It seems we weren't the only ones horrified by Kate's treatment of Mady in the promo clip from TLC (warning, the video prominently features the children), which showed a two minute segment from the update special that will air at the end of June. The glee across her face when she described buying iPhones for the children for the purpose of taking them away was disturbing. The disrespectful manner in which Kate handled a relatively small disruption from the 13-year-old resonated negatively with bloggers around the web, and here are some of their thoughts:
"Well, Mady is still defying her mom and in this clip from their 2-hour torture piece of a special, Sergeant Asshole McPlasticFace tells her child army that she (read: the producers) have all sorts of “fun things” planned for Spring Break. Nobody makes“fun things” sound like the opposite of fun the way Kate Gosselin does." Michael K., Dlisted
"Last we saw Reading’s own Kate Gosselin, she appeared alongside her daughters for a stoically angry Today show interview that promoted their upcoming return to TLC with Kate Plus 8: Sextuplets Turn 10. Now, we’ve gotten a first look at the show, and it is similarly stoic and angry. Who would’ve thought?" Nick Vadala, Philly.com
"What TLC does not realize is they are showing Mady to be the normal one in the bunch; refusing to play along and act like everything is fine. Mady says; “we are not going to have fun." You can tell it is taking everything Kate has to not lose it. Good job, Mady. Let the world know how dysfunctional things really are." Miss Amia, Reality T.V. scandals
And finally a blogger at Kate's former employer, The Stir, called the stunt a "twisted trick":
"Kids test their parents' limits, and we need to set up boundaries and stick to them. It's GOOD to see Kate disciplining her kids without resorting to violence ('memba the wooden spoon incident?). That said, it seems a little odd to specifically buy something nice for your child with the intention of using it to punish them. For lack of a better word, it seems ... untrustworthy? It sounds like a Trojan Horse of parenting ... here kid, here's a gift, now I can use it to destroy you. Now, to be clear, that doesn't mean you shouldn't put limits on the use of gadgets because they are, after all, a privilege. But we are supposed to buy presents for our kids out of the goodness of our hearts, not with an ulterior motive! That's part of showing love and respect for our kids. And we all know respect is a two-way street." Jeanne Sager, The Stir
Great insight from all the above bloggers and that's only some of it.

I really don't think she bought the ipads just so she could take them away. That was just something "cute" to say. She thought it would make her sound smart. Like she's in on the most current parenting techniques.
But once again, she heard something someplace (find their currency) so she uses the words, trying to fit in, but lacks understanding and so misses the mark. Widely.
She sure is stupid.
Where's the Beef??!
From Celebrity Dirty Laundry:
According to Radar Online Hoffman is intending to re-release Kate Gosselin: ‘How She Fooled The World, The Rise and Fall of a Reality TV Queen’ just four days after TLC airs a two part special that catches up with Kate and her kids. In the promo that was released for the show Kate is obviously still the same miserable, resentful disciplinarian that we remember her to be but her bitterness seems to be a bit worse. The timing of Hoffman’s book’s release couldn’t possibly be any better, for him. The promo clip of Kate’s special had the internet buzzing about her and I can only imagine the reaction after two hours inside Kate’s current life. As it is Kate was probably hoping that this special would drum up enough interest for TLC to decide to bring the family back to its prime time lineup. Her own hostility on camera combined with a tell-all that accuses her of abuse among other things will only get her crucified in the court of public opinion- again.

Yes, what was that nonsense with Kate in the clip acting like Mady was stomping so hard she was shaking? Mady did not stomp. just walked deliberately and angrily to her place. Kate just had to add fuel to the fire, upsetting all the kids.

Yes, Kate's become quite affected on camera.
She's been to more than one rodeo, and she knows what will make the highlight reel.
Gosselin PukeFest, anyone?
It is ridiculous to pick Kate apart for taking away privileges because of course this has been a mode of punishment for time immemorial.
The point is that it is humiliating, beyond most people's comprehension, to do so publicly.
For rating, fame and money.
Just watch the flourish with which Kate puts on throwing Mady's phone to the table.
So, so, so affected.

When Fraiser walked outside, Daphne told Kenny that Martin had a cute little jingle and begged him to tell Kenny.

I wonder if the kids will spring for mom's cable at the Nursing home they chose for her, Katherine, the private chef and Steve for some of her me time. She then won't be able to pull that stunt, A week at home and a week away at the Nursing Home works the best for my family! They will probably just dump her off with a complete set of the DVD's of their making memories that they made together and say, Adios!

Sigh. All....about.....her.
I meant that she was wearing the wig and nose and saying wait until my kids see me. Earlier she said I can be the clown and they said or yelled NO!!
OT about the Duggars.
Jill and Derek are now engaged and JimBob and Michelle are acting more stupid than ever. There is hope for Jill because her future MIL is very warm, thinks highly of Jill and wore pants to the Duggar compound for the engagement announcement! What a REBEL! She is classy, smart and down to earth. Compared to Michelle. There is no comparison.
When they were gathering together after the announcement, Deriks mom was so happy for Derik and Jill. She told Michelle that she raised her son with the same manual instruction book that Michelle used. M was thinking, Oh, Gothard? No, silly. The Bible!
Derik's mom also said that she was going to spoil Jill. Michelle just stared at her like WHAT? She looked like she was thinking, uh, Why? She is suppose to start having babies and be a servant. JB and M think it is useless to go to college because no one ever uses their degree. Derik actually did go to college and was the schools mascot for 2 years. He even took her to a college basketball game. As soon as Derik and Jill walked up before or a second after they even said they were engaged, JB said, looks like we are going to be having grandbabies pretty soon and grandparents again.
Tater tots to paper plates when Jill and Derik and all the gang announce their first baby, right before they sign off the spot on the Today show, Michelle will pipe up and say, Hey, everybody, Me and Dad have an announcement to make, We are expecting blessing number 21! She can't stand it! Not being pregnant and out of the spot light. I feel so bad for Jana, David, they are 25 almost and haven't even courted yet.
Come and listen to a story about a man named Jed
A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed,
Then one day he was shootin at some food,
And up through the ground came a bubblin crude.
Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea.
Well the first thing you know ol Jed's a millionaire,
Kinfolk said "Jed move away from there"
Said "Californy is the place you ought to be"
So they loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly.
Hills, that is. Swimmin pools, movie stars.
After all these years, it is easy to read Kate's motivations. The tweet about her and Mady snuggled up watching a movie is PURE DAMAGE CONTROL. Is it true? Highly DOUBTFUL. She is a liar.

do you have a link to share?
So, is this a preview of the kids' 10th bday party, or the one when they were 3 or 4?
Because if it's for their 10th, wow.
We said all along that a carnival theme would be fine IF it were sort of the older children carnival games like the water gun ones or climb the mountain or hit the platform with a sledge hammer as hard as you can.
But clowns, come on. Let them GROW UP. I feel sorry for them. How embarrassing.
If Jon wants alimony, he does not need to blackmail Kate.
"There is no entitlement to alimony in Pennsylvania. Instead, it is purely discretionary with the court, and based on 17 distinct factors listed in Section 3701 of the PA Divorce Code. So a spouse who seeks alimony must specifically ask for it in court, or negotiate it with their spouse through the mediation process, which is always recommended first, if possible."
What Kate's "source" reported to ROL makes no sense. Jon has no power over Robert not to publish. If Kate does not want the book published, all she has to do is pay all his attorney bills and that could possibly end it. Jon has no money and that seems to me the only possible influence on Robert. Then again, maybe Kate has tried to buy Robert off and he refused.
If Jon wants alimony all he has to do is go back to court, not bribe Kate. He's probably win too.
Clowns for 10 year olds? Please, tell me that's a reference from their old show when the Gosselin tups were 3?
Do we know what was done at the Carnival Birthday party? You're saying there were clowns?!
I don't have a link, just turned the tv on it was on. It was for their current birthday. They showed part of the clip everyone was has seen, showed them running around the basement, in some store with TFW making annoying faces and her telling the kids she would be their clown and then her walking up somewhere wearing the wig and nose. There were a couple women by her, don't know where they found friends unless they were random people looking at her..
I assume there will be plenty of flashback clips in this special. For the viewers who haven't kept up with some of TFW's, ahem, changes, the
contrast will be quite stark. I wonder if she cringes when she sees her
former self. Since she's gone to such extreme measures to change her appearance, I imagine it's an unpleasant experience.
I remember an "All In The Family" episode when Archie and Mike are
debating about religion. Archie says Mike is still Catholic, because he
was baptized. Mike says, "I renounced my baptism years ago."
And Archie replies, "Go ahead and 'renounce' your belly button -
you still got it!" TFW can work on altering her appearance 365 days
a year. But there is evidence on film of the woman she used to be, and what that woman looked like. All the lies, spin, and excuses in TFW's arsenal can't make her disappear. And, oh yeah, that woman was married to Jon Gosselin, who fathered their 8 kids. Can't "spin"
him out of her history either.
My only problem with her taking away the iphone is that the punishment really didn't fit the "crime". She's inconsistent. On the Katie Couric show she let Mady tell her "be quiet I'm talking". In this clip she could have just said "Mady please, no interrupting" or something. I mean the day will come when M says f-you. I really have no doubt about that. Save the big guns for that. I do think she was making a joke about giving them stuff to take them away but she's such a bitch people take her literally.

Not joking really, just trying to be "cute" or smartass. Funny that she didn't look off-camera to Steve to see if he approved of her wittiness.
I really do think that Robert isn't doing this for money particularly.
It's more about TFW tormenting and torturing the children.
It is ridiculous to pick Kate apart for taking away privileges because of course this has been a mode of punishment for time immemorial.

Major insult time with Kate. Kate has been bragging and rubbing it in, on how she can relax, relax, relax, while the rest of the world is working. Must be very nice to do next to nothing all day, and live off the kids money, then, try to say , that she is just like every mom out there. Sure you are Kate, most moms are working jobs, some working 2-3 jobs to put food on table, pay rent, mortgage, ultilities, credit cards etc, they have very little time to themselves, much less than any time to relax. Yeah, Kate you are just like these working moms: NOT! Ipods & Iphones for all the kids, most families, can afford probably one or 2, how many do you have Kate 8? Kate tries to justify by bitching/crying/complaining/whining, on how tirerer, run down, etc, she is, sure you are, when you do nothing all day , and have hired help for 4 hours every day, 5 days a week and a landscaper(Kate would never want to get her hands dirty, she is a germafobic). I think she has more than that part time hired help. JMO

My point being -- most real life friends do not intrude on each other's lives in this way. You might text something like "what's up? we should get together for drinks next week!" Or maybe it's just me -- but I have never really given a lot of thought as to what my friends might be doing every second of the day. I don't wonder what they are making for dinner, or if they are having dinner out on the patio or by the pool. I don't tell them they are smoking hot in shorts or a bikini. I don't constantly tell them how lucky their kids are to have them as a mother. I don't ask them to send me current pictures of their kids or grandkids. Milo is just so strange.

"Oh how we love r summer relax X already"
*********
When summer rolls around, my son usually has one or two weeks off before his summer college prep classes begin. What this means to me, as a working mom is:
1. I do get to sleep in a little bit longer, since I don't have to take him to school before I go to work.
2. He isn't driving yet, so most days I've had to pick him up during my lunch hour (either at home and take him to a friend's house, or from a friend's house following a sleep over). The problem is that lunch time is when I usually runs at least a couple of errands, such as going to the bank, getting gas, grocery shopping, etc.
3. So, I have to run errands when I get off from work instead, in warmer weather, which tires me out.
4. Yet, I still need to fix dinner when I get home, plus pick up after my son who has been around the house much of the day, making a mess.
5. Did I mention it's hot? Well, hot enough for me anyway, which makes me sweat, feel lethargic, and often cranky. I don't have a swimming pool in my backyard, but if I did, I'd be the one maintaining it most of the time anyway, because I can't afford a pool maintenance service either.
So while I'm happy my son is off from school during some of the summer months, it actually seems to increase my work load in some ways. Kate's stupid tweets about having such a relaxing time now that it's summer are baloney. I want to know why those kids aren't busy with summer camp, hanging out with friends, and other fun summer activities. She ought to be even busier in the summer, chauffering her kids around.
Here is a jingle.
My beer is __________, the dry beer
Think of ___________ when you buy beer
It's not bitter, not sweet
It's the extra dry treat
Why don't you try extra dry ___________ beer!
This was before my time!

====
Luke - I think Leah (or maybe it was Alexis, I don't know who is which) meant that Kate wouldn't allow Ashley dinner, because her mother uses that threat on the kids. Kids think that way.
But Ashley, stupid Ashley the babysitter deserved punishment anyway because she didn't know anything about the kid's mom's bodyguard's culinary picadillos. What was she even getting paid for? (ha! Love that Anderson Cooper)
I would of waited till she turned her head and got up and walked over and knocked her off into the water.
*************
Now wouldn't that have been hysterical!!! Too bad the producers didn't think of putting her up to it!
But the forthcoming bitch-fit probably would have traumatized the kids. Think Stevie would have drawn down on her?
Would he have immediately dived into the water, fully clothed, to rescue his woman?
God, it would have been so funny to see her come sputtering up!
I think we have an idea for a new show. Put TFW into situations where somewhere along the line someone is going to throw a pie at her, spray her with shaving cream, push her off the dock. But she'll never know which person is going to do it, or when. The more startled she is the bigger the prize they win.
Or the more of a tantrum she throws the bigger the prize. A contest to see who can bait her the most. Who sets her off the most. And if she takes it out on the kids it gets worse.
Ok, I'll play...Although this theme song actually didn't have lyrics until 1977. Name the show and who wrote the lyrics.
"We're goin' hoppin', we're goin' hoppin' today
Where things are poppin' the Philadelphia way
We're gonna drop in on all the music they play"
And here's another one:
"Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet"
And one more:
"People let me tell you 'bout my best friend,
He's a warm hearted person who'll love me till the end.
People let me tell you bout my best friend,"
Over In TFW's County - I'm laughing visualizing a moldy and rotten Sally Starr doll! That must have been quite a sight!!
Lynne in RI - That's very cool about your dad's Navy buddy writing "Seattle". I do love that song. I remember reading that Perry Como had recorded a version of it. I was totally in love with Bobby Sherman (Jeremy) back then!
May - I had forgotten all about Chief Halftown! Shame on me!!
Bitchy Pants - I used to watch Perfect Strangers all the time. I don't know why I can't remember that theme song! And those Alka Seltzer commercials were the best. For old times sake:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLQYKCJ9zQ8
Tucker's Mom - How fun your brother got to visit the Cartoon Corners General Store! Ha! Did he get to see the Magic Fleece or meet Debbie Dibley?! The dreaded Quigley Mansion was creepy (especially when the thunder and lightning would happen every time its name was mentioned), but I loved it! Remember how they had to go through the door in the Grandfather clock to get to the secret passageway? Oh my gosh. I just remembered the song GL used to sing. I can't believe I remember all the lyrics after all these years!
"Let's pretend that it's story time and I'll tell a tale to you. I'll tell you a story of make-believe and all your dreams will come true. And when the story's over and when we reach the end, we'll live happily ever after - Where? - In the land of let's pretend."
TM, was it Dr. Shock you are thinking of who used to dress up like Dracula?
And you are so right about those local TV personalities. They were so good at helping kids use their imagination. I think that is sorely missing these days.

Splashing, shooting with a super soaker or water gun -- hilarious. Shoving a non-swimmer into the water, not funny. Sorry if I seem preachy, but water safety was drummed into me from the time I was a little girl.

Oh dear god, it is going to be a long, hot summer judging from day 1 from the resident fruitcake. Picnic supper by the pool. Oh sure, that is TFW's style. Actually the image of her flinging a hot dog on a paper plate is pretty funny. X8.

None of those kids were kidding, either, which tells you that Kate has made them skip meals to punish them before.
I've never heard of a mother doing this.
====
It's an old school, outmoded measure of punishment and it's a despicable thing to do to a child. Deny them a treat, sure. Denying them a meal is absolutely wrong. Just because she starves herself into skeletal oddity, does she think their growing bodies don't need proper nourishment, too? Using food to control their behavior is sick. WTF is wrong with her.

Saw just a couple of minutes of KUWTK the other night. They were on a family vacation and Kris H. was there. They all got on a boat to go out to another island to go and eat dinner. Little Mason was about 2, 2 and a half and they all got on the boat and Scott had him and was holding him with no life jacket. He put him on his lap and pulled over his sport coat to cover him up with. That boat was flying and bumping.
What was he going to do use Mason as a life jacket? Reminded me of all the G kids on that boat 25 miles out with no life jackets. And the witch got away with it. The captain got away with it.

Exactly. She can stop pretending she's happy to have them home. They're disrupting her 'other' relaxed schedule. We've seen how much she likes being around her kids.

Anyone com the New York metropolitan area remember Sandy Becker or Crusader Rabbit and his buddy Ragland T. Tiger?
Call Me Crazy -- Right on the money. I couldn't remember the name of the show, so I looked it up on IMDB. It was called "Rocketship 7" and aired in the Buffalo, NY area from 1962 - 1978. So -- not in Philly.
It figures Jamie & Deanna. Deanna to do her face & hair, and anything else, a total stoogie, and her bffff friend Jamie, who will bring her kids with, so that's 3 and the other 6 have one friend a piece or was it 3 friends for the girls and 2 boy friends for the boys. So figure about 9 friends + tups and twins, who will be helping too. Kate had on the right outfit, a clown, cause she is one. JMO

Kate is a Twit - I gave up and cheated. This is what I found:
The theme to Sesame Street was composed by Joe Raposo. He wrote the lyrics along with Jon Stone and Bruce Hart.
Harry Nilsson wrote and performed the theme for The Courtship of Eddie's Father.
Bandstand Boogie was an instrumental written by Charles Albertine and originally recorded in 1954 by Les Elgart. They started using it for American Bandstand in 1956. In 1977, Barry Manilow wrote lyrics to the song, and his version then became the show's popular and enduring theme.

Tucker's Mom said... 12
So, so agree Tucker's mom. I think one of the reasons I can't stand this witch so much is that she does absolutely nothing out of the ordinary to get her face on TV. But she believes she should be there just like the real stars who actually put the hard work in. Put anyone on a couch, have a camera in their face and get them to talk about themselves and what goes on in their day to day lives. Do this for 10 years. No wonder she is so egocentric and a fat head. But it was her arrogant, abrasive personality that turned people off. Her sense of entitlement and bitchiness. It could have been any other person sitting on that couch and I would not have felt this way. Her swollen head personality turned me off.
She had the glory days in the beginning when there were so many fans, myself included, liking the dynamics between her and Jon. It was very heady for them in those days. I really can't stand the photos and clips of her way back when she believed herself to be a much sought after star. She did NOTHING, NOTHING to garner that kind of adulation but it made her head swell to epic proportions. Yes, she is so affected now. Have we ever heard her on TV talk about anything but herself and her kids? Nope. She has never given any opinion about any world event or catastrophe. She has never shown any other side to her other than me, me, me. That is all she has to offer. How completely banal when you think about it.
And one more thing. Why does she miss sitting in Miss Ruthie's make up chair so much?. Were they drinking wine together? She sure identifies with these make up artists. Guess they don't intimidate her like the real Hollywood stars do. Fat head.

Yep. We always ask, "How is the water?" meaning is it still cold, is the heater doing its job..."
Ours right now is a little on the cool side. Electric heaters take awhile to warm water, and we didn't open ours at the beginning of May! But, unlike Kate, we have an electric cover, which keeps the heat from escaping at night, and helps maintain the warmth when not in use. Best thing ever (when the motor doesn't die on you!).

I do believe that childhood development experts say that parents should never use food as a reward, or withhold food as a punishment, because that can lead to eating disorders. I find it simply wrong. I'm talking in terms of nutrition, so that I would never send my child to bed hungry as punishment (especially for what seems like a minor infraction - not getting off the computer instantly upon command).
I guess I could see withholding dessert as a punishment, but I never have done that either. I really didn't want to involve food as either reward or punishment.
But TFW is all about punishment and finding every infraction she can so that she can then think of yet another way to make her kids' lives miserable. Controlling to the nth degree and heartless to boot.

I didn't know that she couldn't swim. You would think she could. Romping in the ocean in Mexico, Outer Banks, the beaches, her water pool then salt pool. Well, Ashley could of waited till they got back to the dock where it was about 2 or 3 feet and then shoved her in for threatening food and her job. Just for a good soaking. She would still act like the end of time had come.
My dil does the food depravation thing, even when the granddaughter was a baby. The kid was offered the breast, not dil's fault the kid only drank a small amount. Nothing more for another 4 hours!
After failure to thrive became an issue, and the kid cried all the time (from hunger), they finally take her to the dr. and it turns she had something wrong in her throat and *couldn't* eat more than a few ounces of anything at a time.
Even as a toddler food was denied her for perceived infractions. One time we were at a restaurant and the kid was denied her meal because she had been restless waiting for it to come.
I stuffed all my mashed potatoes into my pockets, and volunteered to take the kid for a walk. As soon as we were out of sight I started stuffing the potatoes into her little mouth as fast as she could swallow.
Once she got so she could talk I had to stop that because the kid would tell the mom that I'd fed her out on the sidewalk....kids being kids, they just say whatever and don't have a filter.
Anyone from the Texas area rememeber Don Mahoney & Jeana Claire and Their Kiddie Troupers?
But TFW is all about punishment and finding every infraction she can so that she can then think of yet another way to make her kids' lives miserable.
*****************
Precisely. Dil is exactly the same way. She gets her jollies from being mean. If there's a way to ruin anything fun she will find it. She's on high alert at all times, at defcon 5, lest she miss an opportunity to punish. Nothing goes unaddressed.
As someone earlier said, no one can put the fu in fun the way TFW can.

I'm certain that part was from the update. As far as I recall, Deanna never appeared on Kate plus 8.
On another note, I noticed they had to include a clip of Mady having a meltdown when she was younger.
What are they going to do--show old clips and then have new parts re-enacting them(the carnival party, Mady's meltdown) just to show that nothing has changed?

I can see withholding a treat, like a promised trip to Dairy Queen, because a kid slugged his sister over the head with a Tonka Truck, but not to keep them from eating a whole meal. That would have absolutely nothing to do with their wrong behavior. Nothing.
Kate started this treat reward thing a long time ago with the potty training and M&Ms. I'm sure it didn't stop there. Maybe it even started before potty training. If she's still using food to control them, those kids are going to have some serious eating disorders.
Very stupid of her not to learn how to swim, now, as an adult. You have 8 countem EIGHT kids in a pool? Stupid and lazy. I learned as an adult, it can be done.
Is it true that kate had a clown party for the tups and it is going to be on this special? If kate is dressed like a clown for the party, it will remind me of Anna Nicole Smith in that clown make up. So awful, horrible and creepy and wrong.
When we watch the special we will see how tight the budget was for producing it.

What if one of the kids was in the pool and they were having a major problem and she panicked, jumped in and hung on to the side and she couldn't get to him because she couldn't swim. I pray that never happens to none of the kids.

Breathe, isabel. Just try to breathe.
Good lord. Why doesn't anyone clue these sheeple in? I think the ASPCA should be notified. This is just cruel.
&&&&
This is really getting comical at this point. How could so many of them be this confused?
I mean I admit we got a bit confused when they called it a "premiere", but we figured it out after about 30 seconds when we realized they had just split it into two parts. No where did they ever say this was a SERIES. Ever. Two parts, not SERIES. Why do they keep assuming this? And I love that Kate won't correct them lol that's just so typical of shmoopy.

You know what? We probably would all get along really well based on our childhood TV viewing. We would have a lot to talk about. Who remembers Million Dollar Movie? And those of you in the NY area get in the way back machine and see if you remember The Merry Mailman.
---------
The Merry Mailman-Ray Heatherton!! I remember him. I also watched the Million Dollar Movie. I loved when they showed Fred Astaire/Ginger Rodgers movies or Shirley Temple movies.
I remember how surprised I was years later to find out the MDM theme song was actually Tara's Theme from Gone With the Wind.
So Kate can't swim? For sure?
I know she's deflected and says she's not "waterish", but I never thought that she actually can't swim.
If she can't swim, it's sad on many levels, not to mention, dangerous.
And I love that Kate won't correct them lol that's just so typical of shmoopy.

Kate knows she doesn't have to correct, she's got Milo for that. She should actually pay Milo for all the PR work she does. Hmm, maybe she does.

So while I'm happy my son is off from school during some of the summer months, it actually seems to increase my work load in some ways
&&&
Yep, exactly.
She's clueless, just clueless.
The problem is when you've always had a nanny to quietly fix all your problems with the children you start to get really out of touch with what the children need and what challenges you would be under but for the hired help. I wonder if she talks like that to women in real life. They must hate her.
I guess if Kate can come back to reality TV, anyone can. I just read a story that Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are going to be on the next episode of Celebrity Wife Swap. They're swapping with Amanda Beard(Olympic swimmer) and her husband.

It's an old school, outmoded measure of punishment and it's a despicable thing to do to a child.
&&&
Punishment should make a child think about what they've done, not on how much they are suffering because they are hungry, in pain, etc.
There were a couple of tweets from random people (not in the regular K-twitter brigade, as far as I know) about seeing K on Bethenny today. Does anyone know what that's about or if it's true?
It may have been a clips show. I got that idea before by looking a Bethenny's website, but now don't see anything about that.
TFMJG said on one of the early shows that she doesn't know how to swim and is afraid of the water. If she'd taken swim lessons somewhere recently, I think she'd have crowed about it on Twitter, but she may have learned. I doubt it though. She'd have to actually get wet and she might get some water on her hair.
Virginia -- Love Sidney!! Right! At least I had the name correct.
Anyone remember Sky King? My Friend Flicka?
Lukebandit -- I loved China Beach. I'm so disappointed in the DVD set. I'd looked forward to finally getting it on DVD. I borrowed the first season from the library to see if it was worth it. The sound quality is terrible on some of the episodes, and the background music is so loud it drowns out the dialog, but they didn't close caption it or include subtitles. There's not much point in trying to watch a show if you're missing half the dialog. Did you watch Tour of Duty, which aired around the same time as China Beach? I liked that show a lot, too.
She doesn't swim.
%%%%%%
I believe that this is true. She may have some rudimentary skills but she avoids going in the water like the plague.
I hate give TLC credit for anything, but swimming lessons for those children was a good thing.
Kate is a twit (141)
I guess we now know how much the celebs get paid for being on CWS! I wondered how much. Anyone believe for even a second the the kids got their 15% for it? No? Me neither.
Perhaps if Kate could give up Full House reruns for an evening, and watch the Brian Williams special report on the 70th anniversary of the D-day invasion with her children, well, that would be a teachable moment. Who am I kidding?
Fleecing (125)
My cat loves the show Too Cute. She always parks herself right in front of the TV and watches, and even looks behind the screen like she expects the puppies and kittens to be there. She has no interest in any other show, even ones with similar animals.
I have no doubt that she just lets them think there will be a new show so when she next tele-conferences with TLC she can say look at all these sheeple who want a show see see! Like this is at all representative of the general population lol.

Most of these tweeters are drive-bys who never tweeted before, and are gone in the blink of an eye, never to be heard from again. But, hey, if it boosts her ego, I guess right now every little bit helps to sustain her.
About having the kids home for the summer. I call total baloney on this. As much as I love my children, being home for the summer means additional work, finding care for them, swim lessons, planning activities to make sure they aren't bored, packing for vacation, getting there, unpacking, laundry...it's endless. I can't imagine that she's giddy with delight and throbbing with excitement because they will be under foot all summer long. She's used to being alone all day, every day, and now she's going to have to run an all-day diner (if she feeds them), extra laundry (swim suits, we towels), etc. That is, IF she doesn't call in the domestic troops to help her.
All of this #summerfunrelaxingbythe pool is damage control...how much she loves her children, good Mommy, and whatever. I bet underneath she's cursing already at having them home to annoy her.

Kate is a twit (91), fond memories here. I watched Winky Dink at my grandma's house while my mother worked. This swimming thing. It is not a good thing if you are the parent of 8 children, no wait, any children, AND buy a property with a pool, AND you cannot swim. This is seriously a bad thing.

She doesn't swim? How do I not remember this??
What the hell? Please do not buy a house with a pool if you can't swim. Much less what if the kids fall in, what if SHE fell in and her kids jumped in after her? One or more people could DIE. While you're not supposed to jump in after drowning people you're supposed to throw them a ring or hold a pole to them, someone who is panicking might not do that and not knowing how to swim just makes the problem worse.
Unbelievable. Shocking.

Howdy, have not posted in a while. Back in hospital, more surgery, unrelated to the other 4.
I am back in the long term acute, I also work here.
Went home 2 weeks ago after after 4 weeks.
Was doing great. One night I had a severe heartburn. Took some tums and Pherergan. Then I started vomiting profusely.
Called HH nurse and he sent me to ER. I cried,I did not want to go.
They did a CT and took me to surgery immediately. I had a tear in my small intestines. Surg went well, MD said he may have to go back in and take out more bowel, he may have to give me a colostomy. ugh
I still read here every day, up to date on everything TFW.
Just watched to CWS again. Something I missed watching it before, when she was serving pancakes, the kids sitting at table. I think it was Joel's turn, he walks up, puts his plate up to her and she is standing there, picks up 3 small pancakes with her bare hands and throws them on the plate.
OMG cant handle this woman for much longer, hope R's book or this special will do her in. My heart hurts for the kids.
In my limited experience it is very hard to teach an adult to swim. The biggest problem is they can't get over the embarrassment of not knowing which holds them back from learning.
We had a pool growing up and my cousin didn't swim. He was deathly afraid of water and always refused to go to lessons and his parents didn't make him. Finally at 16 he said I want to learn. You could tell the lessons were painfully embarrassing for him even though they were private. My dad tried week after week to teach him. My cousin tried hard. Never really took. I don't think he'd drown if he fell in now, but he has no business being anywhere but the shallow end and certainly shouldn't even try a lake or an ocean, too dangerous for such poor skills.
Math Girl 143: Kate was on Bethany today, but it was a clip show of various past guests. I love how Bethany asked her hard questions and Kate seemed a little stunned. She said SHE alone put money in the kids college fund as education is very important. Jon was on a show prior to that and said HE put 80% in the college funds.
NJGal51...131
Ok, let's bury the hatchet! lol I'm sorry. But, it makes me soooo mad that she doesn't work a regular job, brags about her relaxing around the pool all summer, she doesn't have to run her kids back and forth, or put them in summer camp for at least 2 weeks. But she continues to exploit them for money on tv.
Treats the kids like dirt, works them like adult farm hands. I am sorry a lot of my post sometimes don't make sense. But, I try. I am just a little hard on her about the pool. Relaxing by the pool all summer, while the real moms do it and do it well. Single moms who work 2 or 3 jobs just to scrape by and she lives the Life of Riley.
Someone posted on a rag today that kate had 9 people to take care of and that was hand washing 9 plates, 9 sets of silverware, laundry for 9. She actually thinks she does it. She felt sorry for her. Well, I told her that she has not one dishwasher, she has 2 and the kids are old enough to clear their own plates, clean their plates, rinse them off and load them in the dishwasher. But they can't because they work so much and she provides paper everything to eat and drink out of. Poor landfill.
Kate can't swim?????
I thought she swam eith dolphins and she swam with sharks?...Actually that doesn't take skill so never mind.
Kk doesn't need to know how to swim.
I'm sure the hired help knows how to swim or one of the twins eould save one of the six. Hell maybe even Steve you be the saviour.
KK would take all the credit though.
No excuses for her if she doesn't swim. And while I agree that it must be difficult to learn as an adult, she could have easily had lessons during all that free time while her children are at school in late spring or late summer, and given enough money, which she seems to have for faux hair, nails and tanning, she probably could have 'bought' the instructor's media silence. No damn excuse to have a pool and not be able to swim. Wonder if the parents whose child might occasionally be invited to swim at the Kompound have a clue that the adult in charge just might not be water safe.
I think we're assuming she reads tweets. I highly doubt that. And to bother to correct people? Too much like work.
PJ
Chefsummer: Kate did swim with the sharks, it's on youtube. Kate knows how to swim, she is just lazy. She is trying to be a Hollywood starlet or what the groupies do, they sit by the pool, they never go in. They have on expensive bathingsuites, water would ruin them and their tans. It's for show.
grandee4 - I'm so sorry you are back in the hospital and needing more surgery. Please check in here as much as you are able to let us know how you are recovering.
Auntie Ann - I just love when you and Admin call TFW "Shmoopy". It makes me laugh whenever I read that name.
lukebandit - Hadji is Johnny Quest's friend.
Bitchy Pants - I loved My Friend Flicka and Fury and Flipper. (Why did all these animal names start with an "F"?)
Everyone - Thanks for the wonderful trip down TV memory lane. It has been great fun remembering back to those times. How sad that the G kids, when thinking back on their childhood television viewing, will have so many memories of just watching themselves over and over and over again. Maybe TFW even made them learn that stupid theme song TLC wrote for the show (Robert included it in the first book release) but didn't use.

And yes Kate is super lazy.

They probably stay put and wait on that bench until next week's practice. Can't you just see them sitting there all alone, rain comes down, Timmy and Mommy get soaked, night falls, the sun rises and they're still there innocently waiting.

Did she actually swim or just bob around with them? I don't remember seeing her doing any "real" swimming, not in the ocean or in a pool.
I too saw the ad (or whatever) during Say YEs to the Dress. Not only does one of the girls emphatically say no to Kate being the clown at the party, but Kate is then seen walking through the parking lot with a hot pink clown wig and nose, saying, 'I can't wait for my kids to see me.' All while looking straight at the camera in her boobalicious and unflattering strapless dress. Yes, Jamie and the makeup artist are there. I rewound and watched frame by frame and she is so smug. As usual. Why would you intentionally do something the kids don't want for THEIR party, for the TV watching public to see? It's all about her.
Layla said... 124
A clown wig and carnival party just like when the tups turned 3. Mady having a meltdown just like when she was 6. I get the sneaking suspicion that TLC and TFW are trying to convince us that it's still 2007. Sorry, we're not that stupid.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
I still don't get this. A carnival? For 10 year olds? I have a hard time believing this was their choice. I tend to believe that this is Kate's doing, trying to party like it's 2007 like you said.
She is never going to move forward until she stops living in the past.
It's pathetic really how they're too dumb to think on their own but this is the mentality of her fan base. They're a breed of their own. Shmoopy sheep.

lol!! Hopefully Mother remembered the ponchos!
But, AuntieAnn -- what do they do if the piano lesson is changed from 4 p.m. to 3 p.m.?
I'm beginning to think that they all come out of the same diluted gene pool.
It's ironic that she and her sheeple crow on and on about how Kate puts her kids first, Kate knows best, Kate will always do what's best.
And yet Kate, who owns a pool, has completely and utterly failed at something SO simple that will keep them safe, learning to swim. Idiot and a half. That's not keeping your kids safe at all. It's downright stupid.

That would be Jon's fault. Don't ask why it just is.
I'm still stuck on last night's tweet about snuggling with M and watching a movie. When the cell phone confiscation fiasco hit, the company line was, TFW is her parent, not her friend! Discipline! Respect! Showing kids who's boss! How else can you handle 8 kids!
But now TFW has basically described a BFF pajama party with only
one of her 8 kids - the one she's had discipline problems with. How
confusing must that be to the teenager? And to the teenager's twin,
who wasn't in attendance? And to the 6 other kids who had to find
their evening's entertainment elsewhere? And this is their idea of a
responsible, consistent parent? Give me a break.
I'm beginning to think that they all come out of the same diluted gene pool. 176
More.likely a concentrated gene pool.
As far as whether or not TFW can swim, I guess it depends on what she actually said.
I don't swim (as in I prefer to sit by the pool and sun but don't really like to go in the water).
As opposed to
I can't swim.
My guess is she probably said "I don't swim.
Do the kids even know how to swim? Was their last swim lesson at the house in the Outer Banks?

Here's one from the wayback machine for those from the Bay Area (California). Does anyone else remember watching Pat McCormick after school on Channel 2? I think we have an idea for a new show. Put TFW into situations where somewhere along the line someone is going to throw a pie at her, spray her with shaving cream, push her off the dock...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There wouldn't be very many people involved, but if there were such a job, she could be a course demonstrator for Wipeout.
She's such a famewhore, she'll gladly volunteer to get beaten up by the course every week. It probably wouldn't even dawn on her that the course has been rigged to dump everybody into the water.
Plus, Wipeout's an ABC show - a venue where she's done extensive work in idiotic cluelessness.
NJGal51(186)
All I remember her saying is that she's not water-ish.
I think Kate said she couldn't swim on the OBX episode where Leah went underwater for a few seconds and Jon grabbed her. Maybe she has since learnt, but i doubt it. She is not 'waterish' and refuses to get wet.But then, she also said she did not like the sun ( Jon's birthday, her sunburn) in Florida.
She always used food as a weapon- 'you're done' if a child did not want what was put before them- Hannah wanted no milk on her cereal-just lifted them roughly from the highchair and put them in time-out. Portion control, Food/water withheld Order of eating lunch. Stale sandwiches repacked. Her 'menus.' Rating chart. Eggs.Cupcake-gate. Two ice cream misadventures. No wonder the tups are now all too thin except maybe a favored child.
Grandee (162)
You are in my prayers. And yes, several of us noticed her picking up the pancakes with her bare hand--even though she had a fork in her other hand. Isn't that, according to Kate herself, disgusting? In he mind, apparently, only kids are disgusting.
A reporter from WGN asked Kate this question in November 2011, and you could still ask it today:
"Do you ever think about, 20-25 years down the road where your kids are grown up and they may look at this experience from old tapes and not think of it as favorably?"
http://www.realitytvkids.com/2011/11/kate-in-chicago.html
There have been reporters who have tried.
http://www.realitytvkids.com/2011/11/kate-in-chicago.html
There have been reporters who have tried.
*******
I've said this before.
There have been reporters and hosts who have tactfully raised the questions and concerns, in a non-confrontational manner.
However, Kate's canned and carefully parsed answers generally, if not always, go unchallenged.
It would be interesting to have Kate face a panel of experts and historians (such as Petersen and Hoffman) who can counter her blithe assertions with some degree of rigor.
So let's just say Kate has to deal with the kids 24/7 during summer vacation and then gets to lay around the house all by herself while they are in school. Nice life. What I am waiting for is when they are all finished school. Now for fun, let's say some of the boys are kind of lazy and so are a couple of the girls. It happens. To all you parents who have/had teenagers, you know what I am talking about. All they might want to do is sleep in until noon and then head to the fridge to eat all her food. I wonder if she will put a lock on the fridge by then. Will they ever be able to just help themselves to the fridge's contents or will they still be on portion control. Oh the fireworks that will go on in that house in about 8 years. Oh, that's funny! 8 count em 8 years!!
Oh, and if some of them have summer jobs while in high school and I hope they all do, who is going to be driving them to and from their jobs? Will they be driving their own cars by then? Who is paying for that? Highly doubt they will be able to afford their own cars like she has gone on TV to say they will. Oh my, so much to fantasize about. I could get giddy thinking about all the hellish possibilities this lazy POS might be in for. Here's a little tip for you Kate. Make sure your kids don't get late night jobs on Friday and Saturday nights. It will really cut in to your drinking schedule if you have to stay sober to pick them up.

What separates those of us who comment here from the fans is that we're able to present evidence to back up our opinions. They are not
"factless." Is the topic food issues? All we need to do is go back to
the episodes of what TFW herself described as the "realest reality
show." We saw 3 children deprived of dessert on their birthday,
while 3 others got theirs. That's not gossip from pearl-clutching
hens - we saw it happen.
Then we have the fans, who create a fantasy version of TFW as a
supermom who's also their down-to-earth buddy. Gladys asked if
there was a poolside picnic. Huh? To her, TFW is a walking issue
of Woman's Day magazine -- making 3 thumbs-up meals a day,
juggling household chores, always finding new ways to occupy
and delight her children. When there's not only no evidence to
back this up, but there is evidence to disprove it.
Grandee4, blessings to you for what you've gone through, and wishing
you better times ahead. Glad we've been here as a distraction.
