TLC announces Kate Plus 8 will return in December

TLC posted the following press release on their site:
You watched Kate Gosselin plan the sextuplets' 10th birthday bash in June (and have an epic meltdown) and now you can follow your favorite oversized family on their summer vacation and into the new school year. "Kate Plus Eight" will return to TLC in December with all-new episodes! This time around, Kate and her eight growing kids will travel to Boston and explore different parts of New England on a family vacation.
You'll also see the kids rounding out the final days of summer with fun activities, while Kate preps the household for another school year. Teenagers Cara and Mady start 8th grade, and the sextuplets you know and love -- Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel -- are beginning 4th grade. We can't wait to see the kids prepare for pencils, books and maybe even teachers' dirty looks, while balancing their time between friends and siblings. And you can be we'll see more classic Kate moments and funny banter from the outspoken kids.

Out of the rumored DWTS "stars", I have only heard of 4 of them. Tommy Chong, Antonio Sabato,Jr., Alfonso Ribeiro, and Lea Thompson.

I'm sure Alfonso will be the one criticized as this year's "ringer" because he starred on Broadway 30 years ago in "The Tap Dance Kid".

Not sure how I feel yet about Julianne Hough being added as a fourth judge. I didn't like her when she guested as a host last year.

For you fellow LIW fans, did you know that a new book is coming out in November? It's called "Pioneer Girl" and is the unpublished manuscript that Laura wrote, with annotations and cross-references and a lot of additional research sponsored by the LIW Society and the SD Historical Society. Included will be the story of Laura's little brother, Charles Frederick, who was born and died within a year, the family's sojourn in Burr Oak, Iowa, and other details not included in the Little House books, because they were considered too adult for children. Bet you thought that during the Long Winter, it was Ma, Pa, and the girls living in that store front. Wrong. Another family shared the living space with them. You can read about some of the research, the writing process, and other information at http://pioneergirlproject.org . I can't wait to get my copy of it. Unfortunately, I don't think there are any plans to release a digital version of it.

Millicent: I remember Amy Roloff, several times, over the years, saying to Matt, enough, with the harebrain ideas. They cost money, and Matt likes to do things last minute. Matt also does not consult Amy, if he does it's last minute, before he does it. I agree, Matt has probably put the family in debt, even with the money from TLC, they probably have bills up the wazoo. I remember one season, Amy was complaining about bills, Matt wanting to buy more land, and expecting the kids to help with the farm, when they were on school break. Matt is chasing his kids away. The farm is his dream, not Amy's, not the kids. There was an episode where they go into it about Matt wanting to expand the farm and Amy was not keen on it, cause of the bills they already have, and she was looking forward to retiring early and going else where, in fact in a look back of the Roloffs, Amy was not crazy about living on a farm, Matt convinced her. At their age who wants another mortgage, big house, when they are becoming empty nesters. Matt was hoping the kids would plant themselves at the farm, but they are not. I saw how disappointed he was when Jeremy announced he was going to get married, and start a job, that was not on the farm. Matt was angry, you could see it, on him: it was no! you can't do that, that is not the plan. Amy was delighted.

OT Roo update. We saw the vet. Healing looks good. One more week of stitches and cone. :(
No day care until stitches are out. She came to work with me yesterday. Behaved beautifully - even asked to go out at appropriate times (I hope that was delicate enough).
Even though she didn't get a lot of exercise at the office, it was apparently mentally stimulating as she was tired last night. :)

Yes, I heard about that and am very excited. I'm rereading the original series right now. I'm really looking forward to the stories as she initially wrote them. They're apparently much grittier than the edited version and certainly more than the television series.

Formerly -- "Pioneer Girl" is for adults. It's being cross-referenced with a lot of historical documents, too. I can't wait! It was supposed to come out last year, but there were so many historical documents that they wanted to cross-reference, and a couple of versions of the hand-written manuscript by LIW, that they took longer. I'd signed up for it on the LIW Society website some time ago, and I got a notice today that they'll be taking the pre-orders and payment in the next couple of weeks. Sheri -- yes, life was much grittier than portrayed in the Little House books, but then she was writing for children. The TV series did include the story of her little brother, but it strayed so far from fact or even fictionalized fact that it might as well have been about some random invented character. Not that it was a bad show -- not at all, but it certainly didn't bear much resemblance to LIWs life.

Formerly -- I may call myself Bitchy Pants now, but I will always and forever be a readerlady ;>) !

********
I used to watch that show years ago. It took me awhile to realize how much Matt favored the oldest twin, Jeremy, and basically ignored the other twin, Zach. Using my amateur armchair psychology, I figured it was because Jeremy was everything Matt wished he could have been. 1. Not a little person; 2. Not just not a little person, but a tall, athletic, handsome young man; 3. Did I mention Jeremy is good-looking, attractive to the young ladies? He was the golden boy in Matt's eyes. Once I saw it, I had such a hard time watching the show after that.

On the other hand, Amy loved both the twins but she seemed to favor Zach and baby him. She had no time for the youngest, Jacob. He had to hang out with the farm helper. When that gentleman unexpectedly died, that's when Jacob was really left all alone.

And Molly - the middle child, the one that tries to please everyone - I hope she forges her own life far enough away from the farm and her dysfunctional family, so that she can truly enjoy life on her own terms. Maybe she can make room for poor neglected Jacob somehow too.

I would find watching the Roloffs almost as painful as watching Kate and those sad children she forces to perform like circus monkeys. One family has a parent who screams at the kids and physically abuses them; the other have two parents who have been neglectful, disinterested, and showed extreme favortism. I find Matt, Amy and Kate all failures as parents.

That's an interesting thought. How about this one:

For anyone who wants to be positive, begin by focusing on the positive, both within yourself and in those around you. When you pass someone in the street, offer a smile. Offer a sincere compliment to the person who waits on you at the bank or the grocery store. Don't expect others to lift you up - maybe they are simply too caught up in their own stresses to put their focus on you. Look inward for inspiration; read stories that inspire you, or listen to beautiful music; take a walk and look at the nature around you. Don't expect that others should fill your needs - it would be nice if it happened, but a wiser person will realize that it's best to find ways to fulfill your own needs.

Of course, this is too long and would fit into a single tweet.

I think the reason this fan thinks that CA is going to air this month is because back in July someone asked Donald Trump on twitter when CA was going to air. He replied "In the Fall". Kate retweeted DT's tweet.

So since Fall actually starts this month, the fan probably assumed it would air when all the Fall shows start or it's just wishful thinking on her part.

As Fleecing pointed out the CA website still says "coming soon". Also in the list of NBC shows at the bottom of that page, CA is listed nowhere, not even under "upcoming shows". I did notice that NBC did add "Peter Pan Live" to the list of upcoming shows. That is airing on December 4, and NBC has released some promo pics about it.

So if it ever airs, I don't think it will air until at least late December, or possibly next year after football season is over.

Maybe TLC is hoping that it will be airing in December, which is the reason why they are airing the specials in December.

Funny how that works. Make it a point to catch their eye and smile. Hardly ever do people not respond. Their faces just light up.

I saw a challenge on a different blog. Spend six seconds a day making someone not feel invisible. I've been having a lot of fun with that one.

Way better than accusing internet strangers of bullying, or whatever.

Dmasy said...

I read the book "Nickeled and Dimed" a few years ago. It changed how I treated "invisible" people who serve us.

I don't think I was ever unkind, but I stepped up my game for gratitude and recognition.

It is amazing the effect it has when you use someone's name when you thank them or ask a question. The connection becomes more "real".

I would add to that, be careful in your quest to lift others up, that you aren't overlooking bad behavior or even supporting it. Not everyone deserves your positivity.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

&&&

Yes, I agree. Sure does.

This happens to a lot of couples, especially when you marry young and for love alone.

There has been a lot more research in the past few decades about successful relationships and they keep coming back to this idea that for a relationship to work long term you usually need to have a lot in common. The theory behind it is that scientifically the love/chemistry hormones usually fade, sometimes in only a few years. When that fades, you need to be with someone you actually like and can share and enjoy things you both like together. If one person loves just spending time with their kids, going out to eat with them, kicking a soccer ball around, and gets great joy from that, and the other just sees the kids as a nuisance and would prefer not to "hang out" with them and would rather tweet instead, that's a fundamental compatibility problem. If one parent is satisfied after a few years they've been on T.V. enough and would rather just go back to normal life, and the other will never be satisfied it's enough, that's a compatibility problem. That's just two huge differences I see between these parents and why it was never going to work.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I haven't read that book but it sounds good. My mom always used people's names when talking to them, even strangers if she could find it out. I've started to do that myself, most places you go where you are serviced people either wear name tags or tell them your name. It really does personalize things. I've been doing a lot of photography lately and sometimes have to ask permission to go on someone's private property. The first thing I do is introduce myself and ask their name. So far, I've never been turned away.

shouldn't that be reciprocal? Why is Gladys suggesting TFW is the

treated them just the same way? Or is she forever off the hook
because she has 8 kids?

How about Gladys suggesting TFW surround herself with people
she enjoys spending time with, whose values are similar to hers,
who make her laugh, who are kind-hearted and sincere? Or,
even better, how about NOT suggesting ANYTHING to a woman
who is 6 months away from 40, and probably doesn't need or

&&&

I don't know if the favoritism was that bad. Both parents have done many things for Zach. They've taken the whole family to lots of Little People conferences around the country just for him. That was all for Zach. He was once an extremely shy child, and they've both really tried to push him to open up more. If a pretty girl was talking to him, they'd encourage him to ask her to hang out later. He was a kid who needed that kind of push. They pushed him to get a job, go to school, travel in Europe with Jeremy. He's had some surgeries, and they both seemed extremely supportive and there for him through that. Matt seems to really relate to him since Matt has been through a lot of hospital stays. They've encouraged him in his current relationship, and he is with a wonderful young woman who is a teacher.

I think the family's problem may be as basic as an overscheduling problem. They always have a million things going on, not even including filming which must be very demanding, and something has got to give. I think what probably gave the most was Jacob, there just wasn't the time for him, he was always last in line.

They are by no means perfect parents, nobody is. But what I do respect about them is that they never put their heads down and said whoa is me we have too many challenges to bear. Unlike Kate, who seems to think she is somehow special and different and has challenges that nobody else could possibly have, they have tried to live like a NORMAL family. They raised kids not only to face pretty severe challenges but to for the most part ignore them. I wish that was Kate's attitude. It seems to be Jon. So we got dealt a hand of a ton of kids. So what? Shut up about it and move on.

I think there are a lot of important life lessons that can come from being raised by little people. I think many families are dysfunctional. But we can't be in the business of regulating dysfunction. Most dysfunction is something you can work through and be fine about, just like I believe this family can. If I knew them in real life I don't know if I would be friends with them, but I wouldn't consider them enemies either.

Exactly. A true friend does not expect that other friends are there to constantly stroke your ego. If that's what Milo thinks friendship is she is missing out on a lot. I'm not talking about situations where you truly need support like if you are ailing or going through something difficult. But a daily ego stroke is ridiculous and not necessary for a grown woman who is supposed to have it all together. In fact I think most people would find this kind of constant slobbering they do to Kate annoying. Friendship should be mutual. Nobody is there to "serve" the other. You are in a relationship together for the good of the relationship. You're not a personal assistant, you're a friend.

By the way all this feels like a passive aggressive slam at Beth anyway.

Beth is no longer a true friend because she didn't build up and enable Kate. Beth told Kate what Kate needed to hear, and that's not what an enabler does in sheepleland. So they subtly attack her credibility by degrading her as a true friend, even though in reality, a true friend would really not let someone get away with totally unacceptable and unethical behavior. The ironic thing is, Beth is the best friend Kate could have ever had and could have really helped her, but she pissed her away.

To add another counter argument to Kate's whining about how she needs to exploit them to pay for college, new stats just out say hiring of those with college degrees has flatlined. The work world is changing.

It may be much better for some of them to learn a trade, which could be upwards of a hundred times cheaper than traditional college. Then she won't really need a college fund at all.

Personally I think all the talk about college funds is just Kate talking some talk that she thinks people want to hear. Nothing she does for the kids suggests she has any interest in giving them things she never had. Even the fancy private school started as a security, keep the public away from them thing. She and Jon did not go to 4 year colleges, she does not act like her kids should either. She has said they will have to buy their own cars when they turn 16. Doubt her family had much money for the enrichment activities we talk about here, and she certainly does not move her lazy ass to give them any of those during the school year and in the summer. This year's vacation? Grifted for filming. The only person she spends freely on is herself. The house was for her, the excess cars are for her, clothes, nails and cosmetic enhancements, all for her.

So no, I do not think she really cares if there is money for college, 8 kids x 4 years. We shall see in a few years. Can you imagine her actually helping with a college application form?

Milo and Uggs and most of the rest of that herd are nothing more than a bunch of apple polishers. That's the only kind of friend Kate wants anyway because she's too duplicitous to have a genuine relationship with anyone. Beth found that out the hard way.

ITA, Orange. Kate is selfish. It was selfishness that drove her to have multiples and all she cares about is her facade as a mother. Frankly, she will spend every nickel and the only money those kids will see is what Jon put aside.

I would like to comment on Beth. I have often wondered if Beth picked up on any vibes regarding Steve. That may have disillusioned her about Kate's sincerity. We gals are very perceptive.

I don't think all 8 will necessarily go to a 4 year college. I can see a couple going to an agricultural program, maybe one work right out of high school and marry early, perhaps drama school , a photography college etc. one expressed interest in veterinary school, maybe another in a math -related field. Who knows? But they are entitled to the money for college or in lieu of it. Plus they'll need time and funds for their tell-all books, lol! They want to make the NY Bestseller list after all.

The twins started there in first grade. They really weren't well known at that point, and the younger ones went to a public pre-school in a church, so I'm not too sure that they started at the current school for security. I think the reason the kids were enrolled there is because of Beth. Kate wanted everything that Beth had (and more) and because Beth recommended the school, she wanted to do the same thing for her kids. The Single White Female thing...keeping up with the Joneses.

I was vacationing/shopping in Belfast Maine on August 17. The black Mercedes van rolled up with Kate at the wheel and all eight children plus two camera men and two boom mike sound men. There was also a lady who appeared to be assisting with wrangling. They were filming when they all walked past me on the street. When Kate made eye contact with me, I said, "Nice entourage" and she scowled at me like I was a fly in her soup.

So, I counted, kate, 8 kids, the child wrangler, 4 film crew guys, and was Steve crammed in there too? That would make 15 people in that van. I don't think that is legal, right? Seatbelts for everybody right?

Oh, just thought about Mady's friend that was supposedly there? Is it a 16 head count now? I wonder if the child wrangler was Jamie.

I bet that most people got that "vibe".
As Robert reported, Kate took hundreds of pics of Steve while on vacation. None of Jon.
This does not go unnoticed.

I remember seeing a pic that Kate took of Steve, at Disney, and he was looking mighty relaxed with his prissy umbrella drink.
This was *years* ago, and Kate felt the need to take numerous candids of the "bodyguard"?.

Yeah, that's platonic....

Little People - used to watch the show, but in my opinion, they got caught up in the fame and fortune, just like all the other reality "stars" have been. I would rather watch a true documentary about people living different lives than all this crap. Lisa Ling's America (which I have heard is no longer being produced), is fantastic. The Sprinter passenger van has a max capacity of 12. I imagine TFW, Ratclaws, the G8, M's friend, and maybe Deanna were in the van. The production crew and equipment would have been in a second vehicle.

There is no way 16 people plus all the recording equipment fit in one van. Besides, the camera crew would need a good 15 minutes to get everything set up. I imagine the poster saw TFW drive up and didn't notice the second vehicle with the camera crew already there waiting on her to arrive.

For those following the political news, former Governor ”Ferrari Hairdo” McDonnell and First Lady ” Cheerleader Nutbag” Maureen McDonnell were found guilty of conspiracy and public corruption charges. For a hilarious and 100% ABSOLUTELY TRUE summary of the case, google The Daily Show clip ” The Gifting Tree” from early August. If they had not been so mean to the help, specifically the governors mansion chef, none of this information would have come to light.
Does this relate to TFMJG? Yes! If you are mean to people, and if you get into court, they WILL tell everyone how horrible you are! The former first lady was referred to by former staffers (and these are people who LIKE her) as a nutbag, gullible, manipulative, hysterical, prone to temper tantrums, and worse.
Our current governor and first lady in contrast are refreshingly boring and sensible and not prone to temper tantrums.

I was fortunate to see her perform at Kutshers Hotel in what's known as the Borscht Belt on New Year's Eve in the late '80s. For some reason, it keeps growing, and the pool is just your average size PA inground pool; in fact, smaller than many. ---------------------

It's too bad that she didn't do more of that instead of making hurtful remarks about others. She may have thought them to be funny and just a joke, but when it becomes cruel, nasty and degrading somehow it kind of takes the comedy out of it, and those who are the butt of her jokes don't find them amusing. But that was her thing, and she stuck with it. I never found her to be humorous, but many did, and that's what makes the world go around.

I just don't understand why a woman in her 80s would agree to have a procedure done in a clinic, especially when anesthesia is used. Perhaps they advised her that this was just a minor thing, but good gosh, at her age she should have been in a hospital, not miles away from one. I'm also wondering if this surgery was a medical necessity...if she was having problems with her vocal chords, or exactly what was the nature of her medical condition? It's such a shame to think that here was an apparently healthy woman who had performed the day before, only to wind up the next day on life support. I read that the clinic is now under investigation, and of course, there no doubt will be the law suit for medical malpractice. I'm sure we'll find out in the coming weeks exactly what happened.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I think they said she had an endoscopy done. I've had that, and it's just a matter of sticking a camera down your throat. They just give you twilight sleep for that, so that shouldn't be a problem even if you're elderly. I remember most of it. Like the dentist. You wouldn't usually require the elderly to go to a hospital for dental work.

I have heard however the clinic is being investigated, and they should be just to make sure. However it sounds like just a tragic accident. Any time you take drugs that affect your consciousness you're at risk, even if the risk is small. Sounds like she had a turn of bad luck. RIP.

Yes. And I think that's the story of so many people that gravitate toward celebrity. It inherently attracts these types. After all who in their right mind would want to be famous? There's the people who do it for the true love of comedy or whatever their craft is. And then it's these people who base their whole worth on public approval and are constantly chasing the public eye. Kate of course is definitely in this category. I don't believe for one second she has a true passion for WHATEVER it is she does or wants to do, be a host or cook or whatever. It's all about the fame and attention, recognition and approval. The likes and comments, if you will.

I think Robin Williams was one who truly didn't like the fame aspect of it and was more comfortable staring at his shoes when people approached him. He did not care about likes and comments, rather it seems to embarrass him. I do believe he loved comedy and not the fame. Fame was a natural consequence because he was so good. Ultimately, I think his legacy will be stronger than hers.

To be honest I haven't seen much of her stand ups so I can't remember examples of her being so cruel as others seem to. I seem to remember her doing a lot of segments with the muppets when I was a kid. I remember really enjoying that. I can't imagine this cutting brand of comedy others are talking about was part of it. I'm sure she toned it down.

And I did enjoy her time on CA. I thought she was generally more competent and smarter than the average celeb, though a bit whiny and was definitely playing a pretty aggressive game, complete with stomping out when she was mad, etc.

+++++++++++++++++

There's a difference, especially if you have to clean it. Our home was over 7500 square feet and we downsized to 5600 square feet. It felt much more manageable. I'd never go back to that much square footage again. I never had a staff, though...didn't need one, but then again, I didn't go back to bed in the morning!

5,000 square feet here is just a bit more than average. It is not a huge house; it is not a mansion. It's just a nice large house, comfortable for a family of four or five and I don't know anyone who has a staff or live-in maid...just a landscape crew to help with the outside if the house sits on a nice size piece of land.

Okay. I think we're always going to disagree on this.

5,000 is flipping huge to me. And in my opinion, it is a mansion. Definitely more house than most Americans will ever see in their entire lives. Many celebs live in houses much smaller. I guess the big farmhouse thing for when you had 10 kids never downsized. IMO, it's a totally unnecessary expense if you don't have a ton of kids to fill the rooms. Make no mistake, this is not how most people live.

Joan Rivers made big money at other people's expense--right up to the very week she died.

A big for-instance: E's long-running "Fashion Police" was all about calling people out for their body flaws and poor fashion choices. Here, via wiki, are some of the regular show segments. (No, I didn't -- couldn't bear to--watch.

Rack Report, in which a celebrity is guessed based solely on the amount of cleavage revealed by their outfit.

Bitch Stole My Look, in which two or more stars are shown to have worn the same outfit on different occasions. Joan and the panelists discuss the stars in question and declare which person looked best in the outfit. Both the loser and the winner may be subject to ridicule, with the winner being chosen as the lesser of two evils.

Busted!, in which celebrities are caught wearing the same outfit at two or more different events.

Gotta have it!, Make it Stop!, in which new trends among celebrities are discussed deciding whether we should have them or make them stop.

Hot Ticket, in which the panelist discuss looks by celebrities shown at the premiere of a movie or a Hollywood event.

Slut Cut, in which Joan and the panelist dishes on celebrities choosing to cut their dresses shorter than the original runway length. (until 2010)

Starlet or Streetwalker, in which a photograph of a person with their face obscured is presented, often the person in question will sport revealing or disheveled clothing. Joan and the panelists have a paddle with 'Starlet' written on one side and 'Streetwalker' on the other. They then take turns guessing which of the two they think the person in the photo may be, before their identity—or lack thereof—is revealed.

Guess Me From Behind, where the hosts guess a celebrity based solely from their behind.

A big for-instance:

&&&

See in every one of your examples she is making fun of celebrities. That doesn't get my dander up. I mean what do we do here but make fun of a celebrity, albeit a D lister. Why does that offend but not snark on Kate? Celebs are public figures and sign up for the snark.

Celebrities are made fun of constantly. It's part of the job. Fashion is made fun of in all the tabloids. Really cutting things are said. I don't think it's malicious. Celebs/fashion/silly celebrities is something we've snarked on for decades. She didn't pioneer it. And if she likes an outfit she will say so. She actually quite liked my celeb and I don't think ever said a mean thing, she thought that wardrobe was usually quite classy.

If you're talking about making fun of private people I think that's different.

I think the celebrity culture in this country is generally silly and that most of them should be made fun of. We need to remind ourselves how silly this is, as often as possible. Nobody has to be a celeb. The ones that truly aren't silly, like say Robin Williams, are rarely made fun of. If you don't like the fashion police coming after you, you don't have to sign up to be a celeb.

I think they said she had an endoscopy done. I've had that, and it's just a matter of sticking a camera down your throat. They just give you twilight sleep for that.
--------------------------------------
I thought they said she had some sort of procedure/operation on her throat or vocal cords.

I looked up the website for the facility where she had the procedure, and it certainly emphasized endoscopies and colonoscopies; couldn't be sure if that's all they do. I wondered if she was there for an endoscopy & colonoscopy. I had both (in one session), but in a hospital. I wondered if this clinic is one of those upscale places with posh waiting rooms and fancy looking facilities, but less medical back-up in case something goes wrong.

Sleepless In Seattle said...

They just give you twilight sleep for that, so that shouldn't be a problem even if you're elderly. I remember most of it. Like the dentist. You wouldn't usually require the elderly to go to a hospital for dental work.

-----------------

This is true, but any time any kind of anesthesia is used, particularly on an older person, I would opt for having it done in a hospital, with a crash cart nearby, even if you're just having dental surgery. You just never know how the body is going to react. Something caused her to stop breathing, and if the procedure is just a matter of "looking" down her throat, she obviously had some kind of drug to sedate her. I think that I read, though, that this wasn't just a "look" at her vocal chords. It was mentioned that she said she was more raspy than usual, and repair work was to be done. One just never knows if the drug used, even if it's a benign one, is going to cause an allergic reaction.

To some, it's flipping huge. To some, it's a mansion. but I have never, , heard anyone in this area who has a house this size refer to it as a mansion. They'd chuckle at that. I've never heard it called an estate, either. I guess it's a matter of location. We grow everything big here. . You can get a very nice 5,000 square foot house in the $450,000 to $500,000 price range. What would one pay for a house that size in CA? I really don' know, just asking.

I do know that a friend of mine lives in southern CA. He has a very small, modest rancher on no land whatsoever. He can cook in his kitchen and hand a burger out his window to the neighbor in his kitchen. His house was appraised at $800,000. When he told me that, I said, "What did you say?" lol!! Here, it would be about $159,000 or less.

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I think one reason most of us don't need to have huge 5,000 square foot mansions here is because we have great weather. Conceivably you're outside a lot, at the beach, park, hiking, whatever. It's a big backyard with lots of places to stretch out. I can see why a big house might be preferred if you're pretty much stuck inside it for most of the year because it's frequently rainy and cold, or perhaps even too humid in the summer to be outside. Helps with cabin fever. Giada lives in a very modest beach house a short drive to the beach, she doesn't need some huge thing because she can be outside enjoying all that PP has to offer. Lots of celebs live the same.

I do come from big farmhouse country, but they weren't THAT big. I would say more like 3,500 tops, not including basements or outbuildings. I don't think I've EVER seen an old farmhouse that is 5,000 square feet. I know how big that is, and that's insane. You'd go bankrupt heating it all and never have time to clean it. Kate's home looks fairly new to me, and in my book, qualifies as the pre-recession big mac supersize McMansion craze. I think that's all that is, IMO.

See, I think that's funny and I don't think it's mean exactly. I think it's just snark. A better celebrity would laugh at that. Just like a better celebrity would laugh if someone made a jab about their entourage of kids. That is FUNNY. Enjoy life and don't take it too seriously. Most of her brand of humor seems more like teasing and jabs rather than outright viciousness, though I have heard she did go there sometimes. She's gotten under the skin of some silly celebrities like Kristin Stewart. It's hard to not root for Joan in such situations. She also said Lena Dunham is uptight and full of herself. I don't think that's cutting. I think that's just telling your take about your own personal observations, and probably has a lot of truth to it. Then she had to make some gabs about Lena's weight and I think that's too far, but most of what she said was on point. Lena does seem to think she is this generation's gift to television. Joan was the only one with the guts to say it. And I bet if Lena jabbed Joan back with some comment about her looking like a skeleton or whatever, Joan would take it in stride, laugh that big hearty laugh of hers, and they'd be friends.

Re: house size. 5000 is a lot of house here in CA. We had 3000, smallish city lot, but plenty of room to raise 3 kids. Plenty. And it is worth a sickening amount of $$$ by most standards. We are currently leasing a condo in our move transition phase, we have 2000 and that is plenty for the 2 of us. Ultimately we hope to buy a house in our new town for around that much square feet; our kids live here and so we will not need a house big enough for long visits. Yes, I think you're right. Those places are pretty common in big cities. There is a real demand for a more intimate, discreet, non-clinical setting. They seem very popular for outpatient surgeries, obstetrics, and plastic surgery.

I think the key is you need to be both trained and equipped to handle an emergency, and you need to have a quick exit to a hospital. Many of them are located NEXT to hospitals. My dentist is in a building like this with a bunch of dermatologists and it's a block away from a major L.A. hospital.

For all we know, they did all they could for her and a hospital wouldn't have made a difference.

I wonder if this will cause more regulations of these home-like clinics. When I had the camera thing done my doctor did go over a long list of risks with it, including death, but made sure to emphasize they were very rare. I can't imagine Joan's doctor didn't do the same and I'm sure mentioned the risk with age. Freak things happen on the operating table. I really would be surprised if they didn't have a crash kit on hand including defibrillators, and used them. That's exactly what a hospital would do.

Question is does Milo get a specific answer from Kate on how to respond to criticism, or does TFW respond under Milo's name? How does Milo know what Kate is thinking? I know "they communicate in several ways," as noted by Milo, but wonder if Milo is Kate sometimes, as she states things in such a way as if they are a fact. Even if TFW tells Milo things, this is second hand information, with no back up.

I found Joan Rivers to be extremely funny at times, a little too crass for my taste at others, and surprisingly human when I watched her short-lived reality tv show with her daughter. I'm sorry to hear of her passing, and know her family members are grieving their loss.

However, she had a good long life. She was working and entertaining fans right up until the day of her procedure. I think she probably always wanted to be active up to the very end, and she got her wish.

I also remember William saying that when he was in college and making new friends that he would purposely tell someone that he was getting close to some fake insider story to see if that person would spread it around the college or go to the press with it. If Willlam heard the fake story being passed around or read it in the press then he knew exactly who was responsible for it. He was testing them to see if they would be a true friend that he could trust. I thought that was pretty clever and smart of him.

If what Joan Rivers had was indeed just an endoscopy, I've had it done and it is a very simple procedure. I had it done while under for my colonoscopy. But then, I am not 81 years old. I enjoyed her and although rough at times, she was funny. She just said what people think. Sometimes the truth hurts.

Back to the discussion regarding the 5000sq. feet house, I don't know how that originated, but I guess it came about how big Kate's house is? Anyway, for nine people, it's appropriate but there is absolutely no way ONE person can keep that house clean, so Kate might as well fess up.

Her school expenses? I totally believe she spent that much if you factor in clothing and all the other assorted school expenses that private school demand. I remember that public school was expensive because of extracurricular activity costs, required calculators, etc. BUT Kate is a liar. If TLC filmed back to school shopping, which I believe they did, she is not out a penny except for tuition. All she wanted to do with that Tweet was to prove she's a struggling single mom making ends meet.. LIE!

It's ironic how she has ended up. I don't think she ever envisioned not raising these "brood" of kids without Jon there to help. Look at where she is now and she deserves every frustrating minute of it. She wanted multiples and she's going to have a house full of teens and preteens. For those of us who have been through THAT, I got to think that even her demanding ways are not going to stamp out all the raging hormones in that house, LOL.

Second, when my daughter then aged 4, had oral surgery I made sure the facility had resuscitation equipment. Gosh, she's cunning. She ignores question after question, but
this one was a nice softball pitch right down the center: "Your

TFWs camp is simply trying to cut Jon off at the pass. Now if he does say that (and the kids may have already have voiced this to TFW, prompting this strategy), they will say "see we told you; this is only because he wants money and Kate would not give in to his blackmail"

Bitchy Pants said...

If the "endoscopy" that Joan Rivers had is the type I'm thinking of (I've had a couple), there is no "anesthesia" as most of you are thinking of. They spray the back of your throat with a numbing agent. The types of endoscopy that require a general anesthesia or "twilight sleep" are where they are planning to do something else, too, like a biopsy. I've had a couple for my throat and one where they went down into my lung and didn't have anything other than the numbing agent. It was a bit uncomfortable but no biggie. When you are getting into GI territory, or when they plan to remove a nodule or something like that, is when it gets more serious. However, that doesn't mean you can't have an allergic reaction to the topical anesthesia, or have some other serious side effect. It depends on the person, the doctor and the condition. If I were a doctor and doing a procedure on an 81 year old, no matter what good a shape they were in, I think I'd want to be in a fully staffed, fully prepared facility, just in case. I wasn't a Joan Rivers fan. I don't care for that type of humor. However, she was a person -- a mother, a grandmother, a friend -- and she deserves dignity and respect. My sympathies go out to her family and friends. I'm a big fan of John Donne -- "No man is an island entire of himself. . . . Each man's death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind. . ."

Lol, oh sheeple. For five years now Jon has said the kids don't want to film. He's been very clear about this. As recently as January he said they don't want to film:

"I don't think being on TV is good for kids. A lot of them do not want to film and they come to me and tell me that."

How much clearer can he be?

Realitytvkids.com ~ Administrator said...

I agree there is always a risk even with twilight sleep, but the vast majority of the time, the risk of leaving your problem untreated is far greater.

In my case, without that endoscopy procedure I would not have known I had an h pylori infection. I had tested negative for it in blood tests. The only way they found it was by taking a stomach sample. If I had let fear that I might die during it stop me, I probably would have died from stomach cancer within maybe 10-15 years.

I would not want Joan Rivers' death to discourage anyone from getting twilight procedures. It really is a very rare thing, and as I understand it, she has had issues with her heart before anyway.

&&&

That's about how big my house is. We do have a fairly decent yard for CA, so not counting that. It's plenty of room. I have this nice office I arranged all beautiful and we never or rarely use it, we're always hanging out in the living room or kitchen. I've thrown big Christmas dinners here with 20 people, it's not crowded as it has an open layout. So even in a small house we're not even really using it all.

I used to have a housekeeper, but when she moved I didn't replace her to save a little extra money. From top to bottom on a Saturday, cleaning this place takes a good eight hours for one person. If you divide it up less but we aren't always able to divide it up due to schedules. Of course I mean really cleaning it, getting every last smudge, all the dust, windex windows inside and out, sweeping and mopping the floors, polishing everything. Maybe even cleaning out the fridge. If you did more of a "swipe through" it's a little less, but not by much. As it is, I think that is a huge chunk of my time that I think could be better spent elsewhere.

If I had a bigger house, I just don't think I would have the time or inclination to clean it up to snuff. I'm not going to spend two days just cleaning. That's my weekend gone. So I can have a sub-par cleaned house, or I'd have to fork over a fair chunk of money for a housekeeper. Lose lose. I really do not know how people clean something bigger and not spend days doing it. Other than using that old trick of pushing the dust under the bed, lol! It does not surprise me at all that Kate has the kids doing a ton of chores. I don't think that's really fair, but it's too much for one person. Even if you were home full time like she is, you'd never get it done or at least if you did, it's all you would do. Poor kids.

Meanwhile, the clinic is receiving death threats. Who does that?

&&&

That is AWFUL.

We have no idea whether there was negligence or not. That is what the investigation is for. Let the authorities do their job.

These clinics are generally designed to make our health care better. So we don't have to endure the stress, time suck, and atmosphere of a big hospital for something minor. For obstetrics, many women love them. For most people, there is nothing unsafe about using them. And some of them may have absolutely everything they need to crash cart an emergency. If her heart stopped beating there's really only a few ways to bring her back, and as long as the clinic had the equipment and know how to do so while they transferred her to the hospital, there's likely nothing negligent about this at all. We shall see.

I don't know exactly what caused her death, but Joan Rivers was no stranger to anesthesia and probably had it in her advance directive to pull the plug in the event that something should happen to cause her to go on life support. Of course it is always difficult for the family to abide by that decision as we tend to be selfish in our need to keep our loved ones alive no matter what, but the options render their drawbacks too.

Does anyone have an official tally on Robert's book sales? What about Kate's sales to date? The sheeple were bleating that Robert is done, the book bombed, and I'd like to know how his sales compare with Robert's sales.
===================

As of yesterday, according to NovelRank, Kate's cookbook's total sales on Amazon(both hardcover and Kindle) was 2174. Robert's total Amazon sales(both hardcover and Kindle) was 4289. He's averaging about 40 sales per day.

Not bad, considering his book has only been out for 10 weeks, whereas Kate's has been out 49 weeks.

I listened to Entertainment Weekly radio on Sirius xm driving to work, they were talking about Joan. show producer said more details coming out, when they moved Joan to private room, her daughter Melissa had decorator friend of Joans come in and decorate hospital room, she was surrounded with plants and flowers and pretty things she loved. It was lovely and just what Joan would have wanted.
Adding my speculation to little that we the public know. Joan had LOTS of surgical procedures over the years and KNEW her doctors. She was a smart lady. I am speculating, this was an unfortunate and unforeseeable accident or event. Maybe coincidentally massive stroke or heart attack. Maybe a vessel got nicked and there was sudden massive blood loss. Maybe drug reaction. We don't know and may never know.
I feel safe in speculating that when she was moved to private room from icu, decision had already been made for no further intervention and it was done so would be easier for family and friends to visit and say goodbye. I wood bet there were no IV s and no feeding tubes and no machines at all.
One of our friends, age 61, very healthy and active, dropped dead last week. Healthy, active, no symptoms, apparently had massive heart attack. No defibrillator or drugs or CPR or hospital could bring him back. It happens and its sad and its no ones fault.
I have been thru death of my Dad that was sudden and unexpected from cardiac failure. He was active and healthy up until it happened. This year my mother died after a decade of declining health and mobility and mental function. I would pick drop dead suddenly over slow inevitable decline any day! Joan was blessed, seriously. And her family was blessed they had time to know what was happening and to say goodbye.

Say what you want about Joan Rivers- she had Kate Gosselin pegged ;-)
AC and Kathy Griffin are doing a really touching and funny tribute to Rivers on CNN tonight
-----------------------

I watched that tribute and it really was very touching.

When AC was speaking with Andy Cohen about Joan, AC admitted that he originally didn't like Joan because she used to make fun of his Mom(Gloria Vanderbilt), but he came around.

This is what he said:

"Cooper said, “As a kid, I didn’t like her, because she actually made fun of my mom… and as a little kid, I found it upsetting to see her making fun of my mom.”

"But as an adult I really came to like her and appreciate her more."

You can watch that clip here:

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/anderson-cooper-admits-he-didnt-like-joan-rivers-when-he-was-a-kid/

I admit that I'm not a uber fan of Joan's, but there were times when she cracked me up, and times when she made my jaw drop. I didn't always agree with her, but that didn't matter to her. She spoke her mind and said what she thought, not caring what anyone else thought.

She was a comedy icon, and my condolences to go her family and friends. May she RIP.

Very interesting discussion on that board handinhand and that's exactly why I opted for going to the hospital for my colonoscopy rather than having it done in the doctor's office. I wanted to ensure that a real anesthesiologist was present when I went under.

I have a smallish home, about 1200 sq foot. Yet it is plenty roomy enough for me and my son. A 5000 sq foot home would actually make me unhappy. I spend enough time cleaning my current home - to have to increase that by five?

&&&

"That's about how big my house is. So even in a small house we're not even really using it all."

***********************************

Our house is just over 1400 sqft and we raised two children her quite comfortably. We often had roommates at various times and never felt like we were tripping over each other.

We also had family gatherings and parties several times a year with plenty of room for folks to mingle. I can't fathom a 5000 sqft home and to me that most certainly constitutes a mansion. Sure wouldn't want to clean a house that big. Who am I kidding, I don't want to clean the house I have now. ;)

I guess it's all about perspective.

As for Joan Rivers, can't say I'm a fan but I won't say I disliked her either. I never watched anything she was on. I may have stumbled on a part of a bit she was doing while flipping channels but she never caught my attention.

What's sad is that she went in for a simple procedure and it wasn't at all expected. I feel for her daughter, they appeared to be so close.

And Kate complaining about how exhausted she is already, please...what else is new? She really does have no idea just how obnoxious and entitled she sounds to all the hardworking parents out there who do what she does AND work full time jobs on top of it.

Birthing two sets of multiples does not a supermom make. A real single mother with only one child and a full time job works harder than Kate, IMO.

Admin I just have to say that you're making me feel like a slob here! My house is about 2000 sq ft and must be a sub-par cleaned house because I do not spend 8 hours every weekend cleaning. I may spend that much time once a month (looks down and whispers "I'm stretching the truth") on deep cleaning but the rest of the time I just touch up what needs to be done (swipe-through?). My house is clean but it's not a showroom. We live in it as does our bully with all the drool, tracking in of crap and shedding that goes along with him. I've been in houses that are that clean and I'm afraid to touch anything for fear of leaving a smudge. I'll take my lived in and loved in house over showroom clean any day.

Last night I watched Joan on Shrink Rap with clinical psychologist Dr. Pamela Stephenson on Youtube (about an hour long "Joan Rivers Gets Her Head Shrunk!"). I liked the doctor's approach and Joan seemed very disposed to up open to her. There's also a session with Robin Williams which I'm about to watch. That ought to be interesting.

Reports I heard about Joan Rivers was that they moved her from ICU to a private room while still on life-support. That told me that it was just a matter of time and that life-support would be ended.

I'm not sure of the laws in New York State, but my experience has been that three negative neurological assessments are needed to declare brain death. And while it's good to have advanced directives in place, family can still override the wishes of the patient (usually to keep someone alive, not the other way around). My sister made me Power of Attorney for her financial affairs, but not her medical affairs. She thinks I'd just "pull the plug" We joke about it, but obviously, she doesn't trust me. (shrugs) It's a sticky subject. That's why you choose people you trust with this responsibility. Doctors don't just disconnect life support. There are guidelines in place and they may vary from state to state or country to country.

PSA: Get your affairs in order; you never know. It's a horrible thing for family members to have to deal with in a time of crisis.

We have just moved into a 2000 square foot condo. We were very fortunate to have had the service of a weekly housekeeper in our old home for close to 30 years. In the child raising and working years she was a real gift and I appreciate the resources to have that help. That said, I have no real desire to deep clean our new new. I keep things tidy by nature and fairly clean too. But the floors, the bathrooms, the blinds, nope, would rather spend time with my grandkids. After we return from our fall trip, I will look I to finding someone maybe once, maybe twice a month. Still cheaper than psychotherapy.

I am quite sure Kate Gosselin is not cleaning that big 'ol house by herself.

Oh, and I think the real message of TFW's tweet -- in case you're not able to read between the lines -- is that she desperately needs to work, and that's why she's doing the show again.

====

I can always hear Louis Armstrong singing Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen in the background when she starts in on her poor-me theme.

Millicent said...

If TFW spent around $250 per kid, then she would expend $2,000 getting them ready for back to school. I think it would be fairly easy to hit that number, if you have to purchase 2 new school uniforms per kid, at least one new pair of shoes, new backpacks for each one, plus binders, paper, pens and pencils, and assorted other classroom supplies.

However, a frugal person could cut that figure. For example, did all the children outgrow last year's uniforms? If not, re-use them as long as you can. My son has a Jansport backpack and is on his 2nd year with it - it's still in great shape and could probably last him through his senior year in high school. (I had a Jansport backpack that I used for my entire college years - they are built to last.) Paper, pens, binders - back to school sales, get great deals.

She wanted multiples, so she shouldn't complain at the cost of fitting them out each year for school. For sure!

I found a Joan Rivers discussion on a student/doctor board where they talk about anesthesia and in its use in these surgicenters. It was eye opening for me.

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/joan-rivers-cardiac-arrest-outpatient-endo.1095633/

Thanks for the link. It was actually what I expected. I have a family member with suspected Malignant Hyperthermia, so am more familiar than most with anesthesiology issues. Because of the MH issue, my family always has operations done in hospitals that can provide non-MH triggering anaethesia. This requirement rules out some smaller hospitals (fortunately not the local one where we now live) and all non-hospital clinics.

One of the doctors on the forum talks about clinics giving anaethesia without a MH cart. In my opinion, that is not just irresponsible and negligent but it should be criminal and those responsible should receive jail time, whether or not anyone dies as a result.

Just for the record, it doesn't look like MH was a factor in Joan Rivers death. But remember, when you have surgery, the surgeon attempts to cure your problem but it's the anaesthetist who keeps you alive.

In my opinion, these clinics are designed to make lots of money for the operators while providing sub-standard but luxurious health care.

LIE!

-----------------------------
I wonder, though, if TLC really paid for all of the expenses. Somehow it seems like quite a bit...new clothing for eight kids for an entire year, textbooks (the purchase of which wouldn't have been filmed because they are bought at the school). Would TLC really fork over money for all expenses? Pencils, calculators, sneakers...possibly, but I'm just not sure that they would have paid for every single thing that they need in the school year.

Kate said that it (the expenses) "hurt.:" If TLC didn't pay for the whole kit and caboodle, the funds are in the kids' account and are allowed to be withdrawn for education. Did she do that? Who knows? If so, it was the kids who were hurt, not Kate. Then again, Kate didn't say who was hurt. She dodged that one.

PJ's momma said...

PJ, you make very good points. I am coming off almost 6 months as executor of my stepdad's estate. He did nothing to prepare for his death, even though he was dying for years. My advice to everyone the past 6 months is to be sure you have "pay on death" or beneficiaries (or co-owners) of your bank accounts. My mom was not on her accounts. If you have assets such as car or house, be SURE your partner's name is on the registration/title/deed. He didn't do that either. I am closing in on $5000 in attorney fees to get a simple estate resolved and closed, which would have ALL been unnecessary if just those two things were done. People don't think about bank accounts and asset division, but if someone dies, the family cannot pay bills if their names on not on the bank accounts. Nor can they sell assets like cars to be rid of the expense of them. It can be a mess. A big one!
And of course, the medical directives are extremely important too. He did have those. If he was here, I'd give him CPR and kill him again! Nobody should have to go through this to get family (spouse, partner) what is rightfully theirs.
