated, constant approval from others. They cannot tolerate the slightest bit of criticism or even dissent. They see reflections of themselves everywhere and in everything they see. If they form an attachment to an idea, then they can become hostile to anyone who has an opinion that doesn’t support that idea because they see the idea as an extension of themselves. Therefore, criticism of that thing becomes, in the narcissist’s mind, a criticism of themselves.

Because the narcissist requires constant approval, he (or she) is often attracted to certain positions where he can receive the unquestioned, unchallenged worship of sycophants. The list is myriad.

Both the narcissist and his counterpart, the sycophant, are attracted to structures and order. They both despise dissent.

Sycophants are conformists; they’re like mercury (quicksilver). They can mold themselves to any authority figure or any social group.

Narcissists are attracted to positions of power and authority.

Sycophants are conformists who worship those with perceived power and authority.

This pretty much sums up my feelings about Carrie U in TSOM last night.
I was pulling for her, because she knew she'd face adversity and challenge herself in ways she probably didn't even fathom to begin with.
Carrie's acting is just there. It is high school production level, but rose to community theater when she sang.
I know that sounds harsh, but I do not mean to cut her down. I have no idea whether or not more acting experience under her belt before the live TSOM was televised would have helped.
She certainly did jump into the deep end on many levels, and did it with integrity and hard work. That was obvious.
Carrie looked very stilted and nervous in her first scene, and I thought she'd find her stride, but I don't think she ever did.
The scene where she meets the Von Trap children and begins singing with them while scaling the grand staircase of the set was really worrisome.
Carrie could not breathe! Her nerves just got her and she wasn't using her diaphragm correctly and her throat was closing and oh dear!
The Captain was cold and wooden, but could sing.
The Countess was good, too.
Most of the children can sing and act, but looked like they were acting on stage, not a tv set, so their glances went here, there and everywhere, projecting up to a Mezzanine that wasn't there.
Eh, oh well. I watched it all because I was committed and was pulling for the entire cast.
Probably not going to be seen again in my home, but I sure do want to watch the movie sometime very soon.

BTW, the cast of Matilda is on the Today Show this morning, including Mara Wilson. A Blue Ray edition is out.
All the kids in the movie were invited to a Tea Party by Danny and Rea for a reunion and special footage for the Blue Ray.
Not much discussed besides the movie and it's message, which despite its subversive platform, is positive.

Tucker's Mom said... 22

I watched the Couples Therapy promo and it just reinforces my lack of support for Jon doing this. Again, still keeping a somewhat open mind until it airs, but these teasers are just not something you want your child to see:
"I wasted my whole f*cking life", as Jon demolishes the set in some sort of pseudo-cathartic, drama-producing "therapy" session.
Ugh.
Oy Vey Schmear.

I've seen a lot of good and bad on Broadway. I didn't say that she should play Maria but I could see her doing a show. Thanks for the (painful) link to Kate's cooking demo at the book fest.
Whew, she's nervous and needs intensive media training in this area. I can now see clearly why she did not do a cooking demo on the Today Show, and her other demos were basically putting the finishing touches on things like cake, vs. taking a recipe from beginning to end, like the Shepherd's Pie kid did.
(pedantically inserting that it is actually Cottage Pie)
Kate makes the point that she chops all the vegetables very small to hide them, and for her kids' ages, that's something you shouldn't have to do anymore.
Moreover, Kate says she doesn't cut up food correctly because she's not a chef, but she doesn't even hold the knife correctly. If she injures herself while cutting, it's not because the kids distract her (as she claims), it's because the knife is unstable!
I'm not a chef, but know that knife skills are important and being that knifes are (or should be) very sharp, you really have to have some discipline to learn how to use them correctly.
I think I've developed carpal tunnel syndrome just watching that demo ;-)

T. 10.....That cooking demonstration was painful to watch on so many different levels. When she was chopping the cucumber and going on about how much they all love it, I swear it was zucchini she was cutting up, (although I always use English cucumbers, and might be wrong).

Without the kids to prop her up she has nothing original to offer on her own. Watching her make the simplest of pasta salads without being embarrassed, just shows how she believes she can still trade on her ex-husband's name and old television shows. Sad, it really was cringe-worthy.

I get that Kate wanted to start in the shallow end of the pool, for her own comfort level. But, she ought to have taken the audience in mind, and their general intelligence level.
Pasta salad with a bottle or packet of dressing is something anyone with a modicum of cooking skills can do. Boiling water-level skill.
It's insulting and wasting people's time.
Kate doesn't seem to get that. She seems to want to skate by on her old shows' popularity and being a mom of HOM's. It's not enough.
The audience, who bought the book, took the time out of their day to come and see her and maybe even want to uh, learn something, deserve better.
At it's conception, the idea of making a basic pasta salad simply wasn't good enough to begin with, let alone the desecrated delivery that Kate stumbled through.
I've done quite a bit of teaching and speaking in my career, and as a mentor, I would always tell people to never put yourself down, or interject superfluous buffoonery and "inside" jokes because it puts your insecurities at the forefront.
No one gets it and no one thinks you're cute.
Leave "cutesy" at the door, don your authoritative pants, and do the job that you are there to do. From there, you can build on pleasantries and anecdotes and you feel more ease, and less nerves.

Tucker's Mom said... 33

Anyone catch how Kate threw her mom under the bus in that demo?
She points with a knife and says it's because her mom did that, and she wasn't saying it with any endearment whatsoever.
Nice.

I watched TSOM, and agree that Carrie Underwood's acting could use some improvement. With that said, we have to remember that this was a live TV production and is quite different from both a movie or a Broadway show. In a movie, there are retakes and editing. In a Broadway show, you don't get close-ups of the actors and don't see their facial expressions. So it's hard to compare a TV show to those venues.

I watched it for what it was--a live TV performance. Over all, I enjoyed it. Yes, it could have been better, but I think it's unfair to compare to the iconic movie or a Broadway production.

I think the whole cast did great, especially under the pressure of it being a live performance.

T said... 38

Yes, the demo was certainly excruciating to watch, and it actually gets worse if you watch the related book fair cooking demo's in contrast. In comparison to the posted demo's of Brian Botanio (sp?) and Daphne Oz, it becomes evident how unprepared she was. She should have had plenty of time to rehearse, since this was not a last minute engagement. Her ability to consistently contradict herself (often within the same sentence) continues to offend me: "I chop the veggies very small so the kids won't even know they're there", "the kids love to help chop the veggies", um What? Why are you hiding them after they chopped them? Ugh! She makes no sense, I don't even know why I try. On second thought, I do know why I try: like many of you, I think that I am desperately hoping that one of these days she will learn from her mistakes and actually do better for the sake of her children. I find it so sad that she lacks the self reflection needed to become both a better parent and a better person. Jon also continues to disappoint me, but his efforts to become a better father and learn from his mistakes are more obvious. If she's trying to grow, it's not showing.

Also, whatever she is doing to her face must stop. Only her lower chin/jaw area were moving and the rest of her face was completely frozen. Her tenseness was causing grimacing and jaw clenching, but her face is just so frozen that it just looked really weird. I found it distracting.

PS. I couldn't believe how little the amount of feta cheese was that she incorporated in that great big salad. It was pre-measured, and all she had to do was sprinkle it in , but c'mon, it couldn't have been more than 1/4 cup at the most!

There was a time when TFW waxed poetic about how many cooking shows she and the kids watched on The Food Network. After watching that demo one can see why she was told not only no but HELL NO! That was painful to watch. Funny that she doesn't tweet about watching those cooking shows any more. I guess "mommy's cooking show" will have to stay in her kitchen with an audience of 8 (well maybe 9 if Zorro is allowed to watch too because we know Soka won't be in there). Since she's the new zoo mom maybe her next desperate attempt to stay relevant will be all about "cooking for critters". Her super smart bird will be rating the greets she makes for him. Wait for it.

The other thing if you speak to an audience is to try not to "backfill" your story. "Oh, you need to know this detail, or that minutiae for the story to go on ". No, pretty much never.
Kate talks about that Cara's Bean Bake or whatever it's called and she can't get through the story without continuously back-narrating it by backing up and explaining, then going forward, then backfilling, then going forward.
She's got to get out of her own head and think about what the listener is hearing, which is gobbledygook.
It's painful to watch Kate go back and forth and back and forth. She gets no traction.
It's non sequitur hell.

I liked Carrie's performance. I agreed with NGal's comments.

The live performance was supposed mimic a theatrical version, so it was very theatrical acting, which is very different from tv acting. That said, I did think Carrie was only "eh" on the acting part (the script for Maria's part was very "eh" too, some of the lines were pretty flat).

But I love her voice. She can give me chills sometimes she's so good, but I thought the orchestra was so loud that it drowned out her voice (and Audra's and everyone else's too) and I didn't have any chill moments during this.

But it is what it is. It wasn't supposed to rival Julie's performance. It wasn't supposed to be a replacement. It was supposed to be a new version of it. And I thought it was entertaining.

All that being said, Twitter is a cesspool. My husband enjoyed following the twitter criticism last night, but it just made me sad. It's clear that people post on twitter solely to criticize in a way that they think is funny and will get them attention. Do you know that one person at a party whose TRYING to be the life of a party? That's how I feel about twitter. People on it are trying too hard to get attention.

BTW, someone upthread commented that Kate could benefit from some coaching to help with her public speaking and media skills. Well, she has already been through that. I recall that she did that back in CA years ago while she was hopping around cities with Steve because when she came back (I don't recall what exactly the coaching was called), she told Jon the marriage was over. They must have taught her to be animated with her hands apparently.

Lord have mercy, TFW looks like she's making up things to say while onstage at the book festival. She spent the whole time chopping vegetables and talking about chopping vegetables into little little pieces. What is wrong with her? Unprepared, unoriginal, unfunny, uncomfortable....she is way worse than mediocre. I don't think she really has the capability to function on her own. I'm astounded with her willingness to make an ass of herself. That cooking performance reminds me of those dreams you have when you realize you have a test to take and you haven't studied or gone to class. Only TFW has done it to herself. Her humiliation, if she was even cognizant that she should be humiliated, was preventable. There's something really wrong with her; I think she seriously needs help for her mental illness

Very interested in that article about how kates stealing money from her kids. They say there is a source but would be more believable if they named the source. Could she possibly be at of money? I know this is like beating a dead horse but this aspect of her life really does interest me. Just think if that is true...will her kids sue. Can't wait until the kids are old enough to start asking questions about their money. Another thing that's I find fascinating is not IF but WHEN one of the kids wants to live with Jon. Theres no way all 8 will want to stay with Kate. The odds are against her. She will take that as the ultimate betrayal and probably cut that poor child out of her life. I foresee a lot of heartache in that family. Her controlling days are numbered.

I think the show was wonderful last night. It was nice to have something on TV a family could watch. Too bad it was on a school night though. Carrie can sing! As far as Broadway, a singer can learn to act but an actor can't learn to be a great singer. Either you have the pipes or you don't. All the actors put in months of hard word to pull that off last night.

If you watch earlier shows/couch interviews, you'll see she keeps her hands down and doesn't splay and waggle her fingers at all.

================

Considering it was not a "live" orchestra, but pre-recorded music , I think a lot of that had to do with the sound engineering. Also, during the production there was noticeable buzz that could be heard.

I still think it was a good show, and it was especially something different. It was good family entertainment, despite some of the flaws.

I wonder if Kate watched. In the commercials for Walmart, they featured a real family with 12 kids from Kansas. I can imagine her giving Julie Carson May a piece of her mind for not getting her and her kids that gig.

I thought the production was fine for a live television show. I was disappointed in the "Something Good" scene. There was no passion, no chemistry...very bland. Of course, after seeing Christopher Plummer as the captain, everything else pales in comparison. That was such a magical moment between the two of them.

Agree High Sodium. I liked that there was a kid friendly show on during prime time. It's rare on the non-cable networks (abc/nbc/fox/etc...). I did wish it started at 7p so more kids would have been able to watch it.

Kate is a twit, I didn't know that about the orchestra. I assumed it was live and that's why the sound was off. That makes me upset. I couldn't hear half the singing, especially during the crescendo (is that the right word?) moments. That's when Carrie's voice would shine and they drowned her out!

On another note, the stairs bit was kind of amazing. Bet dollars to donuts that Julie Andrews never had to go up and down those stairs in one take! Of course Carrie would be out of breath. That scene would be really hard to do live! I gave her credit for it. She got through it whereas I'd be lying in a dead heap on the floor after the first verse.

Lukebandit, there's a lot to disagree on with Michelle Duggar, those comments from her aren't one of them (for me, they may very well be for you and that's okay). I do think it's ridiculous that she should instill fear of immodesty into 5 year olds who don't know any better. But teaching kids to be modest is nothing new, and wearing long skirts is nothing new for certain religious sects (including hers).

If we are going to criticize her, I'd want to focus on the options the kids have. It's fine to raise your kids in whatever religion you see fit, and it's fine to homeschool them, but what happens when they don't necessarily want to follow your way of life? That's what I want to ask her, do those kids have any choices? Are they given enough tools to decide for themselves what way they want to live in their adult lives? Or are they led down one path with horse blinders on and an inability to know that there are other paths out there?

Formerly Duped said... 78

Carrie was very humble about the role and even asked Julie Andrews who graciously wished her well. People should act as maturely as these two fine ladies did. We DVR'd SOM last night as DH was traveling, he is the one who wants to see it. I like Carrie Underwood as a country western singer, and from the little I have seen in commercial clips, I have no expectations for any acting ability. But brava to her for taking on a big project out of her comfort zone. She has spoken in interviews about how scary that was, and doing this in real time. And yes, it's nice to have a family friendly show this season, besides reruns of Charlie Brown and the Muppets. I was semi watching the tree lighting in NYC show the other night, and was sort of taken aback by the amount of skin and ta-tas popping out of cocktail dresses in the musical numbers. Kelly Clarkson OTOH was adorable.

That cooking demo is boring, moronic and deplorable. I wonder if any of the kids were close by when she would wield the knife around? Did you see her say that about her mother and the knife and her face got stern and she looked down. Looks like she has issues with her mother. She said that her mother used to do that. kate said that she had been known to do that with the knife. To me that is a threatening manner and if you have been known to do that, to me that is on a regular basis.

She said that she grabs some of the kids when they are running through the kitchen to be her sous chefs. She said C was her sous chef and C got the younger kids to be the sous sous chefs and make them do things C didn't want to do.

I thought the kids were only allowed to be in the kitchen at a certain specific time and would not let them come in until that time. UGH!

She also said that the boys and the chickens were their man zone? And that she carries the chicken feed bags, 50lbs.? and such. I have only seen it once where she was carrying it and that was on CWS. She had to do it for the record like, see, I do it all! The boys were shown on CWS, 2 of them were struggling to carry it, they were hunched over, one had the bottom in the front, and the other had the top in the back. That really upset me. She should hire a college kid or a man to do this or buy several bags and buy big plastic garbage cans with lids and fill them up with the feed and have a scoop, so all the kids can get the feed and put it in a bucket and feed them and save their growing backs.

Why does she have to make it so hard and brutal on them?

The uhs, ums, the K8 Salad, the K8 Salad, the K8 Salad. Don't worry K8, no one wants the copyright on that! Another lie: She said she doesn't eat red meat. Wow. How mighty the NOBU has fallen! She scarfs Kobe Beef, the most expensive red meat in the world. Isn't it suppose to be rare, but she orders it med. well or well done? IIRC.

Googled her concierge list: Wednesday dinner- Kobe beef tips (extremely tender steak- medium to medium well). For the Adults. The only Adults are her and Steve and maybe someone with the kids. Busted. Again.

Did she say she puts lots of feta cheese with the K8 salad or tons? When she put the feta in the bowl, the plastic cup looked like a 30cc medicine cup.

I couldn't believe what she said about the big silver mixing bowl. She said she wished she had that big of a bowl in her kitchen. Lie. She would never, ever need a bowl that big to mix food up in because she does not fix large quantities of food to cook and feed her kids and have leftovers.

It was so hard to watch. Her knife skills were horribly bad. You are suppose to turn in your fingers into your palm when cutting. They showed that sweet young man chef on H & F chopping and his were turned in. She was so abyssal doing that demo, no wonder she has to have Steve guide her hips through an airport. She can't do it on her own.

New post by Robert. About Nelson Mandela.

He posted a picture of his jail cell and you can see out the window. He was there 18 years.

My first 8 months in a Nhome was a room, with the small window behind me. I never got to go outside there, unless I was taken to the hospital. Now my view has been limited very, very bad for the last almost 7 years. The curtain goes half way over to the window air conditioner, then above it outside is a satellite dish, the building out in the yard, then a huge pine tree with a few sections of openness so the setting sun can shine through. I love the sunsets of teal blue and orange. One night the moon was perfectly in a opening of the tree limbs and it was so beautiful.

When I was coming back one night from the clinic, the amb guys got me out of the truck and we were going on the sidewalk and I noticed the moon it was full and bright, really bright and it was above a grove of pine tree tops. It reminded me of the classic, Follow the bouncing ball. It looked like it was going to bounce to the music on top of those tree tops! I asked them to please stop and let me look at it for a minute, but they were guys in a hurry, so I got about 2 or 3 seconds. I saw a couple of stars before I got into the building.

The next morning, on FB, one of my FB friends had posted a picture of the exact moon scene that I had seen! I couldn't believe it. I told her, you just don't know what that means to me.

kate does not know how good she had it, then acts like a total )( and threw it all away. Oh, she said that not having to cook by grabbing leftovers from her fridge was like a vacation for her.

What a liar.

Busted again.

I think TFW can take money out of the kids' trusts for their necessities, but then she could pretty much call everything a necessity and make them pay for it. The mortgage, utilities, the 3 cars (the kids need transportation and she needs to run errands to get the things they need),tuition, bus fees, lawn boys and pool boys to maintain "their" property, food, clothes, dental, medical, orthodontics. All of it can come from the kids' money. We probably won't have any idea what she is/is not taking until the kids are grown and trying to access their money. That won't be for a few more years.

I don't really understand why some people get so worked up over such things, like Carrie Underwood playing the role of Maria in a stage version of The Sound of Music. Maybe some people just have pent up rage against the world in general, and vent it wherever they can? But seriously, it's just a stage version of a musical. Even if she were absolutely horrible (which I doubt), I can't imagine becoming enraged over this. How does it affect my life? (It doesn't.) The only person who maybe should be upset would be another singer who wanted the role but didn't get it.

I truly value the internet and all the information it brings to my fingertips. But I sometimes feel it is a Pandora's Box we opened.

This is what pisses me off. Those people in the audience who think Kate walks on water probably walked away thinking their some sort of slacker.
Kate does cook, I believe, but the rest, she "oversees". No really deep, full house cleaning, no ironing, no lawn mowing, no large grocery shopping that renders her house a "grocery store" where she always has every single ingredient she needs for any recipe in her book.
Here's what really makes you a good cook; being able to improvise and make substitutions.

Lukebandit, totally agree with your comments here. I have 3 school aged kids and I cook daily - I prepare breakfast, lunch (3 out of the 5 days) and dinner. I do a lot of chopping of vegetables.

Over time, my chopping and knife skills have gotten very good. I am fast, I can chop, dice, mince without any problem but it's because I've been doing it for a while now (my kids are 7, 8 and 13). TFW however, was looking like a rookie with the knife. Contrary to what she says about being in the kitchen all the time and cooking and chopping all the time, I don't believe for a minute that she's always in the kitchen.

Ingrid said... 103

If TFW's salad in demo is mostly vegetables chopped very very teeny weenie itsy bitsy "insanely" tiny pieces, how is that "hiding" them? It is 95% vegetables!! It is different if you hide vegetables in say meatloaf (her recipe she did on tv years ago had a cup each of different ones) or ground up veggies in a cooked up sauce like that canned spagetti type stuff on tv ads (can't remember if it is chef boy ar dee kind of pasta meal?) A vegetables salad whether cut bigger or smaller is still vegetables. The kids must realize what it is.

I made a vegetable pasta salad for Thanksgiving dinner because I hadn't had it for years. I chose a few cut up chunky veggies to put in with curly pasta. ( and of course black olives) Added zesty italian dressing and even though I couldn't find the specific McCormicks salad seasoning that recipes mentioned it was still good and easy. I wouldn't brag about it and put it on a cooking demo.

That was a revelation when I "discovered" it years ago.
There's nothing wrong with using a bottled or packet dressing for pasta salad, but it would have been nice to just show ONE cooking skill, such as making a vinaigrette.
If Kate would have explained the basics of making a vinaigrette, the audience would have walked away with something concrete to work on in the kitchen.

Of all her descriptive "_ly" words the one that drives me nuts is insanely.

What takes me over the ledge is when she says, "and I was like and then they were like and then I was like..." in one sentence. What a completely, illiterate doofus.
She has to learn how to control that hand flapping too. It's is SO distracting. And the bull**it about not having her pantry stocked when she was home with the little kids and having to learn how to cook with what she had on hand. Are you kidding me? That control freak not having everything she needs when she needs it? Im-freaking-possible. Let's not forget how often craft services was at her beck and call back then. I remember an episode when they were having a Christmas meal/brunch and the food looked really good. But there was a lot of foil serving platters. There was this really good looking ham in a foil roasting pan. Back then I didn't think anything of it but now it all makes sense. It was all crap about her cooking that Christmas meal. And they had Jon lie to the camera and say Kate always cooks her Christmas ham. Sorry to drone on but that really pisses me off.

If Speidi could make $10 doing reality TV, then I think it is entirely plausible that the Gs made something in that neighborhood, too. So Jon may not be exaggerating when he says TFMJG is sitting on a pile of cash.

Exactly. Sheesh even the original cast was pretty harsh, I think it was Gretel who said she's seen high school productions better than this, and one of them said she wished she had watched Homeland instead, which is funny because that's not even on that night lol. Are they being "bullies"? Or rather are they just offering their opinions and snark? Valuable opinions I might add given who they are. They are quite literally Sound of Music experts. What's wrong with viewing a performance like this and saying you hated it, as long as you explain why? When did that become "haters"? The way we've evolved, criticism of anything that is in the public is rampant. And twitter and the internet make that criticism even more easily accessible. Anyone who chooses a life in the public eye be it playing Maria, going on a reality show or anything else has to understand this is how it works and that you have to deal with it maturely or don't choose a public life. Carrie Underwood appears to know that and has handled this all well. The only thing is this only goes for adults in my opinion. It is not fair to subject a child to the same and shame on any parent who does that to their child.

On another note how nice is it the Sound of Music girls have kept in touch?

I watched a few minutes of the cooking thing and i have similar observations. I noticed the glaring lack of tips. For instance why not talk about cooking the pasta al dente and why that's important, especially to a pasta salad? I also don't see how you can "hide" veggies in a pasta dish like this. You could in a lasagna or casserole but how do you hide it in plain view like this? Please don't patronize kids.

Someone else explained this better this morning but I noticed she is a "side tracked" talker. Now this is fine in real life and I tend to talk like this too, but Lord is this ever bad for T.V. She'll be going along talking about something then all of a sudden what she's saying reminds her of something else and whoosh she's off talking about that thing suddenly. It's like whiplash.

The only thing I can't figure out is she's had six years to sharpen her on camera presence. She should have spent some of that money on coaches and classes and honed her on-camera presence. With a little hard work she could do a lot better. After all this time this is completely unacceptable and she should be embarrassed. She should at the very least be able to demo cook something with heat, at the very LEAST.

French nails are currently done without the talons, with nails filed back to a more functional length and the colors are more subdued and natural.
The French manicure is not as popular now, but still seen.
I won't get a French if it's not a gel, and with how the removal process degrades nails by using acetone soaks, leaving them to a long recovery, I just won't do it anymore.
I can't imagine the state of Kate's nails at this point, after so many years of gels, tips and filing.
No matter what the process is that she uses, it destroys the natural nail.

According to the dictionary, off-ten is an acceptable pronunciation. It gave a whole history of the evolution of the pronunciation which was really interesting. Apparently "educated people" started dropping the "t" somewhere in the 17th century and now :educated people" are again using the "t" (not that I think TFMJG is an educated person). I hear it both ways here in Ohio and I suspect that I use it both ways, although I've never really considered it.

I tried to watch the cooking demo tape but I just can't stomach her voice. She really needs to take a few classes on public speaking. My speech prof in college would have given her an "F". She fidgets constantly, which is distracting. Her voice placement, word choices, and expressions are all off-putting, and she can't string 3 words together into an intelligent, comprehendible sentence. Major fails for someone still dreaming of a career in the media.

The way TFW chopped the broccoli for the salad seems to be indicative of the way she does everything in her life -- overkill. Her excessive list making, masterminding, chore chart lists and duties, even down to the order in which the kids were to eat their lunch is overkill. I think she believes that she's a better mom because she controls what they do and how they do it - and the more control, the better she becomes (the smaller the pieces, the better her tip). It's never occurred to her that that's not what makes a good cook or a good wife or friend or mom and it never will.

Question for those who were able to stomach the video of TFW cooking: Did she look like she had a broken foot? I don't recall there being any sign that she was in pain or had any trouble moving, and according to her, she had just broken it. I have broken toes before and it's painful, especially for the first few days. I remember hobbling around and being off-balance, but TFW didn't seem to be in pain, no hobbling, never off-balance. And I don't know if they showed it, but as soon as her time was up, she darted off into the signing tent. No sign of a broken foot there, either.

I hope Brian B does not ask her to cook with him! Let's look at the times she had men in her kitchen cooking (from the show). When Jon cooked the Korean dinner, she was just ugly towards him. And then when Emeril--a chef--was there, she smacked him with a spatula. Twice. Now look at her knife skills, and her pointing of the knife...BB doesn't want to go there. Emeril got the spatula because that was what was in her hand. If she had a knife in her hand in his kitchen, then that might end badly. Picture BB with a nasty stab wound while she cackles at how "cute" she thinks it is to hurt a man. And then if he is really hurt her flock of fans will say that BB needs to "man up".

I watched about half of Sound of Music last night. I may finish it up today. I think it's very hard to do a stage-style production and translate it to the small screen. Stage productions are so different than television productions, in particular the overacting that is necessary to project to an audience far away. On the small screen such overacting looks silly and cartoony. The only one I can recall where is was successfully done was Peter Pan. Despite all the low points and bad acting I still was moved by a few scenes. One was when the Captain discovers the kids singing and breaks down. I don't think there is a way to do this scene badly. I also enjoyed the nuns, and I thought the baroness was the best actor they had. She was able to tone down the stage acting and make it work for the small screen.

I heard people liked the Captain but I found him way too harsh. There are ways to deliver those lines without looking like a tyrant with a terrible anger problem. When you're thinking, he wouldn't HURT the kids would he? That's a bad thing! I found myself thinking, after seeing that why does Maria want to be with him, even if he's "changed"? Christopher Plummer's performance was more pained and subtle. You understood his sternness was coming from missing his wife and that he was a very good man underneath that. He kept a sadness in his eyes the whole time that was moving.

I think anyone wanting to take on this role after a PERFECT movie has already been made is nuts. But props for trying. Sometimes I wonder though, if something has already been done perfectly, why mess with it?

OrangeCrusher1 said... 146

We watched the Sound of Music last night. I agree with a lot of what Admin just said. It's very hard to make a stage production look real on the small screen, particularly in HD. Kudos to Carrie Underwood, not an actor, for agreeing to take this one and open herself up to the special hell that is social media commentary. And who dressed her? The costumery was ridiculous, and the wedding dress looked like a high school production piece. Like Admin, I found a few scenes as moving as always, particularly the end as they prepare to sneak away over the mountains. The Baroness was remarkably moving, and perhaps the best I have seen in that role; you can see the difference in acting there between someone who is one, and CW who is not. I also liked Christian Borle as Max. The Captain and Maria, no chemistry, and would have been better with others in their roles. Still, better than I expected and with it recorded, we did not have to watch the commercials.

At the time the video was made, she was saying she had blisters, correct? I recall someone who had interviewed her then tweeted her and mentioned her blisters. That story evolved into a broken foot as time went on. But whatever the injury was, it had already happened, and she didn't seem to have any trouble getting around. I think she exaggerated a minor injury (blisters) to come up with an explanation for why she wouldn't be running in the Vegas marathon this year. It's obvious that R&R Marathons dumped her, and she wasn't about to admit that she lost another job.

We did Sound of Music junior year. I was in the orchestra which was pure fun. Front row seats and helping with the beautiful music. That year there were some particularly talented kids. Our Gretel was adorable and fantastic and the rest of the cast was strong too. Our director at the time had no business being at a little high school, he was great. There were moments in that production that were better than this one.

Seems like Kate is a little touchy today, or she kept responding to make sure that @Ticketmaster and @onedirection saw her tweets, which I highly doubt.

Why did she have to include the twitter ID of One Direction in her tweet? She could have just used 1D instead or just their name. In fact, why did she even take the time to tweet about it all, if she was trying to get tickets? She just had to make sure that the world knew that she was looking for tickets in the hope someone would come through for her.

Then to add insult to injury, one of her fans tweets her this:

♡I am Diana♡ ‏@Drew_styles1 2h
@Kateplusmy8 @Ticketmaster @onedirection me and my friend got backstage passes for 1D :D

Rather than congratulate the fan, Kate responds:

@Drew_styles1 @Ticketmaster @onedirection how in the world did you manage that????

First of all, if tickets to some silly concert makes your teen's dreams come true maybe it's time to talk to them about priorities. Second of all, not every parent believes that spending hours and hundreds of dollars for one night of boy band entertainment is what's best for teens. Plenty of parents don't permit their kids to attend such nonsense expensive events and use that money for other things instead, perhaps saving some in a college fund, and using the rest for fun that lasts more than one night. Third of all, the implication that this sort of thing makes you a good mom is obnoxious. She doesn't even work, so all she's probably doing is spending THEIR money to get these tickets. How is that good parenting?

I think it's awesome though that the tweeter pointed out that by advertising she intends to go to the concert (if she gets tickets) she put a target on her back for paparazzi. Not that they would care.

FYI said... 171

Maybe she's hoping one of the tabs will pick up the story, and feel sorry for and get tickets for her. Hey, why doesn't she call her good pal, James McGibney of BV, to score some tickets? I'm sure he has connections.

Oh how funny. How in the world does anyone besides KG manage to do that. Look, if she wants to make her teen's dream come true, get off the damn twitter, buy the tix like everyone else and then STFU until Xmas. Why does she share so damn much. Oh, I know, she's really out there grifting. Guess it's not working so well this time. Karma.

When I go online to buy tickets, I know if I've bought them or not, yet TFW says her "fingers are crossed"? What's to keep her fingers crossed about? She either bought them or she didn't. I think she's tweeting/grifting again hoping that someone sees it and swoops in and gives her the tickets. Her methods are so transparent and embarrassing.

Okay, I'm from Oklahoma, and I'm a Carrie Underwood fan, BUT she was miscast here. Still, I admire her because she's a NICE human being, UNLIKE Kate Gosselin, so I want to temper my criticism.

First, I applaud Carrie for her chops...she definitely has them...and for the courage and, yes, talent it took to do that theatrical number LIVE.

However, she had the warmth of a winter blizzard, especially in her scenes with the Captain, who is SUPPOSED to come across as stiff. I thought he was magnificent. I've watched the "movie" version of The Sound of Music countless times...I always fall in love with Christopher Plummer. When I graduated from college and took my first job, I was asked by many people if I was Julie Andrews...I heard it constantly...she's more than a decade older than I am and although I was supremely complimented, I couldn't believe they were serious. However, I also heard the comparisons in college. I never thought I looked like her, but I always thought my Mother resembled her.

Aside from that, I did hear the Oklahoma accent in her singing more than once, saw her looking at cue cards twice, and thought her singing paled in comparison to the Broadway professionals, and, except for her scenes with the children which came across as natural, I thought her acting was cold and lifeless.

Still, Carrie has a range that I didn't realize she has, and I thought she did a credible job, and I can't imagine anyone, even tempered professionals, being able to do that LIVE on t.v. for three hours.

Gawd, the woman is pathetic, grifting for tickets! I cannot believe she posted a screenshot of ticketmaster calls. Why didn't she get tickets earlier? NOBODY fell for her grifting this time. Freakin unbelievable!

I was at the supermarket this morning when I saw the latest issue of Star magazine with Kate on its cover under the headline "Kate Gosselin stealing from her kids! Blowing money on plastic surgery and her hunky bodyguard". So I read the article and it states that Kate made $ 10 million over the years but very little is left - she is now raiding her kids' trust accounts for pay for everything, including Steve's salary. I know she's desperate for publicity, but this is not quite what she had in mind.

You can't mean to tell me that with all of her connections in the entertainment business, she doesn't know someone who knows someone who could get her tickets? I guess she's not the celebrity that she thinks she is. Can't her bestie, Taylor, put her in touch with someone? By the way, I know how she could get tickets and passes, and if she weren't such a darn grifter, I'd help her out. But I'm not going to. Bah, Humbug.

FYI said... 180

In her first tweet about the tickets, she included a screenshot that included the phone # for Ticketmaster. Why would she even bother calling? It would be easier to just go online and order them. Maybe she did plan on using her "name" to strike a deal.

She is disgusting and pathetic, not to mention transparent. She put this out on Twitter so the tabs would pick it up, and someone would take notice and get her the dang tickets. I've never seen anything like this in my life. The heck she doesn't play the "do you know who I am routine." She's asked for stores to be closed so she can shop. She's stepped in front of people in grocery store lines. She had Steve block a bathroom so she would be the only one in there. She parks in fire lanes. Don't think for one minute she wouldn't use the "Mom of eight" thing to get tickets. She'd do it in a heartbeat.

Amazing, how Kate has managed to cough up money lately, for things: bird/cage, concert tickets, hair appt, but just over 2 months ago, she was crying poor: piece & patching finances? If you are so poor/piece & patching/struggling with money, one does not buy a new car, expensive bird, or expensive concert tickets. The cheapest one can get is about $50. Front row would be in the hundreds. First floor hundreds. The $50 seats are way in the back. It's nice to get tickets for your kids for a concert, if you can afford them, then do it, but then don't go on national TV or do interviews and cry poor.

The twins are old enough to remember the special seats and backstage passes for Taylor Swift. She's desperate to grift same for 1D, otherwise how can she explain the seats in the nosebleed section with just regular folks. And she herself is hardly interested enough in taking her teens to a concert unless there is special attention for her and about her. Oh wait, I forgot she will also need a ticket for Skeeve.

My friend scored 1D tickets for her daughter and her daughters friends the day they went on sale for here in PA. They aren't coming until the summer. It's not hard when you plan ahead. TFW just doesn't think she needs to stand in line with the masses and can just skirt the whole process. "DON'T THEY KNOW WHO SHE IS! ! ! ! "

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 188

They only went on sale today this morning at 10. Her call logs show calls at 1040 am. She should have called the second they went on sale at 10 am. 1040 is too late. This is what happens when a network takes care of everything for you, you lose touch with how to help yourself.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 189

Yikes it also shows more than 81 calls. That's nuts. No band or anything else is worth 81 phone calls. Forget this.

OrangeCrusher1 said... 190

She never knew how to help herself. From the time she moved her teenage self into her boyfriend's parents' house, she figured it was up to other people to help HER. Trouble was, of course, no one has ever known how to do it right. Poor Kate.

Those people who win lotteries sometime blown through their money, so maybe there's some truth that she's spent the kids' money. And whoever posted that she'd need a ticket for Steve was correct. I don't know where the concert is, but would she need hotel rooms too? Oh, and limo transportation. Gotta go in style that one.

Without seeing her bank accounts who knows what is going on with the finances however I will say that based on the things she says and tweets she is definitely the type to blow through all her money. For one after she failed at getting back on T.V. she still after all this time refuses to get a real job. That is not the behavior of someone who is careful and wise with money. For another the things she does choose to spend her money on usually poor investments, like sports cars and expensive consort tickets. This sort of reckless behavior when one doesn't even have a full time job is exactly the kind of behavior that leads to very wealthy people declaring bankruptcy. The wealthy people I worked for were absolute tightwads with money. Moreso than even someone struggling would be. On the one hand, I think they were cheap sometimes. On the other hand, the way people get rich and then stay rich is to be careful with every penny. It's when you stop worrying over every penny because you're "comfortably rich" that you end up in trouble.

This is classic Kate! She thinks giving ( or grifting) her kids expensive items, iPads, cell phones, Taylor Swift tickets, One Direction tickets makes her a "good Mom". Guess what Kate, it doesn't. This isn't about her kids, it's about making herself look like "cool mom". And it's especially disgusting at this time of year when many families are looking at their bank accounts and trying to figure out to provide a Christmas for their children. She is disgusting.

I counted at least three or four tweets between Kate and her sheeple that implied that this is what "good moms" do and that this is how good moms love their kids. Wtf?

It's so obnoxious. Just because you buy the most expensive lavish present in the room doesn't make you a good mom. If anything I think it makes it look like you're trying too hard, not to mention unoriginal. A truly "good mom" would not need to fork over hundreds of dollars on flavor of the month bands to prove their love for their children. A truly good mom is one who can say no honey, we're not going to spend this kind of money on something like this.

It means she's made a total of 89 calls for these stupid tickets. I don't know why they separated them out into 83 and 6. Could be because she hand dialed some of them. I don't know why iPhone groups calls the way it does but I've seen that on my phone too.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 199

Berks I was going to say the pre-sale thing would be the only way your friend got them early. A concert like this you're going to have to get creative. Sitting there with your phone dialing over and over 40 minutes into the sale ain't gonna cut it.
