Once in awhile a reality show comes along that tries to make a difference. "The Big Tip" promises to do just that by singling out people in the restaurant service industry deserving of recognition for community service or just all around do-gooders (one waitress is a foster mom, another gives all her money to a dog rescue, still another is also a firefighter). Rachael Ray will then present the waiter or waitress with a "big tip" in the form of a check.
We're not the biggest fan of chirpy Rachael Ray, her mediocre cooking skills and her ripoff garbage bowl marketed to solve a problem that never even existed, but this tear jerker is a cool idea. And it has a little bit of credibility, since Rachael started out as a waitress herself in her parents' restaurants. She works hard, owns pit bulls, and she promises not to bear offspring because she just wouldn't be a fit mother, which you have to respect. Looking forward to this one.
Sunday, Food Network. 10 p.m. or check local listings. The series premieres Sunday with promises of more episodes in the fall.

Interesting how TLC is showing lots of Honey Boo Boo reruns leading up to the new season, but no Kate+8 reruns. You'd think that they would air at least a few, leading up to the special, but no. I am positive that Kate is banking on the special being a huge hit and being given another show on TLC (AKA the only network that was ever intersted in the family), but TLC doesn't seem to be on the same page. Why did they wait 2 1/2 years to finally film a special? Why show promos but no reruns? Why give her a 10pm time slot? I think the folks at TLC are hoping the special bombs and they can wash their hands of her forever. If ratings are good, she will never leave them alone.

Even if the twins were fine with Kate there (they probably made her sit several rows behind them like most kids would) she's reaching the very last few months even weeks before these 13 year olds are going to be done with mom being their BFF.

I only have experience with my son, but by age 13, he no longer wanted to go to the movies with me, even if we did sit far apart and pretend not to know each other! It just was not cool to go to the movies with your mom. By 14 or so, he would always walk ahead of me at the store too. When I see TFW make them all hold hands as they are crossing the street, I can only imagine that the older girls (and possibly the ten-year olds) cringe inwardly at this babyish act.
Now at 16, I don't get to spend much time with my son. During the school year, he's at school, then he's doing after school activities (sports, ASB or on a rare free day, he'll hang out with friends), then home by 6 p.m. or later, dinner, a little tv time, and then he falls asleep.
I am sure the older girls would prefer to spend time with friends their own age (minus their bothersome mother), doing sports or other activities that interest them. I just hope the kids will stick together when their mom tries the "divide and conquer" method.

I would love to know if an update special was truly part of her original TLC contract, or if this is just something TLC approached her about while scrambling for something different to air. OR, if her people approached TLC. She did say last year her TLC contract was at an end, so I'm confused as to how this came about. It is so wierd to me that TFW consistently uses the phrases "shrieked with delight" and now "screamed" with delight about how the children supposedly react to things. She obviously thinks these are good descriptive words, but to me, shrieking and screaming both denote a negative element as well. I might scream while riding a roller coaster, because I both am afraid and excited. I have shrieked at times - such as when my cat brought a dead rat into the house.
To TFW, merely smiling happily is not sufficient. As the children are an extension of her, they must be seen as extra-special, not mediocre like some kid who might just smile at good news. No, they must scream with delight.

From a network's standpoint, TFW isn't worth investing in again for a
series for one very clear reason: there's no "juice" anymore. Look
at Honey Boo Boo - they kept things going by having the commitment
ceremony with her mother and Sugar Bear, and there's Anna's cute
baby to make people tune in. Then the Little Couple adopted a
second baby, and, although it's horrible to think of it this way,
the mother's cancer attracted viewers. And the Duggars have the
continuing "will they or won't they" appeal about having another baby, as well as having some of the kids marry, and new grandchildren.
But what will draw viewers to Kate Gosselin and her brood in 2014? No marital tension to watch - she kicked her husband to the curb.
No more cute toddlers and their malaprops. No more relatability -
the woman has 3 cars in her driveway. No more "where will they
go next" - they've been everywhere. Twice. No more wondering
how she does it all - it is well documented that she doesn't. No romantic drama to follow - she's either not been in a serious
relationship since the divorce, or is possibly in a relationship with
her bodyguard. She's 9 months away from 40, and looks every
minute of it - despite trying to "de-age" through cosmetic procedures.
I would imagine TLC is interesting in finding the Next Big Thing, and
capitalizing on that for a few years. It's the nature of the business.
So realistically, TFW's chances at "lightening" (sic) striking twice
are slim.

I think it was something like "Who Are You?" with the Alice in Wonderland photo and the caterpillar. Milo had tweeted a photo to Kate of a caterpillar, and the other blog (the defunct one) always included a caterpillar on a stick with their graphics of the sheeple.

Shrieking and screaming is overreacting for a lot of things. It's also her group mentality. Wouldn't one scream, one cheer, one laugh, one be quiet? I'd also be very concerned for their emotional development if every situation always had the exact same emotional reaction. (Oh wait that's their stunted mom.)
I am the aunt so I was able to sit seperately in the movie theater a little longer than moms. Always in front of them by several rows so I couldn't see them. Then I was relegated to drop offs. Well, drop offs and paying. I'm sure she goes with them to retain control. Or they never went at all. Wouldn't it have made the national news if anyone saw them at the movies?
Going back to Jon and the kids walking around their new property, each of the kids had a stick. IIRC, ond daughter started using hers as a weapon even after Jon told her to stop. She kept doing it. He took her stick and snapped it in half, and tossed it away. He did not threaten to hit her with it, but she sure didn't like having her stick taken away. I think he handled it responsibly.
Notice that Jon did not allow them to have sticks FOR THE EXPRESS PURPOSE OF TAKING THE STICKS AWAY, but he did remove the privilege of his daughter having a stick when she outright disobeyed him and was putting her siblings in jeopardy. It might be a fine line, but it is still an important line to consider, IMO.
Contrast that with Kate and Mady's cell phone.
The tups have no idea how embarrassed they will be when the show airs. I think Mady and Cara have a good idea what's in store. Oh brother, those excited tweets from her are going to get dumber and dumber as the show time airs.
I, too, would like to know how this update special came about. Although Kate said her contract ended, I would not be surprised there was some negotiation or clause that guaranteed her some follow up show. Remember, after the show was cancelled there was talk of updates so I think this was in play at that time. I sure hope this will be the last of it, but maybe not.

Thanks for the answer about the tups entering the fourth grade. So their TLC show was cancelled right when they entered the first grade. That is interesting to me. I know they went to the same school for kindergarten but they have never been in elementary school since they have been on their TV show. This will be the first time the tups have true classmates since they have been filmed. I wonder what the experience will be like for them. You know their classmates will be picking apart their appearances and commenting to them about it. If it were me at age 10, I would not like it at all. None of the entire school is on TV except for you. No thank you.

It is a CRYING SHAME that those boys and the girls who don't have sports because of their crazy mother. I saw a picture of a tup boy who was asleep on the couch with no shirt and his stomach was sunken in and his rib cage was protruding so bad. It is heartbreaking to see this. I thought I had saved the pic to my documents but I can't find it. She has withheld food them them, underfed them for years. Punished them to go to bed without supper. Remember when they were so ravenous at Henry's farm with the milk? Glass after glass. TW stood there and looked a little taken aback and said, well, I don't have to cook dinner tonight. And was she talking about the high price of organic milk? T Sadistic W. Stood there with that sadistic smile on her face when her precious tup boys couldn't eat their cupcakes with their sisters, and they wailed into oblivion. no way did those kids SCREAM with delight. She is sooooo transparent. If anybody was excited , it was Kate.
I think it's very possible the kids screamed/screeched when they saw the commercial. I can picture TFW being her over-the-top manic self (thinking she's all that and more), hyping them being on tv more and more each day, trying to drum up excitement in them. After all, you luvvvvv filming, right kids? ugh I think she worked overtime trying to brainwash them about the 'fun' they were going to have and how wonderful it was to be back in front of the cameras again.
I also think the kids are afraid to express an opinion that doesn't agree with hers; Mady being shut down in the clip is a perfect example. With the book coming out and the show airing in a week, she's definitely manic and desperate. I think there's a lot of screeching and screaming going on in that house and it's probably not all based on happiness and positivity.

Are you talking about sports outside of school, such as community team sports, Little League, etc? The kids do play sports in school. Team sports are a part of their regular PE classes, all year around, Kate can't nix that. It's not like they have no idea what to do with a basketball or baseball.

Jon doesn't have the legal authority/custody needed to sign them up for an organized sport. Of course he could take them to games and different activities but he'd have to go thru TFW for them to participate regularly in an activity like scouting or sports.

I doubt the contract guaranteed her a follow up show but rather there was a clause that left it open that TLC could, at any time, agreeable to both parties, option to film an update show. And, we know TFW would never turn down the offer to film again.

Just thinking about the G kids being interested in the Little Couple show and children. The young twitter fans of J&K+8 started watching when they were @ the tups age. They're the ones tweeting now about spending vacations watching reruns and being so excited they're coming back. Yep, TFW said friends would be over to watch the show with them but the age of the friends is the question for me. In the past she's described production people as friends/family and people her age as their friends. While I sincerely hope the kids have interactions with many people their own age, I take everything TFW says with a dash of doubt and a grain of salt.

Going back to Jon and the kids walking around their new property, each of the kids had a stick. IIRC, ond daughter started using hers as a weapon even after Jon told her to stop. She kept doing it. He took her stick and snapped it in half, and tossed it away. He did not threaten to hit her with it, but she sure didn't like having her stick taken away. I think he handled it responsibly.
Notice that Jon did not allow them to have sticks FOR THE EXPRESS PURPOSE OF TAKING THE STICKS AWAY, but he did remove the privilege of his daughter having a stick when she outright disobeyed him and was putting her siblings in jeopardy. It might be a fine line, but it is still an important line to consider, IMO.

This is how I remember the episode too, however, shortly after taking the stick away one of the girl tups (A) tripped and bit her lip and had to go to the doctor.
Jon was immediately there to comfort and administer aid ... You hear this a lot with DV cases too. Why didn't you just leave?
Very few people are able to "pack up and leave with the kids." Not without a long build up and support. And what support groups are out there are almost always for women. Some don't even ALLOW men in their group or to participate in their services.
The reasons are numerous why someone would not leave. I'm not saying it's an excuse, I'm just saying it's pretty much the norm that a spouse does not leave a child abuser. It just doesn't happen all that often. I'd like to think I would always leave an abusive situation the second it begins, but thank God I've never been in one and don't know for sure.

Speaking of attorneys Dateline had a really interesting 20 year anniversary special on OJ. I'd forgotten a lot of this. I hate to say it but I kind of respect Kris Kardashian. Even though her children's father defended the guy she explained, in a respectful manner, that Nicole was her friend. She revealed some of the concerning things Nicole said to her and said yes I do believe OJ is guilty. She went on to say however her ex husband would NEVER tamper with evidence and all implications of that is nonsense. I thought it was a nice interview for once. It's okay to disagree with your ex even publicly as long as you do so in a way that does not BASH them and it doesn't kill you to point out their strong suits too, like his integrity.

I am conflicted about Jon's involvement in what happened to the children. Yes he knew they were abused by Kate. Did he feel trapped with no choices? Maybe. It would feel overwhelming to take 8 children and no money and try to start a life. We all think we would know exactly what to do. But we just don't have enough details about what Jon tried.
I'm more disturbed by the sheeple who say that it's ok, Kate just snapped because life is so hard, and we shouldn't dwell on it. Kate knows deep down that abuse is wrong. (She called Jon to come home to save the kids from her.) She had lots of other options. She abused anyway. I believe she still abuses. Making up words is excusable. He's threatening to contact the lawyer's clients. The lawyer immediately filed with the presiding judge about the tactics being directed at him. He wants no compensation, but asks that consideration for his client be considered. I hope this will be the circling of the drain for BV.

Well we could go on for hours about all the issues that come with leaving a spouse in a situation like this.
One big concern is that there is no guarantee that will work. The other spouse could turn right around and destroy you in family law court and get full custody. They could make up allegations right back there about you, like sexual abuse. If they can get the kids to say so all of a sudden your "leaving the kids to get away from the abuser" has completely backfired.
If your kids are your priority, it is a perfectly rational and reasonable decision to stay with such a spouse if you think that will be best for the children. It may not be the best decision an outsider approves of but it is one rational decision. You stay with them ad change things and try to get them help. For instance, quit your job so you can be home all the time. For instance, going to a parenting class together or therapy. Issue ultimatums. All things we have no idea whether they were tried. I have no idea if she is still physically abuse them, maybe she's not. I do know there is emotional abuse going on, that's on camera.

Conduct yourself in court with integrity. Win on the merits of the case not on being a troll. The way the tweet stands now, Kendra will only see it if she reads Kate's timeline. She's received so many birthday tweets she may not have even seen if Kate did tag her.

If I understand correctly, last December McGiblets hired another hacker to further harass moms and grandmas who spoke out about Kate. When this guy found out who his targets were, he said no thanks and gave BV his money back. He immediately became one of BV's many enemies. The female lawyer represented this man at one time. The man is back in jail on a parole violation from a previous conviction.
The current TX lawsuit is against some haters, two other guys and the entire internet. Really. No one seems to know what the guys did, but BV is obsessed with them. None of these people ever met, but one of the voices in BV's head told him they all know each other and they all conspired to defame him, so that's what the suit is about. It seems he was pretty sure that no one would respond and he would "win" again by default. One of the guys responded, so BV immediately tried to nonsuit. TX has some pretty stiff SLAPP laws, just because you try to drop your lolsuit, it doesn't mean you get off the hook for filing a frivolous suit in the first place. Sanctions (if there are any) are supposed to be handed down tomorrow.
Regarding the sheeple class action suit, that never materialized because, according to one of BV's minions, it was not necessary since RWA was shut down. No driving Escalades around the barnyard for the ewes.
You can't write this stuff. It's a big 'ol hot mess of a trainwreck. I can't look away, although some of it has been informative regarding the legal aspect of it all. Please do not judge/jump on me, I simply wanted to answer Lanc Native's question, as I believe she asked about this a few weeks ago and no one answered.

As far as the abuse goes it's clear from Kate's diaries that filming the show made her extremely happy. And busy. Perhaps there wasn't as much time or energy for child abuse, not to mention as others pointed out all the people around all the time. Remember, most of the most heinous descriptions are about when the children were very little. Less so if any when they were older. If things were relatively stable, it makes sense not to rock the boat by "packing up and leaving with the kids."

She's freely admitted to how much TV she watches at night - why can't she own up to watching during the day? Nope - she says she NEVER does.
That is one of my major issues with TFW. If you've got help, and you
don't have a full-time job, it's not a crime to watch TV during the day.
She could've just said she caught that episode - what's the big deal?
But the illusion she's created as an overworked, ever-harried single
mom makes her feel she has to lie. And now I think she's lied so
much about so much that it's second nature to her. And that's
disturbing, as she's modeling this behavior for her 8 children.
Any time I've heard interviews with child stars who are doing well, a key thing about it is that in their real life their movie career is downplayed.
They aren't treated special, they don't host huge viewing parties to watch their movies. Sometimes they might not even see everything they've done. They focus on baseball and friends and piano lessons while at home, not on their press conference with Tom Cruise they have to do the next day.
Building them up like this is just not attractive at all. What goes for adults goes for kids: never believe your own publicity.

I couldn't agree with you more. I think it is Robert's voice through a computerized voice box. It is creepy, but the creep factor is what TW did and I think Robert is trying to show how it is through a child's voice and child's eyes. It is very effective.

IIRC, from the old episodes, the walls in their room were bare and there was nothing but a few toys strewn on the floor. Most mothers I know decorate the nusery with in baby themes. Theirs looked like the children's quarters in one of those old asylums. I wonder what kind of memories she was making for them when they were thrown in there like little prisoners afer they were beaten, the blinds were pulled down and the door slammed shut.

Not sure how Robert could have been a reporter of events, since he wasn't there. Maybe it's just me, but I question if we should even go there on this blog. Perhaps admin may disagree. We do discuss everything and anything here. However, we have no idea if physical abuse is still happening; emotional, no question about it. However, if these kids are still being hit, spanked, or whatever, I would hope that there are those who would report it. There are mandated reporters. Moreover, kids talk, even though their abusers would try to silence them through intimidation and fear of further punishment. Something like this, though, really couldn't be swept under the rug, particularly since right now Kate is under close scrutiny and I would think that she's being watched like a hawk. If physical abuse is ongoing, she couldn't have something like this coming out. She'd be very stupid to continue it.
