Five important lessons from 'The Armstrong Lie'

"The truth in all this is hard. Such a huge number of people wanted to believe so bad, that they hated anyone who didn't believe, and hated anyone who questioned it."

The Armstrong Lie is a documentary chronicling Lance Armstrong's comeback tour. The documentary had completed most of its filming when Lance's lies were exposed and he was subsequently banned from the sporting world. The filmmaker then went back to the cutting room floor and re-edited the film to incorporate the story of a dramatic fall from grace.

Here are five lessons to be learned from his powerful work:

1. Lying catches up eventually.

This is an obvious one. Lance was described by many as a gifted storyteller, able to craft a careful and compelling lie to sell products, and himself. If anyone was equipped to deceive, it was him. Lies piled up upon lies so effortlessly for the star that some friends said they didn't think he even knew he was lying. But a house built on sand will eventually fall, and so too did Lance's deceitful empire.

2. Suing can't always make your problems go away.

Sometimes the nice guy
finishes first in the end.
Lance used his incredible wealth and power to try to make his critics shut up, often suing or threatening lawsuits, and for many people it worked and they crawled into a black hole and disappeared. But Lance's former teammate, Frankie Andreu, and Frankie's wife Betsy, were determined to get the truth out there. They had nothing to lose. Frankie had already confessed his own wrongdoing, admitting he used performance enhancing drugs during several races, and he was too old to get back into the sport anyway. The Andreus also felt very burned by Lance. They felt that Lance's continued insistence on sticking to his lies when Frankie and many others had long ago owned up to what they did wrong, was perpetuating a dark cloud over the cycling world. Lance also used to be their close friend, and they felt betrayed that he would contradict their story and smear their names when they knew they were telling the truth (Betsy once accidentally found a cooler filled with banned substances in Lance's bus). Betsy especially was a woman of principles who deeply resented cheaters and liars. Lance didn't understand someone caring more about their principles than their money, because Lance is, quite obviously, without principles.

When Armstrong realized the Andreus weren't going to back down, he upped the ante by having some of his people threaten them. Even that didn't work. Lance also orchestrated campaigns to shut others up, like his former friend Jonathan Vaughters. Lance eventually apologized to Betsy, and whether it was sincere (many viewers will think it's not) it was an apology she accepted graciously. Betsy, with all her courage and determination, as well as her penchant for forgiveness, emerges from the documentary a key reason the house of cards fell, and the voice of morality. She is a modern day hero and whistleblower.

3. Your haters may have a point.

Armstrong chose to frame his critics as haters and liars, and tried to get rid of them through intimidation and lawsuits. Much of the media was reluctant, and scared, to believe the critics. However in the end the critics were right. If a bunch of people are jumping up and down trying to explain that something is just not the way it seems, they just may be on to something.

4. Quitting while you're ahead is often a good thing.

Quite simply, Lance got greedy. Three or four first place finishes weren't enough, he wanted more. Most Lance historians agree that had he simple stopped at the top of his game, none of this ever would have come out.

5. Journalists should never be fans too

This reminded us so much of Kate Coyne and her odd defense of all things Kate Gosselin. The filmmaker admitted he was a fan of Lance, and set about to make a documentary about his hero. The fi
Kate Coyne
lm was almost complete before the filmmaker finally got a clue that the house of cards was falling. Perhaps being so enamored with the guy prevented him from seeing the truth. As a result, he had to tell the story in hindsight. Had he been willing to open his eyes to his hero, he could have become the greatest whistleblower of them all and a hero himself. He was too busy being a fan to realize he had a Pulitzer story within his grasp. A journalist should never become so captivated by their famous subjects or the story they are telling that they miss the truth.

The Armstrong Lie is available on Netflix, Redbox, and many other outlets.

Thank you Luke!

It really blew me away how much his tactics resembled Kate's when this all started to unfold. The documentary sheds even more light on the similarities, especially with the malicious lawsuits.

I can only conclude that Lance and Kate must both be on the same spectrum in terms of why they are "different" than normal people. Narcissism, sociopathy, personality disorder, I'm not sure. What's telling is that the documentary made it clear Lance has been like this for a very long time. It was not fame that made him this way, he was always a prick. I believe the same goes for Kate.

Perhaps their misdeeds are not on the same playing field but their M.O. is exactly the same. And they both took a mighty fall IMO, in the end. You can only do this for so long.

I've had this post in the can for awhile and since there's not too much going on otherwise and people wanted a new post I fired it out. Do watch the documentary if you get a chance!

Thank you, Admin, not only for the wonderful blog, but for this excellent post. I've been reading/lurking for going on a year. That I finally took the initiative to do a search for more info on TFW led me here which surely has given me more understanding as to why the public especially has turned a blind eye to her horrific "mothering" and so forth.
Again I thank you and everyone else here who make wonderful words flow into thoughts and practical ideas which have certainly formed
understanding for me and no doubt so many others.

Kate has definitely fallen but with a stint on CA and a new TLC special, her star appears to be on the rise again.

I can't help but wonder if Jon's recent returns to reality tv didn't help spark renewed interest in her? If Jon had just kept his life private, would she have these opportunities now? We'll never know, and it's a moot point now anyway, but I have wondered if there was a connection.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 6

Slimom I think it's a fair point that whether they intend it or not they both sort of keep each other out there. Again, what people loved was Jon and Kate so anytime a situation can be framed as Jon vs Kate there is more interest. I know there are some people here who think they may even both be in on something. I don't believe that at all, but I don't think it's a completely ridiculous notion either.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 7

Actually what I do believe is Kate will sometimes bring Jon up with some or other petty complaint because she knows it will guarantee a headline. Quite pathetic. Why not tell your lawyer? What's radar gonna do?

Also, thanks to this blog, when Marty Singer appeared with director Bryan Singer to state they have proof the accusations against the director are false and they will counter sue, I knew who Marty Singer was! And I understood just what it all meant! Marty Singer is not going to say he has proof unless he has it, he is not going to say they will counter sue unless he us ready to go to court. It wasn't a lie. He went to those schools but he also did postgraduate work at the University of Pennsylvania. That is indeed an ivy league school.

I heard this the other day and keep forgetting to bring it up!

Well how fitting, Marty Singer defends Kate Gosselin, and entertainment industry child molesters who prey on 16 year old boys. You know the sort of people we have been warning could easily have access to the Gosselins kids.

Right. Exactly my point. I think now and again, when she's feeling ignored in the media, she brings him up because she knows it's a sure thing she'll get a headline out of it. It's sad. She hates him, but she still wants to call upon him when she needs him.

And Lance Armstrong sued innocent people and he won the law suits. Karma bit his but though and he has to repay nearly every cent he was given. Good enough. He had no shame in the face when he was doing all of his shams and hurt so many people along the way. Look at him now. He is disgraced and no longer a hero.

I find the Lance Armstrong story strangely inspirational as corny as that sounds. Yes he hurt a lot of people financially and emotionally. He was a cheater and a liar and people gave millions to his charity based on his lies. A few people knew the truth, and slowly, methodically, they began exposing that truth. Even in the face of enormous opposition from one of the most powerful athletes on the planet, they kept going until the public acknowledged the truth and justice was served.

It's a story of not giving up when the truth is on your side. A story of morality winning in the end, no matter how long the row to hoe is. It's applicable to Kate for sure, but so many other situations too we see every day. I really found Betsy particularly moving. She has three children, and some day those children will be old enough to understand this. And I hope they realize what she did someday and are proud of her.

That's what really makes your kids proud. Standing up for something that really matters, like integrity. Not silly twitter accounts, internet outings, or an ex reality star's right to make a fool of herself.

As for her being on CA. It has been made clear that the show is sinking. DT is trying what ever he can to get ratings. So after years of saying NO to her he told her YES. I think another similarity between Lance and TFW is that they each have something that has kept people more sympathetic than necessary. Lance with his cancer, and Kate with her "litter" of children. It's something they could hide behind -- a kind of buffer.
Only a monster would criticize people with such burdens.

Thanks for the new post, Admin! And nice to see some old names returning, and some new ones joining the fun.

lukebandit said... 34

Geraldo may have had a couple of blunders along the way, but does anyone remember the documentary he did on the horribly crowded, pits of hell Willowbrook State School? He won a Peabody Award for it.

I remember a short clip of the naked children and running amuck, sliding on the floor, dirty, underfed. I read about it on Wiki and it is heartbreaking. He reported on it in 1972 and it finally shut down in 1987! 15 years later. They even had a former guard housed there that was convicted of kidnapping and killing a little girl or I don't know how old she was. She was buried on the grounds of the school.

Then he is locked up in there, around children! What idiots!

Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willowbrook_State_School

When the story started breaking about the young actor accusing the director of child abuse, I was going to post about it being a future post when more info came out. If the A-listers are ever named who were at that party, wow. I believe the director is guilty. But what I can't understand is why did he keep going to the parties? Did they threaten him? Force him to go? I remember reading that he was told they woul crush him, something like that.

Where were his parents???

Thanks for another great topic, Admin! I see in Lance Armstrong and TFW's stories a lot of similarities with that of Tiger Woods'. Ego-driven, all of them. They preyed on people's sympathies, exploited their vulnerabilities, and were shameless (relentless…) in their lies. TFW hasn't been fully exposed yet, but I feel certain it will happen to her, too.

And as for the gullible fans and press, well…! People believe what they want to believe, even when their eyes and other senses paint a very different story.

And some of the tweets are going to The Donald. One said about kate, she da touch the cotton candy p hair! I am surprised The Donald hasn't given Penn The Wrath of Death on him!

Hi Luke bandit! I am a huge fan of the X-Men franchise, so the accusations against Bryan Singer the director caught my attention. Especially since, the accuser had many years to bring this up, why now when a big publicity push for the next X-Men film is about to start? The directors denial and claims he was in Toronto doing pre production for the first X-Men film sounds very plausible. we will have to see what evidence comes out. Right now it seems like both accuser and accused are trying to get a judgment in the.court of public opinion. That matters, but what really matters is what can be proven in a court of law.

TFW Did Everybody Wrong said... 40

Thank you for the welcome Crazy.

Lance Armstrong has long interested me so when I began reading about the cheating issues surrounding him, my eyes perked up all because of Betsy's reasonable yet credible efforts to bring the truth of who and what Lance is to the world of biking.

It appears that Admin and RH have also done what they can to expose another narcissitic bully, TFW.

Then yesterday I saw/read where Kim Novak stepped out to reveal that Donald Trump shamed and bullied her about her appearance at the awards ceremony. DT is as he is just as "they" all seem to be yet it seems to me that none of these driven-to-be-number-one people ever feel even a modicum of shame for their actions and/or conduct.

Why? That bent in the mind thingy seems to work quite well for them.
My narcissistic bully thrived upon humiliating me even in public if that was available, because to win, to appear "cute" and witty in the face of any situation is gonna get them to the top at least in their minds.

May I ask, please, even thought I'm sure it has been addressed before? Why oh why does TFW permit the garbage I see on her TL?
Do other Twitter people keep their TL "clean"?

And when people start bashing her ex? It's like Christmas morning.

Silimom, I don't believe Kate's star is rising with CA and the TLC follow up. CA probably filmed it's last season and TLC probably has some contractual agreement to fulfill with Kate as part of her severance. She really hasn't done that much since TLC canned her and because we keep up on this blog, we are more aware of her antics than the general public. She has barely gotten work but I suspect she will continue popping up once or twice a year on some crappy show.

ITA she hides behind the kids. How dare anyone criticize a single mom raising her kids ALL by herself!!! She needs money!!!

Lies always have a way of bubbling out. It's already started with Kate. As her monetary power fades, her threats will be meaningless. Too late for Robert. I think he wanted to make a name for himself outing her but didn't take the time or seek counsel to protect himself. I suspect everything has been turned over to her. He's done but there are others who know the truth and eventually they will speak of what they witnessed. It will happen just like it happened to Lance Armstrong.

Tamara Tattles Reams ROL:

... What I know for sure is that Radar Online has no source at all for Celebrity Apprentice. I try not to call out other sites, but Radar Online really likes to steal my stories. And I am about to post some HUGE spoilers I have been working on for weeks and I know that they will appear as an EXCLUSIVE on Radar Online within hours. So before I do that, Let me point out the issues with ROL reporting on this topic so far. In fact, I should probably go look to see what they are saying because other than a couple of rumors I have seen attributed to them elsewhere I might be missing something. Okay. It looks to me like a hatchet job on Brandi. Oh how convenient. Let’s make up shit about someone that everyone hates at the moment. The problem with that is, people with real sources know Brandi is doing well.

Here is the shit ROL is slinging.

1. ROL says Brandi is in trouble for drinking and taking Xanax on the show and was sent home to get herself together.

Complete horseshit. Brandi is doing very well actually. She plays well with most. And continues to prove herself. If I am saying that, you know it is true. What she does after filming I have no idea. But she is playing a great game.

Verdict BULLSHIT.

2. ROL Brandi is not getting along with Vivica (This is from today).

Um, these two have not been on the same team for almost two weeks. They may not like each other but they spent less than 2 weeks together.

Verdict BULLSHIT.

3. ROL says Brandi and Kenya are fighting!

The sky is blue! Exclusive sources say Brandi says Kenya has a fat butt! This is what tabloids do. They assume these two would fight and well Kenya’s storyline includes her ass so this must be an easy win for ROL. But if anyone every held this site accountable, they would see they just anticipate stuff and have no idea what is going on.

According to my sources, (which will be ROL sources tomorrow) it’s true they still don’t like each other, but they worked together well enough to win many challenges. Including one with Kenya as PM. In that challenge when The Donald asked Kenya who she would take with her to the boardroom if she lost, or who was the weakest link or whatever he asked she said, Brandi and read her in the boardroom. But THEY WON. You know how Donald does.. He set her up. BUT THEY WON !

But since ROL had no sources they just made shit up.

Verdict: Predicting Water is Wet. And still not getting it right at the time.

Sneakpeek to my tea: Kenya is not on the team with Brandi anymore…but it is not for the reason you think.

So ROL has NOTHING and I have A SHIT TON of spoilers I have been working on for weeks.

I’m just posting this so you know when all my hard work is stolen, you heard it here first. Please invite your friends and neighbors to follow me here or they can read it later on ROL...

Yesterday (April 16) while RHOA star Porsha Stewart was being booked for assaulting her co-star Kenya Moore, Moore was spotted shooting scenes for the new season of Celebrity Apprentice with Vivica Fox and … Claudia Jordan.
Despite being “fired” from Celebrity Apprentice All-Stars last season, a source close to production told HipHollywood exclusively that Jordan will be making a couple appearances on Celebrity Apprentice.
According to the source, Jordan will be helping during a couple of the challenges because of her experience working on past seasons of the show. Whatsmore, the source says Jordan, despite the drama last season with Omarosa Manigualt, gets along great with Moore and Vivica Fox.
Camera’s caught the ladies filming and having a good time. And even at one point, Moore picks up a camera and shoots some photos of Vivica.

There are all kinds of "lies" . Regarding Geraldo's education. Jane, you did a Google search and came up with some shaky info. How does one do "post docotoral" work after getting a law degree? He attended a summer journalism program at Columbia, nothing about getting a degree from there. His own bio on Fox indicates nothing about his studies at either UPenn or Columbia. Don't you find that interesting? Wouldn't a journalist want to put on record his education in journalism. My GUESS would be he took a course at UPenn and did a course or 2 at Columbia. It is stretching the truth to say he has several degrees from Ivy League schools. Yes, this is a lot on the same off- topic, but when the subject is "lies" , I think the big picture is important. Someone makes a claim and then it is believed as true. Geraldo might be a smart man and a good journalist, but to imply that he was a graduate of several Ivy League schools is a gross exaggeration.

$$$

A JD is a Juris Doctor, so it's proper to say post doctoral work even though it's more like a grad degree than a phd. Lots of JDs do so. There are many reasons, not the least of which is you are considering being a professor. Other reasons are wanting to be a specialized investigator or consultant. Happens all the time.

As for the Columbia "summer program" it is one of the most intensive and respected journalistic workshops out there. You can't stumble in hung over and breeze through it. I'm sure the application process was vigorous and the workshop intensive. Kudos to him for getting in. I don't get the debate over his extensive and impressive education. It is what it is. You may think him a fool but he's an educated fool.

If you're going to do something like that to yourself and people make comments, suck it up and admit that you may have gone a little too far with whatever you've had done. Joan Rivers is a good example and makes fun of herself all the time. Hell's bells, we talk about TFW's non-procedures and appearance all the time.

This may not be a popular opinion but it's mine and I'll own it.

I don't know whether it's unpopular but I completely agree with you!

I think when public figures, especially the rich and famous, cry bullying, it cheapenes what ral bullying is and is insulting to children who really are being bullied. That's the same attitude Lance Armstrong took too--I'm being bullied. Not, I'm a public figure who is being questioned by those who have every right to question me, especially since I'm selling them a certain image.

Trump's comment may not have been NICE but it wasn't "bullying."

The key element of bullying to me is that imbalance of power, and the victim usually being in a position where they can't fight back on the same level.

A celebrity can take to twitter or the media, or heaven forbid pick up the phone and hash out your difference with Trump directly. Somewhere along the way, these pathetic people started confusing bullying with "cat fight."

Yes!!! Here's what just kills me- people like Lance, Kate and others who have told lies, embellished and fabricated stories to create a hero type persona. Look at me! I'm just a strong, determined hero who wants to help others and spread my message of hope :)

However, when the lies are questioned, they immediately claim they are being bullied. When the lies are investigated and revealed- THOSE PEOPLE TURN INTO BULLIES OF VICIOUS AND EPIC PROPORTIONS AND BECOME OBSESSED WITH RUINING AND DEMOLISHING THOSE WHO ARE TRYING TO TELL THE TRUTH!! Even if it means breaking the law repeatedly for them to accomplish this. Not only do these people feel entitled just in general, they feel entitled to lie and deceive and everyone's just supposed to look the other way. Or else.

I was reading back and I can't find anyone who said that he has "several degrees" from Ivy League schools...that he studied at an Ivy League school (UPenn), and is a Columbia grad (journalism program). How is that stretching the truth? What else could you say...he did work at UPenn and graduated from Columbia journalism program. Period.

And when people start bashing her ex? It's like Christmas morning."

==============

Exactly. She not only needs the adulation, but she needs to be able to claim she's a victim. That's what the haters on there just can't seem to grasp. If they'd stop this antagonism and arguments with the sheeple, Kate would have nothing left but the adoration from the few fans. That would get pretty old after awhile. The non-fans are giving her exactly what she wants...the reason to cry "bullying." It kind of defeats the whole purpose of being a non-fan. Kate loves it and they are playing right into her hands. Not only that, but without the haters on there, the sheeple would have nothing from which to defend Kate! That Twitter would die in no time flat.

Who is this "Fired Just Like Kate?" I have a fairly good idea. Sounds just like a regular tweeter who disappears, comes back and then disappears again.

And that is really what is so important to remember is that celebrities are SELLING us something. We may not actually hand them a 20 dollar bill directly but they make millions off people who buy into the image. Kate sold a certain image based on lies and people paid good money for it. Same with Lance.

If an image is suspect, a lie, or misleading, and people are forking over money for this defective product, then people have a right to let them know the product is defective.

It's no different than someone leaving a review on Amazon for a vacuum cleaner saying don't waste your money, it doesn't suck up shit.

We are a country that prides itself on being able to tell others "don't waste your money." It keeps everyone honest.

I will make one final comment, and, again, when the subject of the post is "lies", I would think readers are concerned with the truth. This comment was made and then discussed on the previous post "Geraldo's resume is astounding. I think he's got like five advanced degrees. He went to UPenn, an Ivy League."

from his bio on Fox, his current employer "Rivera is a graduate of the University of Arizona and Brooklyn Law School and is the author of seven books"

from his bio at the Museum of Broadcaster Couumincations "GERALDO RIVIERA. Born in New York City, New York, U.S., 4 July 1943. B.S., University of Arizona, 1965; JD. Brooklyn Law School, 1969; postgraduate work at University of Pennsylvania, 1969; attended School of Journalism, Columbia University, 1970."

from UPI - "He is an alumnus of University of Arizona, where he played varsity lacrosse as goalie. From September 1961 to May 1963, he attended the State University of New York Maritime College, where he was a member of the rowing team. He received his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1969, did postgraduate work at the University of Pennsylvania that same year, and briefly attended the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism during the summer of 1970."

his own words 'As their spokesman, I appeared on "The Today Show," got spotted by a TV executive, sent to a special summer program at Columbia University"

his bio when recognized his work for the Hispanic Heritage 'Geraldo is an alumnus of University of Arizona, where he played varsity lacrosse as goalie. From September 1961 to May 1963, he attended the State University of New York Maritime College, where he was a member of the rowing team. He is NOT a Columbia GRAD, unless anyone can cite a reference to this. He attended a summer program. The Masters in Journalism is a 10 month program. And I don't think anyone can comment on how pretigious or vigorous the summer program was, or the application process was, in 1970.

I actually don't know why there is so much debate on this, though I have contributed more than my share. But several comments were made on this site and believed to be true, where there is no credible evidence to support it.

Kate has definitely fallen but with a stint on CA and a new TLC special, her star appears to be on the rise again.

I can't help but wonder if Jon's recent returns to reality tv didn't help spark renewed interest in her? If Jon had just kept his life private, would she have these opportunities now? We'll never know, and it's a moot point now anyway, but I have wondered if there was a connection
888888888888888888888

It's probably impossible to know, but one thing that I do know for certain: Kate's sole purpose in life is to get back on tv in any type of cushy gig. She will sell out her kids if it gets her what she wants. So whether Jon's stint on that therapy show gave her an extra push, I have no doubt she was already pushing the entire time.

I don't see Kate's star being on the rise again. If I could post a chart that showed the number of viewers interested in watching a show with Kate on it, we would see it start at zero, then rise rapidly during the early seasons of the show. The highest point would be when Jon & Kate were splitting. Then we would see the line on the chart begin a downward shift. There may be the occasional small spike upward here and there, but for the most part, the line has reached close to zero once more. And the high numbers cannot be attributed solely to Kate. People tuned in to see the children, and to watch the dynamic of a young couple allegedly struggling financially with having such a large family all at once.

Kate's persona of a harried mother of 8 was all smoke and mirrors. Most people who were fans of her have moved on, because they saw the reality some time ago. She will never be able to regain the level of popularity she once had; just as Lance Armstrong has been too thoroughly exposed to ever be taken seriously again either.

You can read all about it online, and that statement simply isn't true.

Columbia's journalism school in general has been pretty much world renowned since the journalism program was founded by Joseph Pulitzer in 1912. Yes, that Pulitzer. Their graduates go on to careers at the NY Times or 60 Minutes.

Fred Friendly started the summer program in the 60's. You know, thee Fred Friendly of CBS. And was teaching there exactly when Geraldo was there. There's no debate about that program, in 2014 or in 1970. It has always been incredibly competitive. It has always been world renowned. Geraldo gets all my respect for getting into the program.

Blech Geraldo!

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 75

That's not exactly what Giraldo said but that's where he clearly has poor common sense, and doesn't have a good idea about how things are going to be interpreted.

He was trying to explain that there was evidence that would support that she was a good mother. He was speaking like a lawyer. He was talking about some of the more benign home videos and such. That's simply the truth, there were some benign videos where you couldn't really say that video shows bad mothering. I doubt most mothers pull out the camera when they are being inappropriate, unless you're Kate! There is just no good way to say that without sounding like you're defending her. There was also of course, plenty of evidence to show she's a bad one.

And apparently there was a documentary in production about sexual abuse in Hollywood, the accuser is involved in somehow. Its going to be an interesting story when all the facts come out.

In that same vein, don't just post a link without saying anything. Speaking for myself and I'm assuming others, I don't necessarily want to click on every single link posted here. I usually am not interested whatsoever in yet another rag mag story about how Kendra hates Brandi, but unless you tell me what it is, I have to click on it to find out.

Take 20 seconds of your time and post either the title of the article you are linking to or your own brief summary.

Same goes for tweets. Tweets from twitter accounts we're not familiar with, with no context from you, are confusing. Why is this person posting this? Please give some context. It can be simple as, here's a random person on twitter who doesn't appear to be a fan or hater, and look what they just said about this! Actually, if TFW can accuse scads of folks of bullying her then I reckon that Kim Novak can accuse DT of the same thing. And, if being a bully is the new catch phrase then so be it for I have no problem with that since I'm not a public figure nor do I wish to accuse anyone who may not like me or my appearance of being a bully.

I believe that Admin has stated above that a journalist should not be a fan of his/her subject so doesn't that mean that we as the public shouldn't become so star struck that we can't see the faults of the celebrity? Kim Novak is old.....Just as I am old so if she feels bullied then that's fine with me. Old people have different values and reasons; and maybe we have devalued what younger people can easily reason away. Besides, Kim Novak hasn't been seen nor heard of for years so let's give her her due, please, and not make fun of her face publically as DT did.

Another person cut from the same cloth as TFW and Armstrong, is Greg Mortenson --the author of 3 Cuos of Tea. He published lies about his charity work in Afghanistan, and used that as a springboard to launch himself globally. He treated his nonprofit as a piggy bank, and has been disgraced. Along the way, he pissed off Jon Krakauer, who wrote the a booklet called 3 Cups of Deceit, exposing his lies.

My neighborhood book club read the book right before 60 minutes broke the story. I was soundly criticized for voicing my suspicions, which were aroused by something he said about being a burn nurse. I was a burn nurse, and his statement about how gratifying it is to ease the pain of burn victims is just not plausible. There is not enough morphine in the world to ease the pain--it is an excruciating ordeal, and a very difficult job. I figured that if he would lie about that, then there were probably a lot of other things he lied about.

Ultimately, what brings people like that down is their ruthless using of people, who then feel enraged and bent on bringing them down.

What about duping good hard-working people in to donating gift cards and cash to a family that truly doesn't need it? Where is the shame? Again, it doesn't exist. It's a true let down when you have sacrificed to help someone only to find out you were duped. This applies to both Armstrong and Gosselin. Leaves a horrible taste and takes a while to get over it. A JD is an advanced degree. He certainly received that.

The summer program is specifically for minorities so to say he got in because he's a minority is silly. They're ALL minorities. It was designed to promote minorities in journalism at a time when it was all white men. I imagine there were hundreds of other minorities who were happy to take his place if Columbia's journalism program for minorities wasn't good enough for him.

Yes and Scott said something about how she wasn't fitting in with their culture.

I have no idea how you can blame that on anyone but herself. I'm really glad Scott wrote what he wrote because he made it crystal clear the "haters" didn't play one bit of a role in her firing. If they had she would have been fired before she even started. Thank you Scott.

Didn't he use the word "authenticity?" I seem to remember that and wondered exactly what he meant.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 114

He used the word authenticity but I distinctly remember him referring to company culture because I remember thinking there is no way on God's green earth that can be blamed on a hater. A hater could not possibly have any say in how Kate fits in with company culture. It's not like anyone in their right mind could be bombarding CC with emails about "company culture", how on earth would they know what their culture is and whether Kate fits in with it?

It was very validating, because he completely took the blame off the "haters." I found the quote, here it is:

"Ms. Gosselin is simply not a good fit with the wonderful team and culture at CouponCabin.”

I take that quote to also imply she was not a team player, which is another thing a "hater" would know absolutely nothing about or could influence Scott about unless they were in that company.

What was interesting is that the bulk of his Dear John letter wasn't so much about her blogs themselves (and not at all about public perception of her) as it was about her, Kate, as a person and her, Kate as a co-worker. What a fantastic pink slip letter. Too bad I doubt she took it to heart.

There may or may not be a book. If you are interested in the subject, however, may I recommend " Crimes Against Humanity" by Benjamin Ricci. It is about the horrors that took place in Massachusetts.
Dr. Ricci's book could benefit from some editing, (analogous to Robert's) but he passed several years ago.
His son is alive and well, living in a group home.
Also, for internet research, Geraldo also did an expose on Letchworth Village in NY.

Other than being disagreeable and playing the diva role to the max, I wonder what she did to really tick them off at CC. I guess unless an insider spills, we'll never know for sure. Prairiemary, you are too nice to come in here, in and out and stir up things! I love reading your posts.

Watched several Law and Order SVU's and Law and Order: Criminal Intent. They were pretty gruesome today. 2 or 3 I had already seen, but there was just nothing else really to watch.

Frankie and Betsy Andreu remind me of Aunt Jodie and Uncle Kevin trying to stop the kate the snake train wreck. They wrestled with her and they got bit and had to back off. Frankie & Betsy, Kevin & Jodie are heros, even though F and B succeeded and K and J did the best they could.

I hope the kids were able to see Kevin and Jody while the monster was gone.

Oh, remember she tweeted, Still having a blast! So transparent. Code speak: I just got fired, Steve and I are headed to a tropical island for rest and relaxation until I am summoned back to CA.

Extending it as long as she can. Hopefully, Jon will be able to take Everybody to Church tomorrow for Sunrise Services!

Happy Easter to all who celebrate!

That's not exactly what Giraldo said but that's where he clearly has poor common sense, and doesn't have a good idea about how things are going to be interpreted.

He was speaking like a lawyer. He was talking about some of the more benign home videos and such

====

Whether he was speaking like a lawyer or not that is what he said.

Geraldo: "...The record is conclusive. This was a good mother. You see the video. You see the still shots. You see her, you see the child...the child lovingly looking in the mother's eyes."

O'Reilly: "How does a mother enter a wet body contest when her baby is missing? How does that happen?"

Geraldo: "Because maybe her mind is so distorted by years of abuse she can't think straight. ...Maybe she's mentally ill, maybe she's psychotic. Maybe...who knows, but that is not the crime of murder."

He is correct on that point but his opinion on any subject would never tilt the scales for me. I agree he's an educated fool. He is very adept at creating hype to promote himself, I'll give him that and he'll certainly perform well in Donald Trump's sideshow tent. I'll be watching with a big bowl of buttered popcorn.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 120

Thanks for the quotes Auntie. I get exactly what Geraldo is saying because he's talking exactly like an attorney would. He's saying entering a wet body contest doesn't prove murder. That is correct. He's saying the record at trial had established that there were certainly many times that Casey behaved appropriately with her child. That is also correct.

The tough thing about that trial was that it was based on a lot of circumstantial evidence. It had a smell test to it. We all knew it smelled bad. But in a court of law, a bad smell is not enough.

Maybe they over pled it. I don't know. But the prosecution utterly failed at that trial, and now a murderer is going free. There's no second chance here because there's no double jeopardy. Geraldo was right, certain parts of the record were conclusive. I still think they had enough to convict, and I was outraged they didn't. I also heard some jury interviews which led me to believe some of the jury members weren't understanding the standards correctly. But I see what he's saying, and I think he was looking at the situation in a very linear and cool fashion, removing all emotions from the equation.

He just doesn't get that in that moment no one wants to hear that babble. They just want you to put aside the attorney hat and be outraged along with everyone else. They wanted emotions right then, and clearly that's not how he's wired. And that kind of makes me think there is narcissism going on there, because he just doesn't get it.

====

Maybe that's how he relates to them and sees their side of things. I think both Kate and Casey are narcissists who should not have ever become mothers. Children are a burden to them unless they can serve them in some way.

I'd also argue with Geraldo that a child looking lovingly into a mother's eyes doesn't mean she's a good mom. Who knows if a child is promised a lollipop if she smiles nice for the camera?

I remember those videos of Casey playing with Caylee. By all appearances they seemed to be having a good time. I also recall Kate playing on the floor with the kids and they seemed to be having a jolly good time too. But we don't know if they're having all that fun because it's what she always does with them or if they're just elated that she's finally playing with them because the producers told her to play with the kids. Either way, how is a child to know? They're having fun, period. Some should tell Geraldo that playing with your kids isn't the litmus test of good parenting.

Lukebandit (#116), I agree that TFW's "still having a blast" tweet probably meant she was fired. C'mon, not having to work? Being away from her kids? Staying in a luxury hotel with room service? Not having to make nice with a bunch of has-been stars? Possibly getting a per diem for shopping in NYC?

Lalalandnomore (#103) you asked about TFW having no shame. Her supporters immediately jumped on Scott for firing her. So in her mind, she was a victim again. Shame only comes if there's validity to the other person's argument. No shame in dancing like a wounded rhino - Tony didn't know how to teach her. No shame in getting fired from
Coupon Cabin - this silly CEO didn't know moneysaving talent when
he had it. Should be interesting to see how the fans will react to DT
when they watch him fire her in the boardroom. Methinks Gladys, who has praised DT as such an astute judge of talent, will have a few choice words for him. Wonder if we can get him to fire Gladys?

That's exactly right, and that's what the prosecution should say. I hope they did.

It doesn't prove she is a good mom. It is one slice of life, one moment in time, when she was being appropriate. The jury was supposed to take the whole picture when deciding whether she was a good mom, and that includes evidence that wasn't filmed.

I don't know if the videos came into evidence, but I would have been objecting.

I think as others have said this case may have suffered from the CSI effect.

---------
And, don't forget, a coming out! I love that show, and loved the movie that it was based on. I don't love all the characters, so I find some story lines more interesting than others. I think Mae Whitman is an outstanding actress, and will watch anything she is in. Much of the dialogue is improvised, so some times conversations can see eem stilted. And, definitely, some of the actors are much better at that than others.

Both of my daughters have started watching it, and love it too.

What is really funny is that I reminded the young woman to check and verify that I had been a many, many years' subscriber yet that I was abandoning ship due to a factor which I could not accept. She hesitated then I heard a double clicking on the line as I was speaking. I told her that I detested PEOPLE promoting KG and why. She replied,

Re: Parenthood. The Adam Braverman 'on location' house is across the street from ours, so we have watched parts of all seasons filming, occasionally ( they have built a set replica as well, for interior shots). Fascinating process at times, mostly a whole lot of a lot of people doing little or nothing for hours on end. Having a crush on Peter Krause, it has been fun to watch him out my front window. I actually saw them shoot the scene ( from behind) in the finale where Haddie and her girlfriend arrive in the taxi. From the way she put her arm around her, oh so casually, I nailed the relationship. And I was right. The last scene, the passing of the guard family dining table was also shot in the neighbor's back yard. As we are preparing to sell our home of 30 years, it was especially poignant, and lovely, to see the parents pass on the table to the oldest son, so that family dinners will continue. Yes, I know it is tv, and scripted, but I have so enjoyed this show.

Back to TFW: she has had her moments in the sun, and gloom, in NYC. Now she can tweet about the May birthdays and the June TV special, but then what. A long, dull summer, no job, no vacations for the kids and what will then be a whole lot of embarrassing moments on a pretty dead in the water season of CA, sometime in the fall.

She has no idea how boring she is.

Our baskets this year included more small toys, puzzles, coloring books, stamp sets, some new nightgowns, things like that. I'd much rather have them get something they can enjoy for some time rather than sugaring them up on candy, and putting hard-boiled eggs in a basket. You can only have so much egg salad, tuna salad, open faced hard-boiled eggs sandwiches and deviled eggs before you say, "Enough!"

I forgot to add to my comment that when I went shopping for some Easter candy, I checked out the price for a medium size chocolate rabbit...$5.99. Right next to the candy display was a line-up of swimsuit/beach Barbies, also $5.99 on sale. I bought the Barbie. The rabbit would have been gone in no time; the Barbie was a much better purchase!

I don't know if anyone noticed, but Easter candy this year was very expensive compared to years past...at least in this area.

Easter baskets! (1 of 2 pics) #nopicsofCara/Madybyrequest

====

By request or did they finally demand she cut the crap and quit posting their pics? Oh dear. What's she gonna do when the tups tell her enough with the photos, too?

After looking at all those goodies and toys they get in their baskets, I'm beginning to think not only did I have a deprived childhood, but apparently so did my kids. Chocolates, candy and a few colored eggs was all the Easter Bunny left in our baskets. Then again, we actually WERE piecing and patching.

Sigh. I think I'll throw myself a pity party :o(
Just kidding.

Happy Easter everyone.

But then again, aren't they refusing to see him? seems funny to split the kids up on a holiday?

Good for the girls standing up for themselves. If they don't even want a few Easter pics posted why on Earth would they want to go on the Today show? Or maybe that was the last straw for them.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 169

No, it's not. They are not 11; not even 10 quite yet, and girls that age still do like princesses.

&&&

REALLY? Not any 10-11 year old girls I've ever known. Is this a regional thing?

The princess stage is 4-5 around here.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 170

I'm betting there are major union issues with working on a holiday like Easter, so the crew has it off which means the celebs do too. I'm pretty convinced Kate is fired by now though, so what happens? Does she screw around in PA or does she get to be put up in a swag hotel in NYC while she waits for the final challenge to see if she's picked for the staff of the two contenders?

PatK said... 171

Perhaps the twins were not quite all dolled up enough for pics?

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 172

I guess I was wrong about the kids being with Jon today. I hope they get some time with him. And yup, she's fired!

&&&&

Wasn't she pretty quiet about Easter last year, which led us to believe it was Jon's year? If she posted I think it was after the fact or pretty low key, I can't really remember. They have even/odd holidays I believe, like most family law orders.

Even if it were Jon's year, I wouldn't put it past her to post pics from events that occurred on Friday or Saturday and pass it off as today.

If these are the rooms that the staff get I wonder what the celeb's rooms look like.

Milo is still MIA. It surprised me that she didn't jump on TFW's tweets right away.

Two of the girls got Barbies and the other got an insect city thing. I thought the general consensus was Barbies are OK for 10 year old girls...just baby dolls aren't.

Formerly Duped said... 176

My daughter played with Barbies till about 11 years old. Mind you, this was secretly , but most of her friends would join her! It was fine with me since some girls that age were already going out with boys and wearing make-up and 'revealing' clothing.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said... 177

I thought someone said the baskets have a princess theme. Barbie is more age appropriate than baby dolls, but even 10 is pushing the tail end of Barbie. Depends on what Barbie, too. At least you can get Barbies that encourage more than just growing up and having babies, like careers like doctor or girl who runs a hotdog stand at the beach (totally had that forward thinking Barbie as a kid).

I did not look at the pics and don't intend to, out of respect for the kids.

AuntieAnn said... 178

I still have my Barbie, Midge, Ken and Skipper from the sixties tucked away in an ancient Barbie suitcase with a broken latch. I wonder if they're worth anything? I don't play with them anymore since Ken's head fell off. ha!

I love that blog not just because it's so funny. I love it because it's fantastic social commentary on the state of society today. It exposes parents for what they are: ridiculous. No, it's not okay to do this to kids. You are hurting them by spoiling them, not helping them. Great quote:

"The weirdest thing is that no one ever mentions that this candy could be given away to kids who didn’t get anything for Easter (not even a 4-ft. tall gold egg shipped straight from Willy Wonka’s factory!). It’s like these parents would rather just set up all of their kids’ shit in a massive stack of candy wealth, practically creating a Candy Kingdom for the kids to play in, than donate the goods or - god forbid - tell their relatives to keep it because the kids just don’t need it. What’s up with that?"

Indeed, what's up with that?

LaLaLandNoMore said... 180

Sad to hear there are new pics posted of the kids. I will not look at them, either, out of respect. Here we are refusing to view the pics, while their own mother posts the pics to continue exploiting her own children. No shame, I say again, "no shame." I suppose a person would need to have that thing called conscience to feel shame. At the very least, there would be embarrassment with a normal person. I suppose to understand TFW, we would need to be like her.

Happy Easter to all!

I know you've been watching BBC's The Apprentice, & wonder if you have a link for full-length episodes of season 3.

############################

I just found out that the short 10 minute clips I found will automatically roll over to the next 10 minute clip, & so on, until the full one hour show is over.

I saw the pics of the Easter baskets. If anyone noticed, that the girls got large cloth lined baskets and the boys got smaller wire uncloth lined baskets. I know it's kind of nit picking, but. The girls baskets, look fancy, the boys look, like it was thrown together asap.

I wonder if that trip to Toy-r-us, before Kate went to NYC, was what the kids got for Easter, you know you get to pick it out, but can't have till Easter.
I would call this guilt buying. Probably her friend/make-up/whatever, Deanna, made up the baskets, or did the kids make up their own baskets, but could not touch till Easter?
She is a trip!

TLC stinks said... 185

Someone said upthread that just because she posted pictures today doesn't mean they got baskets this morning. I think the nannies put those baskets together. Not Kate's style AT ALL. Kate does not have guilt when she leaves the kids. She gave the nannies the money and they did the baskets.

getofftwitter said... 186

Auntann: depends on what condition your Barbies are in. In new like condition a couple of $100, in a good condition about $30-$50. If you have complete clothes sets, they are worth a lot. Check on e-bay. that's where I check to see how much things are or if they are selling.

I finely finished my Doctor Who scarf. It is 24 ft 4 in long, that does not include the tassels on either end, and those are 7 inch long. With tassels:25 ft 6in long.

Formerly Duped said... 187

Well, I still make up baskets for my early 20 's age kids LOL! The same baskets they grew up with. They still love the Cadbury cream eggs, Peter Rabbit theme chocolates ,Lindt's bunnies, Reece's PB Bunnies...one of those traditions you just can't quit! But it was always just a few things.

When I grew up in Canada I received ONE Laura Secord chocolate-covered cream egg, a real treat we always felt lucky to get ;made it last for days.

Happy Easter.

Kate will blame Jon, and the sheep will blame Jon AND the kids of course, but I for one will be glad to see the kids have THEIR OWN VOICE for once! No mommy or daddy, no 'fan' or 'hater', no Robert. It will come straight from the kids who lived it.
-----------------------------------------------
The newest tweets and posts are simply ridiculous!! TFW will fly by the seat of her pants, as long as possible. And include her kids every step of the way, and as much as possible.

All About Kate!

TLC, how are the baskets not Kate's style? She usually gives the buys Lego, and the girls whatever they are into, plus candy. The only thing missing is her Bunny Munny store and egg hunt as far as I can tell...but you well could be right.

&&&&&&&&&&&

I guess so. We're really backward here...haven't yet caught up to the rest of the world. We've given up the prairie dresses, though and retired our rotary dial phones! ;)

I was shopping at Penney yesterday -- they just re-did their Disney section and there were a few families there with girls about the age of the Gosselins, picking out Disney princess flip-flops, some hair accessory sets and looking for Frozen nighties (not easy to find right now)!

admin asked (Easter becoming commecialized): "Indeed, what's up with that?"

&&&&&&&&&&&&

I guess I better go sit in a corner for a long-time out, since I'm contributing to a society buried in commercialism, but I'd rather give kids an Easter basket with some educational puzzles, workbooks, small toys such as bubble sets for the bath or a new box of crayons (nothing expensive) than load them up with peanut butter cups and marshmallow peeps.

Serendipity said... 194

Why did she have to post a picture of the kids with their baskets? WHY? This is an addiction with her; an obsession and she just can't help it. The Twitter world did not have to see what the kids got for Easter. Is this just a big FU to Jon...showing him that she will do whatever she wants to do, and if that includes plastering the kids pictures on Easter on the internet, that's exactly what she will do. There is no reason for it. Just one time I'd like to see her respect their privacy and just shut the heck up.

She has to be so lacking in self-esteem that by doing this she is able to validate to herself and to her fans what a good mother she is. I've never seen anything like it. It really is a sad situation for everyone involved.

I don't think the younger twin is tired of it. But I still think neither of them were "photo-ready" when she was taking the pics, so they opted out.

Can someone explain to me what those blue clipboards are that are hanging on the back of each chair that the children sit on? You can see them is a couple of the pictures TFW posted. Is it a list of stuff the kids have to do? Where they are allowed to sit? Anyone able to do a better screen shot to see what's listed on them (one you can see a bit of the front of it).

Ex- Nurse: Yes, I agree about the acting in parenthood, and I do like Mae as well. Can you believe she was the toddler daughter in When a Man Loves a Woman with Meg Ryan & Andy Garcia? She was good even then. So she's a child actress who seems to have reached adulthood successfully! (as far as I know)
----
She was also the little girl in Hope Floats. I also watched Arrested Develop, emt, and didn't recognize her in the part of Michael Cera's plain jane girlfriend, Anne ( or bland, as she was called). Hard to believe It is the same actress playing Amber, who just drips with personality.

Flimsy Flamsy--yes, I am having lots of time with grandson. He will be two months old tomorrow, and is an angel. In May, I will have him all day, once a week.

Berks Neighbor...maybe the clipboards on their chairs are instructions as to which order they are to remove things from the basket and which order they are to eat their treats.

I don't think you are ever too old for an Easter basket. I still make up baskets for my 2 daughters who are in their twenties and there boyfriends. Not to mention my husband always looks forward to his every year. I fill them with things for grooming like shampoo and body wash, socks, etc and their favorite candy. They love it because it is like getting stocking stuffers for Easter.
