Betty Broderick and the divorce from hell

"I realize now that he was right when he said our battles would continue until one of us was dead." -Betty Broderick

Jon's recent stint on Couples Therapy has reminded us just how contentious Jon and Kate's divorce was and still is. Jon says that, four years later, he and Kate are not even civil to each other, Kate emasculates him and judges him, and Kate would not allow him to speak to his children when he was on the show.

But their troubles can't even begin to compare to those of Betty Broderick, a California ex-wife and mother who went through such a contentious break-up she felt compelled to murder her ex-husband and his new wife in 1989. Broderick is currently serving a 32 to life sentence in prison.

Betty's complaints about Dan Broderick included:
  • Dan's affair with his assistant.
  • All the years Betty worked to put Dan through medical school and law school, including going door-to-door selling Tupperware.
  • Dan's obsession with money, working and drinking.
  • Dan would refuse to take the children on his custodial time or spend time with them. Betty had to physically drop them off on his porch. Later he asked for, and obtained full custody.
  • Dan getting the house and most of the money in the divorce; Dan's lying and manipulation of the court system in order to obtain a grossly one-sided settlement.
  • Betty was turned down by the best divorce attorneys in San Diego because they were friends with Dan or felt loyal to Dan, a prominent local attorney.
Dan's camp in turn said that Betty:
  • Was in contempt of court orders including various restraining orders.
  • Called his answering machine hundreds of times leaving nasty messages; destroyed his personal property.
  • Was obsessed with him and could not move on.
  • Was consumed by her anger and hate.
  • Believed herself to be the best mother in the world when in reality she was causing severe psychological damage to her children with her hate and alienation.
  • Was irresponsible, incapable, and untrustworthy.
A psychologist for the prosecution diagnosed Betty with narcissism. At a parol hearing, two of Betty's four children argued for her release. The other two asked that she remain incarcerated.

While no divorce experts justified the murder, it did cause many in the divorce community to question California's "Epstein credits," a complicated doctrine which allowed for Dan, a multimillionaire, to be reimbursed so much money from Betty in the divorce he owed her next to nothing in the settlement.

Meredith Baxtor's critically acclaimed, Emmy-nominated portrayal of the scorned ex-wife airs Tuesday, March 11 on Lifetime Movie Network (A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story, and Her Final Fury: Betty Broderick, The Last Chapter). The two part movie, which has achieved somewhat of a cult following a la Mommie Dearest, meticulously chronicles the marriage, divorce and murder. We'll be watching.

There was a time of my life when I did extensive research on BB. (Job related.) I have seen the movie several times.

I have read all the books that covered the story. There are 3-4. They are packed in a box that is still in Illinois, so I can't access them at the moment. One book, "Until the Twelfth of Never" has several letters tucked inside. They are letters to Betty from me and her responses to me. The last letter I received from her was after her 2011 parole hearing when she was denied parole.

I will probably bore all of you to death with my comments as this discussion unfolds!

Reality Tea is claiming that Kate is a confirmed contestant.

New Celebrity Apprentice Cast Includes Kate Gosselin, Johnny Weir, And More! by Melissa on March 10th, 2014

Season 7 of Celebrity Apprentice is a go – and the cast list is slowly being revealed to us. On the list? None other than the Wicked Witch of Eastern PA, Kate Gosselin! Awww – dreams really do come true. Her dreams. Not mine. In case that wasn't clear.

According to Gossip Cop, the confirmed cast also includes Sharknado star Ian Ziering, tennis player Martina Navratilova, and figure skater Johnny Weir.

David Hasselhoff reportedly has the contract in his possession, but he hasn't put down his cheeseburger long enough to sign it. Rumor has it that NBC really wants The Hoff because he's so unpredictable.

CLICK CONTINUE READING FOR MORE!

None of these "celebrities" are strangers to reality TV.

Kate appeared on Dancing with the Stars and Celebrity Wife Swap since Jon & Kate Plus 8 - but the majority of her attempts to stay in the spotlight have fallen flat. I can't imagine why. #Sarcasm #CoughInsufferableCough

Ian competed on Dancing with the Stars. Martina appeared on I'm a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! and Dancing with the Stars. Johnny served as a judge on Skating with the Stars and RuPaul's Drag Race. Johnny also appeared on the Rachel Zoe Project. David competed on Dancing with the Stars and judged America's Got Talent.

That's it for confirmed participants so far.

That's awesome! I love true crime books, which was the best? I have read about Ted Bundy, Karla Homolka, Casey Anthony, Andrea Yates, and others. Sounds morbid but it fascinates me that anyone can be so depraved, especially mothers who kill their children.

Too bad Betty Broderick is on in the middle of the day tomorrow. :(

Kate's desperate, she'll take it! And Jon can get custody, or first right of refusal and get those kids to his home and hopefully do some de-brainwashing...

Today is tuesday, so if the locals saw the kids sliding, you can bet it was with Jon and not Kate. She had to post the pic of one of the girls with the bird, to make people think she had them all day.

Everything she does has a calculated reason behind it.

&&&&&&&&

Bringing this over from the last post, because I really want Meagler to be on the same day as the rest of us. Today is Monday, Meagler!! lol

Riiiight Betty. Nobody understands you. It was all Daniel's fault wasn't it?

I remember watching this movie when it originally aired. It was chilling.

So Kate and Johnny Weir are both (allegedly) going to be on Celebrity Apprentice? Johnny met Kate at an ice skating event some years ago and he had nothing good to say about her - in fact, he was quite vocal in telling everyone how rude and mean she was. So the two of them together on CA should be ... interesting.

Flimsy, I know, I know. I should have turned to twitter for tea and sympathy.

You know what's funny? All the while I'm working on it and believe me I was in a panic not really knowing what I was doing, I thought of taking a selfie lying on the basement floor in front of the furnace like Kate did in front of one of her two dishwashers. lol! But alas, no time for it and not only that but you would have seen the litter box, that we only have one furnace, that I didn't have makeup on and I wasn't in the most graceful pose. That was the realist of reality. haha.

I did think of you guys though.

That reminds me isn't what's her name's true crime book on this considered one of the very best true crime books, next to In Cold Blood?

Incidentally, Philip Seymour Hoffman's death inspired me to read, or possibly reread In Cold Blood. I think I may have read it in high school but I don't remember much. I'm 2/3rds through and I've been amazed how gripping the writing is. I am the type that loves lots of details and this book gives it, right down to every single thing the family did before their deaths. It is an older book but you couldn't tell, it could have been written yesterday. I highly recommend it. When I'm finished, I plan to watch Capote. I also am almost finished with Gone Girl, which I believe was recommended here, which is also a crime type book and without giving it away, I really think most 15 Minutemen would like it.

My guess is that what has been leaked was a preliminary list of people they are actively negotiating with. I'll believe it when I see it, but I do believe there's enough to this to at least reasonably conclude she's on their short list. We'll just have to see what happens.

I do think her hate for Jon and desire to one up him would color her judgment when signing on to something that no sane Kate Gosselin would touch. She should know better, she should know there is no way in hell she is cut out for such a thing, but she's too focused on one upping Jon to be rational.

Admin, I agree with you that TCFW is too focused on one upping Jon to really think things through before signing up for the show.

However, I really don't believe that she has enough self-awareness to overcome her narcissistic belief that she can do anything/everything. She sees herself as the perfect mother, the queen of organization, the really good cook, totally unaware that her actions prove over and over and over that she is none of those things.

Maybe the key is your comment that ''no sane KG would touch'' CA. The key word being ''sane''.

Kate won't survive very long on Celebrity Apprentice unless she flies true crazy colors and is so nasty and manipulative that it makes for good television. I gave up on that show a couple seasons ago. Trump goes on and on ad nauseum about how he 'makes' people's careers by being on the show, but its really just a giant D lister parade... I really think its a bad bad idea for Kate though because if she says, does, or acts horrifically bad, NBC will most likely be able to trot out the clips on any show they have a share in for the future.

I read up on Betty Broderick the last time these were on television a few months ago. I think the movies are way too sympathetic towards the husband. I came away from the movies thinking she was a total mess and then I read more on the case and saw how her husband was a real piece of work as well. He really screwed her over in the divorce, and she had a real justification to be angry. However, she had plenty of opportunities to walk away and make better choices and decided to act out.

In terms of narcissistic mothers, Marybeth Tinning in the one that chills me to the bone. Her story is recounted in From Cradle to Grave. Given a few emotional pushes here or there, I could see TFW turning into a person like her but fortunately did not.

Watched the movie, trial and read the book. Fascinating. If Kate and Jon were not in the public eye, I would hate to think how much nastier it could get.

Kate is on the short list for CA, but has been before. I would bet it is not settled yet as she has to contend with Jon itching to go after her for custody. These rumors always fly before the announcement. It is typical of Kate to be silent (apparently her rep will not confirm anything) just to keep her name in the tabloids. If she's not on, wanna bet she'll blame Jon? (Actually her minions will blame him). They will say Jon threatened to take the kids away or demanded custody while filming. Regardless, Kate wants it both ways. As far as I am concerned, it's a lose/lose for Kate: makes an ass of herself on TV and gives Jon grounds for full custody. The alternative is that her hate for Jon outweighs her narcissism and she will decline Trump's offer so she can blame him and wait for a show similar to the old TLC show. There was also a rumor years ago that she was desparate to get on Dance Moms (kind of explains those dance lessons for Mady).

Vanessa said... 28

So she did "ok" on CWS because she was more or less "in charge", was encouraged and expected to rule the roost and have her be "obeyed", what a dream job for her! Plus she was "against" a 3 year old kid and a gentleman. On CA, she'll be truly competing with people with brains, hearts, souls, work ethic, ETHICS, drive, stamina, friends, pull etc. etc...it will be my pleasure to see her squirm and be put in her place.

Now off to get my hands on some of the recommended books:)

Here's my prediction. If Kate does end up on the show, it will never be intended for the long haul and I think that will be pre-arranged. She wants to get her stretched, injected mug on tv and she wants some star treatment in NYC. She'll be on maybe two or three weeks, then she'll make a huge ordeal about how she has to leave because her kids need her. She'll channel Scarlett O'Hara and proclaim "I'm a mother and that comes first!!" She will make sure that America knows the kids are in Jon's care and that they are miserable, calling her everyday and begging her to come home. And with that she'll be done. All IMO.

Tucker's Mom said... 32

Gruesome confession- I'm also intrigued by these women- Lifetime ( the estrogen/insane women channel) is a treasure trove for these movies!
Last year or so, I was riveted by the horrific case involving Diane Schuler, better known as Aunt Diane, as in "There's Something Wrong With Aunt Diane".
This woman killed 7 people in a violent and virtually inevitable car crash, when she was stoned and drunk, driving a mini van the wrong way on a highway for almost 2 miles.
She killed herself, 4 children (her daughter and 3 niece/nephews) and 3 people in the SUV that she collided head on with.
It's fascinating from a forensic standpoint, that this 36-year old would smoke pot and throw back 11 shots of vodka, in the MORNING, and drive with precious children in the van.
I think she was on a suicide mission.
Anyway, it's a terrifying documentary to see, and know that they do show her corpse at the scene, but no other innocents.
I don't know if her husband is still trying to sue his BIL for use of his van (can you believe?!), and Diane's SIL, Jackie Hance, went on to have more children and wrote a book.

So, don't feel upset!
If it's a done deal, it's a done deal. Kate either will be on, or she won't. Any of us tuning in when the show airs isn't going to make a lick of difference.
To wit- check out any article on Kate, like ROL. The comments section is always teaming with vitriol towards this woman, and she'll keep it coming, with antics like suing the father of her children and continuing to cavort with a married man.

Um, no. This is a show that I watch on a regular basis and I'm not going to stop just because TFW is on it. I think that everyone is giving her far too much credit. She may bring in some viewers that normally don't watch but it's not going to be in the millions. Let's get real here, she's an also ran. If the networks thought she'd bring in the viewers she'd have her own show by now. She buys followers on twitter and twitterbots to retweet and make it seem like there's interest in what she says and does. She can't do that with TV.

That is exactly the way I feel about BB. Personally, I think both she and Dan were complete jerks. You are right, she could have made much better choices, but so could Dan. He must have known how much it enraged her when he pulled all of his legal tricks on her (legal tricks he was able to pull because she paid for his schooling). But he kept pushing her buttons. Maybe if he had just settled with her, given her a pile of money, she would have eventually moved on (then again, maybe not).

And BB certainly acted up herself with her crazy antics, the phone calls ect... but to kill 2 people is complete insanity. Again, she could have just kept her mouth shut, taken what she could and moved on and away. But instead she acted irrationally and now she sits in a jail cell. Was it worth it, Betty? Was it worth taking two lives, one of which was your childrens' father?

To say that both Betty and Dan behaved badly is putting it mildly but as I said before, they are and were both pinheads in the divorce.

CA ratings have been trending down and NBC almost did not renew it. I have not watched it and don't intend to change my viewing habits. I agree with the above comments that Donald would need a hefty, like in the millions, of additional viewers to keep the show on the air. Kate will not bring in those numbers although I am sure any uptick would be claimed by the sheeple that Kate was the draw. I agree she won't last and probably it's in the contract that she can bail out after a certain number of episodes. All she wants is to get her mug in national TV. I will never understand why she keeps getting these breaks, but never will she ever draw the 10 million viewers like the divorce announcement episode. Never. That was a unique event on TV. It is abundantly clear she has no talent and has a very narrow appeal.

I will anxiously await recaps if she appears or catch clips just like I did with Dancing With The Stars. These shows have a shelf life and reality TV appears to be on the decline anyway. She is an aging, shrill, whiney reality show personality who needs to move on but won't. She can't stop time no matter how much she tries.

As far as I am concerned, I wish she was offered nothing in TV, but if she is, she just makes a fool of herself and that may be exactly why she does get invites.

That one interested me too. I was especially fascinated with her husband, who stood by her and as far as I know still stands by her even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. It was an interesting study of people who stand by and support very bad people. This kind of thing does happen quite often.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 42

I agree that Dan was a real nightmare and that he really pushed her buttons. He really manipulated the legal results so she got royally screwed. It was a fine thank you for the decades she invested in his career and children so he could flutter off and be the toast of the town in San Diego. From the beginning he should have given her a FAIR sum for all that and joint custody.

Betty was psychotic and murder is never justified. However, I am of the belief that had he handled this differently this need would have happened.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 43

Starzz, I really don't think we should worry about that. I watch what I want to watch, and CA is on my must see list regardless of TFW being on or not. TFW does not get to dictate my viewing habits. Someone else explained it better, and I agree. It's become pretty clear to me Kate has established a certain sense of notoriety. That ship has sailed, it is too late to change that with boycotts or calling sponsors. It is also clear to me that Kate self destructs all on her own. No one needs to call/email the Today show, she went on the Today show and imploded all by herself, without our help. The same will be true of CA IF she goes on. I tune in now and again to watch her downward spiral guilt free, it's not my responsibility to get her off T.V. nor do I have that power.

Marie said... 44

For those of you who have not watched CA before, they usually try to keep the train wrecks on as long as possible to get the ratings. Even if they do terrible in the tasks, they manage to stay on because Trump wants the ratings. So TFW could be on for a while. Unless she's just absolutely boring, then she will be gone. Layla said... 48

So, will TFW do CA or not? If she does, it won't be for the money. $16,000 is not a lot, especially when her agent gets 15% (I think that was the amount on the scontract on RH's book), and then taxes are taken out. All for a month of 16-hour days, hard work, and not enough sleep. Plus the kids will be outside of her sphere of influence, and she can't censor what they say to Jon, or interfere with their time with him.Somehow I just can't see her giving up that much control, since the kids are the only people left for her to control.

But, of course, this is TFW. She wanted another chance at TV to "hit it out of the ballpark". She'll see this as her chance. It will be just like DWTS, where she went into it thinking she was "In it to win it". And failed miserably once she realized she had to actually work. She thinks she can still coast along on her star power, but that ended a long time ago. She'll melt down when she's actually expected to work, and the other contestants will hate her (some already do). What will she do when she can't tell the camera crew to stop playing "we're filming a TV show" and get some work done, because she's really done? The raging beast within her will come out, people will be reminded once again why they can't stand her, and then she'll go back to PA to find that her kids have bonded with Jon and Liz and at least some of them don't want to come home. And, of course, the stories of how difficult she is to work with will circulate, so that no network will ever want to give her another show.
Go for it, Kate!

Seriously, what charity? That in itself is a joke, and the fact that a woman who claims her identity is "mom of 8" is even considering leaving them for 6 weeks if shooting reality tv is also a joke. So what will the sheeple spin be on that, considering the venom they spewed about Jon taking off for a few weeks to do the therapy show? DWTS built the biotch a practice studio, Donald Trump has different rules.

NJGAL51- I had to laugh when I read your comment because of the phrase also ran. I had never heard that phrase before, then my daughter was In Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat last month and after going to 4 performaces, we've become a little obsessed with the music and I couldn't figure out what one line was so I looked it up and there was that phrase, also ran.
As for TFW on CA, I don't watch that show and am not going to start because she is on there.
Now if she was on Amazing Race, I would have to suffer through it.

Dmasy - I too look forward to your comments on this discussion re the BB story. I wonder if I have time at lunch to run home and record the movie. One of my guilty pleasures is reading true crime stories as well.

I find Ann Rule to be one of the better writers of that type of story. I read Small Sacrifices but I didn't read the one about Ted Bundy.

I also watch the station that plays all those true crime stories. You know, The Homicide Hunter, Unusual Suspects, etc.

Include me with all the true crime fans here. I am a big fan of Ann Rule, and I love some of the shows, too. Interestingly, I went to college with Julie Schenecker, who will soon go on trial in Florida for killing her "mouthy" kids. She was a few years ahead of me, and I only met her during my freshman year, when I had a part-time job refereeing intramural sports at the campus gym (she did, too). I keep trying to think back, wondering if there was anything really strange about her then, but she seemed pretty normal as far as I recall. How does somebody who seemed so normal go so far off the tracks? I just can't fathom.

Interesting bunch I went to college with--Julie Schenecker (Julie Powers then), Mark Steines (he's on that Hallmark channel H&F show TFW appeared on last fall) and former NFL QB Kurt Warner.

I remember watching Betty Broderick's second trial on Court TV. I have also seen the movie with Meredith Baxter. Her portrayal of BB was outstanding.

There was a documentary TV show on A&E years ago called American Justice. They did a show about BB and I actually found the entire show on Youtube. Parts of it include footage BB's testimony during both her trials.

Nobody flew the crazy flag on CA like Gary Busey and Lisa Lampinalli had some major league meltdowns. If TFW is on she'll be the one that the team sends to the prop store becasue she won't be any use to them in the planning and execution of the task.

In the past when the contestants had to draw passers-by to their area you had some singing, some dancing, some (Gary I'm looking at you) acting crazy in general and then your Penn J types who are just good showmen. What's TFW going to do plop a wig on her head and yell "come and get yer popcorn"? I doubt that many will even recognize her without the old hairdo.

Tucker's Mom: I took my daughter to see Ringo a short time ago- it was a great concert (though short and to the point). He did lots of crowd favorites- some were songs more associated with his "All Star Band" members like Todd Rundgren. The upshot is my daughter got to see a "real Beatle" plus a whole lot of other fantastic musicians in a very nice concert setting. Ringo sells his own artwork (besdies the usual t-shirts etc) in the lobby. I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Can't wait for her to be on CA! Remember, they always show contestants comments talking about the other contestants. Can you imagine a close up of Johnny Weir and him talking about her? Maybe even mentioning how she did at the skate charity? Need Nikki Blonsky and the RWO? Jill? there that said she was going to do her in! hahaha

I remember when Omarosa was on, I don't remember if it was her first time on or a special appearance, she was on a team for the last challenge. They were at a golf course and Omarosa caused so much angst and do nothing against the young man there, he was so upset.

In the board room, he told DT about it and said something to the effect of, I wished she haven't even came aboard the team, it was awful. DT said, Why didn't you fire her? He said, Sir, I didn't know I had that option.

I believe he lost, but he would, IMO, of won if he had. That would have been scandalous! lol

Just another Ann Rule fan here. I think the Ted Bundy story was the first one I read. I was fascinated how she worked right beside him. I love true crime! Last Christmas I put a bunch of Ann Rule Books on my family Christmas list. Three different people bought me mutliple books. They have their own section now on my bookcase. I won't let myself start them until I finish up with some half read books. I even got my dad reading Ann Rule now.

I read the Karla Homolka book but skipped a couple of the 'torturous' chapters as this happened very close to home. I remember it just gripping the communites that their victims lived in.

I'm looking forward to Dmasy's remarks about Betty Broderick. There's probably no irony in the fact that so many of us are interested in sociopathic killers and sociopathic kates.

That kind of sh*t has been going on for a long time; wife quits school, goes to work to support them while hubby goes off to school. Later hubby finds cute young girl who's not overworked and tired and goodbye 1st wife.

You know, take them off the shelf, dress them alike, wind them up, or put quarters in them, and have them preform like a circus act, when done put back on shelf. I don't know that a significant percentage of pre med students go on the prowl for a sugar mommy or daddy.
That said, I believe that there is a HUGE incentive to stay married to a spouse that pulls in a decent salary, for two main reasons.
One is that you likely won't be living on Ramen noodles and share a small apartment and one bathroom with 3 other smelly cretans for 8 years. You will also have your incidentals paid for, like a car, insurance, food, maybe rent/mortgage.
The second is that a spouse with a good income WILL help you to qualify for more/better loans, and can help refinance loans.
The bottom line is that on many levels, mainly financial, it will be a much easier ride than going it all alone for THAT long.

Not that I would know anything about of that ;-)

I've know a few who have been both. When they obtain their medical degrees and practice medicine for a few years, often they become involved in medical issues that may also be legal issues as well. In dealing with patients who need assistance and expertise in medical matters, their research often leads them to the legal side of things (malpractice, insurance, personal injuries, dealing with denied medical claims, etc) and since they do have that medical knowledge under their belts, they find that experience very valuable, and therefore they change careers and become attorneys. Many times they still keep their license as a physician while at the same time practice law.

Tend to agree with NJGal - these are people Kate might follow on Twitter, but they are barely acquaintances, and certainly not friends. (Well, except for Milo and Emily, her most devoted two fans.)

A thought did just occur to me though - if WOS is chosen to be a contestant, do you think the producers would provide her with a couple deep pocket "friends," to show up and drop off a big check? I wonder about this as well. I think it may in part be because they always have a big target on themselves right from the start. Other teams know they are good and would like to see them eliminated ASAP. Secondly, they are such a tight team, and they purposely run "their own race" versus trying to form any loose alliances with other teams. This may hurt them sometimes.

There are a few people who work really hard for their charities. Don't think Kate will be one of them. Simply air time for her. Think Red Cross and Kate's desire to work for anyone but herself.

If Kate is indeed filming during the kids' Spring Break, I hope she promised them a really neat trip this summer to make up for it.

------------

I think those kids have traveled enough in their young lives to be able to miss a few spring break trips. They've been to more places than many folks will get to in their lifetimes. That said, if she's at home and is just too cheap to take them anywhere, or they are missing spring break due to her filming, that just isn't right.

OT-in other news, Dotty Sandusky did an interview with Matt Lauer that will be aired on the Today Show tomorrow. Apparently, she's still defending Jerry and has this to say:

""I'm not a weak spouse,'' she replied. "As you know...they call me 'Sarge' because Jerry said I kept everybody in line. If they want to say that, let them say that. I know who I am. And I know who Jerry is. And I know he did not do the horrible crimes that he's convicted of.

"That's one thing I was taught by my parents. And that's something that we've taught our kids, to always be truthful."

Sure the G kids have traveled far and wide, but they were never leisurely vacations, they were working, filming and hitting their marks and locations.
At least for me, I don't consider their experiences the same as mine, and others, when it comes to vacations and travel etc.
There are too many eye witness reports that filming is quick, matter of fact, and done on a tight schedule.
What you see is not what they got.
I don't think those kids need any more luxury travels. I think they need regular kid experiences and for Kate to at least try to honor her promise about traditions.
If they're not filming, they're rarely doing anything off the compound and I do believe they deserve more.

TFW only knows a few ways of grifting, er, I mean fundraising:
1. Selling photos or signed books
2. Asking for "love offerings"
3. Mentioning companies/reviews on twitter or her 'blog' for freebies

None of these "skills" will be useful when trying to raise money for an actual charity, especially given her current state of notoriety. People are on to her love offering scheme, not many will pay $20 for a signed photo anymore, her cookbook is a joke, and look what happened to NoNetz.

I would watch CA just to see her being called out by her fellow cast mates. The epic meltdowns alone would be worth watching.

NJGal51 said... 109

CA has not started to shoot yet. They normally shoot in the April/May/June timeframe. If you watch you'll see that it always seems to be nice weather when they're doing the tasks. for the ride of shame down the elevator and the filming in the limo. You can tell that the scenes are filmed at different times because of they way they're dressed for the tasks and the boardroom firing scenes and the way they're dressed differently when they leave the elevator to get in to the limo.

OT. I am also a fan of TAR and am also rooting for the cowboys. They have a great attitude and just power through the challenges. I was glad to see the first two eliminated, and now I would like to see a certain mother/son duo go next. Sorry to those who like them.

I too was married at 22 and helped put my husband through school. In retrospect those times were difficult financially but we also had some really great times and we learned a lot together. I think we appreciated the small things so much more. We are still together 44 years later and still having new adventures together. So he didn't dump me. LOL

I have not watched CA every year, but I did watch the time that Joan Rivers was on and I felt that Annie Duke was robbed. I dislike Donald Trump so much that I'd rather not watch. DT instigates fights just before the show is about to air and usually with women. A very cynical move to get publicity for the show. I'd like to see him take on a man for a change.

I do not think these children need to travel per se on their school breaks, but it does seem a shame that they also do not seem to do anything fun or different - so much to explore in anyone's part of the world: parks, museums, theme parks, movies. If they had ties with family, could be visiting grandparents or overnights with cousins. She keeps them locked up in a big house, and repeats the same stuff over and over: pizza night, movie night ( and her choice there), the pool, the pool, the pool.
Acknowledging that we were mere mediocre parents, we used spring break as an opportunity to take a car trip in the family minivan - northern CA and Oregon was one adventure, Indian pueblos and Carlsbad Caverns were another. The kids bickered across miles of highways, but today,they really have fond memories of spring break. TFW really does not get it.

I was reading Kate's TL, and the back and forth mud-slinging between the haters and the sheeple is absolutely appalling...so immature, so juvenile. It's hard to believe that these are adults, many of whom are parents. Is this what they teach their kids? Name-calling and degrading bashing back and forth is acceptable? Would they be embarrassed if their children saw the kind of stuff that they spew forth? I'm not pearl-clutching, nor is it a holier-than-thou attitude. I'm just surprised by the behavior (by adults) that goes on there.

My only issue with the trips is that the amount of fun and games and celebrity lifestyle she has partaken in because of her kids has always been grossly out of proportion to the leftovers and cast off the kids get. It's not fair. They gave her this lifestyle at great personal expense and she is benefiting the most. It's messed up, always has been and always will until she stops this.

That's interesting because I was thinking about how Jon is a chameleon. He kind of adheres to the person he is with. With TFW, he was the straight-laced, "Christian" white collar guy. Then with Hailey he moved to NYC and was into Judaism. He was not very public when he was with I-Forget-Her-Name. Now, he is with someone who dresses very casually and smokes like a chimney and swears like a sailor and so does he. It's as if he never developed his true self. And TFW never did either

Sleepless In Seattle said... 123

@Kateplusmy8 That's blatant negligence and child endangerment. Pet birds carry all kinds of disease that can be transmitted to people.

Giving a piece of apple to a bird is not negligence (blatant or otherwise), nor is it child endangerment. Yes, infected birds can transmit diseases to humans through inhaling fecal dust or coming into direct contact with bird droppings and not practicing hygiene, or eating something that contains bird droppings. I doubt if the bird has popped on that apple.

What is negligence is that, despite many warnings, she still allows that bird to perch on her kids' shoulders. She'll learn, eventually, after something frightens it, and it takes a nasty chunk out of the shoulder or face. Tweeters have tried to tell her this, but she just seems to take the "talk to the hand" approach. Kate always knows best.

If I recall I even posted about this a few months ago, wondering who exactly is Kate? I forgot why I posted that, I'm sure it must have been in response to yet another persona she had adopted on twitter for a brief time. I find her representations of both herself and the kids on twitter to be without any depth or meaning. Very flat and meaningless.

It was like she was sabotaging everything. He would of loved to had fire her, but he thought that he didn't have that option. DT would of loved it if he would of fired her, because it would of been on every tabloid and talk of the town.

DT would of Hired Him.

If kate takes the kids to NYC to People, Jon has to give her permission. I hope he refuses. She may have or will do it this week because of spring break.

The way I took that he was basically saying your people, Putin, don't have a problem with me. It's only YOU that has a problem with me, and you are not doing what your people want. YOU are not IN TOUCH with the wishes of the masses. He made him look like a fool. I thought that was truly brilliant.

Huh? Can you explain this please. Thanks

I predict if Kate is on CA, she will take the road of redemption. She will try her best to be everything she isn't. Very nice, very helpful, no breakdowns, etc. She knows her horrible repuation has caused her great angst and therefore she will try her best to be different than what people have come to expect from her. Whether she can accomplish this will be another thing. NeNe from the Real Housewives received a check for $25,000. She said so on tv. But she is also the highest paid reality star in all of the Real Housewives series and was on Glee.

The interesting thing is Kate will not have Steve to rely on. At least not during the filming. That will really cripple her emotionally. And Kate will have to be creative and pull very long hours. I think it will be interesting to see her in another entire envirnoment.

If she is boring and doesn't bring drama then I think they will make her time there short. I predict she will be so scared and incompetent that she will be very quiet on the show.

I think she is so desperate that she will sign up for this. It will be a lot of camera time and interviews for her. She knows she is fading in the public eye. Remember she said a few months ago that there was huge interest/opportunites in her. I wish someone would question her about this lie.

Hulu on the internet may show the entire episodes of CA the day after. And it was the last few years too.

Agree. Jon does seem to be a chameleon as far as adopting the characteristics of whoever is the current girlfriend, but he appears to be very steady in how he is as a dad. That doesn't seem to ever change.

Whereas the kids must be so confused about their mother. They never know which mom is going to show up. Thus their hesitancy in interacting with her...the way they seem to be walking on eggshells around her.

Both Jon and TFW have a lot of growing up left to do, but TFW far more than Jon, IMO. He has a core of a real self in there someplace; TFW will just be whoever she has to be to get herself on teevee.

I think so, too. Remember how quiet she was on the The View when she guest hosted? Didn't establish a presence in the least. She was just a scared, silent little mouse in the corner.
And she thinks she owns that mic. Not.

Her own show was different because she it's easy to intimidate and bully a bunch of little kids. Can't do that so much to adults.

Notice how she didn't try to bully Hank on CWS, although she did try to flirt with him....remember that sultry come-hither look she gave him when she was in the kitchen doorway?

That sultry look isn't going to work so well on Johnny Weir. And I doubt she's going to be able to bully him. What's she gonna do? Have Steve take him out back and arm wrestle him?

"The staffer said the falling out between Bob and Terri came after Mr Irwin spoke to his daughter-in-law "a few weeks ago'' about the treatment of staff, the management of Wildlife Warriors and "animal-welfare issues''."

What Bob kept saying in his official statement was that he wanted to focus on conservation, that he was not happy that he couldn't focus on conservation. Implying Terri was not focused on conservation. I think you can easily take that to mean she is focused on making a buck off the kids. That's the obvious interpretation.

My guess is that Kate would be rolled over very quickly on CA.
She's been a big fish in a little pond on K+8 and J+K+8, and of course demonstrated the ability to win a battle of wills with a 3-year old, but this is different.
CA has far stronger personalities, and I think Kate's Achilles heel will once again be her downfall-she is not an actor, performer, competitor, or athlete.
She is a woman who had too many kids at once, by sheer dumb luck, and maybe a little help from "Karen Kauffman".

Meagler!!! Happy, Happy, Happy for you, your dear daughter and family! Praying the same happens to your dear son. I know, the waiting is the worst part.

It is just a shame that Betty Broderick could of went and found a good lawyer that would take her case and her and Dan B could of settled out of court. She could of taken her settlement and started a new life with joint custody with her children. I wished she hadn't of killed Dan, his new wife and her unborn child.

Dan B penalized her every time she called and it was taped on the machine when she would curse. It was what a couple of hundred dollars each time. She did this many times. How can he be allowed to do that? Also, on the movie, her little boy overheard his mother leave a message and the look on his face and body language was horrible. I felt so bad for him. The scene to me is hard to watch.

My ex was such a jerk when he was leaving. 2 of my ds, ages 15 and 16 were in the house crawled up into fetal position while he was outside ripping the van seats out of the back of the van that I loved and threw them down and told me that I could sell them for money, he didn't need them. My oldest ds was 18 and at work.

He also threw over to the neighbors yard my mother's 9x13 restaurant pan (clean, I had in there to get back to my mother) and I managed to go over and get it. My mother was so upset about that because she had made many meals over 19 years feeding us AND HIM. So hurtful and disrespectful, all the way around.

That's something I wonder about too. I am sure there have been contestants in the past who had entourages, including personal security. But they are never shown on film with those entourages and/or body guards present.

I also think whether Kate gets selected as a contestant or not will tell us whether CA is in its death throes. Choosing Kate as a contestant means they're scraping the bottom of the barrel.

A little help from Karen Kauffman.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wonder if Jon knew about the drugs/shots that "Karen ordered". Either he found it among kate's junk and grabbed it and she didn't realize it, and he put it in his stuff to keep. Then it got thrown out into the trash by kate and Robert came along and found it.
That was so diabolical of kate to do this to herself, her future babies and Jon and family. To masterplan, manipulate Jon, the two drs. that didn't know she was seeing another dr. for the same goal. To get sympathy from the public paying taxpayers to pay for her defenseless babies. Horrible to state that when she was trying to get the same State taxpayer paid nurse for another year, that her babies were helpless because they couldn't get up and walk to the kitchen and get themselves a glass of water. First of all, actually when did kate allow them to have an actual glass? Ever?
Remember her and the girls at the tea shop with the china? So what if they accidentally break a cup. You had the money to pay for it. Of course you don't want them to do it, but making them SO nervous about it will cause it to happen. Control freak.
The signs that a poster said kate had put up in front of the gate? would they hold up in court if someone stopped and went through her trash that was in her garbage can sitting out on the road. Would fair game come into play?
Yup. Here in MA we had warmer 50s yesterday, then today expecting rain, ice pellets and tomorrow snow and back to the 20's in the daytime, maybe single digits at night. We still have high snowbanks, thick icy bits on the sidewalks and driveway ends, yet our witch-hazel tree started blooming yesterday! What a weird winter!
I'm officially sick of winter- and I'm like a little kid who loves "snow days".
It's been a real PITA with our new puppy! Usually, this time of yera, you'd need a light coat or sweater, but I've been trotting the pupster out in the snow, cold, rain- having to put on my coat, hat and scarf/mittens every blessed time!
Ugh, go away!
Today, almost 70. Tomorrow, single digits wind chills, Oh, but tonight, we're getting severe storms.
Yuck!
If her negotiations with CA is ANYTHING like THE DEMANDS she used to make while filming, she may not get offered a spot. I think that is what is going on since she has been fairly quiet on Twitter. I am positive she expects Steve to be included as her escort/bodyguard whether she pays or CA does.
****************
Just imagine what TFW's demands are for doing this show. She'll want a 6-figure salary. She doens't care that all the other stars made either $16,000 or $25,000. Nope, she's special, she has 8 kids, she needs big money. And she'll want Steve's salary included, because she needs to stay safe for her 8 kids. She'll need shorter hours than anyone else because she needs to go home and spend time with her 8 kids (translation: sleeping in and going to the spa). And, of course, she won't want to be required to do as much work as everyone else because she's so exhausted-ish from raising 8 kids. She'll want DT to foot the bill for her to have her hair done at Ted Gibson, she'll want her own luxury hotel room (forget about staying with the rest of the contestants), and nightly dinners ( for two, of course) at her favorite NYC restaurants. I'd love to DT's reaction to her list of demands!
Agree. Not sure why they were picked to race again. I liked the last team eliminated and hear they brought a lot of younger viewers in. They seemed to really enjoy the joys of traveling and the great opportunity of being on the show.The team before, I think one was more in the right, making a logical choice to keep moving, but the dynamics of her partner being very poor definitely factored into it, plus his attitude with his new partner..I cannot stand the Brenchels and not too keen on Team Toothy ( forget their names) Country Singers- they're ok but probably won't win unless they use the E.P wisely. Millicent, I checked out a few TAR forums!
The pressure of CA is going to bring out the "real Kate", and if she's desperate enough to take that risk, then she deserves every ugly scene that airs. How is she going to react to 16-hour days of hard work? She was exhausted after making lunch for the kids. Getting up early, not being able to go back to bed, working hard to raise money that she can't even get her greedy paws on. She won't be the main focus of the show, the other contestants will call her out on her bad attitude and failures, DT will publicly bring up all her faults, and then fire her. How are the sheep going to take all that? When Kate's crappy attitude, poor work ethic, and overall laziness are shown and pointed out publicly, are they going to be able to go back to believing she's really this uber-organized, hard working mom? When she melts down under pressure, how will the reconcile that with the positive-thinking little ray of sunshine they think she is?
Other shows will show clips of her bad behavior. Articles will be written about her failures. Who will they blame? I can just see Milo's tweets now, claiming that DT doesn't know how to run a business (you know, just like Tony D didn't know how to teach Kate to dance). And, like icing on top of the cake, this might be the perfect opportunity for Jon to get the kids away and possibly keep them away. The only thing that could make it better is if Robert Hoffman re-releases the book right as the show is starting.
I'd love to know what Kate plans on doing with the kids during her absence. Is there a power struggle going on right now with Jon regarding right of first refusal? Are the attorneys involved? I don't see Deanna being able to take off that much time to babysit--is Ashley next on the list?
I hope Jon stays true to his word and puts his foot down.
PA Dutch Mom said... 174
Yes, I do believe so. Dotty is in deep denial and will probably never accept the truth, because what does that make her?
&&&&&&&&&&&&
I read the excerpts from her interview:
"Dottie Sandusky said in an interview broadcast Wednesday on NBC's "Today" show that "there was nothing that went on because I was here" in the couple's small home in State College, where some of the victims reported being abused in the basement...Sandusky said in the interview recorded Monday that she believed that her husband showered with children but "that's the generation that Jerry grew up in."
She was "here" in the house every single time when an incident allegedly took place? I find that hard to believe. I guess she also was in the showers with old Jerry and his victims. None of the molestation could possibly have taken place because she was with him every single minute. How naive can you get?
I guess she's in survival mode. She's built that wall around herself and actually is convinced that he's innocent. It's probably the only way she can get through the day. Ignorance, in her case, is bliss.
She's saying that the lawyers were in it for the money. They orchestrated this whole thing. Blame the attorneys. They set up the entire thing. Sure they did.
PA Dutch Mom said... 175
It is just a shame that Betty Broderick could of went and found a good lawyer that would take her case and her and Dan B could of settled out of court. She could of taken her settlement and started a new life with joint custody with her children. I wished she hadn't of killed Dan, his new wife and her unborn child.
&&&&&&&&&&
I don't think that this could have been settled out of court. Certainly an monetary agreement could have been drawn up, but as a narcissist, she never would have let this thing go, no matter how much money she would have been awarded. A good attorney may have been able to handle the financial aspect of it, but she was hell bent on revenge, and no among of money could have satisfied the hatred she felt for Dan. She would have eventually blown a gasket and nothing good would have come out of it. Moving on was not an option for her. Heck, at her last parole hearing in October, she still was denied parole because she didn't feel any remorse. It's been how many years, and she still hasn't let it go. A hefty monetary award would not have been the answer.
I just read on People.com that Matt and Amy Roloff have separated. They always seemed to have a lot of tension between them, so it's not really surprising to me. Another TLC reality family bites the dust.
March 12, 2014 at 9:23 AM
*****************
That was one of my many peeves that made me lose interest in the show - the way Matt treated Amy, and the way she kept being a doormat. The marriage was dysfunctional for a long time, if what was shown on the show was fairly accurate. They both put too much attention and energy into the two oldest twin boys, gave a smattering to the daughter, and 1% to the remaining son. Matt always rode roughshod over Amy's wishes or concerns, and always did exactly as he wanted.
I was sorry to hear they had resumed filming. As you can probably tell, I have very little positive to say about that family.
I like Margie, the mom and I don't actively dislike Luke, the son. However, I wonder if in addition to being deaf, Luke has some other emotional or mental delays? Or has his mom, in her deep love and concern for his well-being, inadvertently caused him to not quite grow up? He lacks a level of maturity and self-control that I believe cannot be entirely attributed to his deafness.
So yes, I too would like to say goodbye to this duo, wish them well, and wish never to see them grace another TAR season again.
Does anyone interact with him/her, have any kind of a "conversation," or is this tweeter basically ignored? I wonder if the "regs" over there know who this is.
Call Me Crazy said... 180
The one thing we know is that TFW is very, very good at grifting. It is possible she could contact a bunch of companies and get them to each pony up small amounts of maybe $1K - $5K in cash/merchandise in return for TV exposure. It may be the only way they could afford to have their product seen or mentioned on television, considering the average cost of a 30-second prime-time ad for even this declining show is probably upwards of $40K.
Now whether she would use that superior grifting skill remains to be seen. Chances are, she would be too lazy to work that hard.
getofftwitter said... 181
I'm for one am not surprised that the Roloffs are separated, this has been coming on for a long time. Amy is probably tired of Matt doing things with out telling her, signing probably contracts with out telling her or asking her. Any normal person would get angry, and tired of finding out last. Matt Roloff is a very annoying person, he wants it all, but never asks the other people involve, what they think or want, just goes ahead, figuring they will accept. Then gets mad, when they say no or have other plans. He pulls the semi-hissy fit, I'm so disappointed, nobody wants to do what I want. Like the last couple of shows, his kids, some of which have left the nest, I don't think any of the kids are interested enough to take over the farm(Matts wish). Amy, says: let the kids do what they want. Matt comes up with crazy ideas, and goes with some of them, not even saying anything to Amy. Amy is looking forward to retiring, not running a full time farm and businesses, or being on TV anymore. Matt must be of the thinking, if he retires, he will die. Got to keep working. I'm with Amy, if you have the money packed away, kids are almost gone on their own, it's time to hang it up and enjoy life, (that is if you can) financially, not work.
As for Kate, being on CA, I will believe, when an official announcement is made, not any of these hearsay rumors. This happened last couple of years too.
It's like that here on the Cape as well. Yesterday was beautiful and today was pushing 60. Tonight, rain ending with snow with the temperature plummeting into the 20's. Tomorrow's temperature is supposed to be around 31 and tomorrow night in the teens. Spring, where o' where are you?
Bitchy Pants said... 185
Call Me Crazy -- I had the exact same thought. Sandusky's what? 69? 70? I'm from the same generation (I'm 66) and I NEVER heard of adults showering with kids, except for parents occasionally with their toddlers. I STILL don't know anyone who thinks it's acceptable, except, again, parents who shower with their toddlers.
I'll be very surprised if TFMJG is on CA. However, I predict that she'll find a way to blame Jon when she isn't. She'll spin it as "the kids didn't want to go live with their father for a month", or "Jon wouldn't take the kids, and I couldn't afford to pay someone to stay with them" or some other such nonsense. There's no way on God's green earth that she is ready, willing and able to put in the amount of work involved in doing that show. She'd be a failure on an epic scale.
Crazy weather here, too (Ohio). It was 65 yesterday, is snowing right now, and is supposed to go down to -1 tonight, with windchills of -15 to -20. I think we came back from Key West too soon.
Unbelievable. I think it was a disservice to Jerry Sandusky's victims to put her and her farcical conspiracy theory on tv. What purpose was served? Ratings? Not a good enough reason. I'm sure those young men (especially those who were attacked in the basement with Dottie upstairs) felt violated all over again. A man doesn't go to jail on 10 counts of molestation as a result of a conspiracy cooked up by money hungry lawyers.
She has a right to refuse to accept the truth, but she should never get a public platform to spew her delusion.
I still can't wrap my head around this. Kate avoids work like the plague and gives 00000001% in everything she does. Are her two "running buddies" going to show up and do the show for... errr... with her? This show is physically and mentally taxing, Kate gets exhausted sitting and paying bills.
I'm still sticking with my prediction that Kate stays for 2-3 weeks then leaves as scheduled "for the kids." She wants to stick it to Jon in a public way. 2 weeks of being on this show and doing as little as possible to get by should do the trick.
The memories made me smile.
I taught my girls, one at a time, how to actually transition from tub baths to the more 'adult' type shower, with daughter and I in the shower together in our bathing suits. We washed our hair but the rest was just going though motions and teaching. When my son, the youngest, wanted a big boy shower, his 3 big sisters put on their suits and got in the shower with him in HIS suit. Yes, crowded! And real live squeals of laughter and fun in there. They got water every where and made a mess. As soon as I heard the water shut off, with biggest sister giving instructions on how to do that safely, I slammed open the bathroom door and stood there with my hands on my hips. Doing my best Miss Hannigan/Carol Burnett, I bellowed "Do I hear HAPPINESS in here!?!"
After a brief moment, during which they digested that, they squealed and laughed some more and mopped up the bathroom floor.
These are REAL childhood memories; they are all in their 30s now and still remember this.
Anyway, that was how my kids ever showered with anyone. I am in my late 50's and I have never heard of a naked adult showering with anyone other than their significant adult other.
If this showering thing was common during Dottie's upbringing, it explains a whole lot.
What would drive me nuts about Matt R. was he would start one project and half bake do it and then start another one, and not even ask or tell Amy. They had tension alright. You could cut it with a knife. Couldn't believe she didn't have her house more organized. She should of hired a couple of maids to come in 2 times a week and at least keep her from getting behind.
When I started keeping my school mates children, she told me, my job is to take care of the child, only! But they would take naps or were playing and I saw a couple of piles of clothes that were waiting in line to be washed. I checked the washing machine and dryer. Clothes dried, clothes wet.
I would have her laundry done and folded, stacked, dishes washed, the beans in the crock pot by the time it was time for me to take the child to the dad at the store they owned. She was in college getting her B.S in education.
I did this for about a month for the same pay she was paying me normally and she came one day to get her child and told me that she appreciated so much for having everything done when she came home. She said she loved being able to walk in and sit down in the floor with her child and PLAY! Not do house work.
She raised my pay, significantly! I told her she didn't have to do that, that I was satisfied for what she was paying me. She is wonderful. Her mother is different. My friends sister had a baby and I went and took care of things to help her. I scrubbed, did everything. My first paycheck (for a week) was for about 15? dollars and an gently used outfit that she couldn't fit in! I was what? I didn't say anything, because she would of told my friend and I would never hurt her feelings!
It was just for a couple of weeks, but I called my friend and said, hey I can come back! She said GREAT!
See, kate, she didn't have to pay me extra, because I said I was fine with the same salary, but she did because it was worth it to her to spend quality time with her children. And, I spared a good friends feelings by not telling her what her mother did. Me and my friend had a pact with each other not to tell anyone what she was paying me b/c it was nobody's business but ours. She also said her mother would have a fit.
Saw a promo with Honey Boo Boo. Unbelievable! They all dress like the Kardashians! A 1 hour special called the KarTRASHians!
If only kate could of thought of that! She could of had a 1 hour special pretending to be the KarTRASHians! She is slipping! snark
If DT said that kate was a good organizer and would be a great PM, maybe he just said that for the ratings, and sweet talk her into signing on. I agree, CA is scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Two episodes fill the 9 - 10 a.m. time slot. Would TLC still be paying them for these rerun programs? Just hearing Kate's voice talking about her 9 yr. friendship with her best friend Jamie raised the hair on the back of my neck. Thought to myself "another one bit the dust." Saw the silver fox, Steve in the background on the train to NYC. Kids looked so little. I had to turn it off quickly. Cannot stand the phoniness. We may not know Kate, but we certainly know enough about her to change the channel.
