What has always interested me about this blog is the various, thought provoking ideas about Kate's behaviour. I tend to agree with Tucker's Mom who wonders if Kate's need to organize is related to anxiety. I would add to that by saying that organizing everything and everyone is also a control issue. I suspect she feels aspects of her life are out of control, and in order to feel in control she must dictate organization to cope. There is no easiness in her demeanour whatsoever, she always seems tense and unable to go off script, case in point, the TODAY show interview.

I was looking last night for a CNA here and she didn't have one, but there was a 69 yr. old lady in the SW part of my state that had 2 or 3 for over 100 dollars each. I easily found her address and phone no. I didn't want to call her because of all the phone money scams. She wouldn't understand. So I sent all the info to the local paper and I asked them to verify the information so they would know it was legitimate. Hopefully, they will and contact her and then it would be more believable to her. I also found a guy in my hometown with the same last name that had a couple and I sent him the info and hopefully he will believe! lol

Shirley Temple Black was a true child star. She went on to be an ambassador for her country. This child/woman did nothing but good with her life...and she barely made a blip on the radar with her passing....So sad.

I've wondered if this may have to do with her politics more than anything. She was a very passionate and dedicated member of the Republican party when most of her peers were Democrats. The industry is Democratic. The news media is Democrat. She did not travel in the kind of circles everyone else was used to in Hollywood. She didn't even live in Hollywood most of her life. I think people liked her movies but I think the fact that she marched to her own drum once she was an adult was something they didn't know how to handle. For as much as Democrats accuse Republicans of shunning them in certain parts of the country, if you're a Republican in this town you are equally shunned. Both parties are guilty of it. Just my two cents.

I think it has more to do with the fact that she has been out of the entertainment industry and limelight for more than 60 years. She lived an awe-inspiring life of service after she left show business, but she was not a current celebrity, like PSH. Also, her death could not be considered a huge shock, given her age. Shocking deaths of relatively young, contemporary celebrities will always get the lion's share of media coverage, not because they are more worthy, but because they are more well known.

The only medical devices they have here are toothbrushes and bed pans. lol No, this place has been visited by state and has been threatened to be shut down several times. I am surprised that it hasn't already. I have insurance to pay for the rides. I have been riding in an ambulance on a gurney now for almost 7 years. I am non-ambulatory.
I am blessed that the co. takes me on the holidays to visit my family and I go and they easily put me in a chair like a lounger. I love the GUYS that load and unload me. They are so nice and gentle! And Compassionate! Teddy Bears! Big Burly guys! One time a male patient was looking and cursing at me and Big J swung around and looked and looked at me and said I got to get out of here, I am about to clock him!
I said, wow, a man taking up for me! The other paramedic said, you and your hubby have a fight? haha I said, jokingly, I wish I had my .32, man! Paramedic thought I was going to use it on him, the paramedic. I said, no, on second thought, I don't need the .32, I need my bro's glock. We were going out the door and he said, No, don't use the .32, Use the Glock. I said, why? He said, I don't want to LINGER! HAHAHA
We roared out the door! I LOVE those guys!
Special note to TCFW: They LOVINGLY carry, tote, all my items including my 30 lb. backpack, blanket and pillows out to the amb. I just wish they got paid like Steve does. They deserve it, because they save lives!

Yes, I think so too. She had a long life, but the peak of her celebrity was many, many years ago, whereas PSH would be considered still in the midst of his acting career and much more so in the public eye.

I think another reason is that the audience for them isn't there like it used to be. Most kids would change the channel rather than watch Shirley Temple sing "On the Good Ship Lollypop." It's too saccharine to today's kids. They would rather watch Sponge Bob Square Pants. Those movies were for a certain time in our culture and those times were racist time, where people of color were treated unfairly and it shows in the movies of that generation.
In fact, I watched about 5 minutes of a Little House on the Prairie episode and had to change the channel before my teeth rotted from the syrupy morality. I watched that show as a kid and the heavy handed overtones completely went over my head. But I can't sit and watch it now - it's just too much!

Please don't worry about me. I have 6 pit bulls in my corner and if I have a problem, all I have to do is call them and they will do what ever it takes to get it solved, the no. 1 attorney in my co. we went to school together and he did my divorce pro bono, I know I could call him if needed, ex left me with just a couple of hundred dollars and an attorney or tax man with expertise in elder care, we are members of the same church. I like to say I have no dog in the Gosselin race, because really, I don't. What actually got me interested in this whole mess was not actually the kids– it was Jon.
I'm probably in a small demographic within this blog's statistics– I'm 20-something, have no children, I'm single, live with a couple of roommates in NYC (suck it, Kate). And, I didn't come into the saga seeing feeling sorry for the kids– I felt sorry for Jon.
Some background: I come from a long line of marching, bra-burning feminists. Which is amazing, don't get me wrong. But there seems to be this strange 'feminist' attitude now where women can do no wrong whatsoever. I'm a lay sociology student and female-on-male domestic violence is something that I've studied for awhile. It's just something that's never mentioned, and is alarmingly prevalent. I got interested into the topic because many of the otherwise wonderful strong women in my family told me that women could never be abusive. Therefore, for much of my life I truly never thought men could be abused by women. Like, I literally never thought that was a thing or could be a thing, like it would be like putting two magnets together the wrong side in.
So when I saw "J&K+8" and saw a woman- bright, bubbly, smiley, happy and with babies! So many babies!- verbally abuse her husband, emasculate him, demean him, fucking hit him...that's when I got interested. Because I was watching something that just does not get talked about, played out in HD cable glory. Can you imagine a show like J&K+8 if it had featured a man doing that to his wife? Glamorizing it? Playing it for laughs? N.O.W. would be marching on every block and they'd be justified in doing so.
I'm glad Jon is speaking out, if only because I'm glad he feels secure enough to do so. It's going to take years of therapy to help dampen those 10 years. It'll never go away, but it can be beaten back a bit.
PrairieMary -- Have you checked with your local library? They might have "Mommie Dearest" on DVD and available to check out. My local library does.
MSNBC had a nice little spot about Shirley Temple Black shortly after her death was announced. I didn't check CNN or Fox. I never cared much for her movies, even as a kid. I thought they were too syrupy. I always preferred Jane Withers, who was Shirley Temple's rival in some of her movies. She was marketed as the "bad kid" but she was really just into mischief in the movies. I could relate to her more ;>) . I admired STB for her adult life, especially being one of the first women to be straightforward about breast cancer and the need for more research and access to testing and treatment.

I'm sorry but drug abuse is a choice...cancer is not (unless you chose to smoke etc. and RISK getting it). It drives me nuts when bad choices are touted as "disease" or "cancer". If Philip Hoffman had chosen NOT to put heroin in his body, he would still be alive. Why does it seem that "personal responsibility" is no longer acceptable but all consequences of personal responsibility are excused. If you choose to drink, you can become an alcoholic or get illnesses from it and die. If you do drugs, you risk dying from an overdose. It's a choice!!!!

Drug abuse is not a choice. Using drugs (for the first time) might be a choice but addiction and drug abuse are not choices. I don't agree with all the press about PSH and I don't think drug abuse should be glorified but unless you've dealt with addiction yourself, you would know it's not a choice.
Someone I'm very close to has lung cancer. He smoked for many years. His addiction to nicotine caused him to get cancer. Do you think that was his choice?

My mother had NON-smoking lung cancer without smoking at all. She did NOT have a choice. My brother could stop smoking and not have smoked at all. His choice.
I remember when her latest blogging job ended at the Stir and she babbled some nonsense about how she would keep posting on her own blog so don't worry. We knew right there she was full of it, that was never gonna happen.
She has a long history of making promises she can't keep. This kind of behavior is not going to win fans either on Twitter or in real life. It may take awhile for it to catch up, but it will catch up.
As I recall too some of her Stir posts were late. A couple really late.
Think that was the Stir falling down on the job or Kate? I'm gonna go with Kate.

I play in a band with a server acholice and he choices not to stop drinking. Even though it's lost us & him tons of jobs in music.

How many food demos did she give over the entire 'book tour'? 2 or 3? It turned into a disaster when she made it all about her personal legal issues rather than the book. It wasn't a real truly a book tour. After all, the questions were always about everything but the book. When it is finally mentioned, it seemed like 'umm this book umm I wrote it for my kids umm umm they begged me umm'. Not much discussion about healthy eating for kids, what foods are good, etc.
Anyone see the interview she did with the Home show? The one where she was wearing the orange/red shirt? Almost immediately in the beginning after the guy asks her something. She had this sicken look in her face then started to struggle her shoulders & signed. WTH? What kind of interview is that for a book tour?

You can get a lot of diseases by taking a risk, like sex, travel to 3rd world, sedentary lifestyle, eating certain foods (sushi, too much fat, steak tartar), being a health care worker, neglecting health, many things.You aren't' choosing to, but you might get them. Addiction is a sneaky one- if only kids could not take that first sip or puff etc...

You have a very simplistic view of a complex issue. Many addicts seek help but the treatments do not work. I watched my mother die a slow, unpleasant death from emphysema and lung cancer. She began smoking long before the first Surgeon General's warning about the dangers of smoking, by which time she was a nicotine addict. She tried various treatments over the years that weren't successful and finally was able to quit, but ended up with a terminal illness anyway. I can only assume you haven't had a close experience with addiction or you wouldn't be so judgmental.

I can't recall but I think one was the meatloaf redux that fell apart and another was a salad. Neither were earth shaking new cuisines or even minor improvements on the same stuff we've all been eating since we were tots. Really I've gotten those recipes off the box of pasta and oatmeal when I had to be the one making dinner for the family while mom was at the hospital with my brother. I don't recall having any boxed mac and cheese. Not sure if they didn't sell it on base of if it was cheaper to make it from scratch. And I could even do that at 14. I don't recall putting tuna in it but I recall having some sort of casserole with it and pasta with some sort of bread crumb topping.
I think that the big public deal about Hoffman's heroin overdose is that heroin has re-emerged as a public health issue. Now that pain clinics are being more stringent on giving prescriptions for opiates more people are getting back into heroin which no one regulates for impurities or strength. I don't see any articles that make it sound glamorous but addressing the danger of accidental overdosing. Just like people that drink to relax or self medicate their depression and become alcoholics, it's pretty much the reason people self medicate with drugs and then are addicted and cannot seem to stay on the wagon. Lots of issues underlie why people get into the fixes they do. Just like TFW mental health issues, leave them untreated and the person's issues eventually catch up with them either by being forced into treatment, living under a bridge or dead. Sad but reality. Wasn't there a reality show about addicts?

Speaking as one who HAS had a close experience w/addiction, I'm VERY judgmental. The chaos, heartache, jail, attorney's fees, abandoned wives and children, and on and on and on will probably last as long as he lives...especially since repeated ''rehab'' only lasts till the day after he gets out. I'm not only judgmental, but bitter, and I speak from ''experience''.

But especially with certain types of drugs (like heroin), once you starting using that drug, it can alter your brain chemistry, making it an extremely difficult thing to kick. I have read that meth is similar, which certainly explains why some people will do all sorts of degrading things just to get another hit.
Even if an addict wants to get into rehab, private rehab is very expensive. I just tried to Google low cost rehab clinics in my own area and came up with nothing. I did find about 5 listings for rehab clinics that had very nice web pages but not a single one had any links to give me an idea of their cost (which makes me think they are probably quite pricey). For someone dealing with addiction, that person is often not in a financial position to be able to pay for treatment (because all their money has already gone toward whatever their addiction is: gambling, drugs, booze).
There are no easy answers and I'm not comfortable with putting 100% of the blame on addicts for not getting clean and sober. I think we need to look deeper at the reasons so many choose to turn to drugs or alcohol to begin with.

I believe Kate's "cooking demos" included frosting a cake on the Steven and Chris show (remember the candy false teeth?). Also, I seem to recall her making some kind of muffins where she over-beat the batter and slopped batter all over because she poured the batter from a huge mixing bowl into/onto the pan. Don't remember what show that was on.
Maybe she did more cookbook promotion (as opposed to Kate promotion) on the Canadian shows.
I have my uncle used to drink he was diagnose with throat cancer he recieved treatments and was in-remission the doctors told him to stop drinking.
He didn't three years later he cancer came back and killed him. I took care of him I saw him in his last days.
My bandmate who I've know for years is an Alcoholic who's been in the hospital serveral times and her won't quit or get help.

Hey, I hear you. I am so fortunate that I have only had minor skirmishes with addictive behaviors. At one point before I became a parent, I had a gambling problem. It could have turned really ugly, but then I became pregnant and having this little life dependent on me and my choices made my choices crystal clear from that point on. Quit smoking cold turkey, quit gambling cold turkey, began eating right, exercising every day - you name it, I did what I was supposed to do. And I'm grateful for that intervention.
But I cannot judge those who are in the throes of addiction with the simple, "they choose to remain addicted." I've known several addicts in my lifetime and know it's not simply a choice they are making. Once addiction gets you around the throat, it's fierce.
I'd rather her stay in the house and tweet with strangers than being outside with the kids..

I am with you on this Remona. Our OWN experiences dictate our opinions and judgements. I personally know of people who grew up with addicts as parents and have become addicts themselves, and there are those who CONCIOUSLY decide to NOT drink/take drugs because they know they could, themselves become addicts. Too much hand holding and tsk tsking in this world. They need tough love or cut them out of your life. There should be support WITHOUT enabling.

I think it has more to do with the fact that she has been out of the entertainment industry and limelight for more than 60 years. She lived an awe-inspiring life of service after she left show business, but she was not a current celebrity, like PSH. Also, her death could not be considered a huge shock, given her age. Shocking deaths of relatively young, contemporary celebrities will always get the lion's share of media coverage, not because they are more worthy, but because they are more well known.

Interesting discussion about addiction. I agree with you both.
FD, sneaky is such a good word to describe addiction. I'm pretty sure no one starts out wishing and hoping to become addicted (to drugs - prescription and otherwise; to cigarettes; to alcohol; to gambling, etc.). But dangerous behaviors often start at very young ages, when kids feel like they are indestructible, and things can spiral out of control very quickly.
Science has shown that brain chemistry makes certain people particularly susceptible to addiction. Some are genetically predisposed to it. So while I believe that people need to take personal responsibility for their choices, and be held accountable for their actions, I also understand that addiction is insidious and complex.
I know that addictions cause immeasurable suffering and heartache and financial burden to the addict and his/her family, but I don't feel it is my place to sit in judgment of others regarding such a complex issue. It is too easy to judge someone from the outside looking in.
I hope there is some good that will result from any death caused by addiction, from every person, high-profile or otherwise, who has not been able to quiet their demons within. And I hope scientific study can lead to better, more successful treatment methods. I think we can probably all agree that addictions are tragic for all involved.

Well, she's iconic to you and to many people, but I'm afraid that anyone born past 1970 or so have a lesser chance of knowing much about Shirley Temple except that she was in a bunch of movies when she was a little girl. I'm in my early 50's; Shirley Temple was born the same year as my father. Her movies were re-run on Sunday mornings when I was a kid. But at some point, they stopped being on regular rotation on TV.
Philip Seymour Hoffman may have been unknown to you, but I vividly recall his performance as Truman Capote in the film, "In Cold Blood." I had read the book first and then saw the movie and was very impressed with PSH's portrayal. I remember him from The Big Lebowski (a small but funny part), and The Talented Mr. Ripley. I also recall him from various interviews he gave and thought he was a quirky unique individual. In his own way, he was iconic as well.
News channels and online news providers will give the most play to stories they think will generate the most viewers. I think the passing of both these individuals received attention.

Very understandable. I'm sorry for what you've had to personally deal with.
I lost one of my dearest friends to alcohol addiction. I say 'lost," not because she died, but because she became someone else when she drank. We first met when we were working at the same company. We became friends almost instantly and formed a really strong bond. I helped plan her wedding; she and her husband helped me move from one apartment to another. She was there during my pregnancy and threw a baby shower for me. We shared so much and would talk nearly every day by phone.
I was clueless as to her problem with alcohol for years. She managed to keep it under wraps from everyone. When employees would go out after work for a drink, she usually declined, saying she needed to get home to her husband. The few times she joined us, she would order a diet Coke. But as her addiction grew worse, it became harder to hide. Long story short, she underwent several attempts at rehab before I cut off contact with her. She went through a divorce; really went off the deep end when her brother died; and ended up stealing money from me when I let her stay at my house after she left one of her rehabs.
I mourn the loss of this friend. But the person that took over when her addiction got so strong was not my friend. My heart aches for her and I wish I could help her. I don't know her demons nor what drove her to drink. So I just keep offering up prayers that she'll be able to step back from the abyss one day soon.
Again, I'm sorry for your own troubles Remona in dealing with the painful reality of having a loved one who is an addict. It's really awful.

Yeah, I figured she meant back when the kids were younger, but if she'd get her lazy butt out of bed when John did she could have taken a daily shower while he was brewing the coffee. And since they put the children to bed so early she also had time after they were put down and Jon was there to listen for them. Is she going to rewrite history that she was a single mom then too?
So she can't afford to fix those roots or even get that mess trimmed up to a half way decent length? She has got to have some funky mirror in her house if she can't see how horsed faced that long stringy mess makes her look. Can't even imagine how bad those roots must look seeing how she went on National TV with such obviously neglected upkeep. Was she thinking one of the make up people would give her a root touch up?
She can answer questions calling the man she choose to marry and have children with vile names but not the people she duped into the contest not a contest, bully autograph gig or sure I'll read your book. When will these people realize what a fraud she is? Didn't even one twitter person ask if the prizes had gone out for the winners of do a good deed and get a signed copy of a book I can't give away. (I do wonder if all those poor souls that got free copies at those shows left them there or tossed them in the trash asap.

Yep, that's why the kids brush their teeth in the kitchen. 5 1/2 baths and they brush in the kitchen, at 9 & 13. I was always told that the bathroom was for washing , bathing and doing one business in and brushing one teeth. Kate does have trust issues, can't trust the kids to brush their own teeth.
It will be interesting to see what she does with her hair, now that most of Hollywood who's-who has gone short. She always was a day late and a dollar short.

I figured out how to find old tweets that may not show up on her regular twitter feed or tweettunnel because they go too far back.
Here's how:
In the twitter search box, type in @Kateplusmy8 followed by a + sign, then followed by a keyword about what your searching for. For instance, to find the treadmill tweet, I typed the following in the twitter search box:
@Kateplusmy8+treadmill
For the tweet about make up days, I typed:
@Kateplusmy8+make up
It will show you all tweets that include the word or words after the + sign. Sometimes you have to try different words in order to find the right tweet, but you can find tweets as far back as when Kate joined twitter.
It is a very helpful tool, especially when looking for tweets where Kate totally contradicts herself.

I am grateful for people like you and Remona, and so many others on this blog, who are willing to share your experiences, even though they are incredibly painful. Jon used to be in charge of brushing the kids' teeth and TFW blamed him for Mady's cavities and the tups' issues too. So now they use the kitchen sink, disgusting.When Kate helped you would think all the enamel would be scrubbed off their teeth.

Millicent - PSH was in the movie Capote where he played TC (and was wonderful). The original movie In Cold Blood was made in 1967 and that's the year PSH was born. There was a remake of it and I don't believe that he was in that either. I could be wrong, but I think you're thinking of Capote.

Thank you all for your kind wishes. The last time I had to go to pawn shops to search for things he stole from me and was unable to locate things stolen from the neighbors, I was DONE.
However, he still is in the lives and tormenting those I love, and breaking the hearts of abandoned children. I'm way more upset for his children than I am for me. I simply can't get past that, so I remain judgmental and bitter about him and try to fill the hearts of the children with all the love and caring I can. They are worth it, and I'd rather be filled w/love for them than think about him.

These apply to private schools as well as public. Most schools build 3 or 4 days into the calendar but we're way past those. All schools around me are taking away Easter break and adding days to the end of the year. There's a big uproar over a changed graduation date. If the requirements are not met, the districts lose money.

Zillow could be off. Other property engines may have something completely different listed. I recently pulled up a listing on Zillow that gave square footage as 4,500 feet with four bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths; Trulia showed the same property as having it as 6,000 square feet with six bedrooms and 5 full baths.

Regarding Kate and Jon and why she hates him so much, I think her M.O., the way she's dealt with anything in her life difficult or painful, is that she just cuts it off. This is an extremely unhealthy and non-confrontational way to deal with your problems. This is how five year olds deal with their problems, not grown women. For whatever reason, be it mental illness or upbringing or abuse of her own or what, she has never dealt with her problems in a healthy manner. Jon is truly the first person in her life she has not been able to simply "cut off" the second he upset her. The court of law says he is the children's father, and may see them frequently and abundantly. He can even take her back to court at any time to expand upon that. This does not fit with how she prefers to handle her problems, and it has forever made her absolutely furious. She doesn't want to face difficult things or work with people she doesn't like or collaborate on anything she doesn't want to. She is like a child being forced to do something they don't want to do who spends more time and effort whining about it than simply just going along with it and getting on with life.
All she wants to do is talk about herself.

Bingo. It's so obvious it's embarrassing. The kids probably want to play outside or watch T.V. or maybe catch up on some school reading. She probably wants them to gather around her and tell her how great she is. The kids were tired of that and abandoned her today. Maybe Steve and her NYC friends were busy working and didn't return her calls. She has no job, she has no hobbies, she has no local friends, she has no family to occupy herself. What keeps her occupied is a stroked ego. So she goes to her go-to ego stroker, the Q and A. This woman has had half a dozen A and As and like we said nothing is ever offered new or different or interesting.
Except this London trip, what was that about? Yeah right someone wanted to send her to London and yea right she would pass on that! Hey Kate, if you want to go to London just go. Prices are fairly decent if you book nine months in advance and clearly you have the money.
Also it continues to amaze me a sheeple would think Kate has anything at all to do with the decision to either cancel her show or start a new one. Lol. Rather, sometimes the talent, and I use that word loosely, are some of the very last people to know. It is not unusual for the talent to find out their show was cancelled after eharing it on the news. It is also not unusual for the talent to find out about a show, sign a contract, and be filming the pilot the very next morning not 18 hours later. She has no pull and neither does anyone else but the very biggest of celebs.

Regarding the snow days, private schools in PA do not have to follow the state mandated 180 days of school. The mandate is only for public schools which are funded by tax dollars.
